We took my brother and sister-in-law here for what I hoped would be a romantic dinner with a woodsy, candle lit ambience. What we experienced was slow service, a nearby table with screaming toddlers, and what was clearly the decor of a wedding reception that had likely occurred earlier that day. I remember coming here years before and the tables were nestled under the trees. Now it feels more like a banquet hall with gobs of white flowing frou-frou. That look is fine for a wedding but for regular diners paying quite a bit for their meal, it felt a bit cheap to be seated in what felt like a just ended wedding reception. I really wanted to love this place and treat my family to a memorable night. At least we kept our sense of humor and had some laughs about it on the way home. In fairness, I'm sympathetic about the slow service as I'm guessing it was due to staff shortages related to Covid.

Let me start off by saying that the service was wonderful the entire time. They had so many reservations on Mother’s Day, and yet we were treated very well and given thorough attention. The buffet was definitely pretty extensive, offering a wide variety of options. Many of the offerings were delicious, like the crab legs, octopus salad, quiche, and chipotle chicken. However, I found many of the desserts to be lacking flavor and moisture. They do have many vegan and gluten-free options which was intriguing, but I really just wanted a good old-fashioned rich chocolate cake. :-) The ambiance was very peaceful and serene, and overall we all enjoyed our experience very much.

This used to be 5 stars.... It's overall commitment to food quality and service are absolutely gone. I went there yesterday for a lunch with my friend. It was always a great place to nourish the body and the soul. I was just flabbergasted at our service and food quality. We had a short wait for seating and bought some items at the little gift shop, which is always fun. We were seated creekside and we were enjoying the ambiance. Our waitress took our order and promptly returned with our beverages. Some time later we received our lunch entrees without the requested side of bread. I asked for another tea when the meal came and also reminded about the bread and that was the last we saw of the waitress. My salmon was seared to perfection on the outside, only to be discovered gelatinous and raw on the inside. We waited patiently for her to return and after 20 minutes had to get a water person to take the salmon back. By now my friend had finished her entree. After another 10 - 15 minutes and the salmon had not returned, we just got up and found the seating attendant and asked for her to get us a check so we could leave. It was just awful! How could they dive to these depths? We made the trip especially to have a nice lunch and after driving a very long way, it was a disappointing trip indeed. Take this one off the "always recommend" list. It was a steady best-bet for a romantic or good-karma meals for ten years, but not any more. How disappointing

A good friend was moving away and wanted a quintessentially Topanga experience before she left. We visited Inn of the Seventh Ray on a weekday for an early lunch and had a wonderful time. Our server was very friendly and helpful - she suggested we start with a Lavender Mimosa! Who is going to turn down a suggestion like that! Delicious and very decadent! Then we shared some mussels and a very tasty wrap, with some truffle fries. We struggled to decide as there was so much to choose from - the breakfast menu looked great too! We sat on a table overlooking the creek and watched hummingbirds and butterflies while we ate. The price was more than we would usually pay for a lunch but it was a special occasion and certainly wasn't overpriced for both the taste and quality of the food and the ambiance. I'd love to come back for dinner as I'm sure all the lights in the trees would make it feel magical and I'll be back for breakfast too. I would recommend it for a romantic dinner for two, lunch with a friend or breakfast with the family. It would be perfect for out of town visitors too. Go and check it out and have a lavender mimosa ... you won't be disappointed!

Went out for special occasion, our wedding anniversary with out daughter. Ordered Truffle Risotto, Linguine and Filet Mignon. All three were excellent as well as the service. Total including bread was $131, without CA tax or tip which is about 30% or $171 or $57 per person.

I've been going to Inn for many years now. The outdoor seating along the hillside, basically in the woods, is always enjoyable. You never know when a deer or even coyote may pass by. The food is consistently good although I believe a bit overpriced. There is a sort of spiritual vibe to the place as well. Nice funky gift shop too. Limited parking but they do valet. The outdoor infrastructure is beginning to look a bit rundown but it's still a nice place to sit and dine. I thought that the service on the day we went to be rather slow and not all that attentive.

I ordered fish which was truly awful. The bread and herb butter were very good. The two desserts that we ordered were good. It was a beautiful drive up to the restaurant and the area surrounding it. The restaurant was very pretty with many trees and a multitude of white lights in the trees and around the tables. We could also hear a creek flowing below the restaurant.

We actually got married here 15 years ago - the first time I entered the beautiful gates I was awestruck and said “this is the place!” Just absolutely beautiful setting, soft twinkle lights in the trees, fountains, candles, babbling brook... and the food is stunning. The service is usually on the slow side, but if you go there with the intent to enjoy the entire experience, soak it all in, and take your time to savor the environment, the food and the atmosphere, you’ll never want to leave.

Food tasted alright but wasn’t worth the money. Manager kicked out a queer couple despite them not doing anything other than being on a date. Yikes

Just perfect. Ambiance is romantic, food is delicious, service is top notch (all staff wearing masks and visors and all guests wearing masks to their tables). Thank you !

I do not recommend this restaurant. Perhaps I got spoiled by the amazing customer service experiences in middle eastern countries like Dubai, or the superb customer service standards in Asian countries like Japan and Thailand. But even compared to the declining customer service standards we became more and more familiar with in our country, the service at “inn of the seventh ray” is horrible. When my wife and I approached the service desk, there were two ladies standing there talking to each other. They never looked up to acknowledge our presence or have the decency to say “Hi, we will be with you in a moment”! They ignored us completely. I am not completely sure if it was incompetence, arrogance, ignorance, or complete lack of knowledge of proper customer service. In fact, the only good experience we had over there was with Rose, our Irish attendant. Then, the chair I sat in was very wobbly, and the table was extremely small. The whole setup was so wedged against the fence to make room for a walkway to reach the tables behind us. It was awful. Furthermore, after about an hour from finishing the appetizers, the main course arrived!! The brussels sprouts were very difficult to chew, and the short ribs had average taste. On the other hand, the scallops and the mushrooms were delicious. I had been there a few times many years ago, and the ambience and service were much better back then. Not sure if it has new owners or is under new management. Very unfortunate.

I was visiting California and my cousin made plans for lunch at this restaurant. When I told my daughter where we were meeting she yelled OMG, I was going to take you there. She said it was great. I agree! The food was very good. The vibe was cool. I was also told that for dinner, it is very romantic.

Food is decent- the service is professional, but come for the romantic patio and ambience. Lovely lighting- we made a reservation and sat in a more private booth

It has been a while since I was there, however the memory of the magic is still with me. The food was delicate, organic, had a known supplier and history. the setting was just stunning and while we were there a wedding was going on which was lovely. all 8 of us had a really special time there and enjoyed the food and service. A luxury treat if you feel like a pamper.

We recently moved to the area and decided to check out this restaurant for an anniversary dinner based on a friend's recommendation. Reading other reviews here, it appears the food and service can be a hit or miss. Well, apparently we came on the good day as the entire experience was flawless. There was no wait to get in, and our server brought us the bottle of wine within few minutes of sitting down. We had the savory "duck and cheese" donuts to begin, followed by the eggplant and the duck for the main course. For desert we had the black forest "cake" (it's not actually a cake but it's delicious). Great food, highly recommended.

What a lovely little know hidden special eating spot. Wow! Good food and a great spot to spend time with someone, romantic or otherwise.

We were there for a wedding brunch on a Sunday morning. There is a large selection of buffet foods , fruit, and desserts. It is outdoor seating under large umbrellas. A pretty setting, picturesque and quaint. There are steps from the parking area and to the rest rooms. While there is a very narrow ramp, I would not recommend it for a person in a wheelchair or motorized cart.

A beautiful spot Topanga Canyon with a year round creek running alongside the patio. Excellent menu and wonderful service make this a must visit

For a healthy food place, they really should learn how to properly wash their greens etc. to prevent the kind of food-borne illness we both got last time we were there.

Colleagues who once loved it insisted I try this restaurant. I was so excited as we drove into the Canyon and then rolled up. What a beautiful location and restaurant. But within a short time we came to understand that the service was horrible and the food was so-so. Certainly not worth almost $40 for a sandwich, fries and drink. 1. Hard time getting wait staff to order even a glass of water much less drinks and an appetizer. 2. Ordered the Lavender Mimosao: tasted like lemonade. Maybe the huge chunk of lemon dominating the drink? 3. Ordered an appetizer for the three of us. We were told we could have it cut in thirds on three small plates. YES!! Thank you! 4. asked for more water: never came. 5. Asked if we could have some of the lavender syrup that made the drink taste NOT like lemonade. The waiter said, Sure! That never happened. We drank overpriced lemonade. 6. Food finally came after a very long wait...then the appetizer showed up halfway through our meal! 7. Asked for salt and pepper. That also never made it to the table. sigh My friends were embarrassed they made such a big deal out of this place. We all agreed not to return. :(

We went there on a recommendation from a friend. Can't say much about the view because we arrived at night. The setting was the best thing about this place, that's about all the good I can say. Now, I'm all about the California experience as we are from Florida, unfortunately there is no excuse for slow service across the board. It started with the hostess who would call out a name on the list, set off to seat the party, (usually a party of two), and disappear for what would seem to be like 10 minutes at a time. How long does it take to seat a party??? The menu was extremely limited and very over priced compared to the other places we have been while on vacation. I never have a problem paying good money for good food, but we left not feeling very satisfied. (FWIW I'l gladly pay big bucks for a great meal.) Perhaps brunch would be better, but I would prefer not to return. At least my wife and I can say we were there once.

I've been at the end of the seventh Ray many many times. This last time was for a wedding, and the food was not very good. However, I have been there for dinner and I've been there for brunch, and I've never been disappointed. The staff was very friendly, the food is very earthy, and the bookstores very woo-woo. I am sure I will go there again, and I would not it hesitate to recommend this place, especially to someone with food issues

When my fiance took me to Inn of the Seventh Ray to check it out for our wedding, I told him we didn't need to look any further. This place would be perfect -- and it was. Greg and I got married on Sunday. We, and all of our guests, couldn’t have been happier with everything about the wedding. The place was beautiful, especially at night with the magical fairy lights and chandeliers. The food was absolutely delicious (I highly recommend the shaved brussels sprouts salad, branzino fish, vegetarian ravioli, roasted root vegetables, and the amazing assortment of pastries). The entire atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. And the wedding coordinator Kelly Hancock and her team did a great job putting everything together. Thank you!

I am sorry it took so long to review one of the most unique and enjoyable restaurants I have ever been. The atmosphere is to die for. Tables are surrounded by trees, plants, rock formations. Hanging lights everywhere. Great wine list, easy going and mannered staff with food that is just wonderful. If I lived in California I would frequent this restaurant. Just plain wonderful

We took our college freshman grandson for dinner here. All three of us came away pleased with the food, the service and the ambience. This is somewhat off the normal tourist tract but represents a very good dining experience with a different L.A. feel. Historically, this restaurant has been noted for its "romantic" feel and hippy, veggie history. The menu changes so we went by local and seasonal and everybody was pleased. It is worth the travel time just to see this quiet side of L.A.

My daughter mentioned going to this restaurant so we took a Sunday drive for brunch. The area is beautiful and the location very picturesque. We enjoyed a some libations and lunch. The 3 of us each enjoyed a different selection on the menu and none of us were disappointed. I would go back again.

Our kids took us here for my birthday last night. It's a beautiful location, obviously. But other than that, it reeked of capitalist inauthenticity, using a cynical "New Age" theme to rope in Angelenos. I'm all for authentic spirituality; my wife is a spiritual director. But this place was 100% BS. The staff were SO FULL OF THEMSELVES around the restaurant, like it was God's gift to us and how lucky we were to be there. Such egoism is the opposite of genuine spiritual awareness, of course. The menu was glazed with soporific New Age stuff, like the food. And it's only "mostly organic" at that! The food was okay. Honestly, the lunch we had at a hole in the wall place in Playa del Rey earlier was MUCH BETTER (TC Organics, FYI) and no pretentious BS along with the food

Meals are listed in order of digestibility. The food is good; the atmosphere is fabulous. Service is satisfactory, but you have to be in the hippie mood. 'scuse me while I kiss the sky, sort of thing... Definitely worth the trip just for the ambiance.

...so much so that we were all physically ill afterwards. Something had clearly been left out at room temperature too long.

We had a really nice dinner here for my birthday. It’s definitely a hidden gem in Topanga Canyon. Parking is valet only and we did have to wait for our table to be ready so we walked through the little gift shop. We were seated near the creek and it was so cool! They had plenty of heaters for when it got chilly and we were comfortable, besides a few bugs here and there. As it got darker, the lighting in the restaurant made for a really romantic feel. It’s definitely a more laid back, European vibe here and the waiters really take their time. I had the truffle risotto and it was so delicious. The rose was great as well. I would love to come back for a date!

My husband and I travelled to Topanga to celebrate my sister and future brother-in-law's engagement. I had called this restaurant TWO AND A HALF WEEKS in advance to reserve a gazebo for the special occasion we were to celebrate. The man on the phone said we were GRANTED the gazebo and if something would come up and it would be taken, he would CALL me and let me know. I DID NOT hear back from this man and we looked forward to this dinner. Yesterday when we arrived, we found out that the gazebo WAS taken anyway. So disappointing no one had even contacted me to inform me, or we could have found a different place. Why even call so far in advance when this happens? We got a regular table, and luckily the atmosphere was really cosy and romantic so we enjoyed our time anyway. The food was amazing. The waiter was nice. The pannacotta that we had for desert was too watery. We let the waiter know so he kindly did not charge us for it. When we exited to go home, the valet guy who had taken care of our cars could not find the keys to my husband's BRAND NEW truck, which was stressful. It turned out that he had forgotten the keys IN the car. Do I need to say more?

This place is as romantic as it gets, with flowers and lights everywhere. Seating is mostly outdoors, but fortunately we were able to partake of the limited indoor seating, as it was 43 degrees the night we dined. We were also close to the fireplace which could not have been more pleasant after an chilly evening of horseback riding. All the food was wonderful, illustrated by the fact that we took much of it home with us. The wait staff was helpful and attentive. You can only order beer and wine, but the wine list is extensive. I must assume that parking could be a problem, but we dined mid-week in the winter so there were no issues. The on-site gift shop is packed with the types of unique items one should expect of a restaurant with their name located in Topanga Canyon. This was our first visit and we have already decided to return for our anniversary when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside.

Whether you go there for a romantic date, with family or to take friends from out of town - the Inn of the Seventh Ray is always a treat. In the evening, heaters keep yo warm on the patio. The inn has an excellent wine selection and lots to choose from on the menu. My friends found the Beef Tartar to be an excellent appetizer. I enjoyed the chicken meatballs. For my entree, the Diver Scallops were prepared to perfection. There is always room for dessert. If you want something light, split the sorbet or ice cream trio.

This is my go to place for special occasion dinners and lunches. Tucked away in the hills above Malibu (or over the hills from Woodland Hills), this place feels like a world apart. The outdoor dining area is nestled alongside a creek and has an incredibly peaceful feel to it. The food and service are even better than the atmosphere. The food is local sourced where possible and ranges from vegan to expertly grilled steaks. Everything I ever had there is fantastic. Favorites are the steak tartare and the cheese platter. The place also has an impressive wine list, the last page of which has a collection of unusual wines, which I have never been disappointed with. Keep in mind that this place is expensive, but you are receiving excellent value in return.

If you were going to dream up a restaurant (other than Froggy's) that perfectly describes the Topanga vibe, this would be it. Good, organic, wholesome food, a beautiful location, and a relaxing, whimsical environment.

Made a reservation for a birthday dinner for my son, and they are organized and committed to stay sustainable and use fresh organic and confirmed the reservation such that they had enough people working to handle the number of diners. We arrived just past sunset and the place was truly magical, not just the lights which are everywhere, but the space seems very tranquil. Excellent changing menu (with the seasons) and the food and presentation was impressive. They have a gazebo table that would be very romantic, for those of you who want an uber romantic experience there. Tables are simple, will warn you on that, like ice cream parlor style but somehow it all works. The hostess was sweet when I asked about a birthday dessert for my son, but the waiter, was miffed or something... NO we did not expect singing waiters, No we did not expect much, but truly either the waiter was having a bad day, or he just thought he was way above having to make us feel welcome and or happy to have us choose this place to celebrate a birthday. The shop is worth your time for a visit, a lovely Russian girl works there (at least that night we visited) and she was awesome to talk to - shared the history of the place and the canyon and her life. Lovely. We found great unusual items and were impressed. Again maybe this waiter guy was just not impressed with us, or maybe he was having a bad day. We still tipped him very well. Highly recommend despite the one small flaw in service. Prices are on par for the excellent cuisine. Worth the time to drive into the canyon if you live in the area or are visiting, you will be enchanted by this place !!!

My husband and I were invited to a wedding at the Inn of the Seventh Ray. The event included the wedding, cocktail hour and dinner. The venue was outside on the canyon. The place is set up so that you can have multiple small events going on without ever thinking that was the case. This was a small wedding 30 people and the service and food were excellent. The cocktail hour were appetizers served by wait staff. Everything served was tasty and not terribly common. The food choices were fish, steak, chicken and a vegetable dish. My husband had the fish and I had the steak. Both were incredibly good and we were happy to be at a wedding with great food. A lovely place to visit and I would probably like to try their menu at some point. I would recommend not driving down the canyon if you have consumed any alcohol. And although we had to wait about 10 minutes, Uber came to drive us home. A fabulous wedding and restaurant.

we had amazing food. the location was like a fairyland set in the woods. tiny twinkling lights loved the gnocchi with mushroom sauce, the skirt steak and crispy duck. great vege options. we phoned ahead and they said we could bring the dog. we were given a lovely table off on a landing on its own, and had a wonderful time. this restaurant believes in local food and has organic as well. also local wine. great service and the wait staff knew their food. we were too full to try desert!

It is a beautiful place. You should go. It's not really known for the food though. It is fine, but if that is your concern probably go somewhere else. We ate here after getting married, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Went here recently while it was raining but it was fine (mostly outdoors). Do not let the rain deter you from going.

We had our wedding with 115 people and it was amazing. The setting was perfect, and gets even prettier at night when the lights turn on. The food was delicious. Kelly, the wedding coordinator, made everything easy and possible. They worked with our specific needs and were able to accommodate multiple special requests. I have no plans to ever get married again, but if I did, I'd go right back

I wish their lemonade ginger had more ginger but it was good! My son was quite pleased with the taste of his omelette that was served with side salad and fries. My shrimp wrap with green papaya was satisfying and filling. It had at least three medium shrimps. Food is fresh. So is the side salad. The dressing was subtle but flavorful. The setting is quite unique, by a creek, with white see through canopy, lights, fountains, verdant with trees and ornamental plants, fragrant with incense and calming music. There were tables that have privacy. Service was friendly.

Found this place when it first opened and have gone every time that I make it back to LA. In 1978, it was like Alices Restaurant. The dining under the stars, hippy place served by a little church kitchen. Now it seems it is a wedding destination. Still, the buffet is awesome and atmosphere is transcending.

Check when you make the reservation that there is not a large function on when you visit I have been before a few times, my Californian daughter-in-law has been many, so it was really sad that our evening was so dreadful. The service was extremely slow, the food when we eventually received it, one dish was not cooked and two were cold. Our booking was for eight pm. Out first order which was champagne, took ages to arrive. We eventually received our second attempt main course at ten pm. The uncooked dish was correct this time round, one dish was missing vegetables and the third was cold. We left with only one main dish fully eaten. We were given a fifty dollar voucher for a return visit, but charged the full amount. What should have been a magical experience, as it is a magical place, was a disaster. Oh and the menu is poor not at all what we have experienced before.

The Inn and the surrounding landscape is beautiful and serene. The food is well prepared, healthy and often organic. The service can be slow, but if you go for the experience and are not in a hurry, this is a romantic and tasty outing. Dinners are a la carte and quite expensive. There is an ecclectic lunch menu with buddha salad, omelette, sandwiches and other options. Having said all that, I come here for the Sunday Brunch. It is fabulous. The ample spread of pastries/baked goods/desserts (many gluten-free), as well as the creative and delicious salads and entrees of every kind. If you don't care about seafood including lobster claws and gravlox, consider the slightly lower priced vegetarian brunch option.

We went for a 70th birthday celebration for a Saturday brunch,it was our first time and was so surprised that there's this restaurant settled in the hills of Topanga Canyon.Apparently, its famous for weddings ( though too small for large numbers of visitors),but it is perfect for brunch with girlfriends, anniversaries, birthday celebrations etc. Ours was a party of 30 and it was a bit tight for tables of 8's,but it was fine ( i dont know if they can accommodate more, have to check their website). They're brunch price is reasonable and i love their choices of salads ( different kinds with some without nuts, which is great for those of us with nut allergies). They have pastries, hot dishes, salads, crabs legs, shrimps, breakfast items, desserts. Mimosas are part of the buffet,coffee,tea...Dining here is like dining in a forest -like environment where trees, bushes, plants covers secluded sections of tables and chairs. They're parking space is limited but they have Valet service.

It's a bit out of the way, but worth it. The entire seating area is outside, but undercover. It was cool, so they had several heaters available. When there's more rain in CA, I would expect the "creek" would be flowing, but when we were there it was dry. You still have a feeling of being in a place away from the hustle/bustle that is the 101/405 area. The food was very good (Hamachi portion was more of an amuse bouche than appetizer sized). My wife order the grass feed Filet medium, but it came out well. They quickly brought another out - which tasted much better, as if they didn't use as much truffle butter on the first one. My venison was delicious, as was the couscous. It's a very romantic setting, with several tables in little alcoves. Highly recommended. If the Filet came out correctly the first time, then it would be 5* for the food.

One of the cutest, coziest, most romantic restaurants in LA! The energy here is so calm and serene - you truly can feel it from the moment you walk through the ivy archway. Truly a Topanga gem with such a special history! The food is so intentional - everything is locally sourced and organic. I had the brown rice breakfast bowl and loved it. The sweet potato fries are also *chef's kiss*. Would be a great spot for a date night, anniversary celebration, or a birthday brunch with your girlfriends. Also be sure to check out the bookstore on the property, as well! Lots of spiritual books and gift items for sale. Can't wait to go back!

On a warm summer evening the place is magical. I wish I could say the same about the food. The menu choices are limited. One meat choice (filet) one chicken choice several fish choices and the rest vegetarian and vegan dishes. The ($46) filet scared me away so i ordered the chicken ($34) and I've had better at KFC. My wife had the Sea Bass and she said it was okay but nothing special. My wife and I shared a dinner salad, we shared a glass of wine and we each had an entree. Our bill including tax, tip and parking was $130

then they changed management, they took some great things off their menu and it has never been the same. I have been going to this place for 15 years and the last 2 times I went there I must say that it wasn't the same. I had some issues with my meal and the manager did not care at all. I wasn't looking to get something for free but a sincere apology would have been nice, instead I just got an attitude, never went back

Came here for some drinks and possibly dessert with friends after having lunch at another place nearby. The venue setting is lovely near the creek. Building and grounds look old, tired and not very well maintained. Bathrooms were not very clean or tidy. Table service was robotic-like. We only had drinks and no dessert. Enjoyed our time with friends. Will not be coming back again to eat or experience this place.

The service at Inn of the Seventh Ray is so slow you might want to bring a pillow and take a nap. The place is in a great location. It is old and it shows, but it is somewhat clean. The seating is comfortable. It was a hot day, but it was nice there. We waited to be seated and when we were finally seated we had to ask for a server as she was no where to be found. She was lazy and bored and just a tad rude. She brought us water we had asked for, twice, and it was warm. I asked for ice, it never came. She took our order and it took over an hour for anything to show up. Now, I wanted to just leave, but the family was hungry and wanted to stay we did. That was a mistake. When an eatery shows you they don't care, believe them. The food went from really bad to fine. The CHARRED LEEK & POTATO SOUP was served cold--and this was our first course and again, we waited an hour just for that. The CREAMY TRUFFLE RISOTTO was not warm and was not good at all. Truffles, you ask, where. I could not even taste the flavor of it. Rice-a-Roni is just as good. The ROMAINE & VEGGIE CAESAR was quiet good. We all liked it. Hard to mess up a salad. The BRAISED SHORT RIB was also tasty, but was not served hot and it took forever to get. The SEARED DIVER SCALLOPS were just awful. They were overcooked and cold. The OVEN ROASTED BASS was burned and cold. Cool that they can do both. The entire experience was terrible. We will never be back and I am quite sure they don't care at all.

Really beautiful and picturesque spot! Enjoyed their Sunday brunch buffet for my birthday with complimentary sparkling cider. The food was flavorful and much more health conscious than any other buffet I’ve visited. I really enjoyed it because I didn’t leave feeling too stuffed which is hard to do with a buffet! It was raining so the creek was up, and it was so pretty. It felt like a fun adventure in the rain. It was relaxing to hear the rain under the tarp outside. We were warm enough with the heaters. Their egg dishes and veggies were amazing. Also loved the granola and almost went back for a second bowl. Love that they had almond milk to go with it! Desserts were just okay- nothing so delicious you want more. Waffles were very good!

Everything about this place is stellar! Everything on the brunch buffet is perfect! Great selection of vegetarian options. Outside seating over Topanga Canyon dry riverbed is romantic with fitting decor. Service is friendly.

If I could rate this with negative stars I would. Booked with plenty of time for a Saturday Wedding Night dinner and drove an hour to get there. 1. Gazebo we were told we had was not available until an hour after our dinner reservation. 2. No one was available or anywhere to be found when we arrived for our reservation. 3. Women's bathroom had been taken over by a wedding party and turned into the bridal suite. Apparently they only have one available for guests. It was very awkward and uncomfortable for my wife. 4. When we finally were seated there was a long trail of ants surrounding my wife's back and a lot of fallen twigs and leaves all over the seat. Great combination for a wedding dress! 5. There was a storage space within 5 feet of our backs which reeked of leaking propane tanks which were piled high and lit patio heaters only a few feet away. 6. When I made the reservation I mentioned my wife liked chicken and vegetable entrees. The menu had only a handful of selections and none of what was described when I made the reservation. The parking attendant was gracious and spoke with us when we left after 10 minutes. He noted that the owner was actually a very nice person and would want to hear about our experience. He took my number. As of this writing, 2 days after the debacle, I still have not heard a word. They ruined what was supposed to be a very special evening that we will NEVER GET BACK!! Ken Gunville

This place is a brilliant little hidden gem. Wonderful location and atmosphere with some delicious food. I took a client that lives in LA and none of us ever knew about this place before. It was a great experience. I would also recommend it a great date spot.

I have loved Inn of the Seventh Ray since the first time my now husband took me there 24 years ago. We’re from the east coast but whenever we go to LA (at least 2x per year) we go here. The ambiance is magical and beautiful. The food is good and the staff is nice (although last time the waiter wasn’t exactly friendly) but still a great time because of the scenery.

It is a beautiful, romantic place and the food is good but the portions are teeny. I was not expecting that.

Not impressed with this place: the long drive from LA is not probably worth the rural setting. The restaurant is located in the Canyon and the place is rather appealing but…to have a sandwich (integral part of the menu) it took almost a hour…I mean…service is good and friendly and prices once you add the taxes and service not very convenient!!!

The food didn't impress us much and was just okay. It sounded interesting but nothing wowed us. The venue is outstanding. Haven't been there in over 6 months so not sure if we hit it on a bad day for the chef. It certainly is worth going to at least once, but I wouldn't make a trip from Malibu to experience it given our previous episode. Nothing to complain about, just not what we were expecting.

We went for my birthday along with my son and his family. The food and service were great. The grilled octopus appetizer with kale chips was so good! I had the risotto with shrimp. It was sort of too rich and the shrimp a tad overcooked. The others had the short ribs. That was delectable. Dessert was the lemon tart. Good but a little too tart. Overall I would go again. Great ambience.

If you find yourself driving near Topanga Canyon make a stop at this place! Nestled on an idyllic spot this restaurant was the perfect stop for lunch. Our waiter was so friendly and the whole place has a very relaxed and chilled vibe. I recommend the Warm Rice- the flavours are so refreshing and I was left so satisfied! There is a small book shop attached which is worth a browse. I imagine it must get very booked out in the evenings and it would be uber romantic! So happy we stopped here.

Inn of the Seventh Ray Restaurant is an enchanting dining experience in the heart of nature. The moment you step onto the property, you're transported to a serene oasis with a peaceful ambiance, we were celebrating our anniversary and it was the perfect romantic night! The menu is a delightful fusion of fresh, organic ingredients. Out dishes were delicious! The service is warm and attentive. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or looking for a peaceful escape from the city, Inn of the Seventh Ray Restaurant offers a unique dining experience.

Beautiful location with an even better dining experience. Wonderful staff that was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and pairings. We went back a few nights later to enjoy it again with less of a Saturday night crowd. Highly recommend this charming restaurant that lives up to the hype. The talented chef has crafted a creative menu that sources local and accommodates all dietary requests. Great spot.

Food here is abysmal!! Pasta sucked and perhaps 10 bites for $34 USD? Wasn't hot!! Wasn't good!!! Slowest restaurant on planet earth !!! Boyfriends chicken wasn't hot or tasty!!! The didn't bother with our side dishes and we literally waited 2.5 hours to get served not hot food. Check-in was truly terrible!!! Avoid at all costs!!!!!! Atmosphere was very nice!!! Wine list was EXPENSIVE!!!!We spent $170 USD on food that should have cost perhaps $6-9 USD!!!!!

What a perfect setting overlooking the historic Topanga Creek. Once a hippie hangout, the inn has been converted to a beautiful destination for weddings or just as a place to eat among nature. The food is farm fresh and it feels like you are in another world

There was a charming, casual, beautiful dining experience in the heart of Topanga Canyon. There was a creek, a lovely house with plenty of seating, and there was a rustic charm. You could hear the birds chirping, the creek babbling, the wind rustling the leaves of the trees.....now there is a bleak concrete addition to the dining area where we were seated and promptly ignored. The creek has gone dry (drought), and we couldn't even glimpse the little house because there was a wedding going on and all of the good seating areas were cut off if we were not with the wedding party. Food was haphazard and prepared in a blase manner, the service absolutely dreadful. 25 years ago I actually thought about having MY wedding here. Then I attended a Mother's Day brunch and that nixed it (any holiday must be pure hell here).

Truth? We think the chef might not be right in the head...and probably doesn't taste what he is putting out of the kitchen. Shameful actually. Our party of 4 was hopeful the 5 course NYE tasting menu matched up to the enchanted atmosphere. Unfortunately the menu was more expertly crafted than the actual meal. Soon after we were seated I asked our server (we'll call him O to protect his identity) if the "nettle noodles" were gluten free. He thought so but he would check with chef about that and rest of menu. We start with a delightful apple and champagne amuse bouche and think this is the sign of great things to come. We were mistaken. The first course is a fermented lettuce salad (you read that right) with anchovie and cured egg. We get it, a twist on the 90s caesar salad. Not tasty and covered with crushed croutons. O looks baffled when I ask him for the gluten free version (my first sign that even though he acknowledged my allergy, he has no clue what it entails). We recovers and brings me a salad after the rest of the table has finished theirs. Someone asks O, who has been a server here for 7 years, how the lettuce is fermented. He does not know but says he will ask the chef. We never find out and the question is not addressed. We ask for some glasses and dishes to be cleared and water to be filled. For this uncrowded evening and this price point, this should run like clock work. Course 2: lobster mole with lobster. We were intrigued. Maybe lobster mole was like the lobster tamale? No such luck. This crazed Italian chef decided to make a Mexican chocolate based mole sauce with lobster shell to infuse flavor. Not only was the slipper lobster tail (not real lobster in my book), the fishiest lobster I have ever eaten, the flavors do not work together. We agreed, it was the oddest pairing and nothing being cooked over 180 degrees (not even noted on their website or made mention by server), made the texture mushy and not at all sumptuous as lobster should be. A true miss but not as bad as course 3, I come to realize. Luckily I again asked O about the noodles and they are flour based. I asked for just mushroom ragu that accompanies pasta since chef apparently wouldn't make substitutions (something we weren't informed when we sat down and notified him of my allergy). No can do. No alterations. He would only substitute an exact menu item. Since I was having the tasting menu, the only other item I could have is the nettle soup. So I ordered that...as everyone else ate their noodles (which were okay but underwhelming). My sludge, I mean soup, arrived. Bizarre doesn't even begin to describe this texture/flavor combo. I had everyone at the table try it because I couldn't believe my mouth. In between the off putting taste (like the earth), there was grit. Yep, couldn't even be bothered to properly wash the nettles before purreing them. The only saving grace was the lingcod. The texture was good (but not seasoned) and the froth and foams had some interesting taste. We asked for further clarification on what we were eating but O couldn't provide it. The last course was filet mignon. Weird texture since it wasn't cooked above 180 degrees. Chewy and not seasoned either. The squash pot de creme dessert was well received. Not sweet which we enjoyed and the texture was spot on. For the $100pp price point, the meal did not deliver. The wine pairing for $45 was decent but none of the wines were exceptional...in fact Eco Domain was one of the selections. Enough said. We walked out of there $600 lighter and not much fuller. We did enjoy the atmosphere, the pace of the meal and the clientele.

Wonderful California food experience, nestled in the huge trees on the side of the Topanga canyon. About 30 minutes north from the Santa Monica pier. Eat under the stars and enjoy an interesting menu. I had the flat iron steak and my wife had the duck. For desert we shared the banana bread pudding. .all was excellent! The wine selection is broad with many highend local California wines on the list. A great and essential southern California experience. Make a reservation to get on the list but don't expect to be seated at that time....seating is at the pace dictated by the hostess. ..meanwhile enjoy the cosmic items in the adjacent gift shop..also worth a look.

Lovely indoor and outdoor restaurant, situated in a gorge that runs through Topanga Canyon. Birds, squirrels, even deer will visit you if you sit outside. Glorious setting, good service, great food. Try the buffet. We hear that it is also a great spot for a wedding.

I’m a sceptic when it comes to romantic restaurants but the Inn delivers because the food and service deliver the experience even more than the delightful setting. We spent a full 5 hours over dinner and at no time did we feel anything but welcome to savor the Fine cuisine- we had Albacore Tartar and beef Tartar followed by a Risotto washed down with a particularly Fine Zinfandel from Sonoma. The portion size was so substantial we had to cancel our main course of black cod in favour of finishing with ice cream and cappuccino. Great value and your partner cannot fail to be impressed after the drive through Topanga to get there. Understated excellence

Went for lunch with friends, family and 2month old grandson. Delightful place, it was quiet and we could pick a spot in the shade to eat. Service was good and the food was really good. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Well worth a visit.

It took forever to get seated and not because there were no tables. I think the hostess was also a waitress. While we were waiting in the entrance a couple of mice zipped by (this is outdoors so probably little can be done). Our waiter appeared twice and then we had to ask another waiter for our check, etc. The good news is the food was really good and the atmosphere magical. If you go, be patient or hope they have figured out their server issues.

We found this place and it is absolutely amazing- we had three different dishes. All was really good- this place is a great place with a nice atmosphere.

I came here with my boyfriend for the 7 course tasting menu- It was absolutely mind blowing. We got an outside table and could hear the water running through the forest while enjoying our beautiful meal. Will definitely come back

We dropped in on an impulse. This is a very special place of many spots tucked in spacious nooks in a hillside. Our server, Megan, was attentive, friendly and helpful. We ate excellent food in comfort and leisure. The shrimp and avocado wrap was judged best ever by someone of high standards. The wine list had wines both interesting and affordable. Dessert, a rich chocolate concoction, was superb. As was the coffee. We look forward to returning. The food is carefully sourced for quality and prepared with great care.

My girlfriend and I visited on Saturday 02 September. There was a heat wave in the Los Angeles area and it was quite warm. We arrived early and waited and waited and waited to be seated. After we were seated and selected a wine from the wine list, the bottle we selected wasn't available. We selected an alternate wine and the wine was great although it didn't take long for it to become too hot to drink. Finally, the server brought an ice bucket for the Pinot Noir. The wine served to attract flies and bees. Oysters on the half shell were great. Our main courses were not what we ordered. Overall, it was a dissappointing experience. Our waitress was a nice younger girl who clearly had some to learn. Check for two before tip: US$271. Dissapointing.

I really do not have the words to describe this place! Exotic, whimsical, glamorous, amorous, fascinating, colorful, exciting, fantastic, charming, dreamy, tender, fanciful, maudlin, mysterious, nostalgic, passionate, utopian, wild, visionary, daring, enchanting, extravagant, idyllic, loving, picturesque, poetic, starry-eyed, soppy, fairy-tale, lovey-dovey. Ok maybe I do. Foods pretty good as well. Oh, the frogs just round the place off.. Next time I’m in California, I’m heading back. Thanks for a great meal and experience.

Let me start with the positive: the setting is amazing and most of the staff is friendly (we did have one waiter who looked as if his pet rabbit had died that very morning). However, my girlfriend and I decided to spend New Year's Eve here and it turned out to be very disappointing. We chose the special New Year's Eve Tasting Menu. Most of the staff had no idea what they were serving and the food itself was mediocre at best. Also, I decided to go for the additional wine pairing and - same as the food - it was simply placed on the table without providing any further information as to why these particular wines had been selected. When asking various waiters for information about the dishes they looked dumbfounded most of the time. Additionally, the first couple of dishes were rushed to our table (we had barely put our cutlery down and there they were collecting them and within a minute the next course arrived). We politely told the staff we were in no hurry at all and the following dishes did arrive with more time in between, only to arrive cloddish however. All in all we spent close to 300$ and left feeling very very disappointed.

I love this place. I first came here nearly 20 years ago and loved it. For me it's always the highlight of my trips to California (from London). I just wish I could come more often. There is so much care and detail in everything here. Whenever I am in the area, I go for as many meals as possible! It's a really nice quiet place to go for breakfast in the week - where you can get beautiful healthy options to start your day. Lunch, dinner and sunday brunch are wonderful - it's very romantic in the evenings - so perfect for a date! The music, the view of the creek... magical. I have always thought it would be a special place for a wedding - and I love the bookshop with in full of so many treasures.

Can be a long drive to this lovely restaurant, but it's worth it. Old building covered in vines with natural stone walkways and a stream. Its all outdoors with umbrellas and heaters. The day we were there it drizzled but we were well covered. There are 2 areas to dine. One is used for weddings and overflow dining. A large wedding reception was in progress the day we were there. There are seps from the parking area which is valet. Because the steps down to the eating area are made from stones caution should be taken if you have difficulty on stairs. Once seated our waiter came promptly and took our drink order. There are meat options as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices. On this Saturday they serve brunch either buffet style or order a la carte. We all ordered from the waiter partly because we couldn't see ourselves navigating the stairs with a plate.. Interesting blend of meat and veggies. Eggs are available as well. We were never rushed. It is very quiet there. No external traffic noise.

I've had the pleasure of visiting this magical setting a number of times, for romantic dates, brunch with friends and a couple of weddings. The ambience and location far outweigh the dining experience, sadly. It's just missing that extra something, and the staff are somewhat snooty, which is such a shame because if they got all the ingredients right this place would be booked for months. I'm rating it highly because of the setting, but be warned, if you are used to American fare you'll probably think it's tasty, but I have a more refined, European palette.

Reservation, seated, ordered app and drinks, waiter brought them. Ordered dinner, Someone else brought our dinner. Never saw waiter (Michael) again until we had to ask for check. No drink refills, no checking on us, totally ignored. And the only bread was gluten free, no reason given. Salad and pasta and no bread. Shame we had really looked forward to this place. Not impressed.

Most people come here for the atmosphere which is undoubtedly romantic with all seating outdoors under the trees. The menu is ‘different’ with limited options for those of us who are not foodies. The menu is organically focused and until recently, was entirely vegetarian. We ordered a variety of appetizers, salads, main courses and desserts and they were all fine, nothing special though. There was one wedding proposal (accepted!) while we were there which is what this restaurant is about. One item of note is that they host weddings in an area adjacent to the general dining area and on the evening we were there the DJ was playing loud music which distracted from the ambiance.

I hadn't been to the Inn in 15+ years and went back mainly for the ambience, not expecting much in the way of the food, assuming the restaurant had become bit of a 'has been' - but boy, was I wrong. Our meal was amazing, from beginning to end. We got the kale salad, mushroom toast, risotto and cauliflower, and one was more delicious than the next. I can't stop thinking about the chocolate cake with smoked salt. Couple the food with the charming lights, roaring fire, and frogs making their sounds in the creek below, and it's a recipe for a very charming and tasty night, indeed!

Today we enjoyed excellent food and beautiful surroundings that was spoiled by the poor service we received. (29 April 2017) Unfortunately the waiter did not appear to be totally 'there'! So we waited a long time to receive our drinks and an even longer time for the food to arrive at our table. We heard others complaining so perhaps it was simple that they were understaffed or the staff were new. Wouldn't stop us returning - just feel management should be aware. Would recommend all the same, especially if you have all day to kill.

Whether for special occasion or just an amazing dinner, this is really a great experience. Set almost entirely outside (although they have lots of indoor seating), this creekside location sets your mind at ease. The food options, taste and quality are top notch as well. Always have had a great experience here. The gift shop at the top of the trail is so much fun to browse as well - be sure to spend some time here. Also make sure you make reservations as its a popular weekend destination.

This restaurant is so special in its setting -- next to a live creek with giant live oaks, squirrels and frogs. The food was pretty good but not as excellent as I had hoped. Grandson's burger and fries were quite ordinary unlike at a similar restaurant in Cambria. My three small shrimp with creamy polenta was likewise pretty good, just not excellent as the flavor of the shrimp was pretty much lost in the too buttery polenta. My husbands salmon (not sure if it was wild or farm raised as menu did not specify) was likewise overpowered by the caper sauce. We should have asked. However, the waitering staff were a little slow to check on our table -- we needed a few more pieces of bread with the cheese plate and by the time the bread arrived, the cheese was almost gone. Remember, we had spent the day hiking so we were hungry. However, my major disappointment came with the "something special" the restaurant offered in honor of my 75th birthday. The six people in our party who dined there spent nearly $400 on the food and wine (tip not included). The reservation had been made a month in advance with the notice of it being a special birthday. The special dessert the reservationist spoke of was a tiny scoop of ice cream (about golf ball size) with no accoutrements except a lit candle. This inadequate dessert was to be shared by 6 people! It was totally insufficient and stingy, especially considering how much we spent for dinner. I'll think twice about going there again.

We 'dropped in' on spec and being the foreigners, we were treated to a very nice table near the creek (water not running but still the outlook at night was very nice). Kahn provided a great service and conversation. When we saw the 5-course menu, there was a significant doubt in our minds that we could eat it given the usual portion sizes in the USA but the proportions were just right and each course was flavorsome. Restaurants are always going to be subjective when it comes to reviews but we really enjoyed our evening because the staff were great and the food just right.

We came here to celebrate a wonderful friend’s wedding and it was just magical! Beautiful environment and lovely food. They had some salmon sushi bites and lamb lollipops for appetizers followed by a lovely salad and sea bass and of course wedding cake

This is truly a magical spot if you want a romantic and peaceful evening. It truly made my date special as we had the of opportunity to focus on great conversation under the stars without much distraction. Upon arrival I was politely asked to wait about 10 minutes for my table reservation due to "there only being one waiter tonight and he is slammed". I was invited to visit the gift shop if I liked. No thanks, I have enough crystal, feathers and dream catchers. A glass of wine would have been my preferred choice. I was eventually seated at a table of my choice (bingo) and settled in for the long wait for a drink. By the time the waiter arrived I was ready for the apps and wine. The steak tartar and the cheese plate were great. I would certainly stick to appetizers only next time as the main courses were a little disappointing and flavorless. I had the 8 hour braised short rib and my date had the roasted organic chicken. Both came covered in a mound of organic baby greens that obscured the actual dish. It was hard to tell which was which in the darkness but poking around with an fork finally revealed the food. In would suggest losing the pile of greens it just does not do the dishes justice. I piled my wilted greens onto a separate plate. Over all the dishes were underwhelming and in need of some kosher salt or spice. Pretty bland actually. I would certainly go back for the ambience and the appetizers only. And I would certainly think about some new music. It was playing on a 1/2 hour loop so the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Janni melodies kept repeating over and over again. It reminded me slightly of being in Tinkerbells garden waiting for the fireworks. It is Topanga nonetheless so I even expected Stevie Nicks to belly dance around the table with her angle bracelet bells. Fun experience but not a place I would rush back to.

I've been hearing about this place since I first moved to Los Angeles over 10 years ago. It is very expensive, so that has prevented me from doing such, but I finally went with my wife to celebrate Valentines Day. We get away from our toddler only a handful of times a year, so I figured it was finally time, and we went the Sunday before Valentines Day. This place did not disappoint! It is glorious, like you're eating in a fairyland! I highly recommend going at night with all the lights! The food was very good! I'm rather cynical when it comes to prices like this and what you get for the prices... but I knew what it was going into it... it's the fanciest of restaurants with real fine dinning... so that's part of the deal. If I had thought about that end or was not expecting the prices, I might have felt differently. But being prepared, it was just lovely. The only thing I'd change is the next time I go, I would ask for a more secluded table. They have tables that are off almost in their own rooms in the forest. Also, we had a nice walk after by the water... that was beautiful too. All around great experience. I don't know when I'll ever afford to go back... but I hope I get to experience it again.

Very Hard to Describe this Restaurant because it is much more than a restaurant. You are surrounded by nature and it feels like you are on Vacation in Europe, There is a small beautiful creek down below and trees everywhere. We had Salmon, Seabass, Short Rib, Salads, Brussel Sprouts and more and everything was perfect. The service is friendly, efficient and ready to serve. At the top is a very different bookstore out of the 60's. It has more than books and is fun to browse around. This is truly a restaurant like no other.

We were staying in Topanga Canyon and had planned on dining in Malibu, but after the drives and the roads, decided to stay in town. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and the setting. We were very comfortable sitting outside with the heat lamps. Service was good. It was very expensive, but the food was well prepared and the menu has lots of vegetarian options. It's not an afterthought here. If you go, make sure you check out the bookstore that's attached. Its very new age centric but has a great vibe and beautiful handmade gifts and a large selection of books.

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding at the Inn of the Seventh Ray just a few weeks ago. It was beautiful! The restaurant runs along a creek and with all the brickwork, trees, fountain and twinkling lights it is truly magical. The food was delicious. Our table had a variety of entrees (filet, roasted chicken, and ravioli) and everyone enjoyed their chosen meal. There was also a nice size area for dancing.

We had lunch there, and it's quite a long drive to the restaurant. The setting is quite rustic, close to the main road but still quite secluded and quiet. The buildings and walkways are vine-covered, but the stream that flows next to the restaurant was dry when I was there. We sat outdoors under an umbrella, but it got quite warm anyway. There are indoor areas which I understand are popular venues for wedding and corporate functions. There is adequate car parking, and from the parking lot one walks down a stone-paved walkway which can be slippery and treacherous when wet or dark. The service was excellent, as was the food. I would imagine the place must be quite romantic in the evening.

I have been coming to this place for about 20 years now, once or twice a year. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the LA area, but unfortunately the food isn't good quality any more. The Sunday brunch buffet was the best, before, now I'll tell you DO NOT do the buffet on Sundays.

We always try to get to Inn of the Seventh Ray when visiting from NY. This visit we went on a weekday for breakfast - amazing atmosphere - so lovely to sit outside near the creek bed. The waiter was terrific - attentive without hovering. The food was wonderful. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit. What sounds like a plain order was elevated with the high quality they provided. Delicious! My husband had the duck bacon and brie omelette - we both thought it was amazing. This is such a treat. We didn't want to leave.

Went for Saturday brunch without a reservation. Very friendly, helpful & attentive staff. Nice table location not on top of one another. Very wide selection of items in the buffet , although a few items weren’t replaced but overall really enjoyed the experience. Quite busy around 1pm with a continuous turnover of guests so might be worth booking in advance. Check out the shop too - books, gem stones and a wine shop. Parking is valet only but if you drive past the restaurant there is a small area for off road parking if you’re luck (I assume legal as not I’m not a local).

The Inn has some of the most peaceful and relaxing surroundings in LA. The tables under the white tent are comfortable. The sound of frogs in the river bed below just adds to the charm. There is an eclectic and diverse bookstore attached with books on topics to expand your mind with trinkets and items of interest for everyone. The staff is very cordial and warm and checks in at just the right intervals and has an extensive knowledge of the available wine and food. The food is served creatively and tastefully, never over the top. The flavors complement each other well and the menu includes many vegan and gluten free options. I rarely give 5 stars, but The Inn deserves all 5 of them, especially for ambiance, atmosphere and food options.

I live in Ca, I’m from CA blah blah....never been here before tonight and I jokingly said the drive way to it looks like a cult or commune lol. That being said, our rose was great, beef tartare was nice w a spicy twist. Scottish salmon delish and we cleaned the plate. Sashimi like fish was probably my least fave but still an interesting take. Roni our waitress was great. Table was super romantic and we got to listen to frogs call each other 🤪

This was our first visit to this restaurant. I had heard many wonderful things about the place and so I decided to surprise my wife on our anniversary with a visit. The restaurant is situated in a sylvan area of Topanga Canyon so the setting is beautiful. It is a bit of a drive to get there but worth it. Parking is valet and costs $9, but if you are patient you can find nearby parking for free. The weekend lunch menu is both a buffet and an order from the menu. We ordered the shrimp omelets and they were superb. We had no problem with the service as some diner's have indicated. We were seated within 10 minutes, ordered drinks from the bar within minutes, and had our meal within a few minutes more. All of our servers were excellent. Very efficient and polite. As we left we passed by the buffet, and it looked outstanding - everything that you could possibly imagine. At $50 per person, the buffet is a bargain if you are really hungry. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Only stopped for a few beers but I was instantly charmed by the relaxed feeling of this place. Great beers and very friendly staff!

I love that their menu is pretty seasonal and that it’s farm to table. I come here every year for my birthday with some friends. It is such a gem in the middle of Topanga. Great for dinner with family, friends, or a cute date night. I suggest ordering a few things and sharing.

We visited last night for an early Father’s Day, anniversary and baptism celebration. We were surprisingly seated in their beautiful bungalow. Even though we did not book the space, we were offered the complimentary round of champagne that came with the rental by Michael anyway. Amazing! The ambience was impeccable! The service by everyone especially Michael, our server was beyond 5 stars! Initially when we left the restaurant we thought we left behind a gift we gave my Dad ( a necklace) we phoned the restaurant after hours leaving a message. We ended up finding the necklace at home among other gifts. When I called the next morning to say we had located it- I was pleasantly surprised to hear the hostess answering the phone knew all about the necklace and said they searched the bungalow looking for it early morning and were awaiting to phone us back after they speak with our server from lastnight in hopes Michael my have placed it in a safe place. Incredible to know my message was listened to, acknowledged and action taken. Thank you inn at seventh rey- we will definitely be back!

The ambiance was breathtaking. A friend and I ordered burgers and some fresh pressed papaya and strawberry juice. Everything was lovely and they had a small gift shop in front.

We loved this place. It's like being in a fairy tale -- lovely outdoor setting, soft lights, cool bookshop next door, fantastic food, very good service. An absolute MUST for anyone visiting or living in the Los Angeles area.

Recently visited for lunch, while it had been a few years it’s not like what I remember it to be. The place seemed run down, service was extremely slow and the food left everyone in our group with a stomach ache. Should have held on to the old memories, apologies to anyone I recommended to visit this establishment over the past few years.

We had a spectacular meal here. The food was superb, service was top-notch, and the wine selection was excellent. All of that would make for a fantastic restaurant but the setting is wonderful. It's as if a restaurant was planted in a forest, with gorgeous settings and pretty lights. All in all a fantastic experience.

I went here in July for someone's wedding and it was blazing hot outside, so naturally, you need a drink and the only drink there was water! I don't mind water but the water I got was warm and it was a hot day. They had other drinks too but they were weird, and they didn't have any soda so that was a bust. Also, the chicken was kinda good.

GORGEOUS!!! Oh my, this place is an incredible experience! The outdoor patio setting literally feels like something out of a fairy tale! It's so calm, tranquil, and beautiful. Plant life everywhere, flowers, trees, and the sound of wind through the shrubbery. Wonderful! We took a lovely weekend drive down Topanga Canyon Blvd, and decided to stop here for some brunch, as we had heard good things about this place! We weren't disappointed! They have valet parking, but it's really cheap, and it wasn't very crowded when we went. We were promptly seated and had our order taken and brought out in no time at all! I ordered a "love potion" kombucha drink that was strong but very good, as well as a classic breakfast. My boyfriend ordered a yummy quiche dish! It all was so fresh and natural, I loved it! THE definition of farm to table! You could just taste that quality in everything - the potatoes, the vibrant greens, and the eggs! I was very impressed! The prices were a bit high, but the food was all wonderful, the service efficient and courteous, and the setting absolutely gorgeous, so I'll take it! I was thoroughly impressed and would love to return!!

Today was our third time, and this time was prove to myself that the food is not worth it at all. Usually, on Sunday they have a buffet, very few chose very bad service at the buffet area. I know the space is very cute and nice but forget about food.

I’ve loved this urban escape for decades. Nestled in an ancient oak forest, alongside a trickling stream, you won’t need mind-altering substances to witness the magic. A myriad of Buddha’s and candles illuminate your path down to the dining areas - creekside in the summer and fireside in the winter. The organic and unique fare isn’t everyone’s idea of a great meal but despite the steeper costs, I enjoy every morsel I’ve tasted. The 2,308 grain bread is worth the visit alone (when it’s fresh). With family, friends or romantic rendezvous, this paradise doesn’t fail. Allot time for the gift shop too, a concise, plentiful and fun collection of New Age and enlightening books, tokens, jewelry and kick knacks await. Also, a funtastic spot for Sunday/Mother’s Day brunches!

Visiting the Inn of the Seventh Ray was not something we planned but the location and the atmosphere, the service and the people make it not only a place to visit when nearby but a destination! The setting is an other-worldly one with twinkling lights and murano glass chandeliers overlooking a creek bed. The food is lovely- organic, grass-fed, well prepared and presented. Service was well paced and offered ample time for enjoyment. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough,

Sunday brunch was ok, good selection though it wasn't cheap ($41 for buffet) . The music really put us off... The worst I ever heard in a restaurant...I mean: 'Greensleeves' played on the panpipes, along with many fake medieval retakes - Ouch, really? Also thought the 'hey, we're cool' was a bit overdone too (specially considering their taste in music...) Summary: Ok if you're nearby, hungry, and happen to have a couple of earplugs in your pocket.

It's already been stated that this place has a very charming ambiance. Sort of brought to mind something out of a fairy tale book. Lots of outdoor seating for great weather days and a smallish indoor dining section with a very romantic fireplace. The food is quite fresh and very "California". As a tourist visiting this place on a friends suggestion, I was quite pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the drive to get to it. Topanga Canyon is definitely for the hippie in you.

I have been going here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. The creek trickling by and the twinkling lights outside give it a magical, mystical and romantic feel. Meet friends for dinner and had a lovely booth with heat lamps. The food was great especially loved the Mushroom Risotto. Brought a great bottle of wine $25 corkage was worth it.

After hiking Topanga Canyon we were 1/2 starved to get to the Inn. It has tables in all kinds of nooks and crannies, and even a dog table for dining with canine friends. The women's room was very clean. We were put in a little gazebo with one table for four of us. Very comfortable. Service was a bit slow, but there were two baby showers going on. Brunch buffet was set inside a small chapel and included salmon, crab legs and all kinds of food I couldn't eat on my diet! Everyone in the party enjoyed their food. It would get a 5 but for the service.

Anyone who knows me from my old homeland knows how much I love the Alte Mühle Höreth in Kobern Gondorf - this place is the American translation of that. Do I want to take my new love here for a first date? YES! Do I want to get married here? Absolutely! The atmosphere is 11 out of 10 - priceless. In terms of food, they aim to be more upscale - and they succeeded with 2 out of 4 dishes that my friends and I tried. Scallops and sea bass were great, sadly the risotto and cheese plate I had were just OK - the risotto tended to be on the downside. It was heavy on the truffle oil, and throughout the drive home, my wife and I felt like it was coming back up, unfortunately (and I only had 3-4 spoonfuls). The mashed potatoes were very good, but for twenty bucks (including tax and tip), that's to be expected. The restaurant itself is fantastic - and if the budget allows, it's suitable for meeting up with a group or even for business. It's just not as loud as typical LA restaurants. BUT: we hadn't seen our friends in a while and had a few things to discuss. The service was very charming (and I want to make a point here that they were super-sweet!) - but also, sorry, a bit rude, as every few minutes they would interrupt us mid-conversation: without even waiting a millisecond, they would interject into the ongoing conversation. I know from restaurants of this caliber that it's different: if the service staff wants something from me, they approach the table and let the current speaker finish their thought. We can clearly see there's someone who needs our attention. Once we've finished speaking, then they can ask, "Yes, please?" - and gladly. I wouldn't emphasize it so much if it were the charming new waiter. It was 3-4-5 people we dealt with, and without exception, and by all of them surely fifteen times, if not twenty times, we were interrupted last night - even to bring us the dessert menu after the appetizer (and that before they brought the entrees). We spent $500 for the four of us - and were rather restrained (no aperitifs, no bottle of wine, I had two appetizers and only one of us opted for the dessert - and found it the weakest dish of the night). $500 - that's a lot of money for most people. I would wish for the restaurant, as well as the people who saved up for it, to have a perfect experience - and not three out of five stars, which unfortunately I must give because there is no bread, large bottles of water being sold out, constant interruptions, and sometimes suboptimal food simply weren't good enough for more. What a pity. I really wanted to love this place. I really did.

We stopped in here and were amazed by the beautiful setting of the restaurant by the creek. The menu did not appeal to us, however-I think it could be made a little more mainstream, however, those that were dining there certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves.

My partner recommended this restaurant and my daughter and I drove up there today. We started out outside but came inside as it was a little chilly. They had a fire going and it was so warm and cozy inside. I had the shrimp & green papaya wrap with sweet potato fries cooked in coconut oil which were to die for. My daughter had an omelette but wished she'd have asked for sweet potato fries instead of fried potatoes - nothing wrong with the fried potatoes but the sweet potato fries were sooooo good. We were too full for a dessert but had a lovely chat with another couple who had also come in from the cold! The restaurant is in such a beautiful location and the food is amazing, with excellent service - I would highly recommend this little gem for a lunch or dinner.

While in Topanga Canyon we decided to stop by and have brunch. My food was good, and my date ordered the Pan Seared Salmon. She insisted that I try it and it was delicious! It was moist and tasty and didn't have the "fishy" taste that I associate with salmon. Add some of their french fries and you're good to go!

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. There is absolutely nothing like the ambience. Feels like you are escaping the city and transported to a magical, mystical land. The food is absolutely amazing, organic, locally sourced and delicious.

I won't rush back. Granted ... It was Mother's Day. The restaurant was jammed. We admit it was our fault in not realizing it was a "holiday" brunch buffet at an additional cost. We thought we could order ala carte. The brunch came with one glass of sickly sweet champagne. The food was horrid. The crab wasn't even thawed out. The buffet room where the food was layed out was messy. There was spilled food all over the table cloths. The people in charge of refreshing the buffet dishes and food couldn't keep up with the people. Any time I wanted a particular item, there was none there. It was just awful. On top of that, no one asked how we were doing, if we were happy, etc. Our waiter was haughty and condescending. When we finally requested our check, he asked us if we were vegetarians. I didn't know why he was asking this, but I basically said NO. I later found out the $72 dollar buffet was $5 less if you didn't eat any of the meat dishes. I don't know what meat dishes I ate other than the three pieces of frozen crab. Anyway, the whole thing reminded me of a very bad Las Vegas buffet. You know ... one of the cheap $9.95 buffets at a crappy hotel. Together, I don't think we ate more than $20 worth of bad food. We did have one very excellent glass of orange juice that I thought was included, but turned out to be an additional $12. That was the only food item that was worth the price. Our final tab was something like $170 (not including tip). Just awful. And, interestingly, the only people that asked our our meal was were the valet people--not the waiter, not the hostess. When I said it was just awful, he gave us our valet "fee" back which I thought was awfully nice. They also gave us a card that we are supposed to present next time for 20% off our meal. Though I think it's highly unlikely I'll ever go back. Sadly ... I've been wanting to eat here forever. We obviously picked the wrong day to go, but not sure I'll ever return.

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in L.A. I was happy to not only see they are thriving but still have their same great brunch. If you’ve never been, you are dining in the woods of Topanga Canyon. It’s very cool, very hippie-ish. The Topanga Canyon community is known for their Bohemian free spirit which includes talented artists and musicians. I just love it there. The brunch is a well thought out mix of healthy carnivore options as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices. We tried almost everything. Their salads are excellent, especially the kale salad and chicken raisin salad. We filled our plates with fresh waffles, chicken sausage, lox & bagels, roasted purple potatoes and a large assortment of delicious pastries (including vegan, gluten free). Everything was excellent and fresh. There was not one dish that was bland or over seasoned. Like Goldilocks said… it was just right! The service was also impeccable. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. If I could inject one comment, I think coffee and tea should be included in the price of brunch and not an extra charge.

Been coming here for...twenty years or so. And most of the time the place had good food and decent service. Today was the last time we've ever come. Ever. Been sitting here for hour and a half and guess what? No food. A burger and a salad doesn't take an hour to prepare and I don't care what anyone says - you can defrost a burger in that time and cook it. In the meantime no apologies, not even an acknowledgment of bad service. Once we complained about waiting here with empty glasses we heard a weak excuse they they are soooo busy. Not busier than before COVID. Tables around us are empty so clearly a mess in the kitchen. Too bad. This place is funky and has decent food in an nice al fresco setting, but today they let us down. Completely ruined what was going to be a nice family brunch. The manager Joe comped the only dish that did come out and mimosas but he too offered a weak excuse of "pandemic happens" which I'm sorry isn't a good one. If you can host a baby shower with 20+ people on the side patio, you can cook a burger and fries in 60 minutes or maybe even send a server to say...sorry, we're busy, we'll get it out soon. When you plan your Saturday around a family brunch and that goes sideways....the whole day just took a bad turn.

I attended my sister’s memorial here. The service was exceptional. The food excellent, the setting lovely. The servers friendly and efficient. EXCELLENT ALL AROUND!

I recently had dinner here on date night and the food was amazing, the atmosphere sooooo romantic, the service excellent.

We had dinner last night here. It was not good at all. Steak was raw and risotto undercooked! Waste of a good meal! Scenery was awesome!

We enjoyed a few nights in Topanga and wanted a nice meal after roughing it. We were seated relatively quickly. However, we were directed to the nearby store, where we were in the middle of shopping when the host let us know our table was ready and she was somewhat impatient for us to leave. We eventually found suitable outdoor seating (away from bright lights) and enjoyed the beautiful decor. We weren’t very hungry, so we had the potato leek soup, bread, and some mocktails—all of which were delightful. Our server was attentive, but rushed and anxious, which made our visit less relaxing. Overall, I’d definitely return! I understand that they could have been having a rough night.

Family dinner with 5 adults. Service was very friendly. The food selections were genuinely nice and mostly uniquely creative. Sea bass was terrific. Chicken was OK - the wings and thighs were fine but the breast was kind of dry. Nice spices and accompaniments. The extra charge for bread for the table was small, but seemed like nickel and diming. The bread WAS delicious. Kitchen seemed disorganized (2 orders of sea bass - one came 5 minutes before the second). We were early, so the restaurant was not full yet. TIP: They had a frog chirping in a fountain in the center of the room. That evening there was a small child whose parents let play in the fountain, dropping potted plants into it and searching for the frog. Staff did not object. It was kind of a distraction, so ask for a nice table not so on top of the fountain.

The cost when we arrived was double what their website said. For 6 holidays, NOT including Memorial Day, the website lists high prices ($47-125, hidden after the beverage menu). Otherwise they list lunches a la carte $12-19. On Monday Memorial Day they only had a $35 brunch when our group of 5 got there. The manager admitted this Monday price hike was not on their website, "It's on our facebook page. We've started doing that most holidays." I don't see it there, but in any case putting a big price increase only on a secondary page, which most people have no reason to go to, is not honest. They could easily have matched the website prices by offering us dishes a la carte; but they did not. This Monday brunch was far more limited than Sunday brunch. It had a good range of gluten-free items, but no vegan protein dishes (like nuts, lentils or soy).

I looooved this place! The food is delicious. Everything looks so pretty, it feels like you're attending a wedding. Their little store at the entrance is lovely, grrat selection of crystals and books. So recommend!!! I want more of their banana bread dessert! So good!

This is our second visit in six months and both times we had unacceptably bad service. On the first visit, they brought us our side dishes FIFTEEN MINUTES before our main courses, so of course they were ice cold when the main courses arrived. We demanded they redo the untouched side dishes, which they did, and apologized for the mistake. We figured that was a fluke. WRONG. Tonight, they brought us our HOT appetizers and individual plates, but didn't pass out our plates. They simply set the VERY HOT plate on the stack of plates and left it for us to deal with! Unacceptable. Later, they brought two of us our meals...without taking away the dirty plates from our appetizers...or bringing us new forks and knives. We placed our forks on our plates while we waited to eat until the others in our party were served. A few minutes later, the server arrived to say "oops, these aren't your meals," asked us to take our forks off the plates, and then served the now COLD meals to another, nearby table!! Meals that had sat in front of us for five minutes with our dirty forks on the plates...In this age of COVID!! Even though these were the SAME MEALS we had ordered! WTF?? That's just plain gross (I can't believe the other table accepted the meals. Were they INSANE?) When my meal did come, perhaps from another table, too, it was cold.

Both, my husband and I were a bit disappointed this time. We have come here often for special occasions and love the romantic setting. However, this time with left feeling slightly sick with an aftertaste of unpleasant Fat. We both didn’t like the side order Of mixed vegetables, Very mushy and lots of oil. I had pesto pasta with salmon, Which was far more oily then I am used to. My husband had miso glazed cod. While the fish was wonderfully cooked, also his dish was a bit too oily for him. We have written many good reviews about this place and intend to come back, hoping we like the food better next time.

What a lovely setting that is just slightly run down. Such high hopes and the menu spoke of high vibration cuisine. Excellent service despite the really sad hippie cuisine. A sad Caesar salad that had brown ends on the romaine lettuce, a lumpy potato leek soup. Heartburn sunflower pesto to overcooked rigatoni pasta that was fit for a baby or someone over 100 years old (colorful mush). I think our waitress gave up on us when we asked for the bill - if the deserts were anything like the main courses just come here for drinks. You want to forget the food because it’s really quite depressing.

This place is gorgeous. Nestled into the hills in Topanga Canyon. There is a babbling brook that goes by the dining area and at night you can hear frogs croak! Great menu that can please everyone, they have tons of vegetarian choices and also carnivore staples like steak. There is even a kooky new age book store on site. Great for browsing while you wait for your table. It's a real gem. Staff is super nice too. No attitude at all. We live in LA and bring guests here all the time. They also have a fantastic Sunday brunch.

We were a large group for Sunday brunch after attending a wedding elsewhere the night before. The umbrella tables with white table clothes and flower centerpieces made the area very festive. The buffet had a large selection of very tasty dishes. We totally enjoyed our experience here.

My friends and I had lunch here a few days ago and loved every minute of it! It’s such a scenic, little hideaway from busy streets and nonstop traffic. It definitely has an earthy vibe and plenty of dietary- restriction friendly options on the menu.

We really enjoyed our cozy table in the gazebo. Twinkling lights and real candles create a lovely place for a romantic dinner. We got a 6:30 reservation with short notice I was surprised. Short rib and scallop entrees were fantastic. Service was not attentive. Valet was really nice and observant. Valet $6.

The Inn of the Seventh of the 7th Ray is an old standby in Topanga, which has gotten more and more pricey over the years, although lunch prices aren't too bad. Although there is indoor seating, most of the seating is outside, except when we get occasional rain. It's wonderful to sit alongside the creek and sometime catch the coyotes watching you across the creek. They are our generally harmless neighbors in Topanga Cayong unless you are a small dog.

The restaurant is romantic, charming and nestled in the canyon. Everyone should experience it at least once. That said the service is incredibly slow (nice though) and the food is expensive and not great. I had the vegan risotto and I’m sorry to say, it was awful. I couldn’t eat it. My husband had the chicken and although it is a nice portion, he described it as average. After dinner, we went into the new age store where they sell books, crystals, cards, Buddha’s, charms. Enjoyed the ambiance, but will not go back for dinner. Perhaps brunch or breakfast would be better for me.

This is my second time coming here for brunch with girlfriends. The setting, when its green is beautiful. This is the first time we had the brunch buffet. It was totally worth the price. This is one of those places you must visit once in a lifetime. This time our waiter was just awesome. He was very attentive and quick.

We were there for a wedding in the winter. For some reason it was outdoors and being up in the mountains at night it was pretty cold. The heat lamps did nothing and kept getting knocked over by people & would go out & not work anymore. The setting was beautiful. Unfortunately the only place for the wedding guests to keep warm was inside a room that was for dancing . It was too crowded because we were all packed inside to keep warm & it wasn't big enough for all of us so some of us had to go sit outside in the cold. We had the fish & mushroom risotto dishes & they had no flavor. Pretty bland. We are not cake people but they only had cake for dessert & we felt like a sweet. So we had some & I must say the cake was pretty good. We probably won't be back.

We had Easter brunch here. The delicious varied and extensive faire was spectacular. Service and the management were exceptional. It was a busy holiday. Never felt crowded or rushed. Wonderful setting and ambiance.

The Inn of the Seventh Ray is such a magical place for a romantic dinner date. We had our 1 year anniversary dinner date here and the food and service were exceptional. We highly recommend starting off with the mushroom toast appetizer and then move on to the filet mignon dish or the chicken, both very tasty! The night couldn't have ended on a better note when we tried the banana pudding OMG no words just try it! The whole atmosphere was perfect for the occasion and are even thinking of coming back for Thanksgiving dinner!!!

I wanted to give this place an excellent review because it's so beautiful. But the several times I've been there have always left me wishing for more. The menu is limited to one meat dish (a fillet) 2 fish dishes (Salmon and Cod). The rest are vegetarian or pasta, the portions are small and things can get expensive..

Eating here is an adventure. It's in the mountains next to a brook and on a warm summer night you'll be entertained by thousands of twinkling lights and may even be serenaded by bullfrogs. They have a selection of Vegan and vegetarian dishes and you can also get a filet or some ribs. I haven't tried it but they advertise a Sunday brunch ($41 traditional, $37 vegetarian) I've tried several entrees there and they've been good but not great.

I'd had lunch here as well as a special Thanksgiving dinner here more than ten years ago, and was eager to return on this extended visit to L.A. The Inn of the Seventh Ray is a very special venue high up in Topanga Canyon, and in my view always worth a return visit -- especially when going for a long drive high up in the mountains. It's a destination in itself as well, totally relaxing and a great place to unwind at the outdoor tables surrounded by nature. This time we saw a huge owl in a nearby tree -- priceless! The menu has a number of interesting and unusual options; a huge wine list; and non-alcoholic cocktails with creative ingredients -- my old friend tried one of those while I settled on an organic beer. Even though most of my reviews are all about meat meat meat this time a pal and I ordered a phenomenal raw green soup followed by enormous kale-based salads. Both dishes were memorable. For dessert I settled on a great chocolate mousse served in a glass. Could not have been happier. Service was excellent and attentive.

My wife and I are wedding photographers. We had the chance of photographing a wedding here and we loved it. Intimate, timeless, magical tbh. Hoping we can come back soon for dinner!

The venue is pretty but the food is ok. Went for brunch expecting to be able to order al acarte as was shown on the website. After arriving and being forced to valet the car, we are told they were only doing the self-serve brunch at $50 a person. There were no servers, and when we finally got our check, we had been waiting for 15 minutes for anyone to walk by. The bookstore has book promoting the lie of vaccines cause autism and other propaganda. When the check came, we had to pay a 20% service fee! For what? It was a SELF SERVE BUFFET! also a black coffee for $6? What a joke.

A friend took me to this restaurant, even though it had been many years since she had been there. I was delighted with the setting in a canyon between the Pacific Coast and the San Fernando Valley. Most of the seating was outdoors, but available heat lamps would have accommodate cooler temperatures. There were twinkling lights all around and lush vegetation. The food was pricey (a meal for two with only one glass of wine was over $100). We ordered only an entree. I was a bit disappointed to find you had to pay extra for bread, extra for salad/soup. I would have preferred to pay a higher price for the meal and have those included. That being said, however, the food was incredibly good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a wonderful experience and really good food.

We sat outside on a cold night in January. Heaters worked well and they brought blankets around to use on your lap if you were cold. Food was very fresh and well presented. It was a nice dinner. Pricey, but a notable experience.

We went for a girl's dinner. The atmosphere was excellent. We agreed it would be a very romantic place fora date. The food and service were very good. Quiet, serene

This is the most romantic Resturant ever!! The ambience, food, lighting & service all are great. The food is delicious fresh organic from farm to table. If anyone looking for great food, service & romantic place, this is the place. We found this place few years ago & I should do this review many years age. This has been over due for long time, but being late better than never.

Located right off Topanga Canyon Road, the Inn is a real pleasure to visit. My in-laws held their daughter's wedding and reception there for 120 people and it seemed to satisfy one and all. The food was very good, but the service was a little lacking. Perhaps management could instill better responsiveness in the staff. However, it was a splendid venue for the wedding.

Really nice setting, with tables outside overlooking a creek. The food was really good. I had a celery avocado soup and my husband had a BLT with truffle French fries. Both were very good. It took a little while to get our check, or I would have given it 5 stars. I think our server had too many tables. They also have a quaint bookstore here with all kinds of "new age" books, candles, gifts. We bought a couple of books. We have eaten here in the past. We made a reservation through Yelp.

Love this gem of a location here in Topanga Canyon along the creek. The place is pretty magical and worthy of special occasions or even just for a consistently good meal with happy people serving. Majority of the seating is outdoor and very romantic among the uplighted trees, fountains and singing frogs. I’ve never been disappointed with the entrees I’ve ordered which has mostly been their fresh fish options. Special occasions (ie New Years) usually offers a set menu with vegetarians and pescatarians carefully cared for which is greatly appreciated. Be sure to leave time for their delicious deserts and a stroll through the zen gift shop adjacent to the valet station. The whole experience will put you in such an elevated and special mood. Enjoy!

We hadn't been here in years....that's a mistake as it's still quite good. Came for dinner last weekend and We are so coming back soon. Think it'll become our go-to since it's nearby. Still healthy. Still foodie. Still eclectic. Still Topanga. Set in the woods and maybe the coolest setting of any restaurant. The food ranges from veggies to short rib to gluten free. Something good-something really good for everyone-carnivores, omnivores & herbivores! Service was a little off but still well above-average. Yes, come on back to the inn of the 7th ray!

I can't say enough about this restaurant. The location and atmosphere are surreal, and the food is incredible. Outdoors you sit by beautiful trees and a creek, indoors (during chilly weather) there is a cozy fireplace. My favorite dishes are the vegetarian/vegan prix fixe meals with a wine pairing for each course.... expensive, but incredible. I live in the Midwest, but if I am anywhere on the West Coast, I make a special trip to Inn of the Seventh Ray. I feel like it feeds my spirit as well as my body!

second time i've eaten at the inn in many years since i'm from out of town but i tried the brunch with my girlfriend and her daughter. 5 min wait for a table, no resy, helps to be up in the canyon. the food was outstanding, we tried everything. service was great, really enjoyed our waitress. also, the valet was very helpful and kind to us. i really appreciate good service. i love the new age store next door and it is wonderful to be at a place away from masses of people in a city like l.a. years ago, i went for dinner with another friend and it was sunset and soooo romantic as the fairy lights started to twinkle, we both commented it would be great for a date, you really can't beat the ambiance day or night.

Location: Topanga Parking: valet Atmosphere: wondrous, magical, not to be missed Staff: nice Menu: well rounded Drinks: champaign with brunch Meal: buffet brunch Prices: pricy Visit Again: please, please pretty please Recommend To Friends: hell yes

I know, I know, restaurant options will be limited to places with outdoor seating...well Inn of the Seventh Ray took my breath away. So much so I went there twice in the same week. Everything is basically organic, but nothing basic about it. The creek is what made it magical. Weather was absolutely perfect. It’s a MUST!

Came here for dinner with friends and was not impressed. The outside dining in lush vegetation has in Southeast Asian feel which was a little bit different from most LA restaurants but the service was diabolically slow and inattentive. The food it was not fantastic either. The falafel and roasted vegetables I had for my main was very dry and cold, though I may have lost to the will to live by the time it arrived. I suspect this place is one of those local institutions which survives on its reputation and has stopped feeling the need to look after customers and provide a wonderful dining experience.

First of all, I wanted to find the romantic restaurant for my wife for surprise. We travelled from Seattle and trying to have enjoyable dinner with my wife. The place is nice. But the waiter was so rude. I don't want to mention his name. My wife asked asked wine selection and he was so reluctant to show us the wine choice. In a better restaurant, they will ask you to taste it, and choose the best one. He was looking us weird way, my wife got so afraid to ask another wine to taste. I was so ashamed. She wanted to choose the best wine so that she want to buy as a bottle. We got the only one option, which is Italy wine. By the way, we are professional wine taster, we travel all around the world for wine taste and don't insult us selling 20$ cheap wine for 60$. Besides angry waiter, the food was mediocre. I can find same food in CheeseCake Factory for 60$. Over priced but terrible service and mediocre food. We will never again visit this restaurant.
A Memorable Thanksgiving Dinner
On a Thanksgiving visit to L.A., our daughters recommended that we all go to Inn of the Seventh Ray for Thanksgiving dinner. What reservations I had about New Age-y overtones quickly dissipated. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and lighted, the staff was exceptionally attentive and responsive, and the food excellently prepared and presented. There are non-vegan and vegan options, so all palates can be satisfied.
