Excellent Food, Superb Service

By Alistair R |

Came here as part of a company retreat recently. As well as eating in the main restaurant, we went to the basement speakeasy to pre-game and do some ten pin bowling on their old school bowling lanes - seriously, still using strings to reset the pins, it was awesome! The night we were there their draft beer system was on the fritz, and their bottled selection is less than inspiring, so there was no booze for this traveller (I am not a wine drinker, it just does nothing for me, and there was no cider, mead, or interesting spirits). Our group chose to have the 7 course sampler and each course was superb, and the staff took into account the various food foibles of our group, nut allegies and vegetarian. The highlight for me was the salmon, cooked absolutely perfectly. Our server was superb, I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out here. A very nice place all round.

Delicious!

By Edith D |

We came here for our Christmas Party, it was delicious! We did the Chef sampling menu and it did not disappoint...My favorites were the H & P Salad, Butternut Squash Toast and Brussel Sprouts...Ruby Slippers Cocktail was also very Waiter was very attentive and always checking on us. The only complaint, it was very noisy. Tip: If you Park at 15th and Sansom St parking garage, Harp and Crown had discount voucher...Less than a half block walk. I would definitely go back!

So Good

By Robert2Hz |

I went here on fathers day. They were booked but the hosts were super proactive and got us in after a no show! Thanks. The food and ascetic were both awesome.

Awesome find!

By Elizabeth N |

Had an awesome meal here last Sunday with friends. We were very impressed by the ambiance and our waiter. Highly recommend the tasting menu for 45/person! The portions were perfectly sized for all of us to leave comfortably full

Great food, unique decor

By Erica S |

Went here the other weekend with our friends who were visiting from NYC. We were all impressed with the food, drinks and great atmosphere. It was nice to sit down and be able to share a bunch of small plates with everyone! Make sure you get dessert, best part!

Great evening

By ShiplakeRose |

What a great place. Wonderful decor, knowledgable and fun staff. Food was very good and there was lots of it. We had pre-ordered food to share and probably had twice as much as we could eat.

Fun experience

By Matthew L |

It’s a fun time like a speak easy with a bowling alley in the basement.. overall good experience with specialty drinks.. overall good time

Enjoyable brunch

By James L |

We recently tried the Hard and Crown brunch and came away impressed. Be prepared, it's popular and you'll likely wait for the omelet station, but everything was high- quality. My biggest challenge was deciding what wouldnt make the cut for my plate!

Sunday Brunch

By Becky M |

Was excellent food. Huge number of food items. Of course we had to try it all. There was an omelet station as well as a meat carving station in additions to the salads, seafood, and pastries. Lovely old building. We really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Good Food and Ambience

By Ok Connie L |

Went for restaurant week. Six courses plus dessert. Everything was delicious. Service was good. Only downside was the table was small and they brought three courses at a time. Parking garage next door to the restaurant.

disappointing

By Dennis H |

ambience was great , food was lacklustre at best and service was disappointing. if you are a good you will be deepl unimpressed. if you like crowds and cocktails then the vibe is OK.

Birthday and Anniversary Dinner

By Jennifer S |

I cannot say enough about Harp & Crown. Everything from beginning to end was amazing. The drinks are delicious (I got Ruby Slippers and it's INCREDIBLE!) The entrees are healthy portions and SO GOOD. Our table got the scallops, halibut, hanger steak, and lamb and one dish was better than the next. We had champagne delivered to the table for our special occasion and the food was up and out quickly. We had a table that was very spacious with plenty of elbow room and space for 7 adults. We will DEFINITELY be back!!

Nice but awkward seating - great people watching

By elizabethmT769ZJ |

Harp & Crown came recommended by a friend and writer for Eater. The space is very cool. Long, and narrow with dim lighting and interesting decor throughout. Our seats were a little awkward at a banquet with stationary table (kind of like an old-timey school desk). Table was small, and seating felt like it was either too long or too short for comfort; not to mention legs were dangling into a busy walkway. Would have much preferred a great table - but the location of the banquet was great for people watching at the bar on a busy Friday night. Menu is interesting with small plates made to share. Great for larger groups. We tried the lamb meatballs, octopus, hamachi, gnocchi, beef tartare and scallops. Small apple pie in cast iron pie pan for dessert. The food was good, but I am probably not the best judge since I was a little under the weather. My dining companion completely enjoyed. Service was OK. Not the best we've ever had, but definitely not lacking. Just like it when it's easier to completely engage with a server, and because of seating/noise level/crowd, that didn't seem possible. I'd go back, but there are lots of other places I'll try first before I do.

Bryan gave great service!

By Anehru H |

I went for a nice evening with my Date and Bryan gave GREAT service. From his recommendations and kitchen requests on the sides we wanted to swap. I really appreciated his service. I will request for him every time I come to Harp and Crown.

A Total Miss During Restaurant Week

By Lee Ann V |

My husband and I were excited to visit for the first time during Restaurant Week, and we’re completely let down. We ordered the 7 course restaurant week menu, and were told by our waiter that the kitchen would time out our courses so we weren’t rushed. Our salad and cold appetizer arrived together which was perfect. Then, when we were halfway finished with our salad, our pizza, pasta and main courses arrived. We legitimately were given 5 courses at once. The food runners bringing the food didn’t stop to think that it may be too much at once. When our waiter came back over, he acknowledged that they shouldn’t have all come out but the only thing he could do was to stop the vegetable. He let us know that since it was restaurant week and they were busy, the kitchen was rushing food. As soon as he left, the vegetable arrived. So untimely, we wound up eating our main courses cold, because they’d been sitting on our communal table for 20 minutes while we rushed through everything else. Ultimately, our hot appetizer course never arrived, so we took that to go. We had finished our drinks within the first couple of courses but weren’t offered anything additional until dessert. Our waiter did send out an extra dessert to apologize, but we were both too frustrated by that point. The space is really impressive, the food is average and the service and experience was poor. If you’re not from Philadelphia and want a tapas type meal, definitely try Amada or Tinto. They have amazing food and excellent service, we should’ve just stuck with them!

Very hip!!

By buddyPhila |

Took my sons for Sunday brunch. Service was spot on. Presentation was excellent. Brunch was served buffet on the bar. Food selection covered all the bases. All the food was fresh. My family thought some of the hot items were only room temp.,guess it's hard to keep everything hot. I thought it was lovely, my husband thought 28.00 was a little high. They have a 4 cocktail option for 15.00. It was more a special occasion for us than just a Sunday brunch!!

Great for outdoor dining and good vegetable options

By Papaya25 |

Great vegetable dish options, beet salad, cauliflower steak and brussel sprouts were all delicious. Best part was being able to eat outside in the hot summer evening with some cool air blowing on us. Their large, covered outdoor seating area has cool air blowing above the tables (I assume they can alternatively also use the same system for heat in cold weather). Only drawback was the seating for outdoor tables were padded benches so it didn't have backs.

One of the better choices in Philly

By DubSee |

In a city not known for its great restaurants sans cheesesteaks, Harp and Crown was a pleasant surprise. We made a reservation, however when we arrived the table wasn’t ready - to their credit they did everything they could to seat us as soon as they could and provided us great service the rest of the night. It was a Sunday night and the place was packed so that was also a good sign. The food was very good - not excellent - but overall we had a very nice evening. I would definitely go back if I visit Philly again.

So Good!

By Sofia425 |

Everything was excellent! The server was friendly and attentive. The food was all delicious. We chose a few plates and shared, which was a great decision because I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on tasting these dishes. The cocktail menu is fun and tasty. A great experience all around!

A Must for Dinner & Drinks!

By arissalovesart |

I saw beautiful photos of this restaurant on Instagram so my husband and I decided to give it a try. I'm so happy we did because we had a wonderful experience! We loved... 1. The decor and layout upstairs! High ceilings, textured exposed walls, vintage photos, beautiful round bar-- overall beautiful atmosphere! 2. The $45 a person option which allowed us to choose one of each of the categories on the menu (salad, hot appetizer, cold appetizer, pizza, pasta, meat, vegetables, & dessert). 3. The portion size is not too big and not too small- it's just the right amount to savor each dish while having a lot of variety. 4. Our servers (both upstairs for dinner and downstairs for drinks) were extremely friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and overall pleasant. 5. The downstairs lounge, bar and bowling (yes, bowling!) area is straight up cool. Perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic date. 6. The cocktail menu! My recommendation is Dying Declaration. We were told Saturday nights get super crowded. We were there on a Sunday night and were able to get a table right away without waiting, I'd still make a reservation. Loved it!

Beautiful decor, good service

By Archie |

We made reservations after Ballet at Academy of music. We walked right past it as there is a small sign with restaurant name. There is foyer with plants with casual seating and as you go further there is a bar with further seating on couch and tables. We always get seated near the restrooms no matter which restaurant we go to. We asked specifically to move us away from the restrooms. She made some excuses about server. Our waiter was efficient and pleasant. We started with cocktails and appetizer. We enjoyed mushroom on toast, eggplants and brussels sprouts. It's a nice place to visit.

Great people, great atmosphere, trendy vibe, and great food and drinks

By RouxTheDay |

I don't think our group knew what they were getting into when we chose Harp and Crown for dinner (not big sharers), but it worked out really well. The servers worked well as a team, and our main server had every bit of information at his fingertips and knew the food and wine menus intimately. For instance, their house riesling is a little drier than average, so he suggested another selection that's more like a mainstream riesling. I shouldn't have been surprised, given the cuisine, but it's one of the few places I've seen a tempranillo from rioja on the wine list. The small plates for sharing took a little getting used to in our party of seven, since we're all used to the "everything comes out at once and dig in" style of American restaurants. The beet salad and the cod were fantastic. The steak got rave reviews. The pizzas were quickly consumed, and so on. I don't think anyone was disappointed in their choices or their shares. Don't let the beards and ink fool you. These folks know how to make a restaurant and bar work and how to make people feel comfortable. The atmosphere and architecture work well together. The wall of mirrors at one end really opens up the space, and it seems like a great place to relax with friends.

Great food, great atmosphere

By Ryan |

This place is awesome! The atmosphere is just great and you won't find another place like it. The food was very good as well! The staff is very friendly, we each got a complimentary glass of champagne since we were celebrating our anniversary which I thought was very nice. Our waiter Cory was very helpful and had great recommendations. I highly recommend going here!

Fantabulous brunch

By BostonMeow |

In town briefly for an errand and decided to make a pleasant trip of it. Brunch at this restaurant was a delightful treat. The ambiance is perfect. I would recommend reservations. $28 for brunch and $6 fun brunch alcoholic drinks. Service was great. The fried chicken with sausage gravy was divine. Amazing pastries, beef carving station, omelette station and shrimp/salmon with a fabulous chicken salad were highlights. Make your own donuts went over well too. Love love love !

Sooo many disappointing things about this place

By imafarmgirl |

A group of 8 of us went to this restaurant for my daughter's law school graduation. It was honestly a disappointment, start-to-finish. The only positive I can give this place is the atmosphere...it is quite unique. Unfortunately, if you are seated behind the bar area as we were, the decor and atmosphere in that area of the restaurant is very bland and boring compared to the rest of the place. They seated 8 of us in a booth. Our group consisted of three men that were all over 6 ft. tall, and over 200 lbs. We were crammed in like sardines. No one had any elbow room. Even though our waiter noticed our discomfort, we were not offered the option to be re-seated, nor were we offered an extra chair. We had to ask for the chair so one from our group could sit at the end of the booth. It was awkward, because he was essentially sitting in the aisle, but we had no other choice The food is served as "small plates". Typically, you should be able to keep ordering more plates throughout the evening until everyone is full. Our waiter told us we had to order everything up-front, all at once. How are we supposed to know how many "small plates" it is going to take to feed 8 people, including 3 big guys??? Each plate was pricey, averaging $20/plate. The recommendation is 3 plates per person. The portions were truly small, and not even remotely worth $20/plate (even a teeny little miniature salad was $15!!!) The area in which we were seated was VERY dimly lit. Don't get me wrong, I like "mood lighting", but if you looked out across the restaurant, you saw numerous people using their cell phone lights just to be able to see the menu! Very sad, very disappointing experience for what was to be a very important celebratory dinner for our family. You never get those moments back... :(.

Great food but terrible service

By Kim1117 |

We visited for a graduation celebration and were very disappointed with the service. Things started out well but slowly disintegrated as the evening progressed. We ordered a variety of small plates and were very happy with the food.

excellent food, great service

By Laura M |

My only suggestion is they have a bigger sign on the street. It was confusing as the address was there, but the sign above the door had a different name. Their sign was tiny, hidden behind bushes. But other than that - our server was excellent going to great lengths along with the kitchen to accommodate my husband's food allergies. Every dish was excellent (it's a small plates kind of place) and when they heard we had a concert to get to they made sure that we got out in a time fashion. Go - it's great

Get the chefs tasting

By MMillerM |

Went there for kid-free date night. Very eclectic decor, open, not cramped. The chefs tasting for $45 pp was a deal for what you get (one item per section of the menu). It was a lot of food; the lamb meatballs, scallops, and Whoopie pie were particularly memorable. The only dish I was disappointed with was the gnocchi dish. It was a bit over-cooked. There’s a bowling alley attached to the restaurant and a nice bar. In summation it’s a good place for a complete night out with dinner, drinks, and entertainment.

Awesome Happy Hour

By Kitzy22 |

My husband and I were visiting Philly the weekend before Christmas and looking for a restaurant to have dinner. We had stopped in some other restaurants that had too long of a wait and then remembered Harp & Crown had been recommended by our hotel. It was a little hard to find since the sign for the restaurant is so small. Once inside, we noticed the restaurant was pretty packed, but the host told us the basement bar had just opened for the night. We were so pleasantly surprised. After going through several hallways, we finally found the bar with plenty of open seats. We also arrived in time for happy hour - which was awesome. Every app we ordered was delicious and the cocktails were very well crafted. This ended up being our favorite meal of the weekend and also the least expensive thanks to the happy hour deals. We definitely recommend this restaurant!

Best gnocchi of my life

By Dana S |

Loved this place! The decor is awesome - it's got an industrial gothic vibe, and the perfect ambient lighting. We had the tasting menu which was $45/person. I honestly loved every single bite. The burrata was fantastic, the steak and halibut excellent. My absolute favorite was the gnocchi- it melted in my mouth - it was divine! All 4 of us agreed it was the best gnocchi we ever ate in our lives. This place was wonderful - I'll defiantly be back!!!

New favorite in Philadelphia

By Carolina G |

We ordered the Tomato porcini salad, Mushroom avocado toast, Lamb meatballs, Gnocchi, Sopressetta honey and provolone pizza, Steak and sweet potatoes. All of the food was AMAZING. The vibe is awesome. Antique-y decor with extremely high vault ceilings. Excellent drink menu - highly recommend the Ruby Slippers. The best part about the whole experience was our waiter who helped us decide on every options and was extremely attentive throughout the entire meal. 10/10 I discovered a new favorite in Philadelphia thanks to Seated.

Sunday Brunch gem

By tj |

Ambiance is great during warmer months, not sure how comfortable the front dining area is during the colder months. Smaller 2 person tables in the bar area look awkward to dine but seem to be better for conversation. Brunch is set up around the bar area and is very well presented. Friendly staff at the omelet station and the cutting station. Donut Bar is a unique offering and adds a touch of fun. Wait staff is welcoming and consistent. Drink specials were reasonable along with overall brunch price. Will return as this brunch offers a nice relaxed start to a Sunday.

Delicious dinner and cocktails

By Kellie H |

My husband and I tried the tasting menu option and I’m so glad we did - everything we had was fantastic, especially the tuna tartar and mushroom pizza. Our boys were very pleased with their meals too, it was a great meal and the restaurant has really cool decor as well. We would gladly go back!

Impressive space

By Paul S |

Loved the creative vision in refitting this space. Very active, especially the bar area. The menu was likewise creative. Our group of four sampled around the menu and were very pleased by all of our choices. Craft cocktails looked interesting but, this being our second stop of the evening, we settled on a bottle of wine from the short but varied list.

Great Happy Hour!

By Mommy5168 |

Awesome little lower level Speakeasy! Get there early because they fill up quickly! Drinks were reasonable and service was decent.

Nice flavors small portions

By travelingcoinman |

The food flavor combinations were good and well put together but the restaurant lacked a solid theme. The only true theme was small plates. Waitstaff was pleasant and right on. I’m not sure I’d eat here again, but the food was tasty.

Fun experience - great brunch!

By Traveler |

The space is very large and busy at brunch, so somewhat noisy- but definitely worth it for the many delicious options to choose from- everything from French toast, to roast beef, to chocolate mousse for dessert. I thought everything was very good with the exception of the quiche. It was definitely fun and certainly satisfying.

Good food, good atmosphere, good service

By Bruce C |

Really enjoyed our visit. Food was really good and a wide variety of choices, and serving sizes were good. Service was excellent, even when they were really busy, and drinks were pretty good too. Atmosphere was definitely lively, eclectic, and fun. Would definitely go back.

Weekend Getaway

By marmke49 |

Went based on a recommendation from a friend living in Philly. Very cool layout, not a traditional table and chairs set up. Very crowded on a Saturday night. Those who could not get a table would wait at the bar. But then the bar overflowed in to some of the table areas, which made it a bit cramped. Would have liked a table of two but got two seats at a community table, even with a reservation. Food was good but was looking for more of a romantic atmosphere rather than trendy.

Chefs do not know what "Tasting Menu" means

By A.L |

We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu as everything on the menu looked good, we were pretty hungry, and thought this would be a good way to try a bit of everything. We also assumed that "tasting menu" meant exactly that: smaller portions of the menu items so we could get a *taste* of each one. We were wrong. What they call a "tasting menu" is actually an 8 course FULL SIZED meal. Literally everything was in its full-sized portion. If I was eating by myself and ordered this, I have no idea how the restaurant would expect one person to consume two full appetizers, a whole pizza, whole dish of pasta, an entire steak, and basically two salads AND dessert. The two of us couldn't finish it all and took home 3 boxes of leftovers that will give us enough for our next two meals. My recommendation is not to order the "tasting menu" unless you have at least 4 people in your party, as what you are ordering is, in actuality, 8 full-sized meals. The food itself was ok. The tuna carpacchio was really good. Pizza was average. Steak was a little dry. Cheesesteak egg rolls were ok. Brussels sprouts were ok. Beets were pretty good. I probably would have enjoyed everything more if I wasn't already stuffed by the third course. Other than that, it is a nice place, beautiful on the inside, with good drinks and excellent service. The crowd was pretty obnoxious, but that's not the restaurant's fault, on a Saturday night. I would probably come again, during the week, and I'll order only ONE thing!

Small Plates in bunches

By MikeKman |

When this restaurant opened, the critics all said it was the most beautifully decorated place in town. Wee were seated in the garden area in the front of the restaurant and it was cold marble tables with mismatched chairs and shiplap? on the walls and ceilings. Unless you went to the restroom, you could not see the rest of the place. We ordered the tasting menu which gave us 7 small plates, including a pizza. We ordered a beet salad, hamachi, roasted olives, gnocchi, crispy cauliflower, scallops and a margharita pizza. The waiter said that the food would come out as it was prepared, not in any kind of order. So we said that was ok. then they brought out the beet sala, roasted olives, hamachi and the pizza all at the same time. the tables are small and we were overwhelmed with all of the small plates. The waiter assured us that we would not get any more food for a while. The heirloom beet salad was excellent, the pizz and hamachi were good and the roasted olives were nothing special. The gnocchi, and scallops were also excellent but the crispy cauliflower was fried cauliflower and really quite bland if not for the dip served with it. The desert that came with the tasting menu - key lime whoopee pie would not make any go whoopee.

Wonderful atmosphere, seating & food

By L0ve2travel0ften |

Harp & Crown opened in October 2016, but we just heard of it recently and were delighted with the atmosphere, food & service. The space was much larger than expected with multiple types of seating - large & small booths, tables, sofas, a wall of sofas with attached cocktail tables, bright & airy entranceway tables and a very long cylindrical shaped bar. The decor is interesting with industrial elements and old portraits. The food was excellent, especially the margherita pizza, and the burger with onion jam and gruyere cheese served with a delicious salad or homemade kettle chips. It would be a great place for cocktails for couples or large groups. The wine selection is interesting and diverse. It's definitely a place to check out in Philly.

Nice vibe for the 20s-30s crowd

By PeterHa1 |

Food is good, not overly large portions but definitely fresh and individually prepared. Service is definitely well run machine. Enjoy the fresh pasta

Nice Location and Indoor Garden area

By eagerfortravel |

I had read all the ratings on this restaurant and was excited to bring a large business meeting here. Overall results were mediocre at best.

Great spot in business district.

By Justtobuy |

Been there to grab a beer before dinner. The spot was really pinterest-ish. I sat a the bar and the staff was really great (and good looking haha!). I didn't got a chance to eat there but the plates from other customers seems really delicious.

Outstanding!

By Dennis E |

Attended a business dinner here with a party of 7. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the hanger steak and the chicken livers, which I swore off of when I was a kid. But these were delicious, and tasted nothing like what I had come to dislike as a child! A great meal and a great time.

Great architectural detail.

By eyerish_10 |

Went for brunch today and what a surprise. First, someone did instruct the employees on customer service, because every employee was A-0ne, thank you. We had buffet brunch with the four mimosa, Bloody Mary or Bellini. Everything on the circular bar was fresh looking and replenished often, and we enjoyed everything we tried. My friends and I sat in the front of the restaurant and couldn’t help but notice all the details and salvaged items used to make this place so nice. Very young, hip crowd here, but we three seniors thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and definitely will return. We even had a tour of the “speakeasy lounge” on the lower level and the employee who showed us it was very informative and told us about the bowling alley and the happy hour. Great customer service, thank you.

Lovely brunch venue

By savvyjwtravler |

Perfect place for a weekend brunch. Lovely service, food, and decor. Must try the espresso martini, tasty! The only down side is that if the place gets busy, expect a long wait for the buffet. However such a lovely setup, I like how it feels like you’re eating potluck at a friends house versus a formal buffet setting.

Brunch!

By fred e |

Received a gift card for the holidays and tried it on brunch! Made to order omelets, delicious breakfast sides, bloody Mary bar, drink specials, chocolate fountain, delicious shrimp and low! Cheesy grits and fried chicken bites, brisket and mac and cheese. Assorted fresh fruits and pastries. Great service, cool space. Reasonable at $28!

Awesome Happy hour

By jean m |

We like to imbibe in nice places. This one scores a 10. Delicious rum punch. Crispy bite size empanadas. Generous Burger w/o bun for gluten free buddy. Noise level acceptable even with big crowd @ bar. Dinner menu affordable. For extra treat try the lower floor bar next to 2 lane bowling for naughty speakeasy feel.

Fun/Great beer

By Ron J |

Great place for dinner or drinks with friends. Perfect for get togethers or pre/post theater. Large open dining room. Very urban decor. Friendly service. Menu offers a large variety from pub standards to new and interesting. Try it, you'll like it! Parking in the area.

So Good!

By Sofia425 |

Everything was excellent! The server was friendly and attentive. The food was all so delicious. It is always fun to share dishes at Harp & Crown because everything is excellent! The cocktail menu is fun and tasty. I keep coming back to Harp & Crown, and they are consistently outstanding! A great experience all around!

DON’T EVEN BOTHER

By Allison B |

Harp and Crown does not like making money. They turn away customers when the bar and all of the tables are wide open and the staff is rude to customers. We live right around the corner and try to get a drink every weekend, just to be told that there’s no room in the seemingly empty bar space. We will not be returning ever again.

Elegant vintage vibe and creative fresh food

By dreamgenie |

Restaurant Week usually isn't the best time to try a place, but Harp & Crown delivered with delicious, inventive food in a beautiful setting--it felt like we were on the deck of an elegant vintage yacht. We shared 7 courses plus dessert for $35 each. Our favorite dishes were the beet salad (toasted sunflower granola on the endive was really good), tuna poke, pork belly (with perfectly seared skin and tender fatty pork), and Brussels sprouts. The gnocchi was just a bid overdone, and the lamb meatballs were good but pretty standard. Our server Vince was friendly and helpful, providing attentive but not overbearing service. We checked out the bar/bowling area downstairs, which has a speak-easy feel, but preferred the seating upstairs. Vince told us that they have the 7-course tasting menu for $45 and a happy hour at the bar and front seating area every night, so we look forward to returning with friends.

A+

By Tim B |

Maybe our new favorite place in Philly...food was great and the atmosphere was awesome. I got the pork chops and Cait got the lamb meatballs with whipped ricotta.

Great all around spot!!

By 2_winos |

Man this place is GREAT!!!! I hope the owner of this spot reads reviews because this place needs to know they are doing good things!!! I am from Phoenix and was visiting Philly for a family wedding. I had to plan a dinner for a group of 11 all with very different dietary habits and restrictions including a 9 year old and an 11 year old. Picked this place because it was close to our hotel and menu looked like it had good variety of foods and quality healthy options for a somewhat reasonable price for a big group especially considering I knew my Dad was going to insist on picking up the check (most generous dude I know). From start to finish everything was amazing and our waiter KAREEM was the man!!! If you guys are negotiating contracts for waiters soon this dude deserves the SUPER MAX contract!!! Really appreciated his service and drinks/food/desserts were so damn good!! If you pick this place you will not be disappointed. Trust me.

Too many requirements for large parties (event fee!)

By atphilly |

Was hoping to have a family brunch at H&C in April. Was told there would be a 5% ‘event fee’ for our party of 20. They also want a 50% deposit and a signed contract! Another 25% is due a week before. When I said it’s not an event the manager was unhelpful and dismissive. Heard the place is lovely but won’t be going there given this unpleasant experience.

Cocktails and Food were Great

By AlwaysOnTheGo53 |

Was here with coworkers for a work dinner. Enjoyed the cocktails and dinner which were tasty. Nothing unheard of, but the typicals were a good menu.

Great happy hour after work

By Wander |

Came to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a great time. The service we received from our server was great. The happy hour menu was varied with the food items and the cocktails were well made. Great vibes downstairs where we were sat.

Came here for a girls night out and it was a winner!

By lhamilt77 |

Great food, energy, and overall vibes at Harp & Crown. We stopped in for a girls night out dinner and enjoyed a couple pizzas, a delightful shrimp dish, tasty carrots, potatoes and the braised short rib. Definitely will come back here again. PS - Don't be surprised by the unisex bathroom, very sexy ;-)

Not an oasis of calm

By CharlesvonLondon |

Having come to Philly for the first time and at short notice I did some quick research on a restaurant for my wife and son for Friday night dinner. Various articles and reviews led me to the Harp & Crown. The name “Harp” itself invokes strings playing dreamily in the background. The reviews and pictures of its own website suggests a cathedral-like quietness, space and tranquillity. Boy, did we get a shock when we walked in on time for our reservation. The bar was ram packed, with quite a few medical personal in their scrubs (thank you for your service) enjoying Friday night drinks. The place was louder and more frenetic than A & E and a soccer stadium in one. With temperatures close to 100F/38C outside we decided to stick it out especially as the food got good ratings in reviews. After a hot 10 minute wait in a congested area, we were shown to a diner-like booth close to the bar. Our server, Olivia, who must be an opera singer by training had to literally shout at the top of her lungs at us to take our order. Good thing she was proficient in sign language too. I asked my wife if she had her Remarkable2 tablet with her to write on to communicate our orders but she had left it at home. Olivia’s service was excellent. Sadly our 14 year old did not enjoy his pizza as he complained it was all too loud around him. The starters were generally good but some misses too. The pierogies and chicken dumplings were fantastic. The lamb balls were for anyone who like Lebanese, Spanish or Turkish cuisine lacking in flavour. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. There is clearly huge potential in the Harp & Crown but not everyone enjoys soccer stadium-like atmospheres to eat in. The website was quite frankly misleading. Not sure what we would go back for.

A rushed and limited Happy Hour in a beautiful space

By BroadOakPS |

Got to the restaurant a little past 4:00 pm to take advantage of Happy Hour. Lucky we did, the place gets crowded quickly w a young and boisterous crowd. Sat in the front entry area - very cozy and comfortable. Service was friendly but a bit rushed. Limited Happy Hour menu, both food and drink. The dishes were average but not great. The “pizza” is really a flatbread and just okay. Prices very fair making the entire experience worthwhile.

Great brunch!

By mdgipsy |

Came with son for an awesome Sunday brunch. If there are just 2 of you, seating may be a bit close to your neighbor! The buffet is set up around the bar and it was a great variety of food. Omlettes made to order and donuts you can top. Prime rib, bacon, sausage, potatoes and then lots of extras. My favorites were the shrimp, the muffeletto sandwiches, the yogurt parfaits and the chocolate pot de creme. There was much more, but you get the idea! Server was quite friendly. If I didn't have to drive, I would have opted for the drink package. Will visit again!

Whackadoodle service

By ThisandThatGirl |

Three of us walked in following a business event nearby. We sat at the bar and had a round of drinks while we waited for our table, and also decided at that time to order the chef’s tasting menu. All in your party have to get it and you have to decide on the same dish from each of the seven categories, from raw through mains. We did and when we were seated we placed our order. Within no time the food started appearing, literally starting with the third and fourth course and one on top of the other. Most of the dishes were the restaurant’s normal portion of that course but just meant to share. However none came with serving utensils and we constantly had to ask. The raw course which should have come first was fifth and the main was sixth with pasta being last. Everything was good but it was rushed and felt very “get her done” with the kitchen staff rushing by and just plopping down whatever came out. Again the food was good but the service and order was whacky. Because of that I don’t think I will make a return trip, but glad we tried the many delicious things on the menu.

Lovely Decor, Pretty Good Food

By JocSLP |

I love the decor of this place. Old Brick walls with vintage photos and lots of greenery. It always throws me off when there are televisions in high-end restaurants. I ordered a glass of wine which had clearly turned, but the cocktails were great. I ordered the scallops, which were well-prepared, but a little bland. My boyfriend ordered the pizza, which was ok. The chocolate cake was probably the best part of the meal. Service was decent. Overall, this place is "okay"

Exceptional quality ingredients but a bit pricey.

By Doris P |

Tried to go for sips happy hour but all tables in basement & front of restaurant are first come first serve not for those of us that actually work & can’t get there till 530. We decided to try the 55 tasting menu which is a lot of food but great way to try almost everything on the menu. Mac & cheese a must. I loved the tuna tartare. Generous amount of shrimp on the toast. Loved all the combination of flavors in each dish. Would definitely go back.

Gluten free brunch

By 🛶🏕🍷🍸🍹 |

There were a few gluten free options here, but not a lot. Obviously the eggs, charcuterie, and yogurt. Pot de cream had flour in the whipped cream and our server was nice enough to bring one out sans the topping. Note to restaurant. NYC has dozens of restaurants that cater to GF. They even have an app for it. Philadelphia has none. You could open yourself up to thousands of travelers if you have some more options and train your staff.

A must for brunch

By AlexOrange04 |

Great buffet brunch with long hours. Excellent variety, even gluten free bread! Actually a converted warehouse with really cool architecture and design. Ask to see the bar and bowling alley in the basement!

Excellent Food, Nice Space

By TurdOnTheRun |

The place looks great, very inviting room. Service was very good with an excellent level of attention from management and our server. Food was very nicely prepared small plates with great flavor. Big shout out for the branzino with ramps, this fish was grilled to perfection and could star at any top restaurant in the city. The chef is good here especially considering the volume they're doing. Only gripes and they're modest: the chairs in front atrium area are antique looking shaker style and are small and wobbly. They look nice but are not comfortable for a lingering meal. And as the weather was beautiful the front doors were open allowing every fruit fly in the city to descend onto our $32 beer -which was a sour- we had dozens of the little suckers marauding us and I pulled three out of my wife's beer. Our server closed the doors which helped greatly. I realize this was not under the control of anyone at the restaurant and they did their best to treat the problem but you don't want a swarm of fruit flys in the middle of a $165 meal for two. You just don't. All in all however a fine meal and we'll gladly return. I'm excited to see what this kitchen is able to come up with in the future.

Great Ambiance. Unique Place. Food ok.

By The Traveling Padre |

What a really unique place and atmosphere. The food was pretty decent and you felt like you were at an upscale pub. There is a speakesy downstairs with a couple of bowling lanes. Very neat. If you’re looking to take someone at unique place with decent food, this is the place.

Good brunch buffet

By ladyright |

We came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate family birthdays. There were eight of us and we had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server brought us coffee and water, and also took care of a birthday cake we had brought. The buffet had a nice selection, including a very good omelette bar, a donut bar, and fruit, yogurt parfaits, lox, pastries, breads, bacon, beef, etc. It was very good and we would recommend for brunch.

Not a Green Brunch

By Patrick |

A friend invited me out to brunch here on a Saturday for a 12:30 reservation. It took 15 minutes to seat us. The waiter, Rich, was awesome: kind, polite, attentive, funny, respectful and helpful. Great guy. The food was good. I stuck to meats, fish and fruits, but the table all exclaimed how the food was really nice. We all did note that the guy carving up the Prime Rib - which was fabulous - was very unfriendly even after we said how great the meat tasted. No idea why considering the cost of the place, the clientele and the quality. Overall, a good experience and a great time with friends.

Great location, atmosphere and food

By Boycie76 |

Came to the Harp and Crown as visiting collaborators in Philadelphia and they took us to this place. It a renovated old building, with very high ceilings, elaborate light fittings etc. The food was really good, it was kind of like "tapas" style where we all order a couple of dishes, some salads and shared. I particularly liked the scallops, the salmon and the beef rib (I think it was). Service was friendly, but not over the top. Thoroughly recommend.

Good drinks and food during happy hour

By Sivan M |

If you plan on eating there make sure to get reservations as the bar can quickly fill up. They have 3 drink options to choose from during happy hour and a few apps that are decent. The normal menu is also good, with pizzas and apps. The food priced are a little high so if you have time I suggesting eating elsewhere first as this place feels more of a bar rather than a restaurant.

Great atmosphere

By Laura W |

Came here for a first date. According to reviews this is a big happy hour bar during the week, so I thought it would be less crowded and noisy on a Sunday night. It was still full, but the noise level was talkable and it was definitely more sit down than bar trade. Wasn’t a fan of the house pinot noir, but we had a bottle the waiter recommended that was fantastic. I had the salmon and my companion had the scallops. Both were really well cooked, the food was wonderful. Finished off with the strawberry rhubarb cheesecake which was also delicious. We sat in the front room of the restaurant which had an outdoor patio feel, and was lovely. Ended up being a great spot for a date, really happy with the voice of restaurants and look forward to going again!

Th atmosphere and decor are unusual and festive without being overdone. Just a fun place. Great menu, good bar and delicious food.delicious watermelon salad and branzino are my favorites. For tired feet try the Ruby Slippers. :-)

Beautiful decor. We had a group of 9 and service was great. Food comes out as it is prepared which some did not like. Food was great. The mushroom salad, pork belly, Halibut and skirt stake were all memorable and highly recommended.

Cozy with a Dash of Magnificent

By KaayMonaaay |

I don’t know what I was expecting exactly, but oh, my, it took me by surprise. The mystery, twisty underground path to this Love City lounge was as intriguing as the vibe here. The Ruby Slippers and Queen’s Club cocktails kept us hydrated, at least that’s what I think we had, I was very busy surrendering to the surroundings. What’s not to love when your date asks a great question and leans in to hear your answer, fabulously framed in a green velvet and bowling alley backdrop. The corner table was the perfect place to tell tales and share secrets and dreams. It’s also a good place to have a lean-over-just-for-the-hell-of-it fairy tale kiss. But only if you’re into that kinda thing. Some might say it’s even the best part. Sorry, mixologists and super servers. You were also magnificent. Atmosphere-10. Libations-10. Service-10. Company-12. Kiss-25. Like the special and dazzling human who accompanied me here, and whose birthday it is, I would come back to this place.

PHENOMENAL ALL AROUND!

Amazing flavorful food, diverse menu, cool ambience/vibe, friendly knowledgeable staff. Loved the way that a vegetable side dish of roasted cauliflower really wowwed everyone at the table!

Don’t walk, run here!

By Emmasmominnj |

Wow I am so impressed with our dinner that we had here last night! I can not believe there are not more reviews of this place! First and foremost the atmosphere is so hip and rustic that you find yourself looking around a lot at this cool spot! And wow it’s huge inside-very deceiving from the outside! Even if you pop in for just a drink, it’s worth going too just to hang out. The bar is huge! So, my husband and I had been told they do an 8 course tasting menu. I highly recommend this if you have an open pallet. It was fun to let our waiter choose all our plates! It added to the coolness of the environment because you were excited to see what was next! We started with lamb meatballs (holy cow these were good!), spicy pizza (forgot what the meat was on top), and a mushroom salad. All the flavors married together so well! Up next was the flank steak with peppers, buttery clam pasta and the beer battered cauliflower (yum!). We ended with a chocolate cake with a sea salt Carmel middle. It was a lot of food and by the time the steak came, I was already full, but I powered thru! And of course a dinner would not be complete with amazing, attentive service! Our reservation was at 6 and we were done by 7. We did not feel rushed at all. It was a very, smooth, efficient dinner with a very friendly server! So, yes!!! Definitely go to this place! If you like Jose Graces restaurants (Tinto and Amada) you will love this place! Have an open mind and just try everything. You will not be disappointed!

Fun space, not the best for conversation

By Karen Y |

I really loved the great nooks and spaces, but the noise level was such that conversation with the person next to you was nearly impossible, let alone someone across the table. The food was ok and the server we nice, but overwhelmed but the whole atmosphere. I am glad I experienced this restaurant, but probably won't go back.

I am going back!

By LRT66 |

This place has it all: great cuisine, a lively bar, industrial chic decor with soaring ceilings, attentive service. We sampled everything pretty much. The pork belly: succulent, the portobello mushroom savory, the cod with truffle oil: yes! You can see I am a fan.

Great Food

By Kierast |

I came here with my fiancé last night for restaurant week. We had a 5:30 reservation, but were seated immediately when we arrived early. The restaurant week menu was 7 shared courses and dessert. Every course was very good. We tried the burrata, grilled octopus, mushroom farrow salad, spicy sopressata pizza, spaghetti and clams, scallops, and grilled broccoli. Dessert was a light, and not too sweet, chocolate mousse cake with toasted marshmallow. It's hard to pick a favorite, the octopus was tender and the scallops were cooked perfectly. However the salad and broccoli were out of this world. Not the courses I thought I'd be thinking about long after we left, but there you have it. Our first three courses were brought out really fast and on top of each other and made us feel pretty rushed. (We were sitting in the "garden room" and had a super tiny table, which I assume under normal circumstances would be fine) By the time our pasta course came out there was no place to put the bowl on our small table. Our server asked if we wanted the pizza, which we hadn't had a chance to touch yet, boxed to go. We didn't and they reluctantly took the pasta back until we had a chance to finish. I'd say the timing of the dishes was the only downside of an otherwise excellent meal. I'd absolutely go back and recommend Harp and Crown!

AMAZING Flavours, ambiance, and service

By TrentAnna1 |

Our server was very knowledgeable about the food which really added to the experience. She knew exactly what foods went together, the best plates, and what to recommend. AMAZING food! MUST HAVES: Lamb Meatball, Skirt Steak The ambiance was very very cool. It looked as if it was an old warehouse that was turned into a restaurant. We sat a table that was connected to a couch, which was interesting, definitely not for everyone. We really liked it but there were people who asked to move to regular tables, and servers were happy to make the adjustment. Absolute gem of place!

Pleasant Surprise on Sansom Street!

By djaungst66 |

Met friends for a going away toast for a colleague and was pleasantly surprised by the hip interior vibe, the offering of draft libations and the tasty menu of small plates. We shared a bunch - but the standouts included the pork belly lettuce wraps and the macaroni and cheese - both were served hot and were thoroughly enjoyed by the table. There were more - but can't recall them all!

Fun buffet brunch with lots of optikns

By USCKaboom |

Harp & Crown was a good place for a group brunch with friends. The buffet has a ton of options. Nothing was wow but overall good. I enjoyed the seafood options, shrimp cocktail and smoked salmon. They have a donut bar where you can add toppings. The donuts themselves were underwhelming. Hot food was also plentiful. The fried chicken bites were good. The best may have been the biscuit with a cheddar gravy. There’s an omelette bar. Cocktails. And more.

Great choice for sharing and socializing!

By BeakerTX |

Excellent business meal while in town for a conference. In reasonable walking distance from the convention center. Convenient online reservation through a popular app. Interior was very dark and loud, but we were seated in the more pleasant front ‘garden’ area. Service was excellent throughout the meal. The menu is setup as small plates. Staff did a nice job of spreading out the plates. The two of us shared 7 plates....all of which were delicious. The cauliflower was a bit much. Probably would not get it again. Highly recommend the lamb meatballs and buccotini pasta. Nice drink selection to accompany the meal. Great choice for a meal with variety and socializing.

Rude Service

By Sondra F |

Unfortunately, one of the Sunday brunch servers ("Waffle Guy") was extremely unpleasant with some derogatory comments for my friend who he thought jumped the line. It was truly uncalled for. Not only that, the restaurant was dark, crowded and loud making the whole experience somewhat distasteful.

All hype

By James O |

Disappointing to say the least. We made a reservation and got there a bit early. We were seated at a place which was more awkward than a coach seat on Southwest. We were reseated when it became obvious we were going to leave. You would think that they would do a better job but no. I would also point out seeing a bouncer's butt 3 inches from my table is unlikely to whet my appetite. By this point we were hungry so we decided to proceed. The host had offered us drinks( so we thought). We were wrong. The drinks came as did the bill. We then had a lecture on the style of the restaurant followed by a dissertation on the quality of the food. All would have been forgiven if the food was good, it was not. The Palm salad was so sour as to be inedible. The cheese board was at best fair and the lamb steak was mediocre. I won't even talk about the pineapple upside down cake which was none of the above. Drinks were poorly crafted and wine selection was fair. Our waitress Jackie needs socialization remedial training. Pushy, condescending and unaware is no way to through life. Overall too much hype and not enough substance.

I’m in love!

Absolutely in love with this place! Cocktails are delicious.... food is amazing! Service was great! Nice atmosphere .... low dimmed lights... fun for friends or great for a date.... can be a bit loud. We love it would recommend!

Meh

By KellysGirl0805 |

We finally got to Harp and Crown for brunch. It was just ok. The staff so slow and unfriendly. The food was mediocre. There are so many amazing places for brunch that I️ will never return. I️d think about trying dinner but again the staff is meh as well. Also, over $220 for brunch for 4! Insane

Great brunch

By Sunny P |

For $30 per person, their weekend brunch isn’t a bargain but very very good. There’s the usual omelette station, prime rib, fruit, cold shrimp, smoked salmon and then there’s the chicken and waffles. There are the usual desserts and then there’s the make your own donuts. Coffee is good and their cocktails are very good. Make your reservation because it’s very popular.

Great menu and Service

Was in Philly for business and had dinner here with a couple colleagues. Great menu, hard to choose what to have. Outstanding flavors and quality, well presented. Nice selection of drinks as well. Excellent and friendly service. Definitely would go here again. Your foodie side will be rewarded.

NOISY ON A SAT. NIGHT BUT A GOOD MEAL

By animaleyedoc |

no reservations but we were seated at a large table that sat other couples which was ok..Had theater and so we asked our waitress to be aware of that and she most certainly was. I had a appetizer of octopus , we both had salads and then I had lamb canneloni and my wife had halibut; all of which was well prepared and quite good. The restaurant is long and narrow with seating in the center and along the walls which makes good use of the space. It is my understanding that there is a bowling alley in the basement but you have to have reservations for that. We finished with a lemon tart which did not have enough lemon flavor to it but all in all, a good meal and my guess it that during the week it is probably more sane and a little quieter. I will go back on a weekday...

Stylish, great date spot

By scotttmiller1 |

Really beautiful interior, stylish and reminiscent of the best spots in my former neighborhood in Brooklyn. Excellent drinks, lively crowd, overall a great place for a drink and a little conversation. It gets busy, but the crowd was not unpleasantly dense.

Not For Us

By Eric W |

We will not return. The restaurant has numerous practices that are inconsistent with our interests when choosing where we will dine-out. Despite reservations, a waiting table and multiple requests to seat those present in our group, we were repeatedly advised that it was the restaurant's policy to seat only when all guests in a party have arrived. So our group stood awkwardly in the entryway, waiting permission to be shown to the table (the whole group arrived shortly but the discomfort of our initial contact set the tone for the evening). After being seated, we ordered drinks and planned our meal choices. When the server came she explained that the kitchen is fast-paced and will serve all selections as they are completed - regardless of any sequence of dining that may have been wanted. To try and work with the system we ordered several items as starters - and stated that we would order more selections after the first plates came. Our server then advised it was the restaurant's practice for the entire meal to be ordered all at the same time - never mind our interests. When the bill came, the tip was calculated at a default rate and shown in the total (not a gratuity already added for a large party - but a pre-selected radio button as a default). We begrudgingly did not change the default. And so after waiting to be seated we ate a mishmash of plates - some two, three or four at a time - in a sequence and at a pace convenient for the kitchen. Any quality of the food or features of the space could not offset the total lack of accommodation we felt, while the staff read script on the Harp & Crown policies and practices (and then tipped themselves). The overall experience was not enjoyable for us.

Incredible

By Wendler-Philipp |

I‘m not one to like small plate places, but this one is incredible! Truly everything on this menu is amazing. We ordered a couple of plates to start and realized that they were quite small so we ordered more and got to try 2/3 of the menu. While it can get loud and crowded, it is worth going. It was not hard to get a table for two on a Friday night. The very best was the Tuna starter! It‘s the most delicious tuna I‘ve ever had! We got it and loved it so we got it again!

Sunny Energetic Brunch

By William A |

After a quick errand in Rittenhouse Square on Saturday 3/17, I had brunch at Harp & Crown on Sansom Street. First off, the restaurant space is beautiful with a very relaxing look and feel. Personal space between tables and between tables and the bar (where the brunch buffet takes place) can be a little tight when full of happy eager patrons, but everyone makes it work. Second, the service here is right on point: friendly, courteous, and professional. Third, my brunch was very good. The hostess took care of me with a great little table in the entry tiled foyer which thankfully was filled with sunshine and convincingly made you believe you were in an outdoor courtyard. Coffee and a $6 Bloody Mary special got me off to a great start. I tried the omelet station, added some breakfast sausage, and some salad, and created a mini plate with shrimp, a little soppressata and slice of provolone. After a bagel and a second Bloody Mary, I realized this brunch was thoroughly enjoyable and comforting. The crowd is a visibly happy mix of bachelorette parties, families, friends, couples, the well-heeled, and college students. I recommend Harp & Crown for brunch and plan to try it sometime for dinner. As a funny side note: The rest rooms have a shared sink area for men and women. So just know if you are initially startled seeing someone unexpected on the other side of the door, your cocktail was not the source of your temporary confusion.

All around great experience!!!

By DomenicaP1031 |

We were so impressed with everything about Harp and Crown. We were celebrating our anniversary and they were very accommodating for us. We chose a seat in the garden area so it was nice because for at least the first hour it was just us. Our reservation was at 5. We chose the Chefs tasting option which turned out to be a great choice. We were able to select 7 things off the menu and they were split between us. It was a good amount of food, I left stuffed. My husband could have eaten more lol. Our waiters name was Richard and he was a great server! Across the board, with timeliness and suggestions and just casual conversation, he was fantastic! Must tries: Lamb meatballs, bucatini with Dungeness crab, hanger steak, and the margarita pizza was delicious. My favorite part of the meal was the blueberry whoppie pies and the chocolate cake. Don’t miss a trip downstairs to the vintage bowling lanes. This place was definitely worth the trip and we can’t wait to go back for the brunch!

So many better choices. It’s

By Ash |

So many better choices. It’s designed to favor large groups, so if you are a couple and don’t get seated along the wall, you are one of three couples at a very wide table. The width and the noise, louder bc of so many large parties, makes it hard to hear. Our waiter had that extremely irksome trait of saying “we” (how are we enjoying our dinner) when he meant “you.” Food ok not special. Sunchokes under cooked with dirt taste. Cake so dry hard to cut. Keep looking.

GREAT place!

By HSR112 |

I was with 3 other ladies and we had a lovely meal. I liked the booth table, and our waiter was great. The other wait staff kept clearing things all night, which was really nice. They seem to work together. The Ruby Slipper drink was good, but much smaller than it appeared in all of the review photos I saw. The fig pizza was great, but my favorite was the short rib. I just wish it was a lot bigger. We shared a couple other things as well. The cheese appetizer dish with almonds and blueberries was a great starter. WARNING: this place is hard to find as I did not see any sign with their name on it out front, just a large, black, fabric entry box. Perhaps this is only during winter? Anyway - go - it's great!

Worst service ever!

By World Traveler |

I had been to harp and crown a few times and was starting to feel comfortable brining friends and colleagues to show it off. However, my last visit will be my last visit. The service could not have been worse, and it was neither crowded nor understaffed. I noticed one of the managers speaking to the staff repeatedly towards the back of the bar, but my friends and I were ignored even though we were practically sitting next to them. One of the bartenders was outright rude and continued setting us while making drinks. “Dude, it’s condensation” was his response when I finally said something to him after he somehow didn’t get the numerous non-verbal clues we gave him. When my cousin arrived, I felt like I had to beg the bartender to come over with a drink menu. Getting a food menu was out of the question. After a long wait, my hungry cousin chose to leave to get something to eat and the rest of my friends went somewhere with a friendlier staff who actually wanted to serve their guests. I had kept an open tab and asked for the bill for my party. Because everyone else had left, i quickly wrote the tip on the bill and signed it. It wasn’t until the next day when i realized that they didn’t even return my card! I called the following day and they said they found my card and would leave it at the host stand. I went to get it with three friends, but we were not allowed to enter. The bouncer said it was too crowded. He allowed me to go in to get my card, and it was NOT too crowded - especially the downstairs bar. I used to run the front of house at one of the top clubs in Philly so i know. There was plenty of room at both bars. Anyway, two people introduced themselves as managers but it took them 15 minutes to find my card. One said she would call me to discuss the issues from the other night, but of course, i never heard from them. No apologies. No caring. No nothing. Well, no more of my business. It’s sad. I was hoping that Harp and Crown would have been my regular spot, but after this experience, I’m done.

Varied and Interesting Food in a Cozy Large Booth

By ok12345 |

My family and I stumbled upon Harp & Crown last Friday night, we got a big booth in the back of the restaurant. All the servers were helpful and attentive, without hovering. We split a wide varied of appetizers and dishes. The White Fish Toast was delicious, as were the Lamb Meatballs, Spanish Octopus, Fried Brussels Sprouts and the Mac & Cheese and Spicy Soppressata Pizza. It was a great variety and selection of flavors; sweet and spicy and interesting textures...I have to say all of the above were delicious and complimented each other very nicely. We drank red and white wine though it would be less expensive to buy a bottle of wine. The desserts were ok, but not stellar. We had the Cheesecake which was better than the Pineapple Upside-down cake which tasted flat and flavorless. Just a terrific meal in a very welcoming atmosphere. Though the space was large it felt intimate and we could talk to each other easily.

Great place with great service

My girlfriend and I just went for some drinks at the bar. Very cool ambiance. Our bartender was Andy, who was on his first shift after finishing training and he was great. Such a friendly guy and made the experience very pleasant. The host was super friendly as well and gave us a little tour downstairs of the secluded bar and the bowling alley. Definitely need to check that out! Have been here before and definitely will return, but shout out to the awesome staff this time!

Before show dinner with group

By pat46455 |

Was A super place. Really couldn’t of been nicer. All the food was wonderful. We went a little early to have happy hour. That was probably the only thing that I wasn’t impressed with. Their drinks consisted of gin Chardonnay and a red wine. Otherwise the drinks are extremely expensive. You’re gonna have a happy hour at least have a few drinks that are of different types not just those. Not fine with any of those types of spirits. However dinner was a wonderful event. The food was delectable. The service was outstanding. Will come again and bring my husband. Definitely a place that people will visit.

Interesting.

Only had drinks. Interesting eclectic decor. We enjoyed our short visit. Plenty of room at the bar although we weren't able to book a table in advance on a busy Friday night.

Very Good Deal During Restaurant Week

By GoneTravelin07 |

Had an early dinner reservation, but opted to sit at the downstairs bar instead to also take advantage of some Happy Hour drink pricing which you cannot get if you sit in the dining room at a table. Bartender and other service staff working that area were really attentive and pleasant. For Restaurant Week they had an option to pick one item from each category on their main menu (with the exception of the pizzas) to share and it also included a dessert (same for everyone - no options to pick from, but delicious). We were completely stuffed walking out of there. Even when my friend had an issue with the bread for her fig toast being a little too hard, the staff saw she stopped eating it and went out of their way to see if they could come up with something else for her. Only disappointments were the oysters - tasted great, but very small and while they did offer 1 cocktail as part of the Happy Hour special, I opted to try a different one that wasn't included and was full price. While very tasty, it is served up in a tiny little glass which is finished off in about 3 sips. Despite a few little blips, overall this is a lovely place and the staff is top notch.

Brotherly Brunch

By Allen P |

It was great to find a restaurant full of life during COVID! They did a very good job the with brunch buffet being staged around the bar. Great food and a large variety of choices. On the other hand, $35 was a bit expensive for the experience. Charging me for soda refills that were 3/4 filled with ice was annoying. It is clear that they are trying to make money from pushing the big drink menu. Overall, great place, but we did feel a bit taken advantage.

Delicious tasting menu

By tripdokta |

Went to Harp and Crown with my son and daughter in law, also foodies like us. Had a great experience. Friendly, prompt service, excellent food. The only glitch was a water spill by a server that got my son a bit wet. This was met with profuse apology, a quick clean up, and a complimentary dessert. Particularly good food items were the whitefish salad on toast appetizer, the eggplant and fontina cheese pizza, and the roasted brussel sprouts. The dessert, a chocolate cake with caramel between layers, lacked flavor and was dry but the complimentary dessert, a strawberry rhubarb cheesecake, was so god we asked my son to take a few more water spills in exchange for more dessert. They have a nice wine and draft beer list. It is a big open space and includes the bar area so can be a bit noisy. The tasting menu, with 7 courses plus dessert for $45/person was a good value. We had plenty to eat and some leftovers to take home.

Event & bowling

By rcl69 |

Attended a food event and they put us in the basement, not a bad thing! The restaurant was packed for Sunday brunch and we got to go into the basement which to me was like a old speak easy. You had to walk a long hallway past the kitchen and into a room that included to bowling lanes, a long bar and chairs, couches and small tables. The food was a sampling of home made philly pizza, chicken waffles, donut bar, omelettes, sampling of hamburgers, subs and shredded pork all adored with Land O Lakes cheese (did you know they are a co-op not a mega corp?) and hosted by FeedFeed (not a typo). The food was tasty, sustainable sourced whenever possible and the staff very friendly and helpful. To top off they also served bloody marys and mimosas which added a little zing to it all.

Fantastic atmosphere, great food and good service

I really enjoyed dining at Harp & Crown. The Sunday brunch is expansive. While not open for brunch, the bowling alley in the basement speakeasy is amazing.

Great experience

Service was excellent, food tasted very well and the ambience is special here. My colleagues and I really enjoyed it!

Delish!

I highly recommend this restaurant! We got the tasting menu. It was a lot of food and it was ALL delicious! It is also so pretty inside which is a big plus for me!

Amazing buffet brunch

By Beth_McD05 |

I've been to Harp & Crown for dinner, but wanted to come back for brunch. Our waitress had recommended it and when I read the reviews, I knew I wanted to add it to the list! I met my son in Philadelphia and we had the most amazing brunch. The food is wonderful and there are many options. The service is excellent. Harp & Crown is a must whether you are going for brunch or dinner. If you are going for dinner, make sure to stop down to see the speak easy with the 2 lane Brunswick bowling alley. It is a really great place with a nice vibe!!

Don't miss it

By Stephen C |

Particularly if you like to assemble a meal out of small plates, so that you can taste a wider variety than with a regular meal, this is a great place to go. I have seen the label of 'gastro-pub' applied to this establishment, but it is much more gastro than pub, although there is a nice long bar I can recommend the faro salad, the pork belly, the brussel sprouts and poke. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient.

Birthday dinner

By kris096 |

Dinner was great, as were appetizers! Sharing portions are a must! Try cheese plate, sprouts, and burger to name a few of our favorites. Eclectic decor and specialty drinks highlight this place, but it may have been a little too dark to read the menu, and loud with crowd noise. Plus, a drink or two had been spilled on their way to us. We would definitely go back.

Classy Fun!

By JanetJulia |

This speak easy style establishment offers a sunny front room, a larger and darker back room, and a nearly hidden extra dining/bar area located in the basement and accessible by traversing a near rabbit's warren. While the bar might be the focal point of much of the restaurant it's the food that should get the most attention. We enjoyed a variety of appetizers and main dishes, each of which had a slightly unique aspect to it (tomatoes salad with tempura ramps, chicken fried mushrooms to name a few items). This was a fun, casual, yet trendy discovery.

Great atmosphere, food, staff...fun place!

By StRaymond |

Good food, cool ambiance....happy hour was rocking but not too loud. Friendly wait staff, good food....drinks are good, yet oddly served in your old elementary school's milk glasses...weird, but whatever....sit in a booth...they are cozy and the place is charming. The bowling bar downstairs looked like a great destination too. Can't go wrong here.

Great brunch

By Adam M |

We love coming here for brunch on Sundays. It is buffet style with lots of options and everything is quite tasty. The ambience inside reminds me of an old bank, darker woods, etc adds to the appeal. Service is always excellent and you can't beat the price considering what you get. Multiple options of tasty food and buffet style. Can get busy, but even then it's not too bad. Highly recommend for your next leisurely brunch.

Great Place

Went for a company party so were downstairs. Drinks and food were really good. Service was good and I love that they have a mini bowling alley too.

Saturday PM Cocktails

By MeraKi25 |

The bar here is so busy that even with 5 bar staff running all over, they couldn’t keep up fully. Cocktails are prepared in true speakeasy fashion with torched herbs and the like. They’re very strong, but good. Very chic vibe to the place too.

You have to have brunch here!

By sperezny |

They have an all you can eat brunch buffet on Sunday's. It's amazing! The choices are awesome and they have bagels, cream cheese, and lox. Prime rib, waffle station, omelette station, homemade donuts, and so much more. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. The place reminds me of an old British pub inside.

We had a fine evening in this beautifully done, lively space. Lots of intriguing dishes, meant to be shared, presented by an attentive, gracious team, complemented by very nice wine selections. A very pleasurable experience from start to finish...

Extraordinary from start to finish. Decor, service, food, everything was spot on. Concept is executed to perfection. This place is a must stop by anyone in Philadelphia.

Way Overpriced and Overrated Restaurant

By Thomas_Newtown_CT |

Ambiance of this restaurant is very nice - it was somewhat compromised by confusing entry and exit process (“normal” - I’m guessing exit was rerouted through side entrance but this was a minor trivial matter; bartender couldn’t mKe a proper nagrone and cocktails are served in a morning juice glass (priced otherwise); menu for dinner is limited and overpriced and It was clear at the outset that I should have been to any number of much better Philly options for Italian or Morton’s, Ruth Chris or Capital Grill for steak and sides - honestly - I felt like an idiot for coming here - way overpriced (I can afford but matter of principle) and the experience honestly wasn’t very nice - you can do way better for the price - this restaurant is way overpriced and way underperforms - if it was priced correctly it is 3.5 stars - at its current price it doesn’t deserve a rating

EXCELLENCE!

By Dave C |

Ambience, quality of food, selection, friendly check-in & staff, all equates to a sensational experience. Axel, Manager, attentive and makes the rounds with guests. Exerperience is A+

Loved it!

By wheelspw |

My wife and I had 7:30pm Saturday reservations for my birthday. We were checked in and then offered either a communal table seat or a small table for the two of us. (The restaurant is setup with a large bar on the left hand side, long communal tables that run center, and small bistro type tables that run the right side of the restaurant). We chose the small table. The seats were a little odd in that you sunk back and away from the small table in front of you. It didn't make that much of a problem though. Service - service was great. From first drink orders to final check, our main waitress, food runners, water person, table clearer were all on point. Drinks - there is a pretty good drink list of in house specialty cocktails, wine and beer. I had a classic Old Fashioned which was prepared very well. Actually two, but it was my birthday! My wife had red wine which she seemed to enjoy. Drinks were priced fairly and what I would consider consistent with downtown Philly drink prices. Food - we started with a wild boar pasta appetizer which was phenomenal. we moved onto a shared Branzino which was cooked well and just a few bones. Overall, the quality of the food was superior and flavorful. Atmosphere - definitely a good vibe. Its low lighting, lots of people but the sound level not too bad. Overall, a great dining experience. My wife and I would definitely go back or recommend to others.

Great flatbread, but not pasta

By Albert K |

Excellent service and atmosphere. This is definitely the hot spot for friends, family, and dates - it was incredibly packed even at 10pm for a dinner. Drinks - excellent choices. The Red Slippers are very well made and worth trying. Food: - bolognse - 3/5 - tasty, but not filling. Small portions and the noodle is very thin. - lamb meatballs - 4/5 - juicy, not too dry, and well cooked. - kale salad - 5/5 - great taste and healthy. - flatbread - 5/5 - extremely delicious, thin, and well made. The truffle one was to die for - philly eggroll - 4/5 - unique tasting, good crisp Overall, supe fun spot and would come here again.

How do you spell “over rated”. ?

By jerryr111 |

This was one of the more boring buffets that I’ve found in Philadelphia. Seating to start was crowded and the food selections were pretty average. Omelette was bland and small and the rest of the selections just weren’t up to par. The best part of the menu was the fruit. A nice selection of fresh seasonal mix. A one timer for me.

Not for Geezers

By jagman8f |

Here with 4 other men, the youngest of whom is 70. We concluded we were out of step with the vibe of the place. Initially, we were seated in the bar area. The noise was incredible, the server needing to yell (literally) to be heard over the din. I concluded not to stay and as I was walking out the door, the hostesses (pretty and pleasant) asked if there was something wrong. I explained the reason I was going and they offered to change our seating. I accepted the offer and my buddies were delighted both that I was staying and that we were being moved. The replacement, in the entry area, was much better though still loud; we were able to converse. Server was fine. He announced the service was at the chef's convenience, i.e., the food comes out when ready. As a result some of us were finished eating, by the time others were served. As to the food, a pizza for the table was delicious as were the lamb meatball appetizers. Two us us ordered halibut which was tasty and beautiful. Ditto for an order of scallops. The "pappardelle" with "wild boar ragu" not so much. The pasta was, I believe, more like linguini than pappardelle. The "wild Boar" was the palest wild meat I have ever seen and the sauce rather gluey. The people were fine and accommodating and food for the most part pretty good, served in reasonably sized portions at fair prices. But in my opinion, H&C will appeal to a younger crowd. I much prefer the far more civilized dining next door, at Giuseppe & Son (same ownership).

Good but too loud

By Nancy G |

We came here for dinner on a Friday evening. I had made a reservation via the phone four days earlier. They had no record of it but we were seated in the back anyway. We were a party of four. To start I ordered the tuna carpaccio. It was wonderful. My husband ordered the crab and avocado appetizer. He loved it. For dinner two of us ordered the seared scallops. They enjoyed it. I ordered the hanger steak and it was very good (although it arrived a full five minutes earlier than everyone else’s meal - awkward!). My husband had the roasted salmon. He thought it was way to overcooked and dry. It was served with large beans which were not cooked at all. They were impossible to eat. His dish arrived last. Odd timing on the food. During dinner we ordered several bottles of wine and cocktails. We had to repeatedly remind the waiter that we were waiting on the wine. He would quickly disappear and reappear with the wine and cocktails. I did not appreciate having to constantly remind him. Our server was Jamie. Otherwise he was OK. The one thing you have to be warned of is the noise level. It was difficult to hear our dining partners across the table at times. The music was odd and way too loud.

What a great Surprise

By Joe C |

The food was outstanding, our server was great. The place was deceiving the food was upscale and served to perfection!

Great setting, atmosphere, food, and service!

By Mark L |

Came here to celebrate a graduation and it was a wonderful dinner. Old world, rustic restaurant provided a great atmosphere for a delicious dinner. We selected a variety of dishes (salad, cold, hot, Meat+fish, vegetables, and dessert) to try and share as couples. Everything we tried was delicious! My favorites were the Heirloom Beet salad, the grilled hanger steak, charred asparagus, and chocolate cake. Next time I'll try the "chef's choice" selections...I can't imagine anything wouldn't be delicious!

Taste should always prevail over ambiance

By sgadd2018 |

I was less than impressed with served. Salmon was black and hard on top. Rigatoni had so much red pepper in it I only ate half. I was expected to be wowed - Much the opposite. Ambiance was awesome - can’t just go half way.

Unique

By Mary I |

Invited to dinner with business associates. Planned group family style menu was fun, diverse and delicious. Servers were so good, you hardly noticed them. The dishes were served a little too far apart, but otherwise a fun evening!

Restaurant week visit

By xopaninixo |

I would say all the dishes I’ve chosen for restaurant week menu was great besides the roasted cauliflower which was overly dry and tasteless. The sopressata pizza was amazing! The bucatini pasta with crab was superb. The tuna appetizer was delicious. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. Not many places wow me because I am an excellent cook so I am extremely picky on calling a restaurant good.

Checks all the boxes!

By Serviceprof |

The family enjoyed the restaurant’s Sunday brunch. The restaurant exudes an old world charm. Service was very good. Brunch offerings were plentiful and included just the right amount of pastries, juices, salad choices, meat choices to include a carved item , and an egg station that provided “whatever you desired”. This is a “must return “ option when in Philly.

Upscale Pub

By anital811 |

Good food and wine! Ate here with my daughter our first night in town. From the name, I expected more of a pub atmosphere; this was slightly higher-end (not that there's anything wrong with that.) Good service and selections for what we wanted.

Try the happy hour

By Keith D |

I’m not a happy hour person, since I like what I like. But we went early before dinner service and found some great offerings. The place filled up fast for dinner, so I’m glad we made a reservation. Enjoyed several small plates, all of them done well. Service was good, especially at the bar. Also liked the funky decor.

Perfect Bar Happy Hour Date Spot

By DJ P |

Walking into Harp & Crown for the first time feels like walking into a "Mad Men" type of setting. It is a dimly lit restaurant with a long bar and well dressed patrons/staff. We had a 530 reservation and were shown to our table quicklyto enjoy afew cocktails. The cocktails were amazing. $12 a piece but that is pretty standard for center city. I highly suggest the dying declaration if you are a bourbon fan. Food was delicious but extremely small portions. Great for a date or small group of friends. Not good spot for work dinner with colleagues. I highly suggest the octopus (cooked to perfection), pork belly (over a delicious salad - Only 2 pieces of meat), and the burrata. We enjoyed the scallops, salmon, and pappardelle as entrees. All were good. Scallops came with 3, salmon was generous portion, and pappardelle was ok size. Wait staff was extremely knowledgeable, not necessarily friendly. I would definitely come back for a drink and app at the bar. Bar scene was extremely strong.

Great atmosphere

By TRV |

Went there one night with friends while in town for a long weekend. We sat at the bar, had some amazing cocktails, wonderful staff and great food.

Best brunch in years

By CraigJR |

If you're of a certain age (like me), you'll recall a time when a great Sunday brunch buffet was a norm, with many restaurants doing it well. Those days seem to be largely in the past. Brunch at H&C is a welcome throwback. We went yesterday. The room is warm and inviting. There was a reasonable variety of options from apps to sides to mains to deserts. Everything we tried was spot-on and well prepared. Service was excellent: the waitress did not hover, was available when we wanted, and we were not rushed out. The only negative is that with only one chef making two omelets at a time, there were at times a fairly significant line for a custom omelet. That said, I waited a bit for the line to subside, and the omelet was well worth the wait. I definitely recommend this brunch, and we'll be back.

Nice decide, mediocre food, terrible service

By Jack |

Group of 10 of us with a reservation had dinner tonight. Our server was rude and impatient, insisting we had to order everything at once. Though we explained each of us wanted a specific entree they refused to accommodate our request bringing the food out in drips and drabs over 2 hours so we could not eat together. When dishes did arrive servwrs just dropped them in the table not bothering to even explain what the items were. Empty dishes went uncollected though we complained. When the food did come out much of it was like warm. The portion sizes are not suitable for sharing and we had to ask three times for menus to try and order more food. We just gave up, and many of us have now left to find another restaurant as several of us have left hungry. Explaining our frustrations to the manager was a waste if time as he just ignored our feedback and clearly did not care. Unbelievable how pretentious and snooty the staff are here. Our group was clearly unwelcome here and we will not be back.

Great time and great value

By Martin p8 |

Visited a number of places when we were in Philadelphia and this was definitely our favorite. A nice room with good food and very well priced. They have a 4-7 pm happy hour and you can’t go wrong with $5 beers, wine and appetizers. The staff were generous with their recommendations and provided great service. A lively (busy) room. We came back again and will next time in Philly. Recommended.

Why are you abusing your customers ?

By Abfab |

We went tonight (5 friends). We order 5 "surprise menus" (45 doll each) explaining that one of us was shrimps allergic. 1) the number of meals is much less than what we could have choosing for 5X45 doll in the menu... Not fair... 2) the waiter made a mistake and brought two plates of shrimps. We asked to get them changed and after 20 Minutes we got instead ... one little plate of (too salted) pasta with cheese !!! We couldn't believe it ! It is a pity because some plates are really good (watermelon and cheese / roasted well done beef / octopus) but they are definitely too unfair... Beware !

Old World Luxurious..Decor & Food

By PhillyShaney |

A friend suggested we stop by for Happy Hour to give it a once over before we make reservations for dinner. I love the decor when you walk-in - it had an "old-world touch with a sense of luxury. The wrap around bar is nice and offers plenty of seating. I heard about the lamb meatballs and asked the bartender about them - she highly recommended - so we had that along with winter squash crostini and lamb sausage. The lamb meatballs were flavorful the sausage was seasoned perfectly and the crostini with the goat cheese was yummy. Our drinks were an: Affair to Forget; Sideways Car and later some Malbec wine - all were delicious!! The service was friendly and prompt. We felt Harp and Crown passed the preliminary test - will definitely pop back in to have dinner and maybe reserve a bowling lane downstairs.

Nice setting

By Fussy foodie |

I think the ambience in this restaurant is very good. After that, I would rate the food good but the overall dining experience is a bit disappointing We were two couples and very experienced foodies, but we were all totally confused after our waitress’ “explanation” of the menu and how it was to be served “tapas style”. We were considering leaving after the second attempt of explanation because it simply made no sense to us and we had no idea what we were going to receive. In the end, we ordered and indeed we were disappointed in the end. Our starters did all arrive together but 2 of the mains arrived and were finished before the other’s pizza did get to the table. That sort of put a damper on the whole experience because felt that the restaurant were thinking that the pizza was going to be shared around, but that was not our intention This restaurant should change their menu and stick to a normal starter and main course arrangement. The food was nice but how it is served is just too confusing for non-regulars. I wouldn’t go back unless things changed

Cozy and friendly

By Jennifer P |

I was attracted by the cozy romantic atmosphere when passing by but the restaurant proved a pleasant surprise. The menu is not huge but provides a nice selection of dishes of different sizes, lots of vegetables which is nice. I had the chicken dish which was delicious. My waiter was very attentive and entertaining which was much appreciated since I was on my own. I recommend the cocktails, I tried a tequila cucumber and a rum and peach and they were both excellent. Only downside, it’s quite dark but don’t be afraid to ask for a candle, no need to strain your eyes to read the menu! All in all I would definitely recommend this restaurant to solo travelers, couples and groups alike.

Cheers to the Harp & Crown!

By Paul H |

The Harp & Crown has a lovely pub atmosphere. The food did not disappoint at all, and the service was very friendly and efficient (we sat and ate at the bar). Highly recommended.

A 5 Star Interior

By pookala |

This is a beautiful soaring space, both comfortable & romantic. Harp & Crown would be great for large groups & families, smaller meals among friends, or a couple's date night. The food, however, has been hit and miss (I've been twice). It's not awful, but its certainly not special. Your best bets here are the simplest items. This is really volume dining and anything that takes an enormous amount of prep or attention is not going to be the kitchen's strong suit. The service is well-meaning, but a bit scattershot. Don't let them take your cocktails away too quickly, something that happened both times we dined here. Since this is a fairly new restaurant I would certainly go back and try it again as the chefs, kitchen staff and management settle in to the rhythm of their business. And way cool, there is a bowling alley/lounge in the basement which is available for private parties.

Stop what you are doing and make reservations!!

By Beth_McD05 |

We visited Harp & Crown for Restaurant Week because it is such a great way to try a restaurant and see if you would like to come back. Harp & Crown not only knocked it out of the ballpark, they won the World Series!! Our server, Jonathan, was amazing! At Harp and Crown you sit at a communal table and are given the opportunity to make selections for your group and they serve how many are in your group. You make a selection from each of these groups: Salad (we chose the Crown), Cold (we chose the domestic artisanal cheeses with jam, almonds, and raspberry jam), Hot (we chose the lamb meatballs with date relish, yogurt and mint) Pizza (we chose spicy soppressata, shishito, honey and provolone) Pasta (we chose rooster comb mac and cheese, Parmesan, fontina, and toasted bread crumbs), Meat/Fish (we chose Grilled hanger steak with green beans, wax beans, and cippolini), and Vegetables (we chose the roasted cauliflower with herb, lemon zest, and toasted breadcrumbs). The dessert of the day was banana cake. Jonathan told us to go downstairs after our meal to check out the speakeasy and bowling alley. I loved the ambiance upstairs and downstairs and can't wait to take up Jonathan's advice to come back for the Sunday brunch. Whatever you are doing, stop and go make reservations!! This is a must!

Tasty and unique

By Clandisfire |

When you walk in, chances are it will be loud - and crowded. Very high ceilings in a chic and funky setting - lots to look at. The ambience gives off good vibes - as does the staff, who are efficient and attentive. They have a great selection of small plate selections --the mushroom farro salad was really tasty and the chicken liver toast was modified with gluten free toast for us - and it was fantastic. They have an ample selection of wines by the glass and a rather extensive bottled wine list... and they make some great cocktails: the Charred Stone is a winner!

Loud, mediocre food and a waiter that didnt even look at us

By dvangalen |

In our reservation we mentioned that it was our first time ever in Philly and we were looking forward to a meal at Harp & Crown. Unfortunately it all was a huge disappointment. First of all it was not the more intimate restaurant that the website photo's make you believe: in contrary: it is a large, impersonal space with music so loud you feel more in a bar than a restaurant. The food was mediocre: the steak partly charcoal, partly bloody; the potatoes undercooked. But above all the service was so unpleasantly impersonal: the guy somehow seemed to refuse to look at us and did not make any attempt to make it a pleasurable experience. Aloof is the word that comes to mind. All in all not the memory of Philly we hoped to take back home.

Was there 10 days ago, I cannot

By Alexandrine |

Was there 10 days ago, I cannot believe how affordable happy hour drinks and food was 😜 Such a nice place , we had some pizza, burgers and cocktails - it was the perfect night out

Chef's tasting menu was a delightful surprise

By Bettina |

This palace was recommended by a friend and we were WOW-ed from the entry moment on. Ian, our server took great care of us, explaining all the items on the menu and answered every single one of my multi million questions with patience. He recommended the chefs table prepared by Alex and we could not have dined better. Starting with the Tuna Tartar, Burata and toasted Sourdough and Lamb Meatballs, we were so positively surprised by Alex's delicious voices. Furthermore we had Pasta and Pizza which filled us up but they were prepared with a to go box, as more items were coming along our way. The final dishes were Scallops and grilled asparagus which both hit the spot absolutely. Before sending out the Check, Ian surprised us with a Chocolate Cake as dessert, which ended our tasting experience. Ian and Alex - I would come back in a heartbeat to dine with you two again - Thank you for making this evening so special to us.

HH Done Right

They do Sunday HH! Great lamb meatballs and popcorn that melts in your mouth while exploding in taste at the same time. So happy I looked across the street and found this spot!

A Happy Accident

By Jack D |

We were looking for an interesting dinner in central Philadelphia and google showed us Harp and Crown. An easy walk from the hotel brought us to its understated, sign less entrance. Despite our lack of reservation (recommended), we were given a table. Our excellent and personable waiter provided a very informed presentation of the intricacies of the menu and the philosophies of the chef. Some of the dishes we sampled were on a par with some of New York’s best. Ricotta Gnocchi with asparagus, morels and a very tasty olive oil was fresh and light; the bite was perfect. Hanger Steak, grilled exactly right, with chimichurri, puréed turnip and potatoes was hailed as one of the best in a long while. Mushroom toast and lamb balls were superb small plates. The lamb balls had a distinct Moroccan influence with a light tomato sauce, yogurt and mint. It’s clear that this restaurant takes pride in its offerings as evidenced by the top quality ingredients and eclectic choices. Great luck finding this place.

A Happening Place

By BASTripper |

We ate dinner here on New Year's eve. We felt like we were in a hip joint! We were with the "in crowd", yet it was a real restaurant, not too noisy. A fabulous menu with lots of delicious choices. A very positive experience. Thank you!

Pleasant Suprise!

By Beachgalxo |

We had been on a tour in Philadelphia and made a brunch reservation here for afterwards. There were ten of us. We arrived thirty minutes early and our table wasn't ready. One of us needed to be home so we requested to break the group up into two tables. They were very accommodating. The brunch was $28 for all you can eat with a optional $15 drink package (four drinks). We opted for food only. There was a good selection and everything we had was good. We are all picky eaters with respect to quality (not quantity) and each of us was pleasantly surprised at how good each item was. If you in the area and looking for quantity and quality, try Harp & Crown, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Amazing Sunday brunch

By Mandy007 |

I can't rave enough about our experience at this hip and unique restaurant. We had a 1:45 reservation and showed up quite early and they were very accommodating. The restaurant is non-descriptive from the street - and this was intentional upon speaking to the manager. It is reminiscent of the old speak easy bars. I am getting ahead of myself. This was all revealed on a tour that we were given after our scrumptious meal. The main level seating is interesting and unique. There are longer tables in the middle of the restaurant and cozy two seaters and booths along the side. The buffet was set up amongst the tables. There was so much selection and everything was extremely tasty. Some highlights for me were the decorate your donuts, everything croissants, honey butter, chicken salad, tartines, and juice bar. There was roast beef, smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, sausage, wonderful fresh fruit, omelette to order and the list goes on. They really have covered all of the bases. The presentation was unique and interesting. It was well attended to as well. The restaurant was full but not overcrowded which was also nice. We didn't have to line up for the buffet as you do with many buffets. We loved everything we tried! Afterwards, the manager took us on a tour of the lounge and bowling alley- yes there is a 2 lane alley in the basement . The lounge and bar is reminiscent of a speak easy and as we were leaving we understood why the entrance to the restaurant was so non-descript. The Harp & Crown was refreshing and nothing like any other buffet we have experienced. We would definitely return for the brunch and we will try dinner in the lounge area downstairs. Excellent service, tasty food, good pricing, and such a wonderful feel makes this a 5 star for me.
