Nice brunch spot

By Elisabeth |

We enjoyed some pancakes for brunch. Both the buckwheat (in the back) and oatmeal pancakes (in front) were nice. Ask for some extra berries on top. The presentation was nice as well and the waitress was very friendly!!

Cozy and Delicious!

By KCBBQnJazz |

After searching for the "best breakfast near me" Home Plate was the top result. After reading reviews, I decided to give it a try. I entered the restaurant, was greeted promptly and offered a seat at the bar. A scone and marmalade were served with my coffee & iced tea. I guess I've become accustomed to the oversized scones at Panera :), but this scone was tasty as well. I ordered #3, sub chorizo for apple/chicken sausage with sourdough toast and it was quite tasty and filling as well! Service was prompt and attentive and there was never a long wait for my coffee or tea to be refilled. Note: They are moving soon, but if memory serves me correctly, they will still be on Lombard. I arrived around 9:30ish and it was pretty full the entire time I was there. :)

We had breakfast here every day throughout our trip, there was no need to venture anywhere else

By lenharts87 |

This place is very popular and theres often a queue but they always got us in quickly. Delicious homemade scones on the house a nice touch. Staff are very welcoming and service is brilliant, we never once sat waiting and wondering where our food was. Regular drink top-ups and quick service add to the excellence. Finally the food was nothing short of amazing, with a varied menu and attention to detail. Best breakfast in Ameri a ever, and Americans certainly know how to do breakfast!

Cosy Place, Great Food

By Angelightz |

This nice, cosy eatery is walking distance from Coventry Motor Inn and just across the street from Cow Hollow Inn. Great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Seats are comfy and ambience is good. Not as many selections as we'd like but all the foods we ordered turned out to be superb delicious! Especially loved the potato pancakes!

This is a good breakfast, can be crowded

By RedSoxRunner |

We visited without kids during the week on Friday (still had to wait 10 min or so). All of the food we ate was very good. Unlike some breakfast places, we were satisfied with all aspects of our meal, including eggs, pancakes, a frittata, and sausage. The service was a little spotty, seemed a little disorganized, maybe understaffed that day. They are still working out the kinks with the Yelp reservation system, it appears. Nevertheless, food is good. Since Home Plate is near a number of hotels that do not have breakfast, this place can get mighty crowded with hotel guests. Plan accordingly.

Delicious breakfast- join their waitlist if you go during the weekend!

By Aceituna |

We went here twice during our recent stay in San Francisco and we would have gone there the three days we were in SF if it hadn’t been for the fact that one of the mornings we were going to Alcatraz and needed to have breakfast on the go. The first time we went there it was on a Sunday and it was super busy but we had joined the waiting list on Yelp before leaving the hotel and arrived just as we could see that there was no more waiting time so we were seated immediately. We went with our 2-year-old daughter and were given a high chair. They also have baby changing facilities in the toilets. When you arrive they bring you some liltte warm scones which are delicious and a nice touch. There is a great selection of breakfast items, lots of omelettes, different types of eggs Benedict etc. The first time we went we had a garden omelette and the breakfast board, the second time black stone eggs Benedict and French toast with berries, bacon and poached eggs. The French toast was absolutely delicious! Soft and juicy in the inside and nicely golden on the outside. Really, really good! Service is good and friendly, obviously better on a weekday when it’s quieter but even on a Sunday they were always professional and very friendly. Highly recommend this place!

A little gem

By Andrew S |

The Home Plate is a lovely place to eat. Called a couple of times for brunch and were very impressed. Staff are friendly and attentive, decor is clean and fresh. Had pancakes one visit and an omelette the other, both were delicious. Would highly recommend

Yum

By Al L |

Super delicious breakfast! We had the starter breakfast and the corned beef eggs Benedict and they were absolutely delicious. Server was polite and very friendly. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. Best breakfast I've ever had, 10/10 would come again

home plate still scores!

By hbuzz111 |

A San Francisco breakfast treat that keeps scoring points. Tried and true. nothing fancy just really good home cooking. Love the homemade bisquet and jam. Be prepared for a wait as it is popular in a popular location.

Best everyday Breakfast In SF

By Tony C |

If you want a great place to make your favorite breakfast place this is it. The restaurant is warm and inviting. Nice lighting, fireplace, living wall enhance the dining experience Yes there are breakfast places you may want to go for big special occasions and go all out, but the price and selection here is awesome. Little scones come out to the table to start your breakfast. Portions are generous. I took a star off because the service is a bit cold. The gentleman is the best of the servers. It seems English is not their first language and maybe it’s for that reason the service does not feel spot on I have visited 3x. I have enjoyed all the food selection. They open at 7 and that is a plus as well. Seems most places open at 8.

Great food, unprofessional service

By taraneh b |

Great food, disappointing service. I went there twice, the food quality is absolutely amazing. The first time we waited 45 min to be seated, so it was a sign that the local is very popular, that was the reason we webt back again. Second time the service was totally disappointing, one of waitresses was impolite. So I recommend this restaurant for amazing food but be aware you need to be patient with them cause they are not. Obviously they have lots of customers they do not care if they loose few.

Awful

By Freedom267610 |

Awful food; poorly cooked, cold, tasted metallic. Service was mediocre. I don’t know how this restaurant is so highly rated.

HOme Plate is a Home Run!!

By Jody2001 |

Googled pancakes nearby and the Home Plate came up. Not many eating choices in that area of Lombard st. Wonderful potato pancakes- how my mom made them. Everything we ordered was delicious. The decor was very chic and comfortable. It was a great find!

Breakfasts

By srumptious |

My husband and I had breakfast on our last day in San Francisco. The staff at the restaurant was super friendly and courteous. You get treated as soon as you walk in. The restaurant is very very small and super cozy. It caters to everyone. Children, families, couples, vegans. When you sit down they give you complimentary scones with there house jelly. Super delicious. I am not a fan of scones but these were really good. I had the scrambled eggs with there homemade chicken sausage and French toast. My only complaint was that the French toast were very small. My husband had the chicken omelette with toast and hash browns. He loved it. His portions were huge. We enjoyed our meal and recommend this place.

Crab Omelet - crab was not fresh!

By bynw |

I treid this place based on a friend's advise. The restaurant used to be a couple of doors down The old place seems to have a nice but seedy vibe. The new place is swanky-er, like a hotel restaurant. Based on it being my first meal in California, I ordered the crab omelet. An amuse of a couple of scones and a pair of jams was delivered with the coffee. It was a nice touch. My omelet came and was a disappointment. The crab was not fresh! Bummer!

Great breakfast place moving to new location

By FranceGlobetrotter |

Home plate is moving to a new location and will be open in January 2018. They are currently renovating the location an it will be much bigger. I look forward to the new location and hope the food will be same or better. The current location is too small and the waiting time is often quite long. Great little family gem on Lombard street

Home Plate Restaurant

By Sheryl T |

Great breakfast in an un-assuming atmosphere. Service was great, food was delicious - I recommend this restaurant if you are staying in the area - it's within walking distance to the Chelsea Inn where I stayed; I recommend both!

Good, if pricey, breakfast

By LadyKBucksCo_ |

This is a nice place to come for a quiet relaxing breakfast. It's across the street from the high-action Mels, and couldn't be more different. Good food (the complimentary scones were tough and cold though), and the prices are high even for San Fran. But, we enjoyed ourselves.

Lovely atmosphere with excellent food

By 204Anonymous204 |

Beautiful restaurant with comfy chairs, wood floors and tables. Great food. The coffee was fresh and good even in the afternoon. Can't wait to go back.

Small and tucked away

By Ironman468 |

We stayed nearby and were told to try this for breakfast and it was really great. Looking for a nice breakfast, well try this one out. But not many tables so expect to wait.

Cute breakfast place

By brainy_banana |

We went here for breakfast as it was next door to our hotel. Nicely decorated interior and even by 9am it was almost full. We were seated straight away. Lots of choice on the menu and at decent prices. We had the buttermilk pancakes with extra fruit and the meat lover omelette. Both very tasty and filling. We also got complimentary scones, fresh and still warm. Mmmm. Would definitely recommend this place.

A unique breakfast

By JEO_1973 |

The diner is small, so get there early for breakfast. They have a broad menu and traditional items like waffles are unique -- made in a tin Scandinavian style and many options for toppings. Excellent service and very good coffee. This place is a pleasant surprise.

Unsettling

By SGG2U |

Greeter creates unsettling atmospheres. Not welcoming nor friendly. One customer left after being rebuked. Food came out at different times about 10 minutes apart. I have now been waiting 15 minutes to receive bill so we can leave. Food was ok. But I’m leaving feeling stresses.

Vacation

By VickiDennis |

Excellent good, free scone with homemade marmalade. Coffee was good. I tried the chicken sausage frittata and carrot potato pancakes. My husband had 2 eggs, hashbrowbs and toast. Very nice and clean. Great service. Busy....

Good choice for breakfast

By PGlocal_12 |

Have stayed in this neighborhood for many years for both work and pleasure and finding this restaurant in this location was a great find. Nice updated atmosphere, staff was attentive but not rushing us, and the breakfast was great. I had the Greek Frittata, served with a small salad with a light dressing and home fries which included multicolored potatoes - which had a great yam as one of the potatoes. The frittata had spinach, feta cheese and black olives (I left out the tomatoes by choice), and was very large and delicious. Will definitely make this a go to breakfast choice the next time we return to San Francisco.

Superb!!!

By Resha |

We just ate here and it was superb! This is my first review but after a delicious meal and wonderful service I had to leave a raving review for this hole in a wall type business. They couldn't have been more accomodating. My family and I are on a vacation from Hawaii and there is 13 of us. I called this place before we headed there and they said they don't take reservations but they will try to accomodate us. We got there and was able to be seated immediately. Breakfast came out quick and it was delicious. I had the Huevos Ranchos #22 I believe. It was so yummy, just as I imagined it to be with that mexican twist to my breakfast. Love the tomatillo sauce! Overall great service and good food. Recommend to stop here, if you're staying near Lombard and Scott... super convenient. We will be back for more!

Best breakfast of the trip !

By Shaqone |

Ordered the omelette with bacon and a fresh juice and would definitely be the best breakfast I have had on my trip around America, it is quite a small space but they are moving to a larger restaurant this year.

Soooo good!

By TravelingTraci |

We had breakfast here and it was delicious!! The starter biscuits and jam are really delightful. We were a party of 4 and all of us had great things to say about our meal. I had an bacon/cheese omelette with potato pancakes that were wonderful. This is the first place I have ever had a salad included as part of breakfast but I must say it was a welcome and tasty addition. The restaurant itself is very nice inside and allows for nice conversation. I would love to come back and visit again.

How Could We Have Missed this Gem?!

By Harry W |

My wife and I have a home in San Francisco and often take our scooter out for meals on the weekends. Another "local" mentioned Home Plate to us while we were having breakfast on nearby Chestnut St last week. So we decided to give it a try today. Home Plate is on the very busy Lombard St -- 6 lanes of speeding traffic which serve as a major thoroughfare to reach the Golden Gate Bridge. The reason I never noticed this restaurant as I drove past it 100's of times is that I was totally focused on my survival in this crazy street. Home Plate is only open for breakfast and brunch. The menu is very complete with dozens of egg, pancake, waffle and sandwich options. This is VERY popular with locals and visitors alike. But the staff works exceedingly hard to move folks through. Importantly, you can enter your name on a wait list using Yelp. Yelp suggested a 30 minute wait on a sunny Sunday morning around 11 AM. It turned out to be 1/2 that time for our party of 2. The interior of the restaurant is quite lovely with extremely comfortable chairs throughout. It is squeaky clean! The efficient wait staff was asking for our drink preferences within seconds after being seated. I had a great special which included 2 eggs to my liking, bacon and two wonderful pancakes. My wife had poached eggs and gave their hash-browns an A++. We also had a special spiced and baked bacon appetizer which we highly recommend. I've reviewed a number of SF breakfast places here on TA including Sears Fine Foods, Mo's, Mama's and others. Home Plate is as good or better than the foregoing places! BTW, if you want to avoid the Lombard speedway, you can approach and park on the parallel road (Chestnut) or one of the cross streets (Steiner or Fillmore).

Wonderful Fresh Breakfast and Attentive Staff

By Lauren M |

The chorizo frittata is excellent.Fresh squeezed juices are pricey but worth trying. We were visiting our son who lives in SF and ate here twice and were never disappointed. Very attentive staff,

great breakfast fast

By flinty808 |

Super cute interior warm and comfortable - apparently recently moved locations so if it looks closed look down the block.

Delicious Crab Omelette

By Jigger-Fred |

This is a great find in the busy SF. Very cozy restaurant but packed when i got there. Very friendly staff and ambiance is cool. I ordered the cram omelette and was really delicious. The coffee though is bland. Try the scones.... really yummy. Worth a visit.

Great breakfast at decent prices

By george c |

Ate here twice for breakfast and very happy both times. As you walk in, the place looks like a pretty high-end restaurant and is very well done out. Staff are welcoming and polite. The prices are very reasonable for San Francisco, with a good meal coming in around $15 before taxes and drinks. Excellent steak and eggs, and can highly recommend the pancakes. Coffee is refilled on a regular basis. Everything you would want from a breakfast place. Although we only had breakfasts, I would imagine any other meal would be just as good.

Just Art Nevaeou food

By flash_gordy |

Yes it's a nice place but nothing special at all, somewhere where the pretentious can sit and look important or stupid whilst they get charged over the odds for the same food you can get across the road at Mel's diner. Service was great, food was lacking, and I mean the amount on your plate for what you are charged. I left feeling hungry and $48 out of my wallet. Take a tip, go with what you know and just go to a normal café or diner, you really are not missing anything here.

Bug in my food

By Katelyn R |

As soon as they set the plate down a bug was walking across the bread. The food was adequate but nothing to write home about. Didn’t get a discount bc of the bug as well.

Delicious

By kkbug90 |

This place has a home feel to it and is so pretty! We went on a Friday morning around 9 am and were seated immediately. The nice thing about this place is the portion size. It costs the same as every other breakfast place but you won’t leave hungry. I got the garden omelette with hash browns and a salad and couldn’t even eat it all.

This is the place for breakfast.

By Geoff W |

Home plate has a modern atmosphere and friendly service. The food was great (just like down home) and the Mocha just how I like it.

great food, quick service

By Deanne D |

despite the line outside this place, the food is worth the wait and hype. fresh, interesting and a pleasant dining experience (not too loud but not too quiet, either). i got the cafe au lait - will probably try something else because i thought it was quite bland. but their food is amazing. i tried their home plate fritata and swapped the potatoes with a rather generous serving of fresh fruit.

Sorry really expensive for what it was

By A Midlife Adventure |

This cafe is about a block away so taking into account the early start we needed to get down to Fishermans Wharf early for a boat trip we thought we would drop everything and focus upon the inferior structure. We both had pancakes but at 10 dollars a pop we thought this was quite expense. Not sure if we will return

Nice atmosphere but food over rated and bland

By Natalie K |

We must be spoilt we found the food bland, the buttermilk pancakes and the homemade hash brown and eggs. More seasoning and flavour PLEASE, this was the most disappointing breakfast from a highly rated TripAdvisor recommended cafe/restaurant

Home place at Home Plate

By Phil Y |

Sunday brunch gives more healthy options than other places. Elegant environment for small chats or big laughs. A slight wait but manageable. Go early before line gets longer.

Great Brealfast

By Ken T |

Varied menu with classics and creative options. Good quality and very well done. Good Service. Great place for breakfast near the reasonably priced hotels with free parking on Lombard Street in San Francisco.

Nice breakfast location

By Sim W |

Nice ambience, large breakfast selection, generous portions, fast and attentive service and very tasty!

Best breakfast of our trip

By Samuel D |

We dined here on a Friday morning. For a place called "home plate," we expected more of a diner feel, but this place serves up trendy food and drinks. We enjoyed the hot chocolate, latte, and banana supreme drinks to start. We received delicious biscuits with two kinds of spread. For our meal, we ordered the huevos rancheros, breakfast starter, and home run special with chicken apple sausage (recommended!). We loved all of it, and would definitely go back to try more dishes. We felt they were a little understaffed as the three people we saw were scrambling around multiple tables and they were all pitching in different ways.

Classic diner for breakfast

By Kazakh_Andy |

Just a good old diner breakfast, but with a Californian twist. Unpretentious with really good food. The company complementary scone was also delicious.

LOVE AND RECOMMEND!!!!

By kathrynjb1997 |

LOVE AND RECOMMEND!!!! It was our first meal in San Francisco for the weekend and we hit the jackpot. The menu is a tad limited and but delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very clean and almost rich looking. The seating was well spaced and comfortable. The French toast was delicious and the eggs seemed fresh. The potato pancakes were delicious paired with the apple sauce type thing. GO HERE and get fueled up for your day touring San Fran

Home Run

By BeeSkip |

Home Plate served us a great breakfast while staying in the Marina/Cow Hollow area of SF. We were simple as everyone ordered an egg combo plate and we all upgraded the potatoes to the fruit which was $2.00 more. The fruit was fresh and varied and perfectly ripe. The coffee was hot, servers polite and gave good service. Eggs cooked to everyone's desire. We were given complimentary scones before our food was served. The atmosphere was low key and comfortable. When we left the restaurant about 930am and the line for a table was out the door. The word is out...this is a HOME RUN for breakfast. We would definitely recommend Home Plate and look forward to trying something different next visit.

Great Breakfast Spot

By ProvidingFeedback07 |

Happened upon this place when we were staying nearby and are glad we did. The breakfast was very yummy and the coffee delicious. To go with my eggs, I opted for the fresh fruit instead of the potatoes and it was nice variety if berries, kiwi and melon. My husband opted for the potato pancakes as his side and loved them. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Visitors from UK

By mike c |

Found this little gem on our first day and ate there on 8 occasions Efficient friendly staff, great food not overpriced, free warm scones to start, free tea and coffee refills, very clean with excellent toilets

Super Cute for Brunch!

By Bridget M |

Home Plate was quite busy when we arrived an the wait was much longer than we anticipate but we truly enjoyed the meal. Cute decor and cozy chairs we also a bonus. Located on Lombard street, great place to go before walking to the infamous portion on Lombard Street.

Pretty popular brunch spot

By Eric B |

We put our name on the list in advance and seated immediately, but there was definitely a long list of people waiting. They were out of crab unfortunately, but the ham Benedict was perfectly prepared. Place on the inside was very nice as well, looks like it was just renovated.

Excellent Breakfast items

By Warlocke |

We were so lucky this place happened to be open during Christmas day! We waited in line but it was worth the wait. Service and food was excellent! Of the things we ordered, only the burger seemed "normal", everything else was exceptional so lesson learned - stick with the breakfast items - you'll never go wrong. Special shout out to the scones - they were great! Orange juice was also very fresh, I'm glad I ordered. Price was just right as well, which is a good plus. Hopefully they can relocate to a bigger place soon - their current was is quite cramped.

Decent sit down breakfast

By Cvittles |

Large dining area, quick service on a Wed morning, breakfast was good, prices a bit high but it is SF!

Perfect place for brunch !

By KM69_13 |

Went here for brunch on Wednesday and it was just perfect for us! Nice and airy environment, clean and tidy all round and perfectly attentive staff - I have no hesitation in recommending this place! May try to visit again before we leave !

EGGS BENEDICT

By Miles Archer |

I got here early enough for breakfast to avoid a crowd. I ordered eggs benedict. It was pretty good. Service was friendly. Coffee was okay.

Friendly service, nice atmosphere and best brunch in San Francisco

By Anke R |

The waittimes are long, especially in the weekends, but they do everything they can to seat you as soon as possible. Once you enter the restaurant, the atmosphere gives you a classy european feeling and the big seats are very comfortable. The brunch menu is full of unexpected choices and there is a lot to choose from. The servers are friendly and waittimes for the food are not long at all. We will definitely come back, Home Plate is the best brunch we've had in San Francisco!

Great food, staff not attentive

By AliciaLosAngeles_CA |

Was here several years ago, but looks like possible ownership change. Checkin was a but confusing (lil kiosk), but we were seated within 10min. Food was great, but plates were brought all at different times which made it difficult for all of us to eat at sametime. Staff seemed rushed and not focused. Food was very tasty and may try again. If not, lots of other places to select from in the area.

Nice place

By aleruspini |

Great place where we had some nice power breakfasts! Freshly cooked pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruit... well done

Perfect start of the day

By peterRiemst |

Went there several times during our trip to San Francisco; every time it was delicious. Nice atmosphere, great service. Maybe some tables a little bit to close together but apparently normal in San Francisco. Definitely worth visiting and try out several dishes!

Extraordinary breakfast

By DivaTJ |

I stayed at the hotel next door (so there is a discount!). The restaurant starts you off with a scone with two types of jam plus butter. A great indicator of yummy things to come. The breakfast dishes are creative and filling. The menu is extensive and offers something for everyone. Service is super friendly and fast. I drink only decaf coffee and the coffee served here is robust and flavorful. The decor is fun and funky.

Everything on point and reasonable

By Elizabeth G |

We stayed next door and peaked in for Sunday breakfast. Pretty full, but we were seated promptly. Staff were attentive, gracious and team-like. Excellent coffee, 2 small and delicious blueberry scones were served with coffee, before we even ordered. Food was perfectly prepared and plentiful. Prices were surprisingly reasonable.

Excellent breakfast

By PhilipJepson |

This is a really good breakfast place. The food was top notch. All looked and tasted fresh. Service was friendly and quick. Food came quickly. The complimentary scone was delicious.

Great breakfast!

By Paige R |

We had a lovely breakfast at Home Plate, I had the veggie omelette and my partner had the French toast with fruit. They were both delicious ! I would definitely come back if I ever return to San Fran. I would of given them a 5 star rating if they had a coffee machine, I can’t stand filtered coffee! But other than that I highly recommend. The service was also great.

Best omelette in USA

By Polina S |

We have had a brunch in “Home Plate” cafe with my husband. The omelette was the best in USA. the pancakes were good also. The interior is so trandy and lovely.

Great food and excellent service

By inessa981 |

Hard not to love this place - staff is super attentive and you get a lot of complimentary stuff with your meal. Great choice and great taste - we went several times for breakfast and on every occasion chose something different. sometimes you have to queue but it's due to the popularity - no surprise here!

Perfect address for breakfast

By antho g |

We came for breakfast two days in a row at this restaurant and it was really great! Excellent food, served in addition in quantity and with a smile. The frame is also quite classy (watch out for the photos that we see here on trip advisor, most are outdated and do not correspond to reality at all).

Good Breakfast

By Canauk |

We went 2 days in a row Be prepared to be patient when it is busy Service is efficient but appears they may be short staffed. Pancakes were excellent which is unusual. Coffee was hot, which is sadly also unusual. Prices are reasonable, food is good, servers are trying! Highly recommend

Great place for breakfast- nice decor, attentive service

By SFTRVLR |

Really good choice for breakfast whether you're a local or staying at some of the hotels on Lombard. Much more plush and swanky inside than most breakfast places- a huge renovation vs. what Home Plate looked like years ago. Food was top notch- great service that was very attentive to detail. Accommodated multiple special order requests, etc. Only bad part was the tortilla on the Huevos Rancheros was severely undercooked.

BIG breakfast!

By HotLipsHev |

We were staying next door at the Cow Hollow Inn so thought we’d give the Home Plate a try for breakfast, I believe we also got a % off as we were guests next door. The decor is very clean and neat with a modern look, it was pretty full when we went in so there was quite a buzzy atmosphere. I had the California Scramble, which consisted of crab meat, avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, and sour cream, hash brown and of course scrambled eggs. It was HUGE but very tasty indeed. I had to have gluten free so I didn’t have bread but my husbands scramble came with sourdough bread too. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful but it wasn’t a cheap breakfast, however saying that it was so large I wasn’t in need of anything to eat really until dinner time so lunch money saved!

Great Place to Breakfast

By rwtimmer |

We were staying at the Cow Hollow Hotel so we walked to Home Plate for breakfast. It was excellent. It's a small place but we were there right when they opened at 7:00, The scones with homemade jam were excellent also. I had a huge omelette which was very tasty.

Best barbecue in Chengdu

By DavidBrianWisner |

This is a good barbecue restaurant and the best in Chengdu. On American standard it’s probably a 4 but in Chengdu have to say 5. The sliced brisket is the thing to go with, although most the meets are good but brisket is better than good

Best breakfast ever

By Gary M |

We had 3 breakfasts at the home plate as it was near our hotel. I will go back there even if I was further away as the breakfasts were unique and delicious. Every thing we ordered was exceptional.

MY FAVORITE PART OF MY TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO

By Jenn M |

Where do I start? I found this place via the reviews here on Trip Advisor and my friend and I decided to check it out. They've recently moved up the street (and I assume redecorated) because it's ADORABLE inside. (As of July 2018, the outdoor awning is *incredibly* deceptive and less-than-stellar looking.) Inside is modern farmhouse (think Joanna Gaines/Fixer Upper) and the food was some of the best food I'd tasted the entire trip. I had a side of has browns, the Crab Puffs, and a Bloody Mary for breakfast. The waiter brought over complimentary scones with homemade sauces/jams, and my friend had the eggs benedict with a side of fruit. It was definitely the best breakfast food I had in the city. Will definitely be back if I ever visit SF again!!

So fun! So filling! So fantastic! A great breakfast/brunch option in the Marina District

By bostonGM58 |

Home Plate might be the perfect place to have breakfast in the Marina District. They offer a wonderfully diverse menu, and the food is perfectly prepared and artfully presented. Go early, before the line gets too long - this place is loved by locals, and for good reason!

Great place to eat - the exterior belies what is inside

By simonparrott |

Visited six days in a row at recommendation of our hotel. Great breakfasts, very attentive and efficient staff and judging by the way it filled up, with queues outside, very popular. Can’t recommend it enough and love the scones– crispy and fresh every morning with home made jam (and free!)

recommendable

By Diana V |

Excellent place, very convenient for us as it opened early and we loved the place physically and the attention, the food is very good, I do recommend it

Great breakfast

By AimeeLally |

Super cute place with a great menu, great food and great service. Worth the trip out there. Amazing breakfast

Even the Hash Browns were Tasty!

By FJT2011 |

Went here for breakfast and had a wondeful meal. Really great and fresh food. Even normally-bland items like toast and hash browns were very delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive, and even the other patrons were nice. It's a good thing, because the dining room is the size of a postage stamp... this place can seat maybe 30 people. However that just adds to its charm. We definitely recommend Home Plate!

Great brunch!

By AR H |

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was great--we ordered both breakfast and lunch items. The Dulce de Leche pancakes were decadently wonderful. It has a small seating area, but we walked in and were seated right away with prompt service. This is a tasty and affordable place to eat.

Good food and service

By walk1103 |

We used to live in San Francisco but moved to Sonoma a few years ago. We still visit SF frequently, and on one of those visits we stayed in one of the many hotels/motels on Lombard street. For breakfast we decided to try the Home Plate Cafe which was just a short walk down the street. When we lived in SF the cafe was in a smaller location on Lombard, and we passed it many times but never ate there. Now it’s in a new location a block from the old. I noticed that Trip Advisor still lists the old address (2274 Lombard), whereas the new address is 2150 Lombard. We found the restaurant warm and comfortable, and the staff accommodating and courteous. All of the seating, both benches and chairs, is padded, and we thought the place was quieter than most places you find now days. We were there on a weekday morning, and though not “packed”, it was humming with customers. Our son, who still lives in the city, told us that the place is so popular that it has lines out the door on the weekends, so visiting this place may be arduous on the weekends. We both ordered omelettes, mine was the roasted chicken omelette, and my wife’s was the garden omelette. Both came with a slice of sourdough toast and a small salad. While we were waiting for our meal, the cafe provided a couple of complimentary mini-scones and two types of jelly to munch on while we waited. That was a nice touch, but I’m not sure if that happens all the time. The omelettes were very good. They were cooked just right for us, not overdone but not runny either. They were fluffy and quite filling. We realize this was just one visit for us, but we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service. We will certainly keep this in mind on future trips to SF.

Great food & service

By Øyvind Bjørnstad |

Came here twice in three days, and had a great experience both times. Food quality is excellent, coffee flows freely and the personnel are highly attentive. Would recommend to anyone and will come back next time!

We came here twice for breakfast during our stay, firstly because we were recommended as our hotel was part of the same group (10% discount too) then we came back as it was the best breakfast we'd had since arriving in the US. I had French toast (AMAZING!!!!) with chicken Sausage and scrambled egg which was out of this world. My husband had the best Eggs Benedict he's ever had too. My coffee cup was never empty and the staff were all attentive and polite and friendly but not overly so - we easily caught someones attention if we needed anything. Prices were good for San Francisco and with the quality and quantity of the food and the establishment itself it was worth every penny.

Poor place for breakfast

By Ann s |

Tried to have an early midweek breakfast. Nice enough staff but a little disorganized. Coffee was hot and good but pancakes were raw in the middle. Sent them back. Settled on toast . An expensive breakfast but everything in S.F. Is expensive. Better places to eat in my opinion., Mel’s across Lombard not much better. Try bagel places in the area.

Posh breakfast

By Gardengel-IoW |

Not far from our hotel, so sauntered over for breakfast. Was a bit more than casual. Very nice seating. Bright and airy, some outdoor seating available. Nice pancakes, extra syrup not a problem. Fresh OJ. Good service Expensive though

Upscale (?) with good food.

By Joe P |

Had breakfast at Home Plate near our hotel with high expectations due to reviews we read. The vibe is quite upscale for a breakfast place. Not what we expected. The menu was extensive, and the food was good. All we wanted was eggs and toast. Took longer than I expected, probably due to the overall feel of the place - how it was run. Don't get me wrong, it was very nice. Just not the type of breakfast place we were looking for.

Breakfast

By snuge82 |

Staff was excellent, great service. I had the pancake style chourico omelette. It was different. Fairly strong in flavor. Something I enjoyed but probably would not get again. My wife had one bite of the hash browns and would not touch the rest. Wish I had tried them because she can be picky sometimes

Under seasoned food

By anjip_3 |

Staying locally with 10% discount offered we headed here before going sight seeing for the day Both dishes we ordered were under seasoned to be honest they had zero seasoning at all Coffee was watery in taste, ordered latte which was good Service ok but a bit rushed

Relaxed and delicious

By Wallacescottb |

We stopped here in a Monday morning for breakfast and the vibe is very subdued and laid back. The restaurant is quiet and the staff was very attentive. We had several things from the menu (breakfast) and they were all very tasty. There was no wait for us at 8:20 AM but it was a Monday so I’m not sure about the weekend crowd.

Excellent breakfast

By Ralph S |

We were next door at cow hollow inn, 10% reduction for hotel patrons, breakfast good healthy friendly, staff excellent very attentive would recommend.

Brilliant

By Liampc67 |

Can't say it's a hidden gem as it's so highly rated on TA but we tried it because of the ratings and as we are staying next door. To view it from outside you probably wouldn't bother, big mistake, it was excellent. Tiny inside, seating probably for only 30 it was very busy, which is always a great sign. Plenty of hard working team so we didn't wait long, food was fantastic, we were seated right next to the serving hatch and it was obvious the car that was taken with presentation of every meal that went out. 10/10 look it out you won't be disappointed

Bloody good Bloody Mary!

By mkhammu |

Doesn’t look like much from the outside...but... inside is a whole different story! Great relaxed atmosphere, had Bloody Mary’s that were the perfect mix 👌🏽recommend the California burger and cheese and bacon bites- also had the Philly Steak Omelette which unfortunately not so great- too bland. Overall worth the wait 🙌🏽

Lovely breakfast.

By Jackie P |

A super choice of breakfast options, freshly prepared. A pleasant, not too busy breakfast/brunch restaurant. Mid priced

Breakfast start to city day

By Alan S |

It's a great place to start a day in the city (we're from Santa Rosa). A parking garage with reasonable fee?!! Very good food and service. C B Hash made there and excellent. Wife very happy with her omelet. We will return.

Excellent brunch

By Paulus H |

Great service, original dishes, quality food. Fresh juices. Recommend the Spanish scramble. Artsy menu on the wall.

DON'T BE NAIVE!!!

By Michael K |

If you're praising this place, then you either have never lived in SF or ever visited before. Don't be lured because of its proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge -- this restaurant is not worth it just to be saving $1-2 on an Uber fare. The food at Home Plate is average on its best day, but way more important: THE SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND THE STAFF IS BORDERLINE HOSTILE. In a city with so many wonderful breakfast dining options, there is no earthly reason why you should ever consider this place. Hell, you could go to Mel's directly across the street and be way ahead of the game. I'm normally way too lazy to write a review, but I took the time to do this. Trust me: Avoid this place.

Disappointed

By Ninz |

I don’t really leave any reviews at all but this place triggered me to do so! My friend recommended this place. So i went and the service was awful! This place is such a disappointment! In terms of their bottomless mimosa they will require all the party to get it even though one or two people are not drinking or don’t drink at all but they still gonna require you to get it cos it’s requirement for them which is ridiculously obnoxious! The service crews are gonna talk about you if you have any comments about their service and food. It’s not worth it to go on this place just to eat breakfast. Their hash browns were dry and bland and the staff didn’t seem to know how to check out of state IDs. The Manager is not even trying to make accommodations at all! Would not recommend this place!

Popular Local Spot

By Saltyblue |

Service was friendly but a bit disorganized. Iced tea was excellent. My companion's omelet was good; I ended up eating half of it because it took so long for my pancakes to arrive, and they weren't worth the wait. The next day, we went to ihop and I liked it much better.

Very poor, dirty and expensive!

By Fankinator |

Dirty Seats. Expensive. Poor Service - 20 Minutes waiting for 5 Coffee to Go. Never again. That‘s ridiculous!!! How can that be? What does the boss do except taking the money out of people‘s pockets?

Amazing breakfast!!!!

By Rachel C |

Just finished breakfast here and I already can’t wait to go back. So many delicious options to choose from - one of the nicest omelettes I’ve ever had. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful too!! Highly recommend!!!

Great breakfast!

By BenedicteOslo |

The hotel we stayed at didn't have any breakfast service so we took the advice from others on TripAdvisor and walked a block down from the hotel. We were surpriced about the quality of the food. Everything was nice and fresh, the omelettes wonderful and soft, and the fruit perfect. Nothing to fatty or overly sweet! We arrived just after they opened and got a table right away. The place filled up quickly. Great service! We hope to go back to San Francisco one more time and then return to Home plate!

What a disappointment!

By dcwendy |

The buttermilk pancakes were so gloppy they were pretty much inedible. We didn't get the scones until after our entrees and only because we asked for them....and they were not very good. The second entree arrived about 5 minutes after the first one. The omelet was fine, but how hard is it to make a fine omelet? The water was never replenished. Definitely would never go back.

Not worth visiting, IHOP & Denny's are better

By Chris H |

First off, service was really slow. They weren't busy when we arrived & there was no one at the door to greet us & we were waiting to be seated for a few minutes before someone showed up. Once seated again we were waiting many minutes for our server to come & take our order. My wife ordered some hot chocolate however we never received it, we were most of the way through our meal before they finally remembered she had ordered it but at that point she didn't want it anymore. I ordered a waffle, scrambled eggs & bacon. The waffle was thin & it was rubbery. The eggs were ok but the bacon was overcooked, it had that burnt taste to it, anyone who has overcooked bacon knows what I'm talking about. I have no idea how this has been rated as #4 breakfast restaurant in San Fran, I would highly recommend avoiding this place for breakfast. There are much better options in town, both IHOP & Denny's are much better quality than this place, even fast food breakfasts like McDonald's & Burger King are better.

Quick breakfast

By Lisafromwa |

Had breakfast here once during our stay. We're there around 7.15am and found it easy to get a seat. Food was okay. Coffee was pretty average. Started to get busy around 8am.

Bottomless Cafe Au Laits. Service was excellent. Proportions were very solidly sized. Friendly staff.

i had breakfast here and i felt like heaven. Food is great, feels like it is home made food. Great pancakes, nice service and great granola.

Fresh, Fast, Tasty

By Moseyell |

We got a coupon for Mel's while staying at the Cow Hollow Inn in the same building. It looked a little fancy for us, but we ended up enjoying it enough to go back a second time in our three-day visit. We loved the little touches...the free mini-scones with spreads, the very fresh fruit and small lightly dressed greens that came with some orders. The veggie omelet was filled with a great mix of fresh, delicious vegetables...scrumptious .While the prices produced some sticker shock at first, we soon realized that most prices in San Francisco were higher than we were used to. We adapted. Home Plate was a great place to get a hearty, healthy breakfast to set us on our way to a busy day exploring the city.

Wonderful fresh food

By Mercedesmom |

My husband was in A meeting so I decided to go eat at home plate. Wow the services where Amazing I even had the owner out at my table.I had omelette fresh, veggie and the potatoes pancake are awesome. The food that was coming out looked just as amazing the decor is quaint. New favorite breakfast place in San fransisco. The family walking out with me enjoyed it also. Thank you for A delicious scone before my meal.

Amazing breakfast

By daivav |

I went to San Francisco with my family and visited the Home Plate breakfast restaurant on recommendation. I eat very tasty avocado toast, benedict egg, omelette. Everything was perfect. The service is great.

Our favorite SF Breakfast/Brunch spot in the Marina/Russian Hill/Cow Hollow.

By EndlessVoyage |

This is easily the best Breakfast on this side of SF. The photos on Yelp & TripAdvisor are real. I am always blown away at how spectacular the plates look when they arrive. Perfectly presented. I love the Breakfast Board which is stunning and has everything you could want. The pancakes are always stellar. The Salmon Benedict is huge and i like how they put a generous hollandaise on the side. The coffee is also fairly good for these places. I always take our guests here and they always want to return. It’s a treat!

Hidden Oasis

By Robert D |

New location. Loved the breakfast-went with friends visiting from Chicago- they loved it also, we went back a couple of times, great complimentary mini scones- service was Uber friendly- prices were mid range, great presentation, up scale interior. They also serve lunch and dinner- I might go yet again.

Overpriced and uses smuckers...

By Eskimower |

Came here on a Monday late morning and got a table immediately next to another couple. Aside from the almost exclusively pottery barn decor which is a little confused overall, the thing that hit me most was the combination of the 20 dollar Benedict option (it's just eggs...) with Smuckers jams at the tableside. We were given a free starter of two small scones with a couple of homemade fruit jams but the butter was in a packet rather than whipped which took away from the presentation and taste. I ordered the new york steak and eggs (poached). Eggs were cooked well, steal was undercooked and a bad cut leading to much chewing. I feel the price point of this place isn't too justified and you're paying more for the confused although homely decor rather than the quality and presentation of the food. Average at best and I couldn't help wonder if the mels drive in across the road would have offered better value for money as well as the same condiments.

Holiday Breakfast

By Andy |

We visited Home Plate on the last full day of our trip to San Francisco - a decent walk from Fisherman's Wharf where we stayed. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the staff were as friendly as ever. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were typically American (huge). The warm, fresh scones were a welcome opening to the visit, and I'll be sure to visit Home Plate when I'm in San Francisco next. Well worth a visit.

Very good food, bad experience

By Alejandro G |

Very good food. But we had a couple sick, coughing next to us. We didn’t enjoy the meal. We asked the waitress to change our table. But the waitress offer other table next to the sick couple.

First time in San Fran.

By Joy M |

We ate at this place because it was next door to our hotel. Boy// what a find! We liked it so much the first morning, we came back the next day, as well! Highly recommend! Freshly made foods!!!

The Important Stuff was good

By Alta G |

The food was awesome. I would absolutely love to go back and try other stuff. The biscuits they serve you first are great the jams are great I had a pesto spinach omelet thing it was amazing. Everyone at our table really loved their food. The service was lame. 1 their address has changed they're located farther down the street. 2 they make you wait outside. So if it's cold like it was when we went oh well. 3 we saw our waitress once when we were ordering. Never came back for more water, to see if the food was good, we and to ask the person clearing tables what kind of jam we had with our biscuits. That was kind of lame. Also they can only split between two cards. I always think that's a dumb rule.

Great staff, atmosphere & food!!!

By ceasar m |

My girlfriend and I stopped in for brunch and we were very impressed with how clean and nice the restaurant is. (My girlfriend had a high standard lol)Had difficulty finding parking. So we had to park in a parking garage around the corner. (Which is just a quick walk.) Walk to the restaurant to find out they had moved, which was a short walk away. Food was great and filling. (Worth the walk) Also there was a waiter who was serving a very rude, demeaning and entitled customer. The waiter was very patient and professional the whole time. I must say the staff is outstanding. -Thanks Home Plate!!!

Must Visit

By LovesNYC1951 |

If you are staying in the Cow Hollow, Russian Hill or Presidio areas in SF this is a must visit breakfast spot. Recommended by our hotel and less than a block away we decided to try it. First impression when you walk in it is modern, clean, simple decor. The main seating area looks like an upscale home's breakfast nook. Very comfortable. The food was exceptional. I had the Crispy French Toast and bacon. My plate looked like a magazine picture and tasted even better. My husband had a egg based breakfast special and he loved it. Again the presentation was very appealing. Prices reflected the quality of the food. They could use another server during the breakfast rush but the 3 that were there kept the coffee cups filled and the food moving out of the kitchen. They never stopped moving. Guess what, we are going back tomorrow for breakfast before leaving SF.

Excellent

By Edwin R |

Excellent chicken roasted omelet es and French toast . Excellent service and excellent technology to waiting list

Great place for breakfast and brunch

By KFlo0325 |

My wife and I walked here from our hotel in Cow Hollow toward the end of our trip and I wish we'd found it earlier, because we would have eaten here more than once. Beautiful place with great atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent menu. My wife had the Huevos Ranchero and I had the Corned Beef Benedict. Delicious!! Go eat at Home Plate...and go early in your trip because you'll want to go back.

Great burgers, unhelpful and rude waitress

By Maristella S |

Nothing to say about the burgers, both good as well as the chips, unfortunately the Service was not so good. The waitress greeted us almost annoyed, even though it was almost an hour before closing, she took the orders without a hint of a smile and when we were still eating she brought us the bill without even asking if we wanted anything else, then kept going back and forth to check if they were ready to pay... my husband still had the mouthful in his mouth and stopped to take off the dishes... baffling! Your tip was equated with your Service!

Great Atmosphere and Food

By Danica B |

There was a wait but I feel that's always a good sign for good food. Service was a bit slow but i assumed it was due to them being super busy. Food however was AMAZING and made up for the wait. I had the Croffle (new item) and it was perfect and flavorful. Portion size was also perfect for me. I had the Peach Bellini after the mocha coffee both were delicious. I would definitely go back here next time I'm in San Fran!

A great Breakfast and Luncheon Restaurant!

By OD S |

We were prepared to dislike Home Plate because we thought so highly of its predecessor in this location, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The surroundings and decor are appealing, the service is very courteous and efficient (without being "pushy") and the food is excellent (in particular, the bagel and salmon, crunchy French Toast, and potato latkes stand out). We ate there three times in three days (2 Breakfasts and Lunch) and three generations of our family gave it "Two Thumbs Up" in every respect. We think Home Plate is a little pricier than some of the competition in the area, but the value is definitely there! For anyone visiting (or living) in the Cow Hollow or Marina District, we most strongly recommend Home Plate for Breakfast or Lunch.

Exceeded my expectations.

By Dana A |

We love the atmosphere. Clean and modern restaurant.. The service was excellent! The coffee was excellent! My food was very tasty.

Breakfast delight

By Pat M |

Just scrumptious, for breakfast it started with scones. I had 2 over medium eggs cooked to perfection. A salad with balsamic dressing, which I have never had for breakfast but will from now on. 3 pieces of bacon, my hubby said the best bacon he has tasted. Chiabott toast and I picked fruit. It wasn't just any fruit. It was a complete package of strawberries, blueberries, kiwifruit, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, raspberries. I was so filled. Delightful. In fact we went back the 2nd day

Skip the hotel breakfast

By Kirk R |

Situated between Cow Hollow and Chestnut street / Marina neighborhoods. Arrive early to avoid the weekend rush, or get a takeout. What's appears so simple from its menu description is in fact an exceptional and generous breakfast. Lives up to its rating.

Popular for Breakfast

By hitch |

On a Sunday morning, there was a line outside but it moved quickly. Coffee was unexpectedly tasty. Loved the eggs Benedict. I think they make the hollandaise. The chorizo omelette was large and full of meat. They had a soothing “lounge”background music playing, which was noticeably different from many places. Service was fast, considering the crowd. Some of the tables are near the door. This is a cold place most mornings of the year. Sit farther inside.

Beautiful new location.

By How I Sus the World |

This is a brand new location for this restaurant, and it is beautiful. We had a delicious Sunday breakfast here but skipped the bottomless mimosas. All plates were more than ample, I was able to take home half my steak & eggs and was still full. They are now serving dinner, and we were told they do take dinner reservations. Date night anyone?

bright and shiny

By GrandTour23094148737 |

The last time we'd been to Home Plate was nearly a decade ago when we lived in the area. So surprised they moved but the new location is bigger and brighter. Food still reliably good. The new addition for us was the veggie breakfast patty - quite big, more than I could eat. But tasty. So sad no more bluecorn pancakes. Otherwise great breakfast selection.

AMAZING BREAKFAST

By Rachel M |

We had breakfast here on our last morning in SF. Didn't look like much from the outside, but inside was amazing, so classy and tastefully decorated. The service was impeccable, couldn't have felt more looked after, but not over the top in your face. Had an amazing French Toast and a lovely hot chocolate. Would recommend to anyone, and hope the business does well :)

Must visit!!

By Clare |

This place was absolutely perfect for breakfast. We were staying in the hotel above this cafe and so the location was excellent. The quality of the food was amazing and the extensive menu was everything we could have asked for. We would definitely recommend!

Cute and great food

By Charity |

Found this place on yelp...liked the different brunch options and that’s it’s locally own so drove 20 min to try it. Well worth it. Food was amazing!! The staff attentive and bottomless mimosa...well you can’t beat that and they weren’t “juiced” down. Would visit again.

Nice breakfast

By foxymamaruth |

Our hotel front desk recommended Home Plate, so we decided to try it since it was within walking distance. The decor is nice and the restaurant was very clean. We were seated immediately, but our server wasn't extremely friendly and did not introduce himself. My breakfast was tasty, fresh and very good, but the service was a little slow. However, the restaurant does have a nice atmosphere. I would definitely dine here again.

Very filling breakfast. Think twice about sitting at the counter.

By CLo976 |

After having seen the reviews, we decided to try a Sunday morning breakfast (10 am). Less than 10 minutes after putting our name on the list (look for it hanging by the door), we were called. We were offered seats at the counter and took that option. Less than 2 minutes later we realized our error. Unless you are seated at the end of the counter, you face a wall and have your back to the room. 1 seat at the end of the counter lets you sit facing the front door. Will remember that for our next visit (and there will be one on our next visit to the city). Now for the good stuff. Service...prompt and friendly. Food...tasty. Portions...filling. A small scone (complimentary) was given to each of us soon after we were seated. Great flavor and not too filling before our meal. We ordered a veggie omelette with the potato-carrot pancakes and the steak & eggs with a side of fruit instead of the potatoes. Both were excellent choices. The omelette was fluffy and stuffed with vegetables and cheese. It was big enough that only 1/2 of it was finished at the table (counter). Toast is served dry with butter on the side. No bread dripping in butter here. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare) and so well seasoned that nothing else was needed on it. Not the best cut of steak (definitely needed the steak knife) but very flavorful. The side of fruit was larger than expected and definitely fresh. Nothing canned or past it's prime. Although we only spoke with our server when he took our order and dropped our bill, all the servers worked together as a team. Our beverages were never empty and we had everything we could have wanted for our meal. Will definitely return (and wait for a table).

BEST BRUNCH EVER

By George K |

The service was attentive, the staff extremely friendly and the food was amazing! Highly recommend this place.

Delicious reasonable Comfort food at it's best!

By Gigi02646 |

Delishious, fine dining style comfort food in a cozy cafe. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, reasonable. Great staff! I rate a 5 out od 5! I had the corned beef hash and it was a big huge hunks of corned beef and green peppers onions and potatoes. Unusually delicious. I saw the omelets overflowing the plates and people were raving about them. The crab cakes Hollandaise Benedict looked delicious. You will not be disappointed.

Outstanding

By Paul R |

We stayed down the street at the Super 8 and lucked out being close to this spot. The food was fantastic and the service as well! So good we came back for seconds the next day :)

Just a Great Breakfast

By Mark H |

We were lucky enough to be staying a few blocks away on our last San Fran trip. The food is fresh, excellent and just a touch unique. There is a fellow who acts kind of like a sous chef and makes sure every plate looks proper before it is brought out. I think this might be the best breakfast establishment I've ever been to anywhere.

Really great brunch

By Stella M |

Delightful lovely food especially the hast brown. The service too was extremely pleasant and good without being over the top. A lovely environment too.

One of the better brunch options in town.......

By KCinLG |

Cool spot for brunch. Services is fast, food is good and portions pretty sizeable. Never had a cocktail here but I saw a sign on the table, and they offer bottomless mimosas. I THINK it’s $25 and only good for one hour and 15 min. I had the roasted chicken omelet and as healthy and boring as it sounds, it tasted super good. The tomatillo sauce was everything. We ate about noon time, and I didn’t eat again until dinner around 7pm. Portions are pretty fabulous here. The hubby got a basic breakfast, but it tasted better than just basic. Would come back again and host a girl’s brunch.

Insect problems

By Wade G |

Ants crawling up wall and onto my table. Suboptimal. Moved to new table. Asked for add’l napkins several times be ford received. Food solid but unremarkable. Would never return. Get an exterminator, ppl.

Favorite place for breakfast!

By Rebecca W |

Good, hot breakfast at reasonable prices . Wonderful service and wait staff. Rap music in the morning didn’t sound pleasant nor does it match the look and feel of this place . Other than that , it is a comfortable and delicious place to eat breakfast. Good for all family members.

Not a Great Dining Experience

By Alicia C |

2nd time having breakfast at this restaurant. Unfortunately this last time was disappointing. First the decor seems fresh and light when you walk in, however, when walking towards the table you notice the white fabric chairs are stained and dirty. Second we were asked if we were ready to order and we were, but then the waitress said one moment and walked away. She never came back and we had to ask someone else to take our order. Third, we asked for a little cup of salsa and we were charged $1.50. Thought that was a bit much considering we had ordered breakfast items that totaled $100.00+. I think what was a bit unusual were signs on the walls indicating patrons would be surcharged for cleaning "incidentals" associated with intoxication. Just not an overall great dining experience.

very good

By 500merc |

eaten here twice and the quality and service has not changed very good both times can be busy it put your name down on the clip board and u will get served really good would defiantly eat here again

Still great, after all these years!

By Margaret B |

I had not been to Home Plate for many years because it was always packed. I had time to visit their new, larger location on Lombard today and though I just wanted a counter spot to eat breakfast, their new location is "fancier" than the old and has no counter. Nonetheless, I had excellent service and a terrific breakfast . The new decor is upscale rustic. I had the starter breakfast and was given a free small scone. All was delicious. I will recommend to all tourists in Marina looking for a breakfast spot.

Lovely breakfast

By EJ93 |

Loved having breakfast here - food tasted good, great presentation and excellent service. Restaurant is a little further out from touristy part of lombard street / hyde street. I’d come back again with next in San Fran!

Excellent American breakfast

By Micke T |

This place is great! We had a fill breakfast with pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. Mimosas and coffee with that. All food was really good, this was easily the best American breakfast in years. We came at around 10:30 on a Thursday, the place was full but it only took about 5min to get a table. I'm guessing it could be worse on a weekend.

Loved this place

By Sherri S |

It was only a block from our hotel and ate there for the four mornings we were in the city. Loved the scones that was brought to your table as you waited for your breakfast. Everything we tried was delicious and I especially appreciated the option of getting fresh fruit like blueberries and strawberries on yogurt or French toast as most other places just give you melon pieces when you order fruit. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend this place if you are in the area of Lombard and Filmore.

Wonderful breakfast experience

By OldChick61 |

Wonderful little breakfast/lunch place. The omelets that my husband and I ordered were beautifully prepared and presented as well as delicious. The ambiance is welcoming and warm. The staff is exceptional and the open kitchen was like watching a beautifully choreographed dance. But, the most amazing part of the decor is the wall of chalk board, with the entire menu drawn on it. Beautiful. If you are near the Cow Hollow district, don't miss it.

Very Good Breakfast Place in the Marina District of SF

By DjEmcee |

We were very satisfied with our omelettes here. Service is very good. Prices are typical for SF ($11 to $16 for entrees). What stands out is the quality and innovative aspects of their menu choices. Having walked past the new location --- it appears that "January 2018" was a bit optimistic, and I'm going to predict March or April as the actual opening date.

Perfect!

By MrsMc454 |

We had our first San Francisco breakfast here and were super impressed with the whole experience. Food was excellent quality, beautifully presented and tasty. The staff were brilliant - great first impression of the Bay :)

Breakfast two days in a row

By ggintruckee |

We went for the breakfast starter first morning: eggs, hash browns and toast. Homerun special with French toast next morning. Both were very good.

Great breakfast

Super friendly staff very accommodating ordered a frittata and it was amazing and filling!!!!! Off the beaten track cheap and good American breakfast!

Queueing for breakfast? Oh yes!

By DrNefarious |

I wanted an authentic seafood breakfast in San Francisco and having read the reviews of Home Plate we set off next morning try it out. We'd heard of queueing potentially being necessary, what we weren't prepared for was to queue outside in the misty cold SF morning. You arrive at the small premises and if full you put your name on a list on clipboard on the outside window ledge. When there is room, the next names on the list are called in and after a 40 minute wait we were seated. I had been looking forward to the crab cakes so ordered straight up only to be told the las had been sold and a new batch was being made. I was told they could be ready in 15 no guarantee. I was set on them so decided to wait. 15 minutes later and two beautifully fresh crab cakes arrived and boy were they worth waiting for ! With fresh orange juice and coffee,it was a breakfast in bustling authentic surroundings that was definitely more than worth the wait. Sure there are cheaper and quicker places to eat breakfast, but better places, in SF? No, I don't think so.....

Great food on the way to Monterey

By Rob K |

Stopped here on our way out of town to get breakfast, based on a recommendation from our doorman at the Mark Hopkins. It was great food, and a good atmosphere. Would definitely go back again.

Nope

By Tobia Riley |

I stayed in the hotel next to Home plate so I went for breakfast. The prices were very high for a basic breakfast. I had two eggs over easy, two slices of bacon and two medium sized pancakes for over 16 dollars. The pancakes were gummy in the middle and the eggs.not seasoned. I could not finish my meal. The atmosphere and service was good, but the food was not. I could not recommend this eatery.

Overhyped

By alexdrs1 |

Went to this places due to the good reviews, but it was a decision we regret. The bacon was overcooked, the pancakes undercooked. The place look great (hence the 2 stars), but that’s about it. Way too overpriced for what it offers.

Excellent breakfast choice.

By r0yjane |

We stayed at Cow Hollow Inns and Suites next door so got a 10% discount o gave it a try. We didn't go anywhere else for breakfast. A good ambience, friendly and attentive staff and a wide choice to suit most tastes. Our only disappointment was that they do not open later in the day during the winter as we would have liked to try their dinner menu.

A Hearty Breakfast

By gregbA4618TU |

Recommended by our hotel staff and they gave us a 10% discount for mentioning that. It was very conveniently located near the Cow Hollow Inn where we were staying. The food was very good and the ambience, even for breakfast, was relaxing. The seating was comfortable and the place appeared to be very clean. Would recommend the omelettes, but you better be hungry if you order them.

Yum!

Visited here for breakfast on the day of the Pride parade in SF. Arrived around 9.30 and three of us were seated within 10 minutes (agreed to share a table with others). Son had steak and eggs, which he said was lovely. I had the benedict florentine, which was also great. Hubble had huevos rancheros, which was nice but the ‘tortilla’ was more like a floury pancake than a tortilla. Good service, didn’t feel rushed. Would recommend.

Reasonably priced good food in the Marina District

This was a clean contemporary styled restaurant with a nice menu selection of foods at very reasonable prices, something that is hard to find in San Francisco.

Try the poached egg breakfast - Yum

Home Plate was just up from our hotel on Lombard Street and was recommended by the staff. We had a breakfast there and it was fresh with poached eggs done just right, toasted sourdough, crispy bacon, a small salad and then fruit in place of breakfast potatoes. Excellent service from the owner and his staff. Highly recommended.

Pretty food. Flavor is Meh.

The Good: updated the new spot. furnishings and tables are nice. The Meh: food is pretty and neat but underseasoned. Huevos ranchero had little flavor. Pancakes are just OK. hashbrowns are a bit undercooked and underseasoned. over all: Meh. There are better places locally.

pleasant enough

We had breakfast here meeting an old friend, extremely busy and apparently very popular too. A wide selection of meals available, nice surroundings with excellent staff.

We went back multiple times during our visit as this was just such a lovely place for a delicious brunch. The dining area is comfortable. The home made scones a treat. The selection and quality of cooking was excellent. Great place to hang out if you have a long relaxed morning to fill up for the rest of the day.
