I selected this sushi restaurant because of TripAdvisor and was not disappointed! My server Tiena was super nice...she helped me with my second roll selection and wow was it good. I am not sure what she called it but it had asparagus, Tuna topped with a jalapeño. I also had the rainbow roll..I was very impressed❤️ Give this place a try!

Great food! Servers are terrific! Always happy to make dishes specially to accommodate special dietary requests. Servers remember our orders from visit to visit.

The sushi rolls here were just amazing! You should definitely go with their specialities. Great service also

Was a wait for 40 min on a Wed. evening so very popular place. My son is in a wheelchair. No place for him to wait inside for our table. Navigation of the tight spaces to get to table also difficult. But the Edamame was amazing in all four flavors. And our waitress was best we have had out West.

We are well traveled through work and always try a local sushi place. Harney Sushi had some unusual items that we had to try. Having had a lite dinner at a company reception we were looking for something light, good drinks and conversation. We started with the split order of flavored edamame. Very interesting. Then we ordered one each of the sashimi dishes albacore, yellow tail and salmon. Again very interesting and tasty. Would recommend highly

It's a great spot to grab excellent food. Daytime lunch hours offer relaxed open table dinning. Go check it out!

Absolutely loved my experience at Harney Sushi! The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every sushi roll tasted amazing, and you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. Their drinks were also on point — the cocktails were delicious, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I honestly wasn’t expecting the alcohol menu to be this good, but it totally impressed me! The vibe of the place is cozy, fun, and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Definitely one of the best sushi spots I’ve tried in San Diego. Highly recommended! 🍣✨🍸

Excellent food! I loved the spicy seafood miso soup. It was a nice twist on the traditional miso. They have an excellent selection of signature rolls. And it's in Old San Diego so you can take a nice walk after eating.

I feel honored to eat Chef Javier’s sushi. I was fortunate enough to be seated at the sushi counter. It was my first time here and I found it because of other TripAdvisor reviews. I was in front of Javier and he began setting me up with nigiri after nigiri that were sliced perfectly and tasted boat fresh. He also finished me off with a roll that was not gimmicky but fun. The fish was legit, and it was a party of flavors. I’ll be back with family and friends.

My husband and I were visiting from out of town, and found Harney's on TripAdvisor. We are so glad that we took the Lyft for this! Our waiter, Jared, was super helpful with recommendations, both on the food and the sake. We started off with miso with mushrooms and smoked salted edemame. Both were delicious. For our mains, I ordered a special vegetarian roll and my husband got the special salmon of the night. Amazing. Easily the best Japanese food we've ever had. This restaurant is worth the hype, and Jared deserves a shout out for excellent service!

We met my cousin who was visiting on business and had an exceptional meal. A good selection of rolls that were beautifully prepared and presented. Well done!

I love coming here for dinner with friends. So many drink options and sushi options too. I always recommend this place to my guests.

Based upon TA prior reviews, I booked our first time visit to Harney Sushi about 4 hours prior to arrival. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our table to be ready. It's a relatively small place but a nice homey atmosphere. Loved the music playing in the background all night. We were fortunate to be seated next to some local "regulars" who suggested a couple of fabulous off-the-menu items. First, we thoroughly enjoyed amazingly tender melt-in-your-mouth sliced sashimi albacore tuna called Unwritten Law-Bacore. A luscious flavor! Our other was a sushi roll called Rasta Tori, consisting of cubes of raw poke tuna on top of a base of cream cheese, avocado and diced shrimp pieces with a to-die-for heavy eel sauce with spicy cream like "dots". Fabulous! The only negatives were slow service and very pricey hot green tea. Others that came into the restaurant after us received their orders before us. Considering that servers are getting an extra percentage of gratuity as mandated by management, the service needs to ratchet up just a bit. Notwithstanding, I would go back to Haney Sushi in a heartbeat, and will do so on my next visit to San Diego

Service and atmosphere was amazing and the food - spectacular! Reservations are best, as there is typically a wait, but the wait is well worth it!

Each time I go I start with the Soy Truffle & garlic manchego Edamame. Every dish has lived up to my expectations. Its a small but mighty restaurant and worth the wait if you ever have one.

Wow! Sit at the bar and ask for Gabriel. This is probably the best sushi I've ever had. Unique taste and flavor. Top notch!

Great service and food. The black cod is super delicious along with the salmon. I also highly recommend the shishito peppers!

Harney Sushi is one of the best sushi spots in San Diego! Fresh fish, creative rolls, great vibes, and excellent service. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended!

We had a great dinner last night. The food was amazing !! We had the Javier ceviche it was top tier a must have ! My wife had the lychee martini it taste amazing. Manny was are server. He was great ! Very friendly and knowledgeable! I’ll definitely be coming back !

We had a birthday dinner here, and hopefully it was because of the new server, but SLOW service! My husband and I both had Chimichurri steak, which didn't arrive until after our sons were done with their sushi. There was a mixup with theirs, too, as they confused their orders and put the wrong sushi on the other plate! When we asked where our meal was, our server said 10 more minutes (this is after waiting 40 minutes!). It was thin try-tip and only needed to be cooked for a few minutes! When the server saw our faces drop, he said "8 more minutes!" On the positive side, the steaks were great as was the sushi. My son comes here often and says this has never happened. So we'd probably come back as the food is very good!

Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere. The environment is great, and the service brings the food out quickly. Love Harney!

This was our first trip to San Diego, and it was the second meal in the city. Our experience was excellent, and it was the best meal we have had in a long, long time. We started with sesame-bacon edamame which was perfectly cooked and just spicy enough. Next we shared the yellowtail ceviche, and it was definitely the best ceviche we ever tasted, complete with rice chips. The entrees were grilled chicken Yakisoba noodles and a caterpillar roll made with black cod. Both were top rate. The service was excellent as well. Don’t miss this sushi gem in old town San Diego!!

Trustee trip advisor and feel let down. Didn’t honor res. Got seated 30 min late. Only thing I liked was mellow yellow. Everything else very mediocre. Rolls Royce, truffle, shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, tuna tataki.

My wife and i love going to Harney whenever we find ourselves in Oceanside. The downtown area has really been nicely renovated and the food at Harney is always fresh. Great service. Highly recommend.

Been a longtime customer here, through new owners and staff cuz its been sooo long but they kept strong with the quality and experience. Harneys is an overall experience! My recommendations from start to finish. to start:mixed greens salad(BEST dressing ever. I could drink it!), shishito peppers, truffle edamame. rolls:rolls royce, flaming lip, maui wowie. dessert:Perfect strawberry with green tea and vanilla ice cream. orgasm in your mouth! ENJOY!!!

Neat. Food is fresh. Service could be faster, but hey it's not McDonalds after all :) Pricing is average for San Diego. Recommended :)

The sushi, drinks, atmosphere, and staff all combine for an amazing experience here. I recommend this restaurant to all sushi lovers

The restaurant has a great ambiance The chairs are extra comfortable. Staff is very knowledgeable & makes great recommendations! They actually have beautiful menus you can read !! Some of my Favorite rolls are Rollz Royce, Bruce Lee roll, hippie roll And katsu chicken is to die for

The sushi was fresh and sweet - light and creamy. The Mongolian beef was delicious. The service was delightfully friendly and helpful. At 6:00 p.m. the place was packed with an hour's wait. We were able to leave our name and cell number with the hostess and walked back to our hotel for a fresh-up before dinner. We walked back at 7:00 p.m. and sailed right in.

Kids and I ate here while vacationing in San Diego. Cool location in Old Town. Sushi was yummy- not cheap of course, but good. I would skip the cheesecake for dessert. Not that good. Our favorite was the spider roll.

Fresh, Delicious & Sustainable Fish! That about sums up the wonderful quality of Harney’s fish selections. This was our second time here and defiantly overdue for a review! We sat at the bar, as it’s always entertaining to watch the sushi chef make everything. We ordered the Chef Special Sashimi (omakase), ika nigiri, Sea Spider roll, a spicy scallops roll, and 4 large hot sake. The fish (and squid) were all really fresh and delicious. I don’t usually like salmon, but their New Zealand caught salmon was so good that I ate a few slices! The Hawaii caught Ahi was excellent! The textures, flavors and appearance of everything was top quality. Service was attentive and warm. I usually don’t expect too much from sushi/sashimi places that aren’t filled with Japanese sushi chefs, but Harney’s has surprised me... the quality of their fish and ingredients definitely speaks for itself.

Did you know this company created a standard of excellence that the rest of San Diego follows for quality high grade sushi? I think they also set the standard for excellent customer service. Worth the trip to Old Town.

It has great food. The ambience is good. Unfortunately the menu is a bit on the pricy side. Sometimes, the wait time is too long. But over all it is a great sushi place in San Diego.

My fiance and I went to Harney for a date night, had a wonderful experience! We shared a nice bottle of white wine and enjoyed delicious sushi. Highly recommend this place!

Excellent sushi-the pirate roll, the Bumble Bee roll, yummy and wonderful fresh fish used on the rolls. Eating here is always a great experience and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful as well.

8 of us went out for some sushi. The sushi was good and some great combinations. The atmosphere was not great, the service was not great, the location was not great, the toilets where nasty... In summary, good sushi but they need to step up the game in all other areas.

The service was pleasant, attentive and well paced. We enjoyed the sushi that we had and the waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu to us first-timers for sushi. Food was competitively priced without being cheap. The downside for us was the outside "garden" that we were sat - uncomfortable plastic chairs, with the table and chairs on an uneven surface, partly overlooking the bins and partly overlooking the toilet block. I find it hard to unserstand why this place is #5 on tripadvisor in all of San Diego.

Came here with our family of five, all adults. The sushi rolls were excellent. We ordered California rolls, spicy tuna, sweet potato rolls, salmon and avocado rolls, the Pirate rolls and the Rolls Royce rolls. All of them were very good. And the rolls are large too, bigger than your average rolls. I'd give them five stars but they are expensive and the service was good but not great - small things like I asked for a "couple of forks" and pointed at all of us and they literally brought us two forks, asked them to clear some plates and they took two, and they never asked me if I wanted a second Sapporo, but as I said small things. Would definitely recommend it. Oh, and it's a block from Old Town too, a good location for a stroll after dinner.

We had a great time in this place, the food was also excellent. They had good sake too. Give it a try.

We found this place years ago. The sushi is so good. We love everything on the menu. The parking can be a challenge, but worth the hassle. I would make a reservation for sure.

A great dinner spot. Having eaten a lot since arriving in America, we fancied something a bit healthier and found Harney Sushi a short distance from our hotel. We arrived during happy hour and got a few beers with some gyoza while browsing the menu, before ordering various selections of rolls. A great selection and everything is made fresh, it really all tasted amazing. Staff were really friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. Would recommend to others!

Amazing food, quality and service !! I strongly recommend this restaurant. Without forgetting to mention it is such a great ambience!! Wonderful experience. We will be back for sure

Stopped at old downtown San Diego on a windy September evening looking for high quality sushi restaurant . Old downtown San Diego is one of the coolest place to visit regardless of the purpose of your visit. We went with the soft shell crab roll, spicy yellow tail roll and the spicy California roll all we’re behind great worth a visit whenever I’ll be in the area. Thumb up at Ofer’s scale

Stopped by after a day of walking Old Town. Restaurant is just a block or two from Old Town. Nice neighborhood with many dining choices. This was an excellent choice. We had the Sushi Party for two (enough for three or four, but we managed). Went well with a nice cold IPA draft. Eight pieces of sushi and three rolls beautifully presented on a platter.

Harney is always exciting with their unique rolls. The servers are always pleasant and helpful in selections.

Tucked away in Old Town San Diego. Amongst all the great Mexican restaurants in Old Town, Harney Sushi is one of our favorites. Sushi is good, and we love the atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Good fresh sushi in old town. There's usually a wait, so make a reservation. They have great traditional sushi and a huge selection of specialty rolls/fusion sushi and other entrees.

I'm sorry for the delay but it irks me to see this place at the top of ANY list. I worked in the area 15 years ago and this place was good back then. We went for dinner in October of 2023 as we had business in the area. It was the most uninspired sushi we've ever had in a restaurant. The menu was boring and the food was blah.

We almost opted for the more conservative Sushi place nearby, but were extremely satisfied with our choice. First, our bartender Alex(We sat at the bar)could not do enough. He recommended the Rolls Royce and Osean rolls, with no rice ,per our request, and a steak roll that was phenomenal. Very different, but top notch quality. We Sat at the bar, and loved the ambiance, not too loud, or crowded. This is probably one of our top 3 sushi places we have visited in the last year.(sorry Nobu)

Had a lovely meal together with friends. Tried 5 different specialty rolls and one nigiri, the rolls were all good, my favourites were the Bomb James Bomb and Culichi wa roll. The food was so good that we had to order one more roll. The rolls are 8 pieces and are perfect for sharing between 4 people

A friend who previously lived in San Diego recommended Harney to me for when I visited. Dropped by for a late lunch and order the Sushi Party combo that included a Cali Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and a Flaming Lip Roll. It was delicious! The flaming lip roll especially - so spicy without being too overpowering. Loved it! I was visiting solo, but finished the entire platter on my own - just could not let it go to waste. Harney is on my list of places to eat the next time I am in San Diego. Highly recommended.

The food was excellent in a slightly funky space. The music was a little loud making conversation difficult but the quality and flavors made up for it.

I went to this restaurant with my wife, son and daughter-in-law. Without reservation the waiting time is around one hour which is not bad. The place in a Friday night was full. Consider also they don’t have parking so took us a while to find a space some distance to this restaurant. We were seated in the Suchi bar. We were not asked for drinks but given water which was refilled during all our stay. Our orders were taken by Javier one of the sushi chefs. We enjoyed immensely his recommendations of rolls. We ate Bruce Lee, Rolls Royce, and three other ones all excellent presentation and tasty being the Bruce Lee the best. I would have love some plum wine, sake or any other drink but we enjoyed so much the experience of tasting the creations by Javier that did not mattered much. For reference this happened 7:45pm 10 May 2019

I called on a Wednesday night while in town to see about a reservation and was told they weren’t taking any more that night. I just so happened to be in the area around 2:00 for a late lunch the next day and the timing was perfect. Hardly a crowd! I was served promptly, and ordered the lunch #7, teriyaki chicken with a spicy tuna roll. The roll was wonderful, and the chicken was even better. It was smothered in vegetables and wonderful sauce, with a spoonful of rice to the side. Beautiful presentation and excellent service. I’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

Seriously! The most delicious, artfully crafted & sustainable sushi you will ever have! The Rolze Royce is my personal favorite, but anything I've tried has been Magic!

Great food and our server manny had great recommendations such as the fire rari and rollz royce roll. We also had the lychee Martin 10/10

After reading the rave reviews we made a visit and were not disappointed! We ordered 2 specialty rolls, the rollz Royce and the lightening roll - they were absolutely amazing, maybe the best rolls I’ve ever had!!! We also ordered the spicy salmon and scallop, they were OK but nothing compared to the specialty rolls! So happy we went here for dinner!!!

Sushi in old Town does not make sense, but it seems to be working for this little spot. Awesome rolls and yummy salads make this a go to for us on our next stay in San Diego.

Some of the best and most creative 🍣 dishes in San Diego! We had live uni and it was the 💣 amazing craft cocktails too.

This restaurant felt like your favorite bar, but it has better sushi than most very high end restaurants. Try the Tickled Pink- it was amazing. We used the chef's special as a base and built on it. You won't be disappointed. They have a wide selection of sake, though I was in the mood for a cider that night. Warning- it was packed, dark, and a bit loud, but we loved it.

We were not very keen on this place because they had rolls only. Not the best we have experience so far. Additionally we were traveling with kids and the place does not really cater them.

I had an exceptional experience at this sushi restaurant -- the freshness of every dish was unreal, the flavors were rich and clean, the presentation was elegant without trying too hard, and the service was genuinely impressive with a team that stays attentive, warm, and professional from the moment you walk in until you leave, making the whole visit feel effortless and absolutely worth repeating.

Service was absolutely unmatched, food beats any other sushi place. The environment was amazing and no other sushi place compares to harney. If you like fish and steak together you should definitely try the o sider and nikki was an amazing server. Treated us so amazing, were kind and amazing

Always great. Excellent quality. Atmosphere is fantastic and lively. Get there early for best seating or prepare to wait...which is half the fun! Live DJ is on hand giving you an experience to remember

Great food. Nice place. Would go again sushi had a large variety. Miso soup was excellent with mushrooms

Amazing sushi! Our server was amazing! Recommendations were on point. Toro was amazing! Sushi was amazing! Sashimi was amazing! Nigiri was amazing!

I have been to Harbey Sushi a few times and it’s always a good experience. Their specialty rolls are great and the Maui Waui (spelling?) roll is my favorites. Definitely you must try that one!

My boyfriend loved everything he ate. Oh boy he enjoyed all the fresh fish. I am a vegan so I enjoyed a veggie version. We both had cold beers. We had a very nice experience. Would recommend it to our friends.

Food was phenomenal, my favorite roll is the Chuck Norris. I was blown away by how great the clams and oysters were, definitely try it! Service was great and fast for how busy they were, definitely will be back!

Harney Sushi, which is now down playing the real name of the restaurant (Miso Harney) is trying to be a serious sushi restaurant, but they can't quite get there. They are still too dependent on their fancy cocktails, rolls with lots of sauces and twists and being a social scene to be a contender for a top sushi restaurant in San Diego. Heck, they aren't even the best sushi in Old Town, that honor goes to Sushi Tadokoro, which is one of the top three or five sushi restaurants in San Diego. But Harney does have its good points too. It is open to 11PM every night, which is good, they do have happy hours, also very good and they are working hard to be responsible in sustainable fish, so they get plaudits there. As a visitor to San Diego, Harney would not be my one stop for sushi, that would be Sushi Tadokoro, Sushi Ota or Kaito Sushi. As a local, Harney would definitely be in my rotation of sushi joints.

Continues to be a great venue to relax and rest great food. Check out the new sea spider: it's delicious. Lunch is a great time to go because there's no wait. Dinner gets a little busy but it's still worth it.

Most creative and delicious sushi in SD!! Nice place, excelent food!! Great service. Rollz Royz its a must.

Had 2 dinners here, and enjoyed the experience both times. Really fresh sushi and some unusual rolls (try the Bumble Bee). Also liked the basic nigiris. And the mixed tempuras go really well with sake!

Hidden Gem in Old Town San Diego! We had an amazing dining experience at this sushi spot! The variety of the menu is impressive — every roll was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The wine selection was outstanding, and the pairing advice from the staff made the meal even more enjoyable. Everyone was professional, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting — a true hidden surprise in the heart of Old Town San Diego. Highly recommended for sushi lovers looking for top quality and warm hospitality! 🍣🍷

well done sushi, creative rolls, near olde town so go for a walk afterwards and plan time for finding parking.

Ambience was great, roll selection was nice, sushi was tasty. Downside was they only serve beer and sake, no liquor.

So I went based on TripAdvisor recommendations; this is one of the few times they were wrong. The atmosphere is very noisy. The staff is very pleasant and helpful I ordered miso soup ( excellent), salmon belly nigiri ( excellent) toro sashimi ( nothing special and the pieces were not cut well) , seaweed salad ( good ), oysters ( horrendous) and some mochi ice cream ( ok ) In total the food experience was mediocre taking into consideration the oysters.. without the oysters I would have given an extra star. Very expensive for the quality and very noisy

The ambience and food were amazing! Our party ordered several delicious rolls, but my favorite was the Bruce Lee. Will definitely be back!

Today I went With my family to Harney Sushi in San Diego and the hostess was very rude and descriminate because we have children, I am really upset and I will send a complain to the mayor for descrimination, how can tolerate a company who offers service and descriminate people 😱😱😱

So we went to old town to check out this sushi place. It's a cool spot, has been there forever it seems. Not the most amazing sushi though and the edamame was mid. We've definitely had better sushi at other places. The prices were not amazing either. Idk if you can find a better sushi spot go for it. But if you're stuck in old town. This is the only sushi spot so go for it

Harney Sushi is by far the best sushi place I have encountered in my lifetime. Their Rollz Royce is absolutely delicious, Salmon Kama is to die for, and the mussels are mouth watering. I definitely recommend this place to everyone! Perfect for date night and for a family outing

They have a good happy hour menu for a good flight tasting of what they have to offer. As for the sushi there were a couple pieces that were very good. Then there were some pieces where the rice was too mushy and sticky.

If you love sushi, this is the place for you. Located in Old Town San Diego. Parking is a hassle but well worth it once you sample some of these delicacies.

You have to get yourself some Harney! Make sure you call ahead for a reservation. It gets packed quick. Very popular.

Eating at Harney was a very good sushi experience, we ordered 4 different specialty rolls and all tasted very fresh and tasty! does not have a full bar - beer and wine.

Amazing flavor, nice service and really clean restaurant, 100% recommended. Not only the sushi, all the food there it's really fantastic.

The food is amazing. The atmosphere is comfortable. Cost is high but location, food, and service validate the higher cost

Great place for sushi especially during the week. Parking on the weekend is at a premium. Right in Old Town.

Harney sushi year after year is the most consistent place for sushi. In my opinion they always have the freshest fish and the saki selection is vast.

My wife and I love this place because we love sushi and also concerned about sustainability. Harney has both bases covered. The menu has a lot of variety, the rolls and nigiri are styled up and taste amazing! Big fan of the faux-nagi sauce! They serve beer and wine/saki and have some clever saki-based cocktails as well.

We had a delightful experience at Harney Sushi! Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, guiding us through our choices with a friendly smile. To top it off, the owner himself greeted us warmly, showing genuine care for his customers and their feedback. A perfect blend of excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommend!

If you like Rolls rather than Sushi this a possibility, very short on Sushi and Sashimi fish. Service was excellent but given a choice I will not return.

Harney Sushi is an amazing experience! We have been coming for years and have never been disappointed. The service is amazing the staff are attentive and there to share their knowledge if you get stuck trying to make a decision. The Sushi is great, my favorite is the "O'sider Roll." However last night tried the "I Dare You Roll" definitely a must for those that like a little spice.

Acai bowls & other healthy fast food. Great flavor. Only bad is long lines but that's because it is so good.

I go to Harney’s pretty often. Even though i find their customer service can use quite a lot of improvement, their food never disappoints. If you’ve never had the Rolls Royce, I highly recommend it. For me, I personally come back just because of my love for their Rolls Royce.

As always, the Katsu chicken was fantastic. Crunchy, yet tender and juicy. Friendly efficient server and nice atmosphere.

Excellent food and service. Pleasant atmosphere for a "dating" dinner. Easy location to walk to Old Town to enjoy the fun spots it offers. Four, not five stars, because I feel it is a little pricey although I do have to say the taste and appearance of the food probably does justify the cost.

Spectacular Sushi! This place had loads of great reviews and I often tend to be cautious of public opinion, I was positively starving after a long journey, so I got to ordering two of the most important items first: oysters on the half shell and gyoza, Both were pure perfection. The oysters came with Mignonette sauce and one that may have been ponzu, but both were delicious and complementary. I was still hungry, so I ordered two sushi rolls, one was soft shell crab and salmon, the other a spicy tuna roll. These were just what I needed and I chatted with a few other customers, both locals. Before I could think, food was gone and belly was very happy. As a solo diner, I was directed to the bar, and was well-served by the amazing Jocelyn, who gave her all keeping drinks full and replacing plates with new gems of seafood delicioousness. If I return to San Diego, this place is at the top of my re-visit list!

Harney Sushi is one of the top two sushi places in San Diego. Let the chef choose and enjoy the variety,

Charming ambiance, great service, delicious food and drinks. Such a great spot in old town, San Diego!

Great evening! Helped by super helpful waitress with a booth that suited us. Great sushi but the best was to come. I left my I-pad and papers by mistake, Blume the jet lag. Left a message the next day and thrilled when the team reached out by phone and e-mail to say everything was safe. Above and beyond!

...and she knows her sushi. This place has the regulars, but what's funnest is the specialty rolls, and the specials of the day. Also, they have a bunch of vegetarian rolls, which are tasty and makes it very convenient to get sushi with a group that includes someone so inclined. Put yourself on their mailing list and they send you coupons; the prices are in-line, but it usually gets us an extra roll or something that lets us try something we might not otherwise, and it usually pays off. Service can be spotty, especially if they are busy, but seating is comfortable, so go relaxed and stay relaxed.

Yes, a sushi restaurant in Old Town among the sea of good Mexican restaurants here. There are non-sushi items, like teriyaki and tempura as well. The decor is dark and club-like with music on the louder side. Food quality was good and prices were fair. Sat at the bar. Alex the bartender was friendly and took good care of drink and food. Employees seemed happy. We had a nice time.

From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, the service was impeccable. My server (Alicia?) brought me a carafe of water right after I sat down, and by then I figured out the QR code unlocking the menu. She helped me pick a Happy Hour appetizer made of sweet potato fries drizzled with honey and sprinkled with goat cheese crumbles, plus a curry ketchup. So decadent. I also had their version of a spider roll with extra unagi sauce. Everything came at the right time and fresh and hot. Very affordable high class food. Go here and go home happy.

In town for business and got back kind of late to grab dinner. Harney Sushi was right around the corner from the hotel. Decided to sit at the bar and we’re glad we did. Our bartender, Alex, was amazing. He was engaging and welcoming and readily offered us suggestions based on our preferences. The special (Carol Danvers) was a marvel. Tuna, blackberries, kumquats, citrus syrup, and small salad. Out of this world. We finished off with the culichi wa roll and then a green tea dessert with tempura strawberries. Highly recommend Harney Sushi. Sit at the bar and have some fun trying different dishes.

A friend recommended it. I went on a Sat night and ate at the bar. Had the best service and great conversation with the bartender. Food came quickly and was excellent. Fresh and beautifully prepared. The only problem was that the night ended too soon. I'll be back.

Would highly recommend this restaurant for good sushi at a reasonable price! The service was great and everyone was super friendly.

As a lover of raw fish, I am always on the lookout for a good sushi spot. This trip Harney Sushi was on deck. Let me first say the service was impeccable. Everybody who came to our table was friendly and professional. On the food end, it was good but not great with the exception of the lightning roll and salmon/avocado roll. They were delicious and super fresh. The sashimi was alright but it was cut non-uniform and the tuna did not have that saltwater test or deep color I look for in fresh fish. Also ordered the black cod based on reviews, but did not realize it was bbqd like eel usually is- it was tender and tasty, but not what I was looking for when I ordered off sashimi menu. Overall, it was fine just not as good as I expected. I did appreciate the sustainability overview on the menu and the fact that Harney is committed to it. The interior is very dark so if you go, ask for seats on the sushi bar side.

Our last evening of our San Diego trip and we wanted sushi. We read the reviews and made our decision. It was super busy and there was a wait but fortunately there were 2 seats at the bar. Delightful experience! Not only was our food great but the bartender gave us some of the best service we’ve ever had. She helped me choose between two sushi rolls and I tried a drink called Cilantro Mist. Then we had the tempura cheesecake for dessert. Excellent! We can’t wait to go back

This is a must visit when in town. Great atmosphere, happy hour and one of the best sushi restaurants around

I have been having Sushi for over 30 years so I a little experience. This was one of the best ever! My first time eating black cod. Those hand rolls are delicious I could go back and just order those. Of course I also would not leave without eating the sea bass truffle sushi, the ikura and sea spider! A most repeat!

We had a pretty great dinner tonight at Harney Sushi. The waitress was very quick and friendly. She was able to keep up with our orders - apparently we were very thirsty and hungry. The food itself was great. The price was okay.

Sushi was amazing! Fresh, creative combos, several good beers on tap including Sapporo. We ate at the bar as the tables were all full on a Sunday night without a reservation. We had 4 delicious rolls and then shared the mochi ice cream (2 balls, split in two, served at the perfect temperature - recommend the green tea over the strawberry which was a bit too sweet ). Prices are reasonable (additional cost to park in lot in front of the restaurant). I’d give 5 stars for the food, service, and ambiance but several of the glasses were really dirty.

All of Harney Sushi Old Town menu is amazing but if you go here, you MUST try this sashimi dish called Unwritten Law-bacore. You will thank me. I am addicted to this!!! Seared albacore sashimi, jalepeno, garlic, seared in ponzu. I can't eat just one, I always end up ordering two.

Good customer service and good food And it’s a nice place to go on a date but they don’t have any type of eel

As an Asian food lover i can tell this restaurant is a must visit. The sushi is delicious! I suggest to do a reservation before you go cause it's a very popular restaurant and it gets packed quickly. The service is really good, they are really friendly and caring about your experience in the restaurant.

Harney has the very best Sushi in San Diego, it's always fresh and the creations from their Chef are unique and delicious. Reservations are strongly recommended , only street parking available and can be difficult to find a spot. It is pricey but it's worth every penny.

nice sushi restaurant, small and crowded, mostly for younger clouds. noisy but rolls are good. Super busy on weekends

This place is amazing! The vibes were good. The sushi were excellent. I loved the Mellow Yellow rolls. Best sushi restaurant.

If you can, make a reservation, but they also can accommodate walk ins. It's a little dark in the restaurant but there's also a really cool outdoor seating area. The menu is huge, so we asked the server for recommendations and really enjoyed all the specialty rolls we tried. They are pretty large rolls and have some interesting combinations, so order 1 or 2 rolls per person and share!

Went here on the last night of our group vacation and we were blown away. This was one of the most deliciously hand crafted, fresh sushi I've eaten. The rice was perfectly cooked and the flavors married together so well. My favorites were the Culichi Wa and Hope specialty rolls. They had live music when we arrived and a nice (but a bit too dark) ambiance. The happy hour drink specials were nice too! Plenty sake and beer for sake bombs.

Our 18 year old declared the Rolls Royce sushi roll the most delicious sushi she's ever had! I had the Miso Polenta and it was super delicious as well. The vegetarian fried rice was good, not excellent. Beware - everything is very expensive.

Location: easy to find it and park by. Service: friendly staff and available to suggestions. Food: amazing taste and pretty good selection of dishes. Also some interesting alternative interpretations of the classic one are available. Prices: regular

Even though it doesn't look like a kid friendly place, the staff was great with my two five year olds. They even have a kids bento box with chicken teriyaki for non sushi eaters. The food was great. The water tasted great (compared to water at other restaurants in San Diego). The atmosphere was chill. I'd go back with or without kids.

If you're in and about Old Town, and not looking for Mexican food, Harney Sushi is a find. Great sushi, reasonable prices and excellent service. I had the "Bomb James Bomb" - just enough of a spicy kick to the scallops to make them extra interesting. We also had an order of Tempura Shrimp - excellent and the third person had the O'Sider #55 roll - anice combo of spicy crab, shrimp tempura topped with a thin slice of NY strip. Our meal for 3 with drinks and tip came to $100. We got there at 8:30 on a Sunday night and it was still crowded. Parking can be a hassle - we parked a block away. But would I go back - absolutely.

We love sushi and have been to many Japanese restaurants, some great others maybe not so great. Harney Sushi falls into the very great category ~ deserves 5*. Again after checking out reviews, we decided to try it. Arrived for lunch and ordered two lunch specials to share which had assorted tempura, California and spicy tuna rolls and chicken teriyaki over a delicious bed of veggies. Everything we ate was super fresh and very delicious. We left feeling very satisfied and have put in on our return to list when we’re back in town.

Smells good. Menu looks good. Was sat at sushi bar and waiter brought me a drink. He never came back. Couldn’t order. Left. I really wish I could have spent my 50$ here, but oh well, no sushi tonight.

I love the fact that this place has sustainable sushi. It is always fresh and melts in your mouth. They have such creative rolls here, you can't really go wrong with any of them. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. They have a great happy hour and the prices may seem a little higher than your average sushi spot, but this place's quality can't be beat!

I had heard and read about Harney Sushi so I decided to try it and I was very happy I did. The chefs are very skillful and make really good bites. The prices are more accessible than in other more exclusive sushi bars but that may have to do with quality and availability of fish and seafood. It is a very pleasant, friendly place with indoor and outdoor options. The service is always good and I have never left the place unsatisfied. Surprisingly though, it is located in Old Town, a tourist area dedicated to the Mexican culture. Go figure.

The rolls are fabulous and the staff is fun and engaging. Lot’s of alcohol choices for those interested and kid friendly as well. Very impressed with all of it!

Some of the best sushi I have eaten, and some great sashimi. I also enjoyed the vibe of this place had a great female singer singing with her guitar. She played songs from Led Zeppelin to the Goo Goo Dolls, nice and mellow.

I am allergic to shellfish so have avoided seafood my entire life. I am also a vegetarian. So sushi wouldn't be a natural choice for dinner. But, Harney sushi has the BEST vegetarian sushi ever! Love the ambiance, drink menu and music vibes. All around a great evening out for girls night or date night!

There was eight (8) of us. We were one the first to be seated (5:30ish pm). We order pretty much double of every Happy Hour food, beer and warm saki (large) minus the salad. Then we order 3- maybe 4 entree items and we were FULL! OMG! This is way to go . . early!

Whether you want to sit at a table or sit at the sushi bar, you will not be disappointed at Harney's! Great service, great atmosphere and the food is amazing! If you like sushi and you want really good sushi...this is the place! Parking is a little tricky so you may have to walk. Try to park where you can walk thru Old Town and kill two birds with one stone!

Amazing good quality sushi, good eye appeal and service! Try something new from the menu and your taste buds will awake with delight.

Excellent spot. Menu had lots of options. Sushi sizes were good, and the flavor was excellent! We will be back to this fabulous place!

We stayed in Old Town and were looking for a break from Mexican one night. WHAT A FIND! Small venue. Reservations are required if you don't want to wait. But if you enjoy good sushi, sushi mi etc. It is worth making the plan. Then when you are done, go to the end of the block for Nitrogen ice cream! What a pallet buster!!!!

Had dinner here with three business colleagues. Restaurant was recommended by a friend of one of the group. It was my first time eating sushi. I had the Rollz Royce specialty roll it was excellent. Will definitely consider returning the next time I am in town.

On of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego, Ca,. Always great service and very original sushi rolls, anything you pick is great, the edamame’s a must.

This spot felt less like a sushi restaurant and more like an imitation sushi restaurant - much like imitation crab. The sushi was very average and the food was sloppy. It’s a busy part of town so it’s a busy spot but don’t be fooled by the number of patrons they get; there are better sushi restaurants out there unfortunately.

My fiance and I had a nice experience at Harney Sushi Sunday evening. We sat outside, great atmosphere. Our server, Thea, was very personable and accommodating. Food was excellent!

Wow. The salmon was perfect. The shrimp roll was so very good. I would totally recommend this place. Wow

Went to Harney Sushi with three others a few months ago, Service was excellent by a perky, personable waitress. We group ordered about four rolls which filled us up. Price was reasonable for touristy Old Town San Diego restaurants, all in all I would go back, always a good sign.

The pork fried rice is one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. Wife and I went there after a work event and it was great. Music in the bar made it fun. Sushi and cocktails were excellent.

This place is awesome. So good we went for lunch and came back after surfing for dinner. Our waitresses Sarah and Jee were super nice and service was excellent. . fish is incredibly fresh...our sushi chef told us they cut the fish every day and had great suggestions for what to try. See photo below. Be sure to try the black cod! Also it’s a well run business, reservations and orders All taken by staff on tablets so Service is quick and efficient. No long waits for someone to notice you need another Sapporo. One suggestion perhaps get traditional Japanese mochi ice cream for dessert. We will go back.

This is a tiny gem located in Liberty Station. They have a great happy hour with a good 1/2 off sushi and cheap beer and wine. They are my go to place. So yummy!

We found this restaurant through Tripadvisor reviews and very much enjoyed our meal there. The table we were seated at was private and comfortable, the menu provided numerous options, and the food was beautifully presented and was enjoyed by the teenagers and the adults in our family Would definitely recommend.

The sushi was so delicious! The place was packed however we were able to sit at the bar and ordered directly with the sushi cook. The Ambiente of the place was chill and calm. I really loved the tempura sushi we had ordered. Can't remember the name but it was one of the best plate of sushi I ever tried 😍

Waiter was excellent and extremely helpful. He gave us great insight for drinks and food. The monkey brains and blistered peppers were amazing. All of the sushi was phenomenal. Our favorite was the Rollz Royce.

Highly recommended. They close at midday for a 2 or 3 hr brake so just make sure you make reserv or read schedulle before. Food delish, sustainable local fresh ingredients.

Mid-week lunch of edamame to start with miso soup and California roll combo with three nigiri (salmon, tuna, and prawn). Very tasty, filling and not too pricey. Would certainly go back to try more items on the menu.

Seems odd to come to Old Town for sushi ... but it is the best in San Diego. Surrounded by Mexican restaurants, this little place shines. Great food, attentive service -- and excellent sushi. Our fav is the one with fried shallots and peppers on top (we're vegetarians so we ask that the beef be left off). This place even caters to our vegan daughter. Can't say enough good things about Harney Sushi! Reservations recommended as it's no secret this is a great place for sushi.

My girl took me here for my birthday and I’ve always loved this place. The Sushi is awesome and the environment is fun too. Make sure you get one of their specialty rolls. Call or go online to make reservations. The wait can be long. It’s that good

San Diego offers a wide variety of sushi restaurants but this one stands ahead of many. It is in a prime location, prices are reasonable and the general atmosphere is fun and welcoming!

I have been coming here for years and every single roll I have ordered is amazing. My husband and I try not to order the same thing because you can't miss so you might as well order something new :)

Absolutely loved the ambiance and appreciated the amazing service. I tried 8 different rolls and each of them offered a different yet wonderful experience. I highly recommend this place!

An small and quaint sushi place in Old Town with great service, a full bar and all your sushi regulars, well priced with a decent CA wine list. the bar stool are a bit uncomfortable, but the sushi is and the small patio are very nice. Thy offer live music some days of the week

Went to Harney recently with some friends and we had the best time! Lively fun atmosphere with really creative delicious food!

Continues to be one of the best sushi spots in San Diego. With excellent signature rolls and entrees to choose from, this place will keep you coming back for more.

Ok it’s a 5 star food review but deducting 1 due to the ownership implementing a 4% surcharge on every receipt. Asked about it and was told so they don’t have to raise the prices. Sorry would rather you raise the price then tack on a % when I’m already paying a lot! I hate that kind of stuff. I’m sure many complain due to them having a explanation in a glass display they bring over to your table when asking about it Now you must try the spicy Juan and the Rolls Royce! Great food

This has been one of my favorite sushi places for years and it never fails to impress! Some of the sashimi is farm raised and is the most fresh and organic fish you could ever find...eat here at least once, you won't regret it!

Went for supper with a group of 8 and every single one of us were extremely happy with our dinner. I have only praises on the service and food. My only negative thing was that our table was located by the door going to the outdoor patio and we had a good cold draft. Below is what i ordered. Sea Bass Truffle Nigiri Sea bass, torched garlic, truffle oil, black sea salt Unwritten Law-bacore seared albacore sashimi, garlic, jalapeno, sautéed in ponzu Lightning Roll shrimp tempura spicy tuna topped with black cod seared tuna avocado, faux-nagi sauce, rayu Rollz Royce shrimp tempura, asparagus, topped with tuna sashimi, jalapeno, money sauce, hand seared garlic, ponzu, faux-nagi sauce

When you ask for a solid Sushi place Harney Sushi will always be recommend and when you go, you will understand why. Great deals and amazing food. Great place for a date night as you can walk around Old town before or after.

Our usual local sushi spot. Love coming here. Ordered our Osider and Konichiwa rolls and our rock star sushi chef made us a plate of Yellowtail/Amberjack sashimi. It was EEEEEPPPPPIIIIICCC!
Sushi
Very welcoming and cozy atmosphere. Food is amazing and taste fresh compared to other places. Drinks at the bar also taste good and is just an all around good place to eat and definitely not too pricey for what you could be spending on high quality sushi.
