This used to be my favorite restaurant, but not anymore. It is impossible to get a reservation so there is always a wait of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. I have never minded the wait in the past because the food is delicious. But tonight we waited over over one hour for our table. We got so hungry, we decided to sit on the patio and order an appetizer while waiting for our table. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious, but they brought a handful of tortilla chips to feed four people. We had to ask for more chips twice and our food got cold waiting on the chips. When we were finally seated, I was disappointed in the changes in the menu. They no longer have baked potatoes to compliment the Hawaiian ribeye. Why? They no longer have the House Salad (that’s been off the menu for years, but they used to allow customers to order off menu), and they were out of crab cakes. I settled for the ruby red trout instead of crab cakes and it was just okay. Our waitress was great, but she couldn’t compensate for my disappointment in the menu.

So disappointing. Rude hostess, sad service, befuddled manager, and the food was a poor value for the money. Thankfully Dallas has lots of alternatives that are much better so visit one of them instead.

This was our fist time at Hillston and we loved the atmosphere, it is casual elegant. The decor is unique, including a small replica of The Titanic. There was back ground music but you can still have a conversation with out being too loud. Service was excellent, we had our glass of water always full, not a single time we had to ask for more water . When we run out of chips that we ordered with the spinach and artichoke dip it was replenished. We had trout and grouper which were cooked and seasoned to perfection . Here comes the favorite part ...dessert ! Key lime pie with pecan crust! that it is to die for . Give it a try you will enjoy . Good place to take your date. Reservations recommended.

I live in HP and this has been my go-to place for 25 years. Food is great, but now you can't order your way. Service is mediocre, management is rude, waits are long. They abuse customers and do it their way. Will never go back. I sent a long complaint to Hillstone directly and they never responded.

I've never encountered a restaurant that can so consistently deliver an outstanding experience. I've eaten here at least 20 times and usually ordered prime rib or BBQ ribs, both were delicious every time. Service was always attentive, polished, and friendly. I've especially appreciated the extra things they do, like replacing my iced tea with a fresh glass before I ask and so carefully packaging my leftovers. The place is very popular, so I tend to come at off hours to avoid waiting for a table.

We ordered water to drink, she brought 2 dirty water glasses. I informed the waitress that Our glasses was dirty, she informed me that the water glasses with ice water are cleaner. We asked the waitress do you have any bottle water & she informed me that they didn’t have bottle water. Later, we received 2 glasses of ice water from another waiter, I asked the waiter! Do you have bottle water? The waiter answered yes & we ordered the bottle water. Our waitress didn’t care????

We have loved this restaurant and been loyal customers for almost 45 years. We now have had 2 very uncomfortable experiences regarding reservations. The first was on New Year’s Eve. My wife, myself and another couple had made our Hillstone visit a New Year’s Eve tradition for 8 consecutive years. When we arrived at the restaurant that night they did not have our reservation. The manager Emily made us feel like she was doing us a favor to seat us. What 2 couples go out on NYE without a reservation hoping to con their way in? Then this week after speaking to a manager named Aaron and securing a 5:45 reservation for a client dinner, I received a text saying that it was for 5:15. Not wanting to adjust the time with the client I called the restaurant and spoke to Emily the GM. She did not handle this well and yet again made me feel like I was at fault. My wife was in range of the phone and when I got off said, “I never want to go in there again!” Bottom line is this, Hillstone Highland Park is a restaurant that cannot be counted on to accurately take a reservation and then honor it. They are extremely unappreciative of their long standing guests and have one of the worst customer service attitudes I have ever experienced in any business.

Excellent salads but the French Dip was the best one I've ever had, perfectly made. Pretty good menu, too.

I am amazed how popular Hillstone continues to be. We went early and still had to wait for a few minutes. The food was delicious but rather expensive. The wait staff seems snobbish. I always get a vegetable plate that isn’t on the menu. I really love the coleslaw. I have never had a bad meal here.

Typical American. Cocktails made well but don't trust the barmen's alternative advice if you are a traditionalist. The hamburger and artichoke are good

Don't let the ho-hum exterior fool you; GET IN THERE! We experienced a wait list that would have been 30 minutes, but opted for the bar instead. Great service. Great food! The salmon was perfect. The mesquite grilled brussel sprouts were out of this world. The specialty drinks were amazing. They had decent champagne available and chilled nicely. We looked at the plates as they came out to other patrons; large portions. Good value. Looks like a local's place. Lot of white collar sort. Some ladies who lunch. A few well behaved kids. Casual, but not work-out gear casual. The menu was diverse, but not confusing. I will go back next time in Dallas.

Had lunch here today. They have the same menu items we always ordered at Houston’s Addison. It was so delicious! Service and food were both excellent, and it’s vegetarian friendly. I’m so happy to see they carry the house made veggie burger. This is absolutely the BEST veggie burger I have ever eaten!!!

Where do I begin about my love for this place ? It was my daughters 18th birthday. Our ski trip had been cancelled by the bad weather that came thru Dallas on 12/26 and early on 12/27. We were not going to be able to go at all. In an effort to cheer up the family I said let's go to Hillstone. As usual the food was great. When the waiter heard our story of disappointment he got with the manager. This was unknown to us. When he brought the bill they picked up on the house the whole meal. This is a rare thing in life. Talk about loyalty being built. Thanks Hillstone.

As always, our Hillstone lunch was wonderful. I had the chicken club salad and my husband had the veggie burger. The portions are large and we could taken half of our lunch home. But everything was so delicious, we split half way through and ate every bit.

If it weren't for the wonderful food, this would be an "Average" at best. This location is always packed and, since reservations are not accepted, everyone settles in for a 45 - 60 minute wait. This would be fine if the bar staff were attentive; they are not. The vibe at the bar is "unless you sit on the same stool multiple times a week; no eye contact". Once seated, service was OK. One member or our party ordered a second glass of wine; two glasses arrived at the table. The server finally took the second glass and said it would be removed from our tab. Unfortunately, due to splitting the check with our party, we did not discover until the next day that the wine was never removed from the bill. That should not be a difficult task. As usual, we vow not to return but probably will in several months once we have forgotten the logistics and only remember the food.

Our friends took us out while we followed their lead for good food and nice ambiance!!! We had SHY who was our server and was aces in my book!!! She was well known there and she was knowledgeable, attentive, on point, and there when we needed her. Kudos to her!!! Also who was very helpful was the hostess EMILIA, who helped me on what to order for dinner after I was watching the chef's make dinner magic at the grill!!! She highly recommended the Hawaiian Rib eye and I was sold!!! TY!!! So a bottle of Chardonnay was ordered with the spinach dip to share. A wedge lettuce salad for myself and my wife to share. A filet mignon for my honey and us three had the rib eye steak with the Hawaiian sauce and dressing. All four steaks were grilled to a perfect medium rare. With the large fully loaded baked potato!!! Wow!!! Tasty, flavorful, grilled perfectly!!! Yum!!! Overall, great dark ambiance, great helpful staff, awesome steaks!!! We will be back!!!🥩🥩🥩

Hillstone has a loyal following including us for good reason. The atmosphere is sophisticated but casual, the food is always delicious, everyone can find something they love, and the service is as good as it gets because of their philosophy and training program that every guest is served well by any staff walking by the table including the managers. Their artichokes are fantastic, burgers are delicious, any fish is cooked perfectly, ribs and steaks are fabulous, and the portions are so generous that we generally take something home. Drinks and wine list are also well-made and selected with generous pours. We love Hillstone and eat here at least once a week despite all the competition from wonderful new restaurants every month.

So, we stopped by again - and again never to disappoint. Prime Rib was perfect. Coleslaw sometime can be a Little spicy than normal. Thai Salad is is just a clean eating experience - so refreshing - I have with roast beef. Harvey Pumpkin cheese cake is yummy. Enjoy!

This place is all about ambiance and to be in the Park Cities crowd. The food is mediocre at best. I thought would give this place a try again because my wife likes the ribs and their Artichoke dip is good. You want a salad? Burger? Salmon? Steak? Ruby red trout? Much better choices all around Dallas for anything in their menu which is very limited. You want to be in the Park Cities crowd and be served by staff that do not necessarily cater to you but to their corporate directions them definitely go there.

A very popular restaurant with the locals for good reason, very good high quality food with friendly and efficient service. Great for lunch

We were very pleased after dinning at Hillstone. The food selection was good and our dishes were very nicely prepared and tasty. The restaurant is a bit noisy, though, not good for romantic dinners...

Having dinner at Hillstone is a great experience to enjoy tasty specialties. Crabe cakes are light and tasty, barbecue ribs are delicious and the flying tuna is a real treat! Staff is very polite and efficient even on a Saturday night. This restaurant is ideal for a nice evening with friends or family.

Sometime ago, Houston's became Hillstone (sibling rivalry with the city to the south?)...the good news is that the quality of food, service, atmosphere, etc. has not changed. This is still a great place to dine or for a casual meal. Be forewarned, it's almost always crowded...even at off-peak meal times. Make a reservation or be prepared to wait. If you have to wait, the bar is excellent and drinks are well priced. The wait is worthwhile even without the drinks. Everyone from the folks at the host stand to the wait staff, to the kitchen staff...makes you feel welcome and the the food and service are always top notch. While there's plenty of parking, the lots can fill up fast, so plan ahead. Even with minor inconveniences, this place is a star for lunch, dinner, or a quick bite on the way to something else.

such a pretentious restaurant! i ordered the fish special and it was super dry and cold… service was incredibly slow and practically non existent… read up on recent reviews and avoid this place! zero customer appreciation

We enjoyed eating at this restaurant with an old friend. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgable about the menu and all the ingredients. Most impressive! The Key Lime Pie is very good.

The food was good, the wait staff was great, the management team was horrific! I was traveling from out of town with a group of 7 ladies. I called three weeks prior to make a reservation only to be told that they do not accommodate parties over 6 people, and they refused to allow us to split our party (party of three and four, two reservations). The week of (due to illness) we ended up with only 6 ladies in our group so I called once again for a reservation, this time I was told they do not accommodate parties over 5 people, and again refused to split our party. After speaking with a manager (not Aaron) they allowed us to make two reservations and also said they would sit our tables close in proximity. That did not happen, when we asked about it the manager on duty, Aaron, he was not only rude to us but extremely disrespectful to his staff who were doing nothing more than trying to accommodate what I thought to be a rather simple request. Both of our tables were seated next to empty tables, but Aaron the manager refused to allow us to sit next to each other. When I spoke with him I mentioned his facial expressions and verbiage used toward his staff as well as my issues with the reservation process as a whole, and interactions up to this point to which he responded, "I apologize for my facial expressions, enjoy your dinner," and left our table. Aaron (the manager) was very inconsiderate and at no time throughout my visit was respectful or accommodating. This will be my last visit to Hillstone! In my opinion it does not matter how great the food is, I refuse to support a company who would employee such a classless leader! Do better Hillstone management, your staff and customers deserve it!

We have celebrated every single anniversary for 34 years at Houston’s/Hillstone. Never a bad experience until May 5, 2024. Received a bad Ribeye - 60% fat and gristle, far exceeding the Ribeye norm. We didn’t even ask for the steak to be removed from our check, but they firmly stated “we will NOT be removing this from your check”. And that’s fine, but why not offer an alternate menu item OR extend an apology. We got neither. All they did was defend their cut of meat. It was shocking to see both a waitress and Manager interact with us with a “get over it” attitude. I literally told the Manager I was shocked she was speaking to us this was and she turned and walked away. No regard for our disappointment. When you spend over $300 on food and drink for 4, you expect much better. 😞

Four of us went for lunch in Dallas on a day when it was raining cats and dogs. How cozy and enveloping the environment is inside a Hillstone's restaurant. This has to be the best "chain" restaurant known to mankind. The food is great, whether you want "heart attack on a plate" or something a little less lethal. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Including that special salt mix, why not sell that stuff? Overall great service, great atmosphere, great food, great experience. I luv me some Hillstones and wish they would open a branch in the Pacific NW. Houston's Bellevue Square, anyone?

Very nice restaurant and food. Great Ambiance. We have been there many times. Spinach & Artichoke Dip and House-Smoked Salmon are the best appetizers that we like. Grilled Chicken Salad is very good and the Filet is delicious, soft and amazing. We love the ambiance, environment and the Service.

We go to Hillstones almost monthly and it is always a great experience. Service, drinks and food are always top notch and the straight forward, American classics menu can't be beat. Although there is often a long wait at prime dinner/lunch times, the restaurant does take reservations.

First time here since the restaurant rebranded from Houston's. For lunch, the fish sandwich was very good. Texas toast was the opening act, and it was also tasty. The service was very good, professional. Excellent atmosphere. Make reservations. Seems like a favorite place for Park Cities' residents.

Love the great food and relaxed upscale ambience here. We’ve been here at least 6 times and will be returning. Grouper sandwich was superb!

Place is always very good. Food is excellent. Very nice atmosphere. The service is always fantastic as well

I found a seat at the bar on a Wednesday night (very busy). I ordered Dublin Dr. Pepper, as I am pregnant, and I also ordered the French dip. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. My drink stayed filled but my food was taking quite a while. Without me pointing it out, the bartender noticed despite how crowded the bar was and she went to the kitchen to check on it. Soon the manager came by and apologized for how long it was taking (I wasn't paying too much attention it I suppose it could have been 30 minutes?) I assured the manager I was fine and being well taken care of and about 10 minutes later my food came. It was great, which I expected because I'm familiar with the restaurant. After my meal the bartender brought my bill and all that was on it was the Dr. Pepper. She said the food took way too long so she comped it. I thought that was really nice especially since I did not complain and was not in a hurry. First class place and people!

The Hillstone in University Park is one of our favorite Dallas restaurants. The menu is simple but refined, the service is outstanding and you better have reservations and a fat wallet. Absolutely love to eat here. Every time we come back from overseas, this is on our must eat list.

We have always enjoyed Hillstones . However , the last two times we were there our experience was marginal .. Both times we waited almost 2 hours to get a table .. The first time we were seated at the bar and we were forgotten .. the second time the hostess kept extending the number of people in front of us …Although always polite , there was an air of control attitude .. We have had great experiences at R& D kitchen even with a wait time The hostess always seemed pleasant.. we will not return at Hillstones ; but, will return to R&D ..

As always, great food! The ribs, grilled chicken salad, asian beef salad and spinach artichoke dip are some of our favorites. Their food, drinks and service are always top notch. We went Saturday night expecting a wait, but couldn't believe it was a 2 hour wait. We just sat on the patio for drinks/appetizers, so it wasn't too bad. Luckily, it was a nice night. The grilled oysters were incredible!

Go eat somewhere else they do not care about you anymore , being dedicated patrons For more than 30 years we have eaten at what once was Houston’s Dallas then changed to Hillstone. We have shared birthdays, anniversaries, graduation endless list of special occasions I have been a dedicated customer A regular ever Sunday afternoon , (it’s a 30 mile drive ) or I’m sure we would have eaten more frequent . I order my same Salad for 30 plus Years , on seldom occasions I’ve had the fabulous ribs , always hanging the side salad -even when they took the croutons off the salad I emailed corporate and they listen , when they removed the cheese bread side , the staff would always accommodate if you ask for it . When they removed the CLUB Salad they still made it as an off menu item (that’s customer service) always on a wait sometimes up to 2 hours (we waited) the chef upon arrival always acknowledged us and sends a side of fries to our daughter as he has watched her grow thru the years ! But the last time I will ever set foot in this establishment breaks my foodie heart ! I ordered my salad when it arrived the dressing was in a side bowl , so I ask for the server to take it back and toss the salad as I have eaten this prepared with the dressing tossed into the salad for 30 years not to sound snooty it just taste better when it distributed and the presentation is to my liking , This is no lie THEY REFUSED TO TOSS MY SALAD........... the young manager on duty with quite the attitude even argued with my daughter who very eloquently stated why would you not want the customer to be happy ? She stated that the chef wanted it presented like this .... OK , so do you toss the other salads ?? YES this it’s the only one we no longer toss. Ok ... I appreciate the presentation , now can you please take it to the kitchen and toss it as it has been prepared the same way for 30 YEARS! ..... NO You can order something else or eat elsewhere .... WHAT ??? She said those words ... but we WILL NOT toss this salad. Now I’m not exaggerating I eventually ask for a to-go container and Tossed it myself then served it back into my plate at the table. I promptly emailed corporate the next day after the nightmare dining encounter and was so appalled with the response , no one at my table was ever inappropriate rude or disrespectful to the staff , I felt compelled to share the response ! I sadly will Never eat in this restaurant again . I have not encountered a more arrogant very young shift manager ~ No chef in house on a very busy Sunday evening at a very popular restaurant, our waitress was so embarrassed by the Mgr she was speechless and Very apologetic she has waited on us several times . ***CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SO IMPORTANT YOU FAILED HILLSTONE****** Houston’s and have lost a 30 year dedicated customer the photo is the response from corporate Sad this is what our world has come to Salad Discrimination at its Finest

I have NEVER had a bad meal here- or drink, or wine. Everything on the menu that I've tried is over the top. Great value for what you get. Try the French Dip sandwich, the Steak Thai Salad, Grilled Artichokes, even the Spinach dip is better than anywhere else!! If you like Bloody Marys, try theirs. The best I've ever had.

Ate at Hillstone on a biz trip. 3 people. Place was wildly busy on a Monday night. So busy the bar is packed, nowhere to get a drink while you wait on a table - and you wait even if you have a reservation. People pile up in the entryway and out the door. Clearly a struggle to find parking as well. I have no idea why it is so busy. The food is good, but not anything special. Drinks are OK, but not special. Very average place. Expect to pay $30 for an entree - $40 or more for a steak. Cocktails $15 We ate entree's skipped desert and beat it out. I won't go back

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch for my wife’s birthday at Hillstone. The service was exceptional and just the right amount of attention. The ambiance is just what we wanted for an enjoyable lunch experience. Every entree was prepared perfectly. My wife had the fish sandwich which she loved. My mother had the Thai steak and noodle salad and it’s her favorite. The steak is always perfectly cooked. My daughter had the Kale salad with chicken. She said it was absolutely delicious. I had the French Dip Sandwich which is made with thinly sliced prime rib. It is the best French Dip Sandwich any where. This was a great birthday lunch and we all had a wonderful time together.

While the food quality was acceptable, other issues made Hillstone a bad choice, It was NOT what was expected. I'll also confirm views posted by others on Trip Advisor that this Hillstone is "way way overpriced." Unlike others of all price levels in the area: (1) Hillstone serves Coke in bottles. Others serve it in glasses with refills without additional charge (their charge for one bottle of Diet Coke is $3.00 and was not re-filled - a bad service experience from the 1950's). (2) Hillstone has no WiFi, and we were even unable to pick up the WiFi signal from Spectrum with a facility across the street (per Spectrum's map). (3) And unlike others of all price levels in the area, Hillstone refused to accept a Discover card. Hillstone is way behind on basic service that we expected. That makes it a poor choice for me.

Is amazing. Hillstone is the sister to Houston’s in Addison. Very cool, hip, lively crowd with great service. Even well done steak was tender with lots of flavor. Wife had ribs that fell right off the bone. Very large loaded potato was nice and fresh. Bartenders pour a good drink. One of my ATF.

Love going with family and friends... the service and food is always excellent.... the only problem is the wait time...

Restaurant is part of the Hillstone group of restaurants. We did not have a reservation for a Saturday evening dinner so there was close to a 1 hour wait, but we’ll worth the wait. Ribs were delicious and filet was cooked just right. Sides are all great especially the potato purée and coleslaw.

My wife and me are not from Dallas, but travel there at least twice a year, and we always schedule a dinner at Hillstone. It is our favorite dinner spot in Dallas, located in the nice Preston Ave. We went there last Saturday, without a reservation and were told it would be 30 minutes to get a table for us. We did not mind, since we have like to wait standing next to the open grill watching the kitchen operating at full speed. Over the years we've come to know the guy in charge of the grill (from Mexico same as ourselves) and he quickly places a bowl of just-made shoestring french fries for us to munch on while we wait. Watching him work the grill is a show by itselt, and it gets our appetite going and our minds in a dilemma of deciding what to order! We were seated as scheduled, in a nice booth in the center of the dining room. The atmosphere is great at Hillstone....the lighting is theatrical in the sense that it seems like a dark room, but the directional lighting highlights the table and the faces light up with the reflection from the tabltop itself. Very elegant piano music is performed live adding to the ambiance. Another great thing about Hillstone is that although it is an elegant place, the mood is casual, as is the dress code. You'll find people in nice sports coats and fancy dresses, as well as in bermuda shorts and polo shirts. Everyone is made felt welcome. Our server was quick to greet us and offer drinks and appetizers. We always go for the grilled artichoke which was better than ever this time...with great flavor and lots of "meat" in the leaves. My wife and me both decided to go for the hamburger, which undoubtly is the best in Dallas. She requested a side of ceasars salad instead of the showstring fries that normally come as a side...she says it was delicious with a touch of sesame oil. Burgers were cooked to perfection, with savory cheese and toppings on an exquisite house-made (I assume) bun. Servers are constantly refreshing your drinks, and picking up any plates you have finished with. First class all the way around, and there were people still coming in for dinner at 10:30pm! We simply had a great dinner and a wonderful time, as always at Hillstone! We will definitively keep coming back!

We've never had a bad meal here! Tried Crispy Oysters because they didn't have Oysters St Charles-delicious and light. 3 Club Salads, can't top perfection, and a Thai Noodle Sirloin Salad. Shariah was our server, and the service was excellent, as it always is. Everyone here makes the experience a pleasure.

I was down in this area the other day. Not been here in years and needed a good place to go eat. This was one of the places nearby. I am so glade I went to this great restaurant!!! I had a fish I want to call a chard but not sure on the name. It was much like a salmon. They grilled it with spices and served with broccoli cooked in garlic and light spice. Wonderful!! I had their Chardonnay that was Russian valley area in California and was so great with this dish. I finished my meal with a yummy dessert, walnut crusted cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. OMG!! So very good!! Not only was the food & wine very nice but they had a very good pianist playing tunes softly in the background. The audience of the restaurant was impeccably done. My waitress was always there for every need and very courteous. Very clean and very much of a place to take a special person for a great date. Highly recommend this if you like really good food. If you’re looking for bargain food it’s not for you. This is more of high end restaurant. But sometimes we all need a treat. If that is what you’re looking for then this is a great place to go to. Enjoy!!

Haven't eaten here in two months as they adopted an anti kid policy where they no longer provide high chairs. They don't want your business if you have children so we stopped going. The food quality was always good, but the attitude toward our children is offensive.

This is one of my favorite places to eat! The food is delicious I've had nearly everything on the menu the Hawaiian Steak Is my favorite and the lemon drop martini is the bomb! I gave it 4⭐️'s because of the 1 single hard wood bench you sit on when your waiting to be table seated. On weekends its standing room only.

I made a late stop for Friday night dinner, entering solo at 10 pm and seated immediately at the bar (my choice). Enjoyed some TV and a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc by the glass. Main entree was a perfectly cooked broiled salmon with a side of luscious whipped mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Service was superb. Nice to witness perfection on all counts.!

We have been going to Hillstone Dallas for many years and never been disappointed. It’s great food and Service that is consistent every time. Great bar or patio to have a Drink while you wait. Great people watching. Some of the best ribs in Dallas.

Very good choice for Christmas Eve dinner. Service was outstanding on a busy night. My wife had roast beef that was beautiful and served with juice and horseradish sauce. I had roast beef dip sandwich that was wonderful. Our daughter had grilled salmon and a huge brownie that was what brought us here in the first place!

Well. It’s hard being partial but open minded for the Hillstone group. I just Can’t seem to get a 5 star at this location...hostesses are always “icy”.... The Belt Line Houston’s frankly was the best. The food is consistent, but it’s the service that lacks . We had the Amazing French Dip , nobody in Dallas does it better. Had to ask for a tea refill , instead of the servers usually watching after each other .... the grilled chicken salad with peanut sauce always a treat . And the Key Lime Pie? Nobody does THAT better. Hands down . If they could get the service up to standards, I would love it. Now that some of the Belt Line peeps have moved over, maybe we will see a little better service . A top notch Dallas dining spot for sure .

A dear friend and I went here for dessert on our first visit. We ordered Champagne (properly chilled) and their key lime pie. We both looked at each other after taking the first bite and agreed it was the best we have ever had (and we both travel a lot). A slice is a good size and worth the price. I have bought it to go for many of my friends and they all love it! Any time I am in the area, I have to get a slice and I am not that much of a dessert eater! Have been there since for lunch and dinner and the service is always wonderful, except as in most cases anywhere you dine, staff does not use your name. Sometimes staff at the door are on their cell phones and they miss the opportunity to thank guests as they leave, making for a positive last impression.

Great atmosphere, excellent food, fast service, cool decor. Very nice fine dining and good lighting. The barbecue ribs are highly recommended!

Excellent food and service. Glad to be able to support our locals. The spinach and artichoke dip is awesome. The ribs were wonderful and the shrimp was perfect.

Went to Hillstones on a Friday lunch time and it was very busy with a great atmosphere. I had the wood grilled artichoke followed by the ribs -- all very good. Excellent and friendly service nad prices very reasonable.

This is one of our date night favorite. Hillstone never disappoints! Everything we order is cooked to perfections. The service is always impeccable!

I think their menu is identical to Houstons and they're owned by the same company. Make a reservation...it's packed on a Wednesday night. The spinach dip is my favorite and they have a great veggie burger! I love that they're consistently great!

My family of four , two college age young adults comes here almost weekly. I recommend a reservation. The cocktails, spinach artichoke dip, and other appetizers are great. The salads, burgers, pork chop, rotisserie chicken, and grilled fish all excellent.

Packed with people, dinner did not disappoint. The smoked salmon appetizer was a healthy 4 Oz piece of salmon, toast points with a cup of herbed aioli--yum yum. Yes, do request the club salad. Seating makes you feel you are all alone despite a full house. Server was, well, a bit nonchalant. Oh well.

We eat here at least twice a month - usually for lunch, but dinner is excellent as well. For lunch you can't go wrong with the French Dip sandwich, hamburger or ribs. But if those don't sound good they also have some great salads and fish dishes. Don't miss the reds beans and rice (Mondays only) or the key lime pie. Best key lime pie ever, anywhere!

Spent the evening in the bar. The have a very nice wine selection. Excellent appetizers and when you combine this with a nice atmosphere and excellent service you get a very nice evening.

Haven't been here in a while. In the past, there has been a long wait. No reservations. Tonight there was a 30 minute wait but there were seats at the bar and patio available. Excellent lemon drop and sidecar in a frosted martini glass. Very good bartenders. Halfway through my sidecar, she poured the remainder into a new frosted glass. Above and beyond. Grilled artichokes were fantastic. Entrees were a seared tuna salad, which surpasses others I've had. My wife had the French dip, which was exceptional. Finally, the key lime pie is to die for. Perfect service every step of the way.

A late lunch on Tuesday afternoon. Had not been here before, but had heard it was good. Menu provided good variety of seafood, beef, salads and heartier fare. We went lighter and ordered the fried oysters and the ahi tuna salad to share. Both were outstanding. But what really impressed us was the customer service. When our oyster app didn't come out timely the server and manager made a personal apology about the communication error. They owned the snafu in a very personal and caring manner. They asked if there was anything else we wanted (we really were satisfied ) and comp'd the ticket along w a gift card. To us, this was extraordinary and exemplified the care for the diner. It's not our neighborhood - but we will definitely be back and send friends.

On our recent trip to Dallas my wife and I dropped into Hillstone for lunch and were glad we did. We were quickly seated by their friendly staff. We'd been traveling and it was late afternoon so I ordered their Prime Rib which was very good. My wife had soup and salad and commented both were excellent. Their portions are generous. We shared Cheesecake for dessert and it was very good too. This is an excellent restaurant, had a large crowd for late afternoon and we'd for sure dine here again.

Hillstone never disappoints. I guess that’s why every night of the week the place is packed. This has been a family favorite for over 15 years! If you are lucky, the grilled artichokes are in season!! We also love the smoked salmon appetizer ! Our family thinks these are the best ribs ever... even over BBQ restaurants in town! They are lean and fall off the bone good !! When celebrating birthdays, we share the nut brownie with ice cream!! Delicious!!

The best part of the meal was the service. How they get it done is beyond me! However, the food was a big disappointment. I ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye which has been on their menu for years. Because of the marinate, there is usually a nice char on the outside. Not this time. The flavor was off and as soon as I cut into the steak, I knew it wasn't going to be as tender as a ribeye should be. The temperature was correct. Along side was a less than generous portion of what tasted like frozen french fries. For years, Houston's didn't miss a beat. Not this time.

The Hawaiian ribeye was the worst experience in my 15 years of visiting Hillstone. The meat buyer did a horrible job. The managers were not very supportive and failed to remove the charge from my bill even though I had no bites of the meet. I tried cutting the ribeye, but at no location on the steak could a knife cut through the steak. Ribeye steaks are marbled, but not as badly as the steak I received. The night before, at the 1845 steakhouse, I had a larger and better ribeye, so it is possible to have a good ribeye that is not 90% gristle.

I’ve been going to Houston’s/ Hilstone for 35 years. My sister and I had just driven in from Houston and meet my Nephew there, I was told at the 45 minute wait, where we had 2 drinks, after waiting for over an hour, I went up to the hostess and asked how much longer the wait would be, 20 more minutes, we waited my sister went up and asked the hostess reply’s 9 more minutes? After watching couples walking in and being seated, before us as we waited. Finally we were seated, told we could have complimentary dessert. My sister and I had ordered a glass of wine to take to the table. My sister got hers, I asked the waiter for my wine and I was told I cut off. Well at the point I was insulted. I asked to talk to the manager, her answer to me was they weren’t sure how many drinks I had before I got there, I replied I just drove in from Houston, I’ve had 2 drinks, she couldn’t give a good answer. At that point I refuse my food, my sister boxed hers up and we left! Needles to say I was very unhappy about the longer hour and a half wait, but accused of having to much to drink, truly insulting. The staff were rude and the manager could not give me a real reason for being cut off. Never got out complimentary dessert either. I won’t be going back to Hillstone’s!

Wonderful, energetic, festive fine dining restaurant! Too busy to wait for a lunch table (great sign) and it was the perfect choice and pleasure to dine at the bar with bartenders, Angie and Jimmy. Jimmy's greetings and lunch suggestions were outstanding. Angie's watchful eye, warm Texas welcome and genuine interest in us and our celebration was heartfelt! Thank you, Angie. We'll surely return! Merry Christmas!

This hurts to write this review but HIllstone (and before, Houston's) is a former shell of what it used to be. We were solid patrons for 30+ years being regulars in Houston's Addison, now closed, Houston's off Walnut Hill and now this location. Food was top notch and service was impeccable. This has been eroded over the past 8+ years. They have been cutting corners and it shows in the quality of food, the shrinking portions and the slow, subpar service. Oh, and the prices have increased dramatically out pacing inflation by a factor of 3. Don't be fooled by the long wait times. This place is living off their reputation from the 1990s. Dallas has so many nicer dining venues I have no desire to ever go here again.

Stopped in to try the ribeye and ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye. I was not disappointed! I accompanied that with a salad and a mojito; everything was outstanding! The steak was nice and flavorable as well as the salad. I will try something different the next visit.

I had the chicken salad yesterday at Hillstone. It was phenomenal! Fresh greens, grilled corn, jicama, tomatoes, tortilla strips and cilantro with a vinegrette dressing and peanut sauce. Unbelievably good! We also Got sides (for the kids, you know) - delicious French fries and the best beans and rice I’ve ever had (the waiter said they were flavored with chocolate - no wonder!) We also had a lovely Sauvignon blanc! Enjoyed it so much!

This was one of the best meals we've had as a group. The staff is great and the food is excellent! Try the spinach dip and the sandwiches really everything is so good you want go wrong.

This is where my uncle wanted to go for his 88th birthday. We made reservations and arrived on time and still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Once seated the hostess confirmed we were celebrating a birthday but that was the last we heard about it. No mention by the waitress and no dessert complimented (we did order two desserts and were charged full price). Decor is dark and could make a romantic date but you would have to scream at each other to hear one another. We were seated on the street side by the window (far away from the bar) and still had to shout to hear each other. This is ridicoulous when you are paying this much (some revieweres describe this as a lively crowd). Prices are high - $14 for a house merlot wine and $12 for a house Cab wine. No complimentary bread and most itmes are ala carte. A $39 stead comes with a baked potatoe. Salad is extra (Tradional salad was $9 and really a one person portion). Never offered any steak sauce for our steaks. Waitress seemed to rush us. Dinner for three of us (and my husband and I split the steak and a salad) with 3 glasses of wine (I had water), two desserts and 2 coffees was $165. Wow! Then add a tip on top of that and not sure who can afford to eat here on a regular basis. Maybe that is Dallas prices for you. Uncle was mostly happy although he didn't realize he didn't get a salad with his steak. But wish they had properly remembered his birthday.

Hillstone has slid way downhill. We were seated appropriately without a wait, at the time of our reservation. After ordering a salad, a bowl of soup and a French dip to share, everything came out at one time. By the time we were ready to eat the French dip, it was cold. Then, "here's your hat - what's your hurry"... the waiter came, cleared one customers plate, cleared the French dip au jus while the other patron was eating her 1/2 of the sandwich. No more au jus for you, lady ... hurry up! The Sunday brunch Bloody Mary was undrinkable. Warm, NO ICE at all; no straw, no garnish. Just a warm Glass of Clamato juice with horseradish.. $15. Was there vodka in there? Who knows, it was undrinkable. The Hillstone on Third Avenue in New York City closed a few months ago with no notice. Given the downhill slide of the one in Dallas, who knows if this chain is in trouble. I recommend you go elsewhere.

Recently took friends to Hillstone for lunch. They had never been. We told them the food was great, service was wonderful, it is possible to actually hear one another and have a conversation...and their key lime pie is outstanding! Hillstone didn’t disappoint!

Took our family to celebrate our granddaughter's award. Luckily we arrived early because, even on a weekend, there was a long waiting line after a few minutes. The food was typical of a grill but there was a wide variety. I had the best veggie burger ever. Some of our family ordered the French Dip which they raved about. Even if you are not a Vegan, I would order both dishes and share. There was a good wine and beer list -- we did not order drinks because of the time of day, but we noted the wide variety of choices. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere, great service and great food. Heavy wood paneling with a quasi-nautical theme. We started off with the crispy oysters, had the filet, the pork chop and a great burger. All prepared to perfection. Look forward to our return.

Hillstone never fails! We arrived without reservation but were arranged seating at the bar after just maybe 5 minutes’ wait. The bartender was super friendly and professional and the salads we had were delicious. Sadly, they didn’t have any sushi on their menu in contrast with the other Hillstones I have visited. Overall, a fantastic experience to start the night out.

Great food in a great location. It’s like they’ve perfected american classics. The salads are amazing. The artichoke is the best I’ve had outside of CA or my own home. The french dip has just the right amount bread to soak up all The au jus. French fries are crisp and delicious.

I'll be brief, Great Service, Great atmosphere and better food. Next time you stop by, try the BBQ Ribs they are outstanding.

Great place! Nice bar area with a piano player. Nice atmosphere food was awesome! I had the blackened trout was so good! Drinks were good as well. Friendly waiters and waitresses!

My wife and I went to Hillstone today here is Dallas and I would have to say, they have lost their way. My wife ordered the prime rib sandwich and you get just the sandwich for $21 on a large plate with 2 white cups, one horseradish sauce and the other Au Jus. Plate looks empty and over priced. At least put some fries on the plate without charging extra for them I had the Thai Salad with beef for $24 and it was small. Its just noodles tossed in a spicy dressing with some carrot sticks, 3 small half tomatoes cut in half, peanuts, some kind of lettuce and fresh mango chunks. My wife had a diet coke that came in an 8 floz bottle for $3 so for $48 we had a sandwich, salad and diet coke. with tax and tip it was $62 I love HIllstone/Houstons and have been going to them for over 20+ years and never complained about paying more for good food and great service. Never a surprise but today after being told that the brownie was available but only in 2 mini pieces and no ice cream you have to wonder why are you even open and is this the new norm. Same brownie they said but smaller for take out. So if your making it in house I guess cutting 2 different sizes is out of the question. In the end i left hungry, disappoint and headed to Cann's for a 3 piece box for $8 which is all you need to know I will vote with my $$ to dine elsewhere for the time being and hope my next experience reflects what I have enjoyed for years a great dinning value in terms of food and service. If not we will have to say good bye to what used to be a great restaurant

Over the years we’ve enjoyed Hillstone/Houston’s in Dallas & Fort Lauderdale. That, unfortunately has come to an end over the past couple visits. The portions and quality have declined substantially. The attitude of management and staff has reached a new level of pretentiousness. Unfortunately, we would be hard pressed to visit either location again or at least in the near future.

Perennial winner on many counts. Service, attitude, and menu are top notch. The menu is very diverse and strong winners in their category. Pork chops…wow, ribs as good as anywhere…but better. Roast chicken, and don’t forget the Hawaiian ribeye that will make you glad you were there. Always busy, p,an being there,.

Don't know how I have overlooked this place but wow. Hands down the best French Dip I have ever had. Cole slaw in the top 2 if not the best. The Bloody Mary was delicious and unique and the appetizer (cheese bread with 3 different cheeses) yum, it almost melted in my mouth. Great service but University Park prices. Still a wonderful lunch. I definitely will come back.

We went to Hillstone when we were visiting Dallas recently and enjoyed it so much we went there again on our visit a week later. I am on a gluten free/dairy free/no histamine diet and the wait staff went out of their way to make sure i was able to order a meal that accommodated my dietary needs. I had their salmon which was one of the best I have had, and their wild rice dish was absolutely delicious! My friend had their ribs which she couldn't stop raving about. I'll definitely be going back to Hillstone! We went to dinner early so were able to get in each time. Be sure to make reservations as this is a popular place!

If you have more than 4 in your party, they won’t make a reservation. Be prepared to wait over an hour on a Saturday night. Once seated the service is mediocre and the food only okay. For a Dallas “hot spot” this one is sadly lacking. We won’t be back.

Food is always good along with service. We go at least once a month if not more. They have a fabulous pianist in the bar area on Thursday - Saturday named Ralph. Anything you eat there is amazing

This is a great place. There are never my surprises here..the quality is great. Great choices, great service, fair pricing.

Wow. Where do I start? I've been a loyal Hillstone/Houston's customer for 24 years, and the Preston location has long been a favorite for my wife and me. When Houston's closed, it was a gut-punch, but at least we had Hillstone. Lately, though, this place has gone downhill. The entryway has been filthy for years—leaves and garbage always pile up and get tracked inside. My last visit was the worst. My French dip was barely warm, and the au jus was ice cold. The waitstaff (99% female - no bias here) are generally lazy and unattentive. To make matters worse, the General Manager, Michael, never walks the restaurant. He just stands at the expo line drinking his drink, completely ignoring guests. It's disappointing to see a once-great restaurant decline like this.

Had lunch with a friend and we knew to arrive before Noon in order to not wait a long time. Our wait was 20 minutes at 11:30am on a Friday. The food was outstanding. The only problems I had were 1) I had a dirty appetizer plate & had to flag someone down to replace it & it took a few minutes so I felt I missed out on the full enjoyment of the wonderful spinach & artichoke dip. None other rivals how good theirs is, by the way. I had the thai steak salad & every ingredient in it made it more and more perfect. The second problem I encountered was that I paid with a credit card & the waitress stopped by to pick it up before we left the table. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. If you know I don't need change, don't bother us to pick up the check before we leave, you can get it after we leave. Great atmosphere. We will be back.

Consistently great food, great service in a great atmosphere. Always attention to detail at this long time favorite and wonderful restaurant.

Went for lunch. Staff were super friendly and very attentive service. Constant attention to refills on ice tea. Had the tuna salad - very good. Mid-priced American food. I would recommend and return.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. It was Houston's before they changed the name to Hillstone. The food is good, but the prices are out of line. I ordered a vegetable plate. It was $20. Pretty pricey for what you get. It was one of the places I always visited when I went to Dallas. It won't be any more. It's nice, but not that nice.

Had the best time eating here' the food and service is above average!!! I had the Hawaiian Ribeye, tender and tasty! My husband had prime rib, and he loved it! The food is pricey, but worth every penny and more....Alex did a wonderful job to ensure we were totally satisfied👍I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars. Try the wedge salad, cream corn, and asparagus. We ended our meal with a delicious, hot, cup of coffee and dessert.

Let me start with a massive, albeit hollow, compliment: the food, against all odds, was great. It truly is a shame that one must endure a masterclass in operational dysfunction and a front-row seat to human insecurity to enjoy it. Our evening began with the establishment’s exquisite prioritization system. While we stood patiently, we were treated to the exclusive show of six to eight separate tables—all of whom arrived after us and I was able to confirm they held no reservations—being ushered immediately to their seats. I suppose our faces simply didn't scream "urgent revenue stream." It wasn't just poor service; it was a deeply committed performance art dedicated to showing the paying customer their proper place in the pecking order. This gave us ample time to observe the bar area, which, I must say, is the main attraction. It functions as a delightful human aquarium where the genuinely insecure gather in a frantic, pulsating attempt to "see and be seen." The intense, almost frantic desperation for validation among the clientele is quite fun to watch, provided you enjoy a tragicomic pageant of self-importance. Truly, the best entertainment money can buy, which brings me to the price. Keep in mind the restaurant is located in University Park, TX The final insult is the bill. Charging what could only be described as absolutely ridiculous prices for the sheer privilege of being ignored by the host and sitting among the desperate and dramatic. If you enjoy feeling insignificant and paying a king’s ransom for the ambient noise of social climbing, this is your spot.

popular restaurant which offers good choice of lunch dishes. we had roast beef sandwich and pasta. coffee was aromatic. service was attentive. highly recommend.

Great lunch as always. The food and service are very good. Tip: arrive early so as to avoid a wait. I really enjoy the smoked salmon.

Wine list, service, and food always dependable. I still wonder why they have to have fried fish and fried chicken sandwiches. I stick with vegetable plate which varies depending upon what's on hand. Couscous is always great.

Sophisticated but comfortable atmosphere with an impeccable waitstaff. Although the lunch menu is short, the choices are divine. My companions had the Roast Beef sandwich au jus, which melted in their mouths, and I had an amazing Club Salad. Presentation of everything was exquisite.

We will never come back to this establishment or recommend to anyone. Management is rude and pretentious. Food is decent but there are much better establishments in the area that will treat you much better for the money you are spending. They act like they don’t even want you in there so why are they open?

Company staying at the Hilton park Cities. Hillstone is a short walk. My colleagues had the prime rib, salmon, and Hawaiian ribeye. I had the Rotisserie chicken. Best I've ever had. Had a really flavorful glaze and very moist. Atmosphere is casual but business friendly. Service was fantastic! Not the cheapest but definitely more affordable than some of the major steak house chains.

Spot-on, consistently great food , service and atmosphere. We had drinks and decided to eat our dinner at the bar, which was a great decision since the staff behind the bar is top notch. From the wine menu to the entrée selections, I am never disappointed at this fine restaurant. It makes me wonder why other restaurants can't copy this proven business model. I will certainly be back again soon.

I have been a Hillstone diner for over 35 years. The HOUSTONS on beltline Road had always been my favorite until it closed several years ago . I lived in the Devonshire Highland Park area for several years and used to frequent this restaurant . We moved away and continue to come to the restaurant and came into Dallas for a special occasion. Being a frequent diner I’m extremely aware of the attire. We arrived at 10 minutes till five on a Friday evening. We instantly noticed the look/onceover that the hostess gave us. She told us there were no tables available for one hour to one hour and 45 minutes . I asked her really.? I walked past her, searched the restaurant. There were 6 four top tables open there were 3 two top tables open and one small booth in the bar. The bar was full . I walked back over and she gave me some lame excuse. My husband and I walked out. I waited a couple of hours to cool down and I called back and spoke with a manager. I don’t even remember his name. The only excuse he gave was that there was an SMU game the next day and that the restaurant was crowded and they had reservations taking up the tables. There are many places we can choose to dine . Knowing that I am very aware of Melanie, Randy, Donovan and Lynda, etc. I’m obviously a frequent diner because I know a a lot of of the staff. We made a circle in the parking lot, went to Il Bracco . As always, fabulous food and service and no snobbery there.. I’m not sure if I will return. I emailed the corporate office and never heard back and this has been two weeks ago. I’m assuming Hillstone does not care for their clientele., does not read their emails and absolutely do not care about their reviews. I’m not sure that I will return. A huge disappointment from a company that provides itself on customer service.

Whether with family or friends, this restaurant never disappoints! I have been dining here for years. This time, the restaurant was unusually late in seating us even though we had a reservation. (Don't show up without one!) Much to our delight, we were offered a free appetizer upon being seated and a sincere apology as well. The waitstaff are top notch at this establishment. They make you feel special and are always accommodating with any request. I especially appreciate how your beverage is replaced before you even realize that you have run low on the first one. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is always consistently delicious! One minor complaint is the reservation process. Although ultimately you end up booking your reservation on Open Table, you can't find Hillstone in the Open Table app. For some reason, you have to go to the Hillstone website and then click to take you to Open Table. Maybe that's on purpose because they don't need additional marketing to book tables? This restaurant is full on any given evening. So plan in advance. And keep your party size limited to 4 people or under. I am unaware of any table seating more than 4 people. Enjoy!

Well. Here we go again . Bring back my old Houston’s on belt line Road in Addison. 😕😑 The service here is always icy the hostesses are decent.... A wedge salad with no blue cheese served with thousand island dressing??? Geez . I’ve gone vegetarian so I always get the grilled chicken salad with peanut sauce as I have been eating it at the original Houston’s and the Houston’s on beltline for 30 years. You would think since I got no chicken they would add some lettuce to the salad. No bueno. I also could get one slice of Ciabatta toast on the side, either at no charge or for a small fee tonight I was informed no you have to order three slices and a full order. NO THANKS HILLSTONE. You should attempt to keep your clients of 30 years happy, Dallas is a very big city and we have many options you need to think really hard about keeping the clientele you’ve had for many years. Sigh. Oh well !!

This review is not about the food or the staff service...both are great...5 star. This is about the foolish decision management made to remove the bar stools from the waiting area for the bar seating area. In order to get a seat at the bar when it's full one must get on a waiting list. I support this 100% and usually don't have to wait more than 15-20 mins when really busy to get seating at the bar. Today, as we do every Sunday, we went and put our names on the list, and went to the area around the bar we usually wait, but to our surprise the management had removed all stools to sit while waiting. I asked the staff what was going on and I was told by the staff that a decision was made by corporate management that the stools looked too crowded around the waiting area where we usually wait forcing the waiting customers to stand instead. This was very uncomfortable as I was wearing high heels. In addition, a very fragile customer with a walker came in also waiting on seats and she also had to stand. This is the dumbest decision I have ever heard of...first it saves no money and IT TAKES UP JUST AS MUCH ROOM TO STAND AT A HIGHTOP TABLE AS IT DOES TO SIT ON A SMALL STOOL while you wait. This is discrimination against women wearing heels( most men don't wear heels) and definitely discrimination toward handicap people. We go to Hillstone at least 3-4 times a month and spend around $200 each time and we drive about 30 mins to get there..we consider it a treat. We generally love the food and the service but this decision alone may eliminate our desire to go back. This decision is absolutely the DUMBEST and most ILLOGICAL thing I have ever heard.

The staff was very friendly and the appetizers were delicious. The famous spinach dip was terific. I ordered salmon and it was delicious. The only problem was that the side for the salmon was steamed asparagus. It was good but I preferred a baked potato. The baked potato was extra and there are no substitutes. This restaurant is very noisy and we met family there to have a good visit. That was not possible due to the noise level. The food was delicious and prefectly served. However, I have eaten food this well prepared at less costly restaurants. I do not care to return but as it is so busy all the time it must be the favorite restaurant of many.

Unbelievable dining nightmare. The management is militant , arrogant and down right offensive. Their corporate office is just as bad. Please consider other dining options in Dallas. We do not lack for good food and excellent service. Try Sevys across the street. Honestly .... anywhere but here . Please read the email that I received after repeated attempts to receive a phone call to discuss the situation. That’s right , a simple phone call from a professional person could have diffused the matter entirely . Dîner beware.

Ok... truth be know. A Very well established place that does have character. The bartenders and waitstaff are top-notch, without a doubt. The food is very pricey. I've been there three times and I've ordered the hamburger every time. It simply cannot be beat, only drawback is that it's $17. Take a wife or a girlfriend, or your wife and your girlfriend. They will be very impressed.

As the management has stated wait staff will not wear masks, this customer will NOT be going to any restaurant like Hillstone that cares so little for its customers’ health.

I came for a late lunch at 3:30pm with my one year old and friend at the weekend and it started out really nice until towards the end of our meal the manager came over and asked me "what he could do about the volume" regarding my child. My daughter was not crying or screaming and only made a few fussy outbursts, which I dealt with immediately by soothing her. All the tables around us were very friendly and we chatted with them- they had no problem with any such noise. For a relaxed family restaurant to come over and say that in the afternoon is really surprising and disappointing. It's a great spot and the food is fab, but it isn't an adults only super high end establishment so they are not in a position to talk to customers that way. The manager handled it very poorly and I'm not sure I want to return now.

The fries are now like McDonalds instead of their great fries before the pandi. Their flying chicken for kids is off the menu. Their burgers have changed and are so big are almost unedible. Our family of 7 will not go back. Also, too expensive.

This restaurant is a family favorite of ours! We have been coming for 15 years! My sons love their fall off the bone , melt in your mouth lean ribs!! We also love the smoked salmon appetizer. In season, the grilled artichokes are a must😊off-menu, the chicken tenders basket is awesome!! I love the oriental chicken salad too!

We tried to get a reservation 4 hours in advance, but they asked us to walk in. We got there and they said the wait was going to be 1,5 hours (it actually was). We asked several times for our table and they said that a large group was not easy to accommodate (4 people, ok?) . We decided to sit at the bar. There we asked for some ribs and salad and they would not serve it there. After all we got a table and had some good food. That was ok I guess

We ate here having moved back to Dallas after living in Florida for five years. We used to go to Houston's there (Pompano Beach), and always had great food/service experiences. I could have cried tears of joy having discovered that while the Houston's that used to be here on Beltline had closed, there was a Hillstone restaurant in HPV. Same menu (basically). So happy! Whitney our server and all else who helped out---awesome! The food! Artichokes in season---big YAY and what IS that dip you serve with it? Almost always get the french dip and hawaiian ribeye---loaded baked tater, creamed corn (so fresh!), or fries. That chopped salad with the garlic ranch dressing---OMG bottle that $X$%, So freaking good. And decent wine selection won't break the bank. I cannot wait to return.

Well. I used to live in Dallas and I have done so many reviews on this restaurant. this was a double edged because it was the worst experience and yet it was still great because of Melanie and the quality of the food. your hostess at The Front today, however Lauren., was rude and snippy. I would never put someone with this attitude at the front of my restaurant seating my guests.. with that said I will keep coming back. The food is always incredible. Love the ambience. I would just suggest making better choices when choosing certain people for positions where the first impression is the person that seats . Of course your company is not what it used to be. Too bad Houstons on beltline is gone. That’s where the real cooks the real hostesses the real servers truly were. An end of an era.

Lunched with 2 other friends 1/29/24. Fortunately had a reservation as this place is always crowded. We each had a different salad ($20-30 each) and all were outstanding. Absolutely delicious! Our wait person, Linda was very attentive and filled our filtered water frequently. A lovely atmosphere where you can actually carry on a conversation without deafening music overhead. Highly recommend with reservation!

It was our first time to Hillstone although we have always loved Houstons'. It has the same terrific style of menu and consistency of service. We were pleased to only have about a 20 minute wait on a saturday night! We started with a huge shrimp cocktail and then had prime rib, prime rib au jus sandwich and pork chop. The pork chop looked like the whole pig- not only was it massive but it was the best my husband has ever had (he always gets pork chops if on the menu)They do a great job of separating the noisy bar from the dining experience. These restauranteurs are pros! They think of all the details.

Lunch at Boxing Day is well patronized. The salmon is very good and I expected the Rotisserie grilled chicken is also good; but mixing it with Thai noodle and sauce might be a wrong combination and not serving its justice. Steak is good as told by my family too. Service is adequate for lunch. Seating is ok, so is the ambience. Price is right.

One of the hallmarks of a great restaurant in almost any town is the size of the crowd. Hillstone always attracts a crowd because the food is tremendous and the service is next to none, very personal and knowledgeable. This winning combination in a town full of excellent places to spend your money to have someone else prepare your food keeps Hillstone at the top of a short list of favorite places to eat in Big D. On our latest visit, salmon, prime rib and an excellent wine made for a very enjoyable evening. The leftovers even travelled well to Amarillo the next day for a yummy Round 2 dinner. No wait. No worries. And just as good the second time around a few hundred miles away.

Love, love, love this place. Ask if the grilled artichokes are in season. If so, they are a must! If not, the spinach artichoke dip is a consistent favorite. Favorite salads are the Thai Noodle or the Club. These are large entree salads and can't be beat. Ribs are fall off the bone delicious too.

Who shows up to Hillstone at 4:00 pm? Apparently a fair number do! I was surprised (pleasantly) that the bar area was bustling mid/late afternoon when I decided to venture in for a late/late lunch or very early dinner. Skipping the crunch at the bar itself, I sat at a side table instead (although I would also have been welcome in the main dining area). Service was exceptional but no water was offered, nor automatically delivered. I enjoyed their fabulous Gulf Coast fish sandwich, lightly fried but semi-crispy on the outside, perfectly tender and flaky on the inside. It comes on a really fresh bun, toasted, with a scoop of the most fabulous slaw imaginable. I decided to add in ketchup but you don't need to (and the chef probably winces that I did this). I loved the flavors. The dish comes with a small side (on the main plate) salad nicely dressed to accentuate the fish as well. I also enjoyed a glass of a tasty New Zealand Savignon Blanc wine, a bit on the pricey side at $13. All told, I was set for the evening and very satisfied with my experience.

A disaster from the moment we talked in through the entire meal and quality of food and service. We should have walked out! And to make matters even worse, the restaurant is dirty. I went to the ladies room and walked buy the kitchen and was disgusted and grossed out! As a number of other reviews have said here -- stay away!

I am a huge fan of the Hillstone group, as I love Gulfstream in Newport Beach - so I had to try Hillstone. I was not disappointed at al! Got there around 5:30 on Monday and was able to get two sets at the bar. The atmosphere was great and the food was just as good! The menu is very similar to the other restaurants in their group, but I am not complaining. The shrimp are so good! You won't find better shrimp in town. Go here for the food and atmosphere. If you want a bar-area table I recommend getting there earlier then you plan, and you may have to wait even then. But the main dining room seemed to have seating available. Treat yourself and come here often!

Went for lunch on Saturday 2:00P.M. Saturday is the only chili day. Not specified on the menu. My wife and I each ordered a bowl of chili with a house salad. She had an ice tea. I had water. The chili came (half a bowl) the salad came on a small oval side plate 1/3 the size of the plate with a teaspoon of dressing. Total bill was $42.00 Checking the prices of other menu items we noticed they were also higher. Example a side order of parmesan toast is $8.00 A burger is $16.00 The kicker is that we ate the week before at Hillstone/Houston's on Beltline in N. Dallas and had the same thing at a lesser price by $6.00 but more important was the fact that the bowl served was a full bowl and the salad was 3x bigger. Obviously we will not eat at the Preston road restaurant.

Amazing food, Texas-sized portions, excellent service, plenty of parking nearby. What's not to like?!

I have dined here for the past 15 years. Tonight was my last time to visit this location. We had the absolute worst service. I ordered tea my husband orders a drink from the bar. We got our spinach dip delivered before we ever got our drinks they took over 15 mins. The delivered the spinach dip with no plates we relayed them 2 different times. We finally got those and ordered our meals. They never removed anything dirty plates from the table. I had to ask 3 different times for another ice tea. My husband also had to ask for water. I started to get annoyed but gave the server some grace. My ribs were cold when served again I ate them and didn’t say a word. I was never brought a towel to clean my hands ( I don’t know if they do this any more but have for years). Finally I stopped a lady and asked to speak to a manager. She proceeded to go tell the server , then another server and he manager finally showed up after a good 10 mins. Keep in mind all these plates and empty glasses are still on the table. I explained the “some not all “ to the manager he didn’t seem to care and said “would you like me to take these plates?”. I said yes please. They lost a very good customer I visit this place for business and personal but I won’t be back. The compete disinterest from the manager is he main reason. Management makes or breaks a restaurant and that location needs to review who is working on a Saturday evening. I still tipped the server This may not be the career for her but she won’t receive the “coaching” she needs from that manager. That’s unfortunate because those were some simple “fix” situations.

I have been to Hillstone a couple times before and enjoyed the food, but unfortunately did not have a great experience this time. I had gone online and made a reservation with Resy for a business lunch (a couple weeks earlier,) but when our clients arrived today they were told reservations could not be made and the wait was 45 mins. It was disappointing and a bit embarrassing, especially considering I received not only a confirmation email right after making the reservation, but also a confirmation text the day of.

Always fantastic food. Drinks wonderful. Great for couples or families. Always impressive. Strongly recommend ribs, filet, Hawaii style ribeye, Thai Steak Salad and of course French Fries!!

Amazing service as usual. My daughter had a salad and loved it. I almost always get a French dip here and at Houston's. I was disappointed this time. Maybe they sliced the end of the meat but I had a lot of dark pieces that but the flavor I'm so use to having way off ;( I've probably had 10 French dips at various Houston's/hillstone locations.

I loved the experience of eating at Hillstone. Came for dinner on three occasions and once for lunch during my trip to Dallas. The ribs, steak, are so good. Cooked to perfection. The wine was great and the atmosphere of the place all made it a great experience.

Had lunch here with colleagues. We arrived just after 11.00 a.m so it was easy to get a table but by the time we left the restaurant was packed. Fabulous Tuna salad and he portion size was perfect.

Bad experience with their new manager Wes. I’ve been dining their for 20+ years and asked him if he could please be so kind to cut the hickory burger into 4 pieces. His answer was “never have and never will “ Such a rude and arrogant answer. I mentioned they have cut the hickory burger for me every time I have asked for it. They need new staff and ones whom actually appreciate their client base. One would think that during COVID-19 Pandemic they would go above and beyond to service their customers well. To make matters worse they brought me the wrong entree and made no attempt to rectify their errors. I spoke with Emily the new GM there and she gave me the usual canned answer one would expect from a lower grade restaurant. I really have had better experiences at places like Wing Stop or even Chik-Fila. I spoke with their guest relations who also made no attempt to correct the issue and simply gave me some “lame” response about using this as an experience to better train their staff. What they should have done was offer to make situation right. Even something as simple as a refund on the burger they screwed up would have been a nice gesture. They clearly care about their profits only. It will be a long time before I ever decide to come back to this restaurant.

My son just graduated from Austin college and will miss the frequent trips to hillstone. Arguably the best burger I have had. They had the best rotisserie chicken sandwich, bar none, before they removed it from the menu. Wish you would bring it back. I Sure miss it. It's been awhile but the memory is still fresh in my mind. I was traveling out to Sherman almost weekly during basketball season to watch my son play. Every trip required a stop at Hillstone. In the probably 40 times over 4 years that I stopped at Hillstone I was never disappointed. It was consistently good every time. The jalapeños were fresh and usually very hot. The fries amongst the best I've had. I like hop doddy as well but when it came time to decide which place to go, it always ended up being Hillstone. I will miss seeing my son play and hanging with friends and Hillstone in that order.

I've been to hillstone probably 50 times the service there has gone from pretentious but high caliber to just gross. It's become intolerable. While Hillstone runs a polished operation life's too short and won't be back certainly not by choice.

My daughter was in town visiting for the weekend and this was her only choice for the day. This is my second favorite restaurant, If you know the company that owns Hillstone, the Houstons (Houstons is my Favorite) menu is better. Her visit to town made me think that I should do a few of these around the homestead. This is my first review that I have done in Dallas and I'm glad it for here. Is Hillstone the best or most expensive restaurant in town? No, but is it is the best everyday, good tasting and making you feel like you got a good meal? Hell Yea. Do they have the best salads? Yes. Best restaurant chili? Yes (Saturdays Only). Best Danish pork ribs? Believe it or not yes! Its all good, Hamburgers, steaks and especially the fish of the day. Is the food always the freshest? Yes. And lastly is it always consistent? Yes. If your visiting Dallas and want a great meal (and don't mind waiting an hour for a table)(no reservations taken), you should really give them a try.

Although Hillstone without a reservation is typically impossible to get into, especially on a weekend, if you are just 2 - 4 people and willing to walk in at 9 pm or after, there are tables to be had with no wait. My spouse and I went for a later evening snack, to split one salad and a California burger, and with one exception, were very pleased. Service was excellent. The split Traditional Salad was delicious especially when paired with the vinaigrette dressing. And the burger arrived immediately after the salad course, really beautiful to look at and perfectly cooked. Very tasty preparation, loved the honey mustard dressing. The only downside was the drink I ordered. For an upscale restaurant in Preston Center, I was underwhelmed by the stingy pour of vodka on the rocks. Clearly it was one jigger, and nothing extra (Titos) for a not-so-cheap $12 price. The bartender can do better than that. Thus, my rating is 4 stars, not 5 stars.

The weather was perfect this week for patio enjoyment. As always the service and food met all expectations. It’s not often that the staff has been working at the same place for many years but this place seems to have no problem with retention. Neighborhood gem. Thanks again for a fun evening.

Was my favorite restaurant. Not any more. The food is still great....if what you want is available. The hostess was dismissive and not very eager to please. We waited almost two hours to be seated. Lost me as a cuatomer

Came for a late lunch with my husband and was surprised by the quality of the food. I had the fish sandwich which was served on an apparently house-baked bun $ topped with coleslaw. One of the best fish sandwiches I’ve had—very crisp fish and the coleslaw had some shredded kale in it which gave it a nice crunch. A small green salad came as a side. Husband had the cheeseburger also on a homemade bun. Meat was cooked order and topped with cheddar. Very tasty. Both are large and could be split. Service was attentive and low key. One negative was that the kitchen was slow. Decor is sort of modern woodsy with stone and thin wood beams. Seems to have a good bar which is at one end of the restaurant and is a large oval. Would return here.

This is one of my stop's every month while traveling to Dallas for business. They have the BEST - PRIME RIB ever!! A great place for happy hour and food. MUST STOP This is located near SMU Campus

Had to wait 45 minutes for a booth so had drinks on the patio which were big and tasty. Our dinner was delicious - wife had tenderloin salad and I had the tuna salad. The tuna was maybe the best I've ever had! Service very good

Such great staff and service. Everyone was sweet. Quick service as well. My wife and I got the salmon app and we got the ribs and filet steak. It was all so good and cooked perfect.

We celebrated my sister 60th birthday! The food was excellent the salmon has a taste that I have never experienced. Our server was Michelle and she was so patient, kind and gave such excellent Customer Service. I will return and I also want to thank the manager Ashley for acknowledging the wait time. Thank you Hillstone!

Three of us dined here for a girls' Saturday lunch. Everything was perfect - the service, food, decor, and the best key lime pie I have ever tasted. Seriously, their key lime pie should be on your culinary bucket list, even if you don't like lime pie. This one will change your mind. I also had a chicken salad that was very good.

Arrived early on Friday evening at 5:45 and was told a 45 minute wait. We got a glass of wine at the bar and enjoyed the piano music and got a table in less time than it took to finish the wine. The salads are great as was the keylime pie. Nice place we will return.

I have dined here twice in the past week. Both the French dip and the rotisserie chicken are outstanding. The couscous served with both is creatively prepared and delicious. One of the best martinis I have enjoyed in Dallas.

Always good food and service. Enjoy the crisp clean atmosphere. Not cheap, but a good value! Never been disappointed in multiple visits.

So after my neck surgery and my dogs foot surgery I called to see if my dog could go to the patio. Phone answerer said yes. Server said yes and gave her water in a bowl (SHE WAS IN A CONE!!!) Then 20 minutes later the "manager" kicker her bowl with her foot and then tossed it in the bushes saying we violated ADA acts. This after $110 tab. I called the manager the next dayr and explained the situation. I have video and could have put it on social media! I chose not to. She sent me a $25 gift card. REALLY??? So on my friends urgence, we went back for LUNCH today...2 HOURS later for a veggie burger and a salad. I will never go back. The service and food are not worth the PC hype.

I hadn't eaten there in several years. I had forgotten how good a restaurant it is. We both had the soup of the day, "puried black bean soup." My entre was the sea bass, I had them put the sauces on the side. Under the bass was mozarella fried patties which were delicious. Also mashed potato swirls and zuchini. My husband had the trout with spinach and tomatoes. He said it was very tasty. They had a nice selection of wines, including 3 Pinot Noirs. I selected the best one, from a Russian Valley winery.

I have never been at a restaurant that is part of The Hillstone Group, in any state, that has staff that is as rude as this location. I haven’t written a review on any restaurant in my life and love this brand and their food, that is how bad it was. They need to let the entire bar staff go and start over. It was just an awful experience and I’ll never return.

Haven’t been here in a while. Forgot how relaxing and enjoyable this place is. The food is always perfection and the service top notch. What else to say, other than it’s always crowded, but at off times it can be fairly fast seating and a great in-hurried ambiance. Prices on par with area.

We found this absolutely gem of a place by accident, I’m from the UK- for me this is a typical American movie bar/restaurant. Staff are professional and friendly and the food is worth the flight time to Dallas alone, I’ve never had Idaho backed potato fully loaded before, this is the place to have it. The lunch sandwich’s are fantastic, good range of wine and beers, plentiful parking. If your heading to Dallas and looking for a classy place to eat this is the place for sure, we went twice....... The restaurant has large windows that open for the summer weather- I was there in January, but I could feel the summer atmosphere great patio seating. Makes me want to fly back all over again........

Never a bad meal here and many items to choose from. I like the chicken salad or the prime rib. But there is something here for every pallet. Great selection of wines. The ambiance is great and the service impeccable.

This is a great place for Happy Hour!! The drink selection is amazing and the appetizers are very delicious! We even shared the crab cake salad that was so good too! The environment was very nice and the staff and service very incomparable! Love this place!

Love the food and the wait staff but the front desk... an entirely a different story... We eat there frequently but the past 2 weeks has been a mess.... We were told last night that the wait time was 1 hour which we reluctantly accepted... after 1 hours and 30 minutes and with everyone around us seated, we were wondering what is going on... This has happened twice this week!!! They accept a few reservations as well and generally that is the excuse code but they have to do better.... As much as we love their food, i will not wait for any food service for 1 and half hours ever again.... Disappointing!!!!!!

This is the old Houston's with all the familiar menu items one might expect. The food is always solid and the wait time is usually pretty significant. If you want to skip the queue, sit at the bar.

I love the Hillstone Group. I moved from California a year ago and loved to go to Gulfstream in Newport Beach and Rutherford Grill in the Napa area. When on my first trip to the Hillstone restaurant in Dallas, I was so excited that they had the Prime Rib Sandwich that was on the menu at the Rutherford Grill. It was a good as I remembered! I have been back at least once a month this past year to get that fabulous sandwich. Everything on the menu is fabulous!
Very Accomodating
The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We had a situation which made us at least 30min late for our reservation and when I called, they were very reassuring that it would be fine. As soon as we finally arrived with our 91yr old mother- they were able to get us seated in no more than 10 minutes, which was very much appreciated with our elderly mom. The hostess and the staff were very accommodating and made our moms birthday a very nice experience, after it started so awful. The food is always exceptional and ambiance is perfect. Thank you for helping make her 91ST birthday so enjoyable!
