Delicious spicy chicken and fried pickles

By Allison G |

You must get the fried pickle spears, absolutely amazing. Goes perfect with the spicy fried chicken. Service was great. Makes for an awesome meal and an even better late night snack. Highly recommend.

The Best Fried Chicken

By Mark H |

Atl is known as a mecca of delicious southern cuisine, fashion, music and style. From having one of the most posh airports (ATL Hartsfield-Jackson) to the best fried chicken at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, you'll never be disappointed. No matter what brings you to Atl, you owe it to yourself to try Gus's Fried Chicken at least once. It's well seasoned, spicy and freshly delicious made to order. The owner, Rodney is also extremely helpful and customer friendly. He also makes the best homemade lemonade.

ALWAYS A "PERFECT 10"

By larryeryder |

I was first introduced to this restaurant about 10 years ago in Memphis. I fell in love there. When I heard that they were opening one here in ATL, I was skeptical because oftentimes franchises tend to slack a bit. Welp...I was wrong here because IT IS STILL VERY GOOD! If you like hot and spicy chicken, you'd be doing yourself a HUGE DISSERVICE by NOT visiting this place. I have NEVER had bad service there and the food has NEVER been less than a 9.8 (nobody's perfect all the time)! P.S.---I am NOT an employee or affiliated with this chain in ANY WAY. I just salute good food!

YUM!!!

By Carol Hayes |

This is my favorite fried chicken place when I am out of Illinois and in the South. Whole pieces of white or dark, plus fried okra and sweet tea.......just heaven!

MOST tender and juicy fried chicken

By Ana G |

Me and my family planned to have fried chicken when we recently traveled to Atl. After all they are know for good southern food and fried chicken. We settled on Gus's partly due to convenience. Didn't have time for full sit down lunch and also were hoping for pocket friendlier option as well. Chicken was the most fresh render and juicy fried chicken I have ever had. Taste was good but not the best. I've had better. Sides(mac&cheese and fries) were nothing to brag about. Not sure if I would revisit again.

Must try!

By Jaye Tyler |

Recommended by someone traveling with us who had been before. Good, homemade cooking reminded me of family reunions when I was a kid. Wasn't crowded and the waiter was super nice. Make sure to order the fried pickles!

Welcome to Atlanta, loan me $40

By JGinLA_loweralabama |

Co-driver was starving after our six-hour drive. We happened up on Gus's. Service was friendly. Chicken was good, my wife's is better. Collard greens were strong-tasting. Don't get in a hurry. Our local grocery can serve the same meal for half the price.

Always hot and delicious

By Jayk |

Best fried chicken around when in Atlanta. Always served hot and fresh with great service. Highly recommend getting the Mac and cheese and cole slaw. Don’t miss Gus’s when you are in the ATL!

It’s the best

By Jpjphine |

There is no better chicken period. Have been to four of days these restaurants and they are all the same. AMAZING! I call it “crack” chicken. Just can’t stop.

Delicious

By Kathleen W |

Stopped in for take out. Got a 2 piece meal which comes with two sides. The chicken was the best fried chicken I've ever had, moist, spicy, perfect! Highly recommend!

Yum!

By IRun2Eat |

Perfect first meal in Atlanta for our family. We were super hungry and wanted to find a restaurant with fried chicken. This place met our expectations and the fried chicken was so delicious. We each got the special, which was 2 chicken breasts. When the food came out the waitress let us know that they still needed to fry 2 more breasts, but gave us 2 thighs in their place while waiting for the breasts. We thought that level of service was so refreshing and honest. The fried okra was also good and we talked about the Mac and cheese for days after our meal.

Average food great service

By Pinkukfan |

Average chicken and southern sides. Our family of 4 was seated right away at 6pm on a Thursday night. Great service but disappointing food.

Best Fried Chicken

By sangeetadas |

This place serves best crispy, spicy and scrumptious fried chicken. Although service is a bit relaxed so keep some time in hand.

Southern fried yum

By Marge S |

Delicious southern fried chicken with a kick plus sides. Very friendly service but not fast food. Do t be in a hurry. Just enjoy.

Great Southern Staple

By TravelDude88 |

The chicken was quite spicy and good on a cold day. We had a box of chicken with okra, and fried green tomatoes. The food and atmosphere was pleasant and a perfect way to eat a meal. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There was plenty of seating and the restaurant was clean. The total for four adults was about $48 with sweet teas which wasn't too bad on the wallet for an afternoon lunch. I wouldn't call it cheap eats but it was affordable. Everything I had was so good that I can't wait for my next visit so I can try the other items. I would go visit again.

Excellent food and friendly staff

By DawnR |

Had a bite to eat here before our flight home to the UK. We had spent the past week travelling over Florida and this was by far one of the tastiest meals we had eaten and my husband is a really foodie. The staff were friendly and helpful and would welcome all guests with a loud ' Welcome to Gus's' which was a nice touch.

Good but world famous?

By rodriguezs807 |

chicken was good, but world famous? I don’t think so. First off, be ready because everything here has a kick to it. Chicken is spicy, French fries have a seasoning on them, beans have a slight kick, even Mac and cheese has paprika or something on top. So if your not a spice fan, it’s not the place for you. Service is slow, and chicken is small.

Fantastic Chicken

By MomtoDJG |

We were looking for a soul food/fried chicken establishment during our visit to Atlanta and we found exactly what we were looking for when we walked into Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. It was so good! I am not a spicy eater so I was happy it wasn't overly spiced. It had just the right kick. The beans and cole slaw were both so delicious also. Our waitress was really helpful and friendly. We had a really good and nice lunch. I highly recommend.

Samsonite luggage repair/replacement

By J H |

Our Samsonite rolling/spinner luggage wheels were damaged by Delta on an incoming flight. I used the local recommended repair facility (Gus’s Luggage and Shoe Repair, Jacksonville, Florida). Junior took the bag in, informed me that Samsonite usually just replaces the entire bag since replacing the wheels, in their mind, is usually more costly. Sure enough, Samsonite has offered me a full line of replacement bags, and we selected a similar bag. Samsonite has sent us this replacement bag. We are very pleased at how Samsonite expeditiously, and with such a rapid response, satisfied this customer. Thanks to Junior at Gus’s for handling this encounter.

A must visit and unique flavor that really works

By Mr. Polo |

Gus Famous Fried Chicken is truly a must. Right of the bat please know that the chicken has a light spicyness which caught me off guard but it made the unique flavor worth it. Taking 1 star off not for the food but because the wait time to be seated which was roughly about 20-25 mins, which when you are craving freshly made chicken is not ideal. However, service is quite fast and very good, server had to manage 2 large groups and still delievery everything perfectly. Back to the food, the chicken is in fact freshly made, seasoned to perfection, the kick from the spicyness makes everything work, is flavorful, bit of smokeness, very juicy dark meat. Sides were mac and cheese which can be defined as a very well made homecooked cheesy, moist but not saucy. The fries are freshly fried as well with a special seasoning that accompanies the flavor of the chicken but does not over power it. Then there's the pecan pie, hands down ask for it and enjoy it, it is perfectly dense, well balanced and it has a very rich body that defines what a pecan pie should be. On in all it is a must visit. Well worth it.

Great if You Like Spicy Chicken

By AH M |

First the coleslaw was delicious. It was creamy, slightly sweet and not drowned in mayo. The chicken was a little too hot and spicy for me and my date, but we ate it with no problem. The service was wonderful. The waitstaff was very attentive and kept our tea glasses full.

Six Flags trip

By Drew C |

This is my favorite new place in Atlanta. This chicken is the bomb. I dont normally eat spicy food. But I would recommend this to all fried chicken lovers. This will make you slap your grandma/ MADEA.

After Game Dinner

By Audrey H |

A must visit. The food was grest. We tried fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried okra, baked beans, Cole slaw . Friendly environment .

Very Tasty

By fratwin |

We were very pleased with our experience. The staff was friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. The fried green tomatoes were a big hit and the chicken was very good. I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese as one of your sides. We went during lunch and it was not to busy.

Wonderful

By jecemc |

Really well done fried chicken, beans, and coleslaw...delicious. Awesome experience. A hidden gem in Atlanta. I will definitely visit again when in area.

Great fried chicken

By jangibes |

The chicken was crispy, not too bland nor too spicy. The coleslaw was crisp and sweet, a great blend of flavor. Beans were tasty too. I'd go again.

Outstanding

By Libor John I |

Well we got blowed a way by the waitress to be seated like 15 minutes then got seated. Menus handed out await like 10 minutes before she looked our way to take drinks. Another 5-8 to get the beer and her to take order. 20 more awaiting food said it was because I ordered white meat that takes longer to cook. But when It came OMG BEST DAMN CHICKEN! Hire more staff and it would be more people coming!

Best fried chicken

By NCSUGirl03 |

The BEST fried chicken and chicken tenders I’ve ever had. The Mac and cheese was also phenomenal. Such good food and great customer service! Very friendly atmosphere.

Great fried chicken!

By Kerry J |

The chicken was hot, crispy and seasoned well. I usually put hot sauce on my chicken but there was no need. The baked beans and macaroni and cheese were also very good. My Mac & cheese wasn't hot but I told the server and she got me a new side with new problem. Great service also. My boyfriend was less than thrilled to eat and drink from Styrofoam plates and cups but I didn't mind.

Service (bad), food (great)

By Maurice B |

If it wasn’t for the poor service I would have easily given them 4 stars maybe higher. How are you a chicken place and you run out of chicken, but you don’t mention anything until the customer ask why is taken so long for food to come out. My family and I were there over an hour before getting our meal. We got one cup of water and a side of okra as appetizer and then 45 mins later food. Not once did the waitress ask if he needed more water or offer to comp anything for the long wait.

Hands down great fried chicken.

By patgranada |

A local recommended this place. It's a great place and the food is amazing. The locals love it and the if u love southern fried chicken u will too.

Decent Lunch Good Service

By Mrluthor |

Decent spicey Fried Chicken but the sides were a little bland. The service was friendly & the wait for the entree was for the chicken being freshly fried. We tried to order fried pickle spears for an appetizer, but they were out. I went with the basic 2 piece dark platter that came with baked beans and cole slaw. The beans were good but the cole slaw was a bit bland. My daughter ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders with seasoned fries & potato salad. She was pleased with her selection. Overall a decent lunch. Would go again if in the area, mbut wouldn’t go out of my way to go.

Still manages not to be touristy though filled w tourists. Just enough local flavor. Food was solid. Waitress solid. Got in and out fully satisfied.

ATE BUT NOT ALL THAT

By blessedandforgiven |

This was our first time here. My husband had eaten at the one in Memphis Tn while on the road, and he said it was very good. I'd never had it. We went on 6-7-22 midday, and there were some mishaps for sure. I ordered 2 piece white plate, breast & wing, coleslaw, baked beans & white bread. My husband ordered half chicken, baked beans, fries and white bread. Of course it's fried, that's there specialty. Our food came out in about 3 to 4 minutes. They gave us chicken that was hard, dry and cold, of course it had been cooked and sitting a while ago. I took it back and they cooked some fresh pieces. I couldn't believe they brought that to us to start with. My husband said Memphis location is way better nothing like this one at all. Although fresh chicken was cooked and it tasted fine, I'm pretty sure we will not be going back to this location.

Good food and vibe

By Xamb |

The chicken was moist, crisp, tasty and prompt. Liked the vibe - both locals and folk from convention hotels nearby. Simple and easy.

Good, almost what I'd hoped.

By Antiquetuck |

I was on a trip from ATL to SEA and had around 45 minutes to boarding. I asked before I was seated if I could get my food in 15-20 mins so I could eat before I had to be at the gate - they said "no problem." But it was a problem. Their timing was off - by quite a bit; mine might have been off by a few minutes. As it was, my meal finally got to the table - along with a lemonade I couldn't carry with me - just about the time I had to tell them I had to go to the gate. I guzzled the lemonade, they packed the meal 'to-go', and I hustled. This meant that I didn't get to eat hot chicken and try their food the way it was meant to be eaten. That was a shame. The meal was, under the circumstances, okay - but not GREAT! Maybe I'll get to try it again - if I ever go back to ATL.

Not fancy, still Wonderful

By Pamela S |

Great spicy fried chicken. Delicious sides. Tables are covered in picnic pattern. Dishes are disposable and plastic flatware. No crowd when we went Friday 5 pm. Got more crowded after 530 pm. Parking is only issue. There is a pay lot across the street if no street parking available. Do pay the park fee even after 6 pm because when we got back to our car, I saw a guy bring our tire boots ready to lock tires if no parking fee paid. Pay attention to those parking lot signs. They are serious about violators. Other than that, the food at the restaurant was great.

Horrible service from rude server.

By Puzzled Traveler |

After a meeting downtown a group of 5 of us walked to Benihana for dinner not aware that they had gone out of business. Since this was next door we decided to give it a try even though there was a significant wait due to many people that were there for a conference in the nearby hotel that were also waiting to eat. We waited 35 minutes for a table but we were seated without menus. We sat discussing the meeting and other things for a significant amount of time before we realized a server had not been to our table yet. Since we didn’t have anywhere else to be we decided as group to see how long we could sit there before someone that worked there noticed that we had not been served anything. The answer was 43 minutes! An unapologetic server finally realized we were in her section, brought us menus and took our drink order. After getting menus we realized all the chicken options on the menu were listed as spicy as well as many of the sides. When our server returned with drinks we inquired if any of the chicken entrées could be made plain, not spicy. Our sever then got very snotty with us and replied “no, all the chicken is served spicy, that’s why the sign says Gus’s Famous Spicy Chicken!” We informed her the word spicy was not in the name at all and we had no way of knowing from the sign outside that all the chicken was only served spicy. Again, no apology for her outburst or misinformation. How do you work somewhere and not know the actual name of the place on the side of the building? Now we were in a predicament as 3 members of our group could not eat spicy food. After being there for over and hour and half 3 of us ordered grilled cheese sandwiches and mashed potatoes from the kids menu for dinner while the other 2 got to enjoy this allegedly famous chicken. At least we know not to come back.

Gus's 'Got It Goin' On!!!

By David T |

If you're a fan perfectly fried, hot and spicy chicken and delicious, authentic Southern sides then put Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken on your culinary bucket list for the next time your in the ATL!! We stopped in around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place was packed with people of every stripe and persuasion getting their grub on! We had a twenty minute wait to be seated (they're open until 11 on Fridays and Saturdays) but the food was sooooo good that it's worth the wait! The chicken is fried to order and done to perfection and arrives hot...but not greasy (everything is fried in peanut oil) and the sides were healthy portions of Southern classics (potatoes, coleslaw, beans, greens) that tasted like Madear "put her foot in them!" Seriously good eats! If you like Popeye's, you'll love Gus's. Even though the spiciness is completely different, the taste is amazing and like no other! Not the cheapest chicken in town but, without question, the best! People don't come here for the décor (plastic utensils, tablecloths, paper plates) it's all about the grub! Shout out to our waitress "Jennifer" for adeptly juggling the requests of umpteen customers and never missing a beat!

Awful service

By Jasper A |

I came here with a big crowd and food was wonderful. I came back by myself and was ignored for 15 minutes then got up and left and no one noticed. Do not go here.

Dinner

By amandacO7448LL |

First time visit: I went to Gus’s for dinner and was impressed. The chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The seasoning on it is amazing. The coleslaw is good and so is the macaroni and cheese. I wasn’t thrilled with the beans. The staff was friendly and very attentive. I highly recommend going.

Absolutely the best!

By Jenna-travelingRN |

This is the best fried chicken 🐔 ever! It is tossed in a heavenly, spicy mix and obviously deep fried to golden deliciousness with a crunch. It doesn’t get much better. They have several side options, but the Mac n cheese is to die for. It super creamy & cheesy. I always leave wanting to take about 6 take out servings back to FL with me. Gus! Please open in Florida!

Quite good, but pricey

By machdawg |

I ordered the three piece tenders as they are not supposed to be as spicy as the other wings, etc. It was definitely not too spicy but also had some kick to it. I did not know this was a chain but would have tried it regardless. Clean restaurant & helpful friendly staff. World famous I don't know if I can agree with that statement. I am from the South and there is chicken around the area that is just as good if not better than what I was served. Would I go back? Yes probably so if I was close since I now know what to expect. That being said if you don't like spicy then I would probably not give it a try.

Great chicken & catfish & pie

By 60+ Traveler |

We had the catfish special & two servings of the chicken so everyone could get a taste of the different sides and glad we did. The catfish was my favorite followed closely by the okra; recommend ordering soda to cut the burn of the chicken before your lips go numb.

Great stop for great chicken and good sides

By Kathleen S |

Super great casual menu... Food was great! Staff very friendly! Very inexpensive! Ate there 2 days in a row it was so good!

Delicious fried chicken; lives up to its name

By genealogist42 |

We had lunch here one day during our stay in Atlanta. I was a bit worried about the "hot and spicy" description of the chicken, because my husband likes food with absolutely no spice, but he ate everything, and declared it delicious. I loved that the chicken was so crispy outside and so tender and juicy on the inside. Definitely worth a visit here for a moderately priced, delicious, and filling meal.

So Delicious

By Jen S |

My Lyft driver from the airport mentioned this place to me as we were discussing the southern food as I had never visited Atlanta (or the south much other than Florida). I decided I needed to give some southern fried chicken a chance and scooted over to this place. It is delicious! It’s a bit on the spicier side and I’m somewhat afraid of spicy things but I could handle it no problem. The sides are just an added bonus. I look forward to trying their other locations when I’m in one of those cities. The staff was great and even the owner would wander around checking in to see if guests were enjoying their meals. I highly recommend a stop here.

Spicy but tasty fried chicken

By Rick K |

When we stopped in here, we didn't realize that you could get only one kind of chicken - spicy. But it turns out, that's okay. The skin is cooked to a dark, dark golden brown but the meat is tender and juicy. The spice is quite noticeable, but not too overpowering. If you don't like anything spicy, you may want to pass on the chicken though. You can get all the usual sides you would expect with fried chicken and all the ones we had were delicious. That includes the coleslaw, mac and cheese and beans. It is a very popular place and fairly busy. It is a favorite of the locals and tourists alike. The price is moderate but reasonable. So, if you like your chicken a little on the spicy side, give Gus a try.

So good

By Kiefanie N |

Gus’s World Famous fried chicken caught me by surprise because it had a little kick to it. Then I realized that they fry their chicken with hot sauce. Very smart idea and it tastes amazing.

Ok

By Daniel A |

They offer free parking is a scam. The because when you try to exit the parking lot next to restaurant you have to pay 20.00. The food is decent service ok

Juicy, not crispy...

By Shaun B |

First stop when we arrived in Atlanta. Service was par, but the food was outstanding. Chicken was crazy juicy. Skin wasn't that crispy, but who cares? When the chicken is this good, I don't need crispy skin. Mac and cheese was great. Get here.

Great fried chicken with a kick!

By Toothsc |

My wife and I were staying at the Hilton nearby and walked here without having to get out in the heat. Hard to find at first because it is on the lower (street) level of the Hub at The Mall. I had been to one of their locations in Memphis and couldn't wait to try it again. My wife loved it with the standard slaw and beans. I paid the 50 cents upcharge and had fried okra. The chicken is freshly fried so it comes out hot with heat and spicy as well. It is spicier than BoJangles or Popeyes and much tastier. We liked it so much we went back again. She changed the slaw for greens and loved them. Highly recommend this place.

Not world famous to me

By leebean |

in town on vacation. Looking for some fried chicken. Saw this advertised on line the name of the place was Gus‘s world famous Fried chicken. However, when we arrived, the name of the place is Gus‘s world, famous Fried, chicken, hot and spicy. I don’t do hot or spicy. A little deceptive if you ask me. Furry con was in town so the place was slammed. Waited about 45 minutes for a table. our waiter, while very, very nice, was very slow. I don’t blame him, I blame the kitchen. He did the best he could under adverse conditions. Could not eat the chicken, was way too spicy, couldn’t eat the collards as they were too spicy. Fried okra were dried hard little knots. All in all a very disappointing meal.

great

By StephenMaddox |

Staff was super friendly and the food came out fast and was delicious! Would definitely come back if i lived in the area!!

Horrible Service!!!!!

By SCTraveler1381 |

I wish I could rate the food here but we had such a horrible experience that we were never served. Waited 20 minutes to be seated when open tables were available. Once we were seated, no one helped us. The person who I assume was supposed to be our waiter passed us several times. Then when I was obviously getting annoyed he stopped by and said they were busy and he would come back. After about 25 minutes of waiting for someone just to take our drink order when we had two starving kids, I asked the waiter if he would take our order. He was extremely rude and refused to take our order. Then another 15 minutes went by with no one taking our order so we had to leave with two crying and hungry kids. Do not go here! Horrible service!!

Best fried chicken in the world?

By Bob F |

Arguably, this just might be the best fried chicken in the world! And surely, no restaurant we’ve been in recently has had better or more friendly service. And it couldn’t have come at a better time in our lives. After our Michigan football team got destroyed by Florida in yesterday’s Peach Bowl, Gus’s greatness has lifted our spirits and restored purpose to our lives. Thank you Gus (and Rodney and Raven)!

Best fried chicken 🍗 EVER!

By TravelingRN |

Every year I have the pleasure of visiting Atlanta for a cheer competition. Well we stumbled into Gus’s one night when we were starved & it was the best decision we made. Every year I cannot wait to go back to Atlanta just for Gus’s chicken 🐓. The chicken is dredged through a heavenly concoction of spices and flour that just set your tastebuds wild. The chicken can be spicy to some lightweights like my daughter, but it barely even sends alarms to me & my husband. It is worth the visit any time you are near Atlanta. You will never find better fried chicken. Let’s talk about the Mac n cheese. Oh my gosh, such delicious creamy cheesy goodness. The beans are good as well, but nothing compares to that Mac! 😋

Best fried chicken EVER!!!!

By R0795 |

Wow! Best fried chicken ever on our first family visit to Atlanta. So moist and the coating was crispy and spicy. Everything we tried was delicious … fried green tomatoes, slaw, greens … all so good. Eric looked after us and we were grateful for the chance to experience true southern hospitality. Thank you!!

Tasty fried chicken!

By PathManSlough |

We took a trip downtown to Gus's on our first evening in Atlanta. We found a queue to get in at 6:45pm on a Sunday evening, but we were quickly seated and served by our waitress (Angel). I ordered some drinks including a local IPA for me (Sweetwater, very good!) and a red wine for my wife (a Cabernet Sauvignon, served in a small plastic tumbler - why can't we have proper glasses?). The restaurant was already busy but getting busier with the minutes, and as all food is cooked to order, we were advised there would be a wait of at least 15 minutes before we received our food. I ordered a dark meat platter (3 pieces) with coleslaw and beans for me and my wife chose the more expensive 3 piece white platter (which turned out to be far too much for her, so I had to help!). We did ask for fries, which we never delivered, but we had plenty on our plates with the chicken, beans, slaw and bread. The chicken itself when it arrived was fairly spicy with a buttermilk coating (I think?), and it was obviously freshly fried and piping hot. The slaw was very cooling and the beans perfectly complemented the chicken. It was an ideal combo! As said above, my wife couldn't finish hers so I helped out, particularly with the outer coating to the chicken! Overall cost was $44 and the food and experience was great! Well worth the money and friendly service to boot!

Southern fried chicken

By vegasrugbyref |

Pretty darn good southern fried chicken I had the 3 piece platter with mac and cheese...yummy. Located on Peachtree street near Ritz, Hyatt and Marriott hotels. Good atmosphere and pleasant servers.

Oooooh my goodness

By katglat20 |

Wowowowowow this place is delicious. You are welcomed with a big loud “Hi welcome to Gus’s!” the moment you enter the restaurant. We had chicken breasts and thighs and were so so happy with our choices. The fried okra and cole slaw were particularly good!

Arrived a skeptic, left a believer

By utfiero |

Food: The chicken was incredible! Simply the best ever, and I’ve even eaten at the original KFC location in Corbin, Kentucky. Had lunch here with a business group recently (attending a conference at the nearby Hyatt). We ordered platters of fried chicken and every side dish on the menu. The batter has a very mild spice that’s incredible. The beans are excellent, mashed potatoes very good, coleslaw very good, … . And try the fried pickles! Service: Our group was sizable, and service was great. Overall cleanliness: average Bathroom cleanliness: average

Southern food

By KWJess5 |

Food was so nice that I ate there twice on my 2 day stay at Atlanta. One of my favorite dish was the fried chicken of course and the potato salad was probably one of the best ones I’ve had so far.

Simply Outstanding Fried Chicken

By Keith C |

Gus's specializes in spicy fried chicken. If you are looking for something else, this is not the place. All of it is spicy; no mild options. There are plenty of sides and pies to choose from, but Gus's is all about the chicken, and they do it really well. It was seasoned perfectly, juicy, crispy, delivered hot. not sure what else I would have asked for.

The catfish offered on weekends is a highlight

By M Quin |

Excellent menu, traditional southern cooking fare at reasonable prices. Highlights include the dark meat chicken option, the baked beans and the catfish they offer on weekends only.

Good fried chicken

By Davey |

Friendly servers and good chicken. Central location to downtown. Sports and music on. We were served very quickly.

Great Fried Okra

By rking3170 |

It was my appetizer, so a good place to start. Healthy serving and every single okra was crisp and tasty. Complimented with a nice ranch dipping sauce. I had the 3-piece dark meat chicken. I might try the wings instead next time. Didn’t think there was a lot of ‘flavor’ other than spicy. Skin very crispy. Good serving of Cole slaw and beans. Wait staff could’ve been a little more attentive but were very friendly. Roomy for seating. Has kind of a billiard room appeal. Has a small bar, and TVs around. Probably nice for watching games. Plastic fork n knife. I would return. BURP

Think before you bite!

By Chestina S |

Disgust in every bite! This was the worst excuse for southern cuisine. I am using that term loosely. The potato salad, and coleslaw were oversaturated with sugar to mask the poor taste. The chicken was old, poorly seasoned. The so called spice was weak and had an after taste!! The mac and cheese rate a 2 on a 10 point scale.

Yum. Definitely come here in ATL.

By gringatx |

We came here on a Sat. Night of Memorial Day weekend. It was full and took a long time to get the food. What I liked when we were being seated is that the host told us, it will take a little time to get your order going bc we are really full and the server had this whole section. At least they gave us a heads up and that made the difference. We got the 8 piece chicken, with Mac n cheese and greens. It was excellent. We ate all of it. It had a little kick, but not overwhelming. Super hot when it came out. We would come back here again. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the long wait and our server forgot plasticware and the jalapeños. The food itself was excellent.

Crave it nightly.

By rhanna21 |

Welcomed immediately by friendly staff. Place was hopping and that is always a good sign considering the name of the establishment. Server was quick to take our order and not rushed when asked a few questions about the menu. Food came out at a good pace and looked wonderful. The taste was fantastic! I crave this chicken nightly. The macaroni, beans, slaw and chicken are all fantastic. Server was ahead of the game when it came to drink refills. Nice job!!!

Best fried chicken

By bamanda2011 |

Chicken was perfectly marinated and fried. It’s a little spicy so goes well with beer. Staffs were nice and chicken was so tasty.

Best fried chicken!

By Wrld_Trvllr87 |

We were here our first night in Atlanta. The chicken was absolutely the best. Delicious! Sides were delicious as well. Place is busy and informal, but very good. Service was great. Our server comped us a few items since it was our first time!

Great Food Abysmal Service

By supercygolf |

It's amazing how service affects peoples overall perception of a company. A week earlier in Nashville Gus's was fantastic, however in Atlanta it was abysmal. First of all despite the restaurant being less than half full we has we waited over 5 minutes to be seated then heard the waitress who wanted in their section. That should have had alarm bells ringing. Then waited over 5 minutes for the menus. Eventually sick of waiting I went to try and find someone to take our order and found our waitress leaning over the hatch to the kitchen chatting. Eventually our order was taken and another wait for drinks which she managed to get wrong. After a wait of over 10 minutes for the food to arrive I went to find someone and found our waitress leaning over the hatch to the kitchen chatting. It then took another 3-4 minutes for it to arrive. In short the food was OK the service was nonexistent.

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had

By Saul G |

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Insanely thick, crispy skin. I liked the Mac n cheese, and fried okra. Reeaally kind server !!

Dank and Disappointing

By Nopaperwork |

If you like disinterested service, a long wait, and being hit up by local homeless folk at the bar - along with unappealing fried chicken Gus' is the place for you. Walk a few steps farther to the metro diner for a real Southern meal.

Had high hopes

By AF_BRYAN |

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience at Gus’s. Only saw our server 3 times (Order, food drop off, check), one of my pieces of chicken wasn’t cooked and had blood running through it and the other piece that wasn’t bleeding, didn’t taste anything world famous. Not recommended.

Disappointed

By TGrand2022 |

We were riding down P'tree and smelt something delicious. It was Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken so we decided to give it a try. We were very disappointed in the texture of the chicken. It was either old or fried too hard. My wings looked liked pigeon wings instead of chicken. My fries were cold and bland...I've had way better. In addition to the dissatisfaction of the food, we were charged extra for choosing a different side instead of what comes with the plate ordinarily; what an insult. NEVER AGAIN! The slaw was the best tasting item...that's the only reason why I didn't give a zero.

Just good, not great

By Jessica G |

Read a review and decided to give this place a try. Friendly and fast takeout service. Chicken was good but the breast meat was a little dry. Mac n cheese was overcooked so it wasn’t creamy which was disappointing. The greens and the fried pickles were both good.

Good friend chicken, not particularly hot

By D. Aaronson |

I wasn't familiar with Gus's before coming across this although I've definitely had my share of Nashville-style fried chicken. I thought the chicken was good and I would get it again but I don't see at as one of the best in Atlanta. As far as being 'hot', it barely registers as spicy. I noticed a lot of people around me adding hot sauce so I think that's probably a shared opinion. The sides vary, we thought the fried okra was the best of them though.

hmmmmmm

By John-Sandra L |

Nice to see a all girls crew at Gus's but the 2 cooks were not wearing a mask at all and the server and cashier had their mask around their chin. Not a pretty sight to see.

Dorky name that actually IS that...

By motz34 |

I laughed when I saw it on the street and decided to try it. So glad we did. It is REALLY GOOD FRIED CHICKEN!!! And the servers were awesome! The food was a bit slow and not really anybody there, but the service was exceptional, the food great and I would definitely go back. The pecan pie was great!!!!

Delicious!

By ScoutSox |

I ordered a chicken strip meal with fries/slaw. Their chicken is hot & spicy, but they told me that their strips were a little milder. They tasted great to me...not overcooked, tender, and there was a little zip but it was very good. The slaw was sweet and delicious. Fries not too salty, just right. The waitress was very friendly and service was very fast. If I'm ever back in the area, this is definitely one I will return to.

Love Gus

By LifesShort99 |

I loved Gus's in Memphis so I thought I would try Atlanta. Chicken was just as good but they gave you white bread while Memphis gave you Texas Toast. I did take out which was bad. I waited 40 minutes for a two piece plus an eight piece. While I was standing there waiting I noticed take out orders were incorrect. Both my friends were missing items, one was his drink and the other one was missing a side. They weren't the only ones. You may be better off dinning in. They didn't get the full five stars because of the service on takeouts.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

By Wander798152 |

The chicken was good but not great. The place was kind of shabby. The service was good and we didn't have to wait too long for our food.

Excellent Food

By cubertnine |

Gus's has some of the best chicken I've had anywhere. Served hot and fresh by friendly staff, Gus's is hard to beat. I frequently visit on business trips and stay in nearby hotels. Take a friend and enjoy the great food.

Must, must, must try!

By Darryl D |

Hands down best fried chicken I have ever had! Perfectly seasoned and battered, spiced perfectly. Recommended by a friend who said a “a 3 piece white dinner and a 40” would make me happy. He was wrong, a 3 piece dinner, 2 forties and dessert was heavenly! The baked beans were were worth the trip alone!

Excellent Fried Chicken

By Jamie S |

Went in for dinner and was seated quickly. Drink came out quick and so did the food. Chicken was tender and juicy and hot. Ordered fry’s potato salad and all was delicious.

Great food

By Natalie T |

The establishment itself gave you a “bar like” feel but the food was to die for !! We had potatoe salad Mac n cheese and okra as our sides and baby - someone put there foot in it , it was too good and there was no way we could eat it all at once ! If I had to say anything could be better it’ll be the size of the drinks - I believe it was $2.75 for a small plastic cup and they charge for refills (knowing you’ll need it due to the chicken being spicy) first time eating and I’ll definitely eat there again

Best option in the area

By TravellingFields4evr |

Definitely a diamond in the rough. Gus’s has good and inexpensive food. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic and the chicken was great. I would not recommend the fried okra as it was really salty but aside from that we were quite happy with the meal. Definitely the best we had in this immediate area

Food Amazing, Service Poor

By AdamYankton |

The food and chicken were outstanding. I crave the chicken already! The problem with this place is the staff. The waitress and hostess had a no care attitude and were very slow. Place wasn't that busy and still had hard time getting drinks refilled.

Pretty good chicken!

By TexasBuffettFan |

We placed an order to go on a Sunday evening. Couldn’t give it 5 stars since the order was wrong and had to be recycled multiple times. Honestly they seemed more concerned with shuffling people through line than being accurate. The food was very very good and cooked perfectly. If you like Nashville hot chicken I think you’ll really enjoy the food. The Mac and cheese is also outstanding.

If you've got "world famous" in your name, you better be good......this place nails it!

By dolphin80 |

Let me tell you something. If a place puts it out there that they are so called "world famous," then you better have something. I can't tell you how many places I've been to claiming to be famous for something, and then after eating the food, wondering what the heck they were talking about. I assure you that Gus's knows what it's talking about. This was probably the best chicken I've had in a long time. The other thing is, you better like your chicken spicy, because theirs is exactly that. It's not going to melt a hole in your tongue or stomach, but it does have zing you will feel for a while after eating the chicken. They had a special the night I was there, two chicken breasts and fries for $10. Yeah, you could get it cheaper at a fast food joint, but it won't taste like this did. It was awesome, and I almost found myself ordering round two. My wife got a meal deal that came with a few sides, and she opted for the beans and coleslaw, which were equally delicious. My son got the chicken tenders and he is super picky with his chicken. They do use the same spicy formula for the chicken tenders, and I was worried my son would complain, but it didn't seem to phase him. I tried a piece of his and while it had a kick, it wasn't as fiery as the bone in chicken. I tend to shy away from chains, especially when I'm travelling, as I want to try to experience the local fare, but allow me to say that this place was absolutely worth it....and it was on my mind during my entire stay in Atlanta.....calling my name to eat more of that spicy goodness!!! Service from Jennifer was fantastic, as she made recommendations, brought drinks out quick, and checked on us after the food came out. If you're even considering coming here, make the decision, you won't regret it!!

Good chicken with a side of poor customer service

By Angela C |

They have 2 waiters and if I were them I would quit. We sat at our table for 30 minutes then I finally went and grabed menus and flagged down a young lady who took our drink order it was another 30 to get those drinks and place our food order, which took about 45 minutes to arrive, meanwhile a large group that arrived 30 minutes after us received there food within 15 minutes of ordering The chicken was good but for $75 and horrific service. Never again. We could of had a whole Bojangles buffet. Don't waste your time. We sat there and watched them bring out wrong food to tables over and over, our server was also the busboy and the host. He was seating people and then ignore them , just no menus, no drinks, no food. Too .uch craziness

Just decent

By Allison W |

I liked the atmosphere. I was expecting the chicken to be out of this world based on other reviews. The chicken was just average. The sides were good.

Excellent chicken!!!

By ANTHONY R |

Driving through back home ,we discovered Gus chicken , we actually were headed to American breakfast club. Too crowded, so we drove off and by accident found this Amazing chicken restaurant. Parking garage across street, $12 for two hrs. Highly recommend!!!

Same great chicken as at the original location

By J M |

(August 2023) This wasn’t on my radar when I was scouting restaurants within a half mile from my hotel. But when I saw it, I had to stop by (Wednesday August 16). I ate at its original location in Mason, TN back in March 2022. The chicken is still amazing, but the same sides (baked beans and coleslaw) are better here. Plus, the food came out much faster than at the one in Mason. Finally, one tip. I was asked if I’m paying with cash or with a card. When places ask that, they prefer cash and I’m assuming it’s cheaper that way.

Good Food, Awful Service

By Ms Energy |

Stopped in for a mother/daughter lunch. First, the wait to be seated was unnecessarily long, as multiple tables opened-up as we waited. Once seated, the waitress took our drink order and then proceeded to ask if we knew what we wanted to order- waitress was rude, cold and unfriendly. Waitress brought an incorrect side to our table and was obviously annoyed when we told her it was not right. We were hesitant to send it back, seeing how clearly irritated she was about anything being said. Needless to say, we will not return, as it’s not worth any amount of money to sit in a restaurant and receive such poor service (and bad attitude). My daughter’s comment was that “the service took away from the food.”

Super chicken!

By Chris D |

Outstanding chicken joint! Had the 3 piece meal with fried okra and slaw. It was perfectly cooked and just spicy enough.

Tasty!

By Charlie S |

I tried the spicy fried chicken and it was great. Potato salad has a decidedly eggy taste. Service was quite friendly. Prices are reasonable.

Gus chicken Chamblee Ga

By Deastab |

spent $21 on 1/2 fried chicken no sides. We ordered for pickup. Chicken was flavorful but not much crust. Will not go back because thats really expensive for four pieces of chicken.

Crispy juicy chicken!

By Pepedad |

Stopped by for a quick bite. Service was prompt and friendly. Got the 2 piece white. The skin is fried to perfection very crispy can pull the skin off and eat like a potato chip. Nice spice and flavor. The meat is super juicy. Delicious chicken!

CheerSport must

By 261tishaa |

Recently in Atlanta for a busy cheer competition weekend and if your a cheer parent, you know the foolery of these weekends. This gem was right across the street for our hotel and did not disappoint. Was exactly what we needed after a long day....COMFORT FOOD! If your at Cheersport next year, I strongly recommend.

Great Chicken

By Debbie S |

We visited Gus's based on a recommendation from a World of Coke employee, and the chicken was very tasty and reasonably priced. If you eat here, do not leave without ordering some pie. All the pies are homemade and so very delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive.

Quite the place for chicken done right!

By Antiquetuck |

It's always nice to get seated promptly, then greeted and served - and this was met. I needed to study the menu for a few minutes before I could make up my mind, and Brittany gave me that opportunity. She delivered my water and drink before I was ready to order and was patient with me. I ordered a 'appetizer of deep fried pickle spears, a two piece dark meat, with beans and slaw with a side of greens.' I already had my lemonade. The pickles were there in short order - six nice-sized spears with a small tub of ranch to dip them in; It only too one bite to know that they were good, and they were HOT! I asked for another ranch as I knew I'd use i and Brittany brought one right over. It took a bit longer than I expected for the meal to be delivered - but when it got there it was HOT! And I mean fresh out of the fryer HOT! And it was RIGHT ON!!! The chicken had a thin, crispy crust - much thinner than I can ever remember on chicken before. But the flavor of the crust was just awesome. It was spicy, unlike any other deep-fry crust I've had before. The beans were nice and hot and had good flavor. The slaw was fresh-tasting, and had a nice lightly-creamy sauce; not quite as vinegary as I would make mine, but flavored just fine. The greens were fine - not quite to my liking, but my liking is not their problem. The menu had a caution (*) that the beans and greens had some pork bacon in them. I didn't find any pieces in the beans, but there was plenty in the greens. But, again, both of them were good. I got a refill on my lemonade before I left with my 'souvenir cup' and finished it on the way back to the hotel - it was only a block and a half walk. All in all, a good meal. I'd go back. And/but I'd save some space for some of their pie - I didn't have room for any this time.

This what you want

By PeteD |

Great establishment. Clean, friendly staff and the food is outstanding. This was my first ATL meal and Gus's has set a high standard for all the rest to live up to. Gus's is what you want in a fried chicken restaurant. I had a 2 piece white with Mac and cheese and greens, my wife had a 2 piece white with Mac and cheese and potato salad. Please give Gus's a try.

Northerners Try Gus’s

By Lvttx |

Went with a party of four. One had chicken tenders the rest had two piece fried chicken with 2 sides. The chicken was crispy and fried to perfection. Sides were baked beans, potato salad, Mac and cheese and French fries. All were good. Lucky that we went in immediately (5:00) because a line developed quickly. One appetizer of fried pickles was delicious.

Great taste

By Brian G |

Ordered the fried chicken breast and a side. The chicken had great flavor...add to your list of places to eat in ATL.

The best friend chicken I have ever tried

Delish Fried Chicken

By wsrobinson |

It was definitely some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. I usually rely on trip advisor to try new restaurants when I travel. Gus’s did not disappoint.

Mmm Mmm Good!

By Where In the World Is Santi San Diego |

Mmmm Mmmm GOOD! Finally I was able to try the world famous Gus' Fried Chicken. Yaaaasssss! The wait staff, Sam, was very polite and fun to interact with. After she found put it was my first time, she was very informative about the restaurant. My favorite fun fact that everything is fried with PEANUT OIL. I would say that's very important information to know. Her customer service attitude was perfect and never felt rushed. Now time for some CHICKEN!!! CLUCK! CLUCK! First off, the smell of the plates when it arrived was divine. My mouth instantly filled up with saliva like a water main pipe burst! A plate of 3 beautifully fried pieces of dark meat chicken, side with seasoned fries and fried okra. My first bite was a piece of skin that just crunched in my mouth with sounds of heavenly Angels walking through a forest on a fresh Fall day. Crunch crunch crunch. Mmmmmmmm The chicken was nicely seasoned with a slight kick in the mouth with spiciness. Im sensitive to hot spice and never go overwhelmed. Not one bite was dry and I tried to eat every bit of meat on every bone. Yummy! The fried okra were fried to a hard outside and a nice soft slimy inside. Okra are slimy when cooked so that how its should be. If texture is a problem foryou, be warned...but it's so good. The seasoned fries, well they are seasoned fries. Cant really mess them up. They were hot and crispy. My favorite is the more cooked pieces, crunchy. Over all the atmosphere was jamming with some classic music, my favorite, Its Raining Men by the Weather Girls and every tabled filled with chatty patrons. I say, this is a MUST do when visiting Atlanta, Georgia. I'll be back for sure to try some other sides and of course the special of the day, everyday, CHICKEN!

Too expensive for chicken that was too spicy & parking not included

By Nomad07798940386 |

I don't like spicy foods & on the outside sign in downtown Atlanta it didn't say anything about spicy. The chicken was spicy. First u have to pay for parking & that's just about anywhere downtown & it's virtually cashless. The menu is kinda expensive for chicken. My son & I order a two piece snack & I order a side of okra & we had sweet tea. It almost came out to $40. not including the $7.00 parking for a two hr. minimum. The food was not remarkable but the service was good.

This chicken will make you punch yo momma

By acooke123 |

Went here on the recommendation of a local the customer service is lacking but the food is so good. The chicken is spicy but so good you don't stop to notice. The collards were not as good mine but the mac and cheese was pretty good. I wish I had brought some chicken home. If you are ever in the ATL do your tummy a favor and visit this spot.

Great chicken and staff

By ctjustdoit |

I could get fancy here but I think like the food , let’s keep this simple. You come here for the chicken. I am from the north where good fried chicken is an oxymoron . This chicken was plump, juicy, tender, fall off the bone crispy chicken with a bit of spice . They don’t hide behind the peanut oil for frying or pork in the collards? Collards without pork? Save me . Sides included baked beans and collards. Collards were tasty and tender but a bit a crisp. Excellent Beans were the southern BBQ style some tomato, a bit sweet but well done. Not my favorite style of baked bean but I remember where I am . Could someone open a Gus’ in CT. Second thought don’t. I’d probably gain 50 lbs Service was friendly homey and just down right good

"2 minutes"

By Sherry H |

Went for lunch. Ordered and the wait began...We watched as our waitress took others orders, delivered their food and they ate...even those arriving after us. Waitress told us repeatedly "your order will be out in 2 minutes." Our order was fried chicken, no different or more difficult from anyone elses. She explained after about 20 minutes that they had "lots of take out orders called in." I'm of the opinion that as I am there in your restaurant and will be leaving a tip, you should be concerned with my order. Left after 30 minutes without lunch.

Real Southern Chicken!

By Susan T |

I was in town for a conference and decided that a "must" was to find a good place with delicious Southern fried chicken. Well, I found it at Gus's. Very reasonably priced. I had the dark meat chicken plate -- good cole slaw and baked beans! It is a discovery! Now, every time, I happen to be in Atlanta, Gus's will be a new tradition. This is the best chicken I've had in ages.

LOVE the food ... the service... not so much

By shaecarys |

Let me start by saying that I come into town for vacation and typically eat at Gus's at least three times when I'm there. This time, I did the same, but twice I was left with my table not getting food for nearly an HOUR while other tables that were sat beside us had eaten and PAID by the time we got our food. And only AFTER we complained. The owner is super nice, but this was very disappointing. I did get to spend more time talking to my friends, but several times after I was rushing to an event I needed to attend! But seriously - if it's not super busy and you have time, this place is AMAZING. Their fried chicken is second to none!

Great chicken

By Ted D |

Chicken and sides were spot on delicious. Checked it out because it was nearby . Service was good and quick and price was affordable.

Chicken in Atlanta

By Eirian W |

The chicken was good, sides were okay, not my favorite place in Atlanta for chicken. Little hard to find kind of an awkward out of the way place. Prices were ok, Sweet Tea....Not that Sweet.

Loved It!!!!! Best chicken!

By stpetedoc |

Loved It!!!!! Best chicken and mac n cheese ever!!!! Server was very sweet and food was fast and hot.

Tasty chicken!

By tkatl76 |

My eyes may have been a bit bigger than my stomach this day- ordered fried green tomatoes, chicken, greens and more. Everything was really tasty and the service was fantastic. The chicken was a little dry, but the flavor was so good it didn’t matter. Would definitely go again.

Disappointing.....

By edge8400 |

Not a bad place and I chalk up my score to doing a takeout during a busy hour. We walked in and ordered $136 of food. As busy as it was the bags were brought to us and servers scooted off to others. We were ripped off for $12 (missing seasoned fries and fried pickles) in food given the bags were loaded with and tied. This was after a 45 min wait for our order. It was definitely a disappointment all around. Do not recommend take out and if you done in come prepared for a muggy long wait. That said the food we did get was good. It was just not worth the effort we put in to get it.

Terrible chicken

By BeakerTX |

Ordered carry out to bring back to neighboring hotel. Easy pickup and empty restaurant at 6p on a weeknight. Chicken tenders were dry and tough. Okra was decent. Beans a bit sweet for my taste.

Just what I was looking for! Southern Fried Chicken

By OgopogoGuy |

I'm in Atlanta for a conference, and one of my main goals was to find some fried chicken. I wasn't disappointed! I had the two breast and one chicken wing patter with beans and coleslaw. The portions are generous, and the coating on the chicken was crispy with just a hint of spice. I was also impressed with the great service. The server brought us free refills on our pop, and explained the menu as well. My friend had collard greens instead of beans, and they looked great too. If you are in Atlanta from out of town, I highly recommend you go out for fried chicken here! It's not a fancy place, but it is delicious!

Just Meh

By Rhetta |

It was suggested that I try this restaurant because it used to be the place to go when they were young and in college. I ordered the chicken wings with coleslaw. I was completely unimpressed. The wings are fried without flour and they're a little bit peppery. My party was told that the chicken was a little spicy but it wasn't too bad. But overall I was unimpressed with the place. Especially for it to have the word famous in it's name.

Quintessential Atlanta and Fried Chicken

By Chickadee40 |

You won’t be disappointed! The food is so fresh and hot. Our favorites (besides the fried chicken!) were the crispy fried okra and southern greens. You can get an ice cold beer, including a variety of craft beers, or some southern sweet tea. Quintessential Atlanta! Don’t miss it. The slogan is right-If you haven’t eaten at Gus’s you haven’t eaten fried chicken.

The crispiest fried chicken

By OTM |

The chicken is seasoned just right with a slight spicy kick but not too much. It’s so crispy it crackles when you bite into it. I wasn’t crazy about the mac and cheese but I tend to be a mac and cheese snob so it has to be exceptional to get my praise. The food was served fast and hot. The price is cheap for downtown ATL eats. I will be back when in town again.

Good Chicken

By L.Lee |

Great chicken and sides. Price is alright, wouldn't say they're expensive, but definitely not inexpensive. I always go to Gus' when I visit Austin and was so excited to bring my family and friends here to try. They loved it so much. Even my husband who's always rating food everywhere we go gave it a 9/10. However, we ordered the kids meal with the tenders and they're spicy.. no idea that was even a thing. I always assumed kid's meals wouldn't be spicy but it was basically a total waste and they ended up eating sides like mac and cheese and fries. Only thing that kind of rubbed me the wrong way was customer service. Although the entire place as pretty much empty besides 2 other tables, it took a while for someone to seat us. They were even looking around on where to seat us.. as if there weren't 20 other tables available. Once we sat down, the server sat down right next to my husband and told him they need to automatically add 20% gratuity to our bill. We said okay, but we're totally shocked by it. Coming from NYC, rarely does that even apply unless it's a large party. Not sure if it's a norm in Atlanta since we haven't experienced that with any other restaurant we went to.

A Must Do Restaurant

By Timothy B |

I highly recommend Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken to anyone fried chicken lover. I like it spicy but they offer non spicy as well. It was just what I needed to address a cold that was coming on. It was great food at a great price. The staff was great as well.

Must Try!

By jai0777 |

This spot is super casual and the food is delicious. As a vegetarian, I had no problem ordering, I got the mac and cheese, french fries, and jalapenos. I asked and they don't fry the french fries in the same oil as the chicken. The food was excellent, I went twice on my trip. The service was also excellent. The wait staff was so friendly and personable. The owner should be incredibly proud of this place.

Authentic soul food

By AshleyB63 |

Fried chicken, greens, okra, cornbread. Need I say more? Delicious and authentic. Not pretentious, down-home cooking. You're going for the food--not the ambiance!

Great chicken - excellent service

By LivingInWien |

We brought a group of 14 over for dinner (our extended family) and had delicious chicken and excellent service. We called as we were leaving our hotel and they set up a large table for us that was ready when we arrived. Our server Angel lived up to her name - super sweet and helpful and prompt. She brought our drinks right away and food came out fairly quickly as it was ready. The chicken is a bit spicy but I’m pretty sensitive and it wasn’t too hot for me. Our kids also ate without complaining. Tenders are less spicy than chicken pieces FYI. Loved the Cole slaw, baked beans, and okra. Fried green tomatoes also a hit. Unsweetened ice tea was perfect. Highly recommend.

Best fried chicken

By peigara |

We probably had one of the best fried chicken we have ever had for that price. People is friendly. Will come back

Now this is Fried Chicken!

By Denis O |

This is perhaps some of the best fried chicken I have ever had at a restaurant. The sides are good, too. Decent size portion. Great service, as well.

Great Lunch!

By EuropeinNewYork |

If they're not "world famous," they should be. This unassuming place in a small mall in downtown Atlanta has some of the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. The breading is slightly spicy, so it makes the chicken taste even better. As well, their macaroni and cheese is out of this world! The staff was very nice and attentive, and they even changed the channel on the TV so we could watch basketball. This is a great place.

Crispy yummy chicken

By tilleybishop |

First night in Atlanta and you have to try the southern fried chicken. Gus’ chicken was delicious. Very crispy and a little bit spicy. The pieces were fairly large and the sides were tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Glad we went. Try it for yourself. You won’t be sorry.

LOVED the fried chicken !

By Cynthia C |

My boys, 11 & 13, absolutely loved this place. The chicken was moist and super tasty. The mac and cheese was so goood! as well as the coleslaw and beans. My husband and I enjoyed cold IPA with our meal.. this was an amazing meal!

Am I in Nashville??

By JGoines |

I was craving Fried Chicken and am new to the area so I go to trip advisor and this is the closest place. Great reviews. Well let's give it a try. OMG, I bit into the chicken and not only was it cold but I about choked it was so spicy. Sides with OK at best. Not sure what all the hoopla is about.

Not exactly “world famous”

By Amanda C |

So don’t get me wrong- this chicken and the sides were good and if I were back in the area I *might* go back again. However- in my opinion it was nothing special enough for a specific trip to this place. It’s a franchise- so not homemade exactly. Also- all of the chicken is spicy.

Good food, service OK.

By Mark K |

Good food, confusion over service. Staff were nice and we were seated quickly with our order being taken right away. There seemed to be a disconnect between the servers and the kitchen as several orders came out to people who seemed baffled by what was delivered to their table. We had items on our order that we'd not asked for and we did end up paying for them. That minor thing aside, the food was very good with big portions of freshly fried chicken. The coating had a little spice to it and the chicken skin was crisp.

add a bit of spice to our life

By alanlubin |

A simple menu. The fried chicken is hot and juicy. The chicken is somewhat spicy, great for lovers of spice(not too hot), but if you don't like spice, this might not be the place for you. I had the three piece. The waitress suggested the planks to my wife which were less spicy, which they were but still had too much for her. Informal and nice staff. They also had catfish in the mild spice zone.

Delicious fried chicken

By Kelly C |

I haven’t had fried chicken in forever, and Gus’s was amazing! They’re advertised as hot and spicy, but it’s not too bad— just the right amount of kick. Cool environment, and friendly service. Definitely going to visit again next time I’m in Atlanta.

It was “just” ok

If you go. They only have fried chicken nothing else on menu. I can open a can of pork and beans and put a little sugar in it. Coleslaw was OK. Chicken had a nice crunch and was moist. If you like spice it was spicy. My friend cannot have spice so ask the waitress if they had mild she said yes they had mild chicken tenders with no spice unfortunately they cooked the mild chicken tenders in the same grease as they do the spicy chicken so they could not eat it. The coconut pie was not coconut cream pie. It was very different and crunchy. Don’t think I’ll go back.

Tasty fried chicken and pies

Spicy tasting fried chicken. They have a yummy pies selection. We enjoyed our meals there for two dinners.

Great service and tasty chicken

By Tim W |

This was my first experience at a Gus's chicken place. The chicken was lightly breaded and spicy. I loved the flavor and texture. I will definitely be seeking out their chain for more chicken. This location had great service and a friendly staff. We stopped here on our way from the airport and they even pointed out a place near our table where we could stash our luggage out of the way while we ate. Great Southern sides too.

Best fried chicken ever.

I've never been to Memphis and had not heard of Gus's before but fried chicken is a huge guilty pleasure of mine, so when I saw that there was one attached to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, where I'd be staying, I was excited to try it. I don't think could've imagined it would be this good. The chicken is super-moist and has a lot of flavor, and the outside is fried chicken perfection. The crust is crunchy, crispy and seasoned just right. It says hot and spicy, but it wasn't too spicy for me (or my dining companions, who aren't are more spice-adverse than I am). I got the 2-piece white (breast and wing) and wish I had gotten the 3-piece white (with an additional breast) because it was so delicious I totally picked every bit off right to the bones. The sides were good but the chicken was the main event for me. I recommend the seasoned fries. btw, I thought it would be counter service, but it's actually table service. Our server was great and very patient with us newbies. If you're NOT into spicy food, I would not be frightened away. Also our server said that while all the chicken is hot and spicy, the chicken tenders are apparently a bit less spicy because they are skinless.

Crispy and tasty

Enjoyed the tasty fried chicken, baked beans, and greens. Service was friendly. Extremely casual. Some difficulty finding as we had to go through an underground mall like food court to get there.

Great food-great service!

The best fried chicken ever! The chicken was nice and crispy with a little spice. I also had the coleslaw and it was delicious. Our server, Jennifer was a complete delight! She is the best!

First Visit

Heard good things about Gus’s and wanted to give it a try. First time and I stopped in for take out for my family. Very friendly server, RainsF. She was very helpful. I ordered the 12 piece snack, fried pickles and jalapeños. We all liked the chicken and will eat more of Gus’s chicken

Decent fast food, NOT world famous

By Sears C |

The place is am okay atmosphere with GREAT service but it's basically a sit down fast food place and the food seems to match. It's not bad, but it's not great. The Mac and Cheese is the only rememberable part.

Yoooooo!!!!

By Team McLemore |

My whole meal was crack!!!! The fried chicken is seasoned like mom, the fries are seasoned like mom, the mac and cheese is baked like mom, the greens are made like mom, the potato salad is made like mom!!!

Damn good chicken!

Just flat out great chicken. I fancy myself a chicken connoisseur and this place delivered. The crisis was second to none. The slightly spicy seasoning was perfection. I’m coming back many times in the future.

Never go to a restaurant at closing time!

By Franklin M |

I had my misgivings about paying $20 for two pieces of chicken. And went against my #1 rule, never go to a restaurant before closing time. I spent the entire night throwing up from both ends! Food poisoning from the Chamblee location.

Good food Great service

We were on vacation from California and stopped to eat here. The food and the service was Excellent! Our server (can’t remember his name, I know he mentioned he was from Chicago) he was friendly. and kept making sure we had drinks/refills, awesome customer service. The fried chicken is super delicious! We definitely recommend this place.

Chess Pie. Checkmate!

By Blubusdrvr |

I had a bit of a sweet tooth and for some reason, pie was my decided target. I literally walked by and stopped in this place. I was greeted twice. I got a slice of chocolate chess pie and it was just what I was after: a homemade, flaky crust filled with goodness. So far I haven’t had much luck with service here in Atlanta but Gus’ oozed with it. I can’t wait to come back and actually try their chicken!

Terrible service

By Terrence j |

Gus's by Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta has good food no doubt, but where they fail miserably is with the servers. All women(no pun intended) seem more interested in their phones than the customers.. U have to wait after being seated for long periods while they discuss family, parties, n what's trending.. As a major eatery in a major city where persons from all walks of life and countries converge I feel the service is too ghetto.. Make no mistake as I too am from the hood but when I need ghetto service I go to the hood, not to a place such as Gus's.. Some training would be good...

Cheap, conveniently located, delicious and unhealthy

By Raul B |

Friend chicken in peanut oil? Yes, this is the house specialty and it is delicious (certainly, well above the average fried chicken). The coleslaw and the fried pickles are also fantastic. Add a $3 can of PBR, and you'll have a great dinner! Comfy food that, unfortunately, it is not good for your health. If you are staying in Atlanta's downtown, this is definitely a convenient (and very cheap) restaurant for you.

Good & Hot Fried Chicken!

Awesome fried chicken and fried pickles

Tried Gus' because of the high reviews and I love fried chicken and I was not disappointed. Chicken was great as well as the sides. Ordered the fried pickles and they were great also. I will be back.

Great service ! Great food. Good place to eat great chicken while you are in the area. Fully recommended.

Second time at Gus's and did not disappoint!

By Kevin |

I experienced Gus's in Memphis six years ago, and when I found out there was one in downtown Atlanta, I knew I had to make a stop here. The chicken is SO good; it's got a little kick to it but not too spicy. Based off the photos, the plates don't appear to be big, but it fills you up pretty good. Also got to try a slice of sweet potato pie too. Tasty southern-style food and pretty affordable.

Great Fried Chicken

By Aeonian Nomads |

We have dined at Gus’s in Memphis and was looking forward to trying their Atlanta restaurant. We were not disappointed as our 3 piece dark meat plate of chicken, baked beans and slaw was amazing. Highly recommended!

If I could give more then 5 stars I would!

We read about Gus's on here and we wanted some good fried chicken when we were in Atlanta, and boy did we find it! Good God! The chicken had a tiny kick of spice which made it even better! Our waitress was amazing (forgot her name- oops). The greens, mac & cheese & baked beans were more then what we expected! It's in a mall type area. Do not let this fool you, a lot of places are in here. You NEED to stop here for some good Southern food!
