In the heart of the Richmond district residential district. I have lived nearby for 50 years and just recently went there. They have Korean tour buses there all the time and the place is always crowded. I went there with a group of friends (12) and had a good time. I made reservations for 630pm but was told there was a party before us and I can have 645pm. Also because of the large group, we could not have a table with the BBQ in the table. We all got there at 630pm and what a mad house. Crowded and super busy. lots of other people waiting, with and without reservations. I checked in with the manager and was told to just wait a bit. Waiting inside, your always in the way of the food servers. All I kept hearing was, excuse me, excuse me. I checked back in at 655pm and again was told just wait some more. I saw that there was about 5-6 names crossed off the waiting list behind me. Waited some more and checked back in at 705pm. Was told again. he'll get back to me. I then noticed my name was crossed off and mentioned it to him and he kinda acknowledged it and turned away. What is going on? We were finally seated at 715pm. We really didn't know what to order, so we went with the set meal that feeds 8-10 and ordered a few extra dishes. The food is really good, hot an tasty. The Kim chee fried rice was really good. The service was decent and even though it was really crowded, we weren't rushed. The prices are a little high compared to other Korean BBQ places, but not a lot. I enjoyed it but don't know if I'll be back. Parking is very tough in this residential area.

Had a fun time cooking our own Korean BBQ here. Food is good and the amounts are sufficient (we definitely did not leave hungry!). Always busy, the place was packed on a Sunday night but they’ll take reservations after 7pm. It’s bustling and a little noisy but we still could have good conversations. The staff helped us with the process. Tip: for newbies they tend to put all the meat on the bbq at once which rushes dinner - instead do it yourself a little bit at a time. The side dishes are super yummy - half the fun is tasting all them all. Korean beers and a limited wine selection. Parking is challenging (take Uber).

My favorite Korean place in the Richmond district. My parents used to own a store down the block. I've seen a lot of ppl from Korea dining here.

We got 4 meats to grill for 5 and left with extra; that's no small feat for us as we are big eaters. They left us alone for the most part to grill for ourselves and I like that autonomy. I hate it when they bust in and cook for you. Takes away from the fun of it. The ban chan was a little above average. Overall, one of the better Korean restaurants I've had in the US minus NYC. Service was lacking as I had to call them over several times for water refills and extras. That's ok in Korea maybe but I expect American style service here. That's the 1 star deduction. But great otherwise!

Almost perfect Korean bbq, with classically brusque service that almost is expected. Busy place, high standards, manager keeps close on floor and makes the place work.

When the tour bus pulls up in front and 40 Korean tourists file out you know its authentic. We went for an early dinner after a visit to the deYoung. The restaurant is in the Richmond neighborhood, but parking isn't too bad on Balboa. We were promptly seated in a booth with a built in barbecue in the table. If you order two barbecue items you can do it yourself, otherwise the cooking is done in the kitchen. We had marinated beef short rib and their seafood combo, which consisted of shrimp, octopus, scallops and vegetables, and an order of stone pot Bi Bim Bab. More than enough food for three. In addition to the numerous side dishes we were served a tangy tofu soup. Service was very attentive with the waitress coming by regularly to make sure we weren't having a problem with cooking the meat and seafood. Food was excellent and reasonably priced for San Francisco. Would recommend getting there early as the restaurant filled up as the evening wore on.

My fiancee and I enjoyed our first Korean BBQ experience on a Sunday night. The restaurant is very clean, staff friendly, and food worth telling friends and family about.

On memorial weekend I went out lunchen dinner with my wife and my daughter's family. I'm not expecting real Korean taste in bay area. This area always foggy and cloudy but this day was clear and sunny and warm day. We parked 3 blocks away and walk to this restaurant. Restaurant was already packed just passed noon. Almost half hour after we seated and another half hour later our order was served. I was surprised those plate was like this. Korean BBQ shot rib was tender and taste like heaven. No words and we ate and ate. Complimentary dishes was nice and good specially KIMCHI was wonderful. If you have a chance to visit San Francisco must visit this restaurant and enjoy real Korean taste.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the neighborhood and looking for some Korean food. Try Han II Kwan. Many from Socal come to enjoy the food.

I've been coming here for years when the original owner was running the place. They've recently updated s few things at the restaurant but it's as busy as ever. Food is good, service is very fast and efficient. Just don't come when the Korean tour buses come for them to eat and run. I read it's starts 4-5:30pm. So far haven't been anywhere else is SF that is any better than Han II Kwan. Except a great Korean restaurant in Koreatown in LA. Only real problem is parking.

A group of five went and we all agreed that this was the most authentic Korean dining experience we have yet had in the US. The only signs that we were not in Korea was the wooden chopsticks and no buzzer to call the waitstaff. The other patrons were predominately Korean and we heard Korean language being spoken all around us. We had a selection of meats and banchan, all delicious. The service was excellent. If you are in San Francisco and yearning a taste of Korea, this is the place.

My long time friend and his family, my wife and I decided to eat out at Han II Kwan Korean Restaurant, since they have tried it but not me. It was Saturday night, and it was bad waiting! Good thing my friend made a reservation for 9 persons. It was packed and lucky the wait was not long. We were given a hot pot table and were promptly hosted by a server as to what we want. My friend ordered the following for self-cook BBQ : marinated beef rib eye, beef short ribs, and chicken. Also, a seafood scallion pancake and kin-chee pancake, along with a stir-fried verimicell noodle. We self cook these items. What was surprising 8 or more different appeitizing Korean dishes, five bowls of soft sweet sticky rice, and a bowl of spicy beef soup with vegetables, without extra charges! The food was great and is better than what I experienced in KoreaX! The bill came to about $105.00 before tax and tips. It was very reasonable price. I would recommend this restaurant for everyone to try; However, its always crowd. Should call for reservation, unless its a week night dining. The restaurant is located on 1802 Balboa Street, in the Richmond District of San Francisco. (415) 752-4447.

Reservation is strongly encouraged. We waited about 50mins to get a table. However once seated, service was quick and good. Food was served hot and tasty, no complains. The grilled Chicken and fried japchael were my favorites...

This place often reserves many tables for the bus loads of korean tourists. That should tell you plenty. If you don't get it... it means that Koreans from Korean will probably find this place acceptable to what they're accustomed back at home. Also it means that if you're not into it they kinda won't care because they're in cozy with the bus tour groups. And that also means that they'll care more about the bus loads of people than they will about you and your pitiful party of three. But the service is fine once seated and the food is pretty good since there's a number of other Korean joints nearby that they have to compete with.

We liked this place so much that we came back the next day. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by how good the Korean BBQ here is. We were exploring the Lands End area and were delighted that there was a Korean BBQ option nearby. We first came here for lunch on a Monday and there was ample seating. You have the option of grilling the meat yourself or having them cook it for you in the kitchen. The side dish game is spot on - standouts are the kimchi, bean sprouts and seaweed salad. For the meats, we ordered the marinated beef short ribs, marinated beef rib eye, and marinated chicken. We had them cook it in the kitchen - they cooked it perfectly and the wait time was short. The meat was delicious, fresh and flavorful, especially the marinated chicken - this was the first Korean BBQ place I've been to where the chicken was a standout (in my experience, the chicken at other places usually comes out dry and lacking in flavor). In addition, the japchae here was one of the best I've had - perfect proportion of noodle, vegetables and beef without too much grease. They also give you free soup! We happened to be in the Golden Gate Bridge / Presidio area the next day and decided to come back here for dinner since it was so good. We opted for the self-grill this time and the meats came out great (but would recommend having them cook it in the kitchen for a much more laid-back carefree experience - leave it to the experts!). Service is friendly and attentive. Recommend coming here for lunch as the lunch special prices are much more reasonable. Also recommend this restaurant for visitors who are exploring the neighboring Lands End / Golden Gate area!

Ordered the Braised Oxtail Stew, and did not regret it. The oxtail was tender and meaty, full of the braising liquid flavor. the banchan was plentiful, while delicious and fresh. Moreover, there is also a complementary spicy tofu soup which is flavorful and full of the soft tofu. Walked out of the restaurant with a full stomach and satisfying tongue!

Dinner included the multiple side dishes presented with traditional Korean food as well as a spicy tofu soup (on the house). Spicy bulgogi was excellent and flavorful. They have options for hot pot or BBQ at your table as well. Would recommend reserving a table if you wish to BBQ at your table as not every table has this option. Good, friendly service.

We came upon the recommendation of local friends - if you want authentic Korean dishes - we highly recommend this place in the Richmond District. A few things for any to know: A. If you're coming in with a big group - call ahead to reserve. They get packed and busy esp over the weekend. Tour buses bring in Korean tourist for dinners so it packs the restaurant. B. Come early - we came early but we still stood in line and waited for half an hour or so. C. Choice to cook or not- they have two kinds of tables - The cooking kind and the non. For the fun of grilling your own meant, you cook it your own, or have the kitchen cook it for you and enjoy the company you're with! D. Come with a larger group and you can order from the set menu for six. That settles it and you can order from the side if it's not enough. We orders extra and had so much for leftovers. E. Wear your non- Sunday's best Bec the grilling smell stays on you! F. Be patient for your table Bec once the food comes - it's worth the wait !

Who knew even off the main street restaurants can offer such good food. We stayed at a AirBnB in the area and it was a nightly adventure to try out all the local restaurants. This one is always packed at dining time. You should make a reservation ahead of time for a large family, but you can try your luck and wait for a table.

Love this joint ! True authentic meal! It’s located out in the avenues, be ready to take a few minutes looking for parking since it’s a neighborhood. Standing outside makes you salivate already! Be sure to make reservations esp if you want to cook your meal together ! We had fun grilling our meat ! It’s a little pricy for the cook your own plates but do order the the Korean spare ribs, bulging I and Kalbi ! Loved the marinated chicken as well ! For soup we ordered the sea food and I wouldn’t do it again - the crabs were huge but it didn’t match the meal and all of us didn’t even crack the crabs. We also ordered the mix seafood plate to grill and loved the squid ! Typical Korean appetizer with the “banchans” but the best and can’t miss was the steamed egg dish !!! Will go back again when back in the city! Forewarning - don’t wear your Sunday’s best - you will walk it smelling like the Korean grilled food - it’s going to be on your hair, hands and clothes !

Looking for more local tastes? Skip the touristy restaurants. Head to the Richmond district and check out Han II Kwan. Make sure you reserve a BBQ table so you can add to the experience by grilling your own meat. We chose the marinated chicken and the beef short rib. The marinade used has a great flavor and they gave us 8-10 sides to grill. I also ordered the Jaechap: vermicelli noodles stir fried with veggies and chicken. Phenomenal. We capped off our evening with a sweet rice beverage that actually was quite refreshing. I highly recommend Han II Kwan. Tough competition here in San Fran amongst Asian restaurants and Han definitely stood out!

Service was quick. Food was delicious. Can't go wrong with anything that you order. We especially liked the spicy pork. The side dishes were very tasty. I will be back.

One of the best Korean BBQ places in the city! Highly recommend if your in the city craving Korean BBQ.

Get in your car and drive out to this quiet and borring neighborhood to get some really good korean bulgogi. We eat korean barbeque whenever we travel and this was no disappointment! The waiters were fast and attentive. The table was instantly loaded with 9 different small dishes (kimchi of many sorts), tea, soup, rice and lots of meat. Portions were generous and the waiters were helpfull with both the grill and the meat. Impressive korean efficiency! We were happy and very full when we left this restaurant. Reserve a table. This place is very popular. We got the last table at a very early hour. We will recommend this restaurant to all our travelling friends.

There's always a line whenever I come to this restaurant. The food is authentic and tasty. Try to get a table for the BBQ and you won't be disappointed. We always leave with happy bellies and money still in the wallet.

I’m glad I bookmarked this place for my trip to San Francisco, because it was easily the best place I ate during my trip. I had the kimchi jjigae, and the nice ladies working gave me a steamed egg on the house. Everything tasted amazing, and the service was wonderful. Absolutely delicious.

I went there with 3 of my colleagues, we did not know almost anything about Korean cousine so we let the waiter choose for us. We had a plate of beef, of veggy, of noodle and a spicy one. The thing that surprised us the most was that we were also served lots of other condiments to mix with the food, like potatos, anchovies, cucumber, orange slices ... . The food was really delicious and the place filled with Korean people to witness it, the service was good. There was a rich choice of local and Korean beverages.

Best Korean I have found.

First experience at Korean Bbq. not bad. As always the portions are American style ... huge also for two people. Nice local. Warmly recommend booking !!

Whatever lunch, dinner, always busy. My wife first bring us there for dinner over 12 years ago. The food have been good since then. Lunch are better deals

Visited this restaurant today based on IG recommendations. Here's my take. Fish cake was a treat, If you know Korean food you know that encountering a Korean restaurant with authentic Fishcake is always a treat, they only offer it when they have it. Difficult to find! (4/5) Japchae was my favorite dish of all the dishes. Flavorful not too many onions, love the variety and balance of vegetables (4/5) Spicy Bulgogi, disappointing. Not spicy at all! I was hoping for the occasional pop of spicy from a jalapeño, but the spiciness was very underwhelming! I've had better, and overall bland (2/5) Ban Chan was great, traditional and included fish cake so that was a + (4/5) Kimchee Jjigae 3/5 Our stove kept turning off and the server had to keep coming back to relight. Customer service, I don't know what it is about Korean restaurants, but I've yet to encounter one with great customer service. They all seem to be bothered when asked a question. (1/5)

Cons: Small place, have to wait for a while for the table. Pros: Cheap, good food. Fun when you cook it yourself, fast service (a lot faster than most Korean restaurants i went to); waitresses speaks/understand good English; clean. Food is excellent. Bi-bimpab (i hope i spelled it right) was awesome.

This restaurant is for real. Being Korean, it's hard for me to say whether non-Koreans would like it. But for those who are into truly authentic Korean food, this place is it. I had the kimchi dolsot bab, and hubby had kalkooksoo. The BEST kalkooksoo - handcut noodles that are better than some I've tried in Korea. And all the banchan is the real deal. Sooo good. My only regret is that we didn't go there more than once.

Authentic Korean food, generous portions and good service. It can get busy because buses of Korean tourists come here for lunch or dinner. I love the side dishes especially.

From the staff to the food everything was amazing . We even watched 2 buses of Korean Tourist eating while we had our Korean BBQ that tells you a lot about how authentic and good the food is.

Geary Blvd in the "Avenues" is known as "Korean restaurant row".....located in the outer Richmond District off-Geary at the corner of Balboa and 19th Avenue, this is one of my Korean family's "go to" restaurant in San Francisco. Korean tour buses like to stop in here due to its real cuisine and family setting that can accommodate larger groups; be on notice...like most San Francisco restaurants there is NO off-street parking; you will have to find street/neighborhood parking and feel like a circling vulture waiting for a space to open up several blocks away! The Banchan Korean side dishes were fresh and yummy, and the main dish portions are plentiful; you can't go wrong with the Kalbi/Galbi or hot pot BiBimBap; if you want a "communal" experience, ask for a table grill... My personal favorite is the marinated spicy pork (Dwaeji/Taejii Bulgogi) and the squid, scallops, octopus with special sauce and the pan fried combination/assorted platter of pollack fish, prawns and zucchini (#52) Han IL Kwan offers a sweet rice drink to finish the meal. I recommend reservations if you are in a hurry or have other plans!

We usually come for dinner, but decided to try lunch. It was a busy day, but I noticed the staff was very respectful of seating you on a first come first serve basis (size of party did not matter). The regular menu and a special lunch menu is available. They offer the ban chan for lunch specials too. Lunch is just as good as the dinner.

We, my brother and I, went there twice during our 5 day trip to San Francisco. it would have been three times if they didn't close on Wednesdays. The food was excellent and the service was great as well!

Had to wait over an hour, as you need to put your name down on the list. Worried, that it would not be worth it, but very pleasantly surprised. Would recommend. It's also really busy with the locals, which is a good sign.

The perfect introduction to korean food. Very helpfull and service minded staff. A part for what you order a hole lot of side dishes are served free of charge.

My friends and I loved our bbq dinner here. We ordered the spicy beef ribeye & prawns with vegetables. The beef was tender & delicious. Prawns were good too. The pan fried dumplings were great as a side dish. Service was prompt. The rice dessert drink was wonderful. Plenty of food for the price.

I had the marinated pork bbq, a tofu soup and a bibibamp... everything was excellent and the ingredients as they should be

My rate: 4.5 very tasty Korean dishes, has nice interior designs, the service were friendly, and food comes in satisfying proportions. though the price of food are over $17(avg), but even with a tight budget, try the lunch specials Mon-Fri for below $10.

This is an authentic Korean restaurant in the Richmond district of San Francisco. It’s open during Covid and had plenty of indoor seating that was socially distanced. We enjoyed every selection and the side dishes were great.

Family visit to SF in Dec 2011 included this fine Korean restaurant. We enjoyed the featured items on the menu. Prepared it at our table. Very good. You will see some reviews indicate they had service problems if tour buses were there. We were there while a tour group was there and did not have any issues! We were seated and served as soon as we arrived. Would recommend it to those who want to enjoy a Korean BBQ.

When I mean Korean BBQ, I mean exactly what I got at Han Il Kwan. Tasty fresh meat, spicy and marinated, lots of delicious tasty vegetables to share and lettuce to make rolls with meat and rice. It was just a perfect diner, even if we had to wait a few minutes. Indeed all tables aren't BBQ ready. The have beer and wine... will return undoubtfully

Very good, tasty and affordable. I never had Korean food and I enjoyed it so much. I will repeat probably

Our party of 6 decided on Han after reading good reviews. The mistake was it was a last minute decision as we were touring California. Had to wait one and the half hours for a bbq table. Others who came in later were ushered to a table as they were either 2- 4 pax. Aside from the wait the service and food was great. They even threw in a complimentary steam egg for our patience I guess. Must say the Oxtail soup was rather bland. Reasonably priced.

My brother and his wife brought us to this restaurant because when they tried this place they really loved the food here. We choose to visit on a weekday around 6pm hoping that there would be less of a wait because on the weekends sometimes the wait can be upwards of an hour. We didn't have to wait at all, and were able to be seat immediately. Once we ordered we received the (banchan) small plates fairly quickly and started snacking on them, each place was delicious. We tried several different dishes and each was better than the next. We had an Oxtail marinated stew, bulgogi, Tofu soup, bibimbap and seafood pancake. I really enjoyed the tofu soup with the white rice, I normally don't eat white rice but with the tofu mixed with the rice it was like a porridge and mixing in some bonchan bean paste it had the right amount of spicy and salty. My brother wanted to order the oxtail stew right away because it can take about 20-30 minutes to make so he place the order right away. So we were able to get the ox tail at the same time with everything else. Everything was very delicious. We had plenty of food left over for the next day and it was just as good the next day. Parking can be a bit tricky, because you'd have to try to find a spot in the nearby neighborhoods and walk to the restaurant. I would love to come back and visit again the next time I visit SF.

Ate dinner here while visiting the most wonderful city in the world. The service was good. The food was tremendous. We were here during early afternoon at the end of lunch hour and it was very busy and crowded. I had the bibimbap in the stone hot pot and wifey had japchae noodles. Both were outstanding and served piping hot as they should be. Most remarkable was the delicious array of side dishes or ban chan. They really make the difference at most Korean restaurants and they were very very good here. One of the waitresses acted like she would rather be somewhere else but our main waitress was very good. Definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes or wants to try Korean food!

Being a lover of Korean food, I noticed a small mention in a local newspaper of this restaurant, so we decided to try it earlier this week. We will be back! The food was excellent, especially the seafood hot pot, the condiments served with the meal were terrific, the service was efficient and friendly despite the large crowd, and the prices were very reasonable . . . the perfect combination for a successful restaurant. I would return just to enjoy some more of the various types of kim chee! The only negative is that it is difficult to find street parking in the area, so a two or three block walk might be necessary.

Couple a month ago I went this restaurant with friends. We ordered lunch special of beef rib. Nice dish and special free soup of bean(deunjang jjigae). Price is cheap and variety dishes.
Can't miss Korean
Showed up around 6:30p on a Thursday (FYI they're closed Wed). We watched 3 tour buses of Koreans eating and leaving within our time visiting. I think that says something about the place. We were seated about 20 min later and got a feast. If you're wanting traditional Korean, go here.
