Great selection of dishes, including the lunch specials -- delicious and generous portions. The wait staff is friendly, and the owner is very nice and says hello to each table when he can. My favorite -- the smoked ham & egg fried rice: it's not a dish found in a lot of other restaurants, and Henry's makes a tasty version!

My husband and I ate here for the first time while visiting SF. The food was great, big portions, excellent service and not expensive. The restaurant was very clean And well maintained. We will return to this restaurant on our next visit.

My husband and I just arrived at a nearby Airbnb and they had this on their list of recommended restaurants. It seemed a little simple and kind of a dive honestly. We went in anyway. It was clean. They were friendly. The Diane’s meat pie was totally different than any Chinese food we’ve had and very yummy. We also split the Henry’s special and it had a unique flavor. We went with mild and maybe could have handled the medium but the flavor was awesome. One single serving of rice was enough for us with leftovers to go! All in all a good choice.

It is not that bad but something about it when it has been to go it just looks like it is lacking flavor or something. I guess to me it looks sad and I eat through my eyes. If you can ignore the visual then go for it it has some flavor.

The grandson continues to operate this famed Chinese restaurant as the best in the world. If you come to San Francisco, either as a local or visitor, you should visit this fantastic establishment at its newest address of 110 Natoma Street. You will be absolutely delighted.

On a recent vacation to San Francisco, my wife and I found this great neighborhood hunan restaurant. My wife had tofu & veggies, and I had kung pao shredded pork. Both dishes tasted great. My wife is gluten free and normally avoids Chinese restaurants. The folks at Henry's were very knowledgable regarding gluten free preparation, and were very helpful with menu selections. Kudos to Jeff and the rest of the folks at Henry's Hunan on Church St for a job well done. We enjoyed our meal so much that we returned again a few days later. We'll return again when our travels take us back to San Francisco.

We went to another restaurant first because of the reviews from the contributors on trip advisor and both restaurants were liked equally however, I must say that Henry Hunan is definitely the place to go if you are looking for good quality Chinese food that is fast, authentic, yummy and in a VERY CLEAN restaurant! Much different vibe than the other very dirty restaurant House of NANKING that was highly rated on here by travelers. I was shocked!! I would not ever go there again! We sat down, order water and an appetizer and went to wash our hands the place smelled so dirty that we quickly got our check and left to go to Henry Hunan's!! We were delighted when we saw white table cloths and a clean floor. A totally different experience. You will love the staff there too!! It was so yummy and they are the sweetest people! Loved our experience at Henry's would go again. We had the Chicken Chow Mien, Mongolian Beef, and Pork Dumplings!! Yummmmmmy!!

The restaurant would need a refresh but the food is good and at reasonable prices. My advice is to order by phone and come to take it away. Otherwise good spot for a quick lunch.

Excellent Service and a Fair Price. This establishment was recommended by the manager of the Wharf Inn. We walked from our hotel to the location on Grant St and enjoyed some of the SF sights along the way. I would say the quality of the meal is above average for this type and the cost is bellow average. Just what we were looking for. I cleaned my plate.

I've been coming to this place since I was a kid--very authentic Chinese food. The Ambiance is nothing to write home about, but it's clean, the service is always good, and the food is outstanding. I particularly love the kung pao (any meat, but shrimp is my favorite), it's got a deep savory flavor from the fermented black bean sauce. The Diana's Special Meat Pie is also a must--unlike anything you've had anywhere else. Any time I'm visiting home, a stop here is top of my to-do list.

Simple and traditional Hunan style Chinese food. The sea food platter and Vegetable plater were finger licking quality. Besides great food the service was top class and was easy on pocket.

Great local Chinese food. Two blocks from my son’s house. My wife and I took our 3 year old grandson for dinner. Had broccoli chicken, hunan eggplant, chop suey with shrimp and egg rolls. The three of us ate it all. Lot’s of families dine here with their young children. The waiter knew it was time to get our check when our grandson wanted to explore the place. Check came quickly. Henry’s also does a brisk take out business

I've eaten great Hunan seafood, beef, pork and vegetarian meals half-dozen times and can safely say it's the best Hunan food and service in its San Francisco Church-Street neighborhood. I especially like the twice-cooked, smoked pork dishes, the magic they do with egg plant, and their quick and pleasant service.

We met a friend of ours for lunch as he, and other friends, have said the food was good. We agree after our lunch. Pleasantly surprised. Glad we don't live closer as we'd be frequenting this place weekly. We will go again.

I have been to Henry's a couple of times since it's next door to Regent Thai. The food is quite good. I started off with the dumplings which were very good but my favorite was the Diane's meat pie. It was sort of like a Chinese hamburger. the beef was between lettuce and it was really tasty and in my opinion a bit large for an appetizer. I used to order the eggplant which was good but my favorites at this restaurant was the appetizers. Entrees are solid though.

We stopped in to Henry's Hunan because other places nearby were jammed and we didn't want to wait. The crowds might've known something we didn't. Our dishes were fine but not distinctive or outstanding. Still, we took the ample leftovers back to our daughter, and she was delighted. Service was fine, and the dining room was quiet (yay!).

Disclosure: I am distantly related to the current owner and staff of Henry's Hunan on Church (but not solicited -- went there to eat great Hunanese food) We were in San Francisco to visit my sibs and extended family. Because of the COVID-19 situation, I requested to eat take-out in an outdoor setting. My sis planned the perfect luncheon at Day Park, a community park in Noe Valley. Henry's is on Church nearby. We got more food than we bargained for and all it is very tasty and fresh. Using disposables and wooden chopsticks we dug into the chop suey pails and did a pretty fast and thorough job of emptying the cartons which had dumplings, fried rice, eggplant pork, house smoked ham, and braised scallops. All were enjoyed by the young and old next to the baseball diamond. This branch of Henry's Hunan is owned by Jean and her brother Jeff. Jean's husband Lewis, and other relatives pitch in for service, prep, and cooking. They are from Hunan. Next time you're in Noe Valley, try Henry's Hunan for an authentic taste of Chinese food.

I found this while searching for good Chinese in San Francisco, and it was top notch. Make sure to start with the pot stickers. Very reasonably priced. $20 for 2 and we had a big to go container as we could not finish it all. Best fried rice ever.

This Restaurant is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! We had just arrived in San Fran at 7pm-ish. We waited to eat, because we wanted our friend to recommend a place for a late dinner. He recommends Henry's but they are about 15 minutes from closing time, by the time we get there. We reluctantly walked in and were welcomed with smiles and excitement that we arrived. I hate being "that group", but they acted like there were hours before closing. I was already impressed. We sat, ordered a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and I ordered a beer. I ordered the Henry's special and my GF ordered the beef and string peas along with a serving of pork fried rice. The Food was perfect. It came out promptly and was piping hot. The rice was some of the best pork fried rice that I have EVER had and the house made Hunan sauce has my mouth watering as I type this! LITERALLY. Henry's was the absolutely PERFECT way to start our trip off right. We left in great moods, full of great food, and laughing and smiling. I can't wait to visit my friends on the West Coast again and part of that reason is so I can enjoy Henry's Hunan again!!!!!!!!! Every one should go here!

What a treat. All the dishes are prepared in a healthy way and the Hunan style cuisine is just heavenly. My favorite Chinese restaurant. Head and shoulders above others.

Another family favorite with several locations! The one in Noe Valley on Church street is VERY family friendly and will dial down the spices for kids (or adults) as needed. A wide ranging menu of traditionally prepared Chinese food keeps the placed packed. Portions are large, so you will get to enjoy your food the next day. Chow mien with ham and steamed pot stickers are very good as are some of their specialty items. Service is friendly and quick.

What a fine - excellent food at a reasonable price. Same items we order in Los Angeles were 25% less here. Quality and taste of food was outstanding - absolutely ,oved this place and would go back any time we are in SF.

We first went to Henry's in 1976 at the original store on Kearny St. We no longer live in the Bay Area but when we were recently back, we made it a point to return and the closest branch was on Church Street. The food remains outstanding. Harvest Pork is the best rendition of Twice Cooked Pork I have had anywhere. The Chicken Salad is terrific and all of the four or five dishes we tried in two visits were recommended. The place itself is light and airy - altogether a very good dining experience.

After reading all the great reviews, I guess I was expecting top quality Chinese. The moo she pork pancakes were all ripped before arrival, so hard to use. The dumplings had bone chips in them. All in all, not worth trying again in a city known for great Chinese food.

I have been going to Henry's for 35 years. I have since moved out of state and I still manage to get there a couple times a year. This place is off the charts great. It has specialty dishes you will never find anywhere else. Diana's Special is a meat pie that you eat like a sandwich and can't be missed. The chicken salad is wonderful. Henry's Special has scallops, shrimp, beef, check and is unreal. The place is spicy and that's why you go there. Best restaurant in the U.S.
Worth the trip
When visiting San Francisco's Chinatown we did a quick online search on the best restaurants and Henry's Hunan came up. It meant we had to walk a few extra blocks away from the main Grant Street circus, but the trip was worth it. The staff was wonderful and we had one of the best meals we had in San Francisco.
