Best sandwich of my life

By Ruben |

The meat fresh cut there, the sauce, perfect bread for the combination of flavors, the best sandwich ever.

Travelling can take a toll on you and one of the first things you miss is a real home cooked meal. During a recent trip to Philadelphia I was pleased to stumble into Hatville Deli in the Reading Market. What a delightful place! The Owners (Ann and her husband) are very hands on, hard working people. The food was FABULOUS and the service was OUTSTANDING. A big shout out to Courtney, my waitress on several occasions. Even with a food allergy, they made sure that I was taken care of. I highly recommend this stop when you are in Philadelphia.

Great sandwiches. Very quick service. The sandwiches are very big. Everyone in our group took half of it home.

Great place for traditional deli sandwiches

By Nick C |

Was in a hurry but they were very quick and efficient preparing my very tasty roast beef special. The whole wheat wrap was also tasty.

Best Deli food in Reading Terminal and surrounding area

By Mick3327 |

My friends and I go every week for the delicious sandwiches, sides and friendly service. Everything on the menu is excellent. You can't make a bad choice. Maybe that is why i have been eating here for over 20 years.

Disappointed in Corned Beef Sandwich

By RFJ |

My corned beef special was incredibly disappointing. The food was fresh but the texture was all wrong. Instead of thinly sliced corned beef I had meat that seemed more ground, as though they just swept up shavings from preparing other sandwiches and made that the main ingredient in my sandwich. Do note the price on the website is a couple of dollars less than what is actually charged at their Reading Terminal restaurant. My sandwich was taken to eat elsewhere at the market so I didn't have the chance to complain immediately.

Don't miss this one!

By Crystalfree |

We travel from California to Philly to experience the Reading Market and the exceptional turkey at this deli stand inside. For under $10 you can get a delicious turkey on wheat with chips and drink. Large portion of meat and the taste can't be beat.

Great sandwich and friendly owners

This was a great place to eat in Readng Terminal Market!! It is such a fun place to eat, and a very positive thing about this place is that they have quite a few counter seats - as well as serving scrumptious sandwiches. This is a family owned business, and we enjoyed visiting with the owners - so friendly!! Their deli food looked wonderful- wish that we lived close enough to purchase food from here .

Delicious and much to eat!

By Olly_K |

Very friendly personal. Good selection of different foods, particularly the sandwiches. Sandwich was big and delicious!

Delicious Corned Beef

By Dona D |

This vendor in the Reading Terminal was actually recommended to us by another vendor in the market who did not make sandwiches. Obviously they knew what they were talking about. Wonderful corned beef and SUCH a generous portion. When she handed us our bag I was amazed that two sandwiches could weigh that much. My only caveat - I wish they had more white bread options; I wasn't expecting Wonder bread when I asked for our sandwiches on white but nevertheless it was excellent!

Lunch

Lunch

Had family visiting from Florida and we went down to see the Historical Sites. I told them we had to go to the Reading Terminal Market and have lunch at the Hatville Deli. They have the absolute BEST sandwhiches! They are stuffed with the best meats and are delicious! A definite MUST HAVE!!

Nice surprise find

By EFW2014 |

While looking for another vendor we happened upon Hatville Deli. We each ordered a sandwich, corned beef and pastrami. The ladies working the counter were awesome. We sat by accident in the middle of the counter, this allowed us to watch the deli counter in action! $20 for two sandwich’s 1 drink and 1 chip

Wonderful breakfast

By TobyBlades |

Best coffee so far on our trip to Philly, Nice clean bar area to eat at, fast friendly service Inside the market place Very accommodating. We will be back. Had an egg wrap that was perfect.

Corned Beef Goodness!!!!!!!

By Josue C |

I stopped by the Hatville Deli when I was visiting Philadelphia and boy was I happy I stopped there on time. I arrived around 3:40pm not knowing that they close at 4:00pm. The proprietor was an Amish lady whom was very friendly and didn't mind me getting there just before closing. I ordered the corned beef sandwich platter, and wow was it good, in fact best I' ve had period. The Sandwich is big and if you get the platter it comes with home cooked chips. Againg the sandwich was amazing, it had the cole slaw and dressing on it. Hatville Deli is a food stand with bench counter seating only, since it's located inside the Reading Terminal Market. Overall go to Hatville Deli for the corned beef sandwich you won't regret it if your a carnivore.

Fresh Meat

By monica h |

Hatville Deli meat is always nice and fresh. If you don't want what is already sliced and weighted up they can slice the meat for you. Prices are reasonable, and they always let you taste something if you ask.

Family owned and operated, great food, low price, in the Market

By Phillip N |

The Reading Market is full of places to eat (over 160 I'm told), but our favorite (no, we didn't try them all) was the Hatville Deli. The prices are great (around $8 for a sandwich, chips and drink), the food is excellent, and the young people working the counter are pleasant, welcoming and efficient. That's why it's been in the family for 35 years.

TASTY

By baron13 |

just had lunch at the Hatville deli in the Reading Market....Delicious sandwiches.....pastrami to kill for...fresh rye bread, great cole slaw and great deli pickles.....nice selection...very hard to choose from the many sandwiches offered.....can't wait to go to Philly again....

Best corned beef special on the planet.

By Screen G |

Just about the best corned beef sandwich that I have ever had. I have been many places; but theirs is the best! Not too dry, not too lean, perfect. It is sliced just right and the taste is out of this world! They don't give you too much so you are not stuffing yourself trying to eat it. They wait on you quickly and are very hospitable.

Loved it

By Katie B |

Great food, prices, service. They stuff their sandwiches, see attached pictures. Will definitely eat here again when in the area.

BEST part of my Philly trip...

By BBMT |

I tried a philly steak, and it was so-so. But I thoroughly enjoyed the Reading Terminal market and Hatville Deli, hands down! Sitting at the counter, chatting with the friendly wait staff and watching all the action going on was truly FUN. Loved the corned beef sandwich, with the wait staff gal recommended when I asked. I had not sat at a lunch counter in years--just a great lunch and people watching spot!

Fantastic

By bucks17 |

Reading Market is always a fun visit. I had not eaten at this deli before but their turkey reuben sounded just like what I needed that day. The meal came with chips and a pickle and the sandwich was ample. It was also extremely good. Would definitely go back again. If you've never been to Reading Market be aware that at lunchtime the food hall is packed so you may wait in line (for any of the vendors) for a while. I got the food to go and it came pretty quickly which was awesome.

overrated fastfood

By Eric K |

just quick food, tastes good, fills your stomach, bumps up your cholesterol, not a major culinary experience.

Need a half order!

By Karen P |

I returned to Reading Terminal Market with mouth-watering and in a few moments chose to sit at the counter of the Hatville Deli, lured by photos of specials. The young lady behind the counter reminded me of the Pennsylvania Dutch with her German last name and wholesome demeanor. She was attentive and friendly and along with my corned beef sandwich order came a large bag of chips and a sweetened tea. The coleslaw was in the sandwich, which was fine with me. The gentlemen next to me said he had split a sandwich with his wife. I managed to finish one half the three inch thick thinly sliced meat on rye bread with that special Russian dressing and part of a huge pickle but had to give up and take away half the food! Outside on Arch Street a homeless man appreciates my leftovers. I love this market - I’ll be back as much as possible!

Smoked Turkey is delicious!

By DDDFJD |

Visiting Reading Terminal Market for the first time, decided to try the delicious looking deli meat at the Hatville Deli. Ordered the smoked turkey on wheat with cheese & tomato, chips & a drink. $12.42, which I thought was reasonable. The turkey was delicious & moist, chips were delicious & plentiful in the bag, Very happy to have stopped here for a delicious lunch.

Excellent Corned Beef

By BBandFam |

Great value for a lunch in the city. Generous portion of high quality, thin-sliced/shaved corned beef w/ cole slaw & Russian dressing on fresh rye, special came with a can of soda for $7. Simply delicious.

Good Sandwich Shop in Reading Terminal Market

By Wesley C |

Offers large selection of sandwiches to eat in or take out. I decided to order a Ham & Swiss Sandwich on Rye to go to take on the plane. Was very good -- good sized portions -- combo comes with chips & a drink. Way better quality & prices than airport food :)

Filling Sandwiches

By WilSc |

Based in the Reading Terminal Market this was a great spot for lunch. My sandwich was packed full of roast beef... didn’t need to eat again all day! You are able to sit at the counter so no need to head to one of the communal areas, which is a bonus. Highly recommend.

Love! Do they deliver to Boston?

By Lisa C |

When I am in Philly it is for work and I am at the convention center which is next store to Reading Terminal, and at least 2-3 times, I will eat at Hatville for lunch. (And depending on my travels home, I try to get a sandwich or two home). This place is THAT good! I have had their turkey, their chicken salad and their corn beef - and they are all delish! Their Russian dresssing on their corn beef is homemade, and I wish they bottled it. Their prices are very reasonable for about $11, you get a sandwich, homemade chips, a pickle and a drink.

Great sandwiches

By jer b |

We stopped back and I knew I wanted to try the corned beef here. The sandwich was piled high with meat. A “special “ sandwich contains coke slaw and their Russian dressing. It was relatively inexpensive also. Enjoyed the sandwich very much. Clean, open kitchen and friendly staff. We will return.

Corned beef rocks

By Chip T |

Inside the Reading Station, I stopped for a corned beef sandwich. Amazing! Meat was shaved so thin was like buttah!!!I melt in your miuth. You can sit at one of 2 lil mini counters or take it to go and each at a center, general seating area.

Very Basic!

By Conchitha H |

I ordered lunch from here two days in a row as this place is right across the street from my office. I like the way the meat is shaved down into tiny pieces and packed onto the bread but the sandwich lacked flavor. I had the ham & cheese sandwich on homemade roll but it was blah. I also had the corned beef sandwich that was topped with coleslaw and thousand island dressing but it was definately nothing to write home about. It was a waste of my money. I would reccommend finding a New York Style deli!

So good! @Reading Terminal

By Hatesvacations |

The first time I visited Philly I ate here. I had the Lebanon Bologna sandwich with smoked cheddar on rye bread and I thought I'd gone to heaven! Lebabon bologna is a meat I was already familiar with, but I feel like not everyone has heard of it or tried it. It is sweet and smoky and delicious! Hatville also has a killer corned beef on rye with coleslaw and russian dressing. And the woman who makes sandwiches during the week is a BEAST- I mean I've never seen anyone make sandwiches so fast and she never misses a beat!

Pastrami!

By chk2002 |

The pastrami special was excellent. Fast service. Definitely worth the push through the busy market to get to this counter.

It is almost a year and I still talk about the Corn Beef Sandwich at Hatville Deli

By sevensevenseven |

Hands down best Corn Beef Sandwich I have had in my life. I was on a business trip and had a quick bite to eat at the Reading Terminal Market. I opted for the Hatville Deli Corn Beef Sandwich special. It was soooo good. I mean just really unbelievable. The coleslaw was creamy and the Corn Beef was delicious. This sandwich just works. The coleslaw or dressing did not make this sandwich soggy in any way period. It was served with homemade chips and a coke. It was so good. I ate this sandwich for lunch 3 days in a row when I was in Philly. You can sit and the counter. Nice folks working there and the service also was quick. It was so memorable I had them make one to go- putting coleslaw and dressing on the side and I literally brought the sandwich on ice in a bag (had no cooler) back to NY so my family could taste what was I was talking about. I am going on a family trip next month and was planning on stopping in Philly to pick up a few of these sandwiches. Just found out they are closed on Sundays.

Awesome deli, fresh food!

By katsusanna |

I think it's funny that a previous reviewer complained that the corned beef sandwich was shredded, not sliced, that it came with Russian dressing, and that the rye bread had no caraway seeds. Those were all the things we loved about it!!! We visited Reading Terminal Market almost every day during our visit to Philly, and someone we'd met in the city recommended the corned beef sandwich from Hatville Deli. So, we decided to give it a try when we next visited RTM. We visited for an early lunch and had no problem getting seats at the counter. The waitress was SUPER nice and friendly. My husband and I shared the corned beef sandwich (which also came with chips). Not only did they plate our sandwich halves separately, but they also gave us each our own pickle spear. So thoughtful! The sandwich was delicious -- the Russian dressing was so yummy! And it was WONDERFUL to discover that the bread did not have caraway seeds on it! Those things are disgusting. I don't think anyone really likes them (except that one reviewer below, haha). For my beverage, I ordered fresh apple cider, and that was SOOOOO good! I think it was actually my favorite part of the meal! What many restaurants call "apple cider" is often just watery apple juice. But this really tasted like apple cider! Fresh and sweet and juicy! Not watered down at all. We had a wonderful, enjoyable meal at Hatville Deli, and we would definitely recommend it!

The Lucky Seat

By Robert G |

So I had been in Philadelphia for 4 days and was flying home that evening. I had been eating at the Reading Market often and had walked by this deli a few times and the aroma of the meats were always great. On this day lines were long everywhere, but as I walked by Hatville deli a patron got up to leave and I promptly took the empty seat. Well it was a stroke of luck because I proceeded to have the special, an absolutely amazing corned beef sandwich topped with home made Russian sauce and amazing coleslaw. Without question, the very best corned beef sandwich I have ever had, and even better, the price was excellent as well! I recommend it without reservation, try it, and I hope you find a lucky seat as well!!

pastrami please

By Hank956 |

What a great place to sit down and chow. Thank you Destiny for your service with a smile. The menu is easy. We ordered the pastrami special and it was tremendous. On rye with cole slaw and dressing. Moist pastrami, and great rye. Quick service and serving. The sandwich was great and the price was awesome. Give it a try.

Good Roast Bef

By Lorraine N |

We got the Roast Beef Special. I didn't get the cole slaw but my husband did and said it was a little to much on the sandwich. We have tried going back twice for dinner but they close earlier then other establishment. Going to try for lunch today but being Sunday not sure if open or not

The pastrami sandwich you're looking for...

By D. Brian Mann |

Stopped here because I saw how good and fresh the shaved meats looked, and because I saw them making the sandwiches. I love pastrami, but I hate it when it's stringy, too thick, rubbery, and all the other negative things it can often be. But this sandwich was awesome. I got the special, which came on fresh rye bread with Russian dressing, cole slaw, chips, and a drink. 10 bucks plus tip, and it was a generous sandwich. Be sure to pull up a stool at the counter, so you can watch them make the sandwiches and see all the people go by in the market aisles. And then take home some meats & cheeses!

Excellent Corned Beef Special

By gregbooras |

For lunch I decided to try their Corned Beef Special. It comes on fresh soft rye bread with coleslaw and homemade Russian dressing. The sandwich was excellent almost to much to eat. I will be back to try some of their other specials!

Get the special!!

By Cinnne |

We ate at this deli in the Reading Terminal Market. There are so many choices and if you are in the mood for a sandwich, you definitely should choose Hatville Deli & Farm. It was fun to eat at the counter & the service was quick & very friendly. The corned beef was so tasty & tender. Their coleslaw on the sandwiches is very light, it's more like chopped cabbage with a tad of sauce. So glad we choice this spot in the terminal!!

Delicious Corned Beef

By KendallsMom |

Had the corned beef special, it was so good!!! I love a good Ruben and this place can't be beat. The price was pretty reasonable too. If I'm back in Philly I will stop here for a sandwich again.

Great place for lunch

By Tim R |

If you're looking for a good sandwich at Reading Terminal Market try Hatville Deli. The sandwiches are stacked with generous portions of meat. The service is quick and cordial. The prices are reasonable.

Delicious Sandwiches!

By NapiliR |

I had the turkey sandwich one day, and the ham another day. Reasonably priced, and delicious! The combo that includes a soda and chips made a great take out meal to take back to the Marriott where I was staying. If I had been in Philadelphia longer, I would have ordered even more sandwiches.

Great Option For A Do-it-yourself Picnic!

By Betty M |

This Amish stand has a great selection of lunch meats to take home or make an impromtu picnic in one of center city's beautiful parks. The meat is always fresh and yummy!

Great breakfast

By Lisa Y |

Tasty homestyle food cooked by Amish at Reading Terminal. Wouldn't call it healthy but who cares once in a while. I had an egg sandwich and turkey bacon. Service was quick and accurate. Unlike some Reading Terminal vendors, they take credit cards, which is important to business travelers.

Yum so mouthwatering Good

By Harriet M |

I stopped to this deli before heading over to the flower show. I order the Turkey on wheat bread with Cheese combo. The sandwich was thick with meat and just melted on my tongue. I was energized for the rest of my day.

Great Pastrami and easy on the wallet!!

By ALXVA1 |

If you are looking for a great and BIG Pastrami on Rye, this is the place for you!!. Located in the middle of the insanely busy Reading Terminal Market, this Deli Counter offers great sandwiches, wraps and other deli delights. We watched the sandwich maker agog at the Zen like zone she was in as she expertly assembled sandwich after sandwich. The Pastrami Special included a HUGE sandwich, home style chips and a soda, all for less than $12.00, with tip. It is worth the fight through the Reading Terminal to get there.

Pricey

By Mala1571 |

The ingredients are definitely fresh and service is fast. Prices are little much for what I thought was just an alright sandwich. If you don't mind paying a few dollars more for a sandwich and the crowd in Reading Terminal, you won't be disappointed.

Great sandwich, service.

By Reisender1031 |

Service was quick, and the food was delicious. We got the #3 corned beef special, which was great. The sandwich had the perfect amount of meat. It also had the right the right amount of dressing and slaw to make it delicious but not too sloppy.

Delicious eats

By Dan D |

The food tastes so fresh, because it IS!! I have never been disappointed and in fact I shop here weekly for deli meat because it is so good. Don't miss it.

Great Meats but Skip the Dressings

By Chris W |

We stopped for lunch and we were pleased with the generous sandwiches and a very reasonable prices--as with most places in the Reading Terminal it is cramped but they do have their own counter space so you do not need to take your food to a common area. I was very impressed with the pastrami but I really thought that the Russian dressing on the 'special' really detracted from the sandwich--as one who thinks that the meat should be the 'star' of the sandwich, I would suggest you keep it simple and avoid the sauces. With all that said, this a great choice in the terminal.

Coldcuts & Cheese

By Prudence S |

They have the best cold cuts- thin and delicious. They also sell cheeses that are unique and tasty. They are always gracious to cut, and you may have a taste before you buy.

My go to place in the Reading Terminal market

By lbaustin3 |

The corned beef sandwiches are fantastic with slaw and homemade dressing. A must try! They offer a variety of sandwiches including pastrami, turkey but this one I think is far and away the best! The amount of meat that they put on it is incredible!

Best roast beef

By CdGainey |

Wish I had one at home so I could order more. Deluxe roast beef was so rare and tender. Amazing. The whole terminal was really cool, but parking sucks

One of best sandwiches ever

By ken j |

During the huge Flower Show, we walked over here for lunch. The corned beef sandwich with Russian dressing was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Fresh, and incredibly flavorful. The beef was shredded, which really worked. Plus the size was large and service good. Will be back.

Worst Corn Beef Sandwich Ever

By LM77WashingtonDC |

Went to Reading Market and their sign advertised their famous corned beef sandwich. It was a tasteless mess. The corned beef was shredded, not sliced, and slathered with Russian dressing. Shredding the meat robs it of any flavor. The rye bread had no caraway seeds and was also tasteless. Very disappointing. I threw the sandwich away after a few bites.

Best Roast Beef in Downtown Philly

By Bishop K |

The cold cuts were incredibly tasty and fresh. The bread for their sandwiches was of top quality. The staff was welcoming and very polite. The portions were above average. But best of all their prices were the most competitive in regards to their competitors in the same food category. They are located in the rear left side of the market, which is known as the Amish Corner. Sandwiches were so good I ordered one to take with us.

Corned Beef is Amazing

By ShanesDriver |

We stopped by for lunch and were very happy. The Corned Beef with housemade Russian Dressing on Rye was superb.

The BEST PALCE FOR LUNCH in Philly!

By Ken Navitsky |

Had a turkey sandwich and it was piled high and the rye bread was fresh and soft! Great service and watching Rebekah making those orders was awesome, she is a MACHINE!!! I would eat here every day if I cou;d as the whole marketplace is amazing! It was a good deal too!

Tasty deli

By Alex |

Came to the reading terminal for lunch. Everywhere was busy including this place, but the line moved quickly. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and the prices were pretty fair. The food also came quickly. But the best part was that the sandwich was really tasty! Probably one of the best deli sandwiches I've had. I would definitely come back here!

great little sandwich bar

By Webbuzzard |

Fast service, good prices and very tasty sandwiches. The pastrami special with slaw and Russian dressing was delicious.
