May not be the healthiest but worth the risk

By FuzzyBeesMom |

I grew up in Tokyo Japan, and I grew up eating Ramen. From authenticity, I think they are fairly close to serving true ramen. However, as you may have read in my other reviews, I unfortunately have intolerance to additives such as MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Potassium sorbate, food coloring, and the list goes on. I tend to get very upset stomach. While I enjoyed flavors in the restaurant, I suffered when I got home. Most people do not have the sensitivities as I do. So if you like Ramen, I think you would enjoy this. I mean no harm to this restaurant. However, if any of readers are sensitive to those additives, I will caution you. I understand that most soy sauce contains MSG and potassium sorbate and hard to eliminate those additives. Having said this, I miss ramen so much. Once or twice a year, I would risk getting sick but would still eat here!

Nice place.. Good choices of dishes. I like spicy food, if you do to, this place can accommodate you. The portions are huge.. prices are not cheap, but not really high either. I sat at the bar, the service was excellent..

Great ramen spot, although overrated

By Pauak |

For some reason beyond me, people is willing to sit outside for quite some time to get a table. We tried a couple of times to have dinner here and always the wait was like +30 minutes, but finally one day we got lucky and were seated in a whiff. We expected something extraordinary considering the amount of people willing to wait to eat here, but ended up being a little disappointed. The reality was that the service was average to bad, the restaurant is too small, so expect little intimacy and the food is pretty good, but not brutal. We ordered anOctopus Ball appetizer (which was served late), and a ramen bowl each. Truth is that the bowls are huge, so you may skip appetizers. I had the Tonkatsu Black, and the broth was super good, the meat tender and tasty and the noodle cooked perfectly. But in my opinion too much noodle and too little of other ingredients. Simply not that special, the thing. Prices were reasonable, though.

Best Ramen I've had yet...

I have visited quite a few Ramen restaurants, but this is by far the tastiest. From the flavorful broth, to the thick noodles this is the spot to go if you're craving authentic ramen fixed the way it's supposed to be. Centrally located in the popular Domain, most likely they'll be a waiting time as it's a hot spot for the locals, but well worth it. Extensive menu to pick and choose, or build your own.

50/50

First the positives: Nice location with outside patio area which is great for people watching. Friendly staff with speedy service and prices on target for the area. The gyoza appetizer was good as was the spicy tonkatsu. Now the not so positive. The chicken ramen was bland with thin rubbery noodles. The thicker noodles in the tonkatsu also had a slightly rubbery quality. Overall experience was good with higher marks for location and staff than food.

Pricey Ramen with Very Little Meat

We were looking for another restaurant in the area that unfortunately had closed. We saw this place and the reviews looked good so why not give it a try. We walked in during the lunch hour but we were seated right away. It seems rather busy but despite that, you won't have to wait long. First time here, I decided to just go with a basic dish of ramen with chicken. This is where the customer service seems to drop. Although the menu shows you can order this "mild, spicy or hot" we were never asked and we had to try and get our server back to make sure they would cook them the right spice. Likewise, we wanted to order an appetizer but the server took off so abruptly, we had to ask to get her to come back. We wanted the "Japanese Butter Corn" but our server told us that was "no longer on the menu" despite it actually being on the digital menu we were ordering from. Pretty odd to keep it on the menu if you aren't serving anymore. These are digital menus so it isn't as if you need to get them reprinted. Clearly our server didn't really care much about what we wanted and just randomly selected "Octopus balls" as an alternative. I have no idea why she would pick octopus balls as a substitute for the corn but it was clear she didn't want to stay another second at our table. We did ultimately settle on the Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura. For starters, there is no point in order appetizers because they bring everything out together. In fact the ramen came out first and later she brought out the shrimp. The shrimp looks nice, but that's about it. Although it's a hot dish, it comes on a cold plate and within a minute or two, the whole dish is cold and tempura is not good cold. It says "spicy" shrimp on the menu but they were not spicy at all. As for the "creamy" part, they over do it. They are drowning in some creamy, almost mayonnaise like sauce and we each had one and didn't finish the rest. My chicken ramen bowl was good. It comes out warm but not hot. Again, it goes cold fairly quickly but it was still delicious. I did order mine spicy but I would say it was more on the "mild" side. The chicken was disappointing. First, there was very little chicken. Maybe four chunks and that was it. Also, I ordered some Bok Choy to be added and this was a huge disappointment. It was fresh but for the $2.50 they charge, I would have expected more than two slices of Bok Choy. I cook at home regularly and I know Bok Choy is quite cheap so to only put two pieces when I ordered this as an addition to my dish was very disappointing. Overall, the ramen is good and for a soup/noodle dish, you get a decent meal. But if you taken into account the price ($14 per bowl) and the added cost for adding two pieces of Bok Choy, the miniscule amount of chicken... I'm sure there are better options for Ramen. I'm sure you are paying more for location than anything else.

Delicious on a cold day

By 512FoodBlog |

Ramen is one of my favorite dishes on a cold day. We had a freak cold spell come through and I had to get some ramen. I asked the server what the best thing to order was and he said the spicy vegan ramen so I added pork and had that and wow it was amazing!! The kids meal was huge- broth and noodles, rice and fried chicken and ice cream. My four year old loved it and had food leftover.

This is great ramen

The ramens was fabulous. Really a great dinner at the top of Rock Rose in the Domain. Highly recommend it.

Pretty good ramen!

After much food this week I decided to get a good bowl of ramen. Jinya did not disappoint. There are multiple options for vegan and vegetarian people. Yay! The broth was good and not too salty and the toppings pretty good. Service was extremely attentive. Overall a great experience.

Food & Happy Hour

Ramon was so good. Potstickers were the best I’ve ever had and the edamame was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit. Great happy hour spot.

Absolutely love this place

Definitely one of the best restaurants in the Domain! The food is unbelievable and it’s a really nice atmosphere. Great if you’re on business and happen to be eating alone as you can sit at the bar for dinner and feel part of it. Also great in a group environment too! It does tend to be busy so most of the times you have to wait however it’s well worth it. Extremely good value for money and the spicy chicken ramen is sublime! I was there for seven days and ate in here three times, loved it on each occasion. Keep up the great work!

Late night delight

By Dave J |

My girl got of work pretty late and asked me to find something different that we could go to in the late hours. We came across this through Maps and the pictures looked good and it was open until 1 We partly assumed that walking in at 12.15, 45 minutes before close that we’d be hurried but this was absolutely the opposite. We felt very welcome. Ben, our bartender/server greeted us and helped us choose what turned out to be super fantastic Asian food. From the minute we sat at the bar we felt welcome and he kept checking on us and engaging in real conversation (doesn’t happen much anymore from bartenders in the area, especially late in the shift) 5 out of 5 ramen, and 5 out of 5 for Ben as a host and face to the business. Awesome. Cannot wait to return.

Great wee spoy

Had dinner here with a couple of work colleagues, service was great, Ramen was great too, we had the Chicken and the Pork with a seasoned egg. Toilets left a little to be desired but didn’t detract too much from the overall experience.

I was hoping for a different experience

It was my first time there and the waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed. She did not do a good job explaining things to me. The appetizers were good. I ordered the tempura brussel sprouts and shrimp. The ramen bowl was just ok. Maybe when I go back I will order something different and see if that will help.

Great visit in Austin!

Great visit from Houston to Austin, Lauren suggested which ramen to pick out as I follow a vegan diet. It was spicy and delicious! Location is in a fun spot too.
