Everything we had was really good and for the location not overpriced. We ate from both sides of the menu and everything was pretty tasty.

A delicious sit-down meal for ten bucks on Michigan Avenue across from Millennium Park. Popped in at 4:00 on a Sunday and got seated right away. Had the Spicy Basil Chicken, and it was delicious. Very attentive and friendly service.

We ate here on break from the Art Institute. The lunch was really tasty. We all had bento boxes, and my husband and I got an extra sushi roll. My kids enjoyed it, and the restaurant split a bento box for them. Sushi was fresh, teriyaki was great, and the miso soup was the best I had in a while. Service was good for a busy lunch time, and the value was OK for Michigan Avenue and the amount of food. My only negative was that the lock on the bathroom door was broken, and the bathroom could have been better maintained.

Dragon roll was fantastic. California roll was normal - nothing special. Green tea was super. I was looking for somewhere with sushi close to the Palmer House and this was the most convenient location.

This is a favorite restaurant of my son and grandkids. The service was okay, and the food tasty and well presented. This is a small family chain of restaurants with a modern edge to asian food which is very competitive in Chicago. Will be back next visit to Chicago.

A recent trip for takeout at Hot Woks Cool Sushi was good for takeout. Not great but good! I had Udon with tempura shrimp. The shrimp was good but the udon noodles fell short. Would not recommend this dish. The sushi was fine and ample. Will try again with a different menu item.

We went here for lunch and the sushi was average. To start, I got the seaweed salad, which was really good and fresh. My wife got the spicy tuna roll while I got the salmon avocado roll.

After a walk in Grant Park, we visited this place, thinking it was a low-quality fast-food joint. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. For starters, their menu has so many items that we were overwhelmed and took us some time to decide on what to have. We opted for a sushi combination plate (sushi gold) and a noodle dish (pad see ewe) but also had some crab Rangoon and gyoza. we washed it down with a Japanese Old Fashioned. The food was fresh and, as others have mentioned, service was quite efficient and fast. A place worth returning to so that i can explore more of its broad menu.

Lunch time was busy at Hot woks cool sushi but service was still attent however after having Nice miso soup, I ordered 3 lol menu and once I got my order the most rolls were super tiny comparing to others- it felt like they are trying to save on ingredients , which made me leaving the place with doubts if I ever want to come back.

Stumbled into this place while touring with my wife. We like sushi; but this place was on point while saving $$$ for ur pocket. The black dragon was awsome, dont forget the dumplings and the lime mascarpone lemon cake to close smoothly. Clean, great service decent for the price.

We found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and checked the closing time, so we went there but the waiters told us that the restaurant would close earlier! So we had to eat in 20 minutes our sushi, that was normal, nothing special.

Went here on date night. Nice decor, friendly people. Dragon roll was incredible. All the sushi was good quality and fresh. Friendly service. Nice place, highly recommend.

Nice reasonably priced Asian restaurant across from Millenium Park. We had Japanese. Sushi was very good -- as was the yakisoba.

Bento box offered some value for the meal. About $13-15 for each box. Efficient service and good atmosphere.

Good spot for sushi and other Asian food. The place is small but has a good variety of food items. It can get really busy during pick times.

We stopped in for an afternoon snack and really enjoyed our meal. My wife doesn't always like sushi but she loved Hot Woks Cool Sushi. Good service, great food and that's what it's all about.

Good food! Party of 5. We are there for lunch. A bit noisy, but is was the lunch hour and everyone was talking on top of each other. Far prices, the servers were great. The kitchen a bit slow, but again lunch rush hour and all. Over all we'd stop by there again.

We wanted some snack and stopped by at this restaurant in the afternoon. We ordered an avocado roll, a California roll, and Ocean Trio Poke. They were all so tasty and so affordable ($3.50, $3.895, and $12.95, respectively). All the ingredients were fresh and nice. Ocean Trip Poke had tuna, salmon, and white tuna along with vegges and mango pieces. The staff were very friendly, the service very fast, and the food was great!! You can never beat this kind of price for great food on Michigan Avenue!

Great restaurant on Mich Avenue for Thai and Asian cuisine! Quick service and fun atmosphere. I love the Tuna Avocado Salad, Pad Thai and Tom Kha soup. Sushi is also really good. Get the Silver Lunch Plate.

They have a good selection to chose from and the sushi is done well and my go to of choice here. My husband loves their general Gao’s as his dish of choice

I was starving and looking for a place near the Art Institute that didn’t have a long line, so I peeled inside and saw that it was busy, but not packed, the menu looked good, so what the heck? Well, the service was quick and very friendly and the Panang Noodle Curry withChicken was probably the best I’ve ever had. I was sorry I had not asked to have the spiciness kicked up a notch or two. Great little place!

First time. Tried the silver sushi: tuna, salmon, yellow tail, shrimp, spicy salmon roll (8 pcs), along with escolar (white tuna), ikura (salmon roe), tomago (sweet omelette), & green tea. The sushi was standard. The escolar was interesting; soft and buttery. Not sure if it's real escolar, so let's hope I don't have the diarrhea that people talk about! The tomago was dry. The spicy salmon roll was nice, but they drizzled too much spicy mayo on top. Overall, for a sushi enthusiast, it was average. It is a nice place to grab Asian food since they offer Thai, Chinese, & Japanese. Service was nice. Waiter was attentive. Total bill was $29.55. I would still prefer to trek up to Matsuya for more traditional sushi.

Perfect location, right across from Millennium Park! Great service! Good was fantastic!! Had the Tom Yum, Spicy Basil and four different sushi order, all amazing!! Sushi was super fresh!! We were so thrilled to have found this place! Love the selection of Thai and sushi combined! Would definitely go back if/when in Chitown again!!!

The servers are friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food is well prepared and tastes good. There is Japanese, Chinese and Thai food available and everything I have hgad there is outstanding. I particularly like their Tom Yum Soup

The place is nicely located near millennium park. The staff were great and service was fast. The food was delicious, tasty and adequate servings. The pad Thai and bento box was great. The price is for the food is worth it. And the variety of the menu is good. A good place for both Thai and Japanese cuisine.

We wanted to have a sushi picnic in Millenium Park and take our granddaughter to mini golf at the Daley playground. We ordered several maki rolls and some tempura from this place on Michigan avenue. It came beautifully packaged for take -out in a big bag with strong handles and chopsticks, forks and napkins were provided. Shrimp/Veg tempura never travels well but it was okay. The rolls -- we got salmon, shrimp tempura and asparagus tempura rolls -- were neatly packaged with their sauce containers and condiments and were very tasty. This would be a great place to get food for Pritzger summer concerts where people picnic on the grass and listen to classical music. And it is right across the street from the park and concert areas.

Was recommended this spot by my hairstylist and it turned out to be a fantastic find! They have your typical sushi menu and other Asian dishes along with some very unique choices on the menu! I definitely suggest going out of the box and trying one of their black rice sushi rolls! Great prices, beautifully plated, and very fresh!

My daughter and I stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant on our way back from our walk around the south loop. Food was delicious and presented beautifully. The cucumber salad was so yummy!

I go to this restaurant because it is one of the only ones in the area that has table services, takes reservations, and has reasonable prices. There are several restos nearby that have table service and take resv, but they are more expensive than I typically want to pay for lunch with friends. Many other affordable options nearby that do not offer table service and therefore do not take resv -- like Panera and Pret a Manger. But you can't be guaranteed of getting a seat during lunch time. Hot Woks is the best option.

Right across from the Art Institute. Went here for lunch on a Saturday. Great service and great food at very reasonable prices for downtown. I had a vegetarian variation of a California roll called a Mega Vega roll that was very hearty and filling. Will definitely be going back.

I regularly order take out here from lunch. It is very good. I typically order the Bento Box with Teriyaki Chicken. My only complaint is that I cannot order ONLY Teriyaki Chicken! The rest of the Bento Box is good..but..a lot of food. Their sushi is also good. I haven't had it at this location - but if the food is comparable at different locations, then its worth it. This place is also usually packed at lunch. That's always a good sign.

WE came back here after a wonderful visit in 2019. COVID kept us from Chicago, but we managed to come back. Sushi was fresh and amazing. Lots of cleaning going on, tables separated. We came for lunch, loved it and came back the next day. Really good sushi. Surely, give it a try!

It was alright. Nori was tough making sushi rolls hard to chew and the tempura was lacking any kind of flavor. If you are cold walking around and need a friendly place to sit down, grab a roll and some tea then it’s fine.

Ate dinner here on a Sunday night. About a 10-minute walk from the Palmer House Hilton, which, surprisingly, didn’t even recommend it as one of the better local sushi restaurants. Compared to Ryo Sushi where we ate the next day for lunch, it was head and shoulders superior. My daughter had a couple of their signature rolls while I enjoyed a Sushi Gold platter. The meals were preceded by excellent miso soup and the ‘house’ hot sake which warmed me up inside. Afterwards, we ordered a few extra pieces of tuna and yellow tail sashimi to round off the meal. The fish at Hot Woks seemed unusually moist and fresh. I wasn’t expecting such quality. Meanwhile, there was energy in the restaurant and plenty of servers to go around and keep things flowing smoothly. We moved our seats from a somber table against the wall to one directly underneath a spotlight, which allowed us to see our good in all its glory. We paid about $88 before tip which isn’t dirt cheap, but given the quality and typical sushi prices, I wasn’t overly floored. Great marks for Hot Woks by Cherry Wonderdog!

Our group was spending one long day sight-seeing in Chicago and came across Hot Woks Cool Sushi on our walk back to our hotel. The restaurant is small but has a very relaxing and warm atmosphere, The sushi - I had the spicy tuna - was wonderful and the soup bowl was plentiful - I had and loved but could not finish the vegetable tofu soup. My friends were also very satisfied and impressed with their diners. Would definitely recommend and will visit again when in Chicago. Hot Woks Cool Sushi's location being on Michigan Avenue just across from the Chicago Art Institute makes the visit even more rewarding - even at night :)

I was visiting the Art institute and wanted something quick and Asian and here it is opp the art institute. It got a good mix of Japanese, thai, Vietnamese and Indo food in the menu. Will not grade the food really high coz been from Asia the food was not that authentic. But it was good

This quaint spot is so great! I have not dined in but rather got to-go sushi and ate it at Millennium Park. The rooms were very well made and had awesome flavor. It was hard to decide which rolls to get since so many of the specialty rolls were good. This place doesn't cheap out with your basic rolls either.

We had planned to eat at another nearby restaurant, but it turned out they were closed on Sundays. We hiked the 2+ blocks here and were seated immediately. The restaurant fronts on Michigan Ave., roughly across from Millennium Park / Art Institute. I ordered the Massaman curry, which was fine (I finished it). I don't recall what my wife ordered, but she finished her dish also. My daughter had been craving Ramen and opted for a Panang noodle dish here. She was underwhelmed, but it may partly have been disappointment that the other place was closed. It is also close to the subway (Monroe on the Red Line, IIRC). If I were alone and in the area, I would consider a return visit.

I had nice quick lunch at Hot Woks Cool Sushi located next to the Art Institute of Chicago. The chicken teriyaki bento box was tasty and was served quickly. Note that the Art Institute of Chicago has not opened its cafeteria yet, so this restaurant is a good nearby choice.

This was just alright sushi - nothing amazing. There are better places to find sushi in Chicago. The one roll we had, that was intriguing and really unique, was the Down Under - it had mole sauce on it. Other than that, the rest of the food was pretty pedestrian. Our waiter was not good, he brought one of our beers and then never brought the second (beers in bottles, not tap or anything special). Our appetizer came and still no beer for the others in the party. We had to ask to get it. We had to ask for a glass, for water, the people next to us had to ask for dinner plates. Seemed that the diners were an inconvenience to the wait staff. For being right on Michigan Ave I also would have expected more from this place. They even had the boxes of their frozen, bought in bulk, desserts stacked on the bar where everyone could see.

Went here for lunch on a weekday. Fair number of people eating in it, but still seats available, both inside and out. Despite their name, they have non-sushi food too, which is good for people like me. The meal I got, really liked the miso soup. The udon noodles and Tempura were just OK though. The service was OK, wasn't particularly friendly, and took a little while for the food to arrive.

Literally stumbled upon this place after visiting the Arts Museum. It was perfect. Awesome sushi and appetizers. reasonably priced wine. It was just what the dr. had ordered after a long day of museum walking. We were pleasantly surprised.

This restaurant has a great location across Michigan Ave from the park and the Art Institute. A small number of tables outside, window seating inside, a bar area, and a large dining area in back with a sushi bar. We tried soup (very good), sushi (very good), and a poke bowl (excellent). Service was very fast and pleasant. Not inexpensive, but a nice place for a healthy meal.

Fairly priced food in a perfect location for the Millennium Park, the Symphony, or The Art Institute. Dishes are tasty and served quickly by friendly waitstaff.

Food is nice but portions are too large... a bento box does not need half a kilo of tempura! Service is nice, friendly and fast.

Very good sushi in the loop area. Try the untraditional egg rolls which were delicious. They have noodle options and plenty of rolls to choose from. A very good option when in the grant park area.

Very nice place, good sushi quality, nice service and wonderful ingredients.extremely suggested! Third time in three years and nothing is changed. Complete choice of beers and drinks.I’m so happy!

The sushi was good. The prices were good. The options were basic, though were good. The service was fast

Gluten free options, good sushi. Several different options to choose from. Casual place that you do not feel rushed to finish. Glad we went there. I will be back!

The dishes at Hot Woks Cool Sushi are not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The vibrant colors and intricate designs of the sushi rolls are a feast for the eyes. The wok-fried dishes are bursting with bold flavors that linger on the palate.

Ate here for lunch. Was recommended by a local. The menu has great variety. The sushi was delicious but a little expensive. Service was good too. The location is ideal if you're craving sushi and going to be exploring downtown Chicago for the day.

Absolutely great experience with the best sushis in town and also quite cheap. Our first choice ... great great and also a very nice and beautiful decorated restaurant.

This is a nice place. it was really packed when we got in but they managed to get us a table. We had the sushi and what impressed me was the sushi my friend ordered, it was 'mega vega' or something like that. It was so tasty and you would not believe it was vegan. The service was good, friendly and the bill was pretty decent too.

Great miso soup. Great sushi. I have eaten here on three separate visits to Chicago--it's my go-to after a long day sight-seeing. Excellent food and efficiently, friendly staff.

I get this for lunch from time to time, it's good! A little over priced for lunch in my opinion but the service is good and the sushi is good.

I would highly recommend this restaurant, from the minute I walked in, the staff was very friendly and accommodating , the food was excellent and very affordable

Great Service! Sushi was fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly.Nice place to sit and people watch as well.

Lots of good food options! Very nice service, chill atmosphere. Delicious bento box and Rama (peanut sauce over chicken and broccoli). Typical miso soup and eggs rolls. Spider roll was a bit bland. Cold sake was wonderful to sip on all meal!

Great service. I ordered Pad Thai for dinner. The noodles tasted so-so. But the reason for a one-star review is that the noodles were loaded with MSG. After dinner, I spent the whole night drinking a lot of water.

We walked on Michigan Ave, spotted this smaller restaurant and went in. After browsing menu we ordered as starter - entree Tofu steak (12.95 dollars) and Mandarin orange chicken (13.95 dollars). As main we both ordered Ramen Tonkatsu (15.25 dollars ). After giving the order to the waiter he asked if we want all three dishes. We confirmed our order and were surprised about the amount of food for the starters. But we were not happy when the Ramen arrived within a few minutes later when we didn't finish out starter. When we paid our bill 64.12 dollars incl tax I mentioned to the waiter that we were unable to eat much from Ramen as the starter portion were big. To our surprise the waiter said that all meals we ordered were main meals. Later we checked on internet if the restaurant doesn't misinform customers about entree. And we were stunned that in Amerika entree means main meal. So be careful when you will see similar menu. We loved the meals, they were very tasty and big portion.

Stopped in for lunch after a busy to the Navy Pier and Millennial Park. Place was packed! Service was great and the food was even better. My daughter said the crab rangoons were the best ever. Great prices too.

They had a diverse menu and both my self and my husband were happy with our food. My sushi was good and reasonably priced for what I got. My husband had the Chardonnay chicken and it was inexpensive and good though the portion was on the small side.

We had delicious starters. The main dishes are also good. Pad Thai not the best ever eaten but very decent. Great service.

I ordered the mega vega with a side of peanut sauce (along with 2 other rolls) to go. It was amazing, it was fast only 15 minutes wait. They gave me utensils and napkins without asking. Great service and food! Would defiantly recommend to a friend!

Food was delicious, fresh fish, tasty miso soup, great salads. We stopped for a quick lunch and and do not regret our choice. Convenient location, fast service .

Had a lovely dinner date with my husband on my very first night in Chicago! This place is a win - perfectly warmed sake, sashimi, maki rolls and edamame. Many options to choose from and the atmosphere is intimate and but well attended. They have a great blend of Japanese and Chinese/Thai dishes, and we enjoyed people watching as we dined.

I was with the family on vacation and we stopped in to Hot Woks for lunch. The service was excellent and all the food we ordered was delicious!

This is become my new fav / must eat restaurant every time I'm in Chicago. The location is great and the food is very good. I always get an order of sushi , soup and fried rice. Thai iced tea is simply superb. I highly recommend this to tourists to stop here if you like sushi.

Food was fine, service- not so much. Not sure why I should tip some guy 20 or 30% who points me to a table and I tell him my order and then I never see him again. I have to beg for my bill and then click some sketchy QR code, and enter my credit card details into some sketchy unknown site that refuses to take payment resulting in my having to do my own tech support in order to pay my bill. Yeah, if you make me work that hard I will give you a tiny tip. If you want a tip, how about you actually do something?

The staff was very friendly to us and accommodated our children 1.5yo and 4yo. The food was pretty good, but the staff was great! Great location across from Millennium Park. We've eaten there in prior visits to Chicago.

Very tasty curry dish. Everyone at our table liked their meal. Wait staff was attentive, but not hovering. Nice meal before Hamilton.

I was lucky i had a sushi enthusiast with me as i am not that familiar with sushi. It was authentic, tasty and very beautiful.

I ordered miso soup, crab rangoons, and a California roll. The miso soup was good, but let's be honest that really can't be messed up. The crab rangoons were different and not to my taste. They were more like a crab salad mix instead of creamy texture but that's just my preference. The California roll was average. It was cut up cucumber, cut up fake crab meat, and avocado. It wasn't chilled either. The prices are so reasonable that the fake crab makes sense which is why I gave it an average rating. The staff was amazing and very attentive!

Absolutely delicious Sushi! I come whenever I am in the Loop. Quick service and beautifully prepared. Easy walk in service.

Gyozas were tasty and the poke bowls outstanding. Worth going back to Chicago just for those dishes. Great, quick service on the patio too.

We have stopped here for lunch or dinner on every trip we have taken to Chicago for the past 12 years. Always great food with great service. Right on Michigan Ave near the Art Institute and Millennial Park.

Good sushi restaurant in front of the millennium park, in the center of the city. Nigiri were delicious!

I wanted sushi and asked someone where to get it. This place was close by so they recommended it. After eating I was happy that I went. The sushi was great, they also had a large selection. Also had the miso soup, which was delicious.

If you love Asian cuisine you will not be disappointed. The place is cosy and the food is delicious. The cashew chicken was great, not spicy though.

Ducked in here for a quick bite while visiting Millennium Park. Not only is their Sushi good but it is very reasonably priced. I'll be back.

I can just remember the name of the firecracker rolls which were great but also the two other rolls were outstanding. USD 45 isn't cheap for 3 rolls but the location is great and the sushi is as well.

First off, I don’t do sushi. My friends love sushi so I decided to go. I got the fried rice with vegetables and I believe it had pineapple as well. Very good. Friends enjoyed their sushi and said it was really good. Service was a little lacking. But if you’re hungry, not a bad place.

Walking around town and couldn't resist stopping in for some miso to warm up, and a taste of EEL. This is a nice quiet place to get a bite to eat near the lake. The staff is business like, so it has the feel of a traditional sushi bar. Would be a good place for a business luncheon.

Delicious, the service was great and the food wonderful! Great atmosphere and the fish mmmmmmmm so tender and tasty!!!

This place is quick for lunch and has great prices for the sushi. $5 rolls are the normal size and decent quality and the service is quick and friendly. Great for business lunches and there's a whole hot wok menu for people who don't like sushi so everyone can find something they like.

Quick service, clean place, delicious food. I only didn’t like the toilets. They are at the far back and you don’t feel comfortable going there.

It was really easy to get a table on a Saturday night, which was surprising. There was a variety of different kinds of Asian cuisine on the menu. We ordered a sushi roll (spicy crunchy salmon), which was very tasty. While it was ordered as an appetizer, it came out with our entrees. I ordered a cashew chicken (Thai) and it was very good, but not as spicy as I would have liked. They serve their soda from a can instead of from a soda fountain, so if you prefer your soda from a fountain you might want to order something else to drink. The service was quick and responsive.

We went to this place several times,as it is situated near some of Chicago's main attractions, such as the Art Institute (museum) and the Millenium Park. The menu offers a variety of East Asian food at affordable prices, the atmosphere is quiet, and the service friendly.

We were just walking down Michigan Avenue enjoying street musicians and a general festive summer atmosphere and popped into Hot Woks Cool Sushi. The menu includes lots of choices and also descriptions of the art on the walls with information about the artist and their art. We both really enjoyed our choices: Tempura udan and Rama chicken. Delicious and lots. Very pleasant experience.

I ordered from here via Uber Eats after a long day of exploring the town on foot. The service was quick, and the sushi arrive fresh. I had the Gyoza (decent portion, amazing flavor), the Akira Roll (huge roll, incredible flavors, and great heat level), the Bitcoin Roll (soo much going on with this one, but it was awesome), the Philly Makimono (cream cheese and smoked salmon, you can’t go wrong), the miso soup, and a side of the salmon roe. Everything was touch notch, and crazy fresh even with delivery times. If you like sushi, this is definitely worth a visit.

Not many good places to eat in the area besides this go-to spot! Great of a quick sushi bite or more of a sit-down meal.

Really good sushi! Best miso soup I’ve had in a long time. Everything came out super quick and tasted great. Service was excellent! I had the pineapple shandy, which was really tasty!

Early dinner. Very attractive setting. The service was fast and polite. We wanted to take out time ordering because we were unfamiliar with this restaurant menu and a little new at sushi. The wait staff checked back several times but not over bearing. Their English was pretty good which at times could be difficult when asking questions. We received a plate is Crab Rangoon's which we did not order. Thinking it was complimentary, we ate them. Thinking it was like a bread basket might be offered at other restaurants. It was, by the way, the best I've ever had in my life. Lots of creamy crab filling. I don't think these were the previously frozen kind. The meal came and the sushi was incredibly fresh. My friend got a noodle dish that had just the right amount of jalapeño which I hadn't seen in Asian cooking. It was flavorful and not just hot. We shared a caraf if warm Saki which stayed warm. The caraf looks small but it seemed to hold a lot! We told the wait staff that we hasn't ordered the Rangoon but to put it on our bill. They politely said, no, they were on the house. Oh, the chop sticks were not wooden. A lovely ceramic. Was going to buy some but decided the meal was a great enough memory.

We stopped in for a late luck after visiting the Art Institute museum. Both got the lunch special of 3 rolls for 15.50. Each roll had 8 pieces! Lot of food for the price. Several typical roll options - philly, Cali, spicy tuna, Alaska, smoked salmon, etc... Service wa only so so, but food was good, served quickly, and well priced.

Walking Michigan Ave. Looking for place for dinner. Many choices but most quite pricey. This menu was appealing (Asian, Thai, Sushi), prices moderate, but we were wary because it is a chain. Place was full and we had about a 20 minute wait. Tables are close together but noise level is acceptable. Pleasantly surprised with the flavorable, ample servings. Service is quick and staff is pleasant. All members of the group enjoyed their choices. I had pad Thai and found it subtle in flavor. Definitely would return.

I ordered a sushi sampler plate, asking for a substitution to make it gluten-free. The chef obliged, replacing the unagi by shrimp. I was given a bottle of gluten-free soy sauce. My sushi was fresh and delicious, and not too large. My husband had the panang curry, and it was very flavorful. Good, safe place for Celiacs.

Great sushi on Michigan Ave. Great spot to eat and walk to shopping on Rush St on next block. Had some appetizers and some different rolls and they were all excellent.

This was recommended by two of the ladies at Art Institute ticket counter. We were looking for something quick and easy that wouldn't break the bank and this was perfect. Food was good and service was excellent. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because two of our dishes (pad thai and panang) had very little chicken in them in proportion to the noodles. Other than that, the meal was excellent and tasty, served very quickly, and reasonably priced, especially for downtown Chicago.

The simple interior restaurant is located at Millenium Park. We sat at the window at the high table and ordered “Alaskan Maki” with salmon/avocado, “Spider Maki” with soft shell crab/tuna white and “Akira” with tuna red-white. The Sapporo beer costs 6.50 US. The sushi had good taste – the service was friendly.

Walked in for lunch after Art museum. Very busy place but good service from waiters. Fun rolls, noodle bowls. Had "Sushi Donuts" that are FABULOUS! Try it.

Nice veggie noodle soup (needed a little soy sauce). Close to the park but no wait even on a busy Memorial Day weekend. Tofu steak sounded intriguing. Next time!

Yummy! Fresh tasting fish and friendly service. A diverse menu with different options for everyone. Cool, clean atmosphere. Close to millennium park attractions too.

We were there at 4 PM on Saturday and it was quite busy. Service was good (although the sushi was served without soy sauce, which resulted in many apologies). The sushi combination was excellent, and my wife had the Panang curry which she rated highly.

Friendly staff, delish food. Everything we ordered was super tasty. Good value for your money. Big bento boxes. They were closing outside but allowed us to seat inside. Love their food. Yummylicious.

Loved the lunch menu — the salmon/avocado roll was excellent and the Nigiri was generously cut. Tables are close. Couldn’t have a conversation due to the din. Go off hours.

We ordered take out and it was not only fast but the sushi looked so beautiful in the box. They divided items with cucumbers, it looked amazing and tasted great. One of the only places that give you enough soy sauce for dipping on to-go orders. Staff was very friendly and polite. There are beautiful lights on a wall sculpture and the bar shelves that change colors very subtlety. It was memzmerizing while we waited on our order.

My mother and I have been here many times as a predestination before going to the art museum. I cannot recommend more the Akira Roll as it is one of the best combination rolls I have ever had.

The food was soooo good!! Fresh. We have the poki bowls and sushi donuts!!! Yes they look just like donuts!! Fast service. Our sever was very nice and always asking if there was anything else. I highly recommend this place!!!

The staff want you in and out though ... you have barely taken your coat off and they are ready to take your order! Don't modify anything they get confused. Classify as cheap and cheerful for a quick bite!

We were looking for a sushi place on a late Saturday evening and came across Hot Woks. The Michigan Ave location is right across from Crown Fountain (the huge TV screens with faces that spray water). We were seated right away. The restaurant remained busy, but not overly crowded or loud. Staff was friendly and fast. The sushi was great, and my young daughter loved her bento box. The prices were great for downtown Chicago.

We stumbled upon this place walking to another restaurant. The food is delicious, we liked it so much that we return on another day! We ordered the bento boxes both times and felt pretty full, they are well served and the price is right.

Came here with another couple for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The tuna salad had chunks of raw tuna among mixed greens with a very tasty dressing. The maki roll lunch special were very good as well. We will certainly return any time we are in the neighborhood.

A very tasteless ramen and middling sushi. The rolls were ok. I would not recommend coming here and won’t myself.

had a great meal of various sushi with friends. Service was great even though we came with a group of 8. Would definately return

We tried egg rolls and some petite rolls both options are in appetizer section both of them delicious beer was cold good service it is properly cheap but nothing is cheap at Chicago Michigan avenue. 100% recommended. Portions are not to big take in consideration 2 person 4 beers 2 appetizers around 38 dollars just a sample.

This was my second visit to Hot Woks Cool Sushi and it was as good as the first. A wide selection of dishes and the food is really good. Service was good and prompt. I visited on a weekday evening and was able to get a table quickly, although it was a little busy. Next time I'm in Chicago I'll be back!

Stopped here before going to see a Dave Matthews show at Northerly Island and glad we did. Got to people watch on Michigan and eat some good sushi. Make sure you try the rolls with the black rice, and the Udon was spot on.

Located right across from millennium Park, I expected a fast food quality, but was happily surprised by how good this was! The place is small, & and on a Saturday night, was packed, with tables very close together. We had to wait just 10 minutes for a table for 5. The servers worked hard to get to us ASAP, and were very pleasant. Once we placed our orders, food came quickly. The pad Thai & pad see ew were excellent, the chicken & shrimp tempura fresh and cooked just right. Prices were reasonable, and portions were plentiful.

I have never had one of these bowls before. It was great. Quality ingredients. Good service. Reasonable price. Hard to believe you get this combination on Michigan Ave in Chicago. Especially the 'reasonable price'. Next time I visit downtown Chicago, I will eat here.

We stopped at this restaurant on our walk around Millenium Park. The food that each of us had was very very good and fresh. I tried a Hawaiian Bowl with tuna and black rice and it was very good. I also had a tuna and avocado Maki which was very good also. The service was very good too. The only thing that we did not like was the bathrooms, they were not very clean. Other than that our visit was very good. Highly recommended if you like sushi and Asian food.

We had planned on eating at Buddy Guy's, but they were booked solid. We headed north on Michigan Ave. Lots of expensive restaurants. Found Hot Wok Cold Sushi to be very tasty and reasonably priced. Busy as heck but the wait staff kicked it in to high gear. Cleared a table and brought us an excellent dinner. We will definitely be back.

Food came quickly. Sushi roll was good. When I went to the restroom, it was very dirty and mess in the back. I saw 2 cooks return from the alley and go directly to the kitchen without washing their hands. My husband had stomach problems all the next day. Would not go back.

They gave us paper plates and plastic forks, so we could have a picnic. Healthy food with lots of vegetables. Not very spicey, but good.

We had both Japanese and Thai and both were delish! We ordered the gyoza’s, avocado sushi, pad see ew and panang curry with rice. Would certainly come back next time in Chicago!

I love this place. First I got to know Hot woks at Pulaski. So I was pretty sure this one at Michigan will be perfect as well. I was not disappointed. Very nice staff! A+

Always on the lookout for vegan dining options, we didn't think we'd have the amazing luck of finding an Asian place about 50 feet from our hotel, but we did! Get the Mega Vega and you're good to go. You mostly taste the sweet potato in it, but it's still very good and very vegan and that's the most important thing. We had a bit of a wait for what seemed like the only waitstaff person working the entire front of the diner and the outside seating area, but it was worth the wait. She sanitized our table and was very attentive. I wish someone would offer a vegan Thai Iced Tea or Coffee, though. Whenever you ask for that, no one ever says they have it.

Nice location across the street from Millennium Park. They had a lunch special menu where you could pick 2 or 3 rolls. Rolls are not huge but well made and good flavors. Would not go out or my way to go there but would not avoid if I was in the neighborhood.

I grab lunch there any time I am in the loop, once or twice a year for the past several years. The staff are always great, and the quality and freshness has been consistent over time. I like to get the harajuko roll to go and take it across Michigan Ave to eat it in Millennium Park. Unlike many places, they include a small plastic dish in their take out kit for dipping your pieces in soy sauce. Also important to note is that their prices are fair, especially given the location.

I was in Chicago for a conference and I was looking for sushi within walking distance of the Palmer House. Hot Woks Cool Sushi perfect. Staff was friendly and the rolls came out quickly! Good prices too. I expect to over pay for most everything in Chicago, but I was pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this restaurant.

This seems an unassuming restaurant on Michigan Ave. near the Art Institute of Chicago, but you must walk in to appreciate how large and busy the place is. Each person to whom I’ve recommended it tells me they made repeat visits. The menu specializes in Sushi but also has numerous other options. We can’t seem to get beyond the Bento Box offerings, because we like them so much. But seeing those beautiful sushi platters served like dragons, etc. certainly makes one think about trying something new. Service is quick and the prices are very reasonable for either lunch or dinner. And, the food must be authentic, given how many Asian diners are among the guests at the restaurant.

I had lunch here, Pad See Ewe and a bowl of vegetable tofu soup. I thought the soup was really good, had plenty of chunks of tofu and veggies. Really good flavor too. The Pad See Ewe was OK, I would not order it again. It had plenty of chicken in it and it was nice and hot. Bill was $16, not bad for a sit down lunch in Chicago. I would come here again as it was nice to sit down. Bathroom was clean too. Service was very friendly and the food come out pretty fast. The tables are really close together so you get to listen to the conversation from the next table. This was close to the art museum.

This restaurant is very affordable, even though located in a most touristy place near Millennium Park. Ambience is the best! Very Asian vibe. Food is definitely at best. Staffs are welcoming and very efficient. Price is very affordable! A must try restaurant if you are in Chicago.

We felt like having some Sushi so we went to Hot Woks Cool Sushi. The environment was good but noisy. We ordered 2 Spicy Tuna Maki (in case you're wondering maki means Sushi) Alaskan Maki, Panang Curry, and some Jasmine Rice. The Alaskan Maki was good, the Spicy Tuna Maki was also good but could have been spicier, The Panang Curry and Jasmine Rice was amazing. The best thing was the cost. All together everything cost $35

Very friendly staff, good wine list and excellent sushi. The service was fast and friendly and the prices are reasonable. Try it! You won't be disappointed!

The service was fantastic, and the sushi rolls were creative and fresh. Dining on the patio and people watching on Michigan Ave was a great dining experience.

Don't know what else to say - but seeing how many photos are out there (including mine) - one picture is worth thousand words!

Decent food and service, nothing great but nothing wrong with it Had the Pad Thai which was good Lots of sushi being bought around us, should have maybe given this a try. They also do take away.

This restaurant offers a wide range selection of Japanese and Thai foods and their food is surprisingly good! I always skeptical when it comes to Thai good. Either you get a real, true flavor or a full- of fish-sauce taste since there are many restaurants does not know how to cook Thai. We ordered a combinations of some Thai and some Japanese sushi for my son and was very pleased with the service also. Great place for patio sitting!

The atmosphere here was casual but nice and the food was very good, with reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend!

We went here hoping to get some good food and soup on a cold day. It seems like the mashed a lot of different types of Asian food into one menu and you end up with ok food. The service was not very good at all, had to wait a long time for water and tea. We ordered gyoza dumplings, sushi, and Tonkatsu Ramen. The ramen was a little lacking in flavor and the dumplings tasted like they had come frozen before. Overall I would not come back here.

I love Thai and this place is pretty close to the top for taste, presentation and atmosphere. The panang curry was excellent - this rich and plenty of sauce to soak the rice in with generous portions of chicken and vegetables.

I'm Thai and my family used to own a Thai restaurant. We've gone there 3 times when visiting the CHI. Menu is vast with plenty of options. Standard Thai, Japanese food. We like to sit at the outdoor and indoor front; allows for conversation without too much distractions. Recommend going during off-peak hours. Servers are attentive and helpful. Sushi was fresh. We tried the donut sushi (2 for$10). Huge rolls. Individual sushi: urchin, salmon roe, tuna, escolar (white tuna). Can't go wrong with the 10 piece combo. Bento box is a nice deal and filling. Can't go wrong with Pad Thai & Pad siew. Had the Panang noodles; seemed like they added peanut butter because it had a creamy consistency, different from the traditional panang curry over rice. Although good, would not recommend this on a hot day. See pics! For 2, we typically spend $60-70 for early dinner, and take home at least 1 entree Bathroom was clean, but again, go during off-peak hours. Husband lives this place. Compared to other Thai places in the area, this place has better price, variety, and location to sit, relax , and watch people go by.

We stopped in for lunch one day. I ordered the Untraditional Egg Rolls and the Pad Thai. My sister ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box.The food was delicious, the only problem was that the serving were so large neither of us could finish our meals. Reasonable prices, I highly recommend.

We don't call it Japanese cuisine...most of Chinese.... Even most of sushi is not Japanese...it is called western sushi roll..it means not Japanese.. Change to Chinese cuisine is right..

Our group of 8 wandered out of the Art Institute on a Saturday afternoon weak from hunger, and we walked into the first restaurant we could find- and are so glad we did. I was a little apprehensive- combination of tourist restaurant, and sushi in Chicago (I'm from the coast), but watching the plates go by as we walked in it was clear there was quality sushi going on in here. And they quickly settled the 8 of us in, getting drinks going while taking our orders. They brought out the food quickly but never rushed us. The Tuna Avocado salad was excellent, the sushi rolls (including the creative veggie Mega Vega) were all very good, and people also loved the Pad Thai and miso soup. Great convenient place near Art Institute and Millennium Park.

I went here with my family. This is a good solution traveling around in the USA instead eating hamburger every day. Absolutely to try.

We had a really good lunch at this Asian fusion place on Michigan Ave. across from Millennium Park. We started with the petite egg rolls to share, which were small, fried egg rolls. We also ordered the vegetable spring rolls, which were cool and fresh and had a delicious tamarind sauce. I ordered the “Panang Curry (spicy symbol)” with noodles, expecting the spicy symbol to mean something, and got a very tasty plate of thick noodles covered with chicken, fresh vegetables a thick, delicious (but decidedly not spicy) sauce. My wife got the Chardoney Garlic Chicken, which was “fine”, my stepmom got the cashew chicken, which she really liked. Our teen son got tamago nigiri and chicken fried rice, which he ate but said was “not like the fried rice back home” in California. Oh, well… Total was ~$18 per person (no wine or beer), so this was lot of great tastes at a very good value.

We had great service, and both my husband and I really enjoyed our meal. We ordered a sushi roll, and two Thai dishes - but there are other kinds of Asian cuisine on their menu as well. I like that there was a wide variety of menu offerings. We were also able to get a table without a wait and it was well priced.

I walked in and requested an order to go. I had 2 people come by and ask me if I wanted something to drink while I waited. Nat was my "server" as I waited (only 13 minutes!) for my food and he suggested the mount fuji roll (which I ordered). He was polite and personable without being intrusive. I LOVED the fuji roll - it wasn't too spicy but the flavor was perfect. I also purchased the lemon mascarpone cake which I enjoyed very much. I will go back the next time I'm around.

Dropped in on Saturday night for dinner, and the staff were welcoming, the menu was varied and interesting and we enjoyed it all. Good sushi, a nice Pad Thai with an unusual sweetness to it and enjoyable all round. Despite being right by the park, the Bean and the Art Institute, the prices are not jacked up and crazy like all the neighboring eateries. Recommended !

My teenage daughter chose Hot Woks for lunch as she loves sushi. It was a very busy place, and they still had great service. We were seated quickly and our waiter was patient while we decided, checking back in without rushing us. We got the spicy tuna roll and the Mt. Fuji signature roll. It came plated adorably (Mt Fuji stacked like a mountain and a Japanese flag on top). The flavors were great, fresh. I could have used a bit more wasabi but fortunately my daughter doesn’t care for it. The adorable decor added to the experience. It was very reasonably priced. We would love to go back to try a bento box. Very “cool!”

Food was superb, on a busy night it came quickly with the waiter very much on top of his game, service charge should be for you to determine thought not set

Famished after a long day in the area, so we stopped to check this place out. It satisfied everyone! We ordered the spring rolls (different, b/c it looked like an unfried egg roll wrapper), egg rolls (mini versions I guess), a chicken teryacki bento box that came w/miso soup, 1 unago sushi, curry panang, and pud see ew I think. See pics. Prices were very decent.

My husband and I love sushi. While this place may not be at the top of sushi places in Chicago, it is significantly better than any sushi we can get in Texas. It also has a great variety of dishes that allow options for more selective eaters. My oldest will not consider eating sushi, yet she found many items on the menu that she was happy with.... and the price is right. Not too expensive.

Got take out from here two nights while staying at the Palmer House. Ordered from their website and the food was made very quickly. First night I had the Sushi Gold combo. Lots of nice fresh fish and a good variety. Added two pieces of Salmon roe sushi which were great. Sushi Gold comes with miso soup which I usually don't care for. Theirs was better than most. Second night I had the Untraditional Egg Rolls. I'm not usually a fan of fried rolls, but these were crispy, not greasy, and the filling was very flavorful. Also had a Blackhawks Roll. It had black rice, red tobiko, and white tune - the colors of the Blackhawks. I found it rather bland. Decided to try the Lemon Marscapone Cake. It was excellent! All staff were quite friendly. Prices were fair. I would definitely go back!

Lunch after visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. Everything in the museum was closed because of Covid. So, not wanting something from the various food trucks along the street, we chose here. It took about 10 minutes to get seated, but that was fine given the lines waiting to be seated at other places we passed. A little loud at the bussing stations, which was why I did not give it 5|stars. The food came quickly and was quite good. We both ordered the sushi and it was freshly made. This place was a perfect respite from the crowds at the Cezanne exhibit. Nice change of pace.

This doesn't look like an impressive place, but don't be fooled. It's some of the best sushi I've had in a long time! We especially loved the sushi rolls and the mixed drinks! Everything was fast, fresh and delicious, with great prices too. Our server was also really sweet.

Get past the kitsch name, the food is very good and very reasonably priced. Not many other places in Chicago with table service where you get out with a bill of under $30!

Outstanding sushi and amazing prices. Very good selection and didn’t have to wait too long on a Saturday Night. 10/5 stars if I could. I will definitely be coming back here.

From sushi to other traditional Asian dishes, lots to choose from. The host would not seat me without all my party of four, even though they were slow which I found annoying since was needing water and rest. But the food was good overall. One item was slow arriving after everything else had been served. I've been there years before where it seems like the food just comes out however from the kitchen.

Really great Thai food for awesome prices in Chicago. They also have a large menu with yummy sushi options to pair with noodle, poke, and other dishes. Great dinner spot for friends! Just to note their spring rolls aren’t traditional and are served in a sweet sauce

I've dined here several times. Food is consistent, clean, and very tasty. Service is pretty quick and prompt. Not cheap but not to pricey. Great American sushi. Good for visitors, casual dining, lunch, and students.

Standard of sanitation in the washroom was vile. The food was unpleasant. Beef was not tender. Sushi was wrapped haphazardly.
Let down - check your bill
I have been to the Hot Wok on Adams and had a much better experience. The food here was ‘ok’ but the overcharge on my check was very disappointing. I asked about the extra charge and the person at the front admitted they gave themselves a generous tip. I was not bothered by the amount but rather the principle! And only one toilet? Never again!
