Cute Vibes, Good Pizza

By SnappleSpice |

I came here to try the tavern style pizza, but ended up going with the traditional instead and really liked it! I got the “Tony” and the crust was soft and doughy. I also got the flamingo cocktail, which was fairly strong and a good amount of spicy. The decor was very cute.

Great Pizza!

By Michelle C |

Great pizza, especially for bar dining! Whole wheat and gluten free crust available. I went with my 13 year old daughter and they only let her in because she was accompanied by a parent. They were checking ID's at the door. It's a very fun atmosphere with a cute and creative theme!

Good food, weird environment

By Becks |

Been a few times before and never had a problem! Food was good however there was a dog on the next table... I am allergic to dog hair so couldn’t eat much of my food as my throat was swelling up!! The dog kept going under our table whilst we were eating which really killed the vibe. Was really looking forward to it but had to wait outside whilst the bill came because the dog wasn’t controlled and my throat was swelling up!! It’s not that I don’t like dogs it just made us feel uncomfortable in the restaurant!

Best Gluten-free pizza EVER!!

By Lauren G |

My daughter and I shared a gluten-free Tony (prosciutto, caramelized onion, goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes) and it was outstanding! I kept asking her if she was sure it was gluten-free. Highly recommend to anyone with gluten allergies and if you’re not the biggest fan of deep dish.

I like the different types of pizza here

By Kathy & Bill T |

We had the small 10” Benjamin Pizza $12.which was perfect for a hungry person at dinner. We ordered wheat crust for a $1. more. Our son ordered14” Tony $23. & he had no trouble eating all but 2 pieces. It was a bit overpriced. We also shared the Mozzarella cheese stix$9. The bread stix were overcome with mozzarella & not enough sauce.

What a great place for pizza! The food was fast and excellent! The staff was friendly, and fast. A fun place to go.

Tasty delightful pizza

By Kristie T |

I love the pizza here and the vegetarian options are varied and plentiful. The Lance, Linda, Glenn and Mom pizzas are a few favorites. Get something with the olive oil or pesto instead of red sauce for a yummy change of pace.

Excellent Chicago Pizza

By Tom F |

I am a traditional Chicago pizza person with the standard famous as my favorite. I never heard of Happy Camper before and was quite surprised at how good it was. It was a little pricey for pizza, but they are located in Old Town where I'm sure rent is high. Definitely will go here again.

Lunch

By Barb G |

Love this place in Old Town Chicago. We both had salads and they were huge and really good. Service was excellent and sitting outside on a beautiful day is a must. Try the pink flamingo it my new favorite drink. Totally going back to try the pizza it looked amazing at other tables.

Saturday funday with friendly staff

By Laura M |

What a fun spot for a Saturday libation and some small plates. The upbeat dance vibes made for a lively early afternoon. The bar and restaurant were full when we got there, but we were able to snag a few tire swings for about 15 minutes while two seats at the bar opened up. Our bartender even treated the four of us to a refreshing cucumber bomb. Would definitely head back for brunch or lunch with friends or family.

Unique themed restaurant/bar

By BML111 |

We were here for late night drinks. How fun to see the DJ booth made out of a small airstream trailer inside the place! There is a full-size airstream in the back with tables in it- so awesome. The other room features tire swings around the bar area. Talk about a camping vibe! They are known for their pizzas which we will be back to try.

Great Pizza, Neat atmosphere

By VOLSatty |

I was here with a group of 9 people. We had to wait about an hour on a Saturday night and we got there at 8 pm. We had a number of appetizers: the loaded potatoes, wings and guacamole. All were great! I had a bite of Caesar salad and it was tasty. Everyone ordered personal pizza and they were great!! I’ll definitely go back!!

Trendy Sports Bar Restaurant

By hwycoup |

Nice place, younger crowd, low music and this at Saturday noon. We had a breakfast burrito and it wasn’t hot. It seemed like it may have been pre-made and simply microwaved before serving. If it had been cooked and assembled, might the eggs be hot, or the cheese but perhaps not the refried beans? In any, might have been very good if it arrived hot. Also, although a sports bar, the do allow children. Ok

Delicious!

By reelcool2 |

My favorite pizza in Chicago. Love the vibe here, but be warned wait times can be long! No reservations. Gluten free pizza is good too!

Such a good time!

By kjm445 |

Went here for late night snacks after a show and it was awesome! The meatball and the pizza were delicious. They made some great drinks too. Just a really cool place with really nice people!

Airstream Food and Service

By Chicago-BB |

We met our son for a quick birthday dinner before going to Second City. Super friendly service, even asked our son's name before he arrived. When our jalapeño appetizers arrived at the same time as our pizza, he comped them without asking. They were so delicious we didn't even care! The pizza was good, a nice change from our usual Lou's deep dish, with a crunchy yet tender crust. It's loud inside because it's a hoppin' spot with bar and TVs. But there are tins of tables both in and out. If you're early enough you can sit in a trailer. We will be back. Happy campers here!

A Great Place

By tannerm4m |

Happy Camper is just Awesome from the drinks atmosphere food bartenders music and decor Mickey our bartender was superb. great Prices and sitting on tire swings at a bar the only thing missing is a fire pit. The umbrella is my wife’s favorite drink

Fun spot to grab dinner with friends

By Gabi D |

I dined at Happy Camper with a friend before seeing a show at the Second City. It was the perfect atmosphere for a casual meal and some beers. Extensive pizza selection. All we tried was delicious!

Great good, great service, great vibes!

By Kriswyzer |

Ate here for supper as a couple on a Thursday night. Promptly seated and waitress was great with recommendations as we were first timers. Each got a personal 10" pizza and shared them. Both were great....dont think you could go wrong with any of the pizzas. Good beer selection and atmosphere is fun!

Tasty pizza for takeout

By Scott319 |

Delicious for takeout. We came here to pick up a “Mike” pizza with sausage, sun-dried tomatoes and onions. This was a Friday night. Very busy even in COVID

Good food & fun atmosphere - a happy spot!

By MeganHernando_MS |

What a fun place! The eclectic decor - disco balls, astroturf, RV tail lights - coupled with great food and a friendly staff, made this a great spot for lunch. I’m sure evenings there are even more fun! My husband enjoyed their wings and helped me with the gettin’ figgy with it za - which was really good but way too big for the two of us. We also tried the trifecta for dessert - fun concept but no way we could finish it all! Definitely worth stopping in for good food in a fun atmosphere - you’ll leave full and happy!

So good we went twice

By Alf13 |

Met friends who were living very close to this Old Town Pizza Restaurant/ Bar. Excellent service and food. Price were fine and the pizzas around $12 for a small one thats certainly big enough for 1. Relaxed and friendly not much more to add.

The pizza looked excellent

By joelajoela |

Having had pizza the night before I decided to have the soy salad with chicken, my daughter had a chicken sandwich. Both were very good. The salad was a hefty portion with lots of chicken added on top, the sandwich was cooked to perfection. The service was very good as was the atmosphere.

Girls trip

By Jan Folley |

This place was so fun! Pizza was AMAZING! We went right when it opened so I assume it gets a little more hopping but the place was nicely decorated and the staff was super friendly. When I come back to Chicago I plan to come back here!

Nice staff, good food and a happy place

By ghost1975Portugal |

The staff is nice and approachable. The food and cocktails are quite good. We shared some chicken wings, nachos and some other specialities. At the end of the day it is a good meeting point for young people that come to have a drink and some food after work. I like also the decor inside, however in July i prefer to stay outside.

Pizza in OLDE TOWN

By TexasDadWaco |

Staying in the GOLD COAST area this was just a few blocks and well worth the walk. the Happy Camper did not disappoint! I had a JAY I believe and it was very good. Even tried the tire swings at the bar! Pizza in Chicago is good. This is very good!

Best pizza ever

By Maria S |

I highly recommend this place. It has the best pizza I have ever tasted. Good prices on both food and drinks. It’s also up pretty late and a fun place to hang out for a while. If possible, sit out on the patio and watch the the crowds passing by.

Lively night scene

By Tom B |

Located in the historic district of the Gold Coast. Lively and boisterous night scene featuring drinks and duh - pizza. Was here as a guest on a Friday night with a very, very large group prior to a weekend wedding in the area. Was impressed with the attentive and friendly service. Given the raucous and celebratory nature of our group never had an issue with ordering a drink and the staff kept the tables cleared. The small plate and varied pizza buffet never left any in our sizable group wanting or waiting to be replenished despite a full Friday night crowd in other parts of the bar/restaurant. Kudos to the Happy Camper staff.

Fun, memorable ... near Second City

By KNorie |

We called Second City before the evening show to get a local recommendation on a nearby place to eat - Happy Camper was the top of their list. The wait staff was incredibly nice, even on a busy Friday night, our server took time to fetch a variety of their super cute t-shirts for us to check out (see photo!). Excellent pizza - highly recommend the Gaurav with portabellas, sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese and spinach - paired with a shared salad was the perfect meal.

Cool atmosphere

By Lisa C |

Loved sitting on the tire swing at the back bar! Food was pretty good, but the decor and environment was the best part!

If you want a happy crowd, pizza or sports. it is a good place

By Patrick J |

ON weekends this place is overflowing with mostly adults. Indoors, out doors or in the bar, everyone is having a good time. The pizzas are good the salads better. AS Chicago seems to always do, the wait staff are friendly, helpful and quick. My waitress was named Alaina and was very good. I had the Kale Cob salad. I am not a fan of kale but the rest is good. If you know the history of the Cobb Salad you may feel that kale is not the right green. If you know the history then Kale would fit in if it was invented today. I read my book , ate my food and enjoyed the party going on around me. Want to get rid of built up angst from work? Visit here, it has it all.

legit fresh ingredients in nice tasty reasonably sized pizzas

By xyliafanta |

We were staying in the Gold Coast and had walked by this place a few times. I didn't really want traditional deep dish pizza since I am not a fan. Don't judge! But we were so pleased we stopped here. It had a really cool vibe of some eating and drinking and others just enjoying the killer DJ. For as packed as it was i was shocked how quickly we were seated and served. The waitress suggested the sesame salad and it was to die for. We decided to customize a pizza and were not disappointed. The sausage was cut in little circles and mouthwatering. They had a great selection of beer too. Everything tasted like it was just picked from the garden and so fresh. Great venue, cute name, even if you sit inside you can be by the big open window for fresh air.

Great pizza

By emptynesterstravelin |

Great pizza & great dessert! We had a Steve and curt ...wish got bigger for more to take home! Don't ask how many calories .... Just eat...

Not accommodating

By erintravelsplaces |

We have heard really great reviews about this place and were disappointed in the process. We were a large group and were told it would take 2 1/2 hours to get a table. The mobile management system was very poor and told us we were still an hour away from our table, but then got a notification that our table was ready. Then we were seated at a table that fits maybe. 6 people and we had to squeeze. Waiter was somewhat helpful but this was a BAD experience for me.

FUN VIBE SUPER FRIENDLY

Excellent

By Cathi M |

The atmosphere is great. The staff is fast and friendly. The guy at the door cards the young people. We ate here for supper. An excellent variety of pizza and appetizers. We had the Mike . The 14 inch was perfect for two people, we even had 2 left over pieces. Will most definitely return when I visit the area again .

Unbeatable Vibes

By maggiefrick |

We stopped here for drinks on a Friday afternoon to warm up and regroup. The waitstaff was awesome and came to check on us many times. We didn't get a chance to try the food but everything we saw looked good. Great cocktails and decent beer selection. Fun times!!

Pizza!

By aphillips005 |

Pizza was fair and average. Not bad, but nothing to rave about. Breadsticks with cheesy sauce was about average. Service was below average. After waiting for more than thirty minutes, stuck at a two-top table in the hallway to the bathrooms. With all of the options in Chicago, will not return.

no doubt best bbq chicken pizza I have ever had

By kjm445 |

I totally wish I came here for dinner instead of a post-show bar scene. I want to try everything else. The bbq chicken pizza was EASILY one of THE BEST pizzas I have ever had. We also ordered a meatball appetizer and let's just say there weren't any leftovers. Our drinks were also delicious and creative! Service was super friendly and fast. Prices were reasonable for the area! Super cool inside too, definitely worth checking out! Go with a big group so you can order more!

Fun, casual brunch spot

By cme119 |

We were looking for a casual brunch spot (nothing you needed to dress up nicely for) and we found Happy Camper at the suggestion of our friend from the city. Keep in mind they have bingo on Sundays at 1:30, so they got a little busy towards the end of our brunch. Bloody mary's were great and service with a slice of gold pizza on top with a Miller High Life chaser. For brunch, the chicken and waffles and pulled pork hash were very good. Service was a little slow, but it was busy.

What a great place!! Food, service and environment was fantastic……

By Sam F |

Thanks for your fine Chicago hospitality!! We went to the Camper on our last day and returned in the evening as we loved it so much. Out server Megan was an absolute delight!! Not sure who the server was in the evening but he was equally as professional and charming! We will definitely return next time we are in Chicago and will tell all our Friends….. Thanks Guys 👍👍

Buzzing!

This place has all the ingredients of a good place to eat: food, service and loads and loads of atmosphere. Interesting pizza choices. Tasty. Happy waiter with the right attitude. Enjoyed the meal.

Edgy Social Pizza Bar

By Kevin R |

Happy Camper is a happening 'camping/outdoor' themed pizzeria just inside the Wells street corridor entering the Old Town neighbor in Chicago's Near-Northside — if your not from around here is roughly 1 mile north of the river on Wells street. It's constantly packed with socialite Chicago yuppies hanging out having a good time. At Happy Camper it's always a great time. The food is great and so is the beer. They have a large variety of pizzas offering whole wheat and gluten free, however the pizza is not typical Chicago style Za. Don't get me wrong but its more of a kalamata, feta, and sundried tomato kind of pizza and not so much sausage and pepperoni. Nonetheless its delicious. They have plenty of appetizers and entries, salads and such. If your looking for some solid food and and better social experience stop in to Happy Camper before you head towards your next destination. You won't be disappointed.

Great place on Wells

By M.W. |

Very fun place with camping theme. Airstream campers for large/private parties. Husband and I shared Wells salad and Linda pizza. Perfect amount for two. Great place to go before a play at A Red Orchid Theatre just north on Wells a few blocks.

GREAT food, pretty good drinks

By Samantha S |

GREAT food, pretty good drinks but seemed like slim options unless you like beer... the decorations were beautiful!

Fun place for great pizza

By WillWork4Food |

If you are looking for great pizza, but aren’t into takeout, Dominos, and want great flavor, try happy camper. And get the pina colada

Great staff

By Apurva N |

Dined here with coworkers. I ordered a virgin Mojito and a vegetarian Calzone. The Calzone was tasty, but massive in portion, showing the American generosity in its food. The bigger focus is the drink. I received a Mojito with alcohol, when i asked for a non-alcoholic version. I made it clear that I was fine with it, that I just needed confirmation. The bartender actually made me a virgin Mojito, which he didn't need to, and was very considerate. 5 stars just for your Bartender, whose name I unfortunately wasn't able to get.

We ordered a Tony with pesto

By Scott M |

We ordered a Tony with pesto replacing the cream cheese. Super Tasty. All the staff was very friendly.

Great atmosphere, and delicious pizza

By Akia |

I freaking love the Happy Camper. This is only our 2nd time here, but both times we've been here was a blast. It's just a great place to hang out, and just have fun. The staff is always great. We had a fantastic waiter, who was very attentive, and also funny, lol. The pizza is soo good, and they have so many options. I also love the cheese bread, it's just mind blowing, really. I'm probably going to be frequenting this place a lot more when I'm in the Chi, that's how much I enjoyed it. Great job.
