Our favorite for Sushi, Maki, and Teryaki

By Tahoe55 |

We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years and even if we haven't been in a while, we receive a warm greeting. Their specials are very good.

great neighborhood restaurant

By tripper1949 |

We've been coming here for 10 years, as it is the best restaurant we've found within 10 minutes of our home. Every time, we've had an excellent meal. The teriyaki chicken and tempura was much loved by our son, a picky eater in his youth. They make me California rolls with real crab and the ginger is not died pink. My husband enjoys the sushi. The owner/ chef greets us personally and makes fresh food. Lunch is a great value. Dinner is a few dollars more, but certainly within reason. I give it a 5 for the category of neighborhood Japanese. Not gourmet or high-end, but perfect for a quick, casual dinner out.

great local sushi restaurant

By RIDPDX |

Ichiban is a little gem tucked away in a larger mall on Cornell Road, not far from Murray Rd. The resaturant is sinmple but pleasant and probably has the best sushi for some distance around. Prices are OK, although their special rolls can get a bit expensive. Basics like seeweed salad, hamachi sashimi and more common sushi dishes are all fresh, well prepared and consistently good. The staff are friendly and always acknowledge their regulars with enthusiasm. Ichiban is a dependable favourite for us and many of our friends who love Japanese food.

Used to be really good but so slow now fish isn't fresh

By Kristi N |

We used to go to Ichiban every Friday night as it's somewhat close to our neighborhood. But while they seemed busy for years, it got slower and slower and we felt the quality and freshness of the sushi declined. We've stopped going after the last time when the fish as BAD. It's sad cuz the owner is a really nice friendly man and we always enjoyed going there but I think it's time they close. Maybe becuz this area has grown and people have more options for dining than even 5 years ago. I eat at the CT Bistro (Thai/Vietnamese) place literally right next door on regular basis and always look to see if Ichiban has customers and they hardly do. Saddens me every time. Unfortunately there aren't many other good sushi places on this side of town either, really need to go downtown where it's busy to get really fresh. People seem to love Bamboo Sushi.

Simply Amazing

By Mwilliams113 |

Just a quick dinner trip and was delightfully surprised. The amount of fish they give for portions is very impressive compared to others. Their menu is quite wonderful and to those who are seeking great sushi or sashimi this is the place.

Great rolls

By CynthiaT496 |

We ordered three rolls and had plenty left over to take home. The people are friendly and the food is fresh!

Great place for lunch

By Sher i |

The bento lunch specials are excellent. My friend had a beef teriyaki and I had shrimp tempura. I have been here before and ordered a variety of sushi which was fresh and plentiful. The price is reasonable and service good. It's also quiet which makes is a great place for conversation.

Terrific new restaurant.

By Bob K |

Took the family for lunch not long after they opened and during the Christmas break. We all different lunches,I had the teryaki and its excellent and came with egg roles. The sushi was rated excellent as well bye the guys. The service was good -- we where in rush. We all recommend this restaurant highly

One of the better sushi restaurants in the Beaverton area!

By Dean S |

I eat sushi here quite frequently and find it to be one of the better sushi restaurants in the Beaverton area. The fish quality is quite good, and the service is excellent. Prices are a little on the high side but still reasonable for the quality. As a repeat patron the owner often gives me a free sushi dish which is greatly appreciated and keeps me coming back. If you are looking for good sushi in the Beaverton are you should give Ichiban a try.

Great food at a great price

By Luanne S |

Although the atmosphere is modest this is some of the best sushi, sashimi, and especially tempura I've had. The prices are great too. Around $12-$15 each will get you a really fantastic dinner. I would only think the service could be a little more friendly and it would be perfect. The chef is super friendly, the the head waitress always seems a tiny bit annoyed, or rushed.

OMG, gross! Not fit for human or animal consumption

By Mazzystar100 |

Where to start? First I'm wondering HOW they got anything more than zero stars. Ordered chicken, rice and soup for lunch. Waaaaay overpriced at 8.95 for what I got, which wasn't even edible. 8 little strips of dried out, old chicken teriyaki, two small pieces of nasty cabbage, rice uninspired, soup INEDIBLE. I'm not even sure if it's real chicken but I can tell you it's at least a day old. They use KRAB not CRAB, really? We're in the PNW people! In no way would i recommend this place, even my dog wasn't interested in any of it.

Authentic Japanese Food

By SDFlipFlops |

Independant restaurants like this have closed all over town, but not Ichiban. Their food is well prepared and fresh. The tempura is light and their sushii chef is friendly and does a good job.Everything from their rolls to their dinners are very good! Try the Dynamite Roll for a hot delicious treat!

All aboard the sushi train!!

By 1trickpony |

All aboard the sushi train! Visited here the other night and we had a blast. The sushi was generous with a good selection, the hot sake delicious and the chefs and staff friendly, helpful and welcoming. The sushi train is a great novelty too! Will certainly be back

Really good Katsudon and very attentive staff...

By Robert S |

I lived in Japan for two years and my favorite foods are Katsudon, Okonomyaki and fried rice. It is easy to find good fried rice, but the other two are difficult. I was happy to find Katsudon here as we grabbed a late dinner. Next time we will try some sushi. The miso soup was just OK. The waitress was very fast as was the food delivery and the owner thanked us as we left. Nice touch!

Good Japanese restaurant in the neigborhood

By btreid |

My kids likes this restaurant. They said the Yakisoba is really good. I love the place but the prices is a little bit high in my opinion.

Good neighborhood Japanese restaurant.

By Urban_Ursine |

We suspect the owners of Ichiban and Mio Sushi crossed paths at some point in their culinary past. Many of the sushi (names and content) are similar, if not identical. The prices are a tad bit higher, the sushi rolls a tad bit smaller, but nonetheless, this is still a good place to go for Japanese food that won't break the bank. The typical Japanese stand-bys are reliable and good: sushi, bento boxes, sukiyaki. Outside of taking the order, bringing the order, and bringing the check, the service is spotty. You often have to ask for refill on tea or water, but when you do, the response is swift and efficient. The restaurant is small and cozy and there seems to be a good number of take-away orders at dinner time.

Good Japanese food

By mushbigdog |

Had a very nice lunch here. Very good and fresh sushi. Tasty Miso soup and good Teriyaki chicken. Decor a little beat and out of date but still a nice place for lunch. Note that this place closes at 2pm. But reopens later for dinner

Wrong takeout

By Rene B |

Ordered takeout sushi rolls One spicy tuna and one spicy salmon The fish in the rolls was mashed. The two rolls looked the same

Terrible night for them on small business day!

By SDFlipFlops |

We eat here about 6-8 times a year. Usually they are very good. Tonight the fish was not fresh, the beef was rotten and the service was worse. Nobody refilled our water because nobody came to check on us. It took them 25 minutes to get our check. They seemed much more talkative and attentive to their regular customers, asking about thankgiving when we didnt even get a hi when we got seated

Womderful food, lovely people!

Ichiban Japanese Restaurant has a nice atmosphere and wonderful owners. We always have an excellent meal when we go!

17 Years Later and It Is Still A Great Sushi Experience

By Mark W |

I am not joking - I first went to this place in 2001 and returned to see it open and thriving in 2018. The sushi chef and his wife are still running the place and doing good business. The sushi was always very good and I found that high quality still the same so many years later. I enjoy the greeting when you enter and the sushi chef is very personable if you are sitting at the bar and it is not too busy. I love the variety of rolls on the menu - creative and delicious. I especially like the Sven Roll and the Wood Roll as those are the only two rolls that made it from the temporary specials whiteboard to the printed menu. Become a regular at this place or at least stop in for some good sushi.

Hidden gem

By fdunlap |

On my latest visit to Portland we (daughter & son-in-law) went for sushi, it was excellent. Service was good, not great but the chef is welcoming to all and we were treated to a free appetizer to go with our delicious Plum wine. We ordered a variety of sushi and a tempura plate. All were excellent. Thought it was a bit pricey but what good sushi isn't!

OK, But Not Great

By jimboblaze |

Ordered a bento lunch. Food was ok. Service was fast and great, but that might have been due to a slow customer day. A little pricey for lunch and the quality. The restaurant was decorated nicely with lots of wood. So, I enjoyed the atmosphere. Soda was out of a can that I poured into a glass. Surprised they did not have a better drink dispensing system. I got the impression it is long term family run and if you came a lot you would probably build up an interesting relationship with the family that might improve the experience. I will probably not go back. There are a lot of other nearby options that do not have the gaps in price and quality.

Great Japanese restaurant - tasty and cheap

By RPL19 |

I'm a Vegan so my review here is a bit limited. I ate great vegan rolls. Everything was tasty, the waiters were kind and efficient, we waited 1-3 minutes for the different stuff we ordered. And on top of all of it - it was quite cheap (I ate more than enough and drank plum wine for $20~). I highly recommend this place.
