It was our first time there and we loved it! We ordered sparingly, but then started adding more and more- dishes and the wait staff was very patient with our party of 10! We will definitely be back!

Enjoyed it. Our waiter, Michael, was great. He took the time to explain everything in great detail. He recommended that as first timers we go with one of the preset dinners for 2. We went with the Meat Eater. Good decision that allowed is to get it all figured out and decide what kind of things to get next time. Overall very good meal. We will be going back. Will probably go with one of the all you can eat plans.

This is a "cook your own food" place with meats/veggies prepared for cooking. You can spice it up if you want. It is a chain, I believe stated in California and this is the only current Dallas area location. All items we have tried are excellent and the price is reasonable. Great place to try, you will visit again and again.

Good food and good service, what more can you ask for ! We had one of their all you can eat menus and we were not disappointed. The meats were excellent, very tasty, their garlic noodles were a 10! We'll be back.

This review is for the North Plano location. It’s a fantastic spot with top notch service. I’ve been to many of these across the USA and this one was absolutely on point. From start to finish— everything was flawless. Quick swap out of grill covers, fast presentation of orders, drink kept full. And the server (Larry) had the most impeccable manners.

Love Japanese food and was excited to try Gyu-Kaku today for lunch. My husband and I both ordered the two-meat BBQ lunch with different items so we could try various things. The food was fresh but the overall experience was hampered by some things that mainly fell under the waiter's area. First, the grill was turned on too high and we got "sparked" by flying embers. Then the waiter got our order mixed up and we wound up with two of the same chicken dish. The waiter also forgot our rice and didn't take time to explain the various sauces on the table. Finally, he charged us for an extra iced tea. The miso soup wasn't the best I've had, but hey, it's miso soup. The salad was good but, as you ate it with chopsticks, you wound up eating the top layer with the salad dressing and were then left with a plate of dry greens. Cooking your own meat was fine, but it was a bit awkward reaching around the various dishes and not getting burned. For two of the "small" lunches (two three-oz portions of meat) and two iced teas, our lunch was close to $35 before tip. There are some excellent places that serve more generous bento boxes for less money and you don't have to work nearly as hard. I think this is more an "experience" destination for dinner -- but only after they get their staff trained. I would be careful bringing small children here as the hot grill is in the middle of the table. They have ramen and other non-BBQ options, which I will try should I return.

We come here once every few months and we enjoy the selections, specially after they came out with the all AYCE option! The service is okay , it’s a hit or miss. There is also one up in north plano which is less crowded and less wait. I would ask them to go light on the sauces because it can be too overwhelming specially on thin cut meats.

The three of us ordered a set and it came with plenty of different cuts of meat, rice, and sides. The staff was also friendly and came by often to change our grills.

Love this place !, been in different location in different states and in japan, and quality of food is always ++++ Service... our waiter brought us first 2 hot japanese tea on glass cups.... he said they are waiting to wash the regular japanese cups... we just look at him and instantly he recognize that was not the class of service we were looking for at gyu kaku.. took care of that and brought us what sholud be. triple stars for Danny our waiter! The place was packed, of course main dishes with beef are the best ! and best meat quality. Just one thing... the "volcano appetizer" that was so hard to eat since is fried rice and more than crunchy.... but the Beef sukiyaki bibinbap... wow... totally suprised us... just little bit oily but good dish! Of course we will going back!

This is a chain store but first time trying in Dallas. There is a lunch all you can eat special which was a nice surprise and very reasonably priced. Don’t remember seeing this type of offer at the stores in CA. It is a 70 minutes limit with lots of option for both meat lover and vegetarian! Nice service, friendly staff, it was our server’s third day working there but he was able to understand what our needs are and make sure we are taken cared of. Definitely would visit again even without the all you can eat specials.

This franchise is very consistent with their meat quality and services . The Japanese bbq meat are high quality and we usual select the buffet style . You have an option of doing regular meals or buffet style and u select the meats listed on their menu. I lost track of How many times we have been here . Even the one in Boston also . I think it’s better than Korean bbq hands down . You will always come out of this place satisfied. Good place for a group or family dinner also.

The restaurant is very standard to other chains and have great dinner options. They also have unlimited and meals that can serve 2, 3 and even 4 people. The price is between $30-60 per person.

Don't go..... それは吸います Sore wa suimasu My wife and I just paid for 2 half beers and left. We were seated next to a table of 5 35-40 year old....men. Calling them men is a stretch. Every other word was a f-bomb...then another f-Bomb...then another f-Bomb. Then another guy talked in detail about his man part and what he had been doing with it. Then another volley of 5 or 6 f-bombs. Plus they f-bombed Trump...i don't love POTUS...but they threatened harm. Thru it all...NOBODY a part of GYU-Kaku seemed offended or told the people to tone it down or quit swearing. My wife is no prude...and I darn sure know how to swear with the best....but this was over the top...and not one person...waiter, server, mgmt of Guy-Kaku did anything. Translate the Japanese at the first of the post.... IT SUCKS. We left and went to a Dale Wamstat place (Texas)...a decent steak...and you don't have to worry about loudmouth jerk-offs. Gyu-Kaku the OUTHOUSE of Addison.

This is a great place to have lunch but a little pricy for whha you get. Service is excellent food is good just very $$$

I liked that they took our weekday online reservation in advance. The waiter explained the options to us and we enjoyed the dinner for 2. He was very attentive and stopped by often to change out the cooking trays and make sure we were doing well. We were very full from the portion sizes. The meats were very tender and flavorful. Loved the smores at the end too! Definitely will come here again.

This was a father/(adult) daughter dinner, which she had picked out and we tried. It looks like a reservation is pretty important--there were people grouped around the hostess station during our entire meal. We were seated reasonably quickly. The center of the table is dominated by a gas grill for cooking various items you might order. You can order a la carte or all-you-can-eat, but if one person orders AYCE, everybody else has to as well (or so they told us). It seemed more about the experience (grill-in-table, edgy decor, mix of dipping sauces, an aggressively friendly staff) than the actual food itself. We did order a la carte, a series of small plates, but after 10 or so, it's probably a wash between a la carte and AYCE (although there is a senior citizen's rate!). Our dishes ran between $4.50-$5 (cucumbers/small nuggets of fried Japanese chicken) and $11 (prime kalbi which we cooked on the grill). I do recommend starting with the garlic rice bibimbap ($6), which came out as a good sized portion in a hot bowl. We also liked the tuna volcano ($7) and the spicy addicting cucumber ($4.50, that's its name and it was nicely spicy). There was a kind of beef bacon, very fatty, but good once grilled. The four different cuts of beef we ordered and cooked started to run together, especially if you put them in the same dipping sauce. This is more theatre than food, but what we ate was okay, and the price for two, no drinks, was about $66 with tax and tip.

My wife and I went to Gyu-Kaku as one of our ‘dates’ at the recommendation of our daughter. What a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The real draw is the do-it-yourself grill built into the tables. Not only do you get to ensure the food is cooked as you wish, but it forms a great means for just relaxing with friends and family. Definitely worth the visit!

I’ve been to other branches of this Japanese BBQ chain. It’s a great way to indulge a variety of tastes and flavors in small plate fashion. Parking was tight with all the other eateries clustered here. There was zero wait for a solo diner — very much appreciated. Opted for the lowest tier all you can eat. So long as you understand the rules of engagement and abide by them — you’ll be fine. Basically order from a menu of items and eat what is on the table within 90 minutes. No doggie bags and you’re charged for any food left over uneaten. I worked my way through all the meat dishes except the calamari and chicken options. All were good quality and cooked up quick. The trio of sauces allow for a variety of tastes. The garlic spinach was divine. I also enjoyed the spicy cabbage salad. Two bowls wasn’t enough. I consider this a good value if you come hungry and eat a fair amount. It’s as much about the experience as the food.
Good Japanese food and service
Great experience. Party of four and ordered the Samurai. Ample for us all. Miso, salad, assorted BBQ items, and to top it off, S’mores.
