We were super hungry that day having visited multiple museums and not finding a decent Mexican place nearby to eat we decided to try Indian! It was a totally random search and boy were we pleasantly surprised! India Palace - indeed provides exotic Indian cuisine! We had the Tandoori Chicken and it was the best Tandoori chicken we have ever had in our lives! Also the Alu paratha, Baigan Bharta were absolutely delicious as well!! Apart from the ultra tasty food, the ambience of the restaurant was also something else and all the staff - very courteous and friendly, constantly checking in. Their Chai was also awesome! I will definitely visit again & would recommend to anyone who loves a good Indian authentic meal!!! Loved it!

Loved the ambience, courteous staff. Offer brunch as well as alakart for lunch. Good options of food in menu. Loved the experience hence went for the second time on the same trip. Good place to have Indian food in San Diego.

During our trip to San Diego, We wanted to have good Indian food for dinner ... and tried out this place. But the experience was most awful .. The naan we ordered was completely burnt out, other starters were equally bad. Total waste of money and not worth a try.

I had dinner here tonight. The food was ok if a little expensive. The chicken was a little "rubbery" if you pardon the English joke. It was ok but not great.

I found this place online and decided to give their lunch buffet a try. Flavors were a bit different than I was used to in Indian food, but still very fresh and authentic. I especially enjoyed the chicken biryani. Service was friendly and parking was easily accessible.

Went there only because it was the 1st Indian on trip Advisors list. Went for lunch & it was amazing & i have to say its an unreal space indoors & out. Best naan I've had & samosas.

Indian food is always my first choice when it comes to choosing a favorite. I’ve tried several Indian restaurants all over San Diego County, but Indian Palace is still my favorite. I was there recently celebrating my birthday with friends. The food was outstanding, fresh and perfectly spice to my liking. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is the best around. Very authentic The service is wonderful. The staff is attentive and remembers my modifications. They ask on a scale to 1 to 10, how spicy you would like it to make sure each dish is specific to the customer. We had a few vegetarian in our group. They found plenty of options as well. I hope you love India Palace as much as I do you.

The service here is great. Very friendly and personable waiters. I had the special (lamb lollipops with khorma sauce). It was delicious. The vegetable samosas are also excellent. Well worth the price and better than the overrated Gaslamp District. We eat Indian all the time in NYC and I can truly say this was the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The pistachio and mango khulfi topped it off very nicely.

We were still having a lingering “bad taste” from our previous nights’ dining experience but our enthusiasm was not dampened and this time we headed north of the Historic Gaslamp Quarters for the India Palace Restaurant. This restaurant was ranked #1 among the Indian restaurants and #245 of 2003 San Diego restaurants by Trip Advisor. A cab or a 20-minute bus ride (MTC bus # 3 or #120) will easily take you there from downtown San Diego. The India Palace Restaurant had a pleasant ambience. We were given Papadum (presented in a unique way) (see photo) to start with. We ordered Fish Tandoori and Karahi Paneer (see photos) as our main entrée and a bottle of merlot. The food was promptly served hot, cooked to perfection (we asked that the fish be cooked well) and were just delicious! The waiters were very attentive and professional. The price of our dinner was most reasonable. Overall we had an exquisite dining experience, which was a stark difference from what we had in another Indian restaurant the night before. If you are looking for great Indian food and you are staying in the Gaslamp district or the “Heart of San Diego”… go north!

Decently good Indian food- portions were good. Service was very attentive. A good selections of items on the menu- we tried a few paratha types, paneer dish, pakoras, beer and wine. the food was not too greasy, in all a decent indian place

We had Chicken tikka masala and Chicken Hariyali (Green) with garlic naans and roti. The lunch was delicious. They also have a buffet. Recommended. They also have a big party room for events. The prices were reasonable.

I just love this place--Indian with vegan options. Restaurant itself is cozy, and delivery is fast. Veggie pakoras are super.

Great good - daal makhani and bhartha are a must. Fantastic punjabi flavor. The pista and mango kulfi are the best I have tasted in the country. The naan could have been more crisp.

I'm sure other people that are Indian that go to Indian restaurants will know exactly what I'm talking about. For some reason, when Indian people (or people of Indian descent, like me) go to an Indian restaurant, the staff act very aloof and make you feel like you're under a microscope. And as a mom, traveling with my two teens and no husband (he couldn't join us), I felt like I was being judged, especially when I ordered wine. However, if you're not Indian, as I observed, the service will be on point; courteous and prompt. The decor was simple, clean and nice and the food was very good. The prices were reasonable and despite the service, if I'm in the area again, I would go again. Only this time I might get take out.

We went right after the weekend lunch buffet ended. I thought they were about to close since most Indian places reopen until 5pm. Not this place! They seated us (we were the only ones in the restaurant) and they kept taken take out orders the whole time we were there. We had the classics: Veggie Pakoras, Tandoori chicken, Chicken Tika and Sag Paneer as well as some wheat Nan and loved it! Iced Chai tasted great and Mango Lassi for desert was awesome. Great service and lots of attention. Will come again for the buffet!

Visited this place during Comic Con week and it was nice to get away from the crowded Gaslamp area. We ordered Gobi 65, Onion Bhai, Saag Paneer, & Bhindi Masala. Spice level was what we had ordered and the taste of all items were very good. Service was very attentive and all the items came out very quickly. Nothing really stood out over another dish but we did enjoy the very nice ambiance and decor which is rare for a mid-level Indian restaurant.

had dinner here. great food, good choice of jain vegetarian food. But the interior is really awesome.

We visited this place during New Year 2016. We tried this place for dinner. I must mention, the food served was the most authentic Indian food I had tried till date in USA. We had ordered for Karahi Lamb, naan, tandoori roti and rogan josh. We were very happy with the service and the treatment. Though a small place but the ambience was really warm and cordial. Would definitely recommend this place for visit.

I have been to many Indian restaurants, but this one, in Hillcrest, is one of the best. Reasonably priced, great food, wonderful atmosphere. It is in a very lively neighborhood, with plenty of places to visit before or after your dinner. Will definitely be back when we go back to San Diego again.

This restaurant is part of the Indian Palace "chain" up in La Jolla - and it doesn't disappoint. The spices were perfect, the heat was accurately represented, the Naan bread was delicious and the price point was just right. We will definitely come back to this restaurant.

I went with high expectations given the excellent reviews. Certainly the staff were friendly, but the food was rather ordinary and not that special. Nevertheless, good value for money. Restaurant could do with more spice.

We ordered vegetarian meals for four and each of us were pleased with what we ate. Two of us had peculiar preference of food without garlic, which to our surprise, was available and was very tasty. Ambience is also good.

On my recent trip to San Diego, I was very excited to try good Indian food at this place. To my dismay, the food here was pathetic. Yes I am not exaggerating. Garlic naan was completely burnt out and black, Pakoras were too salty and seems to have been made with haste, Lamb samosa was completely inedible. Paneer masala was the only thing that was ok. Might be a bad day for the Chef?

Recently remodeled, the place exudes Indian ambience with aromatic spices that peaks one’s appetite! Try the Lamb Seekh Kebab. Mango Lassi anyone?

Following recent rave reviews of this restaurant last night I took a friend for a birthday dinner here. The food was delicious, and the spicy items had lots of flavor, not just heat. A favorite was an unusual samosa stuffed with lamb (not mutton), very delicate. The wine list is adequate. The service was superb. Highly recommended. I've enjoyed Indian food in India, London, and all over the US. Will go back and try the buffet, the food for which they said was made fresh daily (not left overs). Easy to find. Parking available.

They have lunch buffet until 15:00 o'clock. Price including tax is 12.93 dollars. Food is very good. I went there twice. Service was not friendly but the food was very good and price very reasonable. I would definitely go there again and I definitely recommend.

Stopped in for an early dinner and had the place pretty much to ourselves. Quiet ambiance and muted decor made for a very pleasant dining experience. Attentive staff and outstanding food puts this place on the must come back to list. Try the lamb, beautifully cooked and perfectly spiced.

The food in their lunch buffet looks good but the taste of the food is just not up to par and lunch here was a big disappointment. Having eaten Indian food at many restaurants in a variety of cities and being big fans of Indian cuisine, we consider ourselves connoisseurs of Indian cuisine. The curries in this buffet had one of two problems - either they were completely bland and lacking in flavor or they were so salty that you couldn't eat them. The only dish that tasted as it should was the Chicken Biryani. A couple of the vegetarian curries were extremely salty, as was the tandoori chicken. I've never had a butter chicken I didn't like until I had lunch here at India Palace - the butter chicken was completely bland and didn't taste anything like butter chicken even though it looked like the real deal. The samosas were okay but the vegetable pakoras were all overdone and looked burned. The rice was fresh and although the naan looked authentic, it was flavorless. Definitely not worth the $12.00 a person that they charge for this buffet - we won't be back!

Nice Indian restaurant with authentic food and great service. they cater to vegetarians very well and also vary the spice level (mild to hot) as requested, for the size of group

It is located close to the airport and downtown. The ambiance is pleasant, parking is tight but free. Service is friendly and set up is good. I like few items: Saag Paneer, Chhole, nan were great. Aalu mutter was poor. Gulab Jamun was great. Salad, Pickles & Raita were average, Good price,

India palace is located in the heart of the town and you will find many more options even for Indian cuisine. We decided to go hear as we could not find parking at the other neighbouring Indian resturant. To our surprise we found India palace pretty good. We found parking right outside the door. The ambience is pretty good with low light and candles. The staff is courteous and helpful. The food was served in good time after we had ordered. The taste of the food was also good based on 2 dishes (malai kofta and mixed veg.) we had ordered along with tandoori rotis and naans. They had buffett the next day but unfortunately we were on our way back to LA and did not get a chance to try a wider variety of food offered by India palace.

I went here with my friends because we wanted to try some new food. I ordered the chicken tandoori and it was ok, not many spices. The mixed entrees were good. We'll go back to try new things!

Awesome Yummy Quality Fabulous Food with Great Service!!! Must Eat Here!!! We have been eating Indian food for well over 30 years, all across the United States, and this restaurant stands out as one of the best for excellent fresh Indian food, excellent service, and consistent flavor. We order the same exact 2 dishes at every Indian restaurant we have tried (probably 50 restaurants), and the difference is amazing. Some good, a few great, and a few not so good, or horrible. India Palace is one of the great ones. Lucky for us we have this place near our home and can eat there every day if we wanted to. Skip the buffet and try these delicious two dishes, they are perfect and soooooooo yummy!! Chicken Tikka Masala, white meat & Chicken Korma, white meat. We order Spicy 7 (which is hot), all white meat and 2 plain naans to scoop up all the delicious sauce. When made right, these two dishes each are very different and have such a depth of flavor that we have not found in other foods, and this place makes them right! And very important to Indian food is consistency. It has to taste the same every time. Same spices, same meats, same same same... If you are new to indian, try these two dishes and enjoy!! If you thought you didn't like Indian food.....try these two dishes and enjoy. And finally, service here is wonderful. Very attentive. Know their menus and remember us when we show up. Very clean restaurant. Clean bathrooms a huge plus. Nice linens and simple but good decor. It's all about the food here and hope you try this place and love it as much as we do.

I am a complete indian food junkie and have written reviews on other indian food restaurants in San Diego. This one hands down is the best! The chicken tikka masala is SO good I can't bring myself to order anything else. Try the tandoori roti or garlic nan...yum. Their samosas are also quite delicious. They have a very affordable lunch buffet, the atmosphere is very nice and if you become a regular they remember everything about you and what you like. We have always felt very welcome and never had a bad meal here. If you are an indian food junkie like me, check this place out!

A group of us (seven total) went to this restaurant during the summer of 2016 and shared dishes amongst ourselves. This allowed almost all of us to sample a variety of different dishes. Channa masala, dal makhani, aloo gobi, vegetable samosas and pakoras, and malai kofta were among some of the plates ordered. The flavor and spice was very good, it wasn't too hot for us but the heat level was adequate enough to break into a sweat - at least for me. The naan was really good and hot and provided a nice platform for several items. Our grandson (a great fan of lamb) had one of the meat dishes that he dearly loved. The service was very attentive, we ordered and were served promptly. The portions were generous enough that no one went back to the hotel hungry and we actually had some dishes with leftovers - a surprising feat considering that we ate enough to satisfy all of us including a 20 year-old male. Pricing at that time was in the mid teens ($12-15 range) and it didn't cost a fortune to get out of there. I might also point out that some of us have gone to various Indian restaurants across the US and found this to definitely be one of the better places to eat.

So the previous restauranteur has gone.. maybe a year ago. Not a bad thing based on my prior experience. India Palace has moved in from around the corner on University... And seem to be doing well. A tasty meal, more reasonably priced and closer to the real thing. I struggled with a waiter who spoke English as a second language who bought our main courses as we ate our starters. None the less, a place to return to.. and on the iDine Network for those that collect mileage.

We had mango chicken and aside from the name there was no hint of mango and over- spiced; the heat level however was what we ordered.

Wide menu selection, knowledgeable and friendly service, delightful food, huge portions. My wife had a paneer dish and I had lamb. I enjoyed our leftovers for lunch the next day.

This is our first time to this place in SD. We went with a friend on Christmas Day during our travels and were very surprised to find a long wait. The restaurant gave the vibe of being disorganized. We were told that the wait would be at least 30-40 mins but were pleasantly surprised to be seated in less than 10 mins. Different servers came to our table to take different orders and each didn't know what was previously ordered so this enhanced the feeling of confusion. But the food came out on time and all correct so somehow they made it work. Now for the food. Pros: the chicken makhani was delicious. Just the right amount of spice and generally well made. The lamb biryani was my favorite of all the dishes and I'm not easy to please when it comes to biryanj. The baegen Bharta got mixed reviews. I liked it al right but some others didn't. The navratan korma was quite good. The chicken 65 although different from traditional was rather good. Cons: the Nan's were rather doughy and disappointing. The samosas were eh, and the paneer pakora was not crisp. I have a feeling that because of the unexpected rush the kitchen wasn't able to handle these things too well. Overall it's probably closer to a 3.5 rather than 4 stars

I was extremely happy with the lunch buffet selection. Kept my water glass full and even helped me find a seat close to an outlet as my phone needed to be charged. The buffet was $12 which was a little more than I wanted to pay and is why I rated 4/5 and not 5/5. The food is delicious and probably worth the $12 to most people. All in all I would recommend this restaurant.

Disarmingly set and a nondescript strip mall, this restaurant is a gem. Walking through the door, one is immediately delighted with the smells of fresh Indian spices. The room is softly lit, and the tables Elegantly covered. The menu is quite extensive with foods from many different areas of India. My wife, myself, and another couple enjoyed a combination of vegetarian and meat dishes that were all exquisitely seasoned. Although we asked for the food to be prepared mild, there was still plenty of flavor and each dish had a subtle blending of ingredients that produced layers of flavor which were very delightful to the palate. The wait staff was responsive, and the service was excellent. We topped the evening off with fresh mango ice cream. I would rate this as among the best Indian food I have eaten and strong recommended for anyone who is a lover of Indian cuisine

Visited today while on a vacation in San Diego. The place is nice , good food. Bit mild , probably to suit the American palette ...

While visiting my niece and nephew we dined on Indian food at India Palace. This place is a charming getaway from urban San Diego life with its Indian decor and the Indian music. We picked a variety of dishes from moderate heat to HOT. All delicious.

Ok so I haven't been to India. So I don't know if it's completely authentic. Owners are Pakistani I think. But I know good food. Actually, this is excellent food! The service? The waiters are sooooo attentive and on top of everything. I even think they may be overstaffed. But hey, I'm a happy camper when I'm there. Decor- i would say it could use a little facelift and a speck of fresh air.... But it's clean and I would tell friends to go there any day of the week!

This is our first choice when it comes to Indian food. It's always fresh and delicious. Parking can be challenging during lunch time. The restaurant has an outside patio that is very romantic. Great customer service !

Great place for Indian Punjabi Authentic food in San Diego, excellent food quality and selection of drinks, very beautifully decorated, great location.

We have been this this restaurant several times before. It is one of our favorites if you love Indian food and great curry. It always has a nice crowd but you never have to wait. The service is great and they come and checkup on you all the time. The food is way above average and very flavorful and can be ordered extra spicy if you like it that way. The prices are moderate and the restaurant is nicely furnished. It's one of those places that you will go back to after the first time.

Bland biriyani, sour, spoiled raita. They probably save last week's leftovers for the delivery and takeout customers.

I think this restaurant is in Hillcrest, San Diego ... not La Jolla. It's in the University area and so popular with everyone. Food was OK ... I would have given them an extra point but my shrimp were overcooked. Appetizer sampler can do with re-vamping be replacing the potato with vegetable pakoras or even lamb kebab. We confused the waiter by asking for a shrimp pasanda (pasanda is only on the lamb menu) but they did it.

I love Indian food and I have tried restaurants over the county of San Diego but nothing compares to India Palace. The food is fabulous and the service is superb. They have the best curries in town not to mention the traditional dishes. Every time I eat at India Palace I get reminded why it is the best. If you are looking for a caterer they do it with pure class with every step. The staff are so polite and helpful and there for your every need. I cannot recommend this place enough!

When I'm in San Diego this is my go-to restaurant for Indian food. Their lunchtime buffets are delicious, reasonably priced and feature a good variety of vegetarian dishes, which is important to me. The hosts and waiters are always friendly, welcoming and helpful and the outdoor seating area is just the perfect place to be for lunch.

I have been to India Palace a couple of times now and the food is outstanding. You will get wonderful service as well. The parking lot is small, but don't let that discourage you from going. The vindaloo dishes are excellent. I highly recommend trying the India Palace if you are in San Diego.

Ordered delivery from India Palace and was not disappointed. Generous portions, and very flavorful food! Chicken korma was creamy and the khir had a wonderful cardamom flavor.

This restaurant is very good. We arrived at some time in the middle between lunch and dinner, but they served us. We ordered lamb and chicken and both were very tasty. I do recommend the place!

Got this takeaway for two. Had lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala! Lots of meat that was tender and flavour.Naan was yummy!! The raita was a bit runny as I like mine slightly thick. Prices fair as you get a lot!! Two curries and two naan could have done three of us.

India Palace is a small restaurant on University Avenue in a shopping mall. Almost all the waiters and the cook are all from the same town close to Jullundar in Punjab, India, and most restaurateurs in US are from this area. The food you get is usually very authentic. Unfortunately that was not the case for us. We ordered Onion Bhaji (onion fritters deep fried), aloo-gobhi (potatoes and cauliflower), dhal, yogurt, roti and carrot halwa (dessert). The onion bhaji almost tasted like onion rings without the gentle spicing of the Indian type. The aloo-gobhi did not have an authentic sauce and had no resemblance to the genuine stuff. Our worst experience was with the carrot halwa. This dish takes a long time to cook and cannot be made instantly. Ours tasted like some cooked carrots in hot milk with sugar! We returned the dish and they took it back without a fuss. The service is quite good. We noticed a large number of local clientale and perhaps the food is geared towards them. Our dishes, ordered medium spiced, turned out to be quite hot.

was here for dinner so just had a couple of main dishes and some naan.and that was very filling .the food is very tasty the setting is bit nicer than many Indian places i have been.very friendly staff a nice setting if your in the area hillcrest or nearby i would recommend checking this place out.

The waterfall drew us in for the lunch buffet. Food choice was excellent, service was attentive and the décor is very interesting. Would return. Lunch buffet was $12 for all you can eat. Would return

The decor has an inviting vibe but on such a nice afternoon I was happy to sit at a table outside looking out to the sidewalk and street. The food is authentic, flavorful and plentiful on the buffet. Hot naan bread was brought to my table along with a big bottle of Indian Flying Horse beer. It's always nice to find ethnic restaurants to enjoy.

It is located in Hillcrest and not in La Jolla. Off 163 and Washington. Ordered appetizer that was assorted. Lamb and vegetable samosas, breaded paneer, fritters of chicken and veggies accompanied by a sweet and spicy sauce-$9. Next, I ordered delicious garlic naan-$3 to accompany murgh curry-$14. Ordered it at medium spicy and it was amazing. Finished off with the perfect cup of chai tea-$3. I will definitely make this a regular pit stop. We just missed their buffet from 11-3.
Amazing food
Some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Grub hub delivers and great to use while staying near the airport. Highly recommend!!
