Visited on a Saturday afternoon. The sticky rice had virtually nothing inside it. You have limited options on the cart. Mostly you have to special order. The food was not cooked well and the taste was not the best. I tried their Chinese broccoli, shrimp balls, steamed pork buns, sticky rice, red bean fried sesame balls. Didn't have beef noodle rolls or noodle plates on cart. Cleanliness was an issue too.

This restaurant has a split personality...I've been eating here with my family for more than 10 years; however, the "very good" rating that I gave this restaurant primarily reflects the quality of the dim sum. To prepare yourself for this restaurant, you need to understand the unique experience of eating in an authentic dim sum establishment. Be prepared for many rolling carts filled with small portions of many Chinese appetizers, and know that you'll be surrounded by many large Asian families, which is a sign of a highly regarded Chinese restaurant. It's easy to over-order and run up a major-league billl, so be patient and look carefully at the food on the carts before deciding which delicacies to order.I've been less impressed with the entrees which, wihile tasty, are expensive and don't represent a reasonable value. Come here for the dim sum (from around 11:00 AM to about 3:00 PM), but look elsewhere at dinnertime.

Unlike most Dim Sum places, Jasmine still pushes their carts through the dining room. I love being able to see the items and let my eye do the ordering. Having grown up in San Francisco, I’ve been accustomed to regular dim sum brunches throughout each year. I’m not going to compare Jasmine to the restaurants in San Francisco, so it’s going to get 4 stars from me for dim sum in San Diego. The selection is vast and the flavor & quality is good - definitely satisfies my dim sum cravings (and those of my guests). Service is quick, not bad, but not great... inconsistent is the best way to put it. The ladies pushing the carts are always very friendly and helpful, it’s the service staff that isn’t always good. I should not have to speak in Cantonese to get better service and I shouldn’t have to ask the Latino busers to get fresh sliced jalapeños (the Chinese workers would tell me they don’t have it, as I look at the slices on the food item I just got from the cart). Overall, it’s the better dim sum spot in San Diego and I go for the dim sum, not the jalapeños (or service).

We have been coming here for years and 90% of the time every thing is great. Get there after 11 AM for better selection, but before noon the beat the crowd. Parking can be a problem especially on the weekend. When busy 30-60 minute waits are normal. If you go when there is an event, i.e. a Dragon Dance, waits can be 2-3 hours! The carts come quickly and we always "load-up" our table for snacking later at home. Service is efficient and not as AGGRESIVE as some other Dim Sum places we have tried.

I've been to Jasmine many times for Dim Sum. It is probably the most popular Dim Sum restaurant in San Diego. If you want to go here on the weekend, come early or be prepared to wait. Many of the servers do not speak a lot of English, so you will need to point and gesture to get what you want. But it is worth it. A lot of the dishes are very, very good, especially the duck, sticky rice, har gow, sesame balls, and many others. Jasmine also has a takeout window in case you want to get some dim sum to go. This is a great place to go with a group of friends for brunch on the weekend.

Been going to Jasmine's Dim Sum for years, and always made it our first stop when getting to San Diego. In the beginning, it offered a good variety of dishes of excellent quality with authentic cart service. However, over the last few years ... we go to San Diego a couple of times a year ... the deteriorating quality of their food brings us to the point of crossing Jasmine off our list and looking for another Dim Sum restaurant in the area.

their dim sum has gone downhill thru the years

Compared to similar restaurants in Southern California, this place is a bargain. In fact, similar dishes in a less impressive environment within walking distance don't meet the same measures of quality, service and cost. In addition to the uncommon unique seafood options, they serve all the traditional plates in both small (2-3) and large (4-6) portions. Parking is plentiful and the entrance is on what appears as the back from Convoy St. (Don't be confused by the large lions on the street...there are two more lions in back at the actual entrance)

If you follow my reviews, you’ll know that Dim Sum places I tend to gravitate to. No one I have found in the U.S. so far matches the places I have frequented in HongKong. This restaurant is as close to a match than any I have found stateside. Their food is always fresh, the service is great, the variety is outstanding. I have found it always busy. You can’t go wrong here. Also the parking is a plus in this part of town.

Vacationing in San Diego and wanted to have dim sum. Since we had a big group, we figured Jasmine would be a good choice since it is spacious. The food is fine, nothing to rave about, but the service is terrible. There was a bug in my water and when we asked for another glass, there was no apology. When we asked for spring rolls, we were given cold spring rolls....Obviously they were left over from the night before (we were there a few minutes after the restaurant was opened to avoid the crowd). There were waiters and waitresses walking around the restaurant but few came to ask if we needed anything. A waste of money and time.

Jasmine's offers a wide range of items on menu and the food is divine. I had the best Garlic Chicken ever!

This place is HORRIBLE, the food is not any better and it's overpriced. The WORST customer service ever, just wasn't worth the wait for the food. Stay away from this place even if you can speak Chinese.

please check your bill. carefully. i do not want this to happen to others. i thought it was overpriced so when i checked the bill after my first visit, i noticed they charged me for an extra item that we did not have (about $10). i thought it was an honest mistake and let it go. on this second vist (and my last), they did the exact same thing and when i called them on it the waiter was extremely rude and defensive, went around the restaurant asking the cart ladies if they overcharged us (as if one of them will admit to such a wrongdoing). basically they tried to cause a scene in an attempt to get us out of there. i stood my ground, and they eventually relented and credited out card. with some patrons they calculate the bill right at the table and with others they calculate it at the register. i can't help but think that they may be doing this on a systematic basis, targetting those who may not be regulars or who they think may not catch it. Rude serive I can stand, dishonesty I can't.

Service was not bad but the food was rather average. We had Dim Sum and Beef with Rice Noodle as well as Chicken Sweet Corn Soup. Only the Beef with Rice Noodle was pleasant. All the others were very plain. As for freshness, it was average. Not a restaurant that I'll be eager to return. To sum it all up ' I had Better.'

The food served was of decent quality. I recommend the dim sum cart with the bean curd, shomai, ha kao and the pork buns. The banana leaf with rice inside is also good. Nothing much to complain about, a paid parking around the restaurant and a bit over priced for the quantity given/served.

Have experienced the best dim sum San Francisco can offer, I must say that Jasmine delivers. Fantastic freshness. One can order direct from the kitchen or the circulating food carts. Bean curd rolls, siu mai, har gaw, sticky rice, ham siu gok, bbq rice noodle, spicey egg plant all well executed, fresh, savory and hot. The perfect dim sum lunch in a typical Chinese setting. I'll be back for sure!

This is your typical carted Dim Sum place but we went there on a Saturday night and tasted their a la carte menu. Overall very solid and authentic Chinese Cantonese food. Their Cantonese sautée lobster with ginger and scallion was very well executed. We also enjoyed their whole steamed cod fish with ginger, scallions and soy sauce which was perfectly cooked. The service was also surprisingly good. My wife wanted a glass of Chardonnay and they brought us a glass that was at room temperature and flat on the nose. When I spoke to the server he apologized and let me select a bottle that he put in a full bucket of ice with some salt. Here we go this is the right way to serve chilled Chardonnay! So not a fancy place but the service is decent and gets better if you ask for help and it is always full of local Chinese so it must be a good sign. For the parking we found a spot in the parking lot and paid $3 for three hours.

Went to have Dim Sum and a recent night only to discover it is only served for lunch. They have a few Dim Sum items on the dinner menu and we tried 3 of them. For the most part there were OK. I imagine the Dim Sum is better during the lunch serving time. We order the fried chicken which was a half chicken cut up and it was not that special. It was dry and tasted very salty. Based on my experience I would not be in a big hurry to go back here although I might try the Dim Sum at lunch time.

I had chance to come Convoy street where have a lot of restaurant and looking for restaurant on tripadvisor then i have decided to get chinese cuisine that call Dim Sum . The food was very delicious and really enjoyed the food with chinese tea. High recommened

Business lunch....found this restaurant while looking for another in the same complex. This was an excellent choice. Large portions...reasonable prices...very tasty food. Pork dumplings and pot stickers were excellent. We shared the orders for variety and also enjoyed Won Ton Soup.

Dim Sum is good but service is horrible on weekends. All three time I have been I have had to almost serve myself and guest.

Jasmine is an interesting, unique Chinese restaurant located among many Asian food establishments in an uninspiring semi-industrial section of San Diego. Interesting because a small, but active, shopping center housing a variety of Asian markets, casual eating establishments, and other types of businesses sits adjacent to its large building. Unique because Jasmine is a huge restaurant specializing in fabulously elaborate Asian weddings. One such wedding was taking place when we visited. In years past diners were seated to the rear of the restaurant while the wedding festivities took place front and center. It was quite a show to see platter upon platter of delectable dishes served to guests. Most spectacular was the noisy arrival of a long sinuous dragon heralded by a costumed reveler clanging cymbals. Now, however, diners sit in a garish walled-off section of the dining room. Because it is understandable that the wedding superceded the attention given to ordinary diners, I suggest visiting when no wedding is scheduled. Smaller than dinner-size plates of food are served to diners; my husband and I shared a scallop with mixed vegetable dish, and, while tasty, was rather expensive at $20. Our won ton soup, which was fair to good was $3.99 a bowl. The house Chardonnay was suitable and reasonable at $5 a glass. Small bowls of white rice are about $2 each.

Recent Changes: 1. Waiting is considerably reduced, making reservations helps too 2. Parking could be done behind Jasmine express or even near Car Max have overflow parking 3. Only meet eaters please, not even much Chicken choices 4. 8 of us paid $150, ate well 5. Always go with Cart items not from the Menu unless you are very sure. 6. Take someone who knows Chinese, if not pray and order 7. Best Dim Sum in San Diego Must go there at least once for the experience

This is an authentic restaurant. It's been here for quite some and remains true to its classic Asian roots. I love the dim sum served everyday. Dinners and lunches also include very traditional dishes and a great variety of them. The wait staff is patient and has great knowledge of the menu. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a good dinner at reasonable prices.

this is the best Chinese restaurant in San Diego for Dim Sum in the afternoon and fresh seafoods for dinner. I love Dungeness crab when I visit US. The restaurant run out of the Dungeness crab and send someone to the market to find it is available. It is this kind of service that motivate me to write a review for this restaurant. For food I liked the Steam live fish which is not to be missed. Fresh shrimp is also very good, if you do not mind paying a bit more. Roast duck and stirred friend green veggie were also excellent. Plenty of parking and conveniently located.

The food was terriable and there was no service to even speak of. DO NOT even try it!

Dim Sum is hard to find just anywhere and good Dim Sum is even harder. Jasmine's is THE place to find really good Dim Sum in the San Diego area. We go there every time we are in the city to visit family which is not often enough! Everybody knows it's good and it gets crowded quickly. So go early and hungry because it is cart after cart of wonderful mouth watering delicacies! If they would add traditional "fried" chicken feet to the extensive menu selections I would go to 5 stars! Jasmine's provides very good service for the large number of people seated at any one time. Too bad they only serve Dim Sum on Saturday & Sunday. I guess that makes it all the more special!

My mom and I came here for dinner Friday night a bit late. The place is huge but was not packed. We ordered pork chop with spicy salt, salted fried rice, and Mongolian beef. Everything was excellent. We requested for all the food to be cooked with the least amount of oil possible and they accommodated our request. We truly enjoyed our dinner so we came back the following day for dimsum. The place was packed! Luckily we didn't have to wait long. Dimsum dishes had good flavor and price is fair. We were again very full and very happy that we came to this place.

Visiting the area with my family. I usually frequent dim sum in Phoenix or las vegas...i was suprised by the prices. The dim sum was ok. Definitely satisfied my cracing. Probably will not be back.

Wanted to give Jasmine Chinese a try after reading the reviews. Stopped in solo on night after working and ordered three main dishes with a plan to have Chinese leftovers the next day. I ordered General Tso's Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, and Chinese Broccoli. The service was reasonably quick, no complaints there but the attitude was awful. I ordered $55 dollars of main dishes but did not get any rice? I asked the very rude waitress "doesn't this come with rice" to get a sour "No" I could not believe this so I asked a man who appeared to be the Mgr. or owner and he said steamed rice cost extra? $1.69 for a single small bowl of steamed rice after ordering $55 dollars of main dishes. I don't think so and I would not go back. Buy the way the food was average at best!

Well here is a Chinese Restaurant where lots of people have Party’s and Banquets !! Food is good also !! One of the more popular Restaurants in San Diego !! Parking is a Pain !! 2.00 Dollars an hour !! Pay at Machine !!

Multiple visits over the years for excellent Dim Sum lunch. Pay parking in newly-constructed parking structure just to the East corrects previous serious parking problem. You go to Jasmine for the Cantonese food, not the ambiance. Fast, efficient service, or you may linger over a meal and never feel rushed. Cavernous building with many, many tables. Sometimes, smaller sections are screened off for private events. Tables spaced for semi-privacy. White table linen, but paper napkins. Comfortable, padded chairs. Small dishes are offered table-side on small rolling carts, fresh from the kitchen. It's like a buffet that comes to you! Select which ones you want and the server makes a "chop" mark on your ticket. Menu items each have a price but there is no menu; your orders are summed up and delivered as a bill at the end of the meal. Wide variety of items, from vegetables to sea food to meats. Sea food and meats typically are served in bite-sized chunks, often with a thin covering. Sometimes it is challenging to understand the serving ladies as they describe what each item is, but be adventuresome! (See favorite list below.) We never have had a bad meal there! High proportion of Asians dining there suggests that this food is indeed authentic. Dinner also served (from a menu). Check out the Chinese antique and artifact display in the outer lobby. On a recent visit, we mistakenly left our take home food on the table. A staff member came out to the parking garage with the package, hunted us down and delivered it to us. Thanks!

We tried to get into this place recently for lunch. The street parking for several blocks around was taken or restricted, and the small parking structure that you have to pay for in back was packed with vehicles trying to get in and out. After seeing no less than two fender benders happen right in front of us between vehicles trying to back out of or pull into spaces, we left. Parking in this largely commercial/industrial area is a complete nightmare and we don't plan on coming back no matter how good the food might be. It isn't worth the stress or vehicle body work we will need to have done.

Great spot for authentic Dim sum. A few tips - 1) pay the couple bucks to park upstairs and avoid the congested parking lot, 2) ask the waiter for any specific dishes you might want so you do t have to wait for the cart to show up, 3) try and get seating in the center aisle - if you get seated way in the back or on the sides you will get stuff that’s been picked over and/or cold. Have fun!

Was there on a Saturday around 11:30am, the day before Chinese New Year celebration. I expected a long wait, but we waited only about ten minutes for a table of two. We must have been in a good location as a cart passed us almost every minute. My favorite dim sum was the vegetable dumpling. I usually look forward to the shrimp roll in the dim sum restaurant I frequent the most (Artesia), but here the dough was too loose and not great. Overall, though, we enjoyed our meal and will return, mostly likely mid-week when it's not so busy.

We eat here every Christmas Eve or Day. Its great. Good selection of food - dim sum is served for lunch which is a different experience. Carts with small tasting plates are served. We have had these and very yummy. Signature dishes include the Peking Duck. The accommodate very large groups and take reservations.

One of the only places I know of to go for dim sum in San Diego. I've heard Pearl in RB is better but haven't tried yet. This place is ok.

We had dinner there on a Saturday and really enjoyed the food and service. We had the Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp and Scallops along with fried rice and Bok Choy. We order hotness level 4 and 5. The levels were not overpowering - could have gone to level 6 and still would have been very good and not lose the taste of the chicken, shrimp and scallops. We had leftovers and will serve us for the next day

Best dimsum around! Great service and great food! We have been to other places and hands down this is the ONE! Come early to avoid long waits on weekends.

This is a great place to get dim sum, which I think is above average in terms of selection and quality. The restaurant is spacious and has a nice ambiance. The dim sum price is reasonable.

Jasmine's Dim Sum is great! (But dinner is not worth it)

Dim sum is good here. The items are numerous and the quality is excellent. Mostly Chinese clientele and some local cognoscenti. This is the real deal. Items are served at the right temperature also. Parking was crowded despite two big lots but turnover is swift. We were there on Friday and it was a great dim sum meal.

Second visit. Love the dim sum carts. Brought my 9yo sons and the carts and little dim sums and wonton soup was a hit with them to. Good was perfectly prepared and fresh as can be at lunch time. We ordered almost all kinds of shrimp dim sum and the wonton soup. Expect 4 large dumplings in the soup with perfectly cooked bok choy

Excellent, fresh dim sum served in the traditional cart style. Fresh shrimp and other shellfish dumplings, buns, etc. and a range of other classic dim sum dishes. Menu service also available for such items as soup- also best hot and sour soup in greater San Diego region. Best be wary of the 12:00 to 1:00 pm lunch hour, however, as place fills to capacity fast and parking is very, very limited.

Came here for dim sum twice and dinner during our last trip. Dinner was very good. We opted for fresh seafood - Chinese style. The lobster with ginger and scallions were excellent. The Peking Duck was as good as what we've had in San Francisco. Dim Sum was kind of hit and miss. Where you sat in this large hall determined how your experience will be. On our second trip, we must have sat at the end of the cart route since most of the items were gone by the time it reached us. The staff would be happy to get items for you, just need to ask them. Dim Sum was not as good as in SF, but it'll do. Overall, we were quite happy with the dining experience and food. It does get filled up quickly on weekends and parking at the lot can be challenging.

If you would like to have dinner where the wait staff would rather be anywhere else but taking care of you, then Jasmine is the place to go. The food is fair to adequate, at best, but the staff is definitely rated unacceptable. We ordered food that never appeared (dumplings). After 3 inquiries about the order, and a request to cancel twice, it finally appeared after we finished dinner. Over the years every time that I have eaten at Jasmine, I always feel the same disinterest and disrespect, and I swear I will never return - but return I do. I keep trying. But I finally realize I do not have to dine where I feel that the restaurant does not want my business or to take the time to wait on me. Unfortunately, I am sure that my complaints will fall upon disinterested ears, just like the disinterest of the staff and management. With all the new and excellent Asian restaurants in the area, and within close walking distance, Jasmine has to get their act together or they will definitely not survive.

First piece of advice, get there early. We arrived at 1115 (they open at 11) and had to wait a half hour. Not a problem at all. We were there for lunch so we could experience the dim sum and it was totally worth it. Some of the best eggs rolls I have ever had. I was seriously impressed at the quality and taste and will def be back if I am ever in the San Diego area again

I saw the sign that says NOW OPEN, I went in and smelled a very nice shish kabob being cooking. I tried their appetizers. They have the best Falafel and Shawerma I have ever eaten. I talked to the owner, they said they get the best/cleanest meat. No by product, vege fed.....etc.

On Saturday evening we tried to make reservations but we're told it was not possible. We arrived at 5:45 and was told it would be a 20 minute wait. Finally 1 hour and 20 minutes later after being told numerous times we were next, we were seated. In the meantime we could see many empty tables which we were told are being cleaned. After we were seated we noticed food on the flooright which we asked the waiter to clean. It took another 15 minutes to place our order and another hour to finally get our soup. After many request and asking to speak with the manager we finally received our dinner. We had special friends joining us and planned for a good dinner and relaxation and good conversation. Turns out to be very stressful very poor service. If we were told when we entered the restaurant the wait was going to be an hour we would have gone elsewhere. Would not recommend this restaurant. Too many other great friendly excellent restaurants in the area.

Nothing beats California Dim Sum. The selections were very good. Pork buns were the highlight. They restaurant was large and not very cozy. I recommend for lunch before 2. We were practically kicked out at 2:30.

I love this place. Their dim sum is great, but actually their dinner menu is even better.

The place is huge and the food is very good and cheap if you choose from the carts that pass by your table. If you want, you can order "a la cart", but it is going to be very expensive. From the different things in the carts, you are going to like some and dislike some, but follow your instincts.

This is a place with cart service, so you can better pace your eating, but not everything may get to you. It also seems like they will seat however many people arrive--some places only seat entire party. Har Gow are very nice. The shrimp aren't asked by cornstarch the wrappers are a touch on the thick side but weren't over steamed to the point of rubberiness. The Xiao Long Bao are excellent. Best I've had in SD. Nicely filled with a mouthful of soup and a very nicely flavored filling. The wrappers were perfect and stood up to a few minutes on the table without getting hard. The filling is gingery and didn't need the usual vinegar/ginger accompaniment, but I wished it had been offered. These are worth driving here to savor. You cannot count on them being on carts, so order when you sit down --10 min wait. XLBs are what I've missed the most, so a thrilled to have found a place that does them as well as some of the best places in San Gabriel Valley. The Peanut Pork dumplings were the losers. Larger and gummy wrappered, the taste was more fishy than pork There are three kinds of Shu Mai. The best are the shrimp with large pieces of slightly sweet shrimp and a thin wrapper. The dark meat chicken were flavorful and offset with peas. The pork were very flavorful but not mixed with shrimp. The little dots of roe had received enough heat (steam?) to be cooked, something if not seen before. The flat filled noodles are never a favorite of mine anywhere. The roast pork here were fine, definitely tasted the roast pork, but as always the proportion of noodle to filling was too heavily noodle

Have been wanting to try this place as I love Dim Sum. I was pleased to see they come around with different carts with fried, steamed, deserts and various items. I was pleased with the Har Gow and Shu Mia. It was very high priced, had maybe 5 tins of dim sum, and medium saki ($10) and the bill came to over $50. Will go again as I have yet to find a new Dim Sum restaurant since the best one closed years ago that was on W. Point Loma Bvd

Excellent dim sum/Chinese food spot on Convoy Street! The dim sum is fairly priced and is delicious. The crowds are immense because the quality of the dim sum and the duck is superb. Be prepared to prowl for parking because this place gets packed.

While visiting my sister, we decided on dim sum for lunch. We considered two other restaurants but opted to try Jasmine. We were seated right away & the dim sum carts arrived. There was a nice selection to choose from. The Chinese broccoli, baked pork buns, & pineapple bread were tasty and worth ordering. I have had excellent dim sum in Las Vegas, Hong Kong, & KL so it is hard not to compare what we ate at Jasmine with those. While Jasmine's dim sum is decent, it in no way compares with others I have had. Restaurant service was good.

Always enjoy the dim sum variety and Jasmine is a well-known and visited site. The carts and servers are always quite accommodating. I try any of the dishes, but generally defer to guests or newcomers to avoid freaking them out, but I enjoy all of the dishes I have eaten. I wish I knew the options better for my own ordering purposes, but have a wide list of dishes I look for and enjoy. Love the option to get a few items to go at the adjoining shop. Have tried to bring kids here to show them the style of cuisine and expand their palate. Mixed success, but they enjoyed it and the staff was great.

Terrible service. We were a party of four, arrived there around 6:30. Place had maybe 6 occupied tables. We waited and waited, nobody came to our table. Finally someone came and we asked for water and tea. Shortly after we ordered. We ordered a large soup; it was brought to the table but without bowls to put the soup in. We asked for hot sauce- were told they don't have any. Our table didnt have a soy sauce bottle, we had to get one from another table. Then food arrived, but not the rice; took awhile to get that. We asked again for hot sauce and we finally got some. Food was a 3 out if 5; service was totally unacceptable. It would have been unacceptable if restaurant was full; but it wasn't. A lot more people came later around 7:30 and were treated very well. Most seem to be Asian people. We were not!! Disgracefull to be treated like that. We have been at this restaurant before, awhile ago and experienced poor service. Will not go back there.

Took a drive down to San Diego from LA and decided to fall for the hype of Convoy Street. There are a lot of choices so choosing a place is kind of hard. We saw some reviews for this place and decided to check it out. The food was good, not out of this world but good. Again, there are too many places to choose, so I wish you luck.

This place is whatevers. It's edible, but not exactly the place you'd want to get some dim sum ..

We have eaten here regularly for many years, however our visit this week was a far cry from the past. The first surprise was paid parking. The second was a dining room 1/3 full instead of packed as most days. That resulted in what clearly were left-over items from previous days: broccoli that was cold, tough and inedible; pot stickers also cold and skins too tough to cut much less eat; beef riblets also cold and tough. Unfortunately something terrible has gone wrong which appears to be destroying their business. We can only hope it gets corrected. It previously was a happy, noisy place--no more.

We have been here a few times & this time was the worst. The waitress does not speak english I asked for a bourbon splash with soda & was brought a full glass of boubon. I had to give this back to them. I asked for silverware & was given the dirtest knife & fork. I called over the head waiter & said to him do you give all you customer's flatware that looks like this. I should have walked out. The food was OK I didn't get sick overnite. Items are overpriced. This will be The Last Time coming here.

We went to this restaurant on Christmas Day - as is our custom back home in the Washington DC area... We waited in line for an hour to place an order for take out food -- sit down service was an hour plus wait -- and another 20 minutes for our take out order. The price was $75 to feed 4 people and the taste was only mediocre. The ribs were cut wrong - not like individual ribs- which made them hard to eat. The staff was abrupt and rude and once we got home we realized the order was incomplete and wrong. Most likely this was due to the very crowded and loud waiting area and poor English communication. Bottom line -- an annual tradition resulted in a lot of disappointment and frustration.. Avoid this place if you expect a good dining experience.

This place has a good local reputation, and is well patronised by local Chinese. We found the food good, the helpings very large, but the service mediocre, and certainly not up to the usual American standard we have come to expect in California. The honey walnut shrimp was excellent, but one helping was enough for two people. The lemon chicken was also far too much for one person. Surprisingly the only rice side dish was steamed - no fried rice except as a main dish. We were also charged for an extra rice that we did not ask for. Worth going for the food, but be on your toes, and do't accept poor service.

While on weekly erranding on San Diego's Convoy Street, I decided to forego my usual stop at a fast food joint, and splurged on a dim sum lunch at Jasmine. I'd been there once before, 10 years ago, for a Chinese New Year celebration. This time, it was several plates of dim sum, and it was delicious -- fresh, hot, and nicely presented. A little pricey, but thoroughly enjoyable. And I was made to feel comfy as a single diner.

The place is always crowded. Parking is very hard to find even with the new parking structure. The food is OK. We had DIM SUM here a couple times already.

There are other places I have been including Emerald and Pearl, and honestly I cannot say that Jasmine's is significantly better but it is our main place to go for dim sum. I do have to say that timing can be everything. I've come here nearly weekly for the last five years and sometimes you can come and the food is in process of being replenished and you might have to wait a few minutes. And I must admit sometimes I cannot figure out how they decide to move the carts around or seat people. But regardless of all those things, the food is good and that's the most important thing. I love that there is a Jasmine Express outside so when I am in a hurry I can get takeout dim sum.

We have been coming here for years. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here 16 years ago. Fantastic fresh out of the tanks seafood. My one son's favorite is black bean crab, and the other is the Peking Duck. Fresh fish is another wonderful dish. Also serves dim sum during the lunch hours. We come here at least once every time we make it back to San Diego to visit family.

We wanted Chinese food so I check Tripadvisor found this place, I love Dim Sum, hubby not so much, but you can order from the kitchen so this is a win-win. We get to the place, it's not crowded at all, but we stood at the check-in desk for about 5 minutes before we were seated (first clue) was seated and waited about 20 minutes for someone to come and get our order (2nd clue) the service, older gentlemen slightly bald who is Asain and very unfriendly comes and takes our order. I asked about the Dim Sum, was told that Dim Sum is only for Lunch, but they have limited items on the menu. When I asked more question you can tell this guy wasn't happy. So we ordered me Crispy Fried Chicken, hubby Sweet, and Sour Chicken, Lo mein pork. Hubby ordered Won Ton soup which was excellent, and I ordered the Shrimp Mu Sui which was also excellent. The food never came out together, soup, then 5 minutes later my Shrimp Mu Shi, about 15 minutes later the Port LoMein came out, 2 minutes later my Crispy Fried chicken and 5 minutes later Sweet and Sour chicken. Would have been nice if things came out together. The food was good, nothing over the top, had better in China. But my biggest issue is the lousy service and no Dim Sum. No place on their website does it say that Dim Sum is only served at lunch.....

We went to Jasmine for dim sum.they have the traditional carts off dim sum that goes around. It is very popular and the line starts growing quite early do be prepared to wait. The food is pretty standard and is decent by San Diego standards. However be warned that there is no good Chinese food around here

I have been to this restaurant almost every year I visited friends in the San Diego area. They serve the traditional Cantonese style seafood which is the best among all Chinese regional foods. This time, for the three of us, we ordered two lobsters in ginger and scallion sauce, a big steamed fish ( not sure.. Red Cod?) and sugar pea sprouts. They were all very good. The way it supposed to be. The three of us wolfed everything down. The dessert of red bean soup was on the house. Very good indeed. Parking was a bit tough finding spot in the parking lot. We had to park a block away.

The food at Jasmine is very good. However they didn’t include any rice with their takeout, which I thought was odd for a Chinese restaurant. The food was pretty pricey compared to other restaurants but we did enjoy the Mapo Tofu and Chow Mein that we ordered.

The dining room is giant, and fairly stark, like the ballroom at a hotel. All of our food was delicious - the crispy tofu dimsum, the orang peel chicken, and general Tsa's chicken. The entree servings were enough for three or four, so my wife and I should have brought friends. The price for a lunch serving of orange peel chicken was sixteen dollars, without rice, which we find expensive. In addition, all of the wait staff is Chinese, as are most of the customers. My wife and I had the same feeling that we did when we first tried Jasmine several years ago, that the wait staff is less enthusiastic about serving caucasions than they are at serving Chinese. So we won't be returning, but instead will go to the Dumpling Inn one block away, half the price, just as delicious, and enthusiastic color-blind staff.

This is a favorite among the ethnic Chinese community in San Diego. The dim sum and Chinese cuisines served here are unquestionably authentic Cantonese. Moreover Jasmine is now, as of this writing, the only Chinese dum sum restaurant that still serves dim sum on push carts and most of the servers are conversant in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. IMHO the quality of food here is arguably comparable with many of those in 80 percentile in LA Chinatown or Monterey Park which is pretty good any given day. With China Max tragically burned down a couple years ago, Pearl permanently closed, Emerald under new management bringing lower quality than before, Jasmine thankfully is able to generally preserve its quality since the ‘golden age’ of dim sum here in San Diego when these 4 Chinese restaurants were at their prime about a decade ago. Jasmine does have a take out section to the side of its main restaurant where you can order dim sum to go.

Jasmine Chinese Seafood restaurant is located in a very large space and serves authentic Hong Kong style buns and dumplings. Our daughter's friend came down from Los Angeles and we met here to share a meal. The service is fast moving, with carts filled with a wonderful selection of dim sun. They also have a menu where you can order traditional meals. Lots of fun, great food.

Best traditional Cantonese dim sum. They still have the little carts with food inside. Hong Kong don't even have those any more... most go!

We ate twice in this restaurant in one week during my stay in San Diego. It offers decent Cantonese food.

Great selection of dim sum with the uniqueness of having food trolleys which is so rare to find these days. keeping with tradition and maintaining consistently fresh and delicious food. slightly pricey but worth it for the overall experience.

Authentic and delicious dim sum as expected— almost every item we chose was among the best we’ve experienced in over 30 years of enjoying dim sum. The service was simply impeccable. Great conversation with one of the staff and the owner, both of whom set the tone for the West Coast / Hong Kong style dining experience we had hoped for, and received. Should we return to the area for future USMC-related activities, we will absolutely revisit. Note that they have a takeaway service site (Jasmine Express) next door — the main restaurant does dine-in only.

On January 24, 2014, around noon, we ordered pork chops and fish from the menu. Both were substantially less than expected. The portions were small and taste was unacceptable. The pork chops were mostly bone. The fish was mostly batter. After complaining to the manager, we were told too bad. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Stay away.

Service started off not good. Nobody stopped by to get our drink order until we finally stopped a person who said they were not the person to help us. Finally we stopped apparently the right person. Later we were told by another “white shirt” who was very nice and helpful that they all worked together. The dim sum was room temperature to less than room temperature. Not fresh in my opinion. If it was it was very early this morning. We were seated at 12 noon. Even if the service was the best. No thank you. Not sure why the lines were so long??? I guess I’m spoiled on Yank Sing in San Fran.

We purchased a car today and wanted lunch at our favorite jasmines. We arrived at 3 03 pm just missed out favorite dim sim serving. We, are regular customers. We were refused the lunch menu be caused we were three minutes late. We will never be back. We were furious.this is no way to treat regular and loyal customers. Although we have been coming here for over twenty years. WE will NEVER be back

We ended up here as couldn't get into Kura Sushi around the corner.... but what a great surprise it was. Food was delicious. Service was great. Decor is super average but we loved the food!

It is a huge place, and on weekends it is packed. So with that in mind, you start enjoying different dishes and when tea takes a little longer that what is supposed to, and when our plates are almost empty and no cart is coming (make sure you grab their attention) you feel that the experience could be so much better. I plan to keep going, no doubt, but they should try to improve their service. One thing I did not like at all was the waitress complaining about the tip. WHAT DID SHE EXPECT???? If service is bad.... tip is bad too. It makes me feel bad because I think the problem is management, not that they have bad people working, just not enough. Paying a low tip is affecting the employee, not the owner, but that and this review are the only tools I have to show that I disapprove of the service.

Jasmine's is the place to go at noon for Dim Sum. I have been there many times when in San Diego. It is a large restaurant and many Asians are eating there each time I go. Feel like I am in Hong Kong. They have a large menu and everything I have tried is authentic and tasty.

Very traditional Dim Sum restaurant. A fun ethnic experience with lots o options to try a wide variety of unique dishes. It can be crowded on weekends with very large parties. You know you've made a good ethnic food decision when it is packed with people of that foods origin. Don't forget you can order dishes off the menu if you want something besides dim sum. Don't let the process intimidate you. Enjoy a little bit of China right here in SD!

We were both sure that we were overcharged by far for the dim sum. It seems excessive the markers are added to the bill for food we did not receive. We both agree that we will not eat at Jasmine's again and will report this to hopefully prevent the practice of overcharging to continue,.

This is perhaps the most famous Chinese (Hong Kong style) restaurant in San Diego, at least one of the best known. The food is good, and the service is good. The place is huge, enough to accommodate a few hundred people. I often came here to attend community events.

the dim sum here is good, not great. The shrimp sui mai is really good. Everything else seem acceptable although not particularly inventive.

Craving for Chinese cuisine during my trip, make a trip down for dinner from San Diego old town. Serve some authentic Cantonese cuisine

I ewe satisfied with the dim sum here in February but not this time (October 2015). The flavors are all off a little. The char siu buns has a lightish color in the stuffing that isn't correct. The rice pasta wrapped beef rolls were too flat in flavor and the pasta was too soft. The har-gau (shrimp dumplings) were also a bit off in flavor and texture. The Malai cake was simply wrong with too blond a color, and without the depth of the flavor is brown sugar. Disappointing.

We went to Jasmine based on my goddaughter's recommendation. It was the first time for our 2 teens from Spain to experience dim sum. The girl is a picky eater and didn't enjoy it as much as her brother who was open- minded with an adventurous palate. She did like the chicken pan-fried noodles. Overall the dim sum was delicious and well-made. The staff was friendly. Being an ex-New Yorker, this place is reminiscent of the dim sum places in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Was in San Diego on vacation and had been craving for Dim Sum and decided to give Jasmine a try based on it's reviews. Although Dim Sum in San Diego was not really highly rated I thought I'd give this a try. I had the regular items people would normally order for Dim Sum: Har gaw, Siu mai, Wontons, prawn cheung fun, Octopus balls etc. The portion sizes were as you would expect however the flavor was way below par. I had never had such bad and bland Dim Sum! The restaurant itself was as you would expect from a large Chinese restaurant and the traditional Dim Sum carts were also the norm however the food in those carts were far from fresh. I noticed the staff speaking various Chinese dialects and not necessarily Cantonese - of which Dim Sum originates - therefore I wonder if the kitchen staff know how to prepare Dim Sum. The restaurant was full of Asians however again, maybe they are not familiar with real Dim Sum or they have been so accustomed to this form of blandness. The cart servers were middle-aged women speaking in their dialects therefore it helped that I could speak the same language to ask what I wanted although they would lift up the lids of the Dim Sum to show what was available anyway. The food was expensive for what it was. For the money paid you could get something better from Downtown. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here as we did because it wasn't worth it. We had left so much food and usually I wouldn't hesitate to take it home with me. Maybe their non Dim Sum dishes fair better however I won't be returning to find out.

As a picky eater, I found this restaurant not impressed at all. When you enter, so many empty table gave us not a bad sign. Perhaps we're already biased , we didn't find food delicious. It was just a meal. But, the service is good.

I had never had Dim Sum. It was my first time. Restaurant looked really clean. They sat us down pretty quick and starting bringing food in carts ASAP. I went with a friend that ordered all the food for me. The food looked very authentic. Employees seemed very serious but got the job done. I'm sad that I don't know any of the names but lots of people were there during lunch. Parking is limited but other than give it a go.

We lived in Hong Kong for four years and ate dim sum at least weekly. The Jasmine restaurant makes us feel like we are back in Hong Kong. The food is very authentic and just as good as in HK. The main difference here is that most of the women pushing carts could speak English so if you have a question or want something special, it is easy to communicate. It is a great place to take an extended family because there is always something the appeals, even to picky eaters. The experience is always enjoyable. We prefer steamed items, especially with seafood fillings. The steamed pork buns are also one of my favorites. If you want to try something different check out the radish cakes. They appear to contain some pork pieces and are quite different from the usual fare, although not everyone likes them. If you go on a weekend, try to get there early (say 11-11:30) to avoid sometimes long lunchtime waits.

Maybe this restaurant is an acquired taste, but my wife and I hade the worst dining experience in recent memory. The room could be a high school gym--large, square, brightly lit, and noisy. Perhaps it is a converted warehouse. The serving system consisted of little old ladies who spoke little or no English pushing around metal carts with little stainless steel pots of stuff. There was no menu. So we had no idea how to put together a selection and what choices the next cart would offer. The foods we did choose tasted strange. The BBQ pork was dry and the fried rice was oddly flavored, not in a good way. Most of the patrons were Asian, so perhaps the style of cooking was simply unfamiliar to a Westerner. We left half the meal uneaten.

After lunch at Dumpling Inn , we walked 20 yards to Jasmine express for egg tarts , Taro cake and bought soy sauce chicken the roast for snack later . The place is clean , friendly staff , with variety of cakes , snacks , and barbecue meat ( roasted pig too ) , also a buffet type of take out. . The Asian cusine is getting better here . I visited SD every 2/3 years for the last 25 years , this is the first time I feel an improvement in the Chinese food in this town .

This is a true Chinese restaurant! The food was fantastic and authentic. We did not have to wait to get in and there was free parking in the back

We are visiting the area and this restaurant was chosen by our host. There was a very large party that night that occupied most of the dining room but there was still enough room for 100 or so patrons. The décor is very nice. The chairs are wrap in red Chinese fabric. The service was efficient. We had reservation at 6 PM and were promptly seated. The service was very good despite the large party in the next room. We had the Winter melon soup (very good), Walnut Shrimp (nice size shrimp & lots of walnuts), fried chicken (very crisp), Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce (very crisp), seafood tofu and spicy tofu with pork (not too spicy). For a party of 8 we consumed almost everything. A very good dinner.

Cling clang, metal carts, servers, long waits on weekends, large tables for families, packed just as you would expect for real Chinese dim sum. You pick the dish as hey roll by, they stamp, and when you think you re done, the bill gets tallied. Traditional hot tea, oolong. It is a great place for traditional fare and if you are a visitor wanting to show off your cultural insights.

Highly recommended, good dimsum , variety of food and fast service, they ran out of the sweet tofu dessert, I wish they made more of those delicious dessert!!!

My Fiance and I went in at 1pm but we didn't realize they still served dim sum at that hour! We are in San Diego because we plan on getting married out here in 2014! We plan on having a traditional wedding banquet so we are trying out different spots and Jasmine was our first area. We asked for a dinner menu instead and I think it took the waitresses back a little lol. But everything we ordered was good except for the mustard greens. But I think it is just the vegetable itself is very bitter. My fiancé does not like seafood but we ordered a shrimp and scallop dish and he ate about half of it! We also ordered the general tso's chicken which is his favorite and also their Jasmine Young chow fried rice which was tasty as well. In general I thought the ambience was fine for a Chinese Restaurant! I thought the price was a little on the higher side however.

I think Jasmine DIM SUM is in the top 3. I'm still searching monthly to find. Of course Dim Sum is not always about service, but the food, choices at Jasmine are worth the drive. Easy to get to off 805 & Balboa. Covered parking as of 9-16

This is a Chinese restaurant, not some bistro. If you know chinese customs and cuisine, you will come back to Jasmine, time and time again. The best menu, and roll around carts with dim sum. If you are game to try something new, you will enjoy. Keep an OPEN mind. It is sorta noisy, food comes fast- AND IT IS GOOD. If you don't know the culture- go to Mickey D's, Burger King. Frank S. swears this one of the finest in San Diego County, if not- I'll eat one of my hats. TRY IT !

I love to go to this place for Dim Sum. It's excellent, very authentic.

The owner must be from Hong Kong. Very efficiently run. But the restroom could have been cleaner!! Haven't been there for a while because of the restroom...lol...It is not romantic at all!! Why is it a special features of this restaurant??

This is a large restaurant with traditional dim sum. My husband is half Chinese and only wants dim sum off carts. On Sunday if you aren't there by 10:30 am you'll be waiting quite a while. It's better to go later if you can wait til they are closer to closing. The choices are great with most of the best dishes. They don't have low sodium soy sauce and that's a major down side for me. The service is generally good with managers and others jumping in to help every time we go. The quality of the dim sum is good with average pricing too.

great food great service great location clean neat and friendly old lady lil grouchy all food was hot desserts cold but best was bubba drink

While in San Diego for Comic Con my daughter wanted Chinese for her 21st birthday. Jasmine restaurant was almost empty yet no one attempted to seat us nor was the menu or specials explained to us. After a long wait we placed our order. The food was served and then the wait staff began to ready a table for a "regular"; the group arrived and we were forgotten (until the check arrived). Our group was not Asian and not "regulars" but we deserved better service than we received. I found the food to be over-priced and of just acceptable quality (exceptionally dry Peking Duck). We live in Houston, but I grew up in San Fran & Granada Hills so I do know good Chinese and this was just not worth the money we spent. Just skip this place especially if you are from out of town.

When we arrived there were a number of people outside waiting and some lingering to talk after a delightful meal. The parking lot was a little overfilled but we find good parking in the shade. Our wait time was not bad at all. We were seated by a lady dressed in Oriental attire at a lovely spot with a clean fresh white table cloth. Carts were circulating all around the room constantly and would come to you stopping to allow you to pick whatever they had on the cart. A stamp was put on the card showing what you had received. We all selected and enjoyed the best of foods of so many varieties. It was such a delightful experience eating from the carts. A definite need to return and enjoy again. The servers were well dressed, and so polite. well coordinated meals and cart service.

It is always busy here. I think this is the 3rd time we have been here. We enjoy dim sum a lot. We had a nice lunch here. I would say I thought this time a few of dishes not as tasty as the past visits.

We celebrated my birthday at this restaurant with family of 7. We purposedly made reservation for early dinner and thus no problem with parking. The waitress was very nice to my surprise. The dishes were small and said to serve 6-8 people on the menu, but we found them to be insufficient, more like serving for 4-5. We had the French-styled beef steak; Sauted fish fillet with vegetables; Kung pao shrimp; Fried tofu; Yi mein ( noodles) with lobster. The best tasting were the shrimp and the yi mein with lobster. Like all cantonese restaurants, the food tends to be greasy.

Very nice and large dim sum restaurant. Had separate carry out entrance. Nice parking area and good access. Very active restaurant...well lite and very well appointed.

We eat dim sum here more than anywhere else. it's not because it is so good, but because it's convenient, has a large seating capacity, and is usually acceptable in quality. Once the crowd size is large enough, they start bringing out a wider variety of items. I've been there when I've waited through the entire meal without once seeing my favorites. When I ask for them by name, they always tell me it's coming, but that's not always true. On weekends, try to arrive before 11, or you'll have a long wait. The quality is hit or miss. There have been times when the items were exceptionally good. But most times it has been average or less. When I place an order for specialty dishes such as lobster Cantonese, it is usually done quite well. It's as if the chefs enjoy a brake from preparing dim sum fare to make a special request.

Wow. As you walk in to this restaurant don't be taken back by the enormity of this place. Dim Sum Style of eating. The food is amazing and fresh. Servers are busy, but taking care of the guests. Great and huge variety of foods to choose from. Place is clean and maintained. Parking is limited as well as paying. 1dollar per hour in the parking garage. They also have a Jasmine Express right next door.

My second time having Dim Sum. This place had good reviews. Waiting for them to bring by the soup dumplings, but never came....I asked a server for pork soup dumplings and she confirmed with me and said she will order from the kitchen....they'll be out shortly. They came, delish! They had more filling and less soup than I first had in San Francisco, but still were good. Kids enjoyed trying everything and eating with Chop sticks🍜. Ask as many questions as you need, servers go pretty fast and use Chinese names.

Very good variety of dim sum. You'll need to be patient with service and flag down the server if you want tea, hot sauce, or check. The last time I came here was over 10 years ago, and the flavor hasn't changed at all. I enjoy seafood-based dim sum and my recommendations are the fried crab claws, fried shrimp with sugar cane, and shrimp dumplings. I'd definitely come here again. Based in the yelp reviews, Dumpling Inn is rated higher, but don't trust it. The food quality here is much better and more authentic.

Tried this restaurant on Nov. 30, 2014. Very good Dim Sum food. Restaurant was crowded on Thanksgiving weekend but reservation ahead of time helped us get seated right away. Difficult to order if you don't speak Chinese. Worth the visit if you crave for Dim Sum while in San Diego.

I waited until the morning to try to be objective in my review. Me and my husband visited for the first time last night labor day Monday only because the Shanghai saloon was closed. I figured it probably won't be as good, but will no be bad, I was very wrong unfortunately, no busy at all maybe 4 tables yet our orders weren't taken until 15 minutes later, our waitress was very rude and it felt as if we were bothering her. We order 2 dim sum and 2 chicken dishes, it took 20 minutes to get the dim sum, the worst I've ever had, chewy, cold and burnt, I know, weird combination, no edible at all. At that time we decided to leave because we didn't have hope for better main dishes. We didn't want to just walk out, we wanted to express our complaint to a manager, "no manager ever came" the waitress just argued because she couldn't understand that we wanted to leave and we said ok, we just want to pay for what came out even though we only had one bite each, she said no! you're paying for everything is too late to cancel the order. So to prevent a scene we said ok and paid for all the food we didn't have. I never thought in my life that service in a restaurant could be this disappointing, I had bad food and bad service before but never did I had to pay for services and goods not rendered. It goes without saying I'll never be back again and I'll tell everyone with ears to not go there either. Stay away!!

Service was very good and attentive. The prices are about 50% higher than restaurants in the same area. Beef, port, chicken, and shrimp dishes were all about the same price. We had dinner there at 8 pm on a Saturday night and the place was only 20% full. Rice is by the bowl, most Chinese restaurants have a large bowl of rice and refills are free. Seems like just about everyone else there ordered the Peking Duck.

We have been here for dinner and very good. We tried the dim sim this time on a Fri afternoon. The 7 of us arrived at 11:30 am and it was crowded but we were able to be seated right away. They have the dim sim carts with lots of choices and come by frequently so you are not left hungry for too long. The tripe was tender and tasty as the sui mai, shrimp dumplings & crepes. They use shrimp for most of their stuffing. We would have preferred more beef or pork items but all in all it was a pleasant experience.

They do the cart service dimsum up until 3pm and this restaurant is my go to whenever I have the craving. The selection is to die for, and almost everything is done to perfection. They have the best selection of shrimp dimsum and all of the shrimp they serve tastes fresh and isn't overpowered by the other ingredients of the dish. Their har gow is fantastic and there's another shrimp dish that's basically shrimp in sweet soy sauce in a succulent rice wrapper (i believe this is cheung fun) that I always get. You're free to flag any of the dim sum carts and even to order on the regular menu at the same time. I don't recommend the xiao long bao tho, that one was very dry and I think was either cooked too long or sat too long. But xiao long bao is not part of the cart dim sum and is something you have to tell the servers to get you. Do watch out, each cart/ item has it's own grade/price point so the totals add up fast if you're not careful. but for the taste and how filing each item is, I think it's worth it. And make sure that you are courteous but not scared to flag a cart or wandering server to get your items, otherwise you won't get the items you want because everyone else is getting the same thing. I've visited this place five times and each time it's always packed, especially with Chinese customers. And pro-tip, if you see a Chinese restaurant that is almost always packed with older Chinese people, chances are you found a great spot. I've also gotten dinner here. It tastes just as good but is a little more on the expensive side for people used to cheap Chinese food. Bring cash for the parking lot, it charges $1 an hour, which isn't too bad for guaranteed parking.

We can here for dim sum and it was fine. We've had better in San Fran, NYC and Philly, but this was fine. Everything comes out in carts rather than ordering from a menu. All of the usual dim sum items are available.

This is the place for dim sum in San Diego. Been going to Jasmines for the last 10 years. Large location with lots and lots of dim sum choices. Can get busy but carts are kept fully stock so they rarely run out of items. If there is something you want, ask the waiter and he'll get it for you. This is definitely a San Diego icon.

I have had had many good dinners at Jasmine but the last time was really disappointing The tablecloth was dirty. The service was sporadic. The food was very ordinary and expensive. Walnut shrimp was as usual the best dish.

Our usual was closed today 12/28/14 so the four of us tried this one. Our wait was about twenty minutes and we were seated near front-centre section. We found a bigger selection of Dim Sum available than our usual place and some were as good, while others were better. We were not able to sample all that we wanted because all of us ran out of room to eat any more. The Food arrived hot and we noticed that carts seem to come in waves with new selections. Everyone agreed that we would be coming back, although it maybe our new most favourite. We thought the price averaged out about $10pp which is very close to our other prime choice. That restaurant is listed $$, while this was listed $$$. I do not agree that this one was more expensive. Not sure what the criteria is for choosing one over the other.

We came here about a month ago and it was average. But, we gave it a second chance today…and it was much worse. Basically it feels like they are always serving leftovers from yesterday. The fried items drip oil and are extremely chewy…shrimp are rubbery and tasteless. The steamed items are better but seem dry. I know good dim sum and this is THE WORST ever. No third chances….

Our family normally frequents Jasmine at least once a month and the food, price and variety keep us coming back! We love the dumplings (Haw Gow, Siu Mai) as well as the bbq pork and peking duck. . .make sure you top the meal off with a couple of custard tarts and you are as close to nirvana as most humans get. . .yep, we love Jasmine!

Always the best hot and sour soup, dim sum and my favorite Lobster Cantonese in either ginger/scallion or black bean sauce. Both are delicious!!! Everything is delicious and always has been.

Food is incredible. Service is...uh...well, it's always better if you can speak chinese at these places, right? Haha.

A taste of real Cantonese food in San Diego's Convoy St. To our surprise we enjoyed the food! The hot and sour was nice except that the ingredients were cut coarsely. Worth the try! Difficult to get a parking spot!

Got the garlic chicken (spicy) and was pleasantly surprised at the complexity of flavor and the variety of ingredients. The price did not include rice, so the entrée with rice was $20.

The red-red-red decor can be a bit much, but if you get it the mood, order a lobster with black bean sauce and a bottle of Chardonnay, things will be alright.

We ususally eat here every other month on a Saturday or Sunday. Place is normally packed by 10:00am. Food is good, but often times the carts don't come by and you have to flag down a server to request an item. Have to ask for water and seldom is it refilled. Enjoy the dragons on Cinese New Year.

We would have been wise to look more thoroughly at the menu before going here because when a cart arrives at your table it is difficult to know if you should grab something or wait for the next cart. The servers who push the carts do not speak clear English and it is difficult to tell what you are getting. As a consequence we had some very tasty and very good dim sum but we also had some that were either cold (because they had made several circuits on the cart) or had unappealing exterior coatings. Overall we enjoyed our meal and agreed several of the dishes were very good but next time we will ask a waiter (not a cart pusher) for certain things to take away the guesswork. This is a huge place with a lot of Chinese patrons so something has to be very good.

This is the best resturant in town for traditional dim sum and a great variety of it as well. Like any good dim sum experience, it is best to go with a larger group so you can sample the greatest variety of dishes. Everything is fresh. Staff is attententive. If you go on the weekend and during lunch hour, be prepared to wait a bit, but it is well worth it.

So I went here July 8, 2012 and did not have a great experience. Not very bad either. When I came into the restaurant it took a long time to get seated. Then I ordered chicken here. I waited a long time to eat. While waiting I tried fried calamari and it was ok. Then chicken arrived. It was good, I liked it. At the end I felt a little sick, as my stomach felt hurt a little. I felt it hurting for about four hours. Overall, it wasn't great but it was ok.

I have been Jasmine Chinese dozens of time and have never been disappointed.. This place is solid for consistently serving great Dim Sum. I especially like it on weekend lunch times when the chefs are turning out one specialty after another, great selections are good prices. You gotta try it.

We ordered crab dish.It was good to eat, but the were no crab crackers and no picks, so we had to pick up out of the plaes. we asked for crab crackers and picks, but to no avil. Most of the help didn't speak much English. We WILL NOT RETURN!

This the only and best place to get dim sum in San Diego. Not the cheapest but definitely the best. A lot of different type coming around in carts. If you can't wait or dont' see what you want... Just ask... They'll get it for you. I usually just stick to the basic pork or shrimp shumei. Also, love any of their fried shrimp dishes. Servers are fast and friendly.

Like the food, HATE the service! I bet people get better service at a homeless shelter.

The dim sum selection is awesome. Those wonderful fried crab claws were crispy and very tasty. We loved the food so much we returned 2 days later for another awesome dim sum experience. We loved the pan fried noodles and perfectly sautéed snow pea leaves. Everyone time we visit San Diego always go to Jasmine fir dim sum and dinner.

Jasmine has it-I don't get the low stars but maybe the ridonculous coddled crowd expects something other than an authentic experience? Anyhoo-solid food and good to excellent service depending on the day and time. Loves Alice, Michael, Andy etc. Best picks: Salt n Pepper Lobster, Chinese Broc with Garlic Sauce, Long Beans w/ dried Shrimp, Shrimp & Chive Dumpling, SeaWeeeed Salad, Peking Duck 2 ways, Filet w/ Aspargus, Beef Rib, Baby Dragon Dumpling, Scallop (Steamed) Dumpling, Curry Chick Dumpling, Baked or Steamed Pork Bun, ALL Gooood.

Went there for dinner one night and then for dim sum before lunch. Get there early for dim sum. Place is packed!! Amazing variety of dim sum. Friendly atmosphere. Pretty good food.

We drove through Carlsbad, La Jolla, and reached to San Diego in the evening. Our friend did the homework and recommended this restaurant. This restaurant is about 10-15 minutes from the hotel circle and it was certainly worth the trip. This restaurant had a number reserved parking spaces in the parking lot. We did not order the dim sum but went for the featured dishes. Four of us ordered four dishes and a soup (large portion) to share. The portions are sizable and we had some left-overs. The half roasted chick dish was excellent, tasty, crispy on the outside and moist inside. The Toufu dish met our expectation but best with some hot pepper sauce (highly recommended) on the side. At the end, we ended with a bill of $75!! for four including the complimentary desert dish at the end, tax and tip. It could easily cost more than $150 in New York City with similar entries. I would certainly come back to this restaurant again if I come to San Diego.

The service here is about the worst in San Diego that I've experienced. They are slow and apparently have little concern about it. We ended up here because the far superior restaurant next door Dumpling Inn was closed. The wait staff here appears non-existent. There was at least 1 table who arrived after us that had drinks and an appetizer before we did. It took 10 minutes to get water and 20 minutes before anyone took our order. That's the best part of it. After the food arrived after the first bite I realized that the service was the best part. The pot stickers we ordered were dry and extremely tough and chewy, like chewing on rubber. The soup dumplings had a bland tasteless flavor. We decided not to put up with the subpar meal and asked if we could just pay for what we had eaten and decline our entrees. They would not accept those terms and for reasons I cannot comprehend, failed to grasp the concept of dissatisfaction. I initially thought this was a comprehension issue but in actuality they wanted us to pay for the entrees that we never consumed or received. Rather than make a scene I paid for the entree which was made which I never received, paid for my drink and appetizers, much to the chagrin of my wife, and decided to leave as soon as I possibly could. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to ever visit this restaurant when the vastly superior choices that surround it. If you find yourself considering this restaurant please take solace that you can usually find much better a short walk away.

Came for the dim sum brunch on Easter. Only reason I came was the rolling carts. Boy do they have lots of cars with variety! Glad we got there around 10:30am as it got full fast with a long line when we left. Typical dim sum fare but some nice choices like shrimp rolls, char siu bao, etc. My favorite was the crab roll with the leg sticking out. For the most part everything was tasty and authentic, huge variety with lots of carts going back and forth. Unfortunately for us we grab things and then get full fast. My suggestion is to wait a wait and let carts go by until you see the full spread then call them back. It is a bit pricey I thought with a few dim sum places being $9!!! I guess I'm old skool where the plates need to be between $3-4 dollars. Some where but the more exotic stuff was much more expensive. Still a nice traditional experience with the rolling carts and we would definitely come back; we just need to control ourselves hahahaha. Definitly worth a try!

The most consistent restaurant in San Diego. Serves great dimsum everytime. Tip: the service is very Hong Kong style. You have to always catch or call attention to the carts passing by.

I have eaten many dishes in this lively restaurant. Dim sumbeing my favorite. The choices are endless, savory and scrumptious. You can taste every ingredient in the dim sum. Do prepare for a very busy restaurant with lots of chatter to remind you that all are enjoying this cumulative experience

We were here for a family banquet dinner. My party was the first to show, and at first they couldn’t find our reservation under the name I had given. The gentleman finally spotted our timeslot after meticulously going through their notebook – apparently, whoever took the reservation never wrote down our name and noted only the phone number. He led us deep into the huge dining hall and crammed 13 of us around a large circular table. Thankfully the restaurant that Thursday night was not completely filled as I think we would’ve had a difficult time squeezing out of our seats. The atmosphere was tired and dated but exactly what I remember of Chinese banquets growing up. There was no live entertainment nor dancing that night even though they had a stage area with a complicated light setup. Once the table logistics were finalized, everything went much more smoothly. Water, hot tea, and cocktails arrived. I had an overly sweet and very mild Blue Hawaiian cocktail that intrigued the rest of the family due to the vivid blue Curacao. Chinese dish after dish piled up on the table top Lazy Susan (spinning server), and we all helped ourselves to whatever we wanted. Lots of seafood options, meat choices, vegetables, rice and noodles. The food was actually all surprisingly decent for the huge amounts being made (this is not my preferred cuisine). Even with the crowd of people, our party couldn’t finish it all. Parking in the free, paved lot on a weeknight was still pretty tight. And don’t confuse the take-out shop around the corner with the actual banquet restaurant.
