This is my first time having Indian food in San Antonio and I had a great experience. For the three of us, we ordered special dinner for 2 and we enjoyed all of the dishes offered but the tandoori, which didn't have much flavor. We also ordered chicken vandaloo and chicken pakoras. My favorite dishes were garlic nan, chicken vandaloo and chicken makhani. The vegetable pakoras were pretty good too. Rice with peas was good with the curry dishes. If you haven't tried Indian food before, I really recommend the special dinner set since you will get to try a lot of dishes and there was plenty for two or even three adults. Service was good and fast. Though, I wish it was a little brighter inside the restaurant.

We drive 2 hours one way to eat the lunch buffet. Absolutely delicious! Not a huge selection, but more than enough and each dish is supurbly cooked. Wait staff is on top of the dishes and most courteous. I only wish it was closer to home!! Will continue to come here at least twice a year.

Very rude front desk host. Unacceptable!! I don't care how the dishes and cuisine is supposed to be ranked as one of the best in San Antonio!!

Went with friends who said it was good. They were right. We had the fish (swordfish) tandoori, chicken tandoori, sag paneer, and chicken tikka masala, along with some plain naan and a rice. We asked for medium spicy and they obliged. The tandoori items were brought out sizzling, like fajitas. The sag paneer was extremely creamy and smooth. Basmati rice was excellent.

The restaurant is located in a small shopping strip. The place was decorated the same way as many other Indian food establishments and very clean. The food was very good, however my mildly spicy was rather hot so buyer beware. Overall it was a good experience

The India Oven, in the Castle Hills area of San Antonio, is not pretentious from the outside.....but well worth the drive. Warm welcome as we entered for the lunchtime buffet. Friendly and efficient waiters kept our water glasses filled and the dirty plates promptly removed. NOW FOR THE FOOD - it was the best Indian food we have had in San Antonio and the dal was the best EVER! Each dish was well seasoned and Kept hot on the buffer line. Not a huge selection, but certainly a case of quality over quantity. We will be back for sure.

My daughter and I were looking for an Indian restaurant for a daddy-daughter dinner. I found India Oven on Trip Advisor and we decided to check it out. In a word, EXCELLENT! The atmosphere (traditional but not gawdy), stellar service and absolutely great food -- all without breaking the bank! We will definitely return -- we might even try the lunch time (only) buffet.

Amazed we were, are still are, by that meal. My wife and I have enjoyed Indian food throughout the U.S. and Europe. We ordered, and reordered, Lamb Saagwala and Chicken Karahi. The first time we had a tremendous meal at India Oven, we considered it a fluke. The second and third times, we were thrilled. However, after the fifth time, last Friday, we looked at one another and asked "can it be that the best Indian restaurant we've EVER found is in SAN ANTONIO?!?" Nothing against SA, we live here now, but did not expect Indian food better than New York, Connecticut, London, Frankfurt, etc, etc, well, you get the point.

Yummy.. Every bite was unbelievable. Service was excellent. Food taste incredible, fresh, spicy. We ordered from the menu and enjoyed the Buffett. We all will return

My family and I have been eating at India Oven for many, many years, and it is consistently excellent. Every single thing I have ever eaten there has been perfect, delicious, and more than filling. Definitely ask your server (who will most likely be one of the owners of the restaurant) for recommendations, even if you're familiar with Indian cuisine. I guarantee there's something delicious you've never tried before. They can make any dish mild or spicy, but be careful when you ask for spicy. Tell them just how spicy you want it. My husband asked for extra spicy once, and they used some special kind of Indian pepper that was hotter than any habanero. The vegetarian selection is also excellent, and even meat-lovers won't be able to turn down some of the veggie specialties! Don't be turned off by the location. It is in a little strip of bars and random shops, but this is the best Indian food anywhere. The inside of the restaurant does not match the outside. The dress is casual, but the decor is quite nice for a hole in the wall restaurant. There is a buffet at lunch, but I've never tried it. I prefer to order off the menu. If there are more than two people in your group, I would also recommend asking for a larger table. Trust me, you'll need it with all the food!

I've been in San Antonio for about two months and, although there is a variety of great food, Indian isn't this city's strong point. So,I found India Oven on this website and from the reviews it seemed like a good choice. We were seated quickly and appetizers and drinks also came quickly. However, the main entrees took almost 45 minutes to be served. We had nan, garlic nan, mango lassi, samosa, chicken tikka masala, and lamb korma. All of the food was excellent and the serving sizes were generous. I especially liked the lamb, it was tender and the seasoning was perfect. Overall, I'd rate India Oven's food 4.5/5 and service 3/5.

We've had Indian food in the Middle East and Asia, gotta say this place was absolutely delicious!! We ordered for delivery through Grubhub and our food came hot and on time it was very tasty and fulfilling!

I cannot remember if I have reviewed India Oven in the past or not but I can tell you this, their Sunday buffet is the best. At the head of the line is a giant platter, and I don't mean a big one, I mean a GIANT platter with flame underneath keeping everything hot kind of platter, full of veggies. I love what they do with a sweet potato--spicy perfectly sets off the natural sweetness. I know cauliflower is not everyone's favorite but it will be after you have eaten theirs. This giant hot platter of veggies is all I need but if you continue down the buffet you will find sag paneer, naan, goat curry, butter chicken and more. All perfectly seasoned and by that, I mean spicy as appropriate for the dish. The decor in the restaurant is nothing special. In fact, it is a bit dated and old but do you go there to see sparkle? If you do, you will miss the excellent food, which by the way is Halal. When you are in San Antonio and just want good Indian food, go to India Oven. You will not regret it.

I have only had the buffet but it always tasty. The tomato/coconut soup is a treat. The warm Kheer for dessert is a great way to top off a meal. The waitstaff is a little lackluster at times.

Went to the lunch buffet. Everything was just what you would want for Indian food. Tandoori chicken and another tasty chicken dish, vegetables and great naan bread and a delicious tomatoe soup. Had mango pudding for dessert. Everything was well prepared and fresh. Service was fine. Very reasonably priced for good quality.

I like to eat Indian food, and this is the best place to go! I will always eat here for lunch or dinner.

I went for lunch buffet. Excellent food and good service. Price also very reasonable. They had vegetarian dishes also, and that too very tasty

We went to India Oven cold, only because we had a coupon and didn't expect much. From the moment we walked through the door, we were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted and seated immediately. The dining room, appropriately decorated in Indian theme, was half full this Friday evening and glances at other diners' dishes let us know we would not be disappointed in our dinners. Nice breads and sauces, delicious dinners, very good service. They even have a decent wine list, which we rarely see in an Indian restaurant. We will include India Oven on our list of "go to" restaurants.

We were sat immediately not packed but busy with some take out orders. Had a couple kingfisher beer and a rarity of beef on the menu. We had lamb vindaloo, and chicken tandoori was outstanding. We will be back.

We stopped here for lunch and took in the buffet and what a taste adventure! All the sauces were exquisitely spiced - a culinary tour of India and we will be back to sample more. Wait staff attentive, reasonable prices. Loved it.

We have been here for both the lunch buffet and dinner. All I can say is it's the best indian restaurant I have been to and the food is very fresh and tasty. The samosas are the best! The waiters are very attenitive and willing make the food come out EXACTLY how you requested.

We make it a point to eat here every time we are in San Antonio. Excellent Service, amazing food, this restaurant is at the top of our list when we dine in San Antonio. It is mostly a dine in, but they do have a buffet during certain times. We usually get the meal for two, with includes appetizers, entrees, and dessert. I love the chai tea as well. Very reasonably priced.

From the outside you would not expect the fantastic food and great service. I asked my guest if the food was from scratch or commercial and he said scratch. We had the fish masala, chicken bhuna, and keema matter and nan, it was all good.

There was great food and great service and good atmosphere. Excellent food taste and a must go if u like Indian cuisine

This restaurant consistently has fabulous food with just the right amount of spices appropriate for the dish. Lunch buffet is great and the Chicken Makhani as well as the Tomato-Coconut soup are delightful. Good selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Truly some of the best Indian food outside of India - and I've tried lots of restaurants!! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

Not very good food. Its made for the non-indian palate, or anyone who can tell the authenticity of the restaurant. Thus, not authentic indian food.

Now live in West Texas, when we are in San Antonio we eat here. Great owners and staff , food is great!

I'd never had Indian Food; I was excited about the thought of the buffet. I sampled a tiny bite of everything, then went back for seconds on my favorites...the Samosas and the Sag Paneer. I also LOVED the Gulab Jamun!! Thank you for the great experience with a new food culture.

This was our first visit to this restaurant & were looking forward to the great flavors & textures for which Indian food is famous. I love the spices, such as curry, turmeric, ginger, & cumin along with many others, & the cultural-culinary skills that make all these ingredients combine for incredible taste outcomes. This particular restaurant has a standout reputation as one of the three best Indian food sites in San Antonio, & once you taste the menu items, the reasons for their high rating will be self-evident. In addition to the usual dining room menu, India Oven also serves an everyday buffet from 10:30-2:30 that has a “word-of-mouth” (from local sources) reputation for a fantastic range of choices that are all of high quality & of excellent taste. We chose an early evening visit & reserved one of their private dining areas, which are quite large, suitable for our size group. Once seated, “the devil made us do it,” & we engaged in eating such delicious food, that we did not stop until somewhere between simple “overeating” to “out-right gluttony!” The menu is straightforward & includes the traditional Indian dishes & sides. You cannot make a bad choice from this menu, & I loved the chicken curry & basmati rice; but, everyone in our group had their own select choices. After sampling from each other’s dishes, we sometimes could not identify the particular dish from which we were eating! However, that type of sharing is a lot of fun & is more of a “family style” meal. Hope you give India Oven a try, & I don’t think that you will be disappointed!

We have lived in San Antonio for 7 years and have eaten at India Oven many times. The food is consistently excellent! Service has always been very good. The lunch buffet is also excellent.

This is the only Indian restaurant I go to. I've been to the India Palace which is not bad, Simi's which I felt lacked flavor and refuse to go to any other since this restaurant whets my Indian food appetite. The service has always been great, waiters are always attending to your needs. Buffet is cheaper than some fast food restaurants. Great atmosphere with the latest and greatest Indian music playing. But the best thing is the food, it is just amazing. Im getting hungry just thinking about it. I bring friends from work and they all agree that the food is delicious.

It was not hard to identify vegan menu items, and they left the ghee off the wonderful hot bread, as requested. From an unassuming exterior, the white tablecloths & napkins were a surprise. However, they were very good with the small children in our group, so it is definitely a family friendly place.

It is a buffet and all I can say is WOW! It was wonderful. The food was great and the service was tip top. Go!

I have a few spots I have to hit when I travel to San Antonio and this is one of them. Excellent food all around and friendly service in this very unassuming spot. Definitely worth a trip if you are anywhere near the area.

I recently had tried Indian food on a business trip and really enjoyed the flavors, so my wife and I decided to try India Oven based on trip advisors reviews. WOW!!! What a true treat! I kick myself knowing it has been here in San Antonio forever and a day and I never knew it. The food is outstanding. We went for dinner so ordered off the menu (next time its for lunch to try the buffet). The food and service are top notch. Since I am a newbie to Indian cuisine, I have no idea about half the stuff I ate, but they start you off with some sort of flatbread/cracker item with two kinds of dips (green one is quite hot but good and the brown stuff is out of this world). We then moved on to different types of Nan bread. My fav is the garlic; not too fond of the onion one. Also had a fried one that had some sort of potato mix inside. That was a pleasure on the taste buds! My wife had the veggie platter. Came with some sort of tomato coconut soup which was fantastic!! I had the Chicken Tikki Masala which was very good as well. Seemed everything that came out was better then food before. Finished off with some rice pudding. REALLY cannot wait to go back!!!!

I came here with 5 other work colleagues after work hours looking for a good Indian restaurant that wasn't a buffet. We each ordered our own dishes so we could sample others. The dishes were very good ranging from very mild to somewhat spicy and the Naan was also very good. I particularly liked the crackers at the start of the meal with different spicy sauces. The dinner was a little more pricey than what I was expecting but the food was also very good and had good flavor.

India Oven is a neighborhood eatery. Many diners are regulars. The staff is very good about refilling water and bringing bread to the tables. Lunch buffet was just under $12. It's a good place to linger with friends. The food is okay. Basically I was there to hang out.

Visited India Oven with a group and the buffet is open for lunch, although the waiter fills your plate with whatever you choose from the line. Everything was tasty on the buffet - had a variety of vegetable plates as well as chicken curry, curry meatballs and tandoori chicken. Everyone in our group thought that the food was tasty but a little bland. The tomato coconut soup is DELICIOUS - best I have had anywhere. Certainly one of the best in San Antonio.

Visited during Christmas night. The night was packed. Service, and food quality was very good. Highly recommended...

Misleading. Food is not legitimate Indian food. Buy frozen Indian entrees at any HEB and you can duplicate the experience, especially if your place is a little dirty.

I had the lamb vindaloo and it was very good. You won't be disappointed if you like spicy food. I also ordered the veggie platter for my kids and they liked it.

Really tasty Indian meals, decent portions, can make make from spicy to mild, bread is always fresh, made for and Asiatic palate not like the the franchised Indian wannabe's

I have been going to India Oven for over 3 years now. I have had Indian food in other locations through out San Antonio, but nothing compares to India Oven. I go out of my way to drive over there at least once per month. I have never gotten bad service and the food is always perfect. They will fix the spicer dishes to fit your paticular taste. I always order mine they way they would fix it for themselves. I have taken many friends to this resturant over the years and they tell me they go back again and again.

Great atmosphere, excellent service, reasonably priced. Compared to other Indian restaurants in the area, the food is superb!! Super tasty!!

After reading good reviews I taught of trying this joint the ambience and the service was fine. Even though its a 10$ buffet, they really care that you visited the restaurant. Hot butter naan served on table. I was not totally blown away by any particular item on the buffet. But, food has been decent. But butter man was excellent

This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant in San Antonio. From the creamy Saag Paneer to the delicious Naan bread, they do a fantastic job. Their buffet, when available, is the best way to sample their delicious dishes. It is always hot, fresh, and amazing! For those who like their Indian food super spicy, you're better off ordering from the menu because they tend to err on the mild side here. However, I prefer milder Indian food so that is fine with me! A great place for a delicious meal!!

Average and that too because 1 dish out of 3 was good and I must admit the entry and layout felt I was in a seedy place As for food you could do better and avoid this hence no recommendation

This place has the most awesome food and their Kashmiri Naan is beyond delicious. I have tried other places that sell this type of sweet (almost like desert) naan but these people make it the BEST. If you go, you really should try the rich flavors of nuts/cherries/and spices in the Kashmiri naan.

I went alone during a business trip. The service was very fast and the price good for what they offer.

Real clothe table clothes. Very reasonable prices. I am new to Indian cuisine and this restaurant is the closest to where I live. I loved the food. Ample portions. Very tasty. No complaints what-so-ever, Can't wait to try the buffet. I ordered Baingan Bhartha - eggplant baked in tandoor and cooked in spices. The waiter gave me a choice of mild, moderate, or very spicy. I chose moderate and it was pretty spicy. Will do mild next time.

I visit during lunchtime and I love it! Buffet type place; great customer service; great food. I definitely will come back to this place.

We decided to walk here for dinner last night and I'm really glad that we did! The people were all wonderful and friendly and the food was tasty tasty! We enjoyed the flat bread and condiments (sorry I don't recall what its called...papadum??) that they brought us for a starter - I thought the chutney was pretty spicy but my boyfriend didn't think it was too bad. In either case, I thought the flavors meshed well. For dinner I ordered the Reshmi Chicken- which was wonderful! My boyfriend got the Lamb Sagwala. We liked that we could customize the level of spice in the sagwala. Yum yum - we'll be back :)

I love Indian restaurants in Great Britain so I am a bit strict when rating any. San Antonio IS NOT a sophisticated city with sophisticated restaurants. Indian cuisine is not high on local taste so all restaurants are basic with a mediocre cuisine at best. They tend to be cheap buffets. Stick to local cuisine and skip international cuisine restaurants. This is not the city to find them if you are a foodie like me and are very demanding of fine dinning. The buffet is ok at best. The preparation of all dishes is very "simple". If you enjoy fine dinning skip it altogether.

During our visit to San Antonio, we decided for Indian food. Checked out the reviews on TripAdvisor and selected the #1 rated Indian restaurant. The decor was definitely Indian. We were greeted and quickly taken to our table. Our order was taken and this is when the disappointment started to set in. We waited approximately 25 minutes for our food. While we were waiting, we noticed that no one had their food. So finally, our appetizer arrived. It was a vegetable samosa, which tasted like it was previously frozen. Definitely not fresh. My wife order a fish entree and I the Tandoori mixed grill. In addition, we ordered a onion kulcha. Most of the pieces of my mixed grill was burnt and the onion kulcha was about 1/2 the size of the onion kulcha we have ordered from many other Indian restaurants. I ate around the burnt sections of the tandoori, which was tasty. My wife enjoyed her meal. After we finished our meal, we waited for the waiter to ask for our check. He never showed up, so we went to the cashier and paid our bill. My disappointment is two fold, terrible service and burnt tandoori. I personally would not go back to this restaurant and could not in good conscious recommend it to anyone looking for a #1 Indian restaurant.

This is the worst Indian restaurant. No one should ever go to this restaurant. The waiter was rude and yelled at me for touching the napkin from the table next to me . He just yelled at me in front of the entire crowd he had absolutely no manners .No customer service .Food tasted below average . Coconut curry they had in buffet smelled like it was cooked the day before .If you ever want to have a good experience when you go to eat then do not chose this restaurant

I visited this establishment this evening for dinner. It is the worst Indian restaurant i have ever visited. They use the left over grilled chicken(Tandoori Chicken) to make relevant chicken dishes.I ordered chicken Tikka Masala, which is supposed to be fresh chicken cut into cube and fried with indian spices.Instead they used the left over Tandoori chicken to make it.You can tell, because the chicken had a red coloring on it,which is evident that is not the true McCoy.I also order Lamb korma, which had the exact same taste as the gravy in the first dish.Apparently, they are using the bottled gravy.I was very disappointed.I have eaten a hundreds of Indian restaurants over the years, but this one is at the bottom of the barrel.Don't waste your money at this place. The staff is rude and uninviting. They do not care for the paying customers. They can fool folks, who are not familiar with the indian cushiness.Waste of money, for sure..

For over 10 years we have dined at India Oven. The outstanding service, inviting atmosphere and delicious meals are what brings us back time and time again. We are grateful to have this amazing restaurant in San Antonio. One of the best!

I love Indian lunch buffets. Two of us ate a delicious lunch, including beer and soda, for $30. It was very easy to figure out which items were vegetarian, since the non-vegetarian items were grouped together. My favorite dishes were the hot vegetables freshly prepared in a giant wok. I enjoyed the surprisingly sweet and tangy carrots, the potatoes and the cauliflower from this wok. I skipped the eggplant that I also saw in this wok. Each vegetable was seasoned to perfection. I also enjoyed the crisp cucumber slices, which I used to cool my palate from the spicier items on the buffet, and the kidney bean salad. Dessert was probably gulab jamun, which was intensely sweet, as expected, but might have been previously frozen, judging by the texture. Besides the dessert, which was just OK, all the cooked food and salads I ate were very fresh and delicious. Easy parking right in front.

Word to the wise, the more people you go with the more things that you can try. This way everyone in your party is able to sample a variety of Indian food. However, eating your favorite is suggested as well. I really enjoyed the lamb. Also, ask questions. You server is very familiar with the food and able to find a meal that would appease your taste buds. Finally, go hungry. The portions are very generous and you will probably want to try dessert

After receiving a recommendation from my son's orthodontist, who happens to be Indian, we gave India Oven a try. I was NOT disappointed. The staff was friendly and the service was quick, given this is clearly not a fast food establishment. They serve these wonderful crispy cumin flavored cracker/bread with two dips that were simply wonderful. We followed this with the Tomato Coconut soup which my son and I absolutely loved. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and my son had the Fish Masala, both were equally fantastic. The main dish is served with this wonderful aromatic saffron rice with green peas called Peas Pillav. Of course, I had to have the garlic nan to soak up the wonderful sauce. Best of all, they will prepare the food based on your heat preference. Since this was our first time, we both opted for mild. The main course was served in these well sized silver serving bowls. While at first glance it does not look like much food, I can guarantee you it is. We left well nourished with go containers. I can't wait to go back to try the lunch buffet and the lamb. I highly recommend India Oven!

so i came for a business meeting with a client and we since we both enjoyed Indian Cuisine we googled Indian food near me and decided on the Indian oven quaint place well lit and clean looking and since we chose the buffet there was a just a few selection to choose from the waiters were well groomed ,but very reserve. the food was good, but we never got our glasses refilled with water or ice tea and so we will not recommend to anyone of our friends

We all like Indian food, so looked for a good place to eat in San Antonio. India Oven came up as a high recommendation. What a great choice! 2 members of the group ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, one chicken biriyani, and one chicken tikka kabob. We couldn’t decide which was the best. Add to that nan bread samosas and aloo gobi and we had quite a feast. We all agreed that it was the best Indian food we had eaten since our favorite Indian restaurant closed at home years ago. It’s hard to imagine better prepared food than we experienced. Slow pace of the dinner was very nice and allowed good conversation. I highly recommend this restaurant as a don’t miss while in town.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. They serve great Indian food, with the usual buffet at lunch and order off the menu at dinner. Love their tandoori chicken, chicken tikka and saag paneer! Service is friendly and efficient, and the cost is reasonable.

We stopped in after our son’s graduation and the food was amazing. The buffet had plenty of options for the diverse taste buds in our group. There were seven of us in our party and we thought it would be difficult to get a table on short notice. However, we were seated quickly and the service was attentive without being over bearing. We had some of the best Indian food we have ever had!

There are a few other Indian places to go in San Antonio, but they don't compare to India Oven. The food is consistently flavorful and spicy. The lamb korma is fantastic, as is the chicken tikka masala. Good naan bread. Service is quick and quite friendly. Cheap wine, too. ;)

From the outside, this place isn't much to look at, and you may be tempted to leave and go somewhere else, but that would be a huge mistake. The food is amazing and everything tastes like it was made to order. They probable have the most accommodating staff of any restaurant I have been to in the past 6 months. You can't go wrong here.

The service is always very friendly and helpful. We never feel rushed out unlike other places that give you the check before you are even finished eating. The food is DELICIOUS! There isn't a dish that we have tried and not liked. Our personal favorites are the lamb biriyani and tandoori chicken wings appetizer. The portion sizes are very generous and good for the price. We come here at least twice a month, so it is definitely one of our favorite restaurants here in San Antonio. Definitely recommend!

The Saturday lunch buffet was very good and had more variety than we anticipated. My husband is not a big fan of East Indian food, but he enthusiastically dug into the tandori chicken, chicken curry and naan. I had a taste of almost everything on the buffet, and enjoyed all of it except the vegetable pakora, which was without taste. All else, even the rice, was flavorful and freshly prepared. We will be back!

The dishes have not changed much from a year ago. The fried Aloo Bonda was soft and spicy. The beef curry was acceptable. The palak paneer was cold the first time around (not tongue burning). It was warmer for the second serving. The place is clean, lots of parking. There is an extension to the restaurant for larger groups. It has been a year since I have been there, and in my humble opinion, I think the menu needs an update. A little far for tourists.

Went for lunch buffet. GREAT vegetarian selections, all of which were delicious! Service was excellent. Best I've ever had!!! Will drive 2 hours to eat again!!!!

I have tried most every Indian restaurant in San Antonio and this was the first time I really enjoy every aspect of my meal. Excellent selection and service at a fair price. I highly recumbent his Northern style Indian food.

One of the best restaurant in San Antonio TX, Food is delicious and authentic, We always feel special and welcomed

I visited for lunch during a business trip to San Antonio. It was a decent lunch buffet with some classic Indian fare. The good was just okay, not bad but nothing to get excited about.

The food was amazing!! There was a lot of spice and a couple dishes we haven’t tried before that were delicious! Our favorite dish between the whole family was the chicken Korma medium spice level. But everything was tasty! The kids really enjoyed this Indian restaurant, which doesn’t always happen! The service was great, and they were really kind even though we had six messy kids with us!

after reading 5 star reviews we were looking forward to trying india oven. it was disappointing. bland saag paneer, chana masala that tasted like it had canned tomato sauce in it, cold flavorless naan that tasted more like pita bread... not one dish had the interesting flavors that makes Indian cuisine so delicious

Arrived for an early dinner. Only a few tables were occupied. They immediately seated us. The place was very clean. All the waiters were very courteous. We ordered a lentil soup and it was excellent. Not very familiar with Indian cuisine, my wife ordered a spicy lamb dish and I ordered the lamb with a spinach sauce. Both meals were awesome. Plenty of food for the price. The naan bread was fresh, right out of the oven. The service was outstanding and the quality of food was superb. Our first time to the restaurant, but it won't be our last.

I will say this place is average compared to some of the Indian places I have been to. However the food was good and service was ok. The guy at the front was not the most pleasant person or attentive and when we first went in we were asking him about the different places to sit and he pretty much said there is no place to sit except the table in the front when there were other tables open. That was not good customer service to me. The food was not the most excellent I have had in Indian food. Based on that I am giving an average for the service and the food also average. When I left the place I did not think I will go back again as there are so many other places to try in San Antonio but I might give them another chance again. Overall it was a decent Indian food, just not excellent like I had hoped for Indian food. Maybe I have been spoiled by having some great Indian foods and my expectations were high, maybe. But for that price, I expected more.

Every time we eat at India Oven, the food and the service are excellent, and I love that they have white tablecloths in the evening. I love the sag paneer and the chicken korma and my husband's favorite is the sag paneer. The lunchtime buffet is delicious, too...I always have seconds of the tomato soup.

Being honest I'm not big fan of Indian Buffet. Usually food is too spicy for me or tastes funny or to much oil inside. This place was an exception. I really liked food in here. Choice is not very big, but they have nice vegetable dishes. I liked that food wasn't crazy spicy so you can taste real taste of what you eat. I guess it's good place for people who like milder version of Indian food. They have option to order food from menu too. Client service was good, though front receptionist could smile a bit more. I think this buffet is a bit more expensive then average places, but overall my opinion about this place is good.

The food was wonderful. The service was great. My only critique is the condition of the wine glasses that our wine was served in. India Oven, please purchase a water softener so your glassware is somewhat presentable. We purchased a bottle of wine and were presented with very unappealing wine glasses that were cloudy with what we assumed to be lime deposits.

Eat here regularly and have never been disappointed. Large menu. Good service. Excellent food. Have always eaten dinner here so don't know about lunch buffet.

This restaurant used to be one of my favorites in town. I have brought friends over and enjoyed valentines day there as they had entertainment. The sad part is that I have seen over the years the service has gone down hill. The food is now bland. The waiter seems to be so unhappy to be there and is always annoyed. It's quite terrible customer service. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Good food, but average ho - hum atmosphere. Wait person was friendly, but manager/owner showed no interest.

This was our second visit to India Oven, and this was the second time we where blown away. Simply the best (in my opinion) Indian food in town. Additionally the service and friendly staff only adds to a great experience. We had samosas for appetizers & the dinner for two, Vegetable Pakoras, Tandoori chicken, tandoori shrimp, seekh kabob, curry & vegetable – Chicken makhani, sag panir, rice pulao, garlic naan & kheer (dessert) and it delicious. And the price was very reasonable.

Great Indian buffet, all food items were warm and good testing, few items were mild in taste but it was well made. Lot of staff to manage the food items.

We ordered the dinner for 2, at the waiter's suggestion. It was more than enough to feed 3. I did think that the tandoor chicken was a little dry, but the seekh kabob was really tasty. The chicken tikka masala was very good, and the sag paneer was probably the best I've ever had. The rice was good and beautiful to look at. My daughter loved the mango lassi. The kheer, which was the included the dessert with the dinner for 2, was refreshing and just rich enough. The gulab jamon dessert was not included, but we ordered it as an extra and it was seriously delicious.

Food was very solid, chana, tiki masala, pakoras, and other Northern Indian fare. A little hard to find. Service was average, but it is a buffet after all. Would recommend it. Was 13 for Sunday lunch buffet and ice tea.

Wow, I love this place. I go at lunch when there is a buffet featuring a wide variety of my favorite tastes. Food quality is great and the prices are reasonable.

India Oven is the greatest Indian restaurant in San Antonio. It is not even a competition, in spite of the large number of Indian restaurants here. Don't waste your money trying the others, as you will only experience disappointment. Every dish is the best representation of that concept and recipe. Our family often gets a variety of delicious things. We love the garlic naan, the onion kulka, the biryani, rogan josh, korma, tikka masala, ordinary curry, everything!

Far from authentic North Indian restaurant. Mango lassi is mango buttermilk. Paneer tikka masala was raw paneer burnt in oven. Not marinated, in fact it didn't even have salt. When asked the server, he said you can put salt kept on the table. I would not recommend this to my enemy.

The worst Indian food I've ever eaten and one of the worst meals eaten out in my entire life. Everything is microwaved and reheated, chewy and sad - a complete abomination in representing true Indian food and certainly nowhere near what you would expect for any restaurant quality fare. I'm not sure what was worse: the Jalapeno mix with the poppadums, the freezer burn on the Tandoor chicken that had never seen a Tandoor, or the bowls of goop pretending to be different curries swimming in watery runoff. Granted that decent Indian food is hard to find in San Antonio but you'd literally have a better experience going to HEB and getting the Indian dishes from the frozen section. Completely tragic.

We were so glad we ate dinner here. The restaurant is attractively decorated and has a professional wait staff. The food was deliciously flavorful, and the service was excellent. The paneer pakoras were hot and crispy. We tried a new dish, the Paneer Tikki, and it was incredible. The taste was smoky and spicy. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday night. It is in a pretty nondescript strip mall. But once we stepped in, we were surprised that the restaurant was packed. We were seated quickly - The service was quick. we wanted to order food for our 3.5 year old son first - the manager / owner was working the floor and stopped by our table when the waiter was taking our order. She offered to customize and create an entree for our son which would suit his taste palate. They brought his food out first and it was awesome - my son finished the plate clean :) We ordered appetizers, an entree to share and a couple of beers. Unfortunately - they forgot about our appetizer and brought out our beer and entree. The waiter apologized profusely for the mistake - when the appetizer came in, the chef had sent an additional appetizer complimentary to make up for the goof up. When I got the check - I saw that they had not charged me for the appetizer. Very good service. The food was flavorful, service cheerful and flawless and the atmosphere great.

This is our favorite Indian restaurant in San Antonio. The for has been consistently good for well over 20 years. The lamb dishes are tender and well prepared and their Kashmiri naan is the best I have had.It is unfortunately a 30 dollar Uber ride from downtown but in our view is worth the expense and effort

A hidden gem in San Antonio. It's a little hard to find tucked away in strip mall with a jazzercise studio behind a grocery store but everything is delicious. Especially the Chicken Makhani. Garlic Naan is also a must have.

Wonderful buffet! Everything you could ask for to tantalize your desire for authentic Indian cuisine. Fresh and hot. You will not be disappointed.

I have been to this restaurants on the several occasions (I almost visit it at least once if I am in SA). The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. The customer service is very good. We tried the vegetarian thali for the first time and were very impressed with the price and the quantity. The other food we ordered was very good as well. Definitely recommend the Pistachio Kulfi & Saag Paneer (make it one level spicier than you normally order to really enjoy it).

Great Indian food

I am a vegetarian so my choices are limited at most restaurant. Not here. I always get the Vegetarian Dinner. It costs about $13. You get a samosa first. Then comes the platter with sag paneer, lentils, yogurt, rice, vegetable dish (sorry don't know the name), all followed with keer for desert. I took home enough for 2 more meals. Others at the table got tandoori and lamb. Everyone loved it. The waiters are always helpful and the management is out on the floor.

Extremely delicious, clean place, tasty food, good price. Great wait staff, everything you want in a good restaurant. They also serve wine and beer, some of which comes from India which is really cool. I don't know why I hadn't eaten here in four years of living in San Antonio.

We chose this based on other reviews and we weren't disappointed, in fact, well-fed and very happy with our choice. Almost as soon as we sat down we were served papadam with a spicy mint dip and also another unknown, but delicious, sweet red sauce. Then not too long later the mango lassi I ordered arrived. Wow, really excellent! I just wish I had saved more to drink with my meal. I ordered the spicy version of the chicken vindaloo and it definitely was spicy! I'm from Mexico, so I can take plenty of heat, but be careful if you order the spiciest version, because the heat seemed to increase with each bite. But, still incredibly delicious, along with the naan I ordered. My husband also really enjoyed his reshmi chicken, which looked more-or-less like chicken fajitas, but with large chunks of tandoori-cooked chicken. But he liked it even better with some of the sauce from my vindaloo. Neither of us could finish our orders so we had nearly another meal left to take home with us.

India Oven was consistently good and the wait staff very helpful to those not familiar with Indian food. The atmosphere is casual, the food excellent and the service attentive. We always ordered the dinner for two and shared the various dishes. I find I quite often crave Indian food and credit this restaurant for instilling that love of Indian food in me. We hope we can find something this good in the Pittsburgh area.

The food is always wonderful! We have had lunch and dinner both here and its always good, service if fast and normally never any wait. Staff is friendly and very helpful!

I came to this place just looking for South Asian cuisine in San Antonio for a group dinner and had a great experience. I showed up there with 11 other people without a reservation and we were seated right away, with a long table to ourselves, and it's not cramped at all- it's nice and open but not too open. The service was fast and the place has a great ambiance to it. The food was pretty good too.

I have been reluctant to eat Indian food primarily because all Indian restaurants I have visited stank really bad. However, my wife convinced me to adventure to one more Indian restaurant and I am glad I accepted. India Oven is very clean, no cooking odors can interrupt your evening, and their menu is excellent. I cannot get enough of them now. Their Lamb dishes are so tasty I ended up eating mine and half of my wife's dinner last night.

We found this place during our temp quarters stay in San Antonio. I am very glad we did. We have been regulars here now for about 18 months. The food is always good and the service is never lacking. Definitely try this place.

The atmosphere here is very nice with a décor that immediately puts you at ease. I had the Rojan Josh. The lamb was prepared and tasted great. The sauce was delicious with a perfect blend of spices. I asked for mild and it was delivered as expected. A little kick but not overwhelmingly hot. My wife had the Chicken Tikka Masala which she said was delicious. We ordered an additional dish of Saag Paneer which is a spinach dish with chunks of cheese. It had a wonderful mild flavor. We started with an appetizer of vegetable Pakora - very tasty. Additional items were Aloo Naan and a side of Raita. The rice was perfectly prepared and spiced. We took Mango Lassi's with us to go. It is a delicious drink that we used as our dessert. We had a wonderful discussion with the owner who is also the main chef. His restaurant has been there for over 25 years and luckily managed to weather the storm and making it through COVID. He stayed open with 'to go' only to get through that period.

One of our friends invited to dinner at this restaurant. My wife and I truly enjoyed the Indian food. Our friends ordered four different entrees, and we enjoyed a little from all of them. The food was excellent and filling. We will definitely be going back.

One of the oldest Indian places in town.

They have a great ambience and atmosphere for the dinner time.... I can here with couple of my friends .... We had there diner for 2 and the rack of lamb... Really affordable and tasty... Btw the restaurant hours mentioned above is wrong.... They are open everyday for dinner too from 5-10 pm...

Began with nice atmosphere, continued with excellent dishes, well presented with wonderful service. First time having Indian food, my interest was greatly rewarded. I was very impressed, wonderful flavors

The below average and highly over rated Indian restaurant in San Antonio. We went to this place by checking the reviews on google and yelp but the reviews are a sham. We were visiting the nearby water park with our friends and were really hungry after the that. We ordered the following vegetarian options: 1. Gobli Manchurian - the worst gobi Manchurian of our life. The dish was deep fried in high flame and tastes ok 2. Dal Tadka - An ok yellow daal. We had to put lots of lemon juice to neutralize the taste. 3. Paneer Makhani - the better part of the menu which made this restaurant 1 star eligible. 4. Breads - the breads were the crispy and well done but the garlic naan has too much garlic. Our friends ordered non vegetarian options: 1. Lamb Biryani - As per them, it was not a biryani and it was served as pulao. There was nothing close to biryani to this dish. 2. Chicken Korma - This dish was bland. Overall a disastrous experience and people should avoid this place at all cost!!!

As mentioned in an earlier review, the food isn't spicy here. By this I mean it is mild, heat-wise but the flavors of other spices are definitely there. To try to get the amount of heat I like (I lived in India for 16 years) I tried ordering off the menu on one visit. Even with instructions to serve it as hot as in India, the dishes were only mildly hot at best. I understand that "hot" to the majority of people is "mild" to me and this is a restaurant that serves mainly non-Indians. This would be a good introduction for those who have never tried the cuisine, especially if they are afraid of coming away with their mouths on fire. Everything they serve is very good, as is the service.

Indian Oven, though a bit difficult to find, is likely the best Indian restaurant in San Antonio. There is a wonderful lunch buffet, scrumptious dinner entrees and wines, and there is even a belly dancer on the first Friday night of each month. (Be sure to call and double check that if you plan to try and catch her. Things can come up, though she rarely ever misses showing up.) My favorite dish there is the Saag Paneer and the Chicken Jalfrezi. People who like Indian food generally enjoy curry, and there is certainly plenty of that, there are many other delightful spices such as ginger and tumeric, all of which are very good for one's diet and health. There are several types of naan (bread) but don't fill up on it before your entree comes to the table!! Hard to resist, I know!!

I've eaten Indian food in many places around the USA and England. Nothing I've ever eaten here in the States compares to some of the best Indian restaraunts I've eaten at in England. After all, India was once a British colony, so I guess the British imported some good Indian chefs. When my wife (who is English) and I tried to find good Indian restaurants here in the States, we always ended up being disappointed. Then we found India Oven about 8-10 years ago. While it is still not as good in quality nor variety as my favorite English Indian (?) restaurant, it is as good as we've found in the States. We have eaten at India Oven in the evening, and we've eaten off of their lunch buffet. While I prefer to order off the menu, I like the variety and freshness of the buffet. The lady who ownes the place is often there, and she is very pleasant. She always stops by our table just long enough to welcome us and to say "Hi." A nice touch. Consistancy is important in any cuisine, and India Oven is just that. We always know the food, whatever it is, will be fresh and well prepared. The waiters have always been attentive, but don't hover over us. They have real tableclothes and napkins on the tables. The decor is a little worn looking, but I don't care as long as the food and service remain good. We have taken friends to India Oven on a few occasions and they always enjoy the experience as much as we do. The only thing I would like to see them improve on is the variety of dishes the offer. There are so many dishes, especially vegetables, that they don't offer. But you can't have everything. I'll take what I can get and leave with a smile on my face. Oh, and the prices are reasonable. Value for money, as they say in England.

Very standard Indian buffet with predictable menu and taste. I did not find the food or menu exciting or new at all. I wouldn't say it wasn't good, everything tasted okay, just very predictable.

I haven't been there in years. They have expanded their space. The strip center has been renovated. The food is excellent. It stimulates all of your taste buds. They use herbs and spices to produce the unique flavors. Yum! You will have to provide time to spend and enjoy the restaurant. The waitstaff was friendly and informative.
Excellent dishes in a relaxing atmosphere
This place is wonderful; it is very close to where my wife and I work, so we're over there pretty regularly, especially when it rains! The food here is really wonderful - great combinations of spices, meats and vegetables. I could eat an entire meal just of the saag paneer - a perfect balance of creamy spinach and spicy heat. The meatballs and the butter chicken are both good, high-quality meat (I'm really picky about my chicken), and are a nice counterbalance to the more heavily spiced vegetarian options, which, other than the saag paneer, tend to rotate regularly. The pakoras are nice and crisp on the outside, but still soft and fluffy on the inside. This is one of the two places I go for Indian food in San Antonio - and they are both excellent. Definitely make a stop here!
