Lovely, festive environment. Warm chips and quick staff, good prices. The chili was amazing and the tortillas somehow stayed firm under the enchilada sauces. Definitely recommend!

Large selection of items and so it was hard it pick. Great flavors and large portions. The service was quick and would eat here again. Not much for atmosphere but tasty enough you get over it!

I love Herrera's! If you want reliable tasty Tex-Mex you can not go wrong at Herrera's! I have been a customer for over 30 years; don't get to visit as often as I'd like as I live in Irving and it's not always convenient but, when in the neighborhood I always stop in for a meal and love to take out of towners there for what I know won't ever be a disappointment! We'd love to have a southwest Irving location!! HINT.

I love there new location! They moved from the Maple Ave. Location to 3311 Sylvan Ave. Beautiful Patio!!

We have been going to this location off and on for over 30 years. The food is still the same consistant Tex-Mex as always. the complimentary bean soup is a nice touch. Ask for Caesar if you go, he is a great waiter and has been there as long as we've been eating there.

You gotta get here. Food and service is awesome. Price is reasonable and a new building is on its way. If you want to go to the original you gotta come on.

For years I have heard people talk about this place. Went with high expectations...left a little disappointed. Had the beef enchiladas which were good...not great. Best thing was the salsa.

We had the mixed fajitas and they were beautiful:)

My favorite lunch stop on Maple Ave, Herrera's has a full house everyday but they always seem to find room for another table. The service is excellent, the chips and salsa hit the table before your butt hits the chair sometimes. If you order the Jessica's plate, you will be in for a treat. Spicy salsa, tasty enchilada, rice, beans and a taco to boot.

PROS *I’m not a big sour cream fan, but I liked the sour cream enchiladas. *Service was fast. *Salsa was spicy. CONS *I read Herrera’s sour cream enchiladas have a ”cult-like following.” Not sure why. They’re good but not great. *Sour cream enchiladas aren’t part of $6 enchiladas special on Wednesdays. *There are too many Mexican restaurants in Dallas to be paying $12 for a two-enchilada plate.

I have been going to Herrera's for 30+ years. My last meal on earth would have to be Herrera's bean soup, chips and salsa, and a 2B. Heavenly.

For a reliable, authentic tex-mex experience, Herrera's is the place to go. Menu is large, everything is freshly prepared and service is outstanding.

some of the best Tex-Mex in town, not fancy, good service, hard to beat

Started going to Herrera's in 1984 - at the old location that burned down. The 'new" (~1990) restaurant has cheap, sloppy, classic enchiladas with red, tamales, tacos, rice & beans. The staff is kind, but don't expect much chit-chat: they rarely have English as a 1st language. The salsa is a classic fire-roasted wonderful - not chunky - but fantastic blend of jalapenos, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro. A mixed large plate will set you back a whopping $9 - with fresh hot chips and unlimited salsa. BYOB only! Note: no frills = silverware wrapped in a paper napkin; booths of red vinyl.

Written up in National Geographic for the GOOD food. One of the best Tex-Mex restaurants anywhere. A gold standard for that we compare all similar others to and the others always disappoint. Bean soup is always good and the plain old cheese enchilians are a true standby. It does not get any better than this.

Location on Maple moved. Now is a hard to find location near Elliotts Hardware. Not what it used to be. New place is like a bowling alley - tables too far apart and dimly lit, ZERO ambiance. At lunch, clearly a blue collar crowd now with very cheap prices and quality wasn't there.

Not the kind of Mexican I have ever been to. Computer people may like it. Modern and clean. But no taco salad. Tacos had no lettuce or tomatoes in them. Very spicy hot( and I like spicy) but in my opinion not very authentic. Will not recommend nor return. Waitress was nice.

If you’re looking to venture out for dinning, and want to experience some of the local Texan ambiance. I highly recommend “HERRERA’S CAFÉ” located at 4024 Maple Ave. in Dallas. HERREA’S is authentic Mexican cuisine. The food is priced really reasonable and so good you can’t stop eating.

My co-workers and I went to Herrera's for lunch. There is always seating, and the waiters are ready to take your order. The food comes out quick as well. I ordered the chicken fluatas (Nina's plater). The fluatas are very large. This dish comes with beans, guac, sour cream, cheese and a bean soup. I really liked the soup. I had to take a to-go box with me. I would recommend this place if you need a Mexican food fix.

Chips and chalupas were too hard and thick; chips were not hot. The beans were good, but that is about all and no choice but an enormous soft drink glass. We had chalupas and sour cream chicken enchiladas. The guacamole was okay, but the beef on the chalupa was not good at all. Won't return.

I ate there for the first time in summer of 1978 at the old hole in the wall. I have gone to all the branches, still like the one on Maple. BYOB at Maple location. If you are from out of town, you must go to this place. I have been served by three generations of their family and they all have been very hospitable. This is not a fancy place but this is real Tex Mex. Period. Sauce is very hot!

Herrera's is one of the top 5 Tex-Mex restaurnats in Dallas. The chips and salsa are generally considered some of the best in Dallas. The ground taco meat in their tacos is some of the best as far as your standard crispy taco goes. My favorite combo is: Sarah's Combo!

We went to celebrate my best friends birthday. The margarita, 3 different kinds tasted as if they had chemicals in them and had to be sent back by all three people that bought the, The food was plentiful and the bean soup which was just what I make at homes as reds was seasoned well and the enchildas were ok. I will not go again but it is a favortie of my friends except for the disappointment in the drinks

If Hilary Clinton ate here, it must be good. this is such a dive of a restaurant it's hard to believe politicos would eat here. But the food is scrumptious!

We have been eating here since the 1980's. All I can say is "yummy". Gr8 food. Gr8 service. We always get the 2B. Tacos r the best around. Highly suggest.

Excellent Tex -Mex food. Several Dallas locations - Maple Ave has great food and good service. The Denton Drive location is more kid friendly. Still great food -- especially the complimentary bean soup!

I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years. it started as a little small 10 table café. you walked in and you could actually watch the family preparing all the food, from the tortilla chips to the tamales and enchiladas. This café was so good the line would be out the door and people would wait to eat. we loved this place, eve when they expanded to a much larger restaurant. I don't live in Dallas anymore but every year that I get to go home I always stop by to eat with all my friends. The best salsa. the best guacamole you could eat. ya gotta stop by

Herrera's Cafe (not to be confused with the tourist-oriented Cafe Herrera in the Omni Hotel) was a Dallas institution on Maple Avenue (at three different addresses) from circa 1971 until about 2015 when it moved to across the Trinity to 3311 Sylvan Avenue, Dallas, TX 75212 where it carries on a great tradition. Sure wish TripAdvisors would update the address. Anyway, this is the Herrera's Cafe that was visited by Presidents and celebrities alike with good reason: the food is simple classic Tex-Mex, not some pretender for the tourists. Hopefully the family will carry on the tradition for another 45 years.

There are a lot of good Tex-Mex restaurants in the Dallas area and Herrera's is certainly one of them. The restaurant has been very popular with the locals for many years and they've recently moved into their new location on Maple Avenue directly across the street from the 4001 location. The enchiladas are very good (both the beef and the chicken with sour cream) and the salsa is tasty and spicy. The beef tacos were also good but a bit too greasy. The staff was VERY friendly and we were made to feel like welcomed guests. The restaurant is family friendly and the menu is inexpensive. I have a few favorite Tex-Mex restaurants around DFW and Herrera's definitely rates in my top 5. If you've never been there it's worth checking out.

If you like your salsa hot and your margaritas cold, this is the place! Best chips and salsa in town. My fave is the chalupas, but cheese enchiladas a close second.

From the days at the little adobe house on Maple to today, this restaurants food has mainly been a consistent force of Dallas style Tex Mex. The only change for the worse seems to be the flour tortillas unfortunately are not what they used to be. Things you have to know about this spot. Never confuse it with any restaurant called Cafe Herrera's. Those are some other imitation, maybe distantly related people who use this twist on the restaurant name. Herrera's Cafe is the one you want. The breakfast options are all incredible and true representation of what a Tex Mex breakfast should be. For lunch and dinner, they serve the greatest cheese enchilada in Dallas area. Hot sauce and chips are tops. Their Guac is always great. Their sour cream chicken enchilada, best in Dallas. Not known for great fajitas. In fact years ago they had a sign on the door that said we do not sell fajitas. They may not admit that now but it's true and I thought it was classic. Fajitas were not part of classic Dallas Tex Mex offerings. Best Caldo in the city, period. Friday at lunch only, caldo con pollo. Monday only at lunch, caldo de res. Incredible broth, heaped with cabbage, carrots, squash a potato, and other fresh veg. Served with their wonderful rice and lemon wedge. I always get dark meat on the chicken. Now you know what to do if you go. Old faithful following and quite busy so be early.

Like this place for good Mex. Great Burritos with Guiso meat. But this time, the service was horrible. She brought us Queso dip and we had to ask for chips for the queso several times. Server was bad all night. She just sat in her corner booth and ate. Other people had to help us. Made for a bad night

I had the chicken Fajitas, but everything looked really good. Portion sizes were generous, quality was high, and things were not overpriced. Recommended. I would definitely return.

They use soggy, boiled chicken if you order anything with chicken in it. The soft-taco tortillas were dripping with grease. Their prices are a little high for the type of establishment--a bare-bones, 60's-style cafe with no ambience. I guess it's because they're so close to Oak Lawn and Uptown, and they feel the clientele can afford it. We'll never go back.

When I am downtown, Herrera's is always a great place to stop for a meal. The food is excellent, better than any of the chain restaurants listed above. The food is freshly prepared and tasty. I usually have a named combination. The bean soup that they serve with any entree during the dinner hours is superb. The portions are generous but not over sized as in most Tex-Mex establishments. The only criticism is that their margaritas are way over priced and not that special. However, if you are after great food at a reasonable price, stop a Herrera's for meal. I am sure you will return again and again.

All around OK Tex-Mex...for Dallas. I was however - AWESTRUCK - by the complimentary bowl of beans they give you as you're seated. Some of the best beans I have ever eaten. I asked what the secret was...and the guy said: "hey, they're just beans and water"...must be magic water.

Know that the restaurant has moved to a new location. It is now on Sylvan south of the river. But accept no substitute as this is the original and historic Herrera's. Now in it's 4th location this family run Tex Mex Cafe is likely the best in North Texas. Great enchiladas, great guac and chips and hot sauce are not for the feint of heart. Best time to go is Friday for lunch as they serve up caldo de pollo. Lunch on Monday is caldo de res. They are the best in the city. Only rival is Tipico's on NW Highway. The breakfast dishes are great. One of the best huevos el Mexicana in the city.

The service is pretty good. It is fast and the employees are friendly. The food is pretty tasty, but the soup is not my favorite for some reason.

Just had lunch. We love this place so this is a disappointing review. My husband ordered a chicken salad he was served a steak salad when it was returned it was burnt chicken. He had to watch all of us eat our meals and his meal was not edible. The owner said that they would give a 50% discount but in our opinion that was not acceptable customer service. Inedible food arriving after your entire family is done eating does not constitute 50% of anything. He will not be returning and therefore we will not be returning.

I rate every Mexican restaurant by it's cheese enchiladas! These are WONDERFUL!

Nothing special going on here. Friendly place, good value, just not memorable as far as the food goes. Not much more I can say.

Whether you're going for lunch or dinner, Herrera's Cafe still serves some of the best mexican food in town. At it's third location on Maple Avenue, with an extensive bar and a healthy selection of tables the service is excellent and the value is still outstanding. We ate lunch at about 4 in the afternoon and the place was predictably almost empty - but by the time 5pm rolled around, folks were starting to come into the bar. I can heartily recommend the Jimmy's Special if you're really hungry and the Mexican Dinner #1 if you've a bit of a lighter appetite. Chips are always fresh, salsa is always hot.

As a Dallas native and Mexican food lover, I am very surprised that Herrera's is ranked so high on tripadvisor. They serve basic Mexican food and have a pretty large menu, but the food is unremarkable. I'm not saying that it is bad. It is not. It is okay, but certainly no where near the best Mexican in Dallas. Try Mia's or Avila's. They are both much better.

I’m a foodie and this place is delicious. Their enchiladas and bean soup are a must. Great ambience and margaritas.

The restaurant outside of the Mockingbird Station is great for Drinks but the food is somewhat less than average. I had the Lucio's Carne Asada and the meat was tough not cooked correctly and the sides included ricew with little flavor and beans that were very dry and seemed old by comparison to the meal, some lettuce with grated cheese, no sour cream, Pico de Gallo or guacamole. I am from the Houston area and these sides are standard on any plate at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The other folks at our table had issues with oversalted food, late service or protions that were undersized... As I said the margarita's were good, a bit strong and beer is beer, serve it cold and it is a winner. I would look elsewhere for food in any event.

Enjoyed the original Herrera's on Maple many times over the years so was a bit reluctant to try the "new and improved" location. I'm glad we did. It was well worth the trip over to Sylvan. The chicken on both the enchiladas and the soft tacos was prepared just right. Wife and I were both very happy with our selections. It was a nice evening so we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed ourselves. Will return when back in this part of Dallas.

Been coming for years on maple ave. now in 3rd location. The 2b is to die for. Just great family Mexican food. Do not miss if in Dfw area.

Not my fav

Visited on 13 November 2011 at approximately 1800. Reviewed their original Maple Ave location, but since they moved in April 2011, I think another a review would be appropriate. It is located on the opposite side of Maple Avenue a few hundred yards --- of their original location. There does not appear to be as much parking, but it was not an issue during my visit. Ordered a #1. Portion was large, so I could not eat everything served to me. Food was hot and fresh, and it appeared they were using quality ingredients. Menu and prices do not look like they have changed. The building looks brand new, and they have invested in some interior decorating. Now, it looks more like a stereotypical Mexican themed restaurant, but that adds to its charm. There old location had the appearance of a generic truck stop diner. During my visit, the other customers included a large group of 15+ and couples. As before, it is very casual—jeans, t-shirts, shorts, etc. The immediate neighborhood appears to be improving with new office developments and road construction.

Situated right next door to the Omni, we walked to Herrera's for Supper. The staff were all super nice. My son and I ate Shrimp fajitas and my daughter had cheese enchiladas. The food was very tasty. They have a large bar and TV's for sports, which we watched the Rangers game. Enjoyed!!

This restaurant used to be in a hidden location at the Denton Rd cutoff, but is now on sylvan ave and makes it more visible and accessible. The menu has a large selection of Mexican dishes. The food is very delicious and service is excellent . There is also a smaller location on Illinois ave. The food is equally as delicious and owned by the same family. If you like Mexican food you have to try either location.

We were visiting in Dallas and really wanted good food. We asked a young Latina gal and she recommended Herrera's. The place is dark inside but very popular with lunchtime diners. Coming from the Midwest--but formerly from Southern CA. we know and appreciate good Mexican food--especially the rice and beans which should NOT taste of cans ! Theirs were very good as was the rest of the food. Good quality for a good price.

Looks like a total "hole-in-the-wall", but the food is great! Salsa is hott!

I would look at the menu while eating my bean soup, crunching on some chips dotted with a little butter and dipped in perfect hot sauce and say 2B or not 2B. That is the question. :) If I was really hungry it would be Jimmy's Special. Oh and that National Geographic magazine cover they had on their menu. The scuba diver is John Cannon. He was my instructor back in 1992.

Huge disappointment compared to the old location in Denton Drive. Plain old Tex Mex with none of the taste of their former restaurants.

The food is so good and very authentic. the folks there are very nice and make you feel right at home. This restaurant has been around over 40 yrs. and I have always been there for when they were pushed out of locations and had to start over at new locations. Just love this place

My favorite hole-in-the wall Mexican food.

We hadn't been there in a few months and brought all our "fixins" for several different types of adult beverages, only to be told they got their liquor license three months ago! They sell beer, wine and margaritas, which were watered down and not all that great. Too bad, because the food is fabulous so it would be nice if they had some good drinks to go with it or allow you to bring your own!

I have been going to Herrera's since 1973 when it was a little pink cinderblock affair. Then it moved across Maple Avenue to its longstanding location, then it moved earlier in 2011 back across the street. It finally has a BAR, but the outstanding Tex-Mex is just as good as it has always been. But the decor is nicer! The tables have photos of all the regular who made this place a Dallas/Oak Lawn institution for so many years. My personal favorite is the Number 2C, two beef enchiladas, rice, frijoles, and a taco, but you really can't go wrong here. Warning for Yanks, the hot sauce is HOT! So I usually order a large guacamole to help cool things down. Then I diet. Later.

This is a lively place to stop - we went for lunch. I had a margarita, which was very good, but I've never seen a margarita of that color before. I had the chicken tacos which were fresh. We were told that the bean soup is amazing, but it was only available at dinner, so we didn't get to try it.

Love this place! I love hot and spicy salsa, and 99% of places I've been to are afraid to serve it.... not Herrera's! Main dishes are good too! But give me the salsa and chips and I'm happy!

Ventured out to Sylvan Ave to try a new to us Tex-Mex place and it did not disappoint. Cheese enchiladas were terrific and probably had the best beef taco that was crunchy and did not break apart on the first bite. The rice was good could use a little more flavor(cumin or salt) and the refried beans were excellent. The complimentary bean soup after 6 was tasty. Margarita was good and priced well. Tamale was ok but not to my personal preference, it was beer I prefer pork. Soft cheese tacos are good too! Definitely will be on the list to recommend and go back to.

I loved the Denton Dr. location when i lived in Dallas. So, I gave this one a shot while traveling to Dallas recently. I ordered the 13B (beef enchiladas)...they ain't what they used to be. It was ok but I was very disappointed...especially in the salsa which was the best in Dallas. The service was fast and friendly, the value is ok.

I love Herrera's. I go to the one in Carrollton. I split the chicken fajitas for 2 or 3 people, and it's plenty for a total of $13. It was so sad to hear about Mike, the owner, and how he died. And the bean soup is the best. Make sure you get it when you order an entree. It's free. -Scott

Ate here a dozen years ago and still dream of the day to return for their bean soup! It was just a little hole in the wall tex mex joint but I long to return!

I had loved eating at Herrera’s in the 70’s! Back then it was a tiny place and BYOB. You had to wait outside to get in. It moved, so I thought it was gone (I no longer live in Dallas). Found it again and the food is still wonderful! Many great magazine endorsements as you walk in. Great patio, nice interior. Huge servings from an extensive menu! Great margaritas and a full bar. We had to wait about 10 minutes, but at least it was indoors, and not like the old days. Much larger facility. Speedy service with attentive wait staff. Everything was great and moderately priced. Social distancing and mask enforced until you get to your table.

I've been eating at Herrera's for almost 25 years and still love it and crave it. Dallas has a thousand Mexican restaurants, but their hot sauce is the best, and this is real, down home cooking. Nothing fancy, but if you want the quintessential Tex-Mex meal, look no further than the Herrera's #1 dinner. By the way, they have about five locations in Dallas and they're all good. Just find the closest one and go.

I have been going to Herrera's ever since I got out of college and it was a little pink-concrete-brick shack with no bar. It has moved twice since then and now has a nice, attractive, much larger restaurant with a bar. The tables all have glass tops with photos of the many longtime customers eating at the second location before it moved. Even though I now live elsewhere, I go to Herrera's at last once every time I go to Dallas--that is non-negotiable! I love the 2C on the menu, two enchiladas, rice and beans, and a taco, but I usually get a big double dip of their creamy, always-fresh guacamole to go with. The hot sauce here is hot! No namby-pamby Northerner salsa. But whatever you order, you can scarcely go wrong!

Herrera's has moved to a new location (4024 Maple Ave) just across the street from the original location. The place has a full bar now, so no more BYOB. Hererra's serves some of the best Tex-Mex in town (just read the reviews posted near the front door)! Sorry, Dallas, there's no valet parking here; just great, fresh Tex-Mex.

I've visited various "high end" Mexican restaurants while in Dallas, and none of them live up to the "Mexican Cuisine" slogan, all they do is give you fancy ingredients no-one's heard of and price everything over $20 a plate. Herrera's is NOT pretentious food, it's cheap Mexican food made the right way, served by real people, not monkeys in suits; All this, along good music and hard drinks (not all Mexican restaurants have an alcohol license). The pictures on the wall (some from National Geographic, and various VIPs) don't impress me much, but DAMN! they've the best bean soup for you to snack on with your tortilla chips. Just please, leave your frou-frou stuff at the door.

Perfect!! I first was introduced to Herrera's when I was seven years old when it was a small kitchen on Maple where me and my family would sit outside and wait to get one of the five tables inside. As time went on other Herrera's restaurants were opened and I finally settled in to the location on Denton Drive. After this location closed I was devastated because I felt like I would never experience The taste of The Original Herrera's again until years later riding down Sylvan I noticed this location and was overjoyed. I walk in and the staff is the awesome ,welcomes me and makes me feel at home plus allows me to sit myself. Luckily for me its happy hour time so I have a margarita , chips and salsa and I am immediately satisfied. Once I start to view the menu I realize Hey is this my Original Herrerra's that I have longed for for the last two years??? YES it is , I have my same order 2C ,and its Delicious!! Thank you Herrera's for all the awesome memories and the delicious food. You have made a regular customer of over 40 years Happy!

The food was excellent and the service okay. They were so busy - we did not get chips and salsa - we sat at the bar with several others and it was okay.

I haven't been to Herrera's in years. We went with family. My daughter in law said the margarita is good. We all like their bean soup; it has good flavor. Their salsa is inedibly too hot. We ordered milder salsa & they said they don't have any milder salsa. I ordered the Jessica: one cheese enchilada, one beef taco, rice & beans. I asked for a deep fried taco instead, but it came regular. My husband's plate was cold. We were disapointed. I miss the old Herrera's down the street. And parking is a huge problem. We won't be back.

Good quality for Dallas. Great choices for platters.

That's all there is for me, the food is not to my liking, but many do like it. But the bean soup cannot be beat!

Great Tex mex, friendly service, tasty Margs, and best sopapillias on the planet...period. Worth the drive, even if from Marfa, TX. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like the place. Al Fresco dining available.

Good Mexican staff operate this restaurant. Tried ribeye, fajitas etc. really good food. Sortiment of beers is reasonable.

We have eaten here since the beginning in the 1970's and found they moved their location to Sylvan in Dallas. Parking lot is not large enough for seating occupancy. We were seated at a temporary plastic table that moved every time someone touched it. Had to wait for the rest of our party as they were late and it was VERY hot in there. Well I ordered # 10 with a enchilada substitution to sour cream chicken as I couldn't find the one I used to order. Big mistake, the enchilada and cheese taco were flavorless. My husband said the guiso de res was good, but the chips were kind of stale, cold and in need of salt. The salsa was also too spicy for him to eat much of it. My daughter and granddaughter liked their different nachos and my son in law liked his plate. Most of all we were SO DISSAPOINTED that NO bean soup was served at lunch time! We couldn't even order a bowl of it, what's up with that? In over 40 years of going to different Herrera's that was always part of the experience. Our food took quite a while and even after the server said she would bring me another coke, I had to ask again. Don't know if we will travel that far from our house again just to eat here as there are other Tex-Mex places better in our part of town. Mostly went for the nostalgia and not sure if this area is safe a night Just so we can get the bean soup. We will probably give the downtown (OMNI) location a try but saw they have a different smaller menu.

best mexican food ever!!

I have been going here for over 28 years! I live in Colorado and is the first place we go when we get to Dallas. Family owned- not a chain. Real Tex- Mex; the Park cities people love it! Authentic atmosphere- wonderful staff, great salsa! Cindy and family make it wonderful!!!

Your visit starts off with crispy homemade tortilla chips, with a nice medium salsa. Then they bring you a free bean soup that warms you to your soul. Their guacamole is buttery and seasoned just right. I got their chorizo egg breakfast burrito with bacon. And yes, the bacon was crispy. The food is so good you want to eat until it hurts. It’s wonderful.

This little Mexican restaurant always delivers! They have daily specials and most dishes are enough to take leftovers home. The crispy beef tacos, cheese enchiladas as well as their tostadas particularly stand out. At dinner, you’re started with a small cup of bean soup, which is wonderful! The salsa is to die for, but be warned—-IT IS HOT!!! Margaritas are also tasty and strong, and Happy Hour is until 7p weekdays. Ask for Melissa—she’s awesome!

Nothing has changed about this restaurant since they were originally in the Oak Lawn area including the off the charts Scoville knock-out punch of the picante (salsa) they serve on the table with their tostatas (for you Gringos that's "chips"). If your a Dallas native you may consider this one of the best. But so do those that worship at the altar of El Fenix and Ojeda's. Bottom-line: the same pedestrian tasting Mexican food that was served to your grandparents in the '60s. Good only for a stroll down memory lane.

the greasiest fat laden mexi I've ever eaten

I have driven by Herrara's many times, and decided tonight to go in and get a dinner to go. First of all, I felt very unwelcome at the bar. Friends of the bartender and owners had most of the bar staked out, and I was obviously a bother to them. I ordered a Margarita while I waited for my to-go dinner, and it was typical. Loads of sweet and sour mix, and a little bit of tequila. My food arrived quickly, and the waitress was nice. When I got home, I was very disappointed with the food. Substandard Tex-Mex fare, certainly nothing worth a repeat. I'm moving back to Fort Worth in a couple of months, and I can't wait. The Mexican food in Dallas is far inferior to that in Fort Worth. As is the Mid-East food, the Italian, etc. People in Dallas seem to be unaware of how really awful the food is here. Drive 30 miles, and you'll realize what you're been missing.

We enjoyed our meal. Hard to choose because they have so much on the menu. Good size portions and came with complimentary bean soup and chips and salsa. Love the bean soup, very good. Liked the new restaurant, not enough parking though, parking lot was crowded. Staff was very friendly.

We have been fans for >30 years; we've eaten at 3 locations and just keep following them. Good, good food. All 5 of us enjoyed this January 2017 visit for breakfast.

This is good, but the best Herrera's by far is in Oak Cliff. For some reason, the food is better. Go to that location for the best tex mex in Dallas! And as a bonus, it's BYOB!

I could eat the hot sauce and chips and be satisfied. The queso is ok but not my favorite. Entrees are served hot and it's all home made, so I make it a point to eat here every time I visit Dallas!

We've seen Herrera's show up on a lot of "Best of Dallas" lists so we thought it was worth the 30 minute drive into the city. The options were plentiful, the staff was attentive and the salsa was great, but I don't think I'd list it in the top 5 of Tex-Mex/Mexican food of Dallas. The chips were greasy and I thought my enchiladas were lacking in flavor; I had to ask for pickled jalapenos on the side to spice it up. We passed the Dallas Observer offices off Maple after we ate and are thinking that the Observer writers probably hit up Herrera's a lot for proximity and hence, that's why it makes the "best of" list. Hey, at least we can say we tried it.

We were told of this place by a local. I think I passed 20 others before arriving here. Good sign that the local cops were eating here. Salsa was good and actually had a kick. No alcohol served here so that's a downside. Food was ok. Not great but ok. I am not sure I would drive far to get here again but would stop in if in the area. Service was prompt and friendly.

Great tex-mex! This is the only Herrera's I've been to but I've heard it's the best. I usually go during the week with co-worker & we've never had issues with seating. But there parking is limited so it's best to get there early. We have some large parties there too & they were able to accommodate & give us all separate checks. The fajitas are huge & can easily be shared. Delicious! We'll be back!

The staff, the food, and an even better atmosphere! This place is my go-to Tex-Mex restaurant. I tried the other menu items years ago but I love my "jessica" plate dearly. Spicy salsa, cheesy enchiladas, refried beans to die for, even the iced tea is great! You won't go wrong here, enjoy.

Out of respect for this family I will not review the place at Mockingbird station. it is not the same harrers's where I have had meals for more than thirty years.

I've had several friends recommend Hererra's and finally tried it about 3 months ago. Needless to say I have been a regular every Sunday for brunch. The staff is super nice and accomodating. It is a very casual, comfortable place to eat with a cafeteria type setting. The beef burritos with sour cream sauce are to DIE for. SOO good. The beef is actually so tender and juicy like pot roast. They serve fresh chips daily with some of the spiciest salsa I have ever had. I highly recommend their sopapillas and flautas as well. Def. worth the trip.

A Dallas original, and the best Tex Mex anywhere in the USA. I've lived all over this country and have been coming here for 30 years, and I still love it. Salsa is awesome, bean soup killer, and the Primo Special is the best combination dinner ever! When I die and go to heaven, I hope and pray that there is a Hererra's Café there!

I went to the location in Mockingbird Station. The TexMex is as to be expected. The biggest surprise was the fried quesadilla that was recommended by the server. If you like cheese and fried, yum yum. The service was excellent, very prompt without being overwhelming. Will definitely go again.

This was a fun, great find! A small neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Very good food and EXCELLENT service. NO alcohol however.

The chicken sour cream enchiladas were amazing and coupled with my favorite Negro Modelo beer and guacamole, it was a truly memorable meal. The staff was attentive and very friendly. Wish I lived in the same state to visit this fabulous restaurant again soon.

This family run institution never goes stale. Enchiladas are cheesy, saucy and piled high. Beer is ice cold. The crowd is diverse, and the staff is a picture of smiling efficiency. It's cheap to boot. I never leave Dallas without a visit.

Food was great, waitresses doing a fine job, no long wait, affordable, and no hassles. What else could you ask for?

It was ok.... I guess. The waitress was nice enough. It just seems a bit pricey for what we got. My friend got one ground beef crispy taco that was dripping grease for $3 and a bowl of tortilla soup that had huge clumps of chicken she had to cut up before she could eat. I ordered the three beef burritos with Chile con carne. I thought it was going to be something different but it ended up just being canned chili. I was so disappointed. The chips and salsa weren’t bad. Nice crispy chips. Not sure if I’d go back.

They have the BEST hot sauce EVER. I always buy a bottle and take it back home when I visit DFW.
Large menu, big portions, good value
Visited in July 2009. At least my 4th visit. Located in Oaklawn, a transitional area on the edge of downtown Dallas. A few miles in one direction is Dallas hi rises, a few miles in another--Highland Park (vey high end residental), a few miles in another direction--"the hood". This makes for a very diverse group of customers. I use to live about a mile away, and it appears to be a Mom and Pop establishment. Would have reviewed earlier, but I asked TripAdvisor to verify the address. As new high end condos are built in the area, it will only be rediscovered by new neighbors and become more crowded. Good old fashioned Tex Mex. Large menu of complete dinners and daily specials. Of course, complimentary chips and salsa. Everything I have ever ordered is hot, fresh, and plentiful. Nice large portions. It appears to be a BYOB establishment based on watching the other customers. Was there on a Friday night, and there was a gentleman playing the guitar. He was taking requests. Not sure if that is a regular event. The address of the restaurant is correct, but I would verify its hours. I do not believe they are open 7 days a week or open for breakfast.
