It's called "Mexican Buffet", but they have a varitey of different foods. The dessert bar is the biggest I have ever seen at a buffet. All of that said, I was not too impressed with the quality of the food. Most of what I tried was kind of bland and tasteless. The price is good for what you get. ($10.99). I probably won't go back.

We found this restaurant by accident while looking up directions to a nearby park. The buffet had so many options available, including chinese food. Everything we tried was very good. There is a nice dessert area which I usually avoid, but several items looked so tempting that I gave in. They too, were very good. We were very happy in the quality of food for a low price. Our dirty dishes were cleared promptly and our drinks were kept filled.

In general, not very clean. Spots notes on plates. Bathrooms dirty. Large variety of food, including three different types of enchiladas, a salad bar, Chinese food and a large dessert selection. Many of the items were not hot. The beans and nacho cheese were very watery. The meat was fatty. Quality was not very high, but it was only 10$ for dinner, so I should t be surprised. I was excited for a Mexican buffet to try some items that I wouldn’t normally get, but was not impressed by my experience. Will not be back.

It is a typical fast food buffet basically. Large selection of foods, deserts, and a salad bar. Off that they also offer Chinese food and ribs but I guess they want to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Food was okay but certainly not the the level to be San Antonio's official Mexican Restaurant as I saw on the internet. Service was good and I guess it make it authentic when the majority of the staff speak Spanish. It is a buffet so no one should leave hungry. I personally don't prefer buffet because neither of us make a second trip back. But this way we can select what we want and not have to take whatever comes with our selected meal. I was not prepared for families with over 10 kids coming in and helping themselves to the buffet though. Kind of made e cringe when I saw them helping themselves to fill their plates. Overall we enjoyed it but will not be stopping in again.

I confess--I'm a buffet junkie! I fondly remember the first Mexican buffet in San Antonio, Mexiteria, that opened in the 1960's; until Hacienda Vallarta, I haven't found it's equal. For me, the mark of a good Mexican restaurant is its refried beans. Hacienda Vallarta's are fantastic! I always grab a soup bowl and fill it with those beans! As other reviews have mentioned, there's a smattering of Chinese food (shades of the now defunct Wok-amole). I tried the dishes and their not bad at all--I've tasted worse in Chinese buffets. There are the standard dishes most are familiar with but others as well that are not so familiar--be daring and try them. The place is usually packed at lunchtime; haven't been at dinner. It's been correctly stated that if an ethnic restaurant has a good portion of its patrons being of that nationality, it's a good bet the food is authentic. This is definitely the case with Hacienda Vallarta. And the prices are extremely reasonable. So if you want a large variety of dishes, well prepared, at an excellent price, Give Casa Vallarta a tryl And if you see a guy with a bowl full of those refried beans, it's most likely me!

Great food and variety, buffet style. Big restaurant and usually has a big crowd, but not a long wait.

I found this restaurant to have a very large variety of food that including salad, soup and fruits along with seafood, traditional Mexican dishes and also Chinese items. It was busy at 3pm on a Saturday but the food was well kept and stocked. The customers were polite when at the foodbars and the server was very attentive. The bathroom was even being cleaned when I went in. It was an enjoyable visit to a buffet located in a newer building. I will be back

We make a point of stopping here every time we visit San Antonio. You just can't beat it for the price. The food is not only as good as other non-buffet, Latino restaurants that I've gone to, but also better in some cases. The selection of items is excellent. Service is friendly and attentive.

Our first visit to this place. Food was excellent. We had lunch and barrila tacos. Food was excellent. They have a large menu to order from.

I don't tend to frequent buffets but it was a quick option and after hearing rave reviews we gave it a go. Price: around 11 dollars with tax. For dinner. 8.50 for lunch. Food selection: Mexican, Chinese, seafood variations, even 4 types of soups including menudo, desserts and ice cream. Flavor: surprisingly good on most entrees. The negative: most of the hot plates had dried up food. The fajitas were dry and tough. The shrimp in sauce had good flavor but again, scraping the bottom of the pan and drying up. The positive: the menudo and Pozole were good. Try the pork in red sauce, best I have had in a while, shrimp cocktail was ok. Salsa was on point. Tortillas were good and the server was polite and attentive on refills and removing plates. The flan was not bad so save space for dessert if you go.

Absolutely love this place! I really don't recommend the Chinese food though... not because it is not good but because its always cold! I think it may be where its located or something! But all the food is great! I love that every time we are celebrating a birthday they always place us in a private room with no problem! Unlimited warm tortillas and a wide spread of deserts as well!

I just had lunch here with my husband, and it was about average for this kind of Mexican restaurant. They do have an extensive buffet, which everyone eats from, with a lack of green vegetables, unfortunately. I had a pretty good salad instead. They also have Asian fare. The soft-serve ice cream is a big hit with the kids.

I was invited by our friend to this restaurant, and I really like it the food it was fresh, clean, the waiter was very polite and keep out table clean all the time, the steaks were really good they have home made flour and corn tortillas, Pozole, Caldo de Res, Menudo.. well it was good if you know about Mexican food you have to try Capirotada and I found it in this restaurant wow very good and I recommend this place I did not got sick nor anything like that, this place it is good the review below that it states that they got sick, well it is not true because they opened this business by 2015. Thank you I really enjoyed and my family was pleased that is the most important.

Best mexican buffet i have ever gone! The taste is so great.. you can actually taste the love and dedication put on every dish. The price is also awsome very economical

Well the place was clean, isn't like a fantasy restaurant. Is a buffet place, I was told by a friend that the food was good. Service was nice, our waiter was a really nice young gentleman taking care of the service. The place to big and almost empty ( just four couples) the food not that great at all. Disappointed for me.

The food is just average but the worst part is that we all got sick. I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Large restaurant friendly and helpful staff lots of food lots of flavour even through it says Mexican there was steak and Ribs plenty of choice for all tastes set price buffet

I have no been in a while and must the quality and service is mediocre as in garbage! I will spend my hard earned money somewhere else! DO NOT WASTE GOING THERE!! Spend tour money somewhere else. The forks and knives where dirty and our waitress forgot about us. The flour tortillas were old and rubbery!! The guacamole is fake not home made. The ketchup tasted like it was mixed with shrimp cocktail sauce. WILL NOT RETURN!!

As a family, we have always enjoyed dining at La Hacienda Vallarta. Food and service are excellent. Just one detail caught our attention. The air duct grilles were very dirty. It's not safe to have that problem where food is served.

The place it's clean, there is a good variety of food, the staff is great and our waitress was very attentive. It's very spacious and family friendly, great great variety of fresh dessert (not the rubbish you usually find at buffet) the only downside was that the food was all a bit too cold, not warm but cold ... otherwise I would have given this place 5 starts!! Although it was cold I'll still go back :-)

Very extensive buffet options. There are five islands with food. Tacos, enchiladas (several kinds), meats like carnitas, barbacoa, soups-menudo, pozole, res, rice, beans, salad, fruit, tons of dessert, ice cream. You won't leave hungry!

I've eaten here a couple of times. I live in Baltimore and visit San Antonio from time to time. I don't know how the food here measures up against other offerings in San Antonio, but compared with choices in Baltimore, this place offers excellent food for the price. The selection is tremendous, and even includes menudo and pasole. The desserts are not bad, especially the flan. I look forward to eating here when I am visiting San Antonio.

Finally got to have breakfast here and wasn’t disappointed. Small menu for the morning but awesome choices. Had egg a la mexicana breakfast taco and it was flavorful and tasted like it was good for me! My husband had a healthy choice breakfast of pancakes eggs and bacon that he really like as well. It’s busy so service for coffee refills may be slow but it’s worth the wait. This is our third meal here - dinners are fantastic. Atmosphere is festive, fresh, open and clean. We will be here on a regular basis!

We are from out of town and we're skeptical when our cousins wanted to take us to a Mexican buffet. We loved it! The fried shrimp was crispy and fresh, the enchiladas were terrific, and they even had Chinese food! The price was great and we would definitely recommend.
