What a delicious dinner!

By Naplesdave0820 |

This is a great restaurant in an "out of the way" (by most standards) location. WELL worth the trip. Their chicken was scrumptious, as was the lasagna and veal scallopini. This is a really good place to dine! Friendly and attentive waitstaff. Warm and cozy fireplace. I couldn't help feeling right at home.

Carry out pizza

By JBK87 |

I picked up a thincrust sausage and pepperoni pizza to take home on my way out of Chicago after visiting nearby Lagunitas Brewery. The entrance on the side of a narrow alley opens to an inviting space of welcoming people. I enjoyed a piece of my pizza while hot and fresh (for accurate review purposes only haha), but it was intended to be for my family 90 minutes away. It warmed up perfectly at home in the oven and the taste and texture compared to the fresh piece I ate earlier. The thin, crispy crust supports the plentiful cheese and toppings. I would like to eat a meal at Ignotz's next time I visit that area.

This is dining in Italy

By Katiemom43 |

I went there with friends for lunch. I've been to Italy a number of times + this is the real thing! I had veal limone which was not on the menu but the girl said, "of course you can have that. Ethereal sauce + seasoning were all outstanding. A serving of pasta with a great red sauce came with. All in all, it's an outstanding restaurant.

Excellent food

By Teena D |

If you want good food, a pleasent atmosphere, and great service, this is your place. We've been coming here for YEARS. Every dish I have ever had here is excellent. And if you don't see what you want on the menu, ask for it and they will make it for you. They have a dish that is portabello mushroom ravioli in Alfredo sauce that I have dreams about. HA. (this dish is not always available) They'll top anything with some grilled shrimp, so kick up you dinner alot by asking for it. It's nice to sit by the front windows in the summer time. This is one of our favs when we are in the mood for Italian.

Excellent Food from Wonderful Owners with Great Staff

By JeffnJulie |

If you want a real Little Italy experience, this is your place. We felt like we stepped into one of the amazing restaurants in Italy with the friendly owners and staff. You are treated like family. The food was excellent. The roasted garlic, olive oil and Parmesan cheese for the bread was a real treat! We had the stuffed gnocchi with vodka sauce with a side of meat balls and the homemade lasagna . The gnocchi literally melted in your mouth. The lasagna had a wonderful blend of noodles, meat, cheese and sauce. Our waitress Karen helped us pick our dishes and took incredible care of us. The entire serving staff never missed a beat with refilling water and packing our leftovers. To end the meal, they bring you fresh chocolate covered cherries. This is a small intimate authentic Italian restaurant that you will not want to miss. The owner Roger came to our table to introduce himself. His wife squeezed us in to enjoy the wonderful meal despite not having a reservation. It is simply a wonderful place to enjoy great food with a true friendly family Italian atmosphere!

Valentine's Day treat

By susan c |

My husband and I love the restaurants on Oakely Street, tucked away like a gem from the past. We had not tried Ignotz, and wanted to give it a shot. Being it was Valentine's Day and we ahd no reservation, we weren't sure what to expect. But, they seemed to have one side of the restaurant they were using for 'walk ins' and one side for reservations. Fine for us. We were greeted with a smile, while Frank Sinatra played n the backgroud... We could sit were we wanted, candlelit tables, flowers, very nice. The food was delightful.. We enjoyed it so much. And when we ordered cannoli's for dessert our server told us "No, I want you to try my favorite".. And we were onboard!! It was chocolate heaven.. gelato, cocoa, whipped cream, a delight we were so happy she recommended it. We will certainly go back to Ignotz.. it was lovely.

Overall Excellent Experience

Delicious Italian food. Cozy ambiance. Family owned - owner came over to our table to make sure everyhing was fine. He and the staff couldn't do enough for us - they were great.

A little too familiar but very good

By Jame G. |

The food is excellent. It is above average Italian. Clearly it’s family and not a chain. My one criticism is that the service could be a bit more professional. I am still the customer and paying a decent amount for dinner. Let’s not forget that. Otherwise, it’s great.

Eat here if you are in the area!

By krich112 |

this place has the most amazing food i have ever had! anything on their menu is a good choice but my personal favorite is the chicken al a tippi! Please go here if you get a chance, you wont be disappointed! The chocolate covered cherries at the end Of dinner are superb as well.

A great, romantic restaurant

By James B |

Ignotz is just the place for a romantic anniverary dinner. It's like a small Italian cafe in in Chicago. The food is excellent, but the ambience is what sell's it. I've been there for two anniversaries as well as numerous special event dinners.

Nestled in the neighborhood...great Italian food!

By Sharon455 |

I was introduced to this tiny Italian restaurant neatly tucked in a side street off Western several years ago. It has become a family favorite for birthdays, and our ultimate favorite is anything Vesuvio!! I love the fish, this time, whitefish, and my daughter had the Chicken Vesuvio...her all time favorite. One of the evening specials was a rib eye steak served with mushrooms and shrimp....my husband loved it! The baked clams were the best....even the breads are delicious..served warm with roasted garlic, oil and cheese, but don't eat too much, you will not have room for the large entree's! The owner visits every table, making sure you are having a wonderful dining experience. Celebrating a birthday is lots of fun...the owner has everyone in the restaurant sing for you..and they serve you a special dessert.....you must try the tiramisu....unbelievable! Nice wine list, friendly attentive service...small, so a bit noisy, but a great place for fantastic food and a good evening with lots of laughter and smiling faces all around! To top a perfect experience off in style, chocolate dipped cherries!

I thought I was back in Italy!

By Terry U |

This is a quaint, small restaurant with authentic Italian food near Cermak and Western. If you are looking for spacious, this is not it, but that is part of the charm. Walls are muraled and there are original wood floors. You enter through a narrow gangway to the rear of the building. A nice bar if you have to wait. We had reservations and were seated right away. I was packed. If you like ROASTED GARLIC...even more reason to go. We kept asking for more and they kept bringing it. Fine Wine-Awesome food.. Bathrooms are downstairs, just like Italy. This was not my first visit and love it every time. Ciao!

The Best Italian Restaurant in Chicaho

By Jim B |

Ignotz is the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. Roger and Joan do it right. Great staff. Great service. The Baked Lasagna and meat sauce is delicious. Outstanding soups du jour. Hand made chocolate covered cherries are a great treat. Great portion size and great value.

good home made food.

Quaint restaurant, with great good in an old neighborhood. The pasta are fresh and delicious. The prices are reasonable.

Continued Excellence

By James B |

Ignotz Ristorante never fails to please. Nestled in the Heart of Italy neighborhood in Chicago, it offers a wonderful, warm environment to have excellent Italian cuisine. Starting with the roasted garlic and fresh bread, through the pasta and main courses, Ignotz' food is delicious and comforting. I have eaten there many times over the past five years and continue to enjoy the atmosphere and food.

A nice little surprise

By Jenny L |

A bit out of the way but Ignotz is well worth the trip! I knew we were going to like it just by the phone call to make the reservation.Very personable... We were greeted at the door with introductions and handshakes from the owner. Our waitress was great as well as very nice and the food was outstanding! I recommend the Shrimp Versace. The shrimp were large and VERY fresh. Great little touches~ A roasted garlic bulb with the bread serving and chocolate dipped cherries in whipped cream as a finish. Ambience was delightful.... :-)

One of our favorites!

By Trishp617 |

This place. Where to start? Those cozy atmosphere when you walk in? The roasted garlic that comes out with the bread? Any appetizer on the menu? The excellent drinks? Excellent service? To die for food? All of it. From beginning to end, an Italian delight that will make you crave more. Portions are HUGE. I am a stickler for meatballs. Nobody can beat my Grandma's (off the boat Italian) meatballs. Ignotz made me think she was still alive and working in their kitchen! We make a special trip into the heart of Italy at least once a month to visit. Go. Don't wait. But save some roasted garlic for us!!

Charming little place in Little Italy

By boltsnnuts |

Ignotz is not the name you would imagine for a quaint little Italian restaurant in an authentic, ethnic neighborhood. The entry down the long narrow walkway is reminiscent of a speakeasy from days gone by. But the light is truly at the end of the tunnel. Our first visit a few years ago was impulsive, but this one was planned with the help of Groupon. A very good choice the second time around. Friendly servers, a very hands-on owner, and good food offer diners a unique choice. Servings are large and reasonably priced and the roasted garlic with hot bread sticks a nice touch. Unfortunately the baked clams were overcooked, but the topping was yummy. Absolutely try the gnocci, even as a side. Pillows from heaven. The wine selection could be improved with a few more choices for those seeking adventure. That being said, overall it is a great little place for some very good food.

WOW !!! unbelievable

By ibwhte |

Cozy Italian restaurant with great food. The Amatriciana was great, authentic recipe and “al dente” pasta. Good wines, had a very good glass of Amarone

Chicago Style Italian at its best

By Janice K |

After the Wicked matinée on Saturday we had reservations for 12 for dinner. We collected 2 more and called to add to our reservation. It was no problem. We arrived and were greeted and seated in no time with a selection of appetizers and beverages. While there were other choices we ate Italian all the way! The portions were huge, the bruschetta (sp?) was great and everyone's meal was very good. They were quick to box our leftovers (did I mention the portions were huge?) and all 14 of us left in a carb induced coma. We met the owner on the way out and he thanked us for coming. Nice place, good food, nice waitress (said she worked there for 11 years) and we will be back for another fine Italian Coma.

An Absolute Gem!

By Michael O |

The atmosphere, service, and personal touches made my first trip to Ignotz tremendous! We will make this a monthly stop as the appetizers, wine, entrees and service were all phenomenal!

You won't find it any better!

By sheridanroad |

Three or four chicken dishes require 25/30 minutes for preparation but it is worth the wait. Chicken Cacciatore with Vesuvio potatoes was, with the exception of a great steak, the best dinner I have had in a restaurant in a long time. Coupled with an excellent Caesar salad and a glass of Merlot, you could not ask for a better meal. On previous visits we have found the veal and pasta dishes to also be very good. The service by our waitress Julie was excellent! If we lived closer (it's a 45 minute drive for us) we would have dinner there a couple of times a month.

The absolute BEST Italian Restaurant in Chicago!

By dalewurfel |

Ww have been to this restaurant many times over the past 15 years. It is an Italian Restaurant that is truly authentic and every meal made with lots of love and passion. Owner Roger is always proud and present to give his customers the very best dining experience possible. Love this place… a must try when in Chitown!!

Fantastic from Start to Finish

By Pauline Dengler |

Ignotz is as good as it gets!! We are long time customers of this Italian gem of a restaurant that we absolutely adore. I can honestly say that I have never, ever had anything but fantastic service and a fabulous meal here. This past weekend we hosted our fourth party next door at Ignotz One Door South. It is a very nice room with exposed brick walls, large windows that open to the street, and a well stocked bar. It is a perfect venue for graduation, christening and birthday parties! We had a buffet dinner of Fried Calamari, Pizza Bread, Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce, Ignotz Special Salad, Chicken Vesuvio with Potatoes, Sausage and Peppers and Sautéed Spinach, all of our favorite dished. Everything was absolutely delicious and plentiful. Roger, the owner, was very hands on making sure everything was just perfect for my daughters graduation party. He makes you feel at home and always makes sure that your dinner or event is nothing short of perfect. You will catch him most nights in the restaurant moving from table to table chatting with his diners and making sure everything is to their liking. Lastly, It doesn't matter how good the food is if the service is bad. The servers at Ignotz are the best...friendly, attentive and they know their menu! Next time you are in the mood for some authentic Italian food stop in at Ignotz, you will become a customer for life.

Pleasant experience

By Jaaldi |

On a tip from a friend whose son lives in the area, my wife and I tried Ignotz. We had a very nice experience. Being in the burbs with kids for awhile now, we find time precious and are not so hip anymore. We stepped out of our comfort zone and are glad we did. I actually was looking for something, anything that was not up to par and could not find it. The setting is cozy but you could bring the fam. The soup/salad nice. The calamari was the best I've had. The entrees were very good--flavorful and not too salty. The desserts and cappucino good. The service was sincere and nicely timed. There are several restuarants on this street that look nice as well. Easy to get to from I-55. Enjoy.

A swell place

By Drocton |

We went to Ignotz last evening because we had a Groupon. It was relatively close to where we live so we thought we'd give it a try. Everything was excellent. It is not a large restaurant, but we arrived around 6:30, before the crowds arrived, and were seated right away. Our server brought excellent bread and bread sticks to our table along with oven roasted garlic for our olive oil and parmesan dip. Our antipasto was one of the best I've had, My chicken cacciatore (I/2 chicken) was delicious. It came with a plate of pasta with marinara. My wife had lasagna which was also delicious. We were served frozen cherries dipped in chocolate with a side of whipped cream as a complimentary desert. A wonderful evening. We'll be back.

Walk up the gangway

By John M |

Step back in time for fantastic authentic Italian. Ignotz serves some of the best food on Oakley St, the food is delicious and the portions are gigantic. Try the tender veal parmesan smothered in cheese with a glass of Chianti. The dining room is cozy and a great place to bring a date, you will not be disappointed.

Great Italian food.

By tcpoloman |

Very small restaurant but very homey feel. The food was Outstanding and the service was great too. Drinks were strong and the bartender was very friendly.

Hidden treasure

By Estelle S |

Was there on a Saturday. It is pretty loud mainly because it is small. Food was great! Authentic Italian homemade food. I had the chicken vezuvio! Fabulous. Highly recommend it The roasted garlic is delicious. The service was slow but it was pretty busy so it is understandable. Hubby had pasta in vodka sauce and sausage and it was great! Definitely going back.

Great little place.

By KAKLAW |

Great little place. super friendly staff with good food. You may wait for a table in a small space by the door, but you're made to feel welcome and you don't notice the wait.

Nothing special

By a1detect |

Really wanted to like this quaint neighborhood restaurant but just didn't happen. Visited on a recent weekend, had reservation and was seated immediately. The bread and garlic appeared but the bread was cold and not fresh and warm like I had read about. In addition, our waitress spilled some of our bottle of wine while pouring, no apology and it sat there the whole visit. Pasta was fine, however, it always annoys me when restaurants nickle and dime you. paid extra for soup and for the vodka sauce(not worth the extra price). Overall just ok wouldn't return

Excellent!

By Stanislav L |

The food was excellent and the service was excellent. The best raviolis I have ever had. Great knowledgeable staff and old school Italian ambiance!

very good Italian food and atmosphere

By Ted F |

We had our Christmas office dinner at Ignotz Ristorante last week. From the start, the wait staff was very attentive to our needs and removed empty cups/bottles/dishes from the table right along. First came the bread and baked garlic. Then we gave our orders for a variety of appetizers and they were served hot. The calamari, mussels, and other appetizers were well received and eaten right up. There was a wait for the main courses but given that the restaurant was packed and we were a party of 20, that was fine. We had great conversation. The main courses were delivered at the same time. I had the rigatoni with chicken and pesto sauce and it was excellent. Others had veal and seafood and everyone raved about how good they were. A few had the cannelonis for desert and mentioned how good they were. Overall, everything was very good and everyone had a good time. I will definitely go back with my wife to enjoy this gem of a restaurant.

Like Being in Italy

By D R |

Fantastic service! The best! Really small restaurant. Reminded us so much of Italy. The food was the best. Stuffed gnocchi with Vodka sauce, recommended by the super friendly & efficient waitress Karen was out of this world. She said the best tiramsu around and she was not kidding. Soup was excellent and so was the fried calamari. We had the Merlot from Sicily, which had a different but very, very delicious taste. Family owned. We can't wait to go back. Easy valet parking or some spots on the street if you walk a little bit. GO! You won't be sorry! Extremely polite bus boys, too!

Stop in for Delicious

By John M |

Went to dinner with friend from Rome, he ordered off the menu and the food was delicious , just the way he requested . Food was over the top,!from calamari to the whitefish Vesuvius . If visiting Oakley St. For awesome Italian, stop by Ignotz's , you will not be disappointed !

Great Italian Place

Roger, the owner of the restaurant, is very friendly and will try to satisfy all your wishes. The food was very delicious. I’d recommend the homemade tiramisu. Would go there again!

My favorite in da Hood

By John M |

Prejudice, my favorite restaurant on Oakley, I live in the neighborhood. I have dined at all in the hood and I love ignotzs. The staff are like family and the food, bread, salads delicious. I'm not big on da pizza, but that is purely personal, many love it. Closed Monday.

Irresistible Italian

By jmdamas |

It has been a long time since we last dined at Ignotz Ristorante. Let me say this, they have not lost a beat! The food, service and atmosphere are all beyond compare. Yes, it is a small room, so reservations will be helpful. However, your dinner will worth the wait if you don't have a reservation. The servers are all extremely nice and helpful. The drinks are very reasonably priced. The main star is, of course, the food. We had a appetizers of fried gnocchi with blue cheese crumbles and also the bruschetta. Fabulous! Then came the soup or salad. Delicious. The only problem was that we were full already! We did manage to taste some of our tasty and very large entrees, veal Alexis and walleye franchise, but took most of it home. The price point is very reasonable for such excellent food and service. Worth several repeat visits!

NEVER DISAPPOINTS

Always a great experience everytime we stop here Best place to be during Father's day weekend for the street fest Italiana Great staff owner and food It's a long trip from Homer Glen but WELL worth it Title says it ALL

I was hoping for more

By Michael B |

I read a lot of good reviews so my hopes were high. Starting with the good: the owner greeted us at the door, the waitress was friendly and attentive (though there were only 2 other tables occupied for lunch). The chocolate cherries at the end were a nice touch. The roasted garlic bulb is a great idea (I have had it at a French place before). I combined the garlic with butter on the bread and I could not stop eating it. The murals on the wall are a nice touch. The wine (Suave Veneto, I think) was good. Now for the not so good: I ordered the gnocchi (with vodka sauce). It's the first time I had tem (based on the reviews) but I have to tell you, it did not do anything for me. The texture seemed too soft. The sauce was fine but it all was a little bland to me. Once again, I do not have anything to compare directly so maybe gnocchi is just not for me. I also got the tiramisu (Which I love). It was previously frozen and had not defrosted completely, so it was too cold to really rate. I should probably give the place another shot.

First And Last Visit, Disappointing From Start To Finish

By Chicagoan |

The lady and I visited Ignotz on a Sunday night. Apologies for verbosity, but I'd like to explain the experience in detail. It seemed like a good night to get some comfort food, rainy and cold. We had enjoyed a visit to Bacchanalia, next door to Ignotz, some time ago, and wanted to try Ignotz. Reviews were mixed on "Check, Please" video clips, and other websites, but people gave high marks to the pizza and pasta. I went to OpenTable.com to see about a reservation, and a table for 2 was available at 5:30, 5:45, 6:00, 6:15, and so on. Weather was bad, so I didn't think a reservation would be needed. Valet parking was available for $7, and normally, I'd park on the street, most people would, but it was raining, so I let the young man take the car. He immediately said, "Do you have an automatic transmission?" I do, but was a bit astonished that any valet parker couldn't drive a stick shift. This has never happened before, although it didn't create a snag. When we entered, the lady with big hair asked if we had a reservation. I said no, didn't bother explaining the above process I went through, and my reasoning, and she seated us promptly at a table for two next to the fireplace. This was very nice, and the high point of the evening. The big hair waitress arrived quickly, and the lady ordered a glass of Chianti from the wine list. "We're out of that." The lady ordered a glass of a different Chianti, and the waitress left, without asking me if I wanted anything to drink. She returned shortly, the lady ordered eggplant parmigiana with a side of sauteed spinach, and I ordered linguine with clams in a white sauce, also a house salad with Italian dressing. The lady and I chatted for 15 or 20 minutes, but still no glass of wine. We stopped a bus person to ask, and shortly, the big hair lady arrived with the glass of wine and an apology, but still didn't ask if I cared for anything to drink. We laughed. My salad was good-sized and fresh, I'd rate it an A normally, but it was drowning in enough vinegar to fill a coffee cup. I said nothing. The lady was hungry, and said that her eggplant parmigiana in an arrabiata sauce (spicy tomato-based sauce) was tasty, although a bit too much red pepper. She liked the roasted garlic that came with the bread. My linguine with clams was borderline satisfactory, although soaking in too much sauce, which was on the bland side, I like linguine with clams in a white sauce, I order that everywhere, and the Ignotz version comes in way down the list. By comparison, Bella Notte's is one of the best in Chicago, as is Coco Pazzo Cafe's. We split an order of generic cannoli for dessert, and the lady asked for another glass of wine, which came promptly the 2d time around. The big hair waitress didn't ask if we wanted coffee afterwards, but we didn't. All in all, a forgettable dinner. $53 plus tax, gratuity, and valet parking fee is not a high price to pay, we didn't complain about anything, but everything was forgettable. One would think that a waitress learns early on that all sins are forgiven if one's glass of wine arrives promptly. In short, no disasters, but Ignotz is not on my list of the top 30 Italian restaurants in Chicago, probably not in my top 50. There are 4 or 5 better Italian restaurants within half a block. For those who do care to try it, restaurant.com has discount tickets available, $4 gets you a $15 discount if you spend $50.

Well worth a visit

By Journey37960 |

We've been enjoying Ignotz Ristorante for a little over two years and it's become one of our favorites in a city of fabulous choices. Dishes are always fresh and innovative (try the seafood mixed grill), the service is terrific and the location charming. They treat customers as good friends on the first visit, by the second visit you'll be known as "regulars." The bar is a great pre-dinner spot -- check out the animated "Dino" doll.

Great Meal

By Enja747 |

We decided to meet our son and girlfriend at Ignotz for dinner. Our dinner were fantastic. Went with seafood over pasta special and it was delicious. My son's girlfriend went with Chicken Vesivio and loved it. Everyone else had traditional pasta dishes and said they were the best. The atmosphere is what we were looking for. The owner was very gracious host and greeted everyone at their tables. This would be a restaurant we would visit again when visiting with my son. Its worth driving for.

Great food

By Janice W |

It is a small restaurant but very quaint. The food is made to order and all homemade. The sauce on the Steak Bernardo is to die for. You will be asking for more bread to soak up the sauce. The Vesuvio ( Pork Chops) are very moist and the sauce is not greasy like some places. It is always nice for the owner Roger to come to the table to see how the food was. I will give it 5 star!

FANTASTIC

By James M |

My wife and I along with our son and daughter-in-law celebrated his birthday on July 23 at Ignotz. The food was out of this world, service fantastic and the atmosphere of the old Italian neighborhood was very charming. Had not been in the city for diner for many years, but will definitely be going back to Ignotz.

This is Chicago

By jemfromwales |

If you want a neighborhood dose of Chicago, this is the place to come. It is friendly and simple and good italian feel. You feel like you’re in a movie. But this is not fancy. As i said. It is simple. I had grilles calamari, chicken marsala which came with soup, salad, pasta. Two glasses of wine. $55 including tip. Not cheap but not extortionate. I would take people from out of town here

Date night

By John R |

We just had a wonderful dinner! Jen was our server and her recommendations were perfect. Gnocchi and tilapia cooked to order (not as part of menu) were outstanding. Will be back soon.

Great food, great service

Visited with another couple before the Christmas tree lighting downtown. The waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable. She made suggestions based on our questions and information she gathered from us. The food was outstanding and priced reasonably

Great Local Spot

Really enjoyed the local vibe. Small restaurant with great food. Will definitely be returning to this hidden spot. Even my picky eaters enjoyed!

Great place off the beaten path

By Daybreak42 |

We started off the the appetizer special of sausage and broccoli vesuvio. It was amazing. I could have made a meal off of that. We had the seafood arrabiata and veal olivia. The portions very generous. Food is authentic. Dinner was excellent. The owner Rodger is very friendly and welcoming. Lisa, our waitress was great. We finished off with capuchin and a cannoli. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back.

I can't believe I found a piece of home !

So where do I begin .. Ok I'll start with the place itself is , adorable. I love how everything about makes me feel like if I'm in New York, queens.. Is just like this one . Very cozy and delicious authentic Italian food. The first time we went I had penne aka vodka it was deeeelicious !! You know is going to be good when they take their time with the food .. Enjoy the roasted garlic in oil and hot bread they give you to start .. The bruschetta was to die for ,you will love it . Calamari excellent not chewy. The first thing you will notice is how awesome your waitress is I hope I got her name right, Lisa ,wow she will make your wait pleasant . She's so sweet and such a people person and funny too . Oh by the way if you have a dish in mind they can make it for you even if it's not in the menu . The chicken in the lemon butter sauce is so good .. And chicken with artichoke something is Good. Oh my favorite part of the restaurant is the fact that the owner comes out and greets you and makes sure everything is ok . Just like the restaurant we used to go to in New York .. So please go you will love it is perfect for a date specially since you hear very good frank Sinatra music in the background .. Enjoy I hope it was helpful

Romantic atmosphere, great food and service!

By needmorevacatime |

My husband took me here for my birthday last night, it was fantastic. We walked in very early and sat at the bar for a drink and appetizer of zucchini (awesome!), started talking to the owner who bought us a drink as soon as we sat down. After looking at the menu, we decided to stay for dinner. Very romantic and cozy atmosphere and the service was great. I had the chicken olivia and my husband had the chicken vesuvio, we ate everything! Quaint neighborhood, too, like something out of a movie set. Highly recommend, can't wait to go back.

Excellent food, warm and friendly

By gddo |

I love this place! So does my 4 year old. The bread is to die for. They bring out baked garlic along with the usual olive oil/parmesan cheese and butter. They also will bring out some marinara sauce to dip the bread. The entrees are very good, although a bit pricey. To top it off, you get chocolate covered maraschino cherries with whipped cream along with your check.

The “ other little Italy “

By tzaio |

Our “ go to “ place to bring friends/family who want great authentic Italian food. Ignotz Ristorante is not even close to where I live but soooo worth the trip. Love everything about this place. The atmosphere, the drinks, the food and the service are all worth while without breaking the bank. I highly recommend Ignotz and look forward to returning.

Dinner in Heart of Italy

By rvaccarello |

Just entering the place we felt the Italian love and sense of famiglia. They didn't have anything available since we dropped in at the last minute but the waitress said as long as we could be done in 90 minutes. We thought of course that's easy. Well they started us with the bread and head of roasted garlic. Wow that was a start of a great meal with the owner dropping by twice to see how we were doing. I got the stuffed mostaccioli which I could not stop eating. The other at my table had the specials, one was eggplant parm with a twist pancetta and mozzarella stacked. Both got the spaghetti side dish and could not believe how great it was. Every noodle had the essence of the sauce infused into it. Huge servings so we all had left overs and vowed to make this a routine stop. Best Italian in Chicago

Quaint, charming out of the way place. Decent wine list, reasonably priced food and great staff. Feels more like you are visiting friends than eating in a restaurant.
