So, haven't been to Jaks for awhile. It's a nice place, pretty casual, kind of noisy, bar is always good and, generally the service is just fine. Salads are nice, on the large side with a reasonable range of choices. Their potato pancake are really good. Steak is steak and they do a fine job. So not particularly fancy but good solid place. Recommended.

Ok so I know that Jak's is known for their steaks and I have gotten crap from almost everyone about ordering fish at a steak house. I have to say that the Panko Crusted Halibut was excellent and their deserts are incredible as well.

Quiet, clean, friendly. Chowder had good flavor, some actual clams, but was far too salty--possibly from the bacon (should have been parboiled more?). Lettuce salad was reasonably good. Not bad prices. Very friendly and attentive (the two don't always go together) service

My family recently went for a special occasion and the experience was positive, but they have a little room to improve. The cons: One dish came out woefully undercooked. One dish was terribly overcooked. The wooden booths are not particularly comfortable, nor do they do anything to improve the look and atmosphere. I always think of plush furnishings when I think of a steak house, but Jak's feels a little bare. 2.5% surcharge for the kitchen staff? Seriously? Just raise the price of each entree by $1 and then I won't feel like the owners are the kind of people who have a problem with paying their staff well. The Pros: My filet was fantastic. Our server was friendly and professional and handled the under and over cooked dishes like a pro. She had the corrected dishes out in no time, and they were wonderful. The pace of the meal was good. We were given enough time to finish appetizers before receiving our entrees. The value was good, as Jak's includes sides with their entrees - a rarity for a steak place! I first visited their location in West Seattle and that experience did not have me excited to go back, but based on the meal in Laurelhurst, I think they've made me a fan. I'd really get behind them if they'd drop the 2.5% charge - it's not that I object to paying such a small amount, but just that it makes me question the ethics and intentions of the owners. Just pay your people well and price your menu accordingly.

We had dinner here in Sep 2016. I had crabcakes, which were good but nothing amazing. Salad was big and also good but nothing utterly special.

This was not our first visit to Jak's, many previous visits to both this location as well as the Issaquah location. However, this was our first attempt at happy hour on a Thursday night and we don't plan on repeating the experience. It felt like the Oklahoma land rush as the doors opened at 5pm and every seat in the bar was gone with 15 seconds. The hour we were there was spent defending our seats, ordering food within 5 minutes (if you want the snacks at Happy Hour prices) and having others order drinks over your shoulder the entire time. If you enjoy an audience while on a date try Jak's bar, otherwise I would recommend their brunch or dinner. They offer one of the best steak's in town, just not the best happy hour.

Nice variety in menu, generous serving size, delicious food. Stylish decor, families welcome. Prices reasonable for the serving size. If you're a senior or have a limited appetite, consider sharing.

Friday night date at Jak's. Nice place, not flashy on the outside, but clean and well appointed.. Wait staff pleasant and professional. Were well informed and made good suggestions. Nice specials. Decent prices. Good wine selection. Friendly customers. I had crab stuffed halibut and it was prepared properly. Tasty. My friend had bacon wrapped scallops and they were great. I plan to return for their prime rib some Monday.

Thank goodness for Jak's! After spending several weeks running our son down to the University of Washington for orientation, new Husky activities and marching band camp, dealing with traffic on Montlake, quick eats and exorbitant parking rates, it was nice to find a pleasant sit-down restaurant with free parking conveniently located to the U. Even better, it was wonderful finding an enjoyable restaurant with friendly, quick service and generous, delicious servings where we could spend some family time. We recommend Jak's Grill whole-heartedly.

Lovely food and great atmosphere. Very pleasant knowledgable staff. Not able to book in advance but as it is local to us that is not a problem. It is always busy every night of the week - a good recommendation for any restuarant!!

Jak's has so much going for it. Not only does it give a 10% discount to caregivers (parents, grandparents etc) of patients at Children's Hospital, but the food, atmosphere and staff are great. My husband and I ate a most wonderful meal there. His steak was perfectly cooked and my Panko crusted halibut was to die for. There are several sides from which to chose; the portions plentiful. In addition to their 10% discount, outstanding food, they have a happy hour where drinks prices are reduced and there is a happy hour menu. The half pound burger and fries to 5.99 is tough to beat. I would have to say it was one of the best burgers I have eaten in a long time. Jak's is about two blocks from the hospital, and I would recommend it to all who are in the neighborhood. Thanks to them for their support to families of kids in Seattle Children's.

Jak’s Grill Review Last night my wife and I were in the mood for a good steak, we picked Jak’s in West Seattle from on-line reviews. Man all those people must have eaten at a different restaurant. Dinner cost just over $200, which I was expecting to spend, but as far as taste I would have been better burning the money and eating the ashes. Our sever disappeared after dropping off the menus for almost 15 minutes, once she took our order and brought our wine we never saw her again until she came over to ask if we wanted desert. The food was all brought and taken away by other staff members. Never once did our server ever check in to ask if the meal was to our liking, which it was not. Our medium rare stakes were very rare; the knives for cutting the meat were more like Bowie knife with a serrated edge, very dull and extremely difficult to cut with. No butter accompanying the baked potatoes just sour cream. And by the time I hacked my way through half the steak, it was cold. These were problems which could have been addressed by a professional server who cared about giving her dinners a positive experience, but instead opted to ignore customers. We travel extensively all over the world and have had many wonderful dining experiences. Sometimes the food may not have been up to our liking but a good server can still make a relatively so-so meal a positive experience just by being friendly and helpful. Sorry to say but I cannot recommend anyone eat there who wants to enjoy a really good steak; I know we will never venture there again.

OK, so minimum wage laws are changing in Seattle. To add 2.5% to the bill for a "Kitchen Living Wage" is tacky. Businesses should pay their employees a fair living wage. But don't gouge me for it, because I will simply reduce the overall tip by that amount. Steak was OK at best

I really enjoyed the halibut, bread and the wine. The restaurant was busy and I totally the service was excellent and attentive. As my meal progressed, the service became less attentive. It probably was the busy night and maybe they were understaffed. Anyway, I enjoyed my meal and would return if I were in the neighborhood.

Wife and I discovered Jak's last year and have been a fan since. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food is just terrific, and an overall terrific experience nearly every time. While their specialty are steaks (their filet mignon is a must try for steak fans), I had their halibut previously and that is top notch, too. One thing to know beforehand for the frugal out there: the food on the menu is a little pricey. However, once your order arrives, you'll see why with the size of the food portions and preparation the menu price- and it's definitely worth it :) If I had to put any sort of negative criticism here, I'd say the waiter/staff fell behind on one visit; but, it was during the peak dinner time rush and our waiter was a senior citizen who seemed behind on all his tables in our area. However, the other time we came during peak dinner hours our waitress was great, personable, and made for a great dining experience.

We visited with friends who live in the area, 4 adults and 3 kids under 5. The kids all loved the meals- as did we. I had the sirloin salad, and was the perfect way to end a great vacation.

My son and I met my relatives for a quiet group dinner on Sunday night and were pleased with our dishes. Perhaps this is all relative to the overpriced food I am used to where I live ( Bay Area), but this meal seemed to be a good value for the price compared to back home. My crusted halibut was flavorful and tender, with a huge portion of garlic mash potatoes which were tasty and steamed vegetables that were just right in texture. The Jak burger was a good size and came with a ton of fries. My relative subbed out sweet potato fries which were yummy. Our attendant was very friendly, polite and attentive. The only thing that was out of sorts was the bread, a little tough and too sour. Overall, a good meal and we'd come back.

Service great I was visiting my boys Salad limp iceberg couldn't eat one loaf of old bread for 5 of us my steak was so tough I took 2 bites and quit my boys were so proud to take me out I didn't complain Since I have taken time please responsed

The food although expensive came in large portions and tasted amazing. The servers were kind and involved. The atmosphere of the place is fun. Great for good conversations. I loved their grilled chicken. Can't wait to try to skewers.

We found this charming restuarant last weekend when we were in Seattle for a wedding. We samped seafood - the special was halibut with tasty fresh fruit sauce, our son had sumptuous shrimp and our daughter had one of the best burgers she had tasted. We all shared with our 10 month old grand daughter who loved all the tastes presented to her at her high chair.

I was toying with the idea of going to the Metropolitan Grill in downtown Seattle for a good steak dinner, but I could not get past those crazy prices. Thankfully, I kept researching and Jak's came up on my radar. One tasty and tender filet mignon oscar style later, I walked out of there satisfied, and for nearly half the price. Went to the Jak's on California Avenue, and the little neighborhood it was in was fun and vibrant on a Friday night, and the vibe inside Jak's was buzzing as well. I'm not knocking the Met, because since I didn't go, I don't know what I missed, except I would have liked to have some Bananas Foster tableside, and you don't get that at Jak's. But overall, Jak's was a great steak dinner for the price and I'd go there again for sure.

Stopped by Jak's Grill near Seattle Children's hospital for dinner and had a very nice dinner. The Copper River Salmon was outstanding, good garlic mashed potatoes. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Nice wine and beer selection as well.

absolutely love this place! Fantastic steaks.

I had lunch here. They have a decent selection of brews on tap, excellent food, and superb service. Very elegant and friendly place to have a meal in Seattle.

I don't know what is wrong with this location. It's always been really sub-par. You order medium, it comes out rare. You order rare, it comes out well done. The waitstaff ignores you, the place is always empty. Compared to the West Seattle Jak's, where everything is always delicious .... I don't know why the owners never did anything about the glaring issues. At any rate the place is closing in a few days. Good riddance.

Over rated place!!! It's old inside, service is terrible but they now how to charge you. If you will charge close to $50 per plate, make the restaurant appropriate to it. Place two orders and both wrong. Steak I had was the worst steak I ever had in my life and trust me, I go to nice restaurants all the time, it’s my hobby. Waiter can’t even remember what we ordered. And it’s not just me saying this, it’s my friends also. I will never recommend this place to no one. It is as equally bad as the Metropolitan in Seattle. One suggestion to these owners: go to Europe and look at the average restaurant there. I guarantee you it will be the best looking you have seen and I'm not talking about the good ones. The only think they know how to do is charge people a lot of money and no experience. If I could, I would not even give a one star.

I was very disappointed with the indifferent service. The older gentleman at the table next to me expressed his displeasure to his server, too. I selected the clam chowder as the side dish for my steak sandwich and I was unhappy that no mention of bacon was included on the menu. I brought it to the server's attention and he all he did was shrug. The sandwich description said it was sliced steak, but the only slice was cutting the sandwich in half, which meant that since there was gristle running through the entire length of the sandwich, I had to use my fingers to help tear off a bite. I had to dismantle the sandwich, slice it all up with a steak knife and then put it back together again. Hardly a relaxing meal. The meat was tasty, it was just more of an effort than I expect a sandwich to be.

One of my favorite spots. Excellent burgers.

No reservations needed, first come first serve. Great waiter and great atmosphere. We had 4 steaks, 2 were good and 2 were mediocre at best, very sinuous. Sauces were just OK. The vegetables were super. The garlic mashed potatoes to die for. The wine choices were excellent. If steak is their specialty, and we anticipated great steak, but we were very disappointed. There was no value in the price of the steak. We won't be back.

. Rather good meat but nothing new in the dishes. just on the edge of pricey, but quality has a price and portions are genrous. So... think about what you want. Service was efficient but wait at the door was not so pleasant. Find a way to avoid congestion there....

We took the family to Jak's Grill on a rainy weeknight when visiting Seattle. We had to wait a bit but the staff took special care that our 3 year old was entertained while the adults started to "relax" and enjoy the evening. Each of our meals were special, well prepared and presented. The wait staff were very attentive but not over hovering. We truly enjoyed the evening and I recommend Jak's.

The steaks at Jak's are outstanding. The portions are huge. Two of us shared a dinner and we did not go away hungry. Our New York steak was cooked perfectly. The service is attentive. What more could you ask of a restaurant? Jak's does not take reservations. Plan to go early or you will have to wait.

I am always looking for a great steak restaurant and Jak's Grill fits that category. But, not only is it a great Steakhouse, it has very reasonable prices for a Steakhouse of it's quality. I had the bone-in ribeye, which to me is always one of the most flavorful steaks there is. It, including a salad, baked potato and veggies was only $38. Go to Capital Grill and the same steak would have been at least $45 just for the steak. Go to The Metropolitan Grill and it probably would have been over $50. My son had the hamburger and it was great also.

There is nothing bad served at Jak's! When you want to return to the same restaurant on a short vaction in a city like Seattle with many restaurants to choose from you know it's good! During the week there is always a line beginning at 4:00pm to get into the bar for Happy Hour because the food and drinks are cheap with the same great quality of taste.

We were in the area visiting our son and looking for a good steak. The staff was incredibly attentive and the food was wonderful. I went with Moroccan spice steak bites and am totally going to see if I can figure out what the combination of spices was!

We chose Jak's Grill wanting a good steak but not wanting to spend over $100. We succeeded in getting both but I wasn't necessarily impressed. The wait staff was more interested in chatting with each other then waiting on the patrons. We sat at our table without a sign of a waitress for about 10-15 minutes until the woman who sat us went up to the group of them all talking and told them to come over by us. For having $30-$40 dollar steaks on the menu, I expected better service. As for the food, my only complaint is really with the salads. The lettuce was brown and withered. The spinach artichoke dip was great and our steaks were good but not outstanding, although they were very thick cut and well cooked. The sauce they put on the top is also very good, the potatoes were great and had fresh veggies. Overall, I thought it was a nice dinner but it was a little over priced and we were very disappointed with the staff. I could go to the fresh market down the road from my house and get a steak of the very same quality. I was expecting much more from them given their good reviews and reputation.

My friend and I met for lunch here two weeks ago. The restaurant was quite crowded at 1:00. We were seated right away, but we waited a long time for even water. Our meal arrived about an hour later. It was perfectly prepared and we enjoyed our meals, but then, in an almost empty restaurant, and after our plates were cleared, it still took more than 15 minutes to get our check. We arranged to come again this week to try different entrees. Our service was even worse. We'd hoped for better because there were only a few tables occupied, and it was a different server. My friend's steak was overdone, and I didn't realize the roast beef didn't come rare. I expressed my disappointment, but the server said that's the way it comes. I asked for horseradish thinking that might help. I took a bite, but it was way too dry. I tried to get her attention to remind her about the horseradish, but she was busy at the bar. My friend was making headway with her salad, and I still hadn't gotten the horseradish, so I went to the bar to return the sandwich and asked for a different sandwich. Which showed up fairly quickly. It wasn't rare, but it was at least medium rare. I asked for horseradish again. After a few minutes, I had to go to the bar to get it. We were almost at the end of the meal when I called over the server to ask her for the tea that my friend had ordered before he meal. She was apologetic, but it was still disappointing. Then she brought the bill when we were almost done, without even asking if we wanted dessert. I'm so glad this restaurant doesn't automatically charge a 20% tip. I would have had to talk to the manager. We're not coming back.

we loved Jak's, loved the atmosphere and it was kid friendly, our waiter was very attentive, we loved the food, our meat was cooked to perfection and loved the steak fries..will go back when we visit Seattle again

We had six in our party, and despite being in a booth, we were not crowded. We were there for a friends get-together brunch. Loved the Baja scramble, which had chorizo, avocado, cheese, fresh pico de gallo - so delish! The potatoes were wonderful as well.

Went early on a Friday night, great start by waiter Bill, my large(Jak's) filet was perfect balance of flavor and spice. My wife's salmon was THE best ever!!!! We have dined at this location a few times over the years (it's about a 20 minute drive) but after this meal, we really need to frequent more and more....We love the vibe, as it was football season, we could see the TV in the bar area and stayed up to date with the current game. Easily ignored if you want a romantic evening. We will be back sooner rather than later!! Thx

Part of the Jak’s family, this is their steakhouse out on 45th near Sand Point in Seattle. The same great steaks but with the inclusion of baked potatoes! (See my other Jak’s Alehouse review). Wine selection is great, and they also offer very reasonable corkage. They have amazingly friendly staff, we never have to wait or feel rushed either! Ask for Becca, she’s always so friendly, we love her!

Whethwe it is for a fabulous burger or for a juicy steak, or a beautiful halibut or salmon, we alzways have a fabulous donner at Jack’s Grill. The place is packed early for a great happy hour, but we always find a seat after 8:00 pm. The staff is friendly and efficient. The noise level is often close to unbearable, especially during happy hour, but the booths are intimate (not available for Happy Hour) and we find our overall experience is quite favorable.

Wow....customer experience FAIL...Quarterly a set of friends (3) get together for drinks and maybe a few appetizers and we have traditionally met at Jak's. Yesterday we had an unreal experience where the hostess refused to seat us unless we ordered dinner. It was 5pm and they just opened. Their bar area is terrible and we only wanted to have a few drinks and appetizers. Finally we gave in and sat down and ordered salads/burger. The hostess claimed this was policy....there was only one other table seated in the entire place when we sat down. She was quite frankly pretty snotty about it. Our server was Haley and she did a great job and had no idea how we had been treated by the hostess. She was properly tipped for her service. I would never make the server pay for the sins of the front of the restaurant. Glad that Jak's thinks they have enough customers that they can be this arrogant and rude. Because this group of loyal customers will never be back and I will make sure that I let everyone know about our experience.

Funny thing happened. Two waiters with order pads and pencils ready to take our order. The trainee should have been announced. Good hamburger but with only one ring of an onion slice. I asked for a onion slice and was brought one more ring. If you get 2 slices of tomato why not 1 slice of onion? The order of onion rings came when we had almost finished our burgers. Poor timing in the kitchen. Jak's need to ramp up their chefs training.

Good Steak, Reasonable Prices. The only bad part is they don't take reservations. I'd recommend going on a weekday because the wait can be up to 2 hours.

no frills steakhouse...always consistent

Great for a fancy night out. The wait can be quite long, but worth it. Great drinks and steak. For a slightly less pricey option, go with the salad topped with steak. Mmm...

I am an utter addict to great prime rib and so, when in Seattle this week, instead of making my usual pilgrimage to Daniel's Broiler on Lake Union, I noted that Monday's were prime rib special nights at Jak's. Off I went with wife and two daughters. Of course I ordered the prime rib, while one daughter had a New York and another (who is vegetarian) had the veggie skewers. My wife had delicious skewers of steak. All were excellently cooked and even the prime rib came fairly rare which is not always easy to get. The server was a super guy who was both witty and generally efficient (though he completely forgot the decaf we ordered with dessert). I would just mention that the summer squash in my daughters veggie skewers was quite bitter. This can happen. As for the meat, the other daughter and I are the frequent Daniel's patrons. We both noted that by some scoring scale posted on the wall at Jak's, they had score a bit higher than Daniel's. Not, however, by our personal prefs. My daughter said her New York was good but not memorable. And my feeling was the same about the prime rib with my major complaint being something that others might well not agree with me about - the herbs crust on the beef was too strong to my taste overpowering what can be very delicate flavours in beef. Every bite I took I was hit with the herbal taste more than core roast beef flavour. I also had a wedge salad which was excellent. We ended with two desserts that were very good - a creme brule and a chocolate cake (whose name there I do not remember). All in all we really liked Jak's but must repeat that Daniel's broiler is where we'd go if we had only one steak/prime rib dinner to do while in Seattle.

A great no-frills steak restaurant

Had a great visit to Jaks this evening! My wife had been working a job fair at UW and we need a place to grab a bite and drink to avoid traffic. We sat at the bar and Kirk was a great bartender! I had a manhattan w Woodinville's rye and the prawns w chipotle creama, excellent! It was popular place with good staff! I would recommend Jaks!

Seattle has some great steak houses - the Met Grill, Capital Grille, Ruth's Chris - all good, all very expensive, very noisy and not good for kids. All kind of a big deal - so we have Jaks, also very, very good, also very noisy, also very crowded but way, way more affordable and perfectly fine for kids. Way less pretentious, you can actually drive and park your car. The service is great - prompt, courteous, friendly and they know their menu. The bar is good and quick so your server brings you your well prepared drink as you are reviewing the menu. The food is pretty much the standard and excellent steak house favorites. I have never had a bad meal at this place and our adult children choose this place for their lets dine out treat.

We dined at Jak's in Laurelhurst last night and had a thoroughly wonderful experience from start to finish. We started with an Old Fashioned and they were simply wonderful, one of the best we've ever had! Believe me, we know our Old Fashioned's! We moved on the the Crab Artichoke Dip, that was filled with crab and served with warm flat bread. Just darned yummy!! My husband and I shared the Prime Porterhouse which was cooked to perfection and tender as butter. It was perfect for two people. Our daughter had the NY steak sandwich, wow, it was wonderful. Every dinner comes with a salad of choice, potato ( we loved the potato pancake) and fresh steamed veggies. Oh yes, and warm, delicious sourdough bread and butter. We finished off our dinner with a warm coconut, chocolate chip cookie that was baked in an iron skillet and served with ice cream. Like I said, it was wonderful. The management and wait staff were friendly and attentive. Try it, you'll see for yourself!

I've had some pretty amazing steak in Nebraska and that same quality was found here at Jak's. My husband took me there for a celebratory dinner and I got the "petite-sized" top sirloin and for $24.95 I got a salad, bread, garlic mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and what appeared to be a 10 oz steak. Plenty left over for the next day and sooo delicious. It was so tender and juicy. If you're craving some red meat without the Ruth's Chris price tag--head here.

We ate at Jak's for the last time last night. It was awful from start to finish. We keep trying this place because it is popular and much less expensive than other steak restaurants in town but i guess you get what you pay for. The service was great however the food was terrible. Our salad was full of unripe fruit...we sent it back. The baked potato was mushy and tasteless like it had been sitting in a steam table all day. How do you screw up a baked potato? We split a ribeye steak and only ate a couple bites each. It was chewy and poorly cooked. It seems the kitchen staff just dosen't care anymore. Go to the Met. Much better.

Good solid steakhouse at a very attractive price. I do prefer the location on California in West Seattle however.

With its dark paneling, leather booths, and large bar, Jak’s is almost a throwback to earlier times. Although the menu highlights steaks, anything from the grill is perfectly portioned, seasoned, and prepared. Even the burger is fabulous. Your order includes salad, potato and vegetable, which is another throwback to earlier times. This is a high-end restaurant with prices to match, but worth it. Unlike other reviewers, we had excellent service.

When we arrived we had to wait for a table. After a few minutes we were ushered to the back of the restaurant to wait. Other couples were allowed to wait in the front of the restaurant. We waited approximately 10 minutes and then were seated in a back area of the restaurant. I did notice other tables were available near windows, no luck there for us. The hostess was not very friendly or didn't seem to care much. Anyway the waitress was sweet and very accommodating. The food was ok and price was reasonable. From out of state so don't think we would go back. First impressions are sometimes a killer.

We had lunch and drinks at this neighborhood steakhouse. The french dip sandwich and burger were very good. The servers were both nice and professional. The setting and music are from another era. Prices are fair for the quality you get. We loved it.

Many of the menu items are a bit on the pricey side, but we found exactly what we wanted and didn't drop a bunch. Their burger looked great, and I had a wedge salad with salmon that was perfect for my appetite du jour. The concierge at Talaris spoke very highly of it as well. The service was excellent. We got there early (5:30ish) and it was fortunate that we did, as it was filling up shortly afterward.

I've only had dinner here once (and wasn't overly impressed). Breakfast, on the other hand, is amazing! Best biscuits and gravy this side of the mountains. Steak hash is my favorite (light on the gravy, otherwise it is a little too sweet). No stop is complete without an order of the Jaks pancakes (hashbrown-ish type concoctions that are to-die for!).

We came here for our anniversary dinner because my husband wanted a nice steak. We were seated on the East wall, cozy I suppose but they wooden seat benches were really uncomfortable & my back was hurting by the time we left from sitting there. The other customers around us were so close and SO loud so it made it really hard to be romantic. I guess I just assumed with prices like that it would be a little bit more intimate, more fancy and less children. it almost felt like we were at a regular chain restaurant. The food was however good and the server was nice, but it really lacked luster for an anniversary dinner place.

We like to go to Jak's after work. They have really good appetizers, large portions that are delicious, at reasonable prices. They open at 5pm. You can only participate in happy hour in the bar which is pretty small so get there early. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because during dinner, it is so loud you can't really have a comfortable conversation. The good news is their dinners are very good so that's why it's packed. It is a steak house and they have really good meat and nice salads.

A really great brunch. We love coming here for dinner celebrating a special occasion but they also have a great local, neighborhood feel. All locations are great. We decided to try out the brunch, and if you come during their brunch happy hour, it's not packed - yay! They don't take reservations so it's always a gamble but they have a small bar to wait in if necessary. Definitely suggest the melt and 509 casserole (comes with biscuits and gravy!)

Excellent all the way around. They don't take reservations - make sure to arrive early due to high demand

Went here with family, everyone ordered some variation of steak and everyone left full and satisfied. Portions are nice and big, no need for an appetizer. The skewers with gorgonzola, Moroccan spices and sundried tomato were to die for. Highly recommended!

brilliant little grill. family orientated and food great. very casual dinning and all round would recommend to others.

Very good steak at very good prices.

It can get busy however I love the ambience and the food is fantastic. One of my favorite steaks in Seattle. If you find yourself here for lunch, the burger is also top notch.

Staying at lovely Talaris (Tell AIR is)Conference Center, we wanted a walking distance pub.Jaks Grill is a quick walk away. It's a deeply meat centric steakhouse .For me,a non meaty,it was a challenge easily solved.Look at the sides.Their crab cakes are house made and delicious. At Sunday brunch I combined them with fruit salad. At dinner I had house made latkes and the fresh veggies, along with the delicious crab cakes.Service was varied. Our brunch waiter was warm and charismatic. The evening staff was more cryptic, but warmed over time.I enjoyed a $7.00 Viongnier,my husband inhaled their microbrewery beer.It all worked out well.Choose the booth in the corner by the street to have quieter conversation.Cheers.

Petite Felit Mignon..... nuff said!

We can't afford to go out very often, but when we do, we aren't always happy with the food and service. Not the case with Jak's. It is awesome. The salmon dinner was the best I've had in months and my husband enjoyed the Monday night prime rib. Great night out and well worth the money.

we were visiting in Seattle and stopped in for a lunch today Feb 1, and was really surprise by the food! Hamburger was so tasty, the beef was cooked and seasoned just right. Friday is clam chowder day but we had their great French Onion soup and our waitress Amanda was super nice!

We came here for dinner and I tried the lobster mac and cheese. It was good, but not memorable. My husband had the crab cakes and they were quite good. I also had a small spinach salad which was fine. The service was good. The only disappointing aspect was that I asked for a to-go box for my left over salad, but the waiter never returned with it.

This American grill has quite an intimate ambiance and would be great for romantic dinners for couples. The menu is very good and they have some nice specials too. I started with the Grilled Prawn appetiser and this was awesome, the best part of my meal but not a cheap appetiser at $23. I then had the Jak's New York Strip which came with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. For a steak that cost $45, (before tax), it was a bit disappointing as it was a little hard and chewy and I'd expect at $45 steak to be melt in your mouth tender. The flavour was good though and it was cooked to my liking. All in all my 2 course meal was very good but at US$77 with tax and no drinks it's not a cheap place to eat. I would visit again though and I would recommend it.

For my son's 19th birthday he wanted to go to a steakhouse. My wife and I took him and two of his friends from UW. The restaurant does not take reservations. Our party of five arrived shortly before 7:00 p.m. on a Thursday evening. We were told it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait. We were seated around 7:40 in a booth designed for four people with a chair placed at the end of the table in the aisle. There was plenty of space and the person in the chair only was bumped once or twice during the meal. We were greeted promptly by the waiter. My son thought he was "classy". He did give excellent service. He was efficient, friendly, and helpful. The menu is as one would expect for a steakhouse. Mostly beef offerings with lobster tail and other options available. The prices are relatively expensive for a casual restaurant like this but not out of line considering the quality and quantity of food served. My son and I had the Prime Sirloin. It was well prepared. The vegetables were excellent. The mashed potatoes were nothing special. The salad with bleu cheese dressing was also very good with nice fresh lettuce. I had the Gorgonzola cream Bechamel sauce with my steak. I thought that was a worthwhile addition. My wife and one of the other young men had "the skewers". My wife says it was "super good". Reasonably priced. It was so much food that she shared some of hers with the other college boy. The fifth member of our party got the "bourbon chop". He appeared to enjoy it as his plate was cleaned. For dessert my wife and I shared the chocolate cake dessert, Loving Spoonful. It was wonderful. My son has his own serving of the same thing and declared that it was excellent. The other two young men had the creme brulee. The appeared to enjoy it. The one negative comment about our evening was the atmosphere. There is a bar in the corner of the dining room. As the evening passed the crowd at the bar grew. It seemed to grow quite a bit after the nearby UW basketball game ended. With the growth of the crowd the volume multiplied. By the end of the evening it was impossible to have a conversation at our table without yelling. No one at the bar was being unreasonably loud, it is just not a very good arrangement if one is looking for an intimate evening. That was OK for our group of young college students and two parents. It probably wouldn't be quite so good for a couple looking for a romantic evening.

No reservations taken so first come first served. Waited in the bar with a hand crafted Manhattan with others who were waiting on a table. A bit noisy to have a conversation but the wait wasn't long for a Saturday night. Fabulous wine choices but disappointed at the champagne choices. Food was good not spectacular. I must suggest the Brussels sprouts. Wow, wow. Items were all carte so we shared. The service was good not over the top as I have had in other steak houses in Seattle metropolitan area.

the BEST bang for your buck. when selecting your potato, ask for UFO - potato pancake and garlic mashed, the best of both worlds!

We go to Jak's on a regular basis. There are three in the area: Sand Point Way, Issaquah, and West Seattle (we live in West Seattle). Jak's steaks are always (and I mean always) perfectly prepared. The best baked potato imaginable. Perfect bleu cheese dressing (for the salad). Even the veggies they serve with their entrees are always perfect. This isn't the cheapest place to eat, but given the quality and amount of food (there is always enough for me to take home for a secondary meal) it really is a deal. Two drawbacks: 1) Dessert selections are sparse. BUT - we have never wanted for dessert, being so full of steak and potatoes as we are. 2) Jak's does not accept reservations, so you need to either be willing to stand in line or go at an irregular dining time (like 5:30). They also have an excellent brunch - almost never a wait on Saturday mornings for that. Go Jaks!

Summary - It's a steak joint. It's o.k. but nothing special. The prices aren't high for steak but are high for the value received. The server is good and the noise level can quickly get to ear splitting. Food - This is a steak house in the 1950's style. We went recently and I had the Filet mignon. The good news is that the meat was buttery and cooked exactly as I had asked (medium rare). The bad news is that the meat was largely flavorless. I recognize that Filet mignon is tricky because it's not the tastiest cut and so need good use of extra flavoring. But there really wasn't any. So it ended up tasting like buttery nothingness. The side of salad was generous but was just leaves and not much else. The vegetables were chunks of carrot and broccoli with nothing interesting to say for themselves. They were just blanched and served. Even the bread, usually an easy crowd pleaser, was fairly tasteless (but at least gave us something to munch on while we waited for our food). I had a baked potato as a side and that was, well, a baked potato. No particular interesting toppings or treatment to give it pizzaz. But hey, it was still a properly cooked baked potato and I always find that comforting. Service - Excellent. Attentive and friendly. Ambiance - This is mixed. The interior feels like an updated steak joint with lots of wood. It's moderately noisy when mostly empty and head ache inducing/conversation destroying noisy when full. Value - Not particularly good. A decent cut of Filet mignon cost around $45 and given how little taste it (and the sides) had I don't think it's worth it. Reservations - None. So make sure to call ahead.

There are a lot of steak houses around but Jak's has got to be one of the top places to visit. There are three locations and I have tried but one so far. Besides GREAT steaks their wait staff are among the best. Full bar and good selection of IPA's ( my personal favorite ). I have tried other items on the menu and have nothing but good reviews of their menu.

The only downfall is that they dont take reservations, so on a Saturday night if can be pretty busy. The steak is 10 times better than the overpriced steak at the MET and the service is as well. I have had the veggie options as well and they were fabulous tasting. The west seattle location is in a great location and the servers were great as well.

My wife and I ate here recently. There was a 20 minute wait when we arrived. We were able to wait in a back room and watch a Mariners game on a nice TV. A waiter took our drink order and we sipped our beers until our table was ready. I had a steak while my wife had a hamburger. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The steak seemed a bit pricy for its size and quality (at least for our budget) but the portions of potatoes and vegetables were generous. Very good overall. BTW, if you are an artist, check out the pastel chalk drawings of the fish and wine bottles on the menu boards. They are amazing!

Enjoyed lunch at Jak's. They are known for steak. A few of my colleagues had the Prime Rib dip which they really enjoyed. I went with the salmon which was also very good. I also went with the potato pancakes which had some fish mixed in which were very good. Nice. would come here again

I have been to Jak's three times over the last few months and I am very impressed with not only the quality of the food for the price but each time our server has been outstanding! I had the New York steak each time and feel for the price and what you get with the entree the value is very good. BUT.... In the food services industry today, the days of excellent service are lacking. Way to go Jak's for being consistent!!

We raise money and bring toys to Seattle Children's Hospital three times a year. When we deliver them we have gone to eat at Jak's Grill. Last night two of the six of us got there on time and the wait staff would not seat them until we all showed up. The place was 20% filled. So then they asked if just the two can be seated and then would figure out the other four when they arrived. The manager came out and said no! I can't believe they didnt want our service. So we crossed the street to Varlamos across the street. They were super busy but we had the BEST service.

We've eaten at Jak's several times over the years. It had been awhile since our last meal and neither my wife nor I could remember why we hadn't been back, so we decided to get reacquainted. When I think of a great steak house, I think great cuts of meat expertly prepared, piping hot baked potatoes with lots of butter, sour cream, chives and real bacon, and super fresh very cold salads. With those criteria in mind, based on tonight's dinners, Jak's just doesn't measure up. The salads were no better than middle of the road. Lettuce was a little soft and the salad wasn't very interesting. The house dressing was pretty good and thankfully the salad wasn't over dressed. My wife had the panko parmesan halibut, and while the fish was fresh, it was a bit overcooked, an unpardonable sin when it comes to seafood in Seattle. I opted for the skewers (a couple of brochettes of filet and new york) and there was plenty of steak, but that's where the good news ends. All of the cubes were dry and pretty tasteless. The spicing and sauce didn't do much, at least not for me. The baked spuds were no more than average. Warm, but not hot. And only sour cream and butter for toppings. Jak's prices are on the higher end of the scale, but not worth it in our opinion. As we were standing up to leave I told my wife that I now remember why we hadn't gone back to Jak's more often. Seattle has too many really good restaurants, so even though Jak's is only a few miles away, we won't be back.

This was my second visit to jacks and I forgot just how much food There was to eat. I ordered the Skewers and was worried that I would have just a little half stake on a stick. Regardless I ordered it and was happy. As a table we had onion rings as an appetiser which where beautifully cooked with a fantastic ranch dip. Then came the salad and some freshly made bread. Very tasty, and filling. So by this point I'm pretty much stuffed and then my skewers come for my entree with a side of mashed potatoes and they are amazing! The stake is cooked beautifully covered in a Moroccan spice and it's it's to die for. Unfortunately I couldn't finish it all at the time, but I can confirm it tasted almost as good the next day. A great place to go for s great stake.

My wife and I really enjoyed our meal. Seating was immediate, which was nice. The price was a little high, but it was worth the splurge. Unfortunately, when we returned to our car, we discovered a nasty ding in the door. Next time, we'll probably find a different place to park--but we'd come back to Jak's next time we're in Seattle.

The meal was wonderful. People had steaks, crawfish, caviar, bread, salads, oysters, salmon, scallops, shrimp, bread, red and white wines. Many different kinds of deserts. The service was excellent all of the people were polite and very efficient the food was at the right temperature. We had a wonderful table with lots of room for our party. It was a wonderful evening.

Great Steaks!!! We loved Jak's when we lived in Seattle, by far my favorite steak place in the PNW!!

First visited this place for a weekend brunch nearly 15 years ago and have been back periodically since then. Went again today during a visit to Seattle and am happy to say that neither the food nor service disappointed. A special shout-out to our server, Becca, for exceptionally friendly and efficient service. We'll be back!

Great place to eat and out of the main bustle of the U district. Wonderful food: huge breakfasts and great BBQ. Plenty of wine and beer choices. Attentive, helpful staff and nice setting. Great for meeting with family or friends.

We had a very attentive, friendly and professional waitress. Our entrees, however, were very disappointing. Our salads were good and the potato pancake that came with the entre was good. But the rest was just not that great. My husband had the braised spareribs, which were very fatty and I had a steak which lacked flavor and a pleasing texture. And the prices were high, especially for a casual neighborhood restaurant. The portions were generous, however. Initially it was very noisy, but after some of the bar crowd left it was better. The two of us racked up a tab of $105 with only one glass of wine and one beer. There was also an added 2% gratuity charge for the kitchen staff, and of course we left a nice tip for our waitress.

Our first trip here after moving to Seattle. What a treat. Let’s start with Drew our server, he was outstanding. Our cocktails were excellent and then we started with a mixed green salad. The best was next. The petite fillet done perfectly with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The next item was the pan of crusted halibut with a baked potato. All I can say is wow. We will be back for sure.

Jak's has a good location close to University and ample parking. My rib steak was done perfectly and had good flavor. It's a good value because it comes with sides. Most steakhouses have everything al a carte. My dining companion had the sirloin and it was good too.

This place really has the feel that you would expect from a bar and grill. The bartenders are knowledgeable, have a good stock and make some creative drinks. Wine list as decent as is the beef and accompanying sauces and sides. Reasonable priced tag as well. I'd recommend this place.

We had dinner there on a Friday night. They do not take reservations, but we were able to get a table even though it was fairly busy. The service was professional and I was impressed that even though our waitress did not bring some of the food, the waitress who did knew who was getting what and didn't have to ask us where each dish belonged. My steak was tender and nicely done. The atmosphere is casual and the place is very noisy. The front of the restaurant is underwhelming from an architectural point of view and is one of the reasons we never tried it in spite of living fairly close. But inside is fine. The prices tend toward the upper end for steak.

We were recommended to try this restaurant and I am so glad we did. From the outside we wondered what we had let ourselves in for, but once inside how deceiving it was. I could not find fault with anything. From being shown our table, to the server who had all the time in the world to give us a complete run down on everything including by the way the menu. He brought our drinks then gave us time to decide what to have. We both had steaks, (which were preceded by a salad), and the steaks were cooked just as we asked for, delicious, infact the whole meal was just perfect. It is not often you find such a good restaurant and I was in two minds about sharing this with other people or just keeping it to myself, but hey try it and you will be glad you did. Just an after thought, the sign of a good restaurant is often the restroom. Jak's is 5 star, sparkling clean. Well done Jak's

Looking for a last minute steakhouse, we came across Jak's. Its not inexpensive, but it was cheaper than the $50 entrees in Bellevue. The food was good and the portions were large. Our party enjoyed steaks, chicken and shrimp. All were very good. The service was very good; professional and attentive. Our server treated us to a piece of cake when he realized there was a birthday in our group.

I've been to Jak's a bunch, generally I'll get a steak or burger for lunch but they offered a jaeger schnitzel this Saturday night, which I'm a sucker for, so I went all in. Sat at the bar. Excellent breading and meat, the mushroom gravy was superb as was the spaetzle & red cabbage. As is generally the case, the portions were quite large and I totally over ate, I had to finish the schnitzel but couldn't finish the spaetzle and cabbage though it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. I always like what I get here but I think it speaks volumes that they offered such a good German dish, the whole plate was spot on for flavor. Great way to watch the WSU/Oregon game finish out. The pre meal bread and butter was also good and good for sopping some of the gravy. The salad was a bit of a let down, just mixed greens, nothing special there which I think is a bit of anomaly. Still, this meal was sooo good and totally hit the spot. Highly recommend you get a little Octoberfest treat at Jak's!

We were there the first weekend of July. Met up with family from California. My uncle is the pickiest person I know! Complains about EVERYTHING! He absolutely loved it! And so did the rest of us! Every dish was perfect! And our waitress was perfect as well! She was super cute too! 😉

Took my mother to breakfast. Omelette's had HUGE chunks of onion and veggies. Who expects stir fry in their omelette? While portions were large, taste was mediocre. We ordered a side of potato pancakes as they were only offered on the sides menu. Arrived plain with no applesauce or sour cream. We were the charged additional for something that should be served with potato pancakes. That is like charging for syrup and butter when you order pancakes. The surcharge is ridiculous! Pay your employees a decent wage and charge on the menu accordingly.

I have made Jak's a priority for a steak dinner for several years. I have dined at all three (3) locations. The last couple of visits have been at the Sandpoint location. The food has arrived cold, bland and caused us to question ever coming back. Too bad, because when Jak's is on its game, the quality and value has been terrific. Last night, my son's steak was nearly raw, my fries were cold and greasy, and my wife did not even remotely consider her steak flavorful. Too much money for so little payback lately. The service has always been excellent. Simply put, the kitchen needs to be revitalized. The kitchen staff needs to do more than just show up to retain customers, even repeat customers like my family.

Jak's has 3 locations (that I know of, anyway) and I've tried the one in West Seattle and the one near U-Village many times. The food and service are consistently good, though as mentioned by other reviewers, the lack of reservations can make weekend dining tough on a schedule. I usually try to go early or on weeknights. The filet is my favorite--always perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, well-seasoned. The price is right, as it includes salad and sides, whereas all the downtown steakhouses are pricey and a la cart for everything. Portions are generous--the UFO potato option is the best. Jak's potato pancakes are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, but their mashed potatoes can't be missed, either--hence, the UFO duo! Many people choose this option. Salads are crisp and fresh, and there is a decent wine list. Daily specials are available, and the regular menu provides a good number of choices, though the menu is definitely meat-centric! I highly recommend Jak's; it is one of my favorites!

Locals invited us to try this place. It was very good. Nice service and very tasty food. The service was good, but they were quite busy. The food came a bit slow but not so bad. We all loved the dishes. Pricy but worth it. Parking was available behind the building.

Jak's is a great place to eat. We go quite often with our kids that live in the area and absolutely everything we have had to eat has been delicious! And the staff is very helpful and friendly.

My husband especially likes this place. It's a nice steak house that also has great seafood. It's within very close walking distance of Talaris, the hotel we stayed at and is right across the street from University Village.

Came here with a friend for the first time for lunch. A great looking menu... Sort of hard to chose. I opted for the chicken wrap with a side of Greek salad, friend opted for chicken Caesar. Both were delish!! Service was good. Place, at least for lunch. Be advised is a bit pricey... Nearly $50 for lunch with 1 soda...

I would NOT go back to this restaurant, given the choice. Sure, I don't eat steak, but I've been to other steak restaurants where this isn't a problem. Here I was completely unimpressed. We were a party of 7. 6 of us eating steak. The steak eaters enjoyed themselves. I did not. I ordered the grilled chicken, which was listed as "two chicken breasts" grilled with lemon juice. It came with a salad - I asked for the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. My drink was an Old fashioned. The drink tasted poorly mixed, as though the bar didn't know how to make it. It included large pieces of or orange peel (instead of the delicate ribbons that sometimes adorn a glass). it was also rather heavy on the coke. The vinaigrette dressing was creamy, and taste enough like thousand island that I asked if the order was right. I was told very firmly that their vinaigrette was a creamy one, and that no, they had not made a mistake. Whatever it was, the lettuce was swimming in it. The main dish ended up being one chicken breast, butterflied, and grilled to a dryness rarely seen in a dessert. There was a lemon wedge on the plate. Besides the mashed potatoes that came with it, that was it. The meal looked and tasted unappealing. That was it. Really, not a great experience, and not a great meal. I would actively avoid this restaurant in future. The only reason that I've given this 2 stars is that the steak eaters enjoyed their meals.

Three of us went to Jak's for dinner. We all had steaks and they were excellent. I liked the fact they had a petite size, which was plenty to eat. Dinners came with salad, bread, vegetables, and choice of potato. I had the potato pancakes, which were quite good. Service was excellent. Our booth was very comfortable. We had a very good bottle of wine. Prices at first seemed high, but given the quantity and quality of food and service, the prices were very reasonable Highly recommended.

I have enjoyed a variety of lunches here, always good food and great service. A bit expensive and good luck with parking on weekends.

I gave Jak's 3 stars because it is a solid lunch spot with a good steak salad and good sandwiches on the lunch menu. We have consistently been underwhelmed for dinner and I think last night marks our last attempt. The waitstaff is average at best we found them minimally engaging, not personable, and more importantly not attentive. When we were done with our meal we had countless empty plates stacked up and taking up way too much space on our table. That's a bit difficult with a child at the table. It's nice to have empty plates cleared semi regularly so you have some room to move around. The steak was "good" as in fine but not amazing. There are other mouth watering amazing steak venues in Seattle. Not sure if it's appropriate to mention their names in this review. My shrimp dish was rather nondescript. All shrimp scampi dishes in other restaurants exceeded it's caliber. The meal came to $178 for two adults who each had one glass of wine and a 7 year old. For that amount there are plenty of other places to have a great meal in this city.

Good food, quiet atmosphere (conducive to conversation) and server was prompt, attentive, but not in your face. The Thurs special, a rib sandwich w/ bleu cheese/alioli on Kaiser roll was great, as were the onion rings. They were happy to split a sandwich for two and it was more than adequate.

We decided to skip the crowds and celebrate Mother's Day a week early with breakfast at Jak's. It's a typical grill outfit, so I wouldn't say it looked exactly bright and cheerful, but secondly very functional and clean. The breakfast menu is of course heavy on eggs, and I did not see any suggestion about having an egg-white omelet or scramble -but my 3-egg Greek veggie scramble was delicious. Others had chosen French toast (the remnants of which they considered worth taking home) and the famous waffle with cream and strawberries. Also on the menu and there is the offer of oatmeal with yogurt and fruit and granola, but I can't pronounce on that one. Our server was pleasant and efficient, and Jak's is a place to return to.

We have been loyal JaKs lovers for years and we absolutely love this place. We have tried almost everything on the menu and everything has fulfilled our expectations, every time. That doen't happen very often, as you know. Our favorite thing is Kens favorite top sirloin. The hamburger is delicious as well. For potato option pick the UFO (not on the menu) it's mashed potato with a potato cake on top, so yummy! For starter salad we love the blue cheese. Their wine selection is extensive and affordable! Jaks doesn't take reservations but having a glass in the bar is a great way to wait for a table. Waiters are so professional and nice. We don't know what school/course these waiters take to become the best, but many restaurants should follow Jaks model If you go to Seattle without a meal at Jaks you are missing out. We take all our friends and family there when they are in town and they all love it as much as we do.

We have mixed feeling about Jak's at the Laurelhurst location. They have a great Happy Hour at the bar, a good selection of noshes and drinks, a very competent bartender during the week. Dinner is a mixed bag of good and mediocre. Good: the entrees. Mediocre: the salad and bread which is just fluff. In a city like Seattle with great bread everywhere there is no excuse for boring bread. Entrees come with a salad, a plate full of nondescript greens, no other option possible, very skimpy on the dressing. We all enjoyed our entrees but the only starch offering is in the potato family, no rice, no interesting grains. The seasonal vegetables were the usual available all year broccoli and carrots. Come on, that is hardly "seasonal" especially during asparagus season. Wine selections are very pricey by the glass. We say go for HH, there is bang for your buck then. Our server was attentive but the young woman at the door should look for other work, she was not welcoming and sullen. No one said Thanks for coming once the bill was paid. They are lucky they survive as a local favorite place in this part of town which doesn't have a lot of good dining options even though it is a very affluent neighborhood.

We eat here several times a year when we are visiting in the Seattle area. The food is always great. We have never had anything that wasn't above average and they have an extensive wine list. The staff is so friendly and bends over backwards to make your dining experience a great one. They have some gluten free options.

We went to the West Seattle Jak's location for a good steak dinner after a long day of arduous hiking. We wanted a really good meal but also wanted to avoid the normal insane prices you get at 5 star steakhouses. Jak's was perfect! Good meal selection, good wine list, and not nearly as pricey as some of the other city options. Also the location is in a really cute walkable neighborhood and easy to find. The least expensive steak was the Sunday prime rib special at $21, and it went up from there depending on your tastes (and there was plenty for the discerning patron to choose from). There was also plenty of seafood and non-steak items. I left meat-drunk :)

The food is really tasty. Good portions, however they have shrunken recently and the price grew abit. However, it is still a bargain compared to Ruthies in Seattle. My only two complaints are no reservations, kids can't sit around long, and the fact that they made the seats in a day with plywood. They are so uncomfortable you cannot enjoy your meal. That said, you eat and get up fast. Makes the owners happy as you move out of the way for the next customer. I sure wish they would at least put some padding in so the elderly people can enjoy their meal, too.

We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. We have been here several other times and this time the food was much better. The only problem was that it was barely warm when it was served. I had the filet, which was really delicious and my husband had the halibut, which he said was good. We ordered different cocktails to start and didn't realize until we got the bill that the waitress brought two of the same. We shared the butter lettuce salad, which was very good and then at the end, he received a complimentary dessert. He chose the chocolate cake and it was quite a treat. Our waitress was nice, but seemed very hurried. As on other visits, it is a very noisy restaurant. Our bill was nearly $200 for two of us, and my 8 oz filet, at $61 was a major contributor to the cost.

We to the family to Jak's on a Friday night. It was earlier than we really wanted to eat but Jak's doesn't take reservations. No trouble getting a table at 5:45pm. Prompt, friendly service is a Jak's staple and I have never been let down. We started with calamari steak strips deep fried with three dipping sauces. Good, not greasy. Jak's does a good job with cocktails and they always arrive ice cold. At our table, we had two ribeyes and two filet mignons. The waitress talked one diner out of rare for ribeye, explaining that the fat needed to cook a bit more and should be medium. It was a very good recommendation. We enjoyed the julienned horseradish on our ribeyes. Unique and good. Jak's serves better side dishes than most steakhouses which usually have bland sides as they focus on the steak (I mean you Ruth's Chris!) but our potatoes and fries were all good. Vegetables were nicely cooked. Portions are large and rarely get finished. We shared a creme brulee which was delicious. You can always plan on a delicious cocktails, good service and great food at any of Jak's locations.

This is by far the best place for big juicy steaks and seafoods in town. You'll get the most mouth-watering meal for your money as well. I've been a fan of Jak's since they were a little hole in the wall place in West Seattle. Now I've dined all their locations and still love the bistro ambiance and of course the food. I haven't been disappointed in anything dish I've tried.

I went to Jak's on a whim and I'm glad I did. The food was delicious and plenty of it. I had steak and baked potato and they were great. The atmosphere was very casual and there was seating at the bar. The staff were all very friendly. The only downside was the unapologetically ridiculously long wait for the food to come after ordering. I'll definitely go here again.

Overall excellent experience: meal, atmosphere, service, mid-price. Pork Medallion dish was outstanding: meat had a great zest (without being too salty, as is often the case in restaurant dining where "flavor = lots of salt"), the vegetables were grilled "to perfection" to use a warranted cliché. Portions were quite generous, enabling a doggie-bag take home lunch the next day. The Jak's Burger, for burger lovers, was a big hit at our table, with both diners rating it "excellent" - also generous portions for take home. The included salad also generous, was delicious. Jak's has a quite a good wine list, moderately to expensively prices. This was a great discovery and I would definitely come back. (Parking can be a problem here, but there are a number of off-street parking sites that are free, so you should be able to find something a short walk away, even at dinner hour.)

Absolutely amazing dinner! We had steak and salmon which we shared. It was absolutely THE BEST salmon and broccoli we have ever had. I would love to have the recipe! The portions were very generous, we couldn't eat it all. Staff were efficient and attentive and we did not have to wait an exorbitant amount of time for our food. It will be our go to every time we go to Seattle. You have to try it!!

i love the jax's sirloin it's so big but i give it my all and usually devour the whole darn thing but if you want a deal come for happy hour the drinks taste sweeter and the burger is less $$ yum time is coming now let me go for jax's is calling my name!!!

Jak's has multiple locations in the Seattle area; but my review focuses on the one I go to most at 45th St. Jak's doesn't offer reservations, so plan your visit accordingly by arriving early at prime dinner hours. Also, because this location is closest to UW stadium and other sports venues, expect them to be very busy on game days. That said, even when I've been told it would be a 30-45 minute wait, the longest wait was closer to 15 minutes. Order a drink or appetizer while waiting in the lobby. Now, the food: I've been to all of Seattle's steakhouses: Daniel's, Morton's, The Brooklyn, Metropolitan Grill etc.; but none of them have impressed me as much as the steaks at Jak's. And it's a great value. As of this writing, the 18 oz Ribeye (my favorite) will set you back $42 - but that includes hot oven baked bread, a large salad and your choice of potato prep: mash, baker, pancakes or fries and veggies du jour. That $42 price is usually the base for just the steak at the other places - everything else will cost you extra. The spouse opts for the filet mignon and daughter, the steak skewers. Super Secret Bonus: Monday evening is Prime Rib special dinner. All the above choices and a prime rib cooked to perfection and large enough for a second meal for under $25. Good luck finding a better prime rib meal deal anywhere in town. The service at this location has always been outstanding. My only complaint: sometimes the entree arrives when you're only halfway through your salad. At which point, who cares about a salad when you have a mouth-watering ribeye sitting in front of you?

The meal was good. Server was wonderful. The baked potatoes were the largest we have ever seen! Large enough to share. Actually the whole meal was quite large and took 1/2 of it home.

Everything about the evening was excellent. From the poised and polite young man who seated us to our waitress, Michelle, the service could not have been better. My wife and I both had the Wagyu Zabuton and it was one of the best steaks I have ever tasted.

First, the pro: Parking in back is very convenient. Service was excellent. She tried to accommodate for the terrible food..... Cons: I ordered the "special"... Shortribs.... the accompanied salad was crisp, but need to order extra salad dressing if you want to actually taste the dressing. The shortribs were burnt, stringy, tough and sauce so salty, I was hesitant to order a side of extra sauce just so I could swallow the meat. However, it was so salty, all was lost. My partner ordered the smoke marinated ribeye... remember "liquid smoke" from decades ago? That's all you taste in this piece of meat. Totally ruined what might have been a nice steak. They comped one of the dinners because a long black hair was found in the salad.... we won't be back - at any price. There's too many other good restaurants nearby, I'd leave this one to the bar crowd.

Steak was overdone and tough and had some kind of strange marinade or sauce on it hiding the flavor of the meat (maybe that was the plan?). Bread had a weird texture. I was expecting a much better meal as this place isn't inexpensive. Mashed potato was good. Service was excellent however.

My husband and I tried Jak's Grill Laurelhurst location for the first time last night. It exceeded my expectations. We both ordered ribeyes and found them to be less fatty and more flavorful than those we have ordered at high end restaurants. The produce and meat both were fresh and well prepared ... steaks cooked as ordered. I am surprised at a couple of the reviews indicating the restaurant being expensive. I don't know of any steakhouse in the area that provides a complete meal (salad, two sides, bread, and 18-20 oz steak) in the $50 range, and the steak was good! The bread is sourdough bread and served upon request. Service seemed a little slow at times, but it was a busy Saturday night. I would call the booth seating intimate, but romantic is a stretch. Intimate in that there are extended partitions above both sides of the booth so you are not interrupted or distracted by your neighbors. However, this is not where I would want my date to bring me for a romantic meal. The ambiance of the restaurant overall is not romantic (no view, noisy, tvs, etc). There is some table seating ... definitely nothing intimate or romantic about the tables. Great place to come and eat when you don't want to cook and want a night out. We felt the meal and value were very good and will return.

My friend and I went two weeks ago to Jak's Grill. She particularly likes the steak salad. The restaurant was busy and after an hour or so, we were actually served. But with virtually no one in the restaurant, it was impossible to get our bill until we left the table to visit the restroom. We returned the following week, assuming that the poor service was an anomaly. We had a different waitress, but this time the service was even worse, and only a few tables were occupied. My roast beef sandwich was so dry I couldn't eat it. I asked for horseradish, but it never came, and after 20 minutes and two bites, I took my sandwich to our waitress who was chatting with a customer at the bar and told her it was too dry and asked for the more expensive steak sandwich -- rare. It arrived medium rare, and I asked for horseradish again. I waited, and I waited and finally I went back to the bar to get it. I had to ask for my friend's tea, which we ordered before we'd even ordered our food. I'm so glad this restaurant doesn't automatically charge a 20% gratuity; I would have had to argue with the manager. We're not coming back anytime soon.

This steakhouse is just 5 minutes east of the University of Washington in Seattle. We called ahead for reservations but were informed in a friendly manner that Jak's did not take reservations. They did indicate however that a table for 4 was available if we would arrive in the next 30 minutes. And so it was. We were seated right away. Drink orders were taken as we sat down, and the specials were explained in a very humorous but clear speech. My daughters ordered the petite filet mignon and I took the Felix Filet steak and crab combo. Food arrived within 15 minutes, and what a meal it was. The meat was aged perfectly and cooked exactly to order. This was the best steak we had on our 4-week trip along the US West Coast. The price was very reasonable for the quality and the service provided. Absolutely recommended. Great steak in a lively grill. Good selection of draft beers and wines too.

haven't been to this one, but one in issaquah is very good - steaks!

excellent place to grab a glass of wine; food is fine.

I love this place. The only shortcoming is that they don't accept reservations, which makes dinner time on Friday and Saturday impossible.

Dinner Thursday night with wife, daughter, and mother. Each meal was well done and much better than initial expectations. 2 perfectly cooked steaks, one amazing halibut, and crazy good lobster mac-n-cheese. Service was great, very good timing hastened to meet the needs of a tired & hungry 4 year old and a restaurant full of patrons who didn't need to notice her. Great Meal!

We had one of the best steaks we've ever eaten at this steakhouse. We had the dry-aged ribeye topped with mushrooms, garlic, and a cream sauce. It was served with asparagus, a salad, and a baked potato. My husband and I shared this dish, and it was more than plenty for two. The steak was perfectly prepared, tender, and flavorful.

Was looking for a moderate priced steakhouse outside of downtown and found a winner. Steak cooked to perfection, quick, helpful and friendly service made for a great meal experience. It's a bit off the beaten path but worth the trip.
Fabulous
Jak's has great food and awesome service. I was alone and the server didn't hover or make me feel otherwise uncomfortable. They put me in a nice, out-of-the-way spot (not near the kitchen or server station), so I wasn't uncomfortable being alone. The crab stuffed halibut is so good, and a generous size. The decor is a little cigar loungish, but not overwhelmingly so.
