Got take-out

By Travelingyogi82 |

What I liked the most was that they off a choice of real or imitation crabmeat in the California Roll. Who wants imitations when you can get the real thing. The other rolls that I got were very good. This place was in a great location near our hotel.

Wonderful

Recently took my daughter on a visit to Atlanta. This is an easy review... The best sushi we both have had.

Best sushi I've ever had

By 02Hoosier |

I've eaten sushi in many major cities across the country and this place is my favorite. I walked in and sat at the sushi bar a half hour before they were closing and they couldn't have been more welcoming. The hostess greeted me, unwrapped my chopsticks and took my drink order promptly while the chef took my sushi order. I ended up eating a spicy tuna roll and the Burrito roll (tuna, salmon, spicy crab salad and avocado wrapped in soy paper). Both were phenomenal and tasted as fresh as you could hope for. Also, I had a seaweed salad that was excellent as well. I was in on business and had a tough time finding this place but it's in a shopping center with a Kroger for those that try and find it. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for incredible sushi in Atlanta.

Great Sushi

The Sushi was very good, and fresh. It is a small restaurant but the service is gigantic! Everything was well presented. We all enjoyed it very much.

Fist time Trying

By Esimonso |

We just moved to the area recently, and wanted to try this as a meal before my daughter went to college. I had some sushi roll specials, my wife had a noodle soup, and my daughter also had sushi. Everything was quite good, portion was decent but a little on the pricey side. Definitely recommend a try though.

Small, cozy place, attentive service and delicious food

By Vida y Viajes |

Small, cozy place, attentive service and delicious food. That pretty much wraps it up and anything after that would be redundant. Plenty of parking, free, in front.

Great value awesome food

By rem230 |

As many sushi’s I have been to in my life, this place ranks at the top. The service is great, and the food is second to none. It doesn’t have the glamour some sushi places have, but the trade-off is it also doesn’t have the expensive price. Food is consistently great which in the end is exactly what matters.

Hole in the wall. YUMMY. Fresh!!

By lisa0916 |

This place is located next to a Kroger supermarket, and small inside but BIG on freshness and flavor. We all enjoyed the warm towels they give you at the beginning of the meal. The appetizer steamed edamame was good. Would def visit again.

Great atmosphere-great sushi!

"A Friendly Place"

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Hoki is a small, intimate Japanese restaurant situated in a strip center. I was here at lunch time and it was quite crowded. Since I was alone, I was seated at the sushi bar. The menu consists of a number of traditional Japanese dishes. I had one of the specials, that consisted of a choice of two different rolls. I went with the spicy tuna and cucumber rolls. Miso soup and salad were also included. While I enjoyed the the cucumber roll, I found the sauce on the the spicy tuna roll to be inconsistent. It wasn't mixed right, so some rolls had a bit of kick and some didn't. I also found the sauce to be a bit too sweet for my taste. An off day I guess. Service was fine. One of the sushi chefs asked how I was and on my way out they said good bye. A nice touch I thought. Even though the food wasn't perfect, I think I got a good value at $9.

Good quality food, they offer take out.

Small restaurant tucked inside a strip mall next to a Kroger's 24hour store, so it's easy to miss. Friendly staff, good food, intimate dining. Good for small groups or a date night.

Favorite sushi in Atlanta

By Mary B |

This is our favorite place to have sushi in Atlanta. Sashimi cuts are always fresh! We have tried many of the rolls, our favorites being the spicy tuna and angelfish. This is a small restaurant with very nice decor. Have the green tea tiramisu for dessert. It's light and delicious!

Amazing sushi! Great service!

By aliciac2bigkids |

This was my second trip to Hoki. This time I brought my family and now they understand why I love this restaurant! The sushi tastes so fresh and delicious. We had the salmon roll, Burrito roll, and the spicy tuna roll along with the miso soup and salad. Although we have to drive 45 minutes to the restaurant, it is well worth the drive! I totally recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fresh, delicious food, a clean restaurant, a friendly atmosphere, and very professional yet personal service!

Love Sushi...Love Hoki

By SusanaMaria_GA |

My first visit was today for lunch with a friend. The place has a nice clean, modern vibe. The tables and the counter were full of happy patrons. Our server was very personable and attentive. The menu offerings were plentiful and based on my view of others’ plates, the food was very appealing. I decided on the Lunch Special Makimono which included an organic salad, a cup of Miso soup and your choice of 2 (out of 9 choices) of sushi rolls for $11. I selected the California Roll and Crunchy Crab Roll - enjoyed them both. Each roll was sliced into about 8 bites, so 16 bites plus the salad/soup was pleasantly filling. We also shared a Green Tea Tiramisu for dessert which was super delicious. While this was my first time here, it won’t be my last! Definitely want to try the appealing Shrimp Tempura I saw served to another table! Also loved the great service! Good value for the $$.

Small location, not attentive hosts

Fresh fabulous sushi, though make it your own as hostess is disinterested in her patrons. Possibly better for a take out.

Classy little Japanese restaurant in a strip mall

By ginnymom911 |

A friend and I find ourselves meeting for lunch at Hoki more and more often. We both really love the Bento Box! It comes with Miso soup, salad with the standard ginger dressing, two puffy shrimp shumai, a California roll, wakame salad and streamed rice. There's a choice of tempura or teriyaki chicken, shrimp or beef...all for 8-11 dollars! My husband and I have sampled the sushi and sashimi at dinner and it was excellent as well. Be aware that the restaurant opens at 11:30 for lunch and closes at 2:30. It reopens for dinner at 5:00.

Enjoyed delicious sushi, casual and comfortable atmosphere

By 452susanv |

Family group of six dined at HOKI for dinner and it was delicious. We shared everything, including saki and beer. The sushi was delicious. We ordered some fancy rolls as well as tempura, sashimi, and of course miso soup to start. Loved the variety available and everything tasted very fresh. Service was friendly and good. We will definitely return to HOKI!

Incredible; this place NEVER fails to please and delight!

By VirginiaGeorgia |

I have lost track of how many times we have been here. We always sit at the sushi bar and that is a delight in itself. This time one in our group had the Hoki Dragon Roll, another the Lobster Roll, and the third the Spider Roll. The miso soup and octopus completed our order. All were very fresh and delicious as is the standard here. As always the gracious greetings, hot towels, the unwrapping of our chopsticks and overall high quality of service contributed to the evening. Do try the Plum Sangria if it is on the menu. We have eaten sushi in many cities; this is by far the best.Don't let the shopping center (anchored by a Kroger grocery store) location deter you. This restaurant is not to be missed.

Outstanding sushi!

By CzechGypsy |

I am in the ATL for a 3 day business trip. When I travel I try to avoid chain anything. I was looking for somewhere that a co worker and I could go to dinner near our hotel. I came across this place online and it had good reviews. I love sushi so I said lets try this out. SO GLAD we did. The interior is inviting, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered shrimp tempura for an app. I ordered the Super Ebi roll with soy wrap and she ordered the Caribbean roll. I'll tell ya, I could have eaten 30 more of those Ebi rolls. It has this spicy vinegar concoction on it that absolutely drove it home. She order the green tea tiramisu for desert and that was pretty fab too. I would absolutely eat here regularly if I lived in the area and will, without question, be back again when I am back in town on business.

Little Gem, Great Sushi & Sashimi

By Dave_from_MN |

Don't let the location (small storefront in strip mall next to Krogers) put you off... Outstanding sushi and sashimi in small, relaxed & intimate setting. Great saki as well. Well worth it for get together with friends, family.

Premium for Spicy Mayo

By ccesq |

This restaurant caught my eye when I was picking up lunch from Thai Diner. I went in for a takeout menu and was told that they didn't have any. In fact, they didn't even have business cards. Though I was a little put off by this, I looked up the menu online and ordered lunch a week later. I chose a lunch special consisting of miso soup and two spicy rolls for $13. I thought that was a little expensive, especially when you consider that the two rolls without spicy mayo could be had on the lunch menu for $9. A four dollar mark up for mayo doesn't seem reasonable. Price aside, the rolls were very tasty. I will order again though I will supply my own spicy mayo.

Well done sushi

By KellyJo78 |

I used yelp to find a sushi restaurant close to my house on Saturday night when my daughter and I had a sudden craving for sushi. I got a reservation for fairly early and when we arrived it was very busy but they had our table held. Had an assortment of rolls as well as the okra appetizer which may seem strange in a Japanese restaurant but it was well done fried in the tempura batter with a sweet sauce on the side. Everyone was very happy with their orders. I thought the rainbow roll was excellent and I enjoyed the green tea that I had to go along with mine. Would return.

Awesome tasting menu

By Sail_or_Dive |

We have tried many Japanese restaurants in Atlanta and this best by far. If you are looking for traditional Japanese food this is the place for you. Try the tasting menu and let the chef choose for you.

Fresh Sushi & Sashimi

By scatterjoy1 |

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. Service was good. We ordered four different varieties of traditional sushi and sashimi dinner and donburi. They were all fresh.

Great sushi!

By Philip F |

Visited with a friend. This tiny unassuming little place had the most wonderful array of sushi I have ever had. I recommend the - angelfish, carribean, pink lady, burrito and rock and roll.

Just as good as their predecessor!

By JennATL |

We used to frequent Tomo, which occupied this spot until the abandoned it for fancier digs (and fancier prices!). We paid an impromptu visit and it felt like deja vous. Nothing had been altered from the Tomo days, except the name on the awning and really you had to look twice to even notice that! The sushi was top notch, just like it had always been as Tomo. The prices where fine, too. This is an unassuming, but very convenient location. Good to know it is business as usual for great sushi in the Vinings area.

Divine

By Diane R |

If you are in the Cumberland area of Atlanta, and you love sushi, then you have to visit Hoki Japanese Restaurant. Don't let the location fool you....it's tucked neatly in the vicinity of a Kroger and BP station, but when you enter this lovely bistro, you are greeted with enthusiasm and a modern décor. You are given warm towels, while the server opens your chopsticks and places them on a ceramic holder. The music is classical and soothing, and the service is excellent. I never cared for sushi because I found the Nori, ginger, and wasabi taste to be overpowering and artificial. At Hoki, the ginger is white, paper thin, and melts perfectly on the tongue. The Nori is like nothing I've ever tasted before; it's delicate and delicious. We had Karaagee Chicken to start, shrimp tempura roll, Shoyuramen, and Chicken Teriyaki. The Miso soup broth is divine, as was all of our food. We finished our meal with green tea Tiramisu and Mochi ice cream...absolutely delectable! The chefs at this restaurant are artists. The food is beautifully plated and perfectly priced; it is first class all the way through. We enjoyed our visit so much that we went back for more the next night!

Our favorite sushi place EVER!

By catwomanAtlanta |

This is THE place to go for GREAT quality sushi. We are huge sashimi fans and Andy & Mike deliver the best there is...Can't go anywhere else!

Truly enjoyed my sushi!!!

By ejill |

On my last night of a business trip to Atlanta, I decided to treat myself to a sushi meal. However, it's a little dicey in a strange town to do this -- you sure don't want to get bad sushi. The sushi at HOKI was FAR from bad -- it was delicious! I had hamachi truffle ... absolutely amazing! Then the Ruby Red roll -- a spicy tuna roll -- followed by the angel fish roll. All were fresh, beautiful and inviting, not to mention delectable. I was too full for dessert, which I was a bit sad about since some of their desserts have gotten rave reviews. I highly recommend this restaurant! Wish I was closer, but I will be back when I get to Atlanta again!

Great Chirashi - Jewel Tucked Away

By Jen J |

Great Sushi Restaurant tucked away in a corner of a strip mall / grocery store. Every time I have sushi, I go for the Chirashi and this is one of the best ones that I have had in a very long time. Some nice seasoning is added to the right pieces of fish which brings out more of the flavor. 2 weeks in a row and the same review! Give them a try you won't be disappointed. You can tell how good it is from the 1st sip of Miso to the Ginger dressing on the salad, etc.

Great service

By Shellgirl528 |

I found this place by accident and was glad I did. I had wonderful service and the food was excellent. I had the rainbow tartar and the Narita. Both were excellent. I find the prices a bit high though on the wine. I had 2 glasses of house white wine that totaled $26! Should have the menu on that first. I would still eat here again though.

It's just OK

By spaintravelerAtlanta |

Went here upon the recommendation of some friends that are obviously not sushi aficionados. Service was good...took a while to get waters and we had to ask for it. The Miso soup was good. The cod was ok....a little overcooked...should be flaky and it wasn't. The tuna tartar roll had a strange taste to it (had fried onions on top) and some of the other rolls we ordered were just ok. Glad we tried a new sushi restaurant to confirm that our usual place IS the best. Restaurant is very cute.

Great Bento Box Lunch

By TheSfamily4 |

We've eaten lunch here a few times, and it's very good. My husband has sushi, and I love the teriyaki bento box. It's a great neighborhood place.

Amazingly good and priced nice!

By GaCare |

I love sushi - anything raw and unusual is great by me. We go to Umi in Atlanta often - but it is quite hard to get there without a reservation weeks in advance, which is not so convenient. And they are fairly high priced (although worth it) But we just discovered Hoki! They have the normal sushi and rolls - although unusually fresh and very yummy! But they also have "unusual" dishes - quite like Umi but maybe fresher fish... their fish melts in your mouth. And the price is a lot less than normal sushi places with the type of quality that Hoki has. The service was fantastic also. You cannot go wrong with Hoki

Small food, big price

By samuel618 |

Thought this would be a good place to check-out while visiting the Vinings area. Spent $30 on a roll of sushi and some "teriyaki chicken." The chicken was in no way teriyaki- it was grilled chicken with a teriyaki-type sauce on the side, with no distinct flavor for either. The sushi was okay at best, which is why this is a 2-star rather than a 1-star review. TL;DR- my girlfriend and I went out for Steak&Shake after eating this.

High end sushi in the neighborhood

By Kaba |

Fresh and innovatively prepared sushi in a small but efficient restaurant a Kroger strip mall. Even the atmosphere is good and the place is still buzzing with diners despite the change of ownership a few years ago. High end sushi neighborhood restaurant. Lunches are great value.

Very Small Busy Restaurant Serving Excellent Japanese Cuisine

By Mr. X |

Stopped by on December 28, 2019 Saturday evening around 6:30pm. I sat at a table and already new what I wanted to try, since I'm a die hard fan of Chirashi Don Bowl. True Traditional arrangements of fresh fish in a large ceramic bowl garnished with 2 thin slices of fresh radish, yellow pickled radish, shredded daikon, fancy cut of cooked egg, and a good amount of thick cuts of seafood that tasted soooo fresh, accompanied with mixed green salad (not iceberg lettuce) with a semi-sweet delicious light sesame flavor dressing, followed with Hot Miso Soup w/ all the Traditional garnish modest amount of seaweed and small cuts of tofu..delicious ! Yes...I will be back....!

Ichiban

By Kolekei |

Stopped in to check it out as it'a predescor (Tomo) was one of our favorites. Interior pretty much the same// Seemed a little darker. Didn't have the high energy level Tomos always seemed to have. Good selection on menu. Attractively designed plates.Tempura and miso soup seemed a little salty, tempura batter good but a bit greasy. Bento box lunches reasonable, ample food. Overall a C+ but would give them another shot in the future.

love, love, love hoki

By Erin C |

i am reluctant to review Hoki, not because it isn't excellent, because it is. i am just afraid if i tell you, you will go and it will be harder for me to get a table or spot at the sushi bar. this is absolutely my favorite sushi bar in atlanta. the fish is always fresh and of the highest quality. the sushi is rolled perfect. they don't try to get too fancy or over americanize their sushi, which i appreciate. i better hit submit now, or i might regret sharing this hidden gem with you.

Very tasty lunch place

By Jamie22540 |

During my Atlanta business trip I was take to this Japanese restaurant by a colleague. I thought this was a lovely place for lunch. I had the Beef Teryaki Bento box which was satisfying and very tasty with a good selection accompaniments, and reasonably priced. Other patrons had sushi, and it looked immaculately made. Service was good and our meals were prepared quickly. Would definitely recommend to people, and I hope to visit again so I can try the Sushi.

Sushi Gem in Vinings

By Robert K |

My wife and I have been frequenting this wonderful place for about 5 years, and we always have a wonderful experience. The menu is extensive, but not overly complicated. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable, They always remember us and enjoy chatting about what's happening. The sushi is excellent! We like this place better than MF Sushi in Inman Park and better than the acclaimed Umi in Buckhead. Although Hoki is not fancy, the vibe is good and the sushi is fresh and well-executed! Enjoy!

Great Sushi in Surprising Setting

By Walt_H_1956 |

We’ve been to Hoki several times, and enjoy it very much every time. My wife likes sushi, but not as much as I do. Hoki offers more than sushi, so it’s a great option for us. You’ll find some wonderful apps to get things started. If you go for sushi, be sure to check out the white board next to the sushi bar for the freshest choices. The staff is helpful and fairly pleasant, so ask for advice. The “surprising” part of the setting is that Hoki is located in a strip center anchored by a Kroger store. Like any very good sushi restaurant, it’s not a cheap dinner. I believe it is a good value for the quality of what you get — we just can’t go often.

Amazing Sushi!

By Pablo T |

This is the freshest, most delicious sushi I've had in Atlanta. Wonderful service, great atmosphere for a date. Ask for the specials!

I'm going whether or not anyone comes with me

By ALBAtl_Ga |

I work right down the street and visit Hoki on a regular basis. It's a small restaurant and usually crowded on fridays for lunch, but I've never had a problem getting a table. They have great bento boxes and their rolls are delicious. My favorite roll is the alaska, but I love anything with salmon. I often get the alaska roll with a side of salmon sashimi for a salmon bomb. If you can't go with a friend, at least try take out. One sign that the food is good is how many people dine alone (including me). It basically says "I'm going whether or not anyone comes with me!"

Very good sushi

By Michael G |

I used trip adviser to find a place close to my hotel, reviews were right on! Sushi was fresh and delivered fast, the service was very good. Prices were very reasonable. If you're in the area I recommend you try it.

Great Sushi!

By matt d |

I ate here for the first time yesterday. I had the Bento Sushi and it was very good. I got to try the A5 Wagyu beef. That has opened me up to a whole new level of savory! I have always been skeptical of Wagyu, but after trying it I was very impressed. If it is on the specials board do yourself a favor and get yourself a treat!
