Nice ambiance, but the bill a bit severe!

By jzeee |

Came here a couple of times recently and sat in the side courtyard area which was pleasant with heaters in the evenings. I have also previously sat indoors at the bar which is nice fa drink. On the first of our recent visits we had wine and shared a pizza - which was good with a very pleasant and efficient Italian waitress. On the second of our visits we had starters along with a minestrone soup which although tasted fine, didn't stand out from the crowd and was quite a small portion especially by USA standards. The pasta mains again fairly small portion and whilst fine it also didn't stand out . The waiter on this occasion was over zealous in pouring our wine ..perhaps hoping we would quickly run out and purchase more which of course we did! I would say it's a nice restaurant to visit if you like having a conversation over a drink or meal as it's not too noisy with music etc -suitable for business, leisure or families with pizza and pasta selections, but the bill was a bit severe! Tiramisu - very good and large portion ! :-)

Wasted trip

By Herb Superb |

We drove for 1 hour on a recommendation from an acquaintance. He said the food was good Italian. Had reservations for a booth at 5:30 Saturday night. The Hostess were super great in honoring our request. We had brought our own wine and as advertised a $15.00 corkage. Our Server informed us the corkage was $20.00 and we said it was advertised at $15.00. The young male manager informed us that it was Trip Advisors mistake and the they would not honor it. We started with the Bread Basket, 4 small slices of bread on a tray $2.00. It is advertised to serve 4 on the menu, guess they are correct if you have 4 people, 1 slice each. Then we had the Bruschetta, was coarsely chopped Roma tomatoes, with maybe a little Basil and vinegar. No oil on our request. Then we ordered the Pasta Bolognese, wide, flat pasta with a warm sauce. The meal cooled very fast and eating warm pasta is not my favorite thing. I give 5 stars to the hostesses and our server, Michela. We will stay in our valley and have real , served hot, Italian dinner. Just my opinion.

Truly awful food in a nice setting... save your money and don't go

By Andrew W |

I've been going to various locations of Il Fornaio for 30 years, starting in Beverly Hills and then on to Palo Alto, Seattle, San Diego and Santa Monica (as well as Irvine and Pasadena, come to think of it). Obviously, I liked this chain enough to come back a lot. I never expected greatness, just a good-looking room with above average service. Alas, I've seen the food quality decline at this chain over the years but boy, this was a new low. Honestly, it was the worst Italian food I have ever had in any restaurant. And this place is not cheap. We had a chicken entree that tasted like a hockey puck (an unseasoned hockey puck, for that matter) but ever worse was the most awful Bolognese with pasta imaginable that looked and tasted like ketchup with ground beef thrown on it at the last minute as a garnish. How could they serve this? Does anyone care in the kitchen? Does management know or care? Just appalling. I want my money back. I was with a friend on a special occasion so I couldn't make a fuss but this food should have been thrown out, not served to loyal customers. The room looks nice (they always do) and the service was fine but they absolutely have to start over in the kitchen. It was a truly awful meal. The place was half-empty when I was there (Joey next door was packed) so I guess I'm not the only who's noticed how bad things have gotten. It's a pity, too. I know what this chain used to be and I have the feeling the owners do too but just stopped caring.

Lovely place

By jfd |

Opened just 3 weeks ago in the new Topanga Village complex. This is large eatery with very nice décor although somewhat noisy. Did not enjoy the music but the food was good. Large bar area and outdoor space. Reservations needed at busy hours. Somewhat pricey but good size portions. Had the veal which was very tasty. The spumoni was delicious. Good service, free 3 hour parking which is validated.

Topical Italian dinner

By hisham T |

The place in very down town ,need reservation, prices are reasonable, service are good but very casual way. Food is tasty and good quantity. Don't use the tables in what they call "quite soon", it's not good ,facing the main door ,close to neglecting ares and cold

Great bar area for happy hour

By Deb B |

Our company had a happy hour and dinner at this restaurant recently. The bar area is very nice. With our drinks we had flat breads, bruschetta and calamari. The flat bread was very good. For dinner we had a sample of salads, pizzas, pasta and roasted chicken with vegetables. The pizza was especially good - thin crust with fresh toppings. Dinner was topped with a small dish of vanilla gelato - tasty! Nice atmosphere with friendly staff.

Very - Ordinary

By Anna B |

Had dinner here with friends a few weeks ago. Location is great and the decor impressive as you walk in. But the menu was really quite blar! Struggled to find something that appealed to me. Settled on a chicken dish as it came with a side of spinach. Very uninspiring. The chicken wasn't well seasoned and a little uncooked in my opinion, and was pretty tasteless, the spinach was OK but the rosemary roasted potatoes again, tasted like nothing! No one was overly delighted with their selection. The pasta was overcooked and over sauced and generally the experience was ordinary. The only overwhelming part of the evening was the bill - REALLY EXPENSIVE! Not somewhere I will give a second chance to....

nice patio seating area

By Tom B |

I was there for my niece's rehearsal dinner two weeks ago. The entire party sat outside on the patio. This turned out very nice. Food was good and plentiful. Cosmo cocktail was great! Took a long while for desert to be served but this was not the fault of the restaurant; it was the wish of my niece's new mother-in-law, who was footing the bill. The dessert was well worth the wait.

New to Woodland Hills

By Misty K |

A few of the folks from my work and I stopped by for lunch one day. I had the salmon and the others had pizza to share. They also order a few other items to share. The service was average and for me the food was just ok. It was a little pricy but the atmosphere was nice. The outdoor seating area was very pretty and the decor was great.

Anniversary dinner

By Jennnayyy |

We dined here for our anniversary. Our waitress was spectacular, everyone we encountered was professional. Hubby had the Conchilglie and I had the Grigliata Mista (pictured). Both were delicious! Our desserts were excellent too. My only complaint was that the calamari was very chewy but the rest of my dinner made up for it.

Happy hour

By explore71521 |

Great happy hour. Pizza for $6 , unreal. Good beer and wine. The atmosphere is upscale. Service was good.

Dinner with my wife.

By Al P |

We were staying at Residence Inn nearby and were referred to Il Fornaio so we gave it a try. What a nice find. Great atmosphere and great food. We had a nice dinner for 2 and a glass of wine each for under $100. Hard to beat. Would definitely go back. Also we had there gluten free pasta which was done very well.

Great patio setting, nice Italian food!

By luvintotravel |

My cousin and I stopped here for lunch, they have a wonderful patio area, and the inside of the restaurant is very nicely done too! But it was a sunny day, so we choose the patio. The first item that was brought to our table was a variety of these wonderful, freshly baked breads, so nice to have a variety of selections to choose from, and we couldn't resist them! My cousin chose the Antipasti della casa dish, it had a sampling of so many items, bruschetta, salami, wonderful cheese, grilled artichoke & eggplant and zucchini, olives she was in heaven over this dish! The cost was $18.00, and she took home some of it, which they boxed up very nicely for us. I chose a chicken sandwich, with bacon, also had lettuce and tomatoes on it, and I asked them if they would grill it for me, which they were most accommodating . The service was impeccable here! Geoffrey was our main server, he was extremely polite, made us feel very comfortable, and did a wonderful job of explaining some of the items on the menu for us! We also ordered the cannoli to go, and they were very authentic and delicious! This restaurant was definitely a good choice, it made for a wonderful, relaxing afternoon; it would be nice to try it for dinner sometime too!

Excellent Italian Pasta and Pizza!

By Parviz M |

We went there for a birthday dinner celebration and we all enjoyed the food and also the Il Fornaio nice ambiance and service. Our server was extremely nice and started our celebration with some nice wine and Italian bread and olive oil dip. We could just eat the bread and olive oil dip, so yummy. Il Fornaio always has the best Italian bread and olive oil dip. It was rather easy to select the entrees from the relatively short menu and we knew everything was good. We ordered Fradiavola pizza (with sausage, mushroom, roasted bell peppers, red onions,.....), Capellini pasta (with angel hair pasta, tomatoes, garlic, marinara, ....) and Conchiglie pasta (with shell pasta, chicken breast, broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes,....). As we expected, all the three dishes were super delicious and we cleaned up our plates really good. As a birthday surprise, we also got a very nice desert (a combination of vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a few coffee cookies). A very nice gesture and also very delicious. The service was excellent and we highly recommend the place.

If you like Italian food, this is the only place in Woodland Hills for you

By Sonova_Beach |

What an excellent dining experience! We were promptly seated, our waiter was instantly attentive, and eager to help to answer our questions about the menu and the daily specials. The atmosphere and accommodations are comfortable and not crowded. To our pleasure, service follows the European tradition of treating dining as an experience to be enjoyed and savored. The meal was a leisurely affair, and although we had a number of appetizers and main course dishes, we didn’t feel as if we were being pushed along, just to vacate a table. The wait staff was attentive, prompt, and unobtrusive. The meals were superbly prepared. the presentations were mouthwatering. This is the best Italian experience we have had in the States in a very long time, I must say! Another pleasant surprise: although this restaurant is in a fashionably upscale shopping mall, the prices were not out of line with other, stand-alone restaurants. In sum, then, the atmosphere is amazing and comfortable, the staff is excellently trained, and the food is superb. We will definitely return. Try it, and you will, too!

Poor experience. Calamari was overcooked and the main wasn’t hot enough. Poor knowledge of beers and what was available

By George |

Poor experience. Calamari was brutally overcooked. Main wasn’t hot enough knowledge of available beers non existent.

Nice Place

By Randy2353 |

Upper end Italian restaurant. Very nice, large dining room. Of course has a bar with tables and counters around the bar. Has a nice selection of food but not overwhelming. Service is very good, and friendly. Prices are higher than your local pizza restaurant. But you will not be let down.

Fine Italian food

By Joseph N |

Great atmosphere, service and food. Parking can be difficult, but worth the valet price. Located in an easy to get to area. They also have an outdoor patio if you like.

Good, BH location is better.

By Jeff N |

I've been going to the Beverly Hills location for over 10 years and absolutely love it! When I heard a location is coming to the valley, I was super excited. I have now been there twice, and it's good, but nearly as great as the BH location. The service is nice in both places, but I still prefer the other location for everything for food and service.

Go for the food, not the service!!!!

By Props555 |

Waited a long time for a table, then when I checked in I was told sorry we skipped over your name. Way too long for the waiter to finally get to us. Twice they brought our order to the table next to us, even though their were already finished eating. The food however was very good. Go for the food not the service!!!!

good, clean, bright modern restaurant with good food

By Betsie49 |

I went with a group of friends for a retirement celebration. The Italian restaurant is bright, nice, wood, tables, etc. The service at the bar was good and to start the restaurant offered good service. It was a Friday at 5:30 so as it got later in the evening, the service seemed to drift off a bit, They were very busy, however and May/June is a busy time of year. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, the house wine was good and at a fair price. Pasta was excellent and cooked al dente. Most everyone had a dessert and they looked good and were enjoyed. They did have a hard time refilling water glasses and coffee. Parking if valet or if you park in the structure, get your card validated. It cost $3,00.

Date Night

By Isunwin |

This restaurant is located at the Westfield Topanga in Woodland Hills. It’s a lovely outdoor mall with shops, restaurants, man made pond with lots of seating areas. As far as our dining experience, we had a 815pm reservation and were seated promptly. We chose to sit outdoors because it was a warm, summer night. For dinner, I ordered the house salad and capellini. My husband ordered a chicken pasta dish with broccoli and sundried tomato’s. We were both satisfied with our dishes, but neither were terrific. Service was excellent.

Food was great as always but service had a problem

By csimmamps |

The food was excellent as always but our server just didn't get anything right on the order from drinks to food. I guess there's always that risk however I wouldn't not go because the food is worth it

Mothers day lunch!

By Allen K |

We have been to this location before for Dinner and we loved it, the atmosphere is great and servers and very courteous, inside is nicely done and inviting, we decided to go there for mother's day last Sunday around 1:30 pm which was great and not too busy, Unfortunately we had to wait 55 minutes till our food arrived by then we where full already so we did not enjoy the food that much, Calamari for appetizer is a must and the rest of the menu is ok, nothing to dye for, for the amount of money we paid i figured they should of had a better selection on their menu for mother's day. besides the wait we love like this place because after eating you can walk around the outdoor mall with great shops.

Once again hit out of the park

By csimmamps |

Always a pleasure special this month is Sicilian food well worth coming in definitely the in sceen in Woodland Hills

Great food, great service

By Eve M |

This restaurant just barely opened so you can expect that, perhaps, they won't have it all together for a few months or so. Surprisingly, this wasn't the case. Sure, the place was crawling with management, but it really looked like the staff was experienced and service oriented. The food was excellent!

Excellent for a Chain Restaurant

By RalphVentura |

Normally I don't visit chain restaurants, but Il Fornaio does it right. We dined at the Woodland Hills location. Parking was bit of a pain. We made easy on line reservations for a Saturday night. Service was very good and our bread and drinks were brought promptly. After scanning the menu, the waiter suggested an off menu item filet of sole in lemon caper sauce that was really good. My dinner companion had the Branzino. A large well cooked piece of sea bass, but for some reason this delicate fish was subjected to tomato sauce that over powered the fish. The sides were just ok. We had Zabaione that was excellent. Nice thing about it was if was under 400 calories. Looking forward to trying other dishes in the future. BTW, they validate parking.

New restaurant , some kinks but a GREAT meal

By Judith A |

Decided to visit this new mall and take in a late lunch. As a go-to place Il Fornaio was right there. Why not. This had just opened a few weeks ago so some forgiveness. Out server, Diane- fabulous and made the wait, issues with no bread, still baking in the oven and s really lousy caesar salad, we opted for lentil soup. The best! Also chicken, pizza, pasta bolognese superb. Give it a shot as they are consistently putting out great food in all their spots. Hopefully with time and some better operations this will be a dining experience without any kinks.

Unexpectedly, very good!

By LATraveller_12 |

It is our general impression that Italian restaurants are overrated and overpriced. You cannot justify $30 for a bowl of pasta! But contrary to the stereotype, Il Fornaio proved to be way above the average. I guess it is the special menu on Italian regions that makes it apart. Last night it was about Piemonte region. You get to taste such different specialities and they make it easier for you by offering a 3 course menu for a fixed price. We got the beef tartare, the rabbit ragu ravioli, the homemade pasta topped with bone marrow, the delicious Arctic char in a wine and truffle sauce, the short ribs, and so on. And as an exception, there was nothing left to take out! And we did not feel sick like after other super-dinners. The tasting flight - 3 various Piemonte wines, was a generous portion, 3oz each, for a very decent price. The service was excellent, they tried to satisfy all our requests. One of the best family dinner!

Double Oops

By Econouvelle |

We decided to meet old friends in The Village. Hoping to grab a bite and catch up, we chose Il Fornaio for its elegant and relatively quiet atmosphere. The generous bar area includes some high tables perfect for conversation. We were not immediately given menus but soon settled on some cocktails and wine to start. I ordered a lemon drop. Rather than arriving with sugar on the rim (some restaurants actually ask if you would like sugar or not), there was salt on rim. The bartender brought a new drink and apologized when I brought the error to her attention. We decided to try the bruschetta appetizer. Since there were only three pieces per appetizer we requested two orders. While the toast was crunchy and there were plenty of tomato chunks we all doubted there was any garlic. Any bruschetta we had had at other restaurants typically included garlic (which we now sorely missed). After this second disappointment we opted not to order dinner. However, it was nice to be able to linger and talk. My husband had ordered a second glass of wine but later confessed that it had contained pieces of cork. Triple oops?

Good eats, but service is lacking

By bgraham107 |

If you are willing to wait an hour to get your order in, and if you do not mind dealing with an over worked waiter, you will be rewarded with excellent food. It is not that they do not care, but they need to hire more help.but the food is good!

A very satisfied Italian food fanatic

By Manal T |

This restaurant most definitely did not disappoint, the food was great, the service was even better, and the ambiance was also very nice... Had a wonderful time with my family there!

Just OK

By Lookingforsun4 |

An average food option. Better than an Olive Garden but not as good as a ma pa Italian place. Service was also spotty. Order was not correct first time and they changed no problem though.

Good food and Happy Hour

By Craig-World-Travelle |

Went for Happy Hour (till 7pm) and stayed for dinner. Food was good - it was Sicilian month and ordered off that special menu. Nice $6 happy hour wines by the glass - 2 whites and 2 reds. Restaurant has a nice look and feel and service is good. I'm going to join their dining program so we will be back soon. Note: They validate parking.

Popular spot

By FM6565 |

Il Fornario is a good chain. This one is no exception. I picked a pasta special: umbrian pasta with funghi porcini and black truffle shavings. Delicious. The regular dishes come in larger portions but it was tasty nvertheless. Great seafood apetizer sampler.

Great Italian in the SF valley.

By sandraV8206IK |

Great atmosphere, excellent food and prompt service. Outdoor tables provide for a low key European feel and our group enjoyed ourselves very much. We will be back soon!

Authentic Italian In An Upscale Setting

Excited to try out the new Il Fornaio in Woodland Hills! Using the freshest ingredients and traditional cooking techniques, each Il Fornaio offers a wide variety of premium-quality Italian food paired with great wines and cocktails in beautiful settings located in California, Las Vegas, Seattle, Denver and Reston, Virginia. Excellent Italian

By Freejinn |

This is not the over-the-top, saucy, cheesy, oversalted, giant plate of pasta you get elsewhere. Everything was excellent, often understated. Simple, classic, delicious. I had a chicken salad. My grandmother had the salmon salad. Both were very well done, with just the right amount of dressing and very fresh ingredients. Because it was my cousin's birthday the waiter gave her a complimentary slice of tiramisu which was heavenly - rich without being overbearing. I can't wait to go again... but first I'll have to save up. The whole meal - 4 people, each with an entree and 3 iced teas came out to $107. Worth it.

We had a great family dinner!

By MinkHollowFarm |

We have come here twice now, once with another couple and once with our family. The food and atmosphere is very nice. Service seems to vary as sometimes this place gets very busy. If you're in a hurry, you might want to come another time. But we wanted a nice relaxed dinner with plenty of time to eat and have family conversation. The menu is suited for various budgets. You can have anywhere from a bowl of soup, pizza, pasta, to more expensive meat and fish dishes. It helps to have reservations, if you will be dining at popular times. We plan to return again in the future and I don't see how you could go wrong recommending this fine Italian restaurant.

Caprese Salad Nightmare

By SLAGE |

Service was slow despite only a few tables of people. My friends ordered a Panini Sandwich with french fries. The sandwiches were good but the fries were all small pieces and greasy. (more like fry bits) I ordered a Caprese Salad that came, 3 half of tomatoes (not warm, barely soft) with a huge chunck of Mozzarella on each, with olive oil. The presentation looked great but as Gordon Ramsey would say....how the BLEEP am I supposed to eat this? I put on a bib as did my friend next to me because she was worried about being in the splash zone and attempted to eat this master piece. It was slippery and impossible to cut and eat. The tomato was hard and just too much work to try and stay clean. I ate left over greasy fry bits from my friends and we decided that there were plenty other restaurants to try.

Happy it's here

By freemaee |

Make sure to make a reservation especially on the weekend. We loved the big round tables on the patio. Food selection is kind of typical. I wasn't crazy about the calamari ( very generic) but loved their fresh bread and my beets salad. The pizza looked great. The kids pasta portion was big and my son enjoyed it. Good wine selection. Service was friendly and attentive. By 8 pm the place was packed. I would like to try the outside cocktail area next time- it looked very pretty.

Great new find at the Westfield Village

By Isunwin |

Enjoyed a nice dinner with my mom. The restaurant is in a new hip location, food and service were both very good. It doesn't offer a huge menu, but I ordered the capellini and it was delicious. We also started with a caprese salad with pesto that was very good. The only downfall, is the parking. We got a spot right in front, but had no idea that you had to pay in advance at a kiosk. Not the restaurants fault, but it was confusing. I will definitely return.

Delicious Italian food.

By Maxima5 |

The best Italian food I have had for a long time. This is a huge restaurant with the kitchen, and many chefs in full view. There is also a long, well stocked cocktail bar. We had the Happy Hour deal which is great value (see picture). Large glass of wine just $6 very good - suggest the Italian sangiovese. All the dishes were top quality with exceptionally fresh ingredients - beautifully presented on the plate, and of course the bread was superb. All four of us agreed the whole meal could not be faulted. Once the servers got themselves sorted out, we were very happy. A great restaurant. No doubt about it.

Great addition to the nieghborhood

By Bruin76 |

New Westfield shopping center with a Costco. Numerous restaurants. Validated parking and valet parking. (We got gas at Costco, then shopped at Costco and got 3 hour validation, then had dinner.) Typical Il Fornaio menu. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very attentive staff including visit by manager. I had the lasagna which was very good. DW had veal, also very good. Not inexpensive. $105 for two including two glasses of wine.

Formal Dining in the Valley

By Anjali A |

A relaxed yet formal ambience. An imposing entry door, you can see the charming outdoor seating to the left. The dining room is large, providing space for beautiful table settings. There is a full service bar. The meal begins with freshly baked bread. There is an extensive menu. The appetizers are “ample enough to share”. There are vegetarian choices. Where possible, they try to accommodate vegetarian requests by removing the meat (for example in sandwiches). If you are looking for freshly cooked meals this is the place to go. Besides the freshly baked bread, soups, dressings and fresh pasta are also made on site. The dishes are subtly flavored. We tried the Cappellacci and were delighted by the blend of flavors with crispy sage on the side. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

Go for the Burrata pizza

By Chachairis |

A friend and I decided to take advantage of the free corkage promo. We got a beet salad which was very nice and the Burrata pizza, which was delicious and I would get it again. We also got the seafood pasta, which also was very good. I would probably get that again, too. Service was attentive, but didn't rush us and allowed us to enjoy our wine.

Not what it used to be

By w0rldtraveler08 |

Il Fornaio used to be a great restaurant but sadly not anymore. If it was managed properly and the chefs were passionate about creating delicious dishes once again it could rise from the ashes. The pizzas are mediocre at best. Every dish that I have had the past few times has been too salty. I had a. “Eggplant Parmesan “ that besides be tiny was too salty and way over cooked. Do they ever taste the food? I’ve been served soup that isn’t hot. I have beet salad with walnuts and the walnuts were not fresh. The calamari is soggy. The bread is sometimes fresh and other times stale but always served cold and they now charge for it. The Caesar salad from the grocery store is better. The happy hour menu is quite limited and the last few times I’ve been there during happy hour it was dead as a door nail. I do not pleasure in criticizing a restaurant that I have been going to and enjoying for many years. Il Fornaio has a mountain of potential but management needs to realize that opportunity and start tasting the food and making the changes that would once again serve delicious Italian cuisine.

Great Seafood

By Lionel P |

Popped in for lunch yesterday with cousins. Great seafood platter (special) and delicious wine. I love this chain it's always high quality food and service. Never disappointed.

Excellent food

By Deborah F |

I went to the Il Fornaio with a little trepidation based on the reviews here - short story, the food was excellent and so was the service. No worries needed! There was plenty of seating for our early pre 6pm reserved time - no waiting. The decor had a nice balance od comfort, trendy, and Christmas. We asked for ten minutes with just bread (fresh, with olive oil and basalmic) to finish a business conversation before choosing a meal, which worked out nicely. Seating areas were a little close for work talk if the place had been full; but no one was put next to us so that worked out. I enjoyed a special risotto with sea food, cooked exactly right. No soggy grains here! Our waiter kept our waters, wines, and coffees full. All was delicious. None of us could manage dessert, alas. Overall a good meal, not cheap but worth it. I will keep this place on my list for my next business trip out this way.

Real Italian food in Woodland Hills

By darylmarx |

This restaurant just opened up last week at the new mall at Westfield Village. We haven't been able to get into it because of the crowds, however last night we were able to be seated. I expected a noisy establishment because of the industrial architecture, however, it was surprisingly quiet. The portions were large and the wait staff doting!! You can make a reservation in advance to either eat inside, or outside. Let them know which you prefer.

Didder with Family

By CsC |

We met our family here for dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. Good food, good drinks and atmosphere.

Good Italian

By LisaM08 |

The food was very good however, didn't appreciate the upsell on the wine selection. Also the atmosphere was pleasant but the noise level was a bit loud and not very intimate for the type of restaurant it could be.

Great Place For an Anniversary

By Midnight_ECL |

The restaurant is located in The Westfield Village. Such a great location. The place itself was pretty large in size, but somehow it keeps a small and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend the Pennoni plateaus an appetizer. The Brasato plate was incredible. Plus the Carne special plate was a good choice for meat lovers. Wife and I celebrated our anniversary there. So glad we did.

Elevated yet Simple Italian

By Dracoschnauzer Dad |

For a chain Il Fornaio sets a very high standard for delicious Italian food. The menu choices are few, only about 6-8 selections in each course. But what is on the menu has been highly perfected to provide the utmost flavor. Pasta selections are offered in entree and smaller 1st course sizes. The paccheri is exceptional. The super wide noodles with bacon tomato vodka cream sauce will make you want to lick the porcelain off the plate to get every last drop. The ravioli Luciano is also very delicious. The new waitstaff is incredibly friendly, inviting and professional.

Wow

By csimmamps |

Fantastic menu excellent food great service wonderful environment this is definitely a place to eat I've got a great bar and some of the most creative Italian foods don't forget zaballoni for desert

Upscale Chain Offers Excellent Food

By MillboroGirl |

Il Fornaio is also located in Beverly Hills (where there is a bakery attached) and I think there is one in Las Vegas (not sure about that). This is an upscale, Italian eatery with a wonderfully diverse menu (large and small plates/portions) and a lovely ambiance. I met a longtime friend for lunch. Our outstanding waiter Leo was beyond charming and attentive. My friend is older and has some health issues, she asked for a pillow--it appeared. She asked for her meal to be prepared in certain way--it was done. All with grace and charm and flourish. The food is excellent, the restaurant itself is spacious and modern with patio seating. The only downside is the parking situation which is in a word, awful.

Good Italian food and great atmosphere

By Eden4K |

I love this chain and have eaten in different ones over the years. It's my second visit since they've opened this restaurant and happy they did in our neighborhood, as they have gluten free options in their menu. Service is attentive and professional. It's nice to seat in the patio and see the people walk by. As I eat only gluten free, I've asked for a special pasta which was not on a menu and they had no problem with it. It was cooked to perfection! Great place!

In hindsight, we should have returned our dinner.

By Chachairis |

I’m not that girl, but last night was a return worthy dinner. Sad, but true. It was my husbands birthday and it was 8:30 and cold outside, so we thought comfort food and a nice cozy atmosphere. Sushi or Italian? So we came here. We ordered a margarita pizza and the housemade gnocchi. The food came rather quickly. So it was rather surprising that the pizza was cold and the cheese was already congealed. It was so (over) cooked into the dough that we couldn’t even scrape the cheese off (hubby’s a little lactose intolerant). Ok. It was late. We were hungry. Let’s try the gnocchi. The sauce was good; the gnocchi were hard little nuggets of flour. I’ve had my share of homemade gnocchi and they should be light and pillowy. We powered through it but I hate to say this, but Cost Plus pre-made gnocchi are better. We were so disappointed. We’ve been here numerous times and have always had nice meals. You may ask why I gave this two stars. Fair enough. Great front desk and wait staff. Great ambience. And my glass of Montepulciano.

Good food but limited menu

By Jeannie D |

I tried the new Il Fornaio in Woodland Hills at the Village the other night for dinner. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is very good. This particular Il Fornaio has a very limited menu with only about 5 entree's to choose from. I ordered the special, filet of sole and it was good. I was told it came with roasted potatoes, and broccolini and carrots. When it arrived it had the roasted potatoes but it also had overcooked spinach. When I asked about the vegetables, they brought me an extra side without charge of the promised broccolini and carrots. The carrots were almost not cooked and like bricks. The restaurant is very nice, but as I know a bit overpriced.

Noelia - a gem

We have been coming to Il fornaio in Woodland Hills for years now. As always, also this time the food was delicious and the ambience was great. Noelia, our waitress, was super attentive, provided excellent recommendations and made our dining experience absolutely delightful! Thank you, Noelia!

this restaurant has good ambience and pretty good food however thats where it ends. This used to be my favorite spot in the sf valley until about 11/2 years ago they changed management. Since then Ive had nothing but problems with them. I come at least once a week since its been opened in the village.Yesterday I was literally told they don't want our business because I complained about their hostess. We came to the restaurant the lady at the front said please you can go ahead and sit on the patio. We sat down and within 2 minutes a hostess with her arms crossed above her chest and attitude rudely confronted us and asked how did you get here.We said the lady at the front she said well she's new and doesn't know.So we said how are we to know. Then she heard me telling my husband in hebrew and asked rudely what language. I told her and she continued to be even more rude.Basically she did not like the fact we were israelis. She told us we had to move yet the whole patio was empty. I said please can I speak to your manager. Then 2 manager came out with her and her attitude embarrassing us in front of the other clientele. We told them the story and one manager didn't listen and kept telling me what a nice girl she was. She may be but to us she was not. After they left I didn't feel comfortable wit this so I went inside and asked to speak with the lady manageress the male manager told me no you're not going to speak to her and take your business elsewhere. Do not go here they don't deserve the business and its an establishment that says basically you're guilty until you prove your innocence .Service is horrific food is mediocre and attitude on steroids. In this pandemic they are many establishments who would welcome you and treat you like you would treat them and nobody has the right to ask you your personal business such as which language is that? guard wisely and don't go!!!!!!

Just above average

Great location, very nice setup especially at night to walk through the slightly quirky area with lights, small ponds etc. Food wise, I'm stuck between average and very good, it's hard to do a bad pizza/past surely?. Nice ambience inside and good layout.

Sunday Brunch

By sweetie764 |

The restaurant is located in the Village on Topanga Canyon. This is a very beautiful kind of a mall that has alot of restaurants and small shops, Costco and few service stores as well. Nail Salon/spa, etc. The server was very sweet and very welcoming. We ordered Bellini's, sounded good for brunch.. except the server dropped on the glasses on the table and it was everywhere. She was very apologetic and that is it, not a great start to brunch. The food was just okay. Nothing great. I had a omelet with a few vegetables along with fruit. My friend has a frittata.. which was alright too. The manager never came by to say I am sorry and if they can do anything for us.. The BH location is better and SF is far more better.
