Ok food

By Jorge T |

When Henry's Puffy Taco was at it's original locale by St. Mary's University and when it was smaller, the food was outstanding! Now it's not so much. the lines are long and then for food that is Meh. We'd visit there but only if invited by friends for some drinks and food but to go just for Puffy Tacos...nope.

Yummy!

By nicholsoncrew6 |

Daughter requested tacos and I found this little place. A little bit pricey but you get a ton of food! My daughter loved her tacos and my chicken burrito was very tasty. It could have had more meat in it but it had lots of flavor and I couldn’t stop eating it! My only complaint (I should have taken it back up to the counter) was it wasn’t really hot or warm through out the burrito. The cheese wasn’t fully melted. It was kind of warm and I was so hungry I just kept eating. I would definitely go back. Very laid back atmosphere with great chips and salsa! It was clean and just a nice little place to have a good meal.

New "puffy taco" fan

By COMomX4 |

We ate here twice during our 4 days in San Antonio. Very much enjoyed the food, staff, and ambiance. It is a bit on the loud side - more of a fiesta than a quiet, romantic dinner. But it was great fun for the whole family.

Not just puffy taco's

By Phil R |

Henry's has been around a long time in SA, and the puffy taco ' s are some of the best. I was a little disappointed on my last visit with the shredded chicken puffy taco's. The should have been called chunky puffy taco's. There was a lot of chicken, but it was just dry chicken chunks with lettuce and tomatoes. The tortilla soup is good, but a little over priced ($5) for a small bowl.

Great

By ymbl |

From the habanero pepper margarita to the spicy beef fajita meat and deliciously fresh guacamole, Henry's makes high marks. They handled our group of nine with no problem and everyone said they loved their meal. The queso is worth it too! Highly recommend!

Puffy Tacos ROCK!

By disfamof3 |

We recently moved to SA and had never heard of Puffy Tacos. We have since tried them at s few locations. Henry's are hands down our favorite. We have had amazing experiences here with the staff and food. It is our favorite puffy taco location in town!

Disappointing Salsa & Margarita

By Jdilly2 |

Being that this is a Mexican style restaurant we assumed they could get the salsa & the Margaritas right. We were wrong. The salsa was SO hot even the adults couldnt enjoy it. My Margarita tasted like a virgin. I couldnt taste any tequila. It just tasted like sour mix. The salt was flavored possibly? Our food was bland and disappointing. We got fajitas and tacos. The one bright side was our waitress. I wish I would have taken down her name because she deserves praise for her upbeat personality and quick service. Our verdict was there are plenty of good places to eat, dont waste your time here.

Amazing puffy tacos!

By wemarionFishnGolf |

Tacos, guacamole, enchiladas, cervezas, and tres leches cake... every bit was outstanding as we pigged out on our last night of San Antonio Mexican food. Fun atmosphere with a few TVs... it was busy so we ate at the bar but it was still quite good. The best puffy tacos and town but have to admit that I loved the enchiladas as well! Ended with one of the best tres leches cakes I’ve ever had (and yes, I shared!)

Family and Friends Oriented Restaurant

By RABabcock |

I hadn't been to Henry's in over 5 years, but was nearby on a Saturday and dropped in, because I loved their puffy tacos shells (not too greasy). While the puffy tortillas, Mexican rice and charro beans were great, everything else was simply average, except for the beef fajita meat in my tacos: it was grisly, sinewy and bland meat; quite disappointing. I had the Senor Special ($11.99), in order to get twp tacos and a cheese enchilada. The latter was good, but nothing to brag about. I sat at the bar and the place was quite busy, so the popularity hasn't waned, even after all the Bandera Rd and IH 410 overpass construction and the atmosphere was a positive vibe, but the tacos meat bothered me enough to give this average grade.

Great Food! Great Service! Great Environment!

By Nicolasjon |

Excellent place! I have been here several times with my family. We have always had a great experience. I would highly recommend Henry's Puffy Tacos.

great mex food

By aquamark762 |

Great food, you can't go there too often and much as you would want, as this place can dish up some calories with those puffy tacos and chips. Great restaurant.

Great food

By amedina86 |

Had the shredded chicken puffy tacos and they were delicious!! Also loved their freshly squeezed lemonade! Service was good also

Nice surroundings but touch greasy

By David D |

Food was a bit greasy but nice taste for most part. The puffy taco was not crisp but like a sopapea with chicken on top. Enchilada's were good. Although the prices were excellent for lunch..

Birthday Dinner

One of my sister's favorite restaurants. Food is always good, but service not so much. Chips and salsa are good. Monterrey chicken fajitas are the best in town.

Carne Guisada Puffy Taco!

By HoustonTX Foodies |

We saw this place on the Texas Bucket list' and decided to try it on our next trip to SA. It did not disappoint! The picadillo taco was good, but the carne guisada taco was the best!

Love this place.

By Roderick M |

This place was fantastic. Whenever I'm in San Antonio, Henry's is a must-stop. Everything is great about this place!

Service was not so good. Food was so so.

By JazlynnCarragan123 |

We were on vacation and we saw this place so we decided to go. The service was not so good. She took so long to refill our drinks. We seriously waited 30 minutes for our check. The food was so so, the refied beans tasted like they were out of a can. Same as rice. The enchiladas were so so. The only thing I enjoyed were the picadillo puffy taco.

Dinner

By Candie R |

This was our first time here. The food was the best mexican food weve had in a long time. Service was quick. Our waitress was awseome. She took the time to recommend some good items to us. We shall return

Great Puffy Tacos!

By Dora T |

Known for their puffy tacos, and know why, they are good! We had the TexMex plate with one enchilada, one beef puffy tacos, beans and rice. The taco was excellent, the cheese enchilada was ok. The borracho beans were excellent too. Mary provided the best service, along with a super Margarita! Ambiance was festive, crowded for a Tuesday night, but we only had a short 10 minute wait. I highly recommend it.

A new kind of taco..puffy tacos

By StenaJoy |

Two of us ordered puffy tacos with a variety of fillings. My favorite were the spicy chicken and the one that was saucy. I can't remember the name. The shell is really unique and tasty. My son had a burrito. The burrito was huge and he said was tasty. Not a great beer selection. Just run of the mill default Mexican or American beers. It's popular, so be prepared for a wait. Don't go starving.

Perfectly adequate Tex Mex

By Matthew B |

The food is pretty good, better than average but nothing special. Undeserving of the "landmark" status that people often bestow upon it.

First time here, but not the last!

By Sassie54 |

This was our first time here, and won’t be our last. The tacos are sooo good, and the enchiladas, too. Margaritas are excellent and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. It’s quickly become a favorite.

Great puffy corn tacos and meats

By Frank B |

This was my first visit to Henry's and I will return. The standard platter was excellent with choice of carne guisada or shredded chicken top options. Meal came with charro beans and rice, both very good.

Good food

By mclaren88 |

There two Henry Soft Taco establishments. This one is far superior for service and larger food variety

off day, or have they lost it?

By 16weekayeartraveler |

I was here a couple of years ago when traveling thru, really loved it and recommeded this place to several friends who came to San Antonio. I was looking forward to a great meal but was really disapointed. Sat at the bar for lunch. The tacos were not great at all. Ordered three diffrent types, all three were, well not worth finishing. Too bad, used to be great.

PUFFY TACOS are a MUST

By clucumber |

We had heard that you "have to eat at Henry's when you go to San Antonio" so we took the suggestion and went. We had a wonderful server, Lauren, who helped us navigate the menu for creating the perfect puffy taco. They were amazing and both my husband and I were stuffed after eating 2 with sides of beans and rice. The restaurant was clean and nice, even though the Governor lifted the mask mandate and opening at 100% they were still requiring masks and spacing their seating, which was welcomed by us. If we lived in San Antonio, this place would be one of our frequent go to places!

Puffy Taco's Good, But Greasy

By Marge387 |

The shredded chicken puffy tacos (with added guacamole) were so good. Great flavor. I'm not sure I'd ever get a puffy taco again though. Glad I tried it, but it was really greasy. The rice left something to be desired too. Overall, nice place. Lots of TVs around to watch the game while eating. Our waitress was friendly. We'd come back here.

Great food

By Lillian D |

First time visiting this restaurant. We had a great lunch here. Food and service were great. Would recommend this place.

Puffy Tacos!

By jessicamariella |

When a friend heard I was traveling to San Antonio, he insisted I try puffy tacos. I had no idea what they were but decided to go anyway. I was NOT disappointed. You could mix and match which ones you get (as far as meat). I told my server to surprise me! He was super sweet and patient with me while I asked a LOT of questions. When I travel back to San Antonio I will definitely eat there again.

Best puffy taco in San Antonio

By TexasTravler45 |

We have been going to Henry's for many years, at the old location and the new location, driving quite a way for our tacos. We always get them ala carte, because we don't need the rice and beans. My wife gets the shredded chicken and I get the spiced fajita chicken. Add the great salsa and it is a bit of heaven. These are the only puffy tacos in S.A. that holds together, since all the others restaurants serve watery/too moist chicken and the result is your taco ends up on your plate in a big mess. We only go at lunch and try to beat the crowds, like most old folks. Thanks Henry for years of great puffy tacos.

A Puffy Taco Always Served at Henry's

By Edwin A |

Decided to go with the family on a Friday night after work (especially after a Friday pay day). World cup soccer was on the TVs and the mariachi band was in full swing. The service was very fast and the food very tasty. I did choose the 3 Puffy Taco plate, and was it huge. I ate the third one just to ensure that there was no waste. I really enjoy the ambiance and recommend to all that cross its path.

Terrible service

By acuctomer |

Puffy tacos were ok, but this is the worst I've been treated in a restaurant in years. Forty minutes to get two tacos? We were on the verge of getting up and walking out.

If this is Mexican, I'm from Guadalajara

By kickstander |

This was the poorest excuse of a Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. We drove out of our way to eat here at our hotel clerks suggestion. What a waste of time. The restaurant is nice, the staff was friendly but the food was as plain as could be. There were no spices or flavor to anything. Not the puffy taco, not the burritos not enchiladas. The chips and salsa were the highlight and the chips tasted stale. In a city know for it's Mexican heritage and influence this place is a joke. My daughter couldn't even eat her meal, she ended up sending it back. This after we had been driving for 15 hours to get to BMT graduation. The took the meal off our billl but seriously, avoid the waste of time. IF you want Mexican food, drive right past here and look for one, anyone of the smaller family owned places along the way.

Best Puffy Tacos

By teacher41 |

My husband and I arrived from the airport and stopped here from dinner. By far, the best puffy tacos. We tried a few other places for them during our stay, but nowhere came close. Lightweight and nongreasy. We also had the burrito which was really good.

First Time

By L H |

We had heard about this place over the years but just hadn't been in the area to eat here. Today we were and stopped in for lunch as the dining room is open. We were greeted and seated promptly (masks/face coverings are required). You can scan the menu right at the table but we didn't have phones to do that so they provided us with paper menus. The inside is very roomy with both table and booth seating and room to social distance. Our waiter, Nicolas, was very prompt, personable and efficient. We orders the small enchilada dinner ($8.49) which is two enchilads, rice and beans. Even though this is a lunch size, it did not come with the drink which was and additional ($2.95). The food was great and enjoyed the almost gravy like topping, salsa just right and delicious chips and enjoyed the meal. The noise level was very low. Their bathrooms were well kept and appreciate the self dispensing soap and towels. Only thing is if they had lunch specials that included the drink.

Best tacos ever!

By Carol F |

Crispy and puffy tacos and tasty bean soup. All the orders looked appealing all made fresh. Friendly service. Worth the drive if staying in downtown area.

Puffilicious!!

By PamG_review |

I never had a puffy taco before , but I can't say that any more. The chicken puffy taco was wonderful. A unique texture that's not too crunchy or soft.... the goldilocks of tacos... just right! Our server Josephine was a great host for our first visit. But you shouldn't pass up on the tortilla soup... it is delicious! They serve all the ingredients in a bowl and pour the flavorful broth on top. Yum.

Beans in a can

By thirdone72 |

The food was cheap and the service was bad. Chips Stale Place is dirty and they need a dress code. Rick the Owner not worth talking to.

A unique tasty treat that originated in San Antionio..the puffy taco.

By Yodotdog |

Experiemce the "original puffy tact" at This location. Prices very easy on the wallet. Full bar, tasty charro beans and a great variety of puffy tacos customized to your very own desires. Ground beef and potato aka Picadillo or chicken and about 8 other filling available. Serve home made flour totillas and great salsa too.

Tex Mex

By barry b |

Great place to meet old friends and have some great mex food and great drinks. The Bar is fully stocked w/all the good mex beers.

Great puffy taco and enchurito

By Dorothy F |

This place came highly recommended by family and it did not disappoint. I had a puffy chicken taco and my husband had the enchurito and a puffy fajita taco. All were delicious. We also had spicy bloody Mary's since we were there about 10:45 for and they were some of the best we've had. Chips and hot sauce were tasty as well. We will be back!

Ok food

By MARGARET H |

Stopped by for a quick bite. Food is average. Good drinks and clean restaurant. Would stop in again if in the area but still on mission to find our favorite!

Quick Dinner with Family

By MattSWine |

A lot of folks will say Henry's has the best puffy tacos in SA. It wld be tuff to prove em wrong! The meat is perfectly done, and the puffy tortillas are super flavorful and made just right. The flour tortillas are delicacies. The charro beans are scrumptious. The rice is a total wow - generous dash of cumin makes it earthy and yummy. And family of four can do dinner for less than $40?! Yep! Great place. Good service too!

Best Puffy Tacos!!

By Debra W |

We had shredded chicken puffy tacos, fajita chicken, picadillo, fajita beef puffy tacos, and the shrimp enchiladas with AMAZING poblano sauce!! Best puffy tacos that don't fall apart!! Very yummy!

Great food & Friendly staff!

By amanda861 |

Absolutely love this place! everything on the menu is fantastic! I have had better margaritas, but the awesome friendly staff makes up for that! There seems to always be a long wait, most of the time it is well worth it!!

Birthday Blues

By 7travelgirl2929 |

Usually a good place to go but not this time. Iced tea tasted like dirty dish water. Charro Beans had a large triangular piece of plastic in it(about 2 1/2 inches long). Waitress was nice and they offered to bring me another one. ..from a different batch they said. The other 2 guests at the table had to leave their beans because they were not offered replacements. Also the quality of food in general was not at all like at previous visits. The manager took my charges off the bill but we did not enjoy my birthday lunch at all.

Amazing Authentic Mexican

By watchdakid10 |

This is an amazing place to get some good food. The environment is great, the service was excellent and im happy to never have to wait for anything. The food is truly some of the best, especially the puffy tacos which is their specialty. Would recommend to anyone visiting San Antonio since its not far from the airport itself.

Great Tex Mex food

By Peter happy puntacana |

The front desk of our hotel reccomended . When we got there it was a long waiting list , we waited about 45 minutes.. Once we sitted we got our drinks right away, it was a bit longer wait for our food. When the food arrived , all that wait was well forth it, DELICIOUS.Also the mexican band , singing by your table it was a plus. Any time you mix good food and music , in my book its a hit. Thank you.

Authentic Mexican Food!

By momma2rugrats |

I had the cheese enchilada dinner. It was very delicious! Our waiter was very friendly and funny. Quite a sense of humor. Looking for authentic mexican food? Henry's is the place to go!

Worst Salsa Ever

By Tammy C |

This restaurant has the potential of being a good one, but falls short of the mark. First we came during a “shift change” and this created a 20 wait for a late lunch. There were quite a few other diners, but also a lot of empty tables. My second issue was the salsa. It tasted like tomato paste with water. It was horrible. I looked around to see if other people were eating it. I could not believe they thought it was ok to serve. We did get an app that had a much better version of salsa. That’s what you would think would be served, not the tomato sauce version. I still can’t get over how bad it was. The worst I have ever put in my mouth. We both had puffy tacos. I thought they were greasy and will probably never eat one again. My friend said hers was ok. Let me end on a positive note. My beer was ice cold and the service was good.

Family Lunch

By Alec W |

We're from out of town so had to try these San Antonio puffy tacos we've heard so much about. The hype was real and they were delicious. Tried several different meats between all of us and everyone was satisfied with this local favorite. Love the local feel of this place and the location was fairly convenient with a decent mount of parking. The only reason 4 stars were given was that our server wasn't incredibly pleasant and seemed a little annoyed at times.

Good food, a tad loud

By v_christy |

The hubby and I are trying all the place in our city and we happened upon this place. It was a tad loud, a 21st birthday girl was present but after that it simmered down a bit. I ordered their Banderaita which was colorful and a more fruity rita. Good though. The chips sad to say, I agree with the other comments, they were bland and a bit hard. I like light and crispy chips personally. The salsa packed a bit of a punch so if you like heat you will like this. I ordered the shredded chicken puffy tacos fully loaded and that was yummy! Our server Victoria was great. Will be back!

Still great, Good Option for Visitors, Not as good as Ray's Drive Inn

By sati09 |

Our third visit to Henry's and, of course, we had to get the puffy tacos. (Hey, you can get great Tex-mex all over San Antonio--why get that here? Come here for the one thing you can't get very many places, or at all, outside of SA). Tried both the regular chicken and chicken fajita taco fillings and both were high quality, without gristle or bone, and nicely seasoned. It does peeve me to have to pay extra for cheese (.25/taco) which should be a normal part of a TexMex tacos, though. The puffy taco shells were well-prepared, with the right balance of crispiness to chewiness and not too greasy. That said, they are still not nearly as good as the one's at Ray's Drive-Inn, which have more of a corn flavor, in my opinion. But since Ray's neighborhood might not be appropriate for some people (like, visitors), Henry's is a great option. Very friendly and prompt service this visit. Also had a tasty margarita--not too weak, as is often the habit at many restaurants in the daytime. A solid choice anytime Ray's is closed, or if you need higher-end decor and location. But for taste, Ray's still wins.

Still the best puffy tacos!

By Susan M |

I have been eating Henry's Puffy Tacos for at least 10 years and they are still the best tacos ever! It doesn't matter when I visit, they are always served hot and delicious. The service is always outstanding. My favorite is the picadillo puffy taco. My husband loves the taco salad. You may have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table but it is so worth it.

Puffy Taco Perfection

By xAngelaMarie |

You have to indulge with a puffy taco while in San Antonio, and Henry's is one of the best. I would go to Henry's Puffy Tacos Express, it is the original location off Woodlawn. Definitely a local spot as opposed to its touristy brother. I had the spicy chicken and beef, both fried to perfection and delicious. The tortillas soup is also fantastic. Remember, go to the original location for a better meal and experience!

First timer and SO worth dodging S.A. traffic to go there!

By Propellerhead76 |

I grew up on this side of San Antonio back in the 70s, but there was no Henry's Puffy Tacos. It sits about 100 yards from the former site of the McDonalds's restaurant where I used to work. We had the 3 Puffy Taco Plate -- chicken, beef, and shredded chicken. We also had a side of guacamole. No sodas, just water. Our tab was $16.22 including tax. The service was fast and attentive. Nice atmosphere...festive and colorful. Good music, too. The food: The puffy tacos were outstanding! We were very happy with our choices, but would, next time, probably go with all beef or all chicken. The shredded chicken was just okay. If you like tacos, but have never tried "puffy tacos," Henry's is a MUST when in the Loop 410 / Bandera Road area of San Antonio.

Excellent Taco's

By travelerkent |

The taco's and the staff were both excellent. You also get free warm chips and they have a a salsa bar. We both really enjoyed the meal.

Tasty Puffy Tacos and Great Margaritas

By volcanogirl |

We wanted to try puffy tacos when we were in San Antonio, and Henry's seems to be the place to go. The restaurant was packed when we arrived at dinner time. They said the wait would be half an hour, but texted us in less than ten minutes that our table was ready. Our server brought us complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were thick and hard, not my favorite, but everything else was tasty. I had two puffy tacos - the beef fajita and the picadillo. My husband had a puffy taco with shredded chicken and a cheese enchilada. The enchilada was good, but puffy tacos are where this place shines. The picadillo was our favorite. Next time I'd get two of those, very flavorful. They came topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. We paid a bit extra for sour cream. Our plates came with rice and beans. We tried both refried and borracho, and the borracho was our favorite, nice and smoky. Also had a Cabo Wabo margarita which was delicious, and I love that it was made with real fruit juice and wasn't too sweet. Service was very good, and the place was clean. Portions were pretty generous, but we devoured it all. There's a large parking lot in the back where you can park. Prices were very reasonable, much cheaper than on the river. Would definitely come back again and recommend this spot for anyone who wants to get their puffy taco fix.

Henry's Hits A Home Run

By Jim T |

We dined here one evening as a party of four. Three of us ordered the puffy tacos. Salsa was good, but chips were not my favourite. Food was tasty and servings were generous. Friendly staff/servers, convivial atmosphere, with several TVs tuned to sports (basketball and World Series). Plenty of parking. Cool decor.

Outstanding Food and Killer Margarita's

By Peter C |

Fantastic meal in a wonderful atmosphere. The service is top notch, the Mexican Plate, topped off with the famous Puffy Taco is worth traveling a long distance for by itself. Compliment it with a great drink and you won't want to leave!

Woo hoo! Got me some puffy tacos!

By Michelle J |

This place great with kids, food excellent, kind of a bit of a drive, but very worth the trip! Loved my chicken stuffed tacos!

Puffy Taco! Not typical TexMex!

By James A |

Pictures might look like typical TexMex, but the tastes are homemade deliciousness! Puffy tacos...Looks like a slightly thick corn tortilla was deep fried and turns into a crunchy on the outside chewy on the inside taco shell. Great filings. Try the Mexican beef stew. Shrimp enchiladas are killer. Lots of grilled shrimp, with a Chipotle cream sauce. Mexican rice and charro beans have tons of flavor.

Very good and fast

By cheermom91 |

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon. We had to wait about15-20 minutes for a table. When we were seated we were served quickly. We ordered the 3 puffy tacos. Very good. I got beef fajita, carne gusada and a shredded chicken all with Cheese and guac. Very good. I would say the care gusada was the best. Queso and dip were good. Pomegranate Margarita was very good. Not too expensive either. I recommend- great food and fast service.

A unique taco experience

By J B |

Henry's has great service, a warm atmosphere and pretty darn good margaritas. But its the Puffy Taco that you want. If you order just Puffy Tacos, they'll usually be at your table within about 3 minutes. Unreal. Took longer to get drinks from the bar. Other dishes take a normal time, but its the puffy tacos you want. It is truly a unique dish. Probably not the best place to take large groups though.

Please bring your ear plugs.

By Escsant |

Our family went to have an early dinner on the eleventh of October 2014. All I can say is that the food was fine, a little over priced. But what killed the mood was the noise. Rude patrons that don't respect others right to enjoy their meal. People shouting while having a conversation, to the point where you hear every word said. Parents disciplining their children at the top of their lungs as their children cry. This scene was repeated all over the restaurant. Management should try to make the atmosphere pleasant for everyone.

Good value

By Doug W |

Love the Mexican food here. Puffy tacos are unusual and good, but all other entrees we ordered were very tasty. Service was also good.

Not very good

By Kirk10100 |

I had seen this place on some food show and it looked pretty good. It wasn’t. The queso and chips was ok. Basically it was just melted velvety cheese. Very thick but didn’t have the usual chunks of tomato and chili. The tortilla soup was also ok. Nice warm broth with tortilla chips and a slice of avocado. Unlike tortilla soup at other places, cheese was extra. Finally, ordered two puffy tacos. Shredded chicken and picadillo. Neither taco was very tasty. The chicken was bland and chewy. The picadillo was a mushy concoction that resembled the stuffing from a jack in the box taco without the flavor. None of the food I ordered was terrible just bland. Now I will say the service was great. My server Justin was quick and attentive. This place will fall under my list of places to try and not go back to.

Great Food

Great place to eat and great atmosphere. Went later in the evening and the service was great. Staff was very friendly

Lunch with the Honey

By Ruth H |

Had lunch with my hubby, just because. I had the Shrimp tacos, puffy and it was yummy. My hubby had the encharito and it was also delicious according to him. You get a lot of food and all tasty. The only thing I wasn't too into was the spanish rice and the refried beans. I would stick with the charro beans. The lemonade is made fresh and it was yummy. The only other thing lacking was our waitress. She started out good in the beginning but then kinda forgot about us at the end. Had to wait for a while, for her to come back so we could pay and go.

Great as always

By Phil R |

Stopped in for a light lunch. I chose the beef fagita salad and my wife went with her favorite avacado puffy tacos. I was blown away at the fagita meat! I have never tried fagita's here before, but they were some of the best I have ever had and I have eaten fagitas all over San Antonio. I will go back just to order fagita tacos.

Nice little gem

By RanRen |

We were recommended to go and we’re delighted we did. The puffy tacos are excellent, rice and love the Charro beans. Amazing shrimp rellano, guacamole was excellent to. Drinks were good, service was very good. No complaints. Reasonable for a family.

Died and Gone to Heaven!!!

By Texasluckytravelet |

I was stuck in San Antonio for a series of very boring work meetings but lunch made it all worthwhile. I had the Puffy Fish Tacos and they were incredible! The flour tortillas are thick but puffed up as if the air inside the tortilla had expanded. This place has totally ruined me for all other tacos from now on. Service was great. Food was served very quickly and with a smile. (I think they new I was a rookie there and were looking forward to my reaction).

What is a Puffy Taco?

By Mjones17 |

We decided to try something new while we were in San Antonio. I am so glad we did. We actually ate there two days in a row because it was so good! We had never had a puffy taco and they were delicious! I so wish they had an establishment in Ft. Worth. The wait staff was awesome both days and my husband tipped them a lot more than he usually does :) They had the usual sides of rice and beans but I tell you they were the best rice and beans we have ever had and the main part of the meal was great too! We will definitely go back next time we are in San Antonio!

Just get the puffy taco

By ~Michelle My Belle~ |

Just need to try the puffy taco. It's a thing you do in SA. Henry is famous here, he's the mascot for the restaurant and appears at all the mission games! There not the best but it's a must do here!

Great tacos - don't have those in Houston

By Sylvia G |

The food was delicious and served hot. My friends and I had a wonderful time. The service was awesome, the servers were very friendly and prompt. Will go there again next time we are in San Antonio.

Go for the specialty Puffy Tacos are a must!

By BIG D |

We had a large party and the food, drinks, atmosphere, and staff were all excellent. The place does get a little noisy when full but that is to be expected. Everyone at our table was thrilled with the quality and amount of food in the puffy tacos. One person did order Carne Guisada and although tasty the size of the portion for the price seemed way off. So that being said, my advice is to stick with what put Henry on the map and chose a variety of puffy tacos.

The Best Tortilla Soup in the World

By Dan R |

Henry's serves the best in the world. I know, I've been everywhere in the world. I've been eating there since 1995 and that is the only thing I order.

Love it!!

By pfamily85 |

I must say in all the times I've eaten Mexican food in San Antonio, TX, (and it's been a lot!) I found Henry's to have the absolute best puffy tacos I've had! Great food, service and price. This has become a "best" place to go.

Haven't had tacos until you have Puffy Tacos.

Puffy tacos are a San Antonio thing, Corn tortillas fried until they look like pillows crispy outside and soft inside then filled with your choice of taco fillings. Yum. Don't forget a side of Charro Beans and a Banderita to wash it all down.

good recommendation from hotel front desk

By barbaraFortWorth |

Local restaurant with personality and good food. Enjoyed our drinks and appetizer and meal. Loved the puffy tacos and the variety to select from.Quick and friendly service. Wish they were in Fort Worth.

We had to try it

By ARTHUR K |

It was worth the trip. I has the chicken soup awesome. Tasty flavorful lots of chicken. The wife had 3 puffy tacos. We were glad we drove here. Carnitas was my best spicy chicken, then plain chicken. The chips and salsa was spicy and also very good. We would try again if visiting.

SCREAMING KIDS!

By Texas1980 |

I live close to Henry's Puffy Taco's, and finally convinced my boyfriend to go there with me. I've been there for lunch in the past, and remember having a pleasant visit. Last night, it was full of screaming kids. The wait staff and Manager did not say anything to the handful of kids screaming at the top of their lungs for over thirty minutes. We told the waitress that it was disrupting, and she apologised. We almost cancelled our order, but decided to stick it out, and not go there again. Also, the food is so/so. I felt gross after eating the greasy food, There's much better Mexican food at ChaCha's, Bee's, and El Palomar. Pro: The Puffy Taco mascot is cute, and I love watching him at the Missions games.

Weekend getaway

By Aligg |

We arrived on a Saturday night (7:PM) and it was crowded. Waiting time was supposed to be 30 minutes because there was a party of 20+ people in front of us. In 15 minutes they sat the big party and right after that, all other people waiting were sat quickly, including us. I tried a Michalada and wasn’t happy with the taste. My sister tried a Bloody Mary and that drink was better. I got the Puffy Tacos with ground beef because I’ve been wanting to try them for the longest time and I wasn’t disappointed. Next time I’ll just order the tacos and not the side rice and beans, all you need is the puffy tacos (order of 3) to fill you up.

Delicious San Antonio Tex Mex

By AndrewS_67 |

My wife and I eat at Henry's on occasion and did so last week with family from out of town. The staff was excellent and the food was quite good. If you've never had had a puffy taco, you must try it out with the spicy fajitas...YUM! Eclectic decor and good drinks make for a really good time.

Unique to San Antonio the one and only Puffy Tacos.

By henry and yolan... C |

When you come to San Antonio you have to do four things: 1. Go to have Puffy Tacos at Henry's. 2. Visit all the museums. 3. Take in all the missions including the Alamo. 4. Visit Blue Star art district. So many other things to do plan another vacation to San Antonio.

Sometimes it Pays to Listen to Your Friends

By Doug S |

It's happened to us all, hasn't it? "You're going to XYZ place?" asks friend. "You have to see/eat/touch XYZ thing." In this case, Henry's Puffy Tacos was the XYZ thing. Said friend gushed about 'puffy tacos' (native to San Antonio area, perhaps?). All I can say to her is....keep the recommendations coming. Two of us went to the Express location. Both ordered a burrito (HUGE! we could've split one) and a puffy taco. I loved the burrito (beef with a marinated sauce with gravy...heavy on the gravy, yum!) but the crispy tacos was even better. It was firm, flavorful and the chicken I got was perfectly seasoned. Add some lettuce and tomato for depth and is was truly memorable. Wish I'd eaten there twice!

Long Line but Worth It

By Drew P |

The Puffy Tacos are awesome. Well worth the Trip. We'll put Henry's On the Agenda for the Next Trip to San Antonio.

More Tex than Mex

By pedidoctx |

It is definitely a Tex-Mex flavor. Generous on the cumin and a good deal of fried food. The service is good, the portions are abundant and the menu is ample . Had a fun evening

Cheaply prepared food

By King97 |

I recommend the queso other than that the food is grose. Taco salad had a stale shell. Inside had bagged lettuce and was runny. Puffy tacos are cute but way to expensive for a cheap taco. Fajita meat is nasty. Waitress was super nice.

Blah

By jaba2705 |

My husband and I ordered queso before dinner. It was very bland. The salsa was bland, too. It didn’t have any heat, and I could just taste tomatoes. I like to have cilantro and jalapeños to have more interest in the salsa. My Tex Mex plate was also bland and uninteresting. I was disappointed.

Was A Little Disappointed

By Gdreams |

We were a little disappointed with our puffy tacos, they were average, we have had better tasting tacos in other places such as Seattle, Austin and in our home state of Arizona.

Huge servings, with the burrito being the best.

By Kent P |

Family had lots to eat, but had a long wait to seat 5 adults and 3 little ones. We were told about 15 minutes, but it was closer to 40....normally not a big deal however with a 2 year old and 2 three year old twins all got a bit antsy.

Yum. It's tasty

By David T |

I really like this restaurant. The menu is pretty standard Tex Mex, but the taste is better than most. The enchiladas are great. I like the shrimp tacos a lot. The portions are huge. You definitely get your money's worth here.

Ordinary at Best

By Mona S |

Everyone at our table of 7 ordered something different, and 5 of us thought their dish was no better than ordinary. The puffy tacos were greasy, the burrito bowl was overly salty, the picadillo was mushy, the carne guisada was just OK. The two of us who ordered shrimp dishes (tacos and enchiladas) were happy, though. Maybe I need to focus on the shrimp next time, if there is one. No problem with the service, which was courteous and timely.

Not original

By DKG |

The puffy tacos are a rip off from yucatecan food, the Yucatán peninsula literally invented "Panuchos". The toppings are different from Panuchos but the dough is THE SAME, when I went there this December I was disappointed to find out that you guys have no mention of this in your store, you say it's an original invention but it ain't. Fix this.

Best Puffy Tacos ever!!!

By bluesky2015 |

The moment we land and get our rental car we head to Henry's Puffy taco's Express near St Mary's University. Omg, the picadillo puffy tacos are my favorite not to mention the carne guisada flour tacos. The service is always good and fast. We visit this place basically every single day while we are in San Antonio. Best food ever, fast friendly service.. Amazing delicious food.

A must try

By Maryl42 |

Puffy Tacos are a unique San Antonio tradition. Henry's are delicious and authentic. Enjoy the picado filling on puffy corn tortillas. Not a low calorie dish, but fun to try and enjoy. Only in San Antonio

I can’t love this place any more!

By gruiz1 |

My love for this place runs deep. A great michelada (just change the olives please), great food. The chicken fried chicken, seafood, and the puffy tacos and enchiladas all are awesome! Keep doing what you do! Don’t change a thing!

Deliciously Puffy Paradise

By Dee W |

Henry's Puffy Tacos was a pleasant surprise! Rustic feel, family atmosphere with nice bar area. Service was excellent and attentive to our needs. We had several different items so we could try the variety of dishes. All were tasty, seasoned well with real fresh flower tortillas. Our party of four really enjoyed our dinner, prices were great, food was authentic and great! Stop in and try it!

I always leave here happy!

By hillcountryrambler |

I have been eating at Henrys Puffy Tacos for a little over three years on a regular basis, I've had just about everything on the menu, and I cant say that I have ever had a bad meal, or bad service, nor have I ever waited more than ten minutes for a table, myself, my wife, and my son. I am no food critic but being raised in the texas hill country,, I know good mexican food. Henrys is not meant to be gourmet, or homemade style mexican in my opinion, but it is very good, from chips and salsa to enchiladas, fajitas, and of course puffy tacos, it is fast, a very laid back atmosphere, clean, and its one of our families favorite standbys, anytime we are having trouble deciding where to go, we usually end up at Henrys Puffy Tacos!

Great Puffy Tacos and enchilada sauce is to die for!

By VinceCisme |

Hello being from San Antonio and living in Southern California often gets me dreaming of San Antonio style Mexican food. And one of the several places is Henry's Puffy Taco not only for the amazingly fresh tasting puffy tacos but the tremendous tasting enchiladas sauce. I always get the combo plate which includes both as they are what my dreams are made of. Give it a try you wont be disappointed.

Kid Friendly Restaurant

By JCarrabba |

This is a fun place to go. Grandsons really enjoyed it. It is very family friendly and the food is good. The boys actually ate their puffy tacos. We arrived right before the luncheon menu was to expire. The waiter graciously allowed us to order from the lunch menu. We were a party of eight, so that really helped when the bill came.

Excellent service and food

By disfamof3 |

This was our first time dining here and we had never heard of puffy tacos. The food was delicious and the service was above and beyond. My favorite was the charro beans! I wish we would have had room for dessert but we will be back soon :)

Just not great

By wick1979 |

We are here for lunch today. Good selection on the menu but everything is bland. The puffy tacos were under fried and greasy leaving them grainy. Service was good but that can not make up for the mediocre food.

Very good puffy taco and great salsa

By Steve D |

Not many places serve puffy tacos. It seems to be a San Antonio thing and these are the real deal. Will be back for more...

Yummy puffy taco

By SHANNON M |

We enjoyed the good food and music. I loved the puffy taco. Yum. I cant wait to go back. We went when they opened so the chips were a lil cold but other than that it was perfect

Get the Puffy Tacos!

By riceburnergrace |

My husband and I loved the puffy tacos! I wasn't a big fan of the fajita chicken but the shredded chicken was great. The margarita was fantastic!

A local tex-mex favorite, great food, great margaritas

By Tom from Texas |

I come here regularly for Tex Mex. They have my favorite margarita - the Meltdown, and one of my favorite dishes - the beef fajita enchurito (a large burrito covered in chili sauce). Obviously, they have a wide variety of puffy tacos (corn tortillas fried in a way they puff up). For those not from San Antonio, Henry's is a local institution known for their mascot at the SA Missions baseball team. The restaurant has moved a few times as it has grown more popular. The current location is in a busy area, not real close to tourist destinations.

Beats the hell out of TACO TACO!

By PrimalEater |

Henry has been banging the puffy taco drum for years now and they know a thing or 2 about making delicious puffy tacos. If you want a GOOD REAL PUFFY TACO this is where you want to play ball. There may be some other decent one around SA, but here is your consistency leader, Henrys!

Must do a Puffy Taco at least once

By Lee K |

The puffys are incredible and the burrito's.....it take's 2 hands to try and handle one of those...knife a fork may just be the best bet

Awesome puffy tacos!

By Lisa S |

Friendly servers and great puffy tacos with a nacho bar! Even a few items for a vegetarian. These puffy tacos are really tasty with really fresh ingredients. You could even eat outside which is nice to escape the noise. Came for a late lunch and not too crowded.

Popular Place

By L H |

We decided to have lunch here during the week and although the parking lot is not huge, we were able to find a space. But when we left the lot was pretty full. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered and our waiter, Mike, came quickly with our chips, salsa and teas. They have a good size menu with a variety of choices but double check the prices because we were charged differently than what the menu showed. We ordered the Taco Salad with Shredded chicken and a lunch Cheese Enchilada meal with two ice teas. The bill came to almost $29. Then you add a tip and the price gets up there for lunch for two. The food came timely and it was all very good. All of the wait staff was friendly and prompt. The place filled up quickly so a popular with the locals. We are hardly ever in this area but have gotten a good meal here before and did on this day as well.

First Timers

By albylew |

We didn’t know what to expect, so we asked our waiter Justin. He gave us all the information we needed to make a decision. I ordered 2 puffy tacos, one with ground beef and the other with spicy steak. My wife ordered 3 puffy tacos beef, steak, and chicken. As did my sister in law. The meal came with rice and beans (refried or charro)). We got a lot of food. The beef was good, but I liked the spicy steak the best. We all enjoyed the food. After my sister in laws visit, we’ll probably go there again. Next time we want to try some of the other menu items.

Meh. Better puffy tacos to be had for much less money. Overrated.

By coloradodreamininTX |

The puffy tacos are good. The sangria margarita was awesome, even a bit too strong (I felt tipsy after one and I am no lightweight!) and worth the price. The entire place is overrated, in my opinion. This is San Antonio. Tex-mex restaurants are on every corner... there is no need to pay extra for the same stuff you can get anywhere, and while I know some places can screw up a puffy taco, many other places do it right. Henry's does it right but why pay extra? Plenty of cheaper options in this town, just as good or better.

Yummy!

By Helenlh66 |

We pulled in on a whim because we were hungry and thirsty and it was right in front of us. We'd never even heard of puffy tacos before, so we figured we had to try them. We both had the two-taco plate; mine were both carne guisada and my husband had one of those and one spicy beef. The carne guisada was delicious, and the puffy taco was awesome! Very tasty! My husband said the spicy beef taco was good, but said he should have gotten both carne guisada. We were there on a Saturday for lunch and it was moderately busy, but certainly not slow. They had college football on a big-screen TV. I think we'd go back.

Better than Taco Bell, because the service

By Unknown_hunter |

The service was really good and the food didn’t taste bad but that’s the expectation, I don’t think the climbed above that. Got 2 puffy tacos, chips and queso. The queso was your basic variety found at any Mexican restaurant, the tacos were greasy and the meats were underwhelming. Not a hole-in-the-wall find by any means. But a local chili’s style restaurant.

Overratedllll

By Oly55 |

Margarita was uninspired & the food way over rated. Everything from the chips & salsa to the puffy tacos tasted like a chain restaurant. Service was good though. "

The Environment Either Makes It Or Breaks It For You

By wolfie_n |

I always like to try to the local specialties wherever I go, so when I heard about puffy tacos, I had to try them. It was suggested that I come here, since this is where they were supposedly invented. For those who (like me) hadn’t heard of them before: A puffy taco is like a cross between a soft taco and a hard-shell taco. The uncooked tortilla is deep-fried so that it puffs up. This makes it crispy without being hard. The restaurant is one of those places that has a bar in the center and big-screen TVs all over the place. This makes the atmosphere either good or bad, depending on what you are looking for. With the football games that were being shown while we were there, it made the place feel like a sports pub. Unlike an actual bar though, there were lots of families with small children. As was the case when a previous reviewer was there, many of these small children were screaming. Music was loud. There were a couple of tables of very loud guys that had obviously been drinking. A lot. One of the guys kept getting up and yelling as he walked around the place. Staff acted as though this is a normal occurrence. It made the older people with us feel uncomfortable. It was definitely not a family environment, even though there were families there. I got a puffy taco plate with two tacos, one beef fajita taco and one chicken fajita taco. Others in the group got the picadillo ones. Tacos come with lettuce and tomatoes. You have to pay extra if you want any other toppings. There was too much lettuce for my taste, but it was easy enough to remove what I didn’t want. The tacos were greasy, but that’s to be expected in something that just came of a deep fryer. The meat in the tacos had a good flavor, and I’d recommend the beef fajita tacos over the chicken ones. Everyone that got the picadillo tacos said they were good. Our chips were flavorless and tasted stale, though the salsa had a good flavor. The rice was awful. The flavor was good, but it was much too mushy, as though it had been cooked with too much liquid. Service was adequate. Even though we liked our tacos, we’re not likely to go back because of the environment. If I ever find myself wanting a puffy taco again, I’d most likely try them somewhere else.

Great food

By Susan M |

Henry's is a great place to go to find the old fashioned puffy taco. These are the puffed tacos that are melt in your mouth soft. A wide variety of choices for the tacos as well as enchiladas, tamales etc. Fast service and fun surroundings.

Excellent Puffy Tacos!

By Dave E |

Great food; great puffy tacos! Made fresh to order! Clean restrooms and restaurant. They have been consistent for all the many years that I have been coming here. It is my go-to place!

Good atmosphere, greasy tacos

By Jmc225 |

The restaurant was nicer than I expected. It has a good atmosphere perfect for celebrating someone's birthday or having a drink. We tried the puffy tacos and we were disappointed. Very greasy, and expensive for what you get. The queso, guacamole and beans were great, though. If I come back I'll try a burrito or something different.

Delightful plate of Puffy Tacos but not the very best!

By DrAnju Rahul |

The restaurant is pretty huge and beautiful. We were called sooner than expected to our seats. The service is pleasant and prompt. The Puffy Tacos are okay but not the best as such. The starter set of 3 different sauces were pretty much small for the price! Overall an average place in terms of taste!

90's Club Music?

By April R |

Food was okay, staff was good but the music they played it what got me confused! I have been coming here for years and never once have they played 90's club music. From my understanding this is a Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio; but I also understand their is a mix cultures here in San Antonio so why not play country or even mix it up.. I hope when I go back I dont here 90's club music or hip hop.

Can't wait to go back!

By midwest4 |

Where have you been all of my life? This Chicago girl wants to move to San Antonio for more puffy tacos! I kept hearing about puffy tacos on the food network so I had to go to Henry's Puffy Tacos and try for myself. Wow! First may I say that it is a small place outside of the city center. We went through the drive thru and met the nicest man. He must have thought we were idiots because we could not figure out what we wanted because we were already full from the Farmer's Market in the city center. So we asked the gentleman to recommend two tacos for us. He chose the steak fajita and chicken fajita. All I can say is even though we were full they were the best tacos we ever ate. I think it was the puffy taco and the steak and chicken fajita rather than a standard steak or chicken. Either way it was a piece of heaven and I will definitely be back for more on my next visit. Oh yes there will be a next visit. The gentleman at the drive thru could not have been friendlier. Love this place!

Tacos loaded with meat

By danidb518 |

The chips were horrible, the salsa was ok, drinks were ok, enchilada ice cold but good flavor, beans ok, rice ok, puffy tacos real good and not greasy. The tacos had plenty of meat. Tried a shredded chicken one and a Piccadilly one.

Wonderful Puffy Tacos.

Our first choice was closing (we went there a week later and review is posted) and decided to try here. Got seated and served quickly! Puffy shrimp tacos didn't disappoint! We didn't have room for dessert, but we will be back!

Return visit

By L H |

Had not been here since last year and in the area so stopped in for lunch again. They do require masks in general area but not once seated. The staff wear masks. We were seated immediately and place was busy. They have plexi-glass up on backs of booths although some tables only about 3' from booths. We were not waited on very quickly. We asked for paper menus but were brought regular plastic menus and one was dirty. We were brought a large basket of fresh chips and a bowl of salsa which had a little "bite" to it and was flavorful. The waitress mentioned the three lunch specials (three puffy taco plate, one cheese enchilada with one puffy taco plate and a two cheese enchilada plate). We did not notice any lunch menu in the main menu. Both of us ordered the two cheese enchilada plate which came with refried beans and rice. We thought ordering the lunch special would have been faster but it took about 20 min. to get the food served. It was a generous portion and one thought it was okay tasting and the other enjoyed it. The one that enjoyed it thought it was a perfect amount of cheese topping and the carne asada type gravy/sauce was nice flavor. The one that didn't care for it thought the plate had sat around too long before being served and the tortilla were dry in portions and the plate was cooled down. The pricing for lunch was $9.99 a plate and I asked what the dinner price was and the waitress indicated it was $10.99 so not much of a savings. I would have preferred a smaller plate and better price as neither of us were able to finish the serving. They have large to go cups which we appreciated. When we asked for leftover container the waitress brought them but she was holding the inside portion against her clothing when she carried them to us. We only used the one not held up to her body. The tables were being cleared, sprayed and wiped down between customers.

Nothing Special - Passable Mexican Food at Best

By mike53226 |

After reading all the good reviews, had dinner there recently with my family. It was truly nothing special. The puffy tacos were soggy and the food cold. Several food mix-ups were fixed once I could get the server's attention. Overall, service was terrible, inattentive and rarely came around despite all the servers chatting away by the door. Not worth the drive, take a pass. Go to La Margarita instead - you won't be disappointed.

Delicious Tex-Mex

By Imeldita22 |

This serves great food. Portion is pretty big, so come with an empty stomach. I recommend the Grilled Chicken Chipotle, it's wonderful ! Service is fast, I come here during lunch hour at work and never had to wait too long. The refried beans are wonderful and the salsa ... well, I think is pretty hot. The Enchiladas Verdes are my favorite, the corn tortillas are homemade and stuffed with lots of shredded chicken. I highly recommend this place! (and not expensive at all)

After 35 yrs I decided to try Henry's and I had horrible food, but will try again since there are many good reviews.

By Mare1599 |

I will start out with my positive experience at Henry's. The salsa, charra beans and cilantro/chipotle mayo were all FANTASTIC! I had the Shrimp Tacos - one puffy and one flour tortilla, both were horrible. The shrimp did not taste fresh - I couldn't eat the tacos at all and I could actually smell and taste the grease on the puffy taco, but the puffy taco was not greasy to the touch. The refried beans were just okay. The cheese queso was only warm and starting to solidify on the top. The chips were a bit stale - hard to chew. Our waitress didn't act like she wanted to be there and would ask how we were doing as she walked by...no stopping. I started to tell her about the food, but she was gone.

Nothing special... skip

By gloopy21 |

San Antonio calls itself the birthplace of the puffy taco. As claimant to “Home of the original PUFFY TACOS in San Antonio ” (see www.henryspuffytacos.com) I would expect Henry's Puffy Tacos to honor it's namesake and offer soul-changing puffy taste. Indeed, a sign outside Henry's encourages you to “catch the puffy addiction” as illustrated in metaphor by a hungry man chasing a puffy taco. Sadly Henry's disappointed with sub-par tacos, chips, drinks and service! I ordered a bean/cheese taco and a shredded chicken taco. My wife ordered shredded chicken and beef fajita tacos (the last marked with a chili pepper on the description to denote its spicy nature). The bean/cheese tasted as expected. The shredded chicken lacked a distinct flavor and my wife failed to find the promised spice in the beef fajita. The tacos were otherwise puffed to standard. More disappointing were the tortilla chips—the opening salvo and first impression at almost any Mexican restaurant. They were simply chewy from insufficient cooking. Moreover, the server poured salsa refills from a larger version of the carafe IHOP uses to dispense syrup. It was efficient, but off-putting. While I found the service friendly, the server's timing injured the meal's pleasure. Entrees arrived in less than 5 minutes after the appetizer, forcing a difficult choice between completing the queso dip and starting on the tacos. Had I only known how bland the tacos would be, the dilemma would have resolved itself. My wife also ordered a margarita. She strongly suspected the application of lime-flavored salt as a lazy alternative to lime juice and salt. Don't go to Henry's. San Antonio offers a couple hundred other Mexican restaurants, many with better flavors and service.

Very nice visit

By Davin D |

Pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the food. The chips and salsa was very good and had just enough spice!

Glad We Discoverd This Place

By Cindy F |

I have never had puffy tacos before and, in fact, had never heard of them until this place was recommended to us by a hometown friend. When we got to San Antonio for a get-away, it was first on my list of places to eat. I LOVED the puffy taco. The flavor was outstanding. It doesn't break into a million pieces like hard tacos but it does have a "crunch" to it. I was afraid it would get soggy as some tacos do, but it did not. The black beans were good and they serve authentic Mexican rice (not Tex-mex rice) which I love. The 2 types of salsa: hot and cold, were both very good. I was not really fond of their chips, though. They were a little thick and tough. I also wasn't a great fan of their margarita but the food was great and I would definitely eat there again.

Best Tacos ever.

By ne4now |

So glad we stopped here for dinner. I tried a shredded chicken & a ground beef puffy tacos with cheese, guacamole & sour cream and a side of rice and charra beans. It was delicious and I couldn’t finish it. My wife got the chicken fajita puffy tacos and even tho she loved them, could only finish 1. The food was fantastic, the service was great and the kitchen was fast. As for prices, our meals were under $12ea, my kids meal was $5 and all were worth every penny. The large margaritas are big and were $13ea but they were great too. If you are visiting SanAntonio, try this place!

Large and over the top

By MaeH4 |

Got a recommendation from a friend to try this place, so we did. We ordered lots of samples...3 puffy taco varieties, burrito bowl, taco salad, burrito/enchilada baby, chips/salsa and queso. OMG!!!! When my hubby brought home the food, I thought he must be feeding us for a week. The taco salad was so large. Tasty good too. The baby...that was for sure at least 3/5 lbs of goodness. I liked the puffy tacos very much. The quest was good, but I could do with out the salsa. Not my fave at all. I think eating at the restaurant would be better, but with the virus keeping us all home, it was still good none the less. Will definitely eat there again.

Not as good as before

By barry b |

We stopped in here to grab some of their famous Puffy tacos which are usually excellent. On this Friday they were not so good, they were dry and lacked the normal flavor?

Puffy Tacos

By vaceodude |

Puffy Tacos are one of the most delicious entries in Mexican Cuisine. Harry's are excellent. I had the spicy chicken and spicy beef. Both were outstanding but I would get the beef next time. You have to order cheese and guac separately to add to the taco. I also found the beans to be better than most restaurants. I didn't try the refried beans. In addition, the sopaipilla were to die for. They were thin and puffy and delicious. I had the honey on the side and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top. 86 the powder sugar, it just makes them too sweet.

Yummy!!

Great food and customer service! We have dined in and called in order for pick up,either way quality of the food was always good!

Loved it

By akapa |

We are moving to San Antonio and tried Puffy Tacos for the first time. What an experience! We tried four different kinds, with different meats, and they were all excellent. I also really like the hearty chips, but salsa was just ok. Margaritas were alright. We are looking forward to going back!
