Decent

By TravellingTex |

Friday at 6 pm is a busy and noisy time at Gusto. The happy hour specials draw lots of customers. We had the braised pork shank ($15.75) which was pretty good, but a little dry. The linguine and mussels ($13.25) tasted ok but there wasn't much of it, and the mussels were the smallest I've ever seen. The spaghetti Carbonara ($9.75) was fine. A bottle of $15.25 Garnacha was surprisingly good. Caitlin our server was great -very friendly and efficient. We might try this place again, but then again, with so many fantastic restaurants in Austin, maybe not.

Funky neighborhood atmosphere, Good food

By sam m |

Had a very good Tuna salad nicoise there. Pizza looked good. On a busy street so the outdoor patio was noisy. Funky interior but enjoy the food and ignore the decor.

Great menu for families of all ages!

By RedMonkey25 |

We ate here with three generations and everyone had a super meal. The kids enjoyed pizza while the adults had several Italian specialties that tasted wonderful. Tuesday was 25% off a bottle of wine night so we splurged and got a more expensive wine than we normally would-and no one complained. There is a nice children's menu that is reasonably priced and the adult meals were all under $20. We had calamari and brussel sprout appetizers and they were both excellent.

Mid week Lunch

By anitap417 |

So my friend had a buy one lunch get one free, which was just as well. The standard menu is used for Lunch & Dinner so you are paying dinner prices for very mediocre food. I had the Risotto ( not a Gordon Ramsey one) it looked like a small bowl of oatmeal, served in a white small bowl with no garnishment, it was unappetizing and tasted just ok. Recommendation none, I like to eat at the local restaurants but they have to make you want to go back and they didn't do that.

Great Sunday Brunch!

By Carmen724 |

My husband and I visited Gusto's for Sunday Brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel welcome. The entire staff was very friendly, and our server, John, was most attentive. Kudos to head chef, Jeanise, and her assistant, Justin, for the excellently prepared food choices. The pork tenderloin was so moist and tender and just melted in our mouths. There were several salad choices that were all very good and I really enjoyed the fresh cantaloupe with mint, rosemary potatoes, and the pasta dish. The brussel sprouts....oh the brussel sprouts...they were out of this world! Dessert was good as well, with tiramisu, chocolate torte, fresh strawberries and raspberries, and a delicious whipped cream. The place has good ambiance and the decor is very interesting. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in town.

Lovely and authentic Italian

By Colorado70 |

Day after Thanksgiving. No crowd. Lovely and polite wait staff. Very kind, patient, and attentive. The pizzettas and bolognese plus the caesar salad made the night with a full bar that includes fine wines.

Gusto, Sixties Italy in the Heart of Texas

By PappyHiker |

Gusto is an Austin neighborhood restaurant for me, but so much more. I lived in Rome in 1973 and Gusto takes me back to the glory days of Marcello Mastrioanni and Sophia Loren. The pictures, literal icons, of these Italian stars are depicted on the restaurant walls along with Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn from the Roman Holiday film. That Sixties Italy tone is set by the stencil artwork done by Austin street artist Federico Archuleta. How appropriate is it that Mexican-American artist Archuleta has the first name Federico? Federico... the same as the cinematic maestro Federico Fellini. Fellini's films always have a human dimension and an element of magic. Gusto Italian Kitchen has both of these qualities. My wife and I are always warmly welcomed by the staff. Cameron, the manager, takes time to chat and make us feel like family. The bar has Roman charm. I love the food. The Caesar and Mista salads are highly recommended. The pizzas are exceptional. I'm a seafood guy and so Linguini Frutti di Mari is my favorite pasta dish and the Cioppino is another savory seafood entree. The Rotini alla Crema is an excellent chicken entree. The chef clearly has taken time to design a varied, high quality menu. Recommend Gusto with the greatest affection! And the patio is the best in Austin.

Good food

By Neskya |

Gusto (at dinner) is a really good experience. The servers and the management both are attentive, and make good suggestions. The noise level is too high, even with the additions (cloth things on the ceiling - I'm sure they have a lovely architectural name), but the food is yummy. Lunch, not so good, mostly because they seem to have the same menu and it's just not a lunch menu. But then, it's been a year since I had lunch there, so maybe ...

Remembering Yesteryear's Sunday Brunches

By Tomassinverguenza |

Sunday Brunch remains a grand custom from an era when restaurants put on their best feet forward when it came to food choices and display. Today? Fewer examples, less effort, and most often characterized by routine mediocrity. Not so at Gusto, where simple and carefully prepared dishes, many Italian (or "Italianate", are attractively displayed. The restaurant is calm and comfortable, a good choice in a city with many choices. An extended family group of 15, 2 of them two years old (near "Terrible Twos" at that, was met hospitably, seated comfortably, and attentively cared for. The bar executed the standard "brunch" drinks, and the staff rose to meet my standard, Campari & soda (even remembering and orange slice) I liked most everything at the buffet, but give special plaudit to dessert, a "flourless" chocolate cake served with big bowls of "real" whipped cream and macerated fresh strawberries. Prices are moderate, and in a city with many restaurants, not a few of high quality, Gusto is worth a visit.

A great experience on a cold night!

By Mona M |

This is a favorite place in Austin with a popular bar and indoor/outdoor restaurant. The chef is adventurous, the pizza crust just perfect, soups and antipasti tasty but not overwhelming. We have enjoyed the Cioppino and the Pasta Puttanesca previously. Tonight we just had the Lentil soup, Brussels-sprouts in balsamic reduction, and Fungi Pizza, complemented with a nice Barolo and finished with a Bread-pudding/raspberry coulis dessert. Mmmm! We travel often in Italy and so make very critical comparisons. Gusto is up there with the best in our opinion.

Over price for simple food you can make at home

By Erick R |

The food was just OK. The polenta fries were overdone. The serving sizes were tiny for the price and food quality. The bill was outrageous for what we got. Even our waiter seemed to be totally unexcited by the menu options. We would never go back.

Gusto's for lunch

By Barry Lee B |

Gusto's for lunch is a very pleasant experience; not too crowded, attentive service, and a nice choice of reasonably priced lunch specials. As an added touch the co-owner usually stops by to greet and welcome us.

Nice Lunch …

By CharlieinTexas |

Took my employees for lunch on Monday. Neighborhood restaurant, that my wife and I usually go to for dinner. Quiet at lunchtime, at least on this Monday. Friendly server and sadly, I asked his name and then promptly forgot what he said. Sorry. Food was delicious and service was great. Focaccia bread never disappoints. I had chicken Parmesan, which was fantastic, sitting on top of some really tasty green beans. My employees had pasta dishes that they said were very good. Atmosphere is nice. Parking can be a challenge. Not inexpensive, but I think the prices are reasonable for the setting, service, and food.

Good Food

By Atalinder |

Good food. Fast service. Nice server. Far away from Austin downtown. Got parking space and outdoor sitting.

I was expecting more

By DocHarrisHHI |

This is a recently opened concept by the folks that run 34th Street Cafe so I was expecting more. The decor is wine bistro casual and nicely done with outdoor seating as well. The menu was a bit limited, in my opinion, for a dinner menu with a few specials and some casual dinners on the regular selection. The wine list was very nice and fairly priced. Our meals were good but I was expecting more. I just got the feel that we (six older folks) were not the target audience. We have been to the 34th Street Cafe at least weekly since dinning here so I guess I'm saying if you like these folks, spend just a little more and have a finer dinning experience.

Enjoyable Italian

By Drema D |

This is like that place you wish was in your neighborhood so you could walk over and grab a bite. The food is consistently good with recognizable ingredients. Their pastas are fresh and the pizzas are wonderful. Curiously, they don't offer drink specials at Happy Hour although they do have good specials on food.

Best Brunch

By Zinner10 |

Although we have had lunch and dinner quite a few times at Gusto, we believe they have the best brunch in Austin. The food is delicious and the "price is right". Wonderful enviornment and excellent service.

Excellent Take-Out Meal During Coronavirus

By CharlieinTexas |

First, thanks for being open during the COVID-19 restrictions. Second, nice job of setting up the restaurant to keep everyone safe! Caeser salad was very tasty, brussels sprouts were an A+, full of flavor, the grilled shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the meatballs were in a delicious sauce. 1/2 price for the bottle of wine was a treat! Thanks!

OK but nothing to write home about

By J E |

Easy to make a 7:30pm reservation for four at 5pm on the same day. Overall a nice experience. I wouldn't say the food was spectacular. My husband got the special which was two grilled scallops. I got the seafood linguine. The other couple got the scallops special and the lamb. My husband said his was ok if not small. Mine was fine as well but nothing to write home about. The parking lot is small for the size of the restaurant. Free parking in the streets of the neighborhood. Staff was friendly and attentive. More than likely will go back again. Maybe another dish will be better. Can be hard to hear as the noise level is high.

A Nice place forr a quiet meal

By PickyOldMan |

My companion and I went to Gusto Italian on a Tuesday evening and were delighted by the quiet and calm atmosphere. The restaurant was busy with patrons seated at all tables but the servers were right on top of every detail with friendly and very courteous service. We ordered several small things to split, including the Tuesday night special Pizza Salsiccia. Everything was very good and generously proportioned. Our server, Shawn gets 5 gold stars from us.

Great food and a casual dining

By Michael E |

My wife and I enjoyed an evening out at Gustos especially the service and the appetizers. It is a good location for casual but yet fine food and wine.

Ciopinno

By Anne-GreenEyes |

Several friends chose to have late night drinks and supper at Gusto's one weeknight after choir practice. I ordered their cioppino for the second time, and it was just as delicious as the first time I ate it here. Give it a try. We ate outside on their lovely patio and enjoyed a delightful evening.

Nice patio, great wine list, dog friendly

By Sheila W |

Wonderful food, wine and cozy Rosedale neighborhood atmosphere. Families, couples of all ages, and dogs on leash enjoyed the patio and great food on a recent Friday night. Gusto's is the type of restaurant with a local feel and international flavor. We will be back! Did I say great wine list?

Very Disappointed!!

By Alexander B |

We attended on a week night with the restaurant about 25% occupied. We waited 20 minutes for our waiter and only then after asking the young man who had brought the bread and water. The chopped salad was a pleasant surprise but the fettuccine carbonara was terrible. It was overcooked, dry(unable to add any cheese or it would not have been edible), tasteless and obviously had been cooked hours before. This was the fourth occasion to eat with Gusto in the last year and it certainly is the last.

Try the humble pannacotta

By chemtex |

While the food is great and so are the desserts, don't overlook the humble pannacotta. It is just the perfect end to a nice Italian meal and won't leave you overfull. With a cup of coffee or decaf, it is the perfect end to a meal. You could even split one with a bit of fruit on the side.

Calamari

By Jensoid |

Not being too familiar with the offerings on Burnet, we were feeling a little peckish after a shopping trip to Russell Korman. I had been to Blue Star, but was curious as to what this Italian wine bar had to offer. Pleasantly appointed surroundings welcomed us as we entered and we made our way to our usual seats in a restaurant, the bar. We were greeted by a young man smiling and asking us if we would like something to drink. Birthday girl grabbed a Martini and I settled for a cold one. Not really feeling the need to get something substantial, just a few bites as we made our way leisurely home. I spotted the PEI Mussels and we also ordered up the Calamari. Actually called Fritto Misto. Our bartender was attentive and busy! As I watched him prepare drinks, he was quite proficient and skilled. Our appy's arrived. The PEI Mussels were abundant and not a closed one in the bunch. The broth was as traditional as one could expect. Flavorful broth of white wine, garlic and shallot's rounded out the dish and a nice toasted focaccia was on top to sop up all the broth. The Fritto was excellent. Whole small wedges of lemon and artichoke bits encrusted with the semolina batter was something we had not experienced before. However, it was excellent. I would of never thought to eat a complete lemon wedge this way or anyway for that matter, but this added to the dish. The calamari was a generous helping and included the tentacles which far to often are left out. We inquired the bartender about any other place on the street we should check out while in the hood, and he recommended we check out apothecary just a short walk away. This turned out to be a stellar recommendation. I like the fact that he would recommend a competitor if you would. Great little spot on Burnet and we will be dropping in again soon for a full dinner

Solid Italian, good happy hour

By CharlieinTexas |

Have eaten here several times. Service generally attentive, although sometime wait persons tend to forget about you. Excellent meatballs. Solid fried offerings. Reasonable price. Good variety on happy hour offerings. Good, not great Italian choice, and restaurant has a cozy feel away from the entrance.

Pastured Raised Roasted Chicken!

By John D |

I just want to say a big “Thank you!” To Gusto for adding pasture raised chicken to their menu. Good for me, good for the planet. And oh, it’s really tasty with their very Italian wine list btw…

Nice Happy Hour & Dinner

By marfishbar |

My sister and I had drinks and dinner here one early Saturday evening and were not disappointed. My sister's chicken gemelli was creamy and delicious. My spaghetti carbonara was terrific. We were too full for dessert but plan to partake the next time we go. It was very busy by the time we left so plan accordingly. A great new addition to the Austin scene!

Good dining experience

By pamhere |

We were there early Sunday evening so it wasn't crowded. I'm pretty hard to please but I thought the food was excellent. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese pasta dish and it was outstanding. The service was great thanks to our waiter Michael and the price was reasonable. I'm going to recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Enjoyable meal

By pegomh |

I had an early dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wait staff (Drew) was friendly and helpful. The caprese salad was excellent with heirloom tomatoes and a perfect balsamic vinagrette. A nice glass of wine, some meatballs and bruchetta (goat cheese and pesto) were a perfect meal. I would definitely go back.

Good meal, excellent value

By PigeonBlue |

I was taken here by friends whilst staying in Austin and we enjoyed a delicious meal in pleasant surroundings at an excellent price. Would definitely consider coming again next time I'm in town.

Great food and great value

By TheIrishWildRover |

Dropped in for a casual lunch with toddler......the dishes were very tasty and fresh and portion size was good. The kids menu was great....large plate for $6! Staff were very friendly and helpful..we are looking forward to our next visit.

Primo Gusto Italian Kitchen

By D B |

Brunch here is a hidden gem! $16.95 includes a antipasti buffet and unlimited orders off a delicious a-la-carte menu. Plus it includes dessert and coffee/juice. Just on the deal alone it is a great value but when you add in the fact that the food is absolutely delicious it really is a must visit. The service is top-notch and the ambiance is great for a casual yet formal brunch option. Don't miss out.

Great food, nice ambiance

By PocketKitten |

We love Italian food and wanted to try a place we hadn't been to before, and we found Gusto. The setup of the place is nice with cool "graffiti" artwork on the walls. It was bustling but not loud, as many places are these days. My husband had the bolognese pasta. It was very good with a rich, meaty flavor but a little heavy-handed with the pepper in the sauce. I had the short ribs which were delicate and delicious, although a fairly small portion with more fat than I expected. The scalloped veggies were amazing. We also had the roasted root vegs and focaccia bread, which were yummy. The wine choices are wonderful as well. Our server was polite and quick to take care of us. All in all, it was a lovely dinner. It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the quality of food.

Outstanding Italian cuisine

By Pocholoboy |

I stumbled into this restaurant during Austin Restaurant Week and I was blown away! Terrific meal with attention to detail and service extraordinaire! Homemade ricotta with figs and prosciutto de Parma, followed with amazing lemon asparagus risotto and perfectly seared scallops was truly a fine dining experience. House made cannoli topped and exceeded my expectations. Fabulous!

Nice place and good food

By drwatsonjd |

I stopped by this place tonight with two friends of mine. The wait staff was very attentive. The waiter gave his honest opinion regarding food choices (which I always appreciate). We ordered three appetizers and three entrees and everything was very good.

Just OK

By jjm_Texas |

I wanted to love this place - but the food is just average. And the noise level is so high it is almost impossible to hear.

good food

Really good food at reasonable prices and patient service

By Lisa M |

i went for lunch. I needed a quiet table and we were offered, and allowed to consider, a few tables. We had questions Repeatedly before being ready to order and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I went for lunch the next day again. I told a friend and she wanted to try too. Good service. Food quality good, see below, ambiance great. It is intimate. Nice small bar area. Outside patio I can't wait to try when it warms up. Worth a try definitely. I think it is easy (and yet rare) to provide good food when you charge $30-$40 an entree. Harder around $15-$20. Can't wait to try dinner. Not for big groups. Recommend: chicken and roasted tomato panini, mista salad, Carrot soup, cannoli, chocolate torte, coffee. Bland: bread and olive oil, caesar salad, white bean soup. Good not great: spaghetti and meatballs, spinach lasagna (light tomato sauce) beet and arugula salad.

High Quality Food

By paulina r |

Originally we were going to go to another restaurant in the area but decided to try Gusto instead. We were very impressed with the food served there. Everything is fresh from the vegetables to the seafood. I would recommend the Seared Scallops as they were perfectly cooked!

cosy non pretentious little wine bar/restaurant

By mrs_cb |

This is our to go place for Sunday brunch. A nice though small selection of foods buffet style - not a big all you can eat type of place, but rather a select choice of foods: an antipasto (yes, antipasto, which in Italian means before the meal, and not anti pasta, before the pasta, as many tend to think) platter with Italian cured meats, cheeses, nuts etc., followed by one or two pasta dishes, a roast loin of pork, or a roast beef with rosemary potatoes, and a couple of vegetables, a variety of salads and a few more dishes that I can't remember, plus 3 to 4 delicious desserts. I am told that the format has slightly changed recently and that only the appetizers are on a buffet, the rest is on the menu, we will have to try it. Brunch on their patio is the best! Give it a try! We have also been there for dinner many times and never had any complaints. We've been frequenting this restaurant since the first weeks they opened and always enjoy going there.

Must have been an off night

By raggazza1 |

The reviewer in the Austin Monthly really liked this place, so we took several co-workers for dinner on a weeknight. Place was packed, so they are apparently quite popular. In our case, however, the polenta fries took almost a half hour to arrive, calimari was pretty unexciting, one person's dinner pizza was burned on one side, the risotto plate was cleared with more than half remaining on the plate and no questions asked by the waiter. My chicken gemelli was very good, though, and I would recommend it to anyone. I really wanted to like this place but the lackadaisical service and mostly so-so food just didn't do it.

Great Service and Pizza

By Kim M |

We visited Gusto last night, and sat at the bar and had a great experience. The bartender Peter was knowledgeable and friendly. He recommended some great wines and the pizza (Italian job) was yummy. We will definitely return and enjoy the lovely patio. We also visited before 7pm and received a happy hour discount.

Nice neighborhood restaurant

By Ted P |

My wife and I recently visited Gusto for a weeknight dinner. The restaurant has done a nice job of providing enticing indoor and outdoor seating. Clientele was clearly "neighborhood" with a good mix of children, young and old. It was clear from the conversations around us that several of the visitors on that night were regulars. That's always a good sign. The wine list was nice but not exceptional. It had a strong tendency towards wines done in an old world style. That's not necessarily surprising at an Italian restaurant however I would have preferred more stylistic variety. The wait staff were pleasant and friendly. We were seated rapidly and well served. Our waiter was not particularly knowledgeable about wine. He was otherwise pleasant and helpful however more wine experience would have been nice. At least in terms of the wine list. Service was quick. The food was good, well prepared, honest food but didn't have much in terms of creativity. It's about what you would expect from a neighborhood restaurant. Overall the experience was good. If I were in the neighborhood, I would stop by again but I wouldn't make a special trip just for Gusto.

Good Lunch spot

By myesperi |

The restaurant has a trendy modern Italian feel. It's a small restaurant but not crowded. My favorite was the crab cake. Excellent flavor. The focaccia bread could have used some more flavor, perhaps more sea salt on top. I had the fettuccine and it was very good. Do keep in mind at this moment they are adding 20% service fee automatically to your order due to covid. My husband had a panini and it was a good portion. It also needed a bit more flavor but the pickled vegetables complemented the dish well. The service was friendly, but I do think for lunch the price is a bit high.

A Taste of Italy in your backyard!

By Todd White |

Recently I had the opportunity to dine at Gustos in North-Central Austin in the Rosedale neighborhood. I went in expecting a standard Italian dining experience but that quickly changed. There are some of the usual items you would expect like lasagna and spaghetti but the menu truly reflects what I would expect if I had stepped into a restaurant in Italy. The restaurant is so inviting as you walk in. There is an outdoor patio for dining or drinks and appetizers with friends and a dining room with rich colors and stenciled Italian “graffiti” by local artist Federico Archuleta. The vibe of this restaurant fits a date night spot, a place for a special occasion dinner, a casual meal with friends or just cocktails. Their goal of being a local, neighborhood restaurant is very evident and feels welcoming to all that step inside. We started off with a variety of antipasta, primi and insalata dishes. Everything was so fresh and delicious. It was truly hard to choose but I will say that the piatto grande (meat and cheese tray) and the beefsteak tomato were favorites of mine. Another favorite was the arancini stuffed with mozzarella and grana padano and served with romesco. Between these starters and a glass of wine, I could have made an entire meal but why stop there. Next we moved on to pasta dishes and salads. The nicoise salad was fantastic! The smoked salmon, egg and red wine/mustard vinaigrette really set this apart from other salad options on the menu. The pasta was fantastic as well. We enjoyed bolognese and carbonara pasta dishes. Both were amazing. The bolognese featured papparedelle and the carbonara featured traditional spaghetti pasta. All pastas are made fresh in house and you can tell the difference. The carbonara was especially wonderful in my opinion but then again when a fresh farm egg is on top it’s hard to go wrong...but seriously, the taste was so rich and the guanciale was the perfect meat for this dish. Lastly, the main dish was a whole roasted mediterranean sea bass. Truthfully I was not expecting this and was pleasantly surprised! This was amazing. The sea bass was served with fresh asparagus in extra virgin olive oil and risotto cacio e pepe. The presentation was stunning, almost too pretty to eat but we wasted no time in tasting this dish. The fish was roasted to perfection topped with capers and a side of arugula with grapefruit, the asparagus was tender and the risotto was just right. It was the perfect dish to end our dining experience on. I highly recommend Gustos. You will not be disappointed. Plan to eat here when you have time to relax and savor the food. Dishes are prepared when ordered and made fresh.

First-rate Experience

By MichiganBanjoMan |

I don't normally toss off superlatives when rating restaurants, but I have to say that Gusto was truly excellent. We arrived at 6:30 on a Wednesday, early enough to take advantage of happy hour prices. Those included a couple of interesting specialty drinks ("Cacciatore d'Luna" and "Manhattan High Reyes"), whose discounted prices made them seem like a pretty good deal. The Fritto Misto appetizer was delicious. Its breaded calamari was not at all greasy, and had shapes that you won't get from Sysco, and the other ingredients added their own flavors while complementing the calamari. The mixed greens salad was excellent, and the Linguini and Clams main was superb. Likewise for the "Rotii alla Crema", not overly rich and with the pasta cooked al dente. Complementing the meal was a good bottle of Montepulciamo red, which cost about $25 with the happy hour discount. Service was very attentive and well paced. The atmosphere is casual and noisy, but if you're lucky enough to secure the corner booth that was assigned to us, you'll be able to have a conversation with your dinner partner(s). And you can expect a fine meal without breaking the bank.

Lovely place for lunch

By drjfkennedy |

We had a delightful lunch here. Great antipasto, lovely entrees. The service was very good, the sommelier was very helpful. Had a delicious wine. It is rather tucked away but well worth finding it for a leisurely, delicious lunch. Outside surrounding might deter you but the ambience inside this place is lovely.

Love it!

By CleosKeeper |

This is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant. It is quiet at lunch and has great, well priced specials a d a nice lunch menu. It is hopping at night! The patio is lovely. Try the mushroom risotto.

Favorite of friends

Went with friends who have been before and loved it. The Caesar dressing is the best. Really happy we went. Good food.

Really, Really Good Food

By Wendell H |

We ate here for the first time today and the food was fantastic. The Pasta Carbonara was classic - raw egg, scallions and Parmesan cheese. One of the best Carbonara's I've ever had - including Italy!

Low key fine dinning

By DoubleM2 |

The first time here, it was a "early dinner date". They didn't let me down. The waiter was well versed in all the dishes and specials, right down to the ingredients used in each dish! I was very pleased, as was my date, with our chosen dishes. The atmosphere was casual-fine dinning. The presentation of each dish, showed that the chef had fine dinning experience.

Fabulous little Italian restaurant

By ItIzWhatItIz |

I really enjoy this location. We have been twice and it has been fabulous both times. The food is absolutely amazing. The tastes are so savory. The meatballs are great, (almost as good as homemade). The Alfredo dish I feel is inadequately named, because it is the best “Alfredo” you will ever have, so creamy & full of flavor! I also like this place because of the staff. Leslie, the waitress we had each time was friendly and attentive. I was really impressed by the manager each visit as well. He was always hustling around the restaurant, helping his team with whatever- cleaning, serving, drinks, etc. This place is def worth checking out if you’re looking for a great local Italian spot!

Excellent for couples and family

By Great Pyrenees Lover |

Reasonably priced and fun Italian/American restaurant with nice decor and good service. Excellent food, good salads and pizzas, wonderful deserts. Nice design too. Easy parking too. Will come back!

A Gem of a Casual Neighborhood Italian

By Walter T |

This casual Italian Trattoria has it all-food, service ambience. The caprese salad was made with burrata and a delicious pesto and roasted cherry tomatoes. The pasta Bolognese was terrific and the pizza marguerita very good. Dessert of ricotta zeppole was excellent. Finally, the lattes were served at the correct temperature (not scalding hot) which almost never happens. We will definitely go back.

Excellent place to eat

By katyata1 |

First time here. I was in town visiting relatives for New Years Eve and we decided to try this restaurant on New Years Day. Excellent service from Ashton with a great wine recommendation. Food was served hot and on time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want real Italian food!

Lovely Place!

By josephedward71 |

Salads and pizzas are A+. Very friendly servers and marvelous atmosphere. I highly recommend. In fact, I'm going there tonight.

Average

By Scaramouche |

We went with friends and were expecting to be wowed but it fell a little short with us on the food. Loved the wine special. We arrived before 7pm and received 50% off any bottle of wine so we took advantage of that. The foof was just average IMO.

Poor service!

By Celia B |

I have always enjoyed dining at Gustos! The bolognese is the best in town. Sadly the restaurant doesn’t offer capellini anymore, so I won’t order bolognese in the future. I’m giving a 3 star rating because I found the waiter to be condescending. He gave us Happy hour information including the discount on a bottle of wine. I inquired if there were Happy hour specials by the glass to which he replied there were not. That was fine, but after ordering a glass he asked me if I understood that a discount only applied to ordering a bottle. That was totally unnecessary. I understood him perfectly after the first explanation. He then brought us an appetizer of olives. He informed us the smaller empty bowl was for the olive pits. That was just asinine! I’ve always had excellent service until the other night. Sadly his tip reflected on him treating us like were mentally deficient. The lad needs to serve food and abandon color commentary. I planned on ordering a second glass of wine, but he did not check on us during the meal. Your loss of revenue. I will return, but will ask for another waiter if he shows at our table.

Delightful Italian Kitchen

By Stephany777 |

Gusto is a charming, Italian style eatery. We went for drinks, and decided to have the Prosecco, it was perfect. We also decided to indulge in dessert, which turned out to be an excellent idea. We had the Cannoli, which was filled with ice cream, and the flour less Chocolate Torte. The torte was extremely Rich & decadent and my favorite. We finished our sweets outside on there beautiful patio. Delightful atmosphere, Rich desserts, great drinks and wonderful friends. In the Italian language, Gusto is Splendido!

Delicious Lunch

By CharlieinTexas |

Ate lunch with my wife. Cozy setting. Friendly server that was a well-trained professional, not someone that was just passing through … Enjoyed the daily soup selection, a broccoli and asparagus soup in a chicken (I think) broth. Served at a perfect temperature, with fresh ingredients. I’ll see you soon. It was delicious. Future future salad, which is highly recommend. All kinds of yummy ingredients. Latte was a nice finish to an excellent lunch meal. Three cheers to the chef. Friendly/engaging manager too.

Classy little place!

By 865marnif |

Stopping for drinks on the way home, Gusto is a great surprise! The décor and atmosphere are delightful, the menu is amazing and the service was quite good. We only had drinks and focaccia this visit, but we look forward to returning!

Not for the food

By KMayATX |

I’ve been going to this restaurant on and off for years. The food is not the reason I come, but the place does have attractive qualities. It’s a great spot for a spirit in a comfortable but semi upscale environment. The lighting is perfect and the decor is attractive. You’ll see couples, friends enjoying a meal together and small families. This place also has a great patio with comfortable seating. It’s awesome for those TX nights that are a little cooler. I repeat, I don’t go for the food. This place would be an Austin gem if the food was as great as the mood, and cocktails.

Very Good Italian fare in a cozy, hip atmosphere

I received a gift card for Gusto, so my wife and I ate there last night to spend it. Of course, we ended up spending some of our own money as well! The atmosphere at Gusto is very laid back and somewhat kitschy...in a good way. But the food is the thing, isn't it? We started with their highly vaunted Roasted Brussel Sprouts My wife devoured them. I'm not a Brussel Sprouts kind of guy, but I tried one, and it was pretty good. We shared an order of Fritto Misto, mostly fried calamari, but shrimp, onions, jalapenos, garliccloves and olives, no less. The batter was light and not at all greasy. Delicious, with a tangy Marinara sauce and a garlicky aioli. My wife had Linguini and Clams as her entree. The clams were dusted with parsley, and she reported the linguine to be perfectly cooked al dente. I had a Margherita Pizza with added pepperoni and garlic. It was the thinnest crust I've ever eaten, edges slightly charred...yum, yum! Very tasty! It won't take a gift card to get me to return. A tip: Arrive before 7 pm and enjoy all Appetizers at $2 off, as well as 25% off all bottled wine.

We have been on Burnett Road a hundred + times, and never seen this restaurant--what an oversight!

We were in the area and had a desire for Italian food in North Austin. We looked up the options on TA and Gusto popped up! We were surprised to see it so close to where were and went to it to try it out. This was totally out of the blue and we had no idea it even existed. The restaurant is a very nondescript little place on the west side of Burnett Road close to 45th Street. The signage is low key and the parking lot is 4 spaces in front and another 10 on the side. If it is really crowded, parking could be an issue. There are a number of residential areas off Burnett and they may have some restrictions. Fortantly, there were no problems when we arrived at 6--sadly, just missing the happy hour, which appears to be a good one. They have a number of different specials for the happy hour, and you may want to check in advance to see if one suits your needs better than another. We had no problems finding seating and were pleased at the quality of the wine list. They have a very reasonably priced super Tuscan and a wonderful Barbasco. Both are a good start for any Italian dinner. The 3 cheese plate is an excellent starter--all 3 options are outstanding. The calamari appetizer is a great starter, but I had it as my entree--along with the side of risotto. My wife had the scampi, and it too was excellent. Many of you know my love of risotto and this was a very tasty one--with lots of cheese. My only "complaint" was that it was not as el dente as I normally like mine to be--it was a little too "mushy" for me, but the taste was great. The service was very good--timely and attentive and willing to answer questions correctly. Most important, they did not bring out the entrees until we were finished with the appetizer! We were amazed at how good a "neighborhood restaurant" could be at serving excellent food in a funky/fun atmosphere. The decor is "fun Italian" with emphasis on movie stars. The tables are nicely spaced and the sound level is good. We will ABSOLUTELY be back! The small size (perhaps 75 chairs) makes the restaurant feel very warm and comfortable. The crowd appears to be "regulars from the local neighborhoods" with a few like us from outside the area. If you like good Italian food and wine, I think you will like this one as much as we did. For what you get here, the prices are very reasonable--we have paid FAR MORE for FAR LESS in better known "big name" Italian restaurants. This is not a fine dining establishment, but the food/service is fine!

Eat with Gusto at Gusto's

An upscale Italian Restaurant and Wine bar.. food was very very good and service was exceptional (Server was Joe, heavyset individual) Joe must have been a film production assistant in a prior life for he beat you to the punch in anticipating your needs. He was sharp and intuitive and not once did I look or ask for him.. Rare to find such service today Food was excellent and well prepared..Chef-Boy-R-Dee does not cook here worth visit or two

Great food, great atmosphere

I really like this restaurant. It had a great atmosphere and since we were there at 6 o'clock we were able to participate in happy hour prices. 25% off a bottle of wine gave a really good value as well as two dollars off each appetizer. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the sausage on the anti-pasta plate and the bolognese was excellent.

Good food, nice atmosphere, excellent waitstaff

Recent visit on the recommendation of a friend. Bacon pizza with artichokes was very good. I prefer think crispy crust and that's what was served. Others had salmon, cipoinni, and shrimp. Everyone in our party was pleased with their meal. Deserts were very good as well. Waitstaff and who I'm certain was the owner were very friendly and attentive. Will certainly recommend it to others in the future.

Awesome Sunday Brunch!!

By Travalot2 |

We absolutely love eating here after church on Sundays. The Brunch buffet is excellent and all of the food is fresh and flavorful. They have salads, meat/cheese tray, eggs, bacon (best ever!) and last Sunday featured the most amazing slow roasted pork that was very tender. The tomato balsamic sauce enhanced the flavors. Desserts of tiramisu, chocolate torte cake, berries and cream are also included. Outside dining is wonderful when weather is nice. The staff is very personable and friendly. You can also get $3 bellinis & mimosas. Definitely has become one of our favorites. Limited parking.

Great for the family

We wanted a nice dinner that pleased our teenagers and the adults. Teenage son Happy with pasta bolognese, daughter enjoyed her Alfredo, husband ate a salad with tomato, cheese, and extra salmon on top. I had the salad with shrimp. We also had the Brussels sprouts and frites for appetizer and an interesting beet salad. The shrimp were a little over cooked, but the rest of the meal was great.

Yummy, but not cheap

The food is delicious. It's definitely a place to splurge. I had the shrimp scampi. It had more shallots than garlic and the sauce was pretty watery, but it was tasty. The panacotta was amazing!

Wonderful food and wine pairings

By marymcd |

A group of us went there for the first time last weekend, and lucked into a food/wine pairing prix fixe - it was wonderful! The meal could easily be made vegetarian (the lamb was an add-on), the wines were well suited to the courses being served, and the service was good for the most part (we waited for one entree to be served for quite a while, which is a kitchen issue; otherwise....) We definitely would go there again and hope to do so soon!

Wonderful hidden gem!

Gusto is located in a small little strip center on Burnet Road. If you're not in the neighborhood you might not know about it. But do try it. My most recent visit was for brunch on Easter and the brunch was wonderful. Just enough food and variety to satisfy, without being "over the top" like some of the big hotel brunches. Prime rib was delicious, several egg and veggie dishes were great too. I have had lunch here many times and one of the things I love about this place is they have reasonable portions. You don't leave feeling "stuffed" or obligated to take some of it home. One of the owners is almost always there and greets the customers. There is a nice patio although every time I've been the weather hasn't cooperated. On my last visit, Steven was our waiter and he was very attentive and helpful. I plan to frequent this restaurant!

Brilliant place to eat

Great food, great service and reasonable value. Food full of flavour, reasonable wine selection at good prices. Staff helpful and attentive. Recommend to anyone who wants a good Italian meal in Austin, portions just right not over the top if used to eating out in Europe.

An nice little upscale pizza and wine bar

The food was good but service was pretty slow. Good happy hour deals but had to have waitress adjust our bill to get the discount.

Hidden gem in Austin—-wow wow wow

By Justbrocky |

Wow. This place was amazing tonight. Had great drinks at the bar and we got sat. For starters we had the shrimp scampi , mussels , and charcuterie board. Shrimp scampi was unbelievable and just amazing. Mussels were fresh and tasty also. At our table we had 4 different dishes-all good. Great service also. Now the desserts—- had 3 different ones and they were all good. The butterscotch dessert was the winner followed by the tiramisu —- not your traditional One by far —but loved their version. The only feedback I would give is that “ sparkling , still, or tap water was not offered “. It was only tap water and the water was horrible. In my opinion — give people a choice and it can make the restaurant a few extra bucks when they do order the large still or sparkling. No stars off but only a suggestion. This place is the real deal ! I live in Georgetown and my dog groomer told me about this place.
