Good breakfast menu with Mexican breakfasts and American breakfasts. Nice lunch menu with reasonable prices.

The service was great, the food was really good, and the view on the water (especially around sunset) was absolutely fantastic. We had been looking for a restaurant near our hotel in Portland and we found this place. The view of boars on the water, around sunset was absolutely breathtaking

Unfortunately we couldn't sit on patio because of the rain. We had good halubut fish and chips. Not greasy and nice and crisp too. Beers on tap were good too.

This place is in a small harbor on Tomahawk Island just north of Portland. For the hour I was here, I felt like I was on a mini vacation in Florida or Hawaii. It’s right on the water, with boats floating by, ducks swimming around, Jimmy Buffet on the radio, and everyone has a Pina Colada. It’s a happy, relaxing place to be. Also, the food is decent and reasonably priced - a lot of places like this overprice due to the location but Island Cafe hasn’t. I would definitely recommend it for a relaxing meal/drinks on a sunny day!

This Summer when my Sister and BIL were renting a houseboat on thre Columbia for the Summer, we went to Island Cafe. WOW! What a find. This reminds me of being in Hawaii...without the flight there. Great food, very fun atmosphere while you watch the world go by.

This place is very busy and very well organized. Since they are busy they usually have a wait list but you can buy a drink while you wait. We like halibut and fish and always compare and I think Island Cafe has the best. I enjoyed the chicken wings and jumbo shrimp. The drinks are very good. The staff is very nice and friendly and efficient. The owner is on premises doing a fantastic job. The decor is just so darn cute too.

Based upon reviews I spent 45 minutes getting there last night only to find a sign posted saying they are closed for the season and will re-open again in April. As an out of town visitor, this information would have greatly helped!

Great atmosphere for couples and families, can access by boat. Great on a warm evening for food and cocktails.

Worth a stop for a beautiful hang out cafe with reasonably priced kids' meals, delicious fish and chips, and a yummy house wine! Heard the clam chowder and calamari are wonderful...open six months a year so check to be sure they are open, but if so, make sure to come for a casual, fun meal. Service is perfect!

Great food, fun ambience, relaxing atmosphere, nice people. We had just arrived in Portland and stopped here for an early lunch. There were enough non-meat choices on the menu and the fish was delicious.nWe highly recommend it.

can't reserve a table, often long waits but nice atmosphere on the water. Food is so-so, more of a fried food or burger place.

the drinks were good but lacked punch....however the halibut fish and chips are worth the wait and the view of passing boats make this place....service is good but need to work on faster and stronger drinks.

From work we go here about 11 to beat the crowd. And it will get busy fast. Great location view and you start off with a short walk from parking down the ramp and past some boats and the resturant Later in summer as water goes down the ramp will get steep so no heels. The service is fast and friendly and a good selection of fresh food. The produce I know is great as our company delivers here every day. Prices are good and enjoy.

Excellent location. Worth a stop, especially if a nice day. Lots of seating so did not have a long wait. Bar area to grab a drink if there is a wait. We had shrimp and halibut fish tacos and both were very good. Service was very friendly. Would definitely return. Not a huge menu, but what they had was very good

We stopped by this restaurant for dinner on our way into Portland. It is on an island and the restaurant is floating on a dock. There was a wait but they had seating for those who were waiting and it was a great place to enjoy the fresh air after a long drive. We enjoyed watching the geese and ducks swimming around the marina and the boats coming and going. Once we were seated our waitress was prompt and friendly. She answered our questions about menu items and did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed. Our family of four ordered a variety of items including a Hawaiian burger, fish and chips, fish tacos, and a lobster roll. All items were fresh and delicious. The portions were plentiful. We also took a couple slices of key lime pie to our hotel to eat later. The waitress had packaged everything in containers so the whipped cream and limes would not melt on the way. Definitely recommend!

The Island Cafe is a great place to spend a meal on the water. Food is good, people are friendly, view is a good change from the office. I would recommend this place all in all.

We took the advice of our hotel receptionist to have lunch here. It is a really nice place to go after a long day of driving. The food is great and since the entire restaurant is actually floating in the small marina on the Columbia River, the gentle rocking motion you feel now and then can be very relaxing (as long as you don't get motion sickness). The view is of the marina area and not so much of the River. The food was great. We saw quite a few people who chose this place to meet up with their friends, and one person was having a birthday celebration here so you can see that even the locals feel that this is a great place for a meal with friends.

This was our “end of the season’ visit and we will miss it in til spring. It’s fun sitting on the water and having drinks with friends. There is a good selection of food, both snacks and sandwiches.

A couple worker recommended this place as they had always wanted to go. Wow I can't thank them enough. The food was great the drinks were good. The prices were reasonable. The view is awesome. Sitting on the docks on the water as the boats go by was relaxing. It was a great late summer evening. Could not have asked for more.

Tried this 'hot spot' for the first time this weekend. The weather and setting were perfect. But the food didn't mirror the ambiance. It's very laid back, the music is fun 'beach style' though a tad loud, and sitting on their floating dock while dining is very relaxing. But - our food was "ok," their house salads nothing great with bland, 'canned' tasting dressings. Might return for beverage and/or dessert. Just sad their food doesn't mirror the view.

Sat outside on a beautiful sunny day . Food was excellent . Very busy place but the service was quite fast

I am a first time Portlander and I was told I had to visit this place. My family and I, kids and in laws, went on a Sunday evening for dinner. We were told the wait was 1 1/2 hrs, but we ended up only waiting about 20 min. The service as we were waiting at the bar and the service while we were eating were above average. I would say overall the food was good, but not great. Honestly, being in the Pacific Northwest, I was craving some grilled fish... None on the menu. I went for a shrimp stuffed avocado as an appetizer. It was a disappointment as all it was was small cocktail shrimp sitting on top of a half of an avocado. My main course was beer battered Halibut. I would have to say it was excellent. If I could change anything with the Halibut, there was an excessive amount of batter. It was good, but almost over battered. We didn't do dessert, but everyone was ordering the key lime pie. The ambiance and setting were unreal for the area. The weather was great which is good b/c it is pretty much all outside sitting. One other cool thing is you can drive your watercraft right up, tie off, and enjoy the cafe. If you haven't, I would say you definitely need to try it. More of an adult place. Great place for date or night out with friends.

Another awesome lunch, as usual. I love taking friends who have never been there, as they always love it and can't wait to go back with their families or friends. The food is excellent, as is the atmosphere. Add to that, the occasional military jet flying overhead, and the dogs. I got to feed dog treats to 4 dogs today. And a trip isn't complete without stopping at the little shop on the way out. All in all, I know I'm going to have a great experience, and enjoy a wonderful meal. Traci has really outdone herself, creating the perfect place for friends to gather for a great meal.

We love this place. We have taken all of our out of town guests there and they love it too. Good food, good service and a great atmosphere.

Very unique restaurant. When weather permits it is very fun. Great view and the food is great. Never had a bad meal.

On a floating dock, out in the Hayden Island Channel. Like being on a mini vacation. The fish selections are great. Get the Calamari appetizer for sure! Staff is perfect!!

what a great place...waited a little while in the hot sun on the day I went. Great food and ambiance...right on the river and it is a sight to behold... all of the kayakers, boaters, paddle boarders..would go back to this place in a new york minute...LOVE IT!!

We had to wait a short while for outside seating but it was wonderful to be so close to the water. Many choices from Mexican type dishes to your standard pub food. Quality of food and portion size were good.

Quaint little place. Kyak in and eats with drinks. Can boat in or wa ok in. End of the road on the island

My brother and sister in-law took us here recently while visiting the area...great find! Can't wait to get back. Food was great, atmosphere was perfect, service was great. We'll definitely be back soon.

We came here for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night expecting it to be crowded but were seated right away and right next to the water. Since Island Café is dog friendly, we of course brought our Bugsy. They brought him a bowl of water and we ordered him a burger patty. The bowl of water had ice cubes in it and they served the burger patty on a bed of lettuce, complete with a pickle wedge. He wasn't real excited about the lettuce or the pickle but loved the burger. We enjoyed his pickle. I had the island turkey sandwich and my wife had the grilled cheese. Both were wonderful! The iced tea is great too.

Had a relaxing happy hour right beside the water. Great drinks, great beer, waiter just the right amount of attentive. Understand this place has quite a following, and we can see why. Ambience was casual and islandy We didn't eat there, but the food plates on tables surrounding us looked good and were heaped. Great place to go with friends to just have fun.

Four of us had a nice lunch on the water at the docks at Hayden Island on the Columbia River in Portland. Our host said it was his longtime favorite hideaway, but apparently the secret is out. It opened at 11:00 Sunday morning and we had to wait a half hour to get a table when we arrived at 11:20. The complete bar serves fabulous bloody Mary's and other more tropical "umbrella" type drinks but without the umbrella. Don't miss this place on a sunny afternoon

Awesome restaurant right on the Columbia River. Nice atmosphere and good beer selection. Our waitress was Annie and she recommended the fish tacos, where were the best I've had. Overall, we enjoyed everything!

The Island Cafe is situated at the marina in the middle of the Columbia River. The open-air setting and Jimmy Buffett music were an excellent compliment to the tropical menu options. The owners have done a great job bringing a coastal feel to the Pacific Northwest. The food was reasonably priced and of above average flavor.

Try the island cafe punch...pineapple rum...coconut rum, and banana rum...awrsome and nice pub grub menu. The all outdoor seating. Perfect on a warm afternoon or evening.

Another meal in Portland, another queue to eat. For me, it was like being in London again. For our final evening in the city, we were being taken to the Island Café; a place that our friend had been talking about all weekend, seemingly revered by her like a well-worn, valuable piece of family jewellery. There is no denying that the Island Café is a draw. Situated on the banks of a narrow-ish branch of the Columbia River, on Hayden Island, just off Interstate 5 towards Vancouver, the only real drawback of this restaurant's location is getting snarled up in the northbound traffic leaving Portland, especially if you only have to travel ten minutes to get there. There’s a parking lot out front. Maybe the reason for the traffic was that half of the traffic on I-5 was indeed heading towards Island Café, such was the wait for a table when we arrived. We shrugged it off, got our names on the waitlist, grabbed some beers (and in my case, a fistful of taffy from the host desk) and parked ourselves on the water’s edge. What I like about the Island Café is that it is really rough around the edges, even by U.S. standards. It is basically two pontoons — covered with colourful umbrellas and tarpaulins — hanging over the side of the riverbank, playing host to plastic chairs and formica tables, full of delighted-looking patrons all being served by an open shack at one end of the establishment. Here you would also find the main bar; there’s also a smaller bar at the other end which generally only serves the folks waiting for a table. It’s all very cramped; you’re fighting for a place to seat, jostling with not only people but also dogs. Dogs, everywhere. The servers are handing out water bowls as much as drinks. I like the vibe; it’s friendly and chilled, the servers are joking around, everyone is laughing, smiling, basking in the orange light of the warm summer evening. The restaurant has a sort of dock running along its edge; meaning that if you are lucky enough to have a boat with with you, you can moor up and grab something to eat on your way along the river. An aggressive-looking powerboat — painted yellow with white leather seats — is already parked up. Though I feel at home here, I am getting anxious as the crowded nature of the tables hints to me that being seated anywhere not on the water’s edge (by the dock) would be well, not very pleasant. I assume you can specify a table by the water when you arrive, and be prepared to wait a while longer, but we didn’t, so I sipped my Mirror Pond Pale Ale and kept all my fingers crossed. We were called to our table about half and hour later; luckily we were sat on a great little table, by the water, by the speedboat, in a corner of the pontoon. Out waitress, dressed in short shorts and a little pink top, skipped over, cheerfully took our drinks order and left us with the menus. There isn't much on Island Café’s menu that is imaginative; everything offered I’ll wager you have seen before, in exactly the same guise. The selection of grills, salads, sandwiches and starters was so uninspiring my partner ordered a burger — and she bloody hates burgers. I had one too, and our friend ordered fish tacos. Despite the chaos of a full restaurant which seemingly turns around tables quicker than McDonald’s, the food is fast to arrive and is actually really, surprisingly good. My burger, topped with bacon and blue cheese (it was called a ‘Bacon Bleu Cheese Burger’, naturally) was probably one of the best I had on my three-week trip to the States. It tasted so fresh, was juicy and packed with toppings and bursting with flavour. My partner had one with green chillies and Swiss cheese (as she lives in Switzerland, naturally) and she was of similar opinion. Our friend was drooling over her fish tacos. We even took dessert, something we rarely do — sharing a salted caramel brownie sundae, which was so good it almost brought tears to my eyes. We hung around for a while longer, enjoying the setting sun and lively vibe. After a while, the owners of the yellow powerboat returned, making a huge song and dance about getting into it (as I would do if I owned such a thing), before starting the engine. As it spluttered into life, filling the air with the smell of gasoline, we settled the bill. For a few rounds of drinks, three main courses and a dessert to share, it came to about ninety dollars. Not bad at all for a super-relaxing evening on the water, our final experience in Portland. Island Café comes very well-recommended - just get there early or be prepared to wait/request for a table on the water.

Enjoyed the drinks and the food in an awesome outside venue. Watched boats coming in and out. Good variety of meal choices but better menu of drinks.

A few nights ago I met my brother, daughter and her husband at the Island Cafe. Three of us had halibut tacos. For about 12 bucks you get two large chunks of deep fried halibut with cabbage in soft tortillas and chips on the side with home made pico de gallo. My son in law got the halibut fish and chips which was a huge pile They were outstanding. This cafe is on the water on a small slew off the Columbia River. The menu is pretty extensive and prices very reasonable. Last time I was there I had a burger. Forget it. Get halibut.

Nice outdoor on the water place. I was there on a beautiful warm sunny day. We could have sat outside on the floating deck, but choose to sit inside. Doors,( really the walls) were opened up and it was almost like sitting outside. Nice selection of specialty drinks. Had a Island Hurricane, yum. Had the fried oysters for dinner, very tasty.

Another visit to this Island Cafe. It's beautiful and the location cannot be beat. Views of houseboats, sailboats and water activities are there to enjoy. Not only was our server excellent, she was also friendly. Orders at our table included several orders of coconut shrimp (delicious) and halibut fish'n chips (also delicious). However, we're spoiled with the pina colada dip from Red Lobster that goes along with their coconut shrimp and really didn't care for the spicy chile sauce with the shrimp. Also ordered were a couple mai-tais and an island cocktail. All three tasted like straight pineapple juice with a tad of grenadine for color. They were pretty bad. Not sure we'd order drinks in the future but we will definitely return for the ambiance.

Had the wonderful fish tacos, chips and salsa and a great view. Had great service and the dog was able to join us on the patio. Thanks again for a fun meal

The Island cafe rarely disappoints. And if it does, the biggest disappointment is having to wait for a table. That being said, you can always try and find a spot at the bar.

Summertime is the best at the Island Cafe. Sit at a table next to the water and enjoy a refreshing drink and watch the boats and paddleboards sail by. We love their shrimp salad and the fish and chips. Waiters are quick to serve you and always friendly. This place gets crowded on those sunny days so prepare for a wait, unless you arrive at opening. While waiting you can enjoy a beverage from the bar and soak up the sun. Wear shoes that will grip the ramp on your way down to the cafe too. And don't forget to grab a piece of salt water taffy on the way out.

This place looks amazing Staff were so helpful and friendly and knew about the products Will definitely be coming back

Great casual meal and location on Hayden Island in Portland. Good drinks and food. We were only looking for a light dinner and the lobster wrap was perfect! It was a little cool even before the sun set and when it did, it was very cool! Would love to go back in warm weather. Staff was friendly and attentive. Very pleasant experience and beautiful scenery.

We were looking for a mid afternoon place to grab a drink and maybe have an appetizer or two. Island Cafe was great for us since our hotel was on Hayden Island just north of Portland and before the bridge to Washington. Food was good. It was made better by the water view. They offer a nice Happy Hour. We split a salad which was loaded with shrimp. We were not hungry for dinner this night. And our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful. The whole experience made it a worthwhile choice.

It's a little off the beaten path.... but so much worth the effort. Our food was perfect and the marina setting is always such a special place. Our waitress was just awesome. She was so embarrassed when she dropped my credit card and it perfectly fell through a narrow space in the floor decking and into the Columbia River. I just laughed it off, however I was glad that I had another card. It was all good though and we'll be back for sure.

I live out of state now and every time I come back to visit this is a must stop! They are literally on the water on a floating dock. Dog friendly and their food is out of this world! My husband tried the Po boy and said it was one of the best ones he has every had. I did the Island Sliders with pulled pork. Perfect size for me! Just sad I didn’t have enough room for the key lime pie, I haven’t found a place better than them! Their Island Vice drink is always a must, especially on a hot day!

Our family always enjoys lunch here! We arrive around 10:30a/10:45a on a sunny day to make sure we get a seat by the water. The views and ambiance are incredible. We love just sitting and watching the boats go by. The food is always fresh and the burgers and halibut are great! The brownie dessert is melt in your mouth incredible. I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes as the walk down and back can be a little steep! Definitely no high heels! We will be back as many times as possible before the close for the Fall!

This was our very first trip to Portland - my husband and I were celebrating our 46th anniversary. We live on the Coast of NC where we can get fresh seafood at its best. So, when we read how awesome Island Cafe was, we decided to walk there from where we were staying (Red Lion Hotel). We planned our arrival around 11:30 am, shortly after they opened and got a fab table overlooking the river. Our server, Ceara, was super nice, friendly, provided menu advice - made us feel right at home. My husband and I started out with a cup of clam chowder - oh my goodness, it was delicious! Then we had the halibut which was so fresh and wonderful. Hard to get fresh-caught halibut in NC. Even though we weren't hungry by that point, we decided to try the key lime pie, at Ceara's suggestion. And trust me, we've had key lime pie many times in our travels, even Key Largo, but this was definitely one of the very best we've had. Yummy, yummy, yummy on all accounts. Delicious food, beautiful view and excellent service, a combo hard to beat. It was definitely worth the 30 minute walk to the restaurant from our hotel and worth the trip from NC. Highly recommend!!

The Island Cafe started out as a little known dockside cafe...we used to go down there and have lunch by the river and just kick back. There were no servers...you got your own food and bussed your own table. In the past several years the place has been 'discovered' and grown to such an extent that my wife and I no longer find it fun to go there. Plus, the food is not the same...it used to be hand-crafted...now it seems mass-produced.

This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants, it's only open seasonally, due to it being floating on the Columbia! I know within the last year they built a bar in the waiting area, which is wonderful because the wait time can be up to an hour or so sometimes! The staff is very friendly, it's an adorable set-up. They have a lot of different options, it's not just seafood, but tacos, burgers and such. They do have a happy hour! This place is a must go!

The setting is wonderful. On a floating dock on the Columbia River. We waited about a half hour for seating-no big deal. However, my first issue was that the only hard cider they had was a terrible pineapple so sweet I could hardly drink it. That was their only choice. I ordered a burger and it was terrible. Very small compared to other restaurants of this type. The bun was too big for the tiny burger (maybe a quarter lb.) Worst of all it was dry and the bun was also very dry and tasted really stale. My significant other had fish tacos, and they look pretty good. If you go, don't have a burger. There are too many great places out there for that!

You should always expect to wait when you eat here. You have along walk down a ramp to the water and if you don't walk well or are in a wheel chair, we don't suggest you try this place. You can always enjoy a drink while waiting. Service is good, food is good, views are excellent. We recommend this restaurant to everyone looking for a nice lunch or dinner place.

Beautiful tropical decor, it's like youre on island. Been here a few times, food is always on point. It's very hard to find a place where everything you eat is outstanding and this is one of the only few places I've found where you can get that. Great food, drinks and a stunning views. Only we bartender would be consistent with their drink presentation.

The food is pretty good, tropical drinks are excellent, and the location is fabulous. Right on the Columbia River, the deck moves with the waves, and kayakers paddle past. Really a fun place to go on a nice day.

Always a good place to go on a sunny day to have a great view of water. The bay shrimp salad is my favorite.

A delightful lunch experience on a beautiful day. We just had a short wait which was spent sipping cocktails on the deck in the sunshine. Had a yummy lunch with my husband and our college age daughter. Pleasant service. Good food. The restaurant gifted a long stem rose upon departure in acknowledgement of Mother's Day.

This spot is great for casual conversation. Very busy, but never left out. Always feel welcomed and the food it amazing.

One of my favorite places to go for great food and atmosphere. You're sitting right on the water, and if you're lucky you might get to experience a fighter jet or two flying overhead during your meal. It doesn't get any better than that. And did I mention dogs are allowed I always carry some doggy treats with me in case I encounter any, as well as taking along some duck food to feed the ducks and geese. I usually go here several times a summer, with friends, and am disappointed during the months they are closed.

Warned previously, we arrived 10 minutes before a 11:00 a.m. opening to find 20 people in line. In just a few minutes after opening, the cafe was filled. Our server arrived quickly, took our drink order and returned with drinks. Our guest then ordered a Starter dish - Lobster Salad Stuffed Avocado with Mango Salsa while we ordered one more of the same plus I ordered an Oyster Po' Boy with lettuce, tomato and jalapeno ranch dressing on a hoagie roll. Our meals arrived quickly; service overall was excellent. The lobster/avocado starter dishes were just perfect! Great taste and texture. The Oyster Po' Boy was sub-par. The tasty breaded oysters were too many and too big for a barely toasted "hot dog" roll, the jalapeno ranch dressing was nearly non-existent. I just ate the oysters. The view from the deck on the river was wonderful, with canoes, kayaks, power boats, stand-up boards going by. We enjoyed great weather and conversation! A little hard to find this restaurant. You must walk down a fairly long steel serrated ramp with hand rails. Some small movement on the deck because of current. Adequate parking, but you may have to walk a ways.

Had the lobster wrap, shrimp salad and key lime pie and each were delicious...portions are huge, theyd rather call it a lobster burrito. Staff was friendly, prices ok - place can get crowded on weekends. Parking and accesibility limited as the place is on a dock. Highly recommended.

Great place to relax and enjoy great food and adult beverages. We try to get there several time's a year. Halibut fish and chips, coconut shrimp and keylime pie were delicious. Great speciality drinks and many microbrews to enjoy also.

Watching the boats and board riders while we enjoyed really good food from a bar and grill. The servers were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us just taking it all in and relaxing with some music in the background with lunch.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch with our family to celebrate my husband's birthday. This was my first visit - highly recommended by several friends. We did have about a minute wait; however, they had adequate seating available. Our waitress was Angela - very friendly and attentive. While the service was a bit slow, we enjoyed the water activity. I enjoyed their Jumbo Coconut Shrimp which was served with French Fries and a tiny taste of coleslaw. Will look forward to returning when we can try their Happy Hour!

Venue to very nice for families or couples. I have gone with small children and adults only. The food is excellent, it is on the river, drinks and appetizers are good. Service is great and it is just a fun place to go if you want to be on the river.

We were lucky to enjoy the outside seating here on a sunny, warm afternoon. The halibut tacos were great. Also loved the salsa and crusted French fries!

Stopped here after kayaking and had a great meal. I had the BEST halibut taco I have ever had. They were thick, perfectly crunchy with a flavorful sauce. Watched the sun set over Mt. Hood. Drinks were good, but a bit weak. We arrived at 8:00 PM and only waited 10 minutes for a seat on the dock. Be aware of the wait on a nice evening. The waitress said that the longest wait that day was 2 hours.

These were probably the worse Oysters I have ever had, I do hope they were frozen prebreaded I would hope they couldn't have ruined a fresh Oyster that bad. If any kind of taste it would have been after taste' which was my lady friend's comment. Halibut fish and chips were excellent. The hostess and servers were excellent, and the ambience was also excellent. I would recommend going there, just don't get the Oysters.

Recently had dinner at the Island Cafe, better than ever! A Sunday evening, sunshine and blue skies so the cafe was very busy. We never mind the wait as there is plenty of seating and the summer atmosphere is perfect. Once seated, our server was delightful, the food excellent plus watching the various boats come and go always entertaining. Highly recommend lunch or dinner on the dock, you will not regret the experience!

We have been here twice recently. Everything about it is excellent. The decor and table settings look all fresh and new and the attention to detail is very noticeable. We usually get the halibut and chips and a couple drinks and it never disappoints. All the food being delivered to tables looks so good. It is fun to watch the boats go by and you can sit indoors or outdoors. The owners are on site and they are super people and do a fabulous job running a restaurant. Probably plan on wait to get a table but there is a nice area to wait and you can buy a drink while you wait.

Unique location on an island in the middle of the Columbia. Great atmosphere and good food. I had the coconut shrimp. My husband and daughter both had the rice bowls and really liked them.

Good food. Fast service. The best feel and location. They are super busy and you will often wait, but they have good service... And a gift shop while you wait.

My husband and I were looking for a new place to celebrate our anniversary, and a friend recommended Island Cafe. So glad we decided to come here because it felt like a restaurant you'd find on a tropical island getaway! The view is gorgeous, and the staff were very pleasant and attentive. We ordered the calamari with a chipotle aioli dipping sauce, the halibut fish and chips, and a seared ahi tuna burger on wheat bun. All cooked to perfection and so so tasty! There is definitely a wait but if you're sans kids (like we were for our date), you can snag a table at the bar with the same menu options. Highly recommend!! :)

We have dined here quite a few times in the last couple of months. It is usually busy and you might have to wait but it’s a good place to wait and watch the boats go by and you can order a drink and sit down where’s there is plenty of room. They give you a buzer and are very efficient at getting you seated. We can’t order anything but the fish & chips - it is so fresh and good. The parking is in a lot or on the street - free. They have indoor seating or a tables outside are under umbrella’s. The owners are usually there. The place runs like a fine tuned machine.

Open during the good weather months, this Hayden island dock side restaurant has a vacation vibe with umbrella tables, flowers, beachy music and a waiting list on weekends and summer evenings. Great food, full bar.

This is a fun place to have a meal right on the water..... And I really mean ON the water. We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday. Even at that time there was a wait. The hostess said an hour. They have an area to sit and wait and smart folks that they are they gave a bar at the waiting area to serve you as you wait and you can also order appetizers while you wait. My margherita was very good and we ordered fried calamari. Calamari was nice and crispy. We only waited about a half hour and were seated outside. Great view and almost the entire outside area is shaded. You can park your boat there at the dock as well and enjoy the restaurant. The fish and chips was halibut and it was delicious. The lobster roll was fantastic! It was a large serving and I took half of it home. Can't wait to go back for another one.

Portland lacks restaurants on the water and this is a great place with a good menu, fun drinks and bar and boat parking right. Across from a small section of house boats, this is a lively one. We went on a Saturday night and had an hour wait, but it was gorgeous out and they have a tiki bar and appetizers that are brought to you. We only wound up waiting 45 minutes (I'm always happy with under promise and over deliver). My daughter loved the virgin strawberry margarita and my husband said the clam chowder (on a 85 degree night) was top 10. Nice variety of fish tacos and other seafood items. Attentive service and the water was lovely, with lots of boaters. Fine place for a family or couples or group of girlfriends.

We took the entire family here, six of us to have dinner and drinks, on the recommendation of our oldest son, who is in college. The wait was an 35 minutes, but we sat in the waiting area, ordered appetizers and drinks for all, while we talked and watched the boats go past. We had burgers, seafood tacos and more drinks, service was excellent and friendly. It’s very casual and fun. We will go back! Maybe next time dock our boat and have dinner, which is welcomed!! Thank you!

If you go for lunch on a sunny Sunday, be prepared to wait. We had to wait over the estimated 45 minutes to be seated. Then there was more waiting for the food. The people in my group enjoyed the fish and chips. I enjoyed my burger and fries, but the bun was dry. The water views are entertaining and it is a good place for friends and family to eat, if you don't mind the wait.

Dining on the water while watching paddleboarders floating by is a wonderful relaxing way to spend a warm summer's eve. The food here is tasty but average fare and the menu varied. However, don't visit the Island Cafe for their mixology. The cocktails are disappointing at best. Even their iced tea is nasty.

This is a great little cafe on the Columbia! Food and service were excellent! We'll definitely be returning!

The parking is very limited and there is a very steep ramp that you have to walk down in order to get to the restaurant. Not good for elderly or handicapped people. There is a railing to hold onto, but once your down the ramp, there is nothing on the side of a wooden bridge that connects to the restaurant. You also have to be careful if you have small children, or they could fall overboard very easily. The hostess was very nice and the waitress pleasant. The food was average. We had the onion petals for an appetizer and they were good, not greasy. My friends had the lobster roll and I had the veggie roll with turkey. The lobster roll was packed with lobster salad but my veggie roll had little squares of turkey lunch meat, and not much of it, most of the wrap was lettuce. Would not order it again. The fries were OK and it you like curry seasoning than I guess the macaroni salad would be alright. I prefer the more traditional macaroni salad. I think the best part of the meal was the dessert. We had the key lime pie and it tasted like a lime aide.

The halibut tacos!! I like fish tacos and these were some of the bests. Floating restaurant on the river.

Ate there today for lunch, had to follow my brother to find it though! On the marina docks, one lady even canoed over from her boat! Great hamburgers and fries, will definitely go there again. It is off of Tomahawk Drive.

If you're looking for somewhere to dine or grab some drinks right on the water then look no further. The service was just fine but I was a bit underwhelmed by the Mango BBQ bowl. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their entrees so maybe it's just me. Either way we enjoyed our time their on the deck overlooking the beautiful Columbia River.

Located on the channel and only open in the good weather months, April - Oct. Indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is nicely covered if you want shade. There was a wait when we there for lunch but the have a good seating area to sit and you can get a drink from the bar and sit there. They are efficient and will seat you a.s.a.p. The owners seem to be there most of the time and everything runs great. I think everything is good but we can't get away from the fresh halibut fish and chips! Drink quality is great and service is excellent. Love the setting and wish we cold go more often.

I always bring friends visiting from out of town to experience the Island Cafe. The food and service are always excellent, and you can't beat the location. It is also dog friendly, which I love, and I bring dog treats for all the four-legged critters. My friend had the Shrimp Ceviche, which she said was excellent. She should know, as she is Hispanic, and says it is much better than the ceviche she makes. Everything on the menu is better than anything I make. Lol. I have been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed. And thank you Traci for the key lime pie. It was delicious.

Was recommended by our hotel front desk agent. It was close not out hotel. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. I had the clam chowder and a grilled cheese sandwhich. My wife had the calamari and my son had chip and salsa. The food was fresh and hot. The restaurant sits on a dock along the Columbia river.

Not sure how, but we managed to time our late lunch/early dinner visit perfectly between the crowds! The only downs for a visit is the parking and limits to where you wait to be called. We were seated immediately and were well into our meal before the crowd arrived. Our tastes covered fish tacos, fish dinner, pork rice bowl, and for me-seared Ahi burger. All very good and the Wasabi sauce made my burger a treat. Weather was perfect so it just added to the pleasant experience. As always, be careful with your elderly guests, especially those with balance issues. The ramp and “moving” floor can be an issue!

Good drinks not great, good food, simply an awesome setting. On a rain free day, it's an awesome place to meet. Can be way to busy...can be worth the wait. Bring your dog.

Surprised by the authenticity of the food. Enjoyed the quiet spot on the river. Service was friendly prices were very reasonable. Very small quaint place.

The Island Cafe is a really fun place for lunch, and I assume for dinner also! We live not far away and have been there three or four times in the last few years. We were there today, Aug 15, 2017, and the weather was great with ducks and geese (see picture) swimming up alongside the restaurant. There were even some boats who pulled up and had their meals also. The atmosphere is great and the location is very pretty. It’s located on an island in the middle of the Columbia River and is easy to get to from I-5. The turnoff from the street to the parking lot can be easily missed. Watch for a sign that says “Harbor Master” and that’s the turn. There is a small sign for Island Cafe but it doesn’t show real well. There’s a ramp from the parking area down to the restaurant. The food is really good! Check their online menu. I had a mango barbecue chicken bowl, and my wife the island shrimp salad. I also had an order of chips/salsa to go along with my margarita. All the food was very good, but the salsa was exceptional. It appeared to be homemade with all fresh cut ingredients. Very, very good. All-in-all it is a great place to eat. A great bar and the drinks were good. Try it, I think you’ll enjoy!

We really enjoyed our lunch here - really good food, reasonable prices and lots of fun watching boats, dragon boats and other water sports happening right in front of our table. When you drive down Tomahawk Island Drive, look for the Island Cafe signs to point you toward parking. then proceed down the hill and you'll see the restaurant down by the boat docks. It does mean you walk down the gangway to get to the restaurant so I would avoid high heels or slippery shoes of any kind. Really a beautiful Portland experience!

First time visit and very impressed. Lunch on a clear day right on the marina. Quick service. Fantastic food, and Sparkle our server very attentive and personable. Definitely will return. Throw in a view of Mt. Hood, and F-15 jets taking off from nearby PDX make for a wonderful experience.

I'm almost reluctant to share this place as it is my favorite hidden spot but its wildly popular for those that know it! You may have to wait awhile if trying to hit happy hour. Why? Because it's got the trifecta of great food, service and views being right on the water. Love love love their fish tacos! I have never heard anyone say anything bad about the food here. Extensive menu. Drinks are really good. Prices reasonable, but a little high and worth it. This is a seasonal location though, only slight con. Slight warning on access. It can be difficult get down and up from the restaurant in the summer as the docks go up and down with the water levels and at times the ramp can be very steep.

After a long drive, we found ourselves sitting on a floating dock rocking gently, with a beautiful marina view, soft breezes and strong drinks. Extremely relaxing. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient. We found it difficult to leave and hope to go back when we are again in the area.

This is place is great to grab a burger and watch the boaters take out their boats for a ride. Come early for a great seat, it does fill up quickly in the summertime.

A Saturday lunch & we just beat the lunch rush at 11:15-ish. Drinks were sizeable & potent. Match their prices. Appetizers generous. From teriyaki bowls to lobster wraps - all yummy. Fast service. A good experience. Will certainly find out way there again.

Cool spot on the water. Halibut was flakey and crispy. Fries excellent. The key lime pie was fantastic. Good selections of fruity cocktails. Mainly just go for the atmosphere. Service and prices were okay.

Went to Island Cafe on a nice day. Secured a table next to tie up dock. Fun to watch all the boat cruise by. Just about every kind including paddle boards. Service was prompt. Food was excellent. I had soft tacos (halibut), she had coconut shrimp. Enjoyable afternoon

I never knew about this restaurant until a friend from out of town asked me to meet them there. Wow!!! I absolutely the water and this restaurant was on the McCuddy's Marina. A beautiful view and right on the water. We viewed huge sailboats and houses right on the water. A tropical feel!!! There was a good selection of beers, wine and tropical drinks!! The food included many seafood dishes such as fish and chips, salmon, oysters, clam strips, salads, chowders, and sandwiches. I got a delicious lobster wrap. All the foods were accompanied by a side such as fries, coleslaw, macaroni salad, etc. Delicious and wonderful company!!

Amazing scenery and the food was unreal unfortunately the staff did not once come over and ask if we needed anything else or if we wanted dessert after we finished. We got up and left and not one member of staff said bye. Disappointing when we travelled 2 1/2 hours to visit here as heard really good things!

Just dined in on the water front with a girlfriend of mine - the view is WORTH IT! Go when there’s decent weather out & during off hours. Great virgin drinks, the IMPOSSIBLE burger has the taste and texture of real meat, and their gooey brownie ice cream dessert is RICH and ooey gooey!!! Great crispy fries, too :) Totally worth the price, after tip ($55 for two people for lunch)

This place is wonderful. We tried it for the first time late this summer and have been there a couple of times now. Friendly staff, great atmosphere (feels like you left the Pacific Northwest for a bit!) and the food is excellent. We went specifically for my husband to try their fried oysters and he LOVED them; I had fish and chips but had the largest order so my husband could try it too! Their onion petals are a great appetizer. The building itself is pretty small but they have a couple of spots for outdoor seating. It's all filled with umbrella tables. There are benches to sit on outside as well if you are having to wait for a spot. There is a little retail shop next to it that has very nice things if you get bored sitting! It is right on the water...boats pull right up to it...so if it's a bit chilly bring a coat. They will be closing for their short season soon (I believe April 14th - October 14th) so we may not get back until next time around. We'd highly recomment this place for a different kind of atmosphere and dining experience. There are some really tasty sounding picks on their menu that we will want to try so we'll get right on that next April!!! Be sure to wear sandals or a grip shoe that is comfy. If you don't boat up you will have to walk a 'steepish' ramp down to the restaurant.

Seven of us showed up mid-afternoon. The place was reasonably packed, but we were promptly seated for a delicious meal. The service was top-notch, even with COVID restraints. Absolutely nothing bad on the menu - all good! Even / especially the drinks.

I love this restaurant and atmosphere. Unfortunately I can no longer go here since I have become disabled and am not able to go down and up the ramp. So disappointed that there isn't any handicapped accessible. I thought it was required through ADA..

We arrived around sunset and enjoyed the live music while waiting for a table. The wait wasn’t long and the waitress was super friendly! Coconut shrimp was yummy and the key lime pie is a must! A fun place to sit by the water and watch the boats go out for the sunset! We will be back’

This place was a little hard to find but well worth it!! A very nice experience having dinner river-side. The service was absolutely phenomenal. It was raining earlier so they were a little shorthanded but they still were very accommodating! The food is fabulous! I highly recommend the fish and chips! And the drinks are great as well. Definitely check it out!

Food is really pretty good for burgers, fish and chips and beer. Full bar. But the ambiance is fantastic. Floating docks at the end of the marina make one feel like you've left the busy city. Favorite hang-out in the summer!

The floor of the restaurant deck bobbed softly as boats went by. The view is outstanding right next to the water. The service is very prompt and very friendly. Our server thanked us for spending part of our afternoon with her. Following a Mediterranean Diet, I ordered chicken skewers and the hummus plate which had pita bread points, cherry tomatoes, black olives, sliced cucumber, and hummus. My wife enjoyed halibut fish and chips that were great. Get here early. Or be prepared to wait a short while on a sunny day.

We were pretty excited to find a restaurant on the water before our flight out of Portland. The service was okay, the views were nice...but the food was sub-par ‘bar’ food. The Shrimp Poboy and coleslaw lacked flavor, would not recommend.

This is a special place that makes you feel you've left town even though you haven't. It opens at 11 am and you'll want to line up 20 minutes early if you want to sit along waters edge. The food offers classic burgers, but the seafood is where it's at. We've been several times and always had great food and wonderful service.

We have always gotten high quality everything here. Service-5 Food - 5 atmosphere - 5 Boats come up and moor and the people come in to eat. Sometimes there can be a wait but it is worth it. Best places for views are middle to outside seating Lots of flowers and covers from the sun. Very colorful! Can be hard to find. Careful as there is another cafe to the left when you get to the end of Tomahawk drive. It is nice also but not the same as Island Cafe/ It is on your right just after you pass Tomahawk community and a boat shop. There is a steep ramp down to the wharf for those with mobility issues. Ramp is very safe as it is cleated metal. There is a cute shop there also. We usually split as the meals are ample.

As a local I love coming here on a sunny day. The food is quite good, the atmosphere unbeatable as other reviews have noted. But , beware in the late summer the river flows low due to the dam letting put less water, so the steel ramp you must climb down is quite steep, and yes, you must climb back up, because even high tide is a foot or less, SO , be prepared; no high heels and bring a friend you can depend on , who doesn't drink too many yummy cocktails to get you back up that damn ramp!!! Tip, parking gets tight, go early for lunch or expect a wait up to one hour on a sunny day?

Great little spot that makes you feel as if you're at a restaurant/bar on a Caribbean island. Surrounded by boats and floating homes this is a cool place to hang out on the water. You Very good food (try the stuffed avocado appetizer) and great service(Kali was my awesome server with an attitude that was like a ray of sunshine)! Not a bad seat in the house! I will be back especially when the sun is out!

I Love Love Love the Island Cafe! I cant get enough of this place....always makes me feel like I'm away somewhere on vacation. The location is fantastic sitting on a floating dock on the Columbia River...and the ambiance incredible. Now add great food, drinks, and desserts to the mix along with a fun wait staff and you've got the best spot ever!

This is one of my favorite places in the summer time. You are right along the Columbia slew. So you get to see boat, kayaks, paddle boards, etc come by. There is usually a breeze to cool things off on a warm day. I have had the turkey sandwich and the Pork Teriyaki Bowl and both have been great. The food is very fresh and the portions are good. The staff has always been very helpful and friendly. They have a small, but good selection of beers. I will keep coming back here.

Nice out-of-the-way floating eatery with a great sunset view. Took the recommendation for halibut fish tacos and they were excellent! This is the model for the perfect fish taco. Very informal and comfortable place, with a roll of paper towels at every table.

We’ve gone to Island Cafe and everytime has been wonderful! Great food, service and right on the river🙂

What a delightful cafe to eat during the summer months. Sitting right on the water makes you feel like you are on vacation. The service is top notch and the food is always delicious and nice big portions. They make great bar drinks too. The fish or shrimp tacos are my favorite, but the salads are fantastic too.

We just had drinks here...beers were reasonably priced and there were several available on tap...but the seating on the floating deck is fantastic especially on a day with good weather...service was friendly

Go on a nice day for the best experience, but be prepared to wait for a table outside. Enjoy close-up river views of boats and birds. Since the cafe is on a dock, you will even slightly feel the wake after a larger boat passes by. The staff are helpful, efficient and friendly. A truly unique dining opportunity, even for Portland with its many eclectic restaurants. Fish tacos are a great choice, or the shrimp & avocado salad. Frozen Island Vice drink is a real treat in its no alcohol option.

We got a spread of food and all of it was AMAZING. And the view was the cherry to top it off. Next time in town a definite must.

Had a long day driving and needed a break. Went to Island Cafe and got the break I was looking for. I had a delicious seared tuna on a bed of lettuce. Sat next to the water and watched boats and ducks go by. Super relaxing. Great atmosphere. Good food.

Expect a wait here. This is one very popular place. After you park there is a short walk down a ramp to the marina area. Then out to the end where you will find this little gem of a restaurant. Our wait was going to be 45 minutes so we went to the outside bar and ordered drinks and talked to pass the time. Our seating was excellent with a beautiful view of the Columbia River. Service was OK. I can't say it was great because there were a couple things he didn't get right on the orders but not a big problem. I ordered fish and chips and it was well prepared and presentation was good. Overall a very good meal with great friends in a very fun and relaxed atmosphere.

I am so glad my husband suggested this restaurant. Great views, drinks and food. Be prepared for a wait - but is is worth it. We chose first available seating and only waited about 15-20 minutes (longer wait for outside seating). The staff was very friendly and attentive and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely go back

I’ve been here several times with friends, family, and by myself on several occasions. I always leave here with a good feeling... and a good buzz. This time I didn’t take pictures of the margaritas I had because I was too busy enjoying them. However, the avocado shrimp dish was the perfect match to my drinks, and the view of the floating homes leashed with torpid sailboats from where I sat.

This was just gonna be a coffee run for us but we had a snack too. Not expecting anything, we struggled to find it at first but a sandwich board caught my eye so we parked on the street and walked through the car park and down a boat ramp to the cafe. Well what a pleasant surprise. This place is as cute as a button!!! You'd expect this at the beach, floating pontoons covered with umbrellas and outdoor furniture. Great waiting area with built on benches and an outdoor bar! The indoor bar and dining is really cute too. This place would be great for after work drinks any night of the week! The atmosphere here is great and for that reason alone it's worth coming to. Then there was the food and the service. Sure it was busy, very busy and we gladly waited but it took a bit of a wait for our drink order to be taken. No espresso so only drip coffee, first disappointment. No spoon came with the coffee to stir sweetener or creamer. Erg! We ordered two simple starters, chicken skewers and onion petals. Well they tasted great! But no worth the 25 minute wait for them to arrive especially when the table next to us ordered after us and got main courses before our little starters. Drink refills were good but It was about another 20 minutes after we finished before the waitress returned so we could ask for the bill, and only after I called her over! The menu is akin to a diner but looks pretty good from the plates being delivered around us.... the fish taco looked to be a winner but we will see if we go back. The frozen cocktails look pretty tempting too!!!! The service needs tightening up for sure to really make this place a really worth while place to go, it's just too casual.... but if they do functions it would be totally awesome. I would be having a party here for sure. It's super cute and cool!! Look if you're ok with waiting this place is worth going to just kick back and chill because it's does make you feel like you're at the beach and not near the city!

This was my third visit to Island Cafe and it has become a favorite place to go during the summer. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and had to wait about 30 minutes for our table, but we didn't mind. There's plenty of seating for waiting and they have opened a tiki bar in the waiting are so you can enjoy a beverage while you wait. We had the Albacore Fish Tacos, the Shrimp Stuffed Avacado with Mango Salsa and the Chicken Mango Rice Bowl, plus the 1/2 pound of shrimp as an appetizer. Everything was great. The sauce on the rice bowl is a little heavy for my taste but when you mix it up good it works. The wait staff is wonderful and very friendly and helpful. The views of the river and all the boats is fantastic! I heard several people say they felt like they were in a tropical location. So much fun. It is also dog friendly and there were several dogs soaking up the atmosphere with their people. I highly recommend this place if you love a floating restaurant. The menu has many salads, sandwiches and burgers, plus fish & chips, coconut shrimp and lobster rolls.

We love coming here, its so relaxing to be on a floating deck. It's dog friendly and just so peaceful watching the boats and paddle boards go by. At our most recent visit we had Halibut Fish & Chips and the pulled pork sandwich, it was all great. The fried calamari on the appetizer menu was also very good and cooked perfectly so that it wasn't chewy. This has become a pretty well known spot so you have to be prepared to wait on a weekend. We waited about 20 - 25 minutes, but you can order a drink and there's comfortable seating while you wait. So as long as you're not in a hurry it's fine.

What is not to love about the Island Cafe?!! Amazing food friendly top notch service outdoor dining at its finest. As a nearby hotel manager we recommend this location to all our guests as a must visit before you leave the area. Enjoy a Teriyaki Chicken bowl my favorite or the fish tacos which everyone raves about. We hope to see you all soon Island Cafe, we love your food and recommend a visit to all our guests. One recommendation always wear low sensible shoes for walking on uneven surfaces as the access to the restaurant is down a steep ramp that is not heel friendly at all.

On the river, beautiful views, great folks, decent food. The ambiance is the scene stealer. Foid, so so. But great service. Wonderful on a summer day. Good bar, fun outdoor seating, and in the pier.

A neighbor told us this was one of her favorite casual eateries. Once we found it, we can understand why. Great location on river, perfect summer day, table service excellent, delicious fish tacos and fish and chips. Will certainly return!

Good food, nice deck on the river but service is ALWAYS slow. Tie your boat to their dock and sit at a table 10-20 ft away.

I like taking friends here because food is great, service friendli, and being on the water just makes it to "must" do again and again.

Our first visit after just arriving in Portland. Weather was beautiful for dining on the water. Arrived about 5:15 on a Tuesday evening and were seated at a waterfront table within 5 minutes. Service was excellent. We both had the halibut fish and chips. Fish was lighty breaded and the tartar sauce was amazing. Fries were a bit overdone but still crispy. Great scenery with the passing boat traffic and seeing all the floating houses nearby. Highly recommended for that casual lunch or dinner.

This is my first time going to the Island Cafe. It makes you feel like you're on vacation. The open patio is on the Columbia River, and on a Sunny day w/ a little breeze it is PERFECT!! There is a small indoor seating area as well, if the weather isn't as nice. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious -the Chicken wings were my favorite. I would definitely go again.

If you like to relax in an outdoor floating venue, being waited by the most laid back friendly staff, enjoying water views, listening to Jimmy Buffett music, eating very good food, drinking your favorite adult beverage, and at reasonable prices. You' ll want to try the Island Cafe. It is unique in the area. But please don't go on a day i am going because it's already popular enough.

Amazing food, amazing view, amazing service all around amazing! We loved it here! We has the soft tacos and key lime pie and it was absolutely delicious!

A floating restaurant at the end of a dock! Up close to the river action, the ducks and kayaks! The wait can be long for a table when the weather is good. Food is good and they put through a volume of food from that tiny kitchen.

Thanks to a friend's recommendation we ventured out of the city and were pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the ambience was lovely. Really nice way to escape the city

We stopped by this restaurant the last night of our business trip. It is definitely a hidden gem. The food was delicious and the drinks are great. I had a "pain killer" and an "island kiss" both were tasty. The server was nice and chatted with us for bit. The view is spectacular, especially at sunset, It is one of those sunsets that make you appreciate life and you are happy to be alive to see it. Definitely a great place to eat and have a few drinks

Great location on the water and fun atmosphere. Staff was helpful and fun to chat with at the bar… they were out of mint so I couldn’t try the Mojito, Rum Punch was a decent choice. Loved the clam chowder and Fish and Chips… if you like casual settings, island themes and seafood, give it a try!

We ate lunch here on a really hot day! The drinks were good and it had a fun atmosphere! I would recommend the fish tacos!!!

My husband and I were excited to dine at the Island Cafe to enjoy the fabulous views. Alas, there is a sign in the parking lot that stated "Closed for the Season"! So sad! 😩 We're from Texas and would love some friendly advise where to eat out in this fabulous city!

Wife and I had dinner - Soft Tacos and Mango Chicken Bowl. Both were very good. This is a neat spot right on the water. I'd like to return on a warmer day and later in the evening - I imagine it's a hoppin' place.

Sure looked good on the menu, but all that showed up was a small piece of steamed chicken breast, some gooey rice and veggies that were both overcooked and undercooked at the same time. That and the lower GI problems that showed up about 20 minutes after we left. Not a good experience. On the plus side, a nice location and a very efficient and friendly waitress. My partner said her pulled pork bowl was ok. But it didn't compensate for my bad order.

This place has got it all - it's kind of like eating in Cabo San Lucas! A beautiful restaurant that is primarily open air with out door seating, although plenty of shade is provided with umbrellas. You get a gorgeous view of the water. The staff is great (quick, friendly, food always arrives much quicker than I think it would). The food is fantastic also, and the prices are great. I would highly recommend to this restaurant to anyone, especially people who love the "outdoor eating on the water" feel of many touristy restaurants in Mexico.

On a nice Summer day, we really enjoy eating outside and especially if their is a view of water. Located at McCuddy's marina, it is a bit of a walk down to the restaurant. It would be difficult for someone who has difficulty walking to go down the steep boat ramp. Once there, they have a system to alert you when your table is ready. You can go to the nice gift shop to look around while you wait. We have gone two times now, and we have not been disappointed in any of our choices. I had the coconut shrimp and the the halibut fish and chips. My wife had a shrimp salad and we have never seen so much shrimp on a salad. The views are fun, because you have kayakers, paddle boarders, and boats going right by the restaurant. You can even tie up on the dock right outside. Quite a lot of parking above, but it can be pretty tight.

Ok I almost hate to tell you about this place because you will want to go. It's hard to find, you will most likely have to wait but it is a slice of heaven once you get there. You will feel like you are on vacation. Oh ya... The food is good too. I love the Columbia burger.

This was a great restaurant with a very fun vibe. We had to wait almost an hour to be seated because they don't take reservations but we sat on the pier with drinks from the bar and the time went very quickly. The food was great. I order fish tacos and they were loaded with the best fish I have ever had. The only negative was that to get to this restaurant you have to walk down a ramp that is very steep. Some of our party couldn't do it and they weren't able to join us for lunch. The view from the pier is also great. It reminded me of a Caribbean vibe.

The table wait was not long, but once we were seated it took 20 minutes to flag down the wsitstaff. I was embarrased as I had highp-rofile company from out of town. Sal Pare all the way next time!

Our friends introduced us to Island Café for a sunset dinner on our first visit to the area. They convinced me to try a Burger and after looking around at other diners eating Burgers, I went for it! Dining on the river, I was thinking seafood, but the Burger was excellent. The ladies ordered the fish tacos and every bite was delicious. Fresh ingredients and great service was the highlight at Island Café. Not to mention the fantastic sunset on the Columbian river.

My sister and I stopped in for much needed food after my very long flights from Florida. I guess I just needed a little bit of home, so we grabbed lunch and it was very good. Her salad was piled high with shrimp and my sandwich was cooked perfectly. The cocktails were delicious! As a part time mermaid, I highly recommend the Mermaid Water...yum! A hidden gem in the marina and a must if you are looking for something a little different, a little sunny, with a lot of Island Vibes. Be sure to check out the very cute retail store next door called the Happy Mermaid. A lot of really cute things to be found

A great floating Cafe in the Columbia River. On a sunny summer day you will find pleasure boats pulling up for takeout or a table. Great views of the boat, duck, and geese traffic on the river. They have mostly outside covered tables with some inside in the bar. They do not take reservations so be prepared for a wait if you come at peak times on a nice day. Still it's a nice place to be waiting literary on the river. The menu is very seafood focused with shrimp cavechi, calamari, and beer battered Alaskan halibut fish and chips. Burgers and wraps and chicken sandwich and strips. All I had were very good. The bar has a range of "island" style drinks and a full bar with draft beer. Overall a great spot on a nice day

A friend suggested we might like Island Cafe - we DID!! Friends & family had lunch on a beautiful day on the water. All four lunches were excellent. Would definitely go back should the opportunity arise. Probably would not have found this amazing place without the suggestion from my friend. GPS got us there. Island Cafe is off the beaten path and to search it out - you will not regret trying this place!

Great food at this on the water cafe, beautiful views, lots of good selections, food is prepared exactly how you want it! A few small specialty shops on the dock leading to the cafe. Service and waitstaff both impressive! Shrimp and avocado starter, pork bowl, turkey sandwich, popcorn shrimp, cheese quesadilla were all wonderful with great presentations. A bit pricey but it's on the water!

It's so good that I don't want you to go there and make it even harder for me to get a table. It's an open air-right on the water floating restaurant with baby ducks in the spring nagging guests for french fries, a variety of small and large watercraft are constantly coming and going and the sunset on the water with dinner is memorable. When you go to the Island Cafe, you are on Island time and feel like you are on vacation, whether you are or not. Locals hate that it is so popular that they have to sit at the bar until a table with a view is available. No worries.

Docked the boat and had a very nice meal. My fried oysters were the best I've had in a long time. Really fun atmosphere!

We were thrilled to find this little open-air gem while paddle boarding on the Columbia River. Located just a block upstream from Aldercreek Kayak/Paddle Board rentals, it is the perfect location to grab a drink or meal. Island Café is located right at the end of a dock, so you have a great view of all the river activity. On a sunny summer Sunday, we had a 45 minute wait at 1:30 p.m., but we were able to get a margarita and wait in the fairly large waiting area. There is also a cute "gift shop" next door that would keep small children content with the wait. Once seated, the service was extremely fast and friendly. I ended up with a Chicken Caesar, and my friends had Mango Chicken/Vegetable bowls with choice of brown or white rice. All well prepared and hit the spot. I will note that the walk down from the parking area to the dock is a fairly steep ramp and not sure it would be accessible for someone with mobility issues.

Clearly, it's all about the waterfront location! We had tacos, salads, and sandwiches. Of the 8 folks eating, we got 1-excellent, 1-yuck, and the rest ok, but nothing special. Our server Joe was outstanding! The focus seems to be about being "seen", typical of many boat/marina communities. Lots of folks in bathing suits, so if you sit closest to the water be prepared for lots of "butt cracks", which obviously was a style choice not an accident! Very crowded during our visit, parking is a joke but apparently worth it to many folks. Note: Be prepared to assist any elderly people in your party or anyone with balance/stability issues. Ramp can be VERY steep! Does not appear to accommodate wheelchairs! Very casual dining, plastic patio chairs are uncomfortable. Would return again for drinks and people watching, but not dining!

We are here in Portland every Monday and I have been wanting to try this place. Finally did today. To sum it up FABULOUS! Calamari was tender inside, crispy outside. Ahi tuna tacos were perfect, coconut shrimp was good (dipping sauce was good but Red Lobster dipping sauce is my favorite). Wish they sold the mango salsa by the quart, it's that good. Keylime pie is excellent. We will definitely be back.
Mental Floss with food!
My Hubs and I have been going to this place for years and it NEVER disappoints! Hubs is a total Carnivore and I am Vegan, so it is an incredible dinning experience when we can both be completely satiated when going out to eat. Besides a great menu, the outdoor subtropical ambiance is nothing short of awesome! There are covered areas incase the weather wants to get a little testy, heaters and wind brakes. If its hot....up go the huge garage style doors, tropical ceiling fans and misters to keep you in your happy place. If you’re a Boater, never fear! This place is conveniently located right on the Columbia River, complete with side tie’s so you can go from your yacht and step off on the dock and merely steps to a thatched umbrella covered table! Did I mention....It’s a FLOATING Restaurant, Kid friendly and Dog friendly????? How cool is this place? Well, you’ll have to visit it to see! The Servers are always amazing and smiling (wouldn’t you be if this place was your office?) A full bar with some of the best boat drinks and on occasion, they have live music by some of the best Tropical-Rock guys in the business! Oh yeah, the Sunsets are spectacular! We never miss going here when we are in town. Hubs and I call it our second home. Sean & Traci are the Ownwer’s. They’re hard to spot due to their humble and unpretentious demeanor, but they are always there, making sure that their place runs as smooth as glass. The burger in this picture is actually a Vegan burger, one of their newest additions to the menu, called the “Impossible Burger” and it was amazing! Five stars all the way! A little hard to find at first, but totally worth it. Just down the plank from McCuddy’s Marina off Tomahawk Dr. on Hayden Island. Floating on the Columbia River, Portland,OR.
