Great food - Great wine - Great location

By Jeannie R |

This was a serendipitous find for us. We stumbled upon it looking for a wine to have back in our hotel. The owner, Michael, was very engaging and very knowledgeable about regional wines. After tasting a few we decided to return for dinner the next night. What a delight. Everything was well prepared and the menu was not just the usual fare. We enjoyed our winter dinner but I can’t wait to return in summer also to really enjoy the waterfront location. Come here and enjoy!

By LHLVSTRVL |

While visiting Portland I decided to try this restaurant. My experience was not pleasant. We had a waitress that was I believe on the learning curve and my dinner was less than tasteful and the lasagna which is only served on certain days, was probably the worst tasting I have ever had. No sauce, no cheese and I do not know what the meat was that was in it. Very poor experience, would not return. They also tack on a 20% service charge and also expect a tip on top of that! NO THANK YOU!!!

Great food and view

By AbsolutelyDubrovnik |

Tried this restaurant on a visit to Portland. Nice place, great location - we ate outdoors- and tasty food. Portions large and prices not too high. Very flexible in ensuring we got out on time too.

Absolutely outstanding!!

By StephB |

Absolutely outstanding!! This restaurant is on my MUST visit list! The balsamic reduction is divine! I dream about the caprese salad! Everything I’ve tried has been 5 stars. The owner/chef regularly comes out and explains the history of the dish and what part of Italy it originated in. I have brought my children and he has taught them about the various cheeses and the animals they come from. I can’t recommend Il Terrazzo enough!

Christmas lunch

By Annette V |

My girlfriends and I had a delightful afternoon at our new favorite place. We enjoyed outstanding food, service and friendship (We all felt like we had made a new friend in the owner by the time we left). The owners have worked to provide a special experience at reasonable prices. Bravo!

The Good, the OK, the ehhhh...

By B T |

The Good: Ambience is wonderful. Located on the banks of the Willamette River with a view overlooking a little waterfront marina, the restaurant has a beautiful view, especially at night when the lights of the bridges and buildings reflect onto the water. The staff was pleasant, the owner (I believe) sat us at our lovely window seat & graciously took our photo when we asked for the typical tourist thing (even took the time to take 3 pics to ensure a nice one). But the meal was less stellar. My Carbonara was hugely over salted and even though the menu did state that it was served with Rigatoni, I much prefer Spaghetti as the pasta with this dish. I did have to raise an eyebrow when I was told that the wine that was recommended would go with "every" dish on the menu. Overall I might go for the view, but probably would not return for the food based on this experience.

Intimate spot with excellent wine, pizza and charcuterie + nachos!

By GreatBrain |

We went to Il Terrazzo's next door sister, Riverside Taproom, three times, to watch the Christmas Ships sail out of the marina. The happy hour prices are excellent, bottle of wine & a pizza for $40. It's a tiny, friendly, cozy place with very good food. The bartender runs out the front door, to Il Terrazzo, to get the food. Fun! One night a bunch of wine reps were there, celebrating their holidays. They gave all of my family sips of their amazing wines. I will go back.

Fabulous new restaurant

By TravelingPaul49 |

This is a restaurant which has only been open for 10 weeks and they are doing everything right. We were seated outside on a beautiful evening with a view of the river and the promenade. The service was attentive and excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the dishes, as well as being very roud of their restaurant. We shared a Caprese Salad 3 ways and it was very plentiful. The balsamic had us wiping our plates. For a main I had the scallop pasta which was outstanding. This restaurant is very well priced and an excellent value for the quality and quantity of food

Terrible & under-seasoned food & basically don't bother with it

By Adrian L |

Out of our weekend trip in Oregon, il Terrazzo was basically our low point with a small and limited menu, and not to mention terrible food all around. The only edible dish was the Pasta Bolognese, which was somewhat okay, but was severely under-seasoned. There are plenty of other decent restaurants in the block and do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Portland March Dine Out Month

By pomcam |

The Portland Dine out month took us to II Terrazzo located on the water front. The restaurant had a great ambiance with a nice view of the Willamette River. The staff was very friendly and made the evening for us. The food was very very good! We had a friend in our group that is Gluten Free. II Terrazzo provided her the same pasta dish as the rest of us only made from corn. She was thrilled and said the dish was delicious. Will definitely return to this restaurant and recommend to friends.

Awesome Food

By Nancy Tice |

Wonderful location but the best part is the welcoming feeling you encounter upon entering the restaurant. The owner makes you feel at home. You are in for an amazing Italian meal. I will be going again.

Wonderful and charming!

By VQC |

This happened to be near our hotel. Just walked by and the aromas drew you in. Definitely a place worth trying out. It seemed to be popular with locals. Everyone was friendly, too.

Unhappy with hidden "mandatory" tip

By Deb W |

The food and the service were good, but I am giving Il Terrazzo a mediocre rating because of one thing - a mandatory tip that was added to our bill without any mention of it on the menu or by the waitstaff. I had added a 20% tip to our bill, as our waitress had been very good. When I got home, I discovered that the restaurant had already added a "mandatory" 20% tip to the bill. So I had essentially paid a 40% tip on our meal, including a tip on the tip! Very unhappy to have this slipped onto our bill unannounced!! It took some of the pleasure out of my daughter's birthday outing.

Great place to enjoy food, friends, family

By Gary T |

I really enjoyed the food and outstanding friendly service and vibe -- the wine was especially delicious. Beyond just having daily specials, they spent some time talking to us, learned what we liked, and then put together a delicious meal with wine, dessert, and port, really adding some fun to our dinner.

small quiet excellent food

By hAAydon |

On the River three small rooms, quiet attentive not overbearing service enormous wine list for size very knowledgable owner and ingredients fresh with clear taste

Dinner for 1

By Becky P |

My dinner was delicious. I had a delicious classic daiquiri with the semplice pollo for dinner. The waitress was very nice. She kept coming back to check on me and the dinner was extremely good. I had a very nice dinner and would come back again as I am here 6 days on a business trip.

Quaint Italian Dining

By JR K |

Reservations are a must !!! Spending a few days next door at the River Place so made a reservation for one evening with some family members Small focused restaurant on Italian-cooking with fresh ingredients , lazer focused wine list and nice cocktail menu Service was excellent and the food outta this world!!! What we sampled Lasagna (only available Thursday-Friday) spring vegetable penne, sage buttered ravioli and bolognese with glasses of pinot grigio, sancerre and nebbiolo This is a new place I will be visiting often!!!!

Il Terrazzo - great Italian food on the riverfront in Portland

Il Terrazzo - great Italian food on the riverfront in Portland. Ate outside on a great weather day in Portland. The food was outstanding and the serviced matched the food.

Best meal outside of your Italian Mama’s house

By Thor4816 |

Michael, the owner, made us feel at home from the second we walked in - technically the second we walked by. He chatted us up outside and he was so nice we decided to give the place a try. And were we ever happy we did! Our first, last, and even a few meals in between during our week’s stay. Michael saw I was under the weather and whipped me up some “Italian penicillin”, which is just as good as your nonna’s. I felt like I was at home 3000 miles away. Every course is perfectly prepared and presented and ranges between Italian and French. The best way to describe the atmosphere is upscale casual. Prices are mega affordable - no entree above $24, and the portions are more than ample. Grab a table by the window or outside. You can’t beat that view!

Beautiful view but that was all

By Linda R |

We waited over an hour for a table, during this time there were three empty tables with dirty dishes on them but no customers. After being seated we ordered the Antipasto vegetarian and glass of wine which were both good. The entrees were less delicious, ravioli was undercooked on my plate, my daughter’s dish had rubbery scallops. Both dinner entrees were over $30 and we couldn’t eat them. Too bad this place doesn’t have better management, not only did they lose a lot of business for not cleaning tables and seating more customers but as bad as food was some customers will never return! Sure glad we had a nice view!

Casual Dinner

By Asadullah Kazmi |

Nice quaint place on the river great location and great service/staff. Wine selection limited but quite okay. The food was fair not great but not bad as well. We ordered chicken and bolognese and both were decent. Will I go back again I doubt that but good to go for onetime visit as the location is great.

Could have gotten back to us ALOT sooner.

By Jedimasterkush |

I made a Sunday reservation almost a month ago. this was to be our final night of vacation nice dinner the night before flying home. Two days before the res while on vacation I get a voicemail from Ill Terrazzo saying they stopped doing Sunday res two weeks prior (see pic transcript). Wow they could have gotten back to me weeks earlier since they service had been stopped two weeks prior according to voicemail. Ultimately with the current landscape of fine dining and reservations required in advance we had to settle for a less than satisfactory alternate. Needless to say whole family way bummed.

Riverside View

By MarthaFromAlabama |

We stopped here and sat outside at a sidewalk table with a great view of the river. It was especially nice as it got dark and the lights on the bridge lit up. They have a good craft beer and wine selection. The meat and cheese selection was yummy!

Bad Customer Service!

By Pablo |

They didn't bother to get us seated. We could wait but they want us out! Service crew had an attitude as well :(

Twice in one day!

By Marlon F |

Visiting Portland for a workshop, my wife and I were looking to eat lunch. We came across Il Terrazzo - and the table on the sidewalk overlooking the marina. My wife is a sucker for ambiance... We had some appetizers, a bottle of vinho verde and tried their hamburgers, which were excellent. We found everything creative and exceptionally well prepared. So much so, we checked out the dinner menu and returned a few hours later! At dinner, we ironically sat at the same table, enjoyed another bottle of vinho verde and had dinner. My wife had a yummy salad while I opted for the pasta Bolgnese. Again, the food was creative, well balanced, well plated - clearly someone takes pride in their work in the kitchen! I will say that the service was a tad on the slow'ish side, however for us it was perfect given we were there to savor the experience. I would look forward to eating their again in a heartbeat.

Poor Representation for Portland Dining Month

By Connie C |

Took Family of four for Portland Dining Month. The Waite Staff was disorganized and seemed lost at times. We ordered a bottle which did not arrive until we asked for our wine during the first course. The Pate was very small, tasty and arrived with large slices of bread. Two others had the arugula salad that was good. The problem came when the entrees arrived, two ordered the Cod dish and it was the smallest portion, maybe 2 ounces of fish, I have ever seen sitting in a bowl of fennel soup. Asked the waiter and he just shrugged and said he did not know why it was so small. We had to order a second entree so my niece and husband would have something for dinner. They ordered a salmon Entree off the menu that was a nice size for the two to split. I have never had to ordered a second entree just to enjoy dinner. Go somewhere else as we will not return to this place.

Great find

By mc175003 |

We had a one night stop in Portland and found Il Terrazzo a short walk from our hotel. Although it was a Saturday evening we managed to get a table inside. Service was warm and welcoming. The server recommended a local beer, which was very good. We both had pasta dishes and these were well cooked and delicious.

Lunch with a River View

By Maryann L |

There is inside and outdoor dining here. Both have a river view. Our server was most helpful and friendly. My husband had a small cheese plate. I had a panino and our friends had the Caprese salad. The balsamic dressing was exceptional. This is a lovely area on the river with great views of the marina and Mt. Hood.

Nice glass of wine, lovely view

By kittychi99@yahoo.com |

We enjoyed the wine that was recommended by the bartender and enjoyed sitting at one of the hightop tables outside watching the river activities while it got dark. Lovely evening in Portland!

Outstanding

By Dwayne A |

Wow what a great find when we ran across this place. The Ciambotta was excellent, and The Burrata was awesome. What a gem of a find when we found this place. Anytime we are back in Portland this will be a must visit.

Excellent food, ambience, location

By Michael C |

We stay at the Kimpton River Place on our annual trip to Portland, and after walking by Il Terrazzo several times decided to give it a try. What a find! The owner is a tall genial host who welcomed us as our party walked in. He explained many of the items on the menu and talked about the recent history of the restaurant. He was quite entertaining. More important, the food and drink were excellent. The caesar salad was outstanding, and the chicken marsala was first-rate. The beverages were primo. And the location, right on the river, provides a wonderful view. I would like to try the place in summer, just to experience the view in a different season. The friends who accompanied us are residents of Portland, and they said they will be back to Il Terrazzo. I strongly recommend it for an entertaining experience and fine Italian dining at a reasonable price.

Average Food for Above Average Prices

By Teetravels |

We went with three other couples for dinner. The service was great! The Manhatten was fantastic but our dishes were so average. Their ‘signature’ bolognese dish was full of noodles and little sauce. It was very dry. I got a vegan dish and is was very bland. Their chicken cacciatore with polenta, however, was delicious! I would order that if I go back. I only had one bite, but it was very tasty and delicious!

Very good but inconsistent, staff is nice but but limited knowledge and not as good as the food.

By Winemaker95240 |

The server, pleasant but vague, did not really describe or know the food well. Overall the polenta dishes were superb, the simple pasta too oily but still good and the fish dishes very nice. House olives are great, salads were very good and thoughtful, the wine list is well composed. The view of the river was excellent and elegant. The low point was an expresso, cold with no crema, truly awful, that should have never been brought to the table, sent it back and another was made that was correct, but it should have been gratis at that point. 20% service is added to the bill In summary there are enough positives that I would try this again, hope for a better server and that training will take place.

Very Nice Place

By Amber R |

We really enjoyed our dinner here while visiting Portland. Make a reservation! The food was good the service was friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. We thought the prices were reasonable for the high quality of food and fare. Would recommend.

Birthday

By Mona A |

Great bubbles. Lovely Italian wines. Beautiful presentation and flavorful food. But the best part: personable service.

Great food and view

By Dltrawick |

This was a great find, the food was excellent and the view overlooking the marina was amazing. I had the sea scallops recommended by the waiter and they were awesome. Highly recommend it it if you're in the area.

Absolutely delightful!

By Mary D |

We wish we lived in Portland so we could dine at this restaurant more often. The inside of the restaurant is chic, trendy and welcoming. We chose to sit outside on the waterfront and it was delightful. Our waitress was wonderful and made us feel right at home. They even brought a bowl of water out for our dog that we had with us. Portland is a very dog friendly city. I didn't like the dinner salads that they offered so they actually made a special one for me. Wow! My husband and I thought our salads were very fresh and tasty. The pasta bolognese was delicious and the portions were ample. They also brought out a bread basket which was nice. The beer was good and so were the cosmo martinis that I ordered. Surprisingly enough, the prices were very reasonable. We loved the place!!

Beautiful Riverside Lunch

By Rebecca C |

We stumbled upon this restaurant after searching for another restaurant in the area. I am so happy we made the decision to go here! Wonderful happy hour for our late lunch. We enjoyed a caprese salad, ham and brie baguette, pesto pasta, trattoria burger, and an apple and cheese panini. Excellent food, incredible service. The server was accommodating of our large party's request to sit outside and brought extra items for the kids. The chef even came out and spoke with us. Lovely views and a relaxed atmosphere.

Small dining area offering delicious entrees

By Travel_Guy_2015 |

Fantastic service from our waiter Garrett S. We asked him for entrée recommendations and they were spot on! My wife had the Bistecca Florentina with it’s delicious balsamic reduction sauce – delicious! I had the Stagioni Con Pollo. The pasta was perfect (dante’) and the marriage of the various spices and olive oil tossed into the pasta and over the grilled chicken breast was to kill for. Our wine, Tablas Creek Vineyard 2015 Patelin de Tablas from Paso Roble California was a perfect accompaniment to our entrees. We will be back! BTW, I forgot to mention the restaurant is in a perfect location on the Willamette River and a short distance to our hotel (Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel). It looks like during the summer months they expand their serving area to the outside patio

Next to the water

By Adriano |

This place is right next to the water. We went as it opened so it wasn't busy at all. Food quality was great. Price was good for portion. Large wine selection!. Very nice staff.

Waterfront restaurant

By Sue M |

Such a pleasant surprise when we had lunch here during our first stay in Portland. Walked by while walking on the waterfront walkway and the scent of the dishes brought us back to eat. Will definitely come back to eat here on my next visit to the area.

All-around Great Experience

By StepMorris1 |

The food was great; the wine excellent; but what made this an over-the-top wonderful dining experience was the personal attention we received from both the waitstaff and the chef/owner. He explained the origin of the pasta recipe, told about the sourcing of ingredients, and basically offered a short course in Italian cuisine. We ended up sampling (and buying) a house wine that is being developed by our waiter in concert with the owner. It felt very much a family affair, and Il Terrazo is now our go-to Italian restaurant in Portland.

So delicious!

By Judy F |

I had the linguini with pesto and amandine green beans. I've had pesto in many places in Italy and the surrounding countries, and without a doubt this is the best pesto I've ever had. It's just perfect. The pasta and green beans were equally perfect. Four days later and I can't quit thinking about it.

Great place...wonderful view of the river

By Sue |

-staff and owner always friendly and accommodating...the food is fresh and delicious! We ate outside and the ambiance was perfect

poor!!!!

By kwb722 |

On a lovely, balmy summer evening, we made the mistake of eating here. They were understaffed and our server failed to order an entree for everyone in our party--4 meals came for 5 of us; we waited 50 minutes for the food; they took another 20 minutes to bring another entree; the chicken was cooked to death was like cardboard. I would not recommend this place!

What a gem!

By whistler4me |

Portland has a lot of great places to eat but where else can you have a fantastic meal sitting at the side of the river. So many choices, all the food looked incredible and ours was delicious! Definitely a return here is in order.

So good!!!!!!

By MelissaTravels2 |

Me and my husband ate here for Valentine’s Day and we LOVED it!!! First the wine selection is amazing. And one of the servers came over to explain the different wines and helped me choose. They had a prefix menu at a really great price and included a glass of prosecco. Delicious. They also had the regular menu available. The food was fresh and home-made. We had a great night. The atmosphere was romantic and the service was excellent. I can’t wait to go back.

Culinary Surprise on Portland Riverfront

By Johnji |

We were staying at the nearby Kimpton Riverplace and decided to try Il Terrazzo based on my wife’s recommendation. It was unassuming from the outside but oh what a wonderful Italian feast awaited us inside. We were promptly seated (without reservation) and given a choice of tables in different rooms in a sophisticated library setting. How often does that happen? Not a big menu but the delightful waitress walked us through some of the options. Everything we were served was excellent and very fresh. We probably ordered too much (servings are large) but the place is quite affordable and it gave us a better chance to explore the kitchen’s art. A zucchini dish we shared was the star of the evening—as was the antipasti misti. Fabulous wine list with emphasis on local and Italian vintages. Good job!

Ok italian

By Int_Bus_Travel |

I had a decent meal with starter salad and pasta arrabiata with shrimp. Arrabiata was a bit on spicy side at start but mellowed. There were a few wines by the glass and substantially more by bottle. Service was decent. View of Riverwalk was nice.

Yum, could have come back again if I had the time

By Emily K |

Food was so yummy. I came for early dinner after getting off the plane and was seated right away. Everything on the menu sounded great. I chose goat cheese and olive oil app and butternut squash ravioli. Within walking distance from my hotel and nice view of the water.

ChriStMas ShIp DiNnEr

By Zimbawe Sky |

We were seated at a large table with a view of the river so we could watch the ChriStMas ship parade on the river. We were a group of 5 and each of us ordered something different. The menue was very limited so making a selection was challenging. The food was simplistic, with some good flavors, however we prefer a more sophisticated artisan iItalian style when stepping out for Itiliano FoOd. The service was accomodating. Probably would not return due to the restricted menu......

Mixed views....

By Catherine S |

Hungry tired at not sure where to go as we arrived in Portland we found this restaurant on the waterfront. After waiting around for someone to greet us we were waved to a table. Staff seemed preoccupied and we felt we were a bit of a nuisance, there was a supercilious attitude to their service. Asking for just water to drink was not well received. The menu is limited but sometimes this is an advantage! We chose to share a green salad to start which was delicious. Husbands pasta bolegnaise was full of meat, he said he thinks it’s the best spag Bol he’s ever had! My pasta with shrimp was very (chilli) hot, not what I was expecting from the menu and not enjoyable as it was too hot. Also, why do they leave the tail shells on shrimp when your eating a pasta dish? Makes it so tricky to eat comfortably.

Good food, warm service

By RhetoricRox |

My husband and I ate here prior to seeing Hamilton at Keller, probably 5 blocks away. Despite being short-staffed during what seemed to be never ending groups of women, our server, Najela, provided friendly and efficient service. Pasta was excellent, as were the salads. They provide an olive oil/balsamic vinegar plate with bread, and, seriously, the vinegar was of an impressively high quality. Beautiful setting by the Harbor. We will definitely go back.

Soupy, Tough, Bland, AND Over-Priced!

By chucknonverbal |

Soupy, Tough, Bland, AND Over-Priced! When we entered Il Terrazzo, we immediately noticed that it was only about 1/3 as busy as the other restaurants that bordered it, but we felt maybe we had just gotten lucky and caught a lull. By the time we left, we understood why it was only frequented by the naive tourist that stumbled into the place. Simply awful! My wife’s beef entre was in a stew and yet as dry as dry can be (that’s actually hard to do). My pasta dish was swimming in a sea of bland liquid. Everything came to the table microwaved (you cannot get pasta that lava hot without a microwave), and it seems that steamed tomatoes are the restaurant’s “go-to” everything solution as it dominated our dishes…in a really unpleasant way. My wife had both her salad order forgotten and her dish-accompanying toasted bread forgotten (although promised twice). When we sat down, I was mistakenly (to give them the benefit of the doubt) given the lunch menu, and so at the final check, I was amazed to find prices were much more because they were the actual dinner level prices. I would not have minded much if the food had been at all tasty. We left 70% on the plate. All we could think of during our meal was “Let’s eat what we can stomach and get out of here.” How this place got so many good reviews is an absolute mystery to me. Maybe tourists just want to drink wine, and don’t care that much? It’s baffling. Stay away. Portland has so many other wonderful choices that to come here is, well, you have been warned.

Amazing italian restaurant!

By Mayda |

Amazing place!!! Best ialian food so far in my life!, so rich and tasteful. Perfect dinner, perfect wine, perfect dessert, perfect host and amazing owner!. Just perfect!

Warm people, harbor views, and great food

By Vince Q |

Came here on the recommendation of a friend and fell in love with the place. The staff could not have nicer, the pasta was great, and the tiramisu was without a doubt the best I’ve had.

Not what it was

By Heath B |

We used to love this place when Chef Michael was there. We went there yesterday for the first time in a couple years. It's not quite what it once was in terms of quality of the food and overall experience. We'll be looking for another place for a nice, high quality and reasonable Italian dinner.

Fantastic all around

By Chuck E |

Arrived early in cold & they graciously let us in. Excellent service, wine selections, menu & ambiance. The server was so friendly and accommodating. The Chef delivered our entrees and thanks us for being there multiple times!

A little gem!

By Mark W |

Small bar/restaurant on the waterfront in Portland, owned and run by a fantastic host called Michael. Warmest welcome from Michael, who was also a good source of information of the surrounding area. Good local bottled beer selection and a short, but good, menu. We would definitely return and would absolutely recommend a visit.

Great Italian food on the river front.

By Linda H |

Il Terrazzo over looks the river and a marina affording fun people watching. The wine list is superior with fair prices. Our food was wonderful authentic Italian. The flavors were very savory. The service was friendly and efficient. We would go back in an instant.

Wonderful food, lovely setting

By Lisa L |

One of several restaurants along a stretch of Portland's Waterfront Park Trail overlooking the marina (and with a clear view of Mt Hood) just south of downtown, this is a small cafe run hands-on by the owner (who took the time to share his story about creating the restaurant when we asked). They import their pasta from Italy and take great care in sourcing their ingredients. The setting, with most of the tables outside, couldn't be lovlier, and everything we ordered was delicious.

An excelllent night

By Ina L |

We had an amazing dinner at Il Terrazzo. We had seen the restaurant on a walk and stopped by close to closing. Someone foolishly skipped their reservation and so we got a table outside. Our waiter, Michael, turned out to also be the chef/owner! We had the bread service with olives for an app....fabulous and we both had pasta for dinner. I love that the portions weren't excessive. We felt happy at the end and had room for desert...a super light tiramisu. We had a lovely chat with the chef and before we left he gifted us a bread! I am happy to report we made6 excellent sandwiches that we took on the long train ride from Portland to Chicago out of that. This was excellent Italian food and a great dining experience. If we get back to Portland we will go again (though we may make a reservation ahead next time!)

Outstanding!

By Sandra P |

This has quickly become my favourite restaurant in Portland! I found it by chance and it was so good, I went back there twice for lunch. The pasta is divine and they have a great wine selection. The Burrata was out of this world too and the setting by the river...I was in heaven. A shoutout to the waitresses working there, they are the best! Definitely going back!

Wonderful Dining Experience from Beginning to End

By Gary W |

We were five out of town diners that owner Michael warmly welcomed. Service was attentive, we were well taken care of. We started with the Antipasti Misti, don't be put off by the price if you are a party of four or more - it's great and a lot of food. And the Insalata Caprese was very tasty and a generous serving that we shared. We enjoyed the Ravioli, Bolognese, Burger Americano, and Insalata di Caesar. Another high point was the wine Michael introduced us to - Core Aglianico from Campania.

Beautiful setting, so so food

By Tricia831 |

Just had dinner here with my husband. We ate inside at a table that faces outside and were wowed by the view of Mt Hood that suddenly appeared between the bridges. We enjoyed a good cocktail and fresh mozzarella and then waited too long for our entrees. My husband ordered bolognese and it was just ok. I ordered flank steak and it was an enormous portion of chewy steak, so much that I wasted 1/2, with a tasty side salad of arugula and tomatoes. I would say we made a mistake eating here. Lovely views, easy location but nothing special.

Great Location

By John F |

Very nice location located by the marina. Great service would be the highlight. Decent French bread served with oil and vinegar. However, our entrees of Traditional Bolognese and Bolognese with tomatoes, just didn't have enough flavor. Pasta was a bit over cooked., but didn't ruin the dish. Desert of Tiramasu was tasty. Maybe we expected to much of the pasta dish, but that pretty much makes up the menu.

Lovely little restaurant with authentic Italian food

By DavRut |

We stopped while sauntering with our dogs on the walkway in front of the restaurant for a glass of wine. Shared Bruschetta , Caesar salad, and pasta with Bolognese sauce and a bottle of Fundo recommended by the owner. Portions adequate to divide and prices were moderate. Great way to view the river with views of Mt Hood. Quality was super with freshly made pasta, anchovies and homemade croutons in the Caesar salad. Bread was delicious served with very high quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar reduction. Would recommend highly for an informal dinner.

Perfect

By BigAl42 |

Just in Portland for a couple of nights during a trip up the west coast. Booked this as it was a close stagger (bad back after 17 hours on a train from SF) from the Kimpton River Place hotel. So glad we did, as it made the day great again. A lovely way to spend our wedding anniversary. A very friendly greeting from Michael who, with his staff, made us very welcome. And the food... A lasagne to die for, and a scallop and prawn dish that was in an amazing sauce, fresh and tasty. Emphasis on quality throughout. Very extensive wine selection as well. Even got given a portion of lasagne to take away with us (after asking - tongue in cheek - whether he could post portions to England)! Highly recommended, just wish we were in Portland longer so we could go again.

Great food but...

By Michael2810 |

Not too sure what was going on there when we ate. I'll blame it on the heat. They seemed to be understaffed on the floor and even then there were times they just weren't aware of what was going on. They apologised for the wait several times. Eventually our food arrived and it was delicious.

Excellent Italian restaurant on the Portland Waterfront

By Glen R |

Il Terrazzo is an excellent Italian restaurant on the Portland waterfront at RiverPlace. The owner Michael puts a personal touch on everything and offers an excellent menu with a great selection of wine. The location is fantastic with views of the Willamette River and marina. Food is excellent. Il Terrazzo is perfect for business dinners or a romantic night out. I highly recommend a visit.

Happy travelers

By Teresa T |

Really good local food. Michael the chef checked on us and sincerely seemed to care that our food was excellent. Emma our waitress fun and very attentive. Amazing wine list. Would certainly return. The scallops fabulous, also had a crab salad and cream pasta. All worthy of having again.

Pathetic, distracted service

By RhetoricRox |

It took 20 minutes to get an appetizer, which was a chilled soup. It took more than an hour to get our entrees. We were the first diners in the restaurant! Will NEVER return.

Great place!

By Pam H |

Exceptional service and great food. We enjoyed dining outdoors with our two dogs in mild January weather thanks to the considerate staff.

Wonderful find

Located on the Esplanade in the Harbor, this relatively new restaurant serves a variety of wonderful northern Italian dishes. A couple of us had Pasta Bolognese. Others had pasta with mushrooms and sauce. Delicious! The decor is warm and the service is excellent. We had one person who had food allergies and they were accommodated with out a problem.

Amazing experience

Fantastic experience. Kathleen was an amazing server and the food was excellent. One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend.

A Gem on the River!

By Jean W |

We have been to this wine bar and restaurant on two different visits to Portland. It is a fun place to sit by the windows and watch people and dogs pass by on the river walk while you have a nice glass of wine. We tried lunch there on another day and completely enjoyed the delicious food served by one of the owners. We had delicious salads, a cheese plate and even cannoli for dessert.

Il Terrazzo: 5 stars, wanted to keep a secret but.....

Thank you Michael and team for a wonderful meal! Wife and son couldn't stop raving about the fresh pasta...best they ever had! So lucky the lasagna was also available too, grazie. Dessert was to die for...canoli anyone? So good, I hesitated to publish this review, wanted to keep this a secret place. Always will reserve a table when in Portland, even if only passing through.

Great food and calm atmosphere.

I went to Il Terrazzo on the last night of a two week stay for a family member in hospital. I was walking home from the business district and happened upon Il Terrazzo. I was looking for comfort food and a good glass of red. Found both - scallops and pinot noir. The owner was present and very attentive and my server was perfect. The relaxing atmosphere was just what the doctor ordered.

Great meal

What a wonderful surprise this was... We found this restaurant just a short walk from our hotel. We weren't in the mood to head further into Portland in search of dinner, so...walked along the riverfront. Fabulous food, wonderful service!

Great food, great location and great service

This restaurant is located on the Esplanade. Park in The Douglas public lot on SW. Montgomery and walk north along the water. Great food. We had three pasta dishes and a caprese salad. All were delicious. Pasta were fresh (homemade by someone local we were told by the server) and the sauces were flavorful. I think all the seating was outside so the view was great. Afterwards, we walked down one of the ramps and was able to get closer to the dock and absorb the waterfront environment even more.

Great place to enjoy fine wine and food overlooking the river.

Had a great dinner outside overlooking the Willamette River. Good Wines and the food was terrific. We even brought our dog to enjoy the sights as well.

Real italian

Pasta perfectly al dente, excellent tiramisu, good scampi. Nice and efficient service. Wonderful view on the river if you are seating outside. What else to ask for ?

The proprietor served us takeout and in tables outside.

By t3media |

The proprietor was exceedingly polite, professional and well prepared. I ordered takeout for lunch (brought back to the hotel) and the selections were fresh, tasty and well prepared. They have an excellent wine selection and liquor. The next day I dined on the walk at a table outside and had an excellent bottle of wine, of which he is one of the wine makers along with a salad, etc. Service was perfect and I'll go there again. Great value, great service and high quality. I recommend without hesitation. The locals know him and now I know why.

Yum yum

Wanted to like it better

Went there with a party of 7 for dinner on a hot night. After being outside all day in the heat we were looking forward to some air conditioning. They had set out table outside without informing us when we reserved. Strike one. Waitress was funny and nice so we were immediately put at ease. We ordered no appetizers and each couple split a salad. The salads were really small. Dinner took FOREVER to come. (Took 2 hours to eat dinner there) Then when it finally came--one persons food did not arrive and that fact was not acknowledged -and it didn't come just a few minutes later--it came after the rest of us were almost done eating (only the was the missing food acknowledged) Strike 2. All 4 adults ordered different things. All 4 were very bland. Strike 3.

Ambiance and waitstaff excellent, food very average

The view of the marina and the overall feel of the place is excellent. The waitstaff was extremely professional and directed us to a wine that fit exactly what I asked for. They do have a large wine selection. It was clean and comfortable, and the background music was great for a nice romantic dinner with my wife. The food was just ok. We got a veggie pasta dish and it was under-seasoned and flat. Not horrible and we ate it, but not really worthy of a nicer restaurant. For dessert we got a canoli and it was also 'flat' for lack of a better word and contained a large wad of thick mascarpone that had not been combined with the peach flavoring. We didn't eat all of it, but it wasn't disgusting, just disappointing. We would return for the view of the marina and the wine, but set our expectations to neutral on the food. It was not overly expensive.

Great restaurant, great location

Enjoyed a fine evening of wining and dining with family who live nearby. They know owner Michael very well and beyond being engaging he regaled us with his knowledge of wines and suggestions for wines with our meal selections. Highly recommend.

Loved the food, the view and the staff.

We stay nearby nearly every month and finally decided to try this restaurant. The staff was kind and attentive (got us in even though they were fully booked). The wine list is impressive. I know this sounds odd, but the ravioli were probably the best I’ve ever eaten. My wife loved her meal, a seafood stew. The salads were large and tasty although the potatoes in them seemed to clash with my palate. We had a wonderful table by the window with a view of the river. The bill was more than I expected but probably not out of line. Overall, for an upscale meal and drinks this is worth a visit.

Best place!

If you want to eat in a good italian place this is the perfect restaurant!!! The “antipasto” , the meet, the cheese are very good and the bread is the best!!

Freaking great

How great was our service the first week in January and a rainy night? Terrific. Started with bread, olive oil and olives nosh. House bolognese which was clean, fat free, light on tagliatelle. Mine was puttanesca...also great but not as bold as I make at home. Special of cannaloni with special bolognese was sold our tonight but something to look forward to. Shared almond cream cannaloni completed our meal. This place is a gem!

Excellent food with a wonderful personal touch!

What a wonderful restaurant! Excellent attention to detail on every dish. Insalata di Romaine and green bean dishes were great starters! The main dishes were all very excellent including the Bistecca Fiorentina, Smoked Duck Hash and pasta. The owner was wonderful in explaining the dish preparation and also created a special non-dairy dessert for my son who is allergic to dairy.

Fine Italian restaurant

Four of us had one antipasto; each ordered an entree. They were large. None of us actually finished. I don't know where Il Terrazzo gets its bread but it was superior - maybe that's why we didn't finish our entrees. The wine drinkers had chardonnay, my son and I had cider = all excellent. Setting on the river is pleasant. It does have outside tables.

Retaliation for bad review

By NWreviews |

We had given this place a 5 star review, however, our recent experience forced us to modify it. It is not about the food, unfortunately we never ate our pasta since it took over 52 minutes to make it available after we finished our salads. We pre-paid, waited at the front desk for a partial to-go order ; we had tickets for a show 2 blocks away. Food was placed in our trunk and when we got home after 3.5 hours it was a lump of gummy crap that ended up in the trash can. The upsetting issue was that this manager called us shortly after we left with condescending reprimands remarks! He suggested next time we alert our waiter that we have a show to attend as we place our order. Well .. our waiter, Adian, was on top of it as “HE” was the one that asked if we are attending a show. Adian apologized several times for the kitchen delays … this person then said: “well then, I will have to have a chat with that waiter” .. way to go, throw the great waiter under the bus but don’t take any responsibility for your inability to manage & lead. This vindictive man took the time to actually have our 100 points on OpenTable reservation reversed and deducted from our account by falsifying a cancelling 2 minutes after our conversation ended as if we were a no show. We called the next morning to get his name & were told that was Michael himself, the owner… & manager …. + also that night’s line cook. Wow .. a triple failure. Michael, mistakes happen, all you had to do was say we dropped the ball on this order. We hope you treat your wonderful staff with a lot more dignity & respect than we were treated.

Great place to watch the world go by

By LadyBolt |

We did the hop on hop off in Portland, the waterfront being our hop off at lunch time. My husband was hungry, I was just a bit peckish. I ordered the antipasto misto and he ordered the panini. We planned an hour stop however due to the wait for our food, and the quality of what we received, we sat and ate and talked and watched the world go by for over 2 hours, it was the best part of the trip. Prices were reasonable and the quality of the food was excellent, fresh bread and cheese. Meats were top notch.

Incredible!

Quiet small restaurant with a really cute, cool atmosphere. Our server Libby went above and beyond, letting us taste wines before choosing our favorites! The food was delicious, as was the bread and oil starter. We really enjoyed!
