This is a Great old school steak house in the Marina district. dark wood, classic service, and perfectly prepared steak.

Delicious steak au poivre with creamy potatoes and spinach. Helpful service, very friendly. Nice place in marina. Very old interior with specific decorations.

We had very good steaks, salad and dessert at this traditional steakhouse. Prompt service was also appreciated. The only negative was an extremely loud, drunken customer in the next booth!

Just got this deal online and brought my hungry boyfriend. The tall waiter knows his thing. Forgot his name, but you will know. Hahaha!

I've been here 4 times now. It's worth the air fare from the UK to get another blackened fillet with creamed spinach. The beer, service and food are all wonderful. It's not the cheapest meal you'll ever have but it will be the best. Izzys, without doubt, have the best steaks in SF. Love it!

We were staying in the hotel next to it and popped in for a meal I had the pork chop with garlic whipped mash The chop was lovely and juicy and the garlic mash was the best potatoes I have ever eaten would highly recommend probably best to book before hand also the ribs are amazing and huge portions

Great restaurant I ordered the hamburger and my accompanying meat, very good meat, garlic bread and very good butter, great attention, quiet restaurant, highly recommended!!

The strakes and sides were excellent and nicely cooked. The Sonoma valley wine was amazing 85% cabsav and 15% merlot. The desert menu is great! It was a bit loud and noisy but surely we will be back! Thank you!

Not a great experience here. Menu listed whole flounder. We weren't served this and received no explanation at all when we queried the fact that we were served a fillet that clearly wasn't flounder. Steaks that were ordered weren't great. The place where we were seated , a booth, needed a good clean & the myriad sauce, mayonnaise bottles on the shelf at the end of the booth, also needed cleaning & refrigeration!

We were recommended Izzy's by some locals after we couldn't get a reservation at House of Prime Rib or Harris'. Boo to those places - Izzy's was amazing! Mouthwatering steaks and delicious sides. Great service too! Worth travelling a bit further for.

The food and service was outstanding. We had walked all day and we were too tired to enjoy this dinner. Good selection.

The best booth I've ever sat in - anywhere! It's like having a private room. The bench is longer than the table - ingenious. There are coat hooks. And a dozen sauces are on a shelf above the table. Filet and blackened filet were great. Founder was super. Prime rib lacked flavor. Izzy potatoes were tasty. Great waiter and water glasses were consistently filled.

On our last night in town, we decided to give Izzy's a try, and was disappointed that this was our last meal in San Francisco. We ordered food to go: Braised lamb with creamed spinach and fries - the fries and spinach were good, the lamb was perfect texture-wise but was bland; Apple chutney pork chop with steamed broccoli and baked sweet potato - pork chop was tender and flavourful but the broccoli and s. potato were exactly as described, not seasoned at all; and Cajun fried oysters - we are still looking for the Cajun flavour. Service was prompt and pleasant though and wait time was exactly as we were told. Unfortunately, they forgot cutlery, but luckily we had a fork in our hotel room, which we shared.

we were looking for a place to have a steak and consulted Tripadvisor. The steak is great but way to expensive for a steak and fries. Overpriced.

This place has been here for many years, and has an old-school charm with a locals-eat-here-too feel. Reasonably priced steaks with a choice of some interesting sauces and sides.

GREAT STEAKS, simple unpretentious service, GREAT STEAKS, slightly old musty smell when you first enter the place (you don't notice it after 10 minutes), GREAT STEAKS, really nice home cooked sides, and did I mention ? GREAT STEAKS. It's not a cheap place, but I do feel the quality justified the price, which was lower than those high end steakhouse chains. I'd go back again tonight except I'm now 4,500 miles away !

Izzy's service is laid back but fantastic! No Pretension, just fun. The steaks are decent and they made every effort to make the first part if my daughters 21st birthday a good time.

Great steaks, decent ale, a lot of character and friendly staff - what's no to like? The key lime pie was sublime.

Food was ok but they charged for more expensive steak than I've ordered. The kind of unpleasant surprise at the end of evening. Be warned.

The restaurant is excellent and has a nice variety of food. It is not downtown and I took a bus to it and that was easy also. I would definitely like to return for a future visit.

We found a Groupon for Izzy's and thought we'd give it a try despite some of the reviews we had read about the service. We were so glad we did! We made reservations a few days ahead just in case, but probably could have gone without one even on a Saturday night. The hostess was friendly, the staff was friendly; our waitress was a joy. Very helpful and knowledgeable. We had a prix fixe dinner groupon for one shared appetizer (they split our salad on 2 plates and was more than enough) I had the 14 oz Prime Rib which was huge, thick and cooked perfectly to medium rare and was fantastic. My daughter had the Filet Medallions au Poivre, which were also fantastic. The creamed spinach had great reviews, and was fresh and very tasty. The Izzy's potatoes are rich and creamy and wonderful as well. We were happily stuffed halfway through the meal and had to take our dessert home. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

7 of us on vacation. A friend suggested this place. Reviews weren't that great. We Loved it. Fun, friendly, efficient staff. Bone in Ribeye succulent and flavorful, creamed spinach totally awesome and then even more awesomeness the house potatoes. I must say the Bone in Ribeye was more tender and flavorful than my Filet Mignon. The mango salmon was delightful as well. Great place. And if your lucky enough to get Anna as your bartender at the bar, then you have totally won. So kind, adorable and attentive. All seven of us enjoyed it. And plenty of leftovers. Price was incredibly reasonable for what you get. Make reservations as it gets busy. So worth it.

After a nightmarish experience at the Fishermans Warf, my partner led us to Izzy's for the best meal we had on our trip!! Great Service, Good Very Tasty Food - Perfectly Prepared! Thanks to the Staff of Izzy's Steak & Chops! What a great experience!!

Izzy's is our go to for an excellent steak and a friendly neighborhood type bar. We have enjoyed dinner for two as well as hosted business dinners here and it is always good. The Izzys potatoes is my favorite side with any dish - I enjoyed the skirt steak while my husband had the rib eye - both cooked as we ordered. Bread and wine completed the meal. Overall, another enjoyable meal.

A little disappointed as I had dined at the San Carlos location many times and the food has always been good at that location. The SF location was meh. Some notes: Prawn Cocktail – GINORMOUS. Comes in threes and you only need one per person. Pork Chop – This one was really good. Broccoli di Ciccio – Good Brussel Sprouts – OK; preferred a crispy texture. These were like steamed. Fries – Good but an order comes with like 6-8. Chicken Piccata – Disappointing; didn’t look like a chicken piccata (see other photos), was not much sauce and bland. Wedge Salad – Good but found a hair so they replaced it with another. Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad – Good Prime Rib – So disappointing. All that BBQ sauce….ugh…. Desserts – The cake was soooo dense we sent it back. The bread pudding was good. Overall, not the worst but for what we spent, food should’ve been a 4 out of 5. I would give the food 2.5-3 out of 5. Oh, cocktails are really good. Corkage is $50 which is steep; we should’ve just stuck to the cocktails The saving grave was our server, Debbie. She was AWESOME. Never questioned or blinked an eye when we sent a couple of dishes back. In fact, we sat next to a SUPER LOUD table of girls, and she apologized profusely for the noise. Although I gave an average review, I would definitely go back and try some other things. The cocktails were good and the ambiance is nice. Debbie also added to the star rating.

Izzy's was a very good experience all round. Cosy old school bar with sports on TV, but the tables and booths are sufficiently isolated from the bar area. Service was very attentive and friendly. The 4 of us has a selection of steaks (the reason for going!) and all were perfectly cooked but slightly more towards rare. Izzy's potatoes and cream spinach were plentiful and tasty but could be a little rich for some tastes. Good selection of wines and beers. Recommended.

Very disappointed in my recent meal here for a few reasons. 1) We were never offered bread, which use to be a staple, and the menu did not indicate it was by request only. 2) I ordered the prime rib and it was the worst prime rib I've ever had at a restaurant. The prime rib was dry, flavorless, tough and gray in color. My sister thought it was microwaved; I just thought it was old. In addition, I got charged an extra $5 for an end cut (added cost not in the menu) so the plate cost $49 - definitely not worth it. I ended up bringing the meat home and giving it to my dog, who would probably rate the meat 5 stars. The Izzy potatoes and brussel sprout sides were very good. 3) I found the drinks on the weak side and not cheap. What was once a great restaurant with a guaranteed good meal did not meet my expectations. Although I've been coming here for the past 30 years, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.

Excellent personalised customer service, the waiter was very attentive and offered very knowledgable advice. The food was extraordinary, particularly the calamari, drunken prawns and the side of creamed spinach. If I only lived in San Fran I’d be visiting all the time!

A little disappointed in our recent meal. The service was basic and a little unfriendly. All the other servers seemed friendly and to be chatting to their customers, not ours. Our mains got brought before our table was cleared. Nobody came and checked any of the food was ok. I thought the fillet was dry and slightly over cooked. The fries had been cooked in bad oil and had remnants of other food stuffs stuck to them. It tasted like fish, possibly calamari batter. The chocolate mousse cake was dry and average. I wouldn't recommend this place nor would I ever try it again if in the area.

We booked a table but had to move to a booth due to a very large noisy crowd. We waited almost 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken. Despite this, the food & service (eventually) were very good. I would have gone 5 but lack of initial service took that away. Would for sure come back and recommend to others.

Great vibe in this casual steakhouse! Very friendly staff and food was delicious. The NY strip steak with chimichurri sauce was cooked to perfection and an excellent cut of steak. Sour dough bread before dinner was yummy as well. Only down side was they ran out of baked potatoes but the waiter was very apologetic and offered us detailed descriptions of other options. And it was rather on the expensive side.

The house salad was good, the prime rib was ok, the service was just acceptable. The price was very high.

Booked a table here, for our last night in San Francisco. As it was just around the corner from our motel. I ordered the lamb shank, and the waiter checked with me, as he said it did not have much meat on it -he must have meant US portions, because to me there was a lot of meat. We had our meals with Izzy potatoes, which are like dauphinois. The meals were lovely. Had key lime pie to finish,. Very friendly waiter, as we were English, he chatted about his recent visit. Highly recommend.

We are visiting our friend in SF and we couldn’t get the reservation for House of Prime Rib so she recommended this place instead. We like the ambiance of this place, the atmosphere makes us feel so comfortable that we get to fully enjoy our meal and also did a long catch up with our friends. We ordered the prime rib, it’s tasty but we like the one from HOPR a little more.

The waiter was friendly, I had to wait a bit. I wonder if it was because I was alone. They seemed a little uncomfortable when I asked for a table for one, The steak was cooked perfectly but quite bland and I am glad I asked for the steamed asparagus as that was exceptional. The Izzy's potatoes were ok. I told the waiter they were a bit starchy. Needed another 10-20 minutes in the oven. Overall, an ok dinner.

Delicious filet mignon with peppercorn sauce and their famous accompaniments - izzy’s potatoes and creamed spinach. Totally recommend it!!

Went there yesterday night and the food was very very delicious, portions very good enough to share, it's very well located, the service is awesome very attentive, and personalized, prices are very worthy! In my personal opinion really good restaurant !

We are here and both chose the New York Au Poivre. Both were cooked to perfection. I had the creamed spinach and fries and my wife went for the onions and carrots. It was a most enjoyable meal and the head waiter was very charming.

My wife and I had a one-of-a-kind experience here last night. Izzy's is near the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre and we were in town for a show. Looking for a steak and a glass of wine - impossible to screw it up. Our waiter (dark hair, older, I couldn't pick up the source of the accent), told me the wine I ordered was not available. He tried to up-sell me on a $20 glass of wine. "No thank you". I pick another vintage. Then he comes back with a glass of wine - it's the $12 glass that he said wasn't available. A bit fishy, but I'm willing to call it an honest error. Next we order an 8oz. steak. I tell the waiter we are sharing the steak (not big appetites, my wife and I). I pick the sides and then the waiter tries to talk my wife into an entree. She's like "no thank you, what we ordered is just fine." He walks away in a huff. And, that's the last time we saw him. It's like we were price-shamed. When he realized this wasn't a $500 table he bailed. The busboys communicated with us from that point on. We watched as our waiter swooned and cooed over his other customers, walking past us time after time. Water refill? Wine refill? How is your meal? None of that happened. Not just bad service. Intentional bad service. So, in addition to the $0.00 tip we gave the waiter, he caused this review. Keep in mind that the food here is not horrible. But it is like an old pub that smells like your grandma's house. I really wanted to like it, and the food is worthy of a three star for sure. We just couldn't get over the bad service.

After 3 consecutive visits, I must write this review. I sat at bar each time and the odor of sewer or something similar, overwhelmed me. On the 2nd visit I mentioned to bartender and it wasn't news to him. He asked me to speak with the manager, which I did. He agreed with my assessment and said they would fix. Well, on 3rd visit, still horrible. I won't be back. Oh, by the way, the filet I had was perfect, but my nose overruled.

Went to Izzy's for a friend's birthday while visiting SF. We got to the restaurant a few minutes early and were asked to wait 4 minutes until our reservation time. After 24 minutes we were finally seated. The hosted didn't apologize and was outright rude to my party. She threw the menu's on the table and walked away before we could even reach the table that she was leading us to. Overall the food was good and the server made up for the rude hostess as he was quick and friendly. The wedge salad was better than most that I've had. We all ordered and enjoyed the Izzy's potatoes, and I also had the creamed spinach which was also very good. The steaks were cooked according to everybody's order and were good. Not the best steak house but not the worst either. Would have been 4 stars if not for the rude hostess.

After a week of tourist-type restaurants we wanted someplace nice, yet casual with a local vibe. Our Concierge nailed it by recommending Izzy's. Our waiter, Robin, made us feel right at home. Fabulous food, great wine and classic steakhouse atmosphere. Loved it!

Food was amazing! Our server, Jeremy, was very prompt and attentive. Highly recommend the salmon and creamed spinach.

We were walking in the area around our hotel looking for somewhere interesting to dine. We found Izzy's and were glad we did. The steaks were great - done to perfection. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Great steaks, great service. Well worth it for the prime rib and creamed spinach! Two mains with wine came in at around $80 and we would go back in a flash.

I have eaten at Izzy's on Steiner Street in San Francisco for years and have always had a great, great dining experience. I was thrilled on a recent business trio when I learned that they had a satellite venue in San Carlos not far fro the airport location where I was staying.. For some reason, they have not done well trying to replicate their downtown San Francisco experience in other locations. I explained to my waiter that I wanted my NY Sirloin cooked to where it was pink in the center. He suggested "well done." I knew when the words were out of my mouth that this was a mistake and it was. The steak arrived burned to a crisp. Steak is really simple to cook. I can never understand why waitstaff think they know better than chefs how to cook steak. But, this meal was a disaster and I will never go back. It can take years to develop a customer and seconds to lose one. The waiter was arrogant and unaccommodating. Some companies know how to replicate their good points to other venues. I think that Izzy's still needs to learn this lesson. Meanwhile, I highly recommend to all my followers their original Steiner Street location. It is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco.

Husband had been before and recommended it and we were not disappointed. Steaks were great and I had salmon which was lovely (although a little on the spicey side). We had a great evening.

We enjoyed our 50th 8th grade (yes!) reunion at Izzy's Saturday night. The food was great; the service was great and the cost was reasonable with all the wine and appetizers. I had the pork chops and my wife the salmon and both were delicious. My only 'ding' was that it was VERY loud and hard to hear the people sitting across. I understood we were supposed to get the back room on the 2nd floor but we were in the main dining area on the second floor. I think it would have been better had we been in the back room. The decor is old San Francisco. Izzy's is in a great part of town filled with restaurants and shops and certainly was fun to be in the area. I remember when there was an Izzy's in San Ramon- wish they were still there!

Izzy's staff handled our very large group upstairs pretty well, the ambiance (and bar) were very old school, and the food for our carnivorous was simply outstanding. An old historic haunt frequented by many stellar guests including Anton LaVey himself back in the '60s-70s!

Shared dinner here; the steak and creamed spinach were delicious; the izzy's potatoes were not my taste. The only real negative was after eating we were sitting and talking and the waiter came and said "i know we don't seem busy, but we need your table to seat a table of 8; would you mind leaving". I'm not sure that I have ever had that happen before, and to me, it seemed rude. I would understand had we been sitting for a long time, but we were in and out of the restaurant within 30-45 minutes, and no, the restaurant was not full.

We had great expectations for Izzy's, and were disappointed. I ordered the steak medallions au Poivre. They were flavorful enough, but overcooked. One friend ordered the drunken shrimp, and wasn't impressed. She left most of her meal uneaten. My husband's filet mignon was average. It seems like the restaurant is tired and resting on its laurels. With so many choices in the San Francisco area, Izzy's needs to up its game.

Best steak I ever ate! Love to go to Izzy's whenever I visit San Fran....and always order the creamed spinach too!

Wow, we have consistently dined at Izzy's every time in San Francisco for years. Last night was disappointing. Our service was slammed because our waiter didn't think we ordered enough. The calamari was rubbery. Our salad was lackluster. Our steak portions were very small compared to previous meals. Things have changed and not for the better.

I visit San Francisco a few times a year. I always make an effort to make a trip to Izzy's. Very reasonable priced restaurant for San Fran. You must try the creamed spinach. Best I ever tasted. Oh, steaks are great too.

I like the steaks cooked quite "rare", and this is a place where it is worth it ! The waiter understood to emphasize that I want medium-rare, with more rare and it was excellent. Of course this wouldn't be so if the meat was just great. The service was also very warm and fun. The place is a very nice and cozy. We had a great round table in the second floor that was wonderful for having a great time with family and friends.

This is a totally normal kind of place with every condiment and hot sauce you would likely have at home right on the shelf next to your booth. Steaks are really solid and much less expensive than usual San Francisco prices. House Manhattan (8 bucks) was Knob Creek and icy cold up. Atmosphere is practical, not romantic, but noise level when restaurant was full was completely bearable. Okay, my favorite part, they peel the asparagus and they are sweet and tender. Waiter was very cool, French fellow who knew his steaks and rightly recommend medium rare and au poivre. Its a neighborhood Marina place so expect that vibe and mostly locals.

Excellent stake house. Meat is perfect substance, cooking and taste. Side dishes are great. House salad delicious. Good wine selection. Has a Jersey type atmosphere! Loved it !!! Go. Have dinner there

For the first time in a long time, I had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious portion of prime rib with a nicely baked potato and steamed broccoli that was cooked just the right amount of time. Izzy's is not a fancy place but I found the food and service impeccable. It also has a nice selection of wines and I enjoyed a glass of Hess Cabernet which was reasonably priced and very pleasant to drink. The coffee served at the end of the meal was also absolutely delicious. It was one of the rare times that I asked for a second cup. I highly recommend Izzy's. I plan to return soon.

We arrived at Izzy's on spec and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming or friendly. We were shown to a table immediately (and not one tucked away in a dark corner!) and a waiter was on hand to take our drinks order within seconds. He was knowledgeable about the menu too, which meant that all of us were more than happy with our choices when they arrived. Fantastic steaks all round! Service was quick and attentive and, although the meal wasn't cheap (but where is "cheap" in San Francisco?) we felt we had had good value for money and would definitely head here again on any future trip from the UK.

...so an overall very pleasant experience. Actually staff from the hotel I stayed in, recommended the place. I would probably never have ended up in that place otherwise. I really liked it and the food was great, especially the sides were very creative and tasty. This for sure is kind of unusual in North America, because the main focus is normally on the steak. I have one additional comment: The pricing is not cheap, but not too high either. What I personally disliked was the fact, that the bill already contained a service charge and tax was calculated on top of that. This all added up to another almost 25% of the original price or so. Without that, I would probably have rated the place 5 stars

The food was top notch. We all had steaks (NY strip and sirloins) and they were just perfectly cooked. The sides were fantastic too. The kids loved the vegetables, and I was very happy with a baked sweet potato and creamed spinach. Um, really good! The waiter was attentive while not being pushy. Really nice atmosphere too. It was expensive, but for a splurge, totally worth it.

Outstanding food and I’m picky. I had the warm goat cheese salad which was superb and the lamb chops which were delicious. Warm atmosphere. Old school in all the right ways.

This is the fourth or fifth time we've eaten at Izzy's, and considering that we live in Panama and visit San Francisco twice a year for one week at a time, the headline should tell you all you want to know. Heavily patronized by locals, the place is friendly and the atmosphere conducive to enjoying a satisfying dinner. I heartily recommend Izzy's !

The Meal was very good, and the chocolate mousse cake was delightful. My Groupon didn't go as smooth as the meal did, they had no scanner for my Groupon. Then after 25 minutes they took the number off of my Groupon Scanner Code.

Joelle was our server and she was marvelous!! Absolutely delightful, so I don't know who the other people are complaining about, but it sure isn't Joelle. Had a great going away dinner there. Everyone enjoyed their choices Prime Rib, Filet Mignon au Poivre, and Glazed Skirt Steak. They were cooked to order and delicious. The Izzy Potatoes and Creamed Spinach were nice sides. All in all it was a carnivores delight and cholesterol extravaganza!! Good meat and good prices, plus great service by Joelle!

On a recent double date with friends we stopped by Izzy's after some theater. This is a no frills classic steakhouse with consistent quality food. The steaks are cooked exactly to request, and the sides are all quite delicious. We enjoyed the drunken shrimp as an appetizer, and many bottles of wine with our steak dinners. Kudos to the team at Izzy's.

Very poor quality rib steak; tough, tasteless and thoroughly unappealing presentation for the most expensive steak on a steakhouse menu. Brussel sprouts nearly raw, house potatoes served lukewarm. Restaurant is tired, worn and poorly maintained. Very disappointing expensive experience. From a food and ambiance experience it deserves zero stars, the service was very good, which is why I gave it two.

Excellent food, exceptional service, classic SF atmosphere. We sat in one of the high backed leather booths, and enjoyed wonderful food. Suggest you go early as it gets very noisy and crowded later. Reservations are a must!

We stopped here after walking around checking out other places. Can't comment on to much as we shared a jumbo shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad. There were a few people seated when we walked in at around 6pm. But boy did they place fill up! The waitress was very friendly and prompt. Add two glasses of wine and the bill was $60.

We had a great meal here. Very good steak. Shame the mushrooms weren't fresh - tinned or frozen maybe? Excellent service too. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

We were celebrating our anniversary in San Francisco and chose Izzy's. We like to experience local places when on vacation. Izzy's was great. The atmosphere was not intimate or romantic, but we knew that going in. Michael our server, was great. We did not feel rushed, he recommended a great cabernet and he made great food recommendations. I had the filet medalions au poivre which was divine and my husband had the plain filet mignon, which he loved also. You have to try the Izzy's potatoes if you go. The potatoes are amazing, no diet food her, but you're on vacation. The cheesecake for dessert was just right. We would definitely go again.

Whilst on our recent trip to San Francisco, we visited Izzy's. Purely out of fascination and wonder as my daughter has the same name and we like little associations like that. Anyway, as we walked out on the Fairmont hotel, the doorman (who looked remarkably like Samuel L Jackson) looked surprised when he said we were going to Izzy's when he called us a taxi. 'Wow, Izzy's on a Friday? Thats proper party central. Old skool party' (imagine the Samuel L Jackson voice and you've got it!) So off we went. We walked in and it was like walking into a pub on Charing Cross road. It was rammed. The volume was unbearable. The bar was on the left hand side as we walked in and the restaurant was on the right hand side on a slightly raised level. The food was good and so was the service. The portions are huge. I had Calimari to start and I really could have had it as my main course. Both the wife and I enjoyed the food but we really didnt know we was walking into what I would call a pub back home in England. Not a problem as long as you know what you are getting. I'd eat here again but I would change my expectation levels.

We ate at Izzy’s from a recommendation. We had a group of 7 and were seated quickly and had wonderful service. The food was delicious and the wine selections were too. Would definitely go back when in San Francisco.

As A visitor to the U.S, you feel obliged to eat a good steak. Thiw was a good steak but not great and the noise and the ambience were a bit disappointing. We found better places to eat nearby at better prices.

Returning to SF we had dinner again at Izzie's. Great tasting meat, good service, nice selection. As we have not seen our friend for awhile we sat in a booth so we could talk, laugh and have fun. The restaurant and bar were busy and sounds of enjoyment and atmosphere. We tried 3 different meats and all were good. Love Sourdough bread and butter starter! Good choices of side dishes. Full bar! We had our friend try the chimicurri sauce, garlic and spices great with steak.

We arrived in San Francisco tired after travelling all day and were recommended to this great eatery by our hotel. It was rather late but we were warmly welcomed and the food was excellent - definitely recommend the potatoes - they are sensational. Warm, friendly service in a casual bar atmosphere.

I was in the area looking for a steakhouse and came upon Izzys. Very cute decor. Prices were a bit high but portions were very big. My family of six actually split 3 steaks, and they do charge a sharing plate charge but each steak comes with 2 sides. The cream spinach was excellent as were the house made potatoes. Desserts looked yummy but we were too stuffed to order them.

I love good meat and was taken here for a meal. When we came in a Monday night it was quiet and sat in a booth where we could visit. The place was packed when we left. We all enjoyed our meals. My meat was outstanding. Staff were great and we had an enjoyable evening!

When we want a good quality dinner for night out on town, we have chosen Izzy's more than more other places. We choose them primarily due to its nice location in the Marina district, it has above average quality of steaks to choose from, and it is not crazy expensive like nicer steak houses could be. If you are not into steak, I would probably steer clear of Izzy's since the non-steak choices are fairly limited. However, they do have chicken, fish and pork. They have standard sides, but their Izzy's Potatoes are very good. They have a full bar and TVs at the bar too. We will definitely come back here when we are in the mood for steak. As mentioned, this is not the #1 steak place in the city, but for quality, and location, it will continue to be an option for us.

Have been coming here for years but I must say, the last three times I’ve come the food has been memorable all around, Fantastic goat cheese salad, good price, light yet sweet vinaigrette with walnuts and apples and toasted ball of goat cheese that melts in your mouth. Rack of Lamb, tender perfectly grilled with smoky beans. Skirt steak was perfect as usual. Salmon was excellent. Hamburger was even spectacular. Everything was consistently done to perfection. And I’m picky

Great service and amazing food, decently priced. The menu doesn’t list cocktails so ask about the separate list. I had a gin based cocktail and it was strong but good. Creamy spinach and steak were delicious!

+++ Nice place / traditional Nice service Perfectly cooked meat Good value for money --- Nothing to challenge

When in the Marina District and the urge to eat good beef strikes, there's no place like Izzy's! My wife and I came to Izzy's with an appetite for prime rib and filet mignon. Both cuts of meat were tender and cooked to perfection - medium rare! We ordered their signature side dishes - creamed spinach and the scalloped potatoes. The house merlot complemented the meal perfectly! We both very much enjoyed our entrees and the atmosphere. Will not comment on dessert as there was no room even though we were asked. LOL

Large portions. Solid customer service. Crowded, but manageable. Very loud inside, not music but crowds talking, but not annoying. Several sorts of meat very tasty. Must try vegetables, broccoli and potato, superb. Red wine from Sonoma Valley good. Prices higher, but it is SF tourist area. Recommend.

As below (previous reviews) not much to add.... always worried when you get loads of fantastic reviews that it won't live up to its hype..... THiS DID! Steak.... beautiful! Sides (izzys potatoes) superb! Staff... knowledgable friendly approachable and full of recommendations. Wine list many to choose! Place had lovely vibe to it and is something special Advice.... book ahead of you can to avoid disappointment! Thanks to all the staff for a lovely meal and evening.

Hurried Service, ran out of bread and also the price absolutely not compared to Service and quality, business dinner

Best Evening with Family!!! Longtime favorite Steak Place in San Fran..... Great people serving Great Steaks to Father Tim and his family for years. Coming to San Fran and you want a steak, you come to IZZY's....

I should have trusted my initial impression walking in but we were tired so opted to stay. No children's menu which is poor and then charge a four dollar fee (for cutting in two?) to split a steak between our two boys! Food was fine and service was good. Place is drab and very old fashioned. Bring your grandparents but otherwise avoid.

Nice parket setting with white tablecloths, and formally attired servers. The service was very good: prompt, accurate, and friendly. The food: not so much. Average steak at best, overcooked carrots. The house potatoes are quite good. The meals are generous: 2 sides included. Still outdoor only.

One of the great old steak houses in San Francisco. The food was great and the service was better. We were here on a crowded evening and everything was fine. Will visit again the next time we're in town.

I was there with my sister and brother-in-law for dinner tonight. I had their Filet Mignon, baked sweet potato, and broccoli for supper tonight. it was delicious! the service was also wonderful!

We had dinner there mainly because the rain discouraged us from a wider search. I ordered lamb shank and thank god i asked for separate sauce. The sauce was very thin and unduly sweet. The creamed spinach were ununderstadably sweetish too. Their choice of Malbec for glass service was in the unexpected direction of a Madeira. So, after all that no need for dessert. The shank itself was a memory of what it must have been before a good part of structure and flavor had been enucleated. The two stars are due to the general visually pleasing location.

I am so glad that Izzy's Steak & Chop House has finally opened an outpost here in the East Bay! Luckily Izzy's has a Happy Hour seven days a week once I saw that sandwich board in front promoting their daily Happy Hour from 4:30-6:30pm I knew I was home! Izzy's is a Bay Area institution, with outposts in the marina district of San Francisco and San Carlos, which is known for their prime cuts of steaks and prime rib as well as their generous side portions and pours. At Izzy's of Oakland, their dining room is really old school as their historic building features a mezzanine with a vaulted ceiling with slow spinning fans hanging from them. Since Happy Hour time was almost wrapping as we found two stools to sit at the granite top bar and made sure to order our drinks and bar bites under the Happy Hour prices quickly. The Happy Hour menu is quaintly featured on the mirror of the left hand side of the bar. The original price of all of the handcrafted cocktails is ten dollars but Happy Hour affords you a three dollar discount on any of them. My friend and I both we intrigued by the Hemmingway Daiquiri, which was both sweet and sour with a healthy ratio of lime and liqueur. To start off our meal, the Roasted Mussels at ten dollars a plate for Happy Hour is a price that could not be beat. The mussels are served on a sizzling skillet and topped with plenty of garlic and butter, just the way I like it and our server was nice enough to bring out a half loaf of bread with butter to dip into our sizzling skillet to get that extra oily goodness in. Of course my friend and I were still hungry, and so we perused the dinner menu for what steak whetted our appetite. My dining mate and I decided we wanted to split the Filet Medallions Au Poivre with a choice of two sides which were recommended by our bartender/ server, the creamed spinach and the Izzy's Own Potatoes which were a buttery combination of scalloped and mashed potatoes. Everything about the dish was heavy and that wasn't a bad thing to the Au Poivre sauce covering the steak split into two dishes to the heaping sides of spinach and potatoes. This was old school steak dining at it's finest. All I was missing was my scotch on the rocks to go with my meal. Two notes to go with this dish, they do charge an extra four dollars at Izzy's to split your meal into two dishes, but with two extra heaping sides it actually comes out to equal pricing, and beware of adding any extra milled pepper to your dish as the steak is already topped with whole black peppercorns for that extra kick. Izzy's Steak & Chop House has found its rightful place in downtown Oakland. With a very affordable Happy Hour menu with a wide array of selections including no fewer than five discounted cocktails, you spend a week here ordering a new different item of that menu alone and not be disappointed. Someone next to us sat down and ordered the Extra Thick Pork Chop with Apple Chutney and you could tell by the expertly grilled sear marks on the chop that Izzy's takes its' grilling seriously. That is one dish I have to order next time, along with the Lamb Shanks and the Baby Back Ribs. As I said before, the place is an old school steakhouse with steakhouse prices so if you're looking for affordability, Happy Hour and splitting plates with your dining partner is the best way to go.

Our family had dinner at Izzy's; it was really good. We started with an appetizer portion of their Drunk(en) Shrimp. Something about it reminded me of the best of New Orleans. They served it with bread from Boudin's, which we dipped in the sauce. Divine. My daughter and I split a rib-eye, my son had the skirt steak, and I think my husband had prime rib. My son and my husband ordered their steaks medium, but both came out really rare. Our sides were great--especially their house scalloped potato side. Our service was slow at first, but was great for most of the meal. *As a former waitress, I'm always surprised when there is a delay taking the drink order because alcohol sales up the final amount, which ups the tip. Minor issues, though--I still highly recommend this restaurant.

I made a quick trip to San Francisco from San Jose. I was down at the Golden Gate Bridge and getting ready to head back. Before the drive I stopped into the area around Izzy's and decided to give Izzy's a try. I ordered the NY Steak, Medium Rare, Izzy's potatoes and carrots. The steak was cooked great but lacked the flavor. Odd, never have I eaten a steak and thought I should have ordered something else. Other items were OK. Staff was not friendly or attentive. Honestly, I will not be back.

Izzy's has been a local neighborhood place forever. You can get a good steak, vegetables and whatever else most steak places serve! Usually easy to get into if you do not have a reservation if you go on the earlier side or call and make a reservation. Every meal I have had here has been great.

I was really looking forward to this evening. So much so that I made my reservations 3 months in advance. Plus there were 6 of us and had to call for that size of a group. I had seen the restaurant on Check Please Bay Area so knew exactly what to order. Unfortunately I should have read more about the booths and seating arrangements. We were led upstairs to a round table by the fireplace. Perfect! Not! We had a group of 30 on one side and a group of 25 on the other. I could not hear a thing from the person next to me let alone the person across from me. I could here both groups pretty loud and clear. My marinated skirt steak was great as was the filet and the prime rid. The Izzy’s potatoes were great. The creamed spinach had more cream than spinach. I look at the picture someone posted and it is waaay too green. The steak Diane was also disappointing. For a steakhouse it would be good to say what kind of steak it is. The consensus was that it was a New York but very tough. It was pan fried in a mushroom sauce. My favorite steak, a rib eye, was off the chart pricey so no one ordered it. I guess the big thing was the noise. Why you would put a group of 6 in the middle of 2 Holiday Parties is beyond belief and poor customer service. My sister in law simply left the room and sat outside. Very disappointing 😔

A long time mainstay in the Marina District we walked past and saw a couple eating their steak through a window. We did a U-Turn and could not be happier we did. I have eaten some legendary steaks and both of ours were superb. The service was faultless, & not overpriced. Being from Australia it was nice they offered to answer all our queries about the menu & wine. A great way to start our first night in the Marina district.

Great classic steakhouse in SF with a lovely outdoor terrace set up. When we went (July 2021) they were not seating indoors STILL. So outside was our only option. Luckily we had good weather. They do have heaters though. The service was excellent, thanks Carolina! Food was delish, and drinks were fantastic. It was both our first times here at Izzy's and I will say that we will be back the next time we are in the city! This is one of my go-to spots now :) My steak au poivre was fantastic!!!

Comfortable wood paneled interior. A place where locals go. Best steak I've had in years (Ribeye) with excellent sides.

Had reservation for 6:00 P.M.! Arrived a little early! Was told relative waiting for us upstairs! Ordered drinks, margerita was delightful! Served bread and butter while waiting for the rest of the family arrive! I ordered filet mignon medium rare, with baked potatoe and creamed spinach, the steak was 8 oz and I ate all of it! My husband had primerib, he really liked it, but be carefull the horse radish was very hot! My grandaughters cheeseburger was actually to big for only 1 kid! We didn't have desert, still full from the meal! Parking isn't very good, maybe find parking away from the restaurant, or validation certain parking garage! The restaurant is very expensive, but once a year not bad!

Recommended by the concierge at our hotel we headed out for Izzy´s. What a treat. Classic old steak house with a youthful kind of no BS here attitude. Very nice surprise and so so relaxed. Had probably best single cut ribeye on the bone this year. The spinach is best in town and the mash is divine. Wine choices are good and we soon found a bottle via our attentive waiter, which was so california and fantastic.

Staying on the Lombard Street during my recent visit to San Francisco, decided to give Izzy''s a go. It is 36 year old fine dining place with cordial staff, good ambience, and quality food. I had the fried oysters and the lamb shank. Fried oysters were good and the lamb shank was among the best I have ever had. The experience was slightly marred by pricing as the value for money seems to be nonexistent. It is probably a staple place for the area but difficult to visit multiple times due to prohibitive pricing. But it's a great place to visit at least once if you are in the area.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Izzy's. We hadn't been there in a long time and were looking forward to going back. We were very pleased with our meal. I had the prime rib and he had the steak au poivre with sides of the creamed spinach and baked potatoes. Service and food were excellent.

After placing our order we waited nearly an hour for our food. We finally asked the manager and it came out — all lukewarm and/or cold. The waitress basically stopped talking to us and when she was forced to come to the table she was extremely impolite. The restaurant was packed (indoor and outdoor seating) and they clearly didn’t have the staff for it. I could see how it might be a decent place but based on our experience I wouldn’t even try again.

Fancied a nice steak, so our family of 4 visited here from staying 1 block away. Seemed welcoming and our waitress obviously had plenty of experience. If I'd stayed any longer, no doubt I'd have been 3 sheets to the wind. As soon as my glass was empty she was there to ask if I'd like another. Well; it would be rude not to! The food/steak? Delicious.

This restaurant has a lot going for it. Neither of us ordered steak - I had the fried shrimp and my husband had the drunken shrimp and both were cooked perfectly. The creamed spinach was wonderful, as were the baked potato, Izzy's own potatoes and the broccoli. My favorite St. Supery sauvignon blanc was available by the glass. The only problem came up when we inquired about dessert. We had chatted with the family at the next table as we were all from Texas (but they lived in the City). Our waiter had heard some of our conversation. So when we asked him for a dessert suggestion, he said "Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream - that's what you people like to eat!" Huh? I told him I didn't see peach cobbler on the menu, was it one of their specials? Of course it wasn't. What a strange way to treat customers. With that said, the service and food were good enough to justify 5 stars.

Last Sunday I went there to eat a dish called "hangtown fry" a egg dish made with oysters. When I walked in at 1pm. we were the only people in the restaurant! That was my first warning sign. There was a couple of people sitting at the bar as well as some employees. I ordered a omelet that came with cheesy potatoes and creamed spanish. The sides tasted so tired, much like they were left over from at least one day old. I only ate less then a third of my meal. I am a long time client. Maybe be still good for a steak at night, but stay away during the day

The best steak dinner in the last twenty years! The New York steak was way beyond expectations! The service from our waiter, Charlie, was perfect. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

In thirty years of dining out in the Bay Area, Izzey's Restaurant is my all-time favorite. Of course, being just one block from my apartment makes it an easy choice (and Robin - the waiter mentioned in the review on the next page is my choice for server of the decade also.) If you like the atmosphere of the red-booth restaurants of the big cities of the mid-west and the east coast, Izzey's has it all, and at modest prices to boot!

The pork chop was tender and juicy and my wife's lamb shank was delicious. Very good service too. We had a semi private booth. Street parking only with valet available. We ordered the creamy spinach as a side order and the sourdough bread was warm and fresh. A very good experience.

I can't say enough good things about Izzy's. The food, service, atmosphere, we're all beyond our expectations. We were a party of 7 and each of us had a spectacular experience. I can't wait to return.

Ohh Jesus, I will never ever forget that night. We went to Izzys after 8 pm but it was still busy, who cares. The atmosphere is full of american style, at least I felt like that. I just tried once, I have no any idea about other meals but the best rib eye steak ( RARE) I have had in the last 5 year. A bit expensive but... Hey we are talking about top 10 steak house. Thanks IZZY S

Went on a national deal that offered a 3 course meal. We both had a starter. Unmemorable. Both the fillet steak. Excellent and really liked the cream spinach. Both had the dessert. Very good. Was surprised when we had been charged for a starter and a dessert. Clearly a misunderstanding on our part. We had a 3 course meal each. Thought the manager could have been more sympathetic. Pity would have preferred to remember this place for its nice setting and excellent steaks.

We live in Vacaville and go to Izzy's yearly around Christmas time. The restaurant is warm and cozy. The service is excellent and you can't beat the great food. Their cream spinach is as good as the House of Prime Rib. You can't go wrong ordering the steak au porvre. Izzy's is just a fabulous dining experience.

We'd eaten at Izzy once before, off the menu. It was quite good, especially the steaks. We figured when they offered a $37 groupon for 1 that it would include some of the steaks and other featured stuff. Wrong. They had five items including Steak Dianne and flank steak, 3 of our group bought the Dianne - mistake. thin, not very tender and horribly overcooked. One sent it back and the replacement was somewhat better. The deserts were good, the salad fine, the clam chowder cold and flavorless. The deserts were first rate. The service was very good. Our first table was next to a birthday party of twenty somethings such that we couldn't hear each other They moved us upstairs where we were the only diners. A steakhouse is a place to go for a real special meal - otherwise you barbecue good NY strips at home. Rather than Izzy's, stay at home, or just come for cheesecake or key lime pie.

After many years of going to Izzy's for the "best steak in San Francisco", we have now had our last dinner there. The Maitre d was rude upon arrival, our drinks were incorrect, the food was terrible and we felt rushed as the Maitre d kept coming to the area and looking at our table, even though we had not been there very long. The table next to us was turned twice in the time we were there - less than an hour. We always request Michael as our server; he was good but not as good as in previous years. The overall experience was so disappointing we will never go back.

is there really more to say about a good steakhouse? They have great meat and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was probably the best trained waiter of our 2 weeks in California. the place looks like it's coming out of the 50s. A good place to have a good dinner. No fuss but great food none the less

Ambiance not great for the amount you pay. We found it quite expensive and they automatically add 18% gratuity. Our waiter was very brusk and unfriendly until we were leaving then he suddenly got chatty. Overall not the best experience for our 1st time in SFO.

The potatoes are amazing, the service is old school and great. The drinks are there and the wine is good. Great selection of steak. Bone in options. The sides are perfect! When in the Marina, go to Izzy's. It is the BEST!!!

The steaks are fantastic, the service as well. Great small bar friendly bartender can give you plenty of tips for the city. Also try the creme brûlée it's awesome!

Good tasting food in a old-school setting. Izzy's also has a decent wine list. Not exactly a place for a "hopping scene," but decent food nonetheless.

Loved the homely slightly western style of this restaurant. We reserved and got a really good table from the owner himself. Had filet mignon which was not cooked as requested "black and blue" but the mistake was rectified immediately and did not encroach on the meal. The food was good quality. The steaks of high caliber.

We were a party of five who couldnn't get into the restaurant we wanted and Izzy's to their credit had plenty of room. The hamburger I ordered had this horrible topping of spicey who knows what, my hamburger was rare not medium. The baked potato was dull, the cream spinich spicey. Prices were high. The service was fine, the maitre or head was gracious.

The decor is nice, the ambiance is ok, however unimpressed with the food here. It took an age to come out, even though the place was not busy and when it did the creamy spinach was watery and the streak, medium rare, had not been rested so bled into the water spinach. Not a good meal.

Made reservations for my daughters birthday through Groupon. A table for 5 adults, one child, no problem. Was able to sit upstairs , a little quieter we heard. Our waiter, Charlie, was excellent. Very informative and welcoming. Informed him of the Groupon and he recited basically we had full use of the menu, nice! The bone-in Ribeye and filets were ordered and cooked to perfection, the choice of 2 sides each were equally great; creamed spinach, Izzy's own potatoes, carrots and onion, very nicely done. The starters of Shrimp cocktail and calamari were great and fresh! the Desserts rocked. We recommend this restaurant, you won't be disappointed!

It took awhile for our server to greet us but we could see he was busy and he did acknowledge the wait so no problem there. We ordered the prime rib which included a potato and broccoli and it was truly awful. The prime rib was bland and too raw, the potato was cold and undercooked , the broccoli was also undercooked. The horseradish sauce was bland and the au jus was cold. We ate what we could and would have sent it back but our server was nowhere to be found. We had to ask a busy boy to get our server just to get the check and asked to see a manager but that never happened. We've always had great service and quality food whenever we have visited San Fransisco so we were disappointed especially $110 later.

My husband and I was here on our anniversary November of 2021. We had the Crispy Calamari to start and I was raving about it ever since and told all my foodie friends. All the food that came after including the dessert was excellent. So I decided to make the reservation via Open Table for Valentine. It was fully booked. I tried to make several phone calls directly and left messages and no one returned my call. We decided to make reservation for the next day. Again via Open Table , it was fully booked and nothing was available, So I decided to go to the restaurant directly at 5 when they just opened. There was a Matre D there and I explained to him about the situation. Is there any table open for whatever time. He said yes. So I said why was it fully booked from 5 to 9 pm at Open Table and why no one called me back. He said that the phone is broken. Really for more than 2 days and if it pertinent for business, it should have been fixed right away. So I asked the girl who scheduled us for 6:00 pm seating why does it say it is fully booked. She said that she don't know why the Manager blocked the seating. Anyway, I had the table for 6:00 pm All the time we were there for an hour the area where I was sitting there was 7 table. They are all empty except ours. I also shared my grievance with the Waiter. He was not happy, because it means that is money in his pocket. To top it off, the Calamari that I was so looking forward to came in soggy and cold. It did come very quickly. I have to send it back. After that nothing seems right and I totally did not enjoy the dinner and I don't think I will ever come back.

We ordered our dinner in while staying at a hotel that didn't have a restaurant so didn't really have high expectations on the meal being much but we were so wrong. We had two different steaks and they were cooked perfectly and very generous servicing sizes. The delivery was only half an hour . Would definately use their service again and if get the chance while in SF we will visit the restaurant. Thanks guys from a couple of girls craving meat and veggies.

We were walking around chestnut street looking for somewhere to eat. A local stopped us and told us about Izzy's - she said it's the best steak in San Fransisco and she was right! We had a fantastic steak (creamy spinach and Izzy's potatoes are AMAZING), paired with beautiful Nappa valley wine. Our waiter was so helpful and her recommendations were spot on. Highly recommended

Best restaurant in the way overpriced Marina neighborhood. Good steaks and two great sides for less than 40 dollars is very fair. Nice bar and neighborhood atmosphere too.

The dinner is similar to an airport vendor. $52 for prime rib is laughable. The bartenders are very limited in their service. The food is an afterthought. The wine list is silly for San Francisco. This is not a traditional San Francisco restaurant. It's an Orange County wannabe. Sad.

I came with a friend .ordered ceaser salad ,steak and salmon .bad steak salad stinks probanly bad cheese and butter soaking salmon. Bad service ,the bartender was rude , wanted the table free .we returned the whole steak didnt even bother to hear what we had to say . Overall bad service and vad food .

My friend and I wanted a nice steak dinner for our last night in San Francisco but didn't necessarily want to spend $100/person. This place had great reviews and a midrange price. We made reservations easily on trip advisor and we're glad we did because it was packed when we arrived. We were seated right away and our waiter was quick to get drink orders. My friend got a New York strip and I ordered the special (filet mignon in red wine sauce with blue cheese) and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We passed over appetizers in favor of dessert after our meal as we certainly could not have had all three! Portions were more than generous. My steak was cooked as ordered (medium for me) and our waiter was attentive and personable. The restaurant atmosphere was bustling but comfortable. We took our time and never felt rushed. It's not a huge place so tables are close together but not squished or awkward. It's a lovely place, nice but casual. I'd certainly recommend to other travelers!

Our last night on our last trip having ridden through all 48 contiguous states. Wonderful meal. Steak Diane with steamed broccoli and creamed spinach and Pork chop with carrots and onions and creamed spinach. Tasty and cooked to perfection!

Disgusting Host with blond hair this Friday tried fighting us at the door for coming late and made a huge scene In front of customers The food here has always bee been but must admit they have a nice outdoor setup to accommodate the poor food and guest experience

We been going to Izzys at Steiner and Chestnut many decades and have been very enthusiastic about it. But the evening of Dec 5, was different. I made a reservation for 5 at 7PM, requesting a booth for a guest that was having a birthday and that had never been there. They DID mention it would be tight for 5, but none of us are large people. Although I know it is never guaranteed to get the booth, it sounded as if the request was in. When we arrived the Maitre D was very abrupt and said No booths are avail. Didn't check the reservation system or even offer for us to wait. I asked how long to wait for a booth and he said 40 mins. Very disappointing for a special occasion. At least they had a table ready for us even tho it wasn't a booth. The food is still great. All our guests seemed very pleased with their Lamb shank, Prime rib and steaks. I guess it is just time for us to make a change in our destination when it comes to local well known steak house. Attitude DOES make a difference!

Izzys has been there for a long time. I enjoy it every time we go. I had the pork chop, my friend had the salmon. Both were very good. The izzys special potatoes should be experienced, they are outstanding. The waiter had been there 20 years. He gave good recommendations, and provided excellent service. Lots of locals there. You should give it s try

We had great food at Izzys in San Francisco! The waiter called Robin was very helpful, not only did he help us with our food choices, he also explained all the best places to visit! He gave us a free San Francisco newspaper once we had finished our meal which detailed the best places to visit in the city :) on leaving the restaurant I left my sunglasses on the table! He was kind enough to catch us up outside and band these back to us!

For our last night in San Francisco, we decided to choose a steak house. Both of us ordered the filet and it was perfectly prepared and delicious! One of us ordered Izzy’s potatoes and they did not disappoint us. An excellent meal!

A fantastic memory! I called a couple days before to see if Izzy’s could accommodate my last-minute party of about 35 people (not easy to do!). Edwin made everything SO EASY for us! Every other month or so, our firm hosts large client/partner dinners at the very best restaurants around the country for our c-level executive clients. Over the years I have heard raving reviews about Izzy’s so I thought it would be fun to give it a try. I got a little nervous after reading some of the whiny reviews that didn’t match at all the feedback I had received about the restaurant from my friends. I went in the day before to scope it out. They treated us like family and shared with us the rich fascinating history of the restaurant, which we were then also able to share with our guests the next night. It’s one thing to go to dinner, it is quite another to have an experience. We learned that Izzy’s originally existed during the prohibition era and then re-emerged with its current owners in 1987. It has been awarded a ‘Legacy Business Status’ title by the city, which is given to a few selected restaurants are considered to have a historical/cultural relevance granting them certain protections and financial assistance to support its longevity. There is so much more history to learn about this wonderful gem, I would encourage you to ask them to share more with you when you visit. Okay on to the food and experience. I don’t want to say we are hard to please, but it is fair to say our group is hard to impress no doubt. Some of their staff has been there for 20 years++, and they were simply outstanding. The night of our event Mark was managing, and he and his crew were engaging and attentive – I really couldn’t complement them enough….Jollie, Angel, bartender Steve….to all that helped create a great memory, thank you! (And I apologize for any spelling errors in the names and for the other names I have forgotten). My group was still talking about the food days later. Everything was a 10! The drunken shrimp was incredible. Our servers encouraged us to order calamari for the table, which I felt was going to be a little boring but I did it anyways and wow, there is something really special about their calamari. Most of our guests ordered steaks and every single one was cooked as ordered!!! That was probably close to 25-30 steaks that all came out at the same time. I don’t even know how they pulled that off. Well done Izzy’s, well done. We will definitely be back. Sincerest thanks.

This place is very old school, a classic menu of steaks and that things that go with them. A big bar and lots of people sitting at the bar having fun. The food quality was very good, we had good dinners. The sound level was deafening so be prepared to not have an easy time chatting. And the prices were extremely high. A very expensive evening.

Excellent meat and sides, although I expected better from one of San Francisco's most famous restaurants. The waiters are far too present, we didn't have time to finish before they already took away the dishes (unfortunately this is the case in the vast majority of American restaurants). The location is really very beautiful. For 4 steaks, 8 side dishes and 4 beers we spent 250 dollars, so average.

Last minute choice to eat in this restaurant and we were delighted that we decided to eat here. Our server was very friendly and attentive with food really tasty. Would highly recommend eating here.

What a wonderful and refreshing experience I had at Izzy's. I was there to celebrate my birthday. The staff was very attentive, and seated me in a nice section with a beautiful view of the city. My steak was made to perfection, very savory and soft. I was very pleased as the staff sang happy birthday to me and presented me with a complimentary desert. Five Star Service here! I'll definitely be back.

My husband was in the mood for some grilled-American fare and we found Izzy's, so we stopped in. It was a pretty good place to dine for the evening. We had Steak Dianne and Apple Chutney Pork Chop dinners, we both enjoyed our suppers! Everything was cooked very well! Steak was done as requested. Veggies weren't over-cooked. And, the Izzy's potatoes were pretty tasty. We would both order our dinners again. Portions were very fair, we got really full finishing our plates! The atmosphere was nice, it was busy but not too much so. It was clean. It was a place people seemed to be enjoying relaxing dinners. Our server was attentive and nice, and she was sure to help us with the menu. Price for our dishes was fair. There were dishes that were crazily priced if you wanted to splurge. But, you could definitely find dishes that weren't too spendy. All in all, we'd eat here again (if there weren't 1,000 other places to try!!).

We were looking for a dinner place that was in a quieter part of the city in the Marina District. This is a bar/restaurant that felt like a local hangout. We were there around 6 on a Friday night and there were a couple of tables being served at that time. But within an hour every table was full. I would suggest reservations after 6:30. We had a Groupon, which saved us quite a bit of money. The filet mignon was cooked perfect and the salmon was prepared with a spicy Cajun seasoning. Lots of sides to pick from, see the menu online.

Definitely a Great Steak dinner We were looking for a nice steak dinner and google-searched San Fran steak houses. Izzy's came up and had good comments. It was close so we decided to give it a try. Parking was easy, but it was a Monday night. Found the location, and at first was not impressed by the appearance. It has an old Pub look and feel. We were seated right away in a cozy, leather booth. We were driving so we did not order drinks, but I did notice they did have a nice selection of wine and scotches. The waiter was friendly and accommodating. He answered all questions like a seasoned pro. I informed him that I was debating between the blackened filet or the bone-in ribeye. He suggested that I order the ribeye and have it blackened. BAM!!!! it was a no-brainer, that was the choice, accompanied by a salad, creamed spinach and Izzys potatoes. The food was cooked perfect and the taste was spectacular. The portions are large but we made room for dessert "Chocolate Decadence Cake", Awesome!!! If you are in the Bay area, I would definitely give this place a try. The Food is Great and the prices are Fair.

The steak was ok but the fish was awful. It tasted dry and I don't think it was the breed of fish stated on the menu. Drinks were ok. Sauce bottles used as decoration did not look clean. Not a good night

Party of 4 all having some form of steak. Always great meat with creamed spinach and Izzy's potatoes. Great price with agroupon

My host was excited to take us to this "steak place". Cute, authentic, storied restaurant. Service was great. Food was mediocre at best. The wedge with blue cheese was tasteless. The "New York Sirloin" was the toughest piece of meat I've ever encountered. Thin, tough, grizzled, overly salted... Not quite sure what kind of cut that started out as. I left quite a bit of it behind. Just not worth the effort. The sides were good. The strawberries and cream were good. If you want a steak - this is not where I would go.

Maybe we ordered the wrong cut, but steak was over cooked, tough, and had zero flavor. Very disappointed.

Izzy's Steaks and Chops has been a long time favorite of mine. I have going to this restaurant for years with my parents. My parents tend to be on the thrifty side, especially when it comes to dining out, but Izzy's is one of the very few places that they very happily pay $25-35 for an entree! I have tried many items on their menu over the years, but I keep going back to my favorite: New York Steak w/ Brandy Cream Sauce Izzy's Potatoes (basically potato gratin) Creamed Spinach (best I ever had!) Key Lime Pie A seriously good meal, and really good value I think for the money. The ambiance is fairly casual, and I enjoy sitting in the back booths...very private for a night out with friends!

Spent 5 nights in San Francisco and Izzy's happened to be around the corner from our hotel. My wife and I had two meals there and enjoyed them both very much. Both the food and the service was very good. We ate outside one evening and inside the next.....both experiences were good. On the weekends the street was blocked to traffic so no cars are passing by the dinning area which was enclosed and set up nicely.

We have enjoyed two pleasant dinners in the past couple of years at Izzy's just off of Chestnut in the Marina. Both times it was a Thursday night. But we went this past Saturday with friends. The service was uneven. A fairly pleasant waiter...but... We arrived at 6:30 and finally by 8:15 we were served our entrees. Some of that was our pace, with drinks and appetizers. But then, suddenly a yawning gap and nothing brought out. Second I hate the bait and switch on the wine. We ordered a bottle of 2016 Seghesio Zinfandel. A bottle of 2017 was presented. We asked that the waiter look again. No luck. We requested a different zinfandel....oh sorry that's out of stock. We requested a malbeck O sorry that's out of stock. But the worst of it was that when the food arrived it was cool. That means of course the waiter let it sit. Perhaps because of the busy weekend night he was overwhelmed. My prime rib was filled with sinew and quite tough. Not what we have experienced before. May stem from a need to control costs to make a certain margin? Just a guess. My companion had a cool filet mignon. The starter of calamari was particularly inept and seemed to have been prepared like popcorn in large batches and standing for sometime in pooling oil. The oddest thing came at the end. The waiter brought me a cheesecake plate. I hadn't requested it and so sent it back. The waiter brought back the cheesecake and said please accept this. So I figured he was making amends. But then we were charged for the cheesecake. On the other hand he didn't tell us he comped a bottle of Seghesio. Must have been an off night for the restaurant. We will wait for awhile before going back if we do go back. in the meantime a truly outstanding alternative is A-16 on Chestnut. A subject of future review.

19 reviews 3.0 star rating 8/29/2017 Although I have had some excellent experiences at Izzy's in the past, this evening was a disaster for me because I got a $39.95 piece of Prime Rib which was the toughest that I have ever experienced. The spinach was delicious, as always, as was the Key Lime pie. We own a winery, and I sold wine to Sam[ the owner] 18 years ago... he must have bought a corked bottle and got payback!

Very good, food, service and price. Plenty of restaurants around but this was an excellent choice. If we were here longer would definitely return.

Izzy;s Is a Classical Olde Time San Francisco Bar and Restaurant. You Sense this as Soon as You Walk in the Door to a Very Friendly Greeting. Our Waiter Fit into the Same Category--someone Who Has Been There for Many Years and Has Memories to Match. The food was excellent and more than we could eat. The price was very reasonable for San Francisco.

Booked online whilst out in San Fran which was very easy. The table was ready when we arrived and it has a very authentic feel. It reminded me very much of the old TV programme " Cheers " . Mainly steak , chops and salads on offer and we ordered a blackened Fillet and a chicken Cesar salad . House potatoes and asparagus. The portions were large , the service was excellent . Creme Brulee for desert was also very good. Couldn't fault any of it.

Comparing to other grillhouses, Izzy’s was for us nothing special and overpriced for what you get. Longer waiting times and the meat was a bit to greasy. Side dishes where good of taste.

Nice interior, good for a romantic dinner. Very nice and professional staff. Great food - what to expect more?

The sides of creamy spinach and scalloped potatoes are fantastic. Never disappointed in beef. Wine-by-glass changes and very selective and high quality. Usually very busy.

Izzy’s is a delightful steak house located in a fabulous area of SF, due to the close proximity of many hotels and restaurants in Cow Hollow. Our party of 11 had the entire top floor to ourselves and loved every minute. The food and service were wonderful, I highly recommend having a graduation dinner at Izzy’s!!

My wife noted that the decor was scattered... sort of here and there items, but that was irrelevant when eating good food. I always shave beef here, and I am always happy afterwards. Servers are there but not over-bearing. There is sort of 3 or 4 distinct areas for seating, bar, open area tables, a raised area that I haven't been to, and a front area maybe more suited for the lunch rush. I've been seated in 3 areas and always the food and the service is good. We were a couple but would be good for mature family... maybe not great for little kiddies.
Nice food & staff but extremely expensive!
Visited Izzys tonight as it was reccomended by a tour we had earlier this week. The service & food was excellent. We both had steaks and they were perfectly cooked. We were a little confused as my partner ordered a lemonade and lime and some sort of lemonade and lavender drink came to us? Once the bill arrived this lemonade was 14 dollars! Which is £11.32 in British pounds to us this is very expensive. We were pretty shocked so we didn't tip as we classed our tip to be in with the price of this lemonade! The total bill in pounds for us was £94. We didn't have a starter or a dessert and we only had 1 soft drink each! In the UK a meal this this would cost around £30 -£40. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious and the staff were lovely but its simply unaffordable for us.
