From the outside looking in......not much to look at BUT if you choose to adventure inside.....your taste buds will love you forever!!

Expect to wait (sign in and wait to be called) as this place is very popular. Really good breakfast menu and drinks (mimosas are good). Service can be a little slow when full but definitely a place to try. On-street parking can be tiresome (we lucked into a place right outside the front door).

I've never seen a restaurant with a play ground for toddlers and engaged parent other than McDonalds. My guest and I split the whole wheat pumpkin pancakes and added a side of scrambled eggs and spicy sausage. We left very satisfied and ready to bike the remainder of the morning.

I visited Portland this May and this was my favourite spot to eat. The choice is excellent, especially for vegetarians and vegans. I had a build your own hash browns, which were incredibly delicious, cooked to perfection. Coffee is fantastic and the selection of mimosas and bloody Mary's are great too. Very good for families with seating close to a play area to keep little ones entertained. I can't recommend it enough! A highlight of my trip.

This is the best breakfast I have had in Portland. Super coffee as a starter. I had the Cheech and Chong scramble and it was delicious. The funky ambiance is very Portland. The English muffin and my husbands biscuit were fine but nothing special. Overall, this exceeded my experience at numerous other Portland restaurants.

After eating recently at 2 other Portland breakfast notables, the "evergreen biscuit" place and the "door" place (no need to drop names without a review!), I thought I would compare. Kudos for the great children's play area, music loud enough to drown out the kiddos. Service was slow getting started, but very helpful and I didn't find them at all slow by fresh food standards. Some reviewers evidently would rather have a McMuffin quick. The menu is fun, but as I am NOT a vegan, I had to select carefully to get my meat fix. My wife and I split some sweet (Chai Pancake, Grand Marnier French Toast) and the acclaimed corned beef hash. The Chai pancake was good enough, but too delicate flavored for the so-so maple syrup or the pretty darned good jam on the table. The GMFT was - well, not as "grand" as the name. MAYBE a hint of orange flavor - perhaps adding some orange zest might have helped? Good, would have again, but not spectacular. The corned beef that people rave about? I would not have again. The presentation was less hash than layers. A ton of ok hash browns with small amount of peppers mixed in on top of a few hunks of very average and stringy corned beef. I love corned beef, and cook briskets all the time, so I was expecting greatness. Meh, as they say. I did not taste the robust flavors from the spices I usually get with a brined brisket - just a saltiness really. And not tender at all. Alton Brown's recipe is at least as good. And the horseradish "sauce" was inconsistent - 1 bite over-powering, then dry hash browns with no flavor. Hard to say this was classic corned beef hash. Maybe it was a bad day... The Bram Stoker Bloody Mary was like drinking a glass of sriracha - I'm not sure there was any vodka, or cilantro - just sriracha. My wife's Pink Grapefruit-Lavender Mimosa was stellar - great flavor, not too floral - I wished I had got that. I apparently am not "man" enough to drink the sriracha potion. Maybe I should have downed a few ghost peppers first. Our friends had a huge bowl of granola (gluten free) and fruit and a biscuit sandwich. The biscuit was TINY compared to the other portions, but the granola was excellent and almost too much to eat for one. The kids meals were excellent as well. Overall, I had no problem with the service - you have to wait at all popular restaurants. They were courteous, and friendly. The food choices WE made were - well some unspectacular, some decent, and some "never again." Maybe it was just bad luck, but nothing here can be compared to, say, shrimp and grits at another local place I ate 2 days ago. Final verdict - fun atmosphere, long wait, interesting but inconsistent food, be careful of vampire drinks if you don't like heartburn!

We loved Jam on Hawthorne! Worth the wait. The food was excellent, the raspberry jam was the best ever. We’ll definitely be back!

Waited one hour to get in to Jam after reading lots of rave reviews on Tripadvisor and Yelp. It was a nice day, so we walked around the neighborhood for a bit before sitting down and waiting outside. Now, maybe I think that Jam is just average because I've seen the gimmick before, the classic hipster breakfast spot, or perhaps its because less than 24 hours before I had the best breakfast ever at Midpoint, after walking in and selecting my table on a Saturday morning. Regardless this hour long wait on a Sunday morning for good, but not GREAT food didn't leave me feeling like Jam was anything special. I will say that it is beautifully decorated, and all of the waitstaff was attentive and nice. My food was well made, presented, and tasty. I just didn't think that it's fantastic.

We do always have to stand in line here and it is always worth it. Great food, service is good, they even have a play area for kids.

Jam was recommended by my Sister and brother in law and it did not disappoint! We were seated quickly, service was wonderful, and the food was delicious. High quality, fresh, and local ingredients for unique dishes at affordable prices.

This is a wonderful breakfast spot for families in the Buckman neighborhood with a full bar at one end and a play area wirh toys at the other. The scrambles were imaginative as were the pancakes...lemon ricotta or pineapple upside down with coconut cinnamon spread. Bennies with a Pacific northwest flair..smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon. It also opens at 7:30a.m 😉

Eclectic people watching. Wonderful breakfasts (try one of their scrambles) and the best orange juice (freshly squeezed). A very popular place, lines outside at popular times but line moves fast and coffee while you wait.

Very popular place - you will very likely have to wait for a seat. But your wait will be rewarded because the breakfast and drinks were terrific. I started with a drink special called (I think) a Pear Toddy (think Hot Toddy with Pear Vodka). My entree was Grand Marnier French Toast. The coffee was excellent as well. Portland is apparently known for doing brunch right, and you can't go wrong having it at Jam on Hawthorne.

My mom and sisters and I (all over the age of 45) were walking down Hawthorne heading downtown when we happened upon Jam, and we decided to try it for breakfast. This was early on a Saturday morning, and there weren't too many people waiting for tables. We noted that we had to sign ourselves in for a table, so we did so and sat to wait. After only about 5 minutes, we were seated. Our server was friendly and helpful with menu questions. She did not rush us at all, although the place was clearly busy, and we weren't her only table. I ordered "Ed's Plate", which was a scramble with fresh spinach, mushrooms, garlic and cheese. It was absolutely delicious, and very fresh. One thing I *loved* about this menu was that you could order small portions of big items, so I added a single Oatmeal Chai Blueberry pancake to my meal, because I felt the need for some sweet with my eggs. This was both a good and a bad move. The pancake was delicious, but it was also HUGE! I ended up not being able to finish it, but not from a lack of trying! The other things that were ordered at our table were: Grand Marnier French Toast (very tasty, but lacking in the "Grand Marnier" expected flavoring--no orange flavor to speak of), more Chai pancakes (yum), and the Maddie Cakes, which were delightful (lemon ricotta pancakes with a warm blueberry compote). Everyone was more than satisfied, although the coffee drinkers were less than excited about the coffee. One other note: try the jam on the table top. I put it onto my pancake, and it was fabulous...better than the syrup! The atmosphere at Jam is fun, airy, and funky. It was busy and somewhat loud, but not obnoxiously so. When we left (around 10am or so), the waiting area was full, and there were over a dozen people waiting outside for tables. It was a beautiful day, so no big deal, and no one seemed ruffled, but my final advice: go early!

There were 11 of us! Patrick our server was amazing and patient. Lots of food options, vegan and gluten free. Which we didn't need but good to know. The food was really good and the space is very nice. Not a bad thing to say about this place.

5 stars for the play area for kids in a sit down restaurant. 3 stars for the food, generally. Nothing particularly remarkable. Had the Maddie cakes which were good, but not top of the line, like Original Pancake House. Staff was nice.

A great space and great menu but when my corned beef hash arrived which is usually my breakfast of choice, I was disappointed. I found the hash undercooked - probably because there was so much potato to cook and I wasn't a fan of the peppers and onions in it either. The portions are also huge so you'd have to be really hungry to even make a dent on your plate! It was nice to see that they catered for kids as had a play area and also displayed local artists work. We bought a small print to remind us of our trip but not the hash!

Be prepared to wait a while to get seated, unless you don’t mind sitting at the bar. I always opt for the bar because there is no wait to be seated, usually, and better service since the bartender is always there. I’d recommend one of their hash plates. Huge portions. Any of the hash plates on the menu could easily be split into to two servings. Don’t forget to try their own “jam” on your toast. Best brunch cocktails around! Come hungry and thirsty! Leave full and splendid.

I've only been there once and it was great! I live far away so going often isn't easy. lol not much to say and it seemed average in decor but sweet staff, place place.

Delicious brunch. Vegan options. Really liked the outdoor patio and vibe of the restaurant. Food portions were large and filling.

Quintessential Portland. We were in town visiting our resident kids and our first stop here was the morning after a full day touring around Hood River and the river sights. This place was within walking distance of where our kids live, and we joined a number of locals to wait for a table. It was instant love that they had a self-serve coffee urn on the sidewalk. The wait was less time than we expected as turnover is reasonable brisk at this spot. Service was efficient and delivery of food equally so, but its a comfortable kind of a hole in the wall place with no attitude. Whatever you get, have hash browns on it. Crunchy, soft in the middle, and abundant, and everything else on the plate will benefit from being mixed in. Ask for the Aardvark sauce, so hoarded locally that they have to keep track of it being swiped. One visit wasn't enough, so we were back two days later before we had to depart for home near Seattle. Full dose of simple caffeine, more hash browns, a last blast of the Aardvark sauce, and two visits worth of great Portland people watching. Price is right and the people show is free.

JAM the perfect name, and the soda biscuits are the perfect vehicle to get the jam into your mouth. Will definitely visit next time we are in Portland

This place was good. The Maddie lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote were decadent. So, so good. The loaded hashbrowns were great and the Ed’s scramble was delicious. My only complaint is the gravy could have more flavor.

We went for a birthday brunch as we have a few times before. We waited outside for about 20 minutes and were then seated in the main room that was at near capacity. The sound/noise from the crowd, the wait staff, and music was at what must have been a dangerous decibel level. It was completely overwhelming and painful. We asked if we could get our food to-go or take our food to the tables outside--if the answer had been no, we would have had to leave. But we were able to place our order, pay, and then wait outside. The food arrived in take out containers, it was very hot and very good. We managed to eat it between rain showers which was a plus, but not ideal. (It should be noted that while waiting in line we heard customers coming out remarking that it was way too noisy inside. They were right.)

All the delicious herbs and spices took over my senses and sent me down memory lane when I walked they the door. Eclectic crowd, great farm to table food, nice portions make for a great stop if you're in his neck of the woods doe Portland. Pancakes rock with their toppings!

The 30 min wait did not deter us on a late weekday morning between Christmas and New Years because of the excellent TripAdvisor reviews. The mood was jolly and fragrances from the kitchen delightful. Staff was very friendly and accommodating the crowd while waiting and while seated for ordering. The ambiance of the place is “funky”, meaning cement floors, marginal art (local?) displayed, sometimes crookedly, on walls with a few exceptions, wait folks not dressed for success. It is a noisy place but you can still carry on a conversation. Our order included Eggs Benedict ~ Florentine, BYO Scramble w/caramelized onions and spinach, a biscuit substituted for toast. A pretty solid B for food. English muffins were not toasted well for the Benedict and entire dish was rather bland. Scramble was not exceptional, onions soggy or maybe egg should have been scrambled a few more minutes. Biscuit was delicious, enjoyed with their homemade jam, looked like different flavors on each table. We had the orange version. The sizable serving of hash browns was terrible, tasted a bit off. I recommend that you omit them from your order. Now that I read more of the Trip Advisor reviews, I see others also mention the hash browns as being subpar. Maybe we should have ordered one of the daily specials, they did sound interesting and flavorful. We were served the wrong scramble order initially but was corrected quickly. I don’t understand the 4.5 score for food reviews, we did enjoyed the atmosphere but can’t say it is for everyone. There must be equally good or better breakfast places in Portland? We will not return on our next visit to Portland.

We had our first breakfast dining experience here while visiting family for Thanksgiving. Fortunately we had a very short wait. Our server didn’t acknowledge us for at least 10 minutes. When she finally took the orders for the 6 of us, she did not write them down. We thought she must have a great memory! Well, she came back twice to clarify and still got my husband’s order not quite right. The food was delicious, however, with generous portions which is why I gave it 4 stars.

We had a great breakfast at Jam, and especially enjoyed the bloody mary. The food is tasty and well presented and the atmosphere is fun and funky, just like Portland. Local artists have paintings for sale on the walls, which is cool. We'll definitely eat again at Jam!

This is a very busy restaurant. The menu is extensive with a good selection of breakfast, brunch options. There seems to be always a line up to get in, wait time is about 30 to 45 minutes. Service was very good, food came quickly and was hot. Portions a very large so come with a good appetite. Medium price range for this type of restaurant. Recommend as long as you don't mind waiting for a table.

To be honest, I am not one to wait much of anywhere for trendy food, let alone breakfast/brunch, but fortunately one of our group got there early and we breezed right in. There was quite the line as we went in though. It's loud, but the food really is excellent. I had the meathead omelette, and it was awesome! If I didn't have to deal with the crowds, I'd definitely eat here again.

We had to wait for about a half hour but it was SO worth it! I had the pear jam mimosa, biscuits & gravy made with vegetarian sausage, side of hashbrowns & a maddie cake (lemon ricotta pancake); all were divine & I ate until it hurt, then ate some more! Our server was lovely & helpful. There are a LOT of choices for breakfast in Portland; this was a really, really good choice & I can't wait to go back!

It's often hard to find a restaurant where everyone can find something yummy. We were super happy with all the vegan and vegetarian options, allowing all of us to share a great meal. The vegetable hash and smoked salmon hash were both standouts. Luckily we were there on a weekday, so the wait wasn't long. We enjoyed our meal. Conversation wasn't as easy since the room is large and open. We would definitely be interested in returning with more family in the future.

We were visiting our daughter, who loves Jam. Our breakfasts were amazing, but her Salmon Benedict was by far the best salmon we have had in a long time. Just salty enough to make the meal. Service was quick and friendly; a perfect place to step into out of the rain.

Always fantastic food and friendly service. The atmosphere is "portlandy" for sure. You can get a million different drinks including specialty teas ,coffees and adult beverages. The variety of bloodys and mimosas alone is unbelievable. But the food is incredible the vegan fare and tofu scrambles are out of this world. Great mix for families that have vegan or vegetarians as well as meat lovers. My go to is the eggs Benedict with ham , I can still taste the sauce is homemade with clarified butter and is the best I've ever had. The lemon ricotta and chi pancakes are fabulous also. Hash browns are perfect and serving size is more than you can eat. You will have a wait on sat or sun but well worth it. Just do it and thank me later.

Since you can't make a reservation, you have to be patient to get a table. At least you can have a coffee at the street vendor. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired and the atmosphere is truly American.

Great meal, as always. Pancakes are always good. Had the loaded bowl and added spinach it was great! We were a large party and everything was good.

Jam on Hawthorne has quite a selection for your brunch loving heart. With its art on the walls, large potted plants and it’s unique layout, the place has a cool vibe. The servers are quite unique and usually full of dry humor and provide great service.

Auntie and I came here for brunch for the first time on a Thursday. Thankfully, the wait was only about 30 minutes as opposed to the hour plus wait on weekends. Service was excellent. I have found that most places with that long of a wait in Portland equates to poor/grumpy service, but that was not the case here. Super friendly servers that were attentive without being overbearing. As is par for the course in SE Portland, there were many vegetarian and vegan options available on the menu. Disclaimer: I'm the kind of carnivore that likes his steak rare - basically just walk the cow past a warm oven on the way to my plate. HOWEVER, I did find my vegetarian breakfast enjoyable. I opted for the scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and vegetarian sausage and vegetarian gravy over a biscuit. The biscuit was just a tad dry, and the food was underseasoned, but nothing that wasn't fixed with a couple shakes of the salt shaker. We also split the lemon ricotta pancakes...the lemon wasn't pronounced, but it was still decent. Food was 3.5 stars, service was 4.5. I give this place a thumbs up for a weekday stop.

A MUST place for breakfast while in Portland Oregon !! Great atmosphere and amazing food !!!! Portland’s Best !!

Ate breakfast here on a Sunday morning. If you don't arrive when they open, be prepared to wait! Very popular. Had the Cheech and Chong breakfast plate which was all vegetarian and delicious. Vegetarian chorizo and wonderful spices. served with a huge portion of hash browns and toast. I couldn't eat it all.

This is a great place for breakfast or brunch and worth any time you have to wait in line. The service is friendly, professional and attentive. They have a great selection of menu items and everything is fresh and delicious. Completely satisfied every time we visit!

All around fantastic meal. Went for breakfast with my vegan daughter and very not vegan husband. Had the best meal of our trip all fresh local ingredients, and great service. The blueberry chi pancakes were awesome. Servings size was abundant. Will definitely return.

Jam on Hawthorne is a relaxed breakfast/brunch place. The portions are big and the food is good and fresh. There is a small play area for younger kids. Our 3 year old has plenty to do in the play area our 6 year old is a bit too old for the toys they have, but still plays with the occasional transformer that he can find in the baskets. The kids' menu offers different choices than a regular kids menu, but there should be something for all kids on the menu. The only minus is that there is usually a loooong wait for a table (at least Saturday/Sunday). We have usually waited between 1-1,5h for a table. It's a little bit less busy after 1pm, but there will still be a considerable wait. It can get boring for the little ones (and the big ones as well). They serve coffee out on the sidewalk and there are some tables, but there is nothing to do for little ones while waiting. (Reservations are not possible)

The GF waffles are fantastic! Also enjoyed their breakfast scrambles and breakfast sandwiches which can be made GF.

Had a coffee and the Grand Mariner French Toast, came with strawberries and homemade blueberry drizzle. And honestly, it might be the best french toast I've ever had. We got there early, and there was no wait! It moonlights as an arthouse, really cool to see local artist's work.

Brunch is absolutely delicious. They also offer several flavors of mimosas and other tasty drinks. Very busy but worth the wait. They get people in and out quickly without making you feel rushed.

We arrived for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. (they open at 7:30 a.m.) and didn't have to wait ... on a Friday. By 10:00 a.m., there were enough people waiting to fill an entirely new restaurant. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Basic decor, service and food ... and not that impressive prices!?! I've come here several times in the past over the years ... and today, it was so noisy I found it difficult to carry on a conversation. If you have hearing issues, beware!

A pleasant ambiance is created in the large room filled with breakfast and brunch diners. Our party of five vegetarians, vegans, non- gluten eaters, and non dairy folks found the menu fascinating. Jam on Hawthorne accommodated all of us. Between the toast, the eggs, rancheros, the tofu, the pancakes, the coffee , chai teas and oat milk everyone in our party was happy and well filled breakfast goodies! Jam on Hawthorne got everyone’s positive thumbs up- Thank You!!

We have friends we go to brunch with and I useally pick a different restaurant every time, but some are our favorites and we find ourselves going back and this is now added to that going back list. Besides organic, gluten free they also have vegetarian items on the menu and that’s what our friends wanted, they were very happy? I LOVED the fact, that I could build my own omelette, so I had ordered a caramelized onion, Swiss cheese, bacon and avocado omelette , so good . Usual I ask for a subtitue for the potatoes, but here they tak off $3.00 or something like that off your bill, so I just had dry English muffin with my omelet and that was more than plenty, asked for a container to go, for my leftovers. TIP, after putting our name on the list, we walked across the street to, The Grand Central Bakery for some coffee and talked for about an hour then walked back just in Time, we were the very next party of 4to be seethed, did we time that right or where 😃.

Lots of vegetarian options on the menu, great food, mediocre service. Coffee available outside while you wait ($2). Excellent breakfast oriented cocktails. I had the vegetarian biscuits and gravy. Excellent.

And one of our party had a great grilled cheese sandwich that was large enough to satisfy most eaters and could easily be split between two less hungry diners. The eggs were fine, but unfortunately the hash browns tasted of too much cooking oil. The service was fine, the wait was not too long at 11:30 am on a Monday. The environment is more a garage or warehouse, so no need to dress up for this one.

This spot was hopping. I got one if their wraps, and a glass if whiskey.. for breakfast. Its amazing there! No breakfast bars out on the east coast where i live. The service was great, food was great and it was clean in there. I imagine it can get tough to find parking around but its worth figuring it out! Definitely stop in and check it out.

Treat yourself to this restaurant! Large portions, great food, good coffee! We liked it so much we went twice on our recent visit to Portland.

Looked up on TA. Delicious breakfast, especially liked their vegan sausage gravy. Wished we had discovered this place sooner!

We went there on Saturday, and had to wait a little over an hour to be seated. But no problem, we were with good friends that we hadn't seen for a while, so got our name on the list, found out how long it would be, and went accross the street to the Grand Central Bakery for coffee and good conversation. Once seated the food was phenomenal. I had the build your own scramble plus one manacake (hot cake). The build your own scramble worked really well for me as I was able to choose from a long list of ingredients to add. I was impressed how much wild salmon they added. And the mimosas were really good and large with lots of flavors to choose from. Everyone with our party was really happy with the food and will come back. They had great vegetarian options too which made one of our party happy.

My husband and I walked here from our Airbnb for breakfast and it was absolutely amazing. I had the Maddie Cakes and her got the Nor-western and we both shared our plates. We could’ve ordered it again and again. We definitely will make this a go to place to eat for future trips!

Went on a Saturday morning about 8:30 and there was a 20 minute wait. The food was amazing! We had a breakfast sandwich and eggs benny both with hash browns. Service was great! Would definitely recommend!

Just after we sat down, the lineup started The wait staff is friendly and professional. The bottomless coffee is appreciated. We were both impressed by our hearty breakfasts. A wonderful, vibrant atmosphere.

This is a fun, vibrant, bustling spot for brunch. With the extensive breakfast menu there's plenty of temptations. They also feature a small lunch menu, in addition to a children's menu. It was busy when we arrived about 1:30 on Saturday, but with a party of two we were able to be seated within about 20 minutes. We started off with the scratch-made biscuit and their namesake jam - delicious. Followed by the main attraction, Pork Huevos Rancheros. Each layer was full of flavor. Really nice plating as well. This hit the spot on a gray Portland day. Jam on Hawthorne has an indoor kid's play area. The wait staff was very attentive. We enjoyed our visit and will go back!

Large plates of yummy food with tons of choices. I wouldn't recommend this if you are on a diet. Bloody Mary's are tasty too if that's your choice. I was most impressed on how they handle their traffic. Even when packed the service was excellent and the wait was reasonable

We went on a Friday morning before going to the zoo and were seated within moments of arrival. My husband got the “Bizness” and thought it was phenomenal. My poached eggs were velvety and the best I have found at a restaurant in a long time. We split an order of the French toast and it was pretty standard, delicious but not memorable.

Waiting an hour for a table of three on a Sunday was all worth the wait! Coffee is supplied outside. Bathrooms are easily accessible. Bathrooms are very clean! We were happy to wait for our table inside where it was warmer than outside. The staff is extremely nice! The bar is first come first serve seating. While waiting for a table, the bar serves drinks as well! The food is large in portions and very fulfilling! The food was excellent as each of our party got something different. The price is perfect for the great amount of food served. Parking is free on the side streets off Hawthorne.

Warm and welcoming with great pastries and bread and coffee. No nonsense and good value. All round good choice.

This was two blocks from where we were staying at an AirBNB, so it was a no-brainer the first morning. Great coffee, and that helped wash down the HUGE oatmeal chai blueberry pancakes - we split two big ones. You can put butter, jam (on the table) or syrup - all great. This will stay with you all morning!

We ate here while vacationing in Portland. It is a great breakfast place. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The food was delicious. They had jelly in a squeeze bottle on the table which my children enjoyed putting on everything. It was really tasty. The waitress was wonderful. She refilled our coffee cups without us waiting and checked on us several times. She was also very friendly. It was a very popular place so on the weekend be prepared for a little wait. But it is well worth the wait.

When in Portland it is one of the must places for me to grab breakfast! Lots of choices, fresh ingredients and some unique entrees!

We went right at 730 on a Sunday morning expecting this place to get busy. By the time we left around 9am there was a wait outside, though unclear how fast the table turnover is. The ambience is great - local artists have their work featured, there is a confined play area for kids, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The real star, as one may expect from their name, are their sweet delicacies. The lemon ricotta pancakes with warm blueberry compote was a winner, even without the tasty Vermont-imported maple syrup that came on the side. The scramble was very clean; it's not your greasy diner special. The hashbrowns were generous in portion but a little under-salted on it's own. Mixing it with the cheese from the scramble, though, made it all better. The star of that dish was a buttery biscuit (50cent upcharge to replace the toast) that you could lather in their housemade jam, which was a superb combination of tart and sweet. We had a great meal with plenty of leftovers, but would not wait hours in line.

We had the fortune of staying within 4 blocks of this breakfast gem. I started off my meal with fabulous Portland made coffee that the offer while you are waiting (there is an inevitable wait for a table). For the second act, I indulged in a delicious mango mimosa in a very large glass :). The three of us had delicious, breakfasts ranging from build your own scrambled eggs to grilled cheese and hash browns. The food was great, the atmosphere was eclectic, friendly and artsy and the price was right. We all ate well and I drank for under $30. The only thing that could've been improved was initial service. Once our server got to us she was fabulous but it took a while for her to get there.

My mouth is so happy! The Hammer Scramble is absolutely delicious. The portions are shareable, if you choose. Staff super friendly. Would definitely visit again!

We went with a fairly large group and it was only a little wait on Saturday morning but they had a coffee station so the wait was easy :) we has vegans and non vegans in our group. We all were extremely happy with our meals... The Beardo (vegan) is so hearty and scrumptios. Also the vegan chai blueberry pancakes were filling and uniquely delicious. Our server was perfect and helpful. I love this restsurant!

I went based on the positive reviews with visiting guest and for my 7 years olds birthday. We went on a weekday morning and waited 45 minutes, it was really packed, which looks like a good thing to me. We were given a table next to children play area. The play area was a nice touch for sure. I was excited about the food, which took quite a while to come out once ordered. We ordered one alcoholic beverage and coffees and it was sent out unevenly as did the plates. They forgot condiments like butter for toast and it was hard to get the servers attention when wanted. The servers were very nice just scattered and we had three different servers. So on to the food the most important part: We ordered, eggs benedict, omelette, kids pancakes, and corned beef hash. I tried all plates and was not impressed, for the price they charge per plate I could have eaten at a cheap diner and enjoyed that. My corned beef look like dog food and wasn't pretty. Eggs were over cooked, Benedict was plated sloppy, and pancakes were soggy. It was not amazing or any better than IHOP but IHOP plates way better. The portions are a good size. To be honest I won't be back and don't see the big deal about this place.

Great breakfast in SE Portland! This was our first breakfast experience in Portland, and we were a bit put off by the wait - but it was worth it! If someone in your party is able to get there a little earlier and add your name to the list it will help, and also note that this is a large restaurant with lots of tables so the turnaround is quick. They have some seating outside for those who wait. They offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. They also have a children's play area and a great kids menu that makes this restaurant very kid friendly. If you'd rather not be near that area, you can request a table in the bar area. We loved the open space and interesting decor (artwork on the walls is for sale). The food: I had the Grand Marnier dipped Challah french toast served with marionberry puree, sliced strawberries and maple syrup. My husband had the smoked salmon hash with eggs - everything was amazing. I especially loved the hash browns - they aren't the chopped up type. They're made with grated potato and cooked to a light brown crispy perfection!

Omg I would eat here every day of calories were no object. The wait is long but it's worth it. Food comes out pretty fast even though it's a really busy place. Service is friendly and the food is amazing.

A bit of a wait but so worth it! Family of four all loved it. Multiple wait staff for each table ensured never an empty coffee. Food was delicious!

We enjoyed a great brunch in this restaurant. Street parking was easily accessible. Even at 2pm on a Saturday, there was a wait. Fortunately, we were able to find seating at the bar. There are many egg dishes and other tasty brunch foods. The jam is tasty as expected. Yes!

This is a very popular place and lineups can get long but it's worth the wait. The staff gets you in as quick as they can. You can get a coffee or drink while you wait for a table. Great selection of breakfast/brunch foods. Portions are big and tasty. I will be back.

Arriving at 10:15, we waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2 on a Friday morning. But there was self serve coffee on the sidewalk. Scrambled eggs were cooked a little too hard for our taste, but the Swiss cheese, bacon and carmelized onion fillings were excellent. English muffins came well toasted as requested - but only on one side!?! I wonder how they do their regular toast. Also, we prefer our hash browns crispier than these were. The blueberry compote on the delicious pancake was the best thing we got. But strangely for a restaurant named Jam, no jams were offered or appeared on the tables. What up with that!?

Best breakfast in Portland!! Ordered Two Egg Breakfast x 3 (take out) and it was very good and filling! 20 min pick up time and it was ready to be devoured. Will be back!!!

Went early (8:30) on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. Eggs Benedict with spinach was perfectly cooked. Fast, friendly service. Funky atmosphere was fun and entertaining.

Jam on Hawthorne was one of the best "finds" of our recent trip to Portland. The waiting time was at least thirty minutes--but absolutely painless. For the chatty crowd waiting on the sidewalks they had a serve-yourself coffee cart and tables and chairs that invited conversation to begin outdoors. Inside, the wait staff was very friendly and professional. And the food...! Some of the best French toast I've ever tasted (and I'm a connoisseur of fine F.T.). My husband loved his REAL corned beef hash and eggs. And I cannot forget to mention to delicious and unique Bloody Mary we shared. This was a true bell-ringer breakfast! Highly recommended!

Never sure what to expect being a Vegetarian but this place was fantastic. Has a very positive, open and airy atmosphere that is accentuated by all of the art that is displayed (and for sale) around the restaurant. Apparently, the art comes from some sort of collective. Some original works, mostly prints. As a breakfast person, and a bit of a snob, I was reasonably impressed with the fare here. Enough so we went back for a second round before leaving Portland. Didn't try non-breakfast items and don't drink so didn't go that direction either. This is a great place for family, couples, or just socializing with friends and the meal should not dissappoint.

Staff was hilarious and coffee was uniquely delightful. Best breakfast meal I’ve had in a while. Servings were huge and prices reflected the amount of food. Pricey for a single diner. Better to split an entree.

Before we set off on our way to San Francisco, we decided to start with full bellies. We both ordered scrambles. A Spicoli and a Downtowner. Delish! And, our server, Shelby was so friendly and sweet. Too bad we were just passing through or it would be a regular spot. Get there early, they open at 7:30 and there was a line.

I had heard a lot about this restaurant. We got there at 9:00am. There was a 45 minute wait but it took over an hour to get our table. The food was delicious and came out quickly but it was so not worth that kind of wait. I’d would happily return for the food but won’t do it with that kind of wait. The food is good but no breakfast is that good....

My husband and I came here on a Sunday morning for brunch and had a great time. There is typically a line to get in but since we were the only group of 2 waiting we were seated in just a couple minutes. The atmosphere inside is very much like an artsy coffee house - there is a lot of local art hanging on the walls that you can buy which was cool to look at. The service was quick and the food was fantastic. I had the loaded bowl which had hashbrowns, cheese and vegetarian gravy. I also ordered 1 slice of the Grand Marnier french toast. I added a blood orange mimosa to the mix which was quite tasty. It was way too much food for one person but it was absolutely delicious! I look forward to going back here as a regular brunch spot.

I went with my friend for brunch on a Sunday. It was crowded, so there was a wait for our table. We both have different dietary needs and Jam was willing to accomodate both of us without any issues. I ordered a tofu scramble. Normally I don't care for them, but this was delicious!!! I also had their chai, which was amazing! Friendly staff and great food. Highly recommended!

Found this place on trip advisor. This is an amazing place. The food is outstanding and the service is even better. You can tell they are well trained and naturally friendly. Wonderful place and highly recommended.

On this, our second trip to Portland in the last two years, we luckily were able to find Jam again. We had been there the year before and just loved the place, filled with young happy people, fun eclectic art on the walls for sale (last year, I bought a delightful original painting of a rooster for $40!), and really yummy food. Both times, we went for brunch and this time again, we were not disappointed. The waiter was so sweet to us old fogeys in our mid-70s. and the plates of bountiful delights came piping hot and absolutely delicious. We just love this place and already have it on our list to return to on our next trip to this foodie's paradise!

I went to Jam today so I would not have to endure the long lines on the weekend. Believe it or not it was still pretty packed when I entered. In fact, there was only room for me at the bar. I ordered the classic egg sandwich which had two eggs on it, bacon, and cheddar cheese. It also comes with a large portion of hash browns, and I told them to throw on a side of bacon. The food came out rather quickly considering how busy they were. The breakfast was very good. What makes sitting at the bar so cool is the tilted mirror so you can actually people watch and see everything going on behind you in the restaurant. It would be a cool shot in a movie if one were to be filmed here. I really liked the set up of the restaurant. It is a very popular spot so I recommend you visit on the weekday because the weekend is just crazy. Long lines. The only down side was there were two flies buzzing around the chandeliers above the bar. That was the only downer.

Be prepared to wait! We waited 75 minutes for a table for two at 12:00pm on a Sunday and the line wrapped around the block. Fortunately we were prepared for this and didn’t mind at all. We wandered over to Grand Central Bakery across the street and had coffee and pasties while we waited. Once our table was ready, we were greeted and put in an order within 10 minutes of seating. Our meals came out within 10 minutes — huge, huge portions. Very tasty! Lots of vegetarian options. Classic diner vibes, don’t expect anything fancy. Rancheros and their house hot sauce with the perfect over easy eggs was 10/10.

It was fun to let our kids play while we waited for our food. Try the maddie cakes! Most of the other food is standard brunch fare (still delicious, just not unique). The maddie cakes are like nothing I've ever had, though.

My daughter loves this place, she's vegan, so victory is hers. Crazy line of 30 people outside but walked around, waited, had one of their free coffees and got a table in 40 minutes. Great make your own scrambled eggs with some meat choices (I'm not vegan). Hash browns we're diner style and nothing special. Great pancake with blueberries and real maple syrup. Surprisingly good food. I went in expecting 3-1/2 from the look of the place and it was 4-1/2. Seating is very casual, it's crowded and very noisy.

Jam has so much to offer, I'm not sure where to begin. Start with one of their great mimosas or a sassy Bloody Mary as you peruse the menu and try to decide which of the delicious entrees to choose. Corned beef hash is house made and scrumptious. The smoked salmon and Brian's hash is equally delectable. For those that like a sweeter beginning to their day, try the Grand Marnier French toast or the Maddie cakes - lemon ricotta pancakes. Hashbrowns are actually browned, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. You can find all kinds of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets on the menu, too. The servers have great suggestions and are attentive but not cloying. Two drawbacks are no reservations and street parking; both can be difficult on the weekend. Wait time moves along as the space accommodates large numbers of people, and there is a large turnover in parking. Just go for it. It's a great Portland experience.

Excellent and kind service, not hurried, just consistent. And they rotated around with regular and decaf. GF waffle was tender with a crispy crust. Veggie sausage was a bit over warmed - like a hockey puck, but my table mats loved their meals.

We were a little late getting to Jam for Sunday Brunch. We had to wait outside for 30 minutes, but they had complimentary coffee to keep us happy. I ordered the build your own hash browns with 2 eggs and vegetarian sausage. It was enormous and packed with flavor. It seems that every table had something just as big and just as packed with good looking ingredients. This old building also has many interesting areas to sit and a lot of festive decor. I would put this on your list of must go to breakfast spots.

I tried some of my husband's-- it was delicious. I like how there is a play section for kids and also like how there is a gallery of artwork from local artists. I also like the interesting mimosa options.

Heard about this fun place for several years, FINALLY got there. Had to wait 20 or so minutes, but worth it! Awesome values! Had a Hammer scramble, ham, caramelized onion and Swiss cheese YUMMY! super portions, great tastes and left overs, too! My friend had lemon ricotta pancakes with blue berry compote, Maddie Cakes. place was packed, albeit NOISY, but we lived. SUPER attentive servers! Will return for sure and try something new

My daughters and I went for brunch (1:30 pm) the Monday after Easter and got a table right away! We ordered the a side of the One Chai Cake and were surprised by the size (filled a small plate). It was delicious (my non-vegan daughter liked it too) with or without syrup (ours had fresh blueberries in it) and were glad we were sharing it since we all ordered entrees. I ordered the special eggs benedict w/asparagus and basil sauce and my one daughter ordered Brian's Hash with poached eggs. The flavors were great but both of our eggs were hard (not runny as poached eggs should be). My other daughter ordered the Ranchero bowl and we paid the $1.50 extra for avocado. Note they also charge extra for almond milk in coffee (used to getting charged extra for coconut milk but not almond). We would go back again (their bloody mary menu looked awesome) but would definitely make it clear to not overcook the eggs.

On my trip to Portland, I visited this place for brunch. I just loved the food here. The scrambled eggs were made to perfection, the hash browns crisp, the bread and muffins freshly baked and the coffee was just right. A perfect place for a lazy Sunday brunch!

I loved this place so much. It was so funky and interesting. The food was amazing but the service and the care people showed is what makes this place a must. The staff was very friendly and even though the place is very busy on sundays they took the time to make sure you understood the menu and options. I would recommend the Bloody Mary, the salmon hash, the Reuben and the french toast. They don't take reservations but the queue moves quick. We barely waited 15 mins. Parking is available across the street.

Get there as early as you can or you will wait in line. I guess that's true anywhere in Portland, and it seems to be a PDX pass-time to wait on que for good food. We aren't really accustomed to that so we were a little bummed to be out in the chill air. Still, they have coffee service set up outside for those waiting to be seated. The gluten free options are plentiful. Service is slow but friendly. If you want to enjoy yourself here, do not be in a rush.

Super attentive staff, very friendly, food was amazing. There on a weekday morning, no wait at all. Great coffee!

Excellent mimosas, benedicts and french toast! Busy place, come early. The 90's are alive in Portland.

We ordered Reuben sandwich was very good. The restaurant was very granular casual Portland. Service was casual but passable.

I see people waiting in line at this place all the time , was up early with my son and noticed there was no wait , most days people wait two hrs or more . I went in with high expectations, I think the big draw at the Jam ,is a full service bar ready to go at 7:30 in the morning . The menu has option , scrambled eggs, wraps, pancakes ... did not see any omelets . The food had good flavor , my eggs were ice cold , I don’t like to send food back but either way nobody came around to check to see if everything was ok . Overall, I would not go back, I would never wait two hours to eat here . I guess if your big in alcohol for breakfast it might be your kind of place then it doesn’t matter how good the food and service is if your wasted . But as far as the food goes , nothing out of the ordinary,as far as the atmosphere, bar was cool looking , the rest was dated and not in a special way .

I enjoyed my simple two egg breakfast, done just right for me, generous helping of hash browns and marble rye toast. Coffee and fresh squeezed juice, what could be better on a cool rainy morning! Others enjoyed the salmon eggs benedict and the ham (large thick grilled ham slice, notable) eggs benedict, no complaints! Tofu scramble offered, very good too. Place is always packed, plan to wait a bit at this popular venue!

I was stoked to visit this place on the recommendation of friends. We went on a Friday for breakfast. Not crowded, we were seated right away. Good service, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, my order was wrong, I had ordered the special, they brought something else. I was assured it was not my mistake. After a very long wait, my food arrived, but my dining companions were nearly finished. Not willing to make them wait, my breakfast went unfinished. Paid the bill, left a tip, left hungry. Not the best experience.

Wow. What a fabulous menu...food and drinks. All our drinks were great and the food was unbelievable. Huge portions. And super service. Thanks. I will be back next time we are in Portland.

Busy spot. You might want to make a reservation if you are going during the busy times. Once inside, the service quick and friendly. The food arrived hot and fresh. Tried a couple of items, all were good. From my friends comments, their have not had a poorly prepared meal at Jam yet. I will go back but I will make a reservation first.

Fun place with tasty food at a great price. Kid friendly and large portions. Very busy so plan ahead. There is a great outdoor seating option.

Out searching for a handy place for breakfast as our hotel didn't offer this and found Jam on Hawthorne. Initial impressions were not great as there was a stuff up with our waitress and getting seating. Keep forgetting everywhere in the States you pretty much have to wait to be seated not the same in Australia. Anyway, things improved after we were seated and we found the menu selection varied and interesting, just like the cafe. I think most of our group were pretty happy with the quality of the food, with the exception of the hash browns. We also enjoyed some terrific service from one of the male waiters, who was continually re-filling coffee and getting milk/cream etc. The place is a little quirky and hip, more so than our group. Also looks to be popular venue for the locals as it was pretty busy. Recommended, yeah definitely worth a go.

If you plan to go to Jam after 8:30 or so on a weekend, you better have a snack first! Plan on an hour wait or so. The word it out that this is one of the top breakfast restaurants in Portland! There are so many wonderful choices on the menu! Go figure that my husband and I both ended up with the same thing though (he copied me!). We had the Cheech and Chong scramble. I liked that it had vegetarian chorizo (you’ll know what I mean if you look at the various body parts actually listed on a package of the real thing in the grocery store). We also added sour cream and avacado. It had tortilla strips in it and some other Mexican ingredients. They know how to make perfect hash browns too. Oh my goodness! Golden crispy wonderfulness on top of tender melt-in-your-mouth potato shreds underneath. Give this place a try if you can get out of bed early on a Sunday morning! If you’re lucky enough to be able to go on a weekday, go for it!

Great family breakfast place! Tons of high quality gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options to make everyone happy (true #portlandia!), and even a kids play are for the really small ones. We liked it so much that we came back the next morning!

My family and I seem to always be looking for new places to eat breakfast when we are in Portland so we decided to give this place a try and we were not disappointed. Our son is a picky eater but didn't have a problem finding something to eat. All of our food was delicious. We did have to wait 30 minutes to get in (just 3 of us) so it is a bit of a time commitment but worth it. Cute place, nice staff and great food!

Although we arrived early, we ended up having to wait 35-40 minutes for a table. The food was worth the wait! From the Maddie cakes to the scrambles (I had the Hammer), there isn't a bad menu item. Lots of choices, vegan & vegetarian & gluten free included. Even a self-serve coffee cart while you wait for a table! This is a must try in PDX.

we came here for lunch yesterday...i had the spinach salad with wheat toast...my friend had a veggie scramble with hash browns and coffee...the food was delicious, and the staff great!...the room was cozy as five flakes of snow dropped...so warm inside with the chilling wind...thx

Excellent brunch spot with an extensive menu that will satisfy both the savory and sweet tooth of the group. Get the make your own mimosas at the table!

Very pleased with the meal ended up with a clean plate it was so enjoyable, the waitress(patty) was so helpful with the menu it just added to the experience.

A girlfriend and I rode the train down to Portland for a whirlwind 24 hours...and the intent to taste the best food it had to offer with what time (and room!) that we had. We were going to have breakfast at another place that's very well known, but upon the recommendation from some people at the hotel and at the restaurant where we had dinner the night before (Departure! Separate review!), we uber'd over to Jam on Hawthorne. We were SO glad we did! There were a LOT of people waiting in line, but we managed to snag a place in the bar without waiting too terribly long. Kind of awkward standing around and waiting for people to finish their breakfast, and then have people standing behind us, waiting on us to finish ours, but oh well. That can totally be avoided by waiting for a table. I had the Eggs Benedict Florentine, and it was truly really amazing! I should have skipped the candied bacon in my giant Bloody Mary (for an upcharge of $2) as it was like biting into bacon-flavored sugar. The servings are honestly big enough for 2 or 3 people...I wish they would offer half-orders. But the left-over was a pretty tasty lunch on the train ride home later that day! Wish I could have taken the rest of my Bloody Mary as part of my leftovers!

I ordered the huevos rancheros and thought it was super tasty. I wasn't blown away or anything, but overall, I would definitely recommend this place to friends.

had breakfast, hash browns and omelette. the hash was good, the omelette as well (cheese and ham, not overcooked which I really hate). I sat there for over an hour, by myself at a table that could have seated 3-4, and although it was quite i never felt like i was being pushed to leave. very happy

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The most incredible french toast ever, who knew Grand Mariner french toast was a thing. Very fun atmosphere. I loved it.

The place is great and immense, the food is delicious and tasty and service was absolutely great. The place is very popular so brace yourself for the line, it's well worth it.

although there was self-service coffee outside for people who were waiting for a table, we discovered some people were not careful about where they put their used cups (as in where the clean cups were) so we skipped it. very friendly service

We’ve been visiting Jam over The 9 + years we have lived in Portland. It is always good, very creative breakfasts, friendly staff and great service. You can’t go wrong planning a meal at Jam. Be ready for a wait, they are always busy, also make sure your whole party is there they won’t seat you until everyone arrives. My only knock on them is the server brought out check as we were finishing our meal. That knocked them off 5 stars, I find it to be a little rushy to bring check before we ask.

We eat here every visit to Portland. You know it's good when there is always a wait. They never disappoint.

Came here with a friend on a weekday. Had to wait about 20 before we were seated, but you could have coffee outside while you waited. The mocha was ok, but the pulled pork huevos rancheros with their homemade black beans was amazing. The hash brows were good too. Family friendly and a play area for kids if you need it.

This is a very cool place, very artfully decorated, the art is for sale, & the food was great. I had eggs benedict, my daughter had a pesto, tomato an egg wrap, my husband had a corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and my grandson who is dairy free had vegan blueberry pancakes with bacon. It is a must stop in Portland.

The service was very warm and friendly. The restaurant is well set up to entertain young children. The food was delicious! With such a diverse menu I suspect this place will continue success into the future!

We had friends come down from Seattle and we met them for breakfast. We decided early would be better since it was a Sunday. Drive in and found street parking right away. Went inside and waited less than 5 min and were taken to a large table and we were comfortable. We had four adults and two infants. Everyone scrambled to help us get situated. The menu is fun and everything looked great! We had a variety of dishes and no one complained a bit! Good food! We all shared some lemon ricotta pancakes as well. I can’t wait to go back and try a new thing. As we left it was quite crowded. Earlier is better. I have heard weekdays are great.

We were fortunate to be staying in an AirBnB around the corner, and made our way to Jam for breakfast several times. I wish that we had the opportunity to work our way through the menu. So many wonderful choices! The food was great, and the staff was even better. I would be a regular if I lived closer!

So we arrived early, almost walked right in. If we had waited an hour it would have been worth it. First the menu is huge and the selection of traditional, vegetarian and vegan can not be beat. The coffee, Magnolia is great, a little acidic, but not too much. Hash browns are brown and not greasy, Vegetarian gravy was better than the meaty stuff. And the orange infused, marianberry puree topped french toast is unforgettable. Became our favorite breakfast spot in one swoop. Prices great serving size too big. Even though the service is little slow, because they are so insanely and parking stinks, only on the street perhaps blocks away.

We dined at Jam on Hawthorne with our family of 15 in February. The staff was very accommodating with the seating, not to mention the 7 children we had between ages 1-14. They have a great play area for young kids on the stage to keep little occupied until the grub comes. The food was also delicious. Everyone at our table was happily impressed with assortment of dishes they tried. The Jam provided on the table was INCREDIBLE and full of flavor. If we visit Portland again, we will be sure to eat here.

Coming from NYC, I got the whole Village brunch vibe at this place in Portland. It was your typical get there, put your name on a list, and wait spot. They had plenty of great selections to choose from, a play area for the kids, and a some great art posted everywhere. For those looking for a more organic and/or gluten free breakfast, then you definitely are going to want to come here. I will be going back here next time I'm in Portland. PS. Our waitress had a Pearl Jam Avocado tattoo. Keep it weird Portland!

Came here with my wife for my birthday brunch at 10:30 on a Tuesday morning. Place was packed, but we found open seating at the bar. Probably the most Portland place I’ve ever been. More tattoos & beards per square foot than anywhere else in town. Everyone working was very nice & chill & service was quick. I had a Bloody Mary with the candied bacon & my wife had a blood orange mimosa, both were great. She ordered the Spicoli scramble & I had Brian’s hash, which was pretty good, but could have had more sausage in it & I’m not the biggest fan of the frozen shredded hash browns. Will definitely be back & try something different.

nice local atmosphere and interesting menu. I was visiting Portland and was glad that a local friend picked Jam for breakfast on the weekend I was there. The only downside was the LONG wait which was about 30 minutes.

Eclectic, contemporary, shabby chic, inclusive, hip, gourmet, gluten free friendly, stylish, hip, urban, vibrant, UN-rushed are just some of the words that come to mind....Before we review the fantastic creative and interesting menu. We loved the salmon, capers, hollandaise with poached eggs over hash browns! Fantastic Cascade brand Gluten free toast, which is new to these two celiac diners. Excellent mimosas, we recommend the blood orange but the 8 tastes offered will please everyone. Fun music, local artwork and interesting tattoos represent the local culture perfectly. Jam is a MUST EAT in Portland!

There was a bit of a wait to get a table, but it was worth it. We had an amazing brunch complete with cocktails. The huevos rancheros was delicious.

Had to wait quite a bit, but the atmosphere was fun and the food was delicious! Definitely recommend!

Had a quick brunch while in town and it was awesome! Their biscuits were A+...and that jam...yummy! Will be back next time I'm in town!

This is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants in Portland. They have a diverse menu that should satisfy most people, including vegans and those who are gluten intolerant. The atmosphere is hip and noisy, but the acoustics and high ceilings take the edge off the din. Once seated, it is easy to relax, gain a sense of personal space, and enjoy a leisurely and satisfying meal. The bar is well stocked and they have a variety of delicious juices used in mimosas for those looking to add alcohol to their mornings, although I have not tried the drinks myself. Expect a wait most of the time, but there is self serve coffee and some outside seating to make that a pleasant experience.

This place was busy when we got there. There was an hour wait. They had hot coffee available while you waited for a table. It was worth the wait because their food was good! They have a wide selection of food including gluten free and organic meals on their menu so everyone in your party will enjoy. My favorite was their flavored mimosas. The hubby got the peach mimosas and I had the pleasure of trying the lavender mimosa. Wished I took pictures of the food. It comes to show that we were hungry!!! The kid's drinks came in a sippy cup which they also enjoyed drinking from.

Good place to eat. Had breakfast and enjoyed one of the scrambles. Although busy the wait staff was efficient and I never had to wait for a coffee refill.

This restaurant has a lot of buzz going for it, and is well patronized. We chose it because of it's ranking on TA, being in the top 10 for breakfast. Our party of 4 arrived at 10 am for a late breakfast / early lunch and were seated in about 10 minutes. A number of tables were empty apparently for lack of servers (a Thursday morning). While we were there only one of the empty tables was actually used. The business consists of two building spaces connected with a interior opening. The smaller space with a door on the corner was apparently the original restaurant, and the larger space is much larger consisting of two building spaces opened into a single large one with a bar at one end. Both spaces are being used. The smaller of the two is much quieter, but seats very few people. The large space is noisy from the cement floor and high ceiling (you can see the roof rafters). We ordered the French Toast, "Just Eggs" with a side of Maddie Cake (pancake), Waffle and BYO Scramble. The scramble had cheddar cheese, mushrooms, tomato and red onions. Each of these was $1.00 extra, otherwise the scramble would have just been scrambled eggs. The waffle had strawberries and hazelnuts added and each of those was $1 extra. Coffee is $2.75 per cup, but they were good about refills. Our bill was a dollar less than $50 for 4 meals. While the portions are medium plus, they are not LARGE. My dish was the French Toast which included (of the 3 pieces on the plate) one heel of the loaf. Really - couldn't that have gone into bread pudding or something else? A drizzle of berry syrup was decoratively applied to each piece. Butter was furnished separately, but it would not melt on the toast, just laid in lumps on the top. The other food was warm, but having the plates in a warming oven before the food is put on them would go a long way to being able to serve at a better temperature. The restaurant itself is fairly cool so no help there. The rest of the party said their food was "OK" but this is not a rave venue for food. Service was reasonable given the house was short of people, "John" was quick and did the best he could with the number of tables he had. On the plus side, Maple syrup that is served with meals purports to be real maple. One of our party from Maine said she believed it probably was, having enjoyed it on the East Coast many times. Cream for your coffee comes in small mini pitchers and is not half and half, but close to it, which is still better than the small white plastic servings found in many places. The "Maddie" cakes are supposedly a signature dish here, but honestly, they are different in flavor but essentially a pancake when all is said and done. Perhaps the food quality could be stepped up a notch to equal the pricing if the kitchen had the time.

If you're looking for great service, this is not the place. If you're looking for great breakfast, it's here. Had the Maddie cakes and the blueberries had my teeth stained all day, totally worth it. Most delicious lemon ricotta pancakes and the French Toast was perfectly crunchy and sweet. Long wait with waiting outside sucked, not sure why it took so long.

My wife and I were visiting our son and daughter-in-law who just relocated to Portland. They took us here and we loved it. Great food and setting.

Another amazing entrant into Portland's collection of fantastic food establishments for vegans and vegetarians. Hawthorne Street is always a great visit, and Jam makes it better. The space is cavernous and arty. It is a busy, busy space; things are in constant motion, so it makes for an interesting vibe. Staff is attentive and friendly. Now, here again is where Portland sets a standard: Waiting in line (the usual routine for weekend brunch)? No problem. Help yourself to free coffee at the outdoor serving station. Can't find your server inside and want coffee? Help yourself to the indoor coffee station. Here in backwater Victoria, one popular brunch place encourages you to use the cafe next door, while waiting outrageous times, and spend your money there, and then get called in to spend more money on coffee at your actual brunch. What a joke! I talking about you Mole Cafe. As for the food, Jam does not disappoint. So many good options. I had the El Beardo scrambler with house made biscuit. The hash browns are absolutely fantastic. It being Portland, the coffee is outstanding. My only complaint: the play area for children. I am sure parents appreciate it, but those of us with grown children don't want noisy children running around. It is hard to relax and enjoy the company of the people you are with. New parents, especially, are so myopic, they have no clue how disruptive their children are, because they are constantly in that chaos. Please, get a baby-sitter, or to go a chain restaurant, and give the rest of us some peace on a weekend. Regardless, Jam remains, a must visit.

We come to Portland from Central Oregon for the Broadway plays and on this trip we decided to go out for breakfast instead of having the free one from the hotel. We are so glad we made the choice to go out. We had heard of this place and decided to go here. We had about an hour wait that was so worth it. The Maddie cakes (lemon ricotta pancake with blueberry compote) and eggs Benedict were beyond delicious. The hollandaise is the kind I remember from years ago and the lemon in the cakes just perfect. The four had fabulous food also. Perfect for vegan food, so I recommended it to my friend who cannot eat meat and dairy. Thank you for such delicious food, I’m looking forward to our next visit

We waited about 20 minutes for a table by the play area. My 2 year old nephew was traveling with us & is a busy, busy boy, so we waited for a table by the play area to open up. The staff was just wonderful, they made our brunch as enjoyable as possible & the food was fantastic. One of the best breakfasts we have had!

We absolutely loved all of the options there. My wife enjoyed the salmon breakfast sandwich. I had the gluten free bacon and egg/cheese sandwich. Love the service and the wait was not long. We will absolutely come again.

This was fabulous all the way around. The waiter was hilarious, personable and attentive. The food was fantastic and bountiful. Would definitely return when we’re in that neighborhood.

Delicious breakfast, Service is friendly, relaxed and attentive to detail. The hash browns were the highlight but if they would use a bit less butter would be great. My husband had the blueberry pancakes and loved it! I looked around before ordering and thought the portions were massive, saw a few tables having half of their meal as take away (doggy bag) since they couldn’t finish it. Therefore I opted to order something from the kids menu the grilled cheese sandwich with hash browns and side order of avocado. The kids menu grilled cheese sandwich was delicious & more than enough for me. Coffee is great and they keep refilling!

Amazing food and wonderful drinks. Come expecting a long wait and get a peach mimosa while you wait. Something for everyone and super yummy.

This place was awesome for brunch. Lots of options and plenty of things to substitute...such as tofu instead of eggs. And the portions were perfect. Would definitely recommend this place.

Oh my, let me tell you about Jam on Hawthorne... A friend suggested meeting there when I traveled to Portland and after looking at the menu online it sounded good. In person it was REALLY good. There was a wait to get in at 1:00 p.m. on a Monday but we got seated quickly. The food was sooo good--I ordered a scramble with a side of hash browns and since eating those hash browns I've told several people how good they were. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, almost like mashed potatoes. They were amazing. The scramble was good too and between the two I couldn't finish everything on my plate. Service was attentive but not obnoxious. My coffee cup was rarely less than half-full due to the attentiveness of our server. I love that there's a play area for children, and the theme/decor of the restaurant was fun and a little funky. If I have the opportunity to come back to Jam on Hawthorne, it'll definitely be on my list of places to revisit in Portland!

Amazing breakfast/brunch food! Their pancakes (Maddie’s) are probably the best I’ve ever had. Eggs Benedict is also amazing as well as their JAM! Yummmm it’s sooooo good on sour dough toast! They have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Service is decent, food usually comes quick. Hip atmosphere. Expect a very long wait on weekend mornings.

We loved this funky place on the SE side. We were lucky to be seated quickly. The food was incredible. I had the salmon hash, and my whole few had lemon blueberry pancakes. Both were fabulous. Very nice that the restaurant supports local artists

If you are vegetarian, vegan or not, you will find something tasty for breakfast. A return visit is a must, but can get busy on a weekend morning

Stopped in for breakfast with family as i was in town visiting from Chicago. Been here 2 other times and 3rd time today was equally as excellent as the other two earlier this year and last year! Corned beef hash is just flat-out terrific as was the scramble dishes others at our table enjoyed. Fresh made orange juice and top-drawer coffee also delicious.... Famous for unique Bloody Mary's with slice of candy bacon--- and also terrific..... Just cannot say enough superlatives about this place--- truly a gem and well-worth a stop if in Portland for memorable breakfast!

Upon arriving from the San Francisco Bay Area, we relished the top-rated food and exceptional customer service!!!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Jam. Three of us shared the side item chai blueberry pancake in addition to own own plates, and it may have been the highlight of all. Everything was so delicious, and portions were large.

The food here is quite good but maybe I'm too old now to enjoy dining with this level of noice. Actually, I never liked a noisy restaurant! I had a bowl with hash browns and beans, good enough but had a tummy ache the rest of the day. So, I can't really recommend this restaurant. Not for a foodie.

We loved Jam! Our server Montario had superhuman memory for such a large table. Incredibly fast and friendly service, and food was so good!! We will definitely return when we visit Portland again!

Need I say more? The vibe of the bustling breakfast place is so fun. The food is superb! I had the above and wished I could have licked my plate. The corned beef melted in my mouth. I had high expectations of the raspberry jam on the table and was NOT disappointed. Mega fruity without being too sugary. Best with one of their homemade biscuits IMO. My mom had a beautiful and delicious bloody Mary and eggs with bacon. She ate every bite! Also tried the sausage - Yum to the MO!! If I get back to Portland, I will come back here for sure.
Super nice breakfast
First stop in Portland for breakfast. I had a scramble and coffee after a long flight. Service was great and the jam was really great!
