Worth going inside

By Christophe_JSB |

Staying nearby I had never pushed the door because it looked plain and touristic from outside. Being invited I eventually spent an evening there and I must admit it is much better than I expected : warm atmosphere, very decent Italian food and nice staff.

Mostly like a chain Italian place

By Stew M |

We had heard good things about the new Italian spot that used to be Pazzo. We were seated right away and found a bottle of wine we wanted. They did not have the wine we wanted and went with a newer vintage of the same wine. Bad choice as the wine was too young and didn't open up well. Our food was pretty generic Italian and not overly flavorful, but was overly seasoned. The server was just so so and we had better interactions with one of the other staff who was very funny. Too many good options in Portland to return here.

Amazing Restaurant, Chef, and Waiter Sam

By Robert N |

We just got married and we called and asked if they would accommodate our gluten-free, dairy-free diet. The chef sent out an amazing gifted appetizer stunningly fabulous scallops and greens. Our incredible waiter Sam sent complimentary Champagne and took such good care of us and our special needs diet (along with the chef). Since we called ahead of time the chef prepared gluten-free and dairy-free pasta and other dishes. The way the chef and Sam took of us we already feel like family and we can’t wait to come back. We highly recommend Il Solito.

Breakfast snowed in downtown

By Chad L |

We had a great breakfast with exceptional service while we were snowed in downtown over the holidays. The staff was very friendly and accommodating with special regards to Vance and Dillon. Would reccomend and I will definitly be back.

Delicious!!!

By Minigotogo |

Warm and inviting restaurant. Staff was very nice and welcoming. Pasta tasted great! Cooked very well! However, wished the portions were bigger since it was really good! Would come back again!

Good breakfast, excellent service

By RusPat_704 |

This is the restaurant connected to the Klimpton Vintage. It was a good choice for breakfast. My wife had the avacado toast, one of her best ever. I had the typical egg, bacon and toast. Everything came quickly and was hot. The server was attentive never letting coffee get cold or checking on us.

Cozy place for drinks

By Laura S |

When looking for a place to have a glass of wine after dinner. I checked out a few places that were just not quite right. Some were stuffy, others too loud, or too empty. Il Solito was a Goldilocks spot...just right, with a charming ambiance, good music, and friendly attentive staff. They just reopened on Nov. 1. Next trip to Portland I hope to return for a tasty meal!

Great for breakfast - not open for lunch or dinner

By Kevin Campbell |

We were staying at the Kimpton Hotel Vintage, and so this was an easy choice for breakfast. Bright, comfortable setting with good street views. Excellent menu of breakfast choices, from which I chose the Brisket Hash - which was terrific. The table also had a breakfast Burrito and French Toast, both of which were empty plates by the time we were done. All our food had the hallmarks of having been prepared carefully, from scratch. Service was personable, professional, and engaging - an excellent way to start the day.

Delicious breakfast

By Raphael |

A simple breakfast of yogurt and granola with a warm bagel with cream cheese was delicious. The server was superb!

Good food. Great service.

By Nadine H |

We stoppedI here on our way to a Timbers game. It was early so the restaurant was not yet open for dinner. We sat in the bar and ate from the ample happy hour menu. We had the antipasto board to start. It included a nice combination of meats, cheese and olives. We followed this with garlic knots, spaghetti and meatballs and chicken Parmesan sandwich. We shared all of it and enough, maybe a little more than enough, for two people. The meatballs were delicious as with the garlic knots. The marinara sauce on the spaghetti was good but not outstanding. The chicken Parmesan sandwich had too much bread and breading for my taste but my spouse liked it. It was covered with the same marinara as the spaghetti. Our server was fantastic.

Good food

By stefnicole |

We ate dinner here after a long day of travel purely due to convenience as it was located in our hotel. Service was great, they accommodated my vegan friend by serving her pasta with marinara (minus the meatballs) but we were surprised to find it cost twice my simple noodles with butter. Regardless, it tasted good. We came again in the morning for breakfast. The avocado toast was hefty with good crusty bread. Was a good breakfast for a decent price.

SAM AND MANAGEMENT TEAM

By Jocelyn Montelongo |

Wowww!! All I have to say, given the circumstances of the blizzard that passed. The restaurant continued to stay open, the host was nice, the bartender Colette expressed they were limited on produce as they haven’t received any in the last three days. My old fashioned was great!! Our server SAM was very attentive and while attending other tables at the same time he managed to take well care of our business dinner, party of 10. Being the only server. Food was so delicious even with a limited menu.

Interesting Menu, Very Good Food

By David M |

Fascinating menu-- lots of choices that neither my wife nor I had heard of before. This was good, since we'd wanted to go to a restaurant that was new to us. Il Solito turned out to be an excellent choice. Because we were not outrageously hungry we only ordered pasta and wine, but that turned out to be quite adequate. The portions were generous and tasty, with the chestnut ravioli being quite satisfying for my wife. I had the squid ink bucatini with tuna and anchovy. I like anchovies a lot, so I thought it was terrific; if you, like many people, aren't a fan of anchovies don't order this one! There are plenty of other appealing choices. The wine menu is well varied, but not inexpensive. We had a very nice 2016 Barbera that we will look for again. This is a fairly large restaurant, but it wasn't crowded at all on Sunday evening at 5:15. It felt comfortable and the decor was interesting and pleasant. I especially enjoyed the display of plates on one of the walls. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. Cedar, our server, did a good job without being intrusive; I appreciated that.

Identity crisis, great servers

By Catherine T |

Excellent servers, horrid dining music, hodge podge decor. WAY too much chili flakes in the "Italian" meatballs. Revamping entire menu in mid Feb, so worth revisiting. Should add Dumpling week ravioli; they were excellent!

Excellent Italian Cuisine

By Joan M |

The food here was amazing. We started with the stuffed eggplant and the penne alla vodka was sumptuous. The pasta was cooked to perfection. The tomato cream sauce and the fennel sausage worked wonderfully together. What a gem of a restaurant!!

Best meal in Portland

By Adam L |

This was the best meal we had in a weeklong stay in Portland. If you're someone who normally shies away from restaurants in hotels, don't be afraid of this one. We went on Thanksgiving evening but had the normal menu instead of the Thanksgiving menu. Every single dish we tried, starting with the focaccia appetizer, was incredible. I am not normally a focaccia fan, but this one was incredible. Entrees that stood out were shrimp scampi and the chicken marsala, but we got four different dishes and every person said they would get their choice again. Service was informed and friendly. Atmosphere was inviting. Would come here again in a second.

Open Thanksgiving!!!!

Super greeting at door by Host-Mgr. Server was great. Food was very good. Wine list needs some help. Value right in line

Nice place!

By craftkc1 |

We were walking around looking for a place to eat, stopped in here and was pleased with what we had. After a big lunch, we were not starving, but needed something, to tide us over. I had a salad, my husband had pasta and my sister in law had tortellini. It was very good. We were a little surprised that there wasn't more choices, but we did enjoy what we had.

Average restaurant in the Kimpton Vintage Hotel lobby

By Lori M |

We spent the weekend at the Kimpton Vintage Hotel in Portland. Our room included breakfast at Il Solito restaurant as well as a $20 certificate towards dinner during our stay. We had dinner the first night around 6pm. The restaurant wasn't very full but it had a nice atmosphere so we thought we'd try it. My husband enjoyed a chicken pasta dish that was very good. I had spaghetti and meatballs and found it to be so rich I could barely eat it. We had breakfast both mornings at the restaurant. They had good but rather odd options as it seemed several included Mama Lil's sweet peppers, which I love but not necessarily for breakfast, or served with cheese. The server the first morning wasn't particularly helpful either. We asked about the art district and where it was located. He said he wasn't from Portland and didn't know. I would expect someone working in a hotel restaurant to be familiar with the local attractions that are within a few blocks of the hotel. He didn't offer to find out either. I wouldn't likely return to the restaurant although I did enjoy the hotel and would stay there again.

nothing too exciting

By Ken M |

I always like to find new Italian spots so when my brother came to town I decided to try Il Solitio. It is clearly a business spot. We were originally seated in the bar area but it was so loud, even though uncrowded, that we asked to be moved to the dining area. The Calamari appetizer was tough and too salty. My Fusilli was too rich for my tastes and my brother said his pork chop was just okay. The staff was friendly but worked too hard on the upsell.. There are better choices to be sure.

Lively atmosphere

By David S |

Excellent service and fun upbeat location. Great food selections and craft cocktails offered. Not terribly expensive but not cheap either

Same old Pazzo’s .... read on!

By BarefootBuddies |

Pro: server very sweet. Con’s: -controlling hostess. Place half empty and boy, she was hell bent on seating us where she wanted us to sit! Never mind that we kindly asked for a different table. Quite unfriendly once we made our simple request. -ladies, if you are forced to sit near the front door, keep your down coat on. Every time the door opens, you are hit with a blast of cold air! Very bad design. -home style serving (whether you like it or not) is their deal. Order more, eat more, and we make more money! -We were served Romain lettuce in our Cesar salad even AFTER our server told us that because of the E. coli scare, the Romain was replaced with arugula. I went home hoping I wouldn’t get sick... The hostess is the number #1 reason we won’t go back! The restaurant comes first, not the customer! Enough said....

Convenient to Kimpton Vintage, shopping

By Carylgb2020 |

Stopped by for Happy Hour and dinner. Outdoor sidewalk seating is available as well as indoor seating with lots of windows to people watch as Il Solito is located on a busy corner. Don’t miss the hand pulled fried mozzarella sticks with marinara. They are the best we have ever eaten! We also ordered a cheese plate during happy hour which was delicious and the meat and cheese sampler before dinner. Would recommend they put more cheese on the tray and less olives or at least pit the olives, but that is just our taste. The shrimp and corn ravioli was also an excellent choice! They hand make their pasta so it can take a few minutes longer for pasta dishes but well worth the wait! The server brought out an order of garlic knots for us as he said our pasta was taking a bit longer than expected, they were served with marinara and were delicious! Service was excellent, was highly recommend Il Solito!

Dinner

By Heather M |

Checked in for a light dinner post cross country travel. I didn’t want anything heavy so I ordered the Cesar salad with kale and white sardines. Perfect! It was a generous portion (I finished it all) and perfectly balanced. Paired it with a dry pino gris for a wonderful meal. It was so good I didn’t even get a photo of it. Service was wonderful and my window seat on the couch was comfy and afforded me a place to people watch. Thumbs up!

Poor Food, Poor Service

By Tracey B |

Have eaten at several Italian spots in town; this was the worst lunch experience I've had. All the food was stale tasting & greasy, except Minestrone soup, which wasn't even cooked. Server was slow & aloof; never came back except to deliver the check and didn't ask how the food was or if there was an issue with the uneaten food. No Manager could be found to discuss. So many better choices in Portland!! Beware false reviews!

Outstanding service, amazing food!!

By robert E |

This has to be one of the best restaurant in town!! The whole staff is consistently super professional, inclusive, friendly, and above all accommodating! My brother and his girlfriend where visiting town, and we wanted a special place without servers who make you feel like they are way too cool to give good service. We came in for brunch, and the staff from the hostess to the server were on point! I had the avocado toast with little peppers and sunny side eggs and the fresh fruit plate. Both dishes were amazing! Clever preparations and presentation of familiar dishes but reinvented with amazing flavor and freshness. Very creative menu, not your typical hotel food. You look at the menu and say yes! I want all of these dishes. Angie, our server, was so prompt and personable. She was preternaturally on point. Really made our brunch something my brother is telling everyone in our hometown is a must visit when in Portland.

Friendly / helpful service and pretty delish pastas!

By P_K_Richardson |

We couldn't decide where to eat, so went into this restaurant because from the outside it looked fun and it was! we sat on the bar side to watch sports and had a delightfully helpful server who gave us her opinions on the menu items and we ordered accordingly and we weren't disappointed. The wine list was decent (nice Italian reds), the fresh pasta was yummy, and the meat courses tasty. Not bad for a spur of the moment choice!

Nice Italian Food in a convenient Downtown Location

By Ruth B |

Enjoyed a romantic evening at this excellent Italian restaurant. The mozzarella sticks appetizer was delicious.I had a Nice light fusili with a wonderful pesto sauce.Simple and very well constructed salad.

Very good service, but food was a little tasteless

By TJSullivan |

Sat outside for brunch at this place on a Sunday. Good menu, and the server was terrific. The interior of the restaurant was pretty standard with good street views. Food was OK, but nothing I would especially recommend. I had the mushroom omelette which was very bland. The honey bacon was popular for half the table, but two of us thought it tasted more like the honey than the bacon. Overall, not a place I would rush back to for food, but seems like a decent place for gathering with friends.

Quiet place but interesting and excellent food

By lmantel |

We went with friends to Il Solito, where they had been several times but it was a first for us. They are a bit pricey compared to our usual spots, but careful choices make for a great meal. We had three appetizers (peas and bacon, olives with pork ragu, and burrata salad) and three primi--salmon gnudi, meatballs and spaghetti, and penne alla vodka. All were excellent. We were celebrating an anniversary, so we also received gratis sips of prosecco and a cold pea soup. Excellent meal and made for a vow to go again.

Good location, menu, service, wine

By Paul H |

Pleasant and conveniently located, menu options very good, service non-obtrusive. We had the quietest table and it was still very loud for a party of 4 healthy people in their early 70s.

Great food.

By Daniel Milan |

I was staying at the hotel that's attached to this restaurant so I actually ate the food about 4 or 5 times and tried different meals every time. No complaints. Everything I tried was really good !

Superlicious!

By gyw |

Just a wonderful experience to celebrate a family birthday dinner. Service: Excellent from hosts to bar/lounge and wait staff. Felt welcomed and appreciated for being there. Food: One might read the menu as basic Italian fare like spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, etc. And then you get an explosion of wonderful flavors in your mouth from the sauces that are NOT simple. Value: We've spent a lot more in other less tasty restaurants in town so again, this place is a homerun. We missed the happy hour so will have to go back and try it out. Definitely coming back for more.

Great food

My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant. The food was excellent. The wine selection was good. We had the corn ravioli with prawns and the cucumber salad.....delicious I would highly recommend this restaurant when you come to Portland.

Dining experience

By JoLynn B |

Our Waiter, Johnny was the best and most personable server we have ever had. Very attentive. Food presentation was great. Timely service with a smile.

We highly recommend this restaurant.

By Arthur Ratliff |

This hotel was connected to the Kimberly Hotel. We usually like to have our meals away from the hotel. However, they gave us a daily credit. The food was delicious. The service was a bit slow due to understaffing. We particularly liked Gabby, the waitress.

Apps to Dinner

By lskirvin |

Situated next to the Kimpton Hotel we arrived just after a huge rush which put the kitchen behind. The manager, wait staff etc were desperate to please and fit us in for a light late dinner and drinks. The restaurant has a certain hustle to it and good street views

Great food and service!

By flyfloats1 |

Great food and service. Had a table of 12 and the service was great. All meals served in a timely fashion as well as attentive servers through out the evening. Thanks Much , will recommend and be back when in Downtown Portland again.

Excellent Italian In Portland

By 247anthonyc |

My wife and I had a great meal at this place today while passing thru Portland. We had the garlic bread "knots" which came with a wonderful Marinara sauce and were heavily dusted with Grano de Parma cheese and a Ceasar Salad (with anchovies) both of which we shared as an appetizer. A good thing too as the salad was very large. Following we had the Rigatoni in Vodka Sauce with peppers, onions and fennel sausage. Again first rate. A bit spicy but not too much. Our server was great too. My ONLY GRIPE and the ONLY REASON for deducting a star is the awful, loud music. It was hard to converse with my wife over dinner given the very crappy, annoying music. When in god's name will restaurants figure out that this obnoxious crap is driving customers away?

Dependably, always seasonal, and often inventive

By esandespdx |

Dining here is always a pleasure. The restaurant bills itself as serving "the usual" -- by which is means traditional Italian-American dishes such as spaghetti and meatballs or chicken parmesan accompanied by garlic bread. It certainly does offer these traditional favorites, but the menu and level of cooking goes well beyond. On a recent visit we enjoyed the warm gardianera appetizer; chicory salad with pears and pecorino; squid ink bucatini with tuna conserva, anchovies, and olives; and pappardelle with a venison, parsnip, and cherry sauce. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. There are two dining room; one more formal, and the other in an informal dining area that includes a bar. Reservations are helpful, but latecomers can often be seated in the bar area. The restaurant is in downtown, in easy walking distance of most major hotels. Whether you go for traditional cooking or something new, you are likely to be pleased.

Good Wine List

By Bill R |

The restaurant opened several months ago so we thought it was time to try it out. We were disappointed. The restaurant's theme is shared dishes. This is not to our liking. There were also communal tables, a fad we do not like. We tried several dishes: Caesar Salad, Prosciutto Melon, Fussilli, Veal Milanese and Buttered Noodles. We shared a bottle of Barbera - Vietti Tre Vigne. The food was average, far less than what we expected. The music was loud so it was difficult to hold a conversation. I don't think we will go back.

5 year Anniversary

By Michael S |

For our 5 year anniversary we stayed at the Mariott city center located directly across the street we had a 9:30 pm reservation on a Saturday night. We asked for a quiet table. The service was good the food was tasty and authentic however we found it to be very loud in there with a couple of large groups partying which threw the mood off. We also noticed 99 percent of the tables have only the ability for couples to aitvaceoss from each other we always want to sit nex to each other which is more comfortable and romantic. We will try it again.

Amazing family style italian food and service

By MarkMaxPayne |

So a group of 5 of us decided to show up after work with no reservation. Silly us you may be thinking. The good news is the staff was very courteous and got us right in and sat us at what I'd consider the best table in the house! The food was amazing. We ordered 3 appetizers and 5 dishes based on the waiter's suggestions. After that we all fell into a food coma. One of the dishes, a pork chop, was perhaps the best I've ever had in my life. The other dishes were great as well. This would be a great place for either a date night or a small team celebration dinner. The large table, although not in a private room, might as well have been given the layout. Looking forward to more meals here!

Authentic

By thomas b |

Very welcoming server, real deal Italian food, & close to downtown hotels & near the river too. Everything was tasty, & drinks were good too, & the bread was yummy too.

Phenomenal Italian tucked away downtown

By mwleejr |

I was a little weary when we decided to eat at a restaurant attached to a hotel since many I’ve been to tend to be overpriced and underwhelming. Il Solito didn’t disappoint. Super friendly service, great hand made pastas and solid cocktails and wine list We had the Caesar salad, garlic knots and three types of pasta ( spaghetti and meatballs, fusilli and rigatoni and everything as delicious. Also a very Posh and cozy dining room. Very happy with our choice

Super friendly and great for brunch

By Applefee |

A lovely little Italian restaurant in the city centre, with a fabulous happy hour menu at brunch time. A great selection of light meals, but prepared with love and attention to detail, just like a la carte. Drinks at great prices too. And of course, the service was just lovely, so warm and welcoming. A definite hit!

Business

Sam was the most amazing server. Please ask for him when you come here plus you will get the best lasagna and Risotto ever. Thank you Sam for your great work and the amazing customer service 🙃

just had lunch-what a mistake

By 200brucel |

I ordered a meatball sub with side salad. My wife ordered a bowl or oxtail/bean/kale soup. After waiting almost 25 minutes for a simple meal, our lunch arrived. My wife remarked that my salad looked like it had coating of ground pepper over it-i hadn't yet tried it. She was correct-this was no vinagrette i had ever tasted before, nor hope to ever again. An inedible mixture of ground pepper and oil. My meatball sub came out room temp-strange since the other dish was simple soup. Oh what soup! Hard to tell if it was good because my wife had a hair in her mouth (not her hair) with the first spoonful. It was sent back. The waiter did offer to replace with another bowl;offer declined. I told the waiter to just bring another non-peppered side salad. Out it came with nothing on it but a bit of olive oil. We then had some vinegar and lemon brought out to make the greens more appealing; the side salad was just comprised of mixed greens but at least fresh. Our first and last time here. Uninspired food and a quirky sort of italian menu. Portland has some excellent restaurants; this was the worst meal i have had in years-ample reason for the restaurant to be mostly empty.

Fantastic Service evening

By Alan Kenneth M |

Our family was in Portland for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Elton John concert (also amazing!!). We asked our hotel concierge for a recommendation for Italian in walking distance and he sent us to here. The food and location was excellent, but what really impressed us was the service staff. It seemed as if the whole staff knew my name, no glass went empty, every request was fulfilled almost before we asked. We would certainly go again and I am happy to recommend it. Sir Elton was pretty good too!

Late night food

By Keith M |

Stopped in after a long trip to Portland, needed a light meal and drinks, didn't disappoint. Had a nice Nice Corleone cocktail, a homemade Caesar salad and a fantastic Italian toast with cheese and tomatoes and balsamic dressing. Great service and a classy atmosphere made for a perfect meal.

Fantastic service! Quality food

By TrailBlazer776072 |

We visited for a late lunch, my first time at this restaurant, though I visit Portland for work often and have stayed at hotels on this block. I was impressed with the combination of congeniality and professionalism of the waitstaff. The food was excellent; we enjoyed the happy hour burger (very inventive) and the lemony fries with spicy aioli were fresh, well-balanced, and addictive. I’ll be back!

Needs to work out some kinks!

By mceuro |

Ate here for both dinner and breakfast as it was easy & attached to my hotel. Both servers were great and super responsive. Impressed at breakfast the waiter who managed the floor entirely by himself. At dinner, disappointed with a very limited wine list, lack of local pours. There was a local wine flight featured but I was told I could not order that by the glass. The Manhattan Nero I started with, however, was wonderful. The croutons on the salad were too big to eat, and tasted like the fryer & grease - not appetizing. After my salad was cleared - it took more than 30 minutes to get my entrée - and it was not a busy night. The waiter proactively addressed this. At dinner & breakfast, the entrées came out on the cold side and eggs on the crab benedict were over cooked per my preference. The waiter had no idea what I was talking about when I told him I had a $10 room credit from the hotel, but he did get it figured out. I was told they recently re-opened this restaurant and have revamped the menu, so I assume many of the issues are due to getting the restaurant up and running again.

Amazing food every time

By shootersaleen |

We have been to this restaurant under the previous name and the current name, and both times it has been just as amazing. great staff, amazing food. I'm currently still in a food coma. We're staying at the nines down the street, and tired of the pretentious attitude of the staff there came here for dinner without reservations and were warmly welcomed and couldn't possibly be happier with our choice. We usually like to try new places, but this will be our Portland dinner destination from here on. Everything either of us ordered, drinks, food, dessert has surpassed our expectations.

Nothing special

By sid0603 |

I selected this place for the last night in Portland with friends. Honestly, it was nothing special. The server recommended an appetizer that would be "life altering." It was average at best. One person in the group ordered a lemon drop martini that was quite sour. We were done with dinner before the server asked how things were and she was able to tell her about it. The portion size of my linguine was small. I left the restaurant a bit hungry still. It wasn't really bad, but wasn't great either.

Gluten free pasta

By RubyDo1956 |

Happy hour dining at its finest. My bar staff Geoffrey suggested the gluten green spaghetti and meatballs. It was actually fetuchine but it was outstanding. Possibly the best gluten pasta I’ve ever had. House made. Toothsome. Delightful. Generous portions. great cocktails and soothing environment. Highly recommend.

To Sigh For

By Michael S |

My wife and I dropped in on this downtown Portland restaurant spur of the moment after attending our daughter's choir concert. Very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food, wine & service. Our waiter Cedar was sweet and knowledgeable and very Portland (slightly off-beat, very kind). The wine list seems spot-on; I had a delicious Nebiollo from Walla Walla recommended by Cedar. Carol had a tasty but reasonably-priced Oregon Pinot with her Halibut Tortelli, which had plenty of good halibut in the filling, with sharp cheese and fresh dill. My dish was the Chicken Marsala, which the waiter announced as the best I'd every have ... That struck me as hyperbole, since I've eaten all over the world, including Italy and Sicily. But it was right up there with the best! Mary's organic chicken, using the drum and thigh for better flavor than a breast, slow-cooked till it falls apart, plenty of good marsala wine in the sauce, nice firm crimini mushrooms, crisp skin, on creamy polenta with great rustic bread to mop the sauce. Yum! Dessert was an inventive "figgy pudding" - essentially a fig flan with candied orange peel & walnut crumble. Strong smooth dark decaf coffee. Sweet dreams!

Tons of energy, great food, experienced bartenders, good value

By MZP232 |

When we first arrived it was happy hour. The bar was lively and the bartenders were entertaining. Jeffery, our bartender, had great suggestions on drinks (he added a little chocolate bitters to our Negroni that really added to the taste without taking away any of the basic flavors) and managed to be efficient yet entertaining. He knew just the right amount of interaction. We got Caesar salads with filet on them and it was to die for - as well as being a good value. The steak was perfectly done (medium), tender, and flavorful. The lettuce was chopped well and easy to eat. The patrons were obviously comfortable and the vibe was friendly. We will definitely go back.

Lovely Italian food

By frannieriggers |

Lovely Italian food and non alcoholic cocktail. Server was very friendly. Lovely low lighting. Food was great and portions a good size, not too big. Sauce was light and well put together not over whelming and gluggy.

Fabulous!

By Amylovesstrawberries |

We were welcomed and treated special from the moment we walked in the door. Great wait staff, very attentive, but not overly attentive. We were able to relax and were not rushed through the whole experience. Delicious food and great desserts! Fabulous! 👍🏻👍🏻

Delicious Food Great Service

By QTPai811 |

I came in on a Tuesday evening, the dining area was decently busy. I was warmly greeted by the hostess and server, Cedars. The food was quite delicious, especially the hand made mozzarella sticks, braised rabbit dish and veggie linguini. Service was on point with a great wine list. I would highly recommend anyone to dine here, you won't regret it

Good option for Italian food

By Razorfish |

My wife and I visited our daughter in Portland and took her to Il Solito for dinner one evening during our trip. It is a stylish restaurant in the Kimpton in downtown Portland. We had an enjoyable dinner. I went the conventional route by having the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was fairly spicy, which I thought was good. In six or seven trips to Portland to visit our daughter, this was the second time we had eaten at an Italian restaurant. Usually when we are in the Northwest we like to have salmon. Il Solito is a good option for Italian.

Enjoyed the atmospere food was just meh

By drewsusa |

Really excited to try the pasta. The service was very slow, bread took forever and the pasta the waitress told my husband to order, because it was there best, my husband didn't like what so ever and we ended up sharing mine. I wouldn't go there whiht high expectations.

Great staff and good food !

By Stephen M |

Great wine selection. Tasty food. Helpful staff. I have nothing else to say but this requites 100 characters so I keep typing, I guess.

Lovely place & good food

By Lscottie |

Lovely northern Italian restaurant. Good bar and wine list. Several specialty cocktail options and the margarita is excellent. Pasta and meat/fish options not huge but plenty to choose from. Accommodate gluten free very well. Have a more formal dining room and less informal area near the bar. Reservations suggested for formal dining area.

PORK STEAK > Anything

By aloisneff |

I had a pork steak here that has had me dreaming of Pork Steaks ever since. It was tender, juicy, and tasted like pig heaven! I will go back just for the Pork!

Fantastic!

By Jack O |

A group of us ate here for a business meeting. We were encouraged to eat family style so we did. There was definitely enough food to share, and it was great. The service was also super!

Nice Place

Great breakfast. Not busy. In a great location and connected to the Kimpton Vintage Hotel. Great service, too.

Breakfast on Sunday a.m. - So nice!

By JenMBoston |

I attended a "test" meal as the hotel was just about to open this brand new restaurant. I had a great egg white omelette, fresh fruit, coffee and juice. Perfectly prepared, great service!

Italian Dinner Date

By C K Trevillyan |

HH was nice and quiet, reasonably priced. Dinner in the main restaurant was not an option, as the Portland Marathon was the following morning. So lots of carb loading. We got a table for two in the bar area, with full menu service. Wonderful foods, many tempting choices. In the end I went with a classic spaghetti and meatballs, with Caesar salad. So very good, meatballs were slightly spicy and just the right size.

Delightful waiter and excellent food and ambiance

By mikaelsen |

I had a wonderful Shrimp Scampi on pasta. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce used to cook the shrimp was light and tasty. I also had a glass of Barbera. A delightful man in his mid-twenties named Johnny waited on me and I have not encountered a waiter as gracious as he is in a long time. I sat in the corner overlooking the intersection that was bustling before the pandemic and is making a slow recovery. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Great evening with group of friends

Whole party of 6 loved everything that was ordered. Great service. One member of group was celiac the home made gluten free pasta was a treat. (And no problems afterward so the kitchen did a great job preventing cross contamination) this was our 3rd visit so felt comfortable suggesting it for the group. No disappointments, would confidently suggest it again everyone was happy. Wine and bar suggestions and menu fantastic and well we all had dessert and after dinner drinks. In the true Italian style we lingered and felt no pressure to leave even though when we left we realised they had been closed for a while...

Nice decor, so so food

The food didn't seem "homecooked" more like that it was some frozen product microwaved with tomato sauce put on. The fair was closer to McDonalds then fine Italian dinning.

Quick Light Meal on a Rainy night

By Jame C |

After a long plan trip to Portland we wanted an early dinner near our hotel, the Nines. This spot was a three minute walk and once we found the entrance we entered a warm and welcoming series of large rooms filled with the aromas of Italian cooking. We were early and the place on a Tuesday evening was not crowded. Our server knew the menu well and pointed us the Little Gem salad with Tuna and the stuffed baked eggplant to meet our quick and light desires. He was right and the freshness of the salad and the steaming cast iron dish of eggplant, cheese, tomato were both delicious. Wines by the glass were varied and the 5 oz pour just right.

Il Solito - "The Usual" - not so usual after all.

Another of Portland's restaurants connected to a downtown hotel. The Kimpton Vintage in this instance, so it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a lively bar and cabaret scene next to, but not intrusive to the dining room during the evening. The dinner menu is somewhat limited, but there is something for all tastes. The kitchen brags that thanks to their new machine, everything pasta, including shapes, is handmade on site. Brag they should, The pasta dishes are superb. And a real treat in a town not famous for Italian food. Deserving mention is the hand-turned prosciutto slicer. The samples are delicious. Beg if you must. If they are making it, the gelato is a great choice for dessert. Also worth mentioning is that when we visited, the Chef stood at the service counter and personally managed the quality control of the dishes. Don't see that very often, but take it as an indication of how seriously these folks take their food. The quality is well earned. The wine list is global and eclectic, meaning it contains a wide variety of decent wines, decently priced, a good mid-range, and some ethereal ones, ethereally priced. Dinner prices (ethereal wine excepted) are very reasonable for the quality. Absolutely worth a trip, especially if one is attending an event at the Schnnitzer.

Dinner after a local event

The food was good and the space has been remodeled. It seems a little colder in decor than I remember the last time we visited and we were seated in an out of way table out of the main seating area. The service was good and the wine list was fairly extensive. We would return to this restaurant because of the location. It is part of the Vintage Hotel and has lunch and dinner service - and a very comfortable bar looking out towards the street.

Great service from a dedicated staff!

I had dinner here last night at the recommendation of the waiter I had a lunch at a nearby restaurant. What a great recommendation! I had a special for the evening, lamb ravioli. The dish was not only creative, but sophisticated. The flavors were complex and exceptionally well balanced. I spoke with the manager, who was extremely attentive and receptive to feedback. Observing the staff, they all were attentive and focused on serving customers. As I am from out of town and this was my first visit to Portland, I had not eaten her before, but if I were local I would certainly come back.

YUMM!

We enjoyed a lovely authenticate Italian meal - the sauce was the best ever. I had a pork rag cannelloni that was absolutely delicious and the portion was just right. I could enjoy every bite and did! There was no room for dessert but I'll bet they were great. My husband actually settled on Spaghetti and Meatballs - now how basic is that? He said it was the best he'd ever eaten and that's saying something because he orders this all the time. Highly recommend this place - so very glad we went.

Super Wine List

We had a lot of fun checking out the Italian wine list. Server didn't need to push the garlic break knots as they can be quite filling.

Some Times The Stars Align

Every once and a while you have a perfect dinner. I think a combination of being a little tired, not eating much all day, coming in out of the cold and rain, and some great food all aligned for me tonight. Had one of those perfect dinners tonight at Il Solito. My waiter was great. The beer was good. The black ink linguine was divine (although very spicy, so beware). The raspberry sorbetto after was great and really set off by the limoncello that was suggested. Could not have been better.

Meh....average for Portland

Having been to Portland a couple of times, I really look forward to the food. We were staying in the Hotel where this restaurant is located and decided to take their recommendation about this choice. We started with the bread, which wasn't the freshest. Then, we all ordered pasta. I had the spaghetti with meatballs. It was really okay. The rest of our party felt the same....all of the pastas were okay. Not a poor meal, but a bit of a disappointment based on my other meals in Portland.

Small but well thought out menu. Pricey but great tasting food, well presented. Would definately go again when next in town.

So, so delicious!!

Oh, to be back at this restaurant for another meal by Chef Matt! Our dinner August 31, 2018 was truly excellent! This menu honors Italian tradition: fresh, simple, quality regional ingredients built into select family recipes! Our dinner experience really began the minute we walked in the door. We were greeted warmly, and walked to our table through a dining room illuminated by soft glowing lights in a black-and-white interior, dark wood tables, shiny silverware and white napkins. This is ambience- creating the mood and mind to enjoy something delicious from the open kitchen. Something wonderful was happening in there and it smelled terrific! The dinner menu is organized and served in the Italian style: Antipasti, Primi, Secondi, Dessert. Each plate is a star to be savored before the next course. This is such a relaxing way to eat. Each plate is prepared and presented family style, portioned just right for the number of people to be served. I note the lovely tableware and serve utensils. It's about detail here. This night our dinner choices were: Caesar Salad, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Pork chop. Each plate was wonderful and authentic- perhaps "our usual" when we return! By authentic, I mean the ingredients are fresh, homemade, and traditional, but also creatively elevated by the talented hand of Chef Matt. I strongly recommend a visit to il Solito for a great Italian meal you will remember. il Solito has been open just about a year, in the same space that was Pazzo which had a delicious reputation before it closed. Come now to il Solito and you will be delighted once again! It's at the corner of Broadway & SW Washington St. in the Kimpton Vintage Hotel, right in downtown Portland. Enjoy!

Had room service late at night. Chose a lovely hamburger on a ciabata roll with fresh tomato, onion and spring mix garnish. . The burger wa cooked the way I ordered it and was sizable and tasty. In all, this was a good late night meal

AMAZING!

Was hesident to have an "Italian" meal in Portland. As I kept walking by this place to and from our hotel, it was the atmosphere of the place that I could see from the street that pulled me in. It was the best dining decision I ever made! From the moment we were seated it was perfection! Lisa our server was so engaging and friendly, all the staff was. Wine list was great, I ordered the Mozzarella sticks, so good and my friend had the beet salad - I had a taste - to die for! Wish I had ordered this! Best spaghetti and meatball -ever! This is a must try dining experience in Portland

Hit or Miss

Came in one afternoon for some wine, and had an awesome bartender and a happy hour cheese plate and cool atmosphere. Had dinner somewhere nearby a few nights later, and decided to come to Il Solito after for desert and wasn't impressed. Desert was OK, but this bartender wasn't as friendly and it was getting closer to closing time I assume (around 9.30) so the place ended up clearing out more quickly.

Dinner after long travel

Found this place close to the hotel. Traditional Italian restaurant. We went for pasta which tasted pretty good with some local beer. I must say I was impressed with the portion of food which was not too big.

Neighborhood Family Italian Trattoria

In downtown Portland Oregon. Friendly family restaurant with large portions of delicious food. A very nice Italian wine list to match the food. The atmosphere is friendly and boisterous and the service is friendly and attentive. The ravioli was perfect.
