Breakfast

Eggs Bennie were just delicious. You can also order it with crab. I'd almost say worth the price. Service was friendly.

Hotel restaurant surprised in a good way

By mudixon |

We were at the hotel for a conference and needed to get lunch. This place was offering a special $5 hamburger for lunch, quite a bit cheaper than expected. The place was busy, but we got a table. The special burger was not customizable (they were making them in bulk), so that was disappointing. Luckily, what I didn't want on it was easily removed. My colleagues got the sweet potato fries to go with it and I got waffle fries. Overall, the food was quite good. Normal pricing is a bit high for what you get, but this special deal was too good to pass up!

Good happy hour, central location

By Hella B |

Nice food and drink options at reasonable prices, not super comfortable. Very convenient location, very friendly staff. Will .definitely go back

Great breakfast, service, location

By CO_Local-World_Trvlr |

I had breakfast on many days during my recent stay at the Hilton. The crab, bacon, and cheese omelette - yum! Good chose of wines for lunch. Not a fan of the burger, but it's a personal thing for me.

POOR SERVICE BY MELISSA!

By JessicaDPDX |

POOR SERVICE BY MELISSA! This time was about the 3rd or 4th time I've went into Hopcity for lunch (I work in an office a block away). I walked over to the self serve side, grabbed a caesar salad and went over to the counter for a cup of soup - which I've done before. I asked Melissa if she had the asparagus soup - her response "I don't know. I don't serve soup from this side of the counter." I explained to her that I've ordered soup from that side of the counter before and her resonse was "Okay. I'm sure you have..." I asked her where I needed to go to get soup if she was not able to get soup for me and she just walked away. At this point, I presume that she's getting informaiton on soup, but since she said nothing to me, I'm not sure. There was a man behind me in line and he said to me that we should both consider going elsewhere. I was about to do just that when Melissa came back with a to-go cup of soup. No question about whether I wanted a cup or a bowl, how many cups I wanted, nothing..... she gave me a dirty look and said "here's your asparagus soup." I told her that I also wanted another caesar dressing and she give me the most irritated look, rolled her eyes, walked over to another employee and seemed to be complaining to him, and a few minutes later came over with the dressing and asked "will that be all?" Now, I'm not picky or demanding about service. I don't need excessive "please" and "thank you" and understand that I'm there to pay for a product and you aren't expected to act like my best friend, but this honestly was one of the worst customer service encounters I have ever experienced. Melissa wanted to make it clear that she was being inconvenienced. She was extraordinarily rude. This is especially shocking considering this restaurant is located in a hotel where service should be at 100%. Melissa's was somewhere around 25%. And, I'm being generous. With so many delis and diners and eateries to choose from on Broadway and in downtown, I see no reason to ever come back and experience the snarkiness that is Melissa's attitude. Visit date and time: 9/21/16 at 12:20 pm.

Relaxing, tasty surprise

the coffee barista was the friendliest I have ever seen ever! He was so considerate and nice. Good coffee too!

Good for a quick drink

Stopped here for a drink a couple of times during a recent conference. Great to have a drink and perched at the bar nice but all a little congested in the lobby

Disappointing Mothers' Day Brunch

By DeHypnotist |

The Hilton used to have a great Mothers' Day buffet. This year, we ended up downstairs at Hop City. They had a Mothers' Day menu, or you could go to the regular breakfast buffet (standard Hilton stuff). I had the Dungeness crab omelet from the special menu. Not bad, not great. The "fresh fruit" site was a couple slices of orange. The Hop City potatoes were insipid. Very perfunctory, lackadaisical service -- nice server but she didn't see me in the corner chair to get my order at first, took her time getting the bubbly to me and same for coffee. Very slow, with not many customers.... as it happens, our omelets came out and were put under the heat lamps and sat... the maitre de at one point went up to where the food sat, looked at it, got something for someone else and left... by the time we got our omelets the hollandaise sauce was cool and a bit gelled, the omelet was lukewarm... And the wonderful dessert buffet mentioned on the menu was minimal. Oh well.

Interesting food options, but very pricey

By 886tinal |

This is in the downtown Portland Hilton, and the prices reflect that. The food choices were interesting - they tried to make the menu locally inspired, but the prices are just too much! The servers were sparse, also, although at breakfast, Gustavo did his best to please everyone.

Typical Hotel Food, But Fun Atmosphere

By mlayton1 |

Title says it all. I was only there for breakfast but it wasn't bad. Nothing spectacular though considering Portland is the home of brunch. Also, they have a great Gluten Free selection!

GREAT SERVICE

By MontanaSplash |

The menu at Hop City is limited. There wasn't much for a vegan, but I found a few things I could eat and I had a couple of very good meals. While the menu was limited, the staff madeup for it with exceptional service. I will return again when I'm in Portland.

In the Hilton Hotel

Good quality ok priced. Only experienced Breakfast. They have a little take out store here which is pretty convenient.

Excellent Customer Service

By THRUN |

My best friend and I went to HopCity today to celebrate her birthday with lunch - it's been kind of a tradition even before the place was HopCity. We both ordered the HopCity Burger well-done. The food was served quickly, but it was obvious that neither burgers were well-done, in fact kind of grossly pink. When the waitress asked how everything was, we told her that we were just kind of eating around the "undone" parts and that the more we ate, the more we saw the non-well-doneness. As my friend said, we didn't want to get the chef in trouble, we just wanted them to know it wasn't cooked to our specifications. From that point on, Nora was such a pro!! We didn't really have time to have them re-cooked, and she said "I'm on it" and as she walked away, she said, "I will let them know," and then, "Your lunch is on us." Later, we called her over to say we really could pay for lunch, and asked her if we could please do so. Nora said, "It's already taken care of!." Later, as we were about to leave, we asked her what we owed for our iced tea, she said "Nothing." She said, "We've got your entire lunch!" Honestly, I don't experience that kind of service much. Nora immediately figured out a solution and executed it, no muss or fuss, and did not make us feel like we were complainers.or out of line. Very impressed at how she salvaged the situation. As we left the restaurant, Nora asked us to "please give us another try." We definitely will.

Inside the Hlton

By Apanda8 |

My husband and I stopped here two times during our Hilton stay. Our first night was entertaining as we had already been bar hopping and wanted to round out the night with a bite to eat and a few drinks. My husband ordered the $5 Sofia burger of the week since Portland was celebrating burger week. The Sofia was third pound burger on a pretzel bun with smoked cheddar, tomatoes, arugula, onions and pickled jalapeños. He said the burger was delicious. I was going to get this burger but they offered no substitutions. Oddly enough they would sub for a gluten free bun but wouldn't allow for no cheese. Not sure why that wasn't okay. I instead had to ordered another burger with a gluten free bun no cheese. My drink that I had ordered and really enjoyed was a watermelon mule. The first time I had one I enjoyed it will yellow watermelon. I actually liked it way better with the yellow watermelon compared to the red watermelon since it made it less sweet. It was a great conversation starter since many people apparently never seen yellow watermelon before. It was mind blowing for some. Haha Overall this place does have some cheaper eats and seems to always be busy.

Staff!

By Karen H |

I wrote another review for HopCity tavern on the Hilton's page, but I also wanted to make a quick mention here. My husband is a frequent visitor to this Hilton and every morning he has a wonderful breakfast at the Hop City Tavern. The food is excellent, but the best part is the amazing people who work at this restaurant. I went on a trip with him last week and experienced what he has been raving about! Fernando, Maria, Tiggy, MJ and a young woman with long brown hair and glasses who works in the kitchen (sorry for forgetting your name!)- were all stellar. We enjoyed chatting with them and sitting a the bar as they whipped up out meals. It a perfect start to the day!

Finally - real coffee

By SteveSaporito |

This is my favourite coffee house in Portland. Matt and Cassandra totally put their soul into every coffee and nothing is an issue. There is always plenty of seating and the tables are always clean and taken care of. Lots of options that are fresh at any time of day when the tummy starts to rumble

A business-style place

By JWG_080353 |

The Hilton obviously made a choice to have a quite business-style restaurant and bar, being located in a neighborhood where many cosy and hip restaurants are. I had steak & frites on my first evening; the steak had been dropped on top of the frites, so that the latter got soft (which should be avoided anyhow). They have a small choice of good wines. My best experience was the "market corner", where you may have coffee and croissants during the day; here, service was very friendly, and the croissants were heated upon request.

Good brews

By LSUTraveller |

Good place to gather in the Hilton on 6th. Good options and flavors on the brews tasted - especially the amber. Nice place and good service.

Lobby Sports Bar

By JoAnn M |

The burger was burnt as was the bun. It is advertised to have tomato jam on it. If it was there, you could not taste it. The blueberry crisp was fair at best. It was advertised to have hazelnut ice cream on it. It was vanilla. Good vanilla but vanilla. The Brussel sprouts are killer. The service was mixed. One waitress was pretty good. The others were atrocious. One presumed I wanted to put the meal on my room and did not give me the option. One did not give me any ones when bringing my change back. Did she not want a tip?! I had to practically grab the wait staff to get a bill. Would I choose this place? No. However, if in the hotel I would not refuse. If given a chance, I would go for a walk and eat elsewhere.

Quick and friendly service

By Nichole L |

My americano was on point every morning. I also tried the breakfast sandwich, it was delicious and HUGE! If you're hungry, get the breakfast sandwich.

Grilled Brussel Sprouts! To die for...

By OSUfanHouston |

I eat alone a lot on the road, I love a welcoming staff and quirky menu. I can honestly say, Grilled Brussel sprouts should be the new flatbread. These are NOT your mother's brussel sprout mash served alongside some boiled meat, these are addictive. These, some protein and dark ale, were a great finish to a long day. The menu has all the basics, generous portions, priced right and served by a friendly staff. Plenty of beer, wine or spirits to start your evening or end the day. Cannot go wrong making a stop here.

Slow

By Jorge P |

Very laid back place, but it was a bit slow on service. All the employees were huddle at the bar while I was the one person waiting for my waiter or even get a menu. Once I placed my order, I waited longer than the average turn-around. The lamb burger was very good, a bit greasy (that's maybe the bacon or the egg).

Great breakfast

By sgvette11 |

We were staying here at the Hilton. We had breakfast here and it was just great. All fresh delicious food on the buffet. They had a great steak hash that I was in love with. Good service. We have a super early flight tomorrow which disappointingly keeps me from eating here again. Great spot.

The food is delicious and the staff is wonderful

By Anne H |

I have a lot of allergies and the staff was so helpful and willing to make changes to the menu. Room service came from the restaurant and the person on the phone was very glad to alter the dish I ordered.

Mediocre food

By spicyjina |

Friendly service but food selection is minimal and mediocre quality. Convenient but not worth stopping by

Just OK

By Jrstwo |

Had a meeting in the hotel. Food ok & service ok. I’m sure they do well because they are in a major convention hotel. Really not much no to say.

great breakfast

By ThinkerDoer |

I can't speak for other meals, but the breakfasts are fabulous, and a pretty decent price. Pretty smooth and friendly service. Nice selection of well-prepared breakfast items.

Nice restaurant in Hilton Hotel

By MWSki |

Hop City Tavern is convenient if staying at the Hilton. The service was fantastic however the food was only okay. There are so many wonderful, eclectic restaurants within walking distance, check them out if you have time.

Good beer selection

By Swimmy128 |

They had a decent selection of local beers. You could do a sampler flight if you wanted. The bar tenders were all friendly. I did not have any food so can’t comment on that.

Excellent food and service

By V W |

Hop City is a casual but still very nice restaurant, the food is great and the bar arranged in a way to socialize and comfortably enjoy a drink. I have been here for dinner, drinks, and breakfast and every time received a very tasty meal with great service. Just recently the server Tigisti was very sweet and made sure I had everything I need for my breakfast. Place is very much recommended.

Open design, good food and drink.

By 949ww |

Interesting open design in the lobby of the Portland Hilton. Interesting menu, good food. Excellent service.

Good Burger

By Pat K |

We were tired and decided to stay in with a late dinner. Short staff but hustled to meet our needs. Food was tasty. Pub Burger was better than expected

Really nice

By Trbear |

They have changed up the format since we were here last, but is still a great breakfast spot. The buffet is so fun with all kinds of wonderful pastries, sweets, donuts, and even bacon topped maple bars. Eggs, all kinds of breakfast meats, cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, etc make for a full and satisfying start for your day. Genuine, and friendly servers always take good care of us, even sending us off with a goodie box for my birthday. They're the reason we always book this Hilton for our stays in Portland. Partner had a nice lunch here as well, and enjoyed her soup-salad combo. Thank you all, see you soon!

Good place for a burger

By MaryJZemper |

Had a nice, light lunch here; there are a lot of choices on their menu; something for (almost?) everyone. Great beers, friendly service.

Come here for drinks rather than breakfast

By Emily I |

This restaurant is inside the Hilton Portland Downtown and where HHonors breakfast vouchers are redeemable. They offer a full menu along with a breakfast buffet that includes: eggs, bacon, pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal, and assorted pastries. While the assortment was good, the eggs and bacon were cold. I thought maybe it was a fluke because I had some of the last eggs in the pan, but even on my second plate the eggs were cold. I'm guessing this restaurant is frequently busy for breakfast with many hotel guests opting to eat here. However, the service was not quite up to par. I waited behind 3 other people in line for over 5 minutes to be seated (when multiple employees saw us and numerous empty tables). Once seated I was not greeted by a server for another 5 minutes nor was coffee offered. The reason for the third star was the bar. I visited the night before with some colleagues and it had a decent beer selection (although shorter than what I would have expected from the restaurant name) and was lively.

Great breakfast....

By Jake_Trout |

Ralf (manager) and Gustavo (server) made our breakfast vist much better than your normal "hotel" morning meal ... add in the intetesting (and very good) french toast as well as a solid american (eggs, ham, potatos, etc.) Breakfast plate.... Looking forward to breakfast again!

In the Hilton - Pricey Breakfast Menu Choices (others in market) - good staff

By PAMechMom |

My son and I just wanted a basic breakfast. Looking at the menu, we'd be spending nice dinner prices though. We went into the market area where they sell fruits, yogurts, sandwiches, pastries, etc. The staff recommended the sandwich bag - includes a sandwich, chips, fruit or granola-type bar, and a water. We each got a bag and the food was good. Very friendly and helpful staff!

Good Service/Good Food

By lefont71 |

This is your typical hotel restaurant/bar. Food is good, but nothing exceptional. Breakfast was better than the lunch or dinner I had. And the service seemed better in the morning as well. If staying at the Hilton, I would venture out, plenty of great restaurants around within 10 minutes.

Great breakfast!

By Lisa O |

The buffet was to die for and lunch was awesome as well. The menu is a bit different but everything was good.

A great barista and Stumptown

By barkleykraken |

I should have gotten the baristas name because he was so personable. I was with my little girl and he was able to entertain her while he made our drinks and gave us some options of what to do in town. Later that day we came back to grab some snacks for the train and he saw us and said "Hey, Superdad welcome back!" The kids have not stopped laughing and talking about the Superdad incident. The coffee, coconut latte and homemade pop-tart were all excellent.

Bad even for a hotel restaurant

By Kurt N |

On my first visit, the bartender was so lazy. I had to ask for my place setting when my food came out and he looked at me weird. My drink was empty for a good 5 minutes and the bar was quiet. The French dip came out with fries while the menu says a pickle and soup are the side, I asked him what was up and he kinda waddled off and silently dropped a plate of pickles in front of me. Oh the food sucked too, and at hotel price. Luckily I was using f&b credit. On the second visit, the "smash" burger was not a smash burger and they didn't even ask what temperature. Suffice to say it was bad. Free is too much to pay.

Excellent burgers and waitstaff

By Mark A |

I ate there twice- burgers, and they were happy to swap fries for salad. Waitstaff seemed very intent on giving good service.

Small menu, average food.

By Cathijoon |

the only restaurant at the downtown Hilton, and it was a disappointment. Ordering is a mess, service is spotty and the food is basic.

Great service!

By gomerland1 |

Had a quick breakfast before a conference. The food and service was great!! Kudos to chefs Fernando and Emily! Keep up the great work.

Great food awful service

By madbeaut |

We sat at the bar twice during our stay at the Hilton. The food at this tavern is excellent however the bartenders provide terrible service. Especially the woman bartender. She does everything she can to not serve you. It was really odd. Bring the service level up to the food and I would have given this a 5.

Good drinks and service

By travelinjep |

This bar is just off the lobby of the Hilton. They had good handcrafted cocktails, including some champagne cocktails and friendly service

Great, fun gathering spot

By Jane D |

Was here twice on a business trip - once for an alumni gathering with appetizers, wine, beer; and another for a quick lunch during a conference. The wait staff was friendly and professional. Great recommendations. For lunch, they offer two and three course options . We had the 3-course option with a cup of soup, small salad and small flatbread. Delicious and quick!

Perfectly prepared food and excellent service!

By Dr. Tim |

As part of our stay at the Hilton Executive Tower we ate breakfast three days in a row at the Hop City Restaurant. The food was great and the service superb. We had the Dungeness Crab Omelet which included bacon, leeks, mushrooms, aged cheddar, red bliss potatoes and toast. Another day we had the Corned Beef Hash which included two eggs, red bliss potatoes and toast. The final day I had Bagel & Lox which included red onions, cucumbers, capers and dill cream cheese. All the food was perfectly prepared with nice generous portions. I highly recommend!

Only restaurant and tavern in Hilton Hotel

By Elizabeth W |

Wonderful place to eat, drink and visit with friends. Waitstaff, Leisa and Kaela(sp) were great. Nora was wonderful at breakfast; very caring and attentive.

Hop City Tavern and Market was very nicely done. the market was to one side

By Carol M |

We had a drink in their bar and found it very nice. We also ate their breakfast buffet and found it very good .

You should never try to date your summer fling. Just enjoy the memories.

By baileygracerose |

I had been to Hop City for breakfast earlier this year and it was amazing on all levels - food, service and environment. My only regret was that I only had one stomach because the menu looked so good. It was with that in mind that I could not wait to make it back to Portland and Hop City. I am sorry that I did. Due to a recent injury I arrived at the restaurant in a wheelchair. We approached the reception stand waiting to be seated. Someone behind the bar who appeared to be sick shouted out that someone would be with us in a minute. Nora came to seat us. I am still curious why she chose to lead us through an obstacle course instead of seating us in an area that would not require moving chairs aside so that I could move through. It was not crowded so it must have been to seat us in her section. If we had sat in another section, I could only imagine that the skies would rain fire. Nora seemed tired or uninterested. She was kind enough to cough over our water glasses and still bring them to our table. I ordered cranberry juice. For breakfast I ordered the Blackberry Streusel Pancakes and my dining companion ordered the Corned Beef Hash. I asked if it was possible to order a side of sausage and apparently it was. Price and quantity are a secret until you get the check. Being seated near the chef's area was unfortunate. Lots of banging of cookware and plates made conversation a challenge. We had time for conversation while waiting for the last of the cranberries to be squeezed for my juice ordered over 10 minutes earlier. My pancakes were delicious. Fluffy with just the right amount of streusel topping and granola. Though it came with a small pitcher of warm syrup, I only used a little for fear of diluting the taste of the blackberries. The sausage - there were four - had an odd taste which did not blend well with the pancakes. The corned beef hash as reported by my companion was good but not the best he had ever had. But breakfast came to a screeching halt when my companion found himself chewing on paper within his hash. I would have brought this to our server's attention but she had disappeared after dropping off the check. Maybe she was on break. And the other two servers walked past me as if I was invisible. I am in a chair with a cast on my leg and my wheelchair is sitting off to the side and yet I was invisible. So as I sat there waiting - and fighting back the urge to drop a glass given that "excuse me" was not garnering attention - I was deciding that we had made a big mistake that morning. When Nora returned I brought the corned beef paper to her attention. She went away to consult with the chef and came back with an explanation. Her explanation was that the paper was on the plate to keep the tiny pot of corned beef hash from sliding around on the plate. The only problem with that explanation is that it was not on the plate or stuck to the bottom of the tiny pot - her other explanation. It was in the food. I go out to eat to enjoy meals that I could not easily prepare at home. I do not go out to experience bad service and to engage in back and forth with my server over foreign materials found in food. So the only tip I offer for the meal is this - do not argue with your customers. I should have just enjoyed the memory of my initial fling with Hop City and not gone back to try to recapture the experience. Live and learn.

Cute bistro and market in the city

By Karolpdx |

I enjoyed a nice salad with a friend. We had lunch at the bistro. It was not crowded but the service seemed to be spread thin. I liked the little market and the compute area. The food was very good. I was helped by the valet service to find my friend who went to the wrong restaurant. thank you so much young man!!!

Dynamite breakfast and the staff make my morning!

By Rachel S |

I work down the street and stop in pretty regularly for breakfast meetings or just w/ friends. The food is awesome (avocado toast w/ pork sausage is my favorite!), and the staff is so friendly. I like to sit at the bar to watch them work and the staff is so personable - you can tell they love what they do, and it shows in the food. Fernando, Marie, Tigi all make my day when I come in, thanks for remembering me and greeting me with such enthusiasm!

Solid bar food with excellent service

By jsboregon |

I've eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and had very well prepared, reasonably priced meals every time. Located with the Hilton lobby, it probably gets good foot traffic but I've never had to wait for a table. They have a fish and chips dish that is gigantic, and delicious. They have a few different burgers and can accommodate a GF bun request (they also have GF bread for breakfast toast). Even if I'm not staying at the Hilton, this is a reliable restaurant for well prepared bar food selections, and a nice array of brews!

Breakfast was great with Tigisti

By Sean M |

Some friends and I had breakfast 3 days in a row. The food was great, portions were plenty and the best thing was our server Tigisti was fabulous and such a delight! Her bright smile welcomed us each morning. Make sure you ask to sit in Tigisti's section!

Good food and nice people.

By mkkstrr |

Fernando was especially nice. The omelet was fantastic . Good food and incredibly friendly staff. I loved it and will go again .

Brilliant Business Breakfast

By Jim C |

Attended a conference at Hilton Portland and had daily breakfast at this place. It was near perfect every day. Interesting menu with old standards (omelettes, pancakes) and spectacular weekly additions (lemon curd infused French toast, Dungeness Crab Benedict). Fernando cooked up a magical meal for me each morning, and Nora always met me with a smile. Fernando & Zack paid attention to detail, right down to the steamed asparagus and broiled plum tomato garnishes. Wonderful way to start the day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Convenient

By FromAway67 |

I had a beer here with business acquaintances, and coffee and a danish the next morning. It was convenient.

Convenient and awesome service

By ricardoW6796CG |

I walked in for some quick lunch and a Chai tea. I had a GrindCity sandwich and the Cheese & charcuterie tray. The Barista was awesome, friendly and very helpful. I would go back for a quick lunch anytime.

AMAZING Breakfast Buffet!

By Summer K |

We ended up eating breakfast here three times during our weeklong stay in Portland. The breakfast buffet was absolutely FANTASTIC, especially since we could add a made-to-order omelet to our meal. The fruit was so fresh and the Maple-Bacon Doughnuts are to die for! It may be a bit pricey for breakfast, but you'll leave very full and satisfied!

Hop City

By nick55528 |

Ralf is the best host! He took care of my entire family all week. The food was outstanding. The breakfast buffet was a little pricey, but well worth it. Very fresh fruit, and all the other breakfast items you could ever imagine.

Solid lunch

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

Part of the Hilton lobby. Nice open space and ability to sit at counter. Had the lamb burger which was deluxe in its toppings. Quite good though heavy and a bit pricey. Nice latte. Good wine selection. Decent service.

Skip the main course

By Bj D |

Went for the Portland dining month menu. We were not initially given that menu, but got it upon request. We were pleased with our first courses, a beautiful salad with shaved parmesan and dates, and a scotch egg with hot mustard. We ordered cocktails and had to send back one (tasted like very watery lemonade) but got to choose a replacement at no charge. The allspice was very strong, and I think it would be better warm, especially in this weather. The main courses were real disappointments. While the accompaniments like the mushrooms and onions were wonderful, both the beef and pork were VERY tough and chewy. They were very hard to cut. The pork, at least, had a lovely taste of pork, but the steak had no redeeming qualities. I found the gravy salty, but that might be personal taste. We had some redemption with dinner as the pear tart was quite tasty. Mostly this was due to the delicious crust, as the pears were almost indistinguishable from apples.I didn't much care! The cobbler was not as I'm used to, with more of an oatmeal crumble or streusal top, and a filling more like rhubarb jam, with only occasional individual pieces of fruit like blueberries. I'd have to say not worth the price unless they choose better cuts of meat.

Great Ambiance, Delish Food, AMAZING Staff!!!

By Paul B |

Had the pleasure of having an awesome lunch at HopCity. Vanessa cooked up a scrumptious burger accompanied by perfectly crisp garlic fries and a light mixed greens salad with just the perfect dressing! This place has such great food but what really sets them apart is the AMAZING staff! Hostess Michelle and my server Nora are just so accommodating and friendly you can’t help but feel their sincerity and welcoming attitude. I wish I could name the other servers too as I noted they are all so great with uplifting cheerful spirits and saying hello to all guests weather they’re waiting on them or not. Can’t wait to come back!

Convenient and Good

By worldfamousjeff |

I had lunch here just after checking in, a turkey sandwich and local beer. It was good. The service was fine. I went back for breakfast the next morning and had oatmeal and the nitro Stumptown cold brew, both of which were excellent.

Nacho week

By shewholovestoeat |

The nacho for this special was ok. I did like the amount of meat they put on the chips, but the chip helping was a bit small. They also ran a special, $10 for a beer and the nacho. That was a fun surprise. Sat at the bar, nice staff.

Hotel bar/restaurant..that is all

By Stew M |

We chose this place for Portland Dining Month as the options looked good. When we arrived, we had to search out a person to seat us. There was a loud mixer/conference goer group at the bar/lobby area. Our server was good, but automatically assumes everyone is visiting. The beer choices were pretty generic for a place called Hop City. My wife had a cocktail that was decent..some kind of tequila. I opted for the Dining month Lamb...medium and my wife ordered a greek salad. The service was pretty quick..there was really few folks eating there. My Lamb burger was at least well done and the Greek Salad dressing was very strong and not flavorful. The garlic fries were pretty good. Too bad...if you're doing dining month, bring your A game. But it was ultimately just a generic hotel restaurant. Can't imagine returning with so many other choices

Ok food

By Dennis W |

Since we were staying at the Hilton and get the free breakfast coupon for Hop City, had breakfast 2 days in a row. 1st day ordered off menu. Not good service, had to ask for juice, ask for water, then when asked said yes to coffee. Fried eggs not cooked. I should have known that when asking for Med.well but not hard and the waiter kept saying medium that it probably isn't an option on their order screen Anyway the whites were runny. Waiter never came back until I asked for check. No refill on coffee and had to stop server to get the check. 2nd day did the buffet and I give myself 5 stars for the self service LOL. Ordered omelet. Took a long time to arrive and waiter wasn't around much. Had to track him down to ask if I should pick up the omelets from the cook area. He then got them. I then waved him over for the check and he asked if I wanted coffee refill. Said yes because I wanted more than 1 cup. Not sure if they are understaffed, but servers do not check back other than take order and drop it off. The Oat Meal was excellent.

Really head and shoulders above the usual Hotel restaurant

By ALXVA1 |

The open air concept is not a personal favorite, but Hop City was a finely tuned machine. I was attending a conference of Travel Professionals and the restaurant went from deserted to slammed in less than 10 minutes. The operations were impeccable. Most of the tables were 4 tops or more, ours was 8, and all of the food came out together, hot and ready to eat. We had one small glitch, a sandwich with Mayo when none was the request. The Wait person, Tisnini (?), handled it with grace and had a replacement on the table in less than 5 minutes.

Good Espresso, Breakfast & Service

By D i |

Wee were just staying in the Hilton where it's located, and got an espresso & Latte with a quick breakfast. We expected it to be pricer than some restaurants, but expected that since it's in a hotel and convenient. All was very good and our service was too!

A very good hotel eatery

By Valerie P |

This is the eatery in the Hilton Downtown hotel. It is just off the lobby, so it is very casual. Three of us had breakfast there one morning. After waiting a few minutes, our waitress breezed by, leaving a pot of coffee on our table. Having no chance to tell her I wanted hot tea, I had to wait a while for her to come back. It was a basic breakfast with gluten free options, which was important to my niece however, burned gluten free toast was not what she ordered. It never should have been served! The rest of our meals were fine. We also ate there for dinner. I believe both meals were a little short staffed because it took time for service. That being said, the staff was working their butts off. I ordered the fish taco appetizer (2 tacos) and a cup of the the mushroom soup. Both were very good and filling and the price was very reasonable for a high end hotel. Sometimes you just want a quick, simple meal after a long day. This fit the bill. I would eat there again.

Enjoyed many meals at Hop City during our conference. Really appreciated the delicious breakfast buffet. Thank you!

Great place

Had dinner before a show. Nice menu and the food was really good. Thought prices were reasonable. Service was also very good.

Above average hotel food

By 94121travel |

Hop City is trying very high to be a foodie enclave and they do an ok job of it for a hotel restaurant. Corn doggies (think corn dog but slider sized) were good. Staff was way, way too up but apparently that's their thing.

Lunch on a bit of a budget, but delicious.

By Mollymoo4u |

We were quite a large group of diners, but we were served quickly. The fish and chips looked wonderful! I had a small salad and half of a sandwich. Fresh, and delicious!

Solid breakfast buffet

By Debbe M |

Staying in the hotel for a conference. Good breakfast buffet. Gluten free options. Eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, pancakes, dry cereal, cut and whole fresh fruit, bread, bagels, and oatmeal. Had 2 evening meals here. The menu is limited considering all the options for breakfast. The lamb burger was exceptional. Good bar menu and wines by the glass.

Stay away.

By Dog Bears of Oregon |

Terrible. $20 for a bad caesar salad on a paper plate with plastic utensils. No table service-more like a cafeteria with very little to choose from.

Quick delicious lunch within the Hilton Portland

By love2live4ever |

While at a conference at the Hilton and not a lot of time, I ate her twice. Once I had a brunch item, which was a delicious flat bread pizza topped with peppers, chicken, avocado and fried eggs - very unique. On another occasion I had the fish and chips, which consisted of a nice portion of Alaskan halibut with sweet potato fries. The tartar sauce was especially delicious. All of the staff were friendly and attentive. So the food was not mediocre and the staff were not at all apathetic!

Decent Pub Food

By Mark P |

HopCity is located in the Hilton. It offers pretty good pub food at reasonable prices. Service is friendly and pretty quick too.

Interesting named Hilton restaurant that wasn't that interesting

By Doug H |

We were downtown and hungry and saw the sign advertising this restaurant. The signage invoked the kinds of beer and food associated with this city so our expectations were high. What we found, however, didn't meet our expectations. The service was okay. Perhaps professional would be a better term than friendly and helpful in a reserved sort of way. The beer selection, in spite of the name, didn't have the depth or variety I expected. The menu had an adequate number of selections but nothing that stood out. In spite of not being busy the delivery of our food and the check at the end of the meal took longer than expected. The food was good but not memorable. The pub fries were rather limp, for example. The lunch experience wasn't a bad one but it wasn't what we had expected from the signage and from a hotel the caliber of the Hilton.

Lunch was great!

By htsteacher |

First time we've ever been there. it was raining as were walking from our hotel looking for a place for a late lunch, and we noticed the Hop City Tavern. Beautiful restaurant. Awesome food. I had the Loafer which is a grilled meatloaf sandwich and my sister ordered the Crab Pot Pie! Both were delicious! Service was great, too! So pleasant inside while it was raining as it does a lot in Portland!

Arrived in Stump City late & hungry. Despite walking in 30 minutes to closing the staff was friendly. Ordered a Stella Artois, American burger with sweet potato fries, Comparable to Ruby Tuesdays & Dennys .

Mac and cheese was amazing

By travelgalAvon |

This place is hopping (and loud as a result) That said I still can't stop thinking about the Mac and cheese with bacon...soooooo good. Highly recommend

Terrible service, mediocre meal.

By finney9685 |

Let me say I’ve waitressed, and I appreciate the challenges. I arrived at Hop City Tavern located inside the Hilton Downtown, starving having just gotten in from a nonstop from the east coast. It wasn’t “slammed”. Waited at hostess stand for over 10 minutes. Decided to sit at bar. I was ignored for over 10 minutes. Finally my order was taken for chicken chopped salad and iced tea. After 15 minutes my salad arrived, but it was a bowl of lettuce with an ice cold chicken breast on top, and I had to search and tilt the bowl to detect the merest hint of dressing. There were three minuscule bits of blue cheese. No bacon or onion. A few bits of corn and tomato. I had to ask for more dressing - it just never came. So I asked someone else. It was some of the worst service I’ve ever had. The food was less than mediocre. If you’re going to serve food, take some pride in it. This was simply a lack of caring from the kitchen and the wait staff.

Thick soup

By Betsy S |

Ate here 3 times during an annual meeting being held at the hotel. First meal was breakfast. Very good breakfast - presentation was really impressive for a simple breakfast order. Second meal was a bowl of soup for dinner. I ordered the creamy tomato soup - and was more like a thick tomato paste. I was hungry so I ate it anyways - had good flavor and came with a hunk of bread so I was able to dip the bread into the paste. Third meal was another go at the tomato soup. I asked the waiter to take a look at the soup for me before I ordered it again. It was actual soup this go around - and was really good!

Great Service and good food.

By George W |

When we came the restaurant, itwas bustling, servers running around, everyone seemed busy. The Host, Dominique, had us sat, got us coffee, and water all within the first five minutes of seeing her. Hard worker and a can do attitude! We were served by Sean who was friendly and prompt. I had the smothered breakfast bowl which was delicious and my wife enjoyed the buffet with the kids. I thought it was going to be a nightmare by the way it sounded and looked from the outside of the restaurant but I’m happy to say we were really taken care of. Thank you !

Beautiful, tasty meal

By Vanessa R |

Had the dungeness crab omelette and it was fantastic! The staff member that came up from room service to help out was so sweet! Thank you for your recommendation on breakfast!

OK pastry and coffee in Portland

By Richard K |

The cinnamon roll was a little dry and the coffee average. The seating area near service was very good. Centrally located in Portland

Breakfast is good

By Rhonda B |

I ate here twice for breakfast during a conference, and once at the Market. The Market experience on my first day wasn't good -- I expected a fresh egg and bacon roll, but it was wrapped in foil and had been sitting under a heating lamp for some time so was dry, overcooked, and tasteless. From memory is was around $7. The same could not be said for the sit-down breakfast in Hop City itself. The second morning I had the Bangers and Red Hash (about $17.25) -- absolutely delicious, with the eggs cooked just the way I'd asked, and the diced roasted vegetables (potato, sweet potato, beets) adding a lovely flavour. The only issue was that the narrow plate was packed with food and the bits of veges kept falling off the plate -- either use fewer vegetables, or a bigger plate. The third morning I had the Eggs Bennie (about $17.95). Heaps of Hollandaise sauce, lots of bacon, two poached eggs cooked perfectly, and some fresh fruit on the side. This is NOT a cheap breakfast, but it is very good.

Good food

Good menu choice, just off Hilton hotel lobby so perfect for hotel guests. Reasonable price and tasty...what more can you ask for?

The Market @ Hilton Portland: Convenient, Upbeat and Reasonable

By Lori T |

When staying @ the Hilton Portland main tower on SW 6h street, and only being in town for a few days to visit the local Portland highlights, we wanted to grab a quick, filling and reasonably priced breakfast to start our day. On the first floor lobby of this property across from the front desk are two options for dining. The totally open concept with an acceptable noise level showcases HopCity Tavern a more formal style of dining which includes sit-down table service, a full bar with seating, and a beautiful open kitchen. Beyond HopCity is the second option, The Market, which is a more laid-back form of dining that offers many healthy grab-and-go (nuts, granola, organic options) or on-the-go breakfast and mid-day items as well as counter service where many pastries (bagels, croissants), hot breakfast and beverage choices are available. We elected to dine @ The Market each of the three mornings due to convenience and some of our selections included Bob’s steel cut oats served with a side of raisins and brown sugar (large portion, hot and thick and delicious), croissant breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese (hot, flavorful and delicious), freshly brewed iced tea sweetened with honey and terrific coffee. The sitting arrangements were casual with multiple tables and chairs that faced the busy street traffic. This was the perfect way to start each day as we made plans for our daily adventures.

Really Good Hotel Food!

By J E |

Stopped in for dinner and breakfast while staying in the area… mostly to meet with coworkers. The food is actually really good, for “hotel food!” They have a basic menu for dinner, but a much better menu for breakfast. Their burger was actually made really nicely, but their cajun tots were incredible! For breakfast, I like spicy/spiked-up dishes, so their breakfast bowl with jalapeños added was incredibly good! That crema they use with chipotle flavoring added is really good too! Service we received during our meals was friendly and helpful too. There are plenty of large tables and space to spread out, especially for business meetings. It’s worth a stop in while staying here!

Amazing drinks and flavorful food

By KarenH302 |

We went here for dinner on our first night in Portland. We didn't know the area to well and it was a holiday weekend so there weren't many restaurants open. I'm so happy we found this place. We couldn't decide what to order so we ordered the mac and cheese and meatloaf sandwich and shared both. Neither disappointed! I couldn't even pick a favorite.

Burger week GUT BOMB!

By heathgirly |

I left with a gut bomb of disappointment. Fries were described as 'rosemary with truffle oil' - it was an oily, poorly cooked, bland basket of fries. The burger was over-cooked and served on a stale bun. This is a horrible representation of Portland restaurants and should be banned from Burger week. Beers were $7 a pint and a 4 oz poor of local Stoller wine was $14! Not cool. I love this lobby vibe and recommend this hotel for guest - just eat somewhere else.

Good breakfast

By Joyce C |

Only had breakfast here one morning and it was very good. A little on the pricey side but enjoyed it.

West Coast comfort food, fresh local ingredients and overall vibe

By FlyingAlpaca |

Had dinner twice and brunch here. I often avoid the hotel restaurant (due to mostly generic food), but it was cold outside and I had such a good experience the first night that it was a pleasure to come back. The menu isn't huge, but everything we ordered was tasty for both brunch and dinner. I believe the hotel is run by the same folks as the swankier Jackrabbit restaurant across the street. Hop City was packed on Saturday night (need a reservation), but fine to walk in on Sunday night. The market serves well-made coffee drinks, pastries, and light lunch-y fare. Both the restaurant and market get style points for the open atmosphere that felt distinctly Portland at its modern urban best.

Amazing service and food

By AmberTuan |

The service was by far the greatest I had. Our waitress, Leisa, was extremely nice, helpful, and funny. I loved the warm atmosphere of the restaurant, and all the people were nice. The food was high-quality, and it was all for a very good price. Loved it, and want to go there again!

Good, but...

By afrodiva2003 |

Had dinner and lunch there the next. The fries were cold, and I didn't like the flank steak. But I might have been asking too much for that cut to be cooked medium well without it coming out dry and tough. At lunch, tried the brunch burger. Even cooked medium well, it was much more tasty than the steak. To me, the other down side is the limited range of menu options (one page menu). The up side is the service. The wait staff was top notch.

Excellent for Breakfast

By sjtol |

Great breakfast buffet. Open dining area, with lots of space. Smoked salmon is a plus. An excellent place for breakfast.

Pretty good

By Warmwinds |

We were supposed to eat somewhere else but my husband wanted to watch Monday Night Football and we were staying in the hotel, so I'm almost glad I didn't read any reviews before we went. We shared three appetizers - the halibut tacos, the shredder salad and the orange chicken wings. I see below that the fish tacos were ragged on, and I did not like the fact the fish was fried (but my husband did) and the slaw was red cabbage, not arugula, and they were quite good. The shredder salad was wonderful - very healthy - you have to look at the menu because I can't remember all the ingredients, I think kale, brussels sprouts, almonds, dates, cheese, lemon dressing - really a great combination. Now the chicken wings were a conundrum for me to review...the sauce was delicious, orange mustard with blue cheese dip on the side. However, they were just the drumettes, not the whole (or divided whole) wing. So if you like the drumette part (and some were huge, almost the size of a real drumstick) you will be very happy - I actually prefer the "other" side of the wing, but I couldn't argue with the taste - the orange and blue cheese combo was delicious. And I know they were trying to class it up a bit by serving the half they "think" most people like, but not everyone does. So sometimes you can't win, but I give them A for effort. We also went for the breakfast buffet (comped because of our Hilton status) and thought everything was good quality, and liked that in addition to the buffet you could order an omelet or eggs any way. The room is large and impersonal, and the bar stools aren't the most comfortable, but it was fine. I'm glad we ended up there.

Good selection in beer

Stop by here every night of my stay for a round or two of beers. The bartenders were very friendly and had good recommendations for restaurants to try the next day.

Excellent, Fun, down-to-earth, Comfy Hotel Restaurant

By Martz and Bill |

Restaurant inside the Hilton Portland downtown, just opened back up (from Covid closure) a few weeks before we were there. Staff very accommodating and kind. Very grateful that 10-15- year-old employees came back to work despite the Pandemic, and were there to serve us! We were at same hotel for 3 nights and ate breakfast and dinner here almost daily. The staff knew who we were and talked with us, and we felt like family. Food items (omelet for breakfast, various items for dinner) were prepared the way we liked it. Thank you for your kindness, Matt and Carla and Chefs!

Too expensive for what you get

By stuva3 |

So my coworker and I were disappointed in the cost of our breakfast. We ended up ordering off the menu and after it was all said and done we had a $70 check for a breakfast that would've cost less than $20 at a Denny's. Food was decent but don't get coffee unless you want to drink a pitchers worth since it was $5 for a cup. The service was lackluster at best. Certainly have told a number of people to find something else to go to if you're wanting breakfast.

Tasty sandwich!

By naraja |

Had a tasty breakfast sandwich here, and they make great lattes as well. Service was friendly and fast.

Soup's on!

By Carolyn J |

I just stopped by for a bowl of soup so I don't have an elaborate review. We both ordered the tomato bisque. The soup was extremely tasty. Unfortunately for me, they topped it with lots of beautiful croutons. By the time I was ready to eat a crouton, it had absorbed a ton of the soup and was a sodden mess. I have an aversion to mushy foods so I did not get not get to enjoy the croutons as well as a portion of the soup.

Review - Drink Stop Only

By Trish SK |

Drinking stop on the way up to the room. To be sure, the bartenders KNOW their beer! I stopped and ordered two different taps to take upstairs. The next day, I couln't remember the name of the one I likes best. A quick description later and Christina hooked me up quickly and got me on my way. Trust your server!

Poor service

By tlagyn |

Decided to hang at the bar for a while to wind down after a day of travel. There were only 3 other people at the bar but it still took almost 10 min to get any service.

Went out on a date

By weatfood |

Let's just say with a name like Hopcity Tavern we were looking for something different... Because the Main entrance is off of 6th Street, and part of the Hilton Hotel we thought this might be a fun place to go. We wandered around inside looking for a place to be seated. Finally found where the hostess was. Was offered to seat at the bar where we watched one of the playoff games going on. But, I think this place is an afterthought that they are not serious about. Definitely needs a management change as the staff does not seem to have directions. Maybe the lack of Direction was because we were there at 11:50 a.m. on Sunday morning? We came there looking for some appetizers and drinks, before going to the Schnitzer for our show. We were given a brunch menu. Not really what I had in mind. We did order some items and a couple of drinks. About 20 minutes later some people came and sat down at the bar next to us. They asked if there was any kind of different menu? The person said that they would have to go check. So they walked away few minutes later came back with a different menu. This is probably the menu of that I would have liked to order from if I had of known that we were there a little early ..... I wanted to like this place but the fact that it was so disorganized made me uncomfortable.

Open air, but still cozy

By Rudy D |

This tavern is actually inside the Hilton Portland Downtown that I was staying at for a convention, so it was easy to get to. Lots of seats, both at the bar and at tables, open to the large atrium/lobby of the hotel on one side and to the kitchen on the other. Comfort sea/food and reasonably priced drinks.

It's A Bar In A Hotel Lobby

By Erika C |

Don't expect much. Stick to the beer and the burgers and you will be fine. The tomato soup was spciy which we enjoyed. The beer cheese soup and scotch egg were nasty. The macaroni and cheese was so dry we sent it back. This is good place to people watch or catch a game on the big screen. Stop in the grab and go store and get some Portlandia caramel popcorn. The coconut one was outrageously good.

If you ask the conciege to book you a reservation at a fun tavern, they'll book you somewhere else

By pacair |

Downtown Portland has to be one of the best eating and drinking areas on the West coast. This is one of the main reasons locals put up with the lousy weather and awful traffic. Walking distance from the Hilton, where this place is located, are dozens of good places. Many of them are real good, some are quirky and many are unique. With that in mind I can't imagine a reason to patronize a place with an apathetic staff and mediocre food. The hotel staff won't even recommend it, that should say it all. Look at the bright side, you're in Portland and you've got some cool choices. This isn't one of them

So so

By Littlej77 |

I only ate here once for lunch, so it's possible their other menu items are better. I had the Shredder salad with grilled chicken that was just "ok" - the description sounded way better than it was. Even though we went during a busy time, we were seated quickly and the server was great.

Hotel Food with a Twist

By SGTHoepful |

As the default option for breakfast for those staying in the Hilton, this is fine. The interesting twist is the market concoction that hangs off the side of the seating area - which is already diluted with wide openings to the hotel lobby and the large bar - that is sort of a part of the restaurant but not really. While it offers an interesting variety of noshes and gift ideas, most of the items there are surprisingly expensive even for a Hotel business. It's nifty, but not THAT nifty

The shortcake is amazing!!!

By Laura H |

I was at this hotel for a business conference and enjoyed a few meals onsite. The food was amazing - berry shortcake with champagne whipped cream and a hamburger that was to die for! The bun was amazing and it was cooked perfectly. When someone at our table spilled their water in the middle of breakfast the entire staff swooped in and moved us to the next table before we could blink - kudos to Matt for his ballet like precision in making the move. A late night order 5 minutes before last call was taken with a smile and delivered quickly. Seriously great service and delicious food.

Nice breakfast Oasis

By ebcnaz |

Had a real nice plate of toast worth avacado on top with poached egg on top of that. They then sauce with Tabasco. Very unusual and tasty. I rounded it out with a bowl of berries. Great!

Mediocre and Personality-less

By MarkCharney |

The Hilton has a good opportunity to create a diner with Hope City Tavern, or a tavern/bar. But it's neither. It reeks of being antiseptic. The menu is unexceptional--wings, burgers, pretzels, but it's not at all outstanding. The wings were doused with BBQ sauce, doused, and still, they were dry (dipping sauce was good/celery old). I had to send back the pretzel, which was small, dry, and, sadly, WET on the bottom. I see no reason in a city this varied and diverse to come to Hop City Tavern. It just doesn't have a reason d'etre! It needs an identity, and quick.

Breakfast

By Hawk2001 |

Breakfast was fast and delicious. They offer a buffet too but ordering from the menu is a smart choice to get exactly what you want.

Convenient but a little pricey

I ate breakfast here while we stayed at the Hotel. Staff were all great, nice atmosphere. But every meal I had was superb. You don’t have to stay at the Hilton to dine here, but you need to try it!

ABSOLUTELY GOBSMACKED!

By ursusnoire |

This is a definite "must-do" on any planned (or otherwise) trip to Portland. I really pride myself on my own culinary skills, and like most home chefs, always consider as to whether I could have made the same meal and been more satisfied. Hop City exceeded my culinary vision and provided for a titillating and tantalizing taste bud experience that was well beyond anything that I had ever imagined or envisioned. We had the stone cut oat risotto and steelhead salmon (not real sure of the variety of salmon since it was the ingénue of this production). The risotto was earthy and complimented with hearty mushrooms which deepened the flavor. The Dungeness crab cake was choked full of lump crab, succulent and bold in flavor. Kudos to the kitchen staff! AWESOME MEAL!

Just So-So

By 03Val48 |

We were looking for a change of pace for dinner before a concert, so we hopped in here. It has been recently remodeled, but it still seems barren, and bright and loud, not very warm and friendly. The staff, however, did their best and were very friendly. And the food was just so-so, nothing special, so if you're looking around Portland, look around.....

Convenient Location at Downtown Portland Hilton

By Nancy D |

Large clean space with lots of seating and a large selection of eats and conveniences to take away. I found the staff really friendly and helpful. Prices are similar to any other designer coffee shop. I was there three times this week because it was so convenient to a conference I attended. The first day I had the apple turnover which, really wasn’t very good. The next days I was quite pleased with my Greek yogurt parfait discovery. These were excellent.

Dungeness Crab Pot Pie is to Die For

By RCRPP |

I enjoyed the Dungeness crab pot pie so much, that I ordered it for dinner the second night. Wait staff were friendly and fast.

Great beer, great service, okay food.

By Tony114 |

I visited this restaurant recently while on a business trip to Portland. I was seated right away and the server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered a flight of 5 beers and I allowed the server to pick out five of Portland’s best. The five samples were all excellent and the portions were large for a price of $15. I had the quinoa black bean burger and garlic Parmesan fries for my meal. This might seem like a small thing, but the plate was very tiny (see the picture). When I tried to pick up the burger, half the fries fell off the plate. Things like this just annoyed me! The burger was good, but I ended up not eating most of the bread, which was a tad dry. The fries smelled delicious, but I have had Parmesan fries at many places, and these were merely okay. Overall, a nice place for a casual bit and I would go back again especially if I was staying at the Hilton Downtown (where this hotel is located)—it was affordable and the service was very good.

The absolute BEST

By lchelsea |

We had breakfast here and their buffet is the BEST I have ever had. It had more unique choices than I could ever think of for a buffet (bacon maplebars). We will definitely go out of our way to stop here again. The service was top notch...I was told some servers have worked at this Hilton Hotel for 30 plus years! Food was delish!!

Ate here for dinner 2 nights and it was amazing food. The sweet potato fries are probably the best ones I've ever eaten. The crispy brussel sprouts are also a great option! Great service too.

Worse Fish Tacos EVER

By Oregon Traveler |

Stay away. Overpriced wine was ok but Fish Taco was a deep fried mess. Overcooked (or reheated) chopped up into little dry pieces. No slaw. Ok sauce. SLAW = arugula lettuce (since when?). Yuck! To their credit they did take it off the bill. Waiter was pissed off acting and helped a man who had arrived at the same time taking his drink and food order before even bothering with me. Worse service.

An accidental breakfast that could lead to an addiction.

By baileygracerose |

My breakfast at Hop City Tavern came about by chance after a run-in with my hotel room door. While displaced, I was offered breakfast in the restaurant. I think I owe that door a thank-you card. This was a great breakfast experience and that it was complimentary would not change my experience. I received a very upbeat greeting from a young woman - her named appeared Hawaiian - who let me choose my seat and explained a little about the menu. She was also happy to explain about the space which I had remembered being a different restaurant. Her enthusiasm was very welcome. My server came to take my order - and thank goodness - was running on all cylinders because I was in need of adult supervision. The menu tempts both your healthy side and the "go on, you're on vacation" side. While I was attempting to deconstruct the Dungeness Crab Cakes Benedict - she helped me arrive at a solution for both sides. Eggs scrambled with crab, hold the hollandaise - and a nice serving of delicious berries. That is not to say I would not go back in the heartbeat to order the Nutella Stuffed French Toast, the Buttermilk Pancakes with blueberries, or even the Chicken and Waffles (I don't know but I feel like I should try it). The food was delicious and the service was great. Getting locked out of my room was a happy accident except that now I need to go back for that Nutella french toast.

Didn't live up to reviews

By tykotoms |

Table of 6 - dinner round up Deep fried pickles and salami flatbread were nice. Decent happy hour prices and a good selection of beers Mac and cheese. Very good lots of flavor Meat loaf sandwich good Fish and chips. Heavy on the breading and got soggy. Nice fish though. Seafood flatbread. Frozen crab, very spongy and watery. Not good Clams and muscles. Heavy spice and garlic. Seafood not properly cleaned. Grit and shells on several bites. Tomato sauce base tasted like a jar spaghetti sauce. Needed more white wine. not good. Pretzel burger. Toughest hamburger we have ever had. And it's ground beef. Sweet potato fries average. Disappointed with average service and atmosphere. Not planning to go back except for beers and light appetizers.

Great breakfast buffet, cook to order meals and great staff. So convenient to have a nice restaurant in the bottom of the hotel

Tasty food!

By Carol B |

The food here was delicious and fairly priced, and the beer was glacially cold. When I was in a rush one day at lunch, my server got my order in lickety-split and cashed me out when she delivered it, so I never missed a minute of my seminar. I actually ate here three times, and the selection of pre-made to-go items included anything you could want for a breakfast or snack on the run.

Wait staff have this cowboy thing going with jeans and plaid. Salty bar food, chicken wings and such.

Bar review only

By Carl R |

This is the bar located in the Hilton lobby. We had 2 martinis (23.00) the bartender was not very attentive and spent most of the time chatting up one customer at the other end of the bar. We had to ask for water. Then he brought one for the two of us and he had had to be asked again for a second water. Not classy. We didn't try the food as we didn't like the service. We are locals but have attended many conferences there. There are better and more fun places one block in every direction.

Not Your Ordinary Hotel Coffee Shop--In Fact, Not a Coffee Shop at All!

By TrepidTraveler1 |

I stayed at the Hilton Portland, to which this restaurant served as coffee shop/restaurant. I was happily surprised at its non-coffee-shop aspects. For one, there was a bar, a breakfast bar and an attractive seating area. The menu had something to appeal to anyone--carnivore (Scotch eggs!), chicken chomper, seafood fanatic (especially the crab omelet), and vegetarian (me). I didn't notice any vegan choices, but I'm willing to bet that some exist. They serve Stumptown coffee--yay--all you can drink, and I think they had to grind a new bag of beans for my capacity. I had a provlone/veggie omelet that was delicous for one breakfast and a bowl of ancient grains oatmeal for another--THAT was exquisite, and they subbed honey for the maple syrup at my request. When I hopped in from the airport, I wanted lunch, but nothing heavy. Happily, the restaurant had a grab-and-go refrigerated compartment with choices like a quinoa and bean salad instead of soggy sandwiches. Delicious. The guy who checked me out was chatty and intelligent.

Very impressed for a hotel restaurant

By Wilbits |

We had brunch while staying at the Hilton on a visit from Seattle. Knowing Portland's fantastic food scene, we had low expectations - this being a chain hotel restaurant. However, the menu and the ingredients were surprisingly creative and high quality, reflecting the PNW vibe. The atmosphere is modern and very pleasant. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here if you're too lazy to go out first thing in the morning or late at night.

Leisa is OUTSTANDING

By Kevin R |

Just had amazing food and drinks served by Leisa! Let me tell you as a former chef and a senior executive now, she's the best server we've ever had and we travel all over world! Her personality, attention to detail and dedication to her job is unmatchable! I would employ her in a minute!

Good place to bring the kids

By Glamerousgran |

We were at a Symphony matinee and afterwards wanted to find a place to take the kids for dinner. They are not adventurous eaters so despite Portland being the land of such great food, this day we were looking for simple kid friendly. They had a kids menu. The portion sizes for the kids was very generous. We were able to have some good food and everyone was happy. This place is located inside the hotel. It is diagonally opposite the Schnitzer so very handy. A little hard to find once inside the hotel but well worth it. We are glad we found this. Place. Oh and the service was great.

Food, drinks etc

Loved the flatbread, from bartender to servers, excellent customer service. Wish the market was opened a little bit longer, would have loved to have some potato chips

Great location for breakfast

Ate breakfast here while staying at the Hilton. Friendly waiters and hostess. Buffet offers a nice selection, which includes a three egg omelet with anything (or everything) added. Great value.

Great service

By Nicole J |

The service was awesome. The food was alright. Had a burger which was undercooked. Had bagel and lox which was only so so. How hard is it to do bagel and lox? Found it to be a bit pricey, even for a hotel.

Friendly, attentive, helpful staff and good quality food.

By Australian57 |

Our group had many dinners here and we all agreed that one of the best aspects of this tavern is the friendly attentiveness of the wait staff. In particular, Christina and Terrell were outstanding ambassadors for the Hilton brand of service. They had great knowledge of the menu and could describe the favorite items. Christina has a wonderfully friendly manner and really made our Australian group feel very much ' at home' Terrell never lets your water glass get too low and he checks that everything is ok. They were both full of tips on the sights of Portland. The food is generous in portions and has a " home made" quality which is very appealing. They even divide the portion so you can share. The Tavern has a vibrant atmosphere that means you can enjoy a drink at the bar or a dinner and not have to venture out from the hotel. Please make certain that you commend your staff for great service as they definitely deserve the accolades.

Had a nice lunch here

By KweqSmanit |

I had a nice lunch here. Hop City is inside the Hilton and is a relaxing well lit tasty lunch. Try the sweet potato fries with the fish and chips, this was very tasty. Service was friendly and with a smile. Not a huge menu to choose from but portions were decently large and well made. A full bar with televisions to watch the game is next to HopCity. The restrooms are around the corner not inside HopCity itself.

Stumptown Coffee is hidden inside!

By fritztc |

While visiting Portland and staying at the Hilton Executive Tower, you can throw a stone and hit three Starbucks; I wanted something less predictable. I went to TripAdvisor and learned that Stumptown Coffee Roasters was the place to go, but it was a healthy walk away. I asked the concierge for an alternative and he pointed out Hop City across the street which has a Stumptown Coffee outlet inside. I can only speak to the cappuccino which was perfect...just the right amount of foam and great flavor. I was going to try an omelet here, but they had silly big city pricing $16...excuse me?

Simply awesome!

Great food! Great portions and Great Staff! (Way to go Leisa!!) Seriously... you should try it! Crab pot pie was amazing.... Awesome appetizers. Delectable deserts. What are you waiting for ?

Twice complained about weak coffee to no avail

By Richard B |

My first cup was good, topped off with weak making it mild, replaced with brown, hot water passed off as coffee. Left without drinking it after giving them two chances to correct it.

Average restaurant

By ajp1216 |

We ate here once. While I loved the look of the place and the convenience for hotel guests, the food was just okay. We ordered a pizza with shrimp and crab. It was pretty greasy. We each ordered one, when we could have shared because it was so large. We also ordered a large pretzel with a couple of dipping options as an appetizer. It was very, very good. Waiter was friendly, but hard to find when we wanted to pay for our meal.

Tasty and friendly

Tasty and friendly service - great for families - convenient - room service provided as well. Recommend.

Great bar area but the food was not great

We had hamburgers. They were super dry...The sweet potatoes were good. We also ordered breakfast from the coffee shop, just egg sandwiches. These were dry as well...Not impressed with the food.

Best Server in the Northwest

By Megan G |

We have been on vacation from the East coast for 8 days now so we’ve eaten out quite a bit and the service we’ve gotten throughout our entire trip was horrible. Tigisti (I hope I’m spelling that right) was the first server we’ve had that went above and beyond. Very sweet, very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food was okay, but I’ll be coming back just for the service!! I wish more hospitality workers in this area would demonstrate this kind of customer service...
