Love the historical setting, very nice building. We ate in the bar, which was active and fun on Sunday night. Waitress was a bit overstretched but provided reasonably good service. Food was great. I especially recommend blackened rockfish. If you like firmer fleshed fish like Atlantic Cod, you will love it. I did. We were looking for seafood and they did not have as many selections as many seafood places, but all ours were good. Would return.

I enjoyed the decor and the vibe of this place. It's fun that it's in an historic building and the inside feels very club atmosphere like. Lots of wood and polished brass. Food was good too as were the drinks. My only complaint is the waiter was very pushy about getting us to order quickly. I like to relax and take my time.

Got in late & ate because it was close. Was so good went back the next night. Wife raved over the Fish & Chips. I had the sole which was delicious. Waiter & overall service was great. Will return again.

I recently took my lady friend here for her Birthday dinner. All I can say is WOW. I made the reservations with a note stating it was her birthday. The staff made special menus for her and went over and above my expectations! The food was beautiful and delicious. Our server Robert was AMAZING. He was very attentive and even sang happy birthday to her. GOLD STAR ROBERT and to the rest of the staff.

Asked our Hotel staff where they recommended a good steak near the hotel. They recommended Jake's Grill. Walking distance from the hotel. Filet Mignon was wonderfully done to my liking. I like medium rare, and it fit the bill. Husband had salmon which he really enjoyed as well. Staff was very attentive. Would recommend if you are in the area of the Pearl District!

Family of 9 was crowded into a setting for 6. The air conditioner must have been broken as it was so hot our grandson and some adults could not eat. Won't be going back for a very long time if ever.

Fantastically delicious food with great service. Nice selection of non-alcoholic drinks as well as a full bar selection. I had a roasted turkey sandwich that came with cucumber, tomato, pistachio pesto and a side salad. My non-alcoholic drink was a Spiced Raspberry cooler made with raspberry puree, lemon juice, honey, ginger beer & club soda. Dessert was Creme Brulee. All of it was spectacular. If you're in Portland, definitely stop at Jake's Grill. Food is delicious.

We had breakfast at Jake's Grill and it was excellent. We had a window table and were able to relax and take in the busy city.

We gave the three stars to the wonderful staff, great , friendly service. The food was a horrible disappointment. We had the halibut, vegetables were wonderful, the fish so dry had to cut with a knife. It was a lot of money for dry fish. The salads and desserts were good. We won’t be back. There are many great seafood restaurants in Portland, this isnt one of them. Possibly they should stick to cooking steak. Leave the seafood to Jakes Seafood restaurant.

Food was top notch. Had the crab eggs Benedict and could have licked the plate. Went for lunch so there was no wait or reservation required. Would love to go back!

Everything was perfect! Amber was an incredible server who took care of us and made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was outstanding. We will be back -

I have some unique dietary needs and I was accommodated perfectly. Merete and Manny were super helpful.

Had a great time and a great dinner at Jake’s Grill. Loved the harvest greens salad and the fantastic pork short ribs. Daisha provided excellent service and we will definitely be back!

I’ve been going to Jakes for the past 3 years and I consider it my home bar when I’m visiting Portland. The physical plant is my dream bar come true. Turn of the century dark wood, brass and marble. High ceilings and tiled floors give the place an old club feel. The bar tenders, Chad and Annie, pour a stiff drink. The happy hour repast is tasty and a great value. If you can get there on Wednesday nights, the have &1.00 shrimp and oysters. An incredible value. If you find yourself looking for a good drink in Portland be sure to cruse by Jakes Grill

On a recent visit to Portland my wife and I decided to go out for a nice dinner (since we didn't bring the kids it made any meal out basically half price) and as I had always wanted to try the iconic Jake's Grill we chose this Portland landmark. We had cocktails and shared their famous crab cakes, which were delicious, and then for dinner my wife had the steelhead and I had the étouffée (again, both delicious). Our server was charming, non-intrusive, and highly knowledgable (he paired my étouffée with a terrific IPA) and our overall experience was memorable. However, I absent-mindedly left my credit card behind after leaving, and didn't realize it until the next morning. We went to the restaurant, which didn't open for another two hours, and found some sous-chefs prepping for the day. They kindly let us in and called a manager, who showed up minutes later to find my credit card safely tucked away in the upstairs office. In spite of interrupting their day, the staff were light-hearted and wonderfully considerate about something that was entirely my mistake. I honestly can't recommend this place enough, and will most certainly return to Jake's Grill the next time I'm in Portland. I might even take my kids.

Excellent service! The chunk meat steaks were AMAZING!! Service was top notch and the vibe was awesome! James and Manny were incredible, and the GM even popped out to see how we were doing. Five star service!

My son has been telling us about this place for months, and the hype was warranted! Awesome meal in a great atmosphere. Waitress had no sense of humor, but was efficient and prompt.

I stopped by with my wife and a friend for a quick dinner before a concert. We were kind of in a hurry, and did not have time to check too many places. Jake's looked good, with white table cloth and stylish interior. The waiter was friendly and informative. After seeing steaks and other dishes well above $50 on the menu, I decided on simple fish and chips (still expensive but not as outrageously expensive), the others had seared ahi. I have no issue spending money on a nice dinner, but if it comes with the noise level of a sports bar, it's not worth it to me. Two tables over, people were having fun, and had to let people know about it which meant screaming and laughing every 30 seconds, as if they were at a sports arena. My fish was decent, but not something to write home about. The ahi portions looked smallish, so small I felt sorry for my tablemates. The wine list (bottles) looked impressive. I think I counted 50 or more pinot noirs alone. So there is probably something for a guest who knows exactly what bottle to get.

Great food and service. We particularly loved the care given to our friend in a wheel chair. 6 of us shared apps and of course tasted each other’s entrees . Delicious steaks and sautéed Dungeness crab legs were the big hit. Dress for us was casual as we were traveling through Portland. Very nice atmosphere! Will go back next time we’re in Portland…

The food and service at Jake’s Grill was awesome. Angela went above and beyond to make our dining experience a great one.

We have been to both of the Jake's in Portland but prefer the Grill for it's menu and ambiance. The BAr is large enough to usually find a seat and the Wait Staff is spot on.

We went out to dinner on Saturday night, group of 10. Service was terrible, had to ask for complimentary bread and multiple times to have our waters refilled. Drink service was super slow as well. I ordered the filet and it was at best room temperature, green berms very undercooked. I will say the burrata salad was amazing and that was the only highlight . For the price paid I was disappointed to say the least. I understand we had a large group but we made reservations weeks in advanced so that should have been taken into consideration.

Great food and drinks! Happy hour menu is really good, great options! We sat at the bar and it was fun! Loved the chicken tacos, spicy!

We had two different salmons, smoked and stuffed. Both were very tastefull. Crème brulée was excellent. Friendly service. Old fashioned stylish restaurant. It looks a bit French.

I had a business meeting and we met at the bar of Jake's Grill. The service and selection was amazing. And the atmosphere, top notch!

We had a wonderful lunch yesterday at Jake’s Grill. The food was great and our service was fantastic. Our server Kaesley made our experience so special. Thank you so much Kelsey your the best and we will be back!!

Friendly and very popular ( judging on how busy it was ) when we visited on a weekday just after the lunch hour ) My advise is to book a table in advance, or have a drink in the bar, while waiting for a table...... The food was fabulous, we ordered different dishes and shared back and forth, which was a brilliant choice, since it was difficult to make up your mind when you read through the menu. Service was excellent, an altogether great visit !

Recent visit to an old favorite when I was in town with family turned out to be a disappointment. The good: the dining room, bar, and building are still historically beautiful; the staff was pleasant and efficient; the oysters were good and seemed fresh. The bad: the rest of the food was very sub par; crab Benedict had old crab, cold un-toasted muffin with wilted raw spinach, ugly poached egg, runny icky sauce and no spices at all; and there were nearly no local wines (very bad given this is supposed to be a northwest menu). The very bad: the waiter stacked our plates on the table, left them there, then pressured us to join the loyalty club - what??? It was a very bad ending to the visit. Please get better Jake’s!

My spouse and I went here based on seeing so many positive reviews. My spouse ordered the blackened rock fish and I ordered the mahi mahi. The rock fish had a strange metalic/sour flavor. After a few bites it just wasnt edible. The fish was on lobster risoto, this was just a flavorless ball of mush. The mahi was overcooked and had no seasoning, the only redeeming item on this plate was pineapple salsa like concoction, it provided a little moisture and flavor.

Old school restaurant with extraordinary service. We had delicious succulent oysters, a beautiful horseradish crusted redfish and wonderful clam chowder. After dinner coffee drinks were lovely too.

We had out of town guests visiting us so we thought we would take them to something special. We picked Jake's Grill which is located in the Sentinel Hotel. Three of us started the meal with a cup of Gazpacho, the soup of the day, while one went without a starter. For the main course, one chose the grilled Rockfish while the other 3 went for different versions of Salmon - Steelhead, Stuffed Salmon and Sockeye Salmon. We enjoyed our meal while sharing a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. The food, as always, was excellent. The service was terrible. A meal that should have taken 90 minutes ended up taking 150 minutes. Yes, the restaurant was full but the wait for the food was far below the standard that we have learned to expect at Jake's Grill.

We hadn't been to Jakes in a while for dinner, their happy hour is always good and we saw they were participating in Dining Month, so we made Saturday evening reservations. the place was pretty busy-it seems to get a lot of visitor to town business. We were seated pretty much right away. Our server took a bit to get to us, so eventually got our water and ordered drinks. There was no sign of the PDX dining month menu and after we finally got our drinks, we finally had to ask our mostly disinterested server for the dining month menu. It was brought and we placed our order from the dining month menu. The service was slow thorough out. the food..a parmesean sole and a horseradish steelhead were both very good. Nothing against the food at this throwback seafood place, but the lack of good service and having to ask for the dining month menu was annoying. If you are doing dining month, do it..if not, don't...it seemed like an inconvenience to our server and overall the restaurant, so don't see going back to Jake's or recommending it to visitors anytime soon.

We have never gone to Jake's for their Veteran's Day free meal for veterans occasion, and decided to go this year. The menu choices were quite good, and we enjoyed the meals we had. I ordered off the regular menu and got fish and chips, while my husband (the veteran) had the grilled salmon from the vet special honor menu. Our wedge salad and the mixed green bleu cheese salad were both good. It was VERY busy as one might predict, but overall, the service was quite adequate. While my fish and chips were priced within reason ($19.75) for the 5 large pieces of fish with the fries, we both felt that if we had paid the full price for the salmon meal ($30.45) with the minimal amount of food with it, it would have been rather expensive for the amount of salmon received. In fact, my husband was still hungry after his meal and ate almost two pieces of my fish!

Jake's Grill is located directly across the street from where my hotel was located, and I was wanting some beef on this particular night....Jake's did not dissapoint. I sat at the bar and was well taken care of by my server/bartender Manuel. I enjoyed some wine, the wedge salad and ribeye. While Jake's is not a place you're going to be dining when on a strict budget, it was worth every penny. The food was perfectly prepared, the environment was dark, warm and familiar, and the service was stellar. I would absolutely return to Jake's on my next trip to Portland and highlly recommend that you stop in for dinner, appetizers or just enjoy some wine at the bar in this old school top-level American steakhouse establishment.

The Lady who looked after us , Daisha knocked it out of the park! Professional and friendly - it so makes a difference We will be back real soon, when we return to PDX!!

This was out night of decadent indulgence in Portland. This was one of the best steakhouses I have been to and I have been to a lot. We were impressed with the service, settings, and most importantly the food. Feeling no shame of starting off big, we got the Chilled Fruits of the Seafood appetizer. It says it can feed 4, but we shamelessly devoured it between the two of us. All the seafood on it was the freshest and well prepared that it could be. This platter has to be one of the biggest we have indulged in and worth every penny which actually wasn't as expensive considering all that you got on it. The 12oz. dry-aged filet mignon was grilled to perfection and the prosciutto wrapped tomahawk pork chop was over the top. Everything was so delicious and beautifully plated with the perfect accompaniments for each meat. We finished off the evening with very rich and satisfying flourless chocolate cake that could satisfy any sweet tooth with out being to sickening sweet yet very rich and fulfilling. The Spanish coffee was also and amazing finisher that completed the experience. This restaurant will be first on my list to return to when visiting Portland again and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a fine meal.

I attended a group event with work colleagues from around the country. The dining room was perfect. Service could not have been better. I enjoyed the salmon, but I watched people eat the steak and the vegetarian pasta. Everyone loved their dinner. Slice of cheesecake was enormous. Servers were friendly and fast. Those drinking wine always had a full glass. Clean bathrooms.

Have been coming here for breakfast, dinner or lunch for many years, and it is still such an amazing place! The historic murals are so wonderful, and the tile floors from 1909 I think, have been restored. It is like time travel to go in here. Fabulous coffee, a perfect breakfast of roasted potatoes, eggs super crisp bacon and the always good biscuits. Thank heavens they still have good jam too! Prices very reasonable- same price as a marginal place but a luxurious trip back in time. Be sure to walk around into the hotel, and look at all the murals and other art work.

Saturday night we had reservations for dinner at 5:30 and had mentioned we were celebrating our sons 40th birthday. Our server whose name was Maryann, was probably our WORST server we have ever had! She was very rude and never smiled. When you asked her a question about the menu she didn’t have any knowledge about any items. We sat the with empty water glasses during the whole meal, she never came by and asked us if everything was okay. Three of us ordered salmon and it was full of bones. Our waitress told us “Sometimes that happens “ . Needless to say no one finished the BONEY salmon. On the way out I stopped and talked to the manager and explained to him that no one even wished my son a happy birthday . I told him I had confirmed that when they called me to confirm our reservation. I also told him that Maryann provided the worst service we have ever had! All he told me is I’m sorry about that, next time you come in ask for me and I’ll make sure you are taken care of! All I told him is it’s too bad but my son only turns 40 once! If I were you I would save my money and go elsewhere!

What isn’t good about Jake’s Happy Hour? Moderately priced wine, cheap eats (the roasted brussel sprouts at $3 are to die for, and the $5 burger is a steal). Luckily we have an old friend who loves the place, so we have an excuse to stop by whenever we’re in Portland.

Louie salad delish! Lots of crab meat! Misty was thorough, pleasant, and responsive. Nice warm feel!

This is a long time steak and seafood restaurant in a historical building that is now owned by a large chain. The meals served here are large portions and both the steak and seafood are some of the best you’ll get in Portland. The building itself is a little old and worn out. The service is good.

Had the Shrimp Scampi. Prior night had basically the same thing at a Thai restaurant. Shrimp with noodles at half the price and just as good.

Ate at Jake's Grill and the entire experience was outstanding. Friendly waitstaff and excellent service. The food was absolutely fantastic. The wine was a true compliment to dinner. If you eat at only one place while you are in Portland....this must be the place!!!

Not quite the level of Jake’s Crawfish, despite the large overlap in menu and pretty much identical ambiance. The food, drinks and service are very good, but... if you're like me and get excited at Famous Jake the next night, you'll notice the difference. Just feels like the little brother...

We went to Jake’s for Happy Hour on the recommendation of friends and were not disappointed! It had a nice Friday-after-work vibe. The staff was upbeat and efficient. The selection of local wines was great. We ordered roasted brussel sprouts, hummus plate and salmon tacos. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend this place. !

I took several of my best customers to Jake's for Dinner. I let the folks know a head that we needed a good experience and they delivered. Outstanding, professional waitress, wonderful wine selections and everybody seemed very happy with their selections. Couldn't be happier with the event, the service of the food. There really isn't an effective valet situation here though. You park in the hotel which ran $25.00, but the ended up parking the car on the street instead so not sure why we paid $25.00 - anyway - we all enjoyed and I would highly recommend.

1 steak ordered mid rare came out burnt to a crisp. Other steak ordered medium was still mooing when it arrived at the table. One would think a slightly upper end steakhouse could in fact cooks steaks to the correct temp. To top it off. Drinks sat at the pass while the server ate food off the line. Thanks open kitchen for that view.

Came into town for a family reunion. We all loved the food and the service was impeccable. The atmosphere was very old-school classy. Would definitely eat here the next time we're in Portland!

Went here with a friend, after hearing about their old school vibe, and their classic wooden interior. Started off with their French Onion soup, which I heard was legendary. It did not disappoint. Had the 6 oz filet, medium rare, with baked potato. Both were absolutely perfect and hit the spot!

We decided to try Jake’s Grill and it did not disappoint! We were in the mood for steak and prime rib and both meals were expertly prepared and absolutely delicious! I highly recommend a Visit if you’re in downtown Portland. Also the interior and exterior Tartarian architecture and craftsmanship was magnificent!

Staff was very friendly and food was ok. Not sure if I am underrating the food because I am from Houston and the foodie scene is so superb that everywhere else seems sort of blah, but I don’t think so. I travel a lot and other places have food that is pretty good. This was ok. Fine. Just not wow.

Our first visit to Jake's Grill this past weekend. Its in a historic building, but much more open and roomy compared to Jake's Crayfish which is down the street. The food was good. I don't think they have the best steaks in Portland (self proclaimed), but they weren't bad by any means. My wife ordered the Filet Oscar and she found a pretty good size chunk of crab shell in her topping. My baked potato wasn't completely cooked and I was done with my meal by the time our waitress came around to see if we needed anything. I took it home, it was good the next day (the replacement one that is). I really liked that they had non alcoholic mixed drinks, someone high up must be a non drinker as this is almost unheard of... so bonus points for that. (I'm talking beyond the standard "virgin" version of regular mixed drinks). All in all we weren't disappointed.

Old world atmosphere and scrumptious cuisine. The menu is limited but every entree our party of five tried was delicious from the salmon to the beef. Similarly with the dessert selections--my daughter loved the creme brulee and I got my chocolate fix fully sated with the flourless cake. The only reason I cannot give a five star rating is that our server was subpar--a pity because everything but the service was stellar.

We have eaten here many times over the years, tonight was a big disappointment. You would have thought there was a convention in town, they put our table of 4 in one of the back rooms with tables for 8 to 15, needless to say, it was noisy, service was poor, and the food quality was subpar. First, the meat came out well done, I ordered med-rare, I sent it back and the chef brought out a new plate with the meat RARE, and he asked who ordered this rare, I wasn't going to send it back. I told him it was fine. More rare was better than more well done. the next time we go we will demand a table near the bar or up front or else we will go somewhere else.

I ate here with a small group of coworkers the night before our business event. The atmosphere was lively enough but not crazy, and the waitstaff was dressed nicely in a classic uniform. I really enjoyed the early 20th century building and style. Some might find it a little old fashioned, but I enjoyed it. The menu is classic American, with a mix of steak and seafood and other classic dishes. I had the French onion soup, recommended by our waitress, and it was very good (I consider myself a connoisseur). Some of the guys I was with had steak, as well as some seafood, and everyone was pleased with their food. Overall, a good dinner.

Very nice and welcoming fine dining restaurant in Portland downtown. Great range of grilled meal options to select and a nice variety of wine to pair. Customized and friendly service.

Immediately served waitress aware of our time. The promptness was exceptional. We got our drinks and food in excellent time. Murete was fabulous

Spouse and I sitting at the bar on a weekday evening..New Years week..great staff. Historic environment, lots of history that I feel very connected to due to my family’s long Portland history. Great drinks and bar food and bartenders!

Three cousins met for a birthday lunch. Food was excellent and a free chocolate decadent dessert was provided when the waiter learned it was a birthday lunch. Attentive service.

Came for lunch. Old style grill that has been restored to former glory. Staff are kitted out in traditional French style with waistcoats and starched aprons. Greeted in a warm way. Sam took my order and looked after me very well. Started with a small cup of chowder, which was very creamy and thick. A nice small tasty starter. Followed this with an excellent seared beef tenderloin salad with delicious crispy toast covered with goats cheese. A most enjoyable lunch before leaving Portland to fly home. Recommend.

Jakes Grill is our preferred meeting place for cocktails and dinner with husbands and friends. It's a beautiful old building with all the "best friends" on the employee team. Food's great, drinks are great, wait staff is exceptional, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. Manny, Meretta, Anthony, and Vicky are our favorites. We come multiple times a month.

Our waitress was amazing & nice. The food was delicious. They went above and beyond to make it feel special for our anniversary.

A friend and I attended the Santa Tea hosted by Jake’s catering. I learned about the tea on Jake’s Grill website. When we went to pay we noticed a 22% banquet fee charged to each of our bills. There was no information about being charged this fee. When we asked they explained it was a banquet fee and when we further pressed the matter he said it was the servers tip. We asked him to take it off of our bill and we would leave the server a tip. He did take it off the bill and we provided the server a 20% tip. Otherwise we were concerned that she wouldn’t receive a tip at all. Based on the fact that this was indeed a banquet fee we feel that she would indeed not have gotten a tip. On top of that they ended up charging me for two teas. I contacted the caterer and she acknowledged that they failed to put that on the website. And they Have another tea coming up this following weekend and they would notify guests. The tea fee is $42. So with the 22% banquet fee that they want to charge You are looking at over $50, which I think is outrageous for the tea that they serve. Needless to say after all of this we will not be attending events through Jake’s Grill catering service.

On a recent trip to Portland, we ate several times at Jake's Grill (once for brunch, once for lunch). The food and service were superb! And the butterscotch pudding and shortbread is not to be missed.

Our Ohio State Law School study group met for dinner at Jake's Grill upon each of us flying into Portland from all over the country. This is an impressive restaurant for classy old-style decor, warm atmosphere, delicious food and friendly service. They have an impressive wine list - we enjoyed multiple bottles of the Adelsheim Willamette Valley pinot noir.

I was in town for the Hood to Coast race. We went here as a celebratory dinner on the day after the race. The food was excellent. I had the 6oz filet and it was fantastic. Great flavor, no fattyness and perfectly done. I also had the fries and they were thick steak fries that had really good flavor as well. To top it off, the bread was really good too. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good food and service. Let down by management. I came here because of a voucher given to me by the Moxy hotel across the street. I sat at the bar and ordered a dozen oysters, fries and a wedge salad. I also drank a martini and the most expensive glass of Coravin wine (more expensive than some mains.) Total bill for just myself came to $120. I gave my voucher to the bartender and he said ‘well you didn’t order a starter and a main but you ate and drank a lot. I’m sure we can honor this.’ Asked his manager and the response was no. I swallowed that and left as they were closing and I had a few drinks in me and didn’t want to be argumentative. Returned the next day and explained it to the manager on duty (Allison) who said ‘of course we should honor your voucher! You ate and drank a lot.’ I left with the assurance my $18 would be returned. It’s 3 weeks later and nothing. I can’t bear foolishness like this. I would’ve never gone there absent the voucher, so it did what it was intended to - get a new customer to spend a lot of money - which I did. Not honoring the spirit of their promotion is unethical.

40 minute wait for coffee at breakfast. No apology. The manager was rude. DO NOT EAT HERE! The worst service I have ever experienced. The hotel should warn guests away.

Great decor with art deco murals and sidewalk seating. The wedge salad was great and my steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. A nice spot in Portland

Went to Jake's Grill for Thanksgiving dinner this year. You can beat Jake's for the atmosphere and the service was very good. I had the Thanksgiving dinner which was good but not great. My companions ordered off the main menu and were very satisfied.

We had a business dinner at Jakes and all of our steaks (6) were excellent - juicy with the right amount of seasoning. The wait staff were excellent as well

Pros: The staff was kind. The food was delicious and not terribly expensive! I had the bavette and prawns. Perfectly cooked steak! The prawns looked more like shrimp, but were delicious. Also, the happy hour portions looked huge! Cons: None.

On our first night in Portland, Jake’s was recommended to our party of four by a fellow traveler in our hotel lobby. When we arrived, we were seated immediately in the bar area, and I noticed that it was fairly crowded with a friendly atmosphere. The menu had lots of options, and we first chose appetizers. My husband and I had the calamari, and our friends ordered the crab and lobster dip. Both were very good. My husband also ordered the split pea soup and declared it was the best he’d ever eaten! For the main course, three of us ordered the Alaskan cod fish and chips, with my friend’s husband ordering the salmon. Everyone was very satisfied with their meals, with the only negative comment being about how the Cole slaw was a very small portion that tasted like it had been out too long. Service was efficient and friendly. Would go back again if we ever returned to Portland!

Our party of 4 chose Jake's for dinner after The Singing Christmas Tree. My wife had the pork chop gluten-free and I had the crab and shrimp stuffed salmon. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. The restaurant was perfect for talking with friends and having a great meal.

Wife and I popped in here at end of shopping day in downtown Portland. The bar area is larger and deeper into the building than you can see form the street or front door. We were able to find a nice table and were promptly engaged by a wonderful server. The martini and manhattan were perfect. Wife ordered the hummus plate and another starter dish and I had the crab and shrimp cake. Wonderful fresh food. Great ambiance around the bar area. Fun place to go.

Our server was nice enough, we could never find him and to our surprise had no idea which of the steak cuts were prime or choice! He went to the line cook and was told that the filet’s were choice, not prime. My $18 5 shrimp cocktail was served askew on a plate, and promptly tipped over spilling everything. It took repeated requests including me finding a manager to get a bread refill for our table. Numerous requests for water refills. My steak was a disaster and had to be sent back. It was to be Pittsburg medium rare, but was more of a hardened burned well done hockey puck that my steak knife could not cut. They did redo it, it was better, but completely dried out. Now I’m not sure the redo was the prime I paid for. The atmosphere was phenomenal, I wished the food would have matched.

We went here for dinner and the food was amazing, especially the peppercorn sauce for the steak. The service was just okay. Our waitress didn't know the wine menu or have any recommendations for wine, but the food was delicious. Our relatively positive experience led us to try this for breakfast. Again, the food was hid, but the breakfast service was horrendous. Awful. The menu claimed the Belgium waffle came with fresh fruit, syrup, toasted almonds and whipped cream. When we got it, just whipped cream and told would have to pay extra for fruit. When I asked her to show me where it said that on the menu, I was told she would tell me "when she had time." By the time we got the fruit, the waffle was cold and halfway gone. By the time we got the syrup, the waffle was basically gone. We never got the almonds. Skip this place for breakfast.

Jake's Grill was very conveniently located across the street from our hotel. The food and drinks were pretty good. In fact, we came here twice during our four day stay in Portland. We mistakenly thought this was Jake's Crawfish, which was one of the restaurants I wanted to try while in town, but I'm glad we stumbled upon this instead. The first time, we came in on a Saturday evening for happy hour. Yes, they have happy hour (bar only) even on weekends from 4 to 6 PM! This would be unheard of in NYC. They have both drink and food specials. For drinks, I had the Pear-Adise (Absolut Pear, lime juice, simple syrup, orange juice, sprite). I'm not normally a fan of flavored vodkas but I was in a pear-y mood and I'm really glad I ordered this. It was really good, and not overly sweet. I ended up getting two of these! For food, we had: Raw Oyster Shooters - this was very meh. Unfortunately, it was drowning in cocktail sauce so that's all I tasted. I couldn't even taste the oyster Dungeness Crab and Lobster Dip - this was basically like an artichoke dip with lobster. It was really good (but rich) and is served with some fresh pita bread American Kobe Beef Carpaccio (served with baby arugula, truffle oil, garlic oil, crostini) - this was my favorite. Everything just went really well together. It was like having a mini (raw) beef sandwich The second time, we came on a Sunday night because my husband noticed they have a prime rib special on Sunday nights. This time, I tried the 2 Berry Punch cocktail (DL Franklin vodka, orange and lemon juice, blackberries, strawberries, simple syrup). I could only have one because it was way too sweet for me. For food, to start off, we ordered half a dozen oysters and some New England clam chowder to share. The chowder was a nice way to start the meal. The oysters on the other hand were just mediocre. Some of them were not shucked correctly. As for the special, for $36, you get two pieces of prime rib, mashed potatoes, carrots & green beans, and a soup or salad. This was pretty good but I must say that the star of the show was actually the salad. It wasn't a typical mixed salad, but it also had mandarin orange, candied walnuts, blue cheese, dried cranberries, with a raspberry vinaigrette. I don't even like walnuts but something about it just worked. For my main, I ordered the Northwest Cedar Plank Salmon (lemon thyme risotto, seasonal vegetable, harvest squash purée). I usually don't like cooked salmon because it tends to be overcooked but I really wanted to try the salmon up in the Pacific Northwest since it's supposed to be good. Unfortunately, it was in fact overcooked. But I did like the harvest squash puree - it was unique. Overall, I think I enjoyed the happy hour experience better than the full dinner experience. I would recommend just coming for the happy hour specials and filling up on that.

Always a great time. Merete and Manny are the best. Great food and drinks but better even better and banter and service. Brantley

Took forever for cocktails to arrive. Waiter didn’t bother to check on food after we took a few bites or he would have learned that all the seafood was overcooked, especially the swordfish so tough had to use a steak knife. By the time he checked on us it was too late to have new food. Fried food tastes like cooked in old oil. Worse part is manager never visited table to apologize or explain so guess this is par for the course. First time at Jakes and will be the last time. Only good thing is I still had fun because I was in great company.

The service by the waitstaff was excellent, flawless. The food was good - not inspired perhaps, but entirely competent. So why the low rating? I'm massively dissatisfied with the service by the hostess who seated us, and that colored the entire experience. When I made the reservation on-line a week or two in advance, I requested a booth by the windows if possible. When we arrived, the hostess told me that she couldn't seat us in a window booth. Fair enough - they were quite busy, and all the open window tables were set for parties of four. So we were seated at a table for two next to an interior partition. Not bad; and not what I'd asked for. 15 minutes after we arrived, another couple were shown to a table in the middle of the dining room. The woman was obviously not pleased, wouldn't sit down, spoke to the same hostess who'd seated us. The hostess left, came back, and proceeded to seat them in a window booth one table removed from us. She (or perhaps the waitstaff) picked up the two now-superfluous place settings. This tweaked my playground sense of justice. When I caught her attention, I asked her to explain why that couple rated and we didn't. She said the restaurant seats by server, and the server for the table we were seated at was "up" when we came in. The problem with that is - our server was also taking care of that booth. I told the hostess she needs to come up with a better excuse, and asked to speak with the manager. When I explained the situation, the manager offered to move us to a booth, which now apparently was possible. We were halfway through our meal, so we declined. He then invited us to sign up for their "frequent diner" program, which includes "preferential seating." I'll give him this - he doesn't lack for gall. I'm pretty sure we'll pass on that, since we have no intention of ever going back.

Needs five stars! HH food great. Meriette(spelling) was our server, efficient and pleasant. Atmosphere was nice. Recommend a visit.

I ate here the night following my dinner at its sister restaurant Jake’s Famous Crawfish. Like the former, Jake’s Grill, by virtue of their shared ownership (McCormicks, I believe) is of the Legacy Restaurant category, a solid good, but not special. I avoid these places at home in SF. This is a newer place, so it lacks the period charm of Jake’s FC (although Jake’s FC wasn’t heavy on period itself). I realized later there were more solid choices for steaks. I came for a ribeye, but while all the steaks above were listed as prime, the 13oz ribeye was choice. A 20oz Black Angus ribeye ended up as my choice. Medium rare. It came out 1/2” thick!!! WTF. Nice flavor, nothing to complain about. It not what I was expecting. I’d ordered 6 oysters, then a duck confit flat bread. The oysters were fresh and opened to order (they’d seemed pre-opened at JFC) delicious! So too was the flatbread, delicious, but really made for two to share. Piggy shouldn’t have eaten so much of it. Nothing outstanding on the desert menu so I had the crème brûlée with a 10 year port. All in all nothing beyond expectation. You can do so much better in Portland. The staff was faultless and good at their jobs.

We took the family here for our Christmas Eve dinner because we knew we'd have an excellent meal with excellent service. Once again, Jake's proved this true. One of the best restaurants in the country.

Knowledgeable waiters wearing ties, black vests and floor-length aprons confidently serve tasty, well-prepared entrees. From out table we could see the prep area which worked like a well-oiled machine.

We were walking down the street from our hotel and ran across this restaurant. We were looking for a breakfast place at dinner time. LOL, we looked at the menu and decided to have dinner here. It was the best decision of my trip to Portland. The food was excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere was a date night to remember.

My wife and I had a delicious dinner in Jake's during our recent visit to Portland. We made a reservation to be on the safe side, but the restaurant wasn't that busy on the evening of our visit. We loved the ambience, the starched tablecloths, and the general feel of a classy steakhouse. The food was delicious and the timing of the service was perfect - not too fast, and not too slow. And to top it all off, the meal was very reasonable compared to similar (but not as nice) meals in other restaurants in Portland. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our meal at Jake's prior to a large concert that night at Moda Center. We had made a booking weeks earlier to ensure we would have a square meal before dancing off the calories later. Still, the restaurant was very crowded and we could feel the craziness a little bit in service and timing. That all said, nothing was delayed (drinks perhaps a few minutes, but not much) and our server was up front with us about what was going on. I would be delighted to return on a night when things are a bit slower and we don't have another destination. The food was fresh and well-presented/prepared. I can see why this is a "standard" in PDX.

They have a great happy hour and late happy hour menu. A $5 cheeseburger and fries. Full sized portion. How can you go wrong. And the roasted Brussels sprouts were awesome too.

This place seems to be confused about what a seared steak and a charred steak is. I ordered a $38 sirloin medium rare that was absolutely burnt to a crisp on the outside. It tasted like dirt. I was only able to have a bite. Rather than remove it from our bill or at least comp part of the price the waitress still charged us the full amount. This place is worse then mediocre.

This is Jakes Grill, downtown Portland Oregon in the Sentinel Hotel I don’t know how TripAdvisor got this SO WRONG.

Made a reservation on arrival in Portland earlier the same day, we were welcomed warmly to the restaurant like “regulars” and seated promptly. Restaurant staff seemed knowledgeable and were very attentive, service was good, our seating was comfortable and we enjoyed our food, mainly starters, - kumo(?) oysters, crab & shrimp cakes, crab cocktail, roasted beet salad, crab cocktail and Caesar salad from which, unfortunately, the anchovies seemed to be missing. We were surprised to receive complimentary deserts and felt like VIPs! We will certainly return and recommend to others.

I have been going to this restaurant for a very long time. We went there for an early supper after going to the art museum on Easter. The clam chowder and the calamari were great. The one of the sauces with the calamari was a little strange and that should have been our clue. I ordered the "special" a stuffed halibut. The waiter who has served me many times in the past recommended it. It was awful the halibut tasted old and frozen it was a little grey. The stuffing was grotesque and the mashed potatoes tasted like metal. I sent it back because it was making me feel sick to look at it, the waiter brought me a crab louie. This is something I have ordered many times before and it was terrible too. My dinner partner brought there sautéd crab from there meal home to wash it it was floating in a grease filled dish. All the foods were over salted. I may return for the clam chowder but I will never eat another meal at Jakes.

We had the ribeye steak and the salmon & were delighted that they were cooked perfectly & were delicious. We would go back if we lived in Portland. We are members of Landry's & they are part of Landry's so we got points for eating there.

Great hamburgers, would not necessarily say they’re the best in Portland, but they’re definitely solid. Mostly a go to place for fish, but I was craving some beer.

I visited Jake’s Grill looking forward to a good steak and baked potato. I had the worst meal that I’ve had in a very long time. My waiter was friendly and efficient, and I have no complaints about the service. My filet, which I ordered medium, was barley warm when it arrived at my table. It was raw and cold in the middle, and it wasn’t even a good cut of beef. My baked potato was also not fully cooked. Honestly, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I would avoid at all costs. Blech.

Great steaks and nice atmosphere. The bartender was nice as I sat at the bar and talked about Portland with the person who had just arrived. Would recommend for a special dinner or event as the restaurant is really nice. Oh yeah, good wine selection as well.

Visiting Portland and we had dinner here with family who live in Portland. Fresh seafood, great atmosphere & service and always great to see family. Located in the Pearl district and downtown we had a great fish and chips & trout dinner with artichoke/spinach appetizer. Lots of one way streets so we had to find parking and walk. Will be back to sample other foods. Also want to try the "other" Jakes which I hear is much more casual.

I've been to Jake's Grill for a personal dinner as well as a corporate event. The personal dinner was delicious and had such a wonderful ambiance. I had the Calamari and the French Onion Soup and it was delightful. Would recommend. The corporate event was a retirement dinner held in the Hardy Room. It was a cocktail hour style event with trays of food that I had pre-ordered. All of the food was delicious. The spanakopita was especially popular. The drinks were always full. Both experiences the service was exceptional. Would recommend!

A bit pricey outside of happy hour. We didn’t time it visit correctly but enjoyed yummy drinks, good chowder and attentive service in elegant atmosphere.

After walking around downtown Portland, we stopped in at this upscale dining venue at the recommendation of someone in the visitor information center. We were not disappointed. We chose Northwest selection so: crab & lobster dip with a salmon entree. Excellent food. Service was average. The prices were surprisingly moderate for the quality of food. All in all, a great lunch.

Restaurant has lots of old wood and is interestingly decorated. The waitress was fantastic but the food was rather mediocre. I asked an employee to assist in calling a cab and they directed me to the hotel behind them (which I was not a guest) for assistance.

Nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. Great bar! Staff was excellent. I ate here for appetizers and dinner. Had drinks with friends one evening as well. I would recommend it to anyone. The food was top notch.

Every dish we ordered was beautifully prepared and presented and very large portions. Very good drinks menu as well. Lovely room in an old fashioned building. Excellent service. Highly recommended.

It was surprisingly quiet in there when we ate breakfast. Located in the heart of downtown, the service was above average for Portland, and the food (eggs bene and pancakes was really good). I'd go back if we're ever in Portland again.

Been here many a time as I work close by. This time it was a group celebration of 15. The restaurant printed up a custom menu with name of our group and occasion. Everyone loved their food including chicken and steelhead. Waiter(s) was very attentive and flexible, (we had some guests arriving late and one had to leave early but all were accommodated). The restaurant is in a historic hotel and features beautiful traditional interiors with lots of wood. There are numerous spaces for varying sizes of groups too. We’ve used it for many group dinners.

Brunch was great. I had the Granola with yogurt and it came with a ton of fruit. Others had the breakfast trio; pancakes, eggs and bacon. Looked great. $3 mimosas too.

This is a McCormick & Schmidt venture as it is in one of their former locations where they try to rebrand themselves. What they do best is the fish offerings. We had an excellent salmon special. The down rating is because of the average cocktails. The mixed berry desert was a perfect ending.

My husband loves coming here every time we are in Portland for their great happy hour. Great service and food in a cool atmosphere.

Portland has so many options for dining and it was a challenge for us to pick a few different places to try. Jake's Grill won for the 1st night. It wasn't too far from our hotel and was of a well known group. We had a reservation and enjoyed our meal and service. The restaurant had a nice setting along with a large bar area. This was a true classic American Grill. Being seafood lovers, we wanted to try some of the specials of the Pacific NW. We started with the Dungenees Crab cake. Then we had the Blackened Wild Alaskan Rockfish and Steelhead with horseradish crust (both were very good including the sides that came with them). I was hesitant to try the Steelhead (since it wasn't salmon) but it tasted pretty close and was very good. Everything was terrific. This location had similar menu items to their sister restaurants and it was closer and less expensive. If you are looking for fresh seafood in a classic setting, give Jake's Grill a shot.

We had friends from out of state visiting. One guest is not a seafood person and the other is....searched for steak and seafood kind of place downtown PDX. We had a great meal and service at Jake's Grill. Note - ask for a table by the window if you are a party of four. The tables looked a little cozier but we were fine with our table too. Service was friendly and efficient. We ordered desserts to share and yummy cheesecake and berry cobbler. We will go back!

Stayed at the hotel and ate here a couple of times. Food is alright and the service is the same. Like the hotel itself the place is good, but could have been so much more with a couple of changes.

This is probably the absolute best dessert in PDX right now. I hope it stays on their menu for a long time! This is not the traditional bananas foster with booze and flambé - it is much, much better. The whole thing is about 6inches tall and about 3+ inches across. Start with a layer of chocolate cake, then a thick layer of extremely creamy chocolate mousse, then a thick layer of vanilla ice cream with a big chunk of homemade caramel buries inside and a layer of whipped cream on top with chocolate cookie crumbs. Then all around it on the plate is more caramel and caramelized banana. WOW. Glad my husband helped me eat it! We enjoyed every bite. The rest of the meal was also great with good service- good bread and butter, my favorite blue cheese & walnut salad, crab and shrimp hot dip with flatbread and shrimp radiatore with peppers and a great sauce. My husband had the rockfish with risotto cake and the roasted beet salad. A wonderful anniversary meal with great service too!

Went to Jakes for dinner during a weekend trip to Portland and it did not disappoint. The service was phenomenal, attentive but not overly so. The restaurant has a warm welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, I had the crab cakes and my husband the fillet, yum.

I had breakfast and dinner. Both experiences were very satisfying. I have no pictures, but other reviews show the mouthwatering dishes. Breakfast was a perfect Denver omelet, biscuits and gravy, and bloody Mary. The waitress DAISHA & gentleman host was very professional, efficient & kind. Dinner was French onion soup, mixed green salad, shrimp pomodoro, & Heineken beer. The waiter MICHAEL & same gentleman host topped everything off with impeccable, attentive & kind service. I highly recommend a visit here!

This is THE traditional grill with all you can expect from it : premium meats, old fashion staff, classic decoration.

Menu is extensive with meat poultry and fish selection. It has a large bar with many drink choices. We were able to dine which we all like our waitress was excellent and helpful. Our appetizer and main entree were delicious my wife had filet and I had scallops both were excellent. Nice atmosphere restaurant is huge with many rooms so you are not cramped and able to dine.

An absolute favorite. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is consistently exceptional. Erica is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel instantly at ease. Manny is charming and delivers thoughtful, polished service every time. And Anthony is an incredible mixologist—his drinks are always balanced and expertly crafted. While the food is consistently excellent, it is due to the amazing staff that I will always come back. Highly recommend.

It goes until closing, fantastic deals ($9 carpaccio with arugula salad, $7 half-pound burger with drinks, $3 cauliflower, $3 bruschetta) and similar deals on wine and drinks. Can't miss!

We had looked forward to going to Jakes, especially for their specialty, veal T-bone. We ordered and after almost 30 minutes the highly incompetent waitress advised us there was only one veal tbone available. We had ordered 5. We reordered with the result of me having a filet mignon on the rare side. It was brought to me on the well done side. They finally replaced it with a nice filet. The one in our party who was fortunate to get the veal reported it as being very dry. Will probably not return.

Had a lovely lunch...the food was delicious and the cocktails were amazing! Great atmosphere and excellent service. Will definitely have dinner and breakfast here next time we stay at Sentinel.

My party of 6 had just checked in at the Hampton Pearl, and we were ready for an early dinner. Jeri suggested Jake's and pointed it out on a map. We made the easy walk and after a brief wait were seated. A couple of us had the seafood bisque, which was very tasty. I had a Pacific salmon cooked to perfection. Another ordered smoked trout, which was delicious. The service was friendly, though it was a bit slow. Overall the service and food were very good. I would definitely recommend this place and return when I'm back in Portland.

What a historical find. It is a throwback to dark wood and lots of whiskey with great steaks. We ate at the bar. Steak bites were remarkable. Great pour on drinks.

Five of us ate dinner at Jake's Grill this evening for my mother's 85th birthday. Our waiter was nice and tried hard, but the kitchen was off. The ribeye steak was undercooked and stringy, the crab cake was cold inside, the scallops were tasty, but had unadvertised bacon for a non-meat eater (they made another one without bacon). The grilled king salmon was good, as were the Caesar Salad and the complementary creme brûlée that the waiter provided as a peace offering at the end.

Delighted to have a white tablecloth breakfast again at Jakes. Meghan was a friendly hostess; the granola with fresh fruit and yogurt was delicious; and the biscuit was fresh and warm. Wonderful to renew the experience of a nice breakfast early in the day. Hope more people catch on. And its not too expensive either.

We were there for dinner. Great food, attentive server. Made a vegan option for my wife and provided free dessert with candles when they found out it was our wedding anniversary. Highly recommended.

Really good quality food in a beautiful location! All the ingredients are fresh & prepared by chef specialists. Gorgeous full bar and ballrooms for large events in a classic theatrical building with historic American steakhouse vibes

Great night out with the fam! Michael was accommodating and helpful which made dining out with two kids actually enjoyable.

Recommend.

Had a nice dinner sitting outside. Service was great. Cocktails were made well. We only ordered dinner without apps or desserts. Highly recommend the delicious pork chop! As for the steaks everyone else ordered, the chef seemed to be having a difficult time getting the cooking done correctly. Asked for a rare steak, and it came medium well..they immediately replaced it with a seared and raw steak. Medium rare steaks were overdone also. Totally not edible. Very disappointing considering their steaks are sooooooo overpriced! I would consider one of the other steak restaurants in Portland over this one.

Awesome brunch for sundays!!! Authentic place that has very good and complete brunch! Service was very nice

We were looking for seafood and steak place. Saw this place and reviews were good. While it is a “franchise” it is very good. The place is in an old historical building. There are many rooms with deep rich wood and a fabulous staircase. Service was very good. Everything we had was excellent.

My wife and I dined at Jake's after failing to get in at Portland City Grill. As fate would have it- it couldn't have been better. I had a pork chop, my wife the swordfish. Both were OUTSTANDING and although not inexpensive, wasn't ridiculously priced. A Portland Classic that won't disappoint!

Excellent service, delicious food, and warm, welcoming environment! They recently remodeled and it looks beautiful! The GM was warm and genuine when he visited our table. Will definitely return!

I started off with the Oregon Dungeness Crab & Lobster Dip appetizer. It had a thin consistency. I didn't see any lobster in it. While it was tasty, it didn't have the Dungeness Crab flavor that I was expecting. The flat bread that came with it was good. They were out of the wine on the menu that I wanted. They left my water glass empty. Twice. I ordered the 6 oz. filet medium well. It came out red and bloody in the middle. I sent it back. It came back pink. By then, I had been there an hour and was tired and hungry. For an app and a meal, $62.

This is the first time eating at this restaurant and the overall experience was very good! The service was good! The meals were very good. The decor of the restaurant was interesting. This place is pricey. If you come before 5:00 p.m. the prices are too bad!

Stopped in for a nice dinner after a long day of hiking so I was starving. I decided to order the New York strip which was a 14oz cut and for the side I went with the garlic mashed potatoes. The place has the look and feel of a classic steakhouse which I truly enjoyed. The service was friendly and attentive however my steak was under cooked which was disappointing. The mashed potatoes were good however I felt the portion was a tad small. Overall not a bad meal and I might go back and give them another try should I be in town again.

Another great meal at Jake's Grill. Thank you Sara for excellent attentive service. The food arrived on time, cooked to order. Great atmosphere, and excellent teamwork between the front and back of the house.

This was the second night of my three-night Portland seafood restaurant tour. Although Jake's is perhaps better known for it's steaks, I thought I would try one of their seafood options. It has some similar menu items as Jake's Famous Crawfish but at somewhat lower prices. This meal was satisfying in every way but not outstanding. Service was attentive and careful. I found the sturgeon good but not as fresh as I hoped around the edges. It was very simply prepared and came with rice. Decent meal with nice presentation but nothing spectacular. The draft beer from a Portland brewery was ok. The espresso chocolate cake was too rich and not really a cake. Didn't have any home-made taste to it. All-in-all ok but there are better options.

We were visiting the downtown area and we had looked at the food trucks in the area but decided a bar and grill sounded better. The had quite a few low priced food options on their happy hour menu. I chose the cheeseburger with fries ( under $6.00) and got a strawberry basil smash. My husband had a beer and a prime rib sandwich that came with mashed potatoes. My burger was delicious and the fries were hand cut and crispy and served piping hot. The strawberry basil smash looked like a girlie drink but had plenty of kick. It was very good. My husband enjoyed his food as well. I would definitely eat ( and drink ) here again.

Very nice food and customer service! Daisha is the goat!!! She should be the manager!!!

My Brother in-law wanted to go here even though it was downtown and the traffic was pretty bad (not the restaurants fault). We had called ahead and asked if they had outdoor seating which they said they did but when we got there the seating was right on the sidewalk and wasn't very inviting...to us at least. So we opted to eat inside and ended up being comfortable with that. Not many people around us and the staff was masked up and attentive. I had the rib-eye which was very good, get the mashed potatoes!

We had a wonderful lunch at Jake's Grill. We did notice that the lunchtime crowd is mostly business people, but we didn't feel out of place at all, even with me in a T-Shirt and shorts. Our server Bo was great. He was able to answer all our questions and provided great service. I had the Pan Fried Oysters which were outstanding. I love Fried Oysters and these were some of the best I have had. My wife had the Fish & Chips which were cooked to perfection. If we lived in Portland, we would make Jake's a regular stop. Excellent experience!

We have eaten at this restaurant numerous times when visiting Portland. Although we love the value and choice of Happy Hour selections, we chose the grill this time. I ordered their meatloaf and mashed potatoes with Brussel sprouts. It is always consistently good and it was. My hubby had a very good pasta, We went on a Monday eve and we were surprised how few customers were there ...unlike the past.

We escaped our questionable hotel this morning, with surprisingly good advice from the receptionist at the front desk that "Jake's was our best bet" for breakfast. Very good advice. We like old time diners, but this was an old-time clubroom breakfast, with lots of well-varnished wood and a waiter with an apron. Ah yes, and white tablecloths adorning the tables. The room was quiet, with just a few clients, but I'm told this is the norm on a Saturday morning in Portland. I like the norm. We were given a full breakfast menu with all the usual suspects. Fine. But my wife still found a dish she had not enjoyed for thirty years: Jake's Hangtown Fry. I chose a Denver omelet. Both were served in good time, and were warm to hot upon arrival on the table. Both breakfasts were delicious. The waiter was attentive, but given the light clientele, still not doting; just there when we wanted a coffee refill or more water. We chose a table at one of the window, to watch passersby as we discussed our next steps in our Oregon exploration. What a pleasant beginning!

I had blackened fish, which was cooked to perfection. Sauces and garnishes were delicious, and plating was lovely. The restaurant's take on a mojito is very good, and the creme brulee was to die for. It is definitely not a cheap place to eat but the quality is worth the price.

Manny and Merete are not only great at their jobs, the warmth and kindness they do their work with is very much appreciated. It’s wonderful to come to this bar after a busy day and feel like you belong, simply based upon the kindness of the wait staff. A destination in itself! Thank you Jake’s and thank you Manny and Merete!

Lunch for my friend’s birthday was perfect. The food was delicious, server could not have been better and they even surprised her with a decadent piece of chocolate lava cake for her birthday!

After discovering a long wait at our original restaurant, we decided to walk around and ended up at Jake's Grill after seeing the breakfast menu by the doorway. However, upon sitting down, I guess we mis-read as they were serving lunch instead. Nonetheless, we were looking forward to the meal. Two of us had the fish and chips, one had a sandwich (forgot which but the bacon looked good in it) and one cedar plank steelhead. I also had the side salad and cranberry/strawberry sparkler. The food and drinks were surprisingly good and the service was good as well. The host saw we had a baby and asked about the need for hi-chair or booster. The waiter checked on us frequently. The environment was pleasant. The experience was great. We look forward to a dinner experience the next time we are in town.

I’ve been coming for over 10 years but never had their so-called steak au poivre. Not because of the $6 extra charge for it but for almost the same price as the (ap) you can get a full Berger and side plus lots of other great happy hour options! I really like both locations in Portland! However , the ribeye with the (ap) sauce was a disaster! There are no peppercorns in or on the steak, but supposedly in he sauce ! It sucks and doesn’t work as a pour! How it should be done is: 1) fresh peppercorns are crushed and pushed into steak. 2) brandy Cream sauce or just cream sauce is added while the steak is being cooked. 3) brandy is pored over steak and set aflame / searing outside of steak. None of this happens here - except paying 6 bucks for a crappy sauce that you can pour over what ever cut u get! This chain is part of Morton’s ! Most disappointing meal ever in Portland ! Gave them 2 stars because other food and staff is great ! Time to open the food text books!

We simply Love Jake's in downtown Portland, OR!! The servers are always welcoming and this time we had Annie...what a sweetie she is! From her first smile, through the ordering process (I have many food allergies and issues and she stayed positive and helpful throughout) we had a blast! We were there to have fun and a great meal and we had both! I had the Blue Plate Special (gave Dick the shrimp), and the chef took precautions that my food would be safe, which I REALLY appreciated! The Lemon Caper sauce he made for me melted in my mouth! And, no trip to Jake's is complete without their world-famous, house made Lemonade! Next time we'll pop in for an afternoon treat: Creme Brulee and a cuppa! Never disappointed in Jake's downtown Portland!

My friend and I were in Portland for a 50th birthday party and thought we'd pop in for a late lunch/early dinner at Jake's Grill one day. They sat us right away and our waiter, who mentioned he was still a little new, was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, and the portions were very large. If I'm ever in Portland again, and in the mood for an upscale meal, I'll definitely be stopping in again.

Everything at Jake’s is amazing. From the salad with Blue cheese, to their seafood dishes, dessert and an after dinner coffee you’ll be satisfied. The bartenders will make you any drink you want. 🍸

My husband and I were looking for a casual place to grab an early bite for dinner and almost stumbled upon Jake’s Grill. We were delighted to discover that they had a happy hour even though it was Saturday. The bar area was charming; our server was delightful and the food was great!

I had lunch there on a Saturday recently. It was quite good, the crab cocktail and the clam chowder quite memorable and delicious. My french dip was good but not great and came with peppers which seemed odd. Service was great, friendly and attentive too. A distinct old school setting as well. A fun visit with good food and fast friendly efficient service.

This place is a gem in my book, exact during my last visit. My wife gets salmon every time we go which is more than 2 times a month. The place is expensive. My wife had to send her food back 3 times. The waitress basically was too busy to take my entire order every time I asked for something. My wife had to ask for a fork 3 times because the waitress forgot. They comped our meal, but after the sideshow with our loyalty account, it will be awhile before we return (we convinced our friends and now I regret it)

Visited here for lunch during happy hour! Prices were pretty reasonable and the food was excellent! From the biscuits on the table, to the drinks, and the items I ordered everything was great! Warning: if they warn you the plates are hot they could be VERY STEAMING hot! I went to grab my plate and luckily was able to drop the plate quickly, or I wouldn’t of been able to feel my fingers.

Just in town for an evening and the lady at the hotel recommended this place. Very good in every way. From great service to great atmosphere, this place should not be missed when in the area.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, so we had to try it out. This happened to be just down the street from our hotel (Hyatt Centric) Food was incredible, service was awesome and friendly!

Liked the ambience and the staff were great. Good food and drink at a reasonable price. Happy hour as well!

busy happy hour, nice vibe and decor. server was friendly, not intrusive, but attentive enough. Enjoyed what we ordered and it was what we were looking for. American classic menu. Can be loud, but good for groups and families. Dress code Portland casual.

So I took my Customers here at 8pm on a Wednesday after a late meeting. My mixed feelings are that... once we received the food it was really good. The waiter snapped at my Chinese Customer that the plate was hot treating them like idiots The service was very slow and the waitress was not organized I spilt the bill and the slips were clearly in the right folder with the right card and she managed to mess it up and charge both to the wrong card. The worse part wAs it’s pending on my card and her explanation was it will just drop off. Two days later still pending ... So for the experience alone- I won’t go back

Nice selection of wines and great nosh! Unique deviled eggs, meatballs, sprouts and salmon tacos. Great happy hour and a great restaurant!
Brunch
Always enjoy Jake's. Service is usually great but if not good. The food is always spot on, flavorful, colorful, and something special. Like brown sugar bacon-yum! They make speciality drinks that are dynamite. Really enjoy the room, it was part of the former hotel, tile floors, wood, tin ceiling, you don't see this any more. The restaurant is clean and staff is friendly.
