This place was recommended and it was worth it! The turkey dinner was better than moms! The gravy was outstanding! We also tried their specialty Spanish coffee and it was great (plus it'll put a little hair on your chest). The cocktails were also very good and perfectly presented. I highly recommend! The decor is super unique and gives a 1950s vibe. I loved it. The staff were also very friendly.

Huber's, apparently the oldest surviving restaurant in Portland, is a wonderful, old-school restaurant downtown. It is not nouveau or experimental, but serves traditional, tried-and-true, good food and cocktails in a lovely atmosphere with great service. We had the house specialty, Roast Young Tom turkey dinner with stuffing, baked yam, veg, gravy, and cranberry sauce, plus a side of coleslaw. All were excellent and the coleslaw was sublime, amongst the best traditional, simple coleslaw I have ever had, perfectly and finely chopped and well mixed and rested. We had excellent cocktails, starting with a sazerac and finishing with their signature Spanish Coffee prepared table side. Service is excellent, efficient, and friendly, and the preparation of the Spanish Coffee was done with style. We had never been here before but we now plan to go here whenever we are in Portland.

Heard about the Spanish coffee before this trip so I made sure to visit. It didn’t disappoint! The drink was delicious and they had good happy hour appetizers. The drink is more of an experience to watch it being made. I sat at the bar, which was great, had a friendly bartender who was also very attentive!

Elegant century old room done in dark wood paneling and sprawling stained skylights. Excellent service and all encompassing menu. But if you are a turk-a-holic this is your place. Try the half and half - roast turkey and baked ham with a savory, sweet gravy for the potatoes and dressing. Do not be put off by the ambiance. Reasonable prices for the quality and quantity.

While on a recent business trip to Portland, our group had dinner and drinks at the famous Hubers. Visiting the back area of the restuarant is a must! First timers are always impressed with the ceiling. I love the ambiance of this place, the comfort of good food, and Spanish coffee. There is good reason they are known for their Spanish coffees and I love mine on ice. Highly recommended. The front portion of the restuarant is comfortable for families too.

Anytime I make it to Portland for a visit, I always plan a trip to Hubers. This last trip in August was no exception. Unfortunately, I feel the quality has slipped. Service was very slow and not attentive at all. We sat in the bar area, as we have in the past, but never again, it was So flippin loud (and not packed) we had to shout at each other to be heard. Though it was fun to watch the waiter (not ours) prepare the infamous Spanish coffee. Because we weren't too hungry or not hungry enough to order the fab turkey dinner, my brother and I each ordered a salad. Me the Cobb and him the Beet and Apple salad. Cobb - nothing to write home about and even though I said "no tomatoes", they were on the salad, so I had to pick them off. I'm allergic. Nice presentation but really just "meh" even after adding the grilled chicken. Beet salad had barely any beets or shall I say they were so small you had to hunt for them and the apples. Friend had a cheeseburger, which did look divine and was HUGE Other friend had the turkey dinner, which she said was o.k., but again, it seemed as if something was lacking. We asked for what used to be the complimentary beer bread and it was cold w/cold pats of butter. Sadly, this may be my last visit. It is an icon, so try it for yourself.

Early 20th Century vibe with dark woods and a high ceiling. Nostalgic photos blanket the walls. Waiters wearing long aprons and big smiles serve a menu with something for everyone. If you like turkey, this is the place to go.

Portland’s oldest restaurant. Serving great meals to the public since 1879. Our tour guide pointed them out as being famous for their turkey dishes. We both had roast turkey for lunch as our main meal for the day. Both meals were very good or better. Nice decor and service. Three inside seating areas and one outside area. Nice bar. See photos once posted.

I had a six hour layover so de died to head into the city. Overall I was disappointed. Not much to do there and overall found the city a bit dirty. I visited the cultural center which I found somewhat interesting. The highlight was lunch at the oldest bar/restaurant, Hubers. The food and atmosphere were very enjoyable.

This was a very nice experience. The food we had was extremely good, for instance, the beef tenderloin was memorable. The Spanish coffee was also very good and a great show. The historic place (the oldest restaurant in Portland) was great without coming across as a tourist trap. Highly recommended.

Came here with friends after dinner at Imperial for Spanish Coffees & dessert. We love this place & come here frequently when in Portland. Watching them make the Spanish Coffee is as good as drinking them! Such talented & friendly table-side service. The cheesecake is always delicious & this time we ordered a turkey appetizer to share as well, which was very good. Like Chinese bbq pork, but with a turkey cutlet.

Perfect, as usual. We both ordered the turkey dinner but I knew I couldn't eat the whole thing so server suggested the kids meal. It was perfect size. We were going to theater afterwards so could not take doggy bag. The beer bread tastes like pound cake, so good! The decor is gorgeous, old school, fine dining

I came the day AFTER thanksgiving at 2pm and it was quite crowded. The service was slow, and I got my coffee re-filled only once and my water not at all, and waited a very long time for pumpkin pie and the check. The noise level was very high, next time I will bring noise canceling headphones. Still the meal was very good. Both white and dark meat, They gave me extra mashed potatoes since I did not want dressing. I had both without gravy. I think the potatoes were fresh, (one small lump). Even the broccoli and cranberry sauce were good. The black coffee was really good. Other tables were having Spanish coffee quite a show. The waitress had a great smile. I would skip the pie not that good or worth the wait, (maybe because I said no whipped cream). --- I came the day before thanksgiving and had beef stroganoff. It was good but not the best I have had. Some bites were very strong onion flavor (thought I was eating onion soup). Still decent.

Love the history of the restaurant and the food is really good! We went for Happy Hour ordering the specials from the Happy Hour menu. The beef skewers were excellent!

Nice old school restaurant with good food - not the latest trend or plates with artistic flair. Easy access downtown excellent bartenders and a short ‘show’ for the special flaming coffee done right at your table

Hubers may very well be the oldest restaurant in Portland. Their roasted turkey is as good as grandmas and their spanish coffees are world renowned. I think I read they're the countries leading server of Kahlua(a key ingredient in spanish coffees). When you visit, make sure you try the soda bread.

This place is well past its prime. We went for dinner and there were only 2 people in the restaurant so we decided to order a couple of appetizers on happy hour and a drink. We ordered the calamari which was clearly processed and frozen. Complete fail. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip which had no flavor. Perhaps the entrees are better but we will never return.

Three generations went to Huber’s for our traditional Spanish coffee. The presentation by the baristas it’s always fun to watch. It is magical. It is also delicious! That being said our second drink order was totally incorrect. One ordered a Manhattan and received an old-fashioned and I ordered Kahlúa and coffee and there was no Kahlúa in the coffee. Everyone at our table tasted my coffee and said there was nothing in it. The waitress took the coffee back and they may put a teaspoon in to give it some flavoring. The food was good, the service was fine considering how understaffed they were. It just was not the Huber’s experience that we have come to expect.

Yesterday I brought one of my daughters to eat and the truth is that my daughter and Ami had a good time, not to mention the food and the good service, thank you, I will return again.

We went for dinner at Huber's on a recent stay in downtown Portland after a week in Seaside. After the week of seafood, we were looking for some good "landfood" and Huber's was close. For those of you who have stayed in downtown Portland, you may understand why we were wanting something close by... We arrived for dinner at 6:00. The service was prompt and professional. We had calamari fritta for our appetizer which was actually on special as part of happy hour. It was okay, not the best we've had and not the worst. For our mains, we both ordered some form of turkey dinner. I had the roast turkey with mashed potatoes and swapped out the stuffing for the roast yams - absolutely no issue with doing this. My husband had the drumstick dinner. The plates arrived and the serving was much larger than what it appears on the pictures online. Both meals were very tasty and we enjoyed them very much. My husband finished his meal with a Spanish coffee, flamed table side and the largest serving of Tiramisu we've ever seen. All in all a lovely meal. Some of the decor could use some sprucing up. We noticed that one of the beautiful ceiling panels you see was broken and sagging and some of the air vent covers were in very bad shape. But it certainly maintains some of the character one would expect in a building this old.

It didn't disappoint, but wasn't as fabulous as I had hoped. My wife had the Cioppino she liked it, but no rave. Service was fast and friendly. Good food and value.

We missed having a traditional Christmas dinner, so we swung by Huber’s between Christmas and New Year’s, for some good old-fashioned turkey, ham, and mashed potatoes. We weren’t disappointed! My boyfriend even got an entire dinner to go, so he could have it again the next day.

The food was good and the service was ok. I also felt that they wanted to rush us out so they could serve more people.

Wow... recommended by the lady at the Visitor Information Center... we went to Huber’s restaurant; and it was our highlight of the day. Lovely greeting by Kyle the reception/floor supervisor, he took time to explain some photos on the walls and told us a glimpse of their history. Ask to be seated in the old part of this iconic restaurant! You will appreciate the decor and all its antiques. The food was so reasonably priced and my Turkey pot pie was simply divine... tasty, homely, and full of chunks of v tender turkey meat which they are very famous for from 1910. The clam chowder was exceptionally good too. We met the co-owner James Louie... what an honour... and what a charming, personable and interesting man! Do be sure to treat yourself to their v popular Spanish coffee... an Instagram worthy posing for sure!

We were told by a Portland native to seek out this restaurant and we were not disappointed. My wife had a fab glass of pinot gris and I had a local beer - solid selection available by the way. Service was excellent as was the food. Take time to read about the history of the restaurant. Old speakeasy.

Good restaurant in downtown. Ate in the back in the bar area. Wonderful surrounding and historic pictures. Food was good Turkey and Ham dinner their special, excellent. Service was very good. Definitely come for lunch or dinner.

So many things to say: 1) the surrounding areas are really 'seedy' even during the day, I was very aware of my surroundings. I walked by and noticed all the previous accolades the restaurant won and felt I really needed to support them. 2) the services was well below average! I had to wait for 15 minutes to place my order and then I gave up and asked one of the employees to arrange someone to take my order. The restaurant was quite at the time and there were no staff on the floor for an extended period. I also had to ask for cutlery. I could hear the staff laughing out the back. This all made me very grumpy! My perception from the waitress' body language is that it is not an enjoyable place to work. There was a gentleman who appeared at one stage, he looked like the manage, I really wanted to talk to him! 3) there appears to be no gender equity. The men are in the bar and generally not fully utilised. The women are on the floor and are much busier. My waitress had no idea about wines, which was really frustrating. I have worked as a waitress for several years and you need to educate yourself. 4) the food was sensational, I can't speak highly enough, I loved it! I had the creole fish and prawns. I would return again just for this!! 5) the physical atmosphere was fabulous! I have visions of being here in the 1920s. 6) I am currently sipping a cocktail - triple fabulous!! Recommendation - visit, just adjust your expectations of service. Also, if you are not really hungry, visit the bar for 'happy hour' which includes food. Okay - I am sitting here and there are people waiting on at the door and only one wait staff on the floor (who is busy). Absolutely no-one paying attention to them!!! I had to ask someone from the bar to organise someone to serve them! The service here is the worst! It could be so much better!!! So much potential, so sad.

We arrived for an early dinner and were seated by the noisy kitchen although there were plenty of empty tables. The turkey and ham entree was surprising. After reading all the rave reviews about the turkey we were amazed at how incredibly delicious and tender the ham was. Salmon special was perfectly cooked and delectable. Glass of Chardonnay was not a good value. The big disappointment was dessert. The bread pudding was a tasteless rubber cube. Had to use a knife just to take a bite. Not enough liquor in the hard sauce and not enough sauce. We won’t be returning. Disappointed by the experience.

I stumbled upon this place and boy was it delicious, fun, and memorable. This is the oldest Restaurant in Portland and I'm kind of surprised it didn't come up in any of my searches. It's in The Pearl District which has beautiful, historic buildings. The food was absolutely delicious and one of the least expensive meals I've had all week while in Portland. This place is a gem!!! The chicken wings are bomb! The fish and chips with coleslaw was delicious and the hot turkey dinner, their specialty, was fabulous!!! Beautiful interior and great service!!! Thoroughly enjoyed!!!

First meal in Portland and this was an excellent choice! Ham dinner and turkey club were delicious and perfect portion size. The crème brûlée was good, but the magic was when we ordered the Spanish coffee! Prepared table side, it was mostly alcohol and it was literally on fire. Highly recommend Hubers!!

The oldest restaurant in Portland deserves a visit. Busy, bustling, very loud so conversation is limited. Food very good except for the bread which is more like a sweet pound cake, definitely not good with a nice salad or soup.

Pleased with my meal. Was late and I was tired so had one of the delivery services pick up and bring to my hotel. They said nearly an hour but took less by 15 min. I had the beast burger which was quite tasty. Fries were good. Price was pretty reasonable considering delivery charges. A good experience.

We had a reservation for our group of 12. For most of us,it was our first time to Huber's. We were excited about the Spanish Coffee drinks and the historical restaurant. Too bad it was a huge disappointment. The waitress was pleasant and we were patient & understanding that is was a busy Friday night. After our dinner order was placed it was a terrible experience. 2 dinners were served, wait...1 more dinner was served....a soup, wait & wait & wait until the waitress returned to our table and checked on us. We had to tell her that 50% of our group is still waiting for their meals. Two people in our group ordered dessert only and that had not been served. We were there for two and a half hours waiting for our food to be served together for our celebration. I can not say I will return to Huber's for a meal. Maybe a Spanish Coffee only but this restaurant is not on my list to recommend to anyone. It was so sad to end our fun night out in Portland with a terrible place like Huber's.

The ambiance is amazing. The owners and work staff does a fabulous job of making you feel comfortable like home. Don’t miss the opportunity for spanish coffees and great comfort food.

Excellent staff; treat everyone graciously (even tho there were many people dressed in T-shirt’s and shorts.) Ick. This restaurant deserves people to dress up. Or better anyway. Turkey dinner was just like Moms and much better than mine. Crab cakes excellent. So good we saved half for tomorrow’s lunch. Prices very reasonable- about $20 less than a certain Q-trendy restaurant we dined at last night. And staff MUCH friendlier. We were treated so well!

Very historic restaurant…wonderful architecture Unfortunately, the crab cakes didn’t seem to have much crab in them Smoked Salmon salmon was merely’ok’

We enjoyed a nice turkey dinner at Huber's last night. The servings are very generous, and the server was happy to accommodate our sharing one entree. My husband also had a spinach salad with Bay shrimp which he enjoyed as fresh and good quality. There are two sections to the restaurant, the front being newer and a little more quiet. In the back is where you will find the bar and the original part of the restaurant. It's definitely worth ordering a tableside Spanish copy, which is a high light and signature drink.

I was in town for a conference and needed a restaurant for four people for dinner. Huber’s kept showing up as an option on my searches since it’s so close off of the MetroMax, took reservations, and had a variety of food options. I had to admit, when I walked by earlier in the week I second-guessed my decision and almost canceled. But, wow! I am so glad we kept our reservation! Walking in was a bit odd, since the restaurant is in the back off of a long, old-looking hallway. But, then comes the opening for the restaurant. The restaurant itself looks like an old, beautiful, classic restaurant. We thought it reminded us of a SpeakEasy and found out from staff that’s what it used to be. The food was great. I got the turkey dinner and it was fresh turkey - like Thanksgiving. After days of conference food, it was so nice to sit in a nice restaurant and have quality food. All of the staff was great. They were kind, accommodating, and prompt. My only regret was not getting the Spanish Coffee (the next table over got it), but, I will be back for the conference next year and will make sure we come back.

We have eaten at Huber's in the past and wanted to return to have their advertised turkey dinner to get our appetites ready for Thanksgiving! We had two other couples who wanted to join us, so we all went last week! 4 of the total 6 people in our group ordered the turkey meals, and I loved the food I had! Everything was delicious including the turkey (both light and dark meat included), the mashed potatoes, and the gravy, but the sage dressing was also SO good!! We thought our server, Kayla, did a wonderful job as our server, and I told her she would be mentioned in my TA review. All in all, we would definitely return to have this turkey dinner again which is served each day!

We had a few days in Portland at the end of our trip and we were excited to try Huber’s. We had heard good things and it’s the oldest restaurant in Portland. We got a last minute reservation which was a good thing because without the reservation, we may not have been given a table or else had an extremely long wait. . Not sure the table was worth it though. Everyone was very friendly after they found out we had a reservation. There were positives and negatives to the experience. Our server was busy but helpful and attentive. Our table was probably the worst table in the restaurant. A tiny 2-top squeezed in between booths and tables. The man dining at the table right next to me was rude and didn’t know a thing about personal space or staying seated while eating. The service and people in booths on other side were constantly putting their backsides in our table space. Very frustrating and not a relaxing dinner at all due to these factors. The atmosphere was incredibly loud. Hard to hold a conversation at all. Food was mediocre but was large portions. The wine list was very good, a lot of choices especially with local wines. The pumpkin pie was very tasty. Probably wouldn’t go back but happy we did go and experience the restaurant.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at this extremely popular and BUSY restaurant. Our server seemed like she was the only one waiting tables however the reception and bartender helped. She, Fox was great in her promptness and great mood. They were out of the Corn beef and cabbage special however everything we ordered was great. I had the Half and half- turkey and ham with stuffing, mashed potatoes and sides plus we shared the soup of the day turkey chili. My husband had the turkey enchilada. An irish coffee was enjoyed too.

Nice atmosphere like one finds in East Coast cities with all the dark wood and almost elegant throwback style, right down to the waitresses in dark slacks, vests, and long white aprons from the waist almost to the floor. Excellent service. We both read different expectations into our orders, so we were modestly disappointed in what we had, despite both items being "good." The coleslaw was particularly good. We've had meat & brie sandwiches half a dozen other places and they were always warm with melted brie and solid slabs of whatever the meat was. This turkey & brie sandwich was more of a mooshey turkey salad. And not particularly special, although had my wife been expecting that, it is likely she'd have enjoyed it more. Likewise, my burger patty was good, but overall the sandwich was dry until I garnished it with coleslaw and asked for mustard. We opted out on the famous Spanish Coffee as it seemed a serious calorie bomb, but it was certainly entertaining to watch them being theatrically assembled at neighboring tables.

Portland’s oldest restaurant. A hidden entrance next door to a barbershop leads you to a unique architectural and culinary experience. A three vaulted Art Deco glass ceiling and long mahogany bar makes the visit worthwhile before you’ve even sat down. Do make sure to reserve as this is an exceptionally popular restaurant and bar. The welcome received from the staff, and the food and drink offered are exceptionally high. Do not miss the Spanish Coffee which is the signature drink poured with great aplomb by the barstaff. If you are coming to Portland do not miss Hubert’s!

We’ve been going here consistently since the 1980s, first for the late night Spanish Coffees and now for the turkey dinners (and the Spanish Coffees too). Same owners after all of this time, a rarity in the PDX hospitality business. Great old-school ambiance.

We went to Huber's at 3 p.m. so maybe our mediocre experience was because it was after lunch and before dinner. We heard so much about the turkey dinner so that's what we ordered. The turkey had a very nice flavor, but it was lukewarm and the mashed potatoes were cold and pasty. We had to ask for bread even though it was listed as coming with the dinner-it didn't seem fresh to us. The waiter didn't seem too concerned about our service, even though he was not busy-it was almost empty.

I visited here alone at night and ordered only one dish but staffs were so kind. I enjoyed enchilada, it was quite hot but tasted good. I went there during happy hour so the price was affordable. I recommend!

We came on the reputation: Portland's oldest restaurant, birthplace of the Spanish coffee, known for turkey sandwiches. We arrived about 8:30 on a Sunday evening after an active day, looking for a comfortable dinner. We got a booth in the back dining area, a high-ceilinged room with an impressive bar. My wife had a steak; I opted for the ham/turkey combo. We had plenty of time to appreciate how the staff work with and around one another, as we sat near the bottleneck outside the kitchen door. The service came in bursts: we'd receive excellent attention for three minutes, after which we would be invisible for ten. The food is straightforward and plentiful. The steak fell short on both flavor and tenderness; my ham was quite fatty. The mashed potatoes were *better* than home-made, and the vegetable side almost made up for the meats. We took home enough for another meal -- which somewhat alleviated the expense of the steak dinner. Despite the good points, we won't be back: the noise level prevents this from being "fine dining", or even "relaxed dining". For some reason, any acoustic baffles seem to have been altered or removed, and the room shares every clink of silverware, every touch of dishes, two or three times. This prevents the restaurant from being usable for any couples event, family gathering, or comparable outing. From what I've read, their target audience was originally businessmen in need of a an uncomplicated lunch or supper; I'm happy to leave it to them. Portland has enough places that do meet our dining criteria.

The service and food were good. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We were lucky to get a booth on NY Eve to celebrate a birthday. A nice time and atmosphere.

I am visiting the oldest bar in each State. #34 for me. I went to the back seating area. I got their special of turkey wings, Homemade mashed pot. & gravy, sage dressing. Everything was very good. $8. Then I had to try the cheesecake. It was not disappointing, good as the meal. There are pics all over the place showing you the history of the place. Going back into the med 1800 and to today, to have only 3 family ownership is amazing. Owner did make rounds and we chatted a bit. Very neat place. After I did my order and read their history, I should have ordered a turkey sandwich!

Used to live in Portland area and felt great enjoying a Spanish coffee here...we had the roasted turkey dinner and it hit the spot! The service was great.

I went with some friends to have dinner at this restaurant. They had a happy hour. We ordered some drinks and the soup of the day. It was very good! As a main dish we ordered the salmon. It was delicious! The waitress in charge of our table was excellent! She passed by the table from time to time and asked us if we needed something . She was very good at explaining us any question we had about the menu

Had a fantastic meal at HUBER’s tonight. Love the history of the restaurants. Had a Mojito they made it right. The salmon was fantastically cut. The shrimp fettuccine was out of this world. Service was friendly and quick. You don’t get here often but we always enjoy it when we do.

It was our "date" night and the service and food was excellent. Great atmosphere. We were pleased with the food and drink recommendations our waiter provided. We tried five or six appetizers and each one was better than the last.

We visited for lunch yesterday. Definitely busy on a Friday afternoon: make a reservation. The old dining area is lovely, with the pillars and arches and vaults. Service was quick and friendly.. Of course we ordered the Spanish coffee. The waiter did the whole show, mixing the drinks and lighting the match without burning himself. Impressive. The food was simple, good and reasonably priced. But I will not be back. The noise level was almost unbearable. Sounds and voices bounced off of every hard surface to the point where I had to text my family At The Same Table! to have any sort of conversation. It was a relief to exit to the street and the manageable sounds of traffic noise.

Booked this restaurant for our first night in Portland based on online reviews and we were not disappointed. Cannot fault any aspect of this fine establishment but most importantly, the food was excellent. Do not hesitate, visit today.

Thanksgiving meal a specialty. Two of us had it. Very great turkey. Mashed potatoes excellent. Stuffing not my favorite. Good choices with wine.

Glad we followed the advice of fellow reviewers and went here for dinner. We walked from our hotel, and when we stepped inside the front door, received an exceptionally warm welcome from the host. He walked us through the first part of the restaurant back to the gorgeous dining room/bar in the back. What a cool room! Fox was our server and she did a fantastic job! My husband had Chicken Marsala and enjoyed it, but I think he was a little jealous of my Turkey Dinner. It was perfect, just like my Dad used to make. Everything tasted homemade and just right. After dinner, we went to the bar, where we met John, who has worked there forever. He made us a Stinger, but he used green instead of clear Cream de Menthe. He wanted to re-do it, but we said no thanks. Enjoyed talking with John and the ambiance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place when you're in Portland!

Turkey dinner and Spanish coffee at Huber’s was the highlight of a week of dining in Portland. Superb service. Beautiful historic decor.

Fabulous piece of old Portland. Stained glass, open since 1879. Spanish coffee is a must. A production with a delicious result. They are known for their turkey but have great seafood and other offerings. Excellent service.

Stopped in for lunch on a Monday, arriving towards the end of the lunch rush… they were still busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server (who was also the bartender) was great and very helpful. He also was very talented making the Spanish coffee drink they’re noted for, which is definitely a show!! Having never been here before, we didn’t know what they were known for, but came in due to all the very positive reviews. Turns out this is the oldest restaurant and bar in Portland and they’re known for turkey! They do turkey in many different ways and they do an excellent job with it! I tried their turkey enchilada soup and it was very tasty, with a little spicy kick to it. My entrée was their open-face turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and their sage stuffing. The stuffing was perfectly moist and flavorful! The turkey was all excellent, moist (not dry at all) and very flavorful!!! The gravy on top was also great… In all, this was an excellent turkey meal… it’s like experiencing a tasty Thanksgiving for lunch in May! Even their cranberry sauce (which I normally don’t like) was great, as it had orange in it to help with the normal bitterness of the cranberries. Highly recommend stopping in here for a historic visit to a great joint for lunch or dinner!

We called in about a week ago and made reservations for the 22nd of December. We drove over from Tillamook and showed up early to check in and they informed us that the person we spoke to didn't enter our reservation into the system and there wasn't anything they could do for us. We have been coming here for years and it has apparently gone down hill since our last visit. So sad to see such an iconic Portland fixture be ran by such incompetence. I can't speak for the food, but the service is severely lacking. Get your act together!

A first visit to Portland and a desire for a quality meal with quiet ambiance. Found both at Hubers. Really good food, priced well and wonderful friendly service. Highly recommend. A “ for sure” on our next visit to Portland.

Our dinner club recently dined at Huber’s. It was a Sunday evening with lots going on downtown so we parked in a nearby parking structure and walked a short couple of blocks. Our group of 10 were easily accommodated in the back room near the bar area. It was cozy and quiet when we arrived but as more folks came the noise level grew. The decor is from 1880’s and easily transports you back into a more simpler time. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The beer bread was sweet and good. Our food did take a bit longer than expected to be served. I had the cioppino which was delicious! Crab cakes were a hit too and of course those that had the Turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing were all in heaven!! The Bison Burger didn’t get high marks from our group but the smoked salmon appetizer was liked by those who tried it! When craving turkey and nostalgia we will return!!

There is something a bit special about a place that does something so well that it becomes an historic staple. When you reach an age where you don’t think a Turkey dinner can surprise you, I recommend a visit to Huber’s. The cook great turkey dinners, possibly better than anyone even your grandma. On top of that they can cook a vegetarian option so good that it rates as one of our veggie friend’s best ever meals. Hard to beat good food cooked so well and served by great staff. Heartily recommend this place.

I couldn't pass up the chance to esr at Portland's oldest restaursnt so went to Huber's for dinner tonight. It was fairly busy but the waitress was attentive and friendly. The menu is pretty extensive, I went for the "half and half" turkey & ham dinner. They serve a slice of beer bread first. It tasted more like Madeira cake, not that that's any bad thing. The turkey & ham were nice enough, very thickly cut and smothered in a rich gravy. The stuffing & mash were definitely the highlights though. My only regret is not trying the Spanish coffee .

Always reliable, and always busy, Huber's churns out delicious turkey, ham and other dishes in a beautiful setting...that frankly could use a shine-and-polish. The woodwork's a bit grubby, and things just look like they'd benefit from a week-long closure once the summer rush is over. That said, the service is fine, the food is good, and a flaming Spanish coffee makes everything better. Huber's should be on your list, as a visitor or a local.

This is Portland's oldest restaurant since 1879. It's beautiful inside. My wife had the Beast Burger, and I had the Roast Turkey Leg. Both were delicious. Excellent service as well. Highly recommend this restaurant.

.....and was NOT disappointed!!!! The bar area is wonderfully atmospheric and the bartender the best I've ever seen. The Spanish Coffee is a MUST HAVE.

This is my go to restaurant when I am in town and my favorite place to take visitors. Their Spanish Coffee is worth the visit alone. Beautiful old bar and the best turkey dinner ever. It can get a little noisy at time so try to get a booth if possible.

Was in Portland for business and had heard about Huber’s. We decided to give it a try and see a little of downtown Portland. We parked in the parking garage about a block away and walked over. We walked in the front and noticed that there were a good number of families seated there. The hostess told us that there was another dining area in the back that we might like better. The back was a better choice. There was a little show going on with the gentleman who makes their signature Spanish Coffee. We did not have one, which was almost $12.00, but the preparation at the table next to us was interesting to watch. For dinner I ordered the salmon with vegetables (broccoli) and mashed potatoes. We had to ask for some of the beer bread, which I had never had before. It was interesting and actually looked kind of like pound cake. It did taste a little like beer, but the butter served with it was cold and hard. My entree arrived and it looked like a good sized portion of salmon along with the mashed potatoes and broccoli. The salmon had a large piece of herbed butter on top. Again the butter was hard and cold...not ideal. The mashed potatoes were good and the broccoli was cooked properly. The salmon looked good, but it was a little under cooked. It could have been cooked about 1 minute more. For dessert we split one of their bread puddings. It was a large portion, big enough to share. I am not a big bread pudding fan, but it was very good. Overall the food was just a little better than average. It looks like this is more of a touristy kind of place because the decor is interesting and Huber’s is billed as “Portlands oldest restaurant.” Go for the old world experience, but there are better dining options in Portland.

Was with a friend who was craving for a Spanish coffee after dinner. We arrived at Huber’s at around 10:30pm. The place was packed and vibrant. It is so much fun to watch them prepare the Spanish coffee and they taste great. Glad we had the chance to go and enjoy this delicious treat ! Don’t miss this opportunity !!

This is a very old unique restaurant. Great food selection and drink selection. We were seated right away for lunch. Lots of history to this place.

Thys place was one of the restaurants recommended by the Worldmark Wyndham Waterfront Park hotel, so we thought that we would try it. We both had the turkey dinner, which was quite good. I had a Porter and my wife had water. Wish we had the Spanis coffee. It looked both good and entertaining.

As a professional club house judge, I’d suggest a pass. The bread (white) was hard and felt stale. The service was average and the price for a three person family meal, average. That’s the best I can do.

Wife and I visited Saturday March 9th, we both ordered the Saturday three course turkey dinner! It was better than we expected! Spanish Coffee was good but more fun to watch them make it. We sat in the restaurant side, but next time we would love to sit in the bar area! Good food, good service, great value and old time charm! This place is a must if you have never been! It was our first but definitely not our last!

This was a nice enough restaurant, but there is much better dining in Portland. The turkey dinner was just a regular old turkey dinner, my steak was fine. The Spanish coffee was very good - I'd probably go again to visit the bar and get that, and to see the fun ceiling.

Oldest restaurant in Portland and well worth the visit. The fact that one day next week the restaurant is closed for a day to allow a crime TV series to use it for filming sums up the ambiance and historically well laid out intriguing character of the place. Oh and the food was wonderful also. My wife had the smoked salmon fettuccine and I had the mixed seafood pasta. The cocktails were delicious and included a classically made Negroni. We shared a banana flavoured cheesecake which was moreish and according to my wife a difficult ingredient to incorporate into a dessert.

Always a great time, food was excellent! But, of course, what I really go for are the SPANISH COFFEES! Both fun to drink and watch being made. Hubers never disappoints :)

This restaurant has a 100 year old history and really a neat place to visit and enjoy. We got their fish n chips and we’re very happy with our choice. I had an Arnie Palmer that was one of the best I’ve ever had👍👍 maybe they brewed their own tea?? Whatever they did was well worth it. I suggest you get there early, it gets busy.

Great ambience and it really is a step back in time. The dining room is wonderful and the staff were friendly and helpful. Huber’s food is delicious, we had the Turkey dinner and Chicken in Marsala sauce. The deserts are generous, we probably should have shared but hey we were on holiday!

Our uber driver recommended Huber’s and we are so glad he did. What a beautiful place. The food was great and such generous portions. Don’t miss the Spanish coffee!

After arriving in Portland for a 5 night stay, we headed straight to Huber's for dinner and drinks. The bar is beautiful. The panko-breaded fish and chips are top notch. Such a delightful experience that we returned on our last night with a local friend who had never been to Huber's. And we had a great time again! A local treat not to be missed.

As the oldest restaurant in Portland Huber’s is kind of a must. I forgot how much I enjoy Huber’s until I took my kids after a 25 year hiatus. The atmosphere in the historic section takes you back in history. The stained glass skylight and dark wood enhance the experience. Huber’s is known for turkey dinners and Spanish coffee. There is nothing out of the ordinary here. Just good solid food. But the mesmerizing performance of the waiters who pour the Spanish coffees... that is something to see. I understand that Huber’s is one of the largest users of Kahlua in the nation. That is a lot of Spanish coffees. The desserts are also delish. My favorite is the chocolate mousse. I recommend coming even if it is just for dessert and a Spanish coffee.

We had a late lunch here last Saturday after biking in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Food carts across the street starkly contrasted with this air conditioned, polished brass, and mahogany-paneled sit-down restaurant. I had a turkey, cranberry, and cream cheese sandwich while my husband made the better choice of fried oysters complete with broccoli and rice pilaf for about the same price. Lovely lunch regardless.

Service was excellent, server was friendly and attentive to our needs. Dinner was delicious. Beer bread was a surprise treat. After dinner drinks were spectacular, especially watching the preparation, Great show. Definitely will highly recommend.

Really good food with a really good choice of food and drink. Waiter was really professional and help us. A really good adress in Portland

Stopped in for a late night drink with some local friends. I’d never heard of, let alone had a Spanish Coffee...until now. The presentation/preparation is half the enjoyment. Flaming alcohol (reminded me of drinking absinthe that had been lit aflame in a bar in Prague) and acrobatic movements added to the uniqueness of this drink. As for the taste - very good! Too good as the after effects didn’t hit me until much later. Needless to say, I was not in the best shape the following morning. Totally worth it! The back room and bar in Huber’s is a real throwback to another era - lovely decor and a professional and welcoming staff.

As a colleague noted, this place had a Cheers vibe. Better than that, the food and service were perfect. Turkey is one of their big things, and the turkey, cream cheese, and cranberry sandwich was awesome. Apparently this is one of the oldest places in Portland, and the music and look of the place feed right into the aura of the past. A must stop for a visit to Portland.

This place is known for it's turkey (and ham) dinners. The food was very good and the place was very busy. It was a cold day and my friend ordered the Spanish coffee and loved the show and the drink. The turkey and ham were both good and so were the sides. The hazelnut butter on the yams was a great addition.

We were seated quickly and server was attentive. Despite the heat, we ordered the famous Spanish coffees that were prepared with traditional flourish. Partner and I had ordered the 3 course meal which came with soup, half ham/half turkey dinner and dessert (pumpkin pie). This is a serious amount of food! While I had an even split of ham/turkey, partner said he didn’t get much turkey. Still we were stuffed. Huber’s is a classic... just go hungry!

What a lovely cafe/restaurant! I found this restaurant by chance on my last day in Portland and what a find. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and helpful and the place simply divine. The owner came to say hi, the place has been in his family for generations and you could see why. If I’m ever back in Portland, this will be a definite revisit. Thank you for making us so welcome.

My Favorite Historical Restaurantin Portland. A Must Visit!! Best Spanish Coffee in the World!(not an exaggeration). Turkey and Ham Dinners Year around. Original Building with Curved Led Glass ceiling. Food service drinks are amazing

I decided to have a nice dinner at Huber's for a change, because I have heard it was a popular spot to eat in Downtown Portland. I was fascinated to see that it has been open since 1879. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly host. He was interested in how my day was, and that is always a pleasant first impression. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer, which were excellent. My entrée was the Chicken Picatta, for my family is Italian and that is a dish I commonly eat. The lemon sauce was outstanding. It had a unique, rich tang to it. The chicken itself was also delicious. I ordered the Apple Blackberry Cobbler for dessert, and that was the best part of my meal at Huber's. Honestly, I am astonished that a restaurant could be open for over 130 years and still thrive. I will certainly eat at Huber's again.

We have always gone there for their famous Spanish Coffees, yum! Then we started having some of their great desserts. From there we started having dinners. One year we got all the thanksgiving dinner fixings and took home. It all turned out very nice.

We had an enjoyable dinner at Huber's. My chicken Marsala was very tender and tasty, my wife also enjoyed her salad. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was good. Prices were in keeping with the standard of the food.

Hubers is a downtown classic. With that in mind, you should expect a place that caters to a crowd that has been coming in for 20-50 years. There is totally nothing wrong with that, just know before you go. The food is similar to an American chain restaurant (or Americas diner) and I don't really care for is beyond a thing or two on the happy hour menu. Enjoy your Spanish coffee and the show they put on making it!

I went to this place only to have the Spanish coffee and I had no idea that I was about to see a show!!!! our barman was soooo cute and professional The coffee is super strong ( of course) but it worth it phenomenal service! you have to try!!!!

Went into have the “Spanish Coffee Experience”. The waiter was fabulous, a true talent & so fun to time, not to mention, the coffee was amazing

we've been coming to hubers for yrs, and finally returned for lunch on saturday, masked up, outside at their tables....i had a corona, and my partner had the decaf spanish coffee.......next, i had the shrimp louie, and she had the penne primavera....everything was delicious and the staff was wonderful as always...we made a donation months ago to keep hubers open, as it's not a given it will be....the ambiance was nice and relaxing....people were out and about for mother's day wkend...be sure to tip big during these covid times...thx so much

Had a very nice evening here with friends. The food was very good, with a great selection of beers and wines. It was old fashioned inside, which made the character of the place even more inviting.

Back in Portland so I headed downtown to go back to Huber’s. I had been here last year and wanted to check it out again. Amazing! Had the Tom Turkey. I love it! The complimentary beer bread is a really good addition. Service was superlative! Can’t say enough good things. Would go back again in a heartbeat!

Don’t order any of the seafood, I tried and was so disappointed. We thought this would be a good compromise between both diners, but it wasn’t. I should have gone with the turkey, my daughter said the pasta was alright, nothing outstanding, but the preparation and flavor of the Spanish coffee was great.

This is one of our all time favorite restaurants! We’ve never had a bad meal and always have excellent service. Where else can you have Thanksgiving dinner all year round?

Huber's is the oldest restaurant in Portland, famous for their turkey dinners. We were seated in the "historical" section - an attractive, old school space. Many menu items looked good, but we both opted to try the "half and half" - turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, broccoli, cranberry sauce and beer bread. Everything was absolutely delicious! I never thought I would be so impressed by a turkey dinner, but this was the best. They are also known for Spanish Coffee, a flaming alcoholic concoction prepared tableside, which makes for a great show.

Loved this place. My stepson, who works in downtown Portland, travels everywhere on foot, and knows every spot in downtown., This is his favorite eatery. We were there for lunch, which I suspect is a lot less crowded than dinnertime. Excellent atmosphere, efficient service, decent food, reasonable prices. What more could you ask for? The only slight downside, if you have to park far away, is that the neighborhood is a bit sketchy.

My wife and I started going to Huber's when we first moved to Portland in the early 70's and it became the place to go for special nights out. We happened to be back in Portland for a visit and made a point of going to see if things had changed... It is still an amazing place! The service is top notch, you can have a conversation using normal voices, drinks are made with pride, nothing is rushed but well paced and the food as always is perfect, fresh and flavorful. Worth the 2500 mile trip!

Basically, Huber's is a home cooking restaurant. The menu, outside of the turkey, sounds like Sysco or Gordon Food Service, not fresh, seasonal or high quality. They only have one vegetable broccoli -- that's it. The drinks were OK but you don't get the more extensive wine list unless you ask. No bread nor an offer of coffee and dessert with my meal. The place was pretty empty. I was also disappointed that they seated me in the dark, empty dining room when the couple of other customers were taken to the bar. Also, for whatever reason, there are no tablecloths in the dining room, despite the faux upscale decor and somewhat high prices. You can definitely do better in Portland. I would go here for a drink and that's it. Nothing more.

I came for dinner with colleagues from work and was not disappointed. We visited on a Tuesday evening. We had made 6:30pm reservations just in case and it was good that we did as the restaurant was busy. I loved the old interior with all the wood detail and the glass ceiling. We were seated in the bar area and it was a tad noisy for most of our meal. The menu has a variety of food choices. I went with the fresh filet of salmon. It is served with steamed broccoli and mashed potato w/ melted butter. The fish was cooked to perfection. The broccoli had a very nice crunch to it and the mashed potato was very good. I ordered a St. Germain & Champagne drink which was exceptional. I also ordered the apple-blackberry cobbler for dessert. It comes a-la-mode. Again, very good. The cobbler is served warm and is topped with a breaded crust. I will definitely return when I next have reason to be in Portland. As a side note, this restaurant is in downtown Portland. While I would not consider the neighborhood as overly "sketchy" I always recommend being aware of your surroundings and don't allow yourself to be distracted by looking at an electronic device all the time. Because I was with two other workmates, I felt generally safe. Had I been on my own, I might have felt a little differently as our visit was after sunset. The restaurant is within close walking distance of all Max lines. For the red/blue lines, you get off at the 1st / Oak stop. For the green/yellow lines you get off at the 5th / Oak stop.

Ive been coming to Hubers since I was 21 but due to covid and live haven't visited in several years. Went on a super busy saturday night during the holiday season and couldn't believe that Hubers has not lost a step! Great drinks and the turkey dinner was as good as it was years ago. Excellent service and attention in a packed house. the Hostess was helpful and kind. We had no reservation but she asked a few patrons to scoot on over at the bar and got us 4 seats together at the bar. Also can I talk about Value. In an age where restaurants charge 16-18$ for a cocktail it was so refreshing to see Hubers with reasonable pricing on food and drinks. High quality food and drinks. Don't believe the hype about downtown Portland. Park in the lot across the street and enjoy Hubers! Order the Spanish coffee its a must!

Oldest eatery in Portland! Longtime waitstaff is friendly and has great suggestions. The turkey is absolutely delicious. Good Happy Hour menu. Going back today!

Oldest restaurant in Portland. Charming atmosphere and very friendly service. The clam chowder was outstanding. But the other food was not very good. Way too salty for one thing.

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel, and it was in walking distance. We made reservations before we left for 6:30. We arrived about 10 minutes early, and were told our table was not ready yet, but their was a couple that should be leaving soon. We told them we would wait outside a few minutes, as it was getting crowded in the check-in line. We saw through the windows they were clearing a table for 2, so we came back in after about 5 minutes outside - and they were going to give our table to 2 walk-ins that had been in the line directly behind us. We had to push our way toward the front and let them know WE had reservations. They said they were waiting for the other couple to finish up at another table - and we told them, no we would take the one available. The couple at that particular table were still there after we had ordered, finished up our dinner, and were ready to leave. Our order was mixed up, we did not get water refills all during dinner, and the staff were yelling at each other. Too bad - it appeared to be a nice restaurant, had the staff been better trained in customer service. By the way, the picture at the top is not indicative of the restaurant - it is a very small, dark little place. We probably won't return.

Before starting our walk along the Willamette River promenade, my wife and I wanted to get lunch. On Monday, a lot of restaurants in downtown Portland are closed, but Huber's was open. From the outside, the place is not impressive looking, but the inside looks like a classy speak-easy from the 1920s / 1930s. Even the waiters were dressed up! The place has a massive bar (see picture). Lunch itself was very impressive. My wife had the Ham & Swiss on Rye. First, there was a LOT of ham on the sandwich, and this wasn't your typical deli ham. Oh no, this was from a ham you would carve up for your family on Christmas or Easter. I had the hot turkey sandwich. Again, there was a LOT of fresh turkey on the sandwich, the type you would see on Thanksgiving. My sandwich also included very good dressing--no Stove Top here! Both sandwiches also included a decent sized side of fries. Lunch was a little expensive, about $40 with tip, but with the great quality and ambiance, the money was well spent. By far, this was one of the best lunches we have ever had, and I'm really happy we ate here.

Went with my wife and a dear friend. Had heard about Huber's from a TV coverage story. We got a booth in the bar and sat back and enjoyed every part of our eating adventure. I had the dual ham and turkey dish with mashed potatoes and it was exceptional. When the meal was over we all had a Spanish coffee, enjoying the manufacturing of it in front of us. It was YUMMY! I wish that the day had been brighter as we could have enjoyed the skylight stained glass ceiling. The staff is friendly and they offer many suggestions and are quite patient.

we returned to hubers with friends for lunch yesterday, as they hadn't been there.....masked up we sat in a booth....the masks came off and i had a heineken, and my partner had the decaf spanish coffee, plus the friends had a regular spanish coffee/diet coke.....next, we shared the shrimp louie, and my partner had the crab cakes too...our friends had the fish/chips and the turkey sandwich....for dessert, creme brulee and apple blackberry cobbler ala mode....the staff is the best....the performance of the spanish coffee is always fun, and everyone is so friendly and funny...the drinks/food are excellent....our friends loved the ambiance and decor, and will return with friends....we love coming to hubers...thx so much!

Dine under the arched stained glass ceilings and enjoy turn of the century bar-chitecture. Noisy when full. Staff is attentive, kitchen prompt. Enjoyed the turkey dinner (excepting the overpowering garlic broccoli). The salmon was fresh and superbly prepared. The pumpkin pie came with ice cream and whipped cream.

Ok, this restaurant is not in a bustling, hip area, but it's great value, terrific service, & quality food & portions. Mom had fish & chips & she's 89 & not easily pleased AND she was happy. I had pesto pasta with chicken & it was terrific. If you're not a big foodie this is the place, & it's historical too.

Huber's was one of the few Portland restaurants downtown that was open. Most of downtown Portland is still boarded up. At 50% capacity (COVID rules), the place seemed cavernous, but just as loud. Our server was helpful and prompt; and the food was as good as I remembered it. Highly recommended.

This place has been serving Turkey lunches and dinners since 1879! Their other entrees are yummy too!

Everything was going well until the waitress forgot to take our food order... food was great until we ordered the Spanish coffee.... and the guy spilled our coffee all over the table and cream all over my lap and seat... the coffee was really nice until we got our bill... and they did not even offer to reimburse us or give us a coupon for a free meal... until we pressed them... so they gave us one free coffee... Seriously?! I’m not sure what I did wrong to deserve such a terrible experience.

Hats off to the good people of Portland for such an attractive, entertaining and strange city. Huber's is a wonderful representation of Portland's combination of elegance and quirkiness. It's a traditional restaurant/bar with gorgeous dark wood, brass and tiled floors. The waiters wear smoking jackets like I imaged the 50's to be. If you come here you must order the Spanish coffee because of the production of making it. The waiter pours numerous alcohols into a fiery glass and whips them around with artistry. The production was merry and creative and the cocktail was yummy. We tried various first courses (shrimp cocktail, calamari, mussels, cheeseburger (thanks to Laura) and crab. They were all distinctive and heavenly Come here for inspiring drinks, food and a classic Portland experience.

Excellent food, service and ambiance. Reasonably priced. Went back the next night. We had the cioppino. Seasoned just right. Went back the next night for turkey.

9 friends ordered 8 different dinners- all were great! Spanish coffee is worth the show. Don’t let the neighborhood scare you off- this historic restaurant is worth it!

We went to Hubers with high hopes. We arrive at 6:15 for our reservation. They told us it would be 5 minutes for our table to be bused. So all in all things started off okay. We got seated and things went down hill fast. It took 20 minutes to get drinks and even longer to get our food ordered. It was 1.5 hours later when the waitress came back and told one our our party that the food she order was gone. Water at the table ran out multiple times. Our drink orders were either forgotten or wrong. There were a fruit fly one one our parties coke. Our salad's arrived and 2 of them were wrong. After 2.5 hours our food got there and again orders were wrong. The turkey dinner was very bland and needed salt, One of the turkey dinners did not come with gravy and when we asked it was forgotten. We had to ask 2 times before we got it. The rest of the meals were okay but we expected more for $40 a plate. We did get a free dessert per couple. The waitress said and I quote "I know the evening did not turn out as you had hoped." The Spanish coffee was a nice show and was good. Overall the food was okay but the service was beyond terrible!

Upon arrival I was disappointed when a walk in was given the last booth available leaving us a weirdly placed 2 top (in front of a large partly against the wall) when we had a reservation. They did allow us to select a different table but it was already a slight disappointment. Service was adequate. Food was average at best. I ordered the turkey dinner. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were better than the turkey which was smothered with gravy and still was dry. The chowder soup was good and the fillet was okay (overcooked). Overall the most exciting thing in the place was the bartender creating flaming coffee drinks around the place. The history of the place was left to Google as none of it was shared from the staff. The only thing I would consider is they have a daily happy hour (which we missed) to get us to return.

Billed as Portland's oldest restaurant, Huber's is a must-try. Extremely busy on Saturday nights, you definitely want to make reservations, the day before. Hubers is known for their Spanish Coffee's, Turkey legs and great architecture (that may or may not be in various states of decay). They also have an in-house magician, who is actually pretty good. They start you out with soda bread w/ a slab of butter. They actually have a great selection of spirits. I ordered the half & half (Turkey and ham), with mash potatoes and gravy, which was very good. Beware, the cranberry sauce has orange in it. The overall experience was very pleasant. I definitely would recommend it.

Stopped in for lunch because it was close to our hotel. The decor is amazing, the drinks are special. I wish I would have ordered a Spanish coffee made tableside. I had lentil soup and smoked salmon with cream cheese appetizer, my partner had the turkey sandwich. If you’re in downtown Portland Che k this place out.

I went with a group on a Saturday night, and while the cafe has a wonderful time capsule feel it is _VERY_ popular on Saturday during the dinner hour (most younger adults) the party is in the bar area with the greater cluster of arched lighting) and it was very merry and quiet loud, the restaurant seating is a bit quieter buy you do have to speak rater loudly for the table to hear. So, if you want to enjoy the historic ambiance I would check with the cafe for quieter times if you want to have relaxed conversation. The food was fine, old fashioned (but not in a bad way) but that was not really why we were there. Service was good, if sometimes a bit uneven.

Dark wood and stained glass ambience. The menu is large and the food is good and filling. Lots of comfort food including a traditional Thanksgiving dinner everyday (turkey, gravy, potatoes, stuffing...). Not gourmet but very satisfying. Worth a visit for a change of pace to an earlier time setting and menu.

My wife and I went for dinner here, which is billed as Portland's oldest restaurant, and which is known for its drinks and turkey dinners. I had a tasty turkey enchilada with Spanish rice and beans. The dish was filling and tasty. The signature drink here is the Spanish Coffee, a flaming cocktailprepared tableside with a theatrical flair. While we did not have one, we saw several being prepared and enjoyed the show.

The Spanish coffee is a must! Great presentation and awesome drink! You have to have it hot! The overall experience was great and the service was awesome!

Was in town for Christmas and met family for a holiday Huber’s lunch. We all started with Spanish coffees that were perfect! Then had delicious turkey sandwiches all around the table. Made it an easy ticket for our server. Six identical orders. Haha. Was a fantastic lunch and can’t wait to come back again on my next visit.

Read about Huber's as the oldest Portland restaurant during a business trip last week. It was right around the corner so walked there about 5:00 pm w/o a reservation. Got a table for two w/o trouble--plenty of space but just after being seated, more groups came in who were quite loud (something we noticed during all our meal outings in Portland). We asked to re-locate to one of the two seat alcove tables by the bar and though it was reserved for a couple arriving in 1.5 hours, they reseated us. Server was very good without being too attentive, or inattentive. Frozen cocktails were so-so. We both had roast turkey and we both thought it was excellent and all portions (entre, sides) were plenty. Read about their Spanish Coffee but didn't know about their presentation/service; very entertaining and very good though maybe a little strong on the Kahlua. Would re-visit and recommend it to others.

Stopped for lunch and were so pleased we did. Loved the traditional atmosphere and just enjoyed the ambiance. Not stuffy, but relaxing! We were hoping for seafood and were not disappointed. Clam chowder and a Seafood salad were both great. Marionberry sorbet was the perfect finish. Really a very nice experience .

We have both wanted to go to Huber's Restaurant for a long time due to the many online reviews and it's great reputation throughout the many years. I had also experienced the food from Huber"s at a company holiday luncheon several years ago. I made online reservations for early evening dinner and we went to the restaurant and were promptly seated. However where we were seated was not very desirable as it was right next to the bar where there was several loud intoxicated individuals. We asked for another table and were seated a little further away from the loud drunks at the bar. It seems like the front of the restaurant where the entrance and bar is located is not the best place to be seated, especially if there are drunk people sitting at the bar. We started the meal with a crab cake appetizer and a cup of clam chowder along with a slice of beer batter bread all being very tasty. We then ordered the "half and half" dinner, which was turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and broccoli. There was also a small cup of ham glaze and another cup of cranberry sauce, again both tasty. We both finished the meal and ended up asking for a doggy bag to take the rest home. Here is where the service went downhill. First, I had ordered an ice tea for my drink but was not asked once if I needed a refill. After getting our to go boxes, the check was brought to our table without one word from the waitress as to whether we wanted any dessert or anything else. Because this place is known for its Spanish Coffee and the show that is put on while these are being made, we had to call over the waitress and ask her if we could get one. We got the sneaking suspicion that she forgot to put in our Spanish coffee order in as numerous tables around us got Spanish coffee drinks except us. After watching this for a few minutes, we called her over and cancelled the Spanish Coffee order. Our experience should by no means deter anyone from experiencing the great food at this restaurant. However the next time we eat decide to eat at this restaurant, we will request a different table at or near the back area of the restaurant. I would have expected better service at this restaurant given its reputation but personally felt that this part of the Huber's dining experience fell short of my expectations.

The food was very good and our server was very friendly and attentive. I had the 1/2 & 1/2 dinner. baked ham and roasted turkey with homemade mashed potatoes and broccoli. It was VERY good.

I ate dinner here while staying in Portland. The chicken fettuccini Alfredo was amazing. The service was great. I would recommend a reservation.

Wow! From the first steps through the door, you realize that you are walking through a well established restaurant. The green tile in the open kitchen, to the stained glass ceiling in the bar area. If you want to be a part of history this is the place. Spanish coffee - well it’s an incredible show and will you will be asking for a second one! The turkey is mouth watering and super moist, mom can’t make a better turkey dinner (she would kill me if she read this)! Over all a great 5 star experience.

Cool old dining room and generous portions. I had the special catch of the day (sole fish) and it was very good. The steamed broccoli was exceptional and everyone in my group agreed. The spanish coffee was good and interesting to watch made right at our table. I read some negative reviews about service, but found it to be decent.

Chowder, glazed ham and beer: simply classic. Plus a wonderful ambience and very friendly service. This classic Portland restaurant completely lived up to my expectations.

yesterday we cycled down in brisk weather to hubers for lunch, and sat at the bar, as it was packed....this is our favorite restaurant in portland and have been coming here since the 1980's..we were masked up til we had our drinks.......the bartender is fabulous, we have had him before outdoors during covid in 2021.....i ordered a heineken, and my partner had a decaf spanish coffee....the bartender put on a performance as is the tradition at hubers, and it was so exciting again....next, we shared a bowl of clam chowder, spinach salad with by shrimp, and crab cakes......we loved everything, and the place was festive and busy..it is some of most delicious food we've had......we chatted with the bartender from time to time, who is the nicest guy....we will always love hubers, and have many memories over the yrs with family visiting, post work gatherings, thanksgiving, and just the two of us for some quiet time in a gorgeous setting for lunch....the history of hubers, and focus on preservation is the best....thx so much!!!!!!....

Every year we reserve the back booth in Hubers bar for a holiday gathering for our family but our reservations mean nothing to Huber's. I reserved the back booth in the bar a month ago for 12 people. I called 2 weeks ahead to double confirm our reservations and then again the day before our visit. I even spoke with a manager who confirmed our reservation at this back table. We arrived on time and were told that our table had been given to another party. I can't even begin to tell you how upset and disappointed we all were. This is not the first time...it's the 3rd time and LAST time! We will not be holding our annual party here again. The hostess was extremely rude to us (and other patrons too). It's just not the same place it used to be...Our waiter was good and apologetic and we know this wasn't his fault. Just sad that they don't stick to their word. If they don't honor reservations, they should be upfront and honest about it.

This place has the best Caesar salad I have found in the area. Service can be slower but the food is good.

We loved this place! Great atmosphere, delicious food, friendly wait staff and don’t forget the Spanish coffee drink to tip off your meal!

Huber's is one of those restaurants that has withstood the test of time and changing dining habits. The menu, alcohol, and service have remained constant over the years. The restaurant represents a bygone age when elegant, yet non-pretentious dining was the norm rather than an exception. It is not a restaurant for a quick turn around, and deserves time to appreciate the meals, atmosphere, service, and experience. We have never had a disappoint dish or cocktail at Huber's, and the service is always exemplary. The dining menu is varied and yet it provides an excellent choice of vintage options, as would be found in a steak-seafood house up until the mid-1980s. A full bar and very capable bartenders provide more than adequate cocktail service. Wait staff are friendly, professional and helpful in your navigation of the menu items for consideration. The only real drawback I have is the crowded entry way, distant and locked restrooms, and the dated decor. The seating is not always comfortable and the dining area can be noisy on busy nights. Parking can also be a challenge, and the location has seen better days. That being said, we will continue to go to Huber's for the food, atmosphere, cocktails, and service when we want a classic dining experience in Portland.

What a fun place! One side a restaurant the other side a bar! Great crazy drinks and apps at the bar or large table area.

Went for dinner on a Saturday evening. Cocktails were good but server confused two of the four. Crab cakes good but not great. Pot pie excellent. Great salad entree. Club was excellent but so thick hard to eat. Artichoke dip bean soup great starters. The real deal was the Spanish coffee. Our preparer has been pouring them for 39 years. Well worth the price.

I’m glad we were able to get a reservation to Huber’s they have quite a reputation as the oldest restaurant inPortland. Beautiful old wood paneled restaurant and bar. The brass cash register sparkled and the clock was pretty cool, actually the whole place was! The menu looked great it was hard to choose. The waitress pointed out a happy hour menu that had smaller portions of turkey enchiladas & a $7 Turkey sandwich which I chose. My husband ordered a beast burger with fries which he enjoyed. Everything was delicious and the staff was really on point. The main show was the Spanish coffee cart and the barista that presented the firey drink. We shared a decaf with 151 rum and Kahlúa, it was really special. Memorable & affordable evening and we would highly recommend

Returned after a long absence and were seated promptly with reservations. Food and service as always excellent. Traditional American food and Service is consistently good as it always has been. The atmosphere is wonderful. Turkey dinner is the best choice but there are many other good menu choices. One of our party tried the Cobb Salad, loaded with nice turkey slices. A complete meal in itself. The old time saloon and is very reminiscent of a time gone by with original fixtures and decorations from the famed Portland's Oldest restaurant. Consistently excellent traditional Americana with experienced old-time servers. The only negative is the location in a run-down part of old Portland. But that is due to the horrible neglect of the City leadership. This restaurant was here long before the present generation of city detractors. This restaurant is a treasure and should be part of historical preservation.

we cycled down to hubers for lunch after checking out the cherry blossoms on the waterfront....we sat at the bar....i had a heineken and my partner had a decaf spanish coffee....the bartender's expertise was great as always....next, we shared both the bay shrimp cole slaw, and the bay shrimp louie....he gave us free bier/beer bread too....the drinks/food is excellent as always....we love coming here....i've been coming here since the eighties....the historical clock, cash register, telephone, skylights, and more add so much to the ambiance....the rest of the staff is great too....thx so much once again.....

One of the oldest restaurants in Portland in one of the oldest buildings in Portland and the decor shows it. Old cash register, wood bar and other decor that gives its age away. But the service and food is very good. Had their hamburger which was very good. They are known for their Spanish Coffee and the presentation of the barista preparing it is worth the price of admission. Also very good tasting. Definite go to place in Portland.

We have been coming to Huber’s for the last 30 years and all I can say is this is the real deal, down to earth yet upscale old Portland classic. There is no other place like this and I encourage every sing visitor to Portland to experience Huber’s. Not many places anymore that you can get good old fashioned comfort food like roasted turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy, or beef stroganoff. This place has an amazing bar with hand crafted cocktails not to mention their incredibly famous Spanish Coffees.. All this and without even breaking the bank. Yes Yes Yes take me to Huber’s anytime and I’ll be the happiest ever!

So happy that we came across this recommended restaurant on TripAdvisor, that was also raved about by our hotel's bartender. We ordered the delicious Half and Half for dinner with the famous Spanish Coffee and pumpkin pie for dessert. It was like Thanksgiving in July! Anyone visiting Portland should definitely stop by this gem.

In June it may be difficult to think of Thanksgiving dinner but say "yes" to the traditional turkey dinner at Huber's, whatever the month. The meal was perfectly prepared at a very reasonable price. This is the oldest restaurant in Portland and the stained glass ceiling and rich wood paneling are elegant.

Great staff, home cooked food and ambience. We are British and I have to say that the food we had was just like home cooked Tuesday night. Very tasty. Staff were efficient and friendly and the barman was great entertainment! Amazing cocktail making.

Huber’s is Portland’s oldest restaurant and has been in business since 1879. My friend and I went there for dinner and it was wonderful. A very beautiful restaurant inside and the wait staff were very attentive. Huber’s is famous for their turkey and stuffing which my friend ordered. I couldn’t resist the fried oyster dinner which I ordered. The food was well prepared and generous portions. Their prices were quite reasonable. We also ordered cocktails and a bottle of wine. The Martini that ordered was excellent. I would definitely return to this restaurant again.

My friends and I went here for our "fancy" dinner out while on our Oregon/Washington trip. Oh my WORD! This place is CRAZY amazing good! I had the filet (medium rare) with a demiglace sauce and gorgonzola cheese. It was absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY and practically melted in my mouth. The potatoes I had for a side was excellent. The cocktails were spot on amazing. And the dessert was absolutely divine (I had the bread pudding). Also, our waitress and all the staff we encountered were wonderful and so friendly. If you are in Portland, this place is a MUST.

We loved everything about our dining experience at Huber's Cafe! It was within walking distance from our hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive. We liked the atmosphere. We both enjoyed our dinner. My husband got the Beast Burger, and a bowl of clam chowder soup, and i got the shrimp with rice and broccoli. We also got the Tiramisu for dessert; that was not the best Tiramisu i've had though. Prices were reasonable.

founded 140 years ago in 1879, Huber's is like going back in time. Their menu is simple but reasonably priced and tasty. If you are a coffee drinker their flaming Spanish Coffee is worth the visit on presentation alone. They are known for their Turkey dinners .the desserts the wife and I had were wnonderful

their turkey dinner just is delightful....they are the oldest restaurant in Portland. The service and ambiance are excellent.

My wife and I wanted a break from the Saturday night street action near the market and decided on a favorite - Huber's for their late night happy hour. Of course, tourists and locals with family enjoyed the famous high-pour Irish coffees (we did one too- decaf) and were told the two drink artists had 32/38 years on the floor. The evening was capped with a conversation with the very pleasant host, a Paul Childers, a real gentleman with an extraordinary history in the food and beverage business. .

Good food, friendly people, and a great atmosphere. Best for an easy relaxing lunch or dinner. Not too suitable for kids.

It was my first trip to Portland. Came in through the back of the restaurant where it’s next to a hotel. They were busy but was able to sit us at a tiny table. People’s voices sounded much louder because the way it was built. So we had to talk Louder too( be careful not to shout when everyone stops talking. Lol) it was very interesting to see that they hang a Chinese man’s picture in the center of the restaurant. Food portion is relatively smaller than the other places I’ve been. We had to get a slice of pizza after our meal...my main disappointment is they overdone the sand in my pasta...maybe I should ask for only one piece next time. I learn the hard lesson to run the clams with my tongue before biting into it( I know it sounds gross but it’s better than biting on a big piece of sand). The pasta and the sauce was good. Just be careful when you order clams from them.

Went for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was not busy. Wait staff may have taken their lunch break during our visit. We did not get the beer bread to try, waitress didn't bring. We had the Clam chowder, cole slaw and thanksgiving platter and all were good. Nice chardonay served, but overpriced.
Historical restaurant and bar
While vising Portland, my hubby really wanted to have the special cocktail at Huber’s Cafe, the oldest restaurant and bar, in Portland. Once you enter, it is a whole different world in here. Gorgeous with stained glass ceiling and artistic arches. We made sure to have a reservation in case it was super busy, but it was not too busy when we arrived. For drinks, my hubby ordered the famous Spanish Coffee cocktail, and I ordered Ginger Nectar. The Ginger Nectar came in a large glass with a sugar rim. It was nice and orange-y, sweet without being too sweet. I liked how it was fruity and tropical, really enjoyed it. What makes Spanish Coffee so special is not for its looks nor flavor (although really tasty), but how it is prepared. A bartender will come to your table, and prepare this drink and such dramatic way at tableside! Our bartender was funny and very skilled in my opinion. He did a few dramatic pours of different liquors, it was so entertaining! It is flamed tableside (yes!!) and topped with fresh whipped cream and nutmeg. We ordered some small plates from the Happy Hour menu. Turkey Enchilada was meaty with lots of shredded turkey meat. Small Caesar Salad was fresh and had an ample amount of parmesan cheese. Calamari Frita didn’t have as many calamari on the plate as I thought, but they were nice and crisp without being oily. A bit heavy on salt though. Overall, they were a-ok. In addition to Happy Hour dishes, we ordered one main dish. We went with Half and Half, a combination of roasted turkey and baked ham served with dressing, mashed potatoes or baked yams, gravy, and cranberry sauce. It was like a Thanksgiving meal in June! We had a fun experience here. Staffs were friendly and polite. Happy Hour prices were very affordable. The food were good, not great, but good. Loved the atmosphere.
