Nice Korean supermarket, good food

By Michael H |

I had heard about HMart a few years ago but until today I had never been. Having just arrived back in America after living in Seoul for about 2 years, I was interested to see what I could find here. Quite a number of things, it turns out. I went through each aisle, taking it all in, finally purchasing a number of items. Then I indulged in some fresh kimbap and doppoki in the cafeteria. How was it? It was wonderful. Will definitely come again.

My New Crush

This is primarily a grocery store so do not expect a restaurant. I love this place! So much to say! it a tour of Asian food and then some. Love the quality and availability of many things not commonly found in American food stores. Really want a guided tour so I might learn what to do with some of the products. Get hungry just writing this. Take a stroll down all the aisles. then get something to eat from the vendors on the way out. Finish it with a coffee and a bit of beautiful pastry.

Check it out

I wasn’t even hungry. Just walking and thought I would go in and look around. It was a little cool out and soup sounded good. I was so surprised. It was sooo good I can’t wait to go back. It’s in an oriental grocery store. 3 different fast foods plus a bakery. There was enough to share but I ate it all!

Best Asian Marker Ever!

Everyone know HMart in Lawrence and Matsua up north, but this loop location is really unique. Pretty new, super clean fresh produce, huge selection of frozen food. Plus all the snacks, spices and other goodies you see in Korea, eg Honey Butter potato chips, nuts etc. Small food hawker stalls also serve fresh and reasonably priced meals. Excellent bakery. FREE parking.

Always tasty food

Usually go here once every 2nd week for lunch or dinner. Plenty of choice for a small place and decent pricing, you usually get plenty of food. Also typically walk into the supermarket to buy some food to cook at home (noodles, gyoza, ...). A lot of variety of produce.

Fantastic market

2 lunches in 2 days

Two of us went for lunch and to explore the wide variety of Asian grocery offerings. We started with lunch since it's always a mistake to shop for groceries if you're hungry. The restaurant /dining area has 3 separate ordering windows. One has Korean BBQ and similar dishes; the middle one has sushi, poke bowls and such; the third has Chinese, Vietnamese and other Asian dishes. The first time, I had the Korean short rib bento box ($17), a large amount of food featuring deliciously fatty marinated meat. My companion had a large bowl of seafood soup ($13) which he thought was only okay, a little bit bland. Afterwards we did some grocery shopping and went home. Arriving home, I discovered I was missing my wool scarf, so called H Mart. The woman who answered the phone asked where I thought I had left it, put me on hold, went looking, found it and said they would keep it for me until I came to pick it up. So back the next day to retrieve it and, why not, had lunch there with a friend. This time she had the short rib bento box which she also loved. I had dumpling soup ($9.99). I thought the dumplings were tasty but the broth was both bland and a little greasy, so not great. I definitely recommend this place because both the food and the mix of patrons are interesting, there's plenty of variety to choose from, the staff is helpful and friendly and it's very clean. And you can buy ingredients to take home.
