We took our family here to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday during Henley Regatta. The service was dreadful, the buffet was very poor in terms of both selection and quality. It was extremely overpriced at £49.00 a head for essentially tired salads, smoked fish and a beef stew and very undercooked vegetables.

My husband and I checked in to the hotel in the afternoon after a long flight. We were hungry after our flight, so we decided to try out the restaurant since it was convenient. It opened at 5 pm for dinner so we went down a few minutes after and were seated at a wonderful table overlooking the Columbia River - excellent views. Our server was very good - friendly and personable. However, we both were a little disappointed in the food. At our server's suggestion, we ordered the special appetizer - fried mashed potato balls w/gravy inside. You get only 3 for $9, and it was exactly what she said, fried mashed potato balls w/gravy, but not very tasty. For entrees, my husband ordered the Mushroom Rigatoni--he said was pretty good. I ordered the Romaine Salad with Prawns (5). Unfortunately, the romaine wasn't fresh and a good portion of it was wilted and had some brown edges where it was chopped. Romaine should be crispy, not wilted. The prices were reasonable, but we were disappointed in the overall quality of the food. However, the view was exceptional!!

Staff were very good and service was quick, even at bust times. Plenty of food choices and good size servings. Good beer choices with local micro brewery beers available.

We arrived for lunch about 12:30 or so. Only about ten customers in the restaurant at the time. Our grandson (five years old) ran in and jumped up on the barstool and a very cranky employee looked upset and told him he wasn't old enough to be there. Cranky. Service was very very slow and servers were not all that friendly. Hamburgers and fries satisfied us but I never did get the iced tea I ordered.

Great view of the river and Vancouver WA , Fried Brussels sprouts were wonderful, we also enjoyed the shrimp and chips and the fried sole

Nice view over the river, not very busy, only a few people in the place. They do have an outside veranda. Appetizers were ok, pasta was ok, the chicken was not even close.

This restaurant was found because it was "there" in the hotel. We were not expecting much. Boy, were we wrong! The food was fantastic! Service spot on too. It was all perfect. We had the New York Strip, Steelhead salad, Patty melt and a whole host of extras. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. Service fast and friendly. All in all we will return! Thank you!

Service was friendly and overall good food. We sat at a high top table but I would have preferred to sit at the window for a better view but they were all taken, it was late, we were hungry so we didn't want to wait for one to open up.

The view is nice and the food was awesome. We ate breakfast and dinner there and were happy with both meals. The service was great as well. I recommend the breakfast sandwich on a bagel.

The menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner always had something that appealed to me. The featured dinner entree one night was a salmon filet that was cooked to perfection.

Four adults and one 3 yr old grandson here, returning after one year. I wrote a dinner review July 24, 2016 and we are back for breakfast. Perfect service. Nice room with a wonderful view of the Columbia River and the boats. Very good food well prepared. We will come again.

Simply put, it's good food. It's a straightforward menu that changes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that's consistently delicious, no matter what you get. Things to eat: Kobe burger at dinner. It's delicious, I've eaten like.. 12 of them. The chips with their spinach dip is addicting (the chips are super salty, but in a perfect way). The shortribs were great... and a friend says the fish & chips are super satisfying. Drinks are consistently good as well.

Well prepared dishes,. Try the Crispy Dungeness crab cakes, real lobstrr in scrambled eggs. Fresh vegetables. Reasonably priced local wines from Oregon and Washington. Wait staff seemed a bit ovrrworked resulting in long wait times. Overall, it's well worth dining here. I enjoyed 2 breakfssts, lunvh, and 2 dinners.

Great view, good food, very pleasant service and reasonably priced. The fish and chips were great, and the burgers average.

Owing to the conference schedule I ate here quite a lot during the week. While vegetarian options are not abundant, the food was delicious.

Was an okay place. Don't know that I found the prices matched up to the food. Also don't know that I would go bsck.

Four of us had dinner. Service was excellent, food was amazing. Friendly, comfortable spot for dinner after a long day of driving. Our table had a variety of food everyone was happy with taste, look and amount of food served. The ribs with a mountion of fries under them were very good, pear salad, scallops and steak salad, were all very good. Enjoyable atmosphere not real loud, you get a great view of the river, it was cold, they had a fire going on the patio but no patrons out there, would be nice on a sunny day.

Upon arrival i was told the restaurant had moved from the upper floor overlooking the water to the inside lobby overlooking the parking lot. Came for the view, left with an empty stomach, sorry.

This meal occurred before boarding and was both tasty and the staff was very attentive to the special needs of our 94 & 96 year old parents.

Four of us had a nice lunch here after checking into the hotel. We all ordered different items. One had shrimp and fries, one had the Cuban sandwich and the other two had other sandwiches from the menu. The service was excellent. There is a nice choice of beers and the prices seem fair. All in all I would certainly recommend this place for lunch or snacks. We were told by other customers the breakfast is very good as well.

awsome he is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!, He was curtious, the food was outstanding, couldn't ask foir more,. He and the Oxford Suites, will always be first place on My List.

Had dinner here after sailing to the marina nearby. It's a wonderful location right on the Columbia River and the views both in and out can't be beat. Wait staff was excellent and very attentive to our needs. Perhaps lunch would be a better choice since the dinner was disappointing. I had the Romaine Salad which was fair but nothing special and the Risotto. I am a huge Risotto fan and when it is done right it is one of my dinner favorites. Unfortunately, although the it was billed as a corn Risotto, it reminded me of Green Giant creamed corn that I had as a child, truly mush. My friend had the fish special which he though was good, but again nothing spectacular. They did have a nice wine menu and again the views were wonderful, perhaps try breakfast or lunch,

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all great dining experiences. The servers and hosts were friendly and worked in a timely fashion. The view of looking out over the Columbia River providing a relaxing atmosphere.

The highlight for us of this large restaurant inside the Red Lion Inn was the fabulous view from the outside patio next to the Columbia River of Mt. Hood and sailboats in the river. We were in shorts on a balmy summer eve at 845pm, in time to catch the full dinner service that ended at 9, Our server (Hidie?) was friendly and very good. They also had food-bringers which made everything that much fresher. To start we had the romaine salad with cheese crustini $5 and white bean and turkey soup $5; both were good. For mains we both had the blackened shrimp risotto $18. The risotto was a corn style which isn't my favorite, but tasted good. It was not spicy at all. The 5 blackened grilled shrimp on top were more salted than blackened. Grilled spiced arugula was a nice added touch. The restaurant is open for 3 meals plus a late night bar menu. Enter from the main hotel entrance.

We stayed two nights in the hotel and had one late night (9:30pm) meal and two breakfast in the restaurant. The river view is great! Service was prompt and attentive. Breakfast menu was very good and the bacon done to perfection. The late night menu starts after 9:00 pm and suited us more than the dinner menu did. It offers more "comfort" food, with a delicious Mac & Cheese or things like Chicken Strips. Good wine selection and a great spot to unwind after a long day of driving.

Pretty good food for a hotel restaurant. View over the river is great as well. Service was good and quick!

Almost gave this a 'very good' rating.... so close. We were pleasantly surprised, actually- not staying at the hotel but checking it out because of location and other reviews. The atmosphere is nice, and outside seating on a warm summer night (or lunch) is a must do! You are right on the Columbia River with amazing views. Service was great and our waiter was very fun and friendly (we left the grumpy bartender inside) and the menu is fairly priced. Our seafood pastas were very tasty. The only thing- the 'IT' factor that makes or breaks a place- seemed to be missing. They are just needing a tweak to bring this place to a super restaurant level, since they have all the parts!! It can be so much more than just a good hotel restaurant. Examples of this- food presentation could use a little more flair, like parsley or a swirl on the plate. The PEPPER grinder should have real pepper corns in it, not powdered pepper! (Hint: buy one nice one and bring it around!) Nicer tablecloths, flowers on the table or something. It's almost there but just missing the boat. We will go again- the kobe burgers looked wonderful and they have a great happy hour.

We sat on the balcony by the water. We both had pasta dishes that were very good. Enjoyed the view, the atmosphere and great service. Don't overlook this when going to dinner. It beats the craziness and crowds you usually find in Portland.

Some of my colleagues were staying at the Red Lion during a recent business trip, so I join them for dinner on a few occausions. The dining room at the Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill is rather large and conservatively decorated. The wait staff is professional and friendly; they know the menu and they are very helpful. The food is wonderful! The Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill has a small menu, and the meals are exceptional. I had tender, flavorful steaks that I could cut with a fork! I haven't been disappointed by any one of my meals here. My only complaint is the size of the meal portions, in comparsion to the menu price. However, this will not deter me from eating here in the future. The food is high quality and worth the price.

I was having lunch at the restaurant while at a conference. The dining room was only partially full and yet we sat and waited for one and a half hours for our food. I finally had to complain to the manager and his excuse was that the kitchen was a little behind. I had ordered a BLT sandwich and so did my companion. When they finally brought the order they only had one and explained that there was confusion on whether the order had been duplicated. Ten minutes later they second sandwich finally arrived. We had to return to the conference so we had them put it in a to go box. When i open the box the sandwich had slid over and the side salad was composed of three butter lettuce leaves. The sandwich lacked any type of condiments.

the crab cakes were amazing, but the calamari was not. Clam chowder was very good. Best thing about it is probably the location, the river front is beautiful.

I had a really good basic breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. I was satisfied and they filled our coffee quick. Looked like the staff was busy and working hard but they needed more people. F16's fly over every day and you can't hear when they do. Not a big deal and doesn't last too long but surprising.

We went for happy hour. There were not too many people in there. The happy hour Chardonnay was crummy quality so I probably won't be going here again. The Chardonnay they serve before happy hour which we had was pretty good. I thought the happy hour menu was expensive. We ordered crab cakes and they were served up in less than 5 minutes so I wonder about that. Expensive for what they were.

We were there around 9 am on a weekday. Our waitress was very nice but it took over a half an hour to get our food and there were only a few other patrons. The view is very nice and the food was good.

If you can keep from flashing back to Magnum PI, the view of the river is great and, in the warm months, there is outdoor seating. The GOOD: The menu is a single page affair that covers all bases. This could be the bad if it weren't for the fact that it covers them like an all-star utility player. Each dish is a delightful food paring as the flavors of the unusual bring the usual to a different level. The breakfast is top shelf too. Bacon dipped in pancake batter, who’d a thunk it?? The BAD: the service can be spotty. You may find yourself sitting for quite a while unacknowledged if you hit the dining room at the wrong time even though a hostess has placed you with care. The INDIFFERENT: Food portions are “French” style which some people may consider rude and small, but I consider proportionate to eating APP, ENTRY, DESERT. The menu hasn’t changed in the 9 months between visits and “King Salmon” seems to be the King of nightly specials.

Ok. So we were hesitant. Shouldn't have been. Amazing views, no doubt. But great food as well. Spinach artichoke dip was wonderful, and the fresh tortilla chips with it were killer, and the the crab stuffed sole was to die for!! Perfectly prepared! Well done. This is night one. Will update.

Stopped in for a glass of wine before got no to dinner. We had good service and chose to not order appetizers as we had prior other arrangements for dinner.

This place has a good variety of menu items. The food is good and there is an excellent view of the river. We enjoy the ambience. Great place for a relaxing or romantic dinner.

The drinks and food where very well made and yummy. The service was first class. The view was something everyone should see. Relaxing, peaceful, yummy food.

I wouldn't rate this "very good" compared to all restaurants in Portland; but for the location, the price (of the hotel) and the convince it's a definite go. We extended our stay in Portland and I chose this hotel for the price and ratings. Husband was in bed sick, and I didn't want to keep wining-and-dining as we had for 4 nights....It was a toss-up between the hotel restaurant and the near-by Taco Bell, but I wanted wine so.... Good dinner. Fabulous focaccia with garlic. Decent wine selection. On later visits, good soup and great Bloody Mary's. The servers were really professional and made a point of recognizing me/us.

Wonderful seafood dinner on the terrace overlooking the River. It was our first night in Portland and we were tired and hungry. I had heard good things about the place and we decided to go because it was right across the street from our hotel. Good move on our part. Great service in a nice room with outdoor seating. Very laid back. We loved it.

breakfast is outstanding - even the bread (toast) was outstanding. dinner and appetizers were also excellent.

My sister and I were spending the night at the Red Lion and decided to have a drink and something to eat at the bar. We tried the Calamari and it was fantastic! I am not a huge calamari fan but this was very good! It had some onion and fennel in it, which made the calamari taste so much better. The view of the river was nice and the bar itself had a nice feel to it. I am still dreaming about that calamari!!

This has a nice view which you will pay for in price of the food. The food was ok. The beet salad was lots of greens and little grain. The sliders were ok. In a pinch it was ok.

A nice place to eat even if you aren't staying at the hotel. Very attentive wait staff, a variety of craft beers, and a savory food menu. They serve all day.

I would have given this review a 1, but the NY steak I had was actually quite tasty. The potatoes were burned, and the side salad consisted only of lettuce. My husband had 3 cheese ravioli which was not cooked enough, very tough and chewy, and cold, along with burned toasted bread. And it was pretty expensive, even if it had been tasty. Don't waste your time or money. The only good thing was the waitress, who I felt sorry for, because she was very friendly. It wasn't her fault she had to serve yucky food.

Always nice to have the staff remember you when you return over a couple of days. Just a word of warning...If you order a salad, be sure to order the "small" size -- it was more than enough to feed me & then some!!

We had a wonderful lunch of chowder and a shared hummus and pita bread plate. We came back for dinner that evening and the meal was not quite as appealing. Service was friendly and there is a beautiful view of the river.

Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner during our stay at the jantzen beach red lion. My husband enjoyed pork sholder with roasted sweet potatoes. I had fish tacos which was the daily special. We both enjoyed a tradional ham and eggs breakfast. The food and service were very good.

We held our small company Christmas dinner party at the Jantzen Beach Bar and Grill. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and the view was stunning. Great place for groups large or small.

We took our adult son, his wife and the 2 year old grandson for a dinner with a dramatic view. I will come back. My husband and I had a delicious steak salad, just right. My son loved his Kobe burger. My daughter in law had a good looking Portuguese seafood stew, and the little guy had ravioli. Rio, the manager was charming. He brought Otto a reward of ice cream for finishing his dinner. We all had a good time. I had vodka on the rocks, double, with the well vodka, which is Crater Lake. Expensive. But hey, we had a good time and good food. Traffic: rough coming from PDX Friday rush hour.

I don’t know if the new dining room is permanent. It seems more like a coffee shop for breakfast and lunch. The other dining area with the view of the river is being remodeled. We really like the halibut and chips here. It is surprisingly very good. The breakfasts are good too and I like the atmosphere but wish it was in a part of the complex with a view.

Nice dining room in the Bar and Grill with attentive service. The breakfast and lunch options are wonderful, even the Steel Cut Oats served with Cream! Loved their Black Benedict, served with balsamic vinegar (made there) marinated tomato slice! Delish! Even the coffee is very good and plentiful!

Ate here when staying at the hotel. Pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was! They are currently remodeling the restaurant, and the view will be wonderful when it's completed.

We visited as a couple for drinks and dinner. Hotel could use some updating, the bar and grill was nice. Great views of the river, menu was a bit pricey but it's a Red Lion, so, we understand that.

Great staff who are hard working and aim to please. Food is average and the view is incredible! If you live in the area ask for the 20% off for locals.

Though friendly, the staff was not what I expected for a popular bar and grill. Super wide selection of local brews. Not surprisingly, the patrons were all hotel guests so I felt like I was eating at a Senior Citizen cafeteria. Ended up driving 3 minutes down the street to Sanford's where the bartender and waitress were super and the food excellent.

had the steak and it was perfect - nice wine list - not a bad view in the place - price was right for a hotel restaurant

Very tasty shrimp and clam chowder. Hubby enjoyed the very tender steak. Disappointed they didn't have the bagel and lox that was on the menu in the room but not in the restaurant though. And their room service menu only being available on tv in the room was very inconvenient.

The weather was great so we sat at their outdoor seating area with a great view of the Columbia River. We eat Dinner and had breakfast the following morning. They din't have sandwiches for the dinner but we were able to find some lighter items. The breakfast was exceptional and the service was very good.

On our first day in Portland we spent lunch at this restaurant. First of all it seemed that the waitress that we had did not like her job - -she was crabby, not attentive to our needs. Such as no refills on our iced tea, it took 20 minutes to just pay the bill and over 25 minutes to just place our order. The food was mediocre but the view of the river was great. I do not recommend going out of your way to visit this restaurant. Portland has many more excellent choices to choose from.

Just had an Amazing breakfast overlooking the Columbia River. Kate took great care of us and the food was perfect. Just what we were looking for! Thanks JB Bar and Grill!

Ate here for breakfast - fantastic views, great service, delicious food, very convenient location since we were staying in the hotel. Decent prices for breakfast though I have a sneaky feeling dinner was a bit pricier!

We got seated right away when we came down from our room for dinner. We waited about an hour for a server to realize that we were there and the restaurant was not busy. We ordered drinks and I got my glass of wine in another 15 minutes, but it took another 15 minutes for my wife to receive her soft drink. We were ignored again for a while and the manager finally came over and took our order. We ordered our entrees which arrived in a reasonable amount of time and turned out to be acceptable. The next morning we came down for breakfast because it was part of our room package. We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be served. We should have gone to Denny's where the quality is better. I don't think we will come back even though the property has great river views.

Several of us used the hotels restaurant for breakfast the first day. To say service was slow is putting it mildly. The server staff acted like they'd never worked in the business before this. 1st off the place was dimly lit with basically the light from the river facing windows supplying it. The place was only about 10% filled but still we waited quite awhile to get a server. She took our coffee and tea order and poof disappeared for 15 min. Then another server appeared and ask for our drink order. Huh? After about 5 more minutes the 1st server reappeared with our coffee etc. Finally we were able to order our food which took longer than it should have to prepare. Food was OK but not worth the wait. After this experience we ate breakfast at the Burger King across the street from the hotel. Hopefully someone reads this review and gets their act together. They lost a lot of business.

New waiter, but we were able to walk him through the menu options. The Dungeness crab cakes were awesome and so was the salmon special. The Panini was small but good, although my friend's burger was really amazing.

We had pretty much the entire breakfast menu and a couple of Dinner entrées. It was great tasting and varied, they have a little something for everyone. Service was FANTASTIC. The whole team was amazing, but the real standout was Douglas. He was kind, helpful, and gave us great recommendations around the local area. The ambiance was quiet and laid back, always playing catchy songs. Overall, highly recommend this great restaurant attached to a good hotel.

Hostess sat us down at a table for 7 and our waitress was as friendly as it gets and gave us great service throughout. The food was great and a beautiful view of the Columbia River.

We never did get to eat, but for seniors this is not the place to go. The menu is expensive and portions very large. We were seated and sat for 10 minutes without anyone even coming to give us water or take a drink order or a food order. We got up and walked out.

I walked in, was greeted by a delightful person at the podium, asked if I could take a seat at the bar and was motioned that direction. One other person at the bar, a few spots where someone had been but the remnants of that visit were still on the bar. I sat down, there are 3 people behind the bar and nothing coming over the bar, all attention to each other and servers. It is 5 minutes before the staff stop talking to each other before someone comes over. Really limited beer selection for a Portland bar, I think there were 4 taps and 10 bottles, nothing really inspiring. I got a bottle of beer and ordered a basket of onion rings. The delightful person that was at the podium brought my onion rings, but other than that, this was the end of my service. Three people behind the bar, now three people at the bar and the staff interacts with each other. I waited about 15 minutes with an empty beer before I left. The view is unbelievable, but the service is unbelievable in a bad way.

In a rush at a conference, hummous take-out, best ever ($7.00). The view would be great, given time to enjoy it.

What a GREAT FIND ‼️ we were so surprised that we did not NEED to leave the hotel to enjoy nice meals. The staff was fun, attentive and had such a good vibe as it opens to a big lobby and the bar w/Sports TV. My husband I were THRILLED! We could not believe we were at a HOLIDAY INN - it was GREAT !!!

This is in the lobby of the Holiday Inn. It's very small and includes the hotel's lounge. The food was not very good, and was very expensive.

The view on a good day sitting outside is excellent. The two stars for view and the wait staff, as for food it was horrible. We ordered soup, salad and chicken satay -we were hungry and tired not wanting to drive in to downtown. It was a huge mistake. The Campbell soup would have been better-chicken was tasteless I believe it was micro waved than grilled...dont go there

Ate here twice on a business stay. Good service. Good bar food. Seafood stew was A+. Nice view of the river. Outside seating avaiable. Good beer selection on tap.

The restaurant is right in the hotel so convenience was a plus! The food was wonderful and we got to look out on the water and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Portland in the evening. The staff was so accommodating too. I highly recommend this hotel and restaurant!

We've had dinner here a couple of times and breakfast recently. I especially liked the hash for breakfast. For dinner I had fish and chips. I don't recall it being outstanding but not bad either.

This the the Restaurant inside the Red Lion Jantzen Beach hotel. Good food and friendly service. Everyone is always very friendly.

Do not underestimate the service. The server was at the top of her game with a poor product to deliver. The food was unexceptional. It was barely average. We didn't want to drive to Portland for dinner as we'd just finished a 9 hour drive to get to Oregon. We decided to stay close to our hotel. It would qualify as okay. However the server was outstanding. The food was average at best. And the wine list was poor. How can you be in Oregon wine country and have such a poor offering???? This is a gross disservice. Then we popped next door to check out the *night club* which was a bigger joke. They have the audacity to charge a cover to go into a room that would at best qualify as a warehouse. If you have low expectations this would be okay.

Very busy and people friendly. Wide variety of drinks and foods. Superb staff, knowledgeable and friendly!

We had lunch and breakfast, as well as cocktails, at this restaurant inside the Red Lion. The food was good-the portions are very large so it is quite cost-efficient. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The view of the river from the deck is lovely. As there is not much around the hotel, it's nice that this restaurant is so good.

good food and service with a great view of the river both by day and night with a nice selection on the menu .

This was the first time we'd eaten Christmas dinner in a restaurant. We prefer buffets for special occasions and chose this one because of the river view location. Dinner was good. No, it wasn't outstanding, and many of the dishes were sort of 'plain' food, but that was okay with us! They had the usual ham, turkey, prime rib plus some really scrumptious macaroni-n-cheese, great roasted veggies, peel-n-eat shrimp and much more I've forgotten. They also had a full selection of breakfast items (bacon, sausage, pancakes etc) which seemed a bit odd for Christmas dinner, but people were choosing them. I tried the sausage and it was excellent - very similar to British bangers. Price was $35 for adults and $30 for seniors. Service was a well-meaning but not very well trained eager young fellow. It's obvious the building is older, and perhaps is due for a remodel to refresh the decor, however, we thought the atmosphere was *extremely pleasant*. They were fairly busy but the dining room was quiet. There was a fellow playing the guitar -- again, quietly. We appreciate quiet dining! The tables are far enough apart that you don't feel you're eating with strangers. And the river view is lovely. This was a good choice for Christmas dinner :-)

The Jantzen Beach restaurant was convenient and the food was good. We shared burgers and beverages and tall tales, in the very clean Bar and Grill in the Red Lion.

We were not real hungry when we stopped off on the way to our room for just a snack. So we ordered light. My wife noticed that they served portobello mushrooms on some of their dishes, so she asked if she could get a side order of them. Sure. And we ordered their Calamari. Remember the crumbs at the bottom of a box of Crackerjack? Well, that was what we got. We order Calamari everywhere, and this was, hands down, the worst we have ever been served. I kid you not---one piece was the diameter of a soda straw. And it was greasy. The side of Portobello mushrooms? One. Count it. One mushroom about the size of a silver dollar. Yes, the grill has a great view. I would recommend it for drinks. The side of

The food was poorly prepared and priced far above what you would expect. Just another hotel restaurant.

We stopped for Happy Hour on a recent business trip and enjoyed it. The prices were pretty good and the view was pretty exceptional. The food we had that day was fine, and the service was very good. We were disappointed that they didn't have the patio cleaned off yet and it was a very nice day. Not sure if I would run back, but I would recommend going at least once.

Great wings and an awesome list of beers on tap. Never crowded but always a fun time. Service isn't great but that’s par for the course in Portland bars. A smile or a joke couldn't hurt the personality.

The food was good but not great. Some dishes were better than others; the deep fried fish (haddock, I think) was well received by those who ordered it. Service was rather slow, but the dining room was packed when we were there. The wait staff was friendly and helpful.

Loud karaoke spilling from the lounge/bar really dampened the atmosphere. We were at the other end of the restaurant and it was blaring. Mind you this was at 7p so the sound system should have been turned down for diners to enjoy the atmosphere and management should be aware of all patrons.. That said..Calamari appetizer was great, short ribs and baked ravioli entrees were good. Cheesecake dessert was a let down...View of Columbia River was amazing. If only we didn't have to listen to screeching wanna be singers

We were staying at the Red Lion and had dinner here twice. Both times I had fish & coleslaw. The fish was deep fried cod. It was pretty good because I was hungry but I've much better. The portion was quite large. The offer beer specials which are good.

nice to eat on site with great river views!!! good food, ok prices..If your staying in the hotel..so nice to eat somewhere decent and not have to drive there!

Had breakfast here with my daughters and we had great service with spectacular views. The food was good and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back and look forward to our next trip.

I have been to this restaurant before when they have the Christmas Ships and had a great meal. I decided to take my crew to this place because I moved my boat into the area.We tied up at the dock and went to lunch. They served the philly cheese steak sandwich with a salad on the same plate. They served entire leaves of butter lettuce and I was what the heck is this? I cannot cut this up? The server got very upset and sent the manager over saying we were swearing at her. That never happened and it was too bad because it put a down turn on a otherwise nice day. The food came out mediocre and the salad was butter lettuce with a few sliced radishes on it. My bloody Mary was $13 and was not very tasty. 5 people for lunch cost $124 for not very good food. . I

Very nice restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with happy hour specials. The Hotel also gives discounts for all meals when you stay . Stopped in for an ice cream snack with friends......soooooo yummy!!

The Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill is inside the Holiday Inn Portland - Columbia Riverfront. This is a full-service restaurant and bar. We dined at the Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill the evening prior to our river cruise on the Columbia. The menu was interesting ~ included northwest salmon fish & chips, blackened cod, shrimp alfredo, ribeye steak, porkchop, boneless beef shortribs, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, steelhead trout, and fancy mac & cheese (see attached menu pic for more detail - lots of interesting entrees to choose from.) I ordered the blackened cod on a ymmy roasted red pepper sauce and was served with couscous, spring vegetables and asparagus. My husband ordered the meatloaf served with mashed potatoes, gravy and seasonal vegetables. Both entres were nicely plated and the food was very good. Staff was friendly and attentive. The carpet needed a really good vaccum, but that seemed to be the issue with the entire hotel, not just the restaurant.

The decor and view in this restaurant are lovely. The name of the place does not do it justice. We tried to have a drink after dinner one night and were told that it was not a separate bar. We ate breakfast here and the food was good. The servers, although polite, seemed inexperienced.

We came to this restaurant because it was located on the water and had a great view. The food was adequate but the service was the worst I believe we have ever had. The server was extremely slow and did not know the menu. We asked for Moscow Mules, drinks common to the Western states and they did not have the ingredients. The server never came back to tell us this fact but our appetizer came, very average crab cakes, but still no drinks. My husband went inside to the bar and the bar tender explained they did not have ginger beer, the main ingredient in Moscow Mules. He ordered two glasses of wine and the bar tender indicated they would be delivered to our table....ten minutes later we asked a busser to get our wine which had been sitting at the bar. Fifteen minutes later our server brought our fish....very average. The server did not apologize for her lack of service, not bringing our drinks, or the lag in bringing our food. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, despite the view. The service was horrible and the food adequate. Very disappointed!

This restaurant is located at the Red Lion near the bridge that goes from Portland OR to Vancouver WA. It is on Hayden Island waterfront. The perfect place for a restaurant. At the time we visited at 2 PM Sunday it was slow and when we walked in had more staff than customers. With all that staff around one would think the service was good. Unfortunately it wasn't. We were there for a fast lunch with a view. What we got was the lunch that seemed to last forever.

I had the salmon and the rib eye. Normally one does not get excellent dining at a hotel restaurant, but this place is an exception. Fine bar as well. Sit out on the veranda. Lots of fun.

Server suggested the seafood curry rather than the scallops, so I obliged, but dish arrived with three shrimp, a few mussels, and no other fish. Some pieces of potato and grilled bread. Disappointing portion size for the price. Romaine salad was delicious. Wine pours are small.

We had lunch here on a Thursday afternoon while we were waiting for check-in time. Waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. Food did take longer than expected to arrive. Food was good, though not great. Nice view and pleasant atmosphere at this restaurant.

average food. we had a gluten free person with us and she felt that perhaps her GF meal had some contamination. There were 5 of us. 1 person did not like their meal. 3 people thought theirs was OK. 1 person did not like their meal at all.

We had Breakfast there twice and it was great. The Eggs Benedict With Crab cakes was good and the free continental breakfast that came with our stay at the Red Lion Hotel with the choice of bacon or sausage, eggs and hash browns and toast was excellent!!

Nothing really stood out except for the Eggs Benedict. There is one with Balsamic vinaigrette which was very tasty. Nothing else really stood out though.

After a science fiction convention at this hotel, we went into the bar/restaurant early Sunday evening. Sat by the window and watched the sun set over the Columbia river and Mt. Hood. We each had a 1/4 lb burger with fries. Burger was cooked as you like it and had lettuce, tomato, etc It was a good filling meal for $6 each. Also we each had a pint of craft beer. Total bill for two dinners and beer was $22. Very reasonable!

My wife and I ate in the restaurant several times while staying at the hotel while on a convention trip. I'll suggest to you that breakfast is better than dinner and dinner service really depends on your wait staff. Overall, the three breakfasts we ate here were great. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The Columbia Omelet has huge chunks of fresh salmon and great cheese inside. More salmon covers the outside. Dinner was good, but the second time we ate dinner, the service was NOT good. Our waitress was disorganized, flighty and confused. To her, everything was "valley girl" perfect and none of the bills were right. Sigh. All in all, I've found much better restaurant food across the planet, but in a pinch, this place will work.

We stayed at the hotel and so it was a convenient. As it was a very warm and sunny weekend we had two breakfasts on the patio overlooking the river. Too bad that the freeway is right next to the hotel and so there is a never ending buzz. The food was all good with nice portions. But nothing inventive or special.

The restaurant has big windows with a pretty view of the water. Menu doesn't have a lot of options for a meal-dinnner. It's better for appetizers and drinks. Soda is 3dls

Not crowded at 9am on a Saturday. Service was great, kids meals and my roast beef hash breakfast were just right. Fruit bowls were excellent.

The service seemed to be "first night on the job" but the food was well-prepared and presented. Sitting outside on a warm Oregon night by the river and eating a nice meal, yes, this is where you want to be..

Service was awesome! It was nice to enjoy lunch while looking at the boats go by on the river. The prices are reasonable with a full meal costing less than $20

This place could be such a solid five, but I have to go with three out of five. They DO have a kid's menu. I thought I was asking their private Q&A site about that and my question appeared on trip advisor. There seems to be no way to remove it from the trip advisor site. Seems like a wonderful hotel, and the restaurant is very good, but it's pricey, and I wasn't terribly impressed with my Portuguese Seafood Stew. I've been to Portugal and there ain't much of nothing quite like this dish. Go with a Hamburger. They do a good job with those.

We were there for a convention, and pretty much needed to eat on site in order to get to the panels we wanted to attend, so this seemed like a convenient option. It was expensive for what you got, and the corned beef hash came loaded with onions (not listed in the description) which was a hassle for my husband to pick out. I probably wouldn't eat there again, I'd pick up some breakfast sandwiches from Target and eat in my room with the fridge and microwave.

Food was standard American fare but prepared we and presented well. Came hot/fresh for both breakfast and breakfast. Would dine here again.

I went here for my birthday for the first time. The view was nice, but the hotel the restaurant is in looks like it's stuck in the 1980's. It took a considerable amount of time to get our food to the table. My food was luke-warm to cold, but because we waited for so long (and the restaurant was not busy) I went ahead and ate it because I was starving. The taste however, was surprisingly very good. I was disappointed there wasn't any bread served while you wait for your meal. The entree didn't include a salad, and since we waited a long time, the majority of our time spent in the restaurant was being hungry. The service was pleasant; not polished, but genuine. A little slow on refilling drinks, but nothing major. Not very personal, but still polite. I wouldn't go back here, only because nothing stood out as extraordinary. Our experience wasn't bad, it was just average. And for the price (which is not terribly expensive, but not cheap either) we would rather have a better experience.

Hotel restaurants have never wowed me, but after a full day of traveling it was a convenient option. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful river view. I had the hummus appetizer which was quite large and very good. They provided us with a children's menu which had several good options. Great wine list and yummy desert! Everyone was happy :)

Stayed at Red Lion Inn where this is located. We ordered a beer and a wine and while view was very good service was very poor and room was tired and in need of repair.

Absolutely delicious rib eye steak dinners, salads were great, and the crab cakes were to die for. However, unless you like Sicilian spicy lasagna, I would avoid the lasagna..but the steaks MORE than make up for the lasagna. Perfectly done steaks and crab cakes. Expensive, but well worth the bucks. Staff is great too!

I will be reviewing the Red Lion Jantzen Beach in a separate review, but needless to say, the restaurant was the best experience we had at the Red Lion. I dined at the restaurant for breakfast and lunch and both meals were well prepared and to order and served timely. The staff was very pleasant. Chris the manager/floor supervisor for the evening shift was quite helpful and on top of things. For breakfast I had their corn-beef and hash one morning, which was quite different from what I am accustomed to but quite good. Their version contains larger pieces of corn beef, new Yukon gold potatoes and poached eggs. For lunch I had their angus burger with fries. Both were cooked as ordered and were a high quality. My husband and I shared a mushroom tart for an appetizer which was fantastic. We were here for a convention, but it turned into a Pride Celebration for my husband and I. The staff was supportive of us and wonderful in this respect.

Stayed at this hotel and checked out the bar and grill. It was amazing, get the crab and shrimp cakes! And a Flight of beer you won't be disappointed.

i guess it depends on the staff, the breakfast lady was awesome. the dinner lady was good but seemed to disappear and the lunch guy needed to be found to get refills on my ice tea 3 different times. the food was good overall

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at this fine waterfront restaurant. Located on the 2nd floor of a fairly large Red Lion Inn the outside 2nd deck views are wonderful. The food and service were fine but the view seals the deal.

The restaurant is located inside the Red Lion Jantzen Beach and has a great view of the Columbia River. The food was good - we had soup and salads. I added steak to my house salad and it was a full meal with my cup of soup. Service was a little slow but when I am on vacation, that's not a big deal. It was convenient and it tasted good. I'd eat there again if we stay at the hotel.

The kids said that this was the best breakfast of the whole trip. Crispy hash browns, tasty ham, and perfect over easy eggs. The filet at dinner was outstanding. The flavor of the potatoes, kale, mustard seed, and horseradish was fantastic. Only complaint was not receiving a very rare steak. It was overcooked. But my medium was perfect. They kindly comped is a dessert for the steak issue.

This bar is located inside of the Red Lion Hotel. It has a beautiful view of the river and a very nice atmosphere. It has your typical selection of bar/restaurant food for a reasonable price given the location. The food was very good and the bar had a nice selection to choose from. The staff service was friendly and attentive.

Had a good time visiting this place again. We had a river view section while we dine in. Our server is attentive to our needs. We ordered our entree and drinks. Food is really good. We enjoyed our dinner while we relax and watching the sun goes down. Would come back again.

I had the scallops over a bed of creamed corn. It was fabulous. I also loved the breakfast menu and could get gluten-free options on request.

This place sneaks under the radar as it's in the Red Lion at Jantzen Beach. We have eaten here 3 times now, and every dinner was wonderful. I got the blackened shrimp risotto. It had fresh corn and arugula. The spicy of the shrimp and the sweet of the corn were a great balance. My hubby had the new york steak. It came with tiny potatoes and spinach. Good flavor and well cooked. Dessert was a salted caramel creme brulee.....YOWZA-----would order that again anytime. Try this place, I think you will like it! If you are staying at the hotel, its a no brainer. Our server was super nice, very helpful and friendly.

While at a conference in the hotel, three of sat down to have lunch in the restaurant. We all ordered the same thing and BLT with side salad. After we ordered, we were told it was going to take at least 30 minutes to get our meal. Since we were a "captive audience" we said okay. After waiting for 1 and a half hours, I asked to speak to the manager. He apologized and said they were busy and got behind. The restaurant at this point had 6 tables with people. Then they told us that only one sandwich had been made because they assumed that the other orders were duplicates. the sandwich that my friend received was untoasted and had the wrong dressing. When mine finally arrived in a to go box I just grabbed it and headed back to my conference. (The manager comped us the meal because it had taken so long.) My BLT had no dressing of any sort, just two pieces of bread, some turkey, a piece of bacon, a tomato slice and some butter lettuce. My side salad was three full size pieces of lettuce nothing else. I would you go elsewhere for lunch. Our conference has been held there for at least 7 years.

food and drinks were good, view incredible, peaceful and relaxing. like the hotel the restaurant is a little dated. it is fine just dated. big huge room where everyone has a view as the entire wall is glass overlooking river.

Was here for a Pilots Reunion over the weekend and had several occasions to frequent the Restaurant. Service and food are good...just pass on the Calamari....Burgers and Wings are a given....

Great food.Interesting choices. Try the pork shoulder, sounds gross but actually quite delicious. Breakfast also quite worth your while.

Was here on business and arrived later in the day after driving for about 4 hours. Just wanted something relaxing so ate at the hotel restaurant. For dinner, I had the special - this evening: halibut. Very well cooked, fresh. Came with pearl potatoes and zucchini. Also very good. I had the beer sampler - twice. Tried 7 different beers from the local area. Mostly IPAs but my favorite was the Lager and my least favorite was the Belgian-type Amber. I sat outside and enjoyed the pleasant breeze and perfect temperatures. Wait staff was very helpful but not overbearing. They were training a new person but was done very professionally (sometimes they will instruct a person in front of you, which I find unprofessional - go off to the side and review it out of earshot of the customer). I would definitely eat here again.

We met a friend here for lunch. The restaurant overlooks the river and draw bridges, the atmosphere is wonderful - we had a seat by the window which made lunch even more enjoyable on a very hazy day. The floor to ceiling windows made it seem as if you were dining outside. Great view. This restaurant is in the red Lion Hotel.

Not a big fan of Red Lion but thot I’d give this place a chance. View was a total pleasant surprise overlooking the Mighty Columbia River. 2 eggs, hash browns, sausage, wheat toast & side of bacon. Generic. Nothing artistic or inspired. Just basic solid bfast. Jellies on the table high quality great flavors. Potatoes were kind of a strange flat grated soggy w ketchup. Bacon was a sad thin 3 pieces of your expecting thick pepper bacon. Staff & service was excellent. Wud definitely come back just for the view. Big spacious dining w a wall of windows to the river.

Food was amazing and the servers were very nice and gave us an excellent service! There's an amazing view of Columbia river and its gorgeous during sunset esp with the view of the bridge as well. I highly recommend coming here!

So... the Holiday is coming up! You really want to get together with the family but you don't want to spend 2 days cooking and 3 days cleaning up listening to Uncle Bob tell those same old stories about his troubled youth!! Well... here you go bunkee! Go to the Jantzen Beach Bar and Grill at the Red Lion, we have done it for 3 major holidays and it is great... the ambiance is terrific, the staff is friendly and welcoming (Angelica is amazing) and the food is great... sure, you can cook at home but the JB Bar and Grill does it just as well with no hassle... everyone in your party can grab a place and serve themselves and if one of your bratty kids only wants to eat pumpkin let 'em!!! You would need to make reservations and the price is very fair... to be honest every time we go there we save hundreds so I really don't look at the bill! Take if from us... add years to your life and finally take an opportunity to enjoy the next holiday by being waited on... OH JOY!!

The hotel restaurant has a view of the river and it was a nice experience My friend had the pork chop and I had the Flank Steak salad. Both were delicious. I got a bit old by the window under the air vent

Over priced for the food, not a family friendly place. The food service took over an hour to get anything. The food was a bit greasy and the waiter had poor service. We would not eat here again. While there we saw two other families walk out after looking at the menu, we regret that we did not also. They will not be feeding to many with this service and price.

Jantzen BeachBar & Grill, provides best supporting waitresses and waiters, well trained team and management, a very balanced menu, and properly priced items.

We both started with the potato leek soup, and found it to be delicious. The ciabatta bread was a nice complement to it. Then my husband had the clam and chorizo dish, and I had the crab cakes. Both were way too salty. The wine list was reasonably priced.

My wife and I had dinner here while visiting Portland last week. Excellent pasta and generous pours from the bar. The view of the river looking over to Washington was a plus. Service was excellent. We will be back.

The menu has a good selection. The breakfasts were very good. The service was good and for each meal, the server was very accommodating with separate checks for our table. The outdoor seating on a nice day can't be beat.

Servers were wonderful. Restaurant has inside and outside seating. Located right on the Columbia River. Food is wonderful as well.

The food and service was good, although nothing spectacular. The view overlooking the river is very nice. Worth dinning here if you are staying at the hotel.

The food was outstanding, the drinks were great, and the staff was very good, most of the time. The views and outside access was very inviting.

The drinks and food were delivered promptly. When a drink refill was wrong it was quickly replaced. The food was enjoyable and the atmosphere was pleasant. A great place for a meal.

An evening out with friends, all of us visiting from out of town. Everything about the evening went well from online reservation for dinner, to drinks, appetizers, meal and deserts. Waitstaff was pleasant but straightforward. Helpful in explaining menu, options and in timely service. Meals were well prepared and tasty as expected. View over the river with snow topped Mt St. Helens in the distance fit with our early fall meal. I’d go back again when in the area. A nice option to driving to a downtown Portland eatery.

Some friends were staying in the Red Lion Hotel that houses the Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill and we joined them for breakfast. The view of the Columbia River was spectacular and the breakfast was both substantial and tasty. The Corned Beef Hash was the best that I've ever had! The wait staff was prompt and attentive.

Fish lunch was a bit sparse for the price but dinners were a real treat and cooked exactly as ordered.

Had breakfast here with a nice view of the Columbia River. I had the corned beef hash which was fantastic. Little higher priced than a place like IHOP but well worth the extra few bucks for the nice surrounding.

Few restaurants in this area so we selected this one. Big sign out front says Holiday Inn, but some maps say Red Lion. It’s the Holiday Inn River Front at 909 N Hayden Island Dr, Portland, OR 97217. Dining area is just off the lobby. Minimalist design, many round 4-chair tables. Little to no privacy in a large open area. 1/2 lb hamburger with sweet potato fries was pretty good ($18). Not so for the tomato soup and 1/2 Caesar salad - average at beast. Good and friendly service.

Lovely views of the river and bridge. The food was wonderful. Halibut & chips were lightly battered. The shrimp linguine was flavorful, loaded with bacon and delicious shrimp.

Too bad they allow baseball caps and guys with their pants down around their you know what because it's a really nice bar. They have a DJ and the music after about 10 p.m. sucked when we were there. We were staying at the Red Lion.

Ate here while staying at the hotel and the food was outstanding. Breakfast service I found a bit odd since I had to ask the waiter/waitress each morning to bring coffee - it was never offered. While it's pricey, it's definitely not unreasonable. Good liquor selection and excellent dishes made from local ingredients.

We ate here two times during our stay in Portland. My wife enjoyed her meals, me not as much. On consecutive nights, my wife ordered a virgin margarita and was served drinks with alcohol.

Food was fantastic, and the view was the best I have ever experienced during any dining experience. My Mom and I enjoyed the view every morning because they always let us in early and let us sit at our favorite table while drinking our purchased coffee from the lobby. Every server we had was the best! Such a lovely place!

We stayed at the Red Lion and this was so convenient for easy dining. Our breakfast each day was outstanding and our service was good.

Large group arrived for dinner with little notice. We were accommodated. The servers were very attentive. Appetizers were delicious and fast, we had the satay chicken and calamari. Food was also quite good and arrived quickly. My one complaint was that the olive relish was cold sitting atop my hot halibut and I didn't care for it at all.

My husband and I met up here with visiting family that was staying in the hotel. We had drinks and ordered desserts. My very favorite dessert ever is creme brûlée. It did not disappoint! Soooo good!

We wanted to eat lunch along the Columbia. Perfect spot as we were staying on Hayden Island and walked here. Food was ok. We had soup and a appetizer. Waitress said soup was a corn bacon chowder. Came the table and it was a clam chowder. Ate it anyways. Ok, but not my taste in cuisine. Sat, ate, had a cocktail and watched one of the paddle boats from American Cruise Lines dock and unload passengers. Nice area to watch the river activities. Minus being under the flight path for planes leaving PDX. Quite noisy. Yes, we sat outside.

Great food. Try to pork or large house salad. They make a great gin martini, too. The view of the river is wonderful day or night but during the day in particular expect a lot of low flying airplanes to pass overhead.

The restaurant is very cool sitting right next to the Columbia river. The food is very good. I just wish they were a few more options on the menu, there selection is a little on the limited side. And price is concerned it is close comparison to a normal sit down dining experience.
Too rushed
We had a 5 minute wait as it wasn't yet that busy. Very friendly staff who wanted to make sure your dining experience was good. The view of the river, paddle wheeler, marina is lovely and you can also sit outside. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer and gave our dinner order to our server. No sooner had we taken just a few sips of our wine/beer than our dinner arrived! It didn't feel like we'd had a chance to relax and unwind after a busy day. It just felt that we were being hurried along, although the Dining Manager did stop at our table to ask us how we were enjoying our meal. We did say it was alright. Husband ordered the Fish and Chips which showed up as Fish Nuggets. My pasta salad was warm, not hot. We did go for breakfast the next morning and it was very good. Our breakfast server was quite witty and very welcoming to us. And it turns out our dinner server from last night was also on duty for breakfast.
