Great Old Family Run Restaurant

By ElleVancouver11 |

Not too many of these type of restaurants left so we had to stop in for breakfast. We had the Superfecta and the Chicken Steak and Waffles. Everything was as good as breakfast can get, even if they went a little overboard on the gravy on the Chicken Steak, I just scraped the excess off, it was quite good. Our waitress, was happy and bubbly. It's been here for 50 years and looks like it has a loyal clientelle and will be here another 50.

Local diner. Nice breakfast

By Travis P |

Snazzy diner with lots of fun art on the walls. Nice staff. Seems like a lot of locals eat here. Coffee was not the best but the food was good. Really enjoyed the oatmeal with fruit. Tasty hash browns. And the toast was from local place (yay).

Great breakfast, efficient and friendly

By Rich A |

Had a great breakfast with my wife and daughter. Timely, friendly and fair prices. Bustling work-a-day atmosphere. Efficient and friendly crew.

"I'm gonna walk the earth"

By Bryan B |

This place - even though it looks nothing like it - reminds me of the diner from Pulp Fiction. You look outside and see palm trees and sun, crazy cars driving by and people actually smiling at each other (I'm from New England if you can't tell). The food is pretty good - some goofy selections on there make it more fun than your typical diner - and the staff were all very friendly and laid back. Definitely a nice joint to visit if you're in La Jolla and craving some breakfast fare.

50’s Diner

By Jackie S |

Good food and excellent waitstaff. Good-sized portions. I ordered the oatmeal pancakes with bacon. Very filling.

Not good at all

By Celeste96 |

Was so disappointed in Harry’s. So many excellent reviews over the years but we were met with food that tasted processed and seemed to come from from a bag. Nothing tasted right, chemical taste to no taste . American cheese thrown on top of eggs , super dry inside . Hash browns were inedible too. Service was amazing though, sorry to have to rate the food this way.

The favorite locals’ breakfast place since 1960!!

By 2beans2000 |

Harry’s Coffee Shop is a classic diner in the heart of La Jolla. They have the soda fountain where you can sit on the bar stools and talk with the servers or watch the short order cooks do their magic....or be seated in a booth to be served by one of the servers we’ve known since our kids were in baby carriers. This is a locals place that welcomes everyone as if they were locals. Harry’s is just plain friendly down to the core! The menu offers great breakfasts served all day or lunches served at breakfast!! Whatever you’d like! Our family favorites include: Pecan-banana waffle Raisin French toast Eggs Benedict (Hollandaise on the side) Potato pancakes BLT turkey reuben This is a kid-friendly restaurant. When my twins were in elementary school we even held birthday parties here and created menus so the kids could check off what they’d like for lunch.... Harry’s makes everyone feel special and the food is always good. Welcome and have a seat... the coffee will be right on over!!

Amazing iconic classic and delicious

Local and very friendly!

By Stéphanie R |

There’s no better place to start the day in La Jolla than Harry’s Coffee Shop, a local institution since 1960. The location on Girard couldn’t be a better one and the inside decoration immediately takes you back to the 1960s as soon as you step in and are greeted by the friendly and dedicated staff. Booths are surrounded by baseball memorabilia and Norman Rockwell posters. We went there for breakfast and loved the generously tasty plates of pancakes, eggs and bacon. We’ll definitely go again!

Great Breakfast

By Eric L |

First time visit, but we will go again. Good food and good service at a reasonable price. The omelettes were very good and so was the coffee.

Visit La Jolla? You've gotta visit Harry's Coffee Shop!!

By 2beans2000 |

Friendliest breakfasts and lunches in La Jolla. Part of the fabric of La Jolla since the 60's. A family-run business where everyone knows the locals and are happy to have the visitors as well. (to act like a local, park in the back parking lot off of Herschel and walk in the back entrance like a pro!!) Our kids are in high school and we've been taking them to Harry's since they were in their baby carriers!! They open at 6:30am so if you have early-rising kids, Harry's is the place to find hot pancakes, hot coffee, and friendly smiles early in the morning. Our family favorites are the pecan banana waffle; the raisin french toast with berries and pecans; crispy bacon; their turkey reuben at lunchtime; huevos rancheros anytime, and just good ol' family gab time in a booth with maybe a latte or a milkshake.... All is right with the world when you can find a friend, find a family member and slide into a booth at Harry's! I took my husband to Harry's for his birthday breakfast today.... it's just that kind of place.

Love coming for breakfast!! So many great choices.

By 2beans2000 |

Harry’s is our favorite breakfast place in La Jolla for a good ol’ easy breakfast. We brought our Sunday New York Tines and enjoyed a big booth and out lattes as we ordered a couple of favorites.... My husband loves the corned beef hash and it serves as a breakfast/lunch item for the day. I combined simple poached eggs with their potato pancakes which are unbelievably tasty. My kids and I love these potato pancakes.... a simple little item in the menu but give it a try. Enjoy some time in a booth at Harry’s to read a real newspaper.... it’s a bit retro and relaxing! Order a latte and sone breakfast and you’ve really got it made!!

Delicious - and gluten free!

By Shelly T |

We enjoyed our breakfast here so much! Loved the coffee pot on the table! The gluten free french toast was so very good!

Great Service and Food - Loved It

By 315David303 |

Keeping in mind we are talking about a coffee shop that serves great breakfasts and lunches, I was really impressed. First and foremost, the service sets the gold standard for morning coffee spots. Friendly, zero attitude, everyone has a smile, and you will not go five minutes without someone checking to make sure you're happy. The food (scrambled eggs, beautifully done beacon, whole wheat toast, large OJ) was superb. The restaurant was recommended to me by a fellow New Yorker, and although I was working in San Diego, it was worth the 12 mile trip for breakfast. It is now on my mental map any time I am in the area. Breakfast came to $15 before tip. Stop by and enjoy the food and the atmosphere, and introduce yourself to Harry.

Rude service and Dirty floors!

By julie w |

Went to Harry’s for breakfast with my daughter and husband and it is the worst place we have been to in a long time. First no one acknowledged us when we walked up to get a table finally we caught the eye of a waitress and she told us to write our name on a waitlist. No one was waiting except for us. Sat for several more minutes and finally someone showed us to our table. After that nothing no one would take our order. Several servers walked by and totally ignored us. Not sure what is happening here. We got smart and left. Won’t be going back. Did I also mention the inside looked filthy?

Time Travel When Eating at Harry's...

By mejormanza |

I recently returned to eat at Harry's Coffee Shop in La Jolla in late-September with my son and we stepped into a Time Machine, once we opened the restaurant's rear doors. This "coffee shop" has been churning out quality, down-home, All-American cooking and food for over fifty years. I have been visiting Harry's since about 1979 when I lived in San Diego. Over the years I came to know Harry Sr. and eventually Harry Jr./Rudy when he came to play golf for the University of Arizona Men's Golf Team in the early 90's. Harry Sr. was a great dad, guy and supporter of Arizona golf. Rudy was our #1 player on the UA golf team when we won the NCAA Men's Golf Tournament in 1993 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was paired against Phil Mickelson of Arizona State, who won the Individual Crown, and kept Phil in check. Trivia fact - Jim Furyk was FOURTH Man on our golf team that year... Rudy now runs the show with the help of brother John and other family members. Rudy was always and is a quality low-key guy and has carried on his family's traditions with pride and acumen at Harry's. His brother John is likewise a very friendly and helpful guy. The atmosphere carries one back to the 50's/60's with its décor and Norman Rockwell replica prints. It boasts an elongated food counter where diners can overlook the chefs having at it in preparing each order with loving care. I remember bringing my kids there in the late 90's and early 2000's from our home in Tucson and seeing Rudy calling the shots and making magic in cooking the food orders himself... strawberries n whipped cream covered waffles for my daughter and pancakes or French fries for my son...and both with milkshakes! Harry's has an eclectic crowd with people from La Jolla, San Diego, all over the USA and around the World. We would normally see people we knew from Arizona during June and December, as they escaped Tucson for San Diego, La Jolla and Harry's! Nowadays and on this trip, my son opted for the grilled cheese sandwich with a coke, while I ordered a BLT, as with my living in Oaxaca, Mexico, BLT's are Not a popular dish down there...;-)! As always, the food arrived promptly and with an excellent presentation. Harry's staff is experienced, knowledgeable, attentive and quite helpful. The variety on the menu is quite expansive, impressive and offers everything for everyone. The food itself is very good with great portions. There are special combos, individual offerings and healthy selections, as well. Sure, with its popularity sometimes there is a wait....Though we are talking about eating at "Harry's Coffee Shop in La Jolla"...not denny's or mc Donald's..(small letters on purpose..!) You would probably be on vacation anyway, so Splurge and make the effort to hit Harry's Coffee Shop in La Jolla! You WILL come back, again and again... Gracias Rudy and Harry's Coffee Shop! ...and Bear Down, Arizona...;-)!

Bustling diner serving up fantastic brunch/lunch

By BillyBobSled |

Popped by Sunday afternoon for a spot of lunch, and sat at the counter where all the action is. Great place to witness the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and wait staff. I went for the chicken salad sandwich on raisin bread with the self-proclaimed famous hash browns, and it was excellent. Succulent chicken, creamy avocado, juicy tomato and American cheese, with the sweetness of the raisins in the bread - lovely. The hash browns were pretty darn good too! Service with a smile, an inexpensive check, and a hectic, entertaining atmosphere - perfect.

Breakfast winner!

By Quest795559 |

OMG, why did it take so long to hit this place up. What a wonderful dining experience. If I lived in SD, I'd likely be here on a weekly basis (at least). Please, don't ever change!

Old school diner

By luisdI3297ZZ |

Not a sight that you'd expect in swanky La Jolla... old school diner, not the greatest bang for the buck, but as an all American diner, large portions and old classic staples for breakfast... can't go wrong...

Great Breakfast

By mcglass |

We had 2 great breakfasts here. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodated a large group easily.

Harry’s for the go-to breakfast

By Arxitexter |

If you have a hankering for french toast, a desire for oatmeal pancakes and want to experience archetypal hash-browns go to Harry’s. Quaint cozy dining room with booth, table, and counter seating indoors and sidewalk cafe seating. Coffee arrives in a pot with a ceramic mug. We visit San Diego infrequently and develop longings for breakfast at Harry’s - and it never fails to deliver.

They’ve been better.

By LChapie |

We have been coming here for years, and usually can get a great breakfast. Not sure what is going on, but this time was not good at all. I ordered the eggs Benedict. The english muffin was barely cooked & the eggs were over done. Couldn’t tell when I got it because there was so much canned “hollandaise” sauce you couldn’t see the eggs. Hopefully this isn't the way it is in the future. We will give it a try one more time but... if it is the same it will be the last time.

Wildly Popular

By 1rialta |

We just had a great breakfast here. Food has been consistently good for many years. On a Monday, we didn’t have to wait. A Sunday would be a different story. Waitstaff were all on deck, and ready to serve. The servings are always immense. We had pancake, hash and eggs. Coffee was good but the price is a little on the high side. Casual atmosphere. Children should be all right. Large booths. This breakfast cafe is an old La Jolla favorite. They sponsor the local La Jolla High School and other various schools sports events. We’ll always be back.

Wonderful American diner!

By Mer57maid |

What a classic diner! With Norman Rockwell prints covering the walls and a menu for breakfast to please any palate, this place is a gem! The service is excellent, the people very friendly, and the food bounteous and delicious. We started with spicy bloody marys and followed with classics like the country-fried steak breakfast, a Greek omelette and even chilaquilles! Off the beaten track and well worth the trip. Great breakfast anytime of day...yum yum!

Good diner food

By Dok |

Good basic breakfast food. Little pricey but we had great service. Had to wait in line but was fairly fast. All of us enjoyed the experience.

Breakfast

Son and i enjoyed some great pancakes. A true gem. Your traditional dinner to enjoy a Sunday breakfast.

Excellent Place for Breakfast

By drdfsdaz |

The menu is wide and filled with many good things for both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast has all the expected items and more. Eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, hash, waffles, pancakes and much more. Opens at 6am and serve lunch up till 3pm. Our group ate here twice sitting outside in the patio area out front. The service is very friendly and we were well taken care of. The place is spotless, the food is great and the prices work out to about $10 or so a person making it very affordable. Great place to get a start on a nice La Jolla day!

Diner Dining at it's Best

By 610travelgal |

Our east coast visitors were wowed by Harry's and my husband and I were too. First, I smiled when I saw how they proudly displayed their 2015 award from Trip Advisor next to the register for customers to see. Believe me, that award was deserved. We happened to mention to our server that it was our first visit and we received a deliciously sweet treat. It disappeared quickly. The servers were friendly, efficient, and knew the menu and all its options. The homemade vegetable soup had a broth reminiscent of my grandmother's. Even a half sandwich came with a generous bowl. My medium cheesehamburger was cooked to perfection as was the bacon that accompanied it. Lettuce and tomato were super fresh. The potato salad was made from red new potatoes which is the way I make it. My husband said his reuben was excellent. My friend ordered a beautiful Florentine omelet. She said it was the best ever. Drinks were kept filled. The owner even visited our table and he greeted many of the customers by name. I noticed there were Mexican dishes on the menu too. The only problem? What to order from their extensive menu. Prices were reasonable and portions generous. We'll be back.

Never Fails

Have gone to Harry's for breakfast almost every time I visit La Jolla. Aways super. The omelette I had was done just right. I asked for just spinach and cheese. Perfect! Excellent service for a busy Sunday am.

Great Breakfast Place

By JJLMc |

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at Harry's. It is a very comfortable place for us: not chic, not modern, a bit of a throwback to what a coffee shop should be. They are also dog-friendly so major positive for that. I had the chilaquiles and they were filling and very good. My wife stuck with the more traditional breakfast and had eggs and sausage and was pleased with her meal as well. The staff was friendly and the service was good. It was nice having an outdoor table and watching the world go by. Definitely recommend it.

Classic great place for breakfast

By Peter O |

Third time this year and it is just perfect every time. The vintage is fantastic as well as the service. And the breakfast options are great, don’t miss the hasbrowns.

Amazing Breakfast!

By Kyla B |

We visited Harry's on our family vacation to San Diego. We went for breakfast on a Sunday and the wait time was under 10 minutes. The breakfast was amazing. The best french toast I have ever had! Such a cute small time diner feel with a huge variety of breakfast choices including healthy choices. The customer service was top notch! I would highly recommend this place for breakfast!

Eggs Benedict = on point!

By Akicitato |

Visiting from Bismarck, ND. Made a special trip here for breakfast—sat outside, and in my opinion, ate one of the top three Eggs Benedict IN MY LIFE (well so far)! 💯💯

Nothing special

By mw595 |

Basic diner breakfast. Low end decor and atmosphere. Food was nothing special. Seems to me that there are so many better options in town. Surprisingly enough the place was packed and had a wait to get in. Maybe I’m missing something here.

Breakfast mid week

By Ozzie2220 |

The weekend lines were incredible so we decided to give it a try during the week. Walked in mid morning with no wait and a choice of table. I had silver dollar pancakes which were as good as they generally are (nothing fancy but good comfort food). My husband had the corned beef hash. It was a plate of food for two people. He loved it. Not fancy but freshly made and tons of it. Wait staff were fantastic. Made you feel like a local. All in all, everything a local diner should be 😁

Don't Miss This

By mayorbob |

Retro dining setting with tremendous selection of breakfast and lunch menu items. Food was great. Generous servings and attentive staff.

Best breakfast in La Jolla

By K8RdeC |

We went 4 days in a row to try all the waffles in the menu!!! Amazing!! Omelettes are superb, yummy pancakes and the service is excellent!!!! Cant wait to be there again!!!!

Good food, crowded joint!

By SR_SJ_CA |

Wonderful breakfast choices. Service was friendly but it took a while for the food to arrive, likely due to the holiday crowd.

A very tasty breakfast!

By Todd K |

We had a very tasty breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak over a thin waffle with sausage gravy and she had the chilaquilis, which had a really tasty green sauce.

She was completely courteous and thoughtful, speaking Spanish to our two Spanish-Speaking Family Members.

By Bryan and G |

We took our out of town family members to Harry's Coffee Shop for BREAKFAST, and it was wonderful. When we were approached for seating, I asked for their largest table for four persons. We were given the large table upfront. It was very nice of them to do that for us!!! We were also greeted by one of the owners, himself; a very friendly gentleman. We swapped stories about time spent in Utah. We sat down and relaxed in the air conditioning, and reviewed the menu. First, we ordered drinks. l ordered a Diet Coke and a Mimosa, and my partner ordered a Specialty Coffee. As for my Sister in Law, she ordered a Specialty Coffee and a Mimosa, and my Niece ordered a Juice and Chocolate Milk. After a few minutes, someone came by to take our order for food. I ordered the SUPERFECTA WITH PANCAKES, and my partner ordered the CALIFORNIA CARNE ASADA BURRITO. As for my Sister in Law, she ordered the SUPERFECTA, and my Niece ordered the STRAWBERRY/BANANA OREO COOKIE FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST. We were there for a little while, PROBABLY OVER ONE HOUR. It was an awesome experience, thanks to our female server, ANDY. She was completely courteous and thoughtful, speaking Spanish to our two Spanish-Speaking Family Members.

Old school without trying too hard

By Pete B |

Loved this place. Old school without trying too hard. Just classic. Why change what's working? Super courteous service, and quick to refill the coffee. Coffee was great, not too harsh. Classic menu including creamed chipped beef. Light on the Vegan/Vegetarian options, though. Big tufted booths or sit at the counter. I'll be back!

Classic diner breakfast

By teeniek |

Always love going to old school diners and Harry's did not disappoint for breakfast. Portions are generous and big enough to share. Great pancakes, dog friendly outdoor patio, excellent service. Would definitely come back.

"Enjoyed our breakfast here twice on a 4 day trip"

By Nancy S |

We were staying in La Jolla for 4 days and visited Harry's for a delicious breakfast. All 3 adults in our party thoroughly enjoyed their selections. The coffee shop is clean and old school. Our servers were friendly and experienced. Our food was hot and plating was pleasing. We enjoyed our breakfast so much that we returned 3 days later and had another great breakfast. The big parking lot in the back is a plus, parking can be difficult in La Jolla.

Great Place!

By Linda5355 |

Stopped here on a whim for iced coffee. We didn’t realize what an iconic place this was! Servers were fabulous. People were eating breakfast in the afternoon. It looked scrumptious. Iced coffee was delicious and quite a bargain.

Great Coffee Shop!

By Jennifer H |

Had breakfast at Harry’s on a Monday, it was very good. My eggs were cooked as specified, the belgian waffle was very yummy, and service was fast and very friendly! We will be back.

Skip this trip, get the same thing at Denny's

By Cheese_Taco |

We have heard nothing but great things about this place since we've been in La Jolla. We walked there since parking can be a nightmare and luckily it wasn't busy. That didn't stop them from taking over 20 minutes to take our order once we were seated. They are known for their hashbrowns (so I was told) so of course I ordered those with my meal. They didn't even taste like they had a hint of seasoning. They were so bland I had to load them up with salt, peper, and ketchup to even get a flavor. They used sliced cheese on my omlete instead of shredded and the spinich was so soggy with absolutely no flavor. Overall mediocre service and bland meal. Do not wait in line for this place, you will be disappointed.

Brunch at Harry's

By Les D |

Walked into Harry's and was greeting right away. We sat down soon after. Menu was full of choices. Waitress was very friendly. We ordered two meals, classic patty melt, and a scrambled eggs and corned beef hash with hash brown breakfast plate. The food was served hot and fresh. The food was well seasoned, and tasted like home made. When we are in town again, this will be a place we come back too.

One of those iconic breakfast diners you need to try in La Jolla.

By Waterloonie |

Service is friendly and reasonably brisk. Large portions of quality food. An iconic place for brunch in La Jolla. Recommended for families.

Amazing Place

By Paivar |

Wow what a cool place. We actually visited several years ago (from Australia) and remembered it being good so we thought we'd pop in again and yep, still good! The food is huge so share if you aren't big breakfast eaters! Love the old school diner vibe too, really cool. Servers were lovely, quick service. Love it.

Excellent Discovery!

By DLMarlin |

My husband and I discovered Harry's one morning while searching for a breakfast restaurant in the La Jolla, Ca. area. We could not have been more pleased! Such a cute little diner with a friendly, efficient staff and amazing food. I have tried the B. W. Benny (an award winner from the Food Network) and also the Oatmeal Pancakes with blueberries and pecans. Both were beyond my expectations in taste and quality. Harry's Coffee Shop is highly recommended.

Good food and service

By Lifeisonetrip |

After visiting the La Jolla area for fifty years, I am more than aware of the prices they can charge in restaurants, but Harry's goes to another level. A smallish local type coffee shop with very good food and even better service, they need to take another look at their prices. Three and a half dollars for regular coffee? Really, they don't even charge that at.....well, you get the idea.

Excellent traditional cafe/diner island in an all-new town

By PiperDoon |

Excellent from start to finish. Superb service and great value. It's diner food done well. Absolutely nothing to criticize. You get what you expect and pay for.

Great Diner Food

By Sue J |

Heard about Harry's and checked it out for breakfast. Great menu selection and wonderful service! I had a waffle type benedict - spinach, bacon and poached eggs on a bacon waffle. It was delicious, especially the bacon waffle. I could have eaten a stack of those waffles alone. Also delicious coffee.

Perfect place for Breakfast

By patrick2042016 |

Recommended by locals to dine here. Typical American diner. Love my Benny Waffle. Hugh delicious onion rings. Sit outside, eat and watch the passers by.

Loved This Place!

By CPerin |

We stopped here for breakfast. Great service and great breakfast! I would stop here again. The food was moderatly priced.

Get a Cinnamon Roll!

By Liz K |

Everything about this restaurant was perfect. Reminded me of the great coffee shops along the East Coast beach towns that I visited as a child. Highly recommend the cinnamon rolls; go early they do sell out!

Nice place!

By Flooj12 |

Popped in for breakfast and it was pretty good. Very old fashioned and functional. Meal good staff friendly, but the place could do with brightening up a bit as it was somewhat dark!

Just like our local diner in NJ

By SopkoLegiecclan |

We went to Harry’s before we headed to the La Jolla Cove & loved it. Great breakfast & coffee. Service was great & we found out that the cook makes his own jam! Order the pancake unless you want the sour bread toast. Everything was delish! We went out of our way the next day to eat there again.

Local haunt :)

By Maureen C |

This is an old school diner, that has a lot of very good options and never fails to deliver exactly what you expect. Quick service, really good food; reasonably priced. We love this Coffee Shop!

The place for breakfast!

By Luvaghn B |

We had not been back to Harry's in a few years and fortunately it is still Harry's. Quick, efficient and friendly service. A most welcoming place to have a coffee and at the counter, or a full breakfast at the table. A wide variety of fresh cooked waffles, pancakes eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries and fruits. A true diner. Very popular, but worth the wait if they are busy. And, yes, there is still a Harry!

Brilliant Breakfast

By Chris H |

This place is fantastic. The food, the team the atmosphere; everything about Harry’s Place is beyond brilliant. We enjoyed two fantastic breakfasts at Harry’s. On both occasions we enjoyed a second to non experience. Many thanks to the whole team for looking after us so well.

Plain Jane

By Craig G |

Harry’s is like any greasy spoon diner you can find anywhere in the country. The outdoor seating is a plus but the food is standard fare. I’ve been there for breakfast only and was unimpressed so I’ve never tried lunch. I imagine deli meats in white bread. Breakfast was so so.

A classic local diner

By Leslie W |

We had breakfast there and the food was solid if not exceptional. But the fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice (which I rarely see) was a plus, as was the friendly service and having your own pot of coffee for the table. A bit pricey but it's La Jolla.

Love this place!!!

By Pat H |

Family restaurant that looks and feels like you're in Brooklyn New York. The food is delicious, reasonably priced and the staff go out if their way to be friendly. Fun experience.

Breakfast with my family

By eveashe |

Place with a great atmosphere and history..run by the same family for about 80 years. Both locals and tourists eating in shop.Delicious and very filling breakfast.Good choice of food.Decor was really lovely.Nice to see that the company supports local schools and sports teams....loads of photos of this outside the reatroom.Perhaps could have had more than one ladies toilet.

Over 60 years and still going strong.

By Danny P |

Fantastic place to get breakfast, great menu, great service and all at a reasonable price. If you want a traditional breakfast place, you can't go wrong and there will be something great on the menu for you. Can I suggest the BW Benny, as a Brit it sounds a little odd but it's awesome.

This coffee house is the real deal

By drjlever |

I had two meals at Harry's in 2 days in La Jolla this week. My friend introduced me to this authentic old coffee shop/diner and we had terrific tuna melt sandwiches on sour dough for lunch. It was so good we returned for breakfast and shared the bagel and lox and capers platter. The staff was friendly and attentive, and we loved sitting in a booth that was the real deal--not a modern imitation. Fair value, very fresh food including a delicious fresh OJ for $2.99. America, as it used to be.

Harry's coffee shop

By Veronica S |

Good food but the service was not great. Friendly staff but it took a long time to get served. Way too long. Good location and across the street from a grocery store...which we needed at the time.

Delicious, classic diner breakfast

By Holanatalie |

Lovely all-American diner breakfast at a reasonable price in La Jolla. Close to the coast - we stopped on our way to see the seals and sea lions!

Breakfast Bonanza

By DB-Raw |

This was our first time eating at Harry's Coffee Shop and it was worth it. We had dogs with us, so we sat outside on the street which was not at all bad. The service was excellent: friendly and attentive. Our food order came out unbelievably fast - like so fast, I thought they had predicted what we were going to eat and made it while we were looking at the menu. Our server was so nice and brought water for the dogs. We had a pleasant conversation with her. Big thumbs up for this place.

Great breakfast

By bmanwahoo |

Came for breakfast on the last day of our California vacation. Great service and awesome food - be sure to try the BW Benny!

Amazing!

By travels |

Family- friendly diner in La Jolla decorated with baseball memorabilia. If you like your coffee no frills, you're gonna love it here. Delicious fresh coffee and even better food. I ordered the "famous B.W. Benny" and it was awesome! Save this for a cheat meal because they put bacon in the waffle! A lot of variety on the menu. A must if you're in San Diego!

Great Breakfast

By Bill T |

One of the best places for breakfast for over 40 years! I started going there since I was a kid and it is always awesome!!

We were fortunate to get our favorite waitress with PINK HAIR.

By Bryan and G |

We came back for the 12th Time to HARRY'S COFFEE SHOP. We came because we were going to go to the La Jolla Concours D'Elegance!!! It was our THIRD TIME to the CAR SHOW!!! After putting our name in, our wait was pretty fast. ABOUT, 10-12 Minutes. We were fortunate to get our favorite waitress with PINK HAIR. She asked us first, FOR OUR DRINK ORDERS. I had a Diet Coke, and my partner had a Coffee. We then ordered. I had the SUPERFECTA, with three Pancakes, two Fried Eggs Over Easy, Two Slices of Bacon, and French Fries. And my partner, he had the DENVER OMELETTE with one Pancake and Hash Browns. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS, but the initial serving of Pancakes were DRY!!! Fortunately, our waitress brought out fresh new ones right away. We had a wonderful time, for our 12th VISIT. We look forward to coming back again soon!!!

Awesome breakfast!!!!

By Joe and Linda L |

We were in town for 3 days and ate breakfast here twice. No need to look for any other restaurant. We were served by Phyllis both times and she was excellent. Very attentive. We ate outside and it was lovely. I had the bacon guac cheese omelette and my husband had a short stack of pancakes. He is not as adventurous as me. Both were excellent and filling. It was a short walk from our hotel, La Valencia.

We stayed in La Jolla for a week after Christmas and Harry's was our regular breakfast place as it was just a short walk away. Great food, great service, would highly recommend if you're looking for a traditional diner experience.

OLD INDEED

By Tim |

Old and worn but in a coffee shop type way. Excellent service, very attentive. Had a patty melt that was just ok. Fries not great. Pre seasoned and not very fresh.

Happy at Harry’s

By Stacy L |

Holy smokes! Huge pancakes and everything was so delicious and just perfect! We enjoyed it all and would totally return here when we come back to visit!

Yikes!

By Richard V |

Our experience was a negative at best. We had to ask a fellow who bussed tables and etc to find out where our food order was. Our server came over and presented with a story that seemed unbelievable why we did not get our order. Unbelievable because other patrons were getting their orders. She offered an apology and said our food was on the way. One order came to the table badly prepared followed in 4-5 minutes later by the second order. The server then said our coffee would be free! The server followed up and we noted that the second order was not complete, plus they forgot to bring the water we asked for in the beginning . Poor service, followed by one issue after another created a poor experience for us. They deducted one meal that was incorrectly service . The first meal was not good all and mostly of it stayed on the plate. From our experience, find another place to eat breakfast. I do not enjoy writing indifferent reviews, but if my review was not good, it is on someone else.

Best Waffles Ever!

By HSR57 |

Went to Harry's as part of my 60th birthday Pacific Coast vacation, Heard about the place on Food Network. Love waffles and can't beat the name "Harry". So we arrived and were greeted by very friendly staff that allowed me to take photos of the places. Ordered the waffle and it did not disappoint. Well woth the visit. Large, diner style menu.

Classic American breakfast.

By Prasanna W |

Has been around for years and the menu keeps it American style. Good food and lots of coffee. The pancakes and omelettes are absolutely authentic.

True Diner

By ak2398 |

This place has a true diner style feel. Nothing special, simple, older style booth seating. Literally from the 1960’s. Our service was great, food prepared quickly. Quite a few unique items on the menu. We enjoyed both the bacon pancakes and cheese blintz. Coffee was fantastic. Very reasonably priced. It’s a locals kind of place and feel. There is outdoor seating. Located a few blocks off the coastline.

Worth the visit

By 2adroit |

Visited Harry's while on vacation with my family, and the consensus opinion was "it's okay ". Nothing particularly special about anything. We had the Belgium waffle, French toast, and cinnamon roll breakfast. The prices were good for La Jolla standards, generally under $8. Good family owned restaurant, worth visiting but don't expect too much...it's just typical diner fare.

friendly service, large portions, good quality

By abmilw |

good friendly service, large portions, big menu, nice quality, restaurant was packed and food came out in normal time. very casual spot. worth a drive.

Oh boy!!

By fullmoon33 |

Great choices. Great service. Can't wait to go back. I'm about 30 minutes away. Lucky me. My son and I had the waffle with bacon, ham, eggs Benedict on top. Score!!!

Great breakfast

By Matthew G |

Based upon the reviews on trip-advisor we thought to try Harry’s Coffee Shop. It’s more a diner than coffee shop, not much to grab you from the outside but it was busy, friends and vibrant once inside. We had a variety of breakfasts including pancakes (the best we’ve ever had the kids said), great hash browns, lovely sourbread toast and really good cappuccinos. Verdict was for the family was this was our go to breakfast haunt for the rest of the holiday. Rightful praise plus great service too. Highly recommended and a credit to the management and staff.

La Jolla's Local Diner

By SDAR |

Every town has a local diner. Harry’s is La Jolla’s local diner. While the menu is largely breakfast, lunch is also featured. The food is always consistently good. This has been our go to breakfast restaurant for decades. Note: if you go on a weekend morning, there will be a line.

Amazing

By Rakan Dakhakhni |

A great and hospitality coffee shop with a great brunch. I love the options it was amazing and prices are perfect I enjoyed every single bite. Omelet with beans is fabulous.

Great NY Style coffee shop interior, attitude. Good Breakfast

By markinRB |

This had great pancakes, and the waitress was in character for a New York coffee shop. It is in the commercial area, so no great views, but the pancakes and coffee were delicious. If we had been in La Jolla longer, we would have been back. Tip: Parking downtown isn't that easy, but this restaurant has a parking lot in the rear.

I believe that person was actually the owner, WHO IS HANDS ON!!!

By Bryan and G |

We had a delicious meal at our favorite breakfast spot, Harry's Coffee Shop. As always, the food and service is always top notch. We each ordered omelettes, hash browns and pancakes. In addition, I also ordered a mimosa, but my partner ordered a horchata. Although my partner finished his breakfast, I took home leftovers. After we were given a box, I asked someone for a bag, and was kindly given one. I believe that person was actually the owner, WHO IS HANDS ON!!!

Loved it

By cindy l |

Pretty low key for La Jolla, love the old school vibe. Friendly waitstaff, food was plentiful and yummy. Service was pretty quick, but I could see how there would be a wait on weekends. Bathroom had a funky smell, even for a bathroom.

One of the best breakfast places in the USA

By cfpops |

Harry's is a real southern CA gem! Great food selection and high quality food for reasonable prices. Good indoor and outdoor seating with excellent servers.

Just ok.

By V3173TTheatherc |

We ordered the basics. I got biscuits n gravy in which gravy was indeed out of a can. Also got hash browns and they were good but over crunchy. They were $7.98. Hubby got Chicken fried steak, eggs, hash browns n toast $13.99. Smallest ever chicken fried steak EVER, hash browns were so crunchy. Not good. Got 2 coffees for $6.28, seriously????. Business since 1960 but would never ever go back. Waitress talks personal and no quality.. We are easy going and try to look at the Best in each business but the bathroom vent speaks it all Gross....

Local spot!

By Danielle |

We wanted to get breakfast locally-this place was really good and had excellent coffee! We would def return!

Average Diner Fare

By Adam P |

Average diner fare. Went out of our way to eat here because of the high ratings but did not find any major differences than a regular diner. Ingredient quality was average. Staff were very nice.

GREAT breakfast

By Rotem S |

Came here after a local recommended this place and was not disappointed. Though the food is not very creative it is very tasty, defiantly better than the average diner. Would recommend and come back!

Our family favorites include: Pecan-banana waffle Raisin French toast Eggs Benedict (Hollandaise on the side) Potato pancakes Chick n Fried Steak (delish artery clogger!) BLT turkey reuben This is a kid-friendly restaurant. When my twins were in elementary school we even held birthday parties here and created menus so the kids could check off what they’d like for lunch.... Harry’s makes everyone feel special and the food is always good. Welcome and have a seat... the coffee will be right on over!!

locals go, old time feel

By PeterCacioppo |

Had some visitors that wanted to go to an old time breakfast place. So we walked over to Harry's. Still run bye a descendent of Harry, also named Harry! Had a nice breakfast and great service. BTW, they have a huge parking lot behind them.

Great local joint

By SVCris |

Ordered corned beef hash and eggs. Was delicious! Eggs cooked perfectly, hash had a nice bark on it from the grill, hash browns great, delicious sourdough bread toast. Service fast and friendly. Clearly local people patrons. Highly recommend.

Old time Dinner

By Rcampbell1216@gmail.com |

If you want a great hole in the wall place to eat this is the place. Been here a long time foods is ok but the ambiance is fun. This is a little bit of history in La Jolla. Good breakfast plenty of food. Place to have fun

We love Harry's Coffee Shop, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, from the staff to the owners.

By Bryan and G |

We enjoyed an early morning breakfast before attending the La Jolla Concours d'Elegance, for the SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!!! We love Harry's Coffee Shop, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, from the staff to the owners. We are welcomed the minute we walk in the door. After putting our name on the list, we were immediately seated at a very comfortable booth. I started with a Diet Coke, and my partner started with a coffee. We then ordered. I had two eggs and cottage cheese, with apple juice. HEART HEALTHY!!! As for my partner, he had the Denver Omelette and Pancakes. We had a leisurely breakfast, chatting about our upcoming day and taking pictures. It was not too busy on this particular morning, and that was surprising to us. It was therefore somewhat quiet in the restaurant. It was a GREAT MEAL!!!

Great breakfast

By john m |

I had chilliquillas. Tomatillo save excellent. Serving size generous. Companion had breakfast burrito. Also excellent. Huge. Had orange juice mimosas. Tasty. Could have been larger. Service excellent. Server engaging.

Great food and service

By Mario B |

The food is great. You have to try their Waffle's and cinnamon rolls. The service was perfect. They always check on us, if we need anything.

Dog friendly outside & excellent breakfast

By Willie211 |

We tried to find a parking spot on Prospect - impossible. We drove till we found an open parking lot away from Prospect. We found Harry's free lot, went inside, and were guided to the outside area with our dog. Eggs Benedict, with smoked salmon was a delight. Egg sandwich was also very tasty. The coffee was very good. Phyllis, our wait person, was so friendly that she added the extra welcome. She is from Kenya, a graduate in economics, and wanting to find her place in a small American company. If we lived in the La Jolla area, we would return often.

Best breakfast in La Jolla!

By 2beans2000 |

Eggs Benedict for me and my husband, perfect splurge for a chilly morning! Other favorites include banana pecan waffle, potato pancakes, poached eggs with raisin toast, bacon waffle, and they make great waffles. Parking on street or .... there is a parking lot in back, off of Herschel. Now you know the secret that the locals know!!

Excellent service, mediocre food

By prkittysd |

Breakfast burritos were huge but not very tasty at all. Drip coffee is good. They were very accommodating for kids. The service was absolutely top notch. We were bummed the food wasn’t just as good.

We’re Goin to Harry’s!

By jphillips56 |

On a recent trip to La Jolla my wife was searching for something on her phone early one morning. When I asked her what she was looking for she said a different place to have breakfast, since we had already eaten at Harry’s earlier in the week. I said, forget that, we’re goin to Harry’s. She agreed. What more can you say about a place that’s been there for 60 years. Please don’t change a thing. Here’s to another 60!

Nothing special

By BIG H |

I’m very serious about my breakfast and know that it’s one of those meals that just about anyone can make to a point without royally screwing it up. We went in for breakfast and there was about three tables and the place was pretty empty but they still managed to screw up our order and the service was terrible we ended up having to repeatedly flag down someone to help us even though it was dead. Also the bathroom is not working according to a fellow patron it’s been out of order for quite a while. The food was average at best but I get it if a place has been around long enough it becomes tradition we have a place like that here in town (VIENNA INN) another s%#t hole which doesn’t deserve its positive reputation at all. If you want a great place to enjoy a great meal and great people then hit SNOOZE (no pun intended) in San Diego it will not disappoint.

Great coffee!!

By Destiny W |

My mom and I recently stopped in just for a cup of coffee and it was such a pleasant surprise!! A bottomless pot of coffee for around $3 each. And the coffee was to die for!!!! Good service and an authentic diner feel. We were just sorry we had such a big breakfast because the food coming off the grill looked and smelled amazing! We will definitely be back next time we are in the area!

Nice Coffee Shop

By lovetotravel969 |

We came based on recommendations. It is a nice place. The portions are huge and the food was good.We ate the pancake combo and it was excellent. We will definitely come here again.

Classic diner

By SoCalSydney1362 |

Have enjoyed breakfast twice and both were excellent. Eggs Benedict and the egg combo which comes with 2 eggs four pancakes and sausage. I enjoyed the Benedict a little better. The bread and the cinnamon rolls aren’t a bad choice either. Will be back.

Fantastic find

By tsgc2008 |

We spent the morning at La Jolla Cove and later on we're trying to find a place that still serves breakfast as it was getting close to lunchtime and we stumbled upon Harry's and so glad that we did. The waffles with crumbled bacon mixed in with an eggs Benedict topping were just outstanding. I exhibited extreme gluttony but it was well worth it. Definitely looking forward to returning for another breakfast.

Brunch

By David N |

Would recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Good service, cute low key restaurant with good food.

Fantastic “New York style” diner breakfast

By Jess L |

Fantastic breakfast spot! Similar to a New York diner. Friendly and efficient staff and service. Food was great and the portion sizes were perfect for hungry adults. We came back three mornings in a row and brought friends in town for a wedding. Every meal was very good and we will definitely be back whenever we are in town!

Outdoor patio breakfast in La Jolla

By babscoffee |

Great place to start your day. Very comfortable patio setting for a hearty breakfast. Creative menu featuring bacon in the waffles and pancakes!

Stumbled on it due a massive queue at the cottage

By Leafpeeper supteme |

seated almost immediately, charming lady who served us " Jolene " it's quite full of old American memorabilia and a 50's turquoise and white car parked outside, Back to the food , it came up in good time and ended up more than I could manage. Classic bacon eggs toast etc. If I return I would be looking for it any morning.

We had a great server named Kathy, who was very nice, and on the ball.

By Bryan and G |

We went on a whim to HARRY's COFFEE SHOP today, just because my partner was in the mood for some pancakes. We got a disabled parking spot in their parking lot in the back of the restaurant, and were seated right away. I always wanted to try their EGGS FLORENTINE, and it didn't disappoint!!! I started with Diet Coke, but later switched to a very strong MIMOSA!!! I only had a few small sips, and I was done. My partner had something new, the SUPERFECTA. TWO eggs and bacon with hash browns. I have had it about three or four times before, loved it. He loved it too. AGAIN, I had the EGGS FLORENTINE, two poached eggs on raisin bread with spinach topped with a lovely hollandaise sauce. W/ HASH BROWNS!!! I had so much food that I had to take some home for breakfast tomorrow. We had a great server named Kathy, who was very nice, and on the ball. She brought out my partner's coffee and my Diet Coke, then took our order. She brought out our order fast, hot, and delicious.

Great breakfast

By Joe L |

The place for an outstanding breakfast in la Jolla. Everything is made fresh and to order. It is busy and it may take some extra minutes but it is worth it. The omelettes were very good size and potatoes and a pancake included makes sure you leave full and satisfied.

Highly recommend

By lolapig |

Great food, service and atmosphere. Loved it! Highly recommend. As a family we tried the Eggs Benedict, American breakfast and the pancakes. All delicious and plentiful.

Bacon IN the waffle!

By JoyJoy2theworld |

This little gem was a perfect choice for breakfast. Definitely an old time diner vibe and great service. I had the BW Benny and I'm pretty sure they read my mind to create this; waffles with bacon in them AND eggs benedict. The coffee was great and the price was reasonable.

Delicious!

By Footprints295610 |

Yummy food, nice patio, reasonably priced. Parking was easy to access behind the restaurant. Nice town to walk through.

Breakfast

By xavierfs |

The best Breakfast California burrito with carne asada. The tortilla shell was perfect, the meat tender and juicy. Absolutely addicting.....Will be back....

Good food, dog friendly

By esteuer |

First visit, good food. Waitresses were delighted to see our dog and even gave her 2 strips of bacon! We sat on the front patio. My omelette was good, bacon pancakes eggs and sourdough bread were tasty. Free parking in the rear of restaurant with a rear entrance.

Not bad...nothing special

By Keith E |

Service was efficient and friendly. Food was just okay. No one in my party had a problem with our breakfast, but none of us thought it was anything special.

The ultimate breakfast!

By Lisa B |

Harry’s is a La Jolla institution and for good reason. The food is great, the service is friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is quintessentially that of a “down home local coffee shop,” complete with red leather booths. There is some outdoor seating in front and ample parking in back. The menu is extensive and they not only tolerate substitutions, they welcome them. Omelets are a highlight, with lots of veggies, cheeses, and toast selections possible. Everything is fresh and delicious! If you go on a weekend, be prepared to wait, since Harry’s is very popular with locals. It’s not fancy, but Harry’s is an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch any day of the week.

A LITTLE CORNER BOOTH!!!

By Bryan and G |

I was taken to HARRY'S COFFEE SHOP for my 61st BIRTHDAY, and it was a real treat!!! Driving in to the restaurant was so beautiful, SO SCENIC!!! We love the NEW LA JOLLA SIGN!!! It was a complete surprise. I went with my PARTNER, and sister in law. I have my sister in law to thank for the wonderful day. When I walked up to put our name in, someone got there just before us. Fortunately, we got there after them. I say that because we then got a much better table in the back!!! A LITTLE CORNER BOOTH!!! I think the last time we were there we sat at the very front booth. FOR BREAKFAST, I had the DENVER OMELETTE, with HASH BROWNS and a PANCAKE!!! MY PARTNER HAD THE VERY SAME THING. As for my sister in law, she had the Bacon and Cheddar Cheese Omelette!!! We then went to see the SEALS at the CHILDREN'S POOL!!!

Tasty bacon - large breakfast portions

By Roadtripluvr |

Large portions. Totally could have shared the breakfast I ordered. Delicious breakfast. Lots of choices. Loved the outdoor seating area.

Great Plaxe

By Heather V |

This was our second time to Harry's and had another great experience! The only compliant was the wait for our food, but it is worth the wait! We had the eggs Benedict and breakfast burritos and pancakes! We recommend all of them!

Wonderful casual spot with great service

By lesleyk204 |

We stopped for breakfast on our way to graduation, The staff was accommodating to all our requests, The kitchen is a little slow as our waitperson said it is a very small space. But the food was delicious. We will go back next time we are in San Diego.

Neighborhood coffee shop

By rpisces |

This is an older coffee shop with tons of history. Pictures on the walls are fun to look at, large menu with a variety to chose from. Friendly staff, centrally located with parking in the back

Excellent coffeeS

By Doug B |

The iced coffee with horchata is really delicious--not too sweet. It so inspired us that we went home and made some horchata and, good as that was, it fell short of Harry's.

A classic for breakifast and lunch

By Alan P |

We were looking for a straightforward place to have a salad while staying in La Jolla and we were very pleased with what we found in this classic of a lunch counter. Traditional booths, friendly and efficient service, and huge salads fit the bill and we were able to see the other delicious-looking plates being served to other customers. This has to be a go-to place for anyone needing a great breakfast or lunch in La Jolla.

Nothing special...........but a good meal

By Nanci P |

I love waffles and heard they were very good, was a bit disappointed. I think the food was average as is the restaurant. Just ok.

Great chicken salad

By Zoolander |

Hasn't changed in years, established in 1960. Great service, great food. I got the chicken salad sandwich, it was delicious. My dad got the eggs Benny, also wonderful.

Breakfast AND Lunch

By BoyMom22 |

Thanks to the staff at Harry’s for a great breakfast and a lunch to go! We knew that we were going snorkeling in La Jolla and wanted to bring something in the cooler for lunch. With our breakfast we ordered 2 chicken sandwiches with avocado which were delicious “on the go”. And the nice waitress gave us a famous cinnamon roll to try since we were visiting. Excellent experience!

Terrific service for delish breakfast with my husband!

By 2beans2000 |

We have been going to Harry’s for nearly 25 years and there is a reason: -Great service -Fast service -Friendly service -Good food -Fun food choices -Dependably delicious food -Great family diner environment -A classic tradition in La Jolla -A family-owned/family-run business Today I tried something new for me, a Mediterranean omelette and the favor combo was delightful, especially the balance of the feta with the sundries tomato. My husband enjoyed the classic eggs Benedict. Always a winner! They have a wide array of Benedicts and waffle selections as well as pancakes galore. My kids and I also love their potato pancakes... a hidden gem! Locals know the trick of parking in the lot out back, entering off if Herschel..... so now you can park like a local!! Enjoy!!

Good American Food

By Pam N |

It is a blast from the past with simple but good food. If you just want to get a really good breakfast then go to Harry's Coffee Shop and you will get just that. They will serve you with a smile and you food will come out hot. You probably won't be able to finish all your food, but that is ok.

Really good hash browns

By Ses943 |

The inside looks very much like an old diner with brown carpet and leather booths. It was pretty busy. My husband got their omelette, and I got the hash browns and bacon a la carte. It was all good. The potatoes were my favorite. I wish they would have had an American breakfast plate on their menu. Even though the potatoes were perfect, Harry's was our least favorite breakfast.

I used to work there

By mpgnova |

...meh. below average breakfast food. Doesn't deserve any of the really positive reviews that is gets (only because its been around so long). Low quality ingredients and preparation.

Harry's is La Jolla breakfast -- worth the wait

By HPGB |

Harry's Coffee Shop is a must-visit. We have stayed in the La Jolla area on five separate vacations and we never miss a visit here. We remember how much we enjoyed the breakfast burrito, but we also recall not being able to finish it. My wife and I split the breakfast burrito this time. Still the best and half each was just right-sized for we light-eating Canadians. The prices here are fair diner prices; the food is extraordinary. The staff are friendly and busy. Two small draw-backs. This place is so popular, there is usually a 30 to 45 minute wait. It is worth it. The other thing is the coffee. Definitely weak -- not Starbucks.

Delicious breakfast

By Dansker73 |

We enjoyed the breakfast at Harry's coffee shop very much. The raisin French toasts with banana slices, fresh berries and pecans were amazing! We also liked the atmosphere at this typical American Diner. As European, we are not used to the typ of restaurant but we love it. We felt like being in a movie of the 60's. It seems like there hasn't changed much since the 60's but that's what makes the difference. We highly recommend this place! But you have to be ready to wait for a table and for the food as well.

A Family Must in La Jolla!

By ebbenny |

Our family loves this restaurant! We always eat at the bar. This is where the magic happens. The waitresses are over the top. Watching them and the chefs bring out food brings me back. All the food is excellent. Love Harry's!!!

They get it right

By Ellen H |

Good food, good service, good prices and a friendly staff. Can't beat it for La Jolla old but true. Got to love Harry's 😍

Fantastic !

By AAalba |

Fantastic! Awesome service, very patient lady who dealt with my two very fussy children. Very child friendly and gave my children braclets and toy sea animals with the bill. Excellent food, large portion size, very good coffee, fabulous laid back friendly vibe. You can park on the street in the free parking spaces.

La Jolla vacation

By PeacefulDrifter |

What a great breakfast. I had coffee and read while I waited for my daughter and friend to arrive. I drank half the pot at my table. Good coffee! By the time they arrived I was so hungry we all ordered a signature dish (in the red boxes on menu). We could have split two as there was so much food!! I love the oatmeal bacon pancakes, a meal themselves. My daughter raved over the hash browns, perfect! Her friend said the scrambled eggs, sausage pattie, hash browns and sourdough toast was her perfect breakfast.

Awesome Breakfast

By Dan C |

Nice little café with outdoor seating. Staff was very nice but the food took a while to arrive-nice time to visit with family. The food was awesome! Great selection and great preparation. The chilaquiles over hash browns was amazing.

OH MY GOODNESS

By chattycin |

I can't say enough about Harry's Coffee Shop. We ate breakfast there 3 mornings in a row. The prices were fair and the food extraordinary. It is a throw back to an old time diner. The staff were amazing and very engaging. My favorite was the yogurt granola fruit bowl.

Charming!

By Danny V |

Awesome breakfast in a charming retro ambience. This place seems to be stuck in the 70s. Everything for decor and service. Very friendly. I definitely recommend.

Just Good Ole American Diner Food.

By Chrisgolfpro |

We went here for breakfast, and what a great find it was. Real old school diner vibe like a throw back to New York. I had just a good old traditional bacon and egg breakfast and it was great. Eggs and bacon perfect, generous portion of hash browns crunchy on the outside creamy on the inside. The toast was great with a very generous spread of butter, unlike most breakfast places. My partner had the pancakes and raved about them. Service was very friendly and helpful. great place to go.

Great Breakfasts and Lunches!!

By Marc S |

They don’t make great Diner’s like Harry’s Coffee Shop. On my trip to La Jolla we had two breakfasts and one lunch. Food always exceeded expectations and was complemented with great service. We sampled: delicious omelets, sandwiches and desserts. The amazing thing about Harry’s is that after more than half a century of providing great food, it still is above the pack providing a winning combination of great tasting food and solid wait service at a reasonable price. Eating at Harry’s made me feel like a La Jolla insider.

Greatest Coffee Shop in San Diego.... short walk to beach

By 2beans2000 |

La Jolla has many good things, beautiful beaches, wonderful village shopping, and the greatest coffee shop in all of San Diego!! Harry’s Coffee Shop.... serving friends, family, La Jollans, and visitors since 1960. On Girard Avenue, across from Vons, you’ll find the nicest people working and eating at Harry’s. You have a choice of inside or outside tables... booths inside are our favorite. Arriving early reduces the chance of a wait, but even if you wait, the line moves fast and the food is worth it! Great coffee choices to start your meal... lattes, mochas, or maybe go for a milkshake! Breakfast is served all day. Our family favorites are the banana-pecan waffle or the bacon waffle. A little known fact is that their potato pancakes are super! Sometimes I just order a poached egg with a side of raisin toast... simplicity is often a good thing as well! Harry’s is named after Harry Rudolph, the founder who moved out to California from Brooklyn and wanted to recreate the feeling and camaraderie of the diners he knew from New York. Well done, Harry! The restaurant is now run by Harry’s children and it’s a treasure in the La Jolla community. Harry’s is a wonderful place to bring your family, friends, or visitors. All are welcome. Parking is available on the street or... for those in the know, there is a nice big lot in the back, accessible from Herschel Street off of Pearl. Enjoy!

Amazing Breakfast would highly recommend!

By michaelpugh |

Came here for breakfast after a recommendation. Got there just in time as there was a huge line just after 9am. We were told to get there before 9am because of this so make sure you do too. I had an Omelette and girlfriend had Eggs Benedict, both good quality and reasonably priced. Only thing here is that the toilets are out the back door which I wouldn't say is very nice but I wont judge my score on that. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. You must go here if you visit La Jolla.

Best Breakfast You Can Find

By John M |

I have been going to Harry's for years when I visit LaJolla. This past week, I went there for breakfast three days in a row. It is truly outstanding. You will enjoy a great, delicious breakfast and be wowed by the staff, who are friendly beyond compare.

Amazing family owned diner

By Swtheart |

I had the Trifecta for breakfast which included 2 eggs cooked perfectly, 2 slices of bacon, hash browns, and 3 of the most delicious pancakes I've ever eaten. Their specially blended coffee was hot and my cup was always full. The food was great, but the atmosphere of this small town diner was a true gem in LA Jolla.

A must stop!

By brooklyntravelers |

Went to Harry's. Great place! There's a reason why it's been around since 1960! The coffee kept coming and the service was great. I had a Greek omlette which was fresh and delicious. The hash browns were amazing. Crunchy on the top and creamy and so good underneath! The original owner's son John spoke with us as we reminiced about Brooklyn, where his dad was originally from. We left buying a tee shirt, hat and mug! Thanks again Harry's for a great meal!

We didn't see the glory of Harry's

By Andrew H |

The Cottage had such a long line that we walked two more blocks to Harry's. We had breakfast. Not cheap. Real maple syrup was $3 for a small amount. My friend said this isn't much, and the waitress brought another little container of it. My friend had to get up and go to another booth to get more coffee creamers because no wait staff was circulating. Coffee is $3.29. That will give you an idea of the prices.

It All Depends on How You Look at It!

By tlyntp |

We came here because a friend who Loves Harry's was visiting and wanted to go. We were camping near by and since it was raining when we woke up...we decided it was the perfect morning to go to Harry's. I had never been before...I know La Jolla can be very busy and today ( a Thursday morning ) was no exception. We got lucky that a spot was opening in front of the restaurant right as we were waiting at the light in front - so we were able to park right outside and walk in -- I know from spending every summer here - that finding street parking like this is a sign someone is watching over you! Anyway - we had to wait only about 5 minutes for a table - it was pretty full. I took my daughter to the bathroom and waited in line longer there than for a table - one bathroom only. It's very cute and clean though - at the back of the restaurant in the walk way to the back parking lot. Harry's is old and has that old NY deli style feel to it - except you're not in New York - you are at the beach. It has the prices of a NY deli and the food is pretty good - large portions to match the price. Everyone at our table loved the food and had a yummmy breakfast. Coffee came to the table in a carafe which is always a plus - it was pretty good too. We had belgian waffles (much better than the regular waffles) though my daughter loved her regular style waffle. I had hamburger patty and eggs with hashbrowns all cooked perfectly as I asked. We were stuffed and happy when we left - our server and the staff all were pretty happy too. IT was a nice time - but for me - I wouldn't make a habit of it every week. Nice to visit once in a while or to take an out of town friend - I don't have anything BAD to say about Harry's - it's just for me - the food was good - not ultra gourmet - and the prices were steep for even the simple stuff. But a piece of SD nostalgia so worth it once in a while or if showing the town off to out of town friends.

Classic 60s Americana Coffee Shop For Breakfast

Was with a friend driving through the area when he recommended Harry's Coffee Shop for breakfast. Said it was the coffee shop of La Jolla. Arriving around 10 AM, we parked in the parking lot behind the restaurant as street parking was full. Back entrance has a nice canvas covered walkway. All along the back hallway walls are pictures taken over the decades of operation. What a history this family owned coffee shop has. We were quickly seated at an outside table to enjoy a cool fall morning. Waiter came by in minutes, our order taken. When my coffee arrived I loved having a small pitcher to refill my cup as needed. Breakfast was served very quickly. My Eggs Benedict with Hash Browns looked tasty. They were. Liked the Hollandaise sauce. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast on a crisp fall morning. Very nice restaurant with a friendly and efficient staff. Next time I'm in the La Jolla area at breakfast time I know where I will be going.

Great service, good food

This a cute place that does a great job with breakfast. It has a diner-type decor and offers great service. I had the Superfecta with French toast, eggs, hash browns, and bacon. Hubby had the B.W. Benny (waffle with bacon inside topped with ham and poached egg with hollandaise sauce). The Superfecta was fine but I was disappointed because my fluffy French toast was not soaked in the batter enough, so it was like having plain bread with syrup. The B.W. Benny was my favorite. Entrees average about $20 each, so when you add tax and tip, it's not cheap. But it's California.

Great food at a decent price in La Jolla

The day we were there it was quite busy however we did not have to wait at all for a table. The food was hot and delicious, large servings and lots of variety. We were able to choose from either breakfast or lunch which was great for our group since it was around 11 when we got there. Coffee was wonderful. Classic Mom and Pop's place that features photos and news articles from the local area on the walls. Very quaint place for breakfast!

They have gluten free bread

The food is good and portions large. Think truck stop dining. It's a local favorite and the staff is friendly. It's very comfortable and restful. A nice pace to slow down while vacationing.

Great Breakfast

Super tasty and reasonable! Got one of the breakfast burritos and it was HUGE! The hashbrowns that came with eggs and bacon are also so tasty and the perfect amount of crispy! Staff is nice, really enjoyed my experience.

Nothing great...won’t go back

Cold brew wasn’t very good at all. Order was wrong - hash browns were excellent but omelette was average. Asked for egg whites - that didn’t happen. Staff was friendly. Definitely would not give this place 5 stars with so many other options.

busy, fun and big breakfasts~

fun place to start your day, there is an open patio to eat on, and the service was great! Busy place, lots of parking in the back, nice big full breakfasts with plenty of good coffee, too!
