Awesome find in Miami

By cantfindaname10 |

Our restaurant recommended this place, we've been to Gyu Kaku in Beijing and NY, so we're familiar with this restaurant, but we never had such cheap drinks and food. We went around 1pm, and it was happy hour, we got 99c beers, and $14 dollar set meals. Everything was delicious. We also ordered the volcano rolls, it was not bad, too much rice, but tasty. The cucumber salad was just ok, could be more vinegary, but I still finished it. Ramen and chicken wings were just so so. But I would definitely come back again during happy hour. This place was kid friendly too, our waitress was super sweet with our 3yr old.

A great experience

Went last night with friends, the place is nicely decorated, service was good and the food delicious! We took the package for 4, there was enough food and we were very satisfied! The deserts as well we amazing! Would definitely come back when we are in town!

Best yakiniku place in miami

By Lissette |

I love coming to this place for special occations, the food is so fresh and good. Compared to other places, the price is fair. Definately going back everytime I can.

Just Delicious!

By Diana M |

Excellent food. We took the house combo and we couldn't be happier. It says feeds 2 but we had food left for another 2. Danica was great.

Good service, good food

Nice find

We were staying in the downtown Miami area and saw this place within walking distance from our hotel and thought we would try it. The plastic menus are always a turn off for me but we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered a bunch of stuff to share. The cooking your own food is a fun change and everything was very tasty. Give it a try !

So impressed!

By Ambassador612570 |

The food and lychee martini was EXCELLENT!!!! Enjoyed the option of cooking dinner over a flame. Great experience! Service was less than ideal for a Thursday night. Garlic noodles shown in picture were outstanding!

Good concept and food good prices

This is a Japanese/ Korean BBQ and it is very good for lunchtime. Varied menu very good grilled seafood and reasonable prices for being in Miami

Great Food

By NinaRo724 |

The food was great and the prices were perfect! I ordered the flank steak to BBQ and it was very good...tasty! We also had the spicy tuna volcano, the pork gyoza dumplings both very good. The tuna tataki and the BBQ pork tacos were just ok. We ordered the Sukiyaki Bibimbap and the garlic noodles and they were good as well. The s'mores for dessert is a cute idea!

This was such a good place to go for some meat. This green tea crepe was all my husband heard me talking about for hours afterwards.

Great experience!

By Nicolas R |

Great food, great waiters, great quality! Very good surprise in Miami. We came by chance and have been convinced. Our 2 teenagers lives it also.

Great food, fun but expensive

By Hartford2012 |

A party of 7 (three kids ages 9 to 15), we ordered the meat lovers package (serves 6). It was a LOT of meat for us. The cuts were outstanding and the service was excellent. We were attended to by several wait staff and there was plenty to eat. The kids enjoyed the novelty of it - including the desserts. We chose this as the least expensive way to go to feed a lot of people, given that the portions if you ordered a la carte seemed small and would have added up. It would be great if a combo package were available for a larger party that included less beef and more chicken and vegetables. Nonetheless, it was a great experience and the food was very good, if not great. The wait staff was not only attentive, they seemed genuinely caring about our experience.

Bad Service.

By Nora1954 |

We ate at Gyu-Kaku many times, even in HongKong, and we were always satisfied. We were there the second day of their opening in Miami, and in spite of the chaos of the beginning, we still were happy. Unfortunately, yesterday, we couldnt say the same. Our food came late, compared to the other tables, who arrived later to the restaurant and were served the same food that we had ordered, before of us. Even one of the dishes didn't come at all. When we complained the server blamed the kitchen when in reality that wasn't the case, since, as I said before, other tables were being served before. I am sorry the service declined so much.

I love this place..

By Trek765154 |

This is the only restaurant that I’m not afraid of eating in because the servers make sure everything is I eat is gluten dairy and eggs free. Due to me having celiac is has become difficult to enjoy a meal outside of my house. Sebastian is my server most of the time if Endri is not here, they are both caring and very helpful.

So funny to go with the family

By Maria Silvia F |

My teenager son loved it! All you can eat and you must grill the meat in front of you. We had to go there twice an he said that he could eat there everyday. During the lunch they a have a "two choice or three choice meat", instead of the "all you can eat" in a very good price. Is really so interesting, the meats are so good, and the other foods are good also (rice, salad, misoshiro). We ate a lot!

Great Experience

By pouppa |

My family and I totally enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. The concept of cooking our food on a grill was just amazing and entertaining. Our waiter Rodolfo was very helpful and he provided us great service! The s'mores dessert was decadent. We would definitely go back especially during happy hour!

Great food.

By Chamrone k |

Great Japanese food. The BBQ is excellent since you get to cool it to your preference. The happy hour menu gives you a lot of choices. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to try Japanese bbq. Very similar to Korean BBQ.

All you can eat bbq

By ana carolina f |

Food was good, unfortunately I can't say the same about the service. We arrived before the time of our reservation and were asked to wait at the bar, which is fair, but while we waited, we noticed 5 empty tables for over 15min while a lot of people waited. The only thing that kept us from living was the fact that we ordered food at the bar, and it's actually cheaper (fire rolls are $9 at the table and $5 at the bar). Bar and table bills are paid separately. When we finally set at our table, we ordered the all you can eat menu ($35), and the food was pretty good. Loooved the aged beef (bistro meat), but didn't like the toro (bacony meat). They should offer more options of vegetable. Smores for dessert was a great idea!

They prepare it, you grill it

By Eddie Travels |

QUICKIE REVIEW They prepare it, you grill it. If that is not for you, skip this one. FOOD Usually I breakdown what I had but this is pretty straightforward here. You pick what you want then grill it. I will say my favorite meat to eat is toro beef aka toro bacon (I call it this as it resembles bacon when grilling it). If you are able to grill it so that it is ever so lightly blackened, you are in for a treat. Add steam rice and you have a meal. Food is good here. PARKING Street parking and parking garages is what you have going on here. Pick your poison. THE GRILL This has to be my biggest gripe with Gyu-Kaku, getting a good grill (if this wasn't a thing easily 4-stars). Since you are cooking your own food, getting a good grill is crucial. You would think all grills are created the same at a place where grilling is the center of everything. Not so. Our grill had low heat even though it was on high. As you can imagine, you can get a tad bit frustrated when things that should cook in less than three minutes takes around ten. This obviously becomes more of a problem with more food and people at your table. To add to this, management has to know this is a problem. I say this because when we were seated, the first thing our waiter did was remove golden bezel around the grill to help with the heat issue. Then he asked us what we wanted (sigh). I wrote an email to Gyu-Kaku a week ago regarding this for the locations I been to with this. If they ever respond, I will update my post. PRICE Two things to help yourself here: 1. Never order their set course menu. 2. Always go during happy hour (happy hour times are in the pics). Drinks are literally half their normal cost and most food is roughly 25% off. TIP If you have a grill with low heat, you can remove the golden bezel ring to help. Also, if you ordered anything fatty, cook that first. The fat drips into it will cause flare-ups, which cause more fat to drip and you get a decent fire going. Have your other meats on there and enjoy the steady flame while you can.

Lunch visit

By Cre8tiv16 |

Close to Hampton Inn and Suites Brikell, walkable. Entered for lunch and it was somewhat busy, weekday. Hostess not overtly friendly and seemed taken aback that we did not have a reservation. Taken to table immediately, regardless. Our waitress was Very good. First visit but familiar with this type of self cooking ..meal. Lunch specials or a la carte. Our group ordered from both. The food was all very tasty, served promptly and was nice portion sizes as well. Priced typical for a la carte with varied lunch specials, if you choose from that menu. We all enjoyed our meals and would return. Enjoy.

Oriental style buffet.

By Peritomoreno |

Buffet with grills in the middle of the table. The restaurant is located in Brickel, comfortable and spacious although a little left, lacks a good face wash. You have three menu options or à la carte. The average ticket is $50, plus tip and tax. Food is an assortment of meats with different dressings. The cuts are perhaps too thin and end up burning on the grill, which is difficult to catch the temperature point. I would rec9emd it from experience but nothing more.

Mediocre Japanese restaurant

By Bob C |

Decided to try this restaurant based on a recommendation of a local, and it’s very close to hotel that I’m staying at. The sign says it’s Japanese Barbecue place, so I was expecting a teppanyaki or Yakitori restaurant. I lived and worked in Japan for several years so a little picky about Japanese cuisine. The space was big with booths having a grill on the table. The menu is large, and you can select the meat and vegetables that you want to grill, Galbi, short ribs, pork belly.. it reminded me more of a korean BBQ place than Japanese. The beef was pretty good, and so was the vegetables and kimchi. They had a good selection of beers, wine, sake, soju The waiter was efficient , the prices reasonable for the Brickell neighborhood. They do have happy hour specials tha end at about 6pm I think. Glad I tried it , but I wouldn’t consider it an authentic aJapanese place and likely won’t repeat.

Korean BBQ who??

By ItsYourBoyLeo |

Ok this place is way better than Korean BBQ. More affordable and more selection in Meats and other items you wanna eat. $35 or 45 for AYCE package. I wish I had 2 stomachs.

Great experience very reasonable

By Paul G |

Super atmosphere very relaxed but quality food and at a very reasonable price for this area. A good fun way to eat!

Good place to visit on your way through Brickell

By Edgar V |

Very good restaurant. Very good service and quality of food very good too. The experience of cooking, oneself, food with the assistance of the attendant is interesting. Each person can give the food to be eaten the touch they like. We were six people and bought dis paquwtes from 3 people. The amount of comfort was more than enough.

Good Janpanese food with a touch of Korean

By Robert A |

I ate dinner there one night. I had the Ramen soup with Korean style beef and kimchi. The service was kind of slow, but they were packed with folks waiting for a table. I ate at the bar where they only allow you to eat certain dishes. Over all the my meal was very tasty, and good.

Bbq

By scooby1212 |

I was looking for bbq food. We ran into this restaurant via internet. The whol concept is very nice. Cook your own meat on the table bbq it is fresh and juicy and also the fried rice and veggies are good. Try the smoors as a dessert that is just a surprise.

AMAZING !!!

By Andres Aguerrevere |

Food is GREATTT. Ambience and decorations are great. The plan it's different from a regular restaurant visit. Very good prices as well. Totally recommended!

Okay, seriously!!!

By Mel_Medd |

This place is tooooo good! I get excited just talking about it. The food is so delicious. I loved the experience as well. It seemed that people were not on their phones as much because you're so busy paying attention to your food. That is definitely a plus +. Happy Hour is the best time to go because most of the items are $1 - $2 off. Trust me, it saves you some money. The food is affordable and super tasty. They recommend 2-3 meats per person. I ordered the Spicy Tuna, a miso soup, 3 meats, and their garlic fried rice. I thought their meats were so little (3-3.5 oz) but by the time I finished I was sooo stuffed I couldn't even make it to dessert. I did share my plates with my boyfriend who ordered another 2 meats. Of course, the next day I went back for Happy Hour and saved some room for the Green Tea cake and S'mores... Delish! Great vibe, good music, very lively during the day and all through the night. If you don't make a reservation expect to wait AT LEAST 15 minutes. Service was great, chefs are amazing, interior design is clean and attractive. Very interactive dinner. Hint: SUNDAY IS HAPPY HOUR ALL DAY :)

Unique BBQ experience in the heart of Miami

By Pedro Mejia Bernal |

It is a very nice experience overall, would definitely come back, would definitely recommend, it is very affordable because the quantity of the food and quality are super good. It is great for any celebration, highly recommend you to reserve before hand. The place could be a little more cleaner. Staff is overall very nice and welcoming.

good idea

By marcus w |

Quite and interesting thing a Japanese do it yourself BBQ. Haven't come across one before and not for want of eating in lots of cities. The place was bustling on a Friday . night so obviously popular. But its often the little things that annoy. In this case having a drink at the bar waiting for a table was pained by having to pay for that before we went to the table. And its so simple to move it to the dining tab surely!! The waitress was really helpful with the order and the food - being raw - came promptly. The waitress was also helpful in managing the heat of the BBQ grill in the middle of the table. The meats/fish/shellfish came in their own sauces and there were three in bottles on the table to add. They all came across as slightly sweet - fine if that's what you like. The tenderloin was tough and the sushi grade tuna mushy - which speaks to freezing. I did not have the sense of good quality fresh ingredients. So it was interesting and quite fun - but I doubt I would do it again at this chain.

Never disappoints!

By DaniLu |

Been to Gyu Kaku over 20 times, always great and consistent quality of food and service. Favorites: yaki shabu, kobe and bibimbap. Also, they have great happy hour offers as alcohol drinks for half the price.

Average

By akhemani |

Average and a regular barbecue Good server Green tea crepes special was amazing Seasonings ok!!!! Ok choice Gyu-Kaku Average

Amazing food

By sshapleigh |

Cool concept and everything that hit the grill was awesome, from bacon wrapped to much more, all the beef was phenomenal

Great BBQ

By Liang |

This is a must go restaurant in Miami downtown. The best Japanese BBQ. Expect long wait if walk in. The only cons is the receptionist is not professionally trained. She doesn’t know how to answer basic questions or handle so many customers waiting at front. All other staff are really nice.

Garlic Noodles were good

By keithjones31216 |

I wasn’t sure when we sat down, but was pleasantly surprised. We went for lunch so I did the garlic noodles with ground chicken. The dish was decent sized for lunch and was very flavorful. I would recommend this for lunch.

Excellent

By MyTesla |

We had a wonderful time. The restaurant was very busy but we got a nice table by the window. The server was Fernando and he was the best server we had for a while. He checked on us often and did not seem bothered to explain every step of the "cook it, eat it" concept. We truly had an amazing night.

Meat lover course

By DublinKH |

My daughter and I ordered “meat lover” course for $60. Soup, salad, edamame, chicken karaage, 6 different beef and Samoa. It was plenty for us and great deal. On Sundays, happy hour all day and drinks are half off!

Mother’s Day visit

By Peter S |

Good tasting food but I don’t get the concept of cooking your food and damn it the place is expensive. I don’t see myself coming back here.

Excellent dining experience

By gerri g |

Amazing dining experiences with excellent service and a variety of different options to choose from. The quality of food was very good. The servers brought each different dish at just the right time to prepare. Kid friendly and a wonderful dining experience.

Great Find

By elmuhrz |

Love the food here! if you order right its not pricey and happy hour is great! The Sukiyaki is sooooooo good, pair that with some meat and a mushroom medley and you've got a winner!

Lovely place

By Michelle C |

Food is awesome, staff is great, the happy hour special is on point. I loved everything about this place. :)

Horrible service and management

By Randy |

Terrible service. They wanted to seat 6 people at a table for 4. His manager is extremely unprofessional and not interested in the comfort of the diners. It's a pity they're so badly organized and banjo so badly administered

Best atmosphere!

By c17rob |

Gyu-Kaku is a great place to go with friends or family to really enjoy the table BBQ experience. Everything we had was outstanding including pork belly, flank steak and the beef rib. Good beer selections and wonderful staff make this an excellent choice for a fun and tasty night out. 😊

Best Japanese Barbecue in Miami

By waxlady |

I had dinner last night with a friend at Gyu-Kaku. I was a bit hesitant because I've not had a decent Japanese meal in Miami. We ordered 3 meats to barbecue, Filet, Short Ribs & Hanger Steak. As an appetizer we had the steamed shrimp dumplings with garlic chili thai sauce which were AWESOME. For our rice we ordered the rice Sukiyaki Bibimbap our veggie was asparagus and for dessert we ordered the Smores, since it was my friends first. The food was really great, I would go with the short ribs and Hanger Steak, the Filet was great as well, but cut a bit thicker. I've been to Korea and eat quite a bit in Korea Town in NYC, so again I was comparing to my past experiences. The difference between Gyu-Kaku barbecue and Korean Barbecue is that the meat is a thicker cut and has more seasoned. Also, because the portions are a bit smaller, but priced appropriately, that meant that you could try a variety of cuts. Our server Llubitza by the way was awesome. She was right on with her suggestions, especially since we've not dined in their restaurant before. I would definitely go here again. The restaurant can accommodate large and small parties. You didn't feel crowed in the space at all which I really enjoyed. They also have a nice size bar. Next time I go I will probably make it during their Happy Hour times which are Sunday all day, M-S Lunch 11:30-7PM, Dinner M-Thurs-9:30-11 and Friday 10:30-12 AM. Go there, bring a bunch of people, share your food and enjoy a wonderful dining experience.

Casual, deferent and good

By W7698XNtt |

The meal was good, buy meet no the first quality, nice atmosphere and a different experience of cooking meal. Service very good I will recommend it.

Never again

By Fabien V |

We made a reservation for my friend birthday and still had to wait for over 30mn. We decided to have a drink while waiting and they refused my ID because it's a French one. Great way to start the evening. The food is OK but the service is really average even though it's quite a pricey place.

This probably the worst ramen

By Avikoo |

This is probably the worst ramen I ever ate correction I can’t call that a ramen the broth smells like something that came from an instant soup from the nearest supermarket the noodles was over cook Italian vermicelli I ordered an avocado salad surprisingly there was no avocados hope you got the picture don’t go there

Nice Japanese Korean food in Miami

By Winfried4 |

We have been there twice. Both times very good food and reasonable price particular at lunchtime. However lunch time menu quality is less good.

Cool place

By Joey01dee |

We sat at the wooden communal table . It was cool with a rustic feel to it . The food was very good . I'm just disappointed that they didn't have the fish that I ordered. Service was very good too. Over all a great dinner . We will be back .

This place was awesome!

By Adair A |

I mean food was delicious! We ordered the $55 for two meal. First they brought soup, then salad, then spring rolls, then fried chicken, then 6 platters with different cut of beef, after that we got smores. Plenty of food! Oh lord I couldn't move after we were done eating. Staff was attentive and friendly! Love it!

Amazing

By mocheerchick155@yahoo.com |

This place is my new favorite place. This scenery is so romantic. upscale, refreshing, and trendy. Everything i have tried here is really amazing. The best place about this place are the s'moors for dessert. My only complaint is there is only valet parking.

Disappointing food but ameniable service

By Danne T |

Upon entry we had to wait 3-4 minutes before we were seated, even though we had reserved a table. The locale was very loud and bad sound dampened and unjapanese, with open spaces between the tables that were already tightly packed. On top of that the music volume was high and the choice of music was really ill fitting. The service was alright and that's why the review still gets 2 stars, but the waitress we received did not have much information on Japanese cuisine. The breaking point for us was the chicken karaage (fried chicken), which was small irregular slices of chicken, fried until the meat was dry and almost without taste. The other pieces of meat were also poorly cut and irregular, and one piece of meat was so sinewy it was inedible. All in all, too expensive for the money, but if you've never had an inside bbq you might not be completely disappointed.

love this place

By Cyril M. |

This place is Awesome. Everything is delicious!!!! And it is super fun because you cook your own food. We asked for the Premium GYU KAKU. It supposed to be for two but it works fine for 3 is a lot of food. Everything was perfect!!!!! Strongly recommend it!!!

Kick back, new experience, good ambiance

By Jaime L |

Cook your own meal type of restaurant. I was looking for something not too upscale because I simply hate dressing up to go eat. Showed up, friendly staff (waiter would not shut up though....) Got good tips on what to order. Prices for Miami were very affordable and the food definitely delivered. I ordered the short ribs and the scallops with bacon. Only pointer here: Stick to the meats, way easier to cook by yourself. Flavor and freshness was great. The place looked sleek and clean, good vibe with the music. The menu recommends for you to get a bunch of food - - orders are BIGGER than you would think. Don't rush into it, order as you please and try different things! I would certainly go back to get the rest of the menu I did not try.

Good and fun food

By Wolfgangamadeusmarco |

A place to experience the pleasure of Kobe beef and the fun of eating it in the Yakiniku way which some give credit to the Koreans. Must mention the good service this place provides too.

Disappointed - Americanized flavor

By Akiko R |

We're excited to try this restaurant because it's a popular Japanese chain and is always highly rated but we're totally disappointed. Yakiniku is a great way to enjoy the different flavor/texture of various parts of meats - well that's how it is in Japan. However, this place uses too much of strong sauce to marinade the meats (literally soaked) and that destroys the flavor of meats. Also the quality of meats is not that good. The only one that's acceptable was the beef tongue since it's simply seasoned with a little salt. I'd say the service was good though - the server asked very often if we want the grill be changed.

Great to have a different type of dinner

By Joselyn Chanes de Avila |

If you haven't had a Korean style meal yet, this is the place! The staff is friendly and willing to explain you the concept and different combo options. Great for a date or family occasions and also healthy since it is mainly lean grilled meat and vegetables

Good Korean BBQ restaurant

By WHMK |

They call this a Japanese BBQ restaurant but it is really very similar to other Korean BBQs. We ordered a lunch for 6 package with additional vegetables and pork belly. It was plentiful food for seven. The meats all came pre-marinated with tasty sauces although diners could add more sauces at the table. We cooked the food on two hot grillsat our table.

Tasty but too much work

By Machet |

I will be e short and sweet on this one . Food has nice taste (specially fired rice) , cuts of beef are quality but I don't enjoy working or cooking my own food at restaurants. Old school but when I go out just wan t be served not have to cook anything. If you are of different mind set will probably enjoy this place .

Great happy hour

By Z1242NInicolel |

Had a great dinner with the family. This place is always a hit. Happy hour prices and service are excellent. The Toro beef to die for! Only complaint the seating a little tight for those with long legs. Go and enjoy!

One of my new favs

By Anaddicted |

Loved it. Everything from the locale, staff, food - incredible. Went with some friends and one was late so we ordered appetizers while we waited. It was so good we ordered more when she arrived. Had the fried chicken and cheese stuffed something. OMG. I ate so much. The skirt steak was better than the sirloin. The mushrooms were delicious. The dessert could've prob been better but I still enjoyed it.

Excellent food

By fabionishi |

Excellent food with typical Japanese barbecue. The ready-made menu is very well served. All very good. Great service.

Lunch at the Bar

By Michael Schaffer |

It's an incredible place, very good vibes. I went to have lunch by myself so i decided to sit at the bar. Albany was very friendly, she explained me the menu and the happy hour items. I ordered a couple of appetizers, garlic edamame, chili dumplings and spicy tuna volcano was awesome. Then i took a lychee martini, it was amazing, she did the best. Then i got avocado salad, Albany recommended me the beef sukiyaki, i loved it! I definitely come back again.

Best Korean Style BBQ in Miami - Good plan

By carlosdieppa |

Gyu-Kaku was a great surprise for lunch in Brickell it is a Japanese restaurant that does the Korean Style cook everything in your table. Prices are good for both lunch and dinner menu. Go only if you have some time as not to rush the experience.

tasty

By Elina K |

Got in without a reservation on sat night.nice atmosphere.the meats were excellent.loved the lychee drink.great value for your money.

interesting experience

By ndalbani |

nice atmosphere, attentive waiters, the plates are really small so you need t order several plates to be full having said that you will see that the price adds up quickly so i believe it is not fairly priced...i will keep this place for special occasions and not for regular outings

Prepare to eat like there is no tomorrow!

By Mafer |

The food is simply fantastic! I just can't describe how tasteful it is. The concept of grilling your own food and share with family/friends is also different and fun! At this specific location, the service can be improved a bit more. We showed up about 20 min prior to our reservation time (it was mother's day), and the hostess told us to wait in a very despective way. I have been to another location of this restaurant in Canada, and not only the food is amazing but also the service. Sadly, this location did not meet my expectations in terms of treatment to the customer. i would go back for the food, but I would not be as generous tipping.

Too salty!!

By HAHirose |

The sauces accompanying the meat were not authentic. Iv never has basil marinated meat in any Japanese cuisine. The food was in general very salty we drank over a liter of water each that night. The tare sauce was the best. Miso soup, salad were decent. They charge for green tea per cup!! I went there looking for authentic Japanese food, but this is mostly rearranged for the American palette. My husband enjoyed the s'mores:)

Be ready to cook

By plonky74 |

Came here for a business lunch. Plates are small so order accordingly. Had a beef rice which was delicious. As well as the steamed dumpling. To cook we had the shrimp, beef and teriyaki chicken. They were all delicious.

Very interesting but way expensive

By ecb47 |

A concept similar to Le Fondue but with asian food. Very little portions of beef 3 oz per order. Rice was delicious and so the appetizers. Found it very expensive for amount served. Wecwhere 3 people ordered a Kobe special plus three meats additional, 3 beers and had a groupon of $30 deducted cost was $150.00 😳

Fun Experience

By Mikal C |

This restaurant belongs to a chain and is fairly typical for a Japanese BBQ establishment. That being said, the food quality is always excellent and the prices during happy hour are an amazing deal. My only complaint would be about the employees. I've been here several times and the staff are always helpful but seem hurried, almost as if it's a bother to ask them for something. Not sure if that's just part of the experience or if I go on busy days.

Just for the Experience Only!

By Boris E |

We had the chance to visit Gyu-Kaku in Brickell recently and wanted to do it just for the experience of cooking our own food and experience again something similar when I lived in Japan many years ago. The holiday special for two around $75 provided a series of plates and options to enjoy and can be considered substantial in some ways. I would say that the experience is what makes it worth trying, but it may not be worth the amount paid. One thing that kind of annoyed me in this location was the continuous loud repetition of Irasshaimase!” (いらっしゃいませ!). I know it means welcome, but it is loud, repeated constantly even when you are already seating in your chair, and does not seem authentic from the workers that are there. In addition, the techno music did not compliment the restaurant and would suggest traditional Japanese music that would enhance the overall experience. Service sometimes can be quite slow and informal as well. Overall, it was worth trying out but not sure that I would come back.

Unusual cook your own dinner

By Tony L |

They provide a grill right on the table, present the customers with the meat ordered and the customers cook their own. The food was very tasty. Beware of the soup they serve you, it is extremely hot ( temperature ) !

Great new place in Pinecrest

By AnaZad |

Very pleased with this nice BBQ Japanese restaurant... of course if you don't mind to cook when you go out. They offer a wide variety of dishes for every taste. Nice friendly service. Dress with a light blouse since it gets warm with the furnaces.

You cook the food yourself!

By Oliver Tuttle |

The food was amazing and it was a one of a kind experience! You actually cook the food yourself! Initially it seemed daunting and I was nervous but it was easy: just flip the food a few times, nothing too complicated; it was actually fun! The fried rice was the star, absolutely delicious and tasty! The place is pretty big--although it doesn't look like it--so everything was spaced out, I felt comfortable being there. As far as our main dish, we ordered the "Chef's Favorite," which came with a lot of food! Perfect to split between 2 people. Can't wait to go back!

Great food

By Ross M |

Honestly the best food I ate in Miami, great place and so authentic. Would definitely recommend to friends - great value for money. Pedro was a top server and helped us throughout the process.

Yum!

By Lanettecueto |

Great food. If you come for happy hour the prices are great. Pineapple patron martini delish. We ate a ton and had 6 martini's and it was less than 100 bucks.

Good Food, Regular attention

That's a lot of food even if it seems like not enough. I ordered a valentine's menu and It was excellent. The service was mediocre because the waiters are distracted by each other.

Happily Surprised

By ticarotravels |

We came here last week for dinner and to use a Groupon we had completely forgot about. When you look at the menu online, it's easy to get disinterested by their food photos. The photos aren't the best looking and somewhat depict a hole in the wall spot. WRONG! The restaurant has a great modern vibe and is well structured (meaning you're not sitting on top of your neighbors!). The service was great, and the food we tried was excellent. The short rib was a fave, as well as their sauces. We will be coming back here as this is a great spot to come on a date or with friends. Everyone can order and cook their own food to their liking, and can't really complain about it! The prices are also great as well as their happy hours.

Absolutely wonderful time

Gyu-kaku is a very popular yakiniku chain in Japan. I was on a business trip to Miami with my Japanese coworkers and one of them discovered there was a Gyu-kaku in Miami and wanted to go. Yakiniku is one of the types of meals that my coworkers insist on getting when they go back to visit Japan because it's relatively rare in the US. Anyway. The food was absolutely delicious, I think they had a nice mix of some more traditional Japanese style things, and a few more Americanized things. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful, as were the rest of the staff. In terms of cost, it can get a bit expensive but we ended up spending $135 for the three of us and we went a bit overboard. I couldn't finish all my food and that also included a few glasses of wine, sake, and beer. If you cut out the alcohol, don't go overboard with what you're ordering, and make it during Happy Hour I think you can manage to do it for the same as any other nice restaurant. We came in at the tail end of Happy Hour so we didn't really get the discount. They should open some in the Columbus and Detroit area, I think they'd get quite a bit of business from the Japanese people in those areas.

Sorry not my thing

By Acrespo79 |

I visited this resteraunt with the wife and kids. The place is nice and the bar was full when I visited. The concept of the resteraunt is you cook your own meal it was something different. The appetizers we ordered were great now when it came to the meats I'm a big eater and this is not the place for that if not you'll break the bank. The servings are small so I orderd and ordered some more. The desert was good it was smores cook on your own over a fire. The service here wasn't good and they don't have much to do. I don't know if it's me but my kids loved the place but my wife and I didn't and my pockets either.

Pick Your table carefully

By Cyril M. |

Love gyu Kaku. I used to live near by so it was my to go restaurant every week. They have excellent lunch options, and in general everything is delicious!!!!! Very fun and nice place to share with friends and family. Yesterday I had an incident that it bothered me a lot. We made a reservation 3 days before the dinner time with my grandma and family and we were seated in a table that was malfunctioning. (Just in case you don't know this is the type of restaurant that you have a flame in front of you and you cook your own food ) we know the place as I said I have been there probably 50 times... and the waitress said after us being seated and trying to cook our food that the table had problems, so cooking will be a bit slow, after waiting 10 min to cook some shrimps they were not even hot. So we decided to call the waitress and ask her to change our table, she said that all the other tables were reserved 😂😂😂. What we actually did 3 days ago so we had the right to be seated in a normal working table. So we had to be a bit of a pain for then to you change us to another table that by surprise was also not properly working so we were seated finally in a good one after 25-30 min of being in the restaurant 😒. Very disappointed because they should tell you if something is wrong with your table before being seated and give you the choose of take it or just wait for a normal working one, or even better don't use it at all.... lucky us I knew the place and knew sometwas wrong, . If it would have been our first time we will still be there trying to cook those shimos 😂😂😂 and it is already 9 am the next day 😂😂😂 My advice: when you get there ask if the flame in the table is normal or very poor, if they tell you is a bit slow, you are in your right to be seated in a good one, that's why you pay for, don't let them get there way and have you in a. Crapy table, will take you forever go cook. Despite that, food is delicious and services is nice and fast. Still love the place, just I'm more careful now of where they seat me.

So Good!!!!

I went here this past weekend and this place was such a cool experience. I really enjoyed the food and drinks. Cooking at your own table is pretty cool and we both enjoyed ourselves. We will def come back.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Get the Bistro Hanger steak!

By Peter M |

This place is great. Can't say enough good things about. We were in Miami for 5 nights. Went to Guy-Kaku the first night after arriving from the airport at 10pm, and man did we stubble on to something wonderful. We went back there two nights later because I couldn't get the Bistro Hanger steak off my mind. Would have return a third time, but my wife (who also loved the place) said we should probably try different things. I couldn't believe the Happy Hour specials. I mean, $0.99 for a full draft of Kirin, $1.99 for Shocktop! Ridiculous. They call it Happy Hour, but the poster said "Happy Hour all day, every day for the month of November." I regret not going back that third time! Real cool atmosphere, too.

Great Japanese BBQ in Brickell

By parkerpr |

My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner here, it made us feel like we were back in Tokyo. The meat was fresh and flavorful. The other accompaniments were outstanding. What stood out was the variety, value, and service. The waitstaff and manager were helpful, friendly, and efficient. It was an outstanding evening. Bryan was a great server and helped made our evening memorable. Try the shochu, a wonderful Japanese liquor that pairs well with the food. Will definitely try their lunch!

Excellent Service

Great service from all the staff. The food is superb.... Strongly recommend the filet mignon with mushroom medley and the harami miso skirt steak. Congrats.

A little tongue, a little heat for a spicy Friday nite

By Marca P |

KW came to town for my b'day. I said I'd cook dinner for him, I just didn't tell him, he was taking me out to do so. We had a great meal of scallops and tongue!!!! It was very good, so fresh and the scallops were some of the sweetest I've had. Cooking at your own table makes for a nice change and at your own relaxed pace.

Great place, good food!

By Dale G |

Love the place, food is awesome and service is fast, a bit pricey but is acceptable, bbq grill though has a potential to burn tour finger since i think table is too small especially if you order the family meal. over all im satisfied

Never Again There

By kreamfisher |

Horrible. I would have given it a ZERO if that was an option. The table cooker did not work. Barely any flame. We brought the issue up to our server, Natalie, several times. She kept telling us it was working fine. Eventhough she kept trying to get it to work, too. Did not move us to another table where it was clear the burner was working. Obviously the burner was not we sat there for almost 2 hours and never cooked all the food. We finally asked her to talk to her boss about issue and maybe discount the meal a little. She said ok and brought us the full price bill with her 18% tip on it. Three of us for dinner and a couple of drinks $315. Never again

Average Barbecue

By akhemani |

The restaurant was pretty average. The service was not the best and Rodolpho our server forgot many items. The two things I would recommend on the menu is the Green Tea crepe and the garlic rice!

Delicious food, cheap happy hour, long wait

By HotelRinconTarasco |

The positive: - Food is fresh and delicious - Waiters go out of there way to explain the different cuts and how to prepare them - Female bartenders make sure you're taken care of - Happy hour is cheap for Miami - Tons of food promos to choose from The negative: - Long wait, especially during the weekend for dinner - Food promo included dessert (smores) but had to ask several times for it - Restaurant still had several tables but the waiters were busy sweeping, cleaning tables, taking out trash etc...before closing time. Overall I would go back, just recommend showing up with a ton of patience and leaving at least 30 minutes before closing time.

Great place to eat

By PaK90 |

Went for lunch, was given a table immediately. Food was good and we were served quickly. Did not order food that needed to be cooked with their grill in the middle of the table. I would definitely return.

My husband and I first ate at a Gyu-Kaku in NYC. We were thrilled to find one in Miami. We loved the meat lovers course. The server was very attentive and friendly. May come back for the all you can eat.

Great but expensive

By TTheresienfeld |

We had a great BBQ at Gyu Kaku in Downtown Miami, but it is also quiet expensive. The servers were friendly and the food quality was excellent. Look for the Happy Hour ;-)

Went for Ramen - LOVED IT

By Chezniko |

Arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, still they sat us with no problem. We were 3. Ordered two spice Ramen soup, Gyu Kaku Salad, fried rice and 3 pieces of steak to grill. All for 60 USD. The ramen soup was out of this world, excellent! I am still thinking about it. The grilling meat I suggest not choosing any marinated, it is just too much flavor. We prefered the ones not marinated. The experience as a whole is interesting. Would definitely recommend it, especially for Ramen.

Poor poor poor service!!

By Nickiiiiiii |

First!! We order cocktails and server brought 2 and said they still looking for ingredients for another drink... 15 mins later one of floor manager came and said they dnt have thouse shoju which is fine for us... (After 15min???) ok we try to understand, may be their Liqour storage is not close to the bar, and its Sunday just Opening , so they dnt have time to do 86 lists yet!!! Secondly, we ordered set for 4 on the menu happy hour (we are party of 3) i did specifically ask her (server)what acctually come with those set? She said... All of those me (pointed on menu) includesd rice if i wanna upgrade to garlic rice it $2-3 which find for us, (thats all she said) so i even ask her , did any vegetables included? She said no, find we order another 3-4 items, and we did order some starters, which is gyoza, vocano tuna, chicken karage When foods start arrived to table we got 3 gyoza, chicken karage, and vacano tuna, i m about to ask server, she said these 2 gyozas come with the set! What????! Then 4 salads were landing on table, and said these also included on set!!! I really upset!!!! Now seem like we overly order because we have not been explained enough!what exactly come in the set for 4!!! If we would known or have been told!!! these much food come with set for 4! We will not order side and a bun of veggies!! Seem like all she care its the sales and dnt even care how much we overly order (by not telling us what exactly on menu) If You going to eat here, be careful!!! Price and food were ok, but you might be end up like our party... So we cant even finish the meal , it s way too much for us!!!!! And if she (server) was really care about service and had more hospitality, she will not definitely have to care about sale ... Because we knew HOW TO TAKE Care a GOOD server!!!! We still left 18% tip because that how we tipped for poor service.....

Great experience

By Alany O |

Went on a Friday night with my fiancée. It was my first time there and the server Sebastian did a great job explaining the whole concept and took great care of us. The whole Friday late night happy hour is great! Loved having half off martinis. We will definitely come back soon!

Incredible experience

By Spencer D |

This restaurant is a must do in Miami! Twice! It's great entertainment cooking your own food in the BBQ pit, but I was also unexpectedly thrilled at how the food, start to finish, was exceptional quality. The Korean dumplings were the best I've even had, amazing fresh-off-the-farm tasting salad, steak that melts in the mouth, etc. The restaurant is quite new, thus impeccably decorated in contemporary Asian high style and spotlessly clean. The prices are very reasonable, but if you're starving, or want to sample everything, you can still run up a bill. Two beers and stuffing ourselves ran about $40. Service was competent: friendly and reasonably knowledgeable, but as is true with most restaurants these days, it's a weird team effort, so you get visits from 5 different people during the meal. Hard to know from whom to order, etc. Hurry, I can't imagine that prices aren't going to go up and reservations will be harder to come by.

Deliciously rich food

By Canan A |

It is always fun having a hibachi grill, but this is more than that! Foods are really yummy, especially marshmallows! It’s better to get there with a reservation, otherwise you will be waiting at least 45 minutes to sit a table.

Always fun

By Jules777_11 |

Really like coming here. Kids always hve fun. Tables and seats are confortable. At the beginning though, when they just opened they had a lot of promotions and combos that you could save on. Now the choice is not that wide, but still enjoyable. Green tea cake desert is out of the other world. You will not find it anywhere else. Must try

A fun, tasty place.

By soph_owen |

Our first visit to this restaurant, and we really enjoyed it. The food was tasty, meat good quality. We shared the Meat Lover’s banquet and an additional bowl of ramen. The Tonkatsu ramen was absolutely delicious, especially with an addition of the hot and spicy sauce from the table. The chicken karaage was really nice, akin to similar places we have tried in the UK and USA. Very tasty. Edamame beans were good, fresh and garnished with seasoning. We upgraded a couple of our meats and we really liked the experience. Our server was also lovely and gave us a free dessert for our Honeymoon!

Hungry after leaving :(

By Melissa G |

Wanted to love this place. I thought it would be a fun experience (and it was). We ordered one of the combination menus. The fried rice was really good. The cocktails were ok. Very skimpy on the food. The desert was s'mores. I was very excited about this but you get one. One s'more. NO -just no. You need more then one s'more. I won't be coming back.

Good value

If you don't mind cooking your own food this is the right place, the service is excellent, the food is awesome, i Feel on vacation every time i go. Sake is the best! you can try a little bit of everything all kind of meats and delicious vegetables. it's an environment to change your day.

Love this place

By Beatriz M |

Have to say it was an extraordinary experience to cook at the table. Starting with the servive which was spectacular. To start off I ordered the "Hot Oil Seared Salmon" in citrus sauce and could say it's taste was unique. Also I ordered the "Pork Belly Chips" which I loved. The meats were fresh and tender. Would recommend this place and will return soon.

Amazing clean, healthy food and exceptional service!

By 1Lilly |

Order the bacon wrapped scallop, sweet onion, chicken cheese fondue. We had 3 adults and ordering 4 proteins and 2 vegetables were plenty. For appetizer try the ship dumpling in chili oil. Excellent and the green tea was thick with good green tea residue at the bottom. Our service was exceptional with waiter Carlos from Venezuela. His attention to detail and prompt return with requests was fantastic. Service from him was better then a fine dining steak house. We ate here on Christmas Day and the place was packed. Delicious! I recommend ordering al a carte vs the set menu. Right now they have $2.99 hot saki. Yum!

Surprisingly Delicious, fun & awesome service!

By Cid C |

My boyfriend and I were expecting real Kobe beef, but I have to admit this Kobe Style beef from Texas farms was amazing! The service, atmosphere and overall appetizers, dessert and drinks were in par! Great date night or place with to cook your own food with friends! Definitely worth the drive from south beach, Uber was a great option!

YUM! excellent food, service soso

By Rondelafuente |

so my buddies in MIA asked me what I wanted to eat. Asian Cuisine is always high on my list, so they came with this suggestion. It was busy as hell and we were in line to wait for our reservation, not a bad sign. To kill time we waited at the bar where I dived head first into a gin tonic. Hurt my head on the way since it barely contained tonic. As I am not an 18 year old I actually don;t like drinking pure alcohol and sent it back for a slight dilution. We moved to the table and my buddy ordered the meatlover's Bbq. I know it is japanese but i whispered 'do you think they have any kimchi?' and before I knew it my wish came true and i was chowing dwn beautiful kimchi. The meat came and we started eating like 3 hungry wolves. Excellent Miso soup and fluffy white rice and after devouring what seemed like an entire cow, we jumped into the last course, the house Smores. Man, i could barely walk home. As you can read I did not mention the service much, that is because it was the thing that impressed us the least. Nice people for sure, however drinks came super late, orders were mixed up and half way through the food our waiter changed from a guy into a girl which was confusing. Hiowever...the food was so damn good that I would have served myself if I had to. SO, if you like Asian, if you like BBQ and if you belive Smores are a good idea for any meal, head down and do what we did. awesome.

It was alright

By Robert H |

The seating for 7 was very uncomfortable for me I couldn't reach the grill to grab the meats and the sitting had no back to lean on. The sauces could've been better. The service was constant bring dishes taking away dishes. The tongue was too tough. I think I'll stick to the Korean BBQs. It wasn't bad but I'll try something else.

Fun Place, Great Food

By 147davidh |

The restaurant is clean and the food was great. The portions are small--as the waitstaff will tell you, so order a bit extra (or just a side of rice as I did). There are plenty of options to choose from (different meats and veggies), and a decent drink selection as well. The prices are surprisingly not bad for the location, though the most expensive meats will set you back some. The waitstaff was nice and inviting, and the table was well attended. Grilling your own food at the table is the main attraction here, and it is definitely fun! I would definitely eat here again.

Great Food Excellent Service

By AtulBravo |

I visited this place while staying at the Hampton Inn Miami Brickell as this was located one block from the hotel. The Kobe meat selection was excellent. By far the best Kobe beef I have eaten. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Unique experience --- grilling your food at your table.

Very Interesting Delicious Food

I came here to try something different in Brickell area. The experience is very good. I would highly recommend the place

Nothing special....

By Daniel D |

After hearing about this restaurant from some friends, I decided to visit and overall it was nothing special. The highlight of the visit are the prices and the service. For a restaurant in Brickell I would have expected higher prices, but here a person can easily eat for around 13 dollars and two people for around 20 bucks. As for the service, it was great. Our server was very attentive and made sure we were always good with our drinks. But what is supposed to be the hero of a restaurant, the food, was the villain in this case. We ordered multiple meats, veggies and a plate of rice. All of the dishes were bland, they lacked all lacked a spark of flavor. Overall, I cannot really recommend this restaurant as the experience was not special at all.

Wonderful yakikiku in Miami!

By LoganMiami |

Been wanting to eat here since before it even opened so finally getting to chow down was a real treat. The place is really nice and has a very Japanese feeling to it right down to the welcoming cry of "Irashaimasen!" They have a good selection of meats as well as other foods like ramen and gyoza. I had some pork belly along with the ramen, gyoza and some beer and felt like I was back in Japan. Give this place a try as soon as you can.

Fine food but TERRIBLE SERVICE!

By jiez813 |

My parents and I had dinner in this restaurant on Feb.7th. We had nice experience with this brand when we traveled in Japan in 2015. Therefore, we highly expected to have a nice meal and good service. But the entire restaurant was lack of efficiency and we had terrible service! I called around 4 PM to make reservation for 5:15 PM. When we arrived at 5:20 due to the traffic, we had to wait for over 15 min to get seated, which I thought it’s fine at that point. For the dinner, we choose “all you can eat” for $40 per person as we were pretty hungry after a long day shopping. When we started ordering the food, the waitress said we could only order 6 items a time. This rule wasn’t stated on the menu, and I only do regular ordering before. But it’s fine if they can bring the food quickly. At the beginning, even though most of time our table only had one or two items and looked significantly empty then others. We still felt fine as the food was fine, though not comparable to their Japanese locations. But after about 10 or 12 items, the initial waitress didn’t come to service after I politely asked her “ since my dad was going to American airline arena for the NBA, could you please bring the food a little bit quicker or let the kitchen know?”. After that other waiters came bring few more items but I had to raised my hand all the time. I saw a group of 4-5 waitress including our initial waitress and waiters were chatting next to the bar and no one took a look at the guests. We ordered beef tongue and white rice through waiters a couple of times but only got the rice in the end. Therefore, during the entire dinner our table half of time only had 1 or 2 items and the rest time was empty. In the end I raised my hand again and complain a little bit to another waitress said “ I asked for beef tongue almost 20 min ago but never get it. Anyway, since we’re running out of time, I would like to order 3 green tea ice cream and checkout”. After the waitress left a waiter we spoke to order beef tongue and rice just came to our table with the RUDEST ATTITUDE I ever met. He came to my side and stood next to me and talked to me with high voice “ You only ordered the beef tongue 3 min ago and I brought the rice. You must speak to other people!” Well I don’t want to quarrel or fight in a restaurant, so I said “ okay, I asked other waiters”. Then this waiter made a ugly face by rolling his eyes and left away. After this we don’t want to have dessert at all, so we went to the reception desk and ask to check out. The initial waitress was at the reception playing with her phone. I paid the meal of $128 but didn’t leave any penny for tip. I asked her “may I speak to the manager?”, she said wait then told me the manager was out for dinner without checking with anyone in the back. The entire dinner was terrible, it seems the restaurant was not willing to bring food. The meal was limited to 90min, but most of time we didn’t have food on the table. The waiter who rushed to our table and spoked with the rudest attitude I ever see. I felt like he wanted us to apologize to him. In sum, I’m not recommend this restaurant at all, especially for the “ all you can eat meal”!

Amazing experience!

By Kyla N |

I've listened a lot about these places where you cook your own meal, so I just found this one when I was in Miami. The place is very nice, good music and an amazing service! Rodolfo was our server and He helped us a lot and gave us a very very informative introduction to the menu. I loved the getting on the knees thing to talk to us. The food is really good, need some time to figure out how it works but when you get the idea, it goes very well. Tuna volcano, sukiaky bibimba (or something like this), skirt and hanger steak were my preferred ones. Totally recommend and it is my new favorite restaurant in Miami.

Asian BBQ in Brickell District

By CocoGroveMike |

We had a great dinner with a friend. We ordered many items to sample and share that were very delicious. We all agreed it was a fun dinner and a place to returnl

Good food, good location

By Sarahnorthants82 |

Good food, good location in downtown/ Brickell. The food was good, although it was quite pricey. We had the set menu which was well varied. Only one minor issue, the service was rushed and quite impersonal. It didn’t spoil our night but wasn’t quite in line with the overall prices...

Spontaneously Creative

By Melina M |

The smell will attract you from outside. Super cool spot with deliciously flavor/season food!! Cooking your own stuff let’s you play a little, it makes it more interesting. You have bbq style meats, seafood, pork or chicken options and they have different sauces to flavor (all very delicious and 1 is a little spicy). You also get to pick a bunch of vegetables to keep it light and nice. A few more side dishes are available. The desserts are also awesome and delicious. The drinks very creative and many options to choose from. Every time I go I have a good time and never been disappointed. Totally recommend to everyone! (;

So glad I stopped in

By James G |

I did not know what to expect with this restaurant. It has been open for a few months, but I didn't feel really compelled to go. Then a friend mentioned it. Then another friend mentioned it. I decided to stop by for lunch. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The experience was unique. each table had a mini grill built into it. Your meats are brought uncooked, but marinated. You grill everything in front of you. Plus, each grill has its own vacuum system to remove the smoke so you don't leave the restaurant smelling like food. The happy hour/lunch specials are a hit. My wife and I went for lunch and the bill came to just under $30. For Brickell, this is a steal. I had the hangover beef, Toro Beef, and Filet Mignon. All were very good, but Toro beef was my favorite. In Miami, where style is more important than substance, I was very pleased with the substance. The food was very good and I look forward to returning.

Sunday happy hour all day!

The food was great, a lot of fun cooking our meals and eating them. Everything was delicious, fresh, and good quality. The server was super friendly and helpful. Sunday is happy hour ALL day! Lots of food and drinks to choose from

Good, but almost fast food with a very loud staff.

By Roy T |

Having tried the same restaurant in New York City a few years ago, really loved it, we were excited to try "Be Your Own Chef" again. The concept is great. The staff brings out the raw foods from the kitchen, you do the cooking at the table over a built-in table gas grill. But not so fast. This kind of dining we want to take our time, to really enjoy ourselves. The quality of the food was very good. The price not bad for Miami, but the wait staff need to get back in training. Both Knees on the floor hanging on the table while taking the order is just not that classy. On top of that our table was very close to the wait staff station. Come on, we don't care about what you did yesterday. Yes, this place could really need some staff improvements.

Filthy & Tired

By Harandy |

Having enjoyed the Gyu-Kaku in NYC, we thought we’d try this Miami outpost during our New Year’s visit and regretted it before we even stepped inside. With smoke billowing out of vents as we approached the restaurant, a glance through filthy windows revealed the disorganized and tired interior “decor” awaiting us. Once seated at our table, everything we touched was sticky from previous diners which was a huge turnoff. The table, menus, sauce bottles... Everything we ordered (even the edamame was over cooked) was of poor quality (asparagus was mostly the tough bottom ends; white rice was at least 2-days old and reheated; mushroom medley resembled someone’s leftovers hastily wrapped in reused aluminum foil; garlic shrimp covered in near rancid jarred garlic; “bibimbap” was a bad joke — tasting more like a pseudo-stew with dreadful inedible pieces of “meat” and bell peppers (which we specifically requested to omit); chicken thighs whose flavor left us swooning with fear of getting sick.... We couldn’t wait to get our check and get out of there. Save yourself, and don’t eat here.

Location by Brickell is excellent, Pinecrest not so much

By denitrip |

We have been to the original restaurant close to Brickell several times and the service is very professional and so is the staff, the drinks and the food is great. We visited the new location in Pinecrest and what a disaster! The receptionists are not trained to work in this type of place at all. We walked in and advised we had made reservations via voice mail and they were totally dumbfounded. She didn't understand what I was saying. Finally, I said we're 7 and we're all here, the hostess said to give her a minute. The restaurant was totally EMPTY, it was a little before 6 pm. The hostess and three either employees went and stood by an empty large table for several minutes. Finally, she came back and asked if she could help me. WHAT?!?! Meanwhile, a party of four came in and were immediately seated. I asked for the Manager, he ignored me and he finally came by and was taking to the hostess until I interrupted him and told him how we've been treated. He quickly apologized (not sincerely) and said he'd have them seat us when the table was available. There was NO ONE THERE at the table!!!! The staff and management are a joke and the service was not that great. I'd rather drive to downtown pay for parking and get 100% better service than return here! Terrible

Just Okay

When all else fails go to a familiar place. And that is what our family did one day when we were looking for a place to eat. I just have to say Gyu Kaku overall has lost it's quality that it once had. The quality of meat use to be much better and more tender. The grills NEVER work properly - whether here or in Los Angeles. But one element that always stays the same and why I gave it a three instead of a one rating - the service is great. The servers are always warm and friendly.

Good Japanese barbecue

The place is crowded but staff was organized. The chairs however are kinda uncomfortable to sit at. The food was great and the choices varied. The steaks cut are tender and the squid was exquisite. The sauces are flavorful. The appetizers were delicious specially the pork belly and seaweed salad. Kinda on the pricey side but well worth the food. You have to be hungry to really enjoy the buffet.

Great food - but lack of service!

I love this restaurant from Los angeles and Ive been looking forward to show my family in Miami what all the fuzz were about. We got a waiter, who didn't show any interest in us, which unfortunately can ruin a good night. He didn't listen when I tried to order my favorite food, therefor he came with the wrong starters and one of the starters ended up coming after our main dish, so we said we didn't want it. It's Friday night and we wanted to have drinks and desserts after we were done with the food, but after 30 minutes with looking after our waiter, who never showed up, we desided to go somewhere else. We told the owner about the unhappy situation and he apologized and offered us some drinks. But the problem were that I've been looking forward to this night for such a long time and the waiter with no service skills kind of ruined our night and a drinks couldn't fix that. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant because of the lack of service. the food is amazing, especially when you get what you order.

How fun! Excellent dinner!

This was such a fun restaurant - but realize you have to cook your food on the grills at the table. Started with fun drinks at the bar (lichi mojito and hubs had Mint Julep) then seated at our table w son and my sister. My son Kevin ordered for us all and wow - from salad, soup, dumplings, kim- chi ( pretty good and never ate it before) and calamari as appetizers then to the fun stuff. A variety of kobi beef, pork, Japanese sausages (yum), marinated shrimp, sweet onions and asparagus- we cooked on the grill. Sounds like a lot, but really just 1 or 2 pieces per person of each. And of course, warm sake. Highly recommend this restaurant. Only downside was our waitress - very unattentive, had to wait forever for forks ( dont use chopsticks) and extra plates, very curt and not helpful. Otherwise would be 5 star all the way. Plan couple hours and reservations at night.

First Time

Cook your own. Loved it. We were able to take advantage of the 'all you can eat' at the summer discount. Now I am a meat eater so I pigged out on steak. I found out I am a fan of cooking your own and I felt the choices were varied enough to satisfy a picky eater. I can't compare pricing but found that it was reasonable for what we ate.

Go there to eat the Lady M (Dessert)

By Miamismith305 |

This Asian restaurant has more than 700 locations in the world, it is characterized by its grill in the center of the tables, which allows each diner to cook their proteins to the term they like most. They offer "all you can eat" and "happy hour" options. We recommend you order the Green Tea Crepe, a dessert that comes from the famous pastry shop Lady M.

Fun DIY BBQ Dinner

We ordered Al la carte, since neither of us are big eaters. Great location, walked from our hotel. Made reservations and were seated right away. Had the skirt steak and kobi beef. Both were very good. Would go again, maybe with more people. There is one in PA that is close to home.

Fun experience

Japanese style grill-your-self BBQ, visited with a colleague as it was located right next to our hotel. Started by ordering a dinner course for 2 with an expectation or order more of what we liked. At the end, the fixed menu was more than enough. Not the same as what you would expect from a Yakiniku restaurant in Japan, but not bad given we are half way around the globe from Japan.

Fun night out

By dragon Of dissent |

This was my first time at a Korean BBQ. It was delicious and happy hour prices made it even more fun. I loved the experience and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the unfiltered sake and earthy, hot green tea. Everything was clean and worked but a family seated next to us had to move when their grill wasn't working. And last time my bf was here his grill didn't work. For more of an experience the only things I could wish for are to pay more homage to the culture with quality chopsticks, private rooms with rice paper walls, and indoor sandals to change into. Kotatsus for the winter time would be a lot of fun. Don't miss out on this. :)

Very solw service.....

This place is really nice, great food and very friendly. Could have been 5 stars but the service was really slow.... at times the weider would even forget to bring the drinks we asked for and had to remind her constantly..... will come back, hopefully service time improves.......

Horrible servicr

By pili w |

Horrible experience. Went there around 7:45 pm tonight with my friend - spur of the moment decision so did not have reservation. Was told by Maitre D' that there will be a 15 minute wait. She said we could get a drink at the bar while we waited - and that sounded good. My friend had traveled all day and was hungry so asked if we could eat at the bar. The Maitre D' said it's a short wait why not just wait for a table. So we waited And waited. Others came we assume without reservation as they waited a few minutes and and got seated. We saw plenty of customers leave after having dinner. After 20 minutes we asked her how much longer. By this time, restaurant had become quite busy. She tells us "I thought you are eating at the bar". We told her that she is the one who persuaded us to wait for a table. She says give me 10 more minutes to get another table. In the meantime there are empty tables. One guy comes in and says he wants a different table and she accommodates. But never is there an urgency to get us seated. So after 15 minutes when she had not gotten back we pay for the drinks and leave. The one star is for the bartender who was really nice.

Kind of unique experience for Miami

By Yaroslaw_Kerget |

Good place, kind of unique experience for Miami Dade. Like their BBQ mounted on your table, I had filet mignon and Kobe style Picana and the Kobe was way tender than mignon, as it suppose to be. Shrimp steamed dumplings is a top notch meal - really tasty. Spicy tofu Chigae Soup a bit spicy and contain a boiled chicken (I do not eat boiled meat in soups instead of Pho soup) but the meal is also tasty. Virgin mango lemonade is taste like chemicals in it. Overall really nice place. I was early morning on Monday so was a few table taken but looks like on evenings especially Friday and Saturday this place is full of people.

Finally in Miami

By Periphery Lina |

This is my favorite food. Well, all Japanese are crazy about yakiniku, the Japanese Style BBQ. Finally they opened in Miami, after ownership changed and started to franchise them. I knew what to eat and expect, so for the food part, it's just great. What surprised me though was that, they did not serve the original Gyukaku Sauce on the table. The best part is that sauce, so that was disappointing. The cabbage, too much sesame oil, but their dessert, the Green tea crepe was to die for! I thought there were too much unnecessary shouts from the waiters, specially it didn't really sound Japanese and some Latino waiters English was hard to understand. But over all, I'm so happy that I can eat a real yakiniku in Miami, the closest civilized city from where I live.

A fun time.

5 of us dined here last night. It was a fun experience overall. We opted for the $130 package and ordered a few extras. One of which we never received (pork belly chips). The only disappointment was our waiter knew this package was a lot of food, but when we inquired about the beef tongue as an extra, he was unclear about the amount we would get. He told us we should get 3....whatever that meant. To our surprise, it was 3 plates with a lot of tongue slices on them. Way more than we really needed or could eat in addition to all we were getting. Once he put it on the table we explained it was way too much. He said that being it was on our table already we couldn't send it back. It really wasn't the price of $4 per plate that annoyed me. It was the bad customer service. He should have picked his battle, sucked it up, and just taken it off the bill. His suggestion was for us to cook it and take it home. We were staying at the Conrad hotel nearby so this wasn't an option. We only ate a few slices because it was awful quality of tongue. We eat it often at home and knew what to expect. It was very salty and looked cured. Everything else was fantastic. All the soup, apps, meats, fish, vegetables and DESSERT!

Cook your own food

By Jaime L |

You get to cook your own meal at your table while having a good Japanese beer. There is a lot of variety and although the cooking part is sort of a gimmick, it makes it for a different type of eating out.

great Japanese BBQ

I have been to this location twice. Once with a groupon, once without. I would highly recommend coming during the happy hour times. All day on sunday, for example. Great bear and food specials. Fun atmosphere

Great Korean BBQ but awful service...

By Brian B |

So this is our 3rd time coming here, the food is simply amazing and great decor, but dont expect great service. 3 times its happen where we have to ask for the waiter to come and get our drinks then we need to do the same to order the food. We look around and it seems to happen to others as well. This could be a great restaurant if a manager would keep in top of the waiter service. Hope this changes or we will stop coming here.....

Great time with friends BBQing and Drinking

By Kelvis D |

We had such a good time here. I had a groupon and we came during their happy hour (which they have quite often) and the wait staff let us use the groupon during happy hour. The restaurant was pretty big and every table was equipped with a BBQ pit. I only mention this because Drunken Dragons in South Beach only has BBQ pits on select tables. The wait staff was amazing. There were three waiters taking care of us all the time. They explained the menu to my friends who'd never been there before and most importantly they kept the beers coming :) We loved everything we tried. For appetizer we had the pork gyoza dumplings which disappeared in a couple of seconds, so they were good. The edamame was good, but seriously, how can you mess that up. We kept the ball rolling with the chicken garlic noodles. I ordered these and they did not disappoint! We also had the Mushroom Spinach bibimbap which is really hard to pronounce when you've had two beers. But it was very very good! We all shared the tofu chigae which was spicy and delicious. At this point we were kind of full but that didn't stop us from trying the Kobe style picaña and the Toro beef. The Toro beef was amazing. The picaña we had trouble getting through. It was tough and chewy. Maybe we overcooked it, or maybe that's just how the meat was but we definitely won't get it again. We ended the meal by sharing the green tea crepe which was amazing! Especially if you love green tea as much as I do! Needless to say I can't wait to go back there again :)

I tried a few dishes and they were decent. What I enjoyed the most was the bbq, the meat choices were nice and flavorful. A great experience, especially if you're with a group.
