Less Than Desirable Experience Jack & Ginger's

By atxgrl79 |

Initially before the full party arrived to our table the waitress came by a few times to check in. After our party arrived she immediately came by and took our orders. She wasn't very forthcoming with the info regarding happy hour so we had to ask. Once the food arrived and more than enough time went by for everyone to eat I had to flag the waitress down to inform her that my meal was horrible. I had the shepards pie which was a horrible decision. It taste like something out of a can or box. My replacement meal the bangers and mash was okay. The waitress was polite when she showed up but she had the tendency to disappear even though there were not many patrons there at the time. The water had a noticeable taste and the redhead in my bed should've been wonderful but I suspect they were not using a fresh strawberry mix. I have never rated a bar/food establishment so low. I will not be returning to this place and only recommend someone go if they are there for the beer.

The Best British Beer in Austin

By Sanjit_1 |

Jack & Gingers can be found on Rock Rose in the new part of The Domain. Great atmosphere with outside misters to keep you cool for when it's a bit hot. A great find for when you want a great snack chased down with a cold pint. The Guiness was good but the Boddingtons is as good as you will get in the UK. Perfect retreat whilst the family go shopping and they can always join you for a bite to eat and another pint for yourself. Friendly staff with an Irish feel inside and very relaxing atmosphere outside

Nothing Authentic Here

By Austinbunnie |

To call this a Pub is crazy. The food is not authentic. I couldn’t finish my meal because it didn’t taste good. Service was a problem as well. The waitress did not bring a knife to cut the “Bangers”. I had to go find her for the knife and to pay out. This was around 3:00pm and there were only 3 other tables at any given time. I will never go back.

Skip St. Patty's day here.

By sallyd |

Went to Jack and Gingers on St. Patty's day. It was financially not worth it. Pay to get in to listen to music you can hear on the sidewalk. You waited in line for a pretzel, for drinks, and for outdoor potties. There was no discounts after paying a highly expensive entrance fee. Yes, I should have walked and not paid the entrance fee but unless the door charge went to feeding the poor in Ireland I wont be back for this event again. I do like JnG on different days just do not know why they decided to charge SOOOO MUCH.

Vegas Irish

By Jensoid |

Not meaning to dirty the waters here, however, come on... There are Irish Bars, Irish Themed Bars and American wanna be cool and jump on the Irish Band Wagon Bars. Jack & Gingers is the latter. Now, it may just be this venue fits perfect in the City of the Domain. Since we were staycationing and had never been to the Domain, we ventured out to check out the scene. We didn't eat so cannot comment on the food things. However, we did want a Guinness for the misses and a something, something for me. The misses Guinness was on point, better than we have had in a lot of places. My pint of lager was cold and refreshing. I get the proper glass for the type of pint. However, I don't believe they are pouring 20 oz UK pints, but US 16 oz. Being a massive fan of EPL Footy, I was surprised to see a sign proclaiming they are an EPL hotspot or something similar. "Endless hours of soccer on the weekend" their website proclaims. Ok fair enough, however when I asked the bartender if they were going to open for the 9am game on Saturday, the next morning, I got a blank stare and she would check for me. I never heard back from her. There is a vibrant community here in Austin watching EPL and with that comes some pretty well known places to watch a match. The Everton supporters used to go there, but they soon came back to Haymaker for all their matches. Since we were staying practically next door at The Archer, I just watched in our suite, rather than getting up an adam to hook it next door to find them closed. It's all good. This is just perception of course, but I like more of a smaller, nooks and crany's, intimate surroundings if you would, type of Irish Bar. This was a nice, clean, polished up version of something you might find in Vegas. But.. it's the Domain, so there's that.

After dinner and drinks!!

By arthurchupka@gmail.com |

This place was okay!! The atmosphere was nice and cozy. The food selection was tiny for an Irish bar. The only real bright spot was the enormous pretzel and the beer cheese sauce. Not really in a rush to go back here.

An Irish Pub that can't pour a proper pint of Guinness?

By Tony H |

This new entry in the pub category is located in the hip new Rock Rose area of the Domain shopping district in north Austin. Everything is cool about this place; location, tons of craft beers and even a really Irish looking dude working the front door (he was a red head, coincidence?). However, I ordered a pint of Guinness as any self respecting Irishman would do on the half way to St. Pats day celebration (yeah its a thing) and was disappointed to see it served about 3/4s full due to the bartender not letting the famous Guinness head settle. Never mind that they were serving them in the US pint glasses rather than the Imperial pint which hold slightly more. I let it go at first but when I ordered a 2nd, the same result. I pointed it out to my waitress and she admitted the bar tender wasnt used to pouring Guinness and brought it back to be topped up. But it begs the question, if they knew they had a bar tender who was consistently under serving patrons, why not teach that person or get a bar tender who knows how to pour a pint of Guinness? Other than that, the waitress was lovely and the food was good. Both the fish AND the chips passed the Irish pub test. Ill go back but i hope this was just a one night aberration otherwise they might have a riot on their hands come St Paddy day.

Great patio to hang out!

By kruezers |

We stopped here after dinner with friends. THis place has a cool floor in the dining room that looks into the beer cooler. Also, the patio area is really nice to watch a game, drink a beer and just hang out.

Not the best in the Domain

By TravelToday |

This place was just okay. It was kind of a disappointment compared to other places in the Domain. The service and drinks were just okay. The food was also just okay. We asked the waitress if 2 of us girls could split the fish and chips. She said it was just one small piece of fish. So, we each ordered our own. What she didn't tell us (conveniently) was that the one piece of fish was the size of my hand, except longer. We totally could have shared.

Excellent place

By Mike Z |

I stopped here for dinner just because it was close to where I was. I didn't expect much, thought I would just get some greasy bar food. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere was great, just what I expected for an Irish pub. Service was very good, seemed like there was only one waitress but it wasn't an issue, she was great. Now to the food. I had the wings which were cooked nicely and had a good kick to them, which I didn't expect. I also had the flank steak which I expected to be over cooked. However it was cooked perfectly and it tasted amazing, great flavor and great seasoning. Very happy with my meal. Last but not least the beer. An amazing selection to choose from. If you can't find a beer you like, you're not a beer drinker. Overall a great experience, I would definitely recommend this place.

Good Beer, Good Food

By dabasan |

The beer menu is HUGE...excellent selection of beer/ale on tap! The food was good: from the brunch menu...the bangers and mash were delicious, and the serving was very large; the sweet chili chicken wings were delicious, plump and juicy; the maple-butter biscuit sandwich was very tasty, but the biscuit crumbled a lot, making it messy to eat. The service was less than stellar: our server got details of our order wrong and was not very attentive. The only big detractor, was the really loud rock music...made it difficult to hear conversation at our table and it made everyone in the pub shout to be heard...thereby increasing the ambient noise even more.

Worst place in Austin

By B B |

The bartenders were so incredibly rude. One yelled at me because SHE didn't get my order right. Also the place smells awful. I regret stepping foot in there. It's one of the worst places I've been to in Austin

BEER!!!!!

By Mkonno |

Over 40 beers on tap how could you not love this place. Awesome patio to enjoy an after work cocktail. The service is slow but other than that it was all good.

Watching the Horns and drinking...

By Debra W |

First time here... walked in and it seemed pretty busy! We found a couch and sat .. perfect place for watching the game! (There were tv's all over, so any seat is a good seat!). But we were pretty comfy on the couch! While we waited for a waitress, I visited the restroom (to get there, you walk over several clear glass pains where you can see a lot of kegs below you in the basement). These see-through, glass floor panels freak me out so I walked around them as best I could (you can avoid this path by going around by the bar, which I did on my return). I grabbed a mixed drink menu at the bar. and we waited for a waitress. Or did stop by to tell us she'd be right with us, but we saw her (and another waitress) go by and look at us but they never stopped to take our drink order (we were prepared two drinks each since they seemed busy). I finally sent my hubby to the bar to order our drinks and he found a better place to sit near the bar as the place seemed to be clearing out a bit. A waitress approached us immediately and we ordered an old-fashioned, a blood orange margarita and two shots of tequila. Service was pretty quick but no napkins accompanied our drinks, tequila shots were served undressed (we had to ask for limes), the old fashion was supposed to be served with a large ice cube, but was instead served with little cubes which melted quickly and watered the drink down relatively quickly. The margarita was more mix than anything. My hubby ordered a second old-fashion and we ordered two more tequila shots but requested them to be dressed. Drinks came promptly but we were told they ran out of the tequila we wanted so we had to upgrade the tequila (which included an upgraded price). Cool atmosphere, we saw a table with food and the pretzel and fish-n-chips looked to have generous portions.

Was very surprised.....BRAVO Jack and Gingers!

By MICHAEL D |

Actually this is for 2 visits in same week. Sat outside both times, very pleasant, great selection of beers from around US, not just the normal few choices that many other pubs carry. Great service and food both times. We had the Fish and Chips first visit which as a Brit was amazed how good it was, very much like what I would get at home. Our second visit was during brunch. I mentioned to server that it was a shame they didn't have fish and Chips on the brunch menu as I had enjoyed it so much the other evening. The server went back in the kitchen and the chef went ahead and cooked me fish and chips even though not on the menu till much later in the day. That really says a lot about going above and beyond..when you see many other places cutting corners. BRAVO Jack and Gingers!

Sunday Funday in north Austin

Great outdoor bar area with a great selection of beer. Bartenders are super awesome and friendly. Dog friendly too.

Irish pub food

By Jonathangreenlee |

I tried out this new place on Rock Rose ave in the Domain's new area of restaurants and bars. I had their Bangers&Mash and a pint of Guiness. The food is as you expect at an Irish pub (heavy with gravy). The place is rather dark so it's not a place to read a book, unless you sit in the outdoor patio area (where dogs are welcome.) also I only saw small tables so it's not a place for a large group.

Best chicken wings at the domain!

By Michael S |

BEST WINGS I HAD. The cheese dip was gorgeous. Selection of beers is insane and its just an all round nice bar to go to.

Becky ROCKS

Ridiculously AMAZING waitress....Becky ROCKS!! Always sit in her section, she becomes part of the family 💕💕

Nice and easy

By Aaron T |

I was in town for work and staying in the Domain. It was an easy 2 minute walk from Aloft. The have a happy hour from 5-7 with drink and food specials. We were inside but there is an outside area also. Looked like about 100 beers on tap. They food is very good. We went for drinks and stayed for dinner. Plenty of tvs for sports. The staff was friendly and attentive. Low key. Very comfortable.

Casual with a good craft beer selection.

By lois f |

Although not the largest tap wall in Austin (I think that honor goes to Bangers on Rainey Street) it still has a very good selection. A nice outside area.and lots of seating inside for those hot hot August days.

Good Times on the Outdoor Patio on a Saturday Night

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

We had a great time at this drinking establishment at The Domain in North Austin. It was a busy Saturday night in November after a soccer match at nearby Q2 Stadium, but our large group was able to find a table on the outdoor patio. Nice selection of beers on tap.

quick visit

By george c |

live nearby. hungry so sat at bar ( am still at bar!). the two young bartenders were very helpful ( ordered tuna sandwich per bartender rec + two micros)....WHEN they were not paying total attention to their convo. so svc was 🆗, not grt. however, the tap variety is terrific (80 plus touted) and the venue is spacious with top notch media. loved the place. my bartender remains more interested in chatting with either the guy to my right ---acouple doors down-- or the other bartender, i am old school and more acquainted with those whose eyes scan the bar for service. mevertheless, a gd experience.

Great service and selection

By tahbaza |

I was there in a Saturday evening and the place was packed. The service remained responsible and friendly and the drink selections were better than average. The outdoor patio ambience also made it possible to enjoy the pleasant weather.

Not very Irish

By Nancy L |

Not a very Irish pub. Drove across town to have a full Irish breakfast. Service was not friendly. Guinness glass not poured full. Lots of beer but no Kilkenny. Full Irish breakfast did not have white pudding nor Irish bacon (which I am ok with) but I did not enjoy barely cooked American bacon. The sausage was ok but tough . When served silverware they only gave me a fork. The toast was y buttered rye toast. Never had rye with Irish breakfast before. I asked for a fork and butter for toast. They looked at me and said they would see what the could do. Played several kinds of music including Latin but no Irish. This one is ok at best. Doubt I would come back.

Nice for beers

By Pauak |

The outdoor area is usually packed with people, and if lucky to get a table, it is cool to have a beer watching the people go by. Service was quick and nice, and their beer selection is more “Austin style” than Irish (they did NOT have Murphy’s!).

Poor Service

By Kyllito |

If you want to read the longer details of my experience below, you can. In short, I have experienced much better service and will not return again because of the poor service. I have been J&G's several times and finally had the chance to go to it. What a disappointment due to the lousy service. If I was just going there to meet people for a beer and hangout and talk, my experience may have been closer to three stars. But I went there for beer and dinner, then hop over to the Domain to a store or two. I wasn't rushed to eat and leave, but still wanted something that looked like attentive or servers who approached to caring. The initial server checked in with us initially and waited to order for one more in our party to arrive, which he did in less than five minutes. Then it took another ten minutes until another server came to take our drink order. The beer came fairly quickly, but then it took another five or ten minutes before the initial server came to take our order. About ten minutes later, the second server came by and said they couldn't make what I was ordering, so I decided to get the Shephard's Pie. The food came out fairly quickly after this interaction. But they brought both the Shephard's Pie and what I had ordered initially which they said they wouldn't be able to make. I said I would take the Shephard's Pie, but the expediter/server seemed confused that I didn't want the other order even though I had explained to him what had happened. The second server happened to come by while the expediter was still there perplexed, who said she would take care of it and not to worry. The flavor of the Shepard's Pie was good, but they need to not say that there are vegetables in it because all that I saw were overcooked canned peas, which to the eye are not appealing. Why not use fresh peas or other fresh veggies to make it not only appealing to taste but also to the eyes. During our meal, no one checked on us. After we were done, we still had to wait ten minutes before we were able to flag down our initial server to ask for the check, which was wrong as it included the item they said they would not be able to serve me.

Very poor service

By Bobby P |

Started going here on a semi - regular basis for lunch when it first opened; always had decent food and real friendly service. We (two of us) went on Monday, 18th July, and took a seat at the bar, the waitress arrived after a few minutes and took out drink order, some time passed and another waitress arrived and asked us what we wanted, I told her that my order had been taken, she became visibly irritated and told me, very abruptly that the first waitress was not old enough to serve mixed drinks. We re-ordered and the the drinks arrived, the waitress asked us what we wanted to eat, we already knew, Fish & Chips, Shepherd's Pie. A very friendly and personable young man actually brought the food which we ate, however, the abysmal attitude of the waitress put a real damper on what would otherwise have been a decent lunch. The girl was not friendly, she was not, NOT friendly, she was downright UNfriendly. The place wasn't even approaching busy, probably less than 10 customers in at that time around 1:00PM. Certainly not the type of welcome one expects from an Irish (or any other) pub. Appalling behavior!

Great Dive bar

By BrianB32931 |

I love going to a "Joint" they are always fun and you never know what you're going to get. I had already had lunch so I got a Big pretzel to go with my beer and my daughter got a veggie burger. She loved her lunch and we both liked the bar, felt a little like Dublin.

Decent Irish pub

By m3loveah |

Decent cocktails and service. I really like the outdoor, dog friendly patio. Music can be a bit too loud at times. I haven't sampled much food, but the rueben potato skins hit the spot when I did have a chance to try them.

Surprisingly good

By Gus L |

Visited 2018-12-24 at 1115. Two of us shared fish, chips, and grilled green beans, $17.32 plus tip. Fish was tasty and lightly battered. Chips were excellent. Grilled green beans were good. Seating was comfortable. Staff was professional, but it took a while to pay bill. Music was loud, making it hard to have a conversation. Parking for lunch is on street or in garage.

Decent Irish Pub

By CyclingGeo |

Very good location in the Domain. The beer list was OK and the burger I had was tasty. Would probably be best as part of a pub crawl rather than a final destination.

St. Patricks day fun

By enur1979 |

Had a great time at the street party hosted by Jack & Gingers, which every year seems to be better organized than the year before.

Disappointed

By Julia N |

I seek Irish pubs wherever I travel, for the sports, camaraderie and/or Irish music. I wanted to love this one in my own home town, but it's basic with pricey food. (Of course, The Domain area.) Loud club music. A skincare infomercial was playing on the big screen on a Sunday afternoon, and informing the wait staff didn't result in a channel change. Not what I come to a pub to see. Disappointed.

Friday Evening Beer

By Warren John P |

Have been here twice on Friday night. This is a great place to enjoy a few beers, eat some pub food and watch the ladies dressed for weekend fun.

Lunch with a view

By Jim A |

Jack & Gingers patio has superb people watching so we enjoyed lunch and watched the Domain passers by! After several beers, we split off into apps and burgers. Both were very good. Our server, Julia R, was great, when you could find her! I really like this place, but it takes a while to get served. Don't be in a hurry!

Most tap beers ever!

By Peter W |

This place has THE most tap beers I have ever seen - and I've seen a lot :-). Great atmosphere for an office outing. The wait staff took great care of us. Pro Tip: Valet Parking right in front of the place - $6.

my First Bar in TX

By Gary B |

Was absolutely awesome, I had a Cider from Ireland that I didnt think I could get other than Ireland. GULP GULP, had the sweet spicey wings and they were tasty but so-so. Watched the game --GO WARRIORS-- across from Spurs fans---SOOORRRRYYYYYY

Great setting for drinks and football

By Patrick G |

Sit outside if you can, and the weather is good. Big screens make this a good place to watch games. Inside is fine too, but a bit darker - more like an Irish pub.

Service was good, food and drinks extremely overpriced. Stay away from the nasty oil soaked green beans- yuck.

By AsiaTr0tter |

Great location and sidewalk/patio set up but horribly managed. Their choice of music and television makes me wonder if they are trying to appeal to adults or junior high students- come on !!! My server was great but she had to keep apologizing for the kitchen- they brought out my salad after I was done with my meal- I sent it back. Cocktail was just ok but way overpriced- when you charge that much for a drink it better be good and stout. Count me out for a return visit.

Drinks and appetizers

By Topekagirl |

This is a really fun place for drinks. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was great service. We also had good appetizers.

JAMESON ON DRAFT!

By Schuste |

pros: This place has an ok selection of beer, cons: they have "pre-selected" the beers you can pick for your beer flight (and its not the best). They advertised completely different specials for happy hour and at the location, and then the servers are 'not aware'. Besides that the place is a really good place to grab a beer with friends, good music, big space and it is never crowded.

Nice Irish pub with good feels

By JWK1969 |

It feels like an Irish pub, though the floor work in the dining area is something to behold. I won't spoil it for you. Service was friendly and fast. Didn't eat here, but it might be worth a try on my next trip down. Good, long list of beer.

Fun Pub

By Judy D |

Went on a Saturday evening..... place gets packed.. Met some interesting people. GREAT bartender. It was just one stop within walking distance of several.. we tried to hit all of them.
