This is a big and successful restaurant and has been for well over a century. The reasons are simple - good seafood, fair prices, honest bar and excellent service. And the old fashioned ambiance is pleasant. We ate there on a rainy February weeknight and expected to get a table easily, but booked anyway and went early. Just as well - the restaurant was packed. I had some type of groundfish, with a crab and whisky sauce and my wife had her favorite razor clams. Both dishes were delicious. Our server was helpful, without giving any hint of condescension, impatience or the usual "I am your server BS" - she was a pro. I'll certainly eat there again, when next in Portland.

We ate lunch at Jakes today as a family. I got the seafood Alfredo pasta, my kids got the kids salmon with beurre blanc sauce, and my husband got the stuffed salmon, and we shared a Dungeness crab cocktail. Everything was so delicious!! Hands down our favorite place to eat in Portland.

My parents took my children and me there when they visited from Michigan. The food is always excellent, the service professional, and tables set with white table cloths. I have taken family and friends there when they visit.

Dinner at Jake's certainly fit our preferences well. The seafood was delicious as were the cocktails, wine, and desserts. The service was impeccable. We had reservations; however, they were not necessary on the night we were there. Highly recommended.

Many years since we’ve met friends in Portland and Jake’s didn’t disappoint. Same good atmosphere and welcome as always. After drinks & tasty calamari at the bar, we ate in the restaurant. I enjoyed the Dungeness crab & bay shrimp cakes, delicious & very filling. My husband enjoyed the halibut. Great service and a fun night out.

Amazing history and story and amazing service .. the flavour fell a bit short but only as we maybe compared it to something from the night before .. still well worth the visit for the iconic history of the building and business

Jake's is your standard historic American seafood restaurant. Its indoor ambience is fancy white linen serving mostly tourists. Outdoors has bistro tables on the streets for people looking for open air dining during COVID times. During our experience we had great service from who we assume was the restaurant manager, or one of them and also from a selection of food runners and bussers. Our waiter was something else - while we found his sense of humor fun and sarcastic - he was a little too honest about his lack of experience with certain items on the menu. One of the members of our party enjoys being a "foodie" and she didn't feel her expectations were being met. All in all it was a good meal, and a nice evening. Although restaurants like this are not my thing, I'm glad I experienced it, and would still recommend to another person.

Loved Jakes, which had come highly recommended by Portland friends. The seafood bouillabaisse was amazing, as was my partner's stuffed salmon. Perfect Manhattans were served (not really as easy as everyone thinks it is to get a good Manhattan) and the service was excellent. Yes, it is a tad expensive but given the quality, atmosphere and service, it was worth it! We were there early and it appears reservations would be advisable if arriving 6:00 or later.

Huge restaurant. Our server,‘Stephanie, was friendly and provided delicious recommendations. For apps, we had the mussels and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were huge and we found the mussels a little underwhelming. They also advertised a tequila week on their website that none of the staff knew about. For dinner however, we found our dishes to be spectacular. I had the steelhead trout, the best trout I have ever had. Would definitely recommend it. Also my wife has the seafood fettuccini. Also delicious and large sized portions. They ever gave us a free dessert for our honeymoon. Classy move.

Was surprisingly underwhelmed by this long-time Portland stand out. Used to be THE place to take friends and family when they came into town for a visit, but the shine is off this rose now. It’s still got the quaint, old timey portland vibe, with bird’s eye maple tables, dark wooden booths and frescoes of woodland mountains, but the food and the service have slipped. Prices are high considering what else is available in town... if I’m paying 20$ for 6 oysters, they better be succulent and sweet. Three of mine were, shall we say, slightly gamey? Unforgivable in a fresh oyster. And the boulliabaise (sp?) was mediocre. Yes, the portion of shellfish was generous. But my crab was improperly cleaned and still had some of its lungs attached. In this day and age, in this city, in a restaurant with Jake’s reputation, this is an amateur maneuver. And while I appreciate the chatty waitstaff offering suggestions, why have so many items to choose from if the waiter is only going to push you towards the specials? When we asked about the gumbo (it is called jakes crawfish restaurant after all), we were told not to order it since crawfish weren’t in season — yet there were 2 in my boulliabaise. So I’m eating frozen fish in one of the supposed best seafood restaurants in town? Why not just leave them out? And the bay shrimp, too. Throw in more regular shrimp or prawns and skip the little guys. They just float about in the bottom making it lumpy. What’s the point? Too much tomato broth, not enough saffron and wine. And the waiter forgot to give me crab crackers so I had to fight my way into my (well stuffed) claws with my fish fork and bare hands. There weren’t even extra wipes for my fingers until I was finished. Then I was brought a warm cloth and lemon for my sticky fingers. That was fine, but a bit better would have been both — wet wipes if I wanted them while I ate, and a towel when I finished. I mean, they give you a bib, so why not a way to wipe your fingers? My companion’s dishes were better, but still not as sparkling and spectacular as previous visits. We were told they’ve been bought by Texas giant, Landry’s. It seems becoming one with the corporate giant hasn’t been so good for quality and attention to detail. Sorry for those who have been loyal customers and staff al these years. She’s taken a step down from her former glory. Stop in for a taste of what Portland used to call “The Best in Town,” but seek for that elsewhere.

Family or friends dinner this sea and land restaurant is a very good choice! An ancient vibe with very good attention. Crawfish, clam showder and Jake's salads are great entrees, chicken masala, trouch and seafood fettuccine delicious food options. Accompany with a Prosecco sangria, Italian wine or an old fashioned.

My wife and I enjoyed every aspect of our meal at Jake's. I ordered the halibut and she ordered the NY strip steak. Both of these meals were fantastic. The drinks were also very good. Topping off the fantastic meal were great desserts (creme brulee and banana cream pie). I was glad to have eaten at Jake's.

Like stepping back in time. The historic restaurant has retained much of its original decor. It’s a busy place. Reservations a must for dinner. They also have a wonderful happy hour with reduced prices on drinks and small plates. Service impeccable and food fresh and delicious. Save room for dessert.

First we were surprised at the place in general. Thought it would be more like a fish house but it is much more elegant. Had wonderful service. Had fresh oysters which were quite good. My wife had the sautéed sea scallops which were nice and firm and sweet. I had the petrole sole which also was quite good. We started off with martinis that we made to perfection. Ended the dinner with the three berry cobbler with French vanilla ice cream- that was awesome. The crust was so lite it melted in your mouth. That along with a glass of procesco was a perfect end to a wonderful meal.

Jakes is Jakes. Some attributes of menu are like LARGE Chain. Prices NOT cheap but the ambiance of OLD Portland makes it a landmark,

Service is excellent. Drinks are well mix and food is as expected, perfect. It os a little pricey but it is worth. Ambiance is nice come and cozy. Came here with good friends and did not regret anything.

We made the mistake of going in Dec when it seemed like every business was having some type of corporate Party of their own. I also didn't realize that this was a restaurant that was a division or bought out by McCormick and Schmidt's (sp?)...I probably wouldn't have eaten here, since I enjoy the one in LA. I really thought this was a local Seafood place that had local crab... In any case when we finally sat down..we were famished and luckily the food was good.

Excellent menu items, a knowledgeable server and lovely stained glass and woodworking galore. I had the shrimp cocktail and the Etoufee. Wonderful!

Some of the reviews were up and down but 4 of us could not say anything but fantastic. The restaurant has a great ambiance; the staff were all so friendly and so attentive and everyone loved their meals! It was for my birthday and the staff went out of their way to make the whole experience so special, right down to cake and candle.

Had fish and chips. Cod crust was burnt. Slaw was pretty tasteless. Waitress was distracted and didn’t engage (ask how dinner was?) Other couple said dinner was good.

After 125+ years, one would think the service would be dialed-in a lot more. Waiter friendly and helpful, but visits were far apart. Dinner for two took almost 2 1/2 hours, mostly from the long waiting time between, well, everything. Calamari was excellent ! Both my wife’s stuffed halibut and and my NY steak were very good. One bad thing about dinner was the cold & stale bread before dinner. Waiter surprised us with an anniversary desert, chocolate something. Fantastic. All in all the food was above average, the slow service is the negative.

Wasn’t sure what I wanted to order but the server was exceptionally helpful and recommended a few things to us. He was spot on and the food was really good. Our deserved was very charismatic and attentive throughout without being too visible. Like a culinary ninja. Well worth the visit

If you appreciate historical sites and classic bars with friendly service, this is a great choice. The seafood is excellent as well.

Loved the atmosphere and the fish was very tasty. Had the clam chowder and then fish and chips. Husband had the lobster bisque and wild cod. Charming server Rob

We ended up here because we were going to Powell's and wanted to have brunch first. The two places we wanted to go had close to one hour waits. So, I knew this restaurant was likely overpriced, but large, so we would get seated and they had a big sign for brunch. We did get quickly seated. I ordered a florentine eggs benedict, my daughters each ordered the salmon hash, and seafood fettuccine. The poached eggs were overcooked, and honestly what stood out the most was the lack of seasoning. All of our meals were very bland. The coffee refills were few and far between. That said, it was all edible, and the service was fine. But not worth the price.

Arrived in Downtown Portland, out for a walk and found Jake's Famous Crawfish. It was early evening but very busy, even outside. We managed to get a table ok, and wine to relax. The menu was interesting, with lots of choices, and we liked everything we had. It was well worth the visit.

Went to dinner with coworkers while in Portland at a tech conference. Ordered the cold crawfish appetizer as well as our meals. The waiter came back and said they were out of the cold appetizer and only had the deep fried appetizer available. We declined. We also ordered their fresh catch selections including the sturgeon fillet and the planked salmon. They were quite good. Service was good. Food was a little pricey. Atmosphere was fantastic as the restaurant and bar are well over 100 years young so wood and brick and lots of character.

This place was fine, but given the glowing reviews we were a bit disappointed. We ate outside on the patio so maybe the dining room experience is substantially better. But anyways, service was a tad rude and unprofessional. Food was okay, the crawfish weren’t great but we sort of expected that (just not a great seafood, really). Main issue was they were quite expensive for what you get. Oysters, we ordered four different kinds, one was great but one was downright bad and two were just fine. Dungeness crab cocktail was great. Salad was just okay. All in all it was fine but clearly overrated from our experience

Nice restaurant, excellent menu with many choices. I had the crawfish etouffe and my wife had the crawfish pasta. Both were good thought the etouffe rue was not a New Orleans style. Service was excellent. Best to get a reservation.

We had dinner at the restaurant and had a to go order. The waiter missed 3 items. Restaurant has filthy walls, and dingy carpet and out dated ambience.

We went with friends and had a wonderful time due to the ambiance, food and friendly service. Be sure to ask to join Laudry's Select Club for extra value.

My husband and I have always loved Jake's and have never had a bad meal or experience there. It's been a few years since we've been there, but it was still as good as ever. We ate there on September 17th, for my husband's birthday. My husband had the twin lobster tails that came with green beans and normally comes with roasted red potatoes, but he was able to sub for garlic mashed potatoes. The lobster was perfectly cooked and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the grilled halibut with a dill beurre blanc sauce, green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. My meal was the best I've had at Jake's. The fish was perfectly cooked. It was tender and flaked easily with a fork and not at all over cooked. The green beans were also perfectly cooked and not at all mushy. Since it was my husband's birthday, they gave him a piece of chocolate fudge cake. He also ordered a chocolate mousse for himself and I had the cheesecake with a berry sauce. It was all so good! Our server was nice and friendly and checked on us a few times throughout the meal. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

Three of us met here for an early dinner on a Thursday before a show. Happy hour (daily 3-6pm) is available in the bar area and outdoor seating on the sidewalk. We arrived at 4:15, and the bar area was nearly completely full, but we were able to get the last table outside (all tables were in the afternoon shade). Service was good, and we were able to order quite reasonable dinners (the etouffee and Cajun chicken sandwich were both $8.45). We would definitely come back and order more of their food specials from the same happy hour menu.

If you like the Old City feel, this is the place. We went early on a weekday, so the Sound Print dB check was only 60 dB, with a peak of 76. It would probably be louder at other times. I had the best deep-fried oysters I've ever eaten in my life. They were enormous. Now I'm ruined for eating fried oysters anywhere else, and this is one of my favorite foods.

This restaurant does what it says on the tin. An old style restaurant with a great atmosphere, good service and great food. What more can you ask? We had a lunch time drink at the bar and then returned for dinner which was all just great. I discovered post visit that it is part of McCormick and Schmicks which they do well not to advertise in my book as we decided to never visit any of their restaurants again after the rudest service ever at their restaurants.

Very well done seafood in a great atmosphere. Outstanding wait staff. Waitress Noriko was outstanding, attentive and efficient.

Came here for my last dinner in Portland. The staff is impeccably dressed, white tuxes and all. Food is delicious, all sorts of fresh fish on the menu. The stuffed halibut was delicious. A little pricey but expected with this kind of atmosphere.

We went out as 4 Out of 5, we rated this place: Great food. Flavor, presentation, quantity: 5 Service. Knowledgeable, friendly, timely: 5 Atmosphere/ ambiance. Vibe, decor, music: 5 Menu variety: 5, all seafood yet a wide menu Value for the money: 4, expensive but so tasty Overall: 5 Best thing/ must try: salmon stuffed with shrimp and crab with Brie sauce Dienstag Essen Verein, Portland branch

Beautiful place, fantastic service!!! We shared a Jake's house salad. I could eat this every day!!! There were 3 of us. I had the True Cod...it was good...pretty plain. I should have gone with the Sole in Lemon Caper sauce. My son had etouffee and it was good. Lots of fish. The winner by a mile was the Northwest Salmon Saute!!!! The wild mushrooms, hazelnuts, raspberries and sauce were fantastic!!! Next time!!!!

If you’re going to be in Portland, you have to go to Jake’s. The waiters wear white smoking jackets and black pants. This place exudes old fashioned charm. The fish is so fresh and with great variety. The restaurant is a historic institution for Portland so it has an old fashion charm. The wine list is fantastic which supports the great local pinot noir and pinot gris. I loved the sturgeon with chargrilled asparagus. Great stuff here.

I saw a review of this restaurant. It was close to our hotel, so we tried it. It has a deep rich wood interior. A little on the more formal side. The food prices were on par with other restaurants in the area that we tried. They have a varied menu. Their food is Excellent. For example, I had baked salmon stuffed with Dungeness crab, shrimp and a white sauce- the flavor combo was Awesome! The service was excellent. Our waitress Lauren introduced herself and made is feel ‘right at home’. She made menu suggestions and her recommendations on Oregon wine to go with our meal was Great! It was an excellent experience. I would go back there automatically. It seems reservations are a good idea. We got lucky without one 😁

My sister and I, upon recommendation of a friend of mine, stopped here on our last night in Portland. And it didn’t disappoint! We seated ourselves at the bar in lieu of waiting for a table, and our server was excellent! My sister got the cod fish and chips, and I ordered the tortellini with Gorgonzola and crab. Delicious and rich, it was enough for three. We finished our meal out with a bourbon hot toddy. Delish! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in PDX!

Ok. Now that it is owned by the landry group and not an independent. Had heard about its earlier/older reputation but it did not quite live up to it. It was good but no wow factor. Went there for thanksgiving and it felt like being in a food factory where tables were being turned as fast as possible. Avoid the chocolate bag dessert - its cream, cream and more cream - nightmare from hell if you have lactose issues - give it a wide berth and try the mini options instead.

We ate at Jake's for our last dinner in Portland. Started with a refreshing mojito, perfect for the gorgeous evening. Had the delicious house salad to start and could have easily split one serving. I ordered the seafood etouffee after reading the great reviews and enjoyed it very much. My husband went with a steak, perfectly cooked and tender. We skipped dessert and enjoyed people watching on Harvey Milk St. A nice way to spend the last night of our visit.

I love Jake's - it's where I always take out of town guests for fresh seafood. If you like oysters, they have one of the best selections in Portland. My favorite dish, however, is the catfish which is pan fried and served with a sweet yet spicy chutney. The service is perfect and the prices are fair considering the quality. (They also have a great happy hour menu!)

We had our annual family Christmas dinner at Jake’s Famous Crawfish last evening 10 people at 6:30pm. They located us next to a boisterous table of 12 men who were dropping F-bombs loudly in front of our three children. We complained to management and it improved somewhat. We had 1 waitress for both tables. She spent by far most of her time with the men. She was asked numerous times if we could have bread and after an hour it arrived. Our food when it finally came was cold probably from sitting in the kitchen unattended. Our waitress wore a mask and we struggled to understand her. We will be rethinking whether or not we will go back to Jake’s next Christmas.

Giving 2 stars here is more than Jake's deserves .... took out of town lifelong friends here for a dinner celebration, but the service was slow (on a Tuesday), and food was nothing like before Landry's took over. Our waitress was slow, rude, and made an error with one of my guest's request for dressing on the side, but acted annoyed when we asked (politely) if it could be corrected. My petrale sole was tough and had no flavor. The final blow was when our waitress gave the bill to one of my guests even though I'd indicated I'd be paying! Never again!!!

While I was waiting for my waiter to show up, another waiter engaged in a pretty loud (for my benefit?) conversation about trapping small animals in the woods. ??!! A) Why? Did you want a reaction from ME? Why? and, B) Whatever you do to others in your private life is none of my business. So why make it so? Loud conversations in public places are designed to get everyone's attention. We all know this. So, why? The WAITER egged them on saying HE was the MOST abusive of ALL. Why there was a most wanted poster of him in the post office, he quipped. HaHaHa. Cute. Again, why? Then MY waiter shows up with a wine glass that had someone else's kale stuck on the rim. When I told him the glass was dirty, he actually did not believe me! Uh... LOOK! It's HUGE. When he finally did look and saw it stuck there, he just shrugged it off. Laughed. Polished it for the next unsuspecting fool that has the misfortune to wander in there. I wasn't going to drink from any of their glasses after that. I left. But I see what's going on here. A certain "culture" has taken over a city restaurant and is flat out antagonizing guests that "look liberal". (I left my purple at home so I don't know how they knew. ??) The waiter, the one who likes to torture small woodland creatures, is old enough to know better. I'm assuming he is by his curly salt and pepper hair. Cocky attitude. Is it REALLY smart to antagonize innocent people who also happen to PAY YOUR BILLS? Wouldn't his boss, and boss' boss, like to know this is what's happening in their (I'm assuming) profit-driven establishment? Small-minded cruelty is the norm these days, I know, but this will pass. The boomerangs will find their way back to their sources and all will be corrected, in time. Until then, DON'T GO TO JAKE'S. It's filthy dirty in every sense of the word. And the dim children are running the show there. The old OLD dim children. Sad, I know, but don't get too sad. There are a MILLION OTHER RESTAURANTS you can go to. One's that CARE about ALL of their customers. Ones that know how to respect their clientele. Ones that actually WASH THEIR DISHES properly. Go there. DON'T GO HERE. You're not safe here. You're welcome.

Jake's Seafood is completely overrated. The restaurant interior is attractive enough even if it is a bit old-fashioned. The servers were attired in traditional uniforms and you suspect that this will be a delicious meal. I was going to order the etouffee, and I asked the server what she thought of that entree. She told me not to order it. I was a bit surprised and I decided to go in another direction. So I asked her what she recommended in place of it. And she said, "Anything else on the menu." I was shocked. I pressed her to give me a couple of things that she likes and she gave me some suggestions. I took one of her suggestions and it was mediocre, unpleasant, and displeasing. We paid a lot of money for very mediocre food and I was very disappointed. My husband is a vegetarian and there were literally no vegetarian dishes on the menu. This is not a menu from this century. Jake's might want to get with modern times.

Met with friends over Spring Break here for dinner, it was our first time. WOW! Amazing selection, great service, upper end pricing, but well worth it. The only downside, is parking, make sure you allow plenty of time to find a place, we parked in a nearby garage, but still had to walk on the street to get to the lobby of the restaurant and it was POURING, we were drenched!

Stopped in for a quick cocktail and decided to try their French onion soup! Outdoor seating available in a newly created eating plaza that is on SW Harvey! It's super cute. I ordered a triple berry martini, which was made to perfection with a bowl of French onion soup! Endless ooey gooey cheese with the perfect crust around the stoneware. So good! The soup wasn't too salty which is sometimes a hit or miss with this soup. My waiter was approachable, tentative and super sweet with a warm smile. He told me great combo when I paid my bill!

Crab Louie (4) Pasta (3.5) Service (4) Atmosphere (4) So my wife picked here because it is on my bucket list to eat great crawfish. Jake's was near our hotel, so it was a win-win (well, sort of). Why I say, this is there isn't a lot of crawfish on their menu. We were there for dinner and on their dinner menu was One crawfish item on their App menu. Three items on their main menu. So we were disappointed, but they do have their menu online, so we should have looked before. We had an early dinner and a Sunday, and our experience was very good. Service I would give a 4. Our server was nice. The atmosphere is cool in an older building. My wife has the Crab Louie and gave it a 4 out of 5. I had the Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Fettuccini and gave it a 3.5 because it was way too cheesy for me. We each had two cocktails, and with a nice tip, our total was $125.00. I feel we got a great deal for our experience and would come again. Overall I would give them a strong 4 stars!

Stayed in Portland overnight and chose Jake’s because of location and reviews on Open Table. Wine selection for local wines was great. Jason was attentive and personable. He offered great recommendations. We decided to share a Caesar salad and the chef’s special of stuffed halibut. Both were amazing. There wasn’t an up charge for shared plates. Sourdough bread and whipped butter were a great starter. Loved the big band era decor and music. Would go back in a nanosecond.

This is a great place to get whatever you are craving. I had a stuff salmon that was to die for, others in our party had steak and pork. The service was great and the atmosphere was delightful.

A weeknight dinner with friends was out goal in this most famous Portland restaurant, to which we have been several times before. Of course, that was all before the current pandemic, and it is under new ownership too. We ordered drinks and the calamari appetizer. Our main course was the stuffed salmon dish offered as the Chef's special. The calamari was very salty. I love salty food but this was way too much. The stuffed salmon was accompanied by green beans and mashed potatoes. It was a generous portion too, but the crab was watery. This meal just did not stand up to the Jake's standard that I was expecting. Too bad.

We had a business meeting here with about eight people, and they accommodated us very nicely. The service was amazing, very attentive, which was very nice. A great menu. Selection of seafood oysters were very good. Fish sandwiches salads as well as the fried fish was very tasty. A nice place to have a business meeting as it’s not a noisy in there at all. Parking can be a little tricky. Of course it is downtown Portland, but there are parking garage is close by.

We love Jake’s. We come here every time we are in Portland. However, tonight we were sad to see that neither our green beans or our potatoes were cooked. We didn’t want to send things back because it seemed hectic for the staff, but was sad that this was the case, especially since we had just finished driving from Washington to come here. The seafood we ordered was quite delicious though, as was our appetizer (Brie, highly recommend) and our drinks (triple berry martini, mojito). The only advice I have is maybe not come on such a busy night.

Jakes is a must do for out-of-town guests. My nephew was visiting from the east coast, so we had to show him Jake's. We were NOT disappointed. He had the Horseradish Encrusted Steel Head, my wife the Pacific Salmon stuffed with Dungeness Grab and Bay Shrimp, and I had the Dungeness Crab Tortellini. All the dishes were prepared perfectly. Our server Mariko was terrific, attentive but not hovering.

Another wonderful evening at Jake's. Service was superb, as always. Love the gin martinis and my cousin had a vesper martini. My cod with shrimp/crab topping was excellent. We always stay in this area of downtown Portland so we can go back to our favorite spots.

The drinks were great and the seafood tower and clam chowder were amazing. I had the Jambalaya which was fantastic. DO NOT skip dessert. The Banana Pie was awesome. Crème brulee was perfectly done as well!

Jakes is one of those "olde worlde" places... in a delightful time warp it offers up a fine selection of food and beverages with considerable grace and charm. And if you do have room you must try the chocolate truffle cake... OK even if you don't have room maybe share like we did. High recommendation.

We stayed downtown for seven nights. Couldn't keep away from Jake's. Ate there four times. Wish I could go back again! Raw and pan fried oysters don't get much better.

We made reservations for a table in the dining room at Jake’s Famous Crawfish restaurant for our last night (Friday) in Portland. We wanted some fresh seafood/fish and Jake’s delivered. Upon our arrival (by Uber), we were immediately taken to our table for two. Our server was Steven and he was fabulous…friendly, funny, had great stories to tell us, and really loved his job. After drinking pinot noirs the last several days in the wine country, we decided to order a bottle of Francis Coppola Diamond Collection ‘Claret’ (2016 Napa Valley, $49.00). Steven suggested we split a House Salad (with glazed walnuts and bleu cheese crumbles, $8.90). For our dinner entrée, we both ordered the Chef’s Recommendation of Dungeness Crab and Bay Shrimp Stuffed Salmon (stuffed with Dungeness crab, Oregon bay shrimp, brie and cream cheese, $41.00 each). The price was more than we usually pay, but the food, the service, and the atmosphere were all superb!!! We highly recommend this place and suggest we you make a reservation either online or by calling the restaurant (ask for Steven).

We went on the recommendation from a friend who highly recommended the salmon. The seafood was very fresh and nicely presented. Classic and comfortable old school ambiance. Do not hesitate to take your out of town guests to this fabulous restaurant that has been around a long time for a reason!

Food was top notch, we love the stuffed halibut, crab and shrimp in brie, and the parmesan crusted steelhead was awesome, literally melts in your mouth. We have had it many times. However the downer was the horrible service. Jakes is known for great food and top of the line service. We started with a quick drink in the bar where we were passed by several times until we asked to give our order, but the-real issue was in the dining room. Our waiter didn't bother to introduce himself, rarely saw him, he asked if we wanted more bread, never saw it, we asked for dessert, he didn't offer coffee, didn't see him again until he dropped check on table...his thank you for coming didn't increase his tip. We are very good tippers, but Troy (his name was on the check) didnt get a good tip last night. We will go back but not right away.

We made reservations for an early dinner at Jake's, but when we arrived, there was an empty table outside in the street, so we grabbed that instead. So glad we did as the happy hour specials were also available outside! We ordered a local cider, glass of wine, and four selections from the happy hour menu, and still everything was less than $50. The étouffée was very good, and the calamari was crispy and not greasy. We really loved the crab dip with pita triangles....that was absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed the fish tacos (although I would have personally preferred them to be on flour tortillas instead of corn...but they were flavorful and hit the spot!). Our waitress was friendly and accommodating, and she constantly made sure our water glasses were refilled. We will definitely return on our next visit to Portland!

Great food and service! We stopped in for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised with selection of happy hour specials. The hot crab dip and the Shrimp Louis were fabulous and our server was attentive and helpful.

Just finished driving route 66 in 10 mustangs & stayed on to do the north west coast. Loved seattle but portlands' food is too die for. Bookings r a must & well worth it. Can be a bit pricey but again well worth the experience & loved ever bite. Wild pacific salmon roasted in the oven on a plank + a filet mignon blue+. Both delicious.

We sat at the bar because it was very busy during lunch. Bartender and waiters friendly and knowledgeable. Enjoyed the spicy crawfish pasta and razor clams. Would highly recommend.

Excellent dinner, great atmosphere and service. Quality of the food is excellent and prices are very reasonable. Would highly recommend.

Our family of 3 had a fabulous dinner! Everything was excellent. We didn't have a reservation, so my husband and I waited it the bar. Our son, 19, went to explore a nearby record store, since he couldn't sit with us. Frozen berry drinks on the bar specialty menu were great. Once we were seated, my scampi style prawns was one of the best dinners I have ever had! so delicious! my son's seafood fettucine was very good too. We also enjoyed popcorn shrimp and crab and artichoke dip appetizers.

Salmon was great. Old style feel restaurant. Had reservations but came early and didn’t have to wait. My server was excellent. Kids menu was the best I’ve seen for a great price. Hot chocolate was watery. But overall a great experience in fabulous Portland.

We love a good crawfish boil and this restaurant serves huge crawfish from a lake in central Oregon and wonderful cocktails. If you love shellfish and beautiful ambiance, definitely visit Jake’s...the experience speaks for itself!

Walking by on Christmas Eve Day, we stopped in because the place looked fun from the outside. It was busy inside, but we found two seats at the bar. The bar staff are great. We ordered Irish Coffee's. So smooth we ordered a second round. We also ordered the Hot Seafood Sampler appetizer. All of the items were delicious: bacon wrapped shrimp, calamari, crab dip. Turned out to be a great afternoon get away after shopping downtown. Highly recommend Jake's!

Classic! Place has been around for 108 years and the decor hasn’t changed much! Great atmosphere, super service and delicious food. I felt prices were ok - not a cheap meal but not outrageously expensive. Can get busy so suggest to call ahead.

We had a Valentine's day lunch here and it was fabulous. Tr the gumbo, Jake's chowder, and crab cocktail.

Nice hospitality. Excellent fish. Was one of the highlights of our visit. A step back into time, a step ahead in Service and quality.

We've eaten here often when in Portland. This time we had a table of 9 and they accommodated us with ease. Always delicious seafood and good wine selection. But the highlight of the day was the service. Keeping up with a large table on a busy night is tough, but they were up to it. We have such a good time we bumped up the gratuity beyond the customary 20%.

I have been going to Jake's for many years and always had a great experience. I recommend you try it . Happy hour is awesome. One restaurant I can say is definitely not racist.

Great food, that lived up to our expectations after reading other reviews. Very classic and good service. If you have a bad back, choose a table over a booth

I went to Jakes solo on a work trip and sat at the bar. I was taken care of by Joe the bartender and started with the oysters. The food was delicious and came out fast. I had the Parmesan crusted sole and was very happy. Enjoy!

Jake’s is just what I’d expect from a legacy restaurant; a firmly middle of the road good place, consistent in its mediocrity, a mediocrity burnished away for locals by their often generational memories of the place. Here, the cocktails stand out, so did my dessert. It’s especially convenient to the McMenamins Hotel Crystal. They have local gin (Aria) which is more often not the case back home in SF. I was there in January so I’m not sure what fish were in season, the salmon was not. The calamari starts frozen, not fresh. I was advised the Sturgeon and Steelhead were the freshest so ordered the grilled Steelhead. It came not as a chunk but as a flank, a flap, like Sole Meunière, and for a grilled order, came flooded in sauce, itself studded with bay shrimp. Almost every listed seafood order seems infested with bay shrimp. So do several items down the street at Jake’s Grill). This tells me the quality of the fish is not the best. I finished with the candied walnut upside down apple cake (no bay shrimp here!) and a 30 year port. Both were to die for. I avoid legacy restaurants at home, or go in with low expectations. Same here. I’d go to Jake’s for cocktails and pub grub (and to avoid the suffocating Everything McMenamins At McMenamins). But I’ll likely not go back for dinner. And, let’s be clear: The staff were excellent ! No complaints or qualifications there.

The bland, dry sourdough bread set the tone for the meal. The calamari were over breaded and over crisped. The wedge salad was OK, dressing was a bit watery. The pan fried oysters were the best dish, plump and sweet. The shrimp scampi were white wine forward ind not garlicky enough. Everything was edible but expected more based on the reviews. Service was very good.

Jake's Famous Crawfish is a Portland institution. I'm told that McCormick & Schmicks acquired the business a while back, but on our recent trip, nothing had lost a step. Seemingly always crazy busy, there's a reason - great fresh seafood, served in the old-style manner. Great wait staff, solid drinks and amazing choices for fresh fish, shellfish and more. Save room for dessert!

Wonderful delicious fresh food, great service in an "old-time" elegant atmosphere. Go for lunch which they serve everyday and you'll get a great bargain as well. Fish is simply prepared, delvered to the reataurant dailyuand hard to beat. Sourdough bread is excellent and are their salads and dessert - also one of s very few restaurants with many non-alcoholic beverage choices as well as an extensive wine menu. Take a trip back in time and enjoy this Portland instituition.

Make sure you save room for dessert! The key lime pie was amazing. The sampler platter was outstanding..some of the best smoked salmon I’ve ever had. Great variety of seafood and very filling. I had the bacon wrapped crab stuffed prawns which melted in my mouth along with a delicious specialty martini. Great flavor. Portion sizes are very generous, even the appetizers so chose wisely so you have enough room for dessert!

If you like fish this is the place to try. Everything was fresh. The clams were just okay. But the other fish entrees were great.

I ordered old fashion. They put bunch of other crap in it! Didn't taste like old fashion at all! cute area though.

I was so excited to try what has been an established PDX spot with southern food coming home to Oregon after years in the south. This place is awful. The etoufee was technically a roux but it was a roux with zero seasoning. Even dousing with salt left it entirely flavorless and on closer inspection, the crawfish that topped it was boiled literally in plain water. There was no flavor and mushy rice with unseasoned totally plain crawfish. The waitress, to her credit, comped that entree. But overall service was extremely slow. We were generously afforded 4 tiny slices of sourdoughs for 3 of us. And it just was really a disappointment overall. Time for a change and deciding if this is actually a southern establishment or a general bland seafood joint riding a name long forgotten.

We went for happy hour excited to try Jake’s, and we very disappointed. Calamari was barely warm. Caesar salad was mediocre. And our waitress was grumpy. Overall not a good experience.

For any visitor or local, this is a Portland must! I had the steelhead and it was the best I’ve ever eaten! If you’re with a party of 4 - order the chocolate bag for desert. It’s so unique and delicious. You will not be disappointed! Parking near Jakes is at a premium with mostly 2 hour meters. There is plenty of parking underground around the block with an entrance on SW 12th across from Ruby Jewel.

Sat at the bar and ordered everything on the happy hour menu ! Was fantastic and staff were very friendly and even gave us the background on the restaurant. Including the reason why there is a painting of Jake’s mistress hanging on the bar ( with a bullet hole thru it!!)

The food was delicious! The service was excellent! They followed all the COVID-19 rules. We felt very safe.

I have eaten here a few times over the last decades when visiting family and it never disappoints. The food is excellent! I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the mixed berry cobbler but the creme brulee made up for my disappointment.

This is a classic style restaurant. White apron and unpretentious. If that’s what you like, then it’s THE SPOT in Portland. Steaks, seafood, and classic dishes and cocktails.

Classic historical seafood restaurant with exceptional local ambiance. My wife & I celebrated a wonderful wedding anniversary dinner. Julie, our wait server, was friendly, attentive and professional. We both ordered the Dungeness Crab & Bay Shrimp Stuffed Halibut; it was superb. Highly recommend for any special occasion or just anytime. Thank you.

Jake's is a grand old institution. The food is fantastic. If you're looking for the high tech trendy nouvelle cuisine experience, you won't find it here.

This restaurant had poor service and the food was average (to be kind). The server tended to us twice and no other wait staff helped out. They gave us water as we were seated and after 15 minutes came back for our order but didn’t take a drink order. The food came and then our bill. Wouldn’t recommend this place they are living on their history not quality of food and drink.

First of all, One of our family members ordered the famous crab and bay shrimp crab cakes, and you could defintely tell that they were mass-produced out of a freezer and popped in the oven. Then we ordered the clam chowder which was supposed to be really good! But it just tasted like your standard clam chowder. Overall a horrible experience.

We were in town for just one day and night, and we looking for a unique dining experience. Jake's was highly recommended by everyone we asked, and we were not disappointed. The ambience was perfect, the staff was exceptional and the food was phenomenal!

Excellent as always. Their outside seating is awesome since they closed down the street on the north side of the building. I always get the sautéd crab legs with artichokes and mushrooms and it is to die for. It is chock full of big pieces of crab meat, and it is worth every penny. Drinks are great, appetizers are too. Great to go for happy hour as well. Every meal I have had here is excellent. Will be glad to see them go back to an expanded menu, love this place!

We accidentally ended up here on Thanksgiving evening because they were open and I'm glad we did. The fish dishes were delicious. Service was top notch.

You'll have to open your wallet wide here. We came in late July, the restaurant had just updated there menu along with the prices. Food was good but not great. We had huge oysters first, delicious, I also had the oyster stew, which really tasted like warm milk. Also had fried calamari, excellent. My main dish was crawfish etouffee, good, with spiciness that crept up on you. My husband had the seafood pasta, big portion, also good. We didn't drink, and the bill came to $160 with tip.

Had Christmas dinner here. Our server, Brett, was a blast. Took a few minutes to warm up to us but made our visit that much more fun. Good food, great beer selection and dessert was yummy! Place was packed. Casual dining with great atmosphere though it is noisy, of course.

This is a classic full service restaurant. Menu is printed daily with fresh items featured. The wine list is extensive. Appetizers, dinner and dessert were all top shelf. Service excellent.

Jake's has been in Portland for 127 years and is the only place to go for seafood. This was only the second time in 15 years that my wife and I have eaten at Jake's when we have visited Portland. Our menu consisted of smoked rainbow trout in a Remoulade sauce, perfect steamed mussels in white wine and garlic, as was the baked escargot in garlic butter. Lastly pan fried oysters. Everything was spot on. The extensive menu is printed daily due to what is caught in local waters and imported.

Busy restaurant with OK service. Bar staff just doing their job. Size of meals are huge so you won’t go hungry and the crab cakes are delicious. The place smells like a seafood restaurant so if any members of your party are not seafood fans, probably best to look for another venue.

Jake’s was the highlight of my Portland trip. By far the had the best food and service. The dishes were all delicious and their crab cakes were the best I’ve ever had. Hands down this is the place to eat!!!

We were a group of 11 people and were given an iconic private room. We ordered everything from steelhead trout, to sturgeon, to salmon and fish stew. The food was imaginative, well prepared and hot. One area for improvement (this was July 8, 2023, 7:15 pm) is that service was VERY SLOW. The waiter himself was prompt but it took well over an hour for our food to come out. So don't dine here if you're in a hurry. You may not have this experience if you're two to four people.

this is the original seafood restaurant in the McCormick and Schmick chain. founded in 1892 and bought by Bill McCormick and Doug Schmick in 1972. they still serve the same great seafood. we had oysters, mussels, shrimp and crab plus some fresh salads. the drinks, wine and beer lists are quite extensive. and the wait staff is as professional as they have always been. currently they have indoor seating and outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. it was the perfect night to sit under the stars and eat seafood with a little rose.

Had an early reservation after a road trip to the coast. Been a decade since I was last there. Menu has changed a bit. You used to select where your oysters came from which was a good option if you knew the local coastal areas. We opted for an appetizer of steamed muscles. Really good. For dinner my better half had the sole and I had the cedar plank salmon. Both dinners were well presented with home made mashed potatoes and a tasty medley of veggies. Once the front staff recognized we were standing at the front desk, we had a rez, we were seated promptly. We choose a table in the bar to get a view of the local hustle/bustle of the city. For dessert we split a key lime pie which was very good. This restaurant will not disappoint. It can handle large parties or just yourself. Make a rez as it can be busy. Parking, well it can be a challenge. We chose to the parking garage, good luck figuring out the key pad, just northeast of the restaurant. Very short walk to Jakes. But don't leave anything in the car. Just saying. Pay attention when walking.

Jake's is an institution. I had not ben there since the early 1980's, so I took the opportunity to have late lunch el fresco. The street in front of Jake's is blocked to auto traffic, so it made the dining pleasant and peaceful. The menu is vast and incudes many New Orleans seafood favorites. My guest and I started with pan fried oysters, iced Dungeness crab claws and clam chowder. We finished with cedar plank salmon with beurre blanc and crawfish etouffee. Service was prompt and professional. Prices were reasonable. The building is still classic early 1920's. Well worth a visit or two.

Imagine my disappointment to go to what I heard was a 100 year old landmark restaurant in Portland, on Christmas Day, to find out its now part of a large nationwide corporation! We spent over $150 for two people, ordered the "18 ounce" lobster which I do not think was 18 ounces; and the bouillabaisse fish soup which lacked much in the way of seafood content in the soup. With the lobster was 4 tiny skinny way over cooked limp asparagus spears and mooshy potato pieces that looked like large hash brown chunks and were obviously deep fried and then put on a steam table, absolutely gross texture and taste. I wrote a two page letter to complain and asked for a refund just for the two entrees (which we did not finish eating) not for the whole bill. A manager called and apologized. When I asked about a refund he said he would 'see what he could do'. Several weeks later I received a $25 gift card. Nice gesture but I was asking for a refund of $115 JUST for the two entrees that were severely lacking in taste and content, and really ruined what was supposed to be a very special Christmas dinner for my son and myself. I dont plan to return there or use the gift card.

We took a road trip up to Portland just to have razor clams. We’d had them years ago at Jake’s and were hoping for a repeat. We were in luck! We had lightly breaded and fried razor clams along with some green beans and red potatoes. It was delicious. We made a reservation so there was no waiting and the booth we were seated in was cozy. Our serving person was friendly and talked to us about harvesting razor clams herself. All in all this was a wonderful evening.

Ketchup and pink mayo for the calamari, pink lemonade instead of Arnold Palmer, overcooked steelhead , extra dark brown greasy potatoes (they were suppost to be roasted red potatoes), wife fish burnt, harder than a rock mashed potatoes,, server got lost, served food , never to been seen again, at exit, hostess did'nt even looked up,too busy looking at book, all of this for$100.00

Mediocre food. Atmospheric old place but you can do a lot better in terms of food quality. Would go somewhere else for the money.

The ambiance is very nice. Reservations are recommended. I went in for an early dinner, so it wasn't necessary. There is also a bar area where you can order food (same menu) and no reservations are needed. I loved the crab and shrimp crabcakes, not so much the entree I ordered. The waiter recognized I did not particularly care for it and let the manager know at NO urging from me. To ensure my complete dining experience the manager took care of it.

Visited at lunch for the time. I had the prawn cocktail to start with and it was excellent. I then ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Best chowder I have had in a long time. My wife ordered the seafood fettuccine and she loved it. Great food and service.

I usually go to Jake's Grill since it is right off the street car, but its food has been hit or miss lately, and this had many more fish choices. It is a McCormick & Schmidt so I take the hype about its history with a grain of salt. It is also supposed to be a pick up joint, or used to be. The waiter recommend the trout over the Salmon, and it was very good. The potatoes were not worth eating though.

On a three day visit to Portland, we dined out for every meal. Jake's was by far the best meal we enjoyed. The hospitality, service, atmosphere, and food were great. The Brunch menu is amazing and the wine discount was a delightful surprise. I'd strongly recommend adding Jake's to your must visit locations.

I try and stop by and get some seafood anytime im in Portland. not cheap but always good food and service

The oysters were delightful and the stuffed fish with crab was exceptional. Even their French fries are great. All the vegetables were perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were heavenly!

Exceptional Service and Food. A wonderful step back into time. First, the staff and our server Tess were wonderful. So engaging and fun and attentive. Tess loves her time at Jake's and it shows in what she says and does. Her recommendations were spot on based upon our questions. We wanted for nothing. Dungeness crab claws (my first), Shrimp and crab cakes, oyster stew, the grilled salmon, fried oyster lunch with fabulous potatoes and oddly the BEST fresh green beans I've ever had and then walnut apple pie! All were incredibly well-prepared and brought memories of past meals. ALL would rank in the best I've had category.

For me it's still the best place in all of Portland! Ambiance and service, food and drinks, everything is still top. It was just a pleasure to be here again (post COVID).

We've been going to Jakes since 1990. It was always exceptional until the pandemic. The last two times have been mediocre at best. The bread used to be served hot and fresh. Now it's been cold and dry. My wife ordered petrale sole which was over cooked. They gave us a fresh dish and it was the same. We ordered a couple glasses of wine with dinner and by the time it came we were halfway through our dinner. The price of dinner never really bothered me since the food was always very good. I don't think we will be going back for some time unless we hear it has changed. Too bad.

Excellent in every way. Everything was good from drinks to appetizers to service. The restaurant is charming.

Always the old school atmosphere of Jake’s- which means consistent great service, quality food, and comfortable uncrowded cozy dining room. go to when we can’t think of where to go for a special meal that won’t be over-crowded or sold out or over priced. went for Thanksgiving dinner and had a fine turkey dinner without the ridiculously high Thanksgiving prices at other restaurants in town, plus a choice of other entrees and a good kids menu.

Jake's continues to be the lovely restaurant it's been for years. (I remember eating there as a child with my grandparents.) The owners have resisted any urge to "update" it with hard surfaces and metal pipes and blaring music -- thank goodness. I'd describe the atmosphere as northwest elegant. The food was excellent. We had seafood fettucine, pan fried oysters with excellent roast potatoes and vegetables, and a house salad -- all very good. Our server was a real pro and gave impeccable service.

We waited 45 minutes for our waitress to arrive after we were seated. We asked the waitress who kept walking by if she could take our order, but she told us we weren't sitting in her section. Really? The service is awful. I'll never go back.

We chose Jake's for the Portland March Dining specials of $33.00/person, and had our choice of four entrees as well as either the clam chowder or the house salad as a starter along with bread. Dessert was also included and there was a choice between a small piece of truffle cake and creme brulee. We thought everything was quite good! I had the steelhead with a fluffy horseradish topping that was good but a bit too much so I removed just a little in order to enjoy the fish which was delicious! It came with roasted red potatoes (some of the best I've had with any meal!) and haricot green beans. Husband had the crab and shrimp cakes which came with mashed potatoes and the same green beans. Our server, Mariko, was quite efficient and friendly, and we enjoyed our evening at Jake's!

Had a wonderful late lunch there with my family. We ordered oysters, popcorn crawdads, and a variety of seafood entrees along with a bottle of wine.....excellent.

Not sure how you could go wrong with a visit to Jake's. I typically swing by for their happy hour, as it's hard to beat. Jake's is constant in their service, food quality and value. I've stayed, but always come back to Jake's.

This was a pretty good restaurant for what it was …. tourist restaurant in the Pearl District. Escargot was good… no toast points 😒 both seafood dishes myself and my partner had were decent. Nothing to rave about. Unfortunately, there was a bar down the street that felt it was OK to play their music at a decibel level that was unconscionable. Nothing but bass booming behind the nice dinner music in this restaurant …very distracting.

A go-to favorite since the early 90's. Date night, groups, solo, whatever the occasion. Order a beverage, engage in conversation, and enjoy. Have an appetizer before experiencing deliciously prepared entrees served by attentive but not obnoxious staff. Highly recommend trying something new or unusual here if you're the adventurous type.

Food was delicious and plentiful. We had salmon, fettuccine, and gumbo type soup. Very good and more than we could eat. On the downside the service was negligent. It was a busy time 6:00 so maybe i am too critical but I believe if i am going to pay premium prices than i deserve premium service

Located in Portland's Pearl District, an area full of restaurants and shops. Very large and frequented mainly by American customers. Expertly organized by numerous and quite diligent staff. The rooms are furnished in a classic way, reflecting the history of the place. Very extensive menu but what I ate didn't excite me, a sort of fish soup and sautéed mussels not particularly tasty and with raw materials that didn't respect cooking well. Prices normal for a fish restaurant.

Made reservations the morning of our trip and surprised we got in given the size of the crowd at 6 o’clock. Throwback joint for great seafood in heart of downtown Portland. The whole experience was just fantastic. I had the sea trout and it was prepared perfectly. The lady had the Dungeness crab salad and they do not short you on any of the portions. Outstanding wine list and great vibes all around. Highly recommend this place.

Dinner out. We made a reservation and were able to be seated with no problems. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was good. It’s an older building and has a lot of character. Nice place for a nice dinner.

More for a special occasion type of night out, because of the prices. We celebrated our 10th anniversary; like we had the previous five, it's become a tradition. We had the oysters, crab cakes, and we both had the seafood fettuccini adding lump crab on top. Our server, Cairo was attentive and gave us great service. A wonderful experience, overall. Sad the prices have increased, but not the size of the portions. Still great food, great atmosphere. The temperature of the HOT WATER in the ladies' room; was deeply concerning. Needs to me much warmer for safety when handling food, etc.

We had an Open Table reservation for 5 for 8:00 pm, Saturday Jan 22. We arrived at 7:50 to check in. We were still waiting for two of our party. The hostess said she would seat us immediately in the entryway. This was not a real table, it was two tables shoved up against the bench by the door (where people usually sit and wait for tables). There was also a dessert cart shoved up against it, and people leaning against while talking in their phones. I said that my parents, who are 78, are hard of hearing and that this wouldn’t work. She immediately became defensive and said “well you got here early!” I repeated that we were waiting for the rest of our party, and were more than happy to wait until 8 to be seated. She said we would have to wait until 8:30 if we didn’t want the entryway table. My mom and I saw booths open and asked if we could sit there instead. She proceeded to tell us that “other people have been waiting longer!” Then she seated a part of three, who walked in at the same time as us, at the booth table. We ended up leaving and eating down the street. This woman was completely incompetent and had no interest whatsoever is customer service. I work all week, I don’t need to pay 75$ per person to deal with a power tripping 20 something.

We came here for happy hour downtown recently, something we haven't done often anymore since Covid. We had a very good experience and enjoyed the food and had great service while here. The only drawback was sitting outside when the wind kicked up and it just got plain COLD!! Should have sat INSIDE for sure!! We had the fish tacos, calamari, the Cajun chicken sandwich, and the Shrimp Louie. All of the food was VERY good and we enjoyed our time there quite a lot. The servers were very good, and we had a gentleman named Morgan who was our main server and who did a great job while we were there.

Jake’s lived up to the hype! Went there with friends and the food and drinks were wonderful. Had the crawfish appetizer and French onion soup to start then the cod with crab and shrimp on top with a great sauce. Wonder chocolate mousse for dessert

Fantastic diner experience. Started with raw oysters and clam chowder. Great Caesar salad. Seafood Fetuccini and Pacific Salmon both excellent. Wonderful wine selection as well. Great fine dining experience.

The food was SO good. Ordered the Wild Columbia River King Salmon (roasted on a cedar plank). Unreal. Good draught selection as well. 4/5 stars because the waitress brought the wrong check out TWICE!

Great dinner spot and everything we had was good! The oysters and clam chowder were the best of the meals we got. We also got lucky and Nicholas Cage was in town and sat down a couple booths from us! Service was great!

One of the best meals ever! I ordered wild harvested Alaskan halibut stuffed with crab and shrimp, calamari, appetizer, wine from Oregon, and ended by sharing a walnut and caramel upside down apple pie. On a scale of 1-10, all 4 of us would rate Jake’s 10+. Though pricey, we felt the entire experience was worth it. Ask for Andrea to be your server. It’s obvious she loves her job and added even more joy to our meal.

Came here for dinner with family on a Monday. First time eating in downtown Portland. Great busy atmosphere for a Monday which speaks for itself. Service was on point, great recommendations from the waiter, good drinks. My favorite part besides great service and atmosphere which every restaurant should have is the interior design and architecture. Really old, yet comfortable, and clean feeling. My most disliked part and this is only tiny and personal preference was my dinner. I ordered the Halibut cheeks which were excellent but were on the small side for a large price. I never had this before but wanted to try it. It did not take away from the overall experience as everyone's meals were well received. Will be back again someday.

Worst service and food we've ever had at an upscale restaurant. We brought a party of 11 to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The soups were starchy and bland, the pasta bitter, and shellfish in the boulibase was tough and rubbery. $400 tab and our waiter was terribly rude, smelled like cigarette smoke as he shoved his arms into our faces while refilling beverages. During gifts, without any warning, he interrupted us, shoving a tray of dessert on our table. He never even thanked us for coming in. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the fried calamari, fried oysters, and fried fish was good. If we wanted just that we would have gone to McGraths. We will NEVER come back

My sister raved about the French Onion Soup and her Halibut Fish and Chips. My Stuffed Halibut with Dill Beurre Blanc was delicious. The best meal we had in Portland. I also liked that you can sit at one of the tables in the bar area and look out at the passersby, while the restaurant itself is somewhat more formal. Check out the decor; it showcases the second oldest restaurant in Portland so well.

My husband and I have been here numerous times in the last 20 years. It's been our "go-to" spot for a fantastic seafood dinner when we visit Portland. We've always had exceptional food and service, but this time was a major disappointment, and it felt like Jake's is going downhill. We both ordered Clam Chowder as a starter and had the Alaskan Halibut simply grilled with a Dill Beurre Blanc as pur entrees. The Halibut came with mashed potatoes and green beans with a red pepper garnish. It was my husband's birthday, and he received a slice of their famous Truffle Cake with a Raspberry sauce. The best things about the entire meal were the complimentary Sourdough Bread, the Dill Beurre Blanc, the bottle of wine we ordered, and the Truffle Cake. The Chowder tasted fishy, the Halibut was dry, the green beans were permeated by the red pepper garnish on top, and the mashed potatoes had the texture and flavor of instant mashed potatoes. Our server wasn't really spectacular either, and he kind of came across as a phony baloney. The meal and experience were so disappointing that we will be looking for a new restaurant the next time we come to Portland. It was my husband's 50th birthday, so thank you for being a real letdown.

We were inPortland recently during the COVID shutdown and so we ordered out from everywhere. Jake's was AMAZING! The staff was friendly and prompt. I ordered the horseradish crusted salmon and it was absolutely amazing! The mixed vegetables of green beans and carrots were superb and the roasted potatoes were beyond delicious! I aspire to make some as wonderful as those were. Highly recommend making this a stopping point on your trip to PDX!

It has been a number of years since I dined at Jake's. I decided to bring my new wife and mother in law here for dinner after attending a concert. We were not disappointed. Everything was perfect. Great table, great waiter, great service, great food for sure. The menu had so many yummy choices, it was hard to choose. Whenever I go to a restaurant like Jake's, I like to order something I don't usually find elsewhere. I ordered the sturgeon and my wife ordered the swordfish. Both were to die for. The desserts were fabulous. The prices aren't for the faint of heart. But, you only live once, so go for it.

While the service was outstanding, the food was a disappointment. We hadn’t been to Jake’s in about 5 years and we ordered our favorite meals: Bouillabase and the Dungeness sauté. Both were lacking in flavor and felt like the ingredients were cut back to save costs. I’ll think long and hard before going back. Better off making these dishes in my kitchen.

We were planning to have a regular dinner items from the menu when we realized that it was still happy hour and we thought let’s give it a try. Wine was good and good portions too and they had a great selection of items that were offered during the happy hour and good portions too. We were very pleased. We ordered the shrimp salad, the étouffe, the mussels and the fish tacos and everything was good.

An Aussie in Portland. Every visit to Portland we eat at Jakes as many times as we can! This time we were a group of nine! The service we had from Rob was exceptional! Great to see JAKES is again PERFECT!!

Great food and service. COVID-19 stinks ... but this was a great dinner. Outside seating and perfect social distancing.

Jake’s has a lively happy hour daily with discounted appetizers and wines. The calamari was superbly and lightly fried. The crab dip was also excellent. Unfortunately none of the beers are discounted, which is a bit unusual for a happy hour. We had to cancel our dinner reservation in the next room since we were full from happy hour. Our waitress was running hard and was outstanding but was outnumbered by the crowd and probably could have used some reinforcements. Being from south Louisiana, we were a bit skeptical of their crawfish and left those alone.

This was my first night in Portland and my friends and I ate here. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. I had the Halibut special—stuffed with crab and shrimp. It was delicious. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a vintage vibe—takes you back in the day.

I was in town for a work conference and we had a large group go out for dinner. Everyone wanted to eat at the same place so we took over Jake’s host stand. They were a bit surprised at the size of the group but they were SO nice about it and set up a room that for our entire party, in less than 10 minutes. I expected to be turned away with the amount of people and no reservation. Our servers were welcoming, helpful with the menu, and overall fantastic. The food was very good- I ordered raw oysters, escargot, and crab claws, all so fresh! 10/10 recommend!

Great atmosphere that offers much comfort. The Bar keep was a gentleman and the was crawfish étouffée was really good! If i was a local, then i would visit often!

We celebrated our 30th anniversary here on our first night in Portland. It was within walking distance of our hotel, so it was a convenient choice. I was pleased with the number of seafood options, although there was nothing very unique or exotic on the menu. It is straight-up vanilla American seafood. I ended up getting the stuffed salmon, which is one of their specialties. It was tasty, although the presentation was a little sloppy and the value wasn't great. For dessert, we split the upside down walnut apple pie. It was good, but not great. Given the recommendation we received, I was expecting a little more, but it was a solid choice and I was not disappointed.

We loved this restaurant. Old school in the best ways: considerate staff, generous portions, mellow ambience. Loved everything we had from salad to main course to cocktails and wine.

After a 10 year hiatus, because I do not live in Portland, I took my wife, sister and nephew to enjoy dinner at Jake's. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time. The young hostess, in an almost surly manner, said, "You'll have to wait. We don't have any servers." Then she ignored us and shifted her glance to her reception area computer screen. STRIKE 1. I asked, "Where should we wait?" She did not look up from her screen (STRIKE 2), but a wonderful floor manager seemed to have overheard the exchange and, with good aplomb, brought us to a seat, misdirecting the hostess' rude behavior while stating that, of course, we could be seated while Jake's waited for their servers to arrive. (I noticed that all of the waiters were much younger than the waitstaff at the time of my previous visits.) Our waitress was responsive and had a wonderful personality. Nonetheless, after ordering a bourbon sour, it never arrived. When I reminded our waitress, she quickly returned with an iced drink that looked ominously yellow. It was ALL lemon! I kid you not. STRIKE 3. No bourbon and no syrup sweetener. Wow! I mixed and tasted again it to be sure. Wow! ALL sour lemon! I explained what was wrong to our waitress, but she did not seem familiar with the ingredients of a bourbon sour. After some time, however, the wonderful floor manager appeared, explaining that he and others had actually tasted my returned drink and found that it was made entirely wrong. I was then served a bona fide bourbon sour. But none of the staff explained what had gone wrong. STRIKE 4. Our waitress brought us bread that was dry. (How can you get bread wrong? Jake's could have picked up fresh bread at Safeway!) STRIKE 5. My sister ordered some fried artichokes. I tasted them. Not good. I ordered the halibut to share with my wife. The fish was bland, but, at the same time, salty (how can that be, I thought?) and the vegetables and potatoes were salty. STRIKE 6. My nephew said that his steel head salmon was good, but for the rest of us, our experience was BAD. My family will never return.

We had a glorious meal in this old Portland establishment. I enjoyed sturgeon cheeks--who knew you could eat sturgeon? So glad we decided to have dinner here!
Pretty Good!
I used to absolutely LOVE McCormick & Schmick’s restaurants and went to many of them… that was years ago, before they were bought by Landry’s and went downhill, thus two of my favorite locations went out of business… I hadn’t been back since. So, when in Portland and given the opportunity to come to Jake’s, the original of this chain, I was excited to see what it was like, even though this location is also owned by Landry’s. The inside is historically original. Service was excellent, I later learned that we were served by a lady who’s been there over 35 years – She was really good at handling our large party. The food was really good! Not the absolute best seafood I’ve had, but it was better than I remember the M&S’s being after they changed hands. It's definitely worth stopping in to see for yourself!
