Great ramen place

By Yongki |

If you like ramen, you would enjoy what this place offers. Great ramen variety and delicious too. Price is about average for the area. Serving is quick and courteous.

Delicious but Waitstaff Not Attentive

By S28A |

My sister and I were visiting SF and were in Chinatown for dinner. Because it was cold and getting darker, we looked up reviews for places we were near at the moment and found this for its great reviews and being so new. Cute spot and perhaps because it had only opened that week, the waitstaff was not as attentive as they should be. We waited a long time between being getting seated and being asked our orders. The prices were comparable to most Ramen places. We like the place, we just thought it was a very long wait - hopefully that was a one-time fail. The hot towels and modern bathroom (bide) were a bonus! We recommend this place.

Best ramen!

By Shimmergrl |

I went to the O'Farrell location in Union Square and it was the best ramen I've ever had! The ordering process is seamless where you order and pay on your phone and they bring it right to your table. I loved the ramen so much I went two nights in a row!

YUM - SLURP THAT RAMEN

By MelGlee |

One of the best ramen I have had and right in the heart of Japantown. Service was fast and friendly, meals on point, well priced and good atmosphere. Was just what we needed after a big day exploring the city and will certainly be back!

A real find

By FuzzyCouple |

Atmosphere is excellent. Get there early and/or be prepared to wait in line, it's worth it. The service was superior, coordinated, and consistent. Not only are the various broth types of the ramen well represented, but the ingredients were all executed well. The only tiny flaw for me was in the noodles, which were smoother and thicker than I typically enjoy. Additionally, all the appetizers and non-ramen dishes were fabulous; we enjoyed them so much, we kept ordering just to check them out. We left stuffed and happy.

Great Ramen

By Hitcher84 |

Indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outdoors. Scan the QR code to pull up the menu and order. They have a handful of appetizers and another handful of ramen type. Two are vegetarian. We got the Zen ramen and the corn butter miso ramen. Both were amazing. We also had the spicy edamame. Definitely good. Several sake, Japanese beer, tea, and soft drink choices. Definitely recommend this place.

Much better than Mensho

By Yuri K |

Don't wain in line at Mensho. Instead, head for Hinodeya. First of all, Hinodeya's ramen is much much better, the broth and the noodle are much superior than Mensho. Second, the wait is not long. I would'nt wait for Mensho's ramen even it's free. Third, they do not charge automatically the service charge and you receive better service. Fourth, we do not have to rush to enjoy the food like Mensho. Finally, their menu has more dishes than just ramen. The fried Hiroshima oysters were also delicious. So, Hinodeya is the answer to get the best ramen in San Francisco. (I didn't check all Hakata style ramen places because I don't like tonkotsu broth.)

Creamy Vegan Ramen - Super Unique, Must Try!

By TJB |

Wow, that creamy ramen is no joke, it's delicious. So rich! I showed up Saturday evening and ended up waiting about 30mins in line, but it was totally worth the wait. The tofu cake in my creamy ramen was great, the green noodles we're a great touch, and the broth was just soooo flavorful. On top of everything, the servers were all super nice and very responsive. This is my new favortie ramen spot in the City.

Worth it

By BillRhodeIsland |

We saw a line of locals in front and joined them. I was not hungry, but everything my wife ordered was worth it. I did have desert and it was fantastic. A little pricey, but worth it.

Excellent from start to finish

By leschgk |

Had lunch here on a Thursday. No waiting. Friendly greeting and service. Started with the Shishito Peppers. Wonderful, flavorful, just spicy enough. Entree was Hinodeya Ramen. Great umami flavor. Finished with Kuro-Goma ice cream (black sesame seed). So unusual and yummy! This place will be at the top of the list for our next visit to San Francisco.

Ok

By luca m |

Good ramen and friendly staff. Location small but ok. Good value for money considering those of San Francisco. It's okay

Small, quaint lunch

By Sara B |

Went here for lunch on a Monday. Did not have a wait. Tables are community style, so we were seated with 4 strangers. We didn't mind, but they seemed to. Shishito peppers were not cooked enough. I like them a little burnt. The niku miso has a very strong, pungent taste/smell. They did allow us to split a ramen dish into two bowls. We did the hinodeya ramen which was delish. Not the best ramen I've ever had, but it was pretty good!

Vegan friendly!

By Tutti W |

Delicious Zen vegan Ramen and Creamy Vegan Ramen, generous servings. Also had gyoza and was not disappointed!

Authentically delicious

By callucan |

Right at the entrance to Japantown from Sutter St., this is their 1st location outside Japan. Great young servers, reasonable (particularly for San Fran. dining!), the real ramen bowls without flying 3000 miles! Don't let a line outside discourage you. It moves quickly, yet once seated you are never rushed. My adult son, husband & I had 3 different types, all delicious. A must dish to share are the shishito peppers!

Great ramen

By Wilson L |

Great ramen to check out for late night ramen. The service was fast and friendly and the food was great. Definitely will be back again if I'm in SF again.

Superb ramen

By Scott M |

Hinodeya has some of the best ramen I've had in a while. The house ramen uses an unusual dashi-based broth, with plenty of kombu and dried scallop for extra extra umami. The noodles are flavorful and super "snappy". The house ramen came with two fat slices of house-made char siu, which was fatty and delicious. Truly a first-class bowl of ramen. The service was very nice and very fast as well.

Delicious ramen in the heart of Japantown

By elockland |

My partner and I ate here last month while exploring Japantown and we loved the ramen here! I ordered the chicken ramen with the lowest level of spice and it was delicious. They also offer vegetarian ramen options. Would definitely return again when in SF!

Great atmosphere; very good Ramen

By myklrl |

The atmosphere here really seals the deal. Very fun and appropriate for couples, families, or solo. The ramen was great; the selection is a bit limited. I also wished they had a spicy ramen but I do understand that’s not really necessary. Prices were as expected and the service was on par with what you find in Tokyo - which is today, excellent.

Complex broths highlight the seasonal offerings.

By TravellingTotoro |

Our go to place for lunch every month. This is the US outpost of a 15-seat Japanese restaurant that first opened its doors in 1885 in the eastern part of Saitama. Check out the website for the rest of the autobiographical details. Fast forward to San Francisco's Japantown where they opened a "wafu" (Japanese taste would be the literal translation) Ramen shop. Unlike so many recent entries to Ramen, the dash-broth is both subtle and complex. No, pork bones were not stewed for days. There is the "house" ramen which includes menma (pickled bamboo shoots), Chasua (cured, then roasted pork); chicken ramen and "zen" ramen--perfect for vegetarians (and vegans if the soft yolk egg is omitted.) There is also seasonal ramen such as clam or another vegetarian offering that has a rich soy milk broth. The noodles have the right give and chew. The toppings integrate well with the broth. And yes, you can also add things if you really want to make it your own. Appetizers include menma, Hiroshima fried oysters, karage (Japanese chicken nuggets.) Often there is a line that starts queueing 10-30 minutes before the restaurant opens. Reservations are not taken, bu there are many seating options--counter, community table and small tables.

One word .... Excellent

By Colin G |

The pork/chicken dumplings (gyoza) were amazing and so were the creamy and house ramen dishes. Service was great. Busy for Thursday night. Would certainly go back.

They have vegan ramen! Nice and clean joint.

By Akiko O |

They have vegan ramen, which is great for me because my partner is vegetarian. Even though I love ramen so much I can eat it any time of the day, unless there's vegan/vegetarian ramen, I can't pick a ramen joint when we are deciding where to eat. (Actually more and more ramen joints in SF have been starting vegan ramen, which is fantastic. I hope that will happen in Japan too so I can eat ramen in Japan with my partner!!) We went to Hinodeya for lunch on a weekend when we were in the area. We didn't have to wait because we were fine to eat at a communal table. The communal table was not a problem at all. Service was great. Everybody was nice and friendly. I enjoyed clam ramen with an egg added. I would not say I loved it, but I'm happy to go back and try another ramen when we are in the area. My partner enjoyed vegan ramen.

Very authentic ramen

By meow_10 |

They are one of the few restaurants that were open in Japantown on New year's eve. They were busy, but the service was quick, yet we didn't feel rushed. Karaage was huge! One order was enough for 3 of us to share. The ramen was cooked to perfection. Not too soggy, not too chewy. The broth was light but had deep complex flavor. It might not be sufficient for those who like greasy ramen broth, but this was just perfect for us.

Authentic Ramen

By Mike F |

A nice little Ramen. The Ramen noodles were excellent and the flavor was perfect. I also had some fried tofu which was amazing.

Authentic, fun spot for gatherings

By Sheslakeside |

Having been to Japan, I think this is authentic Japanese food 🥘. They are known for ramen but have other options too. You sit down and order online. The staff brings the meal to your table. Very easy. All 3 of us thought the Ramen was very good and staff was busy serving all of us well. I ordered a vegetarian ramen that was delicious. We recommend the curry. We’ll be back!

Just perfect.

By devege |

Stepped in for a ramen lunch in Japan town. The style, bustle, happily shouting waiters ... makes for a very welcome atmosphere. I did the sake tasting for 10 USD. A must do. A unique occasion to sample 3 different high quality sakes. One for before the meal, one during the meal and one after the meal. You have to try this. Every one knows wine tasting but there is so much to sake that most of us are not aware of. Sublime. Then the ramen. I just had the house version and it was difficult to fault. Just very good tasting broth, just enough, nice noodles, pork, egg, spring onions, ... all very fresh. All in all, Hinodeya gets two thumbs up from me. Value for money ... Oh yes, how did I select this place? Before noon there was already a long line waiting outside ... always a good sign ... probably the secret is out too. Hinodeya is appreciated by many others.

Pleasant surprise

By Stefano L |

Pleasant surprise: cozy, young and with excellent cuisine. You order with the phone from the table. Highly recommended

Great Ramen!

By passenger904 |

My favorite ramen place is Monta Ramen in Las Vegas but Hinodeya Ramen in Japan Town San Francisco is a very close second. Great presentation. Nice flavor. Good texture of noodles. The restaurant has a really nice ambience. Highly recommended.

Best vegan ramen I’ve ever had

By mariah jo |

Hands down, this was the best vegan ramen I’ve had so far! I got the vegan ramen and it came with a delicious creamy broth. I dream about this ramen almost daily now. Sooo good! We also got the shishito peppers made vegan, which made them a little bland, because I guess the sauce is what makes them not vegan? Maybe they have a different kind of sauce you can dip it in, otherwise I don’t recommend the shishito peppers if you are vegetarian/ vegan. My (vegetarian) boyfriend had the black sesame ice cream afterwards, and said it was really good! **expect to wait in line to eat here. The line was out the door just past the restaurant when we came, but it went by pretty quickly. Maybe 20-30 minutes you will wait. But worth it!

Get The House Ramen

By CreateSF |

We go to Japan Town a lot for udon noodles but were craving ramen. On Buchanan Street (across street from main Japan Town mall) there are no less than 4 ramen houses! Which to choose? Hinodeya had a placard that they were voted best ramen 2018! We chuckled because 2018 is only half over and you could not tell who bestowed this accolade! Still, it was full so must be good! You could tell as soon as you entered that it was good! The sound of a full room of people slurping was the proof! And you could see people eating so many different types of Ramen. We went for the house ramen and the chicken appetizers. It was flavorful and very very high quality broth and noodles. They also serve beer, wine, sake and spirits. The service was slow at the beginning, and the line starts forming at noon so get there by 11:30 or be prepared for a wait.

Amazing Ramen!

By Brandon Godward |

Amazing ramen, easily the best I've had outside of Japan. Everything was delicious, and I love that you can customize each bowl with different spice levels, some extremely spicy. The vegan ramen was great as well. Busy place. QR code for ordering. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Great food, ridiculous paying method

By M Hagens |

Ramen is delicious! Also had sides (spring rolls and dumplings) which where also amazing. Great atmosfear inside. There is only one thing that bothers me, and which i DESPISE. They want you to order via an online menu (nothing wrong with that) and pay upfront (also nothing wrong with that). But you also need to pay the tip UP FRONT.. I haven't even had service yet and you ask me to tip.. I knew american tipping culture was toxic but this is downright ludicrous..

Cozy ramen spot

By Tyrant37 |

A cozy ramen bar , limited seating with amazing ramen . This place serves some of the best ramen I’ve ever had. They had two vegan options ( if that’s your jam) I ordered the creamy vegan that was very flavorful and the serving is plenty. They had a variety of ramen with dashi broth or the traditional tonkotsu broth. A plethora of toppings . Do know the space is tight but if you do have to wait it is worth it.

The Place for Real Ramen!

By PhilViking |

We had a great lunch and returned a few days later for dinner it was so good. The Hinodeya Ramen, with a side of Gyoza was perfect for our mid-day meal. Seasoning and textures were perfect. The mochi ice cream topped it all off well. Service was good and the place is always busy. Waits are short, however.

Authentic, lived up to the hype

By Sharon D |

I have walked by at least 6 times but have never gone in because I never had the patience to wait in line. Everyone says the line moves quickly since ramen is a kind of Japanese fast food. Thursday I was in Japantown for a meeting so was the first in line at 4:45. By 5:15 every in line was in the door so getting there before 5:30 works on a weekday. Had the House ramen and it was perfect. A light, thin Dashi style broth that was the perfect balance of flavors. Excellent example of Umami. The ramen was toothy and chewy as it should be. The menma bamboo shoots were well flavored and the brown Japanese style chasiu delicious. A gummy egg and fresh spinach finished also in the bowl My friend had the clam ramen (limited number of bowls produced a day) and pronounced it superb. We also ordered the vegetable kara age which was delicious as an appetizer As mentioned earlier, viewing ramen as a grab and go meal in Japan, having to pay $15-$20 for a bowl is always a bit of a shock but by San Francisco standards, this is a normal price for a sit down restaurant serving excellent food. Service was fine - a bit rushed but very competent. Interior design is attractive.

A true quality Japanese restaurant

By Bernard Arlon |

Excellent staying Really Japanese with very few dishes but it is fine, tasty and at a very reasonable price. The staff is friendly.

Top Marks Ramen

By Brian D |

My friend that lives in the City recommended this new ramen restaurant. She said it was the best in the City and I actually would have to agree. There was a wait that had us standing outside for awhile (bring a coat). It is definitely worth the wait. The environment is casual, a little cramped, but comfortable enough. The staff is very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The menu had a good selection of choices from starters, beers, sake to the main dish. Portions are very good so we didn't have room for dessert, which is available. I highlyrecommend Hinodeya.

Awesome Ramen restaurant with great service and vegan options

By 907blaked |

We really enjoyed our meal here and would happily recommend this to others. We especially appreciated that they had a few vegan options for the vegan person in our group, but yet the rest of us could have non-vegan food. There was a wait when we got there, so we just signed into the waitlist out the front door, and it only took about 10 minutes for our table to be ready, even with our large group of seven. The food was delicious!

Great Ramen!

By Barton21 |

Was staying just down the street, so strolled over to this pedestrian mall to look for a place to eat. There were lots of options in the area, but this place seemed to have the most action on an otherwise quiet Wednesday evening. Even though the place was almost full, I was warmly greeted at the door and given the option to sit at the dining bar. Ordered the House Ramen, which was really delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh and of high-quality. Received many friendly smiles from the various staff as they passed by. Really enjoyed the food and felt very welcome, even though I was dining alone that night!

Labeled vegan raman

By Jill K |

I went to Hinodeya, as menu showed clearly marked vegan food. We had the crispy fried mountain yams appetizer (looked like potatoes) in horseradish-sesame sauce, which was outstanding. Creamy ramen had large serving of noodles with big tofu cake that was tasty. No wait, service excellent, $23 for two dishes . I'll be back.

excellent ramen

By Michy584 |

Authentic taste, quality product, only the vegan one taken by my wife could be tastier while mine which is then the most popular exceptional! Average San Francisco costs! would definitely stay there again

Overpriced noodles with clear soup

By EuForia_01 |

This new ramen joint was recommended by a friend who said that lines are forming outside nightly. Well, there is a 1/3 chance you'll be asked to sit at counter or at shared tables. The main dining hall is bright with simple Japanese touches, it's clean and pleasant. The menu is not extensive, it features mostly ramen noodles with clear stock made supposedly from dashi - tuna or bonito flakes soup. This is different from other ramen places that use meat based brothers- pork or chicken. Dashi is usually supplemented with MSG. The food tastes fine, not superb, but $15 for noodles with 1 thin slice of pork and half a coddled egg? Or a handful of clams? Service is brisk and good....

Enjoyment to the Fullest

By Lance A |

While visiting San Francisco we were staying at a hotel right around the corner from this little gem. Looking for something different, my son (who eats ramen from a package) said, “hey let’s go there” think it was the same as he ate at home-lol. So our party of 4 entered the restaurant and were greeted immediately. We asked to sit in the window seating area so we could watch people pass by as we ate. The restaurant was very clean and the wait staff fairly understandable. A little language barrier but English was completely understood. In fact, it was nice to have staff that were accustomed to the culture. We ordered dumplings that were sooooo good! In fact, we ordered two orders of them because my boys ate them before we could get any. The menu item were very clear in what was in them (important as some of the item were culture foods that I didn’t know). We ordered and asked if some item could be left off and they were. Everything camp out exactly as ordered and we all enjoyed our meal very much. The bowls had more than enough and we all left full and satisfied. If you get a chance, go here and ask for the window seat-you never know what you might see...

Japanese taste and feeling

By VenetaLora |

First time in SF and first place to eat... amazing food, service and atmosphere. We arrived 10 mins before last order taking, and while still on waiting line and over end of the day, we had the best ramen so far outside of Japan! If you stay close by or crave for Japanese ramen, don't miss this place!

Vegan Ramen is Killer!

By Aredmond110 |

Holy heck, this is yummy vegan ramen. Also had the fried peppers and green tea ice cream. All of it was delicious. Give it a go - I hear the meaty stuff is good too.

A solid ramen place

By Miriam Z |

Quite typical Japanese ramen. Thick soup for chicken ramen, and very light soup for the housemade signature ramen. There are two small wings in the chicken ramen with some seaweed and one half egg. I wish they would offer spicier bowels of ramen instead of the 3 non-spicy alternatives. Customer service was very nice. It was welcoming and friendly.

Disappointing Ranen

By Boris Y |

This is one of the more popular ramen restaurants in San Francisco’s Japan Town. Four of us had lunch there recently. We ordered fried yam, gyoza and ramens. The soup of ramen was disappointing. The meat and vegetable were nothing special. The noodle looked and tasted awfully similar to Chinese handmade noodles, called ‘Ramen’.

Great tasty fresh food

By Jacky C |

Lovely fresh tasty food and great service - friendly and quick. Clean toilets. Open late. Friendly staff

Best Ramen I have ever had

By Lara |

Cutest little place in Japan town that serve such amazing food!! The staff are the sweetest and the food came very quickly! Had the vegan ramen and it blew me away!! So many wonderful flavours and a large serving too! Would 100% recommend.

So good I ate twice in one day

By Erin D |

I came here and had the House ramen bowl and could not get enough of it! Generous portion and so so good. I talked my husband into going back for dinner. He had the chicken ramen this time and I tasted it and yum, also very very good.

good luck with service

By Nykole T |

the worst customer service I have ever experienced in SF and will never eat there again! They brought out the vegan bowl with nothing detailed and I was told I had to pay for the correct bowl.

A friendly restaurant in Japantown

By stellem71 |

We were greeted with a collegial hello to the sound of the drum. Very original! Nice Service. Modest menu but good quality dishes. Discovery of mochi ice cream!

Craving Ramen

By marisailormoon |

After work I was absolutely starving,so I headed to Hinodeya. The last time I went they ran out of ramen so I was turned away. This time I heard they closed at 10 so maybe I could grab some . I tried to call ahead to make a reservation but they do not take them. Now ,I might really have a chance I thought. I headed there and lucky the line was short for a Sunday . After 15 minute wait. I was seated. I ordered the Hinodeya Ramen (their specialty),Aburi Chasu( grilled pork) and a yuzu(citrus) soda. I was sad to see they offered oshibori to people across my table but I was never offered one😞 maybe I had to request it? Anyhow, after server took my order I went to wash my hands. It was a nice clean, toilet by the way. The Aburi Chasu arrived and it looked super yummy , so I tried it Chasu had unfortunately too much shiracha , the flavor was totally hidden as my tongue got numb by the spice. So I tried as best as I could to remove it. After removing shiracha is was better. Then I received my yuzu drink sour and very sparkly so it help a bit with the heat. After I got my Ramen, soup was clear and the noodles are hand made definitely delicious. Specially when you add the umami spices that are set at the table. Ramen Taste I would say 3 1/2 stars as the Chasu in the ramen was a bit dry. Chasu 4 stars if no shiracha added. Boiled eggs 5 stars , super yummy. At the end of your meal you get a cute sticker that says I love Dashi.

A visit is a must

By Gl0betr0tter_NYC |

The ramen is properly cooked and chewy. The soup base is delicious with the right balance, not too salty as most miso soup base.

Vegan Ramen

By NDP |

Super small and busy restaurant. No reservations and they don’t take names. Basically just stand in line until seated. We didn’t wait too long. Only tried the creamy vegan ramen which was delicious. They only carry Japanese soda also. Nice little restaurant across the street from Hotel Kabuki.

Fresh Ramen responsibly priced

By Bonnie C |

We wanted ramen nearby and this restaurant is close. Convenient parking nearby, and no wait to be seated. We had a late lunch. I ordered a chicken ramen and my husband ordered the beef ramen. You can add extras for minimal cost. You also can add "spice" for a nominal fee. I added 2 slice, which was perfect for me. One item to note, we don't use much salt, I didn't think the ramen was too salty, but my husband did. Service was quick and efficient, so I recommend

Ramen in San Francisco

By melania g |

Exquisite Ramen and super friendly staff. We had dinner at the counter because it was very full, but I was very fast. Local with excellent value for money. We will definitely be back.

Decent. Busy.

By Brian L |

Back in San Francisco after maybe ten years. Staying in Japantown, so it was only logical that I would come for a late supper on my first night in town. I failed to realize that I was doing my California trip over Labor Day weekend, and the crowd was crazy! They have a cute little podium in the front of the restaurant where you put your name in the queue. I think because I was traveling alone, so alone, it was to my advantage? I did wait a while, but their estimate is amazingly accurate. When I got my 'table ready' text, the hostess was apologetic for it being crowded, and I got the single seater all the way in the back of the restaurant. All ordering is done via the app; not sure if that was due to the crowds or if that is normal, but it is the Japanese way. Don't talk to me! No human interaction!! You know how Shishitos are generally mild, but then you get that one pepper that slaps you in the face? That happened. The Spicy Miso Ramen really hit the spot. I think their default spice level is perfect to enjoy while still having a hint of heat. The Coke Zero was exceptionally tasty. Kudos! Would I come back? Yes. Am I convinced this is the best ramen ever? No.

Alternative Ramein Flavor, delicious and refined

By TESLA_12 |

Tried this Ramein place since it was highly recommended. I have never tried this type of Ramein that is made with a seafood stock base instead of the traditional chicken and pork base. I had the Hinedeya Ramein and it was very nice. But for starters I ordered Shishito and the Hinodeya Salad, just so I could get some green vegetables while traveling. How different can such simple fare be? They were truly excellent. The wonderful stock they use for the noodles was used to subtley flavor the shishito instead of the normal fish flakes and the simple yuzu scented dressing on the fresh mizuna salad just made the vegetable sing brightly. I would go back for these two dishes everynight.

So good!

By Michelle J |

Really good ramen noodles and sake. It was a bit confusing at first because no one takes your name down. There’s a line you need to wait in but the line moved super quickly.

Ramen Heaven

By John W |

Located in the heart of Japan town this well known Ramen house delivers an excellent experience. The dinning area is perfect in size for you to feel like you are in Japan enjoying a masters cooking. The food options are not huge but that's not a problem as we all loved our dishes. The pricing is very reasonable for the high quality food. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Great ambiance, shared seating, good service

By Daniel V |

ok, i dont want to complain, but I think I have to go again because I ordered wrong. First, the service was great. They seat you fast, so dont let the line discourage you. They have few ramen options and I chose the chicken ramen. BIG MISTAKE. It was ok. It had a very distinct flavor. Something that was confirmed by the couple sitting next to us. They mentioned that the house is the best and that the vegan option was better than the chicken.

Good Japanese restaurant for vegetarians!

By Coco L |

We had to wait for 30 minutes for our lunch but this place was surely not disappointing. I recommend their dumplings, which has both meat and vegetarian options. Same with ramen. The restaurant also has an outdoor sitting area.

Fine

By James C |

Nice sukiyaki beef ramen, good soup but pretty average chicken karaage. Batter was tough, and the meat quality was nothing to write home about. $60 for a ramen, chicken and small beer.

Best find in Japantown

By kyro |

Outstanding find. Came to SF for a family vacation and stayed in Japantown. Went to Hinodeya multiple times. Decor, service, and food all fantastic. Best vegan-friendly options in Japantown, as well.

Very good Rahmen

By Robert W |

Had the house dash style rahmen and the last was good but not the deep flavour I had in some other restaurants. Site dishes were fine and great selection of sake.

Must try - creamy ramen!

By Lily |

I ordered the creamy ramen vegan. It was very good! Was glad it was vegan as I am allergic to dairy. The ramen itself texture was quite unique. Firmer than most ramen I have eaten. Overall, good and value for money!

Great ramen and gyoza, open late!

By Katrina007007 |

We needed a late night bite and were thrilled to find this place. Ramen, gyoza, shrimp tempura were all excellent. Will be back the next time we are staying in Japantown. Or maybe tonight!

Excellent food, spicy and beef the Kings of the house

By Aldo Alejandro O |

Excellent service, and very good food, I recommend gyosas, spicy ramen and beef ramen, the best. If the app does not accept the electronic payment method, you may be charged by card or cash.

The most popular Ramen house in Japan town

By kmcfamily |

Great little restaurant with a food that lives up to its reputation. We ordered the house ramen with extra meat and were served by an experienced friendly staff. There was a line outside the door but we were seated pretty quickly.

Perfect quick lunch

By Rosetwig |

A welcome reprieve from over-priced hotel fare while staying nearby for a conference. Quick, friendly service, fairly priced excellent food. I opted for a rice bowl with beef and miso soup… both were great. I opted to sit outside; while the street is a tad grimy, it offered a glimpse of the cable cars on the cross street.

Unique authentic ramen

By Leah L |

We visited as we read that it was out of Tokyo authentic Ramen. The night before we walked by and there was a line out the door and well into the courtyard.. We went for lunch the next day and were quickly seated at a table for three. We got house ramen, spicy edamame and green gyoza. Walking into the restaurant it smelled fishy so we were worried the food would have a strong fishy taste. That was not the case, the Ramen itself was flavorful with umami and the ingredients were all fresh and delicious. The egg in the ramen was marinated well and perfectly soft boiled. The bamboo shoots were also marinated which was unusual and makes me want to replicate in my recipes. The noodles were cooked al dente and were obviously made by hand as they were a bit thicker than your average ramen and made with high quality ingredients. The gyoza was unique My only wish was it to have a bit of crisp too it but the flavor was delicious. The Spivey edamame had just the right level of heat and a nice garlicky finish. The serving sizes were generous and prices were as expected fir a quality bowl of ramen. It is situated at an edge of Japan Center with a walkthrough area beside it. There was a dog with sunglasses waiting for its owner outside which indicates a local and perhaps a regular. I still prefer tonkotsu broth but this is definitely lighter and I would have it to have variety with ramen. Highly recommend this place.

outstanding gyoza

By Edward D |

Excellent ramen with -- what tastes like to me -- homemade noodles. Fresh ingredients. Extraordinary gyoza -- again, in my opinion. Not to be missed ... but there is too often a line outside of this place. (I tried it because crowds have been down since the start of the pandemic.)

long lines, but a nice vegan ramen

By mt188 |

Lots of ramen shops have sprung in in San Francisco lately, and Japantown is not exempt from this trend. This is about the 4th new shop that has opened up in the past 4 years! It is a little different from typical ramen shops in both the US and Japan , in that it uses a dashi or bonito fish base broth, rather than pork. You might already be familiar with dashi, as it is used in other soups and sauces such as udon (think white noodles) and miso soup. But it is not an ingredient usually used in ramen! I have tried their house ramen, clam/seafood and vegan. My fav is their vegan, even if I am not vegan myself. The broth seems to be made from soy milk and sesame (maybe sesame oil? paste? the menu just says 'sesame', but I think they might use both, to get the creamy robust flavor). Since it is vegan, they might use a dashi broth based on kelp (konbu) and skip the bonito fish, but it is just a guess on my part. They use spinach noodles for the vegan version, and it is topped with fried kale (divine, and puts kale chips to shame), Japanese pumpkin (kabocha), a red bell pepper, ganmodoki (like a tofu fritter). It comes together well, and it is indeed delicious! The house ramen was only ok, and maybe it is because the ingredients are otherwise similar to other ramen, but by using the dashi, the ramen seemed on the thin side. The same could be said for their seafood ramen. The service is courteous and efficient, although the staff yell 'irrashaimase' (sometimes they mispronounced 'irrashaimassie', but I guess that is a minor point) whenever someone is seated, and that gets to be a bit disruptive if you are trying to have a nice dinner conversation. There are some nice sake selections on the menu (Kubota!!) and a very affordable sake flight that seems to change periodically. Interior is nicely appointed. It is not exactly cheap, if you are used to thinking of ramen as a kind of Japanese fast food, though. It goes anywhere from $13-20 a bowl, but we are used to paying more like $6-9 when in Japan or when we'd get ramen before the ramen craze swept the US! There is almost always a long line and wait, so get there early.

Really good ramen. Would recommend that you try. On par with some of the best that I’ve had in Toronto for sure! Extremely quick service and good ramen. Even level spicy is spicy so be careful!

A must go place for ramen lovers!

One of the best ramen I’ve ever had . I had the classic ramen and it was just perfect. A broth full of flavor , the noodles with a great texture and the chashu was delicious. I highly recommend this place! A must go place for ramen lovers like me 😉
