While visiting Austin, I was looking for a good and unique coffee place. This one was not far from my hotel so I decided to give it a try. I had never tried a Japanese Iced Coffee before but gave it a try. Watching the delicate process was amazing and the taste is worth waiting for. The staff are friendly and the breakfast tacos are yummy. Would visit again.

Modern, trendy, and great coffee. Austin seems to be a tad behind the curve with third-wave coffee, but Houndstooth didn't disappoint. Really great beans and talented baristas. Great design and cool furniture in this location—very much worth a visit!

We stopped here based on a tip via Instagram and were not disappointed. Great ambiance and the excellent pour-over coffee was worth the wait! It would have been nice to have a menu of breakfast options but the muffins were great.

We stopped here for breakfast while in town. We ordered an Americano, a hibiscus iced tea, a breakfast taco and a banana muffin - everything was so good. We enjoyed the vibe of the shop and the patio space! The staff was super friendly as well!

This was the best coffee I’ve ever had! I got an iced latte. It was very tasty and they had plenty of milk alternative options to choose from which was great!

We stopped in here just to grab a drink and some wifi before meeting a client for lunch. The staff was fantastic - fun to interact with, great recommendations, and a bit on the Austin hipster side (which suits us great). The chai was very good as was the blueberry iced tea. Internet speeds were good and the bathrooms were clean. We loved sitting on the patio and enjoying the lovely February weather. We would definitely stop in again!

Located in the center of Austin's CBD, this Houndstooth Coffee bar is a friendly and relaxed craft coffee bar with ample, welcoming seating. No matter how you take your fix, Houndstooth Coffee has the answer for that much-needed boost of caffeinated energy!

I ordered a large mocha. Most of the chocolate was in a lump at the bottom instead of being mixed in, and it cost over $8. The most I have been changed anywhere else is $6.

The atmosphere at Houndstooth is laid back and comfortable. The coffee is some of the best I have had. And one thing I remember about it is the music. The music was fun and upbeat.

Great stop for premium, handmade coffee and espresso drinks. Highly recommend if you are looking for great coffee in the city!

Basic clean and friendly coffee shop. Plenty of seating and quick service. You must try the El Socorro (Guatamala). Wow!

My son and I only had coffee at Houndstooth, but it was a memorable espresso... maybe three. We were looking for NOT Starbucks and stumbled upon this great, laid back coffee house.

Stopped in to take the chill off a cold afternoon. Staff was friendly and helpful with their coffee suggestions. The coffee was smooth and delicious, I even bought their Texas roasted Tweed coffee to take home.

Decaf vanilla latte and blueberry scone. Delicious and beautifully presented. Such a friendly place.

Pretty good espresso, they usually have four choices for single origin espresso. They also make great lattes at just the right amount of sweetness. There’s plenty of room to sit but could be too loud for some looking for quiet.

Very laid back atmosphere in the middle of a buzzing city and the coffee is fantastic. Why not all stars? Everyone has their own taste preference and I'm simply not a huge fan of their roast as I like very strong flavor. Other than that, be sure to give them a try. Friendly staff.

Good strong espresso done well. A rare and welcomed find. They also offer a choice of beans but i found the house beans to be more than adequate.

I unfortunately do not like coffee so I cannot comment on that but we were told this was THE place for coffee in Austin. The space is simple but elegant and fairly impressive. Our soy lattes and hot chocolate were quite yummy, though my hot chocolate flavor felt like a bit of a letdown. There is quite a lot of seating and it's bright and open. There seemed to be a good variety of tea's and coffee's available.

I got an americano and a blueberry muffin. Both didn't disappoint. Between this coffee shop, and Jo's on congress, I would choose Jo's.

Super good coffee, great service, big selection of proper coffee with interesting twists. Highly recommended for coffee lovers :)

I've heard RAVE reviews of Houndstooth from several friends who live in Austin and others who visit frequently. I visited on a recent weekend to see for myself what the hype was about. Wow, was I disappointed. The service was pathetically slow, with the staff messing up at least 3 orders for the people in line ahead of me. While I'd heard amazing things about the quality of the coffee, it honestly didn't taste any better than the typical national chain. The seating area looked comfy; too bad it took so long to order & get my drink so I didn't have time to enjoy it. Maybe you'll have a better experience, but for me -- I don't see any reason to come back.

Worth the flight to Austin. Knowledgeable staff and personalized service. Totally has the hip relaxed vibe I was looking for, and the coffee was awesome!

The line wrapped around the building the entire time I sipped my Americano. Good coffee, fun atmosphere, and friendly staff in a hoppin' area of the city. As a tourist, I found it to be a good space to observe and mingle with the locals.

I'm in town for the weekend with SWE and decided to stop in here for a quick beverage. It was a bit pricey (3-6 dollars) but the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Good atmosphere and very austin-like. There was a girl with glasses that was cheery and a boy in a striped shirt on the register that was conversational and super nice.

Decent coffee, but limited choice of syrups. We didn’t try the food. Good service. Shop is located inside the bank building at 4th and Congress.

Located down the street from the Convention Center, Houndstooth Coffee offers excellent coffee, pastries, and other goodies. I visited this shop several times while on business and loved the relaxed environment and wonderful coffee. The regular coffee was riched, perfectly brewed, and tasty. On another visit I ordered a latte. It was made with care and with attention to details. The croissants, especially the pain au chocolat, were delicious. There is wifi and space to set up to do work. The area is airy and bright with a variety of tables, counters, and chairs. It felt relaxed and welcoming. A definite find in Austin. I plan to return on my next trip to the city.

We were walking around one afternoon & stopped in. The baristas were super friendly and the iced lattes were great!

I went here a couple times while in Austin and the coffee never disappointed. Even took some home. However, the lines at times were a bit long. Highly recommend going here, just make sure you have a little extra time.

its a cool coffee shop with nice coffee - try it out. Friendly staff a well and some outside seating

While getting to my SXSW event I walked by a coffee shop located in the Frost Bank building. I decided to walk in to find others in this small coffeehouse. I got in line and examined the place where I saw they sell prepared sandwiches, beer & wine, and coffee. It’s really a cool place. They also sell Tweed coffee bean packages to take and brew at home. I ordered a small coffee to go. I did not sit to hang out but I believe they had WiFi. The coffee was really smooth and tasty. No parking where this is a street shop so either walk, scooter or bike here.

The first time I visited this Houndstooth Coffee was same day I first kissed my now-husband. So maybe the coffee was actually a love potion.... ;) But, seriously, I'm a sucker for mochas and Houndstooth has one of my favorites in town. We also enjoy the pastries. Sometimes it's hard to find a table but we've always been content to just take our coffee on the go. This location is great for visitors who are wandering up and down Congress Ave.

While staying downtown I came here both mornings for my daily coffee. Day one was a cappuccino-perfect, day two a latte both with 1% milk. Nothing fancy just great coffee with a smile and pleasant conversation. I loved the coffee so much I bought a bag to take home. They also have pastries and breakfast tacos available brought in from close by local restaurants. When I come back to Austin you will find me enjoying Houndstooth Coffee!

Coffee was very good and the service spot on, the coffee albeit was pricey maybe because it was downtown, paid 6.50 for a latte Espresso rating 8/10

Stopped by for a quick coffee. The staff were super friendly and chatty. Relaxing ambiance in a convenient downtown location. The coffee was great. Would definitely come back!

I finished up an early morning business meeting and decided to stop by Houndstooth for a latte around 10 am. The place was PACKED....almost every table was taken and lots of conversation going on. Latte was good and service was very quick. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great coffee to go or a lively ambiance!

Hidden in the Frost Tower between Congress Ave. and 5th St. is perhaps one of the best coffees I have tasted! I personally thought Houndstooth Coffee was comparable to Intelligentsia Coffee I had in Chicago and New York, so I was so happy that I can still get heavenly coffee without going out of my beloved state of Texas. Whether you are coming here for a study session or a short coffee break, Houndstooth is perfect. The shop gives off a relaxing vibe that is great for hanging out for any length of time. Expect not only great coffee from Houndstooth but also great service in this super chill shop! If you love coffee, you cannot miss the opportunity to grab a cup here!

Simple coffee shop w great coffee with a variety of breakfast burritos. No waiting as they are in the heating pad prewrapped by barista

Stopped in here on my walk to work. Everyone was friendly, even my fellow patrons. Definitely a nice way to start the day. Coffee was good & I got a little breakfast burrito. Definitely recommend stopping in.

The service was very neutral not the friendliest but not rude. The coffee is expensive for what it is. They don't make any of their own syrups.

Really enjoyed the coffee here. Good recommendations for beans to take home. Cascara tea was interesting to try. Good place for coffee snobs to check out :)

This is a great location if you're staying or working in downtown Austin. Find it on the ground floor of the iconic Frost Bank tower designed to look like an owl when seen from the corners, the Frost logos are the eyes. You can get their regular drip coffee which is very good, or if you can take about 4 more minutes to wait, then you can get a freshly ground, single-cone brewed cup, of a few other exceptional single-origin coffees. They also have baked goods and Taco Deli tacos for a quick bite. Nice atmosphere, modern design, very nice staff who care about coffee.

Peaceful, calm coffee house, with a great Wi-Fi and the best flat white. Went there three days in a row.

Had a regular latte the first day and was sold. The baristas are also extremely friendly and one recommended trying the espresso popsicle, which was ridiculously good.

I was in Austin for 8 days for SXSW. Once I found Houndsooth never looked back. I would walk 15 minutes out of my way for one of their lattes. Snickerdoodles were pretty good as well.

Nice to visit a local coffee spot. They have a very cool modern machine. Only a few like it in the country. Good brews and nice people

This place was busy and bustling during the SXSW Film Festival, and I finally had a second between screenings to pop in for a coffee and a snack. I was happy with my experience here. The baked goods all looked so yummy, so I couldn't resist! I ordered a cappuccino and a scone from the busy and friendly employee behind the counter. The line was long and stretched back to almost the entrance, but it moved quickly and by the time I paid and moved down the line, my order was ready! Note that seating is tight here because it appears people like to come and camp out with their laptops and sit. And sit. And sit. It took me a while to find a stool for one, which was frustrating since I was just there to drink, snack and leave. It seems like a place that has regulars, which is always a good sign. My lemon poppyseed scone was fresh and delicious, with a burst of fresh and pungent lemon flavor! I loved it so much, and it was the perfect accompaniment to my creamy, rich cappuccino. I loved that my drink was served in a proper ceramic cup instead of the go-to paper cups that most coffee bars are leaning towards, and it was served at the correct temperature (not too hot and not lukewarm). Of course, you are paying for the quality, and this isn't a place for a cheap bargain! Love that it's open 7 days a week (but only until 5 pm on the weekend); weekdays you can get your caffeine fix until 7 pm! Great place if you're attending SXSW as the location is downtown and close to festival venues and the convention center.

An Austin original, Houndstooth is a coffee aficionados paradise, dolling out a variety of fine espresso, pour over, house brew, expertly frothed lattes and cappuccinos, and a tasty variety of pastries. A great place to sit and study or work, and an even better date spot. The large open windows, organic wood interior, custom mugs, and occasional mustache-clad barista complete a refined cafe aesthetic fit for business executives and bearded hippies alike. Clean, modern, effective, and calming—that’s the winsome ambience Houndstooth is known for. This little shop always treats me right! I give it 4/5 only because my favorite coffee shops are generally more relaxed, with a raw, organic aesthetic, less focused on sheen and clean traits, prioritizing a homey vibe that feels less stiff and more comfortable. Great place, regardless.

Went around 3pm on weekday, line was long. Waited 20min to place order. Picked hot chocolate which was not too sweet, thankfully.

Stopped in for a quick coffee on the way through town to the airport. Great coffee. Took some home with me to enjoy as well.

Really good selection of coffee drinks. The pastries are good but the selection is limited. They don't actually make food here but stock tacos.

My wife and I grabbed some coffee at Houndstooth while visiting downtown Austin. The barista was great and able to help customize my wife’s decaf coffee to her particular desire. My mocha latte with oatmilk was delicious. The barista also helped us out by providing some local coffee shops along our route to visit later on our trip. I’d definitely return in the future.

Located in the Krypton-esque Frost Bank Tower, the coffee house pulls off a warm cozy feeling with wood accents and warm colors. The customer service excels even with the barista's slight NYC attitude accented with the requisite coffee-house snobbery. The pastries are tasty and fresh. Above all else, the coffee exceeds all standards and expectations. Great beans, perfect roast, expert preparation. People who work in this building have at least one motivation to come to work every day.

I stopped in twice while visiting Austin over a weekend. I was pleased that they had single sourced coffee beans from different areas. The baristas know their business and make great coffees. It is so much better than the national chains. The baked goods there are very good too.

We happened upon this place when looking for some good coffee while on vacation. They did not disappoint. I had the iced mocha which was great! It wasn't too sweet and the flavors were awesome. My husband had the iced Americano and said it was delicious. The staff was very kind and friendly. They have a very good selection and you can tell they pride themselves on high quality coffee and finding drinks to make their customers happy.

The espresso is amazing, the atmosphere is chill and so is the Lime Iron. Take a chance on this iced limeade/coffee number.. word is you either love it or you don't. Even more than the refreshing drinks there within, the baristas are knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. This is my new coffee haunt.

I went to Houndstooth on a recommendation from a friend. I think the coffee was just fine, not worth going out of my way for. But the atmosphere is great, and that’s because of the people working there! They were all so fun and made great recommendations, despite being swamped by the SXSW crowd. Would definitely go back, just for that.

My husband and I really enjoyed this stop while roaming the streets of downtown. We both ordered iced teas and they hit the spot. The ladies behind the counter instantly greeted us with a smile and we found a perfect spot outdoors for a nice place to people watch for a bit. We didn't get a chance to snack but everyone's food looked amazing!

Came twice. Once to have in and once to take out. Both times great with good service. Recommended for anyone looking for good coffee

What a haven of calm and joy and great coffee. The staff are genuinely friendly and happy to see you, all while making wonderful coffee at blinding speed. You're literally still joking around with the fetching cashier when your beautifully pulled latte arrives at the counter. And the coffee! Beautiful beans, perfectly roasted, changing every few days. This place is about love, love, love. The wifi is free and reliable, the decor is impeccable, the atmousphere is calm and positive. I literally couldn't find fault with this gem. I was in Austin for South By South West and this oasis of greatness kept me upright many a time I was flagging. As Homer Simpson would say, nine thumbs up.

Was looking for a good, simple iced coffee. I must admit, I felt a bit out of place ordering this while everyone around me was ordering fancy coffee drinks. However, the coffee was very good and had a bold yet smooth flavor. I'll get another before I leave downtown.

Great coffee and tea spot. Modern decor. From previous reviews, I thought there might be a crowd, but on Sunday when I went there were only a few tables full and no line.

modern/hip vibe. coffee very good and excellent service. prices were normal. don't go to Starbucks, go here.

Well made espresso and nicely foamed milk with that fancy pants lead design on top. It's worth knowing there's a cart out back if you just want coffee quickly without any pastries. You can pay by card there, but on one of my two visits the barista offered me the iPad with an 'opportunity' to add a tip. Maybe it's just being British, but if I've just paid $4.20 for a cup of take out coffee, I don't feel like a minimum $1 tip on top is deserved, and it's always awkward to press the 'No tip' button (again, British...)

If you want some great coffee or tea while in downtown Austin, TX, this is your place. They have nice tables with wifi that works and you can't beat the location near 4th/6th street and the heart of downtown. Sandwiches, etc. need work but it's a great place to meet over coffee.

Theres something that comes from walking in someplace where people actually seem happy to be there. Enjoyed a couple of tasty vanilla latte's along with a great recommendation for a restaurant along Rainey Street. Definitely worth the tip.

Very good cappuccino served with Italian speaking girl 😜what a nice surprise. Love it and I will come back soon during this week

I hate to give bad reviews. This place was great yesterday and the service was great. I even tipped well. I got two coffees and an almond croissant. The croissant has salt instead of sugar. The vanilla coffee lacked vanilla. Otherwise I would have given a five star.

Mostly a coffee spot with some pastries and I think there were few food items in the frig but nothing tempting so after our coffee we went some place for actual food. But for a good cappuccino and iced tea, this hit the spot. Service was friendly and nice. We went a couple of times for coffee while we were in town.

Called in there most days I was in Austin. Good people and really great coffee (every day). Exceptionally peasant place to sit and have coffee

Great service, with a smile. There were about 5 people ahead of me but the line moved quickly. The 2 baristas were a great team. My latte was as beautiful as it tasted. I wish I had a Houndstooth back in GA.
Real coffee, meticulously prepared
I love the smell and feel of a real coffee shop where you wait a little longer but get preparation that is focused on the details. From the little shapes in the frothy milk to the perfect temperature, this place served a great latte, macchiato, and mocha (I tried them all). As a side note, they also have great breakfast tacos, which doesn't pair perfectly with coffee, but I was hungry and tired of waiting for breakfast at my hotel, so I grabbed one to go. Nice fringe benefit!
