Hidden gem

By darla35 |

While in San Antonio on vacation we found The Hofbrau by accident. Its on the Riverwalk but hidden away in a corner by its self. The staff(Stephanie was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. By far the most fun we had on the Riverwalk.

Petty good

By Diana D |

Large variety of food and service is good. The entrees are just average. Had the bbq sandwich and it was ok. Hubby had the fish and didn't like the veggies served with it. However, for a beer garden it looks to be a popular spot to visit.

Great chicken fried steak

By rebecca m |

We ate here a year ago and got the chicken fried steak. We had to go there again to have the same dish. It comes with smashed potatoes and corn on the cob for which we substituted pinto beans. They have a number of sides which look good. We also had the jalapeño margarita. Ask for the white gravy on the side. Everyone looked like they were having fun. The restaurant is next to the Quarry, a nice shopping mall.

Very good steak

By Peter U |

An overall pleasant dinner. Great 12 oz steak - perfectly prepared, German Weissbeer, friendly waiter, great atmosphere. We really enjoyed it. Recommend it!

Nice selection of beer & margaritas

By Angie E |

I would definitely agree with other reviews saying this is a great place to have drinks with friends. They have a very good selection of beer on tap and dosaritas with various options on flavor of margarita and a beer or alcohol kicker. The food isn't bad, although it isn't really German fair so don't go expecting to have anything authentic. I recommend the pecan crusted chicken or a burger. Both good for the price and the portions are large. My BF and I didn't have a chance to really do the happy hour/hanging out with friends thing, but if I lived and worked in SA within proximity to Hofbrau, I could see myself enjoying payday happy hour here. Patio would be very nice during the fall. If you're visiting, it's worth a trip.

Drinks to Go along for your River walk adventure

By MsECostello |

Yes the drinks are a bit pricey however worth getting so that you can keep cool and refreshed along your journey of the river walk. They had live acoustic music going and staff dressed in their German attire. Always fun time at these locations. We grabbed our drinks, listened to a few songs, and continued with our site seeing. Would recommend. Tip: You can only keep your alcoholic drinks down by the River Walk and no where else.

Beyond Ordinary

By ALBALS1980 |

If you are tired of boring drink fads that all the other restaurants follow, then go to the Hofbrau! They put thought and originality into their margaritas and drinks and they change them often, as they are always thinking up new concoctions! It is the perfect place to relax with friends on their big outdoor patio!!!

Great spot at The Rim

By BigDaddyTex |

Food, drinks and service are all very good. Although the place is only a year or so old, they've redone the bar entry and added an additional outdoor bar. Live music on the weekends. Worth the tr.

This restaurant should rank in Top 10

By cbgfree |

Hofbrau is an off the tourist grid gold nugget well worth the approx. 6 mile drive up 281N from the Riverwalk to Quarry Market shopping/restaurant area (east side going north). The menu ranges from bar food to full course meals with comfortable, separate accommodations for watching a game over a beer or formal dining. There is also an outdoor beer garden. The name Hofbrau brings to mind a German eatery but not so. The menu features comfort food such as Chicken Fried steak, 2011 San Antonio best prize winner, burgers, pasta, etc. Perusing the menu set my taste buds a tingling. I selected the pork schnitzel topped with mushroom glaze. The cutlet was quick pan fried to perfection, moist and tender; the glaze was just more perfection to smack lips over. I substituted mashed potatoes for the cabbage. How often are mashed potatoes served from scratch with REAL bacon chips, not bits? After that delicious surprise I moved on to the vegetable medley which was another delectable dish; fresh produce, served crisp, seasoned just right. Yum what a feast! I couldn't resist dessert though my meal was more that adequate. I wish I had ordered the Texas Pecan Cobbler. I found the Bread Pudding a little over cinammoned and slightly on dry side. I am a little spoiled for bread pudding by a restaurant where I live so my assessment may be biased. The serving was for two so don't be put off by the price. Wait service was impeccable - immediate, friendly, helpful and attentive. Additionally, the manager stopped by to check on my satisfaction. Soup, meal and dessert with 20% tip was $25 (no drink). Try it, I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed.

Fun with good food

By Cristina423 |

Me and a couple of girlfriends came for dinner. I had the chicken & sausage pasta which was DELICIOUS! And we had a cider beer that was also very tasty! Most of the people around us were drinking margaritas with a beer upside down inside so I'd assume that's their specialty. But if anything, I recommend the cider beer! The atmosphere was fun and the waiter was a nice guy.

Great food!

By MarieAmanda |

We ate here for lunch. He had jäger schnitzel and I had the chicken fried rib eye. Both entrees were so good. Our waiter was also outstanding!

Blah...

By Jared V. |

This place has mastered the art of creating dish after dish of bland food. Nothing stood out. None of it was bad, but it wasn't great either. Mediocrity at its finest.

Nope

By Judy C |

Hofbrau is good for fried food, large, sweet drinks and average beer selection. They do have a large shaded patio that is good for happy hour. I can’t recommend any food selection as I never found anything I’d eat again. Go if a group of friends are going, have a drink and enjoy your buddies...otherwise I wouldn’t make the trip.

Oktoberfest style German beer garden on the riverwalk

By mvilla1986 |

Cute atmosphere since the waitresses wear German beer maiden outfits and the menu makes you feel like you are at Oktoberfest. Fried pickles are tasty and also got the coronarita. Cold beers and it's cute to sit at the benches by the riverwalk.

Nice Atmosphere

By LindanSAT |

The Hofbrau at the Quarry Market has an atmosphere a little like a hunting lodge with a very large fireplace and heavy tables and chairs. There are plenty of TV's for watching sports, and of course, plentry of beer choices. They also serve the Dosarita - a schooner of margarita with a bottle of beer dunked in it. Our party had the Pepper Jack Bacon Melt consisting of a burger with roasted jalapeno honey chipotle bacon, pepper jack cheese, fried onions & jalapenos on a japapeno cheddar sourdough bun. Huge, a little spicy, and very good. Also we had Honey Chipotle Bacon Burger - burger topped with honey chipotle bacon, fried onions, fried jalapeno strips on a toasted bun. This one is not spicy, but a whole mouth full of goodness. We will go back!

Childhood Memories

By Opinionated04 |

Let me start off by saying the Bomb Pop Dos-A-Ritas was the bomb.com. It tasted exactly like the Bomb Pop you could buy from the ice cream truck that would drive down your block when you were a kid. 😀 The brisket nachos were also very good and filling.

Horrible restaurant

By GEORGE M |

The food was terrible. Burgers over cooked and French fries under cooked. After the French growers sent back the outside was crisp and the inside uncooked. After showing this to the server no effort was made to lesson the terrible meal. Full price was paid. Later the manager came over to offer his card saying “ next time let me know and I’ll get you meal right. “ he said you already paid so he wasn’t going to do anything. I told him to keep his card we would NEVER be back. BTW there is nothing German about this place. Stay away!!

Dinner with friends

By bk27catlady |

Great food! Horrible parking situation. There was a large party so, it took a long time to get food. Tequila Lime Chicken, Poblano Rice & Black Beans are awesome!

Good Dinner!

By BSJ3258 |

Stopped by with a couple of co-workers. Had the fried rib eye and it was pretty good. The German potato salad was excellent. Very good service. A must stop if in the area.

What a awesome garden

By 502ericaf |

Just came over for drinks and some live music. The garden where the live music happens is great! They have the restaurant that had a bar and all so if u wanna just come in and eat you may have some waiting to do, they are pretty nice and busy. The outside is amazing I would tell you to stay at the garden obviously foeat get some repellent on that skin for the moskitos but after that just enjoy the drinks and awesome music. There is also a huge projector playing games that you can look at while listening to the music. This is a great outdoor drinking place.

Great Beer!

By mitch8111 |

Love this place, a must see when in San Antonio, especially if you love good beer. We always request Andrea, she is the best!

This is not "Oma's Haus" Not even close

By Coach Mike |

The food is not what you are hoping it will be. In fact I was terribly disappointed with the menu. The food was average. Nothing to write home about. I guess when you see this place and see all the people there you're expectations are high. But I realized in the end what this really is...a beer garden. Now that I am fine with. If you want to drink, this is a great spot. I am talking some of the strongest Spoetzel you can find. That's all this place is good for.

Lunch

By Spacelady2013 |

Great visit. Hard to decide which selection to make...so many great ones. Went with delicious bacon cheddar Hoffbrau Burger & Fries. Perfect! Excellent, friendly service. Next time I'll try their Jager Schnitzel yo celebrate Oktoberfest. Can't wait!

Good stop after golf at The Quarry

By wikwik |

Needed a hearty meal after a tough round of golf, and Hofbrau was it. Parking on the Thursday night before July 4th was tough, but no wait. I think the menu is a little limited, but maybe they follow the mantra of do a few things well. After selecting a tasty wheat beer from Austin (trying to remember the name) to go with my burger. I just wasn't feeling a steak. They have a decent selection of craft/local beers; not 100's but a solid 25. My golf buddy had the schnitzel and it was excellent. There is some outdoor seating if that is your thing. All in all, a nice place.

Ever hear of an A/C?

By Cielo71 |

Loved the variety of drinks. Appetizers were average. Would have scored a little higher except that it is cooler sitting outside on the hottest day of summer on the river walk. It should NOT be this hot inside!! Seriously! Wow!

Nice place, good food and ambiance

By Mike |

My wife's friend and I had the jaegersnitzel (deep-fried, pounded-thin, breaded pork cutlet with mushroom gravy) and the sausage dish. My wife had the the sausages. The snitzel was great-tender, crunchy and savory with the mushroom sauce. The sausages were kind of salty and a bit too charred for my taste. You get 2 sides for these dishes, and there are numerous choices (I remember mashed potatoes, seasonal veggies, sauerkraut, cole slaw, two types of salads-I think there's a small surcharge for the salads). Anyway, I was very pleased with the food, courtesy and ambiance of the restaurant, especially after a miserable experience at Eaker BBQ earlier today. And the waitress was very sweet and accommodating. I will return.

Same but different

By Barbara S |

QH has always been a favorite of mine but now it’s even better. New decor and new menu items. Staff was awesome and drinks are the best!

Leisurely lunch

By ClassicTheatre |

Fun but noisy restaurant with nice varied menu. Pasta dishes, shrimp diablo and mango/ chicken salad were all favorites. Bread pudding and chocolate cake were yummy. Servers were nice as they could be but covering too many tables. Had to wait for menus, wait for water and wait for bill.

Our favorite place on our recent vacation

By Jackie |

We were in town for a convention and wanted to get away from the Riverwalk crowds, and decided to give this place a try. All 5 of us loved the experience. Our waitress was great and attentive, the manager was very friendly and thanked us for coming in. We tried the chicken-fried ribeye, which was so tender and delicious. The corn was ok and the mashed potatoes were amazing (not instant). Two in our party had and liked the schnitzel, and another had the fried shrimp, which also was reported to be very good. The drink menu was outstanding. Lots of beer, mixed drinks, and margaritas with beer or soda upside down in them. My husband liked the dunkel beer and I loved the long island iced tea. The highlight of the meal was dessert. The five of us ordered 2 pecan cobblers and a bread pudding. The monster portions were all we could eat. The pecan cobbler is one of the best things I've ever had- gooey and covered in whiskey sauce. Big enough to share, you should save room to try it. We can not wait to go back when we are next in town.

Great food! Fun place!

By Susanne W |

Wiener schnitzel with German potato salad and red cabbage was all delicious. Pecan-crusted chicken with mashed potatoes...yummm. Generous servings, interesting atmosphere.

Hot but cool

By Paula C |

Great food and drink. It was very hot and humid but the outdoor seating was comfortable as there was a constant mist to cool you off. Hot dog in a pretzel bun was amazing as well as my large sangria margarita.

Good experience

By Swimfins |

I read the other reviews slamming the food, but our experience was good - both in food and service. The fried dill pickle appetizer was very good - and the serving is substantial. They were not greasy, had a nice light coating, and were nicely sour. I had the Wurstfest - a selection of brats. They were very good, as was the sauerkraut (that I subbed in for the potatoes). Around the table we had the fish and chips, which contrary to other reviewers was good and not greasy, and the bratwurst plate, also very good. Service was fine - not great, and not bad, but just as it should be - timely, friendly, and attentive. We sat out on the covered patio on a Saturday afternoon. It was very pleasant.

Great experience!!!

By Darcat13 |

Excellent service and food. Our server "Brandy" was helpful and friendly. Loved the environment as well.

Rude, racist, and unwelcoming staff

By C G |

(I would rate a ZERO but it does not give that option) We had a gathering of approximately 25-30 people to celebrate a promotion based on a recommendation from someone in our group. By the end of the evening she regretted having made the recommendation. We were enjoying happy hour and laughing and talking amongst ourselves when one of the bartenders approached our table. He said ‘a lot of other customers complained about us being loud’ so we had to quiet down. To begin with there were maybe 4 other tables with 2-3 people at that time. Our party was 90% of the entire customer base at that time this happened. We had been there about 1 hour and I’m sure we had already spent close to $500 of food and drinks. I asked to speak to the manager and a male named Taylor came out of an office/room behind the counter. I explained what had happened and he just said ‘ok-don’t worry about it.’ Taylor was nice and polite and sounded sincere but he never approached the bartender and we never received an apology from the bartender himself. I firmly believe it was race related as the majority of us were Hispanic and the others that complained were Caucasian—just like the employee that approached us. It surely did not matter that we were Hispanic when our money was taken at the end of the night. When you are in the restaurant business in a city with a diverse population it is not smart to be racist. I will never recommend this restaurant. If you want to have fun and enjoy friends do not visit this restaurant—as they are easily bothered by laughing and noise in the bar area. I tried attaching a pic of how empty the place around us was but it is not posting :(

Good find

By Mary E |

Stopped by after a late arrival to San Antonio. Initially tried to get a table, but the wait time was unclear so we asked to be seated at the bar. Very good move. Friendly bartender, good food, great beer and wine. Have to say, everyone has a really impressive work ethic here.

Their food has gone down so bad and the service as well

By Steven A |

We got there and then ordered their nachos that were awful the waiter finally came and took our order. The food we got was nothing like before the fries were greasy and small like at any other restaurant. This fish was good but Everything else was just awful had to get the manager to get service so we could leave I left a ten percent tip due to the bad service and I assure you, I NEVER leave a low tip unless they deserve it. We only saw our waiter 3 times and gave up on more to drink. They have really gone downhill in the last few times we have eaten there so this was the last time for us.

Great place, but bad service just once left a bad taste in our mouths.

By Jeffrey W |

My wife and I go to Hofbrau on Sunday evenings as a sort of ritual to finishing off the week. We have been there several times and we have always received great value and service...until today. Tucker sucked. He seemed irritated at our presence right off the bat--it was still at least an hour and a half before closing--but he seemed like he was sick of serving customers. He never offered a menu, so we had to ask for one, and when I ordered a second drink, he threw a little conniption fit. He just shoved it in my direction, and looked at me very frustratingly, like he just wanted us to leave. I like Hofbrau, and will continue to be a patron there. However, if I see this young man at the bar again, I will definitely do all I can to avoid him, including walking out the door and going to another venue.

Amazing restaurant

By DAntropov |

While visiting the quarry mall area in San Antonio the Hofbrau is a great place to stop for a bite or a Dos a Rita . The staff there is always friendly and the burgers are amazing.... the menu is American/German food and the price is reasonable. I have been several times and have never been dissatisfied!

Awful in every way

By Englis Setter lovers from Texas |

Over the weekend my husband & I visited Hofbrau & couldn't have been disappointed. The service was awful, but the food was even worse. My husband got the chicken fried ribeye & over 1/2 was inedible. Between fat & gristle it was awful. I did speak with a manager who was too important to take his weird beanie hat off or uncross his arms to listen to me, so I doubt anything will change, but I can assure you we won't ever go back.

Love this place!

By KDub1113 |

I've only been to Hofbrau twice, but have loved the place both times. Service has been prompt. First time I went, I got the Skewered Mahi Mahi Stix- very good. Subbed the coleslaw for grilled asparagus- could eat those everyday! Though I may be biased, I LOVE asparagus. Most recently, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Can't say I was very impressed. The meat had decent flavor, but the jalapeno cheddar sourdough bun was too drenched in butter for me to enjoy. The bottom bread was almost soaked through. The Queso Blanco is amazing- a must try if you are a queso eater. My husband said his Four Cheese Mac with Bacon was better than most he's had (he ordered the Chicken Fried Ribeye- gave it a thumbs up), and my mom raved about how good the Schnitzel was. One thing they need to do is improve the parking situation. If you go on a weekend evening, navigating through the lot is stressful... and good luck finding a spot close by. Had to end up parking down behind the AT&T. Even going on a Tuesday night, we had to drive around to get a spot since they share the lot with the Mexican Restaurant close by. Oh, and just expect a long wait in general if you go on a weekend evening. The place isn't very big and it's extremely popular- especially for their bar and specialty margarita drinks.

Mostly Good

By tag302 |

The atmosphere is rustic casual and not without its charm. The service is OK, average. We asked the host for a booth and was told those are reserved for parties that are more than 4 people, we were a party of 3. This was on a weekday night and it was not crowded at all, but whatever if that's their policy. After seating us at a table, the host came back and said the manager gave his OK to move to a booth. We declined, we were already seated. Perhaps management should empower the host to make a decision on his own. This was our 3rd visit. Previously I've had the Hofbraus Burger and the Pan Seared Flounder. Both were good. This time I tried the Chicken Fried Ribeye, thinking it would be better than the average chicken fried steak. It was not. It was subpar. The meat was gristly, chewy and tough. My companion had the Brisket Nachos and said they were good. A main feature of this establishment is the assortment of beer-frozen margarita combos. If that's your thing, I'm sure they'll have one you'll like.

Average food and service

By Beth R |

This is a sports bar, so the drinks tend to be better than the food. This was the case here. The pulled pork sandwich was good but very dry. The mashed potatoes were dry as well. The mamosa was good and for $2, a bargin. The service was just average.

Great service; huge food portions

By k s |

We were in SA for one night and decided to try this restaurant. It was a windy and rainy night, and inside the pub felt as if we were in another country. Service was excellent. We drank several drinks and ordered multiple items from the menu. All were very good!

Typical bar food, indifferent service

By DrivingMissCrazy |

The grilled asparagus was outstanding, everything else was decent but nothing special. Our server was more interested in flirting with a table full of young women, so our food was finally brought out by someone else, who wasn't exactly gracious about it. As bar food goes, it was okay, but I doubt if I'll be back. There are too many other restaurants to try out, and life is short!

Delicious

By michelle.giddings |

Great customer service. Very sweet people. Great atmosphere. The food is soooooo good. Best German food I've had in awhile. Yum.

Not German

By Mary S |

There is no German food sold here. But what we had was quit good. Reasonably priced. Excellent bar. Just don't expect anything German.

Slow but SLOW!

By Spearchuck |

Heard all sorts of greats things, but it was a terrible experience. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW! Took over a half hour to get appetizers, over an hour for main dishes. 2 had to be returned as they were cold. Don't waste your time. Lots of hype, and no delivery.

Go for the margaritas... skip the food.

By Heidihoe85 |

When Hofbrau opened in the Quarry, I could have eaten and drank margaritas there every day! Over time the appeal of the Dosaritas has died down and the price of course, has increased but they are still worth it! Hang outside with a group of friends and order the Queso Blanco and fight over the glob of delicious Guacamole in the center. If you must order food, try the Brisket Nachos or the Pecan-crusted Chicken. The menu is spectacular but in the last year (4-6 visits), I haven't had a very great experience with fresh or temperature-appropriate food. Beware of this when they are busy on a weekend night!

Pleasant lunch

By Koani |

Went to San Antonio for a quick overnight trip and ended up in the Quarry. It was a beautiful afternoon and our mom wanted to eat outside so we stopped here. I wasn't really expecting much, but it was quiet and comfortable. Our server was pleasant and attentive the entire visit. The pretzel, cheese, and sausage board has something for everyone and we all enjoyed it. My mother does not typically like bratwurst and even she said it was good. We ordered the wurstfest plate, bratwurst plate, and street tacos and everything was great aside from the cabbage. I look forward to being able to stop here again!

The atmosphere was great!

By Tracey Woodfin Clifton |

Go early an be prepared to park some place else. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun. The service was good and we had a medium sized party. The parking is only a negative if you don't know where else you can park. We circled once and someone left. The place was packed we waited an hour for a table but it was fun at the bar while we waited.

Not good

By hdr206 |

Met a colleague for lunch today. Should have checked the internet before I chose this joint. I wanted a small steak and this place says it’s a steakhouse so we went there. They smallest steak they had was 10 ounces, too big for lunch for me so I ordered the fish and chips. It came with some tartar and red sauce straight out of a bottle. The fish was frozen and a little soggy. Not much flavor. The fries were okay. My friend said his Caesar salad was lettuce that had been in the fridge for about a week. All in all, pretty dreadful. Nice place, Thomas. Might be a place to have a beer, but don’t eat there.

Perfect for what it is

By NJVTEC |

Great little spot for a quick dinner. Staff was friendly, service was fast, and both the food and the prices were reasonable. Not world class dining, but for what it is its good.

It'll Put the Hof Back In Your Brow!

By OmniEpicurean |

A warm, sunny spring day in San Antonio just begs for a lunch al fresco. Even the grackles are announcing the end of winter and heralding the hot summer days ahead. Enjoy the mild weather now. And enjoy it we did. Nice selection of craft beers to choose from. One of thier better and lighter brews is Circle Blur which became a fast favorite among our group who had been drinking various and sundry pints. Crisp and minty, the flavor was a perfect fit for pre-lunch imbibing. An appetizer of chicken wrapped bacon had one member of our party casting aspersions and making comparisons to jerky, while another had sausages, cheese and bread sticks that tickled his sauerkrkaut. Further, my schnitzel was acceptable with sides of grilled squash and cabbage with bacon. With a name like Hofbrau, what else was I supposed to order?! The shaded patio here is definitely a place to while away a couple of hours with cold pints, outrageous stories among friends, and some average grub, and I would not hesitate to do it again.

Good Eats

By Melody T |

This is not your average German Beer Gardens....it has a Texas twist. Basically it is a Texas steak/bbq restaurant that has a beer garden patio. Live music most nights but again don't expect German music. Food is priced fair for the amount you get. Nothing exceptional but there was not wait at 7:30 on Wed night and it was close to our hotel (SpringHills on the Rim).

Great place to have some fun

By Glenn S |

We went for their Octoberfest event. Food and beer were great. Server had trouble keeping up. Don’t leave your table unattended or it will be cleared and given to someone else. Everyone was friendly, drinks are big. I recommend the sausage, cheese, and pretzel board. Nice patio area for when they have live bands.

So disappointed.

By Wendyfoodie |

Menu looked great but the food quality was very disappointing. Package gravy, frozen shrimp, and other low quality ingredients made this a very expensive meal for the quality. Food comes out too quickly-our meals came out within 5 minutes of receiving the appetizer, before we were even halfway thru it, and long before our drinks ever arrived. A manager was on the floor asking for feedback, so kudos to him for that. Overall the quality of the food was not equal to the price. We will not be back.

Great Experience!

By Cris H |

We enjoyed our food at the Hofbrau and Beer Garden. I had a bowl of chili and a salad. It was not quite a German dish per se, but I enjoyed it. It was a birthday dinner, and I would go back for a nice casual dinner.

Jagerschnitzel :)

By Cathy J |

Waiter recommended the Alten Stier house beer and the jagerschnitzel with German cabbage. Both were excellent. Heavy wooden furniture reminds you of Germany while the decor is Texan. Christopher, our server, was friendly, professional and helpful 😊

Was expecting more German food

By David W |

Attended a friend's graduation at UT-San Antonio, who had made a reservation for all her guests at Hofbrau. This was my first visit to Hofbrau and having lived in Germany for 7 years was looking forward to German food. Well, there were a couple wurst and schnitzel choices on the menu but majority of menu was typical Texas fare....burgers, pasta, steak, etc. Having said that, the food was tasty and serving size appropriate. With Hofbrau in the name, you expect beer and there was a nice selection of various beers, both the national brands and numerous Texas Craft beer. The wait staff was outstanding.

Great night out!

By Mandy |

Loved it! One of our favorite places to go for date night. Great service and awesome appetizers. We went in to enjoy the dosaritas and were impressed by how they expanded the menu with a lot more drink combination choices.

A Fine Replacement

By bobemac |

This review is for the Hofbrau at the Rim a recent replacement for the La Hacienda restaurant formerly at this location. The operation is very well run, and the new facility is top of the line. We were greeted quickly and seated happily. Our server's name was Jill and she did a good job for us. I had a smoked turkey sandwich which was very good and perfectly done french fries. My BW had the Reuben which was delicious and also those good fries. I also had chipotle tomato soup was a little spicy but delicious. My BW was just coming off a cold so the spicy helped her a lot.

Love this place!

By 538amandar |

Great friendly service, yummy food. I frequent this restaurant at least twice a month. Patio bar is great, live music is always top notch. Lots to do, eat, shop in the Quarry...definitely worth stopping in if you are on this side of town!

Sunday Funday

By Jackie A |

This place offers a bottle of mimosa for $12 on Sundays. That was such a great deal on a rainy Sunday. We had the brisket nachos and it was amazing and filling.

Hofbrau & Beer Garden

By William P |

Great food and service, We were looking for a place to eat before we got out of town headed west on I-10. Pleasantly surprised. Liked it enough that we will stop the next time we are in San Antonio

Too loud, too slow service, too spicy.

By jansonatrip |

As soon as we walked in and heard the loud voices - I couldn't even hear what the hostess said - we should have turned around and left. A conversation with my partner over dinner was impossible. Our orders were filled with jalapenos - chili, I understand would be spicy; good thing I ordered just a cup instead of a bowl. My partner ordered the mixed sausage plate - jalapenos in German sausage? give me a break! Maybe it's not jalapenos (some other chili pepper spice?) but I'm not going back to find out what it was.

A decent place to eat and spend time

By Maxens Case |

A decent place to eat and spend time, it is a little outside river-walk so it is not always full like some restaurants. Overall the service was good except was the waiting. The beers and food were a little expensive for what it was.

Fun and friendly

By MSCHIEFMARY |

Went for late evening and there was live music which was quite good. Beers were cold and the selection was good. Appetizers-a-plenty. Selection was good, food was hot and our server was attentive without hovering. The outdoor seating was great for this time of year. Give this place a try

These guys have a great beer selection and the bartenders know their stuff.

By SSP |

I had fried pickles and it was a huge plate. They have a great selection from IPA's, Hefeweizens, lagers, and pilsners. I recommend HB, Paulaner, and Bitburger beer if you want to try the best German beer.

Fun place to go if you love to try different beers!

By bigthicket |

My daughter, who lives in San Antonio, took me to this restaurant for dinner and drinks one night during my visit because she knows I love to try different beers. This restaurant features regularly 24 different draft choices. It was hard to decide which ones to try. For our meal we each tried the Tomato Chipolte soup which was a thick soup with a little kick to it. We also split the brisket nachos which were pretty good. All in all the food was pretty good but the drinks and atmosphere really made this place. Great live music and great place to either sit outside or inside if you'd rather watch some sports on a tv. My daughter also knew I would love the area. ( this restaurant is located where the Alamo Cement laboratory once operated.) Lots of great shops in this area too.

Declined Over Time

By Euro13-16 |

I used to love this place, but the service, food quality, and drink quality has seriously declined. The queso is pretto good, but leave the dosaritas to the tourists. They arent nearly as strong nor tasty as they used to be. Theres nothing German about this place other than the name, and there's much better food close by!

Excellent Beer Choices, decent food, but warm in resturant.....

We went to this resturant 2x times with 5 people, 1x for happy hour (sat in bar area) and 1x for dinner (sat in table area). For happy hour, the bartender was amazing with his service, and attention to orders. He reviewed the menu items and beer options without missing a beat. The whole experience was pretty cool. He served other patrons at the bar, then would swing by our table in good intermittent times to fill up water/ ice tea/ and to check on us, Food was average, atmosphere fun, clean resturant, but the temp in the resturant was warm on both occassions. The female waitress we had for dinner was average, appeared a little bothered by reviewing some of the items on the menu, and did not swing by the table to refill water and/or tea. Her bare minimum attention / service made the whole experience: blah! Would not recommend eating dinner here in the table area, Do recommend to sit in the bar area, enjoy happy hour, appetizers and dinner. Still amazed on how different the experiences were just by sitting in different areas of this place. .

Awesome Experience

By Dayana C |

I had heard many great things about this place. Took a few friends from out of town to enjoy the margaritas. They have a lot of unique ones and all of the ones we received were delicious. No wait to sit down for dinner which was awesome for a Saturday evening. Didn't have much expectation for the food, but we had the queso as a start and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered everyone from burgers to ribs and no one had anything bad to say. The ribs are some of the best we've had in awhile. Service was great.

Good drinks and food

By poppazo |

Stopped by here before going to a spurs game. The food and drinks are good, you will defenitely get full they give you a lot of food. I had a bull Rita drink which is a huge drink and very good, went during the week so it wasnt that crowded.

Great outdoor seating

By AshleyMarieH13 |

My husband and I stopped for a beer on a hot day and it was a really cute place to sit and relax. The waitstaff was friendly and offered to pour our beers in plastic cups so we could continue walking the Riverwalk.

Good whiskey steak & vegetables

By FairlyWellTravelled |

A lot of TVs to see sports highlights. I had the whiskey steak with the mashed potatoes and asparagus. Very good although the stems of the asparagus were crunchier than I prefer. The steak was tasty. I used the whiskey sauce on the potatoes more than the steak. Ice tea was good also.

love, love, LOVE!!

this was the first place we have been to since we moved to texas that actually made us feel like we were IN texas!! the atmosphere is really western! the food was absolutely delicious and the service was great! we tried their pretzel sticks appetizer and they came out huge and nice and warm and soft!!! they have a good variety of domestic and imported beers, and a nice selection of texas-made beers on tap. they also have an amazing selection of beeritas [and even one that isn't made with a beer - for those of us who don't like beer]. my husband had the tequila lime chicken and it was wonderful! i had the chicken spinach artichoke pasta and i could only eat half of it - and then i had to MAKE myself stop eating it!! it was so yummy!! they also have live music on weds, thurs, fri and sat nights. will definitely be going back there again.....and again.....and again! ;)

Don't miss the brisket enchiladas!

By SRW_TX |

My family decided to try Hofbrau on a whim while in the area on vacation. The beer garden/patio area is very inviting, shady, and relaxing. The restaurant is in a nice area with lots of shopping and restaurant options. The food was very good overall. My son raved about the brisket enchiladas and said they were the best thing he ate all week over Spring Break. He couldn't stop talking about them! My shrimp salad was very good, much better quality than you would expect for a beer garden-type restaurant. The chicken Diablo appetizer was very good as well. We were there at lunch and they have a huge patio and a stage for live music. Service was ok, not great, and it did take a while to get seated and to get our food. But if we're back in the area, my son may insist on stopping by again for those brisket enchiladas!

Drinks after the Spurs

By Lisa De la Garza |

Stopped in after the Spurs vs. Rockets game and the Oregon Ducks vs. TCU game. Bar was packed, band was playing so we got seated afterwhile. I had this amazing drink with chamoy called a Senor Rita with a Pacifico beer in it. It was so yummy. We ordered the buffalo bar-be-que wings, but nah they weren't very good.

Great DRINKS and amazing FOOD

By Sara |

The many different combinations of margaritas you can get here is just so crazy! I love it! I recommend the SAKI-RITA, as well as the SUNKIST Rita! The burgers are to die for! Try the Pepper Jack Bacon Melt! That burger is just full of a buttery flavor, along with a spicy-bacon taste! MY absolute favourite!

Average food. Would not return.

By jaylam28 |

Visited this restaurant while we were in town staying at the JW Marriott. It's sort of a blend of German style food with a few home-style dishes and some Tex mex. I had brisket tacos and they were ok. I ate the filling because the corn tortillas tasted stale. The side of guacamole was puréed like you buy in bulk at Sams. My husband had the chicken fried chicken and the batter was good but the chicken very over cooked. We had chocolate cake for dessert and I thought it was awful-- It tasted store bought and several days old. Our server was attentive and the margarita was good. If ever in town again, we would not come back. Too many other amazing restaurants in town!

Yuck

By berlyc |

I'm not usually so negative but this experience was not good. Upon entering the restaurant it smelled musty and like cleaning spray. I was so hungry I stayed although I should've left then. Ordered A wedge salad that looked great. Unfortunately the lettuce was quite tired and the plate was very watery. The dressing was ok but the blue cheese crumbles I am guessing we're something close to blue cheese. Told the waiter I did not enjoy my meal. Charged full price. Will not return.

Oktoberfest in Texas!

By TravelingFan22 |

We stopped in for a mid-afternoon beer, sitting in the huge outdoor garden area. It was quiet and peaceful, which is what we needed at the time, but I’d love to go back again at night or the weekend. I’m sure the place is wild and crazy with great music playing. There is lots of room to sit inside or outside. It would be a great place to meet up with a large group of friends. Of course, it’s OktoberFest time now, so they have special brews to try. My mother-in-law also loved the pear cider. We also had fun taking photos with the picture cutout (just put your face in) by the front door. It’s the perfect time to go to a Hofbrau house!

Good food and excellent range of beers at a very reasonable price. Live music too! Specials every night, Oktoberfest menu's. Excellent service.

Awesome Dinner Experience

By emb0482 |

Tried and famished after Sea World. Found this restaurant from the San Antonio Magazine in our hotel room. Running out of ideas as to where to go for dinner. My hubby and I decided to give this a go and we'ere glad that we did. The chicken fried ribeye was so moist and yet crunchy. The best in my book! As for their margarita, its so AWESOME how they have so many combinations for beer and margaritas. My hubby got their signature Dos-A-Rita margarita with Dos XX and I got the Moon-Rita with Mango margarita and Blue-Moon. The BEST! We love this place!!! Can't wait to go back soon!!!

Wild and festive!

By tamjan |

My first impression: great music 🎶 live, cute waitresses dressed to the theme, absolutely gorgeous water features / fountains , cheap beer and cocktail specials!

Off Night?

By Soars37 |

Go for the atmosphere, the beer garden, and the live music. Visited with a group for a family party. Menu looks enticing, but if you've ever been to Germany, it's a disappointment! We had a challenge getting the meals as ordered. Our server indicated the kitchen was having challenges. My guess is that they had either a new cook or a substitute -- in either case, the resulting meals were not as expected. The best looking plates were the salads and the sandwiches (those were quite good). Huge multiple feature drinks seem to be a specialty -- it you want an alcoholic sugar high this is the thing to order! Also, an extensive beer selection. Strangely enough the server never cleared the table. Although located at a busy intersection, and a bit noisy, it was very pleasant on a warm evening. The basketball game was shown on a huge outdoor wall, near life size (once the sun was low), and the live music was nice.

Go for the beer

By Elisha8685 |

This restaurant would be one to go to with the intent to stay later and drink. The food is pretty good but nothing too special. I had the Snitzel and it was decent. The beer though is very good and they have some German drafts. I enjoyed the atmosphere and would go back to have a few drinks but probably not to eat. They did have the best fried pickles that rivaled if not beat out hooters. They are open very late (1-2 am throughout the week) which is a plus.

Delicious Chuckwagon

By MojoBeau12 |

We go to Hofbrau on either Sundays or Wednesdays. They have the best deal going and it is called Chuckwagon. It is your choice of 2 meats, 3 sides, iced tea and Pecan pie cobbler. The cream corn on this Chuckwagon is very good. (I usually don't like cream corn, but that corn is really good). They have a great selection of beers, some locally made. My boyfriend likes trying the unusual beers. I am not a fan of Pecan pie, but I do love this. It is drizzled with Jack Daniels sauce and it is tasty good. We have tried the other dishes at the Hofbrau, but the Chuckwagon keeps us coming back for more.

Typical Hofbrau

By 55LoneStar |

Excellent ambiance, good menu and drink selection, very loud and very busy. Location in Quarry had minimal parking. Fast service once seated. This is however a chain restaurant and appropriate for those that enjoy the quality control of mass produced dishes. The pecan crusted chicken was nicely prepared.

LOVE!

By outoftown17 |

This Hofbrau is one of my favorite places to go! Especially after work, I love coming here. The food is beyond terrific and the wait staff is just as great! Everyone is friendly there. I love that they always have different sports games on, on the T.V's. HIGHLY recommend coming here! The live music isn't so bad either!

Texas German blend

By Ann R |

I used to live in Germany and needed a fix so we tried Hofbrau at The Quarry Market. Most of the menu is classic Texan but there are 4 German dishes. One is listed as Werner Schnitzel but this is a gross misrepresentation of what should be a veal dish. It is pork. We tried the wurst plate and the brat plate and each was good. They wereaccompanied with sauerkraut, seasoned cabbage, and wonderful spaetzel. To be just like I had in Germany, dishes should have had a pickle and small hard roll, but both meals were good and very inexpensive. Good selection of draft and bottled beer and cocktails.

Hit the spot!

By RKOsquare |

After working up an appetite while doing a little shopping in the Quarry, stopped in to this happening spot and was not disappointed. Half pound mushroom and Swiss burger was delicious, as were the fries! The food was worth the wait. The service was a little slow due to the lunchtime crowd, but I would go again.

A "German" restaurant.

By Pavehawk |

The staff was friendly and professional. The service was quick. The food was hot. The Jager Snitzel was tasty. I was disappointed they didn't have Spätzle or braised Red Cabbage. They had regular cabbage. The beer selection wasn't what I expected, disappointing as well. After living in Germany for eight years, I expected more from a place called Hofbrau and Beer Garden.

Delicious German corner

By epin |

This restaurant is the best option of German food in San Antonio. Excellent food and service. Our waitress Brandy was very kind and special with us. Top recommendation

Hofbrau in San Antonio

Cloe was a wonderful and attentive server. the food was great but more importantly, the beer was great also.

Service was great, food was o.k

By TravelingFool88005 |

The beer and service were fantastic. The food was just o.k. I had the brisket tacos and they were dry. I would go back and try something else.

Worst experience ever in a restaurant

By pearlandAg |

If I could leave zero stars I would. Save your time and go elsewhere. It was bad from start to finish. We ordered drinks and it took 20 minutes to get them. When drinks were delivered our food order was not taken. Our waitress seemed to have disappeared. We looked for her had to flag her down to order. 40 minutes later only some of the food arrived. It took over 20 minutes for everyone at our table to get their food. Several finished eating before the all the orders we delivered. One order had a missing side. We told them to take it off the ticket because weren’t paying for something we didn’t receive. Management had an I don’t care attitude and were very rude. They were not apologetic at all. Instead of taking the item off the ticket they added it on. It took three tries to get a correct ticket. After two hours of horrible service, we finally were able to leave. We saw other tables complaining to management also. It’s not good when several tables are having a bad experience. After getting treated like customers don’t matter, we will never go back again!!!

Mis-named Restaurant

By Donktex |

Only got a poor rating because we were expecting lots of German food. Unfortunately, when we visited there was just one or two. The wiener schnitzel was totally bland - and the "gravy" tasted canned. Other food did look good - just not a German place.

Fun relaxing restaurant for a meal

By TRAVELLERSanDiego |

Went here for a lunch with a big group with kids. My son had fun here, and they have a very nice outside patio and bar with plenty of shade. They also have their own parking in the back. The service was excellent, the food was good, and the portions were large. We started out with the Queso and chips. It was very tasty, and the Queso had Guacamole, so this is a must try during your visit. The fish taco plate was average but filling. I had Bacon which I found was fresh tasting and delicious. Overall, I thought it was a nice family friendly place, and we spent several hours enjoying the food and the company.

Late lunch an issue

By AGGS |

We were there at 1:30 for a late lunch, and ordered two entrees. My husbands hamburger was perfect, but I had ordered a two meat platter, which came 2 slices each of Turkey and brisket. both had one very dry old looking and tasting slice, and the potatoes were dry also. my guess is the lunch rush was over and they either precut the meat or let it dry out. Told the manager but unsure it made any difference.

Good location

By cxrcyf |

Right next to the river walk and near the Alamo. This place is casual and easy going, compared to a lot of fancy restaurants on the river walk. Outdoor seating is great. Food is pretty good and reasonably priced. Wish they had schnitzels though.

Amazing Margaritas!

Our first dinner in Texas, and was everything and more than what we expected, from amazing hospitality to wonderful service to delicious food. Great job

Great Lunch

Fun restaurant with nice varied menu. Mango/ chicken salad was my favorites. Bread pudding and chocolate cake were yummy. Servers were nice.

Good Experience, tasty margarita

By Dominic23 |

Was in the Quarry area and thought I'd give it a try. I had just missed the lunch crowd which was fine by me. The bartender (I sat at the bar) was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was nice and I can see myself going back with a group of friends for happy hour. My steak wasn't anything extraordinary but it was good and made exactly as I ordered it. As a side, I really liked the mashers recipe they use. The asparagus does need some work / change. My favorite part of my lunch...the margarita. I would go back for sure.

Worst service ever

By Joiedvivre |

A group of girlfriends and I arrived at around 10:30 pm on St Patty's day. We were just chatting and having a drink and before we knew it, it was a few minutes past closing time (11 pm) and they turned all the lights in the place up to a blindingly high light. Five minutes later they totally turned all the lights off, leaving us in almost complete darkness (I couldn't even finish, let alone write the tip on my $11 drink). Then the manager "Dave" (if that's even his real name) came up to us and told us that they were all tired and wanted to leave and we had to get out. I didn't even get to finish half of my drink. In fact, "Dave" told us that *we* were being rude by not leaving. Hmmm... I thought the customer was always right. Our server was very nice so I felt bad for him, but the manager told us to get out. Several of the ladies in my party work in the service industry and were completely appalled... when a customer arrives late at one of their restaurants, they deal with it instead of rudely telling customers that they are not wanted. I will never go to a Hofbrau again. Stay away unless you like to be screwed over.

Best margarita anywhere

By Guide542361 |

Went for the Jager Schnitzel and stayed for the margarita. I was surprised to find that many German immigrants settled in Texas, so, being of German heritage, I wanted to taste the food. All I can say if it is all this good, I understand my family being in the hefty size range. The drinks were wonderful or have I already mentioned that?

Great atmosphere and service...

By JSR_Adventures |

Six of us visited on a Saturday night after a friend's wedding for some drinks and snack food. Parking was a bit scarce, but there's plenty across the street at the main Quarry complex. We elected to sit on the patio and we were immediately waited on and we were well-served the entire evening. Most ordered one of the signature margarita specialties, which come in a fish bowl sized glass. Plan on camping out for a while unless you are a serious chug-a-lugger. The food was good and the live music was really good. We definitely recommend this place for a good time!

Nice stopping place, after a long River Walk

By KEspin2488 |

This is similar to the average Bier Garden in Germany, but with a Texas American twist. If you order a beer, try to order authentic German, and the same with the food. The wurst plate was good, considering we are in Texas! The only thing missing was polka music!

Fun?

By Timeo22 |

Just stopped in while my girls were shopping the quarry. Friendly staff. Great local and national beer selection. Bonus for me as they regularly refresh their menu they shared their new tastes. Got do and see for yourself. Won't be disappointed

Good food and nice patio

By Eshafer |

The patio seating is very nice at this restaurant. There are flat screens to watch the games and when the sun goes down projector screens. The service was quick and friendly. I had the schnitzel with spaetzle. This was different than the authentic German dish. The schnitzel was fried a little more and the spaetzle was grill fried. It was good but different. I recommend this location if you want good food. They do offer non German dishes that are tasty as well. The only negative is lack of parking and potholes big enough to swallow your tires.

Love the Biergarten!

By L D |

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch on the patio. Kids could wander about. Veggie portobello mushroom sandwich with asparagus was amazing!
