My wife and I don't drink alcohol and we don't eat oysters or caviar. So what we doing at Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar in Chicago's Ukrainian Village/Humboldt Park neighborhood? Here is a chic European restaurant that advertises that it's highlights are vodka and caviar. We were reluctant at first. But friends insisted we would enjoy ourselves just the same. And they were right on. Located at 2700 West Chicago Avenue, at Washtenaw, it is open from 4 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 4 to 10 on Friday, noon to 10 on Saturday and noon to 8 on Sunday. We started with the chef's choice cheese and charcuterie board featuring Braunschweiger, elk and venison summer sausage, duck liver mousse, sauerkraut, stone ground mustard, Hook's cheddar cheese, blue cheese, pickled feta, pickled ramps and marinated olives. A delicious assortment. For an entree, my wife chose Iron Skillet Halibut with lobster sauce, fried kale and cherry tomato. I couldn't resist the wood grilled BBQ baby back ribs with whipped potato and truffle and pimento creamed spinach. Don't skip dessert. We shared black forest cake with white chocolate ginger ice cream and lemon curd tart with salted triple chocolate ice cream. I've never tasted caviar but it couldn't taste any better than those desserts. Three cheers for the pastry chef.

We were recommended to visit this restaurant from a local store employee. It's was a little out of the way from where we were staying, but worth the Uber trip! Every single item we tasted was absolutely fabulous - from the cocktails, to the oysters, to the the caviar and the entrees. The attention to detail here is evident - the tableware, the glassware, the plating, even the rest rooms and the soap! We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it. Can't' wait to return to Chicago to visit again and try some of the other many choices on the menu.

We happened upon Heritage with no expectations and were blown away! One of the owners, Jan, greeted us and explained the eclectic menu in detail! The Caviar was excellent but the true show stopper was the whole roasted chicken with buckwheat stuffing. Chef visited our table and the host was very engaging throughout the meal. We could not have been more pleased with the overall experience. Do yourself a favor and check out Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar!

This was a first time caviar experience for my wife. The waitress was extremely helpful in picking choices of caviar that do not have a strong fish taste. This is good for a first timer. We also had the Yuhkoe. It was ana deventure in new tastes for both of us as we have never had anything served with sesame leaves as the wrap. It was a peppe, licorice flaver. The main course was for my wife was Million Dollar Noodles and I had the schnitzel. Desert was a creme brule. All the food was excellently prepared and delicious. We will definitely return.

Been here many times, as Its just around the corner from my apt. The have unique dishes, some are worth trying. Good European wine selection. Their oyster happy hour is great!!

What an incredible dining experience! Not only was the caviar selection excellent, but their food options were also quite extensive. And the adult beverages were also incredibly good! Our server, Melody, made our dinner even more special. Fantastic service! She new her caviar well, we described what we wanted, and asked her to select for us, and she was spot on with each serving (we had a few). She also had perfect suggestion for cocktails. Melody turned dinner into a culinary experience that we will always remember. We at on the outside patio and it was very enjoyable. Thank you Heritage for the great food, amazing caviar choices, fantastic drinks (with very unique names I must add), and mostly for having outstanding service that made this a most enjoyable dinner. OH...we also met another server who just got off work and stopped by to chat with us. AND another server who was on duty also stopped by to greet and welcome us, before and after our meal. Even though your food and beverage was awesome, your staff made it special. Only a few minutes and a few dollars Uber ride from downtown Chicago, very much worth making a visit to Heritage.

From the first cocktail to the desert, my two visits to Heritage when in Chicago were both perfect. The staff is young, energetic, knowledgeable and fun! Everything that I tasted was a treat. Best oyster shuckers in town! Shaw's good learn a thing, or two, from this restaurant when it comes to being a fun yet exquisite eating experience. I will definitely return when back in Chicago.....

In a city for foodies, this is a fabulous restaurant!! The variety of seafood plates and the deliciousness of each plate is awesome! The choices offer something for each palate! Dine here!

We dined on a Tuesday several days after the restaurant first opened and had delicious meal. Started outside at the tables on the sidewalk of the side street and didn't notice the traffic. Moved inside for the main course into a storefront sized dinning room and bar. The ambiance is nice and the sound level was fine, although the restaurant was only half full. Our sever was quite knowledgeable and took us through the menu answering questions readily. Extensive selection of caviars (including some unusual ones like smail ), with a full complement of accompaniments. Moved onto an oyster course from the raw bar. Nice selection of wines including some lesser known varietals. It is a little far from downtown, but we thought it was well worth the trip. Caviar is expensive anywhere, so plan accordingly, otherwise fair prices.

If you’re looking for something delicious and a bit out of the ordinary, Heritage delivers. Amazing quality, fresh ingredients and everything, including the bread, is made from scratch in-house. And the flavors are inspired. Fabulous owners and staff will give you a wonderful experience. Pricing is excellent for the quality. It’s worth traveling to. And we frequently do.

This place is the place to go for a caviar tasting. The options are great and a lot to choose from, the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Very unique eclectic menu that has something for everyone and a very nice happy hour. I should have taken more photos.

We eat here as often as we can, the food is always good and the service friendly. The oysters are consistently top notch, the meats excellent and the baked goods are phenomenal. The selection of caviars and roes are always presented with lovely accompaniments and the cocktails are flavorful. Highly recommended for dinner or brunch.

Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar is one of the most unique dining options in Chicago. I have to confess that I'm extremely biased because Guy Meikle, the chef/owner, was one of my students in culinary school (so was Alan Krueger, the pastry chef/baker). That said, the concept, the menu, the space, and the overall experience are truly unique in a city that's recognized as one of the top food destinations in the country. For one thing, they serve breakfast, lunch (brunch on weekends in lieu of breakfast and lunch), happy hour, and dinner every day. Not many restaurants are as committed to being both a neighborhood place and destination dining as Heritage. The menu reflects Guy's roots, his professional experiences, and an innate understanding of meaningful ingredient and flavor combinations. The staff is top-notch, and their understanding of the food and beverages contributes significantly to the dining experience. The decor is spectacular and includes a number of items with a personal connection to Guy and his family. The recognition and accolades that Heritage has realized over the past five weeks are well deserved. Whether you live in the area or are just visiting Chicago, a stop at Heritage will be time well spent.

Heritage isn't good - it's AMAZING. I adore caviar, so obviously I had to try it as soon as it opened. And yes, the caviar was fantastic (I am partial to osetra, but they have all sorts). But the smoked fish pate was fantastic. The khajapuri is the fantastic. The pelmeni, which aren't traditional at all, were fantastic. I loved it all and have been back twice since. As a Chicagoan who dines out a lot, I find the prices very reasonable, if not kinda low for the quality. I can't wait to go there for breakfast. No, it's not walkable from downtown, but that's because it's not for tourists - this is a restaurant for locals, by locals who clearly wanted to start this restaurant as a labor of love in a historically Ukranian area. Please, make the effort to get out of touristville and try this and other great local restaurants. It's just a short Uber/taxi ride from downtown, and absolutely worth it to try a unique neighborhood restaurant.
Highly Recommended
Great service and wonderful food. Oysters, smoked fish, caviars, burgers, pickles and the most amazing baked goods. Such an eclectic menu and concept, this place is quite the find. Wonderful servers, nice drink selection. The rye bread was so good we bought a loaf to take home and I thought I didn't like rye bread!! Recommended.
