It's my best place o eat. The taste is so jummy. We love real fresh spice on our food, so, that's why we come here. People r so sweet. Ricardo and Nelsy

We came around 3:30-4pm on a Saturday & were one of three tables. The buffet was out & hot with a considerable assortment of traditional dishes. The only thing that kept this from a fourth star was everything was mild in the spice intensity. Growing up in San Antonio I like a dish here & there with a good kick and sadly nothing left my nose running. (You know, when you're sucking air into your mouth saying "wooo wooo ahhh", like that.) The flavor was very good either way. Also the service was exceptional, although that could have been due to the small crowd. Definitely would go back, maybe to order off the full menu instead. Price was about $25 for two buffets & waters. Oh! They do bring garlic naan to the table in a basket, try not to fill up just on that, I did.

Love the buffet option. It includes regular Naan and tea. They have a delicious variety of foods. I love their Chicken Tikka Masala and vegetable Samosa. I've been there several times~

I tried several Indian restaurants in the area in San Antonio area in last couple of years since I moved here from CT. I was skeptical at first since other restaurants were downers. Taj Palace is spacious, nicely decorated, and it feels like you’re in Punjab. Service was efficient. Food was tasty. I will visit again....

We used to eat here regularly when we lived in the area. Now it is a special treat to go back from time to time. Nothing changes. Same people, same food, same chai. Everything is wonderful. I can’t think of a single reason to deduct any points, so five stars it is. They often have coupons which makes it even a better deal.

Quality of the food was the worst, cold food, tasteless & the lady who took us to the table was looked like working bcoz she had to, no smile, no welcome. Curry was diluted with water, appetizer was cold & chicken curry had no chicken!! At the checkout, i gave coupon but, she gave an excuse that coupon has to be printed. There was an option to redeem coupon on the phone but, she refused to redeem on the phone & insisted to printed copy. She just didn't want to honor the coupon. I hate these kind of people who LURE people with FALSE ADVERTISING, if you do not have guts to honor the promotion then don't advertise!!! Bottom line, tasteless food, poor service, DO NOT WASTE time and money.....

I have visited a few indian buffets. This one is close by and very tasty. Good selection of foods and all done well. MY sons enjoy eating here too when I take them out for ethnic food. My co-workers enjoy this place also. all in all, a good place for indian food. owners and staff are fast and polite.

We always love the eating Indian food at this restaurant. The buffet has a wonderful variety of selections that are perfectly spiced and always taste fresh. We have taken several couples to this restaurant, and 100% of them have loved it!! We actually are taking another couple there next week, and I’m sure they will love it also. A perfect restaurant to take first time Indian food eaters. You will not be disappointed!!

We come here often usually without the kids but this time we brought them expecting to fight about dinner but they loved it! So mom dad and two kids approved!

Another outstanding meal and service today. I love the buffet not because I like to stuff myself but because of the wonderful and varied selection of delectable dishes. I alway leave India Taj-Place completely happy and satisfied. The Naan is wonderful and fresh. I alway take what we don't eat home for a snack later. The service is also outstanding. Try it - you won't be disappointed.

We stopped in on a weekday afternoon and were greeted and seated immediately. While we filled our plates at the buffet, our drinks and naan arrived at our table. Our water glasses were kept filled throughout the meal. There was a selection of at least fifteen dishes at the buffet, so we both had to go back several times to taste as many as we could and have seconds on our favorites. I really liked the Chana masala, and my husband loved the paneer and the mango pudding for dessert. The lunch prices seem a bit high, but on the other hand, it is Stone Oak, and there is a large selection of very good food. We will definitely return here.

I know indian food, this one didn't taste that good. I am surprised at such high reviews, maybe they had a bad day. I had buffet, only think I liked there was kadhi pakoda, rest was average.

My sense of taste has been growing since i was a child and the pleasure i receive from food is something i cant even describe, but this restaurant left my taste buds in shock. if you're in the San Antonio area and youre looking for indian food this would be your best choice.

Thank Goodness we finally found some legitimate Indian food in this city, we were starting to get worried. Been to a couple of places already, several of which disappointed us to varying degrees, but finally, yes finally, we found our place. This restaurant in an unassuming little local strip mall definitely has the goods to satisfy our demanding standards for proper Indian food. They have all of our favorites (madras, tikka massala, vindaloo and so on, and had some very tasty naans as well, and also a good mango yogurt drink too, but most importantly, it's all prepared correctly. Meaning authentically. This was Indian food for people who know real Indian food, and want authentic Indian food. And though it's never a requirement for us of course, but always seems to be what accompanies the best and most legitimate food, they have that kitschy-almost- cheesily-decorated ethnic vibe with pictures of deities etc etc, that honestly, we always find to be a very charming hallmark of these authentic family run type places, where food quality trumps style, and substance trumps form. So well done India Taj Palace, you have our business any time we crave some Indian food ! We look forward to our next visit.

I based my decision to dine here based on the reviews on tripadvisor. The pictures and positive reviews made it an anticipated experience that I felt would live up to standards. It was a buffet so I should have found something to eat for the lunch price of $10.99. The service is about the only thing that I can rave about & saves this review from being lower. The gentleman, which appeared to be the owner (?) sure ran the place very well. He was cleaning tables and on top of the entire place! I wish that other restaurants were like that. The buffet was disappointing though and not to mention paying $2.50 for ONE can of soda. The pictures posted on tripadvisor is pretty much the entire buffet besides some cucumber, a sauce and 2 sweets on the other side of the bar. I tried unsuccessfully to find their menu on their website before going but it wasn't listed or I just simply couldn't find it due to difficulty navigating their website. As for the actual food, the spring rolls were cold & when more were brought out, the ends were all burnt. The meat dishes had undesirable pieces floating in them, not the best pieces of chicken mixed in the dish from what my dining companion stated. I am vegan and chose Indian cuisine due to normally a wide selection of vegetables at restaurants but most of the dishes had cheese or milk products incorporated in them. The bread brought to the table even had what appeared to be butter (?) on it so I passed on that too. My partner said that the bread was really good. I ate a few different dishes but was not exactly pleased. As for the inside, the building isn't extremely old but the decor makes it feel a lot older/dated, almost like a Chinese restaurants vibe with the tablecloths, colors and furniture. My table had a big picture of a woman under the glass staring at me the entire meal. It was tacky. There was ample parking though and as previously mentioned, the service was the best part of the meal. The other diners seemed to enjoy their meals due to them sharing the same culture so please don't judge the place based just on my review.

We have eaten at this family-owned restaurant for going on 10 years. Wonderful people, wonderful flavors, relaxed atmosphere. Sadly, we have moved out of town and haven't been able to get back as much as we used to. We were back in town for the day and had dinner. As always, their food was delicious and we were greeted with a warm smile. They offer lunch/dinner buffet or order from the menu. You can't go wrong with what ever choice you make. If you go to their website they offer a discount coupon good for lunch or dinner. As I've mentioned, it is family-owned, but also family run which gives it that special something. In my humble opinion, it is hands-down the best Indian restaurant in town. I've yet found any place that offers chai as flavorful as theirs.

This looked like a great place, had great Tripadvisor reviews, and a nice website with a lot of dishes that sounded great. So we went there for dinner, the four of us, and I was all set to start ordering, but the guy who came to our table (he seemed more than a waiter - was he the owner/manager?) urged us to try the buffet instead of ordering. Hmmmm, not sure why. We were there for a very early dinner, around 4:30PM, and there was only one other occupied table. Maybe he just wanted us to finish up what had already been put out for the buffet, was my suspicion (afterwards). Anyway, so we ended up getting the buffet, and it was pretty mediocre. The chicken was overcooked and tough, the other meats offered in the buffet were fairly limited, and the sauces/stews were not creamy enough. The garlic Nan bread was pretty good, and the only positive. The best Indian food I have had have thick rich creamy sauces/stews bursting with flavor, with delicately cooked meats. This place was not like that. My wife like the food, but in general she likes almost all of the Indian restaurants we have tried, especially the ones I found rather bland. I have had better. Would it have been better ordering off the menu? Dunno.

My husband & I had never tried Indian food and had heard great reviews about this place! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and sat! The restaurant wasn't too busy! The waiter was the owner, I believe... He was very nice! We explained that we had never had Indian Food and he recommended the buffet. Everything was very good! Of course, I have nothing to compare it to... But it was hot, looked fresh... and had great flavor! Everyone there was soooo incredibly friendly! We loved this restaurant and will definitely go back when we are in San Antonio! : ))

Have been here dozen times over last 10 years, and it has gone downhill recently from mediocre to outright aweful. This week was invited to dinner on a weeknight. All dishes were stale and bland, the rice were so hard it was obvious the food was carried over from the lunch buffet.

Have been there twice for the evening buffet. Big line up of dishes including soup and desserts. Waiter immediately brought hot bread to the table. Tried most everything except some of the hot curries. Everything was very good. Food was hot. Everything appeared to be clean.

Visiting decided to give this place a try due to the rave reviews. Great buffet choices especially vegetarian, loved the fresh naan. Indian grocery store next door where you can load up on favorites including European foods. Very accommodating for 2 picky kids!

Great Buffet. Lots to chose from! Will come back with the family. Nice dining area and wasn’t too busy during lunch.

Stopped here recently for the lunch buffet. Indian food is great - very fresh even at the end of the lunch period. The lentil soup is excellent as is the chicken tikka masala. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys Indian food.

India Tag-Palace is a rare and hidden gem! Everything here is absolutely mouthwatering and delicious. You have to be adventurous and try a little bit of everything because if you don't, you'll be missing out on so many savory and intense flavors your palate has never tasted before. I didn't even know this place was a buffet, but after trying bits of everything, I was not disappointed at all. It may seem like there aren't a lot of dishes but it surely is enough to get you going back for more and more. And don't get me even started on their complimentary naans. Oh. My. Gosh. It is just SO delicious. It has this really nice garlic taste to it, it's just to die for. And the food too, it's authentic. I was afraid since it's a buffet, the Indian cuisine would be Americanized a bit, but it's legit. I loved the Curry Pakora and just ate so much of it with my rice and naan. Mmm, I wish I could have some more even now! Now, I'm not a big fan of buffets and I rarely get 2nd servings since nothing really seems appetizing at buffets. But here, I went back for 3rds and even had dessert (twice)! I have never been so satisfied and stuffed at the same time. This was definitely an awesome experience and I will coming back for more.

I came in this restaurant at night to eat dinner all dishes are cold nothing interesting you'll find .

Based on recommendation from a regular customer we decided to try this place out. Had lots of options to choose from in the buffet but most things were average tasting. Nothing that I can boast about. Sweets were below average. Customer service OK. Ambiance is good. Will try a new place next time.

I love this place. I just moved to San Antonio 3 months ago from CA. I do miss the variety of food that CA offers. I went to this place with some friends from meetup and I really enjoyed the food. I can says that I'm a pretty picky eater and this place fulfill all my food requirements ( clean, really tasteful and great service) . The garlic naan is so delicious.

I've been coming here for some time and it's remained a solid four stars. Well, today that changed for two reasons. The first was the food was extra tasty with a little bit more heat; my friend noticed it too. Taj India Palace is one of the most consistent buffets, Indian or other, in San Antonio. As noted in my other review, it's the perfect place for an Indian food novice to take the plunge into this complex cuisine. But the real reason for the extra star was the chai. I've never ordered it before, expecting it to be as others I've tried--tea and spices brewed together, milk added the it's up to the customer to add the sugar. That's not how it's made in India; the milk and sugar are part of the brewing process. When I found that Taj made theirs the traditional way, I ordered and was more than pleased. Memories of my years in India came back--a wonderful feeling. And there are refills! The service continues to be excellent and friendly; neither chai cup nor water made it to half empty before they were refilled. And as always, we were made to feel most welcome. The food is continually replaced and the buffet area is spotless. Couldn't ask for more. So come for the food, the service, the atmosphere--and that chai!!!

This review is for the lunch buffet of 11/12/16. I lived in India for 16 years; I loved the country, loved the people, loved the food. I lived in the State of Kerala, which is in the far south; their food is quite different from the northern style served at India Taj Palace and the other Indian restaurants in San Antonio. But I made many trips to the north, so I'm very familiar with the food. I was impressed with the way we were greeted and seated--none of the American, "Hi, guys," but the mannered, low-key welcome so common in India. I felt immediately at home. The buffet had a wide range of dishes, familiar to most--chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, etc.--but there were a few not-so-common as well, such as pakora curry and goat curry. Also present were two of my favorites, aloo baingan and Navratan Korma. Appetizers were vegetable samosa, vegetable pakora and egg rolls. Yes, egg rolls. You may think it odd to have a Chinese item on the buffet but some of the best Chinese food I've eaten was in India--and these were very good. Desserts for the day included gulab jamun, khir, mango custard and semolina cake--all quite tasty. Overall, the spicing was done very well and none of the dishes were greasy. The flavor of each dish was distinct, something that is not always the case. That said, none of the dishes were even in the least bit spicy hot. Heat is a quintessential component of Indian food, especially that from the northern region. Some flavors were muted, I suppose to cater to American tastes. For these reasons, I can award only four stars. But we will return as the staff is accommodating, food is replenished regularly and the buffet area was kept very clean. I can definitely recommend India Taj Palace buffet for those wishing to try Indian food for the first time, as they can experience a wide variety of dishes without the fear of spicy heat.

I've never had Indian food before this and it was an eye opening experience. The food was absolutely fantastic. Their masala was to die for! Whenever I crave Indian I will be going back here.

Great Indian food and good service provide by the owners go before 4 in the afternoon and the cost is $10 dollars instead of $12. Good and clean Location

I went here with one of my friends for the first time and I absolutely loved it! Everything was amazing from the service to the food. When I first walked in we were greated very nicely by their friendly staff. We went during their lunch time (Which is cheaper) and had the buffet and two mango lassis and they were heavenly. They also had amazing naan! It was fresh and warm and very tasty. The staff were great at serving us the Naan and the lassi. The lunch buffet was amazing too. My favorite was the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Saag Panner, but I still liked all of them. We also tried their desserts. The Rice Pudding was wonderful. My friend and I have been to other indian restaurants before, but this one will always be on the top of my chart!

we ate here with my friends family and the food was good we enjoyed it. It's was spicy for me and I can't eat spicy food but the food was really good so I still end up eating them there's a lot of choices because we got the buffet. it's a little bit pricey we ate here dinner time and their child preference is 10 and above is considered as a adult.

We went there for take away I called them gave them my order it was ready after 20 min It was my first time And we love it They have a website u can check them on yelp.com for menu and timings and more comments on them Ny husband recommended for his friends and they loved it too

Maybe my wife and me are spoiled after 14 years in Kenya and exposure to Indian Cuisine at it's finest. The buffett offered IS good value for the money and the Chicken Masala for me was the best dish.

Came here for the lunch buffet it was quite extensive and extremely tasty. The goat was extremely tender and delicious.. samosas and egg rolls were also offered. The restaurant was very clean and the service was very attentive. The Tai Chai was wonderful also with free refills. Would love to return.

First time to go to this restaurant. The place was neat and clean and very large. They seemed to want you to try the buffet. The buffet did not look fresh. We tried the menu. The service was fast and good. The food was not up to typical standards. The chicken tandoori was dry as the the rice.

We have gone for the buffet many times and have ordered from the menu a couple times. Buffet is great for a quick meal and offers quite a good selection. If we are running errands in the area we will pop in for a quick meal. Never been disappointed. Ordering off the menu is quite good as well but we like the variety on the buffet. Service is always excellent

I went their with my friends.. The service was outstanding very polite people. They brought fresh naans to the table. Yummy north Indian food..

My family loves Indian food. We were a bit tired of the same flavours after a few days vacationing in the US so we decided to look for something different near our hotel. I made a quick search online for Indian restaurants and found this gem. We enjoyed a delicious buffet with many vegetarian options and tasty desserts. The naan bread is out of this world, and the waiters are very attentive and nice. You get a very good sample of Indian favorites. We would definitely return on a future trip to San Antonio.

I do not have a gluten issue but my wife does. We have tried lots of Indian places but when it comes to gluten they can't always tell us what is gluten-free or not. Most of the curries were gluten free, they even had a lentil based naan. The owner of Taj Palace was very knowledgeable and my wife was able to try several items she would not have as a result. Not to say it was only for those watching gluten. The buffet had a lot of choices and the food was very good. They serve alcoholic beverages if you want a beer. Try it and you will be back.

We had been craving good Indian food for several days and decided to make the trip to India Taj Palace in San Antonio. It was well worth it. My wife and I decided to share the Royal dinner which is a sampler for two of several different meat and vegetable dishes. Almost like having a buffet. Of course the buffet is currently closed because of Covid, but this was a suitable substitute. Our son in law and daughter decided to have Chicken Tiki Masala which is always good. They serve a great garlic naan. And if you are Gluten Free like my wife, you can order papadam instead. The food is prepared as you order so it does take a little longer to get it, but your patience will be rewarded with some great Indian food. The service was excellent with several servers available and attentive to our needs.

Ok, so I was recently out at a newer Indian restaurant called Tärka near by. I was a bit disappointed by the commercial feel and taste. In all honesty, my quench for Indian food was not filled there. I searched quite frantically on Trip Advisor to see where I could find authentic Indian food. After reading many of the reviews, I was sold this was the place. It is good- don´t get me wrong. But I in all honesty did not find this place to be anything to call home about. The Naan is truly better at Tarka, but the dishes are better prepared here. I wish the food would have been spicier like in India. Would I come back? Maybe. Again, I expected better.

$13.00 for the buffet which isn't bad, only I expect more than 10 options, all very similar ( and what my son described as a generally canned ravioli taste). The rice pudding, sadly, tasted something like Pledge and was more like rice soup. Not many people there--maybe 10 including us and I see why!!

Taj Palace is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. The food here is always top-notch, and the service is fantastic. It's hard to select just a few dishes to highlight, since everything here is wonderful, but the saag paneer here is really something special. The spinach is both spicy and sweet at the same time, and has a beautiful creamy consistency that melts in your mouth. The tandoori chicken here is some of the best I've ever had, and the naan here is light and fluffy as it should be (but so rarely is). I love everything about this place, and look forward to going back for many years to come.

I travel often, but San Antonio is home. I have the chance to visit my favorite Indian Restaurants in New York, LA, etc. However, for years I have been looking for a great Indian restaurant in San Antonio...I finally found it. All of the dishes were properly spiced, and each had a richness authentic to the region of origin. Nothing was too "hot/spicy". Each table receives garlic nan (freshly made and hot from the oven--obviously not frozen and heated up in a microwave). The buffet has a wide selection of vegetarian and meat dishes. The Marsala tea is terrific. I highly recommend this restaurant whenever you are looking for an Indian restaurant in San Antonio.

We were a group of 7 people, 4 adults and 3 kids who were returning from Schlitterbahn water park after a blast of a day and were hungry and tired and exhausted all at the same time. We were desperately looking for a nice restaurant close to our hotel and found this one and the fact they had buffet even during dinner made it easier to chose this restaurant since that takes out the hassle of ordering etc and we wanted to dive into the food directly. The restaurant is quite spacious and the ambience was nice and the decor if not elaborate was quiet appropriate. The food was arranged in two separate buffet pod, one for salads, chutneys and dessert (5 options, more later) and the other one was for the main course which comprised of many options with at least 3-4 veg dishes, daal (lentils), 3 chicken entrees, 1 goat curry and 1 beef curry and even tandoori chicken. The also had plain rice and biriyani and a veg pakoras and samosas as appetizers. So overall numerious options. All the options were quiet tasty except for the goat curry which most of us did not like that much. The best part was the hot butter/garlic naan which was included in the buffet and was served directly on our table. All of us mostly enjoyed the food. Then came the time for the dessert and we all rushed in anticipation but unfortunately we were a bit dissapointed there. The "Rasmalai" was hard and the taste was not up to the mark and same was for the "Semolina Cake". They had $2 off coupons on their website which made the dinner even more affordable. At least it's value was much more than the chicken sandwich with fries which we had in the amusement park earlier in the day.

I want to give a four and a half star it is very mediocre half of the food was okay and half of the it's alright

The dinner buffet is outstanding. Very fresh and hot with a lot of items to choose from. The staff is also excellent.

If you are Indian food taste lover and in San Antonio, you must give it a try and you will fell in love with this. You will get all items but pure authentic taste. There is buffet also available. Before you start the meal, have may some samosas, pakoras with chatni and you will an you can have veg and non veg with love it. Be careful, these refreshments are so tasty you may get your tummy full. Now you can try meals and there are varieties of food available like kadi, pakka paneer, mix veg, daal, Chile, non veg 2 or items, salads etc. Once you are done with meal, here's another surprise. SWEETSSSS. you can have gulab jamun, laddu, kheer. If you don't want to have buffet, go for ordering any other item. My favourite is Chole-bhature with pickle and then tea. My craving for it and going now for lunch.

Yes, Trip Advisor, I am reviewing it after visiting here again. And again. And again. We first started when we lived two blocks away. Now we live 20 miles away, but still come here when we are in the area. The food doesn’t vary much, but that’s okay. There is good variety, and the quality is always high. I would call this our favorite Indian restaurant in San Antonio. Practice makes perfect.

Family run business, superb service and outstand food. We've found this place 4 years ago and go there whenever we are in SA. Buffet style dining but you can order from a menu. The buffet is wonderful. The spices and seasoning are a treat to the noise and taste buds. You can't find a friendlier place to eat, always greeted with a smile and special requests are always fulfilled. It a treat and a great value.

We wanted to have dinner at a top rated India restaurant in San Antonio and this one got the top votes from our team. We went there by 7pm (on a Tuesday night) and we were the only ones in the restaurant. By the time we left around 8:15 the place was really started to fill up. Although you could order from the menu, they had a full buffet with about 10-12 hot options, rice, and about 4-5 dessert options. They waiter brought a couple orders of Naan which was very good. Overall, the restaurant food was 'pretty good', not the best I've had but still good. I really liked the buffet as it gave me a chance to try a number of different dishes. In terms of service, our waiter was excellent, very prompt, and took away our dirty dishes quickly.
Best. Indian. Ever.
I am really picky about Indian food. It is my absolute fave. I cannot believe this place exists in San Antonio! The food is amazing, come hungry! They have a buffet all day, so yes, no limiting yourself to one dish at dinner, you can have the whole variety. The staff is friendly, never waiting around on a refill or with dirty plates. Let's put it this way, it's a buffet, and I tip better here than at some black tie stuffy place. With restaurants, it's the food. And the food here is bonkers good!
