The VERY best in Atlanta

By JeffBreedlove |

My wife and I have been eating at Jalisco since 1990 - I have to recommend them to everyone. This is the best Mexican restaurant in metro Atlanta - BY FAR - This is a family run restaurant and I have noticed many of the employees have been here for years. The chips and salsa are legendary. My standard is a cheese burrito - I love it. My wife gets the tacos and my son does as well - they love them. My traveler tips - Jalisco is closed on Sunday's and expect a wait on Friday and Saturday nights at dinner - but the wait is well worth it - they have been open since 1977 and it is full of locals in Atlanta... Enjoy.

Well established, neighborhood Mexican restaurant

By Traveler T |

When we used to live in Atlanta (Buckhead) we often frequented Jalisco, especially when our sons were young. While seating at the restaurant is tight, the service an food are consistent...even years later. Food is typical Mexican fare. The restaurant serves cold beer and mixed drinks in addition to soft drinks and water. As soon as you are seated the chips and salsa arrive. The food is served quickly but we never felt rushed. The restaurant is located in a shopping center but parking is not difficult to find. If you have young kids, they will not only love the food at Jalisco but also the stop at Baskin Robbins near by for dessert.

Great, authentic take-out !

By Carlyledeux |

Absolutely hot & delicious dinner for two: chicken burritos and pork tamales with wonderful chile con carne. Of course we enjoyed the chips & spicy salsa as accompaniment . Even better than we remembered and ready when promised.

Great Mexican Food!

By Julie A |

Very friendly service and awesome Mexican food! The cheese dip and salsa are the best! If you are coming to Atlanta you need to stop by this great restaurant.

Lunch Stop

By Darrell W |

The wife and I headed into town to do some shopping and lunch. Decided on inexpensive and Mexican and this restaurant showed up on trip advisor. We were seated right away and the wait staff was great. Food (lunch menu) was inexpensive, filling and quite good. I really liked their chilli relleno. Their salsa was a bit hotter than we were used to but pretty tasty. Not fancy but clean with good food and service!

An Atlanta staple

By Jim K |

Jalisco's in Peachtree Battle Shopping Ctr is like an heirloom for those in Buckhead. We mostly take-out now, but we take-out on many occasions! Always a warm, friendly reception, and great Mexican dishes. If eating in, allow plenty of time because it is always in demand by locals and visitors alike.

Mexican Comfort Food!

By JBT2 |

Really, if you just want good Mexican food at fair prices with good service then go here. It's a multi-generational favorite, young to old. Just look at all the engraved plaques on the walls.

Consistent, Reliable, and Friendly

By Henry Hibbert |

I'm an Atlanta native. I've been eating here since 1978. The key factor over those 40 plus years? Consistent and reliable delicious food. The family run business began with a big, barrel chested man with a large heart and a large smile. He raised fine children, and now they run the place. They are an integral part of Atlanta.

Good Mexican in Peachtree Battle Shopping Center

By tkent1234 |

My wife and I used to eat here years ago when we were first married. Moved away. Happened to be in the neighborhood around dinnertime on a Saturday and stopped in. Glad to see that Jalisco's is still here. Good food and service. The chili rellenos are still great. Gets crowded quickly so go early. Wished that we still lived nearby.

Really Fast!

By lexicsmith3 |

This place is really family friendly and the staff is super fast! We had our food in like 5 minutes and it was really good! I especially LOVED the cheese dip! The only bad part was that it was a little crowded and not the cleanest restaurant ever as well as a little noisy!

Chicken chimichanga!!

By Beth S |

Salsa is excellent!!! I was not overly Impressed with carne asada it was average at best. However my DH got 1 steak / 1 chicken chimichanga, the chicken chimichanga was amazingly outstanding! We would both order chicken again.

Good Mexican Restaurant with Reasonable Prices

By ddmullis |

Excellent food starting with the chips & beef Queso. The chicken enchiladas with rice and beans were excellent. The fajita quesadilla was an excellent choice as well My personal recommendation is to give larger portions of beans. Rice portion was good. Overall an excellent Mexican restaurant

Very good mexican food

By Karen P |

My friend Christy and I stopped here for lunch yesterday after getting our hair done in Buckhead. We had the Chile relleno and beef hard tacos and they were exceptional!

Best Mex food - a standard in Atlanta

By SEAFARER404 |

Always good for Mexican fare. Located in Atlanta's best neighborhood. Has been in same location, with same owners, servers, staff for many years. Quick, attentive service. Good selection of entrees. Main drawback: beer and wine only - no margaritas. Highly recommend.

Love this place!

By Rwarren4577 |

A small local Mexican restaurant that makes you feel at home. It’s loved by the local community and makes good food.

Been around for over 30 years

By beachpeach75 |

I used to go here over 30 years ago when Atlanta did not have very many Mexican restaurants so it was fun to go back. The salsa is very good...little on the spicy side but I like that. I had a bean burrito and it was very good...the food comes out super hot. The service was good, too. It is still a hole in the wall and not very big.

I go about 1-2 times a month

By JBT2 |

I go to Jalisco's when I want cheap Mexican food. Well run operation, always busy, be prepared to wait for a table at peak times. The meal is always tasty, I always leave having consumed way too much. Lunch or dinner is the same, they do have some inexpensive lunch menu items that are a great value. Plenty of parking.

Delicious, fresh Mexican!

By 774Kiera |

We stumbled upon this place during a recent trip to Atlanta. We were not sure what to expect, but this place definitely went beyond any expectation we had. It is fresh, reasonably priced, delicious. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were amazing- it was hard to stop eating them and wait for the main course. Will be returning on future trips to Atlanta! Staff is great too!

Fresh food

By dkw10psu |

Very good food and served fast. Staff were friendly and the place packed. The food was fresh. Nothing negative to say about this place.

Good Neighborhood Mexican

By Jim J |

Jalisco in the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center is a good casual neighborhood Mexican Restaurant. This is a warm, small restaurant with friendly staff and attentive service and good value. Lots of families frequent this restaurant. The menu has all of the usual items including extensive combinations, and the beer is cold offering a list of Mexican and domestic options. The salsa has a little kick. The take out business is popular. Might have to wait a little at peak times.

Good typical Mexican food

By randy g |

This restaurant has been around for a long time. He does typical Mexican food as well as any restaurant in Atlanta. On Friday and Saturday nights you may have to wait.

Great

By Stephen C |

We have been coming here since they opened in 1978. If anything it has gotten better if that could be possible. It's like visiting our old friends. There has been virtually zero turnover in the staff. Kids and grandchildren of the founders are now running place.

Bad beyond belief

By dailychocolate |

Why anyone would wait in line to eat at Jalisco, let alone return after one visit, is beyond me. The restaurant is dirty and noisy, and the staff is unfriendly. The menu is very small and there are no healthy/vegetarian options, so I ordered a salad with grilled shrimp. I asked whether the onions were raw or cooked, the waiter said "cooked", so I did not request that onions be left off. The salad consisted of a large pile of iceberg lettuce with a few spinach leaves (flavorless) on top, a pile of raw onions (!!!), a couple of pieces of red pepper, and four or five small, rubbery, obviously frozen shrimp. The salad dressing was gelatinous and bitter. The whole mess was literally inedible. No one noticed that it was not eaten, there was no offer to make things right, and I can't believe I actually paid for it. As for the "real" food, my husband ordered carnitas and received thin grey slabs of shoe leather. We were in and out in about 20 minutes and were stunned to see people waiting in line. It was the worst dining experience I've had in Atlanta, and I've lived here for over 30 years.

For years a favorite

By HopkinsL |

Every visit to Atlanta starts with a meal at Jalisco's. The food is good and service is quick. They move people in and out pretty fast. The salsa is some of the best.

No flash here.....just solid, downscale neighborhood Mexican with good parking in a safe neighborhood

By SeriousAboutExcellencw |

I recently revisited and remembered why I love this place. Jalisco just keeps going - always crowded, always friendly, always inexpensive, always generous portions, always quick to refill the salsa and iced tea. There is absolutely nothing beautiful about the place (its a storefront in Peachtree Battle Shopping Center); There is nothing gourmet about the place (you won't find cool drinks or flashy specials); and there's nothing particularly to recommend it except - the locals absolutely love it and keep coming back for basic Mexican fare that is just plain good. Good lunch place.

Great Mexican food!

By bhaseagulls |

Jalisco's was the perfect choice for a take out meal for us. The service was quick and the food was delicious. They were doing a brisk business for dining in as well but we needed food to go and it was great. We had a beef burrito with rice & beans and a combo with a taco, enchilada and tostado - all were great. I definitely recommend it.

Absolutely Delicious

By LeeMomof3 |

Jalisco is so incredibly good. My brother and I have come to Atlanta a couple of times recently to prepare my Mom for a move, and we were told to try this place. It is absolutely DELISH. My brother and I both rave over it. And we grew up in Texas so we know good Tex-Mex. This is among the best I had. We wish we could pack up Jalisco and take it back with us!

Still Delicious

By naturelovergal |

I grew up in the Atlanta area- Jalisco was one of my favorite restaurants of my childhood. I now live in another state, but I had the joy of returning to Jalisco today for a business meal. Just as tasty as I remember! Excellent food in a no frills but cozy restaurant.

Not my favorite, no alcohol?????

By M Richard M |

Prices good, portions good, salsa good and hot, not the best I have had, but close by. Need good strong Margarhetis.

Great Food / Low Price / Heart of Atlanta

By Pablo G |

Inside the Peachtree Battle shopping area you can find this jewel of family run restaurant that is well prices, fast and friendly. It sells itself as a Mexican restaurant but truly it is more. Locals stand in line for an hour or more for dinner and somedays at lunch you must find something else. Every time I am in Atlanta I make it a point to visit.

We stop by 3 or 4 times...

By danrmj |

a year when visiting family. This is not for gourmets but the basic Mexican fare, enchiladas, burritos, etc. are all very good. The staff is friendly and the service good. It gets crowded and loud and the prices are family friendly,

Good lunch time spot!

By mattd360i |

Jalisco is an Atlanta institution, serving quick and easy Mexican to the masses since the '70's. The salsa is always fresh and spicy! And the lunch specials are always affordable!

Great little Mexican stop

By Alix Connor |

Unfortunately they do not serve margaritas hence the only reason for a 3 start review. Otherwise, the fajita quesadilla and service was spectacular.

Superb food and service

By bsbar |

In the Peachtree Battle shopping center sets this little gem. The food is served quickly and correctly. If you want it more spicey, they will certainly fix it that way. The chalupas are great along with the enchiladas. The service is excellent. Not going here for lunch would be sad. If you do go for lunch, go around 11:30.

Visit

By Elmer H |

We were visiting in Atlanta and out Granddaughters suggested we go to Jalisco. This is one of their favorite places. Their cheese dip, chips and tacos are very good. I had a combination plate and it was fantastic!

The food was excellent. The salsa was excellent.

By MissyPaige |

I will definitley return to Jalisco. It was very good and very typical of a local family owned Mexican resturant. I thought the salsa was excellent.

Absolute best

By paul d |

Been going to this gem of a restaraunt for more than 20 years and it never disappoints. ‘Hot plate’ is what the water will say every time and it is.

Good food

By Susan G |

Pretty casual and inexpensive. No alcohol but they do offer wine and beer. What no margaritas in a Mexican restaurant? Once you get over that, it’s pleasant and tasty.

Always right on target!

By abzAtlanta |

Great neighborhood quick meal. Always courteous, consistent good food, vibrant and busy! It's worth the wait if you have to wait!

Long time favorite!

By Lizardliz96 |

Have been going to this family owned and operated restaurant for close to 30 years! Great service and food!

Best cheap mex around.

By MlouATL |

Jalisco's is more of a neighborhood mexican restaurant and families have grown up going there. Food and service is always excellent.

Great Neighborhood Mexican

By soitgoes14 |

I tried Jalisco for the first time yesterday and I was happy with it. It is in a busy strip mall that has a large parking lot. You may not be able to get a spot right in front but you have a lot of options. The inside is not huge and I imagine on Friday and Saturday nights there may be a long wait for tables during peak hours. We stopped in shortly after 7pm and it was busy but we were able to get a table right away. They had beer and wine but they did not seem to have liquor so no margaritas. The chips and salsa were ushered out quickly. The salsa was good and seemed to have a little spice to it. The chips were warm and a little thicker than many restaurants which I liked. We were off to a good start! I ordered the three soft tacos which they allow you to mix your meat order so I got two chicken and one beef. My fiancé ordered the combination with two enchiladas (one chicken one cheese) and a hard shell taco (beef). While we waited for this to arrive we ordered cheese dip which came out piping hot. The cheese dip though not revolutionary was good stuff! As for the meals my three tacos were huge! Probably too much for me but I suffered through and enjoyed them all. The chicken was clearly better than the beef. I’m not sure if it was just a bad night for the beef but we both agreed it was blander. The shredded chicken on the other hand had great flavor. The enchilada sauce was a little different than we expected not bad though. All in all, the food was what you expect from your average Mexican restaurant. Just don’t expect any of the meat choices you get at some of the more authentic Mexican restaurants. The service was solid throughout. It wasn’t exceptional but I never felt like we were being ignored. This seems like great neighborhood Mexican spot. Not destination worthy but I can see why it has been a fixture in this area for so long. The next time I’m in the area craving Mexican I would be happy to go back by.

Real Mexican restaurant

By SCR1964 |

If you look for a Mexican restaurant in the Buckhead area, go to Jalisco. A favorite among the locals! They serve true Mexican food.

an institution

By eyecandeebaby |

this is midtowns finest mexican institution. cheap, friendly, and unashamedly generous portions, love it!

South Buckhead Staple

By Cheryl G |

Better than average Mexican food in Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, but crowded early evening when everybody brings their little children for early dinner. Service is quick and friendly. Prices are great. Just be prepared for lots of commotion and crying! Or come after 7 when the kiddies have gone home to do homework. A Buckhead staple for 30 years!

Hit the spot

By William T |

I was craving some Mexican food after staying late at work, but none of my usual favorites appealed to me and none were close by. That’s when I thought of Jalisco, a Peachtree Battle mainstay. It had been years since I dined there and my memories were of so-so food. I’m happy to report they’ve held up well and the food was better than I remembered. I started with cheese dip along with jalapenos on the side. I’m not sure if they have a special source for cheese, but it was some of the best cheese dip I’ve ever had. My entrée was a combination plate, ubiquitous to Mexican restaurants everywhere. Mine consisted of two enchiladas and a taco, along with Mexican rice. All items are made with beef unless requested otherwise, an option I exercised with my enchiladas. The food arrived quickly, was perfectly warmed and tasted great. I was ravenous after working late and scarfed it down. Service wasn’t especially friendly and seemed geared to quickly turning tables, but my needs were taken care of. I’d forgotten about Jalisco, but will definitely add it to my repertoire of Mexican restaurants.

We miss it

By JohnRAtlanta |

During 13 years based in Atlanta, Jalisco was our go-to Mexican restaurant and it never failed us in terms of food, value, service or friendly welcome. The people who operate this little oasis in Buckhead know how to maintain consistency in all aspects of running a neighborhood restaurant, satisfy their customers -- and keep them coming back for generations. Regrettably we have yet to find a replacement for Jalisco since moving from Atlanta.

A Buckhead Classic and Family Favorite Since 1978

By fyrewede2 |

The first burrito I ever had in my life was at this wonderful family-owned restaurant. It was 1978. I was 13 years old, and the excellence of the food and warm friendliness of the service has not changed in nearly 40 years. The first thing you will notice is the sunny, cheerful decor -- on every wall there is a colorful plate, a painting, or a wooden object from Mexico. The salsa is fresh and packs a spicy bite. The chips are always hot right out of the fryer. The selection of Mexican beer is good, and the menu options are excellent. There is little in this world better than a bowl of their homemade chicken vegetable soup on a cold winter evening -- full of chunks of fresh avocado and shredded chicken breast meat, it is one of the items I order with regularity because it is so consistently good, especially with an extra squeeze of lime and a sprinkling of fresh cilantro, which they will happily provide if you ask. It's clear that this family loves and takes great pride in their restaurant and we hope to keep coming back for many decades to come.

Crowded for a reason

By Mike T |

First time visit. Close quarters, really quick service. Couldn't eat the salsa- all we got was hot and cilantro. Everything else was delicious, made with care and layers of flavors. Chicken enchilada was awesome.

True Tex Mex!!

By MLPerry383 |

Ok, to start, I grew up 70 miles north of the Mexican border, in deep South Texas. So, I truly know what genuine Tex Mex food is supposed to taste like. However, 25 years in Georgia has left me generally unsatisfied. Until a good friend introduced me to Jalisco!! This is as close to genuine Tex Mex food as you are going to find in Atlanta - and it is located right in the middle of Buckhead!! It is basic simple fare, but absolutely delicious. The prices are very low - especially for Buckhead. Nothing fancy here. Just excellent food served very quickly. Come early for lunch or you won't get a table! Basically, I can't give this place enough thumbs up!!

Excellent Mexican food

By Fefe2044 |

The taste of the food was fresh, and delicious. The service was good as well. Enough seating for large groups. Ask for the carnitas and tortillas.

Average, not exciting but very affordable

By mark07871 |

We are visiting Atlanta and went for dinner because of the reviews. The food was fine and the decor seemed a bit dated. Service was very quick. Next time we will try some place different.

Food and Service are Always Excellent

By ClevePhil |

This is the most consistently good Mexican restaurant in the area. The food is always well-prepared, fresh, and hot. The staff is kind and helpful and we have always found the wait staff to be more than pleasant. We have been eating there for years and the same high quality has been maintained.

Many already know, for those that don't - read up

By Daniel B |

I want to keep this short, but this restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Fast, seriously professional service, great food, and killer tees. In short, this place rips!

Wonderful

By Stork5 |

We drove right by at first, because it's in a strip mall and isn't on the main sign. This place was delicious, and my husbands from Texas. (So according to him, he knows! Haha) We went early, so didn't have to wait. The place got full quick. Mainly families. The staff was great. & they had a sopapillas. (Um I misspelled that, but they are delicious.)

Best Family Mexican in Buckhead

By traveler_GA21 |

Jalisco's is one of Atlanta's best family restaurants. Great service and good food. It is always fun to sit at a new table to read the wall plates to see who has eaten there and their reason to celebrate. Try the cheese dip, you will love it. ' Side tip - leave room for a scoop of ice cream from Baskin Robbins next door.

Great burritos and enchiladas!

By kurokitty |

We were shopping in the center and wanted to find a good place to eat lunch. I looked on the TripAdvisor app and we decided on this restaurant. It has a really nice family feel to it and the staff was friendly. We ordered our food and it came out pretty quickly. I had the Speedy Gonzalez special -- a taco and enchilada with a choice of rice or beans. My wife had the burrito lunch, which she enjoyed. And our little one devoured his taco kids meal -- I could see why, since the soft taco was filled with his favorites -- beans and cheese! This is definitely a place we will return to in the future!

Great Mexican

By michaelsullivan101 |

Awesome family restaurant with wonderful options. Fresh chips and salsa. Love the taco salad at lunch.

A neighborhood icon

By AliciaFlorida15 |

We've been frequent visitors to Jalisco for many, many years. And we never go without running into friends. Our children grew up here ~ as babies, then after baseball practice as youngsters, teenagers and now as adults. The food is consistently pretty good Tex-Mex and the service is mostly consistent and fast. We love their salsa but wish they would make their own guacamole. I do wonder about the sign shown here on Trip Advisor as that is NOT the front of the Jalisco at Peachtree Battle and never has been!

Good Food and Good Prices

By ttbryan1 |

I live nearby and ventured into this place. This is a "hole-in-the-wall" type places that has very good food and is extremely affordable. It can be very busy on the weekends, but the tables turn over quick. It is your typical mexican food, but everything is good. It is very loud and busy, so probably not a good date place. It is a good place if you want some good, sit-down mexican food in a hurry.

Best Salsa, Family Atmosphere

By ReddiTugo |

Arrive just before 6PM to avoid long wait. Popular place with the locals. Less ninos after 8PM. Chips, cheese dip and salsa superb. Salsa made fresh daily. Recommend #1 & 11, chicken soup and the Mexican stew. Jaimie and Rosanne are the friendly evening hosts. Get a booth and enjoy a Great meal. Desert, Baskin Robbins is right next door!

Family Friendly-Worth the Wait

By Laurie G |

We've been dining at Jalisco since the early 90s. It's been in business since 1978 and there's a good reason for that. The salsa is perfectly hot-spicy and the food is outstanding. There is usually a wait for a table but it moves quickly. There is no patio, but after dinner, you can head next door to the Baskin-Robins for a cool down/sweet treat to offset the spiciness. The staff at Jalisco is friendly and efficient and on the first name basis of many, many of their loyal customers. The only downside is they don't have a liquor license so you have to settle for wine or XX, Sol or domestic beer. So, if you have to have a Margarita with your Mexican food, then you'll have to go somewhere else. Personally, the quality of the food makes skipping the Margarita perfectly acceptable.

Love this place. But can't give it a 5.

By chefluee |

We don't go to Jalisco's but four or so times a year. And really like it. It is always slammed. Go early, go late. We normally order about the same things....cheese enchilada, crispy beef taco, chili rellenos, been and cheese burrito, etc. The service is always great. Sometimes there is a bit of a language barrier but that makes it that much better. As you sit here come the salsa. It is always quite hot and addictive. I can eat it by the spoon full and just sit and talk about how hot it is. The prices of the food are extremely reasonable especially being in the heart of Buckhead. Think it's been around from right at 40 years...and for a reason. It's consistent. Highly recommend. Will definitely return. Just love this place.
