Food is good - but the service, cleanliness need some help

By jetairbear |

I have been hearing about Harold's for a long time from all my friends from Chicago.....now we have a Harold's in ATL and I was really hungry for some fried chicken yesterday, so I thought let's try a new place. The location on Edgewood Ave is so awesome, this area of downtown has seen a resurgence in new businesses and it's right off one of the new streetcar stops...parking can be a challenge, and you will likely need to use one of the pay lots. As we entered the young lady behind the counter let us know if we were eating in, we could sit anywhere and someone would be with us.....so we immediately realized every table that was not in use was filthy...we found one in the corner near window...took some napkins out of the dispenser on the table and attempted to wipe up just a bit. 17 mins after we sat down a very pleasant young lady gave us menus and took our drink orders...do I make it a habit of timing my time spent waiting you ask ?? Only after I have been sitting for 5 mins with no acknowledgement ....you can do that math...several. Minutes later she returned with our drinks...I will point out she was the only person working the floor and the place was pretty full...she did leave and come back with a towel to clean our table, then took our orders. All food is cooked to order, so after about 20 mins of fighting the flies that seemed to be swarming the restraint...our food arrived. Everything was fresh and good...I had fried wings, and gizzards....yes gizzards...tender and not overcooked ...very good. My friend had perch and chicken and he said it was very good also. So my only real reason for probably not going back anytime soon is, general cleanliness and slow service....friendly but slow. Seems a shame since it overshadowed my experience - the 2 ladies sitting next us remarked that they had been there before and this is something of a norm....so while I recommend the food - to go is probably the best bet.

Better than Finger Lickin

I visited here on a Thursday night with friends. There were a few empty tables but not many. I'm glad we came when we did! This place fills up at night, and for good reason. The chicken is that good. Now, for my tastes, I'm a spicy chicken man. However, that's not an option. Either way, I ordered the chicken n waffles. I was completely satisfied!!! Here's what I had, 2 beers, an order of jalapeno poppers, chicken n waffles basket. There only rain I couldn't give 5 stars is that they already added in the tip when presented with the check. So I thought it was taken care of. Then they bring back the signature slip and asked for another! Good thing I payed attention to the first bill or I would have double tipped... Cheers

Great first experience

Jay (I believe is his name) set up my wonderful experience from the door. Customer service was top notch. His recommendations were spot on. He recommended the cake (yellow exactly) and he is the major reason why I'm going back later on. Salute to you my friend. Seafood and down south cuisine. Outstanding. Plus quick and very fresh. A true experience.

Atlanta Trip!

By Shortii18 |

This place is very popular. It was packed and the food is amazing. I wanted to dine in but it's every man for themselves. If you're waiting for a seat you HAVE to be on it. The staff was extremely nice, they made you feel comfortable helped you out especially for it being my first time. Next time I come to Atlanta I will most definitely dine in. It seem as if it would have been an even better night if I hadn't left.

Great food and service, but...

By Bonitaruss |

Oh my and Woowooo! We truly enjoyed the fish/shrimp comb and the shrimp/wing combo! The food was HOT. Thank God because we only waited over 45 minutes for it. The meal was well priced for the amount you get. However, I must say Donna, our waitress, was upfront by telling us the kitchen was backed up and she was VERY friendly and willing to attentive to our table. Loved her. On the flip side, PEOPLE please do not bring your children or elderly family members that may be easily shocked. This place is more like a club in the hood that an eatery. Bad enough the walk down to the place from the $10 parking lot was a little on the scary side with all the folks hanging out on the street at the other businesses, but man the things you will see on the inside. Definitely for the younger folks! Nonetheless, if I feel like eating there again, I will call ahead and get it to go.

ok experience

Not too impressed by this spot. The area is does not have many parking options so I suggest stopping by on a Sunday before 3pm. The chicken was good but the waffles were overcooked and very greasy.

Good intown option

By Flyrod929 |

Had lunch based on recommendation in Atlanta Magazine. Ordered fried catfish. Small plate was plenty. Fish was very tasty especially with the tarter sauce and cold slaw. Fries were from frozen potatoes and pretty good too. Service was fine. Decor is typical in town trendy which I like. If I'm area will try again.

Chicago Harold's Chicken with and ATL twist!

By tiffanyt427 |

We visited Harold's for lunch w/ family. Being from Chicago and having first hand knowledge of Harold's chicken and sauce, we know what it's supposed to taste like. Well, ATL got the recipe. Chicken was hot and good. So was the fish. Just like the Harold's in Chi-Town. However, ATL has it set up as a bar and social club scene which is totally different than Chicago. I think this took away from them getting our food in a timely manner because the place was packed out by the time we left. We were there for about 2 and half hours. it took our food at least an hour after ordering. It was crowded there and constant traffic form kitchen to freezer. afraid the man carrying the chicken would drop it on someone. not very sanitary. I don't think raw food should be carried through the dining area or around kids and babies. However, it appears to be a good hang out spot for drinks and clubbing/socializing. Chi-Town w/ ATL twist.

Wonderful Food at Marietta Location

By humblebee4 |

I actually ate at the new location in Marietta, and the food was absolutely delicious. We were informed that this location was just as good. My husband was familiar with the restaurant while visiting Chicago years ago, so he looked forward to eating here while in the area. We had the catfish and wings platter, with mild sauce. The catfish was the best I have ever eaten, and my family truly enjoyed their meal. I look forward to eating at either location whenever I am in the area. I definitely recommend eating at Harold's.

Loved our waitress!!

By Donovan420 |

My wife and I came in on a Tuesday prior to going out to celebrate her birthday. Initially we were hesitant because we had never dined in Harolds and though it was a simple choice, I wanted her to acknowledge the thought I had put into the night ahead. We had two waitresses (Crystal and Terry) who were very helpful and welcoming. There was a $5 drink special going on and that sounded great but Crystal informed us of the all organic fruits speciality menu. We decided to have two ciroc lemonades bc she said we would only need one. We each had two! Afterwards we had catfish and wing dinner which was enough for us to share but Crystal told us we could add four jumbo shrimp for five dollars! We did! The drinks, the food, and the staff were all a great value for what we received. We are definately bringing our friends and family back to see Crystal as we promised we would return to try the perch! I am more than satisfied!

If you loved Harold's Chicken in Chicago, you have lucked up!!!

By s868957 |

Let me first start off by saying that I remember when the Atlanta Harold's Chicken location was near Clark and Morehouse in a shady part of town. Now it is in old 4th ward on Edgewood with plenty of traffic on a busy street right in front of the Atlanta trolley stop. Now for the review. Was in the area and a friend suggested we pop in. We sat at the bar and watched the basketball game and everyone there was friendly. Ordered the chicken and shrimp and didn't really hear the server asking me if I wanted the sauce on the side. I personally prefer everything doused in the sauce just like we used to get at Harold's in Chicago but once we got to eating, all was forgiven (smile). It's been a while, but once that familiar delicious non-salty taste hit my mouth, I was good. Be careful. What looks on the menu like "maybe not a lot of food" will have you asking for carryout by the time you're through.

It's all about the mild sauce

By livelife h |

If you don't like the club scene definitely going to during the week and not on the weekend. The chicken is good and the mild sauce is great. The fries are okay and I mean as a slice of bread so nothing to brag about LOL.

Great Food at a Great Price.

By zeynep d |

Was told this was one the best places to have Chicken and Waffles and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Alcoholic Drinks were a little on the expensive side but is the norm in Atlanta.

referrel gone bad

By shelly4880 |

I ordered take out with the server asking me 3 times about my order because she couldn't hear over the music...at 2 pm in the middle of the week. My co worker ordered right after me. I got my order after waiting about 10 minutes. We waited another 20 minutes for hers because the server didn't put her order through. 3 different people asked her name and what she ordered. They had the nerve to be mad at her for them screwing up her order. Food was bland no real taste. The best part of the experience was the fresh lemondade. But definitely not worth returning

Best Wings I Ever Ate!

By Julie M |

Smiling waitresses and crowded but fun atmosphere! We visited around 11pm on a Saturday Night as we were bar hopping on our visit to Atlanta. We ordered a plate of Gizzards and Wings, and one plate of Livers and Wings and they have battering and frying down to a science. This chicken was flavorful and NOT Greasy! They also have Hookah, a full bar and beer and wine available. Very loud music at this time of night and crowded but worth it - that sort of thing is fun to me especially when drinking and exploring! I would definitely go back for the chicken alone!

Never again

By Yvonne S |

This wasn't my first visit to Harold's (I've posted a review before) but it will certainly be my last. My boyfriend and I walked in and found a table. About 35 minutes passed and we were never helped. Then a group came in after us and was helped right away! We were so hungry and honestly had chicken on the brain so we went to the register to order to go. The woman was incredibly rude (something I've dealt with here before). She takes our order and we waif for our food. No one calls us to tell us it's ready even though they knew we were waiting for our order. Get the food....and it was wrong. Perhaps she should use less attitude and focus more on getting the orders right. The restaraunt is still dirty and the parking lots are shady. Won't be returning.

CST STAFF APPRECIATION

Totally Awesome atmosphere, food and customer service. The Fried Chicken Wings, OMG! The Buffalo Wings, to Die For! The Fish, Oooh Wee. We really enjoyed EVERYTHING!!

Nice Crowded Scenery

We Ordered Chicken Whole Wings And The Wings Were Juicy and Hot Not Too Small Not Too Big They Were Just Right.

Food was hot and good

By veraleka |

Came here after a concert this past Saturday. The wait was quick and the food was great. I had the catfish fillet and chicken combo. The fish had a little too much seasoning but it was fresh and hot. The music was great and they serve drinks. I did not order a drink but they had a very good selection.

Good Chi Town Chicken in ATL

By Sagiventurer |

As a fan of Chicago and it's culinary scene, I figured I would enjoy some famous Harold's chicken. It wasn't the best fried chicken ever, but didn't disappoint. It is located in the vibrant hot spot "Sweet Auburn/Old Fourth Ward". It is brimming with lots of diverse people and plenty of activity. The restaurant is a short walking distance to the eastside beltline and also set on the streetcar line. The day I dined here was the tryout for the Olympic runners. Parking is offered on the streets; however in busy downtown Atlanta, park where you can find an available space. Our waiter D Will was very courteous and attentive. We ordered cocktails. Drinks can be pricey but they give you a large amount and needless to say they pack a potent punch of flavor. The chicken took a while after ordering. When it arrived, it was hot, tasty, and had a crunchy coating. I could tell it JUST came out of the fryer judging by the freshness. Chicken is served with white bread slices for those who like to dine on fried chicken "old school" style. I chose fries as my side which were good as well. I noticed other diners preferred the cole slaw. A few advisements before your trip to Harold's: 1. I reached for the red bottle to coat my french fries with ketchup. IT'S NOT KETCHUP! It's hot sauce. You have to request it ketchup. I don't think Chi Lites are a fan of the condiment. They frown upon ketchup on hot dogs. However D Will was kind enough to provide me another order of fries at no extra charge. 2. I prefer my chicken "naked", but I hear that that sauce the wait staff provides with the chicken is really good. My dining companion is a southside Chi Lite and co-signs that it's the only way to eat your Harold's chicken. 3. The daytime vibe is that of a casual restaurant. At night, the restaurant turns into a nightclub. Proceed with caution... What I enjoyed the most about Harold's (besides the cheap delicious eats) is the atmosphere. The restaurant played 1990s R&B, making it very comfortable and nostalgic. I LOVE the 1990s. Any place serving me SWV, Monica, Silk, and Jon B along with my food is after my heart. It also feels good to support a black owned small business.

The food was ok the service was horrible need work and better attitudes.

By Bekiwi |

Went to Harold's Atlanta for the first time I have been there in Chicago and I thought it was the most amazing chicken shaw I ever been to so I was very excited to go when I found out they moved here to my surprise my experience was down played the service and workers had the worse attitudes and they did not care that you felt that way guess they figure if the food is good service didn't need to be I was charged ,27 cent for a cup of water after waiting almost a hour for food they completely ignored us the entire visit and the manager was just as bad as the servers would never go back there again

Never Judge A Book By Its Cover!!

By reednikki |

Pleasantly surprised! In a good way!!!! So my husband who has never been to Atlanta suggested this place after our tour of the Martin Luther King memorial park. When we first walked in I wanted to walk out. Never judge a book by its cover! Food amazing, drinks Amazing! Service Amazing!! Better than 5 star places thar we've been to around the world. I told my husband that If we were staying longer in the ATL, that I would've wanted to return to this restaurant. Shame on me for judging this place. I apologize and will return if our travels take us back to the ATL! Keep on Keeping on!!!

First time visit

By Tanitra P |

My family and I visited Harold's on a Friday afternoon. My family group was a 23 yr old, 22 yr old, 14 yr old and me(we will just call me over 35 yr old). You seat yourself and then the waitress came for our drink order. First I want to inform everyone that it is a family restaurant in the daytime but as the evening starts it turns more to an after-work hangout and then a total bar or club atmosphere. The place is decent, small but neat, nice art on the walls, music was playing, and there are televisions on the walls. Then the food - it was happy hour and wings were 99 cents each for whole wings. So we had a mess of whole wings, a chicken tenders basket and a bbq wing ding basket. Everything was amazing. Hot, fresh, well seasoned, and just plain good! No one had any complaints about their order. They also have this cool, interactive texting experience that let's you text words and pictures to the television screens and they keep rotating with music videos. It was a fun addition to our outing. In conclusion, I highly recommend a visit to Harold's Chicken....Go for the food and then have a little fun!

Great Place, Great Food

Went to Harold's for the Wednesday WindDown after party. Great place the bartender's are very nice, the chicken and shrimp I had was good. The drinks were good me and my friends had a great time, I look forward to going back.

Whaaaat?! Harold's in the "A"!

By Blue2013 |

I had no idea there was a Harold's Chicken in Atlanta, GA. While visting over the labor day weekend this year, it was recommended that I go, since I'm from the CHI. If your not hip, Harold's Chicken is a CHI staple. Well the "A" took the chicken shack to another level. Music, loud and beatin, like I like it (Trap, and hip hop). Yeaaaaaaaa. The drinks were FANTASTIC! The energy was positive and fun. And the FOOD! (I just died) No, it doesn't taste like Harold's at the crib. It taste like some good ole fried chicken, fish and shrimp. It's all seasoned and battered perfectly. O! The HOOKA! I almost forgot. They have HOOKA! My sister and I had a ball. U gotta check it out.

The place was good and unpretentious

By Jay_804_24-7 |

Went to Harold's late one Sunday night. There were plenty of people walking up and down the street outside. Some were on their way somewhere and some of them weren't... I ordered large chicken gizzards after they were recommended to me by someone that wanted me to compare them to Chik-A-Sea gizzards in Newport News, VA. They were hot, fresh and came right out to me. I intended to order take out, but after waiting to place my order and hearing Future and other local musicians playing on the radio, I decided to stay. The chicken was amazing! The atmosphere was amazing! Everybody was just relaxed and minding their own business. Oh and in case you are wondering, Harold's gizzards were better than Chik-A-Sea. I wrote this review the way that I talk so there you have it.

Twice the visit and twice the smell

By Prentice H |

I never thought I would say this being from the south side of Chicago and actually meeting the real Mr. Harold's on Stony Island at one of his oldest shacks that is no longer there. But This place gave me a not so home grown Harold and not to mention the price is way to much and the sauce was better the second time, but I could not stay in the place because of the bad smell. But I can wait until I go back home to visit to get me some REAL Harold's chicken. But if your just looking for a place to grab a drink and some chicken then this is the place for you. The owners were somewhat rude to me when I went in for the first time, and customer service is not great at all. I guess its just for people who want that type of environment and that is ok for someone else but not for me.

Had a blast!

By Pastor Eric S |

Loved this place. Lively and urban environment. Greets you with thumping music, lots of folks and good socializing. Catfish was amazing, the wings were *almost as good as Chicago. Great location in NE/SE area. Has a bar inside with an awesome staff.

Chicken and drankz

By Kim M |

Stumbled upon this place after visiting The King Center. Sweet potato tater tots with caramel sauce, fried okra, wings, a fish sandwich cooked to perfection and a fun happy hour cocktail menu. Sauces superb. Super attentive wait staff.

Chicken Dinner at Harold's on Roswell Rd

By Fenecia L |

Terrible! Look at my chicken dinner! Looks like dried blood and hard gizzards. They must have dropped my chicken back in the grease because my chicken wings were ready in 5 minutes after placing the order inside the restaurant. If it wasn't pouring raining, I would have blessed the manager with his dinner. To top it off, I paid nearly $22 after his automatic 20% gratuity on carry-outs. I'm furious to say the least! God got it!!

Something Has Changed!!!

By Valarie B |

Something has changed. My husband and I visited this establishment today in Duluth, GA and the chicken was unacceptable. We always love to eat here but today’s meal was very disappointing. They seem to have changed the breading and overcooked the chicken. I asked the waitress about it and she said it was the same as always. She took it back and brought another serving. I took it home and had to trash it after tasting it. We won’t ever return to the Duluth location. It’s just not worth it.

this was a different experience

By Orallygifted |

I'm use to walking in a place and being greeted, but I didn't get that here. I had to get out of my seat to request a drink, Food is so good tho.

Want to try because I have family in CHITOWN

By Cmp1130 |

Ok let me start off by saying when you walk in, it has a sign to seat yourself. Now that's fine if you have someone notifying the wait staff where customers are sitting. 10 minutes no acknowledgement so I asked the young man 2 chairs over and he stated horrible service took 15 minutes to get a waitress. So I ask the lady behind the registrar. The waitress states I will be there in a few. No eye contact. Now I order my food got the drink and water in a time,y manner. The kitchen bought my food no silverware or napkins 😒 Now I have to get someone attention again for a fork to eat, my waitress never came over and asked if everything is ok. Halfway thru eating who arrives my waitress, Honestly the food is OK! I could go to Popeyes for better chicken and friend catfish. Now the killer my bill comes and its 32.07, mind you my meal is 11.95 and my drink is 13.50. I don't get an itemized bill just the customer receipt and the merchant copy to sign. I ask and state in GA you are not to include gratuity automatically. She states I will give you the tip back. That's not the point! How many customers don't read their bill and sign. Never again, and I will let ALL MY FRIENDS NEVER GO HERE!

Great!!

By Queen B |

It was a really nice experience and great food!! The staff was nice and the place was clean l. Definitely somewhere I'd go again.

An Atlanta twist on Chicago Street food

By charles v |

Atlanta is a party/business city, so naturally that same vibe flows into its establishments work hard play hard. This location is a prime example of that concept. The food is average and the service is unprofessional, but it’s to be expected when you’re dining at a restaurant straddling the fence of a nightclub. Great for young college students or anyone who doesn’t mind being imurssed in music and ignored by staff then pay an 18% gratuity after 9pm for lackluster service. The plus side is that they serve their target customers well and they are happy.

Just chicken..,

By Stephanie M |

This is a very cool hot spot and I've literally had Harold's in Chicago several several several times but maybe this was just a rush job because they were busy BUT the wings wasn't good. I've had better at Popeyes lol. Again the atmosphere was nice ( a good little hangout for friends) but the wings just wasn't good. I only had two wings and they were little and not seasoned. The waiter was very nice and the music was good but this night I've had better wings. I will try them again b4 going back to Harold's in Chicago but boi thing spectacular as far as taste.

Catfish...yaasss!

By Regberly |

Stopped by on a Friday evening before catching a flight back home (close to the airport) and had the catfish and wing combo. If you cannot do fried food, this is not the place for you. Hearing about it on the radio, I was thinking it would look different but it was a down home place with some GREAT catfish. It was fried a bit hard which was perfect. I would skip the combo next time and just get the catfish. Our waitress was very attentive and we had fun with the 87.7 radio station that was there. I would go back again when visiting ATL. We found parking on a side street although we heard there was parking behind the building. The place is small so get there early on Friday for happy hour. No need to go dressed up, just throw on some jeans and kick it.

Food gets 5 stars / atmosphere brings it down to 4.

By JayJayByrd |

First off - I used to live in Chicago - so I was a skeptic when I walked in the doors. We walked in and the place was B.U.S.Y. - a good sign. The music was LOUD. REALLY LOUD. Not a good sign. We waited about 10 minutes for a table to clear and we sat down. (There is no waiting list, it's seat yourself so basically you stare at people like vultures until they leave their seats and you can take over.) Rules here are strict. Once you order TO GO you can't then decide you want to eat it there We saw them kick people off tables because they had ordered TO GO and then tried to sit. Waitresses work hard - we ordered snack size mac and cheese bites, snack size cheese sticks, Chicken (1 leg / 1 thigh) and catfish (1 filet) combo and chicken (wings) and waffles. Food came out piping HOT! Wait was not super long for the amount of people that were in there. The food was good. Really good. Deliciously good. SNACK size portions were HUGE and enough for a few people. Chicken was seasoned perfectly, nice and crispy. reminded me of home cooking. CATFISH - best I've had in Atlanta. Breading was nice and crispy and had a "kick" to it. Didn't even need hot sauce. The cons - the music is just too damn loud. It could be turned down about 4 notches and be "acceptable" It was hard to hear anything but the music. Waiters and staff constantly asking "huh" because they couldn't here you over the music. Drinks were expensive. I'm sorry - I'm not paying $13.50 for Ciroc and Lemonade. They do have $5 happy hour all day (tequila sunrise, blue mf, long island, rum and coke, and a few other drinks on that.) I had a tequila sunrise. it was really strong and delicious. Overall - compared to Chicago Harold's. This place was on point. I will be back for sure - and soon. But will order TO GO and leave because can't deal w/the loud music.

A QUICK BITE

By Wooki_TrophyFamily |

I had read the reviews an the food LOOKED delicious, so I decided the next time I was in Atlanta I would give it a try. Had to pay to park in a lot across the street. There was no wait upon arrival which was good. However, there were NO sodas available, while traveling with tweens...anyway..the tables could stand to be replaced, our table was moving from side to side..being that all the tables were taken I actually had to use my feet to hold the table steady the entire time. OTHER, than that I was ok with the music and the food was delicious. I would eat here again, But it would probably be a take out order unless the dining area is upgraded!!

great time to pass the time

By Miguel L |

great music and sounds Chicken and drinks are fantastic reasonable prices. watched the NFL games while I was there. will def return again

Thank you

By Rome |

All I can say is thank you. This was quite possibly the best chicken and waffles I’ve had to date. The chicken was both juicy and crispy, and the WAFFLE.... the waffle was reminiscent of a funnel cake from the fair. The vibe here is very dope, good lighting, good music (with a live DJ depending on when you come), and the staff are both friendly and funny. Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely be back for a visit.

It was GREAT GREAT! Staff was awesome! We ate there twice why we were in Atlanta. Even the kids enjoy the food.

Saturday afternoon date

By Coolpoet |

Was recently in ATL for my anniversary. Needed somewhere to grab a grub and watch NBA playoffs in a casual setting. Ordered the chicken and waffles. This was some of the best chicken and waffles I can remember, absolutely delicious. I would advise that the neighborhood is a little rough. After eating, I would definitely keep it moving. Drinks were average but the food was very tasty.

Customer service?

By Joshua h |

Spilled hot sauce all over my new shoes. Didn't ask what I'd like to drink for at least 20 min once I was seated. Waitress did offer us alcohol on her for forgetting to ask us😑. I appreciated that though. Food wasn't bad at all 3/5

mild sauce...

By Mary H |

Great... but my Chicago companion was disappointed with Italian Beef. Wing, fries, and come slaw is worth another trip.

Delicious Chicken

By DDANIEL11 |

This chicken is soooo tasty. No wonder Harold's has been around since 1950. My wife and I always leave very satisfied.

Lively Crowd & Good Food

By JosephsBoy |

I enjoyed the overall dining experience. Saturday night was my second visit to this location but this time I was able to dine in. The patio was the only spot that had vacancy for a party of two, which was cool. I had the grilled chicken salad in addition too the wings & gizzards dinner. The salad was great I was actually surprised at the size and amount of chicken. The wings and gizzards dinner was o.k. NOT BAD AT ALL BUT NOT GREAT. I have had better seasoned gizzards and chicken, the hot sauce helped it out though. The patio is nice but packed as if there are too many tables for that space and when there is a a large crowd you are literally on top of one another.

Great food and great atmosphere!

By LSCoupe |

Being from Chicago, I was eager to check out Harolds Chicken and Ice Bar and I was NOT disappointed. The chicken was authentic and the atmosphere made me feel like I was truly at home in Chicago. It's warm, it's welcoming and it's friendly!

Edgewood is Horrible a disgrace to the Harold's brand...says a native Chicagoan

By Tondochan |

Disappointed! Edgewood location I ordered a Bob Marley at the suggestion of my friend who loved the one she had at the Marietta location the previous night. The taste was awful the manager CC or CJ was rude about it. She stated you cant compare drinks made at one establishment to another I'd agree if it was a different name but the same Harold's brand should have some consistency the chicken taste the same so why not the drinks. The drink cost $15 a piece plus a liquor tax for drinks that we could not drink. A little over $30 wasted and absolutely no compensation. One drink was returned immediately the other as you see was left on the table. It was claimed to be top shelf but had a nasty kick like a homemade moonshine. The second disappointment was ordering a grilled chicken caesar salad to go. Told it would be ready in 10 minutes after waiting 30 already. Then after 45 minutes it was being bagged. 10 minutes later it's still not ready so I requested a refund. The refund was processed on my card with no problem I've not seen it hit my account yet though. A refund but what about the hour wait for a salad and the false lies of it being ready - truly unacceptable. Customer service buy management made the bad experience worse which is a reflection of the establishment overall it was ridiculous we shared a table in the back with another party. One of the guys saw the drink and asked what was wrong as he is a frequent patron - he called CC/CJ whatever her name is to the table and made a reference to the drink she was extremely rude as if I or my friend was not in their presence and shared with him what she'd told my friend about the drink they don't take liquor back and you cant compare a drink made at the Marietta location to Edgewood. If the manager and much of the staff was attentive to their guest as they are to smoking on the hookah perhaps their would be a bit of customer satisfaction. I gave the rating of a 1 star the experience deserves a negative rating. My review will not stop here this poor service is worthy of a BBB complaint to reflect the poor service. In my reality since drinks are not taken back they can serve you up anything and expect the patrons to just accept it. To top it off the Bob Marley at their sister location in Marietta had a great taste for $11, Edgewood charged $15 for what was to be the same drink yet an extreme difference in appearance and taste. I reiterate after a slight taste the drinks were unbearable to drink. A horrible libation that is not pleasant to the palate. Edgewood needs to do better - one Atlanta experience added to my never again list.

Southern Fried Chicken Just Like Nana Makes Em!

By aAa |

Visited for the first time Harolds Chicken and Ice Bar with friends to watch Superbowl LII. Dining atmosphere is casual and family friendly. Bar is fully stocked and there was a DJ live in the restaurant giving clientele some food old Motown and HipHop vibes. Harolds also has a lounge titled as "VIP" and seating here costs u a little bit more but the ambiance is also quite chilled/relaxed. Sonsettling in I ordered fried chicken wings and fried Perch with fries. Food took a little while to come up but this understandably so on Superbowl Sunday. Well it was really worth d wait. Portion was abundant and filling and the coleslaw was just yum! Def place to be if you're looking for some good old southern Fried chicken and fish!

Chicken just as good as if made in Chicago.

Had a quick lunch here. The food was hot and wonderful. We ate at the bar and were served promptly. Will totally go back.

Harold's Chicken and Ice Bar

By Jemilla T |

We went to this location for food. Food was received quickly as we did carryout. This a bar/hookah lounge scene, music was a bit loud but since we weren’t there long it wasn’t too bad. The pricing of the food is reasonable however I was charged gratuity which I didn’t realize until after we left, and I know there was a sign which said gratuity added on orders for 6 people or more. That was disappointing to have been charged when only my mom and I were ordering.

Very Surprised!

By trvl4theluvofit |

I was apprehensive about going to eat here as it appears to be in a sketchy area of town. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I never felt uneasy and the restaurant is a cozy place to sit a spell. I had the chicken dinner and loved the flavor and crispy texture of the meat. The service is great and the meal came out pretty quick. They have live entertainment on the weekend. The food and drinks were great. Only thing I would caution is not get the Cirroc Lemonade drink it is almost $12! Tastes great but a little high priced. They did have drink specials when I was there that were tasty.

I enjoyed chicken gizzards and chicken wings with okra. Truly enjoyed dinner here with great music and enjoyed watching the college game on big screen

Great food, good service

By Pam G |

Everything we ordered was delicious. The fried chicken was crispy, the hot wings were definitely hot and the server was very polite. The only thing I didn’t love we the volume of the misix.

Great Food

By Culture773088 |

I got my food to go and the place had music, hookah and drinks. Waffles and Chicken was good and the bucket of chicken was great. There was a lot of smoke so if you don't smoke get your food to go because it's worth it.

Valentine's Day weekend

By DoctorDominique M |

I loved it!!!!. The chicken and fish were fresh and delicious. The waitress was okay, but every organized and got all of our orders right, there were about 10 of us. Darryl, the restaurant manager came to talk to us, he was so nice. It's nice, they have TVs and a bar, it's nothing like Chicago Harolds lol

Just Like CHI

Chicago Born & Raised mostly eating Harolds Chicken. This Place took me home. Even the neighborhood its in. If you can go HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Well seasoned fried chicken!

By Rashaan C |

I love their fried chicken with their sauce on the side or the fried catfish. Very welled seasoned and fried to perfection! The coleslaw is pretty good wish they gave you a little more as a side.

Good food.....ok atmosphere

By Yvonne S |

I enjoyed the chicken and loved the broccoli and cheese bites. I think the restaurant could be a bit cleaner. I usually go to Harold's at night. This was my first visit during the day and I was surprised how dirty it was. My first waitress was kinda stale but the second waitress was very nice.

Great spot!

I ordered mozzarella cheese triangles, a shot of uncle nearest and Desiree recommended to me a shot of Woodford reserve and everything was great. Great service, great atmosphere, great food.

Great chicken!

By Siena45 |

We were visiting the Martin Luther King museum and decided to take to walk a couple of blocks to Harold's. We found it to be very clean with extremely friendly waitstaff. Our waitress got along quite well with our six-year-old. We are from Boston and don't typically get southern food. Everything we had was delicious from the chicken to the fish to the shrimp as well as fries. We truly felt like we had a typical southern experience.

Great food but slow service

By Rodney L |

Great Chicago chicken! No bread with the food😳. Busy Saturday crowd but all in all good times! Seat yourself. Outside area was very quaint.

A great meal

After visiting the King site this was a great finish to a great day. The food was delicious and the service was great! "I'll be back"!!

Nice...crowded..

By Stephanie M |

Me and a friend stopped in for her to try the wings and it was very crowded but very nice music playing. The chicken and waffles were so good. Of course the wings are to die for anyway. It’s a people watching atmosphere but you can really enjoy the music. I didn’t like the smoke though. They have hookah smoking and that stuff smells disgusting if you’re not a smoker. I would definitely recommend trying the wings and having a drink and listen to the music for a minute but again avoid the hookah smokers if ur not a smoker. The other food looked really good as it was coming out but again I only had the wings and waffles. Just be patient because it’s really busy but service is pretty fast once you place your order.

Menu looks pricey, don’t be fooled!! It’s worth it!!!

By Victor T |

I’m from Boston, Massachusetts and I randomly stopped by. Menu looks pricey, but we’ll worth the money!! I got a 24 piece bucket and onion rings. My party was satisfied and the chicken was absolutely amazing! 10/10 would recommend to anyone new in the area!!!! Much love!!! Street seemed sketchy I grew up in the projects anyways, but the security and police keep the area safe! Btw I’m Asian, and the staff was very welcoming along with the patrons. They did NOT make me feel out of place! P.s I’m an ex chef that was sent to different countries to learn to cook and I’m very picky.

Disappointed does not represent the Chicago well in the Atl!!

By Delores S |

The place is very small and has a seat self policy. Once we found a table we had to wait 20 minutes for someone to clean the table. After we sat a server brought us menus and disappeared. After another 20 minutes we had to find someone to come take our order. After 5 more minutes a gentleman came to take our order and he was pleasant and informed us our server got caught up helping in the kitchen. So our food took another 30 minutes even appetizers and drinks. The service is subpar to say the least and I was very disappointed because I was excited about a little taste of home Chicago! Needs definite improvement!!!!

Chicken and Waffles

By bernardt490 |

This was my first time visiting any of the GA locations. I've been to the original in The Chi and all though the service was better in IL the Food was just as good. The drinks were also good and the location was nice. I ate at the location near Kennesaw.

Good food!!

By Moni0825 |

I’m from Chicago, it doesn’t taste like Chicago!! But it did the trick, I can’t complain plus they have good drinks lol

Had lunch here

By jamesgaryjr |

We arrived around 2:30 on a Sunday and yes the place is open! I ordered the catfish and chicken. Not realizing how large the portions of fish were I added a second! I was very impressed with the flavor of both the chicken and catfish! The coleslaw was a bit liquid but tastes ok! The place wasn't full but as time passed it became packed and loud! Nothing like the South! Our food came out quickly and I'm very satisfied! Haley was our waitress and was attentive to our table! If you decide to try Harold's get their early; and enjoy!!!

Saturday night drinks

By Nikki B |

This place has the best drinks in town. The Woo is my favorite. Being from Chicago, of course I cannot get enough of the chicken. I get mines with mild sauce on it. I love when they ask what kind of sauce on the side, no we want ours on it from Chicago. The hookahs are great as well. And DJ Flu always has us turnt up on Saturday nights. This was our first stop last night before we club hopped on Edgewood.

Good food but..

By Idefinenichelle |

I went to Harold's on a Friday night. Of course it was packed, but I had no clue it would be to the point where I almost couldn't walk around. Because of this, we ordered our food to go. I got the Catfish, Wings and Fries, which was supposed to be $15 something. By the time I paid for it, it was almost $20! I looked at the bill and saw that tip was included???? Why should be tip be included when it's to go? What a rip off! Besides that though, the chicken was really good, but the fries were soggy and I literally only had about 10 of them with my platter. They definitely got over on me, but at least I know now.

It's an okay spot

By Djones159 |

I actually like the spot. It's a nice little crowed and noisy place. The food was good, however, we were fooled with the gratuity that was added to the bill. The menu stated that gratuity would be added with 5 or more. We had 4. It didn't matter because the menu were old, so we were told. The service was the worst part. We had to ask 5 or 6 times for water. They didn't have any coke or pepsi products. What restaurant runs out of soda. The server spilled water on my friend. The table next to us were so mad, we started telling jokes to ease the tension. The drinks were nothing like was described on the menu. We ordered some peach drink that was supposed to have peaches, but didn't. It didn't even taste like a peach drink. I'm not sure if I would ever go back.

Mild Sauce!

By Det2Atl |

I finally got a chance to try Harold's and I must say that the chicken is wonderful.Service was slow, but the place was jammed packed.I definitely will return

Good but not like Chicago.

By Mrsj0320 |

Service is slow from Thursday thru Sunday because it's the hangout spot, but if you come during lunch service is much better. I visit often, but always early. Check any to go order's because it mostly be wrong.

Horrible customer service

By mrsgriffin11 |

Came here this evening 2/12/21 with my family a group of 5 for dinner. Order for food was placed at 5:42 p.m. after 39 minutes I had to go to the bar and asked for the beer that was ordered 40 minutes ago. Finally got the beer. Watched two tables that came 35 and 45 minutes after us received their food before us. After an 1 hour and 30 minutes. I had to walk up front again to see why we hadn't received our food. I watch numerous of tables received food in a timely manner. I express my frustration and the bad customer service. Our server never came to check on our table after he had taken our initial order. Finally spoke to a manager after being there for 2 hours with no food. Was offered 25 % off food. We took our food to go. Upon paying the bill I noticed that they had added gratuity. For one gratuity is for parties of 6 and more. Second we didn't receive service and got food two hours and 20 minutes later. The original server snatched the receipt out my hand. I told him to remove the gratuity because we didn't get service at the table and we were taking our food to go. He fix the receipt and tossed it back to me causing the receipt to fall to the floor. I zeroed out the tip and paid only for the food. I noticed the server putting my signed receipt in his pocket (which raised an alarm for me). Management please advised your worker if he alters my receipt after I've signed it. I will file fraud charges. This is worst experience I've received from this establishment in the 5 years coming to this place.

I'll definitely go back!

By Nisey |

I went to this place because I had seen it on TV. I would definitely recommend this place. The wait for food took FOREVER, but the waitress was absolutely wonderful. The food was great & the drink were the bomb.

Awesome catfish and wings

By Navigator616578 |

I visited Atlanta this week and found Harold's. One of the only restaurants open at 10:30pm. It had great reviews so I dropped by. The atmosphere is great, relaxing, and friendly. I ordered the catfish and wings, with onion rings per the front counters recommendation (thank you for leading me this way). The food was absolutely awesome. I highly recommend Harold's to anyone who is looking for a great restaurant.

My search for good local fried chicken livers is over!

By Stu454 |

I had a serious craving and began searching online for a good spot to find fried chicken livers without driving two hours back to my hometown. Harold's showed up. I drove down there and gave it a try. Very courteous service and I was beyond pleased with the livers. It's a bar in a neighborhood that is in the throes of gentrification. I'll be back.

This is the most unprofessional service I’ve ever experienced.

By Eboni B |

My friends and I decided to dine here for brunch. My friend found a hair wrapped and fried within her chicken batter. She let the waiter know and the manager “CJ” came out to argue with my friend that no one is their kitchen could have put the hair on the food when we clearly saw it in the food and a female with the same color hair that was discovered originally brought us the food. She gave us no solution and continued to argue with my friend who ended up having to pay for the food even though she stopped eating after the hair was discovered . First and Last time here...

Nice Atmosphere!

By TravelNurse123 |

This place was small yet unique. The Chicken was good, the shrimp was AWESOME! 5.00 Happy Hour drinks all day, everyday and they were suprisingly stiff for 5.00. The Music was 100% Hip Hop. The waitress was nice. TV's throughout ... The Bartender "Jay" was the best. I will definitely be back to this establishment.

Late night hunger

By Marlee |

Visiting and we we’re hungry it was 1 of a few places open so.. services was slow and portions kinda small. But ok

Crowded but worth it

Pretty good chicken wings. Had to do a to go order because the place was packed. I had the macaroni and cheese bites too! no complaints.

This place is awesome

By Amy W |

Loved this place. Always busy and the staff is always great, super friendly. Best chicken wings I've ever had and the sweet potato tots are delicious. They have Hennessy margaritas that are to DIE for. Check it out on the weekend when they have karaoke!!

Great food and great service~~

By Aundron |

Went down to ATL for a girl's weekend, visited Harold's Chicken and Ice Bar on 5/10/14. It's a nice little place, kind of a mixture or restaurant/bar/club. It was a blast!! It was crowded and there was 5 of us, so the hostess set up a table for us in the back. Our waitress was EXCELLENT!! Her service was comparable to an upscale restaurant!! I wish I could remember her name (maybe Karis, or something like that). The food was really good, make sure you get the cole slaw, the wings(a little salty, but good) or the gizzards! The drinks were awesome as well, make sure you get the Chi Town Relaxer!! We tried different drinks, but that one was my favorite!! Oh, and the DJ was great, we had a great time!! Looking forward to coming back here again!

Beware

By Bridgette W |

Beware they charge 18% gratuity on all orders after 10 p.m. even orders placed to- go. I guess the cashier deserves a hell of a tip for doing her job. Sad part about this is the charge isn't properly disclosed to their customers placing orders to- go. Most people who dine-in are probably so drunk they don't even notice the charge and probably leave an additional tip. We onky noticed because we order one thing making it impossible for $15 to be tax only. When we asked about the additonal charges the cashier said it was due to taxes. We asked for a itemized receipt but instead of handing us a receipt she went to get the manager. The manager gave us the itemized receipt and explained after 10 p.m the registers are automatically set to include 18% gratuity on all orders. He explained it was to ensure the waiters were paid, but this was confusing because the waiters didn't serve us. Even when we sat down to eat, despite other customers who had places their orders as dine- in orders were still eating and being waited on, we were told we couldn't sit down to eat our food because it was placed as a to-go order. The only reason we placed it to go was because they said we had too because they were closing. This was also disturbing because typically when you get in a restaurant and they are still serving you typically have the option to dine-in. We ended up driving for an hour to our hotel to eat our food. The food was cold by the time we got there and I was disturbed by the extra expense of 18% gratuity charge and service was not provided. I don't mind paying for service, but this is FOOLISHNESS!

Overrated

By deidra m |

It's just bland fried chicken cooked in old grease on light bread with french fries. Reasonably priced, it has potential, because of the bar. I don't know how long it'll last here. I can see it closing in a few years. Lot's of homeless people hanging out front and walking in.

Food and Drinks

By Tre S |

The price was affordable, very lively place. The chicken and waffles were the best I’ve ever tasted. The waitresses were polite and they also recommended their best menu items(drinks, hookah and food) to us. We will definitely be going back.
