Amazing time thanks to Terri the bartender

By Matt M |

Second time staying in at the Godfrey and have had Terri as our bartender each time. Every time we sit down, we feel like regulars. Her suggestions have been spot on for places to go. Highly recommend coming and sitting at her bar and experience the right way to see Chicago.

Outside in February

40 degree plus and sitting outside at the best outside bar! Drinks are great. They even have igloos. Fire pits. Lights. Romantic too.

TRENDY HIP HAPPENING OUTSIDE PATIO! UNWIND WITH MUSIC & CHICAGO SKYLINE BACKDROP

By 111familyman111 |

4th Floor of Godfrey Hotel is I/O. Unique hip eclectic setting with outside bar and patio seating areas on either side of bar where 2 gorgeous mini skirted model'esk cocktail servers strut and prance your drinks from the bar to your table. Setting is relaxed and open to the Chicago skyline nice place to unwind in city. Appears The very loud Hip Hop music keeps the older croud at bay. 4 business associates and I had cocktails and appetizers before a dinner. The male consensus is that the sliders were the best food option appetizer on menu. If you are into the young and hip happening crowd, like to unwind take in the view of city or the model cocktail waitress, this is the place for you. Appropriately priced drinks and Apps for the venue.

Great happy hour deals

By Amy L |

The tuna maki and the sliders are amazing. Great value for money during happy hour (3-6 Mon- Fri). The views are spectacular, and the service was great. Can’t wait to go back here in the summer.

This is an amazing venue

By Vincent G |

I took my girlfriend here for brunch on her bday. The view and the experience was amazing. All of the servers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I will definitely be back.

Amazing service and setting

By Peter G |

The bar at the Godfrey is one of my favorite hidden spots in Chicago. Great service, and is quintessential summertime Chicago. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Awesome skyline view of downtown Chicago

By Lina L |

Beautiful roofscape bar on the 4th floor of the Godfrey hotel in downtown Chicago. Our bartender and mixoligist Terri was friendly, knowledgeable and plain fun. I went the safe route with my usual Cosmo and my hubby got the Manhattan Godfrey. Both perfectly mixed and balanced. We had a beautiful afternoon and the roofscape was fully open. The view, the temperature and ambience were great. We met other couples from out of town and had a great time. I wish we had stayed and ordered lunch.

Would go back in a hearbeat

By littlejohn |

My daughter and I stopped in while we happened to both be in town. She had scoped out different rooftop bars for us to visit and this was by far the best we visited. Really chill atmosphere and friendly patrons. Our waitress Elizabeth was outstanding even while most of her tables were inside but we were out. We just sat, drank, ate, talked and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and nice views.

Never returning to this DISGUSTING establishment

By Deliyah F |

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I came here with a group of friends and family to celebrate my 21st birthday on 2/16/19, and I was completely embarrassed and disgusted with how we were treated at the door. Prior to arriving, I spoke with two people that worked there. During the first conversation, I was inquiring about table reservations, and I was given the price points of the bottle services. However, at no point in that was it stated that large groups HAD to reserve a table with bottle service. On another occasion I spoke to Ashley Kelly, the general manager. I asked her if there was any list we needed to get added to to ensure entrance, she said no. So you can understand my confusion when we arrive and BRAD, the door manager tells us we cannot enter without a table reservation. From the very beginning BRAD was rude and unwelcoming. He stated that because we were a large group we had to reserve a table to ensure we wouldn't congregate in one area, and when I asked where this policy came from, seeing as though it was never explained in either of my previous conversation with IO employees; he stated that it was on the website (my entire group checked the website, it is not stated on there) and it has always been their policy. So after continuous questioning about this phantom policy, BRAD slips and says that this rule is not only to ensure we don't congregate but to ensure that large groups spend a certain amount of money. So not only is there no room in a lounge for a large group, now we are also being turned around because he is assuming we won't spend any money. As if this isn't bad enough, as I'm speaking with BRAD, the door manager a group of 10 plus (that does not have a table reservation), enter. To everyone's surprise, they are allowed in. So when we see them entering, I ask BRAD why they are being allowed in since they also do not have a reservation. His reasoning was that they know one of the bartenders. So I asked how does he know that they won't congregate or spend a lot of money, being as though these were the reasons why we wouldn't be let in. He says that "there is an exception to every rule." So is the problem that we will congregate or is it that we won't spend enough money? Or is the problem that we don't know the right people? Or is it that we didn't fit the image of BRAD's ideal patron? Whatever his reasoning is, it is complete nonsense and made up in his tiny brain.

Best Bartender EVER!!!

By Jet758294 |

So, I came in town from Texas for a family matter. The hotel is absolutely beautiful! After a long day of traveling all I wanted to do was relax and have a nice drink. The bar on the 4th floor is phenomenal! But even better was my bartender Josh...very attentive and professional. I can tell he takes pride in his job. I had a wonderful experience. I'll be back.

Shame on you IO Godfrey!!!!

By Makicisa B |

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Now this is the second time I've had problems with this place and it will be the last!!! Me and a group of friends and family came here to celebrate a 21st birthday. Before even coming, I emailed a woman named Kayla, who is a hostess at the IO Godfrey. I asked her if there was any kind of list we needed to be on because there was a group. She told me no, but people with table reservations would be seated first. That's understood!! Then, the manager Ashley emailed the birthday girl of our group and told her there is no list, we would be able to come, but it would be standing room only. Ok, that's understood again. As soon as we walk in, they have the door manager BRAD, who was extremely rude from the very beginning, who basically wouldn't let us in because we were a "large" group. He said it was policy and on the website, which was his first lie, because I have yet to find the policy and he couldn't even show us. Then, said the space isn't made for large groups to congregate. BUT if we wanted to pay for a table then we could go up and congregate. So you're telling me your establishment is not made for big groups, but if we buy a table you can accommodate a big group? Hmmmm how stupid does that sound? Now you're lying to me again, BRAD. Then, he said they can't just have us all standing around congregating. I'm sorry, what difference would it make if we all came in pairs of two or four once we were in the lounge, we still would have been socializing together because IT'S A LOUNGE AND PEOPLE SOCIALIZE!!! Then BRAD makes a statement about people not buying drinks. Now we're getting somewhere, BRAD!!! I completely understand it's about money, but for you to automatically assume that because we are a group and we didn't pay for a table, which we didn't want anyway, that we would go up and not buy drinks is extremely insulting. You know what they say about assuming! Like we seriously were here to celebrate a birthday. What would make you think we weren't going to buy drinks? So, next we asked for the manager Ashley, just to get clarification and BRAD said she was upstairs and didn't want to come down. Not understanding, if she's a manager why wouldn't she come down? That's bad business and customer service on her part. THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE.... as we are standing trying to understand BRAD's logic, he literally let a whole GROUP of 10 people, who I will state were all Caucasian, in to go up right in front of us and guess what?!?! They didn't have table reservations, because we made sure to ask them as they all were filing in line. But since they knew somebody there, they were allowed to go up. Hmmm now, there is a bigger problem. This is my second time having an issue with this establishment and the last. Not wanting to make this a racial issue, but it clearly is and in 2019, people will not tolerate the disrespect. Our group gladly took our money to Sound Bar Night Club and the birthday girl had an amazing 21st birthday. That was your final time, IO Godfrey, and I will make sure to make others aware of how you treat people who just want to come and have a good time like everyone else!

Spectacular from every angle

By RJK_Chicago |

We arrived in the city with some time to kill, dropped our stuff in the room and headed to the 4th floor outdoor bar. At first we were in one of the very cool, geodesic domes with a heater, but the wind was blustery and invaded the space too quickly. We went inside, and that is equally beautiful, given the view of the city. The cocktails are amazing. We had a grog, literally made in front of us, of Jameson's, herbs and spices, heated quickly, siphoned from one closed glass receptacle to another, and then served after infusion. Amazing from every standpoint!

Not coming back

By travelfortheatre |

Table for four reservation made on Open Table and had confirmation... hostess said no reservation was made. Luckily...?... table was available. Saw no server for 10-15 minutes Had plenty of time to select brunch choice so ordered beverages and brunch choice at same time Wine was not cold as should have been Two of four plates were served. Third ten minutes later. We cancelled the fourth Manager comped two glasses of wine Server was invisible Would rate food as merely ok

Great Restaurant/Bar

By Gaylord |

The atmosphere is awsome, music, mood lighting, glass roof, etc. A bit too expensive but all worth it! I loved the Blackberry Mule, a great cocktail and the banana cocktail is also really delicious. The server is pretty friendly but the front receptionist is a bit rude, ignored my request until my server came.

small 3rd floor bar with nice views but crowed seating and super expensive drinks. good service though

Not Family Friendly

By Connie Grant N |

The food (appetizers) were very good, but this is not family friendly. Not for children, it's a hot spot by day and night for young adults.

Great for a Summer Night

By TravelBug428 |

Would recommend goinng early if you want to get a seat. Only had drinks, but we really loved the atmosphere.

Cool Atmosphere Great Drinks

By GiGi412 |

High top table mixed with comfy couch and club chairs create a wonderful atmosphere for drinks and conversation. The service is attentive, the calamari and chicken satay are tender and flavorful. The Jane Doe drink is amazing and worth ordering.

Summer sun

Sick rooftop bar with views across the city. The sushi was insane and Josh at the bar is legit. Get the Bloody Mary with some added horseradish...

Beautiful Sites Even BETTER FOOD

By Hannah T |

The meal was hands down one of the best in the city. The views are outstanding and the service impeccable.

Love this placr

By Jamie C |

We always enjoy this beautiful bar. Terri is a great bartender. Best French fries on the planet. No joke!

Good food and service, pricey

By Viktoryia G |

Food is good, service is good.. food on a pricier side but very good quality. Our waiter was very attentive.. drink was unusual ( rainbow sangria is dry wine with frozen cubes of berries). Overall I would recommend. Last seating for the family w kids is 6 pm as at 8pm it becomes 21 and over and kids must be out of there.

Amazing view and great food. Very fun atmosphere!

By dailyfantasywinnings |

This place is great. Fun, friendly, great food. What more can you want! Check it out when there next!

Wasn't particularly impressed

By bc6611 |

everything about my visit was fine. The service was fine, the food was fine, the drinks were fine. There was nothing good or great that I experienced. The wait staff was kind of snobby and ignored you most of the time. The lounge is only on the 4th floor so you get a view but definitly not a true rooftop view. The food and drinks were expensive but not phenominal. Overall it just wasn't worth the price.

Yummy experience!

By hersheykesses |

Traveled from Toronto. This place was recommended by a friend in Chicago. Made reservations on the same day online which cost $50 (this was applied to the bill afterwards). Was happy to try this place. Food: 10/10. Tasted amazing! The octopus was recommended by our services and it was so yummy. Also had the Godfrey maki, the salmon maki, the tuna poke and they were absolutely delicious as well. Had espresso martinis, the I/O cosmo, and the smokey samurai cocktails - strong and delicious as well. Service: Our server was Alexis. She was kind and made great recommendations. I only wish she had informed us about the service fee that was already applied to the bill because we had tipped additionally and that made for quite an expensive bill. So I am quite disappointed in this. Value: Great value for the food. Good portions. Atmosphere: Beautiful. Such a vibe. Lighting was gorgeous. Decent view. Comfortable seating / tables. Music was good. Had sports games on the TV. A couple bars to sit at. Indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, I’d return for the delicious food, drinks and vibe.

Best Service!!!

By Shayna S |

Friends and I went for brunch, food was beautiful and delicious. Bartender Terry was really nice, took us outside and offered to photograph us, she took at least 100 pictures. So friendly and welcoming, can't wait to go back!

Josh was the best!

By Rhianna S |

Not only was the view amazing but we showed up 30 minutes before closing time and Josh was our bartender. He was beyond attentive, personable, and entertaining. Both my partner and I come from many of years of customer service industry and there is nothing better than feeling welcome and taken care of especially on vacation. He’s a keeper. If I could steal him I would. Thanks for a great night Josh!! -K and R

Awesome night at WinterWonderland in IO Roofscape

By TopTripContributor |

Swanky rooftop bar located on the 4th floor of the Godfrey Hotel. Great service, ambience and drinks. The Winter Wonderland setting was fabulous with great city views. Really felt welcomed and enjoyed the whole experience. Definitely a must do when in Chicago.

Josh is awesome!

By Ben S |

Gotta be one of the best bartenders in the city! Efficient, good conversation, informative. Loyal Godfrey patron for life now

Nice rooftop might a better service

By Vanessa F |

Very chick place with good atmosphere. You can do a reservation but waulkings are welcome depending on availability. Food and drinks are good as well but think are a little overpriced. Some of the waiters are a little distracted, we bought a bloody Mary package and we had to make some ourselves. She just came like two time to check up on us and the place was not all that busy.

Love this Place

By Besos123 |

Happening roof top bar, great food and drinks, good service. Dressy, classy, hip vibe, nice music, good for meetings, lunch, or a night out.

Cheated and mistreated

By Gina S |

Very bad. Went for a bday. Given the worst table by the door. The food was terrible and then wine was way overpriced. Tasted like a $5.00 bottle. Manager was extremely rude and confrontational when we were charged the wrong price. You can point to what you want on the menu and then still get overcharged here. We wasted over $400.00 at this dump. The rest downstairs is stellar. Do yourself a favor and don't go up to the roof.

You can't beat IO Godfrey for ambiance, great food nor first class service!

By Kathleen Ioanno |

I had a fantastic event at IO Godfrey last Tuesday night. Everything was top class, starting with Ashley and Mia's great management and assurance to all details, to the classy, hard working wait staff, I couldn't have asked for more! I tried to save the food for the attendees, but just had to try the crispy crab cakes twice, chicken skewers, spring rolls and flatbread, so much for saving the food for the attendees, but I had great intentions, and can definitely give a thumbs up to the food and service from all!

Great roof top bar

By RLC |

February 11 outside by the fireplace. Terri was the bartender. She was awesome!! Had a wonderful apple cider drink. Would certainly order again and again. Have been here in the summer and this was just as much fun.

Okay Venue, Excellent Service

By 2again |

My friends and I had a drink at this bar. I thought the table/chair furniture was lame, but there are couch areas which looked comfy. The drinks were fine, and the service was excellent. Our server "Stephanie" took time to advise us on our drink choices. Very nice. Price point is okay for a Chicago bar. View is okay - just so happy to be on top of any area in downtown Chicago!

Good place to have fun!

By yhycyhn |

Staff is very good, service is fast, food is tasty, music is enjoyable... Only sad part is that it is not at a floor.

Favorite Chicago Rooftop

By TB |

Such a lovely rooftop! I love that it’s not a crowded place, but always such a nice time! Best sangria I’ve ever had!! Oh and don’t forget the truffle fries! Jared is my favorite server! Such a nice guy, makes you feel right at home.

Average, but go for the outdoor terrace

By MsHaslund |

I visited IO Urban Roofscape, when staying at the Godfrey hotel, and I was not blown away. We were unfortunate with the weather, it was pouring down, but the terrace looked amazing, so if the weather is nice, go check it out. We had wine and sushi, and it was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, so a little overprized in my opinion. Also, I was somewhat shocked to see the outfits of the waitresses - their skirts were so short, and their necklines so plunging, that for a second, I thought I was in a strip club! So guys, if you are looking for Hooters with more class, I guess it's the place for you :-)

Great service

By Heidi M |

Great service and drinks from Josh the bartender. Also very helpful in helping us get directions. Make sure to go see him!!

Very cool rooftop

By Ali Van D |

This is a great place for happy hour drinks. The views are pretty cool and they have some good specials. Very beautiful patio and good service. It gets really warm when the sun is beating on the patio, but there is some half indoor half outdoor seating if you want to get out of the direct sun.

Weekend getaway

By Christmas8515 |

Went to Chicago for a getaway and stayed at the Godfrey. Great choice, the hotel was very clean and modern. The room was so quiet did not hear ant noise. Bed was very comfortable and we slept late. Just a short walk to Michigan Avenue with lots of restaurants. Had a drink at the rooftop bar. Nice view of the north side. Did not sit outside even though they had heaters. When it is 8 degrees in Chicago a heater will not help keep you warm. Will stay again.

The Godfrey Experience!

By Amyk1986 |

I experienced one on the greatest rooftop rendezvous with Josh as my bartender. He was very welcoming and charismatic during my drink fest at the bar. I had my mind made up on my regular drink I always engage with but Josh suggested a special cocktail and if I had to put a descriptive phrase to it, it would have been named “The height of excellence”. Josh is the best and he is the reason I will be returning to Godfrey’s rooftop! - Your lovely patron Amielia

Good Times

By Collin1383 |

Great rooftop experience! Josh is the man...awesome service and he gave me a lot of dinner suggestions and other stuff to do while in town. Do yourself a favor and order the burger.

Amazing venue for any occasion

By vballrox101 |

Absolutely fabulous atmosphere and service at I|O! Josh the bartender took care of all of our needs and was so personable. The bar outside is beautiful and accompanied by great music and scenery. It is truly one of Chicago's hidden gems and is hard to beat, especially in the summertime!

Best rooftop in chicago

By Peezytravels |

Great spot for a girls night out or date night. The food and drinks were delicious. They're always playing good music. They have a great outdoor patio with a beautiful view. If you’re visiting chicago, this is a must.

Will never stay at The Godfrey again!

By JANET A |

A group of friends planned a trip to Chicago and reserved 10 rooms at the Godfrey. Most are in our 50’s and 60’s. Earlier we all met at the rooftop bar as our friends checked in Saturday afternoonMy husband and I along with two other couples checked in Friday night to celebrate our husbands birthdays. Later we our group went back to the rooftop bar about 7:00. Myself a friend and husband were in our room talking to their daughter. We went to the lobby to meet our group of friends at the rooftop bar. The two bouncers looked at my friend and said she was too drunk to go to the bar and would not let her up. We were shocked!!! She was far from being too drunk to go to the bar!!! We were dressed in jeans as they let up younger girls dressed in mini skirt and stiletto heels. We were so shocked at how rude they were to us and how they treated us like criminals!! Our group all then left the bar and went to the Old Crow bar/restaurant. We had a great time and spent our money elsewhere. We live 30 minutes from Chicago and visit often for weekends. We will never ever go back to the Godfrey, nor will any of our friends and we will spread the word. They need to get new bouncers that have respect for people and do not judge how they are dressed. The Godfrey does not value their customers at all, very sad and I am very disappointed and disgusted.

Not what we expected.

By dt-2003 |

While drinks were good and service ok, this is not what we expected. It is a section on the 4th floor that is outside. Very popular and aesthetically pleasing but not a “roof with a view”.

Countdown till summer

By allisonrob2008 |

Last summer I basically hit up IO every weekend, and once again im counting down the days till our Chicago summer permits me to return. Drinks are expensive, but the sandwiches are good, the service is surprisingly good also, and its one of the nicest rooftops in Chicago.

Great Bartender

By Bob B |

Terri is the best bartender in Chicago. Ask her to create a drink for you. She remembers your name and remembers your drink. She is friendly, easy on the eyes and has personality that wants you to return. Give her a big tip she deserves it.

Awesome View

By Paolo1005 |

This bar has an awesome terrace. The view is spectacular. Great seating from the bar to sofas all comfortable. We decide to eat while there and surprisingly to food was great and the prices were very reasonable. But I must admit the young lady serving us made the difference (Samantha) great smile fantastic attitude really refreshing and gave us awesome advice on the menu and the on Chicago as well.

Can't beat the view and great drinks, too!

By cathyz12017 |

I live in Chicago and have been here many times--love it! When an employee of mine from MI was in town, I had to take him here. It's my go-to bar for visitors. Great view...Great service and drinks from Terri...and fun was had by all. We were tempted not to leave, but had other sites to see.

Amazing Bridal Shower Venue

By shaunalager |

I recently hosted my best friend's bridal shower at IO in the Godfrey hotel, and it was amazing! She was so happy with the way everything went! Grant, the hotel's director of food and beverage, went out of his way to make sure we had a lovely event. He started by giving us food recommendations for a party our size, which was really helpful. He then made sure that every last detail we requested was taken care of and that every staff member was very knowledgeable in what we wanted, which made for a very pleasant experience. When I arrived, I went up to the restaurant to make sure every thing was in line, and even the hostess knew exactly what we had requested. She graciously showed me where our party would be located and went over all the details with me just to be sure everything was right, which it was. Also, shortly after we arrived Grant checked in to make sure everything was going the way we had asked, which I greatly appreciated as well. Another thing I really appreciated about working with Grant is that he responded to my e-mails in a very timely fashion and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He truly made the planning process really easy. When we arrived, Stephanie, our server, greeted us with a warm smile and went out of her way to ensure that everyone was happy, all 21 of us! She, too, knew exactly what we wanted and made sure to deliver. She did a great job keeping a drink in everyone's hand, making sure our tables had water, clearing our plates, trying to cater to any special requests we asked of her, getting whatever we needed to aid the bride-to-be in opening her gifts, putting the cupcake toppers in the cupcakes we brought in and serving them in a very presentable fashion, etc. She definitely helped to make our experience even better! The food that Grant recommended was great! Everyone commented on how good it was. The presentation was beautiful and worked well for the setup of our party. Plus, his size/amount recommendation was pretty much perfect for our party! I had been to IO before so I knew what to expect atmosphere-wise, but many of the guests of the party had not, and they were really impressed with the scenic views of the city and lovely decor of the restaurant. I would say it's definitely one of the most beautiful places in the city to host an event! Everyone thanked me for a great party at the end, but I told them they should be thanking both Grant and Stephanie as they are the ones who really made everything perfect!

Best roof top bar in the city!

By marksbenak |

I stay here frequently on business trips from ABQ. This is my favorite bar in the city. The retractable roof makes it even that much more special. And Josh and team never disappoint with their top notch customer service. Awesome!

Visit the bartender Terri, she was wonderful!

By anissapalmatier66 |

The view is amazing, hotel is trendy, and Terri at I/O was very informative on the city, and very friendly!

Best service I've ever had!

Really cool spot. Had a great bartender Josh, who was extremely nice and informative. 10/10. Definitely stopping in next time I’m in Chicago! Love the vibe here.

Great City Igloo Experience

By Nimai Hari |

After seeing ifloos all accross the city, we decided to make a reservation after dinner at the Winter Wonderland at the Godfrey. Unfortunately, it wasn't a "true" igloo experience due to the fact it was unseasonably warm temperatures in Chicago (instead of snow, we had to deal with some heavy rain). Despite the weather, we had a great time in the igloo with some friends. I would also reccomend getting some S'mores - they provide all the fixings and let you cook them up on the fire.

Hotel Great/ IO Not so great

By sgray14324 |

Hotel and staff were great. IO bar was not a good experience for me and my friends. The hostess and female manager were rude at entry even though we had a reservation. The bar tender acted as if he didn’t want to serve my mother and aunt their food and drinks in a timely manner. They were told to wait while others who randomly walked up to the bar after them were served first. The order taker was uninterested in providing any kind of decent service to us who were sitting at a separate table he disappeared most of the time we were there and we had to request things from the guys bringing our food instead. I really wished there was the same energy/friendliness from the front desk to the restaurant.

Best Brunch

By chouckadventure |

Enjoying sunshine in Chicago and experiencing a fantastic brunch at IO Urban Roofscape was a highlight in my recent trip to Chicago. The seating arrangements are intimate and fun, with areas that include water features and fireplaces. The food is brightly colored and well seasoned, with the same great cocktail selections as Dolce Italian located downstairs.

The Godfrey Restaurant

By E Farness |

TERRIBLE!!! We were seated and waited 30 minutes before someone even spoke to us. Then waited for water for a long time. Finally we asked a waitress for help. She was not our server but did help. But then we waited for coffee, drinks for 15 minutes. After our drinks to finally come a waitress came to say I will take your order, even tho we had given our order to another waitress. They did not have our order. Food did come out in 15 minutes, but was cold, and really not good to so-so at best. They also forgot 2 of our ordered items. Over-all, bad food and service. Will NOT return. It was a special lunch, our son graduated from DePaul and it was supposed to be a great celebration. But sadly, was not even close.

Awesome

By njandrews2016 |

A real treat - wasn't expecting much other than a good view and went on a rainy day so not even that. Can honestly say it was one of the more memorable meals I ahve had. Our waiter (apologes cam't remember the name) was fun friendly professional. Food was great Steak perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth and the chips (fries) in Duck Fat I think were possibly the best ever. Can't recommend it highly enough. Wine expensive tho

Fantastic fun at night

By makeitso4u |

Come early and people watch! Fun and enjoyable... Drinks seem expensive but there are no cover charges...

Nothing special.

By Raquel M |

Maybe I am to old to be on the rooftops at night now lol. We received bands to go up to the rooftop per our stay at the Godfrey it was my birthday weekend so I was ready to party. When we got up there we literally did a walk through and both decided this was not our party scene. I can say the place looks nice and the 20-30 something crowd look like they were having a ball. So we left the night to the youngsters and retired to our room. I am giving an excellent service rating due to the staff being friendly and professional.

Great view

By CarolineCollins09 |

Brunch was fabulous and service was great! And you can't beat the rooftop views! I definitely recommend it.

Winter wonderland dining and drinks

Great space that they provide warm and cozy "snowglobes" to enjoy cold winter evenings in comfort. Drinks were great, food adequate

Decent Brunch, Horrible Management

By Gabriela H |

I am a person who writes reviews if the service is good and if the service is bad. My friends and I decided to go to Godfrey for Sunday Brunch. One friend wanted to try out the rooftop. I told her that it was a good choice. I went to Godfrey earlier in the year for Galentine's Day Brunch, and I had a great time. After speaking with my friends, we decided to make reservations for the Portico Pavillion. A $500 deposit was required, which said it goes toward the final bill, along with a 21% service fee and a requirement to "purchase a bottle." Now, it did not specify which bottle or how much. There was another option for our party size to make reservations for the Portico Cabana. A $500 deposit was required, which said it goes toward the final bill, along with a 21% service fee, and "A minimum of one bottle from the Celebrate Menu is required." We decided that we would book the Portico Pavillion, seeing that we did not want to be obligated to purchase a bottle from the Celebrate Menu, which the cheapest bottle was $375. It makes absolutely no sense to purchase a bottle of Brut for that price when we can purchase it for $20 at Target. Now, upon getting to IO Godfrey, my cousin had an issue with the valet. They refused to valet park her Jeep since the doors were not on there. The valet attendant was rude and basically pushed them away as if they were bothering them. We were all seated once I arrived. I was asked to see my credit card and ID by the hostess since it was used to make the reservation. I was fine with that and expected that since I saw that in the confirmation. What I thought was out of the ordinary was for them to want to hold my ID and credit card for the entire duration of our reservation. The $500 charge was already completed and cleared four days prior. Our party was seated at the Pavillion as initially intended. Our server came by with menus and then told us that our reservation required a bottle purchase. She then turned the page to the Celebrate Menu. I told her that's not correct, and we did not book the Cabana. Our reservation said that we were required to "purchase a bottle," but it did not specify where on the menu. The server then said she would go and speak to the manager. The manager then came by our area. She told us with our reservation that we were required to make a bottle purchase from the Celebrate Menu. I told her no, that, that's not correct. The website does not say that. I had the screenshots of it says. I specifically booked the Portico Pavillion so that we were not required to purchase a bottle from the Celebrate Menu. I showed her other bottles that we were interested in purchasing. The manager said that we couldn't purchase those, that it wasn't on the Celebrate Menu. I then told her that she was saying something totally different from what was written. Then, a very condescending tone, she replied, "I know what's written because I wrote it!" It's in your confirmation email as well after booking. I told her no, it's not. I know how to read. It does not say that. She then kept telling me that it did. I told her that she may have meant to say that, but it does not say that. It's not my fault that you did not properly articulate that. The manager told us that was the requirement to sit in that area, and she would do us a favor and take off $50 for the inconvenience. That was not sufficient since the website was incorrect. We elected to move to another area, and we did not want for us to be dictated off of what menu we needed to purchase from. The only reason why we still stayed after the entire ordeal was because my card was already charged the $500. We ended up being seated at another table that was far off to the side. We ordered mimosas for the table. The server brought the champagne over along with the fruit puree mix. She purposely poured the champagne to the top of the glasses. There was barely enough for us to all have one glass, and there were eight of us. Then the server said, "Oh, look, I guess you will have to purchase another bottle. " When we tried to pour in the fruit puree, the champagne overflowed, so the majority of the champagne ended up on the floor. Luckily, our food at least tasted good. I feel the need to shed light on this situation. Myself like many people often rely on reviews and reference them prior to trying out new places. Many times, we from the Black and Brown communities are looked at being unable to pay or hostile. This management just dismissed our concerns. They failed to take responsibility for their wrongdoings.

Not so good for lunch!

By Travellover |

The place isn’t bad. Came here for lunch, it was completely empty, not welcoming, not too friendly, and the food is ok. The view is nice.

Amazing service

By Connor S |

I was staying at the Godfrey for a visit to the city, and planned to propose to my girlfriend here at the rooftop bar. When I brought the idea up to the manager she was incredibly supportive and helpful, and the staff really worked to make everything happen exactly as I wanted. It was an absolute pleasure to dine and spend time here and the view of the city is amazing! It has a very modern and energetic atmosphere, and there is plenty of space for peaceful and private moments. If you're looking for a romantic date or just a fun night out with the city view this is the perfect spot.

Nice rooftop restaurant

By svowels |

We went to IO Godfrey for brunch over Thanksgiving weekend. It was very quiet. the service was good, and the food good, as well. However, for what you got for food, it was expensive.

Very disappointed in roofscape

By kelly s |

Purchased the pride package but never received the package. Then expected to cover a 500.00 minimum, absolutely ridiculous and the manager needs to learn customer service and to not drink while workinf

Trendy Brunch

By Bill G |

We came here because of TA reviews to celebrate my spouses birthday. Drinks were great. Spicy Bloody Mary and other cocjtIls were well prepared. Margarita was disappointing and boring. The sun was out full so it was hot! Without cover or umbrella. Aot of people moved because of the heat. Goid was excellent. We had various versions of eggs benedict. They were perfect. Seating is more oriented to casual dining with couches and seats. This is more a trendy nightime place. On 4th floor so views were nothing much. Service was great. May come back for an evening cocktail. Will go elsewhere for brunch celebrations

Nice setting with valuable happy hour

By L Marie J |

Nice setting on 11 th floor with a wide view over the area next to the rooftop. This place is good both if you are a small or a large group of people. We were 10 in our company and was seated in a large u-formed sofa. We came for the happy hour and found both food and drinks worth the happy hour price. But I should never pay full price for what I ate as the food didn’t keep a high standard. Waitress nice and quick (maybe a little bit to quick). The only negative was that we asked for separate bills (as we normally don’t go out together and don’t know each other that well) but that was not possible.

Amazing views with Xmas decor. Total great experience. I planned the have dinner there since my wife loves Xmas decor and we happened to be in Chicago. Wasn’t disappointed. Everything was amazing.

Great outdoor bar in River North

By Pegggus |

Stayed at The Godfrey for a wedding so of course we had to try the rooftop bar. It was great. I made a reservation so we had a guaranteed table and we were given a really comfy banquette with two additional chairs, facing the beautiful skyline view. Space is all weather so some spots have a more indoor vibe but we were in the outdoor section. Service was very attentive. We had a few drinks and two plates: the wagyu sliders and the hummus. Hummus was fine but the sliders were great. My cocktail was from the kitchen menu and it was very good and very pretty. Hubby got the Spanish Gin and Tonic and loved it. We went at 10pm but it seemed to be getting more crowded towards end of our stay (reservations are for 75 minutes). But that was perfect for us, we were older than most of the crowd and the bar is open til 2 so I’m sure it gets even busier as the night goes on.

50th bday

Ended up at Roofscape after dinner out. Party of 12. Got a booth. Rachel our survey was awesome. Took care of us the entire night. 6 star service from Rachel and her gang. Roofscape had great music.

Great spot for a night on the town! Service and music matched the beautiful view of the Chicago skyline! Great crowd as well, a mix of upscale and casual, very comfortable setting.

Party On Top!

By Kemeko |

Was in town for a day party and had the time of my life...one of the best day parties this far. Food was as good as bar food at a party gets. Fries were cold...why aren't my fries ever hot? There was no table service, I had to walk to the bar to pickup my food so the $35 I paid as a automatic service fee was excessive, including those $12 cold fries! Especially when I get the bill afterwards and find out that I had an extra drink added to my tab! Oh well, no sense in crying over a spilt drink now... Hope that person was happy w/the complimentary drink or tip? Overall, the party was pretty festive and some of the attendees were quite the topic of some interesting looks, behavior and conversations. You get it...

Style over distance - Not one for the family

By MumofTwo |

Let’s start here, I had really high hopes for this night. We went after the Chicago marathon for the brunch and from entering began to wonder if we’d made an error. The buffet was pre cooked (as it is) and in warm dishes that didn’t seem to be warmed in any way leading to a sweaty cold buffet choice. The meat which was served by the chefs was lovely but anything coming out of a serving dish seemed to have been there a good few hours! Why didn’t I say something ? I honestly feel it would have been pointless, I got the impression particularly from the management they had better things to do on a Sunday evening and our custom was neither valued nor important. What was one of the more expensive evenings whilst away turned out to be the biggest disappointment - Instagram worthy - absolutely, great for cocktails with friends - yes but as a dining destination with 2 children (both of know how to behave in a restaurant) we were made to feel very unwelcome - credit to the photographer and other independents working for the hotel that evening they were all pleasant and really helpful - very sad in leaving this review

IO Godfrey Retains it's Title as my Favorite Rooftop Ever - Solid 10 out of 10!!

By Kathleen Ioanno |

I had an event at IO Rooftop last Wednesday night, and as always everything was top notch! Ashley once again had everything set up so that my event ran as smooth as glass. She is a truly unbeatable professional who never disappoints! While she had to run out for a little while, she had us all set up in good hands with Trigger, and we were able to have an amazing evening on the best rooftop in the City - bar none! The service was excellent and the food was so good that I can't stop thinking about it and I keep asking my fiancee when we can go there to eat again. If you want to get lots of compliments from your guests, friends, peers, etc., this is the place to go! I can't say enough good things, you just have to go there and find out!

50 bday

Staying at the hotel! Went to visit the Urban Roofscape for a small drink. Was treated to exceptional service by bartender Terri. She took unbelievable care for my girlfriends 50th. Set us up for the night. Went out of her way to do so. Thanks Terri. Made Cathy's night. Day. Year!

A drink worthy of the view

By Matthew T |

I was in town on business for one night and my company put me up in the Godfrey. Not intending to go out after a long day of travel, an associate in the lobby recommended IO for a drink and a snack. I could not have been more surprised and relieved. The view of Chicago was stunning, the decor stylish and cool, and the service was as elevated as the bar itself. Rachel, my waitress and bar tender, walked me through the menu and directed me to a refreshing glass of champagne, some great appetizers, and about the best smoked old fashion I've ever had. Rachel was funny and helpful. The best part is that price is half of what I would have paid at similar venues in NYC. This place isn't just a drink, it's a chicago experience. Check it out!

Non- Existent Service

By fabbie |

If I can give 0 rating , I would've. Let me start off by saying that the service we didn't get from this place is second to none. Our server Angelica did not check on us even once. Even the bus boy Luis didn't get what we asked for even if we flagged him 3 times. Apparently, it was too much to ask. Every table got checked on except us. We were planning on ordering more drinks but our server is nowhere to be found. We even had to get up and look for her to pay for our bill. Matter of fact, we could've left the place without paying lol. To be fair to IO, the food and drinks we had we're good. We ordered the pitcher of rainbow sangria, pork belly sliders, wagyu beef sliders, and truffle fries. Nevertheless, we will def not come back to this place. You would think after lockdown they would've stepped up their game but our experience was the opposite. Extremely disappointed

Great service, awesome patio

By rasta_analyst |

Had some time to kill while on business. Came up here for a quick drink on the patio...very cool set up and nice staff!

Beautiful Views and Seating Areas

By Donna1213 |

This is a great place for happy hour or an evening cocktail and snacks. There are umbrellas if you need shade and fire places if you need heat. Their IO cosmopolitan is delicious. Views are fantastic!

Nice rooftop bar

By pmksis |

This was a very lively bar. It was an exceptionally warm day in February so it was extremely crowded and loud. I picked this place to start our birthday celebration for our 23 year old son. He and his 24 year old brother loved the atmosphere as it was upbeat and full of young people. Service was ok but not stellar which is why I gave it a 4 star. They have awesome truffle fries!

Amazing!!!

By Donna |

My whole experience here was fantastic. The cute bartender Josh made it 10x more enjoyable. I came by myself and he made me feel so welcome. If you come here make sure to have him as your bartender.

The Worst Experience and Service at the Rooftop/Roofscape!!

By Deep Kumar |

This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had at a restaurant. We arrived at their Rooftop at 12:30 PM for our reservation, but due to miscommunication among their staff, our table was mistakenly given to another party. After waiting for 20 minutes, we were finally seated at 12:50 PM and placed our order by 12:55 PM. What followed was over an hour of waiting with repeated follow-ups, only to be told that the kitchen was “very busy.” By 2:10 PM — nearly 70 minutes after placing our order — we decided to cancel and requested the check. To our surprise, the server responded with a smile, offered no apology, and showed no concern that we were leaving a Sunday brunch without having been served a single dish. We then had to escalate the issue to the General Manager, who handled the situation professionally and kindly offered to waive our $20 coffee/water bill — a gesture we appreciated. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the overall service was extremely disappointing, and the rooftop itself was nothing special compared to the other rooftops in Chicago. Sadly, we won’t be returning and would not recommend this place to others.

No Party In the Winter

By Mariangela793 |

It is a beautiful, elegant partial roof top bar but just not happening for the winter if you wanna dance. The music was old school, no one was dancing, it is more of a lounge to have drinks and bar food in a beautiful setting with private nooks but not party central and they do charge a cover of $15/per person. The staff was polite and helpful.

A nice plus to staying at The Godfrey

By SteveAnn16 |

We stayed at The Godfrey hotel for our 10th anniversary, and discovering IO Urban Roofscape on the property was a delightful bonus. Our server, Rachel, was superb: attentive, friendly and welcoming! We were friends after our four-day stay! The view is wonderful: stars and skyline. Even in the midst of winter, you can feel as if you're outside. And if you want to actually be outside, they have heated igloos!

Fun spot gorgeous views

By MrsRI |

My husband and I went for cocktails here and we had a great time! The bartender was awesome and the views from the roof were spectacular...we will definitely be back!

Beautiful spot - wonderful service.

By VALERIEJN |

We've stopped at IO twice during the last two months while staying downtown and both times were 5 star. Besides the good food and drinks and the great atmosphere the service is incredible. We came back the second time after 3 weeks and Terry (at the bar) greeted us like old friends - that's something very special, that you don't see often. Thanks for a great time.

AMAZING!!

By meganmorris1995 |

While on business from Orange County I decided to stop by this gem to have a drink and something to eat and had the most OUTSTANDING service! Thank you to Terri for the 5 star hospitality! I will definitely be back here my next visit to Chicago. If you ever have the chance to come here-request Terri!

Go see Terri for amazing service!

Came to hang out before we went out and explore the city. Josh at the bar was friendly and recommended a great drink called the Godfrey Toddy. The presentation was amazing and had a great time here. Would definitely recommend it here for those looking for a Sunday hangout.

Terri was the best bartender ever!!!! She made us the best drinks and continued to tell us about other cool bars to go to.

Hot Sexy Summer Nights!

By kikionthefly |

I don't think this place is a secret as they pulled in many crowds on a weeknight. The drinks are PHE-NOM-E-NAL! The ambiance is open and airy, fresh, young and vibrant. They offer bottle service in chic decor with good looking staff. Great spot for a good time and some interesting people watching.

its like a club! love it! drinks, the sitting area! the appetizers!

By joselito1959 |

The music is so good. beautiful view from the "roof top"- 4th floor! great drinks, great service. had some appetizers - the peppers were excellent and the sliders - amazing. the french fries - so good! love the view and love the sitting area. great relaxing area! i just needed the dance floor! the music in the back ground was great!

Great view - overpriced drinks

By Jasmine M |

This is your typical Chicago Rooftop Bar - all the "cool kids" are there and if you are over 25 you will feel old. But embrace it! Have an overpriced drink and enjoy the view!

Love!!

Visiting for parents night out. Great hotel. IO bar is amazing, Great happy hour! Terri was a fantastic bartender! Highly recommend the watermelon martini. Will definitely be back.

Birthday celebration

By montanezjaime |

As stated previously were were very disappointed with the service and deminior of the IO and there restrictions as to bottle service being required for our group even though when speaking with other individual who attended it wasn’t even offered to them yet required by us.

15 year old Birthday

By BAQM |

My daughter was making a birthday video for a school project. We flew in from Seattle to spend her birthday. We went to the IO in our hotel at 6pm knowing they had igloos and a beautiful cityscape to shoot only to be told no children. Later that evening I met Terry who works there and the next even she not only made sure we got in but made the night for my daughter unforgettable. I will never forget it. She's a fantastic bartender and a bit of a holiday angel. Thank you Terry. You're one of a kind.

Phenomenal!

By Shehade3 |

This is my go to spot for mimosas on a Saturday or a Sunday! Service was A okay and the staff was wonderful. Would definitely come here again and ask for Josh, definitely made our visit twice as fun . Cheers

Lively Rooftop Scene

By MRSTRAVELLER1 |

Had a great time here, visited early evening, before it got too raucous & whilst staff had the time to chat & provide good service. It’s a very popular, lively & youthful place, with a large indoor & outdoor space, the latter boasting fire pits & igloos, as part of the pre-Xmas scene. Very much a party vibe. Cocktails were fabulous - particularly loved the Caramel Apple & Perfect Pear.

Arrested Development

By JazzyShar |

“Don’t Hesitate to Reach Out! Creating constant development for better service is a goal of ours. Let us know how we did. We love to hear about your experience at I|O, good or bad.” These words are proudly posted on I|O Godfrey’s Website and now I know why. You’ve extended the invitation and I humbly accept. Due to their inadequacies in customer service, they have to be in a state of “constant development” because what’s a hot venue today will be gone tomorrow if you ill treat your customers. I’ve never experienced any venue operating from a “negative” perspective, generally they operate from a “service” perspective, i.e. how can we be of service, how can we possibly service your group...not I|O Godfrey’s Management. I’m in the Entertainment Business, thus I operate from a “Service” model...How can I be of assistance? The question I’ll offer is, how many positive experiences can erase the memory of a negative first impression? A venue is just that...brick and mortar...the employees create the experience...and breathe life into the edifice...

Very nice hotel, great location

By Sarah H |

We came to Chicago for a concert and stayed overnight at the Godfrey. We were very impressed with the hotel; it was modern, clean, spacious, and have a comfortable bed. When I booked it saw it had a rooftop bar/restaurant so made reservations before we left for the concert. The rooftop was awesome, even in the winter. The atmosphere was great and our service was wonderful. We enjoyed our food and drinks and would love to see what it's like during the summer months. The location of the hotel was conveniently located to many restaurants and had close parking in a garage that we were able to book ahead of time using SpotHero. Overall a great experience and would definitely stay here again!

Fun Sexy Bar with yummy drinks

By makeitso4u |

This place is for a young and the upper class crowd, but we got in early and had fun being part of the 50+ crowd... The hostess Brenda was so nice and cute. I asked her if she was a model and she said yes! I had to laugh... The Drinks are a little high but then you have to think about the view, property and of course no cover charge... Again come early and find a seat you can watch people.

When the sun goes down in the city....

By chouckadventure |

...the night comes to life at IO Godfrey! This club by night venue is a place to see and be seen. Cocktails to rave about, great music, and a lively atmosphere make this a fun place for groups to gather until the wee hours of the morning.

Rooftop Bar

I've always wanted to experience a rooftop bar in downtown Chicago. It was a busy weekend with everything going on so we ended up stopping here. It was a good time, but a little bit on the pricey side.

Relaxing Atmosphere and Great Drinks

By GiGi412 |

Very comfortable seating arrangements for large parties or for a cozy twosome. The drink menu is unique and the Jane Doe is recommended. We enjoyed the calamari and Chicken sate. The service is attentive.

Awesome Venue with First Class Staff!

By Kathleen Ioanno |

I absolutely love everything about IO Godfrey!! I just had an event there Monday evening, and as usual, the staff including Ashley, Tommy, Mia, etc, made my event first class and flawless. Also, the food was fabulous and everyone raved about it, and the beautiful evening they spent at IO Godfrey. Can't wait to go back, it can't be beat for a memorable event!

Josh is the best. Ask for him. He is cute and attentive. What gal doesn’t want that? Josh, you are awesome. Thanks for treating the ladies right.

Watch out for the service fee!

By James H |

I went for the Thanksgiving buffet. Mainly because of the pictures showing the great view and atmosphere. There was no view at all from where we were seated and the table was patio furniture even though we were well inside. The meal was very nice but not great. The email reminder about the reservation was very misleading. It included a note that a 20% service fee would be applied. When the bill came the service fee was 40%. When I inquired the server mentioned it is 20% person. So I paid a 40% service fee and a 20% tip which seems outrageous . Your money can be better spent elsewhere!

I LOVE, I|O Godfrey!

By BeBe J |

I stopped by to meet a few friends for drinks and it's ALWAYS a good time to have a good time at The Godfrey! The staff is amazing and the rooftop is such a sexy vibe! The rooftop experience here is one of THE BEST (if not the best) in the city and the ambiance of the entire hotel makes me think I'm not in Chicago for the moment... I love that!!! Thank you, Sandi and Tai for your hospitality... my friends and I had a blast! I'll be back very soon!!!

Fun bar with nice people but super expensive!

By The-Lap-of-Luxury |

We arrived by 10:00 on a Saturday and place was busy but not packed. Woman at hostess stand told us all booths were bottle service and the igloos on the rooftop were all reserved except for one that could be rented for an hour for $325. The outside space was very cool with fake snow coming down and lots of holiday decorations, but we passed. We were standing around trying to determine where to go since there were 6 of us and she came up to us and offered a booth away from the windows free for one hour. Since there were at least 4 open booths closer to the windows, we felt that was smart on their part to at least get some drink income! We all ordered something different including specialty margaritas, mojitos, etc. Drinks were very good. Atmosphere was great. Two packed bars and lots of great people watching. There were a couple girls who went outside and did a dance with fire rings. Continued to get more crowded and younger as the night went on.

Great view with the amazing service and offerings.

By Mariusz F |

We were greeted with the smile and positive attitude, seated in the prime spot and offered vast choices from the menu. Food / drinks were amazing on top of a great service. Highly recommended.

Starstruck by Josh the Bartender

By Frankie |

I came to the I|O Godfrey for a business meeting with a client. I made my over way to the bar, and Josh the bartender greeted us with a charming and friendly attitude. When it came down to making our drinks, it’s clear he doesn’t take his job lightly; he only means business. He mixed our cocktails with such passion and focus that could only be tasted by the consumer of his delicious concoction. I ordered the Godfrey Manhattan which was perfectly crafted by Josh, as the notes of orange and cinnamon were distinct and blended well together, yet not overpowering. Josh truly made our experience at the I|O Godfrey one worth remembering, and is the reason why we will return to this amazing rooftop.

Great View & seating

By Alison G |

We were staying at a nearby hotel and wanted to visit a rooftop since the weather was beautiful. We arrived mid-day and were told that they were only taking "VIP and hotel guests". But then we were told we can go up since they weren't busy. I'm sure they were trying to be "exclusive" but not I don't know why they would turn away customers. It had a great view and fun music.

Rude waiter

By Damselinthecity |

The photo will speak for itself. Last Friday night, May 12, I asked my friends to hang out with me at Godfrey. We initially stayed at the patio and had a good time. Our server was very nice and attentive. She kept on asking if we need anything and this even made us more interested in ordering more drinks. Then we went inside. We were about to take a picture and while we were posing, the waiter (guy in black with curly hair in the photo) just went straight ahead and pushed me. No 'excuse me' or any warning from him, he just went straight ahead. There were two other waiters who were behind him but they waited until we took the photo, not like this very rude man. I looked for him to ask if he knew what he did. He ignored me at first and he did not even apologize. I had to ask for an apology from him. This made me really upset and this ruined our night. I did not come to Godfrey to be treated like that. After a few minutes, he gave me a free glass of champagne which I did not take. He thinks what he did will be solved by a glass of champagne. I will never go back to this place. All my friends will never go back to this place. We will gladly spend our money somewhere else.

This was a nice spot for after work drinks with colleagues during the week. I enjoyed the city view and it was lively, but not too loud for conversation.

Not too good for lunches!!

I came here for lunch after I landed in Chicago. The place isn’t welcoming. It was pretty empty and the service wasn’t the best. Food was ok. Might be better for dinner.

Great space to enjoy sunshine in all seasons!

What a great space to have in all months - but, especially during the cold months. This has a glass enclosure that allows the sun in when it's negative and frigid outside. So bright on sunny days that they sell sunglasses.

Great bartenders

By This Traventurous Life |

We came here as we were staying at the Godfrey and wanted to grab a couple drinks before the Blackhawks game. The bartender was warm and welcoming! He served us delicious drinks and made great conversation. The view was spectacular as it is all glass in the room and you could see it snowing outside. We loved it so much we returned after the hockey and I turns into a vibrant night life scene!! We would definetly come on our next visit! Hopefully in the summer so we can take full advantage of the rooftop bar!

Brunch at IO Roofscape at Godfrey Hotel

By Stephanie R |

I had brunch with friends just as a get together and the place is beautiful. The environment and atmosphere was very inviting and relaxed. The food was delicious and fulfilling. Our waitress was very attentive and everything came out fast. Excellent service! If I had to rate this place and experience, it would be a 10 out of 10. I will definitely be returning. Keep up the great work!!

Chill vibe and great view

We went here as a small group in August and loved it. The happy hour menu was great. Also, the views were great. We were able to experience the view both during daylight and at night. To top it off, the service was excellent.

Great big rooftop dining with great views of downtown

By janhad |

Loved this outdoor rooftop. Biggest in Chicago. Great menu and drink selection. Loved the igloos, but a little warm when we were there to enjoy them. Very nice fireplace, waterfall wall and great places to sit and converse. Reserve early. It's going to be busy during the warm months.

I've been here at night...gorgeous view! The purple lighting is so pretty. Only issue I came back another week and they apparently were having a private party, so I'd definitely call ahead. During the daytime the rooftop is nice but seating reserved for bottle service only and slow-service at the bar.

Get the Godfrey Maki

By Danny A |

If you want to enjoy the best of Chicago, stay at The Godfrey. Rooftop bar is the best in the city and the staff is super friendly...Josh is ok I guesss. You will definitely have a good time here and you’ll be seriously disappointed if you don’t order the Godfrey Maki!

Gorgeous rooftop bar!

Came here over the weekend with my sisters and friend. The service was great! Our waiter Mike was very friendly and attentive. We never had to wait around to order more drinks or foods. We had several appetizers and sushi. Everything was really good. The rainbow sangria is a must try! Specially if you don’t like strong drinks. Can’t wait to be back!

Always have to stop by here!

By Nate S |

Love stopping by during the day for a drink under the glass roof, and to say hi to Terry!! Its a great almost "hidden" bar with great views of the city, winter, or summer. Terry as always was awesome this visit, and it's always fun exchanging stories! I will be back in the summer when the roof is opened up!!

4th floor bar misery

By rrdecker2019 |

4th floor bar not managed by hotel, therefore entrance is granted if your a friend of the door guy. Also drunk bar patrons are mingling with sober hotel guests. At some point there is going to be trouble at this bar and the trouble will overflow onto the hotel guests.

Godfrey's Rooftop Fantastic place.

Terri is an amazing bartender. We had so much. We were kind of sad when we got here but she cheered us up so much. Great time. We will be back for sure!!!

Expensive but good food

By Palmer R |

The appetizers were good. The drinks were expensive and the pour was light. Service was friendly. The "rooftop view" is not really special. Nice place for a drink.

Ask for Josh.

Place had an amazing feel with being in and outdoor with the retractable roof. The staff was no only attractive but so friendly and inviting. They all made us feel at home. Especially josh the bartender, he really went above and beyond for us. Can’t wait to return when he is working!

Never Again!!!! Racial Hypocrisy!!

Oh and interesting enough someone in our party was actually texting Ashley about what was going on, and she stated that she wasn't even on the premises. Hmmmm so who is lying and what is the reason for lying? This is my second time having an issue with this establishment and the last. Not wanting to make this a racial issue, but it clearly is and in 2019, people will not tolerate the disrespect. Our group gladly took our money to Sound Bar Night Club and the birthday girl had an amazing 21st birthday. That was your final time, IO Godfrey, and I will make sure to make others aware of how you treat people who just want to come and have a good time like everyone else!

Awesome vibe, beautiful view, tasty drink!

By Mandy M |

I happened upon this place by accident. A friend and I were grabbing a drink by their hotel, and ended up here. We were not disappointed!!! I'll definitely be back :) I loved the vibe of the area. It was cozy and comfortable. The drinks we ordered were speciality cocktails from the bar and one of them came out with the glass "smoked" which was exciting! We had Rachel as our server, and she was so fun, full of positive energy, and attentive! She even told us about the history of the place and what it's like in the summer.

Great views, nice ambiance

Cool, busy place. Friendly efficient service. Simple menu, decent quality of food (except the Wagyu steak tartare that I found disappointing). Views of Chicago skyline are the main reason to visit. Worth booking in advance if you want a seat in a nice area.

Summer time 👙

Maybe to soon to talk about summer. This Roof top bar is amazing. I never seen color ice cubes in a drink before. Drink did stay colder longer.

Our trip!

We absolutely loved the hotel. The rooftop bar was the cherry on top where we met terri and she made us feel completely covered and took amazing care of us. Will recommend this place everywhere I go.

Great rooftop bar- open doors in February!

By Christina S |

We came to this bar 3 times while in town for a few days. The atmosphere is really cool and comfortable. The bar has huge sliding doors that they had open one day. In February! It was beautiful and a great experience. Terri the bartender was super friendly and remembered what we were drinking from the night before too! We never ate here but what I saw others enjoying looked delicious!

An experience that we wished we had never had...

By RanLet |

At night, with loud music, a fun crowd and a few drinks for the better I can see how the place might be great. But for a brunch in the sober light of the day it was simply awful. The place is poorly maintained (broken glass between the decking, battered tables full of scratches, white seating that is marked. Don't seem to know the difference between a cappuccino and a coffee. Small portions that are swimming in grease, parts of the ingredients were missing, perhaps fortunately as the ingredients that were there were insipid. In short, the impression was that everyone one and everything (including the food) were severely hunger over from the night before. We could not get out of there quickly enough.

Terri, our bartender, is amazing!! Great service, always remembers our names and drink preferences no matter how long it's been since the last time we've been in town.

Josh was very engaging and guided us through the dinner and drink menu. Incredibly service oriented.

Incredibly service oriented. We will be back because of Josh. The hotel staff was excellent and the bar was incredible. Chicago skyline was superb!

Loud, crazy and expensive

By Traveling Coach |

On a recent visit to Chicago we stayed at the boutique Godfrey Hotel. Lovely hotel in a great location in downtown Chicago. The hotel does not have a pool but they do have a very chic rooftop bar and lounge on the 4th floor. It appears that the lounge is operated by an independent group (separate from the hotel) and they even have their own semi-private entrance on the ground level. The trick is to keep lounge guests separate from the hotel guests and given the number of people coming and going to the rooftop lounge, it is very popular which demands some sensitivity to the guests of both establishments. When we checked in to the hotel our room was on the 6th floor and we could hear the pounding, thumping music coming from the club directly below us. We immediately asked for another room but, unfortunately the hotel was sold out. We did manage to get moved the next day but the music was WAY too loud. It was late and we were hungry so the rooftop lounge was the only eating option. We made our way to the 4th floor and into the lounge after fighting our way through the bouncers (clad all in black) and the patrons. The pulse thumping music was headache inducing and was so loud you could hardly have a conversation with someone across the table. Thankfully we found a manager (Rory), who helped us find a more quiet corner where we could order food and beverage. It was still loud but at least it was away from the crowded main rooms. While there was no cover charge (assume because we were hotel guests) it is expensive. Drinks are overpriced and while the food was pretty good, it was expensive. Patrons were coming and going all through the evening and it was, as you might expect, a largely young crowd. As we "people watched" while we were there, it was interesting see the way they were attired. Lots of crazy outfits and a few people appeared to be wearing their house slippers with their sliced up jeans. Overall, this was not a pleasant experience for us. Perhaps we are simply too old to enjoy the "disco-type" scene at the Rooftop Lounge. If you go, take your credit card and ear plugs.

Josh is awesome. Best rooftop in the city. Vegas has nothing on this place. When I sat down, I knew immediately that I was in a top-tier venue.
