Delicious & Good-Looking Food!

By Angelica E |

My cousin and I googled Asian restaurants in San Diego, and Harumama was among the first to show up. The restaurant is relatively new, very clean and modern looking (almost has a hipster vibe). We ordered steamed buns and bao buns (pictures provided). To our pleasant surprise, the pork steamed buns were decorated like cute pigs. The flavors were out of this world. The buns have a nice hint of sweetness, but then it's accompanied by the savoriness of the pork and the acidity from the pickled veggies that garnished the bao buns. Would I come here again? I certainly would. I am looking forward to trying their ramen!

Cartoon Buns a must… everything else so so

By rzile |

You can’t bad review the buns coz they’re hella cute. A dipping sauce could have elevated the buns as they were on the drier side but very flavoursome. Other dishes we tried were good but nothing stood out and again no sauce for the katsu? And on the day we went none of the raw fish dishes we available “_

Excellent Food & Service

My daughter and I had a great experience at Harumama. The decor is very nice, the food was excellent and our waiter, Chance, provided excellent customer service. Thanks!

Steamed Character Bao Buns

By vagabondginger |

These cute little buns just lure you in and when you get them, they are almost too cute to eat. I had 2 chickens and 2 pigs & 2 beers for a nice lunch experience. The ambience here is hip and modern. Very attentive friendly service. I would definitely bring friends here to try these little buns just for the novelty but I also want to check out the ramen. I use the bus so getting to this place is Little Italy was a delightful walk.

So so on the food but solid service

By Reviewer W |

Food was ok- I had spicy peanut noodles with extra broccoli and noodles. It was pretty good but the egg was overly salted and the mince pork that seemed to come with it wasn’t very nice. The krab wontons are not good - there is a gooey mess inside them and it just tastes feels very overly processed. The waitress I had was very nice but for some reason on entry I was given the happy hour menu, which wasn’t applicable when I walked in.

Absolutely amazing!!

By jpottorff |

These are the cutest and most delicious buns ever!! I’ve never eaten anything like them, but they were amazing! I took my kids here to eat 3 times during our week in San Diego, and it was incredible each and every time. This will be our first food stop when we go back!

All about the character buns

By Eddie Travels |

QUICKIE REVIEW Character buns make this place unique.   FOOD This is what I tried:   -Character buns -bao bao buns -fat duck ramen   Fat duck ramen has its own unique taste.    Flavor was not for me but that does not mean it will not be for you.  However, the buns, those things were golden.  Character buns were pretty cool in that they just give a different look than what you are used to. Each character bun has their own unique taste and is stuffed with something different.  Bao bao bun had the traditional look but with a great taste to it.   Definitely worth a try. PARKING No.  Street parking is your friend.   SERVICE Good, the waiter was attentive and responsive. PRICE Roughly $10 an item. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS Parking is hard pressed in the evenings considering the location.   Get here early.

Ramen noodles

By TravelEatXplore |

Give it a 3.5 stars. No online rsvp. You have to be there and put your name on a waiting list. Usually about 45 mins to an hr wait. Best known for their Ramen noodle. I got the fat duck Ramen. The broth is the key to making a good Ramen and fat duck broth was flavourful and not heavy. The noodle cooked perfectly and not soggy. The order of food came out incorrectly. We got the pig pork bao, panda chicken bao and polar bear custard bao. The bao's are cute, but it wasn't anything special. Both the pig (pork bao) and the panda (chicken bao) dough were moist. However, the meat were dry. Also it came after they served the Ramen. The price of the Ramen were reasonable. Service were quick and so were the food. Plenty of street parking. Sunday parking free after 6pm.

Must try: ramen and buns

By Tim T |

Friend recommended this place so we stopped by around 5:30pm which turned out to be during happy hour. Prices were very reasonable. We order 2 sushi rolls, ramen, karagee and Bao bao. Ratings are as followed: Ramen 5/5, karagee 4/5, pork belly bao bao 4/5, sushi rolls 4/5, service 5/5, parking 4/5 I would come back to harumama again

Kale Noodles

By TravelMacks |

Enjoyed a delicious bowl of ramen at Harumama this summer. The option to add kale noodles was a fun twist and everything was delicious. I’m not a big fan of bao buns, but we ordered some because they were cute :) Friendly service, reasonable prices

Great buns and ramen

By Ali Van D |

Love the character buns here, so much fun and delicious! We tried the red bean and custard sweet buns and a couple of the savory appetizer (non-character) buns. They were fluffy and flavorful. The ramen was a perfect sized portion and had Brussels sprouts in it! Good pork broth and additional add-ons if you want to mix it up, very tasty!

Sunday Bun Day 🐷 🐼🐰

By Challenger007 |

Totally fun Sunday Brunch experience. All around cool hipster vibe, chill interior, nice employees, great varied menu (something for everyone), and every dish was visually pleasing and tasty. Although the character buns (what brought us here) seem gimmicky-they are more than just a pretty face. Winnie the custard bun was a sweet success as were all the other tasty little animals. It’s hard put any hate on a kitchen that sculpts dough into adorable little faces with hand painted features. Every dish was met with solid unanimous approval. The Red Dragon roll was super yummy, generously portioned and good value. I loved all the little flavor surprises (capers on sushi, crunchy puffy crusted Karaage, bacon on creamy Udon, Brussels Sprouts and leeks in my ramen). Harumama sure is a thrilling flavor roller coaster ride!! High marks for the pink tressed unicorn server who added more joy to our meal with her excellent professional service and enthusiasm.

Delicious Buns and Ramen!

By T D |

During our San Diego visit, we stopped by Harumama near Little Italy to enjoy their Buns and Ramen. Their Sweet Buns are animal characters and are too cute to be eaten! Food are delicious! There could be a long line for a table during prime time, but food comes out quickly. We enjoyed the buns and ramen!

delicious!

We ordered one Totoro Bun BBQ Pork) and one Chicken Bun (Chicken) to go. I thought they were expensive, but they were delicious!

Harumama was overall a delightful place to eat. The ramen was spectacular, however some of the items (rice bowl) were very lackluster.

Healthy lunch spot

By AfricaAtNewYears |

Harumama Noodles is located across Fir St. from the Porto Vista Hotel and we went for lunch on our first day while waiting to checkin. We ended up going back for each of the following 4 days we were in town. Aside from a couple of items, all selections were great. SPICY SESAME SALMON 10.95 had no recognizable fish (salmon) in it although it was spicy hot and had plenty of white rice and some salmon-colored, spicy, layer of moist stuff (sesame?) on top. The VEGETABLE PAN-FRIED NOODLES (v) 11.95 were filling, had some broccoli pieces with them and alongside them, and seemed fairly heavy for “vegetable” noodles (some vegetables mixed in with wheat noodles?). The HARU (Ramen) 10.95 was a bowl of rice noodles with 3-4 slices of fried tofu, a handful of kale, and definitely, a chicken broth. The 3 veggie pot stickers that came with the HARU were included as the other part of a lunchtime special that cost $2-3 more than the HARU on the website menu. We also had the POWER PROTEIN POKE 11.95 with a side order of a grilled salmon filet $7.00 both of which were excellent. Another order of the the bun, SNOOPY (NEW) 7.95 and the CREAMY TRUFFLE UDON 11.95 were also very delicious. After a quick review of other nearby lunch spots, we decided this was the best & healthiest choice in the neighborhood.

Yummy

By Julia G |

We've tried the sushi, buns, ramen, and poke bowls during two visits this month. So yummy! The service is quick and friendly. The atmosphere is casual. Each time we've been there, the place has been full but does not feel crowded. If you haven't tried this place, go now!

Just my luck

By wren52681 |

I ordered delivery from here because it had a great variety of different Asian foods. I ended up getting vegetable pan-fried noodles, a couple of Bao Bao buns, yakisoba noodles, and a couple of sushi dishes. However, the first forkful of noodles, had a large, long, black hair in it. Because this happens to me more often than I would like to admit, I wasn't surprised, but then at that point those noodles were trash. They smelled and looked delicious, but it wasn't happening. We also asked for utensils because we were at a hotel, and they didn't provide any, so I had to run through the hotel to find some forks. To be fair the sushi was okay, and the bao buns were good.

Freshest sushi ever

By dmmick |

I don’t know how Harumama is not at the top of this list. This is the best tasting, freshest sushi I’ve ever had. And the crab wontons are to die for. The prices are incredibly good for the quality you get. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Staff and Food

By Jrh767 |

We eat here at least once a week. The ramen is out of this world, and so is the Power Poke Protein Bowl (you can substitute cucumber noodles for the rice if you so desire!). The staff is always happy to see us, and that helps keep us coming back often! They have adapted to CoVid well, adding outdoor tables. They also have sushi, but we always seem to get the Me-So-Hot ramen and a Power Poke bowl :-)

Japanese in Little Italy

By mayorpiloto |

It takes a lot to move the move the food taste meter for me, but Harumama is excellent! The gyoza is a must as a starter. Nice selection of beers and if you're into saki, a variety to choose from. We had the chicken teriyaki bowl and spicy tuna bowl as entrees along with an order of the pig buns. All outstanding. Prices are reasonable for area. So, if you want a change while in the Little Italy area, try Harumama. No disappointments here!

Dinner with my wife

Harumama

By Marelis R |

I came upong this place and been wanting to check it out. So we decided to go and it was a good choice. Its a pretty calm environment. I ordered the creamy noodles and loved them. The Buns were good but the Haru kitty was the best for me, nutella!. Everything was pretty tasty, a good place to check out if you want Ramen, Noodles and deff try the character buns.

Interesting fusion

By feedthetraveller |

The gems are the starters. Great flavours and selection. Kids loved all the desserts. Ramen seemed like it was a fusion with traditional base flavours. Tons of parking around. The had separate cutlery for kids which was great too.

The character buns!!

By Ava K |

Stopped in for a lunch to get the character buns and they were so cute! The hello kitty Nutella was delicious and a must eat!

Rainy day for ramen

By Sancia M |

Thought it was a perfect day for ramen given how wet and cold it’s been. Started with Caramelized Eggplant - WOW! Could eat this every day. The chicken ramen was almost a “no way”. As it arrived in front of me I could smell a very pungent scent. It was loaded with bamboo which almost made me gag. Luckily I removed them all and could go on to enjoy the bowl. Service was excellent.

Delicious and fun!

Great food with the added bonus of fun characters for your bao buns. Good sake as well. Very enjoyable.

Absolutely delicious!!

By Lilly F |

Amazing food! The poke bowl, the krab wontons, the noodles and especially the sushi were all absolutely incredible!! My favourite by far was the poke bowl, so delicious!! The little character buns weren't our favorioute and it's a pity that this is costing them some of the tough reviews but the rest is honestly prime! We spent a week in San Diego and went to Harumama 3 nights because it was so good. And the staff were more than kind! I'd definitely recommend a visit!

Adorable + Delicious

By Corah |

I came for the cute bao buns, and they didn’t disappoint! I truly enjoyed the flavors, space and friendly service for an overall great experience. This place has something for everyone, but a true foodie and instagramer paradise. I am already planning my next visit!

They cancelled my online order

By jhieroni |

I am sick and wanted some noodles and black mirror before heading to bed. Harumama sounded great as I’m within walking distance. I placed the order online expecting to pick it up. When I arrived, they told me they cancelled the order because they were busy and short staffed. I didn’t see the email as I was walking to the restaurant after I placed the order. I’m currently at the counter, probably infecting the nice couple next to me waiting on the order I placed 30 minutes ago. I don’t understand why they would cancel the order!

CUTEST BUNS

By Andreas Bayu |

We decided to come to Harumama Little Itally and tried their buns goshhh they are delicious! The sushi could be better! They lot of choices between savory bun or sweet bun! Service is good but we felt rushed and the ambiance is nice! VERDICT: I MAYBE WILL COME BACK :)

Scrumptious sushi!

By Footprints474561 |

Harumama serves amazing food, including my favorite food and my favorite dessert, respectively shrimp tempura crunch roll and churros. It has a very tranquil vibe and good seating!

No Duck, No Go!

By Tony C |

I love the Fat Duck Ramen and they removed it from the menu. That's too bad. I won't be going back there until they bring the duck ramen back

Amazing Ramen

By Dane |

Been here a few times. Ordered the flying pig ramen both times. It’s really good 5/5. Has a nice open view of the street in little Italy as well. All the girls seem to love the animal character buns...I haven’t tried them but they look cool.

Great Ramen

By sheiksan |

Was on business trip beset with unusual cold and rainy weather. Had a craving for noodle soup and this restaurant fit the bill. Ordered their “me so hot” spicy ramen - was chock full of goodies and tasty miso broth. Noodles were done perfectly. They have Happy hour with reduced price food and drinks till 6pm. I tried the karage chicken; it was more like katsu than karage. Topped off with $3 Sapporo happy hour draft.

Panda steam buns

By Lyanna L |

So this place is very fun - I mean they have adorable shaped steam buns. The decor is also beautiful and everything is certainly very instagramable. The quality of the food here is mediocre. If you want delicious steam buns and noodles, go somewhere else. This is all about the ambiance & design of the food. We ordered a variety of food here. The panda steam buns were sweet potato and overly sweet but adorable nonetheless.

You can get Bowls and Sushi here too!

By SistersontheMove |

We got a chicken teriyaki bowl, a salmon teriyaki bowl, and a noodle Haru. They were all delicious. My daughter also got a seaweed salad. A good portion which was very tasty and nutritious. We didn't try the buns. We liked everything we got. The service and ambience is good.

Pleasant experience

By andrealhch |

Nice place for a quiet dinner. Good service, environment and decent Japanese food and sake.. Buns were very cutely presented to us. A little overpriced overall and limited selection of dishes on menu but still worth a visit. Although if you’re wanting top notch specialized ramen noodles in SD, this isn’t the place for it.

Super Good Ramen!

By Aims |

Visited yesterday because we fancied Japanese food and we’re gonna stop at underbelly. We weren’t sure how good it was gonna be because the restaurant seemed quiet at the time. Anyway we we shown to our seats and we ordered drinks. They had a huge selection of beers (no ciders) and Japanese drinks like sake and juju (between 12-16%). We ordered appetisers such as sushi and edamame and salad. All of us had ramen and I have to say it’s one of the best ramens I’ve ever had was so tasty and such a huge portion one of us had to take it home. Now we’re obsessed and we just want to come back.

Delicious Ramen!

By TheresaZ_11 |

I took my teens to enjoy some hot delicious Ramen on a cold evening. The filled character buns were at hit! The kids had tried the Hello Kitty buns that are filled with Nutella, Chicken buns with tasty shredded chicken and veggies and the sweet Panda buns. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The restaurant was full but the wait is worth it. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy, casual and family friendly. Adult beverages are available. Finding parking can be tricky, limited free off street parking nearby and paid parking garages also nearby. Price range is average $$.

Amazing food

Great rolls, sushis were fantastic! Not to mention, they have great ocean view too. I highly recommend the flying pig ramen! While you are there, look out for the unique sharing plate designs.
