Good happy hour all day Sunday

By Dawn F |

This restaurant has happy hour all day on Sunday. They have an extensive menu and fresh pita bread comes with the order. Many vegetarian options as well as a few with meet. The spinach pie was good and the crust was flaky.

Authentic Menu, Eyecatching Decor, Standoffish Service

By AMarieT14 |

Two out of three 'ain't bad,' as they say: this was the first Syrian-cuisine restaurant I’ve experienced, but the menu items looked surprisingly familiar. We tried the mushroom pesto "pizza” (made with naan, just like I make my pizza at home) and also a tasty fattoush salad--that was fresh & delicious. Prices seemed to be in a good range, but the service was unfortunately slow and a tad unfriendly (why? there was no one else in the restaurant but us)! We did appreciate the eye-catching interior décor, and liked our window-seat view of downtown streets & passersby. Making up for our longgg wait, when our food finally arrived, we were pleased that the owner came to visit our table & crack a cheerful joke or two - which was a nice touch...

Really good food for a great price

By Traveladvisor C |

I must admit that I am not very experienced with Lebanese food so I cannot speak to the authenticity of the food but I really enjoyed my meal there. If you make it to this restaurant be sure to try the chicken shwarma, it was really good. I also tried the lamb kabob meal which was ok. The hummus dip with the freshly baked pita was also very good. The happy hour menu is the way to go, you get to try a lot of food for a very inexpensive price. The Turkish coffee with a baklava dessert was a great finish to our meal. The staff was very friendly and curteous and helpful in choosing our meal. The restaurant also has a bar which was empty but then again, we went on a Thursday evening so I didn't expect it to be busy at all.

Pometini, anyone?

By ellegray |

We decided to venture into a cusine that we have little experience. Lebanese! And it was delicious. We ordered cocktails and I spotted the Pometini, it did not disappoint. Pomegranite juice and lemon vodka shaken not stirred and very smooth. Our entree was a meat trio of chicken, beef and lamb nestled on a bed of flavorful rice. Portions were plentiful and prices affordable.

pricey and innatentive

By Zana Kensington |

We stopped by for dinner while walking in the area. The prices are a bit high for the portions, especially compared to other places that serve this type of food. The waitress didn't come back to check on us and we saw her leave out the front door with her purse apparently going home for the evening. We sat there waiting for about 5 minutes before the manager or owner came over to see if we needed anything else and we were told the kitchen was closed. I'm not sure why they didn't bother to tell us when we came in that they were closing soon, as we could have chosen another restaurant to visit since everything else on the block seemed to be open after we left here. We had to go to the counter for a check because it never came to the table. The food was average in taste and I thought it was interesting that they still had a review on their wall from 2006 (probably because no one has written anything like that in a LONG time.

We ate here twice during a week long stay

By TomForsythe |

This casual place has great food. The atmosphere is laid back with a friendly staff. We found enough appealing dishes on their menu to come back twice during our week long stay in Portland. In a town with so many restaurants, this pretty much says it all about how much we enjoyed it.

Very good service at this middle eastern restaurant

By Ido8all |

My mom and I really wanted shawarma so we went to Habibi for some Middle Eastern treats. The service was very warm and welcoming. We took the lamb and beef shawarma as well as the artichoke which were all nice.

Delicious food; welcoming atmosphere

By elizabeth_good |

We were so happy to discover this restaurant on a day trip to Portland. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We were greeted with a beautiful smile, and when the owner came in as we were eating our meal, he too came and greeted us. The food was wonderful! The pita bread that comes with every order was fresh, and the hummus was creamy and delicious. The rest of our meal was equally enjoyable, spiced just right. We are plant-based eaters, so we were happy to find many options for us. There is something for everyone here - vegan, vegetarian, omnivore. No one will go hungry! We will definitely tell our Portland friends about this find.

Great Food - Slow Service

By Grant F |

My wife really wanted Lebanese food so our nephew and his wife took us to Habibi. Overall, we enjoyed the flavours of this authentic mid East eatery. We visited on a busy, hot summer night around 7 pm and were shocked with the slow service and overheated restaurant. Great options for vegetarian and vegan meals. Tasty food but be prepared to wait. If it is hot outside, consider waiting for a table on the patio as it was crazy warm inside.

Disappointing Lebanese type restaurant

By A D |

We thought we would pop in here for lunch and were expecting good Middle Eastern food. The service terrible and we had to wait a long time to be served. When the food came it was pretty awful and I would not recommend going here. They didn't even know, let alone have, some dishes and drinks always available at this type of restaurant.

Great Kabobs

By Traci S |

I love their Kabobs and rice, they come with a wonderful garlic sauce, so good. They also have great hummus, a little more expensive for lunch than I like but they are very good and the owner is a very nice man.

home made fresh Pita

By hotelliz |

I found Habibi on an afternoon stroll, and I must say I went back just 4 days later. The hot fresh pita bread is to die for, and the Lamb Skewer was moist, and seasoned just ever so lightly. I also greatly enjoyed the seasoned grape leaves with beef. If your cruising about downtown, or on the max, this is worth a stop. They serve their happy hour food from 11am -7pm, but the drinks appear to be full price. I tested out the Habibi Martini, and found it cool but with a bit of a bite.

Fast and delicious!!

By Dayv L |

Stopped here for a quick bite with co-workers and was so happy I came back the next day too. Service was quick, polite, and attentive - and the food was amazing!! Lamb was perfectly cooked and not chewy, as sometimes happens. I’ll be back for sure!

Wonderful mezze plates in downtown Portland

By EndlessVoyage |

We were staying at the Paramount and wanted to go to a restaurant not too far away. Habibi was the perfect choice. Very reasonably priced with beautiful mezze plates in both meat and vegetarian. Although I chose the vegetarian, I definitely would do the meat mezze next time. Everyone was happy and the setting was fun. We will definitely return.

Habibi == Fabulous!

By Leslie M |

I just love Habibi in downtown Portland. I have to smile every time I think about it. The people there are wonderful, always so welcoming. And I never tire of the food -- which is a good thing, I guess, because I always order the same thing: tabbouleh, hummus, lentil soup, spanakopitas, plus their classic (strong!) mint tea. (I go there often by myself; this is my comfort lunch.) But when I'm with friends, I make it a point to order much more variety, including the Habibi specialties. I love taking "new" people there who aren't familiar with Middle Eastern food. They are always impressed; the flavors of this specific cuisine are surprising and pleasing all at the same time. Thanks, Habibi -- You brighten my day.

One of our absolute favorites

By some_honest_guy |

Writing this review is long overdue for me. Habibi is a great place to eat, and we must have visited 30 times over the last 5 years. We recommend it to everyone and always bring new friends, who love it too. It is consistent, friendly, and delicious. Happy hour plates are served all day, every day, and can easily comprise a full diverse meal for everyone in your party for a song. The hummus and tabouli are second to none. Great lentil soup. The kafta kabob is awesome. If you like this cuisine, please go there and enjoy some of the best. In speaking with the manager today, Habibi on Pine was recently sold to a new owner who renamed it 'Tangier', kept the menu, AND kept all the solid TA reviews from Habibi, so don't get confused by that and just migrate over to Morrison. Secret tip: Their garlic sauce/paste is served with a few dishes, but ask for a bowl on the side if your meal did not include it. It reminds me of Zankou Chicken's, and is a beautiful compliment to your feast.

Three things - one good, two not

By BaddMonkey |

Stopped quickly for happy hour on a rainy weekday. Nice happy hour specials until 11 PM on food. Had a very good lentil soup. Very disappointed in the baba - thin and bland with none of the characteristic smokiness of baba where the eggplant has had a proper roasting. Pita was a floppy store bought disk. Lots of Lebanese style restaurants have the oven with the fresh warm bread coming out of the oven. Surprised to not encounter that here. Service fine, friendly and attentive.

Lebanese food

By YosSuzanne |

excellent descriptions on the menu, to know what you are ordering if you are unfamiliar. Nice decor. Food was done well and arrived swiftly. Only hitch was the desplayed wine bottle on the table was removed after we ordered other beverages before I could finish reading the label. I'm sure they'd have brought it back if I asked, but I didn't bother. The baklava for dessert was very tasty.

Good, but not great

By Pam S |

As others experienced, service is not great, the food was good, but not great. I ordered one of the Mezza plates and the chicken was grisly, but everything else was good. After bringing the food, the waitress never came back to my table until I flagged her down for my check. I went early, so only a few tables were occupied. This restaurant was very convenient to where I was staying, but I don't think I would go there again.

Not Impressed

By LillyBee |

Went in for lunch. Not impressed by the food or service. Better off paying less for the same lamb skewers etc at the food trucks down the street. Overpriced for what you get. Falafel was stone cold and a huge disappointment. Will not return.

Valentine's Day dinner

By cellofool |

Business trip, needed a place to eat close to the Hilton and found this little gem open. Service was a bit slow (Valentine's day crowd). We were seated near the window with a light above us that flickered erractically. Temp inside was cool enough I needed to keep my coat on. I love Lebanese food. This was OK.

Nice atmosphere, good food

By Gwen L |

We were here a few years ago on a visit and had good memories of it, so made sure to get back on this trip. It did not disappoint. I loved the veggie mezza platter and my husband had beef schwarma which he said was excellent. We'll be back.

A good one.

By 50Shadez |

Small and casual restaurant. It is self-served. You order at the cashier and get a beeper to pick up the food. The cashier is very attentive, and he brings the food to your table. The food tasted good and fresh, and it is definitely a good restaurant for the money. Vegan-friendly options

Average food and service

By Gary S |

We started with some humus and pita bread. The pita was fresh and the humus had good flavor. We both had kabobs which were dry and didn't have much flavor. We both substituted the tabuli for the house salad, which was a good choice except for being salty. The service was spotty; the table next left with out ordering because of the service issues.

Fantastic Lebanese Food

By Alan J |

One of my favorite places to eat in Portland. The service was excellent and the food amazing. Their hummus is some of the best outside of the Middle East. Will definitely keep coming back each time I'm in Portland!

Good Food and Lebanese Variety

By ITravelMontana |

Great hummus. The Habibi Mezza platter had good variety. They also have Lebanese beer. Fast service and friendly staff.

Awful food!

By Hirahasan2015 |

I just entered this place because the door had the trip-advisor 2015 excellence certificate... Those $16 that I spent here hurt me more than anything in a long time... I could hardly eat one fourth of the dish... The food was stale, tasteless and even looked hideous... The coke was flat... I wonder how have people given them such great reviews!

Nice Mediterranean food and warm ambience

By Poushy |

The food was very good. We ordered shawarma with rice and falafel, and a kebab. The food was fresh and the rates are reasonable. The owner is very amicable. We had a good time. The ambiance is very casual and cafe like. We sat and chatted for a while, there was no rush to eat, especially as it was a weekend.

Loved it

By ColoradoVirginia |

Wonderful middle eastern food, fresh, lots of mezzas (plate with small portions of different foods). They have delicious warm pita served with your meal. An excellent choice.

The Real Deal

By William S |

Healthy food! Delicious. Not expansive. The pitas are to die for. You will not be disappointed. Local Middle easterners eat there! Don’t forget the rice pudding

Get your protein here

By larrybodine |

I was up for protein tonight, and found it at Habibi, a little family-owned place that serves chicken shish-ke-bab, and a meat platter that my wife got. They came nicely spiced, although grilled bone dry. We sat at a sidewalk table, which was delightful on a summer evening. The young waitress was attentive and nice. Dinner for 2 with tip was $31 (no alcohol). Note: avoid the bar which collects loud, raucous boozehounds.

Nice place good food

By foundloveinpdx |

Service was almost too fast, but the quality of the food was very good. Great falafel, but you better eat the pita fast, since it's homemade and becomes brittle as it cools. Good value.

Nice Lebaniese cuisine

By Jonathan L |

The usual items found on the mid-eastern/Lebanese menu. Friendly service, pleasant room and good location downtown.

Awesome food great service

By gadireg K |

Had the vegetarian mezza, really good. Everyone in our group loved their food. Mazen is super friendly and offers great service and fantastic value. Highly recommended.

Very good but not excellent.

By mkhUK |

The food was very good, the warm pita were lovely and my artichoke stew delicious. But no deserts available at all! and people standing around chatting with arms crossed rather than taking my order means that this place lost two stars.

A taste of Syrian-Lebanese Food

By RLD808 |

This was a really enjoyable experience with well prepared food, flavors, and service. The restaurant is very cozy, but has plenty of seating. Decorated with lots of flare reflecting the food and culture of the restaurant theme and it's cuisine. We started with the lamb and lentil soup which was rich and hearty. The lentil soup by it's self was full of great flavor, but when topped with the bits of lamb shawarma, it really took a whole new dimension of amazingness. Their tabouli salad was freshly prepared and bursting with flavors like it should be. Sometimes you get this dish and it has been sitting around to long or the ingredients are not the freshest, but everything was perfect with this tabouli salad. For mains, the kafta casserole is another flavor bombshell that will delight your taste buds. The flavorful meatballs along with the rich tomato sauce rocks it with the saffron rice that it comes with. Of course the chicken kabab was a tasty and meaty great choice that had the charred grilled flavors from the fire it was cooked over. Prices were not bad and selection was fairly extensive to satisfy just about every flavor and portion mood. The service was friendly and attentive, so all in all, this was a very good experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to others.

Decent food; but don't go for the service or the consistency

By Kathy W |

We ate at Habibi three times on a recent trip to Portland. That says something about the food: depending on what you order, it can be great. However, the service is terrible, or was for us. The servers were rude, inattentive and dismissive and it totally spoiled our experience. We will not make the mistake of returning. The first time we ate there was the best. We ordered the vegan mezzo, and it was delicious. The service was slow, bad, and rude, but the food was good enough that we went back. Ironically, we were recognized the second time we came in, but that seemed in fact to count against us. We were treated just as poorly on round two. Go figure. But we had great baba ghannouj. After returning to Portland several days later, we decided to try one more time. The service this time was absolutely the worst. The inconsistency of the food was also a huge issue. We had ordered the vegan mezza the first day we ate there and because it was so good we ordered it again. We got a bizarre plate that did not have tatziki; spinach pie; zattor pizza; baba ghannouj; or grape leaves. (Read the menu on line to see that these are all part of this dish). Instead we got some tasteless rice and lentils, and an unappetizing chick pea dish with some hummus and a falafel. We politely inquired about our order, and were told in no uncertain terms that this was the "vegan mezzo." The hummus is not good here: do they not understand the importance of garlic and lemon in hummus? The falafel is consistently good. However, for us: long story short: NEVER AGAIN. Our advice: think twice.

Great food amazing price wonderful family owners

By 52blinky |

Love Mediterranean food and this nice little find is the best! Family owned warm and comfortable. Best tabouli ever tasted, nice lamb shmarma and really tasty humans with warm flatbread! It's really worth checking out!!

Home style food that puts the expensive tourist traps nearby to shame

By Thor4816 |

We couldn’t get into any of the restaurants in the area because for some reason they all close in the afternoon. We hopped in by chance (and hunger) and we were not disappointed. I ordered the kafta and my girlfriend got the lamb shank. They were so good we swapped dishes! The descriptions of the dishes do not really tell you exactly what’s in it, but rest assured whatever you order, it will be absolutely delicious. We went out wanting southern cooking, but by divine intervention were directed to what we needed - Lebanese soul food.

GREAT food. Nice people!

By thigrig |

Had lunch here the other day with my family. it was a rare HOT day in Portland and my kids were a little worse for the wear, but the owner and servers were just so nice. The kids ordered pretty "traditional" kid things (pasta and cheese pizza), but my husband and I had vegetarian options--I had a falafel and my husband had some kind of sampler plate. Everything was delicious. The hummus and pita are out of this world--the pita is served right out of the oven and it the best I've had. The service was kind of uneven (the food arrived at different times), but I was not expecting four-star dining. We will be back.

Good middle East restaurant

By Hsin C |

It is nice to see there are different restaurants in Portland city center. I visited this restaurant twice and I learned "Habibi" means "lover" or "sweet heart". The food wss great. The bread was warm. I went their with my Taiwanese and Turkish friends. They were happy too. One of the chef's recommended course was great (sorry. I don't remember the name).

I Love Lebanese Food...

By CindiBHuntsville_AL |

...but it's not easy to find really good Lebanese food. I did in Portland, though, at Habibi (which means "darling" in Arabic). Very good food, prepared with fresh ingredients, well seasoned. I give it the tabouli test I give all Arabic restaurants, and the tabouli at Habibi is about the best I've eaten "out" in many, many years. Service was also excellent, and they serve two different Lebanese beers, as well as have a full bar.

Excellent Syrian Food

By foodandducklover |

All of the food was wonderful and very authentic including tabbouleh salad, hummus, falafel, seasoning on the kabobs. Service was a bit slow, but worth the wait.

Amazing Food! One of my new favorites in Portland!

By Matrixd5 |

The food was incredible at this place! Falafel, tabouli, Majadras, all excellent! Ended up going to this place a few times on my trip to Portland. The service is hit or miss so I can see how other people had issues with that. Our first trip was amazing service, second pretty good, and third was sufficient but not great. The food was excellent and would definitely recommend it. Although, we did try one of the mini pizzas to try something off the happy hour menu and that certainly wasn't my favorite but everything else truly was great.

Very tasty!

By bobster30 |

I always love lamb dish and the food in Habibi is excellent. I ordered a lamb shawamar with hummus and my boyfriend ordered a lamb shank. Both of them were very tasty. And the food comes in a relatively large portion as well. Would be surprised to find that amount of food with that superb quality yet costs just average. However, having said that, I did find the service is a bit odd there. We came in like 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it was rather empty there. The girl who brought us drinks tried to take entree order for us. When I just started with one dish, the original waitress who has been serving our table came, and I then turned to her and started all over again. But in the end, it turned out that they brought us two exactly same dish that I told both girls. I think it was quite a simple situation but maybe the girls were confused. Anyway, the food was still excellent there.

Great Food & Value in the city

By Jolevthal45@gmail.com |

We went for dinner after walking out of a nearby restaurant that was too limited for out taste. Our meals were excellent, served hot and reasonably fast. Since the restaurant was busy and we lacked reservations, we were very pleased with Habibi. The waiters are Lebanese so it might help to have some familiarity with Med food to ease the potential communication problems.

Great Middle Eastern Food!

By MaineGuy777 |

What a wonderful restaurant, which features Syrian-Lebanese food! We had the vegetarian mezza plate ($12.95), loaded with great samples of hummus, spanakopita, baba ghannouj, stuffed grape leaves, seasoned pita, tabouli, falafel, and tzatziki! Add to that a delectable lentil chicken soup ($4.95), terrific cabbage rolls ($3.75), and very good skewered lamb ($4.95), and we had one of our best meals ever! And the service was excellent, as well!

Amazing food, poor service

By hjordislakota |

We ate here twice during our recent trip to Portland. The first time for lunch was great. We all had the vegan mezza. A few days later we returned for dinner. The meals were great, once we got them. It took forever to get service, but it was worth it. Great food and atmosphere, just be patient!

Mid afternoon light lunch

By Mary K |

My friend and I took a break from sightseeing and shopping on a weekend in downtown Portland at the Habibi Restaurant on Morrison. We saw that happy hour was all day--so we had a glass of wine and some happy hour size food plates--lamb soup and vegetable kabobs. This was perfect for a mid afternoon snack. We were looking for a healthier alternative to pub food without breaking the bank. The food was very tasty and the service was good. We sat next to the window, The cost was reasonable. There was a birthday party at the restaurant but we still had good service. I want to return for dinner next time I visit Portland.

Looking for the best falafel

By pattieraz |

Was very good, but not the best. The warm fresh made pita was a plus. Should add some more veggies and a dash of hummus.

A Great Find Worth The Visit

By Fleetwood2012 |

We were so happy we tried Habibi, a restaurant featuring Lebanese and Middle Eastern food.. The service was friendly and the food was fab. Great cocktails like the Mistress are a must. A simple salad featuring fresh greens, tomato, onions and dressing was the light start we needed. Then came hot fresh pita bread, rice with skewers of perfectly prepared chicken, and a plate with fresh tabouleh, hummus, baba gahnoush, grape leaves and tender lamb skewers. Baklava dessert was to die for (not to syrupy) just the right finish or this tasty meal. Give Habibi a try!

Excellent food and extremely friendly staff

By Wael A |

We had a great food and drinks and really the atmosphere was great accompanying with the friendly staff. This was my 3rd visit to this restaurant and i'll go there everytime I visit Portland

Fascinating lunch

By AZMick |

The owners of this small restaurant are from Syria and our waiter was from Iraq. I had wonderful discussions with each. The salad I had was as tasty as any I have had in the Middle East and my son's shwarma was delicious. The service was warm and efficient, matching the food. I have tried to replicate the flavors of my salad in my own kitchen, to no avail. I may have to return to Portland for another taste test!

Best baba ganoush ever

By spiralwizard |

Been here in the slow afternoon hours, wasnt the friendliest service but the food is awesome and very authentic! There is a selection of vegan, vegetarian and carnivorian dishes & you'll get glutenfree bread if needed. Very fresh, fast & delicious

Habibi is my new addiction...!!

By Peter E |

As a flight attendant, I travel all across North America and get to taste various cuisines in many cities. Two nights a go, we had a layover in Portland and I asked the front desk of our hotel where they would go and eat and all three all together said...HABIBI. I asked them about it and they said it was a Syrian/Lebanese cuisine, so being Greek I was instantly intrigued to taste the magical flavours of the middle east. The flight attendant I was with was equally as excited so we decided this was going to be the place. The hotel dropped us off at the front door and we ventured in. Once we entered, the smell of the restaurant made us even more hungry. Travelling all day, we just wanted to sit down and indulge. We were seated at a table by the window, it was perfect. The server came by and introduced himself, and asked if we wanted something to drink. We ordered non alcoholic beverages and when he returned, we mentioned that we were from Canada and here for the night. He started about Canada and how he was going to visit next month, going to Montreal, and then we asked if he spoke French, he said yes and my friend and him had a great conversation. Great energy in this restaurant and what caught my eye was the cover page of the menu where the owner acknowledged his parents for giving him, confidence, courage and wisdom and thanking them for raising him right. Our hearts melted at that point because what we read and what we witnessed mirrored those sentiments. The kindest people. We ordered a Babaganoush to start as we both love it and I usually order it wherever I go. It came out minutes later with warm pita bread. We tasted this dip and looked at each other as if to say, we came to the right place. We then discovered an appy page in the back with smaller plates so we decided to order a few different items from Kofta to Lentil & Rice to Grape Leaves, Cabbage Rolls and a variety of skewers. We spent minimal money & ate like Kings. Overall, without a doubt in the years of travel, this is now my top pick for layover restaurants. I've notified our company to let other flight attendants know about this place. At the end we called our shuttle and they were on their way. We waited outside to get some fresh air and the restaurant closed soon after. The owner and staff came outside and chatted some more with us and he asked us if we needed a ride...wow so sweet, this is service!! We graciously declined as the shuttle van was just pulling up. We both decided we're going to do a road trip to Portland in the very near future to visit this place where we can order some wine and spend more time. I would without a doubt recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves quality Middle Easter fare. Also, the interior is like you've travelled to Lebanon, the paint job, the art and the way the room flowed, it was just simple yet elegant. Good job to this family for sharing their traditions, their food and their culture...we both decided we needed to take time out and write about this here...go try it out you won't be disappointed...tell them the Canadian Flight Attendants sent you...you never know, you might get offered a ride home...haha

Excellent hummus!!

By Laura |

This was recommended by our hotel. The hummus was delicious. The service was good. The beer choices were different and international, which we like. We enjoyed the food. The prices were fair. We'd try it again.

Excellent Lebanese Food in downtown

By Blackmtn R |

Stopped in here on our way back from Powell's bookstore to view their menu. Spoke with Mazen, the owner. After looking over their selection of food decided that we would come back at dinner time, which we did. When we returned about 6PM we were greeted like family by Mazen and quickly seated. It appears that it's all family here though we didn't discover who was in the kitchen. We started with some items from their "Happy hour" menu, which is served all day. Large choice of appetizers at only $2.99, We ordered the Baba Ghannouj and a new dish for us Lebney. Both very tasty. For an entree I got the lamb kabob and my wife, the chicken kabob, again excellent. Being from Chicago, with the largest Greek population outside of Athens, we've had wide exposure to foods from the Mediterranean. We weren't disappointed by either the selection or quality of the meal we received. Highly recommend you give this restaurant a try if you enjoy Mediterranean food.

Excellent Lebanese Food!

By hstriplin |

This place has a great menu selection from meat dishes to Vegan. The price is very reasonable and food is as good as any mede by the Lebanese side of my family. Well worth a try. If you're not sure what you want, I would recommend the mezza plate. It comes with a great assortment of food and you can order a carnivore or herbivore version.

Excellent Mediterranean Fare

By C2_RS |

The pita (made fresh ?), Falafels, salad, hummus, tabbouleh and eggplant dip were excellent! My son had the meat platter with kabob and chicken which he said was good too

Mixed Grill is the best!

By Janice D.G. |

My husband and I enjoyed the Mixed Grill for 2 platter we had to celebrate my birthday. The grilled lamb, chicken, shrimp and beef were delicious. The rice pilaf was flavorful and fluffy. The sides of hummus, garlic aioli and pickled cabbage were also delicious. I had the knefe for dessert which I had never had before and it was also delicious. A wonderful birthday treat.

Habibi Habadi

By toadsoup |

Wanted to try the Lebanese restaurant on 2nd street across from Mother's Bistro, but decided on Habibi's on Morrison since we were in the area. We waited for 10 minutes before a young waitress came to take our order: meat combo (lamb, chicken, and a ground beef kabob on "flavored" rice). Before our drinks even came, the waitress plops down a plate of lukewarm, rubbery and chewy miniscule strands of chicken and lamb, along with an overdone ground beef kabob, over a stingy portion of flavorless rice with a smidgeon of sauce, leading us to believe that our order was pre-cooked and/or sitting around for a good amount of time before us saps ordered it. According to the menu, pita bread was to accompany all meals, but we received none. When asked, the waitress said that any dish w/rice didn't get the bread (really? Other than sandwiches and pizza, what dishes don't come with rice?). She said all we had to do was just ask and she'd bring us some. Again, with the snippy, arrogant attitude. What she brought was a giant piece of pita that looked and tasted as if it came straight from a plastic bag (not a nice heated, buttery and crispy morsel I received at other mid-Eastern restaurants). Also, there was an odd smell in our corner of the restaurant and it wasn't us, I can assure you. Maybe this Habibi restaurant just had a bad night, but it only takes one night of sub-par service and food to sour us on this restaurant. Thank goodness we had great food and service at other Portland restaurants.

Great Food, and friendly owner and staff

By Mamashu |

This is our favorite restaurant in downtown Portland. If we are downtown, it's lunch or dinner at Habibi. Our favorites on the menu are the chicken and beef schwarma. It is served either over rice, or half rice, half hummus. Servings are generous, and with a salad, very satisfying. My grandson loves their chicken schwarma, and at 9 will consume an adult dinner portion--even though he says he doesn't like chicken. The owner often stops by the table to chat, and the staff is friendly and competent. We've been coming here for years, and hopefully will continue to do so. The food trucks are only a block away, but I would much prefer to eat my lunch listening to nice music, with good servers, and nice surroundings.

Mmm...my mouth is still watering

By A W |

We found Habibi Restaurant walking around as we looked to find the Maxx Blue line downtown. The atmosphere was relaxed, we felt welcomed and well attended. And the food was delicious and big portions. Nice end to a great vacation.

Good Late night dinner

Just went for a stroll and found this place by accident. Good food. Typical middle east menu. Well prepared. Service a bit slow but worth it for the food.

Excellent, inexpensive Lebanese-Syrian food

I'm almost embarrassed to describe a "find" that has been right there for years. Unassuming storefront on a row of restaurants: whether you live in or are visiting Portland, put this on your dining list. Everything about the place says "Welcome." Warm, casual atmosphere (not easy in a downtown strip), friendly, family-run business, with something for everyone. If it doesn't naturally contain wheat (e.g., pita and tabouli), everything is gluten-free, with ample vegetarian and vegan options. Wines from across the Middle East add to any meal, and it's happy hour all day. We enjoyed excellent hummus, falafel mezza, and lamb shawarma, and there were plenty of other options. Don't let the low prices fool you: really good food. More than that was the sense that, even though it was our first time there, we were dropping by for a meal with friends. Good place for a quick lunch, but an even better place for a slow lunch.

Uneven results

By Chip G |

We were quite happy with our meal (mezza) on February 15, so we ordered through prime now (Amazon) two weeks later. We were disappointed that portions were much smaller (the salad in particular). We will not be ordering through Amazon again, and we may not visit the restaurant again.

great find!

Enjoyed a delicious meal...greek salad, meat meza plate and a side of fluffy rice. Round pita bread was freshly made. Wonderful dinner..will return when I am in Portland again!

Habibi on Pine Street

By HanSolo1955 |

My girlfriend and I went to the Pine St. Habibi restaurant for lunch today using a Living Social voucher. We ordered a vegetarian mezza platter and 2 house salads from their HH menu. The food was all right, but the pita bread was slightly undercooked. Although we probably had the best seat in the house, by the window and looking out into Pine Street on a cloudy afternoon, we did not care for the ambiance. The service was good at Habibi, but we probably will not return because the food was not that impressive and the noise level a little too high for our taste.

great downtown place to pop in for lunch or dinner

By Donna H |

Have eaten here multiple times for dinner and lunch. Many items are great for sharing with a group. Super nice owner, who is accomodating.

Pleasant Surprise

Broiled Scallops, Green Mixed Salad, Delicious Yogurt Dip, Rice Pudding which I took back to Hotel. Friendly / Quick Service

Tasty dishes and so fresh!

By schellyrae |

We loved the falafel here--all chickpeas, no other type of flour, so the flavor is amazing. The eggplant and artichoke casseroles were very fresh, full of flavor and we left very satisfied, without that too-full feeling.

Great service

By James P |

I went for lunch yesterday with a Groupon, the staff was awesome. Sometimes when you use a Groupon it seems like you are treated like a second class customer, yesterday they treated me and my friend like royalty. The food was perfect and I will be king back.

Yummy food, great service!

By abqcat |

Three of us had a very late lunch at Habibi. The food was excellent and portions generous. We split two platters and had plenty of food for three people. Service was very attentive but not overly so. Would definitely go back!

Not bad, not great

By Tom M |

The food is good, and one can make a decent meal from the happy hour menu, although it's more a small plate than a happy hour menu. It comes pretty quickly, too. But there's nothing to distinguish it from the food at another decent Middle Eastern restaurant. The cocktail they call "the Mistress" is not bad either, worth a try if you like whiskey cocktails. And it eased my cold symptoms. The young woman who took our order could get a bit of a spark and more pleasant attitude; and she could work at getting orders right. The food wasn't slow, but she certainly was. The restaurant has a clean and upscale look to it, very urban and modern, until one visits the sole restroom - that's like stepping into an old tavern restroom. Very funky in the wrong way. I'd go back if I was in the mood for that cuisine and happened to be on that block.

Fine mezze plates

By dickanddoug |

Flavorful Lebanese food, good value. I particularly enjoyed the mezzo plate, lots of good tastes at lunch.

Nice, family-owned Lebanese neighborhood spot

By TonyHitch |

We love small plates and a bunch of traditional Lebanese favorites are served by "poppa" in this family place. Just around the block from the Sentinel Hotel, it is a convenient lunch and dinner spot in this popular West End neighborhood. We had babagannoj, tatziki, a plate-size pita bread, lamb kabobs and sauteed lamb over spaghetti (Lebanese-Italian fusion!). Nice conversation with the owner who dedicates the restaurant to his parents and who is joined by his sons in the kitchen. Nothing remarkable among the offerings but all reliable. Baklava was the only minor disappointment...rather dry and needed honey and rose water.

Fantastic!

By Molly G |

I got the meat mezze plate and I was not disappointed! The shwarma and the tabouli were probably my favorite parts, but that plate was practically licked clean by the time I left! I think my server was one of the owners - he was so friendly and fun to talk to. Also, my meal came out of the kitchen at lightning speed, even though they were busy with the lunch crowd, so it would be a great place to pop by for a quick meal, although you'll want to linger over the delicious food and charming atmosphere. Will definitely be going back next time I'm in Portland.

Delicious food.

By Angela S |

Great food..everything we ordered was delicious, the portions were huge, and the hummus was worth the stop all by itself.

Very good

By Kyler R |

I had the chicken kabob with rice and a salad, loved it! I also tried the humans plate and was quite pleased. With all the options in Portland, Habibi is a good one. Be sure to show up before 12 to beat the lunch rush.

Delicious

By NaturalOlive |

Love to eat at this restaurant every time I stop in Portland. The service is great, staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and they give you large portions! Great for vegetarians, as they have many options. I enjoy sitting outside on the sidewalk, taking in the views and atmosphere of down town.

A delicious gem

By p_travels342 |

Beautiful middle eastern food with a huge serving. Definitely try the vegetarian mezza if you want a full, huge meal where you can try different varieties of the food.

Wonderful Mezza, super friendly service

By dragonflytw65 |

We sat outside and ordered the Vegetarian Mezza and the Majadra. Everything was wonderful on the Mezza plate. The Majadra was good, but I ordered it hoping for more of a spiced flavor based on the description. The flavor was a bit bland, but the caramelized onions on top were a nice touch and added a lot of flavor. We also had the Ninkazi Total Domination Draft IPA. It was excellent and lived up to its name. The service was super friendly.

Taste and a great experience

By Jaime U |

Very friendly staff. Walked in and asked, how are you and I think it was the manager in a very loud and exited voice said "awesome". Based on the vibe and the welcome I was sure the food would be just as great. Loved the habibi mezza got to try a little variety. Great place

Fresh, delicious Lebanese food

By CAChris13 |

What a great find in the heart of downtown Portland...home-like Lebanese cooking with great taste! The food all tasted so fresh from the humus that was creamy and slightly drizzled with oil, and the fresh feta salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and olives to main courses of kebabs and falafel...all delicious. Served by such friendly people and a great atmosphere- restaurant with several tables on one side, and full, beautiful bar with interesting lighting and decor on the other. Habibi is a term of endearment- and this restaurant is a sweetheart.

Pleasant Place to Eat

By TravelBugTampaFL |

This restaurant was around the corner from our hotel and it had a lot of people eating there. My husband and I were not very hungry and the waitress suggested a plate to share. They even explained what we were eating and checked back with us to see how we were enjoying the food. It was very good. This is a very pleasant family owned place,

Great place to eat!

By Jessi S |

The owners want to share their culture and welcome everyone. The food was delicious and atmosphere was enjoyable. I will definitely be going back!

Good food, slow service

By asugargreen |

This restaurant was a recommendation from our hotel. We enjoyed the food. They have an extensive selection of meals, and many are vegan and vegetarian. I tried the vegetarian variety plate and my husband tried the lamb kabob. The food was rather healthy. His meat was a little on the dry side, but it was ok. Our only complaint was that we sat there for 15 minutes in a 1/4 full restaurant to have our drink orders taken and even longer for our food order to be taken. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Also, our drinks seemed watered down. But that could have been the excess of ice and the heat outside.

Good flavor

By mach911 |

I had the lamb kabob which wasnt really a kabob. It was 3 pieces on a stick. A kabob, I thought should have slices of vegetables included. Anyway, the flavor of the meat was good and they gave you a entire plate of rice to help fill you up. I had the all day happy hour side humus also which balanced out the 2 tiny skewers of lamb.

Friendly, yummy place

By happytravellerNy |

Foot sore and hungry after a day being a tourist in Portland, I stopped by for lunch at an outdoor table. Very good! Delicious vegetarian mezze and Lebanese wine. And the staff were loving, caring and friendly. It's also a great value.

Good food

By ALookingbill |

We've been to Habibi quite a few times. The food is tasty and the hummus is excellent. For picky eaters who may not want to try new things, they have pizza and calzones. The fun thing about Lebanese food is that it has lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. Eat here soon!

Great Food, extremely friendly staff, beuatiful restaurant

By Mary A |

We had a great time. Loved the food. Appreciated the great service. Want to go again next time we're in portland

Fantastic, every time.

By vpsdudley |

Always great service and good food. The restaurant has a nice homey feel with several window tables. They also have outdoor seating for sunny days. My favorite dish is the chicken salad. The pita bread and hummus is also very good, as is the tatziki. Most of the recipes were handed down from the owner's family. Great Lebanese fare. One of my regular eateries downtown.

Very Tasty Very Nice People

By Teeplepeople |

Good food, good service, great Lebanese/ Mediterranean food. When you have exhausted your taste buds with Asian, American, or Italian cuisines, this is a great alternative that is affordable and delicious.

Well prepared food, good prices, pleasant atmosphere

By Kate R |

This is one of the best mid-priced places we have eaten in Portland so far. We had a delicious lentil soup, my husband had a great veggie dish and I had an artichoke and lamb casserole. I think the baklava was the best I've had --- the pastry was flaky and moist and the filling tasty. The food was uniformly well prepared, the service very good, both relaxed and prompt. It was a pleasant atmosphere quiet enough for a good conversation. The location is convenient to a lot of downtown places we go and right on the MAX line so we will be back often. Oh, and we liked the wine and got there early enough (before 5) to get it for a good price.

Great food and good service

By physicsmom04 |

A treat to find Habibi this weekend - we had a delicious lunch of lamb shwarma lentil soup and sfiha (meat pie). Hummus was freshly made and great, pita still warm from the fryer. Add in two Turkish coffees, served in cool brass pitchers - and all for $25. Admittedly, not 100% authentic, but very tasty food - staff very friendly and answered our questions knowledgeably. A recommended spot!

Great surprise

By Groupworker |

Amazing middle-eastern food. The hummus, baba ganoush, pita bread, falafel and more were perfect. The lentil soup was ridiculously good - we all thought it was one of the best soups we've ever had. Highly recommend for a casual, inexpensive, fun and truly delicious meal.

Amazing Food

By Sheri G |

With a family of 5, it is difficult to find a restaurant that we all like. Habibi, however, is one that all of us LOVE. The service is typically slow, but the food is delicious. Surprisingly, their version of pizza is spectacular.

Portland Trip

By WilltravelSeattle_WA |

Didn't get to do as much as we would have liked while visiting - we would love to go back and visit many of the close by attractions.

Very reasonably priced

By Karol M |

Habibi is a very reasonably priced Middle Eastern restaurant with an extensive menu. I love hummus, but thought theirs needed more lemon, which is an easy fix. I had the chicken shawarma sandwich, which was good. The tzaziki (sp?) sauce was very tasty.

Friendly atmosphere

By Ultimate Cat |

Even with competition from local food trucks the food at Habibi holds its own. We ordered the Mezze and the portion was generous and the pita fresh and hot. This is a great example of how the gentleman running the place makes a huge difference to the ambience with a warm smile and chats with everyone demonstrating how hospitality is the hallmark of Syrian and Lebanese dining (as well as the delicious fresh ingredients).

Great Lenanese food in downtown Portland, OR

By William P |

Feel for Shish-Ka-Bob, Falafal, Pita bread? Or shopping in Portland? Take a break at Habibi's! Fresh, hot Pita bread. Awesome Tabouli & hummus. You get the picture. You come away full and ready to resume your shopping. You can't go wrong with Habibi's !!!!

Lovely little place!

By Zahava |

We chanced upon this restaurant in a popular but quiet area. Srrvice and food were both quite good. My husgband and i had the hummus and if you are a garlic lover (which we are!), this is the bomb! The owner is very friendly and comes over to talk to you-very charming! Prices are very reasonable-service is just right! Thank you, Habibi (which means, "beloved.")

Decent with outdoor seating

By Mary Jean C |

Had lunch here while in Portland for a meeting. Decent lebanese fare. Decent falafel and tzatziki. Hummus so-so. Service not the friendliest. There are many mid-eastern restaurants in this area to choose from so wouldn't rate this at the top but good if you are in a hurry.

Delicious Lebanese Cuisine

By Aussum |

We just happened upon Habibi when looking for a place for lunch. It was pretty last, about 3 PM, and walked by and it looked appealing. They had a small plate menu which was perfect. We had several selections from this menu and all were delicious. It was the best hummus ever. The service was also very friendly.

Tasty falafel, otherwise underwhelming

By _jakevanwinkle |

My wife and I were in the area and stopped in for some dinner. She was craving falafel and that dictated the choice of dining. We started with tzatziki appetizer with bread. The bread was fresh and tasted wonderful and the sauce was good as well. She ordered the falafel sandwich and was blown away by the quality of the falafel. I tried a piece and loved it. My beef shawarma was truly underwhelming though. Small tough pieces of beef on an otherwise poorly spiced bed of rice. Nothing to write home about - and certainly a dish to avoid. Maybe the chicken or lamb would have been a better choice for the meat - not much can redeem the rice. The ambiance was nice and quiet for a Friday night and the inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated. The bathrooms left much to be desired though and the MAX line shook our seats and interrupted conversation whenever it passed by.

Fantastic

By Sheri G |

We came upon this restaurant during one of our Portland visits. All of the other restaurants were full. Boy did we get lucky. Now we visit every time we are in Portland. My kids love their take on Pizza.

Great Food

Used trip advisor to find this sweet spot for lunch in Portland Oregon - many vegan choices. All the food was fresh and made with care. Amazing, new and tasty

Great Price and Portions!

By Michelle S |

Every time I visit Portland I make a point to stop in here. Their food is fresh, hot, plentiful and DELICIOUS! They have a wide variety of dietary options including Vegan. Their lentil soup is a favorite. They have a Happy Hour Menu that offers a wide variety of tastes for great prices and large portions. Its a must in Portland!

Lamb Kebabs <3

By Sarah A |

Basically nice atmosphere. Non-authentic shawerma, but amaaazing lamb kebabs. My friends tried the kunafa, it was average by an Arab's standard

My mouth is watering while writing this review.

By OPTIPOP |

Three of us enjoyed everything we ordered. From the martini, to the humus, the Tatziki, the veggie mezza to the chicken kabab, we were not disappointed. Casual setting, attentive staff and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Great service, very salty meal. A few hits.

By Steve C |

Stopped in for dinner. Wait staff was very friendly and we were seated quickly. Family run restaurant. We had the cabbage rolls (excellent), lentil spinach soup (salty), and the Vegetarian Mezza Plate. The Mezza plate was hit-and-miss. The Tabouli Salad was so salty it could not be eaten (they must have salted it twice by mistake). The hummus and flat bread tasted like a store-bought commodity items. The spinach pie, zattar pizza, and baba ghannouj were good. The grape leaves and falafel were excellent.

Not sure what all the buzz is about.

By RicV |

My wife recommended Habibi because she had dined there before with friends. Thinking she has pretty good taste we decided to try it on my birthday. In my opinion the food was not that great. I had the artichoke casserole which tasted like canned artichokes dropped in a bowl of tomato sauce. It was very bland, not very filling, and definitely not what I would consider a casserole. The portions were small and the food did not come out together. My wife and daughter got their food five minutes after mine. For three of us we were given two pieces of pita. Luckily I wasn't real hungry. I can't speak to my wife and daughter's food, but they seemed to enjoy it. The service wasn't that great. We never saw the waitress after the food was delivered, had to ask for the bill, and then had to pay the bill at the bar because nobody came to pick it up. I noticed several other folks doing the same. The atmosphere was very nice, especially the bar area. I've definitely had a lot better Lebanese food so I think I'll pass on going to Habibi again.

Simply really good food

By Anna R |

We had a craving for Middle Eastern food and found this restaurant downtown. It has a very simple decor and the servers, while perhaps not polished, are very efficient. My friend had a lentil soup and I had the artichoke stew, which was in a wonderful spicy tomato sauce. I had chicken added, and we shared the huge pita that came with it. It was hard to choose what to eat - all very appetizing. Prices were reasonable too.

Habibi 2 on Pine St BEAUTIFUL

By Year-of-Dragon |

This family runs two excellent lebanese restaurants. Habibi 2 is on Pine bet 1st and 2nd. Besides the menu, what drew us in was the beautiful interior. The bar has chic 60s style bubble chandeliers and gorgeous color combos. And turquoise grass tiki style umbrellas for the tables outside. Happy Hour all day too-- not too shabby! The food was fabulous: tangy, spicy and homemade. We had tabouli, stuffed vegetarian grape leaves, and chicken kebab. And the Habibi Martini w/cucumber slices, muddled mint, and fresh lemon juice sooooo REFRESHING, especially on a warm summer day. We also liked our server, Deanna, who is part of the owner's family. Very friendly and attentive. Too bad they were out of baklava that night. I saved room for it! Next time!

Really delicious

By Diana F |

We had a long day of delayed flights on trip to Portland. We arrived at our hotel about 7:30 pm, and we were very hungry. My husband didn't feel well, so I ventured out of our hotel in search of a vegetarian meal. Just around the corner was Habibi Restaurant. I sat at a table outside and ordered baba ganoush and spinach lentil soup. The baba ganoush was creamy and smokey....really sublime....the soup was wonderful and the bread freshly baked. I had a martini as well, but the ice had melted into it. It was a very warm day so I forgave that considering the long day we had experienced. The wait staff was very attentive. I wanted to take my husband back for dinner the next day, but we didn't get a chance to visit again. I would recommend Habibi Restaurant, and I will visit again when in Portland.

Always a fantastic experience. Owners are really nice!

By Josh P |

Every single time we eat here, we have a fantastic experience. The owners are really nice, the staff is friendly. Service may be a little slow, but we're OK with that, it gives us time to talk and enjoy our evening, not being rushed out of the place. We love the place so much that we had Habibi make all of the food for a big party we held for our housewarming, everyone loved the taste and quality of it. We will always go back.

A hidden treasure on Morrison Street

By Peggy B |

Habibi is excellent Middle Eastern food. You are greeted by a charming young man that will lead you to your seat. In Middle Eastern tradition you are allowed to linger as long as you like following the dinner. I have enjoyed their shawarma lentil soup. Do eat it Palestinian style by tearing up your bread and placing it in your soup. Their cabbage rolls and grape leaf rolls are excellent. Do be adventurous and try their other authentic main dishes. The Baklava for dessert is amazing but avoid the Knafee. Palestinian Knafee is far superior and you will be disappointed in Habibi's Knafee.

Superb Lebanese

By SPGreene48 |

This was around the corner from the Heathman, well three blocks. With lots and lots of fabulous cuisine in Portland we chose this one and were thrilled. Very nice ambiance. Beautiful food, so well prepared. The owner and staff were welcoming too. There homeland is in the news and there is so much to talk about. We were in from NYC and will always come back here. Lovely spot!

wow

By Cristina G |

I have to say the best falafel I have ever had. family owned, gracious service. the tabouli, schwarma, and ahi were excellent... the housemade fresh pita bread was outstanding

wrong choice

By daniele d |

What I call a wrong choice... terrible lemonade mint (nothing to do with the real one), mezes where deprived of any real taste nd the kebab had nothing to do with a real one. walk away dudes

Fabulous Food

By skylight46 |

The food was delicious! I got the vegetarian mezza platter and my husband got the kafta sandwich. My veggie platter was soooo good! It was a very generous portion of all my favorites…actually too big to finish for a late lunch (2:30) still planning on having dinner. I was sad leaving some of it even w some help from my husband. One of our favorite meals on our 18 days away.

Horrible service but good food

By Karen R |

We visited this place because it looked inviting and was near our hotel. They appeared to have only one server for the entire restaurant but he did not appear to be at all concerned about good service. It took forever for him to come take our order. The bartender noticed we were waiting without drinks and came over to take our drink order. She then tracked down our server to send him to our table to take our order. When our dinners arrived, mine was lacking the pita bread that was supposed to come with it, but he never circled back to check on us. My husband went and found the bartender again to ask for the bread. When she brought it over, she did not apologize, nor did the server, who eventually came over to see if we wanted the check. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. I really wanted to like this place but we were very disappointed in the service as well as the quality and amount of food for the price.

Finger licking delicious middle eastern food

By AV8080 |

Food at this Syrian-Lebanese restaurant was wonderfully flavorful. Service was prompt. Pita bread was warm and fresh, Baba ghannouj was distinctly smoky. We very much enjoyed Shatta pizza (hot as we like it) and Chicken shawarma with rice. Please don't forget to try Knafe for dessert. One of the few restaurants where we loved everything we ordered!!

Fun place

By Barbara P |

A group of four of us stopped in for lunch here when we were rather rudely turned away from Tasty and Alder. This was a nice surprise. The place is simple and nice. The service was delightful and efficient. We decided to do a sampling of the small sizes of about 6 dishes and they were all terrific. Adult beverages are available to some extent. We really enjoyed our meal and it was very reasonable.

Fab food, nice service, good value

By Silasroy |

This downtown spot has excellent Lebanese food and the Habibi Martini was great. The slices of cucumber and tarragon leaves gave the drink a perfect kick. Great place for a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner. Very nice service. Stuffed grape leaves were exceptional.

We tried a new place and loved it!

By Sherman |

This is small and comfortable restaurant. The food was excellent and the portions are larger than I expected. The staff is very friendly, It is right off the MAX blue line and an easy walk from Powell's books.

Fresh food and friendly service

By Ramirez-Sanchez |

Food is prepared hot and fresh and the portions are fairly large. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. A very simple formula to run a successful restaurant. Only two things bothered me on this particular visit: 1. The restaurant was dark. We came for lunch, not dinner, so not sure why so many of the lights were off. 2. They were out of the Lebanese beer advertised on the menu. I really, really wanted to try it but no dice on this day. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options.

Excellent. I'll be back!

By Eyegun |

First off, let's talk parking. Habibi is on SW Morrison in downtown Portland, so parking on the street cannot be relied upon. Habibi is just a couple blocks west of Downtown Nordstroms. There is a parking garage at 10th and SW Morrison. 10th is a one way street going North and the entrance and exit to the garage is on 10th, so approach from the South. Take your ticket with you as some businesses (not Habibi) will validate your parking. In any case, you have to pay for parking at a vending machine on street level, one of which is at the NE corner of 10th and SW Morrison so it's convenient. From the parking garage, walk roughly one block West on SW Morrison and it's on your left (south side of the street). This was one of the best meals I've ever had in any restaurant. Service was reasonable but not speedy (It's not fast food, it's a sit down joint). The food was awesome. I had the meat mezza platter, my GF had the veggie mezza. Portions were perfect. Everything on the platter was outstanding. Prices were very reasonable if not a little cheap for what we got so we tipped a bit extra. The menu has a lot on it but if you aren't sure what to order just ask what's popular and embrace the adventure. None of the food we had was 'hot', meaning spicy hot. I don't think you will be disappointed no matter what you order. If you've never had Lebanese food this is your place to start, or you can travel to Lebanon like I did, but this place is much closer and has authentic Lebanese food. I put this in my GPS as I'll be back for sure.

Tasty fare in a classic Portlandia setting.

By JAY S |

I do not claim to be an expert on Syrian or Lebanese cuisine, but we have enjoyed various types of food across the country and elsewhere in the world. I do make hummus at home (with good reviews) and enjoy lamb dishes, so we picked Habibi for Valentine's Day dinner. I called ahead to see if they expected to be busy. Reservations are only taken for very large parties; "just show up", the fellow said. The place is an easy walk from public transportation (TriMet). In fact, a MAX train rolls up the street outside, lending a quaintly periodic tone. Public transit is a treasured access reality that Portlanders use and enjoy. We almost never drive into the city center. Still unconvinced about V-day volume, we decided to meet direct from work, so we were seated at Habibi before six o'clock. Foot traffic was light, but it got busy by the time we were finished. We started with selections from the happy hour ap menu; cabbage rolls and Baba Ghannouj with fresh pita. I had the Lamb Shawarma Plate with half-and-half sides of Humus and Rice. My sweetie had lamb kabobs served on a bed of special flavored rice with homemade garlic sauce and a side salad. We thought everything was delicious. The menu is quite extensive; lots of choices. If you can't find something to like here, you must be pretty picky. Two things we did not try, and will return to get are the Falafel and the Tabouli salad. Service was really quite good. Granted, it is just a small place, but the server return-to-table was unexpectedly high. My Arnold Palmer was never empty. The mix of folks dining was interesting. A young family here, an older couple there, with ethnically diverse, local hipsters rounding it out. It felt comfortable. Surely, there is no shortage of great places to eat in this amazing city. This is one of them, since 2005.

Not sure

By arualpalm |

Food - my husband loved his falafel, but I thought my grilled vegetable and chicken kebabs were greasy. Our drinks were served in translucent plastic cups that should have been thrown out, as the rims were peeling. Service - soso. My husband's food came out 6 minutes before mine. I had to ask for utensils and napkins. Our server was polite and knowledgeable but a bit inattentive. Atmosphere - we sat outside and ate and did not set foot inside. 75% of the restaurant guests were outside on the patio since it was a nice day.

Undeniably Fantastic

By LV2PHSH |

This place has the best baba ghannouj I have ever had. I am in the middle of my meal, and feel inspired to write about it right now. The service is prompt and attentive, the atmosphere is great (enhanced by my beautiful wife), and the food is off the charts. If you are looking for middle eastern cuisine, I would not pass this place up.

Excellent as always!

By Ian M |

This will be a short review - worked in the Middle East for about fifteen years and so am familiar with the local cuisine in that part of the world. Suffice to say that the Habibi kitchen prepares food / dishes which compare favourably with anything produced in the Gulf. Have eaten here many times and have not been disappointed yet😋😋!

Excellent Middle Eastern food

By Jenny H |

I love Middle Eastern food and I wasn't disappointed here. We just happened upon Habibi and decided to try it. The server was pretty nice, though not exceptionally friendly. I thought the food was great - the falafel was delicious. The chicken shawerma was excellent and the hummus was just right. The tabouli salad was a little different than what I was used to, a bit more leafy with parsley I guess, but very good. Everything was seasoned and flavored very well and I'd eat here again.

Great spot

By Xanthoxylum |

Amazing food but service lacking. We didn't mind since we were vacationing but if you are in a hurry it might be a problem.

I will never visit it again.

By fahad k |

First of all, we were welcomed by an unfriendly staff. He was a little bit angry I don't why. The food was expensive compared to the amount of the plate. The rice was greasy not like the Mediterranean rice. I don't recommend it.

Excellent Representation of Authentic Middle Eastern Food

By RachelleNadinePhotography |

I went to Habibi with 5 friends, 3 of whom had never had Middle Eastern Food. As a lover of the Middle East and all their food options we had a great time exploring the menu by ordering Veggie and Meat Mezza Platters as appetizers for the group to get a taste of as many options as possible. The Happy Hour menu made it affordable for my friends to find something they liked. The only downside was the small portions for what you are paying for. I know how much it is to make a huge bulk batch of hummus and all the other fixings and for the tiny spear of hummus they give you on a plate for a side order, I was pretty disappointed. My kids love hummus and I can't bring them here because they would spend $100 just on having enough hummus. BUT, the flavor of their Baba Ganoush is incredible. The best I have ever had. I will definitely be back. Great friendly servers.

Just great food

By Tom K |

Nothing fancy about this place. Just great Labanese food. No pretense and the owners are friendly with a great sense of humor. My wife and I shared the vegetable mezza and combo meat plate. Delicious and plenty of food. When in Portland give this place a try.

Lebanese Cuisine at its best

By NolaAK |

We went to the Pine St. restaurant (there are two locations) and had the most delicious mezze plate my husband and I have tasted. The baba ganough had a wonderful smokey taste, the hummus was great, and the stuffed grape leaves tasted like they had just been made. The portions are generous and we were completely happy, and thought it was great value. I'll go again.

Super Supper!

This was the first time I had ever eaten Lebanese food, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I had the salmon, and it had a very nice flavor to it. We also had appetizers that I enjoyed. I would definitely recommend.

Ok, but won't return

We chose Habibi after searching online for some highly rated restaurants. While I thought the food was good, it wasn't memorable. Well, at least not memorable in a good way. I am vegetarian so my husband and I ordered the vegetarian mezza plate to share and then he asked the waitress for a second recommended dish. That turned out to be a mistake! She brought us a bowl of rice and grains. Whatever it was, it shouldn't have been served as a main dish! It was more like something we should have been eating as a side dish to something else! I was surprised by the mezza as well. I feel like wherever we go we get so much delicious food when we order a mezza plate to share...that was not the case here. We got small portions of everything, so it was not really made to be shared unless you're not very hungry. The positives were that they were nice enough to accommodate our stroller and the staff was friendly. It was weird that they all referred to my son as a "she" though! Haha. He was dressed like a boy and we called him by his name and yet they still said "she." I wonder what made them think that?! Anyway, like I said, they were all nice, and I don't hold it against them. We have had better Lebanese food at other Portland restaurants so we don't see ourselves returning to Habibi.

What a great find!

Actually we've been here before but tonight's meals were perfect. ..we'd been to habibi 2× in last 3 ir 4 years...well go back again since everything was excellent.... lamb kabob was extra tender, spinach pie was wrapped in a tasty pastry and the dressing and hummus and tabouli were first rate! Happy hour menu is an all day deal! Try it!

Pretty good food with average service or lower

By Gadi W |

I'm kinda split between the two... the food was rather good; the vegeterian stuffed vine leaves were good. The hummus was average or less. Ingredients seem to be fresh. At one occasion, however, the restaurant was pretty full and I was waiting for many minutes to even get the menu. The restaurant was not ventilated and air was full of sour dense cooking smell - beyond the reasonable. I couldn't stay there for long. On another occasion I went in, the restaurant was empty; and still I was shown to a particular table rather than letting me pick it by myself. I liked the Arabic music played there, but it doesn't compensate for the dense air. So all-in-all, you're welcome to hop-in, but don't expect ultra-welcoming hospitality.

Glad to have tried Lebanese cuisine here

After a busy day touring with my daughter, my wife and I walked over from our hotel about 7:30pm. The service was very good, and even the owner came out to chat with us. We started with two glasses of the house white, which was an off-dry Lebanese wine. While not fancy, the wine was very drinkable, and the pour was more than generous. My wife had a salad with marinated chicken. She said it was very flavorful, and so large she couldn't finish (but came close). I was not as hungry, so I ordered the shawarma lentil soup, with lamb. The soup was marvelous, and included a lot of tasty lamb. A large piece of hot fresh pita bread was included, which made the soup even better. The entire meal, with a generous tip, ran us about $50, which I consider a good deal.

One of my Favorite Restaurants

By Renae H |

I love this place and constantly crave their schwarma's, served with some delicious hummus and a yummy salad. My husband likes the lamb and I love the chicken. The atmosphere is authentic and the staff are very warm. I've also tried their falafel -- still yummy and my friends swear by the lentil soup. They have some limited outside seating as well. The menu is varied and very affordable. This will always be one of my favorite places to eat. Service can be a little slow sometimes but it's well worth any inconvenience.

Intimate, fun, flavorful and inexpensive!

We ordered a variety of sample plates and mains from their "mini" menu, plus drinks. All the food was perfectly prepared of ample sized portions. Service was with a real smile too! Small place and very reasonably priced for Portland.

Skimpy portions. I felt cheated. Go elsewhere.

By azstampcoin |

We eat Lebanese often all across the USA. I'd place this one about last of all of them. Food was average at best. Portions are EXTREMELY skimpy. I felt cheated. Service was very poor. We had long waits for everything and servers had challenges with the English language. I would NEVER return. For the $13 I'd rather give $10 to a homeless person and eat off the dollar menu at McDonalds with the other $3.

Ample, Tasty, Good Atmosphere

By HaveANiceStay |

I enjoyed my lamb kabob on plenty of flavored rice, served with a large, hot, light pita. I ate all of everything, including the salad. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry, so I could savor it all. The garlic sauce is a delight to garlic-lovers like me. The server put extra on my plate when I mentioned how much I liked garlic. The music was from that part of the globe, which I much appreciated. For a change, I wasn't anxious to get out of a restaurant to get away from the annoying, noisy music! This appears to be a family operation. It is kept very clean. The price was reasonable.

We always return for great dinner after great dinner. Servers are friendly and seating is prompt. Lamb Schwarma plate can't be beat!

Middle Eastern Treat

By JoppaMama |

Back home, I frequent a number of Middle Eastern, Lebanese, Syrian and even a Persian restaurant. So, I consider myself pretty familiar with the cuisine - and quite fond of it! Habibi did not disappoint! The menu was extensive and varied. We ordered several meze, and several entrees, and all were terrific. A few in our party were skeptical of my restaurant choice initially, but all were thrilled by the end of the meal. The restaurant was busy, with different groups - a young couple, a small family, grandparent types, a large group of women. All seemed content and were enjoying themselves. The service was attentive without being annoying. I'd eat here often if I lived nearby.

Delicious lunch

Was in the neighborhood and saw this place on Happy Cow. I had the vegetarian mezze plate and the baklava — both delicious!

So good!

This place has my favorite mediterranean food in the Pacific Northwest. And hands down the best hummus ever.

Fantastic food at an excellent price

By LauraHFarmgirl |

We went with friends to this wonderful place. It was close to our hotel in downtown Portland. The staff was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was great. We ordered a few appetizers from the All day Happy Hour” menu. We also ordered 2 martinis, 2 glasses of wine and 2 club sodas. Then we ordered dinner. Everything was delicious! We were surprised that the bill was less than $100. Definitely a bargain for the amount and quality. Highly recommend this place.

Off the MAX for lunch

By Droplet1927 |

We were riding the MAX from the airport thru the city and decided to stop for lunch. Habibi was a great choice. I had the chicken shawarma pita sandwich combo and my companion had the feta sandwich. Both were authentic and tasty. The humus and pita that came as part of the combo was excellent. The service was attentive and pleasant. I’m glad we chose Habibi!

Wonderful food!!

Just a couple of blocks off of pioneer square in downtown Portland. I knew I hit jackpot when I saw lots of ethnic customers, this seems to be the right place. Pita fresh and made in house. Lamb spectacular and I find even like lamb. Lots of vegetarian or meat options. Prices reasonable.

Excellent meal!

Great food and excellent service. Their pita bread is to die for! This is family owned place and they treat everyone like having family over for a meal!

Had a great time at Habibi's

By oregon64 |

My niece and nephew who live in Portland recommended Habibi's. It was located within easy walking distance of the Woodlark, our hotel. My wife and I met them for dinner since it was a birthday gathering. We ordered family style including the Shawarma Plate, pita, chicken and lamb skewers, babaganoush. We also had a bottle of Lebanese wine. This was a wonderful, shared meal...and it was very generous and The owner and the staff were very attentive and personable. And it wasn't too costly. I'd return in a heartbeat. Two thumbs way up for this charming establishment.

Very authentic

Great Lebanese food in downtown Portland.

By Nick N |

This restaurant is right in the middle of downtown Portland, so convenient if you're in downtown for business or an event. I enjoyed each course of my meal, from the hummus and pita bread through the lentil soup to the lamb kebabs. The lemonade with mint was also very good.

Poor Service, Okay food

By Priya K |

We visited this restaurant a few days ago. The service was a bit slow...took several minutes to get water. One of the waiters was rude. We asked if we could sit at a particular table, and he said that it was reserved. We then saw some guests who we saw exploring menus at restaurants down the street come in and get that very same table. They looked like tourists with backpacks, like us trying to find a bite to eat on July 4th. Oh well, we do not recommend this restaurant and do not plan to return.

Great Little Find...

By Christa M |

We had the opportunity to have dinner with friends on Saturday night and this has been on our list for a while. Great selection of Middle Eastern dishes that leaves you wanting more. Happy Hour menus allows you to try several different items. Service is good, efficient and friendly. We will be back...

Great food and service

We were cruising looking for a dinner spot and are very glad we stopped here. The started platter was amazing, my lamb main perfectly cooked and spiced. Service was so friendly and helpful, the girls working were genuinely concerned that we had a good time. Highly recommended

Gluten free in a Syrian and Lebanese restaurant in Portland downtown

By Milagrotwins |

We got this place just casually and the experience was great. We didn't think that this type of kitchen was so rich and interesting. Our daughter with a gluten free diet enjoyed very much the Veggie Eggplant Casserole, the other the meatball calzone, mom the thyme pizza and I the gluten free Mezza. It was a pleasure to have this experience.
