Great place to meet up with friends and their kids to enjoy lunch and a day out in Sellwood, The food is Vietnamese/Thai within the context of a French patisserie. Perhaps a throw back to old Saigon?

We have eaten here many, many times. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to the table, but no waiting on tables. Fabulous food. I think their Salt and Pepper Fried Calamari is the best I've had anywhere. My brother has been all over the world and said their Chili Noodles are the best he's had… even in China. Caramelized Pork, yum! Enjoy.

We had a late lunch at Jade. It works like this ... stand in line, order, pay, take a number to your table, wait a few minutes for your food to be delivered and eat some delicious food. They have tables outside, inside and upstairs. All of the dishes have great eye appeal as well as great taste. Inexpensive prices. The place was packed, but magically there always seemed to be a couple tables available for the next customer in line. Very attentive and helpful staff. We highly recommend this Asian fusion restaurant.

We went for lunch before heading to the oaks amusement park. we needed to order food at the counter and they brought the food over to us. have different nice fusion food. Small restaurant, price was ok (a bit more than some fast food cahins), little wait for the food to come.

Went to this restaurant with a friend. The food is most excellent. The wraps are well worth the minimum price and come with a fabulous peanut sauce. All and all excellent quality food at a great price!

I've been going here for years and still, there are days when I simply can't stop thinking about the food at Jade. The crispy springrolls, the vermicelli salad, the coconut soup brimming with chicken, noddles & veggies. Even the poached chicken, which might sound bland, is delicious in its savory broth. If you're daunted by the large tea selection, ask for advice from the cashier. If you don't have room for dessert, do yourself a favor and get something to go. if you can't decide which dessert, get several!

I loved the way Jade felt when we walked in- efficient yet calm, friendly and inviting. I loved the wide variety of vegetables available.

What a place! You order at the counter and then find a table. Then the amazing food comes. But wait, there's more! I ordered so much that I will be eating for 2 more days. The good part is it carries over well. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Fantastic!

A charming little bistro, beautiful natural lighting, but great for take-out too. Hugely popular locally, so it can get pretty crowded. But the noodles are delicious: very light and fresh. And the sesame balls are a popular favorite, so good (also, vegan friendly)!

I have been here several times always a great meal ,,always very busy and loud . they get you your food fast and its always good

The food was delicious! We went for lunch and although there was a line to the door, it moved quickly. You order at the counter, and can browse the menu while waiting in line. Once you've ordered you can find a table. We loved the food. We tried Fried Pork Spring Rolls, Hum Bao (not gluten free), Sesame Beef and Garlic Lemongrass Chicken. We loved all of it. I also appreciated the staff informing me that their fryer is also gluten free eliminating a chance of cross-contamination. We will definitely be back. We felt the quality of the food, the preparation and flavors were amazing!

I would recommend everybody who comes to this restaurant to pay attention to instruction on the first page of their menu. You have to order at the cash register first, and then find a table. If you follow instructions, everything goes smoothly. But I observed a group of people who came and occupied a table first, and they were sitting there for some time wondering why no waiter came. You can choose your pastries from a big glass case at the time your are ordering your food at the cash register. Life is short, eat dessert first!!! Which we did, and enjoyed our dessert thoroughly. The best was the sesame ball! Then the almond cookie! Then the French macaroon, Mocha flavor! Then the lemon curd thingie that looked like flan! The two dishes we split were the papaya salad with shrimp, nice and mildly spicy, and salmon wrapped in bamboo leaves. The salmon was part big chunks of salmon, and part smaller chopped pieces with herbs, kind like oriental gefilte fish, but hot. So this dish is for those only who like such things, If you expect your regular chunk of salmon, this may seem overcooked to you. We also tasted their home-made raspberry kombucha, which was not too sweet, but very cold. I would come here again if I have a chance!

Just a fun and excellent restaurant. Lots and lots of choices, from vegetarian to Gluten-free to meatfull. Noodle dishes we sampled (and we tried several) were fresh and delicious. Fun, upbeat atmosphere but, not surprisingly, crowded. Plan on returning many times.

I eat here every trip to Portland. The best Thai the young lady taking orders always has directed me to great tasting food. I go out of my way to eat here. Prices very reasonable. It's a must.

A very good friend of mine introduced me to the Jade Teahouse this week, and I could hardly wait to come back with my husband today for lunch. The Jade Teahouse is located in the Sellwood District. It is more than a Teahouse, as it offers fairly inexpensive, delicious, and amazing varied choices of Asian fusion dishes (Vietnamese, French, and Laotian). You place your order at the counter, choose a table, and someone brings your dishes over. We tried the Beef Noodle Soup with rice noodles in a beef broth with onions and slices of beef (or if you prefer chicken or tofu), served with green beans, bean sprouts, and basil. We also ordered some Fresh Salad Rolls with shrimp (4 rolls per order), and we could not resist the French Fries with a drizzle of Oregon truffle oil. I suspect everything on their menu is as wonderful and tasty as what we had today. Because this is a very popular restaurant, it gets extremely crowded during lunchtime, but don't let that scare you, it is well worth the wait. The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. This one is a keeper in our little black book of restaurants in Portland.

I found this spot on a trip to the Portland area last year. I tell everyone that's going to visit to check it out...and it was one of the first spots I hit when I got back out here this year. I love the steamed salmon in a banana leaf and the soups are excellent as well. Lots of options, excellent quality. Great little spot!

Thank goodness I saw the lovely, generous crab and shrimp ommelette on the plate of a patron as we waited in line to order, as it turned out to be a special that day and only appeared as a tiny add-on note at the top of the ordering board. Both my friend and I felt it was excellent food in an atmosphere of crowded, noise....in that sense reminded me of Pam Biche, but not quite as crowded. I now understand why my daughter (who lives close by) orders ahead for pick-up.

I have a VRBO and send all my guests there. The BEST and FRESHEST vegetable-based dishes, curries, salad wraps - You name it. This place is VERY popular so go at off hours or plan to wait for a seat. That being said, line moves fast (you order at counter) and it is worth every bite! Fabulous take-out and then you skip the line. Big portions and good prices for the quality. Casual vibe and seating, great for families or friends. Outdoor tables, too. I go so often you'll probably see me there. :)

Jade is located in a cute area and parking was no problem. You order at the bar when you walk in, which I didn't like very well as the menu is quite large. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We ate outside which was very pleasant in a covered patio. You can help yourself to water and you get your own utensils. We ordered salad rolls which were delicious and fresh but had too much lettuce for me. They cost $5. and we got 4 salad rolls which I thought was a good deal. I ordered a dish with eggplant and rice. The flavor was very good but I thought there was way too much eggplant and wished there were some fresh veges to cut the flavor. I could only eat half because it was just too much. It was nice to pay up front and the staff don't mind if you sit and visit for as long as you like. They also have an array of deserts which we didn't get and sandwiches and burgers.

I have celiac disease and I never get sick when I eat here! They have the tastiest gluten free pastries here, the ingredients are fresh, and the service is fast and friendly. Don't pass this gem up!

My girlfriend & I went here on a Tuesday night around 7 & the line was from the counter to the door. Most tables were full, but there was additional seating upstairs. Line moved a little slowly at first, but it gave us time to peruse the menu & decide what to order. I had the wide rice noodles with veggies & beef & she had the noodles cooked in chili sauce with chicken on a bed of romaine lettuce. Both were absolutely delicious & I was pleasantly surprised how fast our order was delivered to our table. We each washed our dinner down with a Reverend Nat's cider that was amazing as well! I highly recommend this place & will be back!

Took my friend here for lunch and really enjoyed it. The chicken and rice soup was great especially since it was a cold dreary day. The coconut shrimp skewers are a nice small snack. I will say I was disappointed with the truffle French fries but I don't blame them I blame me since it's not a place that specializes in fries. I will definitely go back

My mother and I were out hunting for the best macaroons in Portland and the Jade Bistro was on our list. While buying cookies there, we saw the bustling dining room and the very happy diners. We decided to return a few days later for lunch. The macaroons were very good and lunch was even better.Don't expect to be waited on here. You order and pay at the counter, they give you a number and you pick up your utensils and find a table. They have both inside and outside seating, and the place is very crowded and noisy-but when they bring you your food, you forget all about that. We started with the salad rolls with peanut dipping sauce. The rolls were freshly made and the dipping sauce had just the right balance and salty and sweet. I had the eggplant with shrimp and my mom had the garlic chicken with broccoli. Both lunches were a good size, had well made sauces and the vegetables and proteins were cooked brilliantly, really a spectacular lunch for both of us. What an interesting mix of food choices (Asian cuisine and French pastries) with a really attentive staff. Definitely a place to return to.

Visited with a local friend. Don't be deterred by the long line...It moves quickly and your food arrives promptly, too. The menu is diverse, making it a great place to bring a crowd with different interests and dietary needs. We had noodles and rice dishes and enjoyed them all.

Get any Thai dish! It's excellent! Eggplant is very tasty! I ordered the turkey sandwich and found it dry! But after dipping it in the eggplant sauce! It was fabulous!

Stopped here for lunch during a recent trip to the Portland area. Servings are large, food is delicious, and prices are reasonable! Order at the counter, find a table, and they'll bring you a bowl or plate of something tasty! Outdoor patio offers pleasant open-air seating. Yum!

Love this little gem of a place tucked away in SE! This is a casual place (you order at the counter at they bring the food to you) with a lot of charm. The GF and I have tried everything from the rice noodle stir fries, to the delicious curries, to the garlic shrimp, and the banh mi (Vietnamese baguette) sandwiches. Everything was fantastic! They naturally have a wide selection of teas and the guys at the counter even help you pick one out depending on what kind of food you order. And don't forget the fresh sesame ball pastries! The place does tend to get crowded and parking can be a bear during these times. Recommend getting there right when they open to avoid these hassles. You won't regret it!

This place was fantastic. The Beef and Carrot stew was one of the best meals I have ever had. Next time I am in Portland I will be back.

I was visiting a friend in Portland, and she suggested the Jade Bistro for lunch. Not familiar with the menu items, I asked her to order for both of us - whatever she liked. I don't recall both items ordered, but one was the Udon soup with chicken. We also split a large salad. All was tasty - especially with the plum(?) sauce added to it. The restaurant was not noisy which was good since we had lots to talk about. Looking at the menu later, there were a number of curries. If I get back there, I will likely try one. The Yellow Curry is especially tempting.

The food was so fresh, and well prepared. The pastry case looked really yummy but my lunch was enough, can't wait to go back and try some desserts. I did share some salad rolls which were very filling with the peanut sauce. The soups are amazing here. The menu has an eclectic variety of Asian inspired foods, felt very good eating such clean, healthy foods. Can't wait to try it again!

This was my first time at Jade In Portland's Sellwood neighborhood. They have a great outdoor patio but our walking group enjoyed the large tables on the second floor... bright and light. We especially enjoyed the oriental dishes... veggie and shrimp wraps, etc. You order at the desk and they bring your meal to you. Go early... there was a lunch line out the door as I was leaving after my early lunch. I will return!

Was recommended by couple we met who spoke very highly of the place. The salt and pepper fried squid was good and was accompanied with a tasty sweet dipping sauce. Truffle fries were good but could not detect any truffle flavor. The grilled halibut was more poached than grilled. It came with a peanut sauce and lots of steamed veggies that were good. The fried sesame ball had a caramel sauce for dipping and was very good. Orders are done at the counter then brought to table. Friendly staff. Overall good for the price. I recommend the restaurant.

Stopped here for a late dinner after a long day of seeing the sights and hiking. It was great. The food was good and the patio was great too. Highly recommended.

Ate here on the spur of the moment for dinner as we needed quick turnaround before work. It's an order at the counter have your food delivered to table place. Very cozy atmosphere. Beautiful wood finishes. Exceptionally clean. We had the beef noodle soup, a side of chicken satay and the truffle oil fries. The soup was good, fresh ingredients and enormous portions. We took home more than we ate. The satay was perfectly prepared with a nice accompaniment sauce. Truffle fries were fresh, hot, from real potatoes and delicious. Two soups, fries, satay and a pot of tea were $33.

We went to Jade Teahouse and Patisserie on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. We arrived at around noon on a Saturday and the place was packed. We were afraid we wouldn't be able to find a seat, but the staff will find one for you after you order. You aren't supposed to reserve your own table. We didn't know that and were gently admonished. Overall, the food was really good, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The place is fairly small, and very crowded. The prices are average. I got one of their noodle specials which you can only see at the register. I recommend any of the specials they have, even though their regular menu items are very good.

Jade is located in the heart of Sellwood. Parking is a breeze and the streets are well lit! When you walk in you will find tables and a quick order station: If you've never been before grab a menu and step aside. Let the locals order quickly while you are looking over the fantastic menu! I ordered the crab and shrimp fried rice, shrimp basil eggplant, a glass of white wine, sesame balls and a red velvet whoopi pie! My total was $34 and the flavor of my choices was 100%!! I HIGHLY recommend eating upstairs! After you order, grab your number and head up-- they will bring your food to you! Clean, yummy and quick!

We ate here few years ago but did not remember it well. Excellent, large portions. Order at counter, find seat, and they serve. We both liked our dinners. Ate outside, but inside is nice also. Sellwood main strip. Reasonable prices.

Ate here many times and had different items on menu, all were very delicious. Reasonably priced and friendly atmosphere. Sometimes during lunch and dinner hours there may be a long waiting line, but service is pretty quick. Highly recommended.

When you visit the Sellwood neighborhood make a point of eating at Jade. Quite impressed with the freshness of the seafood dishes. Lovely presentation and quick service for an order at the counter restaurant. Prices appropriate for quality of food served. Would go back in a minute when I visit again.

Long line to wait for table, very popular Sizzling seafood stir fry, pan fried chicken wings, and beef noodle soup Vietnamese pho

Jade has delicious food and interesting selections. Be forewarned that you order at the counter (usually there is a line), you're given a number, and you're dishes are delivered to your table. Water and drinks are self-served. It is absolutely worth a try. Outdoor patio seating in the summer, too!

Jade does have macarons and cupcakes (hence, the patisserie part) probably to go with its huge selection of teas, but it is the food that makes people line up at this Sellwood restaurant. Ordering is at the counter and food is brought to the nice wooden tables, which are far enough apart to be comfortable. It did not seem excessively noisy to us. There is also outdoor seating on the side, not the sidewalk. Food was very good, with some unusual selections, such as salmon, and portions were generous. The theme seems to be Vietnamese, but there are many dishes, including several curries, so probably Asian is the best general description..we will go back...the food was good, service was prompt and friendly, and the decor is sleek and calming. Prices were reasonable (entrees $10-15 generally) and menu is on their website.

What a great place to stop for lunch! This was our first visit and we are smitten! Service was efficient and very friendly. The food was perfect! I chose their fresh salad rolls that were honestly the best I've ever tasted! This is an item I typically order at Vietnamese and Thai restaurants. I don't believe I've ever tasted any that were any crispier or fresher than theirs! Peanut sauce was nice and thick with great flavor! To go along with this appetizer I asked the gentleman taking my order what he would recommend. One of the items he mentioned was the Grilled Pork Vermicelli salad. It was amazing! The light tart and sweet dressing made it sing! To complete my order I chose a Sesame Ball with caramel sauce. Oh my goodness, gracious! I will be back to try more from their menu! My husband loved his Lao pad thai!

We had eaten at this place before and had wonderful meal. Jade provides minimal service with counter ordering and self seating. This last time, the food was atrocious. The burger I ordered was greasy and undercooked, even after asking for it well done. The garlic shrimp was drowned in an oyster sauce and was lacking in any garlic flavor. It was a terrible value, but the owners must not care since the place is packed most of the time.

Jade is one of our favorite restaurants in Sellwood, a family-owned business that strives to serve their customers well. The restaurant itself is very attractively and colorfully designed. The Thai/Vietnamese food is delicious with several selections for vegans and vegetarians. You stand in line to order and the friendly wait staff brings the food to your table. The salad rolls are out of this world and the sesame balls are a real treat! Definitely give Jade a try. You will not be disappointed.

We had a delightful dinner at Jade this evening. We are staying this week in the Sellwood neighborhood, and this was right around the corner from our bungalow. We shared a small plate of tapioca dumplings, which were delicious, although somewhat chewy. D had Caramelized Pork and I had Basil Eggplant with Chicken. They were both delicious!! We also enjoyed a nice bottle of Pinot Blanc (which we'd never had...) along with our meal. Love the concept: order your food and it is brought to you. Great, relaxed vibe. Want to return to try other yummy stuff!!!

This was our first time and loved it. My spouse had the coconut noodle soup which was enough for both of us. A bit spicey but just enough tang. I had the veggie and tofu rice noodles. Fresh vegetables from snow peas to broccoli and onions. Didn't need any sauce. The tofu was firm and tasty. The patio is a lot quieter than inside and there are long tables for big groups or sharing. The prices are more than reasonable and each serving size is shareable. The only downside is that you stand in line to order and you need to fetch your own water and silverware. Staff is helpful but there really is little service to comment on.

Jade Bistro Teahouse is a real gem (pun intended). This place really rocks. Hidden in the Moreland neighborhood of SE Portland, Jade is not a place that I would normally think of going. A very good friend lives in the neighborhood and recommended we try it out. Oh my gosh - we have been missing out. The walk-up, order at the counter style should not deceive the foodies out there - this is no "lunch counter" place. It is a wonderful pan-Asian mix of flavors and dishes with a true emphasis on quality. We had a delightful meal that included green papaya salad, sautéed green beans and a fantastic rice noodle and broccoli main course. It was a great mix of the savory and the sweet. The location is a bit of the beaten track, but the food selections and the attentive service (the owner is delightful) make it worth the drive (for those of use that live in the downtown area). Give this place a try - it is well worth it.

Smallish place with great decor and amazing food! Beware the chix satays are $8 for a reason - there's a ton of chix! Also recommend the garlic shrimp (you will want to lick the plate) and sesame beef with sticky jasmine rice. Excellent jasmine rice - best ever. Beef as well - complex flavor palate that I could enjoy every day of the week! Enjoy!

Jade used to be a smaller, family-owned place. It was fantastic - the best ever. It's still very good despite dealing in a larger volume. I don't know how they maintained the high quality, but they did. The only downside is that as a larger restaurant, it's a busy and noisy place.

I have eaten at Jade a lot of times - and every time it is excellent. We have had a good number of the things they make and they are always excellent. The atmosphere is nice, and the decor is Asian with a Portland twist. The kitchen is Vietnamese, but very hip Vietnamese And it is always busy - so plan accordingly. I LOVE JADE! PS: The service is just above lousy, it's almost like they want you to bus your own table - but don't, just ask the wait people to keep your table clear of dishes as they stack up.

We enjoyed a meal with extended family who frequent this restaurant. We see why. From the appetizers (pork spring rolls and salad rolls) to our main courses (mine was stir-fried rice noodles), everyone reported their food was excellent. Prices are in line with the neighborhood. Food arrived promptly. I understand the pastries are good, but we didn't try them. Would return.

Glad we were told about this place. As others have said, place your order, take your number, find a seat and enjoy. Very friendly and helpful staff. Place is clean and the food is fantastic. Wished we lived nearby One of the best Thai restaurants we have visited.

Jade came highly recommended but we were disappointed it a couple of ways. 1. This place is LOUD 2. They are busy so the staff really pushed us to order something to keep the line moving. 3. Dirty, sticky tables, we had to clean our own, even after asking the busboy and a server for assistance. 4. Server was having an off day, she brought the wrong food, was rude when we had to take it downstairs to return it ourselves and was rude when asked about the table cleaning. The food was pretty good. Another reviewer mentioned the noodles being sweet, they were. Not sure what the big attraction is to Jade, maybe just the proximity to a nice homey neighborhood and folks here have gotten use to it. I wouldn't drive across town for it.

This place is so good. I come back here month after month after month. From the decor to the desserts to the main courses, I love everything about this place. Lots of gluten-free options, but the glass noodles are by far my favorite. And, try the wedding cake if you get a chance. Along with the macaroons, sesame cookies, iced coffee....so good!!!

I had glass noodles with shrimp and cabbage. Tom had a great pork sandwich. Lovely outside patio seating. Our dog food be with us there outside which was nice. Very social atmosphere. Reasonable prices. You order at the counter, grab a number and they bring to you. Very good.

My wife and I are there almost every week. SE Asian inspired food that is very fresh and they also have wonderful baked goods. Sesame balls with honey and the macaroons are must haves for dessert.

The food here is great. Kind of Thai, Vietnamese fusion. The best thing about the place is the food - you wouldn't go for the service. You have to line up at the counter, place your order, take a number and find somewhere to sit. The food is then delivered to your table. Since my reason for going is always the food, and not for a romantic 'dining experience' it suits me fine.

Even though it was almost 5:00 on a Friday afternoon, there was NO line! So many options and different kinds of food it took a long time to decide. Anything from Thai to Vietnamese to freshly made macaroons to burgers and fries to special teas served in a pot with honey. We settled on Grilled Sesame beef with sticky rice and Pad Pug, (stir fry-all kinds of veggies and beef) and mango sticky rice and a sweet sticky sesame ball thing from the bakery that came with caramel sauce for dessert. With our teas it all came to $40 before tip. Order at the counter, find a table and they bring your food to you. It was all so fresh and flavorful and wonderful. We ate upstairs in the loft area, lots of wooden trim, floors and tables. The atmosphere is simple, clean, great NW casual contemporary. Very sweet, wonderful staff. I was checking out everyone else's food as I walked by and everything I saw looked like what I want to get next time. A new favorite, we'll be coming here more often. Many great shops to check out and coffee shops too, make it a perfect casual date night.

On our recent family visit we had the pleasure of eating at Jade. The food is delicious and authentic. It is as good as a great restaurant in Vietnam Nam!!! The soups, spring rolls and sandwiches are all perfect. And, their desserts are top notch, especially the macaroons like those in Paris! You need to be patient when going during prime times because there is a line to order and the food may take a while to get. But it is worth it!!

I've enjoyed all the scrumptious dishes I've ordered here. The Hum Bao! The Noodles! The beef salad! The sesame balls! *drool* I recommend trying the specials on the board. It's fun to order family style and share a few dishes. Also, when I have my Vegan mom with me, I know she will have plenty of options to choose from which is a relief because it's hard when you're enjoying a wonderful dish and they have to make due with the 1 salad on the menu.

This is a fabulous restaurant. The food is wonderful! Not to be missed if you are in Sellwood/Portland. Everything we have tried is great. My family and I go regularly.

I was in Portland for a Mother's Day celebration with my son and we chose Jade as a good spot for lunch. My outstanding restaurant karma was working well that day. Jade offers unique, delicious Asian food and pastries (a somewhat unusual combination) at very reasonable prices. The restaurant is in a great location near shops and in a lovely Portland neighborhood. There is an outdoor patio that is quiet and private. It is a place that I will go back to many times and look forward to visiting again. Outstanding in my book!

I come here every visit to Portland and wish there were one in San Francisco. Everything is bursting with flavor and freshness. There is often a line because the food is so great and versatile.

Dropped in for lunch. Owner was very helpful with the food choices, some tasty hand make drinks. Some of the best soup I have enjoyed. Frankly every thing looked good. we will be back for sure. Try it you'll like it.

Okay, once you get over the slow service (as others have mentioned), the food is excellent! Take a break from the Sellwood shopping to grab a Vietnamese meatball sandwich... you probably can't finish it (because it is so rich), but it is well worth the try! Top it off with an "Old Skool" Coke and an order of truffle oil fries and you have a wonderful meal! Good stuff, not too fast.. and a bit too busy.... but worth it!

If you're visiting Portland and have a car - Make the drive - it's worth it! This friendly neighborhood cafe has some of the Best Salad Rolls I've had in this city. I've tried nearly everything on their menu - and it's ALL good! Their pastries are amazing too! I wished there was one closer to my house!

We have been eating at Jade's since they first opened and it is our VERY FAVORITE! The food is so delicious and fresh and prepared so well, that we always feel great after eat. So many healthy choices! The owner and the staff are always so attentive, kind and helpful. It is so popular, that it gets very crowded, but you never feel that your order, or your questions don't matter. We love going to Jade when we need to feel "cared for".

We felt like Asian food...ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, it had a very unique taste and there was plenty. Two of us ordered crab and shrimp fried rice. Beautiful presentation, again plenty. Would like to eat in next time, cooled off by the time we got it home

This was my first time here. It is street parking, just be warned that can be difficult during busy times. You enter the restaurant and you must order and pay at the counter before taking a seat. I went on a Monday at lunch time and it was busy, but I didn't have any trouble finding a place to sit. It has wonderful shaded outdoor seating. I ordered a drunken chicken baguette, it was amazing. The baguette was easily 12" long and cost $7.00. A very good deal.

Food at Jade is always top quality. Very busy, so plan for this or consider take-out, the take-out area is always bustling. Deserts are excellent consistently. Due to number of diners, it can be noisy sometimes, but the food makes it worth it.

This is a wonderful place in the Sellwood area that deserves to be much better known. The Vietnamese-French menu has so many fabulous items on it, deciding what to order is always difficult. One orders at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. Service can be slow at times, but the wait is always worth it! The food is amazingly delicious!

On the advice of a friend who eats here often I met her for an early dinner. I was impressed with the ambiance and the menu as well as the semi self service. So I ordered the fried Tilapia with sautéed veggies and spicy sauce. Very large fish arrived looking crispy and tempting. Vegetables and sauce were lovely but after a few bites of the fish which was overcooked I was convinced of an odd flavor that tasted of bad oil or chemical residue. Not even the sauce could mask it. My friend took a few bites from different parts of top side of fish and agreed that it was not edible and urged me to alert the kitchen as this was not their usual quality. The waitperson informed me that the cook said it was not the oil and that I had eaten too much of the fish to receive any action from them to appease me. So I was left with $16 worth of white rice, a few veggies and some sauce for my dinner. She begrudgingly offered a pastry which I declined. I am a very tolerant person who rarely complains so I was left with an extremely bad feeling about this experience. Fortunately there are lots of other great restaurants I can choose from.

I went there for the first time a few days ago and I still have leftover food. I went with my younger neighbors and we all ate until we were so full. The food was amazing. The restaurant, while busy, had plenty of seating available and we got our meal without having to wait. I will be going back.

This is a small Asian restaurant with a wonderful menu and food that doesn't disappoint. You order your food, select your table and they bring your delicious food right to you. Service is quick. I try to get my friends to go here every time I visit - it's not hard to do!

Our family loves Jade. We have been eating there since the week they opened. The food is delicious - we love the Glass Noodles, Chicken and Rice Soup (a little bit like Congee). Our daughter devours the French Fries with Truffle Oil. Please be prepared to wait a bit. You place your order at the register and the food is brought to your table.

Very casual spot - order at the counter and seat yourself - at least at lunch it was. I had very tasty green beans and tofu lunch here, cute location and very crowded. My friend went for the Turkey sandwich and another friend had the Coconut soup which she just loved and was big enough for her to take some home with her!

If you have an hankering for well-prepared Asian-influenced food, come to this bistro. Thai, Vietnamese and burgers are available here. All are excellent. Beverages are diverse -- Kombucha, wines by the glass, multiple taps of craft beers, soft drinks. Deserts to die for. All served in an attractive, casual contemporary space in hip Sellwood.

We have been to jade several times over the past few years, and have always loved the food there, last night was a travesty. I had tried calling in an order and all lines were busy, it was a very busy night for them, I got that, so walked in and ordered, told 20 minutes, 35 minutes later i got my food, which would have been fine if the food was actually good, it was not. I ordered the panfried wings, i have had them before and they were caramelized and crispy and tasty, last night they were barely cooked enough to eat and all the sauce that was supposed to caramelize the outside was a wet mess in the bottom of the container. We had also ordered the special pork vermicelli salad, which while wasn’t bad per se was short about half of the usual pork rolls it always had before. So very disappointing will try dining in again maybe, but never takeout again.

I love Jade Teahouse. The offerings are somewhat electic - mostly southeast asian. The owner can sometimes be a little cranky, but when you consider the quality of the food and the low prices, it's always a pleasure going there. Try the curries, the glass noodles, and the spring rolls. Everything is made in-house from scratch.

I ate here with a friend and was really pleased with the food. I had the coconut rice noodle soup. It was full of chicken and the taste was just a delicious blend of coconut, lemongrass, and hot pepper. We also shared the truffle fries and they were very good. I agree with the other reviewers that this place is so busy the service suffers a little. The table don't get cleaned and the staff seems hurried. But the menu is really varied, prices cheap, and the food is great, so I recommend it highly.

**written via notes taken day-of experience - exact date removed for privacy Wow. Just rude all around rude people. Here's a bit of context: Portland is divided up into neighborhoods. Jade is located in the Sellwood 'neighborhood' a really ritzy, well-to-do place where people have cash to spend, absolutely no problem. With that said, why tailor service to any average Joe or Jane? Of course, you have a line of paying well-to-do customers each and every day. So, me, just a Jane travellin' about, why would you care about me? Well - they don't! Jade doesn't care about you unless you are a well-to-do regular who lives in the neighborhood. When I arrived, I was here about an hour PRIOR to the place closing - ample time. I desired to sit upstairs, and was given a dirty look from the cashier. Well, the downstairs was literally packed and people had kids, Americans were loud American drunk. Simply, I desired some peace. I go the go-ahead to go upstairs. Oh, and why was I speaking to a cashier before ordering? Good question! Jade is a 'pay before' you eat place? Strange. I can now see why, though. Had I not paid prior, I would have NOT PAID. Re-read that - I would have left you pennies on the table. The dish I ordered was made well, and actually quite tasty - a stirfry rice dish. The Americans upstairs, still, were so drunk and loud and I could have literally TRANSCRIBED the entire sensless cackling between these two buffon OBESE females just plopped there and blah blah blah. About a HALF AN HOUR prior to 9:00 pm the worker were putting up chairs. I mean really? How sloppy. Anytime I had ever worked in the 'service industry' when I was younger, the rule was that we stay open until the last customer leaves. We would take orders UNTIL 9:00 pm in this case, and then close thereafter, accordingly. I felt rushed to leave, and the food wasn't settled in my stomach. I felt that the next morning. So yeah, WAY TO TAKE people's cash, Jade. The meal I had was $12.50, too, and the portions were skimped. I expected nothing less after sampling the Thai places here in Portland, Oregon. Why go above and beyond when your competition is skimping, too? Most people wont notice, you think? Well, guess what - I sure did. Dining in is supposed to be an experience, and I would have given you what you DESERVE - as in ZERO for you rushing me out, and ruining my evening after a long day.

First off, the food is second to none and as locals we think it may have become too popular too fast. That being said, despite long waits when it's busy, the food is well worth it, well priced and just deliscious. If you're visiting Portland, it's in a fabulous little neighborhood perfect for wandering and shopping.

On our first night in Portland, we visited Jade as it was recommended to us by friends who recently visited. I loved the look of the neighborhood and went inside to find it was very cute and quaint. If there was a downside, it would be that you stand in line to place your order and then find a table, but even that wasn't bad. I ordered the wide rice noodles with chicken. Yum! I'm not sure that I'll ever have thai food that tasty again. It was perfect. I'm also not super adventurous with beer, but since I was in Portland, I couldn't not drink beer. I had no idea what I wanted so I just asked the cashier to pick one for me. I have no idea what it was but I loved it! We sat outside and had a chance to do a little people watching. Several customers who went inside seem to be locals and regulars. We saw several people leave their dogs leashed to a table, which we very much enjoyed. This felt like a very local experience and it seemed to give us a great taste for everyday life in Portland. I'll definitely go back!

If you love the flavors of Thai food, that are delicate, light and sometimes unpredictable...this place is for you! I had the special of the day-pork and crab udon soup and it didn't disappoint! The broth was amazing, full of flavor, and the pork and crab were the perfect additions to this soup. Also the noodles were special...rice and tapioca made for the perfect blend of chewy deliciousness! It's a small restaurant and fills up quickly, so if you can get there before noon, you should be able to find parking and a table:)

Met a friend here for lunch. It was a constant line since it opened...busy, busy! Everything looked delish. Portions are huge so bring an appetite. They have amazing list of teas. We loved the tranquility tea with salad rolls and minced chicken entree. Plenty for the two of us sharing one of each. They have desserts too but we were too full. Great ambiance. Wonderful, soothing background music when you can hear it. Busy= noise from lots of patrons. Great labels to note vegan, gluten free, etc. I love that...saves me asking tons of questions to staff. Can't wait to go again!

Came here because it was reviewed as a restaurant that was friendly to dietary requirements - we are low carb and dairy intolerant. We both had soup that was DELICIOUS - large portions, fresh ingredients and a very good price for both. They made our soups tailored to our requirements (no noodles for low carb). We came for a late lunch around 3pm and they were still fairly busy, so clearly people know this place is good. We didn't have any bakery items, but they were super tempting. Would highly recommend and definitely would like to return very soon.

Jade has a menu that has a wide variety of interesting Asian or fusion Asian dishes and sandwiches, which have always been very good. And lots of desserts; one that is perhaps more intriguing than good is a sphere of dough (fried or maybe baked, I can't quite tell) that's covered with sesame seeds and served with a sweet sauce. I don't know if that dessert has an Asian origin; their other desserts are generally American or European. You order at the counter and sit down at a table and they bring your food over. There are two downsides: this place seems to always be very crowded during lunch. If it's too cold or rainy to eat outside, there is not very much table space inside. Quite frequently I see that the lines are long or there's no space to eat, and end up going somewhere else. (Less than half a block away is Mekong, a restaurant with a more limited menu but food that's just as good and that I have never seen crowded.) Even at 1:30 on a weekday it can be hard to find a space to eat. Arriving a little before noon however might work. And although the service at the counter is helpful and friendly, the table service sometimes forgets to bring one of the items that you ordered. In short, the menu is fantastic and the food is good, but the overall experience is not as excellent.

If you're looking for a great little lunch, check out Jade Teahouse on SE 13th Ave. This unpretentious gem has really solid food at a reasonable price. There is no table service here, you seat yourself and they clean up after, but the delicious food keeps the locals pouring in. Be sure to try the fried rice. It's killer. They also have great tea and local microbrews on tap. It doesn't get much better that that!

Delicious food, fun atmosphere, friendly staff. There were six of us, each had a tasty meal, from seafood to chicken to wide rice noodles.. Also good appetizers.

We live in the neighborhood and visit Jade about once a month. The food is always exceptional and, even though the restaurant is usually very busy, we always find seating. My wife loves the caramelized pork. I love the pad thai and any of the curries. The portions are generous and we almost always have leftovers for lunch the next day.

Jade is very close to where we live, so we feel very lucky. While, as many reviewers have said, it is noisy the food is great. A blend of Vietnamese, Thai and SE Asian with some lovely sweets for good measure. The food is always good, although the service can be a bit lacking if they are busy. There is outdoor dining in the summer months.

My wife and I ordered 2 main dishes and a small dessert. After paying, I thought the price was a little higher than I expected but didn't pay much attention and went to our table. After waiting a few minutes, I checked out the receipt and found that my dish (Basil Eggplant), which I swore was $10 on the menu, was charged at $12. I checked the menu to make sure I didn't remember wrong. I didn't. So I went to the counter and pointed out the mistake. The cashier was kind enough and did her best to resolve the issue, but clearly her hands were tied. She walked out from behind the register and spoke with a man sitting at the first table, apparently the manager. She returned to the counter and asked me if I had received the food yet. It had come just during this conversation, so I said yes. She responded that unfortunately they would not be able to do anything. I asked her a few more questions but it was obviously not up to her so I went directly to the managerial looking dude sitting at the table. I re-explained the situation, pointing out the very clear $10 on the menu and $12 on my receipt to make sure he understood. He did. Asked him why he thought it was OK to charge a different price than on the menu, and refuse to correct the mistake. His response "This is all because Oregon's minimum wage has gone up." Seriously? I pressed more and asked how Oregon's minimum wage caused them to change the price in the system before changing it on the menu, and how the change in minimum wage could lead to his denying this easy-to-fix request for a measly $2 to make it right. His response: "It was the employee's mistake." I asked how this could possibly be the employee's mistake: she keyed in the right menu item, the system automatically applied the price it was set for. He said: "It's like this everywhere now, all across the board with Oregon's minimum wage rising." Upon pressing further, I was told that if I didn't like it I could leave, and then that I should take it up with the Oregon Department of Labor. So... buyer beware! Apparently Oregon's rising minimum wage is forcing managers to act like complete pricks, throw their employees under the bus, and refuse the simplest act of kindness in correcting mistakes for their customers. That Oregon Department of Labor sure is vicious! The cashier later came out to apologize, but she had nothing to really apologize for. Apparently, the "employee's mistake" that the manager was referring to was whomever created/printed the menu and entered the wrong price for that dish. Don't care. Not my job as a customer to beware of that, also not the cashier's job to fix it. Manager's job to make it right, acknowledge, and get the error corrected so that no other customers have this discrepancy. But apparently, blaming minimum wage and making customers and other employees responsible for one person's mistake is this manager's course of action. Business owner: if you're reading this, fire your manager. He doesn't deserve his job. Your customers and employees will thank you. That guy takes the wages of others lightly, but clearly doesn't deserve his own. As long as he's the manager, you've lost two good customers.

I came here with a couple of girlfriends whilst on a girl's trip a few weeks ago. It was near our fabulous airbnb tiny house, and we ate here more than once, because I was traveling with a hard core meat eater and a vegan (god help me), and they have options for both. We tried several things on the menu and loved everything. I have a special place in my heart for those steamed buns, and they have one stuffed with veggies, and it was delicious!! The vegan soups we tried were phenomenal as well. Oh, and the best part about our visit was that we saw a pregnant woman breastfeeding a toddler while drinking a beer. I love Portland.

This place reminded me of a Thai food cart with nice indoor seating. I mean that in a good way. The curries (yellow and red), salad rolls, lemongrass chicken and other items we had were all great. We were adventurous and tried the carmelized pork, which was way too salty for everyone's taste in our group. Lunch costs at about $10-14 per dish was a good value. They were pretty busy on a Sunday, but were able to get the food out quickly to our group of 12. I would come again if I was in the area.

If you are reviewing to decide and you like food you won't be sorry you chose this restaurant. In a peaceful neighborhood where the only concern should be parking. Even when busy provided thoughtful and expedient service. Even the burgers are extraordinary! Fries were perfect to the 10 of us who stole samples from my niece. The Thai food was cooked extraordinarily well from the curry to the shrimp.

My last review of Jade was based not on the wait to order (which they can't do much about without opening up a second cash register), but on the length of time it took to receive our order. We've been to Jade now three times in the past three months and on each occasion the service has been just fine. The food is phenomenal (though the broth in the Pho could be a little more tasty) and there are tons of gluten free options. I most recently had the odon noodle soup and it was wonderful. The sesame balls are a real treat (you gotta dip them in the sauce), and the macaroons are fabulous as well. Yes, it's crowded, but that's because it's really, really good!

Tasty dining. It took an unreasonable time to be served, but dinner was tasty. Pleasant outside dining.

Two couples each one having a different dish. Each was good and plentiful but none, made it to the wow zone. Always looking for a gem, unfortunately this didn't make that list for me.

Visited some time ago but didn't get around to writing the review until now. This place is in the Sellwood area of Portland so finding parking can be challenging in peak dining hours. Visited with my family and my Mom and we had a great meal there. The ordering is done when you enter the restaurant and you get a number and you find a seat in the restaurant or out in the patio. Since we visited in the summer time we sat outside where there are tables and chairs. They deliver the food and drink to your table. Since it had been a while since we visited I can recall that the portions are fairly large and good for sharing. We shared the crab rice I think and it was definitely enough to share for 2. My youngest got a burger and didn't eat much of it but I tried it and it was quite good as they seasoned the burger with something more than salt and it was good... my kid is really picky but she was ok with the fries. We got the gluten free spring rolls and they were quite good. Definitely a place we would return to and thus recommend if you are in the mood for some asian inspired cuisine.

Stopped here for lunch with family. Wonderful curry, sandwiches, yummy burger and amazing sweet treats. Can't wait to come again.

Everyone raves about the food, but having to deal with the abrupt service, bad attitudes, and general lack of organization doesn't make this place worth the wait.

This place was recommended by the owners of our nearby short term rental, so we were excited to try it out. Unfortunately it was one of the more disappointing meals we've had in Portland so far. I had a Vietnamese style vermicelli bowl entree with shredded pork. Noodles were too thick & over cooked, something in the sauce tasted like soap, and the pork was so desperately overcooked I couldn't even chew about half of it. My companions both had the "fresh" wide rice noodles and reported they were cloyingly sweet. I didn't taste, but they also looked quite greasy to me. I would not eat here again, except maybe to try their pastries, some of which looked like they might be pretty tasty.

Third time here and the food was just as consistently amazing as before. Three of us thoroughly enjoyed chicken sate & salad rolls with peanut sauce, huge pho with all the trimmings, Vietnamese noodle salad with pork and crispy egg rolls and a carrot cupcake with a gorgeous pile of frosting and marzipan carrot on top for dessert. Very affordable and we brought home lots of leftovers to boot. Everything we ordered was so fresh, colorful and full of flavors. I almost ordered a burger and fries after seeing a woman's plate when we arrived, it looked like a damn good burger, even though they specialize in Asian food. Can't wait to come back.

Some of the best vegan food I have had at a restaurant ever. Great food, a good value, and a number of vegan items on the menu.

Food was so-so and nothing special. The restaurant seems overrated for what you get. They take your order at the counter and bring your food out to you. Perhaps the kitchen is too small because we waited for quite a while for our food.

Jade has some of the best Asian fusion food in town. It's usually packed and you have to stand in line to place your order, which on busy days can take up to 20 minutes in itself. Not a place you're going to just pop into for a quick lunch. Once your food arrives, however, all is forgiven because it is divine. Don't miss the rice vermicelli salad and too many other specialities to list.

Jade Teahouse is tasty mix of great food, ample portions and moderate prices. This is a fun casual dining experience with something for everyone. The dining area is bright and sparkling and the wheel chair access easy. Not to miss items include the fried pork spring rolls and the coconut rice noodle soup (with shredded chicken and crab). This is a deep menu with many wide noodle stir fries and the like for future visits. Warning though - make it a point to revisit the order counter and take home a box of macaroons. The pistachio macaroon and the mocha macaroon are favorites. The almond cookies are intensely flavored with a chewy center. Fantastic finish to a great meal.

We ate here last night. We ordered the seafood special (it was a spicy stirfry with catfish, squid and shrimp), the salt and pepper squid appetizer and the green beans with garlic. Everything we ordered was delicious. All staff members we interacted with were very nice. The macaroons looked great but we did not have dessert. We look forward to eating here again. PS: The strawberry lemonade was amazing! www.riderbymyside.com

The Jade Teahouse has excellent food. We've eaten there several times and haven't been disappointed by the flavors or cost. It is not, however, a place for a relaxing, leisurely meal. The tables are very close together, and it is extremely noisy. Next time I think we'll try take out.

We always get the Stir Fried Rice Noodles and add warm peanut sauce (doesn't come with it), as well as the Yellow Curry. Jade has always been consistently good over the years, but yesterday? Not so much. Their version of Pad Thai is Stir Fried Rice Noodles, and comes with some veggies and your choice of protein. The shrimp was waaay overcooked and tasted old, there were no veggies, and the warm peanut sauce is usually thick and creamy but instead looked like brown water that hardly tasted like anything. The Yellow Curry was too spicy, and the potatoes weren't cooked all of the way through. The rice container that comes with it was only filled half way. Very disappointing for a $70 meal.

Met a group of friends here. Everyone loved it. Easily found seating for 9 upstairs. Longish line, but food came in good time, so worth it. Great gluten free options including tiny desserts!

There aren't too many restaurants I always want to return to, time and time again. I'm always up for Jade Bistro. It's Asian fusion and has a nod to many Asian cultures. But has a fantastic burger and truffle fries. This time I switched from my usual and tried the sweet potato noodles (which look and taste like thicker glass noodles) stir fried with veggies and beef. Sooo good! We always get a side of shrimp chips and a cookie or cupcake from the pastry display. Salted caramel macarons were delicious, the lemon cookie, chocolate cookie and carrot cupcake are also our favorites. My husband's favorite dishes here are the mango chicken and the beef pho. But really, EVERYTHING is wonderful and the atmosphere is fun and beautiful outside with the flowers and gardens hanging all around.

I visited here with a friend who is on a gluten free diet. We found an ample amount of tasty dishes to choose from. We dined early an a Friday night and we were able to order and seat ourselves pretty quickly. The woman who took our order at the counter was friendly and helpful. Even though it is a seat yourself venue, this place still has a nice ambience. There was a steady stream of people so we were glad we got there early. We started our meal with their shrimp and chicken salad rolls. They were fresh and delicious! Next, we had the papaya salad with shrimp. The papaya was tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The shrimp was a bit over cooked and a little tasteless. Our last dish was a fried rice with crab and a dome of scrambled egg. This was amazing and not only beautiful but very flavorful. I would definitely return to try other dishes!

When Lucy Eklund discovered she was gluten intolerant, every similarly situated diner in the area had reason to celebrate. Lucy and her daughter April opened this Vietnamese restaurant in the Sellwood neighborhood on Portland's Eastside. The format is casual -- you order at a front counter and the food is brought to you at a table -- and everything except the baguettes is sans gluten. And the cuisine? Delicious (and then some), inventive (with touches of France and Laos, and modestly priced (especially if you select several dishes to share). My spouse is the "glutenard" (to borrow a term from one fellow diner on a rent visit) but I am more than happy to go along for this ride. It has become one of our favorite restaurants in Portland (which says a lot).

I come here with different friends whenever in Portland , it’s alwys delicious and the portions are good, the chicken coconut noodle soup is a must and their salad rolls are filled and fresh, the service is fast and with a smile,

Love the food here! Don't let the line keep you from stopping in. It goes fast and they have seating available upstairs that you might not be aware of.

I wish I could lie and not recommend so that I could have the place to myself. Even the bistro burger is dreamy and I’m not one to like hamburgers. You will want to eat here everyday, including Sunday when they are closed. Order ahead and pick up because it’s a very busy place.
AMAZING!!! (come early!)
You cannot go wrong with Jade. Lovely owners and just simply amazing food. Great value. No table service which means you stand in line, order, then sit with a number. This is fine if you get there early. Always a line out the door which is a testament to the food. Call in the food to go if you don't want to wait in line!
